The Last of Us: OOC (New Version/Semi-Alive?)

Postby Corrian » Mon Mar 31, 2014 2:34 am

IC LINK RIGHT HERE

This is a new thread for The Last of Us RP because the OP of the previous one disappeared and Ceased To Exist, but there were enough of us left in the RP that we wanted to continue on with the various stories taking place in the IC. I wouldn't be making a new one if there wasn't a good reason behind it

That said, here's the general concept, slightly tweaked around from what it was before:

The world is no longer how it used to be after the cordyceps outbreak, a deadly fungal infection. After Joel stopped the Fireflies from sacrificing Ellie in the name of humanity, the pair escape to a settlement. But things have drastically changed now. The cordyceps infection has spread as humanity worries about fighting each other rather than the infection. Now hardly any city is left, those that are, are on the brink of destruction after the complete collapse of the national governments, now humanity is truly on it's own. Now it seems only a matter of time before the world becomes a victim to the cordyceps fungus.

It's been 30 years since Ellie and Joel made their harrowing journey to Salt Lake City (Which was 21 years after the infection started, making it the year 2064, 51 years after the infection started). Nearly every city, gone, mutant hot spot except the occasional bandit clan and struggling colony. But now it's your turn, will you be successful and restore humanity, or turn into a mutant like the other 90% of the population? It's your fight now, choose which city and choose wisely. Become the founder of a colony, or just some raider in Salt Lake City, or join a paramilitary group bent on power and greed or make one of your own. Choose to bring back technology or destroy the world further.

The Infected:
Cordyceps

Even after an infected individual has died, the fungus will continue to grow. By this point, the corpse becomes skeletal and brittle, and the fungus sticks the body to whatever surface it is on. The fungus will begin to emit spores from the body which will infect anyone that breathes them. To combat this, most survivors carry gas masks.

Runners are the first and weakest stage of the Infected who have recently entered their transformation. Since the eyes are first targeted by the fungus, runners have poor eyesight, but maintain many human instincts. For example, their moans are still human, just like their overall appearance. A way to tell them apart from normal survivors is their glowing red eyes. Their body language is sluggish while they are passive, suggesting they are resisting the fungus's influence. Sometimes they do not attack at all, even when non-infected individuals are right in front of them. These non-aggressive runners will only attack if attacked first or when an object is thrown at or near them, thus losing control. Much like sneezing, the urge to attack after such interactions happens involuntarily and unwillingly by the host. Runners are confirmed to be able to attack in packs flailing their arms trying to trample the survivor

Stalkers are the second stage of the Infected. They have the vision and speed of Runners and a slightly weaker enhanced echolocation of Clickers. The most notable physical traits that define the "Stalkers" is the distinct croaking noises they make, the beginning of fungal growths on the head and face, the development of pseudo echolocation, and their discretion upon spotting a victim at distance - they will strafe and take cover, eventually closing in on the victim, hence the name "Stalker". Up-close, Stalkers are very aggressive and will charge immediately at the victim without hesitation. Stage 2 may take place anywhere between a few days after the start of the infection (Stage 1) and up to a year (Stage 3)

Their strength is equal to a fit human being as their attacks can interrupt actions made by the player.

Clickers are the third and most distinctly recognized stage of the Infected. They have had prolonged exposure to the fungus, and now possess strength that significantly surpasses the average human. This makes them deadlier, but at the price of being completely blind due to fungal infection overtaking their face. However, Clickers are able to maneuver through areas by utilizing echolocation, which produces noticeable clicking noises to locate sources of sound.

Clickers appear less human than Runners, with faces that are skewed and scarred by fungus developed from their infected brains. Clickers are dangerous and much more aggressive than Runners, and no longer resist the fungus because their humanity has been eliminated.

When provoked, a Clicker will immediately enter into a "berserk mode," aggressively flailing its arms. At this point, if a survivor has been "spotted" by a Clicker, the Clicker will attack head on and will not flinch when shot unless using high powered rounds.

Bloaters are the fourth, final, and most dangerous stage of the Infected and are immensely strong. Bloaters take the longest to develop, making them the rarest of the infected. They are covered in thick fungus that effectively doubles as armor plate. Due to this protective covering, they can withstand multiple hits from weapons such as the Shotgun and Hunting Rifle, and even hatchets and machetes making them extremely tough to eliminate. Bloaters are extremely aggressive, but are rather slow-moving causing them to be more predictable than other infected. Like Clickers, Bloaters 'see' using echolocation to locate and trap a survivor as the fungus has completely deformed their face and blinded them, though their echolocation is a lot less refined than the Clickers. If a Bloater grabs a survivor, it will forcefully rip their jaw apart through brute strength, or grab the player's head and smash it, killing them instantly. There is no way to defend yourself if grabbed - the result is an instant kill. Bloaters will throw sacks of Mycotoxin, a toxin produced by many fungi in the real world. The sack will explode on impact, spraying the target with the toxin. The Mycotoxin will hurt the player over time, so it is recommended to avoid these deadly clouds.

Bloaters, like all Infected, have a weakness to fire. When set ablaze a Bloater will wildly thrash around trying to put out the flames. After being immolated, they will be charred black and smoking. Their armor will also be charred and brittle, making them vulnerable to low-powered weapons. Despite this weakness, fire-based weapons such as Flamethrowers or Molotov cocktails still require multiple uses before killing a bloater. Their other less effective weakness if fire is inaccessible is armor piercing rounds from an upgraded weapon like the hunting rifle. It will take fewer shots to kill if the weapon has the Power and Armor-piercing upgrade.

The Co-Ops:
Saestea
Pinki3 Pon-3
Terintania (Minor One)

The Rules:
1. No godmodding
2. No spamming.
3. No flaming or arguing. Friendly disagreements and debating stuff for the RP is fine, but no need to bring it into a full on argument
4. I control the mutants, resource availability, and nature. (I'll actually be easy on this rule, and won't seriously enforce it, but I would still like some control over how these go about)
5. Be realistic, (Example: Don't say you killed 13 mutants with a rusty screwdriver. If you had a AK-47, still unlikely)
6. No uber tech levels, most of the tech is gone, so colonies start from basic stuff, maybe a few assault rifles depending on your start location.
7. No one liners, at least one paragraph minimum.
8. Resources will be scarce

This is more for overall world building, and aren't so much a part of the story unless the situation makes the most sense for them. Not typically played by any specific people players, though likely the ones made by certain people will more likely be played by them than others. Will most likely pop up in the story at random.

This does not eliminate player-made groups, however. If slots are open, you can still make your own group, that is more frequently played and part of the IC than these groups will be.

Group Technology Level: Possibly pre-infection
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name of Group:Followers of the Apocalypse
Group Leader(s): Typical mystery leaders that never truly show their face to the public, or if they do, they don't admit to being leader and just act like another of the crew.
Group Location: Scattered across America
Group Ideology: Survival of and rebuilding of society via teaching of old world things lost to time like farming, irrigation, indoctrination of medicine and so forth.
Group History: Born out of the ashes of the end of the world, mostly out of fancy college campuses like University of Eastern Colorado, Boston institute of technology, UCLA, ect..

Name of Group: Little Lamplight
Group Leader(s): Josh Spiradakos and his twin sister, Aisha Spiradakos. They are both 12 years old. Josh's appearance is

and Aisha's is
ImageImageImage
. Aisha has a retractable claw thingy as one of her weapons. Other then that, she has a hidden blade on her left arm for the possibility of more stealthy attacks, and throwing knives for long-ranged attacks. She also seems to be able to climb really well. Josh has a claw glove, a wrist-mounted crossbow with poisoned bolts and a thin sword. Aisha seems to be more of the communicator and talker while Josh is more of a fighter than his sister, but they both end up complimenting each other well as fellow leaders, especially being twins. While Josh is the bigger fighter of the group and his sister tends to be more likely to stay out of things if she can, they tend to work really well together as a team when they both do get into combat situations together, though.
Group Location: Near Colorado Springs, in the forests nearby, inside of treehouses interconnected to each other by bridges. Small treehouses, but treehouses nonetheless.
Group Ideology: Helping the lonely children of the apocalypse by giving them somewhere safe to stay.
Group History: Josh and Aisha have always been close to each other, and for most of their lives up until the age of 10, they lived in a group with their parents. But one day everything went horribly wrong as their little group became under attack. It was quite a mess. The group had been getting along with each other for quite a long time, but tensions started to rise among the group as they appeared to become more unorganized, food began to ran out, and so on, which evolved into a rebellion against the leadership. But the rebellion didn't seem to be very organized, and everyone pretty much just started killing each other one day in frustration or something, and Josh and Aisha's parents died during the conflict. They narrowly escaped death themselves, and they were stuck out there together for months and months. Josh had pretty much become the leader for Aisha at that point.

After months of it just being the two of them, it eventually evolved into what it was today. They started to get the idea that maybe they could help others, others being various different children who were lost in the world, alone and scared, and it slowly became something bigger than any of them expected it to. The group only consisted of children and young teens (Like 15 and below), who mostly used old school weaponry like swords, bows, and spears, and only if they absolutely needed to. It began to turn into a little treehouse paradise of children living in the woods near Colorado Springs, after lots and lots of work. At the moment, the group consists of about 20 people in total, led by the two twins who decided to lead the group together, instead of leaving it all up to Josh to lead like how it generally was when it was just the two of them.
Group Technology Level: Bow and arrows, swords, spears, booby traps, and various other simple weaponry. The leaders do have access to a few more serious weapons, though, like handguns and such, but tend to avoid using either.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name of Group: The Texas Rangers
Group Leader(s): Bill Cosby:
ImageImageImage

Group Location: Austin, Texas, but their influence is pretty wide over the entire state.
Group Ideology: Fightin' for a better Texas, and America, or something, I don't really know.
Group History: Well, to make things simple...the Texas Rangers have existed since forever, and after the apocalypse started, they managed to still continue to keep themselves alive, even 50+ years later. But now they feel like they almost went back to their roots from the 1800's, using old school weaponry, riding horses everywhere they go, looking seriously like cowboys, going after bounties if people in Texas give them one, and so on. They try to keep peace and order in mostly Texas as well as they possibly can with their numbers, which are a decent size but not hugely large numbers. And that's about all there is to know about them.
Group Technology Level: Oldschool rifles, shotguns, some sniper rifles, revolvers, and so on. In other words, after the apocalypse, they acted as if they were still from the Wild West days. All of them tend to ride horseback as well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name of Group: Deathbringers, because they're a bunch of silly young people who apparently can't think of a cooler name.
Group Leader(s): Some random dude? They probably have someone who commands their group, but I don't see them as having that noteworthy of a leader. And I can't think of any specific leader, so...
Group Location: Near Seattle, Washington
Group Ideology: Cause death and destruction as much as possible, everywhere they go. Well, what they can do with their small numbers, anyway...
Group History: The Deatbringers came about from a small group of teenagers to young adults who decided that it would be fun to cause problems as much as possible, but even a few yeers later now, their group is still rather small, and about all they can do is take out tiny settlements, or attack people on the road that pass. In a sense, you could say they were kind of like bandits, stopping people on the road, killing them and looting them. They tend to live in the woods, and jump out of them to stop people and kill them. If there's a group of people just dead on the road, it is a possibility that it was them that caused the random deaths. Beyond that, they don't really do a whole lot, though they hope to one day grow into something even bigger, to expand their influence...
Group Technology Level: A few cars, 2 assault rifles, a bunch of handguns, 1 sniper rifle, and various other weapons. That's about it, just a few things they use for causing problems.

Noteworthy Events/Things About Places:
Boston was bombed a long time ago to try and clear out some of the infected
Pittsburgh is quite flooded

I noticed that the time in the IC and the time mentioned of when it's supposed to be based kinda don't go together properly, and since what year it actually is hasn't been terribly mentioned, anyway, maybe we should make some adjustments:

The OP says "35 years after the major event in the game", and the game is mostly based in the year 2033 (Infection starting in 2013), but the IC said it was the year 2030 (And 2040? :eyebrow: ), which wouldn't exactly make sense.

Maybe it should now be the year 2063, and 30 years after said event, so it is exactly 50 years after the infection initially started (Making all of us young folks in the RP having lived their whole lives in this crap). Though I guess in a sense it would be the year 2064, because the games based 20 years after it starts in 2013 and about a year goes by in the game, and then this RP is based 30 years after THAT.

And as much as my mind is telling me that the infected would most likely be wiped out by then, or at least a large chunk of it, that will obviously not be the case for RP's sake :P

Still, I go with the mindset that your fellow humans in a situation like this are in fact worse than the infected themselves, anyway, even if it is the infected that brought the worst out of humanity and made it easier FOR humanity to act like this because the infected brought the entire world to its knees. Infected are easier to avoid than your fellow twisted humans. And I try to portray that in the RP, as well.

I wasn't even aware of that.

Nope. There's a little cave alongside the ocean. Drove a boat into it once. Another time online I was with my crew members with a level 5 wanted level, and I flew my helicopter into the cave and escaped that way. It was awesome.

Ok your gonna have to gimme a link of a website that shows that then. I want to find this cave. Also, are we starting over a new rp or still continuing on the old one? Im confused by your comment at the beginning, there. Cause I was under the impression I would be joining the already started rp with the drunken Irishman and the guy with the plane and all those people.

A group is 3+ people. I've only read a few pages but so far, the only group I've seen is what was left of the us military and some civilians in some farming encampment. Otherwise, it seems everyone is randomly across the map.

He declares Washington to be his play ground and with his group of loyal followers extends his reach across the entire state of Maryland. There dream is reunit America under a different flag one of Order free of what he saw as weakness in the American goverment that allowed this outbreak to happen. He and his loyal followers are ready to pay any price to see this dream come true. They tend to use the children to talk with settlement leaders seeing as how only few can bring themselves to shoot a child.

Same RP. I just needed a new OOC that at least makes it obvious it's still going. I posted the same IC in the OP.

I'll change it to where between 10 to 15 is recommended, or something.

And yeah, it's an American game, but with the original OP, he said you can start anywhere.

Though in these kinds of RP's I always worry about people that will end up only RPing with themselves, but eh, downsides of a sandbox RP, I guess?

You can look at the OP and use the other 2 groups as examples.

Plan to make the way up to Pittsburgh for the steel and metal factories they could put to use makeing weapons for the new world. They use brutal force for alot of there purposes but are not above diplomacy useing it as there first choice when dealing with a town or settlement. They are a fairly large group with several children present who are taught ideals, principles, how to read and write as well as speaking skills like negotiation. They tend to use the children to talk with settlement leaders seeing as how only few can bring themselves to shoot a child.

Technology Summary: they use alot of makeshift weapons but have found many automatic weapons left behind from the military. Metal works and mechanics as well as a standered education for children. Put alot of effort in to fixing trucks and other mods of transportation arming and armouring them.

RP Example (Not really absolutely needed):

I think having the whole of Virginia is a bit of a size stretch, but if you wanted *Looks at US map on his wall* the entire state of Delaware, or Maryland, or New Jersey, or Connecticut, or Rhode Island, or even Massachusetts, I'd let you have your group be all across either one of those states. And having Maryland gives them the white house, even though that doesn't really mean anything these days and is just a fancy building :P

For the items, the amount allowed should depend on what the items are. Like, if it's not logical for them to carry it, they can't.

Yeah, I was thinking that. You can't have like 15 guns :P

But that should be a fairly obvious thing to avoid, so I don't think I really need to mention it.

I was just thinking that my characters could easily have more than 10 items, but they're lots of really small things.

Nation Name: Terintania

Single Person or Group: Group

Single Person Name or Group Name: The Freedom Racers

Single Person Equipment (be realistic no more than 10 items):

Group Ideology: Have fun, and be free, basically.

Group/Person Location: Main Base: In a oil field is western Colorado.
Caravan Current Location: Near Dillon, Colorado.

Brief Summary on Group/Person: The Freedom Racers was created about 25 years after the infection started, when people abandoned most of their cars and homes for the bigger cities, the safe zones. It was created by a group of friends, all car fans, who decided to sacrifice the safety of the safe zones for the freedom of the apocalyptic world. They each found a car that they liked, and went around collecting fuel wherever they could. They drove for miles and miles, eventually deciding to allow more people to join the group, and expand. Over the years, the group has gotten many people, though the original creators are now long dead. The group consists of car fans, mechanics and car builders, basically.

Their base is located in the middle of an oil field, where they have managed to get a few oil machines going again, and have also created a make-shift distiller, allowing them to create their own diesel. Over the years, they've modified their cars to all use that kind of fuel. This has gained them a pretty stable place in the apocalypse world, as they can trade fuel for supplies. It also puts them in danger, as well, due to people wanting the place for themselves. This is why all Drivers have cars equipped with guns, and are trained to fight.

The group is lead by one leader who leads for four years, and the leader is chosen by whoever wins a championship that is held every four years. If someone wins every year that it happens, then they will remain the leader until beaten. People can vote to bar someone from the Championship if they believe that they would make a bad leader. Also, if most of the population vote that the current leader is bad, they will be kicked out of 'office' and a championship will be held then to determine who the new leader will be.

The Freedom Racers have basically two main sub-groups. One is the group that stays at the main base, creating the fuel and making/modifying cars and whatnot. They're generally the ones that hold the most races, as well. They're the heart of the operation, since without the fuel, the Freedom Racers would be nothing. Thus, they're also the most heavily defended.

The other group is the traveling group. This group generally consists of at least two oil trucks, one Freight, one or two Cabins, 2-4 Scouts and any number of Drivers, though usually they have enough to defend the Caravan, which is what they call the whole group of vehicles. (The number of Cabins depends on how many Drivers there are). The Caravan travels far and wide, gathering fuel from the cars they come across, as well as gathering any supplies they might come across. They're also used to trade with far away groups. The Drivers that go on these travels can range in experience from beginner to expert, though they usually have at least 4 experienced drivers. The size of the Caravan can vary greatly, as whoever wants to can join them. If needed, the number of oil trucks and Cabins can increase to accommodate a particularly large or small group. After traveling around for however long their fuel will allow, the Caravan will return to the main base for a while before heading out again.

The Freedom Racers have made and modified their own cars for years. To make cars, they use parts taken from other cars and shape it to their will. It generally takes quite a while for a whole new car to be made, which is understandable. They spend most of their resources simply modifying cars to suit their needs. They will pay in fuel for people to bring them guns that they can mount on their cars, or to bring them unusable cars that they will either modify, or use for parts.

The Freedom Racers are an overall peaceful group, preferring to make alliances and have fun. They will fight if they have to, though, and as their main weapons are cars, they can be quite the enemy in battle. However, the disadvantage is that while basically everyone there can fight, not many fight as well as a specifically trained soldier would.

Races are a near constant occurrence at the main base, and sometimes even the Caravan has races to loosen up with. The Freedom Racers are about having fun, first and foremost, after all. They have built their own tracks, and even do derby here and there. For the derby, they only generally use old cars that have no use, or one that they used for parts, that still work, but are no longer useful as a Driver car.

The mechanics and car builders have recently started upgrading the cars with solar panels. No to make them entirely solar powered, but to power some of the more minor systems, such as lights or windshield wipers, causing the car to use less fuel.

Technology Summary: (Will also explain some of the different types of people and vehicles here)
The Freedom Racers have designed their own vehicles over the years, using what they find, whether from abandoned military bases, or just wherever they are. Using these supplies, they have created unique vehicles to suit their needs. Here are some of them:
-Cabins: The 'Cabins' are made specifically for the Caravan, and serve no real propose in the main base. There are a total of four Cabins, though they want to make more if they can find the appropriate vehicle to do so. The Cabin is a simple vehicle. It contains two rows of bunk beds, a driver's seat and some small storage areas for the people of the Caravan's personal belongings. It is not recommenced to use the beds while they Cabin is moving. The Cabin has no weapons. It is designed for both off-road and on-road driving.
-Freight: Freights are sort of the tanks of the Caravan, with the heaviest weapons the Freedom Fighters can find. There is only one of these, and it is vital to the Caravan's survival, as it carries all the food, water and ammo, as well as various other necessary supplies. It was built over many years, and is built to last. It could withstand a car driving directly in to the front of it at full speed, and hardly even flinch. It is, however, hard to maneuver through rubble, though it can push cars and similar debris out of the way. It does best when on cement roads, but can handle dirt roads fairly well, and can even go off-road if it has to, though the going is often slow when doing so. It has two rocket launchers on the front, though these have never been used. Such a thing is sort of a deterrent for attacks. Which is lucky, because it has very limited ammo, and can only fire each rocket launcher six times (The amount of ammo it has to start with). In addition to this, it has a mounted gun on the back.
-Oil Truck: The name sort of speaks for itself. These trucks contain the diesel for the Caravan. The diesel is generally used to fuel the Caravan's vehicles, but can also be used for trade. The Caravan extends the amount of time they can remain away from the base before having to return by siphoning fuel from the cars they come across. There are two Oil Trucks designed like the one in the link, but they have more then that. If it is determined that the Caravan needs more fuel, they will use more generic trucks for that use. The oil tankers have no weapons, though the two Wolf Tankers, as the two most used are called, are perfectly capable of ramming things, as well as lasting quite a while in a firefight before being irreparably damaged. The other oil trucks are just sort of oil trucks, though generally the windows are designed to be more protective. The oil tanker can drive on both cement and dirt roads fine, but struggles offroad.
-Scouts: The scouts are, well, the scouts of the Freedom Racers, and are positioned both with the Caravan, and the main base. The Scouts use motorcycles, generally of the dirt bike kind, for more maneuverability through debris and whatnot, as well as being a smaller target, thus making them harder to notice if scouting out a danger. With the Caravan, they serve to scout out areas for potential supplies, or to check whether or not cars in the road have fuel that they could siphon. They will also scout out potential dangers, and advise the Caravan on the road ahead, and the best paths to take. In the main base, Scouts will occasionally do supply runs, as well as scouting their 'border', to make sure there are no threats. The main base scouts tent to be more combat oriented, as they have the responsibility of keeping Clickers from crossing the border, and will generally also be the first to come across a border threat, though they won't attack unless directly threatened.
-Drivers: Drivers make up the main population of the Freedom Racers. They use cars generally mounted with guns of some sort, and if their car doesn't have a gun, they usually have one on themselves. The cars the Drivers use vary greatly, from pick-up trucks, to SUVs, to muscle cars, to buggies. Anything that they can find, really. Even smart cars, if it comes to that. The Drivers are the main attack force of the Freedom Racers, and make a hard target, but they mostly just race and have fun. With the Caravan, the Drivers act as guards for the Freight, Cabins and Oil Trucks. At the main base, they act as the guards and soldiers of the main base when needed, and will sometimes patrol around their territory. The fact that they're all in cars makes them a hard target to hit, though it also makes it harder for them to hit targets, generally.
-Carriers: Carriers are specific to the main base, and are used for bringing old cars back to the main base for parts. They're also used to carry scrap metal and other useful parts. The cabin of these trucks are also occasionally used for oil carriers if the Caravan needs more. It has no weapons, and can drive both on road and off road fine.
-Mechanics and Car Builders: Despite how simple these jobs may seem to be, they are the life blood of the Freedom Riders. Without them, the group would fall apart. Quite literally. Their jobs and what they do are pretty clear. They build, repair and modify cars.

Their weapons tech varies greatly. Most cars are equipped with some kind of gun or other, though the most common are mounted machine guns, generally less powerful then typical mounted guns. Such as, they could have a mounted AK-47 or something less powerful. Some will be equipped with more melee-worthy weapons, such as spikes or rams. They basically just use what they find.

RP Example (Not really absolutely needed):

If anyone wants to have a character in this group, just ask.

Maybe there should be a certain limit to groups still, but I don't really need limits on random people. Just so that everyone doesn't just make groups after groups and maybe it will make it more likely for some of the single characters actually interact with other people and everyone's not just RPing their groups with themselves :P

I don't really want to be. I mean, I could be like, a minor one that just points out things I think don't really work, but I don't want to be responsible for accepting apps and whatnot.

Also, edited in a basic location for my group
