Hogwarts: A New Era

Dear young wizards and witches,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find list enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl by no later than July 31.

It has been more than 30 years since Harry Potter defeated the dark wizard Voldemort, and the Wizarding World has reached a new era. An era of peace. An era of stability. However, dark forces are on the rise, and all this peace could go up in flames. Despite all of Hermione Weasley's(nee Granger) work to revolutionize the Ministry of Magic, some of the species of the wizarding world are still adamant about obtaining more rights. Goblin revolutionary actions are now common, werewolf attacks happen much more often, Squib protesting is at an all time high, and new wizard terrorist groups are on the rise. As the Ministry of Magic tries to deal with these problems, dark forces are attempting to take advantage of the chaos. Will the Wizarding World be faced with the Third Wizarding War?

But even with the problems at hand, life goes on. As a young witch or wizard, you are entering Hogwarts School of Witchcraft to start your education. In this changing time however, you will have to decide the kind of witch or wizard you will be. Which house will you be in? Will you find friends? Will you succeed in your classes? Will you make the Quidditch team? Will you find love? Will you be tempted to join the dark forces on the rise? The choice is up to you! Let the magic begin!

Rules:

1. I am the OP, so what I say goes. Any CO-OP I appoint will speak with my voice when I am unavailable.
2. No God-modding, meta-gaming, etc., etc. Basically, be fair and don't make your character perfect.
3. You may make as many students or Ministry officials as you would like, but don't go overboard. You are limited to one professor. You may make your student any year, but I recommend being a first year.
4. Be polite and mature.
5. Be realistic. Sure this RP is about magic, but be logical. A first year will not be able to do complex magic.
6. No canon characters, unless I give you explicit permission.
7. If you are going to be inactive, TG me or post it to the thread.
8. No one-liners! Put some effort into your posts.
9. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy your time at Hogwarts!

For the duration of his time at Hogwarts an altogether closer eye was attempted to kept on him by the staff, to little effect as he seemed despite what many claimed was a traumatic experience in the forest more inquisitive and confident than ever, only his friends noticed that whatever else had happened in the forest he seemed to have gained a degree of restraint. He left Hogwarts four years after the fall of Voldemort, having passed his subjects at all levels and to some consternation to the professors seemingly vanished from sight.

Far from vanishing he spent the summer after at the Centaur Colony completing other aspects of his education before setting out to explore the world and it's wonders and over the next ten years before returning to Hogwarts scant hours after Professor Trelawney announced her resignation, after a brief interview he was duly employed as the new Divination and Magical Philosophy teacher.

Over the years he would set a markedly different tone to his predecessor from reworking the Divination curriculum to for want of a better phrase getting out more as he was still as much of a showman as ever if somewhat more guarded and untouchable he established a tradition of gifting all new students with a letter at the beginning of each year stating simply that they would know when to open them flawlessly demonstrating his talent for the subject and at the same time teaching his students that the future is not always set in stone.

Also, I have forgotten, but is it possible for first years to be over the age of ten? Cause I noticed in the movie some of them actually looked like they were about fifteen. Didn't know if the books supported that or not.

They are actually all 11. You have to be 11 to enter Hogwarts as a first year.

He does not have many friends, preferring to keep to books and the library as a way of avoiding his father. After the letter came talking about Hogwarts his father denied him to go to the school, instead James broke into his father's room, stole his wand and was off. Coming to the forest where Anna had died he saw fearful skeletal horses. After hearing his father shouting he found the horse closest to his size, a oddly different colored one at that, and took off on it. He plans on attending the school if he can, praying that he doesn't get sent back as that would mean one very angry father's wrath.

Lynn freaked out, grabbing her baby brother, who was two years old then, and ran to the neighbor, who was a friend of her mum and was also a witch. The neighbor calmed Lynn down, and told her about the magical world. At first, Lynn cried and shouted that they all were crazy people, but she slowly found out it was true, returning home after a half a day curling in a corner, smiling and with a wand, given to her by the neighbor. Her mum was glad, but took the wand and hid it. Luckily, her mum would read old textbooks to Lynn who kept asking questions about the world of magic and if it had a lot of action & bloodshed. By her eleventh birthday, she went to Hogwarts, gaining the wand and knowing only a sliver of the world she would later grow up in. She loved dueling club and had saved her friends from many many deaths.
Interests: Charms, History, action, and Potions.
Strengths: History, sword-fighting, rescuing friends, and reading old texts.

I also have another question, could we make our story unique in the fact that wizards actually know other methods of fighting exist? (getting this from a how it should have ended video I saw on youtube so this is probably a stupid idea) But in the video it ended with Snape walking up from behind Voldermort in the last movie and shooting him in the head before he could go off the bridge with Harry, and it raised a good point. Why have Wizards never used other forms of fighting in the modern age? Or even enchanted weapons to be on par with wands. Godrick Gryffindor had a sword, so what if they actually had extra curricular activities at Howarts relating to non-magic forms of fighting (being as if you were attacked in the Muggle world it would be wise to not use your wand or magic) or even enchanting items and weapons. Darn you Lor, I made it too obvious. That was my way of balancing it out since Thestral hair apparently is like the godmod of magic cores. (checked the wiki after I made his app) I figured I would have James struggle with it for a time after learning the nature of his wand before coming to terms with it and being able to use it again. What I will have him use instead of his real wand in that time though I don't know yet, but I will think of something.

I've seen that video.

But I think the reason that they don't utilize other forms of fighting is because a) They are so stuck in their ways and b) Because magic is good enough for them. I am open to having the extra curricular, but for the sake of this RP, I would say that magic will obviously be the predominant way to fight.
