Filindostan 3–1 Abristan
Filindostan National Stadium, San Marco, Filindostan
Scorers: Bienvenido 3', 14', Mordecai 65' :: El Abassi 87'

Ethel Toh's first match in charge of the Pula Garuda ended up in a 3-1 win against Abristan. She fielded an entirely different starting eleven from the one who lost to Cassadaigua last matchday.

Bienvenido opened scoring after just three minutes, and was able to double his tally eleven minutes later. Mordecai effectively put the contest to rest when he scored a half volley just at the edge of the penalty box to give the Esportivan nation their first win of the campaign and climb out of bottom position in the Group 14 table on four points.

North Quadana 1–2 Filindostan
North Quadana
Scorers: Senzo 81' :: Ina 18', Dwi 76'

The interim manager named some changes as well as a change in formation from a 4-4-2 to a 4-1-3-2, with Sutikno inserted into the lineup.

Like the last match, it was the Filindos who drew first blood, with Ina Teterissa opening the scoring at 18 minutes. North Quadana were a tough side to score against in their own turf, and it took the teams changing sides and 31 minutes from the start of the second half to put the hosts to the sword with Dwi's controlled ground shot eventually getting past Kouji Kitano for the second goal. Captain Oyakawa Senzo scored a consolation for the hosts, who become one of the victims of the Toh's Filindostani onslaught as she led the Pula Garuda to their second win in two...

Filindostan 2–0 Tiiwark
Filindostan National Stadium, San Marco, Filindostan
Scorers: Bienvenido 8', Rai Sanada 89'

...and make it three of three.

Rarely does Filindostan score early goals, but when they do, they just... score. Bienvenido adds to his goal tally with another one of his signature bicycle kicks, that gave Xiitas Wiiliaq no chance whatsoever. Rather than having difficulties breaking the resolute Tiiwark side, the Filindos were more of wasteful in taking their chances, either by tame shots by Ina or Bienvenido, or the wayward shots of Mordecai and Sutikno that never troubled Wiiliaq.

It would take a sub to score the second goal, with Rai Sanada scoring the goal to keep Tiiwark rooted as one of the bottom three teams, and elevate Filindostan to fourth in Group 14, a nice regovery given that they were bottom of the pile just three matchdays ago. It was also the first match in the qualifying campaign where the manager kept the same starting eleven as the previous match.

It was an interesting matchup as the Purple Knights of Taeshan played host to a new opponent in the form of Cobrio. The stadium was the Stairway to Heaven in Mt Ceabring, home of the Thunder, and the sides faced off on a nice spring day. With this the third to last matchday of the first half of qualifying the Knights were looking to keep pace with the Triumvirate of leaders Free Republics and Darmen, and the team on pace with them The Macabees. For the first time this season the Knights were scored upon, but also scored and that was perhaps the most intriguing part of the match. With the three other teams that the Knights are up against winning the Knights knew that they themselves would have to win.

The Knights were the first to draw blood as Janson Jewsbury's corner kick was headed home by Abriel Torres for his 2nd goal in his 15th cap for the side. For their part the upstart Cobrion defense was not taken aback by the strong early goal from the Knights and proved more than willing to attack them for much of the game. They would tie things up just before the half in a defensive lapse that could have proven costly for the Knights if the halftime substitution of Miles Snavely didn't immediately pay off. The long-time Captain and current high-cap winner scored his 118th international goal early in the second half as mGeoffrey Klingenberg found him open in the box. The Knights defense found more stability as Sahler Moon came in late to help them and Santiago Santiago earned his third international cap in a bid to kill off the game.

-Struna (90+2')

Stadijo Nasinal, Burges. Attendance 81,120

Sami Jorgenson scored his first international goal as Mattijana rallied from 3-1 down to beat Qusmo in Burges.

The tie was the archetypal game of two halves as Qusmo dominated the first half to earn their half-time lead before Mattijana scored 4 second-half goals without reply to turn the match around.

Qusmo are generally known for being a more conservative side, but came flying out of the blocks early on. Xilit-Zaxac forced Handanovic into a sharp low save with a snapshot from the edge of the box after just five minutes, but got his reward for his team's ambition just 7 minutes later when he found space between Mattijana's defensive partnership of 21-year-old Sami Jorgenson and returning captain Katija Burnisevic to poke home a cross from the dynamic Helek-Nenzi.

Mattijana briefly threatened to recover when Velezia was inches away from threading a through ball into the path of Mathilde Lekarisa, but Qusmo doubled their lead when Helek-Nenzi cut inside from the left wing, beat Burnisevic and curled a delicious finish into the top corner.

The marmots did finally get on the board approaching the half-hour mark when midfielder Marko Hojbjerg thrashed a pile-driver of a shot past Xynat-Evela from just outside the box. Just as it looked as if there were signs of life in the match though, Qusmo seemingly snuffed them out with a third goal.

Xilit-Zaxac got his second a loose pass in the middle of the pitch by Katarina Jakupovic enabled Ilinx-Vulav to steal the ball and make a run through the middle of the Mattijanan defense. The midfielder was able to lay the ball off to Xilit-Zaxac, who tucked a delicate low finish around Handanovic.

Qusmo were able to comfortably see things out until the break without much resistance from the home team, but whatever manager Dusan Vukoja said in the dressing room must have had an effect as Mattijana looked a completely different outfit in the second period.

Their revival officially began in the 49th minute when Velezia finally found her range to flick a ball over the Qusma defence for Lekarisa to run onto. Playing at her home stadium, Mattijana's leading goalscorer made no mistake, dinking the ball over the onrushing Xynat-Evela and into the net.

Unlike when Mattijana pulled a goal back in the first half, Qusmo seemed to go into their shells after conceding a second time. That allowed Mattijana to gain control of posession, setting up camp in the Qusmo half and eventually winning a free-kick in a promising position when Mattias Hoffman was conclusively felled by Cunix-Betva 25 yards out.

There was only one woman looking to line it up and that was Katarina Jakupovic. The Snezn midfielder is Mattijana's dead-ball specialist and had the perfect chance to get Mattijana level. She stepped up, curled a bending shot over the Qusma wall and straight into the top corner.

The Mattijanan fans were elated to simply have drawn level, but with momentum on their side, the team on the pitch wanted more. With Qusmo still under the cosh and the 70,000 Mattijanan fans raucously cheering them on, there would be more to come.

Jessika Struna's break down the right flank turned the defence, leaving room for a cross towards Lekarisa in the middle. Zenon-Gerol arrived just in time to scoop the low ball over their own crossbar, but Mattijana would strike from the resulting corner.

Jakupovic's delivery was perfect for the run of centre-back Sami Jorgenson who powered home his first international goal from the back-post to send the Stadijo Nasinal into delirium.

Qusmo threw everything they had back at the Marmot's defense to try and salvage a result, but Jessika Struna broke away in added time and slotted home to put the game beyond reasonable doubt.

Mattijana back on track?

The victory comes at the end of a fairly barren spell for Mattijana in which they lost to lower-ranked opposition in the form of Velestria and drew with even more lowly Alluersia. They now find theselves third in group 11 however, leapfrogging Qusmo, and are just 3 points behind second-placed Cosumar.

They will face the group's table-toppers next up in the form of Saltstead, the only unbeaten side in group 11. Despite drawing with Velestria earlier today, they remained a point clear of he group's top seed Cosumar

Mattijanan claims that the group was a reasonably benign one for them were met with a lot of bemusement by other nations in the group, especially Mytanija. Whilst the group is certainly highly competitive, no one or two teams have taken control and effectively locked out the two qualifying spots. There are plenty of teams jostling for position, but in terms of Mattijana's chances of acheiving World Cup qualification - the holy grail for Mattijanan football currently - it is better to be in a group where they could finish anywhere between first and 7th than a group in which they are guaranteed third or fourth, but have practically no chance of finishing in one of the hallowed top two spots.

Mytanija in Crisis

Mytanija are of course the side to really fall on the wrong side of that competitive nature. The nation has lost its last 5 qualifiers, slipping to rock bottom of group 11 in the process, and leaving manager Lev Repin in a highly precarious position.

His side's run of form shows no signs of getting better either. Mytanija's next game is against Cosumar and although they may get some respite in the form of a matchday 9 encounter with Vartugia, winning that game alone may not be enough for Repin to keep his job.

Repin has met with the FSM, Mytanija's FA, to try and work out just what has gone wrong, but he appears to have few answers to a rapidly increasing list of questions. Were Mytanija to lose to Cosumar, a scenario that seems likely, it is likely Repin would be shown the door shortly afterwards. Watch this space.

Four in a Row
Darmen finding form as halfway point approaches

Adab 2–5 Darmen
ADB: Lineup Unknown
DAR: Campo - Wilkie (Espinosa 78'), Coghlan, Maddox (Spalding 78') - Ramírez - Armbruster, Winton (Svendsen 72'), McNeil, Stafford - Hurst, Blackwood

GOALS
A-D
0-1 Hurst 8'
1-1 Unknown 12'
1-2 Blackwood 21'
1-3 Hurst 36'
2-3 Unknown 57'
2-4 Stafford 81'
2-5 Hurst 89'
The All Greens have continued their march towards a seventh qualification to the World Cup finals, defeating Adab in a 5-2 decision away from home. Skylar Hurst made a massive statement with a hat-trick, the first scored by a Darmeni since Felix Lucanus scored three against Mriin in the group stage of World Cup 80. Hurst's performance will go a long way in making a case for the young twenty-four year old to replace Felix Lucanus as the primary striker on the left side.

Craig Blackwood and Juanito Stafford also scored. For Blackwood, it was his fifth goal of the qualifying campaign, tying him with Hurst as the two leading Darmeni goal scorers.

Darmen has two matches remaining before it reaches the halfway point of the campaign; there's a tough road match against Cobrio followed by a home match against Balqia for the Darmenis to navigate. Following that, Darmen will have some significant friendly opponents to face. The All Greens will first travel to Eura for a match against the Rushmori giants, after that the All Greens will host World Cup 82 co-hosts Apox for a match in Scott City.

Lineup vs. Cobrio
Campo - Virgo, Abbey, Lyne - Goldschmidt - Ó Cuilinn, Cardoso, Butler, Freud - Firmin, Russell
(SUBS Abram, Maddox, Good, Pickle, St. John, Lucanus, Borde)

FROM: Ezechias MacFarlane, CEO Scott City International Airport
TO: Qusmair
SUBJECT: Establishment of International Flights between Darmen and Qusmo

To whom it may concern,

Greetings from Darmen. My name is Ezechias MacFarlane and I am the Chief Executive Officer of the Scott City International Airport, Darmen's largest facility for domestic and international flight operations. It has come to my attention that your nation, and therefore your company, are looking to expand ties with your Rushmori neighbors. It is my belief that a partnership between your airline and the airport I represent would be mutually beneficial to not only our companies, but our nations as well.

At present, the only non-chartered international flights into and out of Darmen are conducted by Air Terranea. The daily flights to Centralis and Cenial are not enough to satisfy demand, and the lack of supply has led to ever increasing prices. It has become apparent not only to myself, but to my government as well, that having additional options for Darmenis to choose when traveling abroad would be extremely beneficial.

I therefore propose that daily international flights between Scott City and any destinations in Qusmo which you believe would be popular for Darmeni travelers should be established. I have already held preliminary discussions with my government and have secured their full support. Should my proposal interest you, I would ask that we conduct further correspondence, or hold in-person meetings between representatives of our companies, to discuss and finalize details of any agreement we may come to. Such meetings could be held here in Darmen or in Qusmo, whichever is most convenient for you.

Sincerely,

Ezechias MacFarlane

Gavin's shoes squeaked on shopping mall's worn, but freshly polished floor. Hollowford Town Centre could probably have benefitted from a bit of a renovation, but it was still in fairly good shape, had free wifi, and generally remained a cut above the scene of decrepit consumer despair that was Pinecrest Point, ten kilometres down the road. At quarter to ten on a weekday morning, most of the shops were yet to open and the wide passageways were practically empty of patrons except for the busload of seniors from the nearby retirement home ambling towards the food court.

Gavin followed them with a specific destination in mind. This was around the time when the people on opening shift cleared out the fridges of things the health inspector did not like to see, and while the mass-produced sushi from Shogun Express was probably bad news even before its expiry date, he 1) really liked sushi and 2) hadn't gotten sick yet. He was diverted when he spotted Hannah behind the counter at Toasties.

"Hey. Not much of a breakfast rush, huh?" he said

"Only on Fridays, really. The guys from the construction site come in and they all want three breakfast wraps each. What's up?"

"Nothing so far. Even the delinquents haven't gotten round to cutting class yet, it seems."

"Oh well. I need to go behind for a bit and clean the bread oven. We can chat if you don't mind yelling a bit."

Gavin nodded.

There was an unexpected silence, then the sound of a plastic spray bottle falling to the ground.

"Hannah?"

"Oh, Christ..." he barely heard her reply.

Gavin climbed over the counter and went into the prep area. Hannah was standing in front of the oven, a large cabinet-sized device which turned frozen blobs of dough into the delicious fresh-baked bread which makes Toasties sandwiches delicious, according to their commercials at least.

"Are you okay?" Gavin said, "What..." At that point he, too, noticed the corpse sticking halfway out of the oven.

He was shocked, for a moment, then quickly realized that as mall operations staff, this was his problem, and that was the thought which brought his breakfast back for a second coming.

Hannah had just recovered her wits and was about to say something when she was pre-empted by a voice behind them which said, very firmly, "Hold it right there."

Ok dear reader, it’s confession time. We’ve been doing this a while now, but for the very first time this fine nation was presented with a qualification group that did not evoke waves of nausea and a need to slowly breathe into a brown paper bag. Instead there was a lower ranked top seed (and one that happened to be a regional rival hence adding a Rushmori classico [a Rushssico?] or two to the fixture list), a lower ranked third seed and (you guessed it) a lower ranked fourth seed too. Could this be the fabled comfortable qualification campaign that we’ve heard about but never experienced? Could this be the one?

Ha, no. No. Of course not. Don’t be ridiculous. We immediately lost to both Sorrentopia and Crystalline Caverns. Because of course we did. So that relatively lowly ranked nation that emerged from pot one was given a six point head start. Making the fixture between us and them of greater significance than originally anticipated. So to our mighty capital they came for a match that, given the early stage of the campaign, wouldn’t quite be dripping with significance. But it was pretty important.

Which is why a hundred thousand fans in the stadium and a several million across the region went through the usual raft of emotions as their sporting heroes did battle. Punch was followed by counter punch. Chances were made and then missed. Thousands of hands went to thousands of faces. And one moment decided it.

A moment started when Roberto Penedo bowled the ball out to Fabián Parra. The left sided centreback passed it forward to César Goyoso, who turned smoothly away from the covering Jürgen Eisenhower and released Alfredo Valenzuela down the left flank. Inside of sticking to the touchline he cut sharply inside Dirk Freitag and drove infield, taking the fallback with him. Valenzuela laid the ball off to Sergio Espina, who was making a run through the centre. The captain played a beautifully weighted first time ball to substitute Miguel Marí who, now occupying the space left by Freitag and without breaking stride, curled an effort around Thorsten Gerber from ten yards out.

A bigger shock than beating top seeded Pasarga was the actual clean sheet it was built upon. Only Gutulia has thus far failed to breach the Corsairs’ often porous rearguard. But hold out they did, taking Sargossa (the nineteenth finest footballing nation in the whole gosh darn sportiverse) to the heady heights of third in this ‘easy’ group.

ÖRKENDREM PAPERS

"Poor

Article written by: Erÿk Äberlüg

6-0. A bombshell for Kevagaria. A day to remember for Darkmania. Sure, its a bit rude for a team ranked 75th to beat a 332nd ranked team. But when your national team has a reputation inside Darkmania for losing matches and underpeforming, we guess its something?

The matched started 21.00 darkmanian local time and less than 10 minutes into the game, we had our first goal. Ërim scored via a long pass from the midfield into the goal. He will later repeat the feat 12 minutes later. Mjøe also wanted a goal, and after 3 tries in witch one of them resulted in a yellow card for himself for taking down a foe, he finally was able to score at `67. He celebrated by doing it again in `70. And in `74. Is there a reason he became the Man of the Match? Oh and the final match was an own goal at `85 by a player who will now be criticized in his homeland

The match was a match to forget by Kevagaria. After all, it's not something that can motivate their national team. They are at the bottom of the group and they will likely fail to qualify. Darkmania, on the other hand, climbed to 4th place and the sweet, sweet smell of a spot for the WC are near. It can happen. Its only takes time.

Helloing!

We are being famous Slobbodovanian music act Sbrskj Krk Trkrj - or, in your own language, "Let Us All Rejoice in Harmonious Melodies of Glorious Motherland".

While Holy Empire defensive backline is being banned during the investigating of the causing of agonising death to poor people of Sulsuland, who are watching the football in hole in ground, we are temporarily doing the singing of our poetry on behalf of Holy Empire. This is World Cup where Holy Empire is loving of poetry.

Are you not remembering Sbrskj Krk Trkrj?

We were doing the representing of Holy Empire in World Cup 64; and later we made appearance in special cultural festival in World Cup 71 singing Slobbodovanian folk opera In Search of the Lost Vowel.

Perhaps you are remembering famous Sbrskj Krk Trkrj music numbers "Mother is Making Beet Soup for Supper (Again)", "Family Trees Should Have Few Branches", "When There is No Meat, We Can Always Eat Beets", and famous In Search of the Lost Vowel lament 'Without Two Beet Beaters We Cannot Beat the Beets'.

Now we are singing on behalf of Holy Empire epic folk song to do the celebrating of Empire's victory over Libertas Omnium Maximus.

How you are hearing our song, as performed by members of Sbrskj Krk Trkrj:

Milan! plik-plok, singing; Fyodr! zuzelhoorn; Pyotr! moodelhoorn; Fyodr-Pyotr! silenhoorn ; Yaropolk! doobel plik-plok, singing ; Vassily! hoobrl drums, singing ; Vlad! krkln bells; Radvn! catpipes; Nikky! trppel plik-plok, singing; Ion! ear flutes; and Sava! hitton sticks, singing

There Are No Beets in Libertas Omnium Maximus; It Is Land Without Beets
By Sbrskj Krk Trkrj

[Translated from the original Slobbodovanian]

La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
There Are No Beets in Libertas Omnium Maximus
It Is land Without Beets

The lack of beets in Libertas Omnium Maximus
Means that their national team is weak.
The National Team is made up entirely
By young men from the Maximusian Major League Football Association.
But because they have no beets, they are weak.

La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
There Are No Beets in Libertas Omnium Maximus
It Is land Without Beets

See how the Holy Empire crushes Libertas Omnium Maximus
Yes, the final result it is only 2-0
But this is because the Holy Empire hits the woodwork
Many times.
The are eating many beets in the Holy Empire.
The eating of beets makes the Holy Empire strong.

La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
There Are No Beets in Libertas Omnium Maximus
It Is land Without Beets

In Slobbodovania, we are knowing that the eating of beets
Makes man and woman very strong
Man and woman wear clothes made out of beet leaves.
Our bridges are made of steel made of beets
So we know land without beets cannot win at football
And Libertas Omnium Maximus is a land without beets

La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
There Are No Beets in Libertas Omnium Maximus
It Is land Without Beets

<trppel plik-plok solo!>

Libertas Omnium Maximus national team manager Vincent Alfonsi
Has never even seen a beet,
Is life is obviously incomplete without beets.
Holy Empire forward William McGonagall has eaten may beets.
His beet-eating explains why he scored both goals.

La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
There Are No Beets in Libertas Omnium Maximus
It Is land Without Beets

So now we are finishing singing our song about beets.
It is important to remember that Libertas Omnium Maximus
Is land without beets; hard though it is to imagine this thing.
But in Holy Empire, many players are eating beats
Which is why they beat beetless Libertas Omnium Maximus.

La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
There Are No Beets in Libertas Omnium Maximus
It Is land Without Beets

We are hoping you are liking our song. It is always hope of Sbrskj Krk Trkrj to be pleasuring you.

STELBURGER ZEITUNG

Late Edition -- Sports

The Witzel Show: Goldhorns Beat Holy Marsh 3-1

Kurt Witzel was Man of the Match as Siovanija and Teusland picked up their 3rd win in a row, defeating Holy Marsh 3-1.

It was the first home qualifier to be played at the newly-renovated Draistadion, and the second international match overall after the 2-2 friendly draw with Mytanija. FC St. Jakob, the regular tenants of the stadium that also hosted the Cygnus Cup Final, have one current and one former player on this Goldhorns team, Leo Heiden and Dennis Brotzmann respectively. The Goldhorns came into this one having gotten a solid 3-1 win over Freeport away, that had followed the 3-2 upset win over Damukuni.

“We’re wanting to keep going here, get a bit of a run going as we head into the middle of Qualifiers. We want to have all the momentum we can get,” commented Thorsten Kramer. Karl-Heinz Jager added, “It’s so important that we get turn our home into a fortress, and I think we’ve done well with that so far other than the first match.” The squad was not necessarily a first-choice selection, with regulars Lutz Daschner, Raphael Klopfer, Ivo Romanov and Viktor Dimitrov amongst those on the bench. Young blood in Luka Ambroz, Leo Heiden and the aforementioned Witzel was in to replace them.

The Goldhorns looked quite strong on the ball early in the match, and played at a rapid pace. Creativity came mainly from the middle of the park, with the duo of Kramer and Witzel having great chemistry. The blue and gold came closest to scoring in the first 15 minutes through Miro Dinev, who headed a cross from Kruger just off the post. Despite their great possession numbers, the Goldhorns had trouble getting shots away, and when they did get chances they were usually frustrated by the Holy Marsh keeper.

Things changed just before the half, however. Karl-Heinz Jager made a great tackle, before sending a long pass forward to Kurt Witzel. The Marzig midfielder took his time moving up the field, trying to sense an opening. Finally, he saw one, and sent in a pass that let Ludwig Reichwein get into great space. Reichwein took a touch before sending his shot into the bottom right corner, putting the home side 1-0 up. Gavin Hughes’ boys would take that score into the half.

Holy Marsh came out with a bit more pace to start the second half, but the Goldhorns outmatched them in that department. Leo Heiden and Ingolf Kruger were integral providing speed from the wings, but Luka Ambroz in particular made some dangerous incursions into the attacking third. One of the young full back’s crosses was headed away by a Holy Marsh defender, before falling right to Witzel on the edge of the box. His shot was hit with power straight into the top left corner. It was a beautiful goal for him, and it put the Goldhorns 2-0 up.

The half wore on with the home side slowing down, the Goldhorns content to hold onto the lead. That was not a wise decision, however, and Holy Marsh began to press forward. It is difficult to get momentum back one it is lost, and as the visitors began to get more and more chances there were some worried murmurs amongst the home support. A save from Yanko Zhelyaskov that put the ball out of play gave Holy Marsh a corner, a chance for them to take advantage of.

The Goldhorns’ defending on that corner was, to say the least, poor. A Holy Marsh player had been left unmarked, and converted a header past Zhelyaskov to bring the visitors within one. Karl-Heinz Jager was clearly upset with the defensive collapse that had occured on the play, as was captain for the day Thorsten Kramer. 20 minutes remained in the match now, and certainly the match was yet to be decided.

A few defensive substitutions occurred from the Goldhorns, Erich Thierse coming off for Raphael Klopfer while Ludwig Reichwein made way for Vladimir Kostov. Thus, the Goldhorns dropped into a 4-5-1 formation aimed at protecting the lead. It frustrated the visitors, and they suddenly did not look as likely to equalize. That being said, one moment could turn the game, and thus the Goldhorns were still looking to attack when possible.

That one moment came from Kurt Witzel. He had been near-perfect all day, and once he picked up the ball from Vladimir Kostov, he provided certainly the top highlight of the day. Moving up the field, he dribbled past 3 defenders on his way to the box. He faced one more challenger, and sent a pass in for the run of Miroslav Dinev. It was a simple finish for Dinev’s 22nd international goal, giving the Goldhorns a 3-1 lead.

Siovanija and Teusland would hold on for the last minutes, getting the important 3 points from the match. “That’s a good win for us, we’re happy with how we played for the most part I think. There was about a 5-10 minute lapse in there, but overall it was a good performance,” commented Karl-Heinz Jager. Asked about his performance, Kurt Witzel added “I’m happy with how I played, of course, but what’s important is that the team got win today.”

Next up for the Goldhorns is probably the toughest match of the first half of Qualifiers. Siovanija and Teusland will travel to Ko-oren, ranked 23rd in the world and currently sitting 2nd in the group. A huge ask for the team, and an equally great effort will be required for the Goldhorns to upset the home side.

Siovanija and Teusland 3-1 Freeport

Siovanija and Teusland XI (4-4-2): Fehr; L. Dimitrov (Kleinmann 60’), Klopfer, Karapetrov, Daschner; Leistner, Kramer (Kostov 60’), V. Dimitrov (Brotzmann 87’), Romanov; Kynev, Ribbeck
Goals: Krasimir Kynev 3’, Michael Ribbeck 21’, 58’
Match Report: Krasimir Kynev’s early goal sent the Goldhorns on their way, and a brace from Michael Ribbeck would extend the lead to 3-0. The Goldhorns might be disappointed by their defensive work later in the game, as poor communication led to Freeport getting one back and missing a penalty that would have put them only 1 back. Still, it was a great match overall and the Goldhorns attack in particular seems to be clicking so far in these last few games, 6 goals over the last 2 and 13 overall.

Siovanija and Teusland 3-1 Holy Marsh

Siovanija and Teusland XI (4-4-2): Zhelyaskov; Schorner, Thierse (Klopfer 66’), Jager, Ambroz; Kruger, Kramer (Brotzmann 82’), Witzel, Heiden; Reichwein (Kostov 66’), Dinev
Goals: Ludwig Reichwein 38’, Kurt Witzel 59’, Miroslav Dinev 78’
Match Report: 3 in a row now for the Goldhorns as they defeat Holy Marsh 3-1. A goal from Reichwein in the first half gave the hosts the lead, before a great effort from Kurt Witzel extended the lead to 2. Holy Marsh would get one back off a corner, before an inspired run from Witzel followed by a great pass to Dinev gave the legendary striker his first of the campaign, and the Goldhorns the 3-1 win.

Double Bill

NEEDED VICTORY
Zuiopien 0-1 New Lusitania
Zuiopien ? Stadion

On the road again, "a Equipa de Todos Nós" travelled to Zuiopien. Patríce played in goal, with Vinagrete, Cancela and Cédric in defence, Nevais, Mário, Fernando, Gama with three men up front, Jota, Silveira and Henrique Costa. It was a dull game, in the fact that it was extremely one sided. Patríce's work was fairly limited and if not for the opponent's goalie, the game would reflect itself in the result. However, the goal came just before the hour mark, a remarkable cross by Henrique Costa which led to a goal by André Silveira, handing the team the three points
FULL TIME: 1-0

SHOCK OF THE NORTH
New Lusitania 3-3 Saint Émelie
Estádio do Conquistador, Guimarães (Att: 44, 765)

Back home, New Lusitania were hopeful of finding form against Saint Émelie. In Guimarães, the stage was set at dusk as Sá started in goal, along with Coentro, Cancela and Cédric in defence, Eustáquio, Breu, Fernando, Gama in midfield. Jota, Silveira and Ivo Cavalariça up front. The game started well as, Ivo Cavalariça managed to score in the first fifteen minutes after a great play, which started from Eustáquio and continued with a pass from Fernando, who was credited with the assist.
Later on, Saint Émelie scored with a goal sprung from a counter-attack, one that came from an attack in numbers from the Selecção with Sá not being able to reach it. In the second half, the holy named country managed to score a second goal, this one came from a simple mistake, one from the goalkeeper when he came out of goal, a well seen opportunity.
A few moments later, Francisco Gama recieved a ball from Fernando, who controlled it and shot it with ease. Saint Émelie managed to score on 70 minutes of play, a header from a corner put Saint Émelie ahead once more. With five minutes to go, we see a defining moment in the qualifying stage for New Lusitania, as a defender takes Gama down. The referee had no doubt on what action to take and pointed to the penalty spot and gave a red card to the offender, whilst his side tried to contest the decision. Gama, at this time, was still on the floor. The medics came in, and confirmed the worst, another injury for the team. Once he went off the pitch, noticeably annoyed and distraught, Silveira put the ball on the spot. He kept his cool, and put it straight down the middle, equalising.
Celebrations as justice was made, and a point was saved. FULL TIME: 3-3

POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS and REACTIONS
(Interview following the game in Guimarães)
I: Yet another draw here tonight. Thoughts?
VSC: In the last two matches we were starting to play well, but tonight we were a bit under the weather. Saint Émelie were determined to get something here and they did.
I: In your honest opinion, was the sending off fair?
VSC: Without a doubt, he's completely reckless with that tackle and the penalty is well awarded.
I: Two major losses in the last three matches. Will it be hard to cope?
VSC: We lost two major players, one on each flank and we're going to try and adapt to it. I can announce now, that I am planning to callup Bernardo Veiga, the Leiria player of Bemfica roots. He's been playing really well and I think he's a good choice for the position. The way we move forward will change as the players are different, and we'll change our tactics to match that.
I: Appreciated Victor.

Air Conditioning - Episode IV

Postby Tinhampton » Sun Mar 17, 2019 3:09 pm

OOC: Forays of Folly is taking a cycle-long break. In the meanwhile, please enjoy this tale of conspiracy, conspiracy theory, conspiring conspirators, and flat-out dodgy blokes who seek to manipulate the Tinhamptonian population and Football Association towards the end of 2018-ish...

On six... two... five... zero kilohertz across the multiverse, this is Tinhamptonian International Broadcasting.
It is now five in the evening in Tinhampton.
Coming up... the Municipal March of Tinhampton.

This, our land we will defend
This, our land will never end
And forever we will stand
To defend here this, our land

And when we see the works of those
Those righteous, noble men who chose
To defend this here, our land, we cease
To surrender our future with ease

It shall be gloried - this, our land
Will somewhere and forever stand
Amongst those who mine, work and make:
That this, our land they shall not take!

God bless Tinhampton. Coming up... the news, in Tinhampton and abroad. We now hand over to William Everson.

WILLIAM EVERSON (WE): This is the Tinhamptonian Broadcasting Service, in conjunction with Tinhamptonian International Broadcasting. Our top story today: Gladom Newion diplomats have been expelled from Tinhampton after an ongoing row over the cause of the Transpella fire, which has been provisionally cited as an incident of pro-democracy terrorism by the local authorities. Here's Ahmed Khan with more on this story today.
AHMED KHAN: Thank you, William. As you were saying, since the Fourth Gladom Newion Civil War came to a rapid end in the opening days of 2014 with the conclusive quashing of pro-Tinhamptonian rebel forces, the two countries have been at each other's throats looking for some way to make the allegations stick - and the Tin City has drawn first blood after Tuesday's fire at the Transpella parking lot that is said to have cost upwards of 50 million Tinhamptonian dollars. Whilst the cause remains unclear, CCTV footage from the scene appears to show a man loitering right before the fire, a walk that appears to have started from the Gladom Newion consulate about thirty minutes walking west from this point. Whilst police have understandably been unable to investigate the person in question, the fire brigade have temporarily interrupted their strike over pay to devise new building safety standards proposals to be forwarded to the new administration in April, whilst the current government have had no choice but to cut off as many diplomatic ties with the meKonta regime as possible. This ejection of diplomats will be seen as a turning point in that relationship's history. Ahmed Khan, Eastern Star Heights, Tinhampton, for the Tinhampton Broadcasting Service.
WE: Thank you, Ahmed. More detailed discussion on this event and more will occur at Newshour 9, which is - of course - at nine this evening on TBS and Tinhamptonian International Broadcasting. In other news, a pla--- PSHTTTT!

He knew it. He just knew it. The rest of the town had scoffed at him, laughed at him, almost got him arrested on suspicion of a public order offence - but he still just knew it. Give it a minute or two and you see him on his bike trying to find a job, but one unlike any other in an Jobcentre that nobody else knew existed...

SPONY LUQ TELEVISION

Hello, all. Welcome to Spony Luq Television, broadcasting from Qanz, Qusmo. With a five-three loss in Mattijana that could prove vital to both nations’ hopes of qualification, Avarn-Oxolt Ban’s headaches have not abided. Qusmo simply has not been in form of late, & although it is still, for the most part, on the fringes, Avarn-Oxolt may not have experienced as much opposition to their tenure as they do now since they took over. With that, let’s get to our first question, from a viewer in Qanz.
What’s gone so wrong with the national team?

First, Avarn-Oxolt has not been able to fix Qusmo’s offensive woes. This is somewhat concerning, because Avarn-Oxolt does not lack for talent; Xilit-Zaxac Yol & Paliv-Xilit Max, their two forwards in their Matchday One Starting XI, each had a record of approximately one goal from every other match for the national team. That should be no surprise, as Xilit-Zaxac is Pug Qusmyra’s record transfer, incoming or outgoing, after being named Fuzpon Qusma’s Forward of the Season, while Paliv-Xilit has been a regular starter for Pascal Mashu of Kita-Hinode the past two seasons, a club which has scored the most goals of any in the KiHi-LEAGUE in both years Paliv-Xilit has been there & won the league last season.

Even if Xilit-Zaxac or Paliv-Xilit are not in form, Avarn-Oxolt has a wealth of riches on the bench, too. The team’s reserve striker is Prant-Pertz Gor, the striker who won two Pugy Qusmyra in two seasons with KF Qastyr & led Qastyr to its first Champions’ Cup quarterfinal after being a key reason why it was the highest-scoring club in that year’s Champions’ Cup group stage. If Avarn-Oxolt wants to alter their tactics or needs more width in attack, they also have options available like Ozolx-Mazur Guv, whose departure from KF Rejin after Ryrak Bez saw their former club plummet from fifth & invited to the Vilitan Cove Invitational to eighteenth & relegated in the span of a single season.

Despite that, Qusmo simply has not been a consistently strong attacking side. Qusmo has scored only nine goals so far in its first seven matches of the World Cup 82 Qualifying campaign. That is not out of step with previous cycles - but that’s precisely the problem. In World Cup 81 Qualifying, Qusmo was able to manage only eight goals in their first seven matches, one short of their current pace; they stayed competitive for a playoff place, but despite an historically good defense, they ultimately fell short because they could not score in big matches down the stretch, & they collected one point instead of three. Going back one year further to Qusmo’s first foray into international football, the team started World Cup 80 Qualifying with that same figure of nine goals in seven matches. Without that strong defense, Qusmo did poorly, finishing seventh place in their group of ten, with only twenty-two points.

That’s relevant now - & increasingly concerning - because Qusmo’s defense is simply not performing anywhere near the vaunted level it was expected to be at, having conceded ten goals already in its first seven matches. That is only the sixth-best defensive record in the group of ten; Qusmo is much closer to the mark of Sajnur, whose twelve goals mark it the second-worst defense in the group, than to Cosumar, whose five goals mark it the group’s third-best defense.

It is a far cry from last cycle’s performance, too, when Qusmo was tied for the ninth-best defensive mark among all one hundred ninety nations which entered World Cup Qualifying throughout the Multiverse. That wasn’t due to having poor offenses in the group, either, as Qusmo had the best defensive record by far in their group, at a rate of just over forty percent of the next-best mark of twenty-two goals conceded, while Axuva conceded sixty-four goals, the most out of any of the one hundred ninety nations in World Cup Qualifying by a margin of five goals.

Turning our attention to the history books, Qusmo has conceded more goals in these seven matches than it did in the first twenty matches of the eighty-first WCC cycle; it conceded only nine goals in eighteen World Cup Qualifying matches & recorded consecutive clean sheets in its first two matches of the Cup of Harmony group stage. To put it in another perspective, Qusmo has conceded the same number of goals in these seven matches as it did in its first seven matches of World Cup 80 Qualifiers - the first seven matches the team ever played.

Looking specifically at this match, Qusmo has never conceded more goals in a single match than the five it conceded to Mattijana. It is the fifth time Qusmo has ever conceded five goals in a single match & only the third time they have done so in a competitive fixture. The previous two competitive matches in which Qusmo’s defense allowed five goals were both against Ceni: the away fixture & then the home fixture on Matchdays Eight & Seventeen, respectively, against the Rushmori giants in World Cup 80 Qualifying.

Shifting our focus to Qusmo’s recent form as a whole, Qusmo has drawn twice, lost twice, & has not won since starting the campaign as the only Group 11 team to win their first three matches. Qusmo has not played more than three competitive matches without earning at least three points since World Cup 80 Qualifying, when it happened twice: first the long six-match period from Matchdays Three through Eight in which Qusmo won no matches, drew once, & lost five times, & then a four-match skid from Matchdays Fourteen through Seventeen in which Qusmo won no matches, drew twice, & lost twice. Interestingly enough, the last match of both of these winless streaks was a match in which Qusmo conceded five goals - the two World Cup Qualifying defeats to Ceni - before they were ended by wins against Omerica.

So, perhaps a rebound is in the cards for Qusmo. They would certainly hope it is. After ascending to the top of the Group 11 table, they have fallen to fourth & could easily drop further if their current form persists, only a single point above sixth-place Sajnur. However, Qusmo is still only in fourth place; they can certainly still salvage their campaign if they can get back on track.

That will start with a match in Alluersia. Alluersia may not seem like the toughest opponent Qusmo could face, but it would be a mistake to underestimate the difficulty of this matchup. Alluersia has had a bad stretch of form, but they are on a great run of form that their place on the table hides. After earning just one point in their first four matches, the team drew with one hundred second-ranked Kavagrad on Matchday Five, then drew on the following matchday with reigning Esportivan champions Mattijana - a result Qusmo could not manage, in embarrassing fashion - & has just compounded Lev Repin’s woes in Matchday Seven by defeating fellow Rushmoris Mytanija. Alluersia is performing much better in recent weeks, on a three-match unbeaten streak against the three Group 11 teams directly under Qusmo in the rankings, with results growing more impressive with each successive week. If Qusmo is not careful, both teams’ run of form could well continue.

However, the fact that this match will be played in Alluersia is also of note. Alluersia represents a separatist region of West Guiana which has declared independence. West Guiana still claims the territory as its own, however, & violence has broken out pertaining to the cause of Alluersian independence. Qusmo’s government has expressed concern over the situation recently, advising no Qusmi’y to travel to Alluersia to support their team. In addition, the Qusma government has announced that it will station Qusma troops on the Teus ship the STSS König Johannes for the duration that any Qusmi’y are in Alluersia for the match, to allow the Qusma military to respond quickly in the event that violence breaks out again & Qusmi’y are caught in the crossfire.

With militarized conditions, no support from home, & the possibility of war & violence looming so large that their government has stationed troops offshore in anticipation of it, the Qusma team will have to deal with a multitude of psychological conditions that will make play extremely difficult - & that will compound being on a four-match skid against an underdog host team on a three-match unbeaten run. Qusmo will hope that this match will be the answer to turning the team’s fortunes around, but it could just as well put Qusmo in a yet-deeper hole.

Whatever the result, Qusmo will close the first half of the qualification campaign at Mastad Kolla against Saltstead. With fifteen points, Saltstead leads the group & is looking squarely at returning to the World Cup - a feat they were able to achieve in the last cycle. Saltstead is the only team in the group to have not lost a single match so far, & they have both a slightly better offensive record than Qusmo’s & the best defensive record of any other team in the group so far, with only three goals conceded. Qusmo conceded more than Saltstead’s seven match (& counting) total in a single half against Mattijana. Saltstead has eliminated Qusmo in a critical fixture before: the Round of Sixteen of Cup of Harmony 72. It could well be that Saltstead delivers a knockout blow once again - consigning Qusmo to another Cup of Harmony.

Krytenia 1-2 Lisander: Somerville scored two times and Lisander reaches the top of the group, at least for now.

We are at the top of the group, now what? And now nothing. Pay attention that this is not such a glory. This is not enough. For any and every middle nation, this is a great achievement. But it's not like we desire just a middle nation. We should not overestimate our results.

The win against Krytenia took us temporarily to the top of the group, one point ahead of Equestrian States. If we lose the next match against Pratapgadh, we may not finish another round in the lead. I hate to spoil all your optimism, but much of this excitement is meaningless. You have to channel that into the bleachers. It is necessary that the thirty thousand fans go to ACK Arena to push the team. Let's make a spectacle in the stands, so we can continue to dream about this wave.

Without counting the game against Indusse, we won all the others by 2-1. What does that mean? That our goalkeeper, Andreas Michaelichen, double national champion, is not good? I do not think so. Michaelichen, who joined the Sparta squad two years ago, and has since been voted the best goalkeeper of the month for 11 of the last 16 league months. I believe our defence needs to improve. They need to be more attentive on the pitch to avoid goal scoring at the beginning of the game as it was this last one. Already at four minutes. With the leadership of captain Andreas Wagner, this team can only improve. But Wagner is in his last participation in the World Cup, probably.

On the attack, we're doing well. Milo Somerville in particular. Two goals against Krytenia, one at 44 'and another at 70', which gave the upset and victory to Lisander in the game against the blues and whites. Somerville was calm in person when Lisander's team was under pressure. He came back to score, he participated actively in the game of passes throughout the game, and he was able to find the opportunities. First, in individual play, kicking in the space left by the goalkeeper. Then in a safe, strong shot, taking advantage of Christian Nantel's corner kick. Somerville was voted the best of the match by fans on the Federation Blog.

Ops. A little too late.

All around the nation hundreds of millions of Euran's were about to begin a habitual ceremony. Although the age of television had long dawned, and the advent of social media and the internet had come, it was still a part of the national cultural tradition to listen to the EBC Radio One news at ten o'clock in the evening. Eurans would sit down with a glass of wine or a cup of tea on their sofas, in their bedrooms, over their kitchen sinks, anywhere that you might find a radio or another device that could play it, and listen close. A well spoken, gentle but serious voice would let them know what was happening in the world from a studio in Bastion, before cutting away to an analysis programme. This had been happening for over a century in one form or another. It was the voice of the nation and a part of its soul. For a country with so many people in such a large area, unifying traditions like this one were what gave Eura its identity. Tonight's news was not as groundbreaking as the outbreak of the recent war or as thrilling as the first reports of the 66th World Cup final, but it drew in huge figures nevertheless.

Once the clock had hit ten the broadcast began with the telltale "bong" sound of the Castle Clock Tower in the centre of the capital. Bong. Then came the voice. 'This is EBC News at ten o'clock. The news is read by Patrick Limehouse.'
Bong.
'Further tributes have been paid to the monarch of Banija by the Government, after he was recently killed by an as of yet unidentified assassin. Banija's head of state, Kabaka Albert III, was shot at an event in the provincial region of Entebbe. The Foreign Office has offered sincere condolences to the Banijan people for what it called a "senseless act of terrorism". The Prime Minister Amy Yarley has said she will speak to the heir to throne as soon as she is able. She is currently on an official visit to the Euran Oceania Territories.'
Bong.
'The leader of the Social Party Roger Grayson has resisted calls to step down following his party's defeat in the general election. However, it is understood that he will be calling a leadership election in the coming days after a number of shadow cabinet members threatened to resign.'
Bong. The first two headlines were always those deemed most editorially important by the producers.

Following the two key headlines would be a third headline of a domestic or Sameban nature, and then a sport or entertainment story to maintain some variety. 'A spokesperson for the Provisional Government in Samebus has confirmed that as many as six hundred people died in riots on Sunday. The former Sameban capital was ravaged by fighting between pro and anti Beranist militias. The Ministry of Defence has confirmed no Euran casualties were incurred during the fighting.'
Bong.
'And, despite being made to wait, Eura recorded an important victory in their World Cup qualifier against Audioslavia. Eura were put through their paces in a tough match, but came out on top thanks to John Leach's 81st minute header.' In under a minute the headline bulletin was over. The whole programme followed on from this. Further detail was provided on the breadth of news in those headlines and more. Every day the Euran people received the same dose of level headed and clear news, and it was a blessing in an era where the truth had become too often blurred with fiction. Then, once all the serious discussion was out of the way, came the all important weather forecast.

Meltdown on the Midland
By Rami Niblick in Bromham

MANAGERIAL exits in Krytenia have often been dramatic. Whether it's Sam Duffy's quickfire sacking after the Eight Past Ibanez debacle, Phillip Neasden resigning at a post-match press conference, or this reporters own bizarre last game, it's not unusual to see a changing of the guard packed with incident. Last night's game at the Cygnus Stadium will take some topping, though, as the Dragons managed to finish the match with a different man in charge to when they started.

To say the home side started badly would be an understatement, as opponents Garifunya took the game by the scruff of the neck. The front three worked the space well, and it was no surprise when the men in red took the lead earty, with Ali Wijkstra's sweet strike capping a passing move the Dragons simply didn't have any answers to. Less than a minute later and it was two-nil after Freddie Hames' clumsy tackle led to a free kick. The ball was whipped in, finding the head of Marcel Afring with goalkeeper Marcus Washington out of position. At this point, the home side had no options left but to chase the game - at least as far as Valrauncion was concerned - and this left holes. One such hole was exploited by Florentijn Takman, who managed to slip past Thomas Scott before wrongfooting Washington and lashing the ball home.

With his team three down inside twenty minutes, it's safe to say Valrauncion was not best pleased. His berating of Scott, however, was ended by an unexpected source; the fourth official's board. The red number seven indicated Valrauncion's number was up; Alexander Sampson had, apparently, had enough, and was hauling his boss off in a move that could be best described as "ballsy". Valrauncion...did not take this well. The elf, incenced, removed his shirt, throwing it at Sampson before storming down the tunnel. Sampson went about giving his replacement, debutant Selaphiel Kennedy, his instructions; meanwhile, Valrauncion was still incensed and making a beeline for the KFA delegation in the director's boxes. Sampson's plan for the rest of the half was simple; play possession football and get a hold back onto the tempo of the game, and try not to think about the inevitable half-time argument with the gaffer.

As it turned out, there were some bright spots on the horizon. With the game having calmed down from its frenetic start, Krytenia clawed their way back into proceedings, with the pacy Kennedy causing headaches. Afring had no answer to one particularly good turn of skill, allowing the Stanton striker space to shoot, beating Arjan Maatman and giving his team a lifeline. More drama was to follow when the team returned to the dressing room at the break, when they were met not by an irate Valrauncion, but a stone-faced KFA official. It transpired that the erstwhile manager had stormed up to the director's box in an attempt to get Sampson fired; the board members proceeeded to point out that Sampson was busy trying to get the team out of a hole not of his creation, and it wasn't him that had recorded a paltry one win in seven, and sacked the elf on the spot.

Rather unsurprisingly, it was a more confident and composed Krytenia team that emerged for the second half. "The Process" had been consigned to the dustbin; in its place, a style of football the former international striker was more comfortable with, placing emphasis on possession and distribution. Slowly but surely, the home side began to break down the visitors' resistance. Chris Naismith went close with a fizzing angled drive that hit the side netting, and Josh Coquelin wasted a good opportunity when he couldnt keep his volley down, but the cracks were appearing in the Garifunya defence. Jake Hansen was the man to eventually deal the damage, as his dangerous cross found a diving Naismith who managed to direct the ball past Maatman and reduce the deficit to one. At the back, too, things looked better, as Hames played himself in a more withdrawn role off the ball to help Matthew Gray and Gareth Brannan cope with the threats from their opponents' front three.

The equaliser didn't come as a surprise, though perhaps the scorer did. The tiny Malcolm Aitken, barely on for two minutes as sub, jinked past two defenders, took out a third with a quick one-two with Kennedy, and slotted the ball past the beleaguered Maatman and giving the Dragons twelve minutes to find a winner. Teenager Kennedy duly obliged, though not in the most spectacular fashion, poking the ball home after a Krytenian corner three minutes from full time was only half-cleared.

When the dust settled, though, the three points were irrelevant. Krytenia, for the first time in months, looked confident and competent in possesion and at the back. The dark rule of the Starblaydi-born elf was over; long live Alexander the Actually Decent. The former Ousevale Borough man only has a contract up until the end of qualifying for now; more performances like the second half here on the banks of the Midland River, though, and he might be here a litlle longer. Onward!

Part 1
Part 2

Dear Elena,

As a teenager I began to hang around my parent’s apartment less and less. I had a tense relationship with my parents, both of whom were Visorav immigrants. The apartment was located a couple of blocks south of the Patrijarh Stolica cemetery and it wasn’t the most welcoming of places. It was in one of those greyscale high-rise tower blocks that were almost mass produced all over Mytanija under Tolic’s rule. It was often very cold, there was damp patches all over the walls and what wallpaper was left was hanging off in places – almost as if it was trying to tear itself away from the damp plaster underneath.

I was born in Esca, but when I was only a couple of years old my mother became extremely ill and my father – an operator of heavy machinery in a factory – sent me to live with my grandmother back in Visoravna. She lived on the outskirts of Ebor, in a quiet area of the city and I liked it there. The pace of life is rather different to Esca, although this wasn’t something I fully appreciated at the time. What I did appreciate, however, was being close to nature and the sea. They are two things Ebor allows you to experience a little more fully than Esca would.

It was around the age of six where I realised I had developed a somewhat devious tendency and was showing what some might call ‘unhealthy’ intelligence. I would – on occasion – torment my cousins by putting thorns in their shoes, but most of the time we would play near the sea and I became adept at scaling the rocks next to the water; on reaching the top, I would leap into the water below. I think that is where my fascination for climbing things, for chasing the rush of adrenalin that climbing things gives you, was really born.

I think it was probably at the age of ten when I pulled off what you might call my ‘first heist’. There was a library near to my grandmother’s in Ebor that some of my older cousins would go to so that they could find the books they needed to complete schoolwork and it always closed at around 5PM every day. One of my cousin’s, Antonio, came home and was complaining about how the closing time was stupidly early and that he hadn’t been able to take a certain book out because of some outstanding fines he owed. I took it upon myself to help him out.

I ate my dinner and afterwards I snuck out of my grandmother’s house and made my way to the library. I sized the place up, tried to open a few doors and all to no avail. They were all locked. I wasn’t about to give up, though, so I kept looking and spotted a window that was slightly ajar about 6 metres up the side of the building. Bearing I was only about ten, this seemed a lot higher up and a part of me did wonder if it was worth getting hurt for. I put that to the back of my mind and started to clamber up. Nobody spotted me and I was able to wriggle through the window once I had opened it further. I was inside the library with nobody else around.

It took me much longer than I had anticipated to actually find the book Antonio needed, it was in either the biology or chemistry section, but of course I didn’t really know where to look. I hadn’t spent too much time in the library myself and had little knowledge of where the different sections were. Eventually I found it, almost stumbling upon it by accident. I then exited in the same manner I had got in, throwing the book down and then climbing down the wall. I picked the book up off the ground, wiping the grit and dust off it and then ran home. I thought my cousin would be so pleased with the fact I had gotten him the book.

“Antonio, pssst, Antonio it’s me.” The small boy whispered through the crack in his cousin’s door. He could see light coming through and also the outline of his cousin, hunched over and writing furiously. His cousin ignored him. “Antonio!” He said, a little louder.

“What?!” His cousin replied, still writing. “I can’t get a moment’s fucking peace in this place!” He exclaimed, turning around as the boy edged through the door and faced him with both hands behind his back. It appeared as if he was holding something. It would probably be some stupid thing he had found whilst running around with his friends and he would want to show it off. Antonio didn’t have the time for such trivialities.

“I heard you saying about how the library opening hours are stupid,” His little cousin said, bringing from behind his back an enormous tome. Antonio’s eyes widened, then a puzzled look settled across his face. “So I thought I’d get the book for you, at least this way you can finish the work you need to do for school!” The boy said proudly.

“How did you get the book?” Antonio said. A crestfallen look appeared across the boy’s features, it wasn’t exactly the response he had been expecting.

“Well, I heard what you were saying about the library opening times being stupid so I found a way to get the book for you even though the library was shut.”

“Yes, but what did you do to get it?”

“Well all the doors were locked so I looked for other ways to get in and there was a window slightly open so I climbed up and—” The boy began to explain, with Antonio suddenly cutting him off.

“Did you break into the library?”

“Well I didn’t break anything!”

“Yes, but did you go into the library when it was shut, with nobody else there?”

“Yeah, I did, but it was to get you the book!”

“You’re a fucking idiot kid.” Antonio said, sighing and rubbing his eyes. “How am I going to explain this to the librarians, you’ll get me another fine for taking the book without their consent you imbecile.”

“But I was only trying to help Antonio!” The kid protested.

“You don’t understand, you can’t do things like this. You’ve got me another fine, probably unable to take any books out and that’s not even talking about the fact you fucking broke into the library when it was shut!”

“Please don’t tell Nana, Antonio!”

My early criminal escapades were always rather intuitive. It wasn’t like anybody actually taught me to do anything. I returned to Esca when I was eleven, speaking next to no Zentrian – which for a kid from Vojovitica or Thessia wouldn’t have been an enormous problem, what with those three being more or less mutually intelligible, but for a Visorav kid made communicating very difficult for a while. I also barely knew my parents, I couldn’t remember much about them, I’d only been two when I’d left Esca for Ebor and I hated them for uprooting me from my life there.

They also argued all the time. It got worse when they drank, which they both did heavily. I would watch them and eventually I learned to stay out of their way, I could tell when they were going to get aggressive and as I understood this more I would make a hasty retreat to my room as quickly as I could. They would often be more loving at first, when they had their first couple of drinks, but then as it went on they would turn on one another and one would become violent – hit the other and then the pair would end up fighting. It was tough to see. A few times my father turned on me, but after this happened for what might have been the fifth time my mother drew a knife and told him to leave. He did so, eventually coming back about a week later and it never happened again.

They lived in the apocalypse, fighting almost constantly as I reached my teen years. Despite the turmoil at home I did fairly well at school and was a good athlete, I joined the school athletics team and played football too. I also developed a fairly keen interest in drawing and in my spare time I would walk the streets of Esca alone. Things seemed to be on fast-forward and in no time I was sixteen, walking through Kalemova Park and there was an enormous temporary greenhouse. There were no actual plants inside, though, it was an art exhibition. The first year of a now annual occasion in Kalemova Park.

I went inside and walked past the pieces, names like the Euran Mortimer Bruges and Zwangzugian Maurits van Huys. There was Satoru Sadaharu’s Dying Lights and the Prahecqois virtuoso Monoir and his glowing renderings of pleasant, happy childhoods – the antithesis of my own – among many others. Here, in one place not far from my home in Esca, were some of the finest pieces of impressionist and post-impressionist art in the multiverse. I was enraptured by it all, my love affair with art began there too.

Monoir had used his brush to create and transport me to this parallel universe, an enchanted version of the grim kitchen sink drama that my life in Esca had become. It was as if he saw life as a magical realm and he actually came from that place. It thrilled me to be within a hand’s reach of such spellbinding imagery.

As soon as I returned home I told my mother – in one of her increasingly rare sober moments – about the transporting experience I had had at the exhibition. I told her about my drawings and that I wanted to paint, that I had been inspired. I was passionate about it and I told her that it was this passion that made pursuing it worthwhile, that other jobs were pointless because they didn’t mean anything. I feared my father’s opinion on the matter, he was a cold man, an alcoholic and he was from an era where a trade or a job in heavy industry was seen as the only fitting thing for a man to do. I entrusted my mother to transmit the message to him.

My father soon approached me, he was sober, which came as a surprise. But I instantly knew that it was regarding something serious because of this discrepancy from my normal meetings with him. He said it was good that I was interested in something and that it was nice to hear about this instead of just seeing me sneak out at night to hang out around the cemetery ‘or whatever it is that you do now’. This was slightly surprising, I had expected him to be entirely opposed to the idea that his son might be interested in drawing or painting – that it was
somehow too effeminate a pursuit for a man. This was about as good as it got, though.

He said that whilst it was nice for me to have interests that painting was only a hobby and that I would need to make sure I find a real job. He pressed me to join him at the factory, he said he could get me a secure job there and show me how to use the machinery. I resisted. I didn’t want to end up just like my father, a man who drank to excess and beat up both his wife and his son. In a dead-end job for fifty years of my life. Eventually, I thought about fleeing.

All about Swede
unnecessary for RP purposes, but a good background to understand the story
https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=1183248

Swede Johanssen had arrived at the Kabaka's Palace after the drive over from the Embassy. The PM had called on the secure phone personally to instruct him to find out what was happening and what assistance they might require. He had to tell her that he would have to get with the Katikkirro for that, as Mwanga was out of the country, a fact that Rebecca Schoenlein hadn't realized.

"Just get over there and be there....especially for Queen Iriana. Tell all of them that we are keeping them in our thoughts, hoping for the best."

He was actually surprised that he had heard from Belle Haven so quickly; the news was only just filtering in from the northeast within the last 20-30 minutes. It wasn't until a few hours later that he realized that the NSC at the base probably heard the news before most anyone else in the country.

During the ride he called the Katikkiro's office and when told that he was unable to take the call, Swede understood. He gave the receptionist a message to let him know that if they needed anything from BP, he should not hesitate to get in touch.
Of course, as a regular presence at the Palace, Johanssen was waved through the security checkpoint. He was fortunate in that he himself had established an excellent social relationship with the Family, so much so that he was often invited to functions that other ambassadors wouldn't be privy to.

Just before he exited the car, he rang his wife, Karen. She had already heard the news, so she figured he wouldn't be home for awhile. She told her husband to let her know when he thought he would be there. Karen Johanssen was herself among the good and great of Busukuma society; in just 2 1/2 years, she established herself as one the top hostesses and prominent volunteers in the community.

He was shown through to the private residence and saw several members of the family there, obviously in varying emotional states. He spoke to one of them who seemed to be holding together. "How is the Luguba? My Prime Minister is especially concerned for her."
He was told that she was being kept in her suite, with a few of the women of the court to keep watch over her.

He went around and spoke individually to the various family members, expressing his sympathy. He wasn't just being diplomatic; he had a lot of personal respect for the Kabaka and knew that earning the trust of the Royal Family in the way he had wasn't something to take for granted.

Having nothing to do but kill time, Johanssen stepped into a small sitting room that no one was occupying and began to make several calls. He had a feeling that he was going to be needing to figure out how to accommodate the PM and the Head sooner rather than later.

The Scene is set at the Stadium of the Restoration in Busukuma, National Capitol Region, Banija

Mwanga was standing center stage, here at the Stadium of the Restoration. The traditional home of coronations and regal funerals, the stadium had been packed, just one week before, not to watch the Kadongo Kamu play Xanneria, as originally scheduled, but to pay the last respects to the Kabaka. And as per Banijan tradition, foreign diplomats were not invited. A strange tradition, one would think, but of course, with the coronation taking place so soon after, that was the preferred event to have all of the foreign dingnatiries. But still, every living former Katikkiro, member of the Royal Family, the entirety of the bishops of the Mormon church in Banija, and 90,000+ other well watchers, were at the royal funeral. And now, of course, it was time for the inauguration.

The Patriarch of Herzegovina began to give his introduction to the ceremony. On stage with him were many of the prominent foreign dignitaries who were invited to this lavish ceremony. "I would like to thank the Almighty God for bringing us together here, for the coronation of the next Kabaka, for the celebration and start of the dawn of a new era in Banija, the reign of Mwanga." And with that, he led the whole crowd in a short, traditional prayer. "This witnessing of a new era is important. We must come together, in this time of celebration. The tragedy that was the death of His Majesty, Albert III, was terrible for all of us. The first Kabaka to die since the Banijan Civil War, over 200 years ago, is something that cannot be easily forgotten."

"This ceremony has developed over the years. From being a simple chief, to the ceremony of an Emperor, and now, the ceremony of the Kabaka. From before the founding of the faith that now binds our nation together, from before our involvement in the world, there was elements of this ceremony. But still, we have added and subtracted throughout the years, with various making changes. And we are at the very site of where a Banijan monarch, in a sad wave of tribal violence, died to defend his country." The phrase that history is in the eye of the beholder was almost perfectly coined for that exact moment. Regardless, the Patriarch continued. "Let us remember the sacrifices of those who made it possible for our nation to be where we are today, and to celebrate where Mwanga will lead us next."

A short pause, and then, of course, he continued. "First- bring out the fisherman's ring!" And the ring, passed down from generations since Banija's final independence in 1906, was carried over, in glass casing, to Mwanga. The Patriarch turned to face Mwanga, who stood with his hand out, facing the old man. "The ring is the symbol of the importance of your role in the church. The state must defend the religious tenants of this nation. The values of Mormonism, keeping our nation's Mormon character, and our Mormon beliefs. You, as the head of state, are it's leader. Being the fisher of men means that you must keep true to the faith, the faith of your fathers and their grandfathers, and as the leader of the sole nation that has a majority of their population as a member of the Puritan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and the leader of a people to whom the Almighty, through the angel Moroni, revealed this faith, you must be a defender of all the faithful, wherever they are. You must defend all the people, all the time. Do you accept this responsibility?"

Mwanga looked at him, and almost yelled into the microphone. "I do." He said, loudly, and clearly, with authority. ANd at that moment, a large candle, also in center stage, was lit.

The Patriarch continued. "Now, the representatives of the people must declare their loyalty to you." And the Katikkiro picked that moment to walk up. The Patriarch put a copy of the Book of Mormon in front of him, and he put his hand on it. He then turned to Mwanga, and then started to speak.

"Your Majesty," he declared. "I do swear, freely and without reservation, loyalty to you, the throne, your successors, and this country. So help me God." And, one by one, each elected member of the Lukiiko did exactly that. All 500 of them. While they did it fairly efficiently, this was not something that ever going to be a fast process. Always one of the boring parts of the ceremony. But finally, it was over. The Patriarch then continued.

"Your Majesty," he said. "Now, the bishops will declare their loyalty to you." And, one by one, all 26 Banijan bishops declared their loyalty to Mwanga, and their recognition of him as defender of the faith. The Patriarch then continued. "Now, I must go through the establishment of each of the titles that you are about to ascend to."

"You are to be the head of the Royal House of Katende. Your family members, both older and younger than you in years, will look to you to lead the family. You must be prepared to fill that role. You are the direct successors of the historic Shujaas(Chiefs) of the Kasanke Tribe. This is your heritage. The heritage of a majority of this country. You have a direct line to the original pioneers who, almost a thousand years ago, landed on these shores and established Herzegovina, or what is now called Herzegovina City. You are the successor of the Maharajas of this country. From when we originally founded the faith, this title was bestowed on our national leaders. They united Banija's borders into the country that we have today, though minus the Busoga Islands. You inherit their legacy of forming a true nation state, rather than just a land of separate tribes.

"You are the direct successor of Mugisha The Liberator, who ensured that this nation was free from tyranny in the first place. You are the leader of all the tribes of the nation. You are the symbol and source of unity for all Banijans, no matter their ethnic tradition. And lastly, with the ring on your hand, you are the Defender of the Faith. Your Majesty, do you accept these responsibilities?"

Mwanga paused, and then, slowly nodded. "I do." He said. A second large candle was lit. There was just one remaining in the middle.

The Patriarch then continued. "OK, now, we will recognize those whose dignitaries are here. First, of course, to remember the fallen. Kabaka Albert III, the monarch who oversaw many great things in our nation- from the hosting of a World Cup Finals, to the expansion of our country's wealth, he had done a great job. And for Antonio DiMartini- a foreign minister, his career on the rise, who was slain by terrorists in the Northeast. A moment of silence for them." And the stadium got pretty silent- at least, by the standards of 90,000 packed into a stadium.

The Patriarch then continued once again. "I must take the time, right now, to thank the foreign dignitaries who came, to represent their nations, at this crucial juncture in Banijan history. The witnessing of the crowning of the Kabaka is a great honor for us, and your presence here will only serve to deepen ties between our respective nations. We will name the major dignitaries, the ones sitting on stage, right here behind me, for the benefit of the people in the audience, and the millions watching at home and around the country, and the millions more watching at home around the world."

"First, I will name Regent Christine II, of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, acting Head of the Commonwealth." She rose, and there was thunderous applause. This was repeated for each name mentioned. "Our representative here from the Main Nation Ministry. We have Countess Hinata, from the Hinodejin Empire. WE have Collas d’Arcueil, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Obreour Ar Moro. And, of course, we have another fellow royal here, Prince Wangdi, of the Sherpa Empire. We thank all of you for coming to this ceremony. But now, of course, is the time to recognize the heads of state and government, who took the time to come to this ceremony.

It is a great honor to host you in our country- some of you having been here before, and some of you, here for the first time, for this ceremony. President Joachim Fleiss, of Siovanija & Teusland, is leading his nation's delegation today. President Dorigo Dutete, from Filindostan, is here today on behalf of his own country. Qusmyr Qaq, of Qusmo, whom Mwanga met just a few days ago, is here, representing his country. President Bennett, of the Echani Republic, is here today. And, like we have said, our prayers and our hearts go out to you, and your nation, at the loss of your foreign minister. The perpetrators will face the full force of the law.

And lastly, the delegation from Baker Park is strong. President Gregson and Prime Minister Schoenlein, have all travelled here, together. It shows the strength of our relationship that this has happened." And, of course, as they were the last ones mentioned, they received a thunderous applause.

And then, as that died down, exactly four trumpets were played. And then, the regalia was brought out. The crown of the Banijan monarch, that men had been wearing for generations, was being brought out. Four soldiers brought out the crown, and placed it in front of the Patriarch. The Patriarch walked over to Mwanga, who got on one knee, facing North, towards Herzegovina City- the first civilization of the Kasanke, the country's dominant ethnic group. Another bishop walked up with him, with a very fancy, gold plated spear- the spear that signified his role as the Commander-In-Chief.

"Your Majesty, I have come, by the duties given to me by the Constitution, to crown you with the regalia. From here, you shall take your most important title- Kabaka. This title will come before your name, as this job will be your primary purpose. You have inherited it from your father, who inherited it from his father. It is the position of head of state. You will represent this country, and decide its foreign affairs. You will defend it from all enemies, foreign and domestic. You will strengthen our friendships, and most importantly, you will prepare your sons for this job, for this role- to serve as your successor, when God calls you into his Kingdom."

He paused, and then spoke again. "Do you accept these responsibilities?"

Mwanga looked up, and spoke. "I do." He said. And then, the Patriarch placed the crown on his head. He stood up, holding the crown so it wouldn't fall off. The Patriarch then motioned to the other bishop, who handed him the golden spear. As he took it, every Banijan on stage bowed to him, now officially the Kabaka.

After a long bow, the Patriarch got up, and spoke again. "I officially declare you Kabaka Mwanga of Banija!" And there was a thunderous, long applause. THis lasted probably a good three to four minutes- which, of course, he was just crowned. After that, he decided to speak. He thanked each foreign dignitary, by name, for attending the ceremony. He vowed to carry on the legacy that his father had set out. He said that, of course, while carrying on that legacy, he would be his own man. He said he greatly valued Banija's relationships, and specifically mentioned the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, the Commonwealth of Baker Park, and the Echani Republic. He mentioned Swede Johanssen, Baker Park's Ambassador to Banija, and thanked him for being the first one at Mujaguzo when the news broke out. He mentioned the country's two major universities, Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria. And he even mentioned the Kadongo Kamu, and their World Cup Qualifying run.

Finally, he closed his speech. Many applauded as he left the historic stadium, along with many of these heads of states and government. He had things to catch up on. He knew a lot of work had to be done, but still- today was a day for celebration. He was finally wearing the crown, he was finally given the golden spear- the moment he had been waiting his whole life for. Born in tragedy, of course, but that's what happens when you are born a royal. The now Kabaka Mwanga looked forward to what would certainly be a challenging start to his reign.

The Red Wagon: The Start of the Curse

After the latest results of the match day were announced in his almanac, Josh phoned Don to bet on Main Nation Ministry, so that he could get his money back. Nevertheless, Don managed to get the amount he wanted, so he wasn't in a debt. After the match day, Josh invited Don to what was technically now Josh's house, as he was preparing a bit of a toast for Don, as he was getting a fine dessert wine from Don's cask. Earlier that day, Josh ordered himself a fish that had enough juice to squeeze and cut out, so that his plan could work. As a bit of a safeguard, Josh went to an Ultralander pharmacy to buy some sleeping pills, where when questioned about the payment of the pills, Josh attempted to give his best acting role as an insomniac. Of course, the man at the desk saw through his lie immediately. "Look, bud. If I hear some story about some overdose. I will call the fucking soldiers to arrest your ass. If you're the one who overdoses, you going to cost me my job." the pharmacist said, looking a dirty look.

Now Josh was at Don's home in the afternoon, prepping a wine glass full of a gargle blaster to kill him. Josh made sure that the pills dissolved, so they didn't become noticeable when he pours the wine. A doorbell was heard at front door, where he answered it to see Don. "Josh? I got the money back. I think it's about time we swap back places." Don said, as he went in the house. "How about I have the place for a little while? You don't even take care of this dump." Josh said, where Don look annoyed. "I take better care of my house, than that trash house that you left to be neglected."
"Hey! Your house was a mess, until I came along!"
"Dear god.. Look, just let me rest in here. I do-"
"It's my house and it always have been my house, Don."

Don looked at Josh in disbelief over the sheer lack of awareness and immaturity he was showing. "Dude, you're literally mooching over all of my stuff!" Don yelled at Josh, where he slammed the door shut. "Don, listen. You're clearly confused. Take a seat. I can give you some wine to chill." Josh said, as he went to pour a glass of wine for Don, including himself. "How is wine going to get rid of the fact that you're technically stealing my house?!" Don said, where Josh came to the living room, where he beckons Don to sit down. "Have some wine. We can easily think about this." Josh said, as he brought the wine glasses to the coffee table. Naturally, when Don took the one that Josh wanted him to take, he was visibly smiling. "What's up with you? Like, I know you're my friend, but I never figured that you would be this much of a douche bag. Why have you always been so self-destructive?" Don asked, where Josh sipped his wine glass. "Oh please! People treat me like shit for my whole life! Always telling me what to do and how they all want to control my life! I never had the freedom to do whatever I want!" Josh said, sipping his wine.

"That's because you were always bitching to people that they suck and worthless. How are you so blind? I thought you were more smarter than this?" Don said, which was the time that he finally took the bait. He took a hearty sip of the wine, without realizing that he drank himself to death. The wine helped masked the taste of shellfish and the pills. "I'm smart, Don. Smart enough to get back at those idiots who think they can just say anything about me, where if I say something they just hound me." Josh said. "Man, you're just..ughh..I don't..my throat.." Don suddenly dropped his wine glass, as he gripped his throat. "The hell did you! Josh!" Don sat up, as he was starting to lose air. Josh simply stood up and avoided Don as he started to look for epi-pens to use in the house. He ran in the bathroom, unaware that Josh had disposed of his pens in the trash before he arrived.

Following Don a bit as he ran back near the living room, Josh saw him try to use his cell phone to call for paramedics, however Josh immediately shoved him towards the coffee table, where he immediately shattered it with his whole body. Josh saw the scene unfold, where he decided to walk to the door. After the body gets found, Josh could claim to be a heir to Don's estate, which to Josh would seem to work, but was actually not how it was supposed to work. Leaving the lights on and closing the door behind him, Josh was about to head back to his own house before the neighbors called for patrol. As he walked down the street, he heard the wind start to pick up in the street, where he noticed someone in front of him. "What the.. It's you?" Josh said, recognizing the girl with the red wagon.

"You made a horrible mistake. I figured you wouldn't have a change of heart, yet I was 100% right. The sins that you made is enough to know that you can't go back."
"Oh please! He deserved it! He treated me like shit!" Josh said, as the girl reached into the bag to get herself a chocolate bar.
"No. The truth is that you're just so self-centered and bitter of reality, your only wish is just leaving it."
"Oh yeah?! The hell are you going to do now? Kill me?"

"No. I'm just going to make your life worst, until you get my point." the girl said, where she snapped the chocolate bar in two. That was when Josh felt what appeared to be someone stabbing him directly into his heart. Josh screamed, as he knelled to the sidewalk. "What did you do!?" Josh screamed, as he was starting to have a heart attack. Josh looked up to see the girl with the red wagon walking away.

And then things gone black.

Henry drove his car by, as he saw an ambulance drive down the streets with it's sirens on. "Well. Someone must have died." Henry thought, as he pulled into his driveway, carrying the groceries from the store to the front door with one hand and having his walking cane in the other. "Crap." Henry cursed to himself, as he had the groceries to his chest, as he fumbled in his pocket for the keys. Managing to unlock the door, Henry set the groceries on the counter of the kitchen, where he went to look for Diana. "Diana?" he called out for her, as he looked around the house. "Hello? I'm home!" he called out again. "Honey, I'm at the patio!" Henry heard Diana said, where he headed over to the lounge that was where the screen door to the patio was.

He saw her staring through the screen door to see the birds outside. "What're you doing, honey?" Henry walked over. "They like the new birdhouse that I found in the basement." Diana said, where Henry looked outside to see the yellow birdhouse hanging at the patio. Diana didn't seem to notice that Henry himself had literally froze in his tracks in horror. "Oh no..." Henry started to get the screen door open. "Honey, what are you doing?" "You weren't supposed to find that! No one was!" Henry said, as he started to fast walk towards the birdhouse, until he manages to trip. Using his hands, he managed to accidentally fall off from the patio and into the cobblestone path that led to the garden. Diana heard a crack, as Henry started to cry out in pain.

"Call a doctor! I think I sprained an ankle!" Henry yelled for Diana to call a doctor.

WHAT IS HAPPENING

QUSMO of ALL PEOPLE is subbmitting their RP SIXTEEN HOURS before the cutof? WHAT IS GOING ON??????

Avarn-Oxolt Ban stepped up to the microphone again. The setting was much the same as their previous press conferences, but the mood was decidedly sombre. Avarn-Oxolt cleared their throat & prepared for the onslaught to come.

“Reports claim that you have had crisis talks with Fuzpon Qusma & rumours say that they have given you an ultimatum for tomorrow. If Qusmo doesn’t win tomorrow, will you have a job in two days’ time?”

“We will win. Next question.”

“The failures of the Alluersia match have been widely attributed to the players’ mental stress because of the fraught geopolitical situation in the country. As the manager, to what degree do you feel responsible for leaving your players psychologically unprepared?”

“I don’t feel we were unprepared; we just didn’t perform. Next question.”

“Does the fact that Qusmo was outscored by four goals against Mattijana in the second half despite leading three-one at halftime suggest that the team is overreliant on Ilinx-Kepex Zev?”

“Ilinx-Kepex Zev is a great player, but we win & we lose as a team. Next question.”

“If Qusmo lose tomorrow, it will have matched its record competitive winless run & will be on pace to match Qusmo’s points total from its World Cup 80 Qualifying campaign. Has the national team made any progress since you first took over?”

“Yes, it has, & we will see it tomorrow. Next question.”

“In sixty-three competitive matches, you have employed a 3-5-2 sixty times, with all three exceptions coming in World Cup 80 Qualifying. Do you believe your tactical inflexibility is hurting Qusmo’s chances of success?”

“No, I believe our consistency comes from the fact that the 3-5-2 best fits our personnel & our tactics. Next question.”

“The lone result Qusmo has had against a top hundred opponent in the current campaign is Mytanija, which is on a winless run even longer than Qusmo’s own & only just snapped a five-match losing streak, longer than any in Qusmo’s history. Given Qusmo’s other matches against such opposition were multi-goal defeats, can Qusmo beat quality opposition?”

“Yes, we’ve demonstrated that in the past, & we’ll demonstrate that again tomorrow. Next question.”

“If Qusmo loses tomorrow, they will fall ten points behind Saltstead with only nine matches to go & will likely be seven points behind Cosumar. Is it possible to bridge either of those gaps?”

“We will win. Next question.”

“If Qusmo fails to win tomorrow, it could win every match it plays throughout the entirety of the second half of the qualifiers & still not qualify for the World Cup. If Qusmo fails to win, is it all but eliminated from contention for qualification?”

“We will win tomorrow. Next question.”

“For four consecutive matches, you have made multiple changes to the Starting XI, including three changes in the past two. Is this a sign that the team is in crisis & that you don’t trust or perhaps don’t know your own players?”

“No, it shows we have a lot of players who can step up when their teammates are out of form. Next question.”

“Are you capable of leading Qusmo to a World Cup?”

“Yes. Next question.”

“Make your case to Fuzpon Qusma & to the Qusma public: why shouldn’t you be sacked?”

Avarn-Oxolt paused. “The results are what matters, & if we look at what they’ve been throughout my whole tenure, they have been very good. We’ve come so far, from being unranked at the beginning of the eightieth cycle to taking third place in the Cup of Harmony at the end of the eighty-first, to expecting great things at the beginning of the eighty-second. This is a hiccough in the road, but we will win tomorrow, & we will use that as our turning point to get Qusmo back to the level we all know it can & ought to be.”

“& if you don’t win?”

“Thank you all for your questions. I’ll see you tomorrow after the match.”

Fuzpon Qusma has given Avarn-Oxolt Ban an ultimatum: win against Saltstead or face the sack. If Qusmo fails to win against Saltstead, then, Fuzpon Qusma will be in need of a new manager. If Fuzpon Qusma hires a domestic candidate, Tlanx-Nulzk Hal would be the clear frontrunner. However, Fuzpon Qusma is open to hiring a foreign manager as well. If a manager from your nation is interested, please send me the name of your candidate or candidates, as well as their ideal style modifier & formation & a summary of who they are, where they’ve managed, & what they’ve done. You can start sending in applicants before Matchday Nine’s scorination, though I will only take them if Qusmo fails to win, because I would like to announce Qusmo’s next manager before Matchday Ten if Qusmo fails to win on Matchday Nine. You can contact me via either TG or Discord, though I would prefer the latter, as I don’t want to clog my TG inbox.

When Apostolos Tsattalios pulled on that indigo jersey, he felt like a man reborn.
He pretty much was a man reborn. Certainly, he was looking at taking up the gloves in a whole new, much more positive light. Once, not so long ago, they'd been a burden to him. He'd been a burden to the team - at least, that was the perception. Three goals past him from Turori in WC80, four from Vilita in 81... and he took the blame.
Nephara was meant to be a place that liked their goalkeepers, but something about Tsattalios' high-risk, high-movement, confidence-reliant game that just got the jitters through people. Maybe his mistake was that he'd watched Diandra Ballard as a kid and wondered why she treated the ball like her fiercest enemy, when it could be a friend. And, okay, he had had a few bad games at terrible timing.
Aidan Brosque hadn't even called to tell him he was off the team for the Copa Rushmori. He found out like everyone else did, when the squad was announced.
So, yeah. He'd thought it was over. Was surprised as anyone else when he got the call from Brosque like nothing had happened, saying he was in the squad for Tinhampton and Walenstein. Surprised even more when he actually had a game to play at the end of it. Okay, so it was pretty much entirely second-string, but even so. He was here. He could work his way back. Maybe not over Swoboda, who was in the form of his life where Tsattalios had peaked... last year, without international football to stress about. And Mercator was five years younger. But who else was really raising their hand to wear that 20? Matraxis, relegated with Creed? Ramelow, still uncapped? If all else failed, and they had to turn to someone in a time of need... why not Nephara's second-most capped goalkeeper?
Anyway. Before any talk of the World Cup - and Brosque was the first to say they didn't deserve to be at the Cup at all if they couldn't at least come first in the group - Walenstein had to be handled, beaten down, made the humble. They'd done well so far, maybe even started to dream of second place and the Cup.
"We're gonna take that dream," Brosque told them in their cramped, stained dressing room, "and we're gonna strangle it in the fucking crib."

In the event, the dream proved somewhat more resilient than that.
The Cormorants got the party started just two minutes in, a long diagonal ball from Kielseng finding Marisha Staunton - not a physical presence, not really a goalscorer - unmarked. Staunton practically stumbled to try and dive forward and get a head on it, she managed to skim the ball off the outside of the post. The sight of the lanky, slight Staunton trying to head the ball made Aristide Metzger laugh openly. The tone was set for a party, right?
Well, there weren't many smiles on their faces by half-time - indeed, the only real emotion was relief. After forty minutes of hammering and hammering, and one real moment of panic which Tsattalios had managed to stifle running out and saving one-on-one in the aftermath of a wayward Thorn pass, Nephara had finally broken through. This time it was Vicelich turning provider, turning forward and inside from leftback before passing across to Circe Rosenthal. The Directus midfielder took a touch, took her time and took the ball into the bottom corner. Her celebration was muted, which suited her - didn't stop the exuberant Shone practically spear-tackling her with a relief that mirrored the rest of the team.
The second half was similarly tough going - even Brosque was having to beg them for more inspiration and less perspiration, because the space wasn't there. Walenstein knew their best chance lay in keeping down the score, holding back, and hoping the counter would do something for them. But the Cormorants were cautious, weren't in the habit of choking leads. Josie Webster took the ball out to the edge of the box before centring a hard ball to control - Metzger, who hadn't had the best of days, managed impressively to chest it down, swivel and drive a shot past the goalkeeper to double the lead.
Walenstein had to react. To their credit, they did. Tsattalios made a fairly comfortable save from distance, tipping a strike around the post. He caught a cross. His distribution was on point. Things were going fucking brilliantly - he was even going to get a clean sheet on his return!
At least, he was, until Lux Vicelich failed to shepherd a winger out of trouble and got caught out of position by a cross that slammed into her hand. For a moment, the referee missed it. The linesman did not - a penalty, with just two minutes left, was the result.
At times like this, Tsattalios had to wonder if he was cursed. "Are you fucking kidding me?" he asked the football Gods, braced for the spot-kick, and was sent the wrong way.
