Last Chance Saloon:
Top five matches to watch as WC Qualifying shapes up

Remember the good 'ole days of yore when Cosumar's World Cup hopes and dreams would always come down to the last matchday of Qualifying? Oh wait, that was like... every edition until we hit the World Cup 80s. So if you're not, uh, five years old, you should remember. This should be an article that you, as a Cosumarite, can identify with on a deeply personal level.

Yes, it's "That Time" for many nations around the soccerverse right now. Cosumar may have qualified last week when Airik Ruhl literally kicked The Macabees (ALL of them) into oblivion at Leviathan Arena... BUT! You can still vicariously experience the nerve-wracking, stomach-turning, hair-pulling drama by adopting one of the teams below as a rooting interest.

What follows, therefore, are our must-watch picks for the FIVE best clashes with the most at stake on Matchday 18.

5) Equestrian States @ Sharktail (Group 10)
Group 10 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Equestrian States 17 12 3 2 30 7 +23 39
2 Garifunya 17 12 2 3 29 18 +11 38
3 Saltstead 17 11 3 3 29 10 +19 36
Now this is an open group. It just had to make it onto the list somehow. It's the only Qualifying group where not a single nation has secured anything yet. No one is assured of even a place in the playoff, except maybe Equestrian States if you go down the list of tiebreakers. But we're too lazy to do that. The top three nations - Equestrian States, Garifunya and Saltstead - are neck and neck and could completely reshuffle in various orders in the space of a couple minutes on the pitch. What's more, none of the three nations are playing each other. So followers of this group will have to split between three different screens to keep up with the movement in the table. The drama potential is high. Most importantly, Equestrian States vs. Sharktail has an excellent animal theme going on. Ever watch those simulated animal duels on Discovery Channel? It's time for some horse vs. shark. Last time around, the Equestrian States won 5-0 at home, so look for them to lock up their qualification unless Sharktail has as much of an advantage at home as a shark would in the ocean.

4) South Covello @ Ko-oren (Group 18)
Group 18 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 South Covello 17 15 2 0 34 3 +31 47
2 Ko-oren 17 15 0 2 28 6 +22 45
Both teams have technically already qualified because Ko-oren is just such a great perennial runner-up, but the Dragonflies sure would love to beat the team directly above them in the table and leapfrog them into first. In fact, considering how unlikable of a nation South Covello is... who wouldn't like to see that? AO pride, baby! This also THE qualifier to watch if you're a fan of defense. Both nations are well-regarded for having some of the best defensive tactics the game has ever seen - certainly in recent eras - and the result have borne that out. Only 3 goals allowed for South Covello and 6 allowed for Ko-oren across 17 matches. Licking your lips at this one yet?

3) Acronius @ Mattijana (Group 7)
Group 7 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Eura 17 16 0 1 50 14 +36 48
2 Acronius 17 10 2 5 39 28 +11 32
3 Mattijana 17 9 4 4 54 39 +15 31
4 North Prarie 17 8 5 4 43 36 +7 29
Hope and pain, they go hand-in-hand. Both Acronius and Mattijana, each long on the fringes of making World Cups in recent years, again have a faint glimmer of hope of sneaking into the World Cup via the playoff. But only one of them will prolong there hope. Only one will get that shot they yearn for. They face each other as counterparts in an absolute SHOWDOWN for second-place. Mattijana need to win, but we know they can - they beat Acronius on the road with three goals in their first meeting. A repeat performance and they've got a shot at getting crushed by Drawkland or somebody in the playoff making the big party at last.

2) Vilita @ Mercedini (Group 13)
Group 13 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Vilita 17 15 2 0 56 16 +40 47
2 Mercedini 17 15 0 2 61 20 +41 45
Now this is just a quality match. The best two teams in Group 13 and two of the best teams around, period. If Mercedini can pull out a famous victory at home, it would be one of the best in their program's history. They'll fully deserve that first place auto-berth out of Group 13 that would accompany. It would be a major blow to Vilita's pride to fall into the second seed and, generally, symbolize the new guard rising up to perhaps supplant some of the old guard. We've seen that in some of the other groups this cycle. Will it happen though? Probably not. Vilita is just so good right now. Like, undefeated good.

1) Tinhampton @ Cassadaigua (Group 16)
Group 16 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Brenecia 17 14 2 1 35 6 +29 44
2 Cassadaigua 17 13 1 3 45 19 +26 40
3 Tinhampton 17 13 1 3 26 7 +19 40
Like Acronius-Mattijana, a juicy butting-of-heads for that ferociously-contested 2nd-place spot behind the reigning World Cup champions. Unlike Acronius and Mattijana, Tinhampton and Cassadaigua get the top spot because they're so damn evenly-matched. They're tied on points and played to a 0-0 draw last time around. And they have prettier kit colors. Can the Miners' gritty defense keep the Dagans at bay long enough for them to snag a winner this time?

BONUS: Juvencus @ Cosumar (Group 2)
Group 2 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Cosumar 17 15 1 1 49 10 +39 46
2 Juvencus 17 11 5 1 44 19 +25 38
3 Acapais 17 11 2 4 35 24 +11 35
Eh, this is a Cosumarite publication, so of course we have to talk about ourselves too. COSUMAR! Anyways, this perhaps the best pure football to watch outside of Vilita-Mercedini on Matchday 18. The Vanquishers and Juven are two sides that can really move the ball around and play good stuff. We're basically locked into our 1st and 2nd places, so the teams should be relaxed enough to focus on playing well (rather than doing anything for a result) to prepare for what is to come. If the drama is getting too high in the other five matches, tune into the Vanquishers to relax a bit. If you really need something at stake to keep track of, it's a last chance for many Cosumarite players to prove their worth to Alexander Pearce. That 40-man pool has got to come down to 23 somehow. It will be especially interesting to see what happens at striker. Based only on Qualifying performances, there are, like... 8 strikers that could get selected without anybody batting an eye.

If you like underdogs, you can also tune in to see if still-alive Pot 4 nations New Lusitania (Group 1) or Indusse (Group 6) can win and secure a surprise spot in next week's qualification playoffs. Astonishingly, 223rd-ranked Polkopia will also head into a bout with Qusmo hoping to surpass Valanora, with whom they are currently tied on points, to the automatic qualification spot atop Group 9. Now, that would be a big underdog accomplishment.

Today's cutoff, most unfortunately, is the last day of Northern Hemisphere. Easily, By far, and absolutely indisputably the best of the four seasons, it is, indeed, a sad day. All the rest of the cutoffs will be after the Autumn Solstice. A truly tragic affair.

For this cutoff, of course, we're visiting Ghana. A song written about the greatest season ever made. I hope you've enjoyed your tour of Africa.

P.S. Please take note of this important host announcement
Former champion of quite a few things. Former President of even more things.
Kabaka = King
Lubuga = Queen Consort
Isebantu = Crown Prince
Waziri = Foreign Minister
Katikkiro = Prime Minister

just missed the cutoff, that I didn't need anyway. LOL But thanks to Darmen for an excellent RP to finish off the storyline.

(the conclusion...)

Once the Prime Minister finished her little sermon, she immediately switched the topic to the match. "I'm told, Mr President, that you are quite the keen observer of the sport, and you played a little bit professionally?" Lee nodded and glanced at O'Donahaue. "Oh yes, I am the National Team's number 1 fan."

"You'll understand that we have such a wide range of sports in this country, and I am a season ticket holder for the club in my constituency, Coolville United, but my university days at University of Endover were in the midst of a period when our American football team was extremely successful.
But we have made arrangements for you to have the best view in the house for the match."

The security details and the other aides interrupted the meeting at that point and the Prime Minister stood up. "I suppose we should allow you relax and freshen up for a bit. I'm told, Mr President, that you'd like to be at the stadium in time for the pre-match warm-up? I'm told we will have the motorcade ready for you at 6:20 and it will be about a 8-10 minute ride to the stadium which will get you there in plenty of time."

The security detail escorted the President and the others in the Darmen official party towards the elevators. The PM and Thomas Dixon and a couple of aides stayed behind in the lounge for a minute. "Tom? President Lee doesn't seem to be particularly interested in much of the topic." She had a hard time not laughing.
"But we are fine, the FM seems like he is zeroed in the trade deal. I think Mr Lee might not really be much for talking shop when we get to Keller. We should play it as it comes. I don't think you'll care if he's off on his own and we continue to bandy about our thoughts with Mr O'Donahaue."

"No, of course not. Really, who doesn't have their share of eccentric characters in high positions of government. I've got you, for example." Dixon gave her a smirk.

As they stepped back into the lobby, one of the assistants who was liaising with the hotel management approached. "Excuse me, Prime Minister. One of the Darmen aides just called to say that the President is very happy with the accommodations & accepts the invitation to spend the night here." Rebecca nodded her head. "Find Mr Tanner and let him know that he should make any arrangements necessary with regards to the billing, or other details." Another reason Wesley Tanner was included in this particular delegation was the fact that he was a minority investor in the group that owned The Beaulieu; he could be the middleman between whatever expenses the government were going to pick up and the management.
"Oh, and someone needs to find out if they have any baggage on their plane they might want, and we'll need to make arrangement for someone to go to the airport and pick it up."

The assistant began to hurry away. She remembered another thing. "Oh, oh. and the flight crew from their plane. Ask if we should bring them down here also, so we'll need a shuttle van, I suppose." The assistant confirmed that any other contingencies would be handled.

That one exchange summarized Rebecca Schoenlein as a politician and political leader; she concentrated on minute details and saw issues, potential problems & their solutions from perspectives that most people didn't explore.

"We might as well tell them they can open the lounge now, because I'm thinking that's where we will be holding forth for a bit."

Nearly an hour later, as the clock was just past 6 pm, another aide came in with a message for Foreign Minister Dixon. "Mr O'Donahaue says that he won't be accompanying the President in the early motorcade, but wonders if the Prime Minister could recommend someone from her country to ride along with him, while he requests to travel with yourself to the match."

In the interim, The Soleil Room had seen a steady clientele come in, mostly businessmen and women, in small groups and individually.

The PM reached into her jacket pocket and pulled her slim money clip out; she shifted a bill into her left hand unseen by Dixon and reached out & rested the same hand on the bar, which was a generally recognized signal in the Commonwealth of Baker Park that the customer wanted the attention of the barkeep.

"Yes, ma'am, how can I be of service?" The PM smiled innocently. "I didn't catch your name earlier..."

"Patrick, Madame Prime Minister." Damn. She was recognized, but smiled happily. "Patrick, you have automatically advanced to round two of Prime Minister Quiz Time. Let's see how good you are at history." She raised the outer three fingers of her left hand slightly off the bar. "You can tell me who that is?"

"Yes Prime Minister. Josiah Peter Moore" She nodded appreciatively. "It would be the greatest honor if someday they decided to put my face on a currency denomination, and then you could tell your grandchildren about the day that Rebecca Schoenlein sat at your bar."

Patrick nodded anxiously. "It will already be great story, but in that case it would be fantastic."

"So, Patrick, is there someone here in the lounge who is a massive soccer fan and could talk about the national team until lat call?"
Patrick averted his eyes down the bar and noticed a customer looking to order. "Hold that thought, ma'am"

Dixon hissed at her under his breath. "What are you doing? You're going to find some off the street civilian to ride in a limo with the Head of State of a foreign country that we are trying to make a treaty with?" She put her index finger up to her lips. Patrick returned less than 2 minutes later.
"There is just the man you are looking for here. He is with a few of his colleagues almost directly to your left, but a bit off your shoulder." The PM casually swung her head and back.
"What does he do? Is he respectable?"

Patrick glanced in that direction and back again. "I can tell you all I know. He works in the city, but lives here in Deauville, he takes the trolley back and forth. I don't know if he doesn't have a car or just doesn't bother. He usually watches the National Team on the TV here, and he is probably about as regular customer as we have."

The PM teased the bartender once more. "Tell me three important facts about Josiah Peter Moore?" She lifted her hand off the bill slightly.

"He was the first person to be Prime Minister 4 different times, he served longer in the Assembly than any other person, and he's the only person with their face on currency that was born in the Commonwealth."

The PM and Dixon smiled broadly. "See Tom, the young people do learn something". She pushed the CBP$100 bill across the bar towards him. "Lucky Ducky! A winner for PM Quiz Time, Tom! Does he have a name, Patrick?"

"Colin Walton. He really is a nice guy. Doesn't get sloppy drunk, pays his tab every week in cash. Drinks beer 95% of the time."

The Prime Minister made a subtle motion with her arm, nothing that 99.8% of people would think was anything but her stretching out. Within seconds, the Protection Service agent was at her side. But Dixon decided it would be less seemly if he handled this.

He walked over to the table where Walton and a few of his colleagues were having discussions among themselves. "I apologize for interrupting, but I was looking for a Colin Walton. A mutual friend told me I might find him here."
The well-dressed 50-ish man sitting just second in from the end of the booth replied immediately. "Oh, really. I'm Colin, who is it we know in common?"

Dixon took the chance he had 60/40 confidence was going to come through. "Hi, Larry Lacewell told me you held court here. He said if I was in the neighborhood to stop in say hello."

Walton made almost no discernible reaction, but he knew that this person had him made. "Oh sure Larry and I go way back, but I've not seen him in years."

"Oh he's still crazy. I was just leaving, could I have a word in private though? He had something he wanted me to tell you."

you may have missed out on a reference in some other RP, but in the Commonwealth Intelligence Service--the nation's spy agency--operatives & informants as well as "OpSources", who are normally foreign nationals, are given a code name to use to identify themselves to others who have top secret clearance. To mention knowing 'Larry Lacewell' in a conversation is a signal to another that there is an intelligence matter at hand. OOC--in this case, Dixon was operating on a hunch.

Walton waved off his companions. "It's OK, I'll be back in a minute" The two of them walked towards the front door of the lounge. "Who the hell are you? I've not been an informant for the CIS for years?"

"Just be calm for 2 minutes." Dixon opened the glass door and the two men walked in the direction of the lobby entrance.

At that point the Protection Service agents gave him a perfunctory pat down and the Prime Minister came out from behind a display for the various locations in the lobby. "Mr Walton, I apologize for all of this rush and secrecy. I'm.."

Walton got his wits about him. "You're Rebecca Schoenlein. What do you want with me? I told your guy I've not been an informant for years."

The PM gave an arched eyebrow at Dixon. "Mr Walton, I need you to listen to me for the next 60 seconds. Not any one of standing here knew the first thing about you 5 minutes ago. The bartender said you were a regular customer and you were knowledgeable about soccer and the national team. The President of Darmen is coming down in a few moments and he is more into soccer than he is about diplomacy. We--the Commonwealth--need someone to keep the man company for 40-45 minutes. He wants to go to the stadium for the warmups. We will cover all of your expenses, have you as part of the official party, bring you back here or take you to your home. If he loses interest in your company after an hour, you'll be welcome to stay as my guest to watch the match. I just need you to be willing to indulge the man in soccer conversation for a bit. Is that agreeable to you?"

Walton was dazed and a bit buzzed, but he understood what he was being told. "Sure ma'am. I'll do it. Can I have one of my friends from inside along as well?"

Dixon nodded, and the PM continued. "Of course Mr Walton, give us his name and we will ask hom to join us."

By this time, President Lee stepped off the elevator with his entourage and Rebecca welcomed him. "Mr President, I hope you found the accommodations to your satisfaction? Your aides have said that you have chosen to stay over, and we have made the arrangements for all of your party, including your flight crew from the airport, who should be arriving here with all of your luggage, to have rooms here. I'd like to introduce to you Mr Colin Walton who will ride over to the stadium with you. He is very knowledgeable about the sport and I'm sure he will happy to answer any questions or just talk about the match."

In the meantime, Walton's chosen partner had been given a brief pat down and explanation inside of the lounge, and was just now coming to join the others.
___________________________________________________________________________________

When it was time for the PM and her staff to head over to Keller Field, Foreign Minister O'Donahaue arrived with a worried expression on his face.
"I want to extend my most sincere apologies to you Prime Minister. The President was not really focused on anything else except the match. And I'm very afraid that he might not be finished with embarrassing the nation tonight.

As they proceeded through the traffic, the Darmen FM laid out his concerns about President Lee.
Rebecca was a bit amused by the whole situation. "Mr O'Donahaue, we are not so bound up in concluding an agreement tonight. We will be able to talk casually about things during the match, and President Lee can concentrate on his primary focus. I found someone who was prepared to keep his attention on the matter at hand without having to be bothered by negotiations and trade barriers. It is not a problem."

Valladares 0–2 Beepee

Scorers:
Patterson (pen 24')
Veera (55')

Beepee ended their world cup qualification with an excellent, and somewhat surprising, 2-0 victory over Vallardes.

The first goal came from a penalty, with captain Chris Patterson placing the ball beyond the reach of the diving Vallardes goalkeeper.

The second saw prolific striker Sam Veera bundle the ball over the line as Vallardes failed to properly clear a blocked shot from Bannan.

The victory in Vallardes saw Beepee finish the qualifiers with a highly respectable 36 points from their 18 games and finish well above expectations: 3rd place in the group only 2 points behind New Lusitania.

The qualifiers will likely be remembered for the shock win over the incredible Turori Cocoabo team.

The win however was not sufficient to see Beepee sneak second place as New Lusitania thumped Guadalajara 7-2.

Despite being eliminated at the qualification stage, the Beepee squad have performed well above expectations and Coleen Yu, Head Coach, expressed her delight at how the campaign went.

Beepeean Player of the campaign went to Sam Veera who also won the Beepeean Golden Boot.

Beepee will now go on to enthusiastically cheer on all the competing teams in the play offs and the world cup proper.

CASSADAIGUA vs TINHAMPTON at CONCORD HEIGHTS, CASSADAIGUA
LIVE ON SHORTWAVE RADIO - commentary by GEORGE PIRATIN and PETER FORD
THE SCRIPT IS PRESENTED BELOW...

GEORGE PIRATIN (GP): Now, as you would otherwise see, the referee has thrust up his board for seven minutes of additional time, mostly incurred in the wake of Steve Cameron being knocked out cold halfway through this half. This time, the Cassadagan team are on the wrong end of the decision and we have Mattison taking the free kick that has resulted, with his substitute al-Khazr this time not being a very happy man. Now, it gets whipped in, cleared well... what on earth is happening?
PETER FORD (PF): I know about as much as the next guy, but that looked to me like a foul on somebody, looked like Ranucci but I'm not entirely sure ab---
GP: My word, that really is getting harsh out there! Julia Atherton's surely given Zack Pierce five around the eyes, hasn't she, surely?
PF: No, never happened, he just about avoided it, which is more than can be said of Czarna Gora - he wins that round, it seems...
GP: Penalty! Penalty! This is a flipping PENALTY! This is the most controversial penalty I've never... ever, sorry been seen given! We've got our goalkeeper and our captain given their marching orders in fifteen seconds! This is getting tremendously shambolic, and a pity for us too!
PF: And in amidst all this scramble, the ref's trying to sort it out but Hannah Ranucci puts it on the spot. What more can I say?
GP: Not a lot, really... The mess has been sorted out, the referee blows his whistle, he sorts out the penalty. Now he blows his whistle again, yes, yet again, Ranucci looks confident that she'll score but not before striker Graham is forced to make way for Josh Smith. Can she do it? Yes, she has done it, she has only gone and done it! Tinhampton trail Cassadaigua by one goal to nil and their qualification hopes are in the gutter!
PF: A strike par excellence. Hit low, hard, central, Smith had no chance of getting to it but only because he was unready for it.
GP: Well, somebody's getting sacked in the morning, and she doesn't work in the Dagan gutter press!

WC81 Qualifying Wrap Up

Postby Squornshelan Remnant States » Fri Sep 21, 2018 12:51 pm

Way More than Three Things: Qualifying in Review
Salwan Mynhier

Well, it's over. We gave it our best and finished pretty much where we predicted we would. There were a few surprises in terms of who finished around us and in what order though. The biggest surprise was Geisenfried. After returning to international football with a slowish start to qualifying, they went on an absolute tear to finish with 33 points, good enough for third in the group with them holding the tiebreaker over 95X. On the other hand, Vakolicci Haven and Celeria will surely be disappointed with their bottom half finish, seven points behind the Confederacy. Our own performance was strong overall. We picked up 9 points in matches against higher ranked teams, defeating Olastor, Vakolicci Haven and Celeria, and in one of the shock results of all of group 15, Qasden. While we can be proud of our team's effort, we also dropped a few points that we were really hoping to pick up, and it's tempting to think about little changes that could've seen us finish even higher.

With that in mind, here's three matches that could've swung things in our favor if they'd gone just a little differently:

Matchday 8: Dormill and Stiura 0-0 Squornshelan Remnant States
In terms of teams we theoretically should have beaten, this result has to be considered the worst of our entire qualifying. Our attack was unable to convert their chances against a team who managed only 8 points and a ninth place finish. Just one goal would've been enough to start what would become our mid-qualifying win streak a match early.

Matchday 2: Squornshelan Remant States 1-2 Olastor
Especially given Olastor's lackluster performance overall, and our convincing Matchday 11 victory against them, it stands out as disappointing that we couldn't even manage a draw with home field advantage. Coming away from this match with no points made our task that much more difficult at a very early stage.

Matchday 15: 95X 1-0 Squornshelan Remnant States
While taking points away from the 50th ranked team in their own house was a tall order, this match was a six point swing as we raced to the finish with 95X and Gesienfried. Even a draw here would've gone quite a long way toward letting the Black-and-Reds finish just a little higher.

Squornshelan Remnant States Qualifying Final Results:
MD1: Illahee 0-1 Squornshelan Remnant States
MD2: Squornshelan Remnant States 1-2 Olastor (Chalesm, Megabrantis, SRS)
MD3: The South Falls 2-3 Squornshelan Remnant States
MD4: Squornshelan Remnant States 2-0 Geisenfried (Brantisvogan, Megabrantis, SRS)
MD5: Pasarga 1-0 Squornshelan Remnant States (Stade de Torgos, Torgos, Pasarga)
MD6: Squornshelan Remnant States 1-2 95X (Damogran, Algolia, SRS)
MD7: Vakolicci Haven and Celeria 1-0 Squornshelan Remnant States
MD8: Dormill and Stiura 0-0 Squornshelan Remnant States
MD9: Squornshelan Remanant States 2-1 Qasden (Traal, East Flania, SRS)
MD10: Squornshelan Remnant States 4-0 Illahee (Han Dold City, Han Dold, SRS)
MD11: Olastor 0-2 Squornshelan Remnant States
MD12: Squornshelan Remnant States 3-0 The South Falls (Zarss, West Flania, SRS)
MD13: Geisenfried 0-0 Squornshelan Remnant States (Wilhelm-Rohm-Stadion, Darnesmark, Sudgoeke, Geisenfried)
MD14: Squornshelan Remnant States 1-3 Pasarga (Jaglan, Algolia, SRS)
MD15: 95X 1-0 Squornshelan Remnant States
MD16: Squornshelan Remnant States 2-1 Vakolicci Haven and Celeria (Yassaca, Sivolvia, SRS)
MD17: Squornshelan Remnant States 2-0 Dormill and Stiura (Lutenblag, Molvania, SRS)
MD18: Qasden 3-1 Squornshelan Remnant States (Hotchskarth Cabin, Destiny, Qasden)

As far as player performances, it was a bewildering, shifting cast as 41 different players made at least one appearance over the 18 matches of qualifying. 20 different players missed time as part of the poisoning incidents, which CPB spokespeople still will not comment on. Here are three players who surprised me, either in a positive or negative way:

Przemors Dzetker (ST, 29, Interblag FC): 5 Caps, 2G, 1A
Dzetker made a major statement regarding his omission from the top 23 by playing his way into the starting role for the second half of qualifying. While he will be 31 next cycle, if he keeps his club play level high, he could definitely be called up again. His two goal performance in the second half against The South Falls was the definition of impressive, as their defenders had no answer for him. He came back down to earth somewhat in his other appearances while facing higher quality opposition, but certainly showed that he can be more than a name on the reserve list.

Stovar Krieven (GK, 25, Interblag FC): 3 Caps, 0 Goals Against, 2.5 Clean Sheets
No goals were scored against the Black-and-Reds during the 125 minutes Krieven spent between the pipes. Had he not taken ill during the second poisoning incident, he would have played every match until Munib returned. Perhaps with his talents still available, we might have finished even higher. I would expect demand for Krieven on the transfer market to be very high, as he has a very bright future ahead of him. He could even challenge Munib for the starting role if he improves his instincts and positioning.

Zoban Ajao (ST, 22, Chalesm FC): 9 Caps, 3G, 0A
Ajao was somewhat inconsistent over the qualifying campaign, and the fact that playing as a target man he failed to record a single assist is somewhat of a shock. Too boot, one of his three goals was scored in the final match against Qasden, when (lets be honest) it really didn't matter anymore. He will need to find a way to be effective when his ream really needs it, even against world-class defending if he wants to keep his starting spot.

Stats and Impressions of other Players (Qualifying Only):

Goalkeepers:
Istaro Munib (GK, 27, Traal Athletics): 10 Caps, 12 Goals Against, 4 Clean Sheets
Played the first 9 and last 2 matches, missing the ones in between after being a victim of the Imperial poisoning plot. He put together several solid performances to keep the team in matches against superior opposition, and had allowed only 9 goals in 10 matches before letting in three against Qasden in the final match of qualifying.
Kinner Mustahil (GK, 25, Algolia AC): 3 Caps, 3 Goals Against, 1.5 Clean Sheets
Mustahil came on at halftime against The South Falls and completed the clean sheet that Krieven had begun. He kept another all on his own against Geisenfried, but looked out of sorts, allowing three against Pasarga in the next match.
Slater Jant (GK, 25, AC Damogran): 2 Caps, 2 Goals Against
He got the nod for Matchdays 15 and 16 against 95X and Vakolicci Haven and Celeria, allowing one goal in each match. A strong performance, but nothing spectacular.

Defenders:
Danin Geladi (LB, 24, Traal Athletics): 11 Caps, 0G, 3A
Geladi's best work came early in qualifying, when he notched one assist in the first match against Illahee, and two in matchday 3 against The South Falls. His scoring production dropped off after that, but he was a dependable player on the left side of defense and midfield.
Dymek Raktsov (CB, 24, Lublova Reds): 10 Caps, 0G, 0A, 2YC
Raktsov was a fairly solid presence in center defense, perhaps giving away a few too many free kicks, but generally doing a good job of containing opposing attackers.
Tervi Oleb (CB, 26, Traal Athletics): 12 Caps, 2G, 0A
The hero of the defense, whether creating offense from corner kicks or playing through being poisoned against Illahee in Matchday 10, Oleb was one of the stars of this team.
Zemen Ystrad (CB, 25, Olympia Arkintoofle): 9 Caps, 0G, 0A, 1YC, 1RC
The only member of the roster to be shown a red card, Ystrad was a somewhat volatile presence at the back, providing some intimidation for the defense against attackers who might too casually attempt to dribble past him.
Jinkzta Ulcviecel (RB, 26, Interblag FC): 10 Caps, 0G, 1A
Ulcviecel was dependable, but had a somewhat quiet run, statistically speaking. His play can definitely be said to have been better than it appears simply going by the numbers, and he showed good defensive responsibility while still contributing to the attacking build-up.
Janar Delu (RB, 23, Algolia AC): 9 Caps, 0G, 0A
An important replacement player when Ulcviecel was out sick, Delu was certainly not spectacular, but he played well, and was a definite contributor to the four straight clean sheets to begin the second half of qualifying.
Ctibor Tkermec (CB, 29, Interblag FC): 10 Caps 1G, 0A
When all three starting center backs were unavailable, Tkermec stepped up in a big way. He became the new anchor for the defense, and, combined with his Interblag teammate Dzrenin, acted as one of the leaders that held the team together through the second half of qualifying.
Rudi Dalso (CB, 23, aglan Royals): 2 Caps, 0G, 0A
No sooner did Dalso get a chance to play in the absence of the starters than he too was taken down. Luckily, at 23 he will have other opportunities to prove what he can do.
Djabgor Dzarkhin (LB, 24, Lublova Reds): 6 Caps, 0G, 0A
Dzarkhin was a capable substitute, and occasionally appeared ready to challenge Geladi for the starting role at left back. Like so many others, his qualifying campaign was disrupted by illness, but he will also be back again.
Maryl Antrobus (RB, 28, Traal Athletics): 2 Caps, 0G, 0A
Antrobus saw fairly limited action, and at his age, it is uncertain whether he will appear on another World Cup Roster.
Abdeg Darbo (CB, 31, Megabrantid SC): 5 Caps, 0G, 0A, 2YC
Darbo was one of the main players called upon to fill in at center back, and his work was serviceable. Like Antrobus, his age makes it uncertain whether he will have another opportunity.
Ortzi Perparim (CB, 27, Brantisvogan FC): 6 Caps, 0G, 0A
Another reserve center back thrust into action, Perparim acquitted himself well, and will certainly be getting looks for future national teams, or clubs looking to add a veteran to their back line.
Skumantas Nakhutin (CB, 24, Traal Athletics): 2 Caps, 0G, 0A, 1YC
Nakhutin saw action only as a substitute, so it is difficult to judge his performance, but with a name as cool as his, Squorn is sure to bring him back in future tournaments.
Koit Suharto (LB, 28, Jaglan Royals): 6 Caps, 0G, 0A
Suharto didn't always look his best in the appearances he made, but as the only remaining healthy left back after Geladi went down, some credit has to be given to him for courage under fire.

Midfielders:
Vaarin Strepol (CM, 26, Lublova Reds): 10 Caps, 2G, 0A, 2YC

Strepol looked fully recovered from his time out with injury during the Baptism of Fire, and while it was surprising that he didn't notch any assists, his two goals attest to the fact that he was definitely present in the attack on a regular basis.
Arlo Damot (CM, 29, Traal Athletics): 12 Caps, 3G, 5A, 1YC
The team captain lived up to his position, playing through being poisoned against Illahee, and leading all players in assists. His service from set pieces was particularly good, accounting for three of his assists.
Jzeovak Vladcik (LM, 21, Lublova Reds): 11 Caps, 3G, 1A
The young winger wasn't the dominant force he looked in the Baptism of Fire, but he played well enough to send fans across the country into daydreams of what he'll look like next time around, now that he has some international experience under his belt.
Eyob Zonde (RM, 27 Damogran FC): 12 Caps, 3G, 2A
While hampered by an ankle injury early on, Zonde was a huge factor in the second half of qualifying, where he was involved in almost every goal the depleted Black-and-Reds created.
Vrenz Tambura (RM, 22 AC Damogran): 7 Caps, 1G, 2A
Tambura redeemed himself somewhat from being benched during the BoF. He played well in relief of the injured Zonde, particularly in the first match against Geisenfried. He still definitely looked like a second option compared to Zonde, but he should be pleased with his performance overall.
Zholtokh Dzrenin (CM, 34, Interblag FC): 13 Caps, 2G, 4A
By virtue of avoiding being poisoned, Dzrenin went from being left off the BoF roster to the most capped Confederate player in qualifying. He effectively became acting captain while the starters were unavailable, and along with Tkermec and Zonde, was one of the leaders both on and off the field.
Yideg Abhe (CM, 26, Viltvodle United): 2 Caps, 0G, 0A
Abhe was another player unfortunate to be poisoned before he really had a chance to show what he could do on the field.
Shrike Hagaz (CM, 24, Chalesm FC): 3 Caps, 0G, 0A, 1YC
After featuring in four of six BoF matches filling in for the injured Strepol, Hagaz was somewhat of a footnote in qualifying, upstaged by the veteran leadership and attacking prowess of Dzrenin. Still he looked his usual combative self in the few appearances that he did make, and one would expect him to remain a feature on future rosters.
Gezan Djanetic (LM, 26, Interblag FC): 1 Cap, 0G, 0A
Between being stuck behind Vladcik on the depth chart, and poisoned before Matchday 10, Djanetic had a frustrating and unfortunate qualifying campaign. He'll need to perform well over the next couple years if he wants his name called again for World Cup 82.
Danin Stolp (CM, 20, Algolia AC): 1 Cap, 0G, 0A
Stolp's youth likely counted against him in Lopal Daror's eyes. While he probably would have given younger players a chance to play sheltered minutes as substitutes, he did not seem to fully trust their lack of experience when cobbling together his lineups during the second half. Stolp's day will come, however, as long as he continues to play well for his club.
Polter Yndel (RM, 22, Olympia Arkintoofle): 1 Cap, 0G, 0A
A similar story to Stolp, Yndel was upstaged by the more experienced Tudan Povarnin for the few opportunities to play in relief of Zonde during the second half of qualifying.
Doron Aldra (Traal Athletics): 3 Caps, 0G, 0A
When comparing Aldra with Stolp, one has to wonder if one being one year older really makes a difference, or if Daror was going with a more known quality in choosing one of his own players from Traal more often. Possible favoritism aside, Aldra played well enough to earn as much time beside Dzrenin at center mid as anyone.
Ozol Gebara (LM, 27, Viltvodle City): 7 Caps, 0G, 2A
Like Suharto, Gebara was thrust into the spotlight as the only available left midfielder. He played very well, given the circumstances, and will look to challenge Djanetic for a spot in the top 23 next cycle.
Ramaz Dolnight (CM, 25, Damogran FC): 3 Caps, 0G, 1A
The closest thing Daror found to a replacement for Strepol at center mid, Dolnight did manage to notch one assist, but was fairly lackluster next to Dzrenin. He'll be fighting off a host of young center midfielders to keep his apparent position at sixth on the depth chart.
Jirar Lomidan (CM, 23, FC Yassaca): 1 Cap, 0G, 0A
Another center midfield option that Daror experimented with, like the rest of the youngsters at this position he'll be playing with a lot to prove over the next two years.
Iuri Takala (CM, 20, Megabrantid SC): 1 Cap, 0G, 0A
Likewise, likewise, and likewise. Takala's story is more or less the same as that of Stolp, Yndel, Lomidan, and Aldra. From among these five will emerge the future center midfielders that will lead this team years from now, it simply remains to be seen which of them it will be.
Tudan Povarnin (RM, 27, FC Syneca): 2 Caps, 0G, 0A
A late addition to the roster, Povarnin banked on his experience and the way he led his club to the Confederacy Cup semifinal to earn playing time. Not a whole lot of playing time, mind, but he looked capable in his two appearances, and if his star continues to rise, could see his name move further up the depth chart to challenge Tambura.

Strikers:
Demkjo Jzvanic (ST, 27, Lublova Reds): 8 Caps, 3G, 2A
Jzvanic made a real case for himself as the future starter at striker, and will only be 29 for World Cup 82. The competition between him and Ajao for playing time should be fierce, and may even necessitate a change in formations to accommodate both of them.
Girma Mikhulat (ST, 26, Brantisvogan FC): 2 Caps, 0G, 1A
Mikhulat falls into the category of players poisoned before they had a real chance, but he definitely looked good in his limited time. Whether that will be enough to see off the challenge of the reserve strikers next cycle remains to be seen.
Hakan Gryspos (ST, 24, Damogran FC): 1 Cap, 0G, 0A
The only appearance Gryspos made was something of a disaster, as he was largely invisible, and replaced at halftime by Dzetker, who proceeded to score twice. He has a lot of work to do if he wants his name to be called again in two years.
Kambiz Avagyan (ST, 25, Viltvodle City): 2 Caps, 0G, 0A
Avagyan made a couple fairly forgettable appearances and will need to play very well to earn future callups.

Positives for East Belzaria despite defeat

Postby East Belzaria » Fri Sep 21, 2018 11:29 pm

East Belzaria fell victim to a 1-0 loss to Penguinland on the final matchday, which saw them drop to 6th place in the group. But all their coaching staff have praised the national team which managed to win 28 points across the 18 games. The Group 10 finale was chaotic, as the Equestrian States secured narrow qualification to the World Cup ahead of Garifunya. However, it was Saltstead that qualified for the playoffs after Garifunya ceased to exist that same day.

When asked what was next for the East Belzarians, David Madridson had a few words to say. "Well, we'll be very interested in seeing how Saltstead and Equestrian States do now that they're out of the group." When asked if East Belzaria would compete again, Madridson said "Yes, they most certainly will." Our final question for David was regarding his future. He said "I'm not going anywhere. I intend to be here for the next World Cup campaign. But for now, my focus is to perform well the Kriosian Belt Championship."

East Belzaria and their FA have confirmed that they will be entering the next World Cup Qualifying sequence. As for now, they will be hosting the Kriosian Belt Championship. Who knows what they'll bring to the World Cup 82 qualifiers, but if Monte stays in form, and Lopez keeps defending effectivley, they might just get over the line.

(After the match)

“Sometimes, you got to do it!” Lupe Enriquez told Hannah Ranucci as the team celebrated their dramatic 2-1 victory over Tinhampton despite being a player down for most of the second half, due to Enriquez punching Steve Cameron in the face for no apparent reason in the 66th minute. She was officially booked in the 68th for those keeping score because the ref seemed to need to confirm with a linesman as to what happened.

“At times like that, I am glad I traveled to Ceni to play domestic soccer.” Ranucci laughed, “That way I don’t have to worry about you doing that to me. Don’t know how the ref saw it though, but we made amends.”

“They were getting desperate, I think. That Cameron, guy. Well, I guess he might have a concussion from it. That would be the second time. But as you know we have to be tough to play against it.” Enriquez replied, “As for the ref, I think it was because he laid on the ground for a while and then tried to play. There was a minute and a half or so delay before I got the card, so I don’t think he actually saw it, I think a linesman told him.”

“Well, like I said, I am just glad to never be on the receiving end, although I might be coming back to play in Cassadaigua.” Ranucci replied.

“It was the right time. Ashley Crocker can play in place of me for a game and we’ll be fine, I’m sure. Do we know who we’re playing yet?” Enriquez asked.

“I heard that it might be Abanhfleft, which would be tough, but because of issues with Gairfunya, and the nation vanishing into the night, we’ll be playing Acronius. Remember playing them in qualifying in World Cup 79.” Ranucci replied.

“I remember watching that!” Enriquez replied.

“Well, we qualified in 79, so we can keep that in common with qualifying here, too if we advance. Don’t worry about the red card suspension, we’ll step it up for you.” Ranucci stated.

“As long as its Ashley and not Carlos!” Enriquez laughed.

“Not Carlos, don’t worry. Perhaps a typographical error might have occurred in another media source out of Tinhampton and didn’t notice that it was Hannah Shanley there and not him, but I know coach won’t go back with him. He wants to quit the team anyway. We’re going so good right now that the last thing the coach wants to do is add a little more controversy.” Ranucci stated, with a smile.

“You know its funny, some might have though we were on the verge of a locker room meltdown, but Kristen really changed things. It’s as if that push of Carlos in the Brenecia match was the best thing that happened for us. Got Shanley in the lineup, and all seemed well.” Enriquez replied.

“I know, right. Just behave yourself in the press box so we get you in the second leg of that match. We’re so close we can taste it, but still a lot more work to do.” Ranucci replied.

“Easier to behave myself in the press box.” Enriquez replied. In then, walked coach Stephanie Sweeney.

“Lupe, you could have cost us. But at the same time, I loved it, I must admit. That is what makes you, you. I love that we are considered hard to play against. Big win tonight!”

Now that the excitement of Cassadaigua’s 2-1 victory in the showdown over Tinhampton has settled in, the team now knows that it was indeed just one game, and they must face a side in Acronius that is eager to make the World Cup for the first time. Cassadaigua is considered the favorite in this aggregate fixture, given a much better record, and narrowly missing the automatic spots for second place teams. The experience of having been in the World Cup before, even for the current squad and not our past great squads will be very helpful.

As we look at the nation of Acronius, we see a team that finished 10-3-5 in Group 7, placing second, and perhaps a case would be made that they finished second because, “someone had too” as opposed to them impressing many people. They finished with the worst record of any of the second place teams in qualifying, and are drawn against Cassadaigua because third place Saltstead was given the final qualifying spot as the second place team in their group is no longer in existence. That must have been hard on those Garifunya players, they play hard, think they make the tournament, then find out their nation no longer exists, and therefore, their successes also no longer exist. Saltstead is the bottom seed of the eight playoff fixtures, and they get the top-seeded Drawk Corps from Drawkland. Acronius was seeded just ahead of them, and draws us. Therefore, you can see why Cassadaigua is considered a heavy favorite to advance, but we cannot be thinking it is a formality. Games are played on the pitch, and not on the stat sheets.

Acronius is located in a region known as Renegade Islands Alliance, so it is not in one of the main sporting regions. That has not stopped them from rising in the ranks, to their current spot of #45. Therefore, they were not too far behind us at the start of the competition, which means they will give us a more competitive couple matches then we may want to be having, despite their relatively low point total. Unlike Tinhampton, who likes to sit back on defense, Acronius is a highly aggressive offensive side. The Blue Boys, as they known by, not surprisingly boast an all-male roster. Their home stadium is the 80,000 seat Union Park in the national capital of Lionsgate, and the fans figure to sell the place out quickly with some help of a traveling Cassadagan faithful.

Cassadaigua and Acronius played in the same qualifying group in World Cup 79, which makes for a nice parallel for this World Cup, since that was the cup that Cassadaigua qualified too. Acronius, however, was never the top threat in the group. They were ranked 46th then, so there has not been much change with that over the years, and were the pot 3 team. Cassadaigua, then a pot 6 team, qualified out of that group along with Ethane, leaving the Pot 1 team, Valladares to not be part of the field. The Acronius lineup is virtually identical to the roster in World Cup 79, and when reading information about the players, you may feel like you read the same exact thing about them back in your World Cup 79 programs, if you still have them. Despite their inability to qualify for the world cup, it is impressive how the nation sticks with the same group of players, and perhaps this Cup will be a case of persistence paying off. About the opponent, Sweeney says, “Even though there is much about their roster that is still the same from when we played them in qualifying two cycles ago. One thing that has changed about the team, is their manager, and he has employed a far more explosive attack system.” The red card suspension of Lupe Enriquez could seem to hurt, but the Fillies will insert Ashley Crocker into that spot. The defensive stalwarts Jessica Curran and Chelsea Blake are still back there, and will have no problem leading the defense. Kristen Speller has played outstanding since “push-gate” against Brenecia.

Jessica Curran, the captain of the backfield told us that, “We know they are aggressive in mentality. We’ll be ready, those are the teams you love to play against as a defender because they really test you. They give you a chance to show what you can do as well, and if we can answer their attacks, I think we will get more respect as a defense, and less people will be looking at what happened against Brenecia (a 6-2 loss).” Goalkeeper Kristen Speller says that things are indeed, much different now then they were against Brenecia, “Ever since that loss, we have been on a roll. We won our final eight games of qualifying, and that’s why we are in this position now to qualify out of the playoff, and be able to be one of the final thirty-two.”

The winner of the playoff goes to the World Cup, while the loser hopes for a Cup of Harmony invite. We may still see the Cup of Harmony in Cassadaigua, but from a hosting perspective. There were no other bids for the Cup of Harmony besides our bid with Equestrian States, and the World Cup Committee is presently voting on our bid at this time. By the end of the second leg of this fixture, we should know the fate of our bid.

Determination

"Keller Harrington?! Is that you?" The Leader yelled over the intercom, as he was checking a monitor inside his office, where links to a security camera outside in the room before it. "Relax. I came, since you were feeling a bit down. And because Jones is forcing me to visit." Keller Harrington said, as she was visible on camera near Emmanuel Jones. "Alright, come on in. Only Harrington!" the Leader yelled on the intercom, as the doors were opened for Harrington, as Jones was forced to stay out of the office. "You look like a mess, you know that?" Harrington said, as the Leader seemed to have not slept after what happened. "Oh please, I don't need to sleep. It's for the weak."

"That isn't healthy." Keller remarked, making sure the Leader didn't attempt to kill her.
"What's the point, when life is truly a bitch, isn't it?" The Leader said in a tone of frustration and intentionally dry humor.
"You're behaving like a misanthropic. Are you just going to lose hope in humanity?"
"I lost faith, hope and whatever the hell you would say in humanity a long time ago. It was me being reminded of this was when I starting to feel regret for once!"
"What about your people? You rule over them. You practically make sure that you can have them suffer worst than you!"
"They had something that I don't have, which places me at the bottom of them."
"Don't be so self-centered-"
"I used the machine!" The Leader spurted out, where Keller seemed to understand what he meant.

"I didn't use it. Even if I saw my own prediction, I would just ignore it. I would be surprised, if it told me something that would threaten us all. Of course, we simply went a bit too far with it. It's a common mistake, but it can be resolved. Yet, I'm starting to see what you gotten. And you know what? Whatever you gotten is something that would scare me." Keller said, where the Leader started to wrap his arms over his head and rested his head against his own desk. Keller could have just get his revenge. He was completely defenseless, until she realized something. He wants her to help him. "Ah, I see." Keller said, trying to find some emotion from the Leader. "You do realize you could have lied about being happy. Then again, you probably lied everyday. I'm simply trying to get you back on track. You can't disappoint the public like this." Keller continued, trying to sympathize towards the Leader. However, he seemed to be ignoring her.

Then, an idea popped in her mind. She remembered what the Leader did with her back with Richard.

"You being a deserter, aren't you?" Keller said, which caused the Leader to raise his head at that statement. "What did you say?" The Leader looked mad, but it was clearly working. "You're a mess right now, because you don't want to be the Leader! You're forgetting what made you you!" Keller said, where the Leader said this, while looking mad, "I can change this whole government, if I want! I can get rid of this autocracy and probably had someone be in my shoes for once!" Keller decided to push forward and took a step closer to the Leader. "You don't get it! You have been ignoring a solution that had arose over that prediction, you gotten! Here's what I'm saying that you don't even want to understand!"
Image
"You're ignoring that even though that you gotten your prediction, it showed you what you can use all of the time for! The machine was never supposed to be used for something harmful, even though it was clearly shown to be of that area! You don't have to reveal your prediction, but you need to still be strong! You wanted me to be strong for once, yet I'm still feel guilty, even if it wasn't my fault! What I want you to know is that even though you and I are human beings, we can still live on! Even if something is bound to happen, we can still enjoy the positives of things!" Keller said to the Leader, who put a hand over his face, taking a deep breath.

"I guess you're right. But I already know how to solve this." The Leader said, opening a drawer in his desk, revealing a syringe with an unknown liquid. "I'm sorry, but I think it's better to use the sledgehammer, than the scalpel!" The Leader yelled, as Keller tried to prevent him from using it, but it was too late. The Leader used the syringe, jabbing it on his neck, so the amnestic can enter his body. The Leader passed out in front of Keller, where she nearly panicked, before she checked his pulse. "Damn it! What is Jones going to do when I walk out?!" Keller ran out of the office to alarm the guards.

Keller thought they were going to arrest her, thinking she was trying to kill the Leader, until they saw the syringe and check his vital signs. "Looks like you're in the clear, Ms. Harrington. It's best to leave, while we get things on track." one of the guards said, while putting the Leader in a proper position at his chair. "Wait, you're not going to take him to a hospital or anything?" Keller asked, while Jones walked into the room. "What happened in here?" Jones demanded in a clear manner, where he picked up the syringe. "What is going on here? Why are you people so calm about this?" Keller was confused, until Jones was trying the syringe to dispose of it. "Relax. The Leader done this stuff before. He's a trained professional when it comes to this stuff." "So what? You just going to let him forget?" "Yeah, what do you expect?" Jones said, where Keller decided to walk out of the room.

Keller Harrington exited the government building, having her and the Leader learning nothing from the experience. "Well. Life is supposed to horrible, but I guess I just head home now." Keller thought, as she called for a cab to return her home.

Eshan v|s Indusse

Who will win?

Indusse has a chance to win because eshan hasn't rped for a long time it was in last 5th. If he wins it is utter cheating and it contradicts the NS sport law of roleplay.

‭Ashok Walia, Jai Mauryan, and Sarang Lotsawa were sitting together at a sidewalk cafe in Kathmandu, three bowls of noodles steaming on the table between them. They had won their last game of the World Cup Qualifiers, but it didn't matter. It felt nice to go out on a high note, but it wasn't enough to get them into the playoffs. Lotsawa was explaining that he couldn't talk about why the Ministry of Defense had taken him in for questioning. Mauryan slurped his noodles and listened. Walia was half-listening, but mostly his attention was focused on his phone.

‭"Oh, my GOD!" Walia blurted out, interrupting Lotsawa in the middle of a sentence. "Why do all the worst RPers take all the good nation names?"

‭"Ashok, what did I tell you about NationStates?" said Mauryan. "None of us play it except you, and we really don't care."

‭Walia gave him a dirty look. "This guy named his nation Indusse and he's barely even RPing! Do you know how hard it is to get the names of real countries? There's probably lots of people that want the name Indusse, especially in the Sports forum, since they've got such a good football team, and they can't use the name because this guy has it. And this is what he posts!"

‭He tried to show the screen to Mauryan, but Mauryan pushed it away. "I really don't care."

‭Walia put the phone down and sulked in his seat. "Two sentences, it doesn't even make sense, and he's accusing someone of cheating for no reason! And that idiot that took 'The Sherpa Empire' is rambling about some dude cloning the Butcher of Bigtopia..."

‭"I doooooon't caaaaaaare," Mauryan insisted.

‭"Hey, Ashok," said Lotsawa. "Remember how you thought that person that took the name 'the Sherpa Empire' might be posting government secrets? If they are, it means they're a high-ranking government official. You should probably be careful what you say about them. I mean, I don't play that game, so I don't know if they're an idiot; but even if they are, you should be careful what you say."

‭Walia glanced at his phone. "You think this idiot has a security clearance?"

‭Lotsawa shrugged.

‭"That's a scary thought!"

his majesty scrambles to put reality back together after indusseans leak “reallife” conspiracy
the multiverse is slowly falling apart and only the furious keyboard-beating madness of his majesty the king of saltstead can save us from the brink

Image
the truth is uncovered

new hind city, indusse — imagine waking up one day to suddenly find that the reality you once thought was reality was not reality. that is the reality that is now real for us.

we think.

okay, we don’t know anything anymore after having our minds blown so comprehensively by the indussean press, who have leaked a conspiracy so grand, that it apparently explains why all the royal sport complex in ashwell has a rubber chicken factory. we initially didn’t believe it at first, but then we searched the web for hours and found dark pits of the internet that explained to us exactly what is going on: this world of ours is apparently all a work of fiction created on a website that was developed as a marketing gimmick for a dystopian novel.

crazy, we know, but it is as true as the sky being blue or the merciful violet blessing us all by not killing us in a ball of fiery fire. apparently, we are all simply characters in long works of prose called “rps” (short for “roleplays”) written by people who are generally referred to as “nerds”. these are then scored and used as sacrifices to a machine that spits out numbers that happen to match the results of every world cup committee and regional championship match ever played. it is said that there is an unwritten rule that these nerds must post rps to a “thread” on a “board” on a website called “nationstates” for the nation under their control to win a match, but a representative from the royal house of saltstead has told us this is a myth.

“some of these people seriously misunderstand how it works,” the low-ranking peasant told the beet. “if his majesty posts one of these messages, it gives the nation of saltstead a better chance of winning our matches, but it doesn’t guarantee it. it’s part sacrifice, part past performance, part random numbers. margaret is just a name that they give to randomness.”

we were intrigued by the implication that his majesty the king was posting these messages. the perception that the monarch was actually a powerful figure beyond our comprehension was something that none of us could have ever imagined.

“the king is really just an avatar for the guy who pulls the strings of saltstead from his keyboard. he is actually some random man living in his parents’ home and studying at the local college. if it happens here, it’s actually because of him, but we all just maintain a kabuki ruse of having a constitutional monarchy. it looks better when he has his whims and decides to change policies for the hell of it. i presume that once the current king gets bored, he’ll abdicate, someone else will take over as king and they’ll start making all the decisions. don’t quote me on that, though.

“and to explain why we were struggling so badly in qualifying, a storm actually hit his house and cut off the power and internet for a few days, so he couldn’t post these messages. he didn’t appease the machines, but we saltsteaders were ranked high enough that we still won some of our matches. his majesty is okay now, though, so everything should be getting back to normal shortly.”

so what of garifunya’s disqualification we asked?

“if someone doesn’t log in to the site for about a month, the nation under their control gets purged from the site’s database. that’s why garifunya doesn’t exist anymore. nobody really saw that coming, though, so that’s how we slipped through the cracks.”

and then we had just one more question: would it really be cheating if eshan beat indusse.

“that’s total bollocks. you can never say for certain, but eshan should totally have this wrapped up. they are in a league of their own. eshan could probably blow three-quarters of the world cup qualification field out of the water with three sentences and a gluten-free weed scone.”

some other things we learned are that omerica is also secretly controlled by his majesty, valanora isn’t actually run by elves, the sherpa empire is part of a vast syndicate with a steamboat and a deadly virus and kita-hinode really hates cricket. (well, we already kind of knew that, but this is on an entirely different level.) one thing you can take refuge in as being absolutely true, though: brenecia is still just off-brand nephara.

but if you are concerned at all about the continued existence of our world, don’t fret: we can personally assure you that his majesty is furiously typing away as we speak, trying to set things right. as the royal anthem goes: god save king william! —tb

Prices Soar As Crack Crisis Deepens

Brayan Borrado reports;

Prices of cements, plaster, resin and other assorted filling agents have rocketed as an unprecedented shortage of such items has rocked the nation. The shelves at supermarkets, DIY stores and builder’s merchants alike have been totally cleaned out, entire building products have ground to a halt and the government has ordered cement factories into twenty-four-hour action in an effort to stem the crisis.

A crisis that began in the early hours of Sunday morning, local Branta Time, when across the nation every structure with four or more walls suddenly experienced severe crackage. ‘It’s the darndest thing’, Goza resident Alejandro Bertrán told this publication. ‘I was minding my own business watching Red Light Stories on Globo 5 when this sound started. It was a bit like a strange whining. And then, and this is the really strange bit. A big crack just appeared in my wall. That one there. The fourth one.’

It is a scene that has been repeated up and down and across and back up the land. Everywhere fourth walls have been well and truly cracked. Bleary eyed scientists, woken in the middle of the night to answer questions from the media, believe they have located the source of this bizarre fourth wall crackage. ‘As you can see on the screen of this unspecified and plot convenient piece of equipment’, Professor Rafael Alberto of the Seismology Department at the University of Torreón explained. ‘As you can see. The early hours of Sunday saw a large wave of invisible energy hit Rushmore. It appears, according to this unspecified and plot convenient piece of equipment, to have emanated from somewhere in the region of India. We're calling it a Forca Wave. Unfortunately this seems to have been a pretty big Forca.’

A state of rationing has been introduced on all filling agents as the public desperately seek a solution to their fourth wall cracks. Paper has proven a popular choice, meaning that it’s not just the national football team who are seeking to paper over the cracks. Amirite? Citizens have also taken to the streets to demand answers from the government during this unprecedented crisis. For their part the Presidential Palace has issued a statement insisting that there is every cause to be alarmed. ‘I mean’, spokesman Carlos Alverado exclaimed. ‘Wouldn’t you be?’

Eccentric dog grooming heiress Maria Escudera, whose triangular mansion had long been the source of ridicule, is the only one that doesn’t see what all the fuss is about. ‘I don’t see what all the fuss is about’, she said.

Jungle Cats close out Unbeaten Campaign atop Group 13

Zoloroni Sports City Stadium, Zoloroni, Mercedini :: The Vilita National Team headed off to the prosperous capital of Mercedini for the final match of their World Cup 81 Qualification Campaign. It was a matchup that the Cosumarite Courier highlighted as the #2 most interesting fixture of the final matchday of qualification, second only to the winner-take-all Group 16 clash between Tinhampton and Cassadaigua that would see one nation moving on to the playoffs and the other eliminated after the 90 minutes were up. As for Group 13, the matchup between Vilita and Mercedini had promised to have it all on the line. Top spot in the group on the line with the prize being a confirmed ticket to the World Cup 81 finals in Banija and the Free Republics. It would have seemed that the stakes couldn't have been any higher. However, just as the build up to the match was ready to reach a fever pitch, the situation unfolded on the penultimate day of qualification that both Vilita and Mercedini had already guaranteed their place in the World Cup 81 Finals. No matter who won the big clash in Zoloroni, no matter by how many goals, no matter who finished first or who finished second in the group. No matter what the scenario, both Vilita and Mercedini would be moving on to the World Cup Finals. If World Cup 77 is anything to go off of, they would likely get a chance to play some more matches against each other in the group stage.

Even if Mercedini lost to Vilita, they would have enough of a mathematical cushion that they could not fall out of the top three unbeaten teams ensuring neither team could miss out on the World Cup Finals completely. This fact ultimately meant that while top spot in Group 13 was technically still up for grabs, it no longer had any meaning. There was no trophy with 'Group 13 Champions' etched onto it, there was no financial reward. The grand prize awarded to the champion of Group 13 was nothing more than a guaranteed spot in the World Cup 81 finals in Banija and the Free Republics - and this was something that both teams already had.

As a result, instead of a World Cup knockout round caliber roster both teams made some interesting and unexpected changes worthy of the lacklustre level of importance of a match that seemed to be sucked of its soul right at the last moment. For the Vilita National Team it was the surprising decision that Makosile United goalkeeper Maratopa Inita-Arua would start the match in goal, making their first appearance of the World Cup 81 qualification campaign and making their first start for the Vilita National Team since donning the gloves against Darkmania on matchday 10 of the World Cup 80 Qualifiers.

There was still pomp and circumstance in the lead up to the kick off with the players being escorted out of the tunnel by local U-9 players donning full Mercedini kits. The tykes were reportedly very talented and would be coming on to put on a show for the home fans during the days festivities.

While the home side got on the board earl to take a 1-0 lead, the Jungle Cats found their groove as the first half progressed and ultimately found the back of the net three times through Va'a-Rio Kiwavn, Limu Katarakhna and Cavuna Aquafek giving the team some confidence heading into the break.

Mercedini regrouped and swapped out some personnel giving them a spark to start the second half and pulling a goal back but with less than 20 minutes to play, Vilitan substitute attacker Tenziki Kulakao scored their fifth goal of the campaign to stretch the Jungle Cats advantage before Westii Yahaya finished things off with a 75th minute free kick as the Vilita National Team would seal up a 5-2 victory, claiming with it the top position in Group 13 and a fifty-point qualification haul, their first such performance in the modern era.

The 50 points scored in the World Cup 81 qualification campaign by the Vilitan National Team were second most amongst all nations - a handful of nations including Eura, Ethane, Pasarga and Nephara finishes out their campaign with 51 points having won seventeen matches and lost one. The Jungle Cats only won sixteen of their matches but would join South Covello and Chromatika as the only teams to last the distance unbeaten.

The two goals that the Vilita National Team conceded to Mercedini on Matchday eighteen were not completely without impact as they allowed the 26th ranked Golden Eagles stay stay ahead of the Jungle Cats on total goals scored over the eighteen match qualification campaign. Mercedini - second in Group 13 - finished with 63 goals scored, exactly two more than Vilita who with five goals on the final matchday ended the campaign with 61 goals scored atop Group 13. The only other nation in the multiverse to net at least 60 goals during the World Cup 81 qualifiers was The Holy Empire who scored exactly 60.

Peeto Korol' is a club which plays in the Polkopian Premier League. At the end of the last season, the vipers finished in 3rd place and continue to play in the top flight of Polkopian football for the upcoming season. The team currently plays in the city of Peeto, and their home ground is the Ilažske Arena, which seats up to 53,149 spectators.

History:

Peeto Korol' was founded in 1932 and was the second club to be founded in Peeto. Peeto Korol's first season happened to be the first season of the Premier League, which replaced the First Division in 1932. In its first 10 years as a club, Peeto Korol' managed to win an astonishing 7 titles before the outbreak of the Second World War in Polkopia, and immediately brought a passionate football fanbase to Polkopia's capital city.

From 1942 until 1946, the Premier League was put on hold during the Second World War, but after 1946, Peeto Korol' did not generate the same results as before. This is largely due to the Polkopian government forcibly conscripting Polkopia's males, and several of Peeto Korol's star players ended up perishing during the war. The second half of the 1940's and the 1950's were troublesome times for Peeto Korol', as the club only managed to finish above fifth place on one occasion (1952) and otherwise averaged 7th place out of 10 teams in the league,

In the 1960's, Peeto Korol' won their first title since 1941, winning in 1965, but the following year saw Peeto Korol' relegated to the Second Division, where it remained until 1969. From 1970 onward, Peeto Korol' managed to stay in the Premier League and avoid relegation. In 1979, Peeto Korol's head coach, Yuri Kalparin, left the club to coach the Polkopian National Team and was replaced by Denis Rabotsev. In 1981, Rabotsev won his first title for Peeto Korol', but died the following year due to a drug overdose.

The 1990's saw a period of moderate success for Peeto Korol', as the club managed to finish top 5 in six seasons, although never won a title in this time. Their next and last title win wouldn't be until 2004 after a 2-0 victory over rivals Peeto Gordost' in the last week sealed the club's victory.

In 2015, the club was disbanded, along with the other Polkopian clubs, due to a large-scale corruption scandal across the entirety of the PFA. The club was reestablished the following year and Peeto Korol' participated in the 2017-18 Polkopian Premier League, finishing 6th out of 16 teams.

Lucas Cable regained consciousness, the overly-bright world around him slowly coming into focus as he squinted painfully. The last thing he could remember - in fact, what could he remember? He knew who he was - Lucas Cable, Starblaydi international goalkeeper and 'Best in the World'. He couldn't remember where he lived, who old he was, or even when his next match would be.

"Lucas," the voice said, "how are you feeling?"

It was a man's voice, one he vaguely remembered hearing speaking to him directly once, but mostly this was familiar from TV interviews and adverts. Lucas turned his head to face the speaker, and suddenly everything fell into place.

"I seem to remember," the voice and face continued, "the last time we shook hands you spaced out a little bit, but not quite like that."

"The last time we shook hands, Simeone," Lucas said, "is the whole reason I'm here right now, isn't it?"

"Normally that'd be canny perceptive of ye," came a second voice, this one obviously a Dwarf, "but yer a wee bit special, aren't ye laddie?"

Lucas murmured his confirmation of the fact, and sat up on the couch he had been placed on, propping himself up on his elbows. There was the soft sound of the gentlest rattling of cups and fine china as a third person entered the room, tall and lean and graceful, unmistakably Starblaydia's all-time appearance maker, the elven Azewyn Feanaro.

"When you're feeling up to it," she said, "we'll need to ask you some questions."

"Oh," Lucas said quickly, "I think I can answer them right now, even though I'm still not entirely sure where I am."

"Or when." Dalnir said, a little too theatrically as Azeywn put the tray of drinks down with barely a chink of the cups.

"I'm not sure that entirely matters, does it?" Lucas asked by way of reply. "Two of you are ageless, and I've never seen you before, Master Dwarf."

"Aye," the Dwarf said, "call me Dalnir."

"Well met, Dalnir," Lucas said, "and Azewyn, and Simeone, too. I presume I'm Lucas Cable, or some kind of representation thereof; it's all starting to make sense now."

"As long as it does for somebody," Simeone said, not entirely joking.

"I never did quite understand what I'd seen when I met you the first time, Simeone," Lucas said, recalling their meeting at the draw for the Finals of World Cup 67, "when we shook hands, I always thought that it was something to do with my abilities meeting a Dreamed Realm, um, inhabitant that was the issue - why I 'spaced out', as you put it - seeing all these possible futures."

"You saw things when we shook hands?" Simeone asked.

"Yes," Lucas nodded, "and it's only coming into focus now that it wasn't my or your future, like normal. It was more like timelines, mirrors of you in scores, maybe hundreds of different branches of possibility. I still haven't worked out what is going on with me, but I know that I'm not exactly me. Maybe a reflection, or and echo."

"A dream," Dalnir said, "let's put it that way."

"That..." Lucas thought for a moment, "makes as much sense as anything other explanation, so why not? All I know is there is, or maybe was, an oncoming darkness trying to crush all of us under its heel, and you're the key to stop it."

Lucas stared straight at Simeone. This wasn't unusual for the great former-Starblaydi, current-Holy Empire player-coach, he'd been saving either the world or the multiverse on a semi-regular basis for the past- well, time was meaningless in the Dreamed Realm, but for the past rather a long time.

"What can you tell us about how we can defeat this darkness?" Azewyn asked, deliberately avoiding saying Viannor's name, and the explanation that would have needed of how she came to power. Besides, the real Lucas Cable, before he died, had already warned Simeone about Viannor, and Azewyn particularly didn't want to go over Lucas' own ideas with this reflection of his spirit.

"The clearest image in my mind," Lucas said, "is that of a great black portal and, beside it, a sturdy table that has six golden, shining trumpets sitting on it. Perhaps not trumpets, exactly, more like trombones, really, but they're not musical instruments, they're tools. Maybe even weapons."

Dalnir shifted from one foot to the other anxiously, tugging at the edges of his shocked white beard.

"Dalnir," Azewyn said, narrowing her eyes, "what is it?"

"Ah were thinkin'," Dalnir began, "that t'way t'get rid of a vampire is to put it in the sun. But what if ye don't got the sun? Ye need to bring it to them. So ye blast 'em with all the complosite rays and that."

"But UV light isn't want kills the Assington Vampire," Azewyn countered, "it's something magical, for want of a better word, imbued in the sun's rays themselves that heats them to the point of combustion. UV light itself was tried and tested on them - torches, grenades, all sorts. Nothing worked."

"Aye, exactly," Dalnir said, "which is why I'm, um, I'm bringing the sun tae us."

"But you said six," Simeone cut in, "six of these things. Even with all of us we're only four. Who else was there?"

"One would be my wife, Keira" Lucas said, "she's always the run and gun adventurer type. I appreciate Azewyn likely has an understanding of elven warfare going back millennia, and Simeone your 'Forza Starblaydi' cavalry charge episode in the middle of the World Cup Final is well known."

"I'd always wondered quite where you disappeared to in that battle," Azewyn smirked.

"And the sixth?" Simeone again ignored the side track that would take more time to explain that the impact a successful reference would have on the conversation."

"For number six," Lucas said, "you need someone who's shot at our target before."

World Cup 81 - The Road to FR/Banija

CLOSE... BUT NO CIGAR
Turori 5-3 New Lusitania

New Lusitania travelled yet again, this time, to play leaders Turori, in what would be one of the most important matches in the entire qualification - a win would put them closer to the opposition, a defeat would blow it wide open between them, Beepee and possibly Valladares (but not likely) to qualify for that important spot. The game started with Turori opening it up immediately, the goalkeeper had no chance, but the defence... They were still thinking about yesterday! However, Turori wanted to secure that all important first place for good - and they had it, at thirty minutes. Team captain Nevais wasn't giving up, and the team understood this pushing toward a first goal. Nevais orchestrated it passing to Gama who crossed it in to Jota. Stunning teamwork. A second one came, this time from Gama's pure brilliance. Halftime and an amazing 2-2 draw.
The second half saw a free kick conceded by Turori, scored by the master of them, Nevais. The opposition managed to respond by scoring a third equaliser. Handball in the New Lusitania area meant that the home side had the chance to stay ahead, which they did, with a beautiful penalty conversion. Silveira had put the ball in the net later on, but was caught offside much to the liking of the crowd and the irritation of the away side. At ninety minutes, Turori had the chance to put the goal in the net one last time. In the end, Turori took the three points but both ended up destroying their great defensive record.
FULL TIME : 5-3

ALMOST TOUCHING THE STARS
New Lusitania 4-0 Petrovskia @ Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, Coimbra

After the defeat to Truori, it was imperative to win against Petrovskia or face the consequences of falling to third with one game to go. For this reason alone, no team experiments were used in the game against Petrovskia. The stadium at three quarters capacity, and the match was underway. A first goal came in for New Lusitania fruit of an assist by Breu into the magic feet of Gama which scored the opener. The second came from the team's top scorer, Silveira who smashed it in after a quality assist by Mário. Halftime, everything going well. In the second half, Gama came back hungrier than ever for goals. Fernando gave him a pass that led to his second goal, a great pass. A corner, from the left with Mário gave him the one that would let him keep the match ball - a great header, after Silveira originally shooting it, and the goalkeeper parrying it into the bar, with the Sevilha player putting it in on the rebound. Yet another enjoyable performance from the boys, with one game to go ... against Gudalajara.

THE DREAM GOES ON!
Gudalajara 2-7 New Lusitania

One last game between them and the Playoffs, against last placed Gudalajara. Lopes played in goal today, and Jota was subbed by prospect Moreira. At ten minutes of play, the first went in, a goal by the young player a though ball from Silveira, strook it down with confidence. At twenty five minutes, Fernando passed it to Breu who reciprocated, giving the assist that would increase the lead by two. At thirty-two a free kick was conceded by Gudalajara, with Nevais up to take it, a direct conversion into goal, which was simply stunning. A fourth one came in just before halftime, at fourty four minutes, an assist by Jorge Mário gave Silveira the unasailable lead of four goals. In added team, the home side pulled one back after a sloppy defending mistake, but a three goal lead would take an absolute miracle to recuperate from. In the second half, the Lusitanians' Breu scored with an assist from Silveira. Luz came on for Breu at sixty minutes, and provided a great assist for the header that would give Silveira a goal off his head. After that, Gudalajara scored a consolation goal. Moreira was feeling off. The last goal came from Fernando with an assist from Jorge Mário, a quality goal. Full time. A distraught home side, though one or two were seen swapping shirts, namely Silveira. A Record win for the Lusitanians, one which was not only historic in that case but also in the fact it had guaranteed their presence in the playoffs. The away crowd, though small invaded the pitch to celebrate, what a moment it has been. This however under the non-seeded title, as a stupid defeat to Michine had been enough for them to be part of the seeds. Nonetheless, the players celebrated on the pitch, even after the interviews stayed around a bit, and later on, hit the town. Silveira Gave the ball of his hat trick to the federation for what represented everything they had gone through in these last months, that culminated in this match. Will they make the finals? Only time will tell.
FULL TIME: 2-7

POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS
I: Thoughts?
VSC: We've made it! Credit to Beepee for putting up the fight it was a rollercoaster, and let's see if it does happen
I: Tell us about your first match at Truori?
VSC: In Truori I honestly think it was unlucky, we scored three, and that is usually enough, but Truori are a powerful team and they beat us fair in square. I was honestly disappointed of not getting a point off them, it made a difference in the end, between making it as a seed or not.
I: True. What about the game in Coimbra?
VSC: Well, we got a convincing win and we deserved it so, there's nothing much to add on that one.
I: ... And today? What a win !
Several Players invade the scene and drop a bucket of water on the coach celebrating the win as they chant
VSC: Ooh, that's a bit cold. Well done, lads. Great win. See you in a bit. What was the question?
VSC: Feelings on today's match, and the playoffs as well, actually.
VSC: Er... Yes. Amazing win, loved seeing the lads enjko themselves and celebrating with the away fans. As for the playoffs, no easy pickings but we'll do our best, we did well defensively and offensively and we'll do our best.
I: Indeed, thanks for your time Victor.

(Prior to the match)

Lupe Enriquez, sitting out the game due to receiving a red card against Tinhampton, went up to the luxury suite at Union Park that she had purchased for herself and her family to watch the game together. That part was going to be good, at least she would be able to watch it with them, but she wanted to be on the field. She was a part of team meetings and strategy sessions, as after all she will be back in the lineup against Acronius for the game in Concord Heights. Wearing sunglasses, and a dark blue hat, instead of her customary pink or white hat, she was not noticed by anyone as she made her way to the suite.

Game time was still half an hour away. She was antsy. A couple teammates sent her text messages to make it easier on her and for her to still feel part of the team. As the Acronius fans filed into the section below her, she noticed a Cassadagan family begin to take their seats. Wanting to get out of the suite, she figured she would introduce herself and make their day. She took off her sunglasses, so she would recognized right away.

She walked down to the seats. “Hey there, how are you all doing?” she asked.

At first, the response was indifferent until they looked at her and realized who they were talking too. Lupe smiled, “Glad you come out here and support our team!”

“Our pleasure,” the families mother replied, “This is like unbelievable! I can’t believe we’re meeting you! Can we take pictures?”

Enriquez grinned wide, “Absolutely, but how about we do it up in the suite, I am right up there above you, instead of being down here will all of these Blue Boys fans.” The family was happy to go up there with Lupe, and they took a bunch of pictures, and Lupe took care of all autograph requests from the family. Some of the nearby Acronius fans seemed to realize what was going on, and Enriquez was happy to sign some autographs for those who were interested.

“So, why aren’t you playing?” the couple’s ten year old daughter asked. “Are you sick?”

“I’m feeling great! I can’t play because of the red card I got in the game against Tinhampton. Aren’t you glad we beat them?”

“Yessss!!!” everyone exclaimed.

“Oh yeah because you beat that guy up. Why did you do that?” the same child asked, “Was he being mean?”

Lupe smiled. The kid’s mother told Lupe that she did not have to answer that question but Lupe said she would, “Soccer is a very rough game when you get to be my age,” she began, “when you are young like you are, just worry about scoring goals or stopping the other team from scoring goals. When you get older, and when you are playing for your country, things can be a little different. Sometimes you have to do things that are mean, but you can’t let the other team have their way with you. There can be other reasons, too, and why I hit him like that was because of one of those other reasons. But you should never hit your opponent.”

“Yeah, only people like you can!” the daughter cheerfully exclaimed.

“You ever watch a game in a luxury suite?” Enriquez asked the mother.

“No, never. We always assume they are sold out.” she replied.

“Well, let me have your number if you don’t mind, and I’ll hook you up in Concord Heights. How does that sound?” Enriquez asked.

“That would be amazing!” they all exclaimed.

“Consider it done! Now watch number 6 out there in my spot today. Ashley Crocker. She’s going to have a big game!” Enriquez replied. After some more talk, the family returned to their seats and Enriquez watched the game with her family.

Dagans Strike Twice; Big Road win,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

Playing in front of a sold out crowd at Union Park in Lionsgate, Acronius, the Cassadagan soccer team managed one of their most impressive victories to date. Acronius is in search of their first ever World Cup berth, and as much as their fans want it to happen, they certainly realize that they will have to go through a two-time World Cup champion. Hey, if they manage to pull it off, that fact would make it only sweeter. Massimiliano Abdullahi, the manager of the Blue Boys, promised a more explosive attack before the qualifying campaign, and for the most part his team achieved that goal. Now, the fans wanted to see goals in this big game. They knew Cassadaigua would be without regular starter Lupe Enriquez in the backfield, as she served her suspension for the red card she picked up against Tinhampton. All the more reason for these fans to think that they may be seeing goals for their team.

Enter Kristen Speller, the goalkeeper of the Cassadagan national side, who has been especially good since “pushgate” against Brenecia. Ashley Crocker was hungry to make a name for herself on this night. Even Carlos Martinez was upgraded from a reserve to a substitute, but he would not actually see any action. Speller told us that having played in Acronius in World Cup 79 was helpful, “They have a pretty similar lineup. It’s nearly the same, it’s just a new system. Same personnel, so we already had scouting reports on them. The plan was the counter their system, but I am confident in the players I have before me.” When they met in qualifying in 79, Cassadaigua drew in Acronius, 1-1, in the final matchday after their fate had already been sealed. Cassadaigua won the home leg, 1-0. Stephanie Sweeney said that the team would be mindful of the attack-minded adjustments that Acronuis would want to make, but they were still going to play “Cassadagan soccer.”

Early in the match, Acronius may have been a little too guilty of wanting to put on a show for their fans.
Some of their passing was forced, and that did not always lead to the greatest results. The defense, led by Jessica Curran was able to clear the attacks, and after 20 minutes, Acronius still hadn’t managed a shot on target. Five minutes later, their fans were about to become more frustrated, when a longball from Chelsea Blake found Zack Pierce a little too easily, and the midfielder had plenty of room to run, faked a pass to Hannah Ranucci, then fired it into the back of the net, past Marc De Brassaï to make it 1-0. Down a goal, and sensing some frustration in the crowd, the Blue Boys began to get better opportunities, including a barrage of seven shots on target between the 29th and 37th minutes, that were all stopped by Kristen Speller.

After going to intermission with a one goal lead, the Fillies were much the better team in the early second half, and in the 57th minute, and after several quality opportunities, Hannah Ranucci added the second goal of the game, to make it 2-0. There was no time for a let up though, and the team maintained their focus, knowing that this is an aggregate series. They would not aggressively push for a third goal, but took the chances when they came to them. Acronius had some opportunities, but the defense was on top of all of them, and when they got on net, Speller was there.

In the end, a 2-0 victory for Cassadaigua, but the work is not done. Still one more game to be played. “We’re not doing any premature celebrations, don’t worry!” Sweeney insisted. And we don’t doubt that one bit.

Rotislav FC is a club which plays in the Polkopian Premier League. At the end of the last season, the warriors finished in 8th place and continue to play in the top flight of Polkopian football for the upcoming season. The team currently plays in the city of Balavo, and their home ground is the Rotislav Arena, which seats up to 37,482 spectators.

History:

Rotislav FC was formed in 1963 and was the second club to be formed in the city of Balavo, with the club Sirius Baltika Balavo being formed the year prior. Since the PFA did not allocate the necessary funds to have Rotislav FC play in the Premier League, the club's first years were spent in the Second Division. The club remained in the Second Division until 1970, when Sirius Baltika Balavo filed for bankruptcy and was relegated as a result. Due to Rotislav FC finishing third the year prior, the club was automatically promoted as a result of having three teams relegated after the 1969-70 season.

The club's initial years in the Premier League were highly unsuccessful, and the club was relegated the year after its promotion into the Premier League. After the 1971-72 season, the club finished third once again, and managed to beat Stariy Movodsk FC with a score of 3-1 to earn promotion into the Premier League once more. The next year, the club finished 12th, narrowly missing out from having to play the 4th placed team from the Second Division to remain in the Premier League, however at the end of the 1973-74 season, the club finished 15th and was relegated.

In 1978, the club finished first in the Second Division and was automatically promoted into the Premier League. In that same season, Rotislav FC won the Polkopian Super Cup after beating FC Dovogo 1-0 in the final, securing its first ever trophy as a club. The club finished 9th place in the 1978-79 season, making this season its best finish up to this point. At the end of this season, manager Vadim Lamaras had attracted attention from several of Polkopia's top clubs, and he moved to FC Valinkova to start the 1979-80 season.

In 1980, assistant trainer Pavel Borno was promoted to the manager position, and pushed the idea of introducing Polkopian clubs to the global transfer market, which was subsequently shot down by the PFA. That year, Rotislav FC finished 13th and beat rival club Sirius Baltika Balavo 5-2 in a relegation playoff match in order to remain in the Premier League. The club was relegated after the 1983-84 season, but was promoted the following year.

In 1996, the club achieved its highest placement in the Premier League to date, finishing 4th place out of 18 teams. The next season, Rotislav FC won the Polkopian Super Cup for the second time after beating FC Valinkova 2-1 in extra time. Since the 1996-97 season, Rotislav FC has not won another Polkopian Super Cup, not have they surpassed their 4th place finish in the Polkopian League.

In 2015, the club was disbanded, along with the other Polkopian clubs, due to a large-scale corruption scandal across the entirety of the PFA. The club was reestablished the following year and Rotislav FC participated in the 2017-18 Polkopian Premier League, finishing 9th out of 16 teams.

World Cup Qualification - Making a Dream a Reality for Polkopia

Going into the World Cup qualifiers, Polkopian fans were not expecting much. An entirely new squad hand-selected by an entirely new coach normally meant that the expectations were pretty low, at least from many Polkopians' points of view. Part way into qualifiers, however, Polkopian fans felt their far-fetched hopes of qualifying for the World Cup come closer and closer to reality.

In the first few matches, Polkopia felt the full burden of coming into this tournament as unprepared and underqualified, having lost to the likes of New Gazi and Eastfield Lodge. By the end of the third matchday, Polkopia sat 7th out of 10 teams in their group, knowing that their next game would be against Valanora, who dashed the hopes of Polkopia qualifying for the 71st World Cup in Felix and Yttribia. In an event most Polkopians are calling a miracle, Polkopia delivered a massive 4-1 victory over the Marauders of Valanora, and the Polkopian team seemed to find their groove after.

Polkopia then went on to defeat Savalen, Rakivland, Axuva, and Qusmo and by the halfway point of qualifiers, sat at the top of their group, over football powerhouses such as Valanora, New Gazi, and Eastfield Lodge. By this point, World Cup qualifying matches were seen on every television in a Polkopian household during match days, and the fervor for the World Cup was high. Even if Polkopia failed to qualify for the World Cup, Polkopian coach Vitali Zorić's goal was met, when he said that he wanted to bring back football culture in Polkopia.

Polkopia came back to win against New Gazi and Eastfield Lodge in the home leg, and although the squad suffered a loss to Valanora on the road, Polkopia went on to win the rest of their games, save for a 0-0 draw in Qusmo. Polkopia finished the qualifiers second place, two points behind Valanora who've automatically qualified for the tournament. Polkopia were drawn against Apox, who were ranked 42nd before the tournament started and who failed to overtake 5th ranked The Holy Empire in their group.

The first of two playoff matches was held in Polkopia, where the two squads finished the match in a 0-0 draw. Now, the Polkopians head to Apox with qualification on the line, something that hasn't been accomplished for them since the 74th World Cup. It's a seemingly impossible task, however many believed that Polkopia getting to this point would be impossible as well. Will Polkopia continue to defy expectations?

Image

All eyes are focused on this Polkopian squad as the team travels to what could possibly be their last match of this campaign. Throughout Polkopia though, and especially in Polkopia's major cities, many street artists have voiced their support for the squad and manager Vitali Zorić, with street art such as the one pictured above becoming more and more prevalent within the nation. Normally, such demonstartions are viewed as illegal, however no arrests have been made and there doesn't seem as if though the Polkopian government intends to issue warrents for these artists. In fact, the Polkopian Football Association has voiced support for these murals, noting how the team needs as much support from their mother nation as possible, and this could only serve to benefit the team and boost morale.

Vilitan Corporations & Groups preparing for World Cup 81

Image

:: 3WD

3WD was formerly one of the most influential companies in Vilitan sport including being the official kit supplier for both the Vilita and Turori National Teams as well as providing kits for other National Teams such as Krytenia, Kaze Progressa, Eauz and Lethislavania. Their biggest fame, however, was likely as both official supplier and as kit sponsor of Jungle Strike FC. 3WD left the kit production business when they sold their kit templates and production equipment to Tropicorp Sports and now a more streamlined 3WD focuses on design consultancy and brand awareness.

After focusing primarily on local and regional consultancy, 3WD made waves being selected by the organizing committee of the 81st World Cup in Banija & Free Republics as the brand consultants and design firm charged with producing the graphical theme surrounding the competition and branding the identity of the upcoming 81st World Cup. 3WD also designed and productized through their production partnership with Tropicorp a selection of T-shirts and polo-shirts to be used by the World Cup 81 organizing committee officials and staff prior to and during the 81st World Cup while consulting other apparel and merchandise firms regarding the use of the World Cup 81 insignia on other clothing and trinkets to be sold for the games.

:: Arcticala Electrical

The Arcticala Electrical company is the main supplier of power in the Vilitan Cove region. Arcticala Electrical harnesses energy from many sources and prides in its renewable Wind, Hydro and Solar efforts. The company also runs a small scale Nuclear generation facility inside the Sorthern fallout zone.
