NS Nation Name: The Marcher States
Position Applying for (Major General of the Republic of New England, President of X country, etc. etc.): Commander of the DMV Resistance Council
Flag of your nation (if new nation)
One paragraph history of your country (if new country): After Commandant Stull seized power, DC and the surrounding counties became a warzone. Millions of civilians, federal employees, and forces loyal to the old government were now caught inside the new regime's sphere of influence, and thousands were killed in the fighting. As the situation stabilized, residents of the area opposed to the martial law imposed by the Stull regime began to organize, covertly and publicly. Those who did the latter were jailed or killed when they took to the streets. The covert groups formed an alliance in May 2016 dedicated to restoring the "true" United States Government to power and avenging the deaths of their fellows. Decentralized and efficient, the Council's membership is made up of over 30 tight-knit cells, operating mostly within the bounds of the District of Columbia. The Council itself is headed by the Executive Committee, elected by the heads of the member cells. Other loosely-affiliated gangs and groups work with the Council to assist with its guerrilla war against Stull's forces in the DMV. The Militia is also seeking material and financial support from outside forces, which will be an important component of this RP. The active forces of the council number around 16,000, with a further 10,000 internally displaced persons living among the cells' bases, which vary from tiny Baltimore apartment basements to whole farms and summer camps in Virginia.
One paragraph history of your character: This RP will follow two central Council figures:
Commander Leonard Rose is the President of the DMV Resistance Council, and is often referred to by his position's codename of Archbishop. An ex-Ranger and retired narcotics cop with the DC Metro Police, Rose was a community organizer for the DC Neighborhood Alliance before the coup. After his wife and grandkids died in the fighting, Rose went underground with a bunch of former DC cops and formed the Patrolmen, which grew to be the largest contributing member to the Council at the time of its founding. He has succeeded so far in maintaining the integrity of the Council, but at the time of the RP's start he will be facing some internal strife from the Kings of Baltimore, another major Council member made up of Baltimore police, Maryland State Troopers, and ex-cons.

Marcus Vindictus Witt was a student at a DC university before the coup, struggling along with his studies and smoking his nights and weekends away. When DC fell into chaos, he led a few dozen of his fellow students on an exodus underground into the myriad of tunnels beneath the city. Linking up with other survivors, they eventually formally founded the Underground Dankroad, an ever-growing network of college students-turned-smugglers, supply depots, and raiding parties that regularly steal from the military forces above to supply the Council's DC-area efforts. Witt heads it, mostly going by his alias Dr. Greenthumb (so named because of the heavy instance of marijuana smokers in his organization, as well as the massive underground pot farm that he uses to supply both surface residents and other Council cells). The Dankroad is the Council's primary source of information and supply in the DC proper, and always facilitates transport and other support components of sanctioned Council ops there.

I'll take it the Northwest is occupied by the California "Republic" and the ex-Federals, though Nevada, Idaho, and Utah are disputed, correct?

Seriously? First you give me it now you're going to hack it up into smaller pieces?

If you're going to do that, just leave me California and give him Oregon and Washington.

1. I noted earlier that Calfornia was already provisional.
2. Dude, you got the most powerful, most populated, wealthiest state, in the best strategic position, plus the bulk of the pacific fleet-and then you got two other states to boot. Not really in much of a position to complain.

With this (assuming option 2), you lose population (though you remain nearly ten million more than anyone save the American Union), but you still have a lot of land, a lot of people, a massive navy, a great strategic position, and some pretty good other military forces as well.

In any case-Finelli, are you OK with Oregon/Washington? We could also probably do it so that you just get the bit of coastline down to San Francisco connected to it so you can keep your Silicon Valley title.

For whatever it is worth, West Virginia is open, so you may want to either claim it, or move your bases there.

Righty, added a bunch of new people to the OP (and the map, Neo-Chicago, feel free to email me a new link for the map whenever you make any edit, and I'll get right to editing the OP), I'm a little confused regarding California, I'll require a confirmation of the accepted application and then it'll be right on there with the rest of em.

It would probably declare independence too, but because its so far away, I doubt it would play any significance.

With that in mind, you can still apply, and as long as the app is decent, you'll get accepted.

Position Applying for (Major General of the Republic of New England, President of X country, etc. etc.): Premier of Borinquen
Flag of your nation (if new nation):

One paragraph history of your country (if new country): The Worker's Collective of Borinquen came out of the chaos following the coup in the United States. With emergency power taken by Alejandra Toro, the new nation annulled its crippling debt, and set to work on socializing its economy and infrastructure. The nation welcomed revolutionaries from all across the United States and other South American nations to join in the revolution. The nation has secured its borders against foreign trade, save for food.
One paragraph history of your character: Alejandra Isabella Juanita Toro de las Descalzes Reales was a revolutionary from a young age. Her parents did not approve, but she voraciously consumed leftist literature, and became active in promoting those ideas in high school. She went to college at UC Berkely, but dropped out a year or two in. She attempted to form her own party, consisting mostly of Latinos and Latinas who agreed with her views, and travelled throughout California and the southwestern states, while organizing in Puerto Rico from afar. When the coup occured, she raced back to the island, organized her supporters, and, with the governor incompetent, seized emergency power.

Application, work in progress.

NS Nation Name:Prolieum
Nation Name: The Constitutional Republic of Freedonia
Position Applying for: Chancellor Robert Friedrich Eberhardt
Vice Chancellor Alfred Neumann
Flag of your nation:
Image
One paragraph history of your country (if new country): The Constitutional Republic of Freedonia came about in the immediate chaos following the coup. Robert Eberhardt, having fled the capitol after a failed attempt to arrest or eliminate the traitor, returned to South Dakota, where he began amassing a following. The western states, seeking a leader, and seeing in Eberhardt a potential unifier, with his pre-attack speech swiftly becoming perhaps the most viral video in history, and his name recognition and military background considered boons, granted him emergency power by a conference of Governors, who formally seceded from Stull’s United States. Most of the west, drawn to the liberty agenda, joined him, but Idaho remained set apart, as did most of Nevada, save for an opportunistic join by Las Vegas. Arizona and New Mexico were split-a push by Mexico northward led many to fall, or secede to join them, resulting in many patriots and soldiers from those southern regions fleeing to the Republic, but also those sympathetic to Mexico fleeing from the nation. The nation was soon joined by the handful of the U.S.'s tiny unincorporated territories, drawn in to the image.

The capital of the new nation is Kansas City, the area around which also marks its easternmost territory. The capital, along with Las Vegas and the Red River, currently are host to the bulk of the military forces available, with defenses around the cities, and along natural boundaries, being created. The territories received reinforcements as soon as possible-but the nation's lack of surface navy save tenders proves problematic. The nation has implemented a universal militia training regimen, though it allows for religious or moral exemptions to it, in an attempt to ensure it is able to defend itself. The populace contains a substantial number of those with combat experience, or who are currently soldiers, but the western lands hold few people, and save a handful of areas, the Republic as a whole has little heavy industrial capability.

As would be expected from Eberhardt, despite the crisis on hand and emergency powers, the nation remains committed to a Libertarian ideal, with the government currently avoiding severe impositions on rights or business.

Though at present the situation is such that implementation is impossible, the government is looking into a return to hard currency for the future.

One paragraph history of your character: A presidential candidate before the coup, Robert Eberhardt became a household name when he dramatically attempted to personally stop the coup-an attempt which failed, but in doing so made him the new symbol of the liberty movement against Stull, leading to a great many U.S. soldiers, returning from overseas, and elsewhere, along with several civilian militias and libertarians, flock to the fledgling Republic. He currently holds emergency power as President, as well as the position of Commander-in-Chief, elected by vote of the Governors of the states which form the Republic, powers which he fully plans to relinquish as soon as the sovereignty of the nation is restored. Upon his return, he married his secret love, Emily Lenserr, and immediately set to work to make the temporary state into a legitimate government. An official border was negotiated with the Republic of Texas, and diplomatic envoys sent to the new major powers, while a Constitution was being formed, and the rule of law put into place. At present, Eberhardt is in Ottawa, awaiting a conference with the Prime Minister of Canada.

General Alfred Neumann was the had of STRATCOM before the coup. When the news reached him, the highly cautious man immediately locked down bases in the west, and moved to secure what he could-actions which would become invaluable later. When Eberhardt was elected as Chancellor, he tapped Neumann to be Vice Chancellor, seeking his experience and knowledge. The General is very cautious and defensive, an acknowledged expert in logistics and holding territory-a steady, intelligent man, though not necessarily with the "brilliance" attributed to tactical or strategic savants-rather, his skills lie in organization. The fairly independent man has integrated into Freedonia well, believing in holding the nation as a separate one, and is committed to ensuring the new state is well-defended against aggressors.

California has Silicon Valley and the Pacific Ocean so that problem would be solved by this point in time. Solar panels, wind farms in areas with little to no human habitation, and hydro-electric generators in tidal zones and near ocean currents. Cutting themselves off from the rest of the country would be difficult, particularly since they want to return to the US after the war.
