The War Cry of Uncle Sam

The war rages on.
The Commandant of the United States Marine Corps had seized power, rejecting the corrupt system he saw running the nation. He sought to use the power justly, to help to reform the United States.
Instead, he destroyed it.
Across North America, states seceded from the Union, tussling over borders and politics, aligning themselves into new, fledgling governments-some to stand against tyranny, some simply in a quest for power. Their infancy was bloody, and many did not survive-The Pacific Rim Coalition, Messo-America, the Independent Republic of New York, The Pacifica Republic, the Republic of Oregon, another by the name of the United States, the Commonwealth of New England-all tried their hand at independence-and to a one, failed.
Now, after months of horrid war, after the bloodiest battle ever to grace American soil, the American Union, the largest, and strongest of the rebel states, has joined New Florida in succumbing to the Federal government. With NARU now standing against her former allies, many wonder if reunification at the tip of a blade is simply a matter of time.
Even in the face of this, some insist on remaining free. Called rebels by some, freedom fighters by others, traitors, or true patriots, from an arisen Confederacy to an independent California, still they rise.
The world outside remains gripped in their own struggles. The West stands alone. Long-lived countries look on as newborn factions cannot chose as if to fight each other, their former masters, the outside world-or themselves. Borders shift, cities are razed, civilization descends into anarchy, and soul after soul is sent into the next life.
Now, the architect of the nation's shattering is in fetters. Commandant Stull is captured-but America fights on. They hold to the War Cry of Uncle Sam, as their enemies shout their cries of freedom, and the clashing of steel overwhelms all.
