The set of tasks before Norm Carricker and the Solderan national football team laid before them like a gauntlet of responsibility.

First, there was playing two friendlies to tune up for the Cup of Harmony with one away and one back at King Anthony Stadium. Secondly, there was the set of meetings Carricker and technical director Dahvid Leib would have with the scouting department to go over the player pool, develop a training program and evaluate the players who were replacing Joey Westway in midfield and Davis Gomez in defence. There was the matter of deciding whether to keep the 4-4-2 or modify their approach, possibly to a 3-5-2 or even a throw-caution-to-the-wind 3-4-2-1.

Carricker would also sit in on the meetings as Soldera continued to develop the country's football pyramid. The plan was already in place, but the particulars about whom to entrust with the various club teams, the ownership structure, etc. were still matters to be decided. So, too was the coordination with the national team, and hence, Carricker and Leib.

Those thoughts were in the back of Carricker's mind as the Snakes dropped both post-qualifying friendlies, a 3-2 road defeat against Schima Bas and a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of United Adaikes. Right now, he wanted to see how his reserves handled game situations. He would learn in the loss at Schima Bas: Not well.

"We made mistakes in the back that we just can't have once we start playing the ones that count in the standings," Carricker said. "I'm disappointed, but I'm also realistic about the fact that these weren't matches that count in the standings. We wanted to make sure we got our players experience and we were able to do that."

As for replacing Westway, both in the starting lineup and as captain, Carricker put his hands up with a wistful smile.

"One thing at a time, please!" he said. "We're confident we'll get someone in the lineup to replace Westway as a midfielder, but replacing his leadership and the intangibles he brings? That's borderline impossible." Replacing the retiring Gomez in defense was also something for Carricker to consider. He said that would be a bit different since Gomez earned a spot in the starting lineup later on than Westway did, but it would still be a loss.

"You're talking about another guy who's played a key role in this team and its development," Carricker said. "You don't just replace guys like that in your lineup without there being an adjustment period."

Overview

Sendhang or Federation of Sendhang is a a landlocked nation located in the Melayu Archipelago on the Melayu Mainland. It has a land border with Acastanha, Kayangan, Springmont, Havynwilde, Bachok, and Samudera Darussalam. Sendhang consists of a federal territory and 4 states namely Lemah Banyu, Alamsunda, Putrasia, and Nainhá.

Football in Sendhang is governed by the newly-formed Persatuan Sepakbola Seluruh Sendhang (PS3). PS3 was officially formed over four years ago. Before the formation of PS3, football in Sendhang was governed separately by each of the state FAs. There was no Sendhang national team prior to the formation of PS3.

The formation of PS3 also paved the way for a new national league, the Liga Super Sendhang (LSS) which kicked off its inaugural season 4 years ago. There was no national league before the introduction of LSS. Each of the state FAs organized their league separately before that.

Sendhang is currently ranked 73rd in the world.

Staffs & Tactics

Head Coach: Teuku Irfan

Teuku Irfan was officially appointed as the head coach of the national team prior to the 82nd Cup of Harmony after leading Sendhang to 5 wins, a draw, and a defeat in his 7 matches as the caretaker coach after Teuku Syarkawi was sacked. He is a graduate of sports science from the Universiti Sendhang and this is his first job as a head coach.

Irfan started his career with KS Tapaklaboh as the assistant to Teuku Syarkawi. He was brought to the national team setup 3 years ago after Teuku Syarkawi was appointed as the national team head coach.

Assistant Head Coach: Teuku Syarkawi

Teuku Syarkawi is the former head coach of KS Tapaklaboh, the most successful club in Putrasia in the States League era before the introduction of Liga Super Sendhang. He was appointed as the first head coach of the Sendhang national team a week after PS3 was officially announced. It was an easy decision for the decision-makers in PS3 at that time as Syarkawi is a very highly-rated head coach among football enthusiasts in Sendhang, especially Putrasia.

He was sacked by PS3 from the head coach position after six consecutive winless runs in the first half of the 90th World Cup qualifiers but was later handpicked by Teuku Irfan to be the assistant head coach of the national team. He is a long-time friend of Irfan who was his assistant at KS Tapaklaboh and the national team. The two complement each other and have worked well together for years. Irfan will usually lead team training while Syarkawi spent most of his time monitoring the training from his office while analyzing data and formulating strategies.

Style Modifier : -2
Formation : 4-1-2-3 DM

Teuku Irfan is a defensive-minded counter-attacking coach. He prefers to play with a defensive midfielder to protect the back four and to start counter-attacks. This is accompanied by two quick wingers that will sit deep to help the defense when they don't have the ball and get in position to launch a counter-attack while in transition when they have just won the ball.

Irfan prefers his team to be very disciplined in defending. His team will sit deep and frustrate the opponent for 90 minutes if needed. He doesn't believe in possession football. He wants his team to be very direct and quick when attacking. As his mentor and current assistant manager said, "possession doesn't win games. Goal does. Keep it tight at the back and hit team on the break."

Players
Starting Line Up in bold

Goalkeeper

Image

GK: Albertus Wageo (CAPTAIN)
Age: 32
Club: KS Larantuka

Albertus Wageo is the Liga Super Sendhang’s goalkeeper of the year in the first 2 seasons of the Liga Super Sendhang. He signed for KS Larantuka from PS Oelmasi at the start of the inaugural Liga Super Sendhang on a free transfer. The Oelmasi-born goalkeeper helped his new club to a second-place finish in the inaugural season before leading the club to the league title 2 seasons ago, conceding the least goal in both seasons. His selection as the captain of the national team 3 years ago has been an honor for him. His leadership, integrity, influence, and high social skills are what the coach sees in him. Syarkawi believed that Wageo as a captain could unite the new squad which comprises of players from different backgrounds.

Bench:

Image

GK: Monyet Pasuryan
Age: 29
Club: Persejo Kratonredjo

Monyet Pasuryan's ability in guarding the Persejo Kratonredjo goal in the inaugural season of Liga Super Sendhang deserved a thumbs up and earned him a call-up to the national team. The 28 years old Kratonredjo-born sweeper goalkeeper was ever-present for the club from the state capital of Lemah Banyu for the past 2 seasons. He only conceded 21 times in the 22 matches in the first season, 22 times in 22 matches 2 seasons ago and 23 times in 22 matches last season. This record led Persejo Kratonredjo to be the 4th least conceded team in the inaugural Liga Super Sendhang season, the 2nd least conceded team 2 seasons ago and the least conceded team last season which earned him the goalkeeper of the season award for the first time last season.

GK: Sonny Gunawan, 25 - KS Gunung Kayasu

Defender

Image

DR: Teuku Hamzah
Age: 26
Club: KS Tapaklaboh

Small and cunning, that is how the media described Teuku Hamzah. He is one of the four KS Tapakbaloh players called up by Syarkawi to the national team, their former head coach. His performance in the last 3 seasons convinced Syarkawi to call him up for national duty. Sendhangite will be looking for him to use his speed and agility to make overlap to open the space for Sendhang down the wing.

Image

DC: Teuku Muhammad Bari
Age: 31
Club: KS Tapaklaboh

Teuku Muhammad Bari is a strong and commanding center-back. He is very highly rated by Syarkawi who coached him at KS Tapaklaboh but Bari is not a player that football fans in Putrasia are interested in because of his temperament. While he is a regular player for his club, he is also a regular on the referee's notebook for the yellow and red cards. He is often seen kicking the opponent's leg, sometimes he is in trouble for it but sometimes he gets away with it. His disciplinary record is bad. Nevertheless, he won the Liga Super Sendhang best defender of the year award in the inaugural Liga Super Sendhang season. His ability to mark, tackle and close down opponents is enough for Syarkawi to call him up. He is also an asset when defending or attacking a set-piece due to his heading ability and jumping reach.

Image

DC: Putra Lumipada
Age: 31
Club: Persejo Kratonredjo

Putra Lumipada consistently led the back four of Persejo Kratonredjo for the past 3 seasons. His role for his club is irreplaceable. The ball-playing defender won the Liga Super Sendhang’s best defender of the year award last season. The 30 years old Kratonredjo-born who is also the captain of Persejo Kratonredjo was very commanding throughout the last 3 seasons and kept his backline very disciplined.

Image

DL: Niko Kefalo
Age: 29
Club: KS Larantuka

The 28 years old defender of KS Larantuka is the star player of his club helping his club to 3 Liga Mese Nainhá and a Liga Super Sendhang title. His consistent performance earned him the defender of the year award 2 seasons ago. He is entering his ninth-year with KS Larantuka after his contract was extended for another 3 years 2 seasons ago.

Bench:
DR: Edo Rungao, 27 - FS Waingapu
DC: Kurniadi Pranoto, 26 - KS Gunung Kayasu
DC: Dadan Winata, 26 - KS Danokota
DL: Jahut Seletar, 27 - Perseguput Gunung Putri

Midfielder

Image

DM: Josua Beripeda
Age: 30
Club: KS Larantuka

The call-up of Beripeda 3 years ago was quite surprising. The regista was playing for PS Ruteng which is a middle-level club in Nainhá. The club never even reached the top 4 of Liga Mese Nainhá but Beripeda's performance caught the eye of Teuku Syarkawi. His flexibility is amazing. Although originally a defensive midfielder, he could move forward to help the attack. He is also comfortable playing as a sweeper. This versatility makes Beripeda a unique addition to the national team. He signed for the champion of Nainhá, KS Larantuka before the inaugural Liga Super Sendhang season to challenge himself at the highest level in Sendhang football and it was arguably the best transfer of the season as Beripeda went on to become the Liga Super Sendhang’s best player of the year in the first 2 season of the Liga Super Sendhang and helped KS Larantuka to clinch the title 2 seasons ago.

Image

MC: Teuku Hassan Al Qari
Age: 33
Club: KS Tapaklaboh

Teuku Hassan Al-Qari is the captain of KS Tapaklaboh. He is very highly respected by his teammates. He spent his entire career with KS Tapaklaboh. The emergence of Teuku Herman 3 seasons ago, a KS Tapaklaboh academy graduate challenged Hassan's place in the starting eleven but Syarkawi is confident that Hassan can maintain his form and skills for the foreseeable future and deserved his place in the starting eleven of the national team. His main quality is his creativity, vision, and passing ability. Hassan is another player that the national team can rely on to take the free kicks and corner kicks.

Image

MC: Nanang Wirajuda
Age: 31
Club: KS Danokota

Nanang Wirajuda was a key player for KS Danokota for the past few seasons in which they clinched the Liga Perdana Alamsunda title in the last 3 seasons before Liga Super Sendhang was introduced. He is usually deployed as an advanced playmaker or a box-to-box midfielder at his club. Sendhangite will be looking to see Nanang replicate his club form for the national team especially with his composure, long-range passing, and high stamina. He is the deal-ball specialist for his club and the national team.

Bench:
DM: Jorok Mendriq, 24 - Perseguput Gunung Putri
MC: Wedhus Geni, 27 - KS Gunung Kayasu
MC: Teuku Herman, 22 - KS Tapaklaboh

Forward

Image

AMR: Ramon Kalbasi
Age: 27
Club: KS Larantuka

Ramon Kalbasi is one of the standout performers for KS Larantuka in the past 3 seasons, in which they finished as runner-up before clinching the title 2 seasons ago and finished runner-up again last season. His trickery and dribbling skills caught the eye of many and earned him a spot in the Liga Super Sendhang’s best XI of the year award in all 3 Liga Super Sendhang seasons so far. The right inside forward is also a huge threat in terms of goalscoring as he went on to be the second top goalscorer in the league behind Teuku Salahuddin in the first 2 seasons before winning the golden boot last season.

Image

AML: Keylar Samoi
Age: 30
Club: KS Gunung Kayasu

Keylar Samoi is the main attacking threat for his club, KS Gunung Kayasu and led them to their first ever Liga Lemah Banyu title last season. He mainly plays on the left-wing but is also comfortable playing as a striker. His main strength is his pace, dribbling, and long shot. He also showed that he can be a goalscoring threat last season as he finished third in the top goalscorer chart of the Liga Super Sendhang behind Ramon Kalbasi and Teuku Salahudin.

Image

ST: Teuku Salahuddin
Age: 23
Club: KS Tapaklaboh

Teuku Salahuddin confirmed his status as the best striker in the country 2 seasons ago after winning 3 end-of-season Liga Super Sendhang awards, the most award won by a single player. Salahudin led the line of attack for Sendhang for the first time in the World Cup 89 qualifiers after winning the striker of the year, young player of the year as well as the golden boot award. The 90th World Cup qualifier will be Salahudin's second tournament as the main striker after getting the nod to start towards the end of the 89th World Cup qualifier. Standing at only 170cm, Salahuddin is miniature in size but very quick and clinical in finishing. He won the golden boot award 2 seasons ago and is the second highest goalscorer in the latest Liga Super Sendhang season.

Bench:
Image

AMR - Temiar Kintak
Age: 30
Club: Perseguput Gunung Putri

Temiar Kintak is not known for his goalscoring ability but he ticked all the boxes preferred by Syarkawi to fill this position. He is a very hardworking player who will help the defense, probably run on 3 lungs because he never gets tired and most importantly has the pace and trickery to launch a counter-attack when they won the ball.

Image

AML: Cezar Nowela
Age: 26
Club: KS Larantuka

Unlike most of the players in the national team squad, Cezar Nowela was not part of the original squad that participated in the 7th Melayu Archipelago Cup, Sendhang's first-ever competitive international tournament. The left inside forward was only called up 2 years ago after his performance with KS Larantuka in the first few Liga Super Sendhang matches 2 seasons ago caught the eye of Teuku Syarkawi. Sendhangite will be looking for Nowela’s pace when hitting the opponent on the break as well as getting into the opponent’s penalty box for a goalscoring chance.

Image

ST - Gusti Sing Nggawe
Age: 31
Club: Perserejo Kratonredjo

Gusti Sing Nggawe was the star of the national team before Teuku Salahudin took over that role. He was the top goal scorer of Liga Lemah Banyu 2 and helped Pesisir United to a third-place finish, enough for them to earn a spot in the new Liga Super Sendhang 3 seasons ago. He gained national prominence after scoring 5 of the 7 goals for Sendhang in the 7th Melayu Archipelago Cup especially after scoring the winning goal against Trolleborg. He then went on to score 16 goals in his first 13 international appearances. He is a very good header of the ball, has good first touch, and is very sharp in the penalty box but lost his place to Salahudin after a bad year in front of goal 2 years ago. He moved to Perserejo Kratonredjo at the start of 2 seasons ago to rejuvenate his touch in front of goal and helped his new club to a second-place finish in his debut season as the third-highest scoring player in the league behind Teuku Salahudin and Ramon Kalbasi. However, he then went on a slump again last season making people to question his consistency.

DAY 31 - MONTH 12 - YEAR 8

I still can help - Teuku Syarkawi

Kambang: The former national team head coach, Teuku Syarkawi explained that the decision to remain with the national team as the assistant head coach was an easy choice despite receiving offers from several other clubs.

But at the same time, he did not want people to see his acceptance to be the assistant head coach of the national team as a demotion, instead, he just wanted to continue to help in any way possible.

“Honestly, I have received offers to be the head coach of several Liga Super Sendhang clubs but I did not choose to go there because I feel I still can contribute to the national team. This is not a difficult choice for me to say yes to Irfan because everyone knows we have been together for a long time. This is not a question of wanting to be number one or two but because I believe I can still offer something to the national team," he said.

Teuku Syarkawi was the head coach of the national team for three years. He was sacked from the post after an abysmal performance in the first half of the 90th World Cup qualifier. He was later replaced by his assistant, Teuku Irfan who later appointed Teuku Syarkawi back as the assistant head coach.

THE VALLADAR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

OFFICIAL ROSTER FOR THE 82ND CUP OF HARMONY

Coaching Staff:

Head coach: Federico Rassmussen
Assistant coach: Rodrigo Araneda
Goalkeeping coach: Paulo Gaviria
Fitness coach: Frank Wolff
Team doctor: Mateo Ferreira
Physiotherapist: Sandra Romero
Video analyst: Alfredo Tinelli

The prodigal son returns home, and Federico Rassmussen is back home to make his dream of being at the helm of La Nacional come true. The last winning manager of the Series B Champions' Cup with Valladar side Valencia FC, Rassmussen had the chance to enjoy a learning experience at the Independent Athletes of Quebec, first as an assistant and then taking over as permanent manager ahead of the 81st Cup of Harmony, where his team earned a third place finish. That performance, watched first-hand by Valladars as both Valladares and IAQ were drawn into the same CoH group, convinced the VFA executives that he was the man to replace the liked, yet harshly criticized Dagan manager Jessica Curran starting from this World Cup cycle. And so he is here, eager to show his progress in front of his fellow nationals now that he has had his first international managerial stint. With Rassmussen, fans have been treated to a high-pressing team which tries to regain ball possession as soon as they lose it instead of falling back to regroup and then take advantage of its speedy players up front to counterattack, thus resulting in a high offensive output that comes with terms to the traditional approach of Valladar football.

Squad:

GOALKEEPERS
Lucien Chamoun - GK - 30 - Image Crisisbless
Steven Piatti - GK - 26 - Image Fontvielle Impact
Ariel Fraser - GK - 25 - Image Metropolis Alligators

Lucien Chamoun remains as the first-choice keeper for the Valladar NT ahead of this competition due to his performances at World Cup qualification. However, Danilo Araúz will be replaced by Steven Piatti and Ariel Fraser for the Cup of Harmony, as part of Federico Rassmussen's plan to ensure a smooth generational turnover. It should also be noted that both Piatti and Fraser were given chances to play in World Cup qualification and were successful in impressing the NT gaffer to book their places in the final list of 23 players.

DEFENDERS
Alejandro Acosta - RB - 31 - Image Edmonton United
Gonzalo Peralta - RB - 25 - Image Nacional
Danny Barrichelli - CB - 27 - Image Canalave Dragons
Mauricio Arboleda - CB - 26 - Image Falourr
Pablo Núñez - LB - 25 - Image Marinos Metropolis
Luan Barbosa - LB - 28 - Image Real Campo Grande

Alejandro Acosta, Danny Barrichelli, and Pablo Núñez will continue being the first choice of defenders for La Nacional in the CoH. Acosta is believed to have met the expectations set on him and should continue being instrumental in covering rival advances through the right flank, along with Danny Barrichelli who has consolidated himself as a starter due to his strength in aerial play which has been quite useful for the national team on both halves of the field. Pablo Núñez will continue being the first-choice leftback in the national team, displaying interesting skills at initiating counters. Mauricio Arboleda, who has been overshadowed by Barrichelli to some extent in spite of his accolades and international experience (DBC champion), should be expected to cover his fellow centreback from the bench, along with Gonzalo Peralta and Luan Barbosa, who will be the renovation quota in the defense for this competition and will be eager to get more chances to play and show what they've got to offer.

MIDFIELDERS
Darwin Pico - DMR - 31 - Image Mar Sara FC
Paulo Ferraz - DMR - 27 - Image Real Campo Grande
Christian O'Brien - DML - 32 - Image Tanrısal (Captain)
Kevin Martins - DML - 29 - Image Fontvielle Impact
Fabio Betancourt - AMR - 31 - Image Hondo FC
Andrés Abrigo - AMR - 25 - Image Urbizania Wanderers
Alexis Durmisi - AML - 31 - Image Urbizania Wanderers
Nicholas Thaller - AML - 24 - Image Eterna Stars
Cristian Benítez - AMC - 25 - Image Cazadores Cathair
Marcelo Zamudio - AMC - 29 - Image Metropolis Alligators

The middle of the field is the pivotal zone to Federico Rassmussen's tactics, being there the zone where his counter-pressure tactics are executed, and for this reason most of the players coming from the previous process continue in the squad. Darwin Pico, Christian O'Brien, Fabio Betancourt, Alexis Durmisi, and Cristian Benítez are the five players heading Rassmussen's list for the Valladar midfield, all of them being relatively important elements in their respective clubs, although Benítez struggled to adapt himself to Rassmussen's style of play during World Cup qualifiers. Paulo Ferraz will join Kevin Martins in the defensive midfield, both prevailing in their particular competition against Pablo Abreu and William Alonso, respectively, Andrés Abrigo showed some interesting things in his return to the Valladar radar (especially when paired with club teammate Alexis Durmisi on the other wing) and confirmed his spot in the squad, with Marcelo Zamudio also earning his chance following some outstanding performances coming from the bench which included goals in most cases. The surprise addition in this line is Nicholas Thaller, the Eterna Stars young winger being once again considered and ahead of a more experienced player in Aldo Pereira due to Rassmussen's interest in making a place for the next generation of Valladar NTers.

FORWARDS
Aymeric Fortin - FW - 31 - Image Montreal Koreana
Thibault Benezet - FW - 31 - Image Sabrefell Athletic
Mateo Foschini - FW - 31 - Image Hondo FC
Gabriel Petrasso - FW - 30 - Image Tanrısal

To the average Valladar fan, the forwards are what the midfield is to Federico Rassmussen: the heart and soul of the team. Without forwards, there are no goals, and without goals, there are few chances to succeed. Rassmussen clearly understands this and has chosen to work with players with high stamina and skill as well as proven killer instinct. Competition in this line of the field was especially rough during World Cup qualification given the amount of talented Valladar strikers both at home and around the multiverse who had their chances to show themselves to the manager during qualification, but at the end of the day Mateo Foschini, Thibault Benezet, and Gabriel Petrasso, all of them prolific scorers in Valanora, Nephara, and Pasarga will be making the trip to Montaña Verde or The Licentian Isles. The fourth and last spot was awarded to Aymeric Fortin, who despite not being a first-choice striker anymore still proved to be reliable enough on the field whenever he was needed, contributing with crucial goals which helped the Valladar NT keep a shot at World Cup qualification until the end.

Starting Lineup, Formation, and Tactics:

Bench/Reserves:
12. S. Piatti
13. G. Peralta
14. M. Arboleda
15. L. Barbosa
16. P. Ferraz
17. K. Martins
18. A. Abrigo
19. N. Thaller
20. M. Zamudio
21. M. Foschini
22. G. Petrasso
23. A. Fraser

The Valladar national football team is known for having its traditional 3-2-2-3 (or 3-4-3 for general reference) formation, which for this WC campaign will mutate into a 3-5-2 by pushing back one of the three forwards to act as a playmaker, and can turn into either a very aggressive yet non-conventional 3-2-5 for attacking or a 5-4-1 (a 3-6-1, even) when the team feel the need to enter into a defensive mode. La Nacional will always be looking to attack and retain ball possession for as long as possible, trying to score many goals in the shortest possible time and mounting an insurmountable lead for the second half of the match when players from both teams start showing signs of fatigue, with new manager Federico Rassmussen aiming to implement high-pressing elements for whenever the team lose possession of the ball. This squad mostly relies on the speed of its wingers both in attack and in defense modes, with another couple of players (nowadays Darwin Pico and Christian O'Brien) playing the role of defensive midfielders that was well covered by Jonathan Bosetti, Pedro Pedretti, and Bryan Castillo in the past: both should be able to exert strong pressure whenever the team lose ball possession, thus giving rival forwards a very hard time when trying to break through the Valladar defense. Regardless of who the trio (now duo) playing up front is made of, those strikers are well prepared under the premises of the typical Valladar forward: very speedy and talented, with the ability to seemingly harmless crosses into goals, create chances and score goals out of nothing, and kill defenses with speed and lethal counterattacks.

Having qualified for the past three World Cups, including one Ro16 appearance, Tikariot had established itself as one of the multiverse's top footballing nations, even though the latest edition of World Cup 89, hosted in Tikariot and South Newlandia to boot, had been a major disappointment with only one point and the Copa Rushmori was another desastrous performance. After a lot of discussions about the future direction of the team and with it the future of coach Stuart Ekstrom, the TFF had decided to put things behind them and look ahead instead with an unchanged management side of things moving into the qualifying campaign for WC90 and unfortunately Tikariot fell short by one point, missing out on the playoffs. Now, with former assistant coach Brian McAllister returning from a very successful tenure in Sargossa, where he won two Copa Rushmori, Tikariot's football faithful are looking towards the Cup of Harmony 82 for redemption.

Image
The same the fans of the senior team, the fans of the Owlets also deserve particular mentioning. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). The players will form a triangle near the kick off circle and lift their arms, which the fans do as well. Then a lone drum will start to signal the rhythm and both players and fans alike will move in unison, each clap accompanied with a loud cry, the claps (and cries) speeding up, creating an overwhelming sense of impending doom.

Image
Brian McAllister - 48 Image
After having been assistant to now former coach Stuart Ekstrom, Brian McAllister made the move to Sargossa and enjoyed a lot more success than his former mentor, having two Copa Rushmori victories under his belt, so with the expiration of his contract in Sargossa and Ekstrom's dismissal after the disappointing string of results aligning, the timing was perfect for McAllister to return to his native country in the driver's seat. He had been a proponent of the same flexible 4-3-3 setup that Ekstrom had almost perfected to a point and that has not changed during his Sargossan employment, which should make the transition for McAllister easier. The 4-3-3 is still the established system, but flexibility and fluidity play an important role, allowing for the full backs to push forward or the wingers to fall back to create a numeric advantage and either quell opponents' advances or overwhelm them in the play forward. Tactically well educated players are very important in his system as he allows his players a certain degree of freedom on the pitch as well, such as the wingers switching sides or the full backs overlapping the wingers in order to remain unpredictable for opponents and create holes other players can dive into and pull apart the opposing defense.

Image
GOALKEEPER
GK | Brian MERSON | Age: 30 | Team: Twin Saints Image | Caps: 55 | Clean sheets: 11
Mainstay in Tikariot's goal for the last two World Cup cycles, IFCF Champions' League winner with Kitara AA, Brian Merson is without a doubt the Snowy Owls' most successful and in the eyes of many best Tikariotian goal keeper of recent history. Many think that his bold move to Banija helped him take that next step and become a true team leader from behind. Good on the line, strong aerial presence and an excellent read of the game paired with his experience make him the undisputed number 1 in the Tikariot goal.

DEFENDERS
LB | Kelvin ROWLEY | Age: 23 | Team: Oriannor Mountaineers Image | Caps: 25 | Goals: 4 | Assists: 2
On the outside of the defensive quartet, Kelvin Rowley has emerged as one of the top left backs of the league, with tremendous speed, a great eye for his team mates and a strong left foot that can both strike deadly crosses from the goalline and long passes while using his speed to cover space and run off attackers. The only thing he still has to work on is to keep his temper in check as he is still too prone to see yellow cards, but it is this fire that also is infectious and can inspire the rest of the defense.

CB | Xander AUGUSTINSSON | Age: 25 | Team: Xanark City Image | Caps: 15 | Goals: 2 | Assists: 1
One of last season's defensive revelations, Xander Augustinsson had a true breakout season during Xanark's strong return season to the TPL. A very strong physical presence at centre, he is more a stay-at-home defender with strong aerial play and ball recovery, but he also has evolved into an instrumental part of the attacking play with his ability to strike long passes from the back to quickly pick out offensive players.

CB | Caleb MCKINLEY | Age: 21 | Team: Dhun Lagarr FC Image | Caps: 28 | Goals: 2 | Assists: 2
Caleb McKinley has grown into a mainstay both in the Dhun Lagarr and national team defense, as an excellent counterpart to Augustinsson's physical presence he is defensively very sound as well, but adds more speed and technical finesse into the Tikariotian defense. He, too, is capable of helping in switching from defense to offense, but not so much with long passes, but with quicker play.

RB | Clement MCILROY | Age: 23 | Team: Baraldhur AFC Image | Caps: 44 | Goals: 1 | Assists: 1
Clement McIlroy is a returnee to the starting eleven, having pushed Anil Al Hak out of the starting line-up, who is not quite up there with Rowley's speed, but has incredible positioning and introduces a more physical play while still capable of strong, long passes to initiate attacks. Despite some injury problems during the season, he has been Baraldhur's standout defensive player and is considered the undisputed number one choice for the right back position.

MIDFIELDERS
LM | Parris LANGLEY | Age: 25 | Team: Tikariot City FC Image | Caps: 34 | Goals: 4 | Assists: 6
The TPL's runner-up Player of the Year, Langley has definitely broken through as left midfielder of former champions Tikariot City FC with 6 goals and 22 assists to the season. While capable of unleashing a good shot, it is his ability to read the game and deliver laser precise passes pretty much anywhere on the field that makes him such an outstanding player. Having grown into pretty much a complete player, he greatly benefits from having Monaghan behind him in the national team as anchor and allowing him to concentrate on the offensive power.

CM | Celyn MONAGHAN | Age: 29 | Team: Oriannor Mountaineers Image | Caps: 44 | Goals: 8 | Assists: 10
Celyn Monaghan has cemented his position as starter and while his offensive numbers have suffered this season so far, he has tremendously grown as grand orchestrator in the midfield of Oriannor, playing in a more defensive role, as legitimate natural successor to McNair with his strong defensive play, using both positioning and tackling to undermine opposing offensive efforts and immediately switching Tikariot into offense mode by re-distributing the ball quickly and efficiently.

RM | Virgil WICKENS | Age: 21 | Team: Port Rhovanyon AFC Image | Caps: 12 | Goals: 3 | Assists: 6
One of the few players to really grab the bull by the horns during the WC90 qualifying campaign, Virgil Wickens played his way into the starting line-up with two goals and five assists in seven games. Equipped with a hard annd precise shot and an uncanny ability to predict the movement of his team mates to set up goals, he has proven that he can be one of the building blocks for a successful Tikariot future for years to come.

FORWARDS
LW | Morris NIGHTHORSE | Age: 22 | Team: Baraldhur AFC Image | Caps: 108 | Goals: 66 | Assists: 43
Despite his lowest offensive output in his career this season, Tikariotian wunderkind Morris Nighthorse does not just live off his name and numbers recorded in the national team, but he is proving his importance way past the sheer numbers now, with a never-say-die work ethic and the sheer will to drive the ball forward, no matter what. With his speed and agility he is a constant offensive threat that can tear any defense to shreds and draw defenders onto him that will allow for his team mates to take advantage of the resulting space. He remains one of the most unpredictable players in the league, making him an incredible weapon in Brian McAllister's arsenal.

CF | Adam DODD | Age: 28 | Team: Guillarim Blades Image | Caps: 16 | Goals: 7 | Assists: 3
If a player manages to play Tikariot Premier League Player of the Year Jardel Connolly out of a starting spot, he surely must have brought a lot to the table and Guillarim's Adam Dodd did just that with four goals and three assists in nine games. The shooting star of last season is physical, fearless, with a very strong aerial presence and plenty of confidence, so maybe exactly what this team needs after missing out on qualifying for the World Cup.

LW | Xasthur FREDRIKSSON | Age: 28 | Team: Oriannor Mountaineers Image | Caps: 51 | Goals: 18 | Assists: 17
Another of the "winners" of the WC90 qualifying campaign was Xasthur Fredriksson, who ended up second in scoring only behind Morris Nighthorse. Not quite as agile as Nighthorse and not as physical as Dodd, he sits between them, a bit of the best of both worlds, combining it with a lethal instinct to go for the goal whenever he can, his return to the starting eleven maybe also helps in a return of the fortunes for the Snowy Owls.

Cabo Azure National Football Team "Las Maçaricas"

After an unsuccessful qualifying campaign which nevertheless saw some impressive results against the likes of Brenecia and Banija, Maçaricas manager Paulinho will look to keep what worked and toss what didn't. The players are now a year older than they were at the start of qualifying, and a few key pieces have opted to move on from the national team at the end of qualifying, Adalberto Montenegro most prominent among them. Some young prospects did not pan out down the stretch in qualifying, while others have earned themselves chances they might have otherwise had.

The change in personnel is reflected by a change in tactics; lacking a true target forward with the loss of Montenegro, Paulinho has shifted to playing with two at the toplikely the creative, Tikariot-based Silveira and the versatile domestic Dantas. The midfield will stay with three, though they will be charged more with keeping the ball and less with getting forward, while the width of the formation will be provided by the team's pacey wingbacks, Branco and de Lima. Playing 3 at the back means relying more on less-experienced centerbacks, but each of them proved himself in some way during qualifying. Rufino Antunes is no world-beater, but he will remain between the sticks until Gomez is ready to take over.

Tactics
Image
Cabo Azure plays a free-flowing, athletic game that values individual effort over team chemistry and the ability of defenders to get forward over their ability to play compact. The type of player Azureans prefer is typified in Amilcar Branco, a pacey left back who frequently overlaps and sets up chances in the box.

The Gaffer
An amiable, always-smiling man in his sixties who's been in Azurean football as long as anyone can remember, Paulinho has helmed the Maçaricas since their debut in the seventy-sixth Baptism of Fire. Throughout WC90 qualifying, Paulinho managed at times to develop something of an identity, which is more than could be said for previous iterations of the Maçaricas. With the win over Brenecia on the final matchday of qualifying, Paulinho's job is safe for now, though his performance in the Cup could make or break him for the next cycle.

Goalkeepers
GK - Rufino Antunes - 29 y/o - Lagostim
A tall, athletic shotstopper, not prone to coming off his line or making insane saves, but very rarely caught flat-footed.

GK - Ambrosio Gomez - 20 y/o - Olympic Thessia (MYT)
A former U18 player, earned the starting spot for Olympic in the 31/32 Top League. Has shown vast improvement into a strong keeper, may challenge Antunes for time between the stakes.

GK - GIlberto Valente - 25 y/o - Portelo
Lithe and quick, but prone to overcommitting. Rose to prominence when Portelo did the double a season ago, winning the Liga Hidalgo Primer and the Copa Maçarica.

Defenders
RB - Amilcar Branco - 23 y/o - Dhun Lagarr FC (TKT)
A pacey fullback with a penchant for overlapping and one of the only young Azureans to produce abroad, in his case with frequent IFCF side Dhun Lagarr in Tikariot.

CB - Adão Moniz - 22 y/o - Reschensreppur (GRF)
A maddeningly inconsistent young centerback; seemingly a brick wall one match and a turnstile the next. Will hopefully adapt to a 3-at-the-back a little better.

CB - Deodato Medeiro - 23 y/o - Marine Coast United (VIL)
One of the first Azureans to play abroad, Medeiro has surprised many by earning a starting position with Marine Coast, a mid-table team in one of the best leagues in the multiverse. Has developed significantly since moving to Vilita, and the starting spot is likely his to lose.

CB - Kevin Brandão - 25 y/o - Villa Arboles
Donato's older brother, a supremely reliable if unimpressive centerback who excels at defending set pieces. May see the field as a defensive substitute if Paulihno goes to five at the back late in matches.

LB - Ademar de Lima - 22 y/o - Sao Vicente
Branco's doppelganger; though less pacey and not as creative going forward, he is actually much better in 1v1 situations than his rival.

CB - Donato Brandão - 20 y/o - SC Lagos (BOL)
Along with his brother Kevin, one-half of the second set of brothers to play for the Maçaricas in their short history. Has struggled to find playing time at his club behind Bollonich international Klingto and Tikariotian prospect Teodor Finnman.

CB - Gabriel Mendez - 30 y/o - Perolas
One of the few remaining veterans from the original CR38 roster, Mendez has stepped back from being an every-game starter, but will likely see the pitch in a substitute role for one of the three.

FB - Marcelinho Costa - 22 y/o - Regium Immortum (OAM)
A largely unheralded fullback, he has made the most of the extra playing time gifted to him by his club's back-to-back IFCF seasons. A good all-round player, he figures to be a planned substitute where fresh legs are needed to see a match out.

FB - Norberto Carneiro - 27 y/o - Villa Silva
A serviceable backup fullback, he lacks de Lima's grit and Branco's offensive prowess, but can nevertheless be counted on for a shift when called upon.

Midfielders
MF - Abilio Serra - 33 y/o - Lagostim
The Lagostim captain lost a step over the long qualifying campaign, but he is still the best midfielder Cabo Azure when it comes to making smart passes. Expect him to get forward less and rely more on laying off to Ferreira.

MF - Marciano Ferreira - 27 y/o - Sao Cristobal
A prototypical left winger, good at getting the ball forward and into the box and not much else. His technicality leaves a lot to be desired, especially on defense, but he can generally move fast enough to make up for it.

MF - Narciso Maciel - 21 y/o - Colonial SIle (VIL)
A qualifying standout for his good decision making and off-ball movement, Maciel is tipped as a likely starter in the revamped 5-3-2 for the Maçaricas.

MF - Quirino Alves - 32 y/o - Villa Arboles
A defensive-minded center-mid, capable of disrupting plays and winning duels in midfield but running out of options the further upfield you expect him to play.

MF - Nataniel Reis - 28 y/o - Pemba
The Pemba captain and a multiple MVP in the Liga Hidalgo Segundo, Reis was crucial to his team's promotion and subsequent top-half finish. A prototypical CAM, scores goals and finds runners in the box. Likely an offensive sub or a rotational starter.

CM - Seth Rathbone - 18 y/o - Portelo
A star of the Di Bradini Cup, playing with a chip on his shoulder after failing to secure an overseas move last transfer window. A strong, mature center-mid who nevertheless needs to work on his intangibles. Has signed with Portelo for the upcoming season after just one year with Cabecedas.

MF - Marco Lobo - 19 y/o - Villa Silva
After being signed from the dregs of the Liga Hidalgo Segundo, Lobo has evolved into an every-game starter for Silva, based on his preternatural awareness and excellent pass placement.

Forwards
FW - Cleto Silveira - 24 y/o - Vantanoch FC (TKT)
After two cycles supporting Montenegro on the wing, Silveira finds himself in the spotlight as one of two strikers in the newly revamped system. Quick, instinctive, it remains to be seen if his leadership is sufficient to bring this team forward.

FW - Fulvio Dantas - 29 y/o - Cidade de Prata
A versatile player currently slotted as the more withdrawn of two strikers alongside Cleto Silveira, though if the blogs can be believed, he's just keeping the spot warm for one of "Os Dos Vascos". Had a good run in qualifying, always puts in a shift.

FW - Nelson Botehlo - 26 y/o - Villa Arboles
The heir apparent to the legendary Adalberto Montenegro, Botehlo failed to perform well enough to pursuade Paulinho to keep the old system. Still a big target forward and a major threat on set pieces.

FW - Vasco Gouveia - 21 y/o - Tikariot City FC (TKT)
A wily, creative forward who's found a home with one of Tikariot's most storied clubs. Still maddeningly inconsistent for the national team, but when he's on, he's on. One-half of "Os Dos Vascos", viewed in the press as the future of Azurean football.

FW - Vasco Cardoso - 19 y/o - Whitepill (EUR)
A promising young man who's had to learn a lot about himself since moving to the Euran second tier.

FW - Arsenio Galma - 26 y/o - Pemba
A late-blooming striker who surprised many by being a factor in qualifying. Skilled with long-range shots, penalties, and set pieces.

FW - Nicodemo Corte-Real - 18 y/o - Corn Palace (SFD)
One of the emerging crop of big Azurean center forwards that has come into vogue, Corte-Real gained prominence domestically since hitting his growth spurt and developed a reputation as an excellent set-piece player and good with his back to goal. Won a contract with the Sanford Premier League champions Corn Palace.

The post World Cup qualifying campaign for the Sarzonian national football team began with two friendlies, a home match against Schima Bas and an away match to Sargossa.

While Sarzonia came out on the losing end of a disappointing 3-2 result against at Dave Wilson Stadium, the fans were given a chance to cheer when Paolo Gomes entered the match to start the second half with the team trailing 2-0. It would be his first match action since the opening match of World Cup 88 qualifying when he went down with a torn ACL. The Stars played inspired football after they saw their erstwhile starter enter the match, netting two goals within 10 minutes of the second half kickoff.

It looked for all the world that Sarzonia would earn a stirring draw, or perhaps even a thrilling comeback with Gomes playing like he'd never suffered an injury. But Golden Crescent forward Hideki Nazar forced a turnover in the Sarzonia end by defender Charlie King, who was playing in the second half due to a "hamstring tweak" by reserve defender Pat Meyers. They came off, but medical staff cleared them to play in the away match to Sargossa.

"If it were a group stage match or a qualifier, they would have been able to play," manager Nathan Hanifer said. "Perhaps we would have gone with 10 [players], but we just wanted to make sure they were all right in a friendly match context. So I sent Charlie on." King admitted he mishit his attempted clear that resulted in a rocket from Nazar in the 84th minute that stole the result from the Stars.

"I make that clear nine times out of 10," King said. "I just struck it poorly." However, the biggest story of the match was the play of Gomes, who made three saves and was hardly at fault for the match-winning tally.

"I was so excited for [Gomes] that he was able to play," midfielder and team captain Clayton Wilson said. "Not just because it gives us another keeper, but also because he's worked so hard and he's just a great bloke. It's wonderful to have him be part of the team again." Starting goalkeeper Carlton Sandt, who did not play against the Golden Crescent, agreed.

"It was tough to see Paolo injured and have that be the reason I got back into the starting 11," he said. "I love the guy. I'm glad he's back. His return definitely provided us a lift."

The Stars also played to a goalless draw against Sargossa in a match that saw Hanifer play the starting 11 for most of the match, save for inserting reserve goalkeeper Trent Woodson in the 70th minute. Hanifer said he wanted to build Woodson's confidence after he'd allowed the two first half goals to Schima Bas.

"I kind of felt like Trent was feeling threatened for his place on the national team," Hanifer said. "He's an important part of this team and I wanted him to feel like he has our every confidence because he does."

Even though the Stars didn't keep up the results form that saw them win five and draw one match of their final seven in World Cup qualifying, Hanifer and company are looking at these two friendlies as a victory. The goalless draw against Sargossa was considered a positive because it came away to a higher-ranked Sargossa side that went 8-2-4 in Group 6, finishing fourth in the World Cup qualifying group table behind automatic qualifiers Eura and playoff-bound Nyowani Kitara. They were one point behind Chromatika for third place and only two behind Nyowani Kitara for the playoff berth from the group. The defeat to Schima Bas, even though it came to a lower-ranked side at home, was considered a positive because of the play of Gomes in the second half.

Note: The Incorporated Football Federation have invited Poafmersia to play a friendly against the Stars at Mike Sarzo Stadium in Nicksia. The venue is scheduled to undergo renovations, including an expansion stadium officials hope will allow it to become the new national stadium with an expanded capacity to at least 110,000 fans.

OOC: For the people who haven't been keeping up with my RPs since 2004 (guaranteed to be 100% of readers, I'm sure), there's been a few loosely intertwined threads to an overall, grander story of Starblaydia as a nation: it's become worldbuilding via football RPs. I appreciate that just providing a whole bunch of links going back god-knows-how-many cups isn't particularly helpful to dissect this story, as some of the (necessarily immortal) characters have been developing over the course of 75 in-character World Cups over almost 15 RL years. The TL:DR grand picture, however, looks something like this:

World Cup legend (and author avatar) Simeone Di Bradini has lived for the past 50 World Cups as an immortal construct of the Dreamed Realm, thanks to Arch's IC and OOC generosity. In this time, he's saved the multiverse on several occasions, and has also traveled in time, accidentally becoming Starblaydia's version of King Arthur, the once-and-future King Oberyn Starblayde, in his country's ancient past. The Starblayde family, who currently rule Starblaydia, have all been killed off through various ways and means by the evil vampire Viannor, who is currently masquerading as Lady-Protector Korra Starblayde, the hitherto completely imaginary daughter of the former Lord-Protector Julius Starblayde, and is ruling the nation as tightly as a constitutional monarch who was once the head of the secret service and covert intelligence agency can. This is the second time she has been in control of the nation, and the first time did not go well at all.

Simeone has been informed, by the late "Best in the World" goalkeeper and prophet Lucas Cable, that Korra Starblayde is actually Viannor, and will enslave the entire nation/world/universe/multiverse. Simeone, together with Starblaydia national team manager Ázëwyn Fëanáro the elf, along with time-travelling dwarven scientist from the future Dalnir, plans to stop Viannor by recruiting a rag-tag band of commandos, via the process of essentially making their own Dreamed Realm constructs of some characters from the past, including Lucas Cable.

Tons of stuff has come before, which one day I will put all together in one place as the grand story arc of Starblaydia across the ages, but World Cup 78 was the start of a specific arc with a vague plan in mind, rather than just going wherever the narrative happened to take me on a given day.

It was happening everywhere they went, now. As Simeone and Ázëwyn traveled around the Starblaydi island province of Aquiliana, they were constantly pounced on by members of the public, coming up to them and wanting to talk about football. It wasn't surprising, of course, people always wanted to talk to the two of them about football. Usually though, these people were full of well-meaning advice and friendly tips, particularly for Ázëwyn. Daily she was bombarded by requests and requirements to play specific players or formations, criticisms of performance, style, selection and far more besides. Most people just wanted to meet Simeone so they could take a selfie; Ázëwyn was the real star of the show. It wasn't difficult to see why, either.

The current - but for how long - Starblaydi national team coach was tall, slender and beautiful. She had an effortless grace as she moved, gestured and spoke with everyone from children to the elderly. She made everyone who she spoke to feel special, important and, above all, listened to and engaged with. All the people who were coming to speak to them - to speak to her - only had one thing they wanted to say.

"Thank you," they'd say, for putting Starblaydia back among the best teams in the world, where they should really be. From a team that languished barely even in the top 50, to breaking into the top ten and reminding everyone else that they should be respectful, or fearful, of a Starblaydi national team in their pomp.

"Thank you," they'd insist, for giving whole generations of Starblaydi fans a lifetime of appearances in the World Cup. It had brought the good times back, to be able to see their team on the world stage with confidence every two, and four years.

"Thank you," they'd smile, when they told her where they were during the World Cup 83 Final, or the AOCAF Cup 63 Final, when they could wrap themselves in the flag of the country they love and sing or cry their hearts out in nationally-shared moments of triumph and despair.

"Thank you," they'd assure her, for working so hard to make the best team she could, and take them as far as possible no matter the odds, or the opponent, or the situation.

"Thank you," they implored her to understand, speaking from their hearts, for making Starblaydi fans believe again.

"Thank you, ordinary idiots and chuntering cattle masquerading as the average football fan," Tororin Halatyrion spat out the words as he hit mute on his TV remote control, throwing it onto his desk with the clatter of cheap plastic on expensive wood, "for making that bitch an utter PR disaster if we fire her!"

"You're the President of the SFA," Valrauncion said, gesturing from his position by the side cabinet, airily waving his arm around with his short-stemmed, wide-bottomed snifter held between his fingers more casually the one could ever dare, swirling the excessively expensive and alcoholic contents around haphazardly in the glass but never managing to spill it, "you can just fire her, right?"

The two elves stared at each other across the room.

"Not without presenting oneself like a heartless suit and thereby distancing myself yet further from the lowest common denominator oaf in the street," Tororin said.

"You're pretty far away from that particular oaf already," Valrauncion smirked, taking a snip and never taking his gaze from the SFA President for a millisecond, "just fire her."

Tororin sat back in his chair, the hand-made leather creaking ever so slightly as his weight shifted on it, and leaned it back, taking his hands from the table and placing them on the armrests. He was staring back at Valrauncion, meeting the former striker's sardonic smile and for the first time really understanding why so many described him on a rotating basis as 'that arrogant bastard' or simply 'the cock'. The man had absolutely no understanding of other beings, whether from lacking in intelligence, empathy or simply the effort to care what anyone else thought. It dawned on Tororin that this was exactly why Valrauncion had gone to play for Krytenia, of all places, and it wasn't some intentional snub against the SFA, the fans or the establishment: Valrauncion simply didn't give a fuck about anyone else. Valrauncion was out for Valrauncion. Whatever he was recommending, it was because it would benefit himself. He was already the Director of Oberyn Park, what sort of minor leap - barely a hop - would it be to take the reigns of the national team instead? He'd take the money and the plaudits and the attention, and would be the untouchable saviour of the national team when they inevitably qualified for World Cup 91. That wouldn't do at all. Tororin may not have been the most successful of the eleven Starblaydi Elves on the football pitch - in fact he'd played fewer games than any of the others, and his tally of three goals were only more than goalkeeper Dacil Taniquentar and the two other central defenders Palanadu and Yantur Canion - but he counted himself the most successful away from it. Here was a long-serving President of the SFA who had been voted in by the associations of the multiverse to be their President. They'd chosen him, like they'd chosen Lex Panarii, Giovanni Lopez and Simeone Di Bradini. His name stood among theirs as an equal, as an administrator, which he valued beyond any other accolade.

Administrators needed to be above these petty games, he thought to himself as he finally took his eyes off Valrauncion and turned them back to the TV. The SCB Sports News channel had complied some mega-cut of all the footage, both on amateur phones and professional cameras, that had popped up online from a myriad of sources. Ordinary people desperately wanted everyone else to know that they'd met Ázëwyn Fëanáro and got their lifetime of thanks off their chest and into her presence. What made it worse was you could see that she was genuinely touched, acting like someone unused to such high praise despite being one of the most lauded players in history. It looked like every person mattered to her, and Tororin knew that right then and there she was winning the hearts and minds of the nation's football fans. It was an affection that would so easily be turned to indignation if she was summarily fired. Tororin needed a way out, one where he could break the tie in his favour but also save face at the same time. It pained him to even think it, but there was only one guaranteed way he could think of in that moment.

Tororin leaned forward and pressed one of his speed-dial numbers on his sleek executive's phone. It had barely completed its second electronic vibration before it was answered with a crackle and a slightly confused-sounding human male's voice on the other end.

"Yes, boss?"

"Scott," Tororin said in as pleasantly neutral a tone as he could muster, "can you step in for a moment."

"On my way, chief."

It was obviously not a request. But Scott Daytona knew that. Digital Communications guy at the Starblaydi Football Association, Scott was the man with his fingers on the social media button. He was the person responsible when you saw the SFA doing some dumb corporate social media interaction with other well known business brands, trading memes and existential angst like everyone else. He stepped into Tororin Halatyrion's exceptionally spacious office and immediately had two pairs of sharp elven eyes on him.

"Scott," Tororin said, not rising from his chair, "got a question for you. Instinctive answer. Fëanáro: worthy to be sacked?"

Scott Daytona took a long deep breath in, partly from forgetting that he had enough air in his lungs and didn't need more, and partly from knowing that his mind had to immediately shift into its highest gear and possibly save his own career right at that very moment. He puffed out his cheeks and let the air out slowly, composing the most high-wire daredevil act he could think of on the spot.

"Well... I mean," he said,"it's been a mightily long time since a Starblaydi squad has failed to qualify for the World Cup, and they've absolutely never not-made it from a similar ranking position, or funding level, or... well, everything. Buuuuut you have to take into account that not-qualifying basically came down to one result, whether it was the draw to Flavovespia, or the loss to Quakmybush. Don't forget we were in a group with both the IAC and the Esportivan champions, and you both know that the CAFA didn't prepare us all that well for the next tournament... and when have we ever, like in three hundred years of history, y'know, fired a manager based on one game, or even on not-winning four games across a whole Qualifying campaign? We ended up with enough points to win most of the other groups, and the only one we didn't have enough points to get a top-two finish was our own. That's some tough break, right there. A proper Group of Death, and we've never ever let something like that make the decision for us. We always wait for like zero wins in six, or no goals in a tournament or something to pull that trigger. This is not worthy of that, and this is reputational suicide if you do that."

As Scott finished, he pointed at the TV screen, where the News was showing a young girl suddenly running up and hugging Ázëwyn tightly around the hips. Not only could you see the elf was tearing up at the sudden display of affection, but also Simeone Di Bradini, standing next to her, had his supporting arm around her in an especially familiar way, and she was reciprocating the gesture.

"You fire her now," Scott said, holding his phone up, "and you'll be the national bogeyman. I've got her trending on three different hashtags, and the keep-to-bin ration is about six to one."

"What would you recommend, Scott," Tororin said, leaning forward onto his elbows, "with the knowledge, information and experience you possess?"

"Give her a shot at the Cup of Harmony," Scott replied, with more confidence than he really felt, "if you get a good run there we can all bounce back. It's still a major, it's not yet in our trophy cabinet. Just imagine if she could bring it home. They'll be the best team in the Cee-Oh-Aitch by a country mile. I'd figure I'd have a shot at coaching Starblaydia to a win there, so she should be worth a Semi-Final berth without blinking."

"So it's settled then, Valrauncion." Tororin smiled as he leaned back in his chair once more. "Either Ázëwyn wins the Cup of Harmony, or she gets the sack. What is it you say, Scott, the title of that documentary? I think it's called All or Nothing?"

"More like Shit or Bust," Valrauncion sneered.

The Starblaydia national football team factbook will tell you more about the team, their style, culture, fans, and history than I can ever write in a simple roster post. If you need more background information or just fancy browsing 17 RL/300 IC years of role-played football history, that's a fairly decent place to look. Otherwise drop me a message on Discord or, failing that, shoot a TG over.

I Give My Opponent Permission
(and actively encourage them) To:
====================
Choose my scorers
GodMod Any scoring events
RP injuries to my players
Give Red & Yellow Cards to my players (Within reason; they're not remotely a dirty side overall)
GodMod Other Events for Humorous Intent
====================

Notes:
1) Starblaydia's style modifier is +4
2) The best starting eleven are numbered 1-11 in bold, and opaque in the line-up graphic. 'Ideal' like-for-like substitutes are semi-transparent.
3) I actively encourage that if you RP first you pick my scorers (if any) and their style of goal. Really, please choose my scorers. So often I read RPs where my opponent writes "Starblaydia scored" and I find it so, so much more enjoyable when a name is picked for me.
4) * Denotes female, † denotes elf, ^ denotes dwarf.
5) Before each match, in between the national anthems and kick-off, the entire 23-man squad will perform the Raiigar, one of Starblaydia's traditional war-dances.
6) If you need a name for a player to do a specific thing in the match, some vague suggestions are at the bottom of the infobox on the right.

Five-time World, seven-time Regional, two-time Under-21, one-time Under-18 and one-time Olympic Men's Football champions - but never Cup of Harmony winners - Starblaydia will line up for only their fourth entry into the Cup of Harmony, their first since World Cup 38. The failure to qualify for World Cup 90 was a massive blow to manager Ázëwyn Fëanáro's job security, and the whole football world is aware in no uncertain terms that this is her only chance to prove herself. It might only be a documentary title, but it really is 'All or Nothing' for her now, with several club-level managers being sounded out as potential replacements.

The SFA had been whole-heartedly supporting Fëanáro's efforts this with the building of Oberyn Park, a brand new national elite training and performance centre to further harness sporting prowess in the country. It seemed to be working, as the team appeared in a World (WC 83), Regional (AOCAF 61), Under-21 (DBC 48) and two Under-18 Finals (7th & 8th U18WC) in their relatively recent, but steadily diminishing history - winning the U18 and AOCAF Cups - and everyone had thought the decision to work from the ground up was paying off until the shock non-qualification for World Cup 90.

The full makeup of the team is as follows:

Image
AF. Ázëwyn Fëanáro*†, Manager, 4,089 - Image
44th & 47th World Cup Winner, World Cup Hall of Famer, 61st AOCAF Cup Winning Manager

270 Caps, 71 Goals (Uncapped at youth level)
Fëanáro scored the winner in the 47th World Cup Final against Valanora, denying them a title on their own turf and lifting Starblaydia to the mantle of all-time greatest team. Known for her excellent attacking play, range of passing and great eye for goal that lifts her to second in the all-time goalscorers list too, by virtue of a nearly 1-in-4 ratio, Ázëwyn Fëanáro is a symbol of grace, power and beauty from Starblaydia's golden age, some forty tournaments ago when the Cup was in its 40s. It is these qualities that the SFA managed to recapture with Fëanáro at the helm, bringing her trademark poise and piercing yell to the touchlines after more than a decade of national failures. She's taken her team to the World Cup Final and AOCAF glory, but can she increase Starblaydia's lead as the team with the most major titles in the world?

AC. Aaron Cole, Coach, 60 - Image
90 Caps, 54 Goals (7 Caps, 4 Goals at youth level)
The last person before Sam Roshanak to break into the Starblaydi all-time top ten goalscorers in generations, Cole had the dubious honour of being the man to finally knock Simeone Di Bradini out of that same list. His excellent footballing brain, aggression levels, tactical nous and all-round Audioslavian/Brenecian level of shithousery made him a uniquely successful striker in a nation more used to smooth flying strikers and hulking target men. These are the qualities he brings to the national team on a much grander scale, giving them a level of needle to their play hitherto unknown for the team in white and purple, proving his style's effectiveness with a win over Audioslavia in the AOCAF Cup Final where they 'out-Bulls'd the Bulls'.

AO. Amari Ollarion*, Coach, 60 - Image
46 Caps, 0 Goals (3 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
The best female Starblaydi goalkeeper since Paola Mendez, Ollarion's management of her beloved Corinthian Spirits side set them truly on the path to success, and other than Fëanáro she's currently the most high-profile female coach in the Starblaydi game. Ollarion orginally made her name as coach for the Starblaydi Women's Olympic team and did the no mean feat of taking them to the Quarter-Finals.

Image
1. Ruby Narvaez*, GK, 34 - Iskara Daii Image
109 Caps, 0 Goals (9 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
Starblaydia's first-choice goalkeeper for four straight Cups, becoming a centurion early in Qualifying. There are a lot of fine goalkeepers coming through the system currently, but so far none have been able to seriously dislodge Narvaez from between the sticks - but this might be her last shot. Solid shot-stopper with a good command of her area, she's even been known to play quickly from feet on occasion, thought it's not her strong point.

12. Cristaldo Sarro, GK, 27 - Hippion Overdrive Image
3 Caps, 0 Goals (9 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
Relatively young and up-and-coming Overdrive 'keeper who's known for fast hands and getting down low. Hasn't had a run of games with the national team yet, but he's as dependable as ever for his club side, even if they are overall kind of average, Sarro earns them at least 10 points extra every season with his performances.

19. Alan Valderas, GK, 24 - Sporting Salicus Image
2 Caps, 0 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
Sporting's young keeper has had a decent enough start at youth international level and has now been brought into the side for his first look at the sharp end of top level football. Known for his 'battlefield voice' and constantly yelling at his defenders to raise their game, Valderas is not expected to make many, if any, appearances, but there's nothing like having a young goalie soak in the atmosphere and keep the starter on their toes.

Image
2. Andvar Galdarhim^, C/RB, 36 - Karak Ungor Chiefs Image - 61st AOCAF Cup Winner
133 Caps, 18 Goals (15 Caps, 2 Goals at youth level)
The only player in the squad who has lifted an international trophy, but even then he was and 18 year old second-choice right back. Now the Dwarven Galdarhim is a much-changed man. After resigning the captaincy for the failure to qualify for World Cup 90, he has taken on the lost tradition of the Grudge. Cultural upbringing dictates that Galdarhim will stop at nothing to set right the wrong that the felt responsible for, and it's his only remaining goal in life to see Starblaydia lift a trophy. He's a top-class defender and loves to bomb forwards, but even those thick Dwarven legs of his are starting to tire as he approaches 40. Galdarhim should still have enough in the tank to push through at top speed, though, and he's sworn to run until his legs fail underneath him before he'll even contemplate giving up.

3. Oksana Shevchenko*, LB/LW, 21 - Beverington Hawks Image
11 Caps, 1 Goal (6 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
Listed as a defender but equally comfortable at your corner flag or the opposition's, don't be fooled by her relatively short stature. She's fast, really fast, and has great skills with the ball at her feet. Low centre of gravity and a quick turn keeps opponents away from the ball, and a killer final ball is ready to unlock a defence or smash in a goal. Along with the renewed vigour of Galdarhim, this makes the most attacking pair of fullbacks in Starblaydi football history.

5. Alvari Mikkonen, CB, 30 - Hallad Reavers Image
23 Caps, 2 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
They breed them big and tough in Hallad, and Mikkonen is no exception. He's exactly the type of defender to put his body on the line to defend his goal, strong in the air and a real threat at set pieces. Keeps his place from the Qualifiers

6. Serafim Tassidis, CB, 23 - Ionia United Image
Uncapped (9 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
Tassidis is a tall and powerfully-built defender, but uncannily light on his feet with a superb reading of the game. He's got an educated left foot, too, and has more than enough ability to bring the ball out of defence, or track wide and cover the space left by an attacking full-back with ease.

13. Jamelia Soule*, RB/RM, 17 - Iskara Daii Image
7 Caps, 1 Goal (5 Caps, 1 Goal at youth level)
A dead ball specialist with one of the cleanest strikes of the ball you're likely to see, Soule is the complete modern full-back. Often deployed in midfield for the Daii even at the tender age of 17, the one question on her skills is actually at defending. Though she's often seen as a weak link and targeted by opponents, her record more than speaks for itself already.

14. Grzegorz Wójcik, CB, 19 - Hallad Reavers Image
8 Caps, 1 Goal (8 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
Coming through the ranks at the Reavers and already breaking into the first team alongside Mikkonen, the two of them provide a sheer red wall in that defence, but this belies Wójcik's touch on the ball. A combination of aggressive and composed, he looks like a monster but can be a dancer with the ball at his feet. Very young, but with a huge amount of potential.

20. Jose Antonio Marqués, L/CB, 25 - Corinthian Spirits Image
12 Caps, 0 Goals (9 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
Energy: that's the key word to describe Marqués' game, and in the forward-minded 4-3-3 where the full-backs are expected to not only defend but also provide attacking width, verve and overloads down the wings, the relatively inexperienced Spirits player has gotten the nod. The man has energy to burn sprinting up and down the left side all day, but questions still remain over his defensive ability. That'll be no problem, however, if he can maintain his assist rate at club level.

21. Leopoldo Nunes, LB/LWB, 29 - Vecchio Victors Image
7 Caps, 0 Goals (6 Caps, 0 goals at youth level)
A versatile wing-back who provides another option behind Shevchenko. When you're a left back playing for the Vics, it's always Ryan Garry - Starblaydia's first captain - that you look up to, and Nunes reflects a number of the great man's skills, but also has the speed and stamina to keep up with the modern fullback-oriented play at this level.

Image
4. Natalina Veno*, C/DM, 25 - Vecchio Victors Image
18 Caps, 2 Goals (9 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
'They shall not pass' is Veno's creed; give her a section of the pitch to patrol and protect and you're almost guaranteed to see her intercept, block and tackle her way through 90 minutes. Somewhat of a sideways passer with very few expeditions into the final third, Veno is a real water carrier of a player, doing the dirty, unheralded work so others can shine.

7. Dawn Halleck-Winter*, C/AM, 18 - Tabeck FC Image
9 Caps, 4 Goals (5 Caps, 2 Goals at youth level)
Playing with her head up and always looking to go forward, Halleck-Winter has already excelled for the Under-18 side and is now brought onto the starting eleven to show what she can really do. From late arrivals into the box to long shots from distance, or getting up to support the central strikers and be a key part of the attack, Halleck-Winter has a lot of tools in her arsenal.

8. Henry Whittaker, C/DM, 21 - Paricone Athletic FC Image
10 Caps, 2 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
An all-action combative defensive midfield destroyer in the making, Whittaker has the long limbs and engine of a player who can be a constant thorn in the opposition's attacks. Sometimes he can be a bit too aggressive or strong in the challenge, but that just makes his own fans love him more.

15. Rickard Sindelaar, R/DM, 30 - Paricone Athletic FC Image
38 Caps, 4 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
Sindelaar typifies the type of player Fëanáro has preferred in the midfield for the past decade and more: a pure athlete with the vision to play anywhere. Though perhaps not the most skilled, nor the fastest or the best on the ball, Sindelaar's reading of the game and ability to push through 90 minutes and more without dropping his level of commitment is crucial to the all-action midfield three required by this system.

16. Stefania Clarke*, RM, 22 - Iskara Daii Image
Uncapped (5 Caps, 1 Goal at youth level)
An old-fashioned right midfielder, she's fast and has a wonderful touch on the ball with crosses and set-pieces. Stronger than most give her credit for, Clarke's vision and passing skills will doubtlessly be utilised during this tournament, but she's unlucky that the system doesn't quite gel with her best abilities.

22. Nicolaos Leventatos, L/CM, 23 - Samosisos Blues Image
Uncapped (6 Caps, 0 Goals at youth level)
Leventatos is the type of left-footed, all-action, all-rounder midfielder that the coach adores across her midfield three. Comfortable playmaking, defending and going forward, he may yet find one part of the game to truly master.

Image
9. Sam Roshanak, Captain, SC/LW, 33 - Rülândéá Kôstä Image
91 Caps, 52 Goals (7 Caps, 2 Goals at youth level)
One last time for Sam Roshanak, and he's now captaining his country. Sam's come such a long way to now count himself among Starblaydia's best strikers, and this time he's got the added pressure of the armband. He's equalled Dasha Tolkacheva's tally of 52 to break into that all-time top scorer list at joint-tenth, but the next target is his older sister Hope, with 55 goals.

10. Joe Mason, CF/SC, 22 - Iskara Daii Image
Uncapped (6 Caps, 1 Goal at youth level)
Causing trouble in the box and strong as an ox, Mason provides the target-man plan B for this team, as well as being an instant draw for defenders who often can't cope with his size and power, but all that casts a deceptive shadow over just how good he is on the ball, and how much of a link-up player he is both in the air and on the floor. A winger's dream man in the middle.

11. Hassan Al Faizan, SC, 18 - Cedrus Soundgardia Image
10 Caps, 7 Goals (9 Caps, 5 Goals at youth level)
Al Faizan's potential is near limitless: incredibly fast, primarily left footed but also comfortable shooting on his right, he can play anywhere along the front three but his speed and pressing is suited perfectly to Fëanáro's pressing 4-3-3. Fireworks are expected from this kid whenever he plays.

17. Ricardo Gomes, SC, 28 - Corinthian Spirits Image
19 Caps, 8 Goals (12 Caps, 1 Goal at youth level)
Though overlooked in previous years, there's no denying Liga Starblaydia's recent top scorer this time, who has come into the form of his life at exactly the right time. Never afraid to shoot, first time or from any distance, the sheer weight of his output at club level is belied by his international statistics. Playing as one of the prongs of this particular Starblaydi trident, however, he's sure to be among the goals, whether from 3 yards out or 30.

18. Yuri Pukkinen, SC, 19 - Jhanna City Image
6 Caps, 4 Goals (10 Caps, 2 Goal at youth level)
Playing up front at JCFC, you'd expect Pukkinen to be a big, strong centre-forward type, but in fact he plays what everywhere else could be called the 'False 9' role, dropping deep to bring in the players around him, relying on movement and cleverness to create goals, rather than being the one who bangs them in. He'll offer something completely different to other strikers when he makes appearances, be it as a sub or in the matches against lesser-regarded opponents.

23. Asimodeo Fiola, SC, 26 - Tuncastle Rovers Image
5 Caps, 1 Goal (7 Caps, 4 Goals at youth level)
It's always a tough work-rate at the Rovers, and Fiola has played himself into both the shop window and the national team picture with his excellent recent season at Tuncastle. Preferring to break the offisde trap and play between the lines, he can be an absolute handful against a rigid defence, popping up all over the place in seemingly acres of space.

Play style
The 4-3-3 has become Fëanáro's go-to formation from youth teams right up to the senior side, relying on a high press throughout the team, with the majority of width and attacking verve from the two most forward-minded full-backs (2 & 3) in Starblaydi history. The three midfielders (4, 7 & 8) will look to overload and control the centre of the pitch with short, sharp passing. Whether adopting positions as wingers or strikers, the wide players (11 & 9) will be working in concert with the main striker (10) at all times, in both attack and a high pressing game as a unit. With the players who are available and suited to the formation, Fëanáro retains the double-pivot of two defensive midfielders (4 & 8) from the Qualifiers.

Weaknesses
The 4-3-3 offers great tactical flexibility, but relies on two things: instant decision making (particularly from the midfield) and the front three operating in unison. Exploiting any miscommunications from the front three to expose, isolate and play through them can key, and forcing the midfielders to make tough choices with passing by pressing them or overloading their options can make this game plan fall apart. Attacking the full backs can also work, but be careful of the double-pivot that covers this option. Other winning strategies of your choice are also available.

ediraf's Generation Five series of football kits innovated beyond all competitors. Debuted for World Cup 90 Qualifiers, Starblaydia will wear this style of kit for the second and last time, exclusively during their 300th anniversary year.

Generation Five-S charts the present, past and future of the national team in a bold new design based heavily on tradition, informed by the modern and focusing on the future. The Ice White home kit with purple and gold trim is right now. NightTerror Black with golden trim is the past away kit, while Anaia's purple and green are the future of football with the third kit. Home, Away and Goalkeeper versions proudly sport the five gold stars - representing their record-setting five World Championships at senior level - above the Starblaydi Football Association logo, while the Third kit needs no such leaning on the past as it stares straight into a bold new future. In addition, Starblaydi players will also all be wearing rainbow laces, as a symbol of diversity and inclusion.

ediraf's market-leading technology includes:

Optiyarn
Optiyarn technology increases both supporting structure and dynamic stretch ability according to the wearer's requirements, isolating body parts and muscle groups for maximum integrity of material and complete comfort of fit. Toughened against all climates that come into contact with the exterior, yet gentle and smooth on the inside, Optiyarn fits better and aligns more comfortably to a player's body than ever before.

Aerodynamix
Aerodynamix design improves airflow over the material in a natural, ergonomic pattern, because even microseconds can be the different between victory and defeat on the grandest stages of sporting endeavour. Limbs and torso move more swiftly through the air, cutting through to achieve acceleration and top speeds hitherto unknown in previous incarnations.

Transpacool Three
Transpacool Three improves and evolves on the breathability features of previous ediraf CoolClimate creations, dispersing sweat into the atmosphere faster than ever before, siphoning cooling air in with more efficiency than any kit the company has produced previously. A Generation Five kit provides a greater enabler to a player's natural talent than at any point in history whilst keeping them at the optimum performance temperature.

Gyatso-kai National Football Team
‘The Bisons’

The Gyatso-kai National Football team shall be making their fourth appearance to the Cup of Harmony to finish off the 2021.4 Campaign, with Interim Head Coach Wong Haru still at the helm under a provisional banner. Many in the Avatarian sports community want to see Wong either promoted to Head Coach, or to see another coach given a chance to bring the team multi-verse glory. While the Bisons have qualified for the World Cup Proper a total of eight times - including advancing to the Quaterfinals in World Cup 61 - the team has yet to make it out of the Qualifying stage since The Silence. Whether it is a matter of determination on the players' part or a lack of striong coaching, no one is certain. The only thing fans know is that if The Bisons are in a tournament, expect a short one.

┤ THE ROSTER ├

44- HAMADA Roshi
Height: 181cm - Weight: 90kg – Age: 25 years old - Team: Concord Dusk AFC

After signing a three year, ¥15 million contract with Concord Dusk AFC, Hamada Roshi has essentially made it as a goalkeeper in Gyatso-kai. Coming onto Concord Dusk to backup the aging Kjotvi Bar’kad is no easy assignment, however, with most analysts seeing Bar’kad retiring sooner rather than later, Hamada may see himself starting for the Black & Gold.

A player who developed an odd style in the Fire Nation, Hamada is known for stepping way in front of the net and attempting to use his physique to stop an offensive player before getting to the ball. Many attribute this odd quirk to Hamada and his twin brother Yoshi having grown up playing ice hockey; whereas Roshi would go on to find his love in football, his brother Yoshi continues to attract scouts on the ice at the University of Kyoko in the Fire Nation. Equally adept at his position as a younger Kio’los, the 2021.3 Campaign has already seen Hamada start in net twice for the Bisons; during the first victory over Ko-oren and the nil-all draw against Mertagne.

Starting World Cup XC as the backup to Armok Hikari, Hamada earned the starting position after a pair of losses which saw Armok pulled. In his first start of the campaign, Armok saved 27 shots on net and allowed zero goals against Omerica, and would go on to a 4-1-1 record for the World Cup before a stomach bug would take him out for the remainder of the tournament. After Armok retook the starting position, though, the Bisons fell flat, losing three straight matches to end the tournament on a sour note.

Perhaps it is time for the torch to be passed…

22- ARMOK Hikari
Height: 177cm - Weight: 80kg – Age: 29 years old - Team: Southern AFC

Entering into his eighth season with Southern AFC, Armok Hikari has continued to improve and grow when compared to his days back at the University of Omashu. Having taken over for Zhao Baoli since his retirement following World Cup 85, Armok has proven time and time again that he is set to be another storied goalkeeper for the Bisons.

Unlike his predecessor who favored sniping mid-range clears, Armok tends to favor the long-range kicks out to midpitch so as to clear as much action from the back end as possible. Also, Armok is a much more traditional goalkeeper when compared to the very ball-heavy play styles of the former starter for the Bisons; he firmly believes that his primary goal is to stop balls from getting to the net, and by clearing out the attacking zone quickly, it gives him a chance to set the team up more defensively as he does tend to hand over possession often, but that allows him to focus on the main job of stopping balls and not worrying about diving out of the box and going for more ‘flashy’ plays.

After a depressing World Cup performance, Armok was taken from the Starting XI and placed on backup. Winning just one match in World Cup XC, Armok would lose seven games and fall out of favor with Interim Head Coach Wong Haru.

Wonder if he’ll be able to regain that trust…

31- LEE Findao
Height: 191cm - Weight: 94kg – Age: 22 years old - Team: Academy of South Kibago

An incredibly young and underdeveloped player – at least in terms of multi-verse play – Lee Findao took the Avatarian Football world by surprise when it was announced after The Combine that they would be taking the Reserve Position on the National Team ahead of suspected replacement Pao Lishin. Such a surprise that on the day the rosters were set to be announced, Lee had already packed themselves up and was boarding a transport out of the National Sports Complex.

Not the most confident way to start your journey to the AOCAF Cup…

With a collegiate style typical of players his size – wide stance, quick to try and muscle defenders out of the ball, and making saves from deep out of the net – we can only hope that has time goes on, Lee will continue to mature under the tutelage of Nishimura on the National Team. Though, with the fall of Armok Hikari from the graces of the Starting XI, it may be that during this Cup of Harmony we see Lee earn his first multi-verse cap.

Travelling With the Team

Name Age Team Nation .
PAO Lishin 25 Mando FC Earth
TSUTSAMA Yen 22 Keldabe FC Fire
TSUNADE Ki’sae 21 Kyoshi State University Mandalorian

As had been done under Vhett, Head Coach Tay’haai has instituted a Travelling Corps so as to bring young and upcoming players along with the Bisons to show them what Multiverse Play is all about. Pao Lishin, still a bit bitter about being passed over last World Cup and now for AOCAF, is a surprise to see return on the travelling corps. Last campaign, it was reported that Pao spent most of the practice days away from the other members of the goalkeeping unit; in the weeks leading up to the AOCAF Cup, it is being reported he is talking more with Goalkeeping Coach Nishimura Kenshin.

Tsutsama Yen, is a relative newcomer to the multiverse; having a somewhat average season at UA, he came to the National Team tryouts before World Cup 87 and put up some impressive physical numbers through the Combine, and thus found his way onto the Corps. Showing great promise as a younger player, he signed on with Gaoling Union after graduation and has already begun to cement himself as a strong back-up to franchise keeper Mit Wasan’i

With the promotion of Lee Findao to Reserve, the third spot on the Corps was awarded to Tsunade Kise, a young Mandalorian keeper out of Kyoshi State. At 21-years-of-age, he is set to graduate following this campaign cycle, though it is uncertain where he will wind up. Tsunade has shown a similar style to the former Bison Aki Kio’los, and of the three members of the Travelling Corps, he is the most likely to see promotion.

Left Defenders:
16- TERCAR Shuajo
Height: 180cm - Weight: 84kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Mando FC

Tercar Shuajo, who signed a four-year contract with Mando FC after graduating from Northern University, has added 8kg to his frame in muscle, yet still retains his speed. A very quick and agile defender, Tercar uses his feet and agility to outmaneuver most other players instead of relying on sheer mass to take away a ball, a tactic he learned from pairing with Itawaku during exhibition games prior to World Cup 86.

Now into his fourth campaign as starting defender, Tercar is looking to further cement himself into the team. With both Hashimoto Isamiru and Somchai Kikwan both growing older with every passing game, soon it may be time for Tercar to take his speed and agility to the centre of the pitch. Tercar bares the distinction of being one of only two players to score a goal during the last AOCAF – the lone goal against Vilita & Turori on the opening day of the tournament.

Unfortunately for Tercar, an upper body strain took him out of World Cup XC for four games, meaning that should he play during the Cup of Harmony, he will earn his century. However, given his lackluster performances during the final three games of the World Cup, combined with his early substitution during the second Omerica game, it may be unlikely that Tercar plays this tournament.

12- PAM Kai
Height: 183cm - Weight: 86kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Senlin Timbers

Formerly the backup to the Beast of the North, Pam Kai spent five tournaments in the shadow of Itawaku, hoping to one day earn the starting spot from him or to replace him. However, at the tryout camp, it was Tercar Shuajo who shined, and received the Starting Spike from Tay’haai. Following another lackluster season in Senlin, Pam has shown himself to be a perennial backup defender; though this time, he has been kicked out of the limelight by a former classmate and teammate of his from Northern University… One has to wonder how that will play out during the tournament.

26 – Khánh KA’LOMI
Height: 190cm - Weight: 94kg – Age: 23 years old - Team: Island FC

A young Southern Watertribesman who signed a professional contract with Island FC at just 20-years-of-age, Khánh Ka’lomi is already making waves in the Avatarian sports community. With an impressive size for such a young player, many see him as the next Itawaku, and some have already started calling him “The Beast of the South”. In his first season at Island FC, Ka’lomi put up impressive numbers for a defencemen; ending his season with the highest involvement in goals by a defender with 2 goal and 7 assists to go with 6 clean sheets.

In World Cup XC, an upper body strain for Tercar Shuajo would see Ka’lomi moved into the Starting XI, and given the performance of Tercar following that strain, it seems likely that Wong has decided to trust the youthful Watertribesman to fill in and to succeed Pam Kai on the left side.

Not sure how Pam is going to take this one…

Central Defenders
5- HASHIMOTO Isamiru
Height: 178cm - Weight: 75kg – Age: 36 years old - Team: Ba Sing Se UNITED

One of the most highly-rated player for the Bison defence, Hashimoto Isamiru, or “Hashi” as he is loving called by fans, has shown himself to be a very valuable asset to the team. A strong defensive player who often falls in to a full-back position, Hashimoto has made great strides in improving his passing and marking skills since he was traded to Ba Sing Se UNITED from Keldabe FC after a very disappointing season which saw Kelabe not advance to the playoffs for the first time in five years.

However, as time as worn on, so too as age on Hashimoto. Set to turn 37 during the 2021.3 Campaign, many have been calling for Hashi to step down gracefully and retire. However, in previous interviews over the 2021.1 Campaign, Hashimoto has already said he would not even entertain retirement until he had earned his century-and-half cap for the National Team.

We are now seventeen games past that…

15- UTHAN A’den
Height: 185cm - Weight: 83kg – Age: 25 years old - Team:FC Beijing

A large and physically imposing player, Uthan A’den does not play a very physical game like Auranaq or Hashimoto, but instead proves himself to be one of the fastest players on the team; one who uses that speed to outpace and overtake many of his opponents. Less prove to tackle and trip, and more likely to simply run up from behind and steal the ball mid-dribble, expect to see Uthan engaging opponents closer to the net than you will be comfortable with from previous Bisons campaigns.

Having reached his century mark during the 6-2 win at home against The Juniper Union during World Cup 88 – and also scoring his first multiverse hat trick – Uthan became one of the youngest players to reach the milemark, following in the footsteps of Akiyama Qiangyu and Bralor Kotyc’e to reach a century before 25.

And given his presence, Uthan is expected to play for a very long time.

15- Ganham Ri’om
Height: 175cm - Weight: 70kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Concord Dusk AFC

Though not as fast as Uthan, Ganham Ri’om is a full-back more focused on the offence, who uses his skill with the ball to often drive the offence from the backfield. Though Ganham can have some minor difficulties when tasked with defence (given that he played his entire career at Hatsu State as a offensive midfielder before switching to defence when drafted), he is a very dedicated player and works hard to improve where he knows there are weakness.

Right Defenders:

3- SOMCHAI Kikwan
Height: 187cm - Weight: 83kg – Age: 34 years old - Team: Itakawai City

While certainly not the oldest player in the defence, Somchai Kikwan does serve as the counterpoint to Uthan’s youthful excitement. Having graduated from Kyoshi State, Somchai is very familiar to the style of play Uthan is used to, and the two of them communicate very well on the side of the field. Very adept at playing the middle of the field, when pushed to the right side, Somchai is quick to adapt and has the endurance and stamina to keep up with the demands.

Having made his multiverse debut in World Cup 85, Somchai has continued to play through a nagging lower body injury up until World Cup 90; utlising traditional medicine as well as playing an on-off schedule which allowed Huang Aodhan and Taoru Adeen to gather more experience, Somchai is expected to play the entirety of Cup of Harmony 82.

23- HUANG Aodhán
Height: 183cm - Weight: 84kg – Age: 28 years old - Team: Makapu ERUPT

With Mi’rez Yiman retiring, Huang Aodhán would find himself moving up on the list of right defenders. Signed onto a Taap-A team right out of college, Huang was quick to mature and found his way onto the Makapu ERUPT three season ago. A quick study, he adapted well to his new team and soon made it to their starting eleven. Huang is a natural athlete, with impressive speed and stamina to match, and we can expect to see that natural athleticism on display as the tournament wears on and fatigue sets into the Starting Eleven.

Height: 189cm - Weight: 90kg – Age: 24 years old - Team: Royal Flames

With the retirement of a couple of the Bisons’ core defenders, the Travelling Corps has produced another potential feature player in the form of Tarou Adeen. A product of both the Royal Fire Developmental Programs as well as serving under the tutelage of Fujimoto Zhong at Omashu State, Adeen is sure to see his number called in future tournaments, especially as players like Somchai continue to add years to their career. Though, unlike Somchai, Adeen brings more size to the right; standing at just under 190cm and weighs a little under 90kg. Combine that size with his speed and vision on the pitch, and you have a defender who can knock an opponent off course and redirect a ball to a forward without even lifting his head from his target. As with others in the lower levels of the team, expect to see Adeen as the tournament progresses.

RD KATO Zhao Ling 23 Enceri FC Mandalorian
RD YAMADA Goro 22 Ba Sing Se UNITED Fire
CD ZHOU Hiroto 22 Concord Dusk AFC Earth

The Travelling Corps for Defense is all small trio of defenders who are all potential future Bisons.

Kato Zhao Ling, who graduated from Enceri University and signed an entry-level two-year contract with FC She Pass, is coming off his first RPFL All-Star selection and a third-place finish in the 2021.1 Season, having been traded to Enceri FC before the end of his contract and signing on an entry-level single-year bridge pending the conclusion of the 2021.3 Season. Yamato Goro surprised the football world upon graduation, having signed with Ba Sing Se over Itakawai; Yamato is certainly being watched to replace either of the aging defencemen in Hashimoto and Somchai. Zhou Hiroto, who helped Kibago University win their third consecutive Earthen Shield tournament in five years, also is vying for an eventual spot on the national roster after signing an entry-level two-year contract with Concord Dusk AFC.

Defensive Midfielders:

7- TAKAHASHI Hikaru
Height: 178cm - Weight: 76kg – Age: 37 years old - Team: Northern AFC

A strong defensive midfielder. Takahashi Hikaru’s strength lies in his kicks; easily able to send a ball soaring across the pitch with surprising accuracy, Takahashi is known for feeding the ball to the strikers and catching many opposing defences off-guard. He often has great vision, and he is easily able to read the play and can adapt accordingly.

Now, Takahashi has to step into a new role, as the oldest player on the team. With the retirement of so many of his fellow over-30 players, some feel the pressure is on Takahashi to produce more in this upcoming World Cup Campaign… or hang up the Number Seven jersey for the last time.

6- MA Haijiang
Height: 187cm - Weight: 85kg – Age: 34 years old - Team: Northern AFC

Former Head Coach Tay’haai made the unusual selection of having both of his defensive midfielders come from the same team, for reasons most can ascertain…. And it’s a decision that Interim Head Coach Wong Haru A proven veteran on the pitch, Ma Haijiang complements Takahashi’s strong kicks and accuracy with the speed to overcome most opponents; if he can not strike a ball deep, Takahashi will often send a volley up to Ma who will then run it into the offensive zone before lasering the ball to an open forward. Expect to see either Ma or Takahashi in the assist column for plenty of goals.

Though, now with both players into their 30s, and many calling for younger blood to take the reigns, one has to wonder how much longer the ‘Northern Duo’ will continue to play together… or worse, who will be the first to retire…

17- YOSHIDA Arata
Height: 177cm - Weight: 80kg – Age: 31 years old - Team: Royal Flames

Yoshida Arata is a dedicated player who has worked incredibly hard to make his way to the national team; having spent several months training with one of the greatest Avatarian midfielders to ever play the game, Bralor Kotyc’e. Time spent with Bralor has proven to greatly improve his game, seeing Yoshida climb up the ranks during the Trials for the national team. Though he has predominantly been a backup for his entire career thirteen tournaments, Arata has managed to amass ninety-two caps, and given the length of the Cup of Harmony, expected to reach the century during it. The inly question will be whether he reaches that mark as a substitution or as a starter.

Though, Yoshida is not a player you will often notice. He is not one for showboating, and very rarely makes a goal or garnishes an assist. Instead, he focuses his time on the pitch by setting up the offense for a great pass, a decisive tackle that often swings the game’s momentum, or just being able to intercept the ball at the most opportune time. One of the best midfielders in the Southern Conference of the RPFL, Yoshida is sure to see time on the pitch by relieving Takahashi or Ma in the later games of the competition.

Neutral Midfielders:

18- HISAKAWA Si Woo
Height: 183cm - Weight: 84kg – Age: 34 years old - Team: Senlin Timbers

An extremely technical midfielder, Hisakawa Si Woo is not one to shy away from trying for goals. More adept at reading the play and setting up his forwards, Hisakawa is a bit more impatient than one would like, and he posseses the speed and agility to run through a good defence and find the back of the net on occasion. He is also the only player on the Bisons who is currently unsigned; his contract with the Taap-A team Omashu Athletic ended after AOCAF LX, and with nothing really to showcase his worth, Omashu Athletic chose to not sign Hisakawa; a fact that has certainly hurt his morale going into the last World Cup. However, an impressive showing, including four goals at WC 85, saw Hisakawa sign a two-year contract with the Senlin Timbers just days after the completion of the group stage.

Attacking Midfielders:

8- YU Shichiro
Height: 183cm - Weight: 85kg – Age: 29 years old - Team: Keldabe FC

With a very offensive-minded footballing style, Yu Shichiro works as the last link between the midfield and the offence. Much like Hisakawa, Yu has been known to even advance from the midfield to score quite a few key goals in pivotal games, including the 2019.2 Ve’vut Cup winning goal against Concord Dusk AFC. He has a powerful long shot and is exceptional at heading, both of which are aided by his height. However, as skilled as he is in offense, Yu still prefers to pass the ball up to forwards for an assist in a goal as opposed to being the star player.

11- GUANYU Jun
Height: 185cm - Weight: 81kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Omashu Athletic (Taap-A)
A very creative midfielder, Guanyu Jun is very capable of making plays on the fly; with great vision and quick feet, he often can set up his forwards for a great goal or keep the ball moving through the middle. Though having graduated from Heibai University right after AOCAF, Guanyu, who managed to only appear in a single game during AOCAF, started in the next two World Cups as well as AOCAF 60, before being knocked off his starting position by Yu Shichiro coming into AOCAF 61. Who knows how that will play out, seeing as how many in the sports world see Guanyu as more of a playmaker than Yu and a bit more skilled despite being three years his junior.

14 – Fei’kao SONG
Height: 185cm - Weight: 81kg – Age: 26 years old - Team: FC Mando

Relatively young when compared to his teammates, Fei’kao Song chose to forgo his collegiate career, getting drafted by FC Mando the day before his twentieth birthday. Despite all the fanfare of his first season behind him, Song has not had a promising start to his sophomore season. Given his still-developing skills in midfield, his is seen as a comparatively weak player and often spends more time with the coaching staff than other more-seasoned players. Song, much like Hisakawa, is a technical player by nature whose greatest asset is not in his aim or power, but in the art of dribbling which he uses at every opportunity. While more prone to provide assists on plays as opposed to goals, Song has proven himself through Trials to Tay’haai and earned a spot on the National Team, albeit a reserve position.

NM Penlu SAITO 22 Omashu Fire
OM SHAO Mi’ka 24 Solus FC Water

Mostly comprised of Water Tribesmen, the Midfield Travelling Corps is a grabbag of talent. From the University of the Northern Tribes come home-grown Inoue Anernerk, who at just like his father, the famed Inoue Kuruk, completed back-to-back double-digit scoring seasons in his last two seasons of college; impressive for a man who is supposed to be on the defensive midfield. From UST, Kal Itowa mirrors the success of Inoue, though a career less filled with goals and more with assists. Penlu Saito, a young player from the developmental Chomain State Academy, hopes to see a professional contract within the year, and with such a great season in the ADFL, you can be sure he will at least entertain some good offers. Out of the University of Kibago, Shao Mi’ka is a relatively quiet player who has had offers from both Gaoling Union and Senlin Timbers. Dik Up’lis rounds out the Travelling Corps, bringing from Omashu State a drive for excellence many teams would love to have, even if it comes with a bit more maturing to be fostered.

9 - Dag’da SKIRATA
Height: 185cm - Weight: 85kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Ba Sing Se UNITED

From the fabled and illustrious Skirata family, Dag’da Skirata continues to show why the Skirata’s are the most famous Avatarian family in sports; from his grandfather Kad coaching the Men’s National Ice Hockey Team to his father A’den’s 59 goals in 190 caps for the Bisons, Dag’da has some massive shoes to fill. Though his youthful energy often times shows itself in classic mistakes, Skirata is able to power his way through many the defender and be it by foot or by head, he finds the net more often than not. Earning his century in the abysmal Cup of Harmony 79, Skirata hopes to redeem himself in the next campaign set to begin in Atlantian Oceania. In-between the 2021.1 and 2021.2 Campaigns, Skirata has shocked much of the Avatarian Sports world, forgoing the expected signing with his hometown FC Itakawai and signing with their interleague rival Ba Sing Se United for an undisclosed amount; however, the six-year contract is likely one of the most expensive to be signed in recent memory.

Skirata managed to score his one-hundreth goal in World Cup 90; the go-ahead and eventual winning goal against Damukuni on matchday ten. Four more goals throughout the tournament showed that he has put the dryspell of World Cup 89 behind him, and he is looking to increase those numbers in the Cup of Harmony.

10 - SONG Kaoru
Height: 178cm - Weight: 74kg – Age: 29 years old - Team: FC Mando

Much like Skirata, Song Kaoru comes from a sports-centric family; with his father a coach in the RPFL, his mother a third-line winger for the Ice Bisons and his younger brother the star goalkeeper for Itakawai City, fans and critics have come to expect nothing but greatness from Song. They have certainly not been disappointed in domestic play, with Song showing a near-effortless game on the pitch. Dodging defenders as if they were standing still, sniping balls past nets which might as well have been empty, Song has quickly become the media’s favorite player... especially with how he loves to be interviewed.

Older than both of the starting forwards, Li Yuuta also finds himself the oldest member of the Forward Corps. Playing the last six seasons in Island FC, Li has continued to develop as a well-rounded secondary striker; able to shield the ball from the other team and hold them off long enough for either of the Bisons’ primary stikers to get into position for a great shot. Li is very adept at striking himself, having led Island FC in Goals Scored last season.

A seasoned pivot man through five seasons at Island FC, Kim Vinh Lành is known for his ability to read the pitch and place himself ahead of a ball to bring in an attempt --- even if the pass is terrible --- through his excellent ball-handling skills. Albeit not the most conditioned player, with stamina that often finds him at the back of the pack during running exercises, Kim makes up for his endurance with incredibly fast bursts to the goal.

┤ COACHING STAFF ├

Head Coach: .:: VACANT ::.

Following the completion of the 2021.1 Campaign and World Cup 88, the initial contract for Head Coach Kad’e Tay’haai had reached its conclusion. In no surprise to anyone in the Avatarian Football Community, Director of the National Sports Council and President of the Avatarian Leagues of Association Football Vhett Boba accepted the completion of the contract and formally dismissed Tay’haai after twelve tournaments. The first Head Coach after The Silence, many had expected Tay’haai to bring glory back to the Bisons on the multiverse stage; instead, the National Team held a 36.08% Winning Record, including multiple losing streaks of three games or more, including the winless 79th Cup of Harmony and the single-win AOCAF 63.

Not exactly how the former star player for the Bisons Pre-Silence and collegiate coach wanted his national coaching career to transpire, and certainly not how he envisioned it ending… a 3-1 loss at home after winning just six games out of eighteen.

However, in the past campaign, the Bisons saw quite the improvement – going from a 6-8-4 group finish in World Cup LXXXIX to an astounding top-of-the-group finish with 3-0-1 before making it to the Quarterfinals where they would lose on penalties against Demot – and for some, that may be all the sign they need to push Wong into the Head Coach position. However, given the lackluster performance of World Cup XC, it seems that Wong may not yet be printing new business cards.

Interim Head Coach: WONG Haru
Height: 185cm – Weight: 88kg – Age 51 years old – Team: FC Itakawai, Assistant General Manager

Once a star defender for the Bisons, following his retirement from national and multiverse play, Wong Haru made a name for himself with a brief stint in coaching professionally; first as a Defensive Coach for Solus FC for two years and then FC She Pass for another four. However, when Wakahisa Hikaru – whose infamous knee injury in the championship game for the Republic Chalice brought the nation to tears and ended his professional career – called Wong, as the General Manager for FC Itakawai, to hand him the reigns of the infamous team right when they shifted ownership, it was a call Wong could not pass up. Being the head coach of one of the RPFL’s best teams for nearly 8 years truly honed his knowledge of the game as well as his abilities to analyze and coach players to greatness, all before he was promoted within to the role of Assistant General Manager under Wakahisa. After being both a player, a captain, positional coach, head coach, and assistant general manager, the only two roles left for Wong were to be either the National Team Head Coach, and the President of the ALAF. Thanks to Tay’haai - who brought Wong on as the assistant coach for the team back at the start of his tenure - one goal was soon to be achieevd. Though for now, the title of "Interim" hangs over Wong, and it is up to him to guide the lost ship back on course until a more permanent coach can be chosen... or he can earn the title himself.

Following the retirement of Wen Wuchin after the 85th World Cup, the much-younger Doctor Fong Jintao replaced the “Ol’Doc” as he was so lovingly referred to as by the team. Having served through the Grand Army of the Republic, Doctor Fong is a veritable successor to the Ol’Doc’s history as the last member of the Old Guard – all staff appointed by former-Head Coach and now Director Boba Vhett. When not travelling with the team, Fong carries the rank of Captain, First Class and serves in the 501st Legion in the First Territorial Army, stationed in Republic City; specifically, he is a resident Surgeon within the Third Avatarian Guard, and is seen as a competitor for the soon-to-be-vacated position of Head Assistant Surgeon in the Capital Medical Facility, thanks to another former member of the Old Guard retiring from that post.

A clone officer within the Grand Army of the Republic, RC-4868 was appointed Chief of Security for the National Team in 2011.1. Each time the team travels abroad --- so long as he is not engaged in a mission --- RC-4868 is pulled from service and placed into the spotlight of security. He is battle-hardened, having been raised since birth for war and combat, and as such often views these assignments with true boredom. The seven men he brings with him on assignment share the same sentiments of the ‘mission’, however, their ‘unwaivering loyalty’ to the Republic prevents any negative speak during the assignment. Each is a member of the Avatarian Guard, whose sole responsibility is to defend the Avatar at both home and abroad; this protection then extends to all sports teams travelling beyond the borders of the Five Nations.

Once the longest serving Head Coach in Avatarian History – with a record spanning 261 games, ten World Cups and multiple other multiverse competitions – it was only right for Vhett to step into the role of President of the Avatarian Leagues of Association Football. Having brought a team from nothing to the quarterfinals in 8 World Cups is not something to look away from, and although his career was tarnished slightly by the final performances of the Bisons – going 5-7-1 in his last World Cup – Vhett is confident that soon glory will be returned to the Avatarian Republics, although initial performances in all seven tournaments to date have been far from promising.

┤ PRIMARY FORMATION ├

Image

While under Tay’haai and Vhett, the Bisons utilized the modern standard of the 4-4-2 Formation. Giving the Bisons a strong midfield presence while pairing two quick strikers – in the last cup being Skirata and Song Kaoru – the 4-4-2 allowed many of the Bison games to keep low goals for an opponent while giving them a chance to rack up high goals.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t always the case…

Under Interim Coach Wong Haru, the Bisons are changing up their usual style and taking out the second forward and replacing them with a stronger midfield presence in what is known as a 4-5-1 Formation. Usually taken by teams wanting to secure a lead, the 4-5-1 is often seen as a more ‘defensive minded’ formation. The extra midfielder – in this case Hisakawa Si Woo – often will float between a defensive position and a support position for the remaining forward. In choosing the speed of Skirata over the accuracy of Song Kaoru, Interim Coach Wong is giving up offensive capability to shore up defence. Especially considering that Song was the lead goal-scorer in the last World Cup, the focus on a slightly-younger Skirata may be a look to the future and keep Song on standby should the offence need a boost.

Expect to see the two men swapped out from game to game until the team solidifies. Of course, in a tournament with just four games, the team may not be able to completely figure out its new strategy in quick-enough fashion.

Unfortunately, the first foray of the new formation did not go according to plan, with the Bisons scoring a lone goal, and conceding five in three games. Of course, it takes time for a new formation and new coaching strategies to take effect, so the National Sports Council continues to out its faith in this new experiment, and behind Wong.

TEAM

STAFF
Coach: Dmitri Lijushkin
Age: 47 // Coach since: WCQ 90 MD10
Lijushkin was something of a young hotshot at Torpedo and SVV before disappearing from the public eye as a season marred with injury, internal strife, and terrible luck at SVV resulted in Virkaja’s relegation as the league got reduced from 20 to 18 teams. Following this time, he has worked as an assistant in the team of Rjurik Smolderhove at Lok Jarnstad, where he won an SFS title, and as general manager at AFK Savojagrad. Now returning to active coaching following the terrible record of Gylfi Haukason, Lijushkin is bringing new offensive wind to the squad, as well as a larger team and what many consider to be more professional structures.

Coaching Team: Ljubov Misarin, Roman Antonov, Valtteri Andersson, Mikael Södergren, Lasse Tjoer
Ages: 44, 49, 55, 43, 46 // Special functions: Defence and mental coaching, scouting and preparation, goalkeeper coach, technical coach, physical trainer

Misarin is a sort of all-purpose assistant for Lijushkin, but most notably, she is a former defender to complement the former winger and offence specialist Lijushkin and will focus on giving some input to this team. As she has played before the professionalisation of women’s football, she has studied sports psychology alongside her career, and will also serve as an important element to ensure cohesion and morale within the team.
Roman Antonov was Lijushkin’s second in command and chief scout at AFK Savojagrad. While he will stay on at AFK as a consulting scout, his main role will be to assist Lijushkin in scouting and selection; during matches, he is expected to primarily work in the background and help preparing for opposition, as well as assist with video analysis (although this is already a strong area of Lijushkin himself).
Andersson was a long-term goalkeeper for Energie Thorsborg and got directly transferred into the club's youth department when he retired at age 33. Following some good work with the club's youth department, he got trained as a GK coach and worked with the first team and the U21 of Energie for a while before being brought onto the squad of the NT early on. He still works with Energie on the side and is reputed to be very good at developing a goalkeeper's weaknesses.
Mikael Södergren has a history of a technical assistant coach at various SFS A teams, including the surprising Rotor Värstjö side of SFS Season 8 and being on the staff of the double-winning Partisan side of SFS Season 10. His job is to run day to day practice and give technical advice to players; besides his work with the national team, he currently is a trainer at the National Football Academy at Högvald, where he coaches and develops Savojarna’s biggest youth talents.
Lasse Tjoer is the physical coach and condition trainer, and has previously worked for multiple SFS A teams. He places a lot of emphasis on discipline, but gives the players a large amount of freedom to tune their practice regime to their own tastes as long as they stick to the targets. He is quite popular in the team, and a good motivator.

Doctor: Dr. Christer Ljungberg
Age: 60
Christer is the head of the medical team of the Savojar NT and generally has a reputation of being the team’s good soul. Many players have come to him over the years to discuss their insecurities or physical problems, to the point that many consider Ljungberg to essentially be a second mental coach.

SQUAD

TEAM

Goalkeepers

1	GK	Aleksandra Virulainen	Partisan Sjoedrhavn	F	29
12 GK Sergey Sharin FK Torpedo Pawlograd M 26
20 GK Olga Valujev CASK Thorsborg F 21

Following Iiro Pakanen’s retirement from the national team in the wake of the terrible WCQ90 campaign, Aleksandra Virulainen will take the helm between the posts. She is an SFS A veteran who has won titles with Partisan, and shines through her space control and spatial awareness. On the downside, she is relatively short, putting her at a disadvantage on the line. Behind her, Sergey Sharin has been a long-term third string goalkeeper at the Northlights and has been promoted to second, a spectacular and somewhat form-dependent player with strong physical attributes, especially an uncanny jumping ability. Olga Valujev, the 21 year old CASK goalkeeper in charge of the youth national team, is brought on to collect international experience and is unlikely to see play.

Defence

2	LB	Ansgar Klaey CASK Thorsborg M	24
5 LB/RB Milla Viipuri AFC Corvistone (NPH) F 26
3 CB Polina Zirkova Ulsa (EUR) F 30
4 CB Vidkun Nymark Dynamo Sjoedrhavn M 26
19 CB Sven Vikarby Partisan Sjoedrhavn M 22
22 CB Dmitri Dmitriev Admiral Storevik M 27
15 RB Alvin Strid Libertas Bergheim M 22

On the left side, Ansgar Klaey and Milla Viipuri are similar types of players, both of them being well-balanced, somewhat conservative fullbacks who will have the ability to drive forward, but usually wait with doing so until an attack is solidly established. Both are also enduring players that can keep up with the pace of an international game for 90 minutes; Viipuri has the ability to play on both sides, adding a lot of versatility to the squad. Polina Zirkova is the undisputed organiser of the central backs, with good skills with the ball on her feet and good eyes to spot buildup opportunities. She will likely be complimented by either the tall, strong header Dmitriev or the more defensive and calm Vidkun Nymark, depending on the needs of the game. All three are veterans of the game and solid options to secure the back for Savojarna; the fourth man in the team, Sven Vikarby, is a younger option that stands out through his uncompromising attitude and skill to deliver accurate tackles.Viipuri is likely to see significant playtime on the right side against more offensive teams, whereas Alvin Strid is the only true wingback in the squad. The 22 year old is fast and technically adept, having played as a right midfielder in a 3-4-3 early in his career, and has a well-developed cross; however, he is prone to getting caught out when faced with fast, counter-attacking opposition.

Central midfield

6	DM	Markko Niskanen Newrook City (NPH)	M	26
16 DM Adrian Klaebo Lokomotive Jarnstad M 25
8 CM Vladimir Orakhin Goodfeather FC (NPH) M 22
18 CM Lovisa Tedenby Galatica (PAS) F 26
10 OM Ola-Mikko Virttu Savojars Vinge Virkaja M 22
14 OM Rika Lundell North Laithland (NPH) F 29

Lijushkin typically plays a staggered centre midfield of a deep-lying midfielder, a central shuttler, and a classic 10. In the former position, there is a paradigm choice between Markko Niskanen, a destructive holding midfielder honed in the Zenith that provides stability and structure, and the creative genius Adrian Klaebo. Klaebo, the centrepiece of Lok Jarnstad, is a deep playmaker who has great positional play and spreads balls wide to his offence. He is expected to start against teams where Savojarna have to create play, whereas Niskanen is a more likely starter against strong, offensive opponents that require extra defence. The shuttling role is shared between Lovisa Tedenby of Galatica, a somewhat limited player that makes up with tremendous work ethic and great morale, and the young shooting star Vladimir Orakhin. Orakhin transferred from Torpedo to Nephara in the last off-season, and forms a restless point of action, driving play forward relentlessly and working a lot to support his offensive front three at Torpedo. The playmaker role was traditionally a strong point of Savojarna with the duality of Poulsen and Lundell, but with the former being out with a muscular injury, Rika Lundell will be the leading part here. She is a classic ten, technically skilled but physically limited and somewhat short, with a brilliant creative eye and the technique to pose a danger from range. Alongside her, 22 year old Ola-Mikko Virttu has gotten a call, but is unlikely to start. He is a drifting player who likes to make surprising runs and look for a deadly through ball or a shot on goal himself, and provides more unpredictability.

Wingers and Forwards

17	LM	Finn Östberg Lokomotive Jarnstad	M	26
23 LF Kimi Hartikainen CASK Thorsborg M 25
7 RM Mikhail Jashkin Directus (EUR) M 31
21 RM Kaisa Gyldenström AFC Corvistone (NPH) F 24
9 ST Lars Alvesen Partisan Sjoedrhavn M 20
11 ST Sven Ehlers Falourr (EUR) M 25
13 ST Victor Hedenberg Ibini FC (VAL) M 24

Krister Voynov has retired from the National Team in shame, ending an era. However, it didn’t seem to have hurt Savojarna too much, as they took home five victories in the three games started by Hartikainen and the two with Östberg in the position. Kimi Hartikainen is a more offensive option, driving to the goal more, and the expected starter in a three-man offence. If Lijushkin opts for a 4-4-2, Östberg is more likely to begin with his two-way approach to the game and better crossing ability, but limited offensive danger on his own. The right side remains the domain of Mikhail Jashkin, who has further established himself as a brilliant winger, accurate passer and crosser, and extremely conscientious player who will put himself at the team’s service at any time. Kaisa Gyldenström can be a strong backup with her speed and technique, and is expected to be used situationally to provide more direct threats from the side.
Up front, keeping his options for the 4-4-2 he used against St Trinians open, Lijushkin nominated three players despite his association with single-striker formations. Sven Ehlers has grown into a star player of this side and is the likely starter, a smart player who will try to create danger from between the lines as a hanging striker. Ehlers is rather short but quick, mobile, and a good linker as well as a good finisher. Besides him, Lars Alvesen is the future option, only 20 years old and a physical poacher that has established himself at Partisan. The third option this time is Victor Hedenberg, a sly striker with SFS A experience who has transferred to Valanora’s Ibini FC in the off-season. He is less of a goal scorer and more of a player that tends to bring in his partner, winger, or offensive midfielder by playing balls backwards or sideways when there is an option. He also has a good sense of pressing and is likely to play defensive roles as well. Hedenberg is most likely to come on either for his impressive height or as a supporting striker in a 4-4-2.

STARTING XI:

TACTICS

Lijushkin is a coach that is associated with fluid, attacking play resting on a solid defensive base. He encourages players to go forward when it is safe to do so, but not with reckless abandon. The offensive players are frequently rotating positions or looking for quick combinations. While he prefers a 4-3-3 as his base formation, he is known for frequently re-interpreting his formation and sometimes surprising an opponent with a quick change. Signs of this could be seen in the WCQ campaign when he opted for a 4-4-2 for one of his games to combine Ehlers and Alvesen, and has also experimented with double pivots towards the end of winning games. Overall, Savojarna can be expected to promote speed more than they did in the past, and allow for good team play and technical skill more than the physical approach the side had in some past iterations. A lot of tactics will be adapted to the opposition, as befits Lijushkin's past as an analyst at Lok Jarnstad.

GOALKEEPERS

NAME AGE CLUB
Joel Latibeaudiere (25 Y/O) Dursten Easterners, Image
Lance Logan (19 Y/O) 1830 Cathair, Image
Mohammad Mandrea (31 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image

Latibeaudiere, credited for his sharp reflexes and precision is going to remain the first choice goalkeeper of the team and is predicted to start in most of the matches. However Lance Logan is the player who is going to be the player to watch this year. Logan had an impressive performance in the U-18 World Cup, helping his team reach the Quarter Finals. He has been frequently compared to Joel and Joel's position in the team is not going to remain permanent like earlier. Logan saw a surprising move to Audioslavian club, 1830 Cathair which is perhaps the biggest transfer in the history of Brook football. Soham Misra is going to rotate the goalkeepers quite often throughout the qualifying stage. Apart from Joel and Lance, experienced Mohammad Mandrea is also going to remain in the team. Mandrea still continues to perform t Mandrea will not disappoint the team if he is brought into the field at any point of time.

DEFENDERS

NAME AGE CLUB
Nate Harlow (28 Y/O) Dreamland City, Image
Geovani Angeles (20 Y/O) Urrhed FC, Image
Kearyn Caceres (22 Y/O) Steinaux, Image
Adrian Gigore (31 Y/O) AC Dason, Image
Jayden Alonso (23 Y/O) Strange City, Image
Rasihawn Donaldson (26 Y/O) Regiis Dreamland, Image
Rakesh Dutta (28 Y/O) Halebid Warriors, Image
Travor Scott (30 Y/O) Halebid Warriors, Image

The defense is where majority of changes have been made by Misra. The defense now comprises of two new faces in the starting lineup. Caceres is a typical full-back and can play both on the left and right sides. He is quite the safe full-back, who never makes a mistake in defensive positioning. He made a recent departure to Steainaux of Graintfjall in hopes of gaining more experience. Caceres had played really well in the Twin Premier League and that is what caught the attention of manager Soham Misra's attention. Caceres is going to be an experimental starter throughout the qualifiers and his performance in the qualifiers is going to decide his future. The second new comer in the team is young Geovani Angeles who had completed a transfer to Chromatik Urrhed FC. Geovani is young defender who recently won the Twin Premier League with Dreamland City. He has been a very important part in Dreamland's defense and has a bright future ahead of him. Angeles plays a crucial role in the defense and builds the opportunities from the defense. Soham plans of making him play most of the matches to test out his abilities. Apart from the newcomers, there remains the likes of Nate Harlow, the most capped Brook defender. Harlow's specialty is to understand his team no matter which player plays and that makes him the first pick in the team. He evenly makes contributions to the midfield and adapts to his team mates' style on the field very quickly. Adrian Gigore is going to be a starting option at the right back. Gigore is very energetic on the field and the best tackler on the team.
However, Misra would not be playing the starting team at every match as he wants his players to get adequate rest and thus the backup options in the team would be Jayden Alonso, a very fast and energetic player, Alonso focuses on assisting and scoring goals. Tough Rasihawn Donaldson is also going to be there in the team. He has been a good substitute in the team for a long time and his ability to quickly adapt to the field whenever he is brought in is going to be really beneficial for Misra to try out his new team and strategies. Travor Scott who was the initial starter of the team didnt have a good season with Halebid and eventually saw his team getting relegated. Travor however will be in the bench, ready to step into the field and help his fellow teammates.

MIDFIELDERS

NAME AGE CLUB
Jean Jacks (26 Y/O) Swisston City FC,Image
Jean Pierre Polnareff (27 Y/O) Ancarea FC , Image
Laron Veum (26 Y/O) Athletic , Image
Alexis de la Vega (28 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image
Steve Dolphin (26 Y/O) AFC Richmond, Image
Vincent Mignolet (29 Y/O) Ribar PRD, Image
Andre Vandendriessche (21 Y/O) Halebid Warriors, Image
Andreas Roles (31 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image

If you want to have a particularly strong team with a good defense and a good attacking lineup, it would be necessary to strengthen the link between them which is the midfield. The midfield is perhaps the strongest point of the Brookstation national team. Starting with Jacks in the left to Veum in the right, the midfield has seen a number of changes this time. Jacks have been performing impressively and has improved a lot playing under Misra over the course of the past few years. Jean Pierre Polnareff is back in the squad, missing out on the last world cup due to an injury. Polnareff was always a great midfielder and in fact it would be safe to say that our win against Nephara came more or less thanks to him. Polnareff would be Brookstation's first choice free kick taker. Finally there would be Veum in the right, will allow him to open attacks from the right. Veum's chemistry with Jacks and Polnareff has been impressive which makes it easier for the team to coordinate better. Veum is a promising midfielder .Veum tends to come deeper and get open inside the hole between the opposition lines which has helped the team to get goals earlier and hopefully will this time also. Alexis de la Vega will also be a regular starter who will be ready to come to the field at any point of the match when required. de la Vega has a lot of experience and he is going to be prepared to come out on the field. Vincent Mignolet is a new inclusion to the team seeing that he performed well in his club in Zeta Reka. Mignolet performs his role well and he exploits wide angles for chance creation. He does this primarily with through balls, where successful ones are important in determining the outcome of a counter-attack.

FORWARDS

NAME AGE CLUB
Leon Michael Robes(c) (28 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image
John J Johnson (25 Y/O) Space Coast Rockets, Image
Alexander Cust(vc) (35 Y/O) Halebid Warriors, Image
Dwayne Onfroy (30 Y/O) Dreamland City, Image
Moussa Wague (23 Y/O) Regiis Dreamland, Image
Bruce Hoogewarf (18 Y/O) Coolville United FC, Image

There hasn't been any change in the attack as of yet. The attack is going to led by captain Leon Michael Robes as usual. Currently one of the best strikers' in the TPL, scored 30 goals last season and he is by far the most successful captain of Brookstation ever leading Brookstation to their first football trophy. He is a dangerous striker and has a beautiful style of play. Once he gets the ball to his feet, he rarely misses the chance to score. His assistant wingmen would be John J Johnson and Alexander Cust. John has a swift style of play and his long passes help setting up his fellow strikers. He is also a fast and agile winger who can overcome defenders with his speed. Cust is the oldest player in the team but he still remains the team's best dribbler. He is going to be the starting option but Misra will be swapping the strikers quite frequently. Onfroy is the player whom the fans want on the field due to the wide range of tricks he possesses and more importantly due to his ability to pull them off confidently. Wague has been Regiis Dreamland's breakout star this season. He was the top scorer of the Brook Football League and helped his team to get back in the Twin Premier League again. Wague has a good ability of crossing in the forward. And finally there is Hoogewarf, the captain of the U-18 national team who helped them reach the Quarter Finals of the U-18 World Cup. This tournament will be his opportunity to bring out his skills in front of the crowd and prove himself a worthy striker.

The Federation of Mertagnian Football Presents...
Image
The Mertagnian National Football Team
for the Cup of Harmony 82

Our History:

It's not a great time to be a Mertagnian football fan. After an initial burst of success in the qualifiers of World Cup 89, it's been a bitter battle to hang on to relevance for the so called 'Green Goblins'. Media outlets in Mertagne claim that the team has become too locked-in, and has failed to innovate in the same way that their Anaian counterparts have over the last few years. Enter Kristie Ettrick, who tried to work with the team she had and shook them up to the point that they did even worse in the qualifiers for World Cup 90, leading people to question if Mertagne's previous performance was more of a fluke than an indication of skill.

This tournament, possession of the team-sheet has been fully wrangled away from the critical eyes of those at the FMF, allowing Ettrick to make the critical cuts she wanted to half a cycle ago. This new-age Mertagnian team contains hallmarks of Ettrick's U21 squad that clinched a 3rd place finish at a Di Bradini Cup, but also mixes in some of the stronger players from the regular Mertagne squad.

The nation's football fans are passionate but cynical - they want to win, but act like it was inevitable when they lose. Many Mertagnians will be travelling to Montaña Verde and the Licentian Isles to support the national team.

Our Key(lime) Staff:

"Manager": Tyrrel Gulliver, 59, Image Kind, Reliable, Pudgy, Gladiator
Tyrell Gulliver is manager of the Mertagnian team in name only. In the short gap between the World Cup Qualifiers and the Cup of Harmony, he's been deep down in the bowels of Anaia Tower giving his assistant, Kristie Ettrick, some much-needed support after it was shaken during Mertagne's poor performance in the first half of the World Cup Qualifiers. While the appearance to the FMF and to the wider world is that he's calling the shots, his management clipboard is currently being inked with Kristie Ettrick's pen. His resignation (or worse, firing) would prompt the FMF to look for a new national team manager, and while Ettrick wants that job, in the current office climate at the FMF, she's not sure she'd get it. As a favour to his friend, Gulliver is therefore continuing to manage the team, by way of waving his hands up in the air at the sidelines of the pitch every game.

Assistant Manager: Kristie Ettrick, 40, Image Aggressive, Intense, Compact, Dissenter
The now 40 year old Kristie Ettrick has let the World Cup 90 qualifiers embitter her, a little. Of course, she's somewhat of a machine that runs on anger and bitterness, so all that's done is given her a spike of energy. She's been stood behind Gulliver, pulling the strings with his consent, and in an effort to revive the corpse of Mertagnian football has properly shaken up the squad for this Cup of Harmony outing. The media buzz around Ettrick is that she's a stern taskmaster whose moderate success with the U21 team was delivered more out of the fear of her players rather than her skill as a manager, and the fact that nobody on this team (except maybe Adrian Bruce) is scared of her has led to her management nosedive, which is a far cry from her previous presence as a voice the media once relied on to cut through the 'bullshit' surrounding the upper echelons of the Mertagnian football pyramid.

Gulliver and Ettrick prefer attacking football, with the former brandishing his Euran heritage, and the latter cutting her teeth playing football in the mountainous streets of Neorudo's Old Quarter.
Because of this, the squad will be playing with a style modifier of +3.5, as Kristie Ettrick pushes forward her own style of 'hitting first' - starting off play in an very attacking manner, eking out an advantage, and then holding it.

*Thanks to Ko-oren for the traits data and format. Mertagnian traits follow a [mental][mental][physical][style] format.

Typically, a player closer to the top of the chart within each position is more likely to be picked. This outfit of the Mertagnian National team will be playing in a 2-3-5 formation, that presses on the attack and is punishing if the ball is won in the attacking third. This team is also very capable of scoring from set pieces, and if an attack isn't looking feasible against a more defensively minded team, the players will be looking to create opportunities to get corners or free kicks.
If you RP first, you are encouraged to make a team selection that works for you.

A quick look at Kristie Ettrick's notes shows...

Most likely to...
Score a goal: Fabian Thundhart, Neville Cate, Claudio Vantula
Kick off a set piece: Koneg Drest, Dovico Harah, Skyan Davri, Heather Gell

Need a Referee for your own RP? Consider one of the following names if convenient.
List A are more prominent to officiating a match and of larger importance in relation to List B, and, List C, who may just play assisting roles.

Game fluidity refers to how much an official puts the game's continuation ahead of stoppages, by use of the advantage rule, etc.
Severity relates to how severe the official is in his penalties and bookings and his consistency in doing so.
Although hopefully all good, competence, is an overall expression of the official's capabilities and experience and how well he can handle matches. After all, it is easy, for example, for any skilled referee to lose control of a large match.

Ref. Paulo Mattoso (List A, Estremadura-Lisboa) | Game Fluidity: 3/5 Severity: 3/5 Competence: 4,5/5
Ref. Tomás Vilaça (List A, São Jorge-S.Jorge do Mar) | Game Fluidity: 5/5 Severity: 2/5 Competence: 4/5
Ref. "Pepe" Domingues (List A, Douro) | Game Fluidity: 2/5 Severity: 4,5/5 Competence: 4/5

Agung Suryanantha is the new head coach of Eraman

Daulapura: The former head coach of the Pemecutan national team, Agung Suryanantha has been appointed as the new head coach of the Eraman national team.

The development was announced by the President of Eraman Football Association (ERAFA), Tun Sengalang Petara at a press conference after the ERAFA Executive Committee meeting in Daulapura today.

He explained that the selection of the coach from Pemecutan was made after a thorough evaluation, especially when ERAFA received many applications to fill the position from around the world.

He said Agung Suryanantha was given a two-year contract with the option to be extended if he managed to improve the performance of the national team or if ERAFA is satisfied with his performance.

“Among the selection criteria to fill the position is his understanding of Eraman football, familiarity with the players as well as having managed a national team. We have done an in-depth study and we think he is the most qualified at this time to raise the national team to a new level. His experience of guiding Pemecutan to the Round of 16 in their first-ever World Cup appearance will be valuable for the country," he said.

The post of head coach of the national team is vacant after the resignation of Ross Hearkener following the failure of Eraman in the 90th World Cup qualifiers.

When one takes the million-foot view of the history of Legalese, what one likely sees is a nation with a long, rich history, full of stories and characters; a nation that has risen and fell, and risen again. Not immune to the ebb and flow of history, a place that finds their own way to stand out and be a part of the grand community called the Multiverse.

Even if you narrow that focus from the multiverse as a whole, to a focus on the multiversal sporting community, the view might not change much. After all, you’d see a nation that’s hosted two World Cups, along with a number of other international and regional footballing competitions, including both the prestigious AOCAF, and the emerging CAFA. A few former WCC Vice-Presidents called Legalese home; granted, VP is a position of admittedly mixed prestige, but one nonetheless.

All in all, one may see a nation that’s there, present, and a respected member of the community -- if less decorated on the pitch than a number of the neighbors, old and new.

Zoom that view in, however, and the picture changes. First, there are the gaps -- a number of long stretches without the black-and-red uniforms taking the pitch. A few breakdowns in government, an occupation here or there, and frankly just some eras where it’s as if the country just stopped giving a damn.

Then there was just the lack of success, of dynamism. Greatness, after all, isn’t just what one does on the pitch, but in how one is remembered. If one were to look through Legalite history to this point, there was just nothing really worth remembering. A fourth-place finish in a World Cup? A couple of decent players? The fact that their most interesting historical note was the battleground of a war they’d already been mostly out of, serving as the occupied in another’s story.

If anything, the real story of Legalese was a mere footnote -- maybe a couple, owing to the different chapters it took place in the grand book called life. Perhaps the best thing one could do, if they found something broken, was to close the book and turn the page.

However, as the deciders of fate had just discovered, there was at least one force that felt strongly about the nation and its’ history, to the point of breaking the rules of time -- not to mention asking new questions about the concepts of reincarnation -- and inadvertently breaking the last threads holding things together on a reality already frayed by the pushing of a button. This presence added to the first question (how do we fix all of this?) a further question: what’s worth saving?

The members of the tribunal pondered this, as they looked down from their dais to the beings seated in front of them. In the middle, lay both their problem, and possibly their solution.

Today, he took the form of Pedro Vasquez, midfielder for the Legalese National Team, a role he first took on in the Jurassic Invitational as a seven year old. Thanks to a quirk in history, he willed his childhood team back into existence as teenagers, intending to qualify for World Cup 23, and missing by sixty-seven cycles.

In between, he was Cyrus Damhan, possibly the best footballer to ever wear the black and red. One of the few to play abroad, as a member of 1860 Cathair, Damhan was a mainstay on the national team, playing in a total of five World Cups, all as if he was at his peak. A leader, capable of playing with a touch of creative flair one moment, shifting to a hard-nosed, hard-playing tackler the next.

He was almost too good to be true, and it seems, may have been one of the cracks in reality.
Host/Co-Host of many World Cup-associated things, mostly long ago. A couple of small wins as well, which is nice.

TEAM HISTORY
This is the official roster, featuring the Elite Eleven, an independent squad of Drawkians who have played all sports at a professional level for a confusingly long time. The old Kick Corps has been essentially removed, the players let go, and replaced by this squad of ridiculously skilled, annoyingly arrogant, and possibly immortal sportsmen. Nobody knows where they came from, or why DISC decided to replace the Kick Corps with them, but here they are. Just don't ask the baseball fans about them.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the Eleven are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Despite the fact that usually soccer is a female-only sport in Drawkland, the Elite Eleven have overturned that caveat as the higher-ups deemed them a suitable replacement in the interim as the real Kick Corps hides away for a few cycles and gets their shit back together.

As far as these go, I'm fair game for anything. You should know what is and isn't drastic RP, and if you think your RP is on the drastic side, TG me first. But I'm still basically up for anything.
I'd like to request that injuries or cards don't do anything outside of the scope of a single game or maybe 2. Don't want anything tournament or cycle-ending. Red cards should be limited to late knockout stages, and I'd probably think that there should be no more than 2 players red carded per tournament.
The Elite Eleven are sorta oddballs. I mean, they're a group of 11 dudebros, but they're supposedly immortal or something. Keep that in mind.

Disclaimers of various sorts:
I don't know very much about soccer. If I RP something weird, it's because I have little to no experience with this sport. But whatever.
If you have any questions about anything involving me, this team, my nation, this competition, life, etc., feel free to telegram me.

Nyowani Kitara National Team

Nyowani Kitara is a nation that is a multi-ethnic and largely bi-racial communist nation, formally ruled as a one party state. The communist party is called the Kitara Progressive Workers Coalitions, abbreviated as the KPWC, which is the country's only legal political party. While for many years the party has always been the most important institution, over the past 30 years the military has taken a dominant role in the affairs of the party, and by extension, the state.

There are three major ethnic groups in Nyowani Kitara. The first is the Kitara, who account for approximately 57% of the population. These are black skinned people who originate as part of the Kitara tribe, in Banija, mass migrated to modern-day Nyowani Kitara in the 1840s after they were largely exiled by Banijan authorities. Because of that, they have no diplomatic relations with Banija and are largely to be considered 'radically' anti-Banijan. Radical anti-Mormon teachings from the country, alongside Communism and a dispute over who should use the name(Banija consider their own Kitara Region to be the 'true Kitara', while Nyowani Kitara believe Banija lost the rights to the name when the exilied the Kitara people), lead to heavily strained relations.

When they came to north Rushmore, They conquered the land that was dominated by a variety of white native tribes. Osterlanders(approximately 30% of the population) are the biggest native white ethnic group, with Nordlanders(6%) and Zealanders(1%) behind them. The remaining 6% are largely white immigrants and their descendants from neighboring countries (particularly Graentfjall, Tikariot, Yuezhou, and San Ortelio).

Nyowani Kitara is known for its short, yet harsh, winters. This is a small and poorer country, and therefore outdoor sports are rather popular in this corner of Rushmore. Ethnic group for each player is listed. While sports in Nyowani Kitara are integrated on gender, this team is all males.

Nyowani Kitara is coming freshly out of a particularly brutal civil war. While it was a three-way fight, the KWFA is firmly in the hands of the government, and therefore it is official policy for the team to sing praises of the Government. While players are divided, they are under a heavy eye from the Nyowani Kitara Government via the KWFA, and therefore any players who publicly criticize the ruling party, aka the KPWC, or its government, will not last long in a national team shirt.

Information
Country code: NYK
Denonym: New Kitaran
Association: Kitara's Workers Footballing Association(KWFA)
Manager: Liang Wei(Yuezhou). 52 years old. A former assistant manager for Yuezhou during their communist era, he is a good selection for the country to lead the national team. He understands the pressures of international football, and yet, as someone loyal to the Communists in Yuezhou, is palatbly acceptable to Nyowani Kitara(who remain the last nation in Rushmore to still recognize Ren Qiang as the rightful head of state of their western neighbors). While Nyowani Kitara used a player-manager at the last three Copa Rushmoris, the KWFA, in recognition of the challenges of World Cup competition, ensured that they'd hire a full-time manager to properly divide out responsibilities.
Senior Assistant Manager: Raira Ouma. 41 years old.

Alternate Captain: Odede Angonga

Notes:
- Our free kicks are taken by Ramah Abong'o. Penalties are taken by Owino Odede.

Wang Jiahui
- Wang is a mobile forward most at home as a penalty-box predator, but who also loves playing on the right wing and cutting inside to unleash long-range shots. Wang Jiahui was once conisdered the next big thing in Yue football. While his footballing talent remains, his diehard support for Ren Qiang's doomed socialist regime in Yuezhou turned him into a POW and a fugitive in the newly-established United Republics, and so he had to go abroad. Finding a home in Mytanija, he's risen to stardom with the opportunity focus solely on club football, with Litala '93. But he's itching to get back into international duty. Wang Jiahui, as a supporter of Ren Qiang, was also a very loud supporter of President Nafuna Akongo during the civil war. He even held a fundraiser for the KPWC in the early stages of the war, when it looked as if the Kitara Revolutionary Forces would collapse. Therefore, without a country, the President reached out, and gave him an award for 'special services to the state'. She also, surprisingly, gave him citizenship- a unique power of the President in the Kitaran Constitution. Despite diplomatic protests and strong protests from other FAs, as he is a Kitaran citizen, he is eligible to represent Nyowani Kitara in international competition- so his compatriot, Liang Wei, has called him up.

Saint Eleanor roster: Who could take the field during the 82nd Cup of Harmony?
Saint Eleanor State Broadcasting's Chief Football Correspondent, Jamie Rodgers, reminds you of exactly the same people who tried and failed to win football matches a few months ago

The Cup of Harmony! An ideal time to refresh, recharge - and most importantly relent on any expectations of the national team performing well. After a good first qualifying cycle and an unnecessarily poor Cup of Harmony, the White Stars have been found out against much superior and sometimes far inferior opposition over the past year-and-a-half, although (unlike certain invitees) they managed to get something out of their first five games. The opportunity for them to achieve glory at no cost has arisen, for one of the last times we can imagine.

Perhaps they will welcome the opportunity to face off against potentially middling teams - or not - rather than the apparently endless slog of either relative newcomers or experienced participants that have characterised the post-1997 landscape. Avoiding more self-fulfilling prophecies will be crucial, and perhaps more easily achieved; Priscilla Evans has once again selected the same twenty-three players that were chosen for the World Cup 90 qualifiers, boasting that "our staff are more than capable of talking and training them into good shape." Whether they will is yet to be seen.

John Bailey (#1), by now an Independence 1975 icon, performed acceptably in Group 3 of qualifying given the circumstances; perhaps he will not concede two goals per game during the Cup of Harmony. Like his goalkeeping teammates, Bailey is generally reluctant to venture further than the six-yard box unless absolutely necessary, but is more open to pushing forward and acting as a defender of last resort when he ever is forced to do so.

Luke Gregory (#2), Harriet Williams' predecessor as Athletic Saint Eleanor captain and now-established starter for Sword and Shield, is still regarded by many observers of domestic football as a decent, traditional left-back. While not as fast as Davies (or perhaps even himself, circa a few years ago), he can still be relied on to be as physical as necessary and no more to get the ball, as well as to send it forward to Donald - or Parkinson, as necessary.

Exandra Davies (#3) - pronounced "Sandra" - is still one of the few Little Six delegates, despite having moved from Good Hope Club to Occidental Olympic before the World Cup qualifiers after what she described as "ridiculous differences". She is arguably the most eccentric player in the squad - insisting on eating half a satsuma before every match (the manager might want the other half for herself) and never pulling her socks beyond the top of her shinpads - but can easily take the ball from anyone, by force if necessary, and give it to any of her teammates on a good day.

James Trott (#4), who normally plays as a standard-issue central midfielder for Independence 1975, is expected to drop a bit deeper for the national team. Trott usually seeks to take the ball, whether through tackles and interceptions, before the defenders can be threatened; unlike Paul Ferry and Liam West, however, he seeks to distribute the ball to his midfield partner or perhaps those playing further upfield.

Paul Ferry (#5), Gregory's teammate from Sword and Shield, is the White Stars' hard man, seeking to trouble opposing strikers for as long as possible and willing to go hard - but fair - to stop them scoring. This has apparently not stopped him from contributing "about one in twenty dollars" of his salary to local church projects operating in and around east coastal Saint Eleanor city.

Liam West (#6) captains Independence 1975, Saint Eleanor's greatest club, as well as the country itself. The solid but largely nondescript centreback is more willing to subtly jostle opposing attackers off the ball, if not outright preventing them from having it in the first place, than Ferry - just. He has leadership credentials away from football as well, having worked as a floor manager in a corner shop in north-eastern Saint Eleanor city for what he has said has been "far too many" years, although perhaps not very many days, with varying degrees of success.

Evan Donald (#7), Army and Navy's first-choice left-winger, is the White Stars' too; he is usually happy to wait on the ball for Gregory to overlap but can also run forward himself if necessary... or desired. Should it be required, he can happily fill in at left-back: in 1993, Aidan Harris was taken out of action for two months after a fractured ankle caused by a harsh tackle from Donald during training.

Harriet Williams (#8), skipper of Independence's great rivals Athletic Saint Eleanor, is expected to balance out Trott's convervatism with a more positive approach, receiving and spraying around passes for the wide midfielders and strikers in the team from open play. Yet as the omnibus setpiece taker for club and country, many will also expect her to sprout or even singlehandedly create significant opportunities from the dead ball.

Katie O'Donnell (#9), almost the season's top scorer in the league for Athletic, hasn't done too badly for the national team either: think back to both of the goals she scored on our visit to Electrum last year. Despite topping out at 5 feet 9 inches, she arguably has - largely accidental - similarities to her somewhat shorter manager, Priscilla Evans, with her incredible athleticism and willingness to take opportunities that few others on either team notice.

Aidan Harris (#10), who not only captains Army and Navy but is also its only player to serve in the full military, was reportedly added on the insistence of Stephen Mitcham (Evans' assistant and his classmate at the Eleanorian Military Academy). A more stationary - and physical - striker, Harris is domestically infamous for managing to get into the penalty area with sufficient regularity to at least hammer the ball somewhere in front of him. It appears to have worked for him year in, year out.

Jessica Martin (#11), starring out wide for Sword and Shield as well as the national team, could pose a threat to opposing left-backs but cannot keep and control the ball as well as Donald. Martin is also one of the most politically involved players in the Eleanorian squad, having fought for the abolition of VAT on sporting equipment and successfully lobbied the President to enact the ICT Order - which amended the curriculum to require all schoolchildren to be proficient in digital skills such as computer usage - in 1995.

What kit will the players be wearing?

Home: Black shirt, shorts and socks
Away: Blue and yellow vertically-striped shirt*, yellow shorts and blue socks
Goalkeeper: Green shirt, shorts and socks

Image

*the back side and sleeves of the away shirt are all in yellow
Darren Batchelor (#12), brought in to replace a wobbly and aging Sam Carter, is a Private in the Eleanorian Army (and Army and Navy's newly-minted starting right midfielder). Although not as physically solid as his clubmates and hardly any quicker than Martin, he has been marked out by his manager as "potentially not a really bad player come a couple of years from now, you know?" and will be expected to perform with the few runouts he should get in some group games and perhaps beyond.

Georgia Wood (#13), Golden Unicorn's consistently inconsistent goalkeeper, is practically out of contention for the starting lineup after Bailey's decent performances in the Baptism of Fire and qualifiers. Despite voicing concern about the Big Four's domination of what she now believes is an excessively entrenched roster, she is an otherwise slightly above-average player - the kind the average Eleanorian might want to look up to if they want to have anything less than a significant headache in their playing careers, albeit one hampered by poor performances from her club's outfielders.

John Parkinson (#14), who received the Golden Backpack - awarded for the best footballer in secondary school - in 1991, now starts for Sword and Shield, joining Martin out wide and being similarly energetic. Many, however, have pointed to his relative lack of experience in the Premier League - having made most of his appearances over the past two years as well as suffering from a few silly mistakes against his fellow lower-half strugglers - which Evans appears to have accepted for the most part.

Alice Christopher (#15) also earned a strong reputation at school but for different reasons, serving as Richards' deputy head girl at the Eleanorian Academy in the 1987 school year. Now with Independence 1975, the pair remain friendly off the pitch yet have developed a sort of rivalry on it, with some observers arguing that the two do play similarly but with Christopher instead playing in the deeper role Trott occupies in this national team.

Laura Brown (#16), centreback by trade and Davies' good friend from Good Hope Club - even despite recent events - has earned something of a reputation for avoiding tackles where possible, instead aiming on intercepting passes and then making her own. The expected fielding of Ferry and West ahead of her, however, alongside Harris starting up front appears to suggest that Saint Eleanor will continue to perpetuate their more physical approach to defending.

Adam Denby (#17) is nominally half of Occidental Olympic's strike partnership. In practice, however, he regularly moves around the front third to set up, create and yes, realise scoring opportunities. While Evans is nowhere near as combative with him as she was with Jack Smith of Good Hope Club, it is understood that she continues to trust in O'Donnell and Harris up front - but is willing to bring Denby on from the bench when necessary (or sufficient).

Luke Elliott (#18), West's centre-back partner at Independence, is not the only Luke who can play in the national team's back four - but he is the much less likely one. Elliott has regularly shown himself to be capable on pressing relatively high for a defender and then going into a position more typical of midfielders, arguably including Trott and Christopher. In this case, his relative versatility may have justified why he is not expected to play a major role.

Steve Pilchard (#19), the only player here who has never known Saint Eleanor as anything but an independent country, has surprised many by barely being given a look-in during the World Cup qualifiers, despite having a few excellent seasons with Occidental Olympic. Evans has, at least, promised to start him for Saint Eleanor's first two group games; whether that will avoid inflamming either of the White Stars' two starting midfielders - or help stabilise her employment - is yet to be seen.

Grace Bryant (#20), despite having moved to Nova Aegis while on duty (to the chagrin of most military leaders, especially those associated with Army and Navy), will likely continue her long-running stint on the bench for the national team. Although more likely to cut inside than rush forward - and being bulkier, albeit less tactically flexible, than Davies - her lack of playing time in recent years may have played a part in keeping her on the fringes.

Paul Johnson (#21) is the only member of this squad not to have been brought up in the capital, which boasts all ten of the Saint Eleanor League's teams; he instead made his name playing for a representative squad from his hometown of Bishopgate. It was there that he won the somewhat belated attention of Athletic Saint Eleanor's scouts; although he has replaced Gregory as their main leftback, he cannot claim a similar victory on the international stage and arguably has too similar a playing style.

Fred Newton (#22), who (with O'Donnell) is half of Athletic's usual strike partnership, is faster than her but much less technically gifted. Despite arguments as to whether he should be playing alongside or even supplanting Donald or Martin, his relatively high shirt number appears to suggest that he may be called upon as a backup striker; Saint Eleanor still keeps to a fairly traditional shirt-numbering system in most places.

Brian Tarrant (#23), once again enjoying a good season with Army and Navy, is - also once again - facing accusations that this may be as a result of the Soldiers being even more muscular and defensive than the national team as a whole, especially outfield. He did not play in World Cup qualifying, despite suggestions that he could have started at home for what turned out to be a 2-1 defeat to Geektopia.

Priscilla Evans (the national team manager) is something of a cult figure in her home city of Tinhampton, having almost led it to two World Cups while it had a functional FA before scoring the goal that sent the Miners to the semi-finals of the 73rd Cup of Harmony - which they won - and earning a move to Crystal Fair HC of the Crystal Empire afterwards, becoming the only Tinhamptonian ever to play abroad. Hypothetical fears about her reputation or nationality have long since given way to concerns about performance following the qualifiers; good results will be essential to her future with the team.

Stephen Mitcham (Evans' assistant) is not only a Lieutenant in the Eleanorian Army, but also the 31-year-old son of George, the military general who has ruled the country for more than two decades and has managed to keep control through prudent management of the North Star Oil Company and public reputation as a trustworthy family man. Although some have claimed that his employment could never have arisen without his father's interference in the nomination process, the fact that the Saint Eleanor Football Association appointed - and continues to support - a Tinhamptonian for the top job appears to defy their allegations.

Anybody living in Saint Eleanor can watch every Cup of Harmony match live on TV1 and TV2, listen to them on Radio 3, or follow the competition on our website, sesb.ex - all of these arms of Saint Eleanor State Broadcasting. (Sunbeam FM, a privately-owned station, will broadcast all group stage games that are not available on Radio 3.) This is one of the many benefits provided by the expansion of the national television signal in January 1997.

****** The Grand Republic of Saint Eleanor - area 2,863mi2, population 489,816, 1.6 cups of coffee/Eleanorian/day - it's 2000 (OOC: obvious Tinhampton puppet)
BoF76 quarterfinalists --- WC91 participants

Why? George Mitcham, General then and now, cofounded the National Liberation Front in 1971 to demand a free Saint Eleanor. He got his wish in '75 after a 15-month war: becoming President, appointing notable NLF friends and some charity's executive director as VPs and calling them legislators. He has retained power through oil money; zero income tax; free healthcare, schooling, public transport - and markets; tolerating dissent on apolitical matters; allowing private gun ownership (with plenty of training) to protect against future invasions; high-quality PR; and football.

Electrum National Football Team
presented by Electrum Football

General Information

Once a humble team comprised of human footballers, this team is one of the few to have failed in its attempt to not win the World Cup. This failure happened in World Cup 78, although many Electrumites like to pretend this failure does not exist. Just a few short cycles after this win, the Electrumite team, along with their compatriots, froze in time after a disastrous experiment with time particles called chrons. It was at this point that our kindly, most benevolent, yet mysterious five dimensional leader The Computator, four beings that share a single voice, unfroze the nation and put it back on track. Chaos is now the aim of the game for the Elecrumite national football team, with the introduction of extra-dimensional players thanks to The Computator. This strategy has finally worked with the return of Electrum to the final stages in World Cup 89, where they were the only nation to beat eventual World Cup winners Ko-oren. It really makes you think. Fortunately in this cycle, World Cup 90, Electrum successfully qualified for the Cup of Harmony after a significant battle in the latter part of the group stage where it was still possible for the team to fail qualifying for the clearly superior Harmony tournament.

Statistical Information

Best World Cup record: Champion (WC78)
Worst World Cup record: Censored
WCC match record: Unknowable

Coaching Staff
Manager: Tyler Fernando
Assistant Manager: Jemima Bryant
Development Manage: Risa Shigaraki

Tyler Fernando, sentient creature with noted footballing skills, has been appointed for another cycle to manage the Electrumite team. Fernando has finally made the team's unique ecological composition work with an appearance at World Cup 89 Finals. He is known for being in the World Cup Failing Team of '78, piloting the team with his superb captaincy. He has succeeded in his mission in qualifying for the Cup of Harmony.

Roster
Starting XI
#1 Ralph Mills - 27 - GK - Image Hamilton Sandstorm
A studious goalkeeper, Mills graduated top of his economics class and is well versed in game theory, in particular simultaneous games related to the taking of penalties. His crib notes are dozens of pages long with various analyses of opposing penalty-takers depending on any situation that may arise. Sometimes these notes may fly in the wind.

#4 Elenora Sapper - 23 - DF - Image Pinkerton FC
The youngest member of the starting XI, Sapper is QUICK with unrivalled stamina running across the pitch. She likes to provoke and get in her opponent's faces and toes the line with the referees.

#5 Bayden Forest - 28 - DF - Image Hamilton Sandstorm
A tall, bulky player who is described as a cross between a tree and a brick wall, with his intelligence between those two objects. Nice guy though.

#15 Marcus Renshaw - 27 - FW - Image FC Fairleigh-Warburton
Renshaw only communicates using emojis in group conversations and it's really starting to bug us. Also he has eczema.

#9 Sentient Energy Ball (Seb) - ?? - FW
Seb will be wearing a fabric spherical 'jacket' which conveniently looks like a normal football at certain angles. This is a strange attempt to get the opposition off for kicking a player deliberately for a red card. Let's see if it works after this strategy has been used for two cycles. When short tempered, easily short circuited.

#12 William Stewart - 25 - DF - Image University
There is absolutely nothing interesting about William Stewart except for the fact that his name is comprised of two first names.

#13 Julius van Buren - 30 - MF - Image Grenville Sailors
van Buren, as his name suggests, is very flashy. Likes to run circles around his opponents and great at manipulating the ball and getting past opponents.

#27 Crystal Le - 30 - DF - Image Kale Island Dwarfs
A long time second string player, Le finds herself with a golden opportunity after Alan Moore's retirement. Le is adept with the ball but sometimes plays too selflessly to her detriment.

#20 Nindethana Nindethana (c) - 29 - MF - Image Eastal Lunar
Nicknamed Nindethana squared, her favourite board game is Maxopoly and she is one of the few Kale Islanders on the team. She possesses mystical powers to open portals between two locations at short distance but refuses to use those advantages in a football match. Honourable.

#22 Einarsson, King of the Armoured Bears - ?? - MF
An old friend of The Computator's, Einarsson has played in the Electrumite team as a favour to our nation's leader. To him, ten years of Earth time is equivalent to six months of bear time, so really this is kind of a short vacation rather than a long-term thing.

#24 Android X4-TU in the shape of a flightless bird - ?? - MF
The talons of Android X4-TU (upgraded from version X3-TU) are known to puncture balls, so opponents are often very keen to get the ball away from it. Often matches are delayed to replace the ball.
