Who
This is the roster thread for World Cup 91, as you may have guessed from the thread title. Please only post here if you have signed up to participate in World Cup 91. If you have signed up, you should post a roster, preferably prior to MD1. Please do not post about administrative matters (spam, double posting, etc.) and leave that to the OPs and mods to sort out.
What
A roster is simply a list of your players. To be considered the bare minimum of a roster you need to list 11 players including a goalkeeper;* a normal match day squad might be about 23 players; a World Cup squad could feature 30 or even 40 players in a "pool". There is no upper bound, though listing every single player in your country is obviously just as useless to your opponents as listing none!
Where
World Cup qualifying uses a double round robin system meaning your team will play your opponents both home* and away. Therefore, you should consider posting some information about your home stadium(s), even if it's just a name (or names). You could also provide information for opposition teams and fans about visiting your country, such as rules and regulations, climate, or culture.
* Your "home" games do not have to be in your country, in-character, if travel is banned or you have some roleplay reason for preferring a different destination, but they will generally be assumed to be, and the scorinator will treat them as though they are home games for home advantage purposes.
When
The World Cup draw will take place next week and MD1 begin in the days following. You are encouraged to post your roster prior to MD1 of the tournament. There is a 50% roster penalty in effect that means that until you post a valid roster, you will be credited with only 50% of your rank.
Why
NS Sports uses a collaborative roleplay system that means your opponents will benefit from knowing who is on your team so they can RP better, and likewise you can RP better if you know who your opponents' players are.
How
The more information you provide, the more you help other people RP, and in turn earn RP bonus for yourself... to a point. Overwhelmingly large rosters are discouraged (though not prohibited or penalized); please try to consider getting the important, necessary information into a readable format, even if you add extra detail later. You could describe your players' tendencies and playing styles, their appearances and personalities, their histories and domestic records. You could list formations or highlight preferred penalty takers. You can go into detail about your team's coaching staff, fans, history, organization.
You can include pictures, such as the team kit, playing formation, logo, or ground. Please consider spoilering excessively large pictures!
For ideas, you can look through the last World Cup roster thread.
* Technically, your team can exist of any number of players. Roleplayers have fielded five-a-side teams, or even a single player, before. That said these are unusual cases and in general it's best to have 11 players listed anyway in case your opponent isn't keen on RPing such wacky events.
Technical details
Please include some version of a permission box:
- Code: Select all
[pre]
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my scorers: Y/N
Give yellow cards to my players: Y/N
Give red cards to my players: Y/N
RP injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod scoring events: Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod other events: Y/N
Style modifier: +/-[/pre]
Godmoding is a somewhat fluid term that generally means extremely unusual events beyond what would normally be expected from a game of football. Coming back from 3-0 down is not godmoding. All of your opponents' goals coming from balls being blown into the goal by unusually strong gusts of wind is godmoding. If in doubt, please ask your opponent for permission. Any disputes will be resolved by the host.
You may customize your permissions if you have specific things you want to emphasize. Please make sure to read and respect your opponents' permissions.
Style modifier
A style modifier indicates your team's playing style from -5 (very defensive) to +5 (very attacking). Style does not affect the probability of winning, drawing, or losing, nor the margin of victory or defeat. Please indicate your style modifier clearly, preferably in the first or last line of your roster so that we see it.
Every team may change their style modifier once during World Cup qualifying. Such a request must be sent by telegram to the World Cup hosts, and must be done prior to cutoff on the matchday in order to count.
If you have any questions about any of this, please contact the World Cup hosts or ask in the Discussion thread.
