Soccer League X

“Northeastern Atlantian Oceania's BEST
Independent Association Football!”

Country: 95X
Region: Atlantian Oceania
Founded: 95X Year 43
Folded: 95X Year 69
Number of Teams: 10 (from Season 19)
Level on Pyramid: 1
International Cups: UICA,
Atlantian Oceania Champions' League
Most Championships: SC Oceanside (8)
Domestic TV: XBN

Soccer League X was the top-level soccer/association football league in 95X. In season 19 the league began its current format, where ten teams play each other four times in a thirty-six match regular season. The top five teams advance to various rounds of the Soccer League X Playoffs, culminating in the Soccer League X Championship Game. Unlike many others, the league did not feature promotion and relegation.

As of Season 20, five teams have won the Championship: SC Oceanside (8), Spatula City (5), Port Chester Ladybugs (3), SC Cascadia (2), and Mount Barry (1).

International Competition Qualification

As of Season 20, 95X currently qualifies for two UICA Champions' Cup places, which are presently allocated as one spot for the team with the best regular season record and one spot for the winner of the Championship. If the same team earns both the best regular season record and the Championship, the Championship Runner-Up is awarded the second Champions' Cup place.

As a member of Atlantian Oceania, 95X qualifies to send its league champions to the Atlantian Oceania Champions' League (AOCL). The winner of the Championship Game receives this place.

40,000 at Oceanside Stadium watched Xi Foureleven give SC Oceanside a one goal lead wih only twenty-nine minutes remaining. With the crowd working against Twentytwo Cacti, Katelynn State scored an answer off a corner kick with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Additional time saw well-balanced play by each side, and the match seemed destined for penalty kicks. However, with the final minute winding down, a quick move by a sneaky Sisann Riel gave him a chance near a crowded box as several players from each side fight for position. Riel kicks, he scores! The crowd boos! Oceanside's coaching staff is screaming something at the referee, and Oceanside's replay screen operator shows Cacti midfielder Alma Riverfront shove Oceanside defender Andreas Concord away from the ball. The referee meets briefly with the other officials, and relay their decision to each team, both of whom are too emotional to determine what happened from their jumping and screaming.

That's when the public address announcer states in a neutral tone: "Final score after additional time: Twentytwo Cacti 2, Oceanside 1."

The announcer continued, however the audience booing became louder and violent, with fistfights breaking out and the truly disrespectful throwing things onto the field. Seconds later, someone threw a glass bottle covered with a rag onto the field, causing the immediate evacuation of the entire stadium.

The next day, Soccer League X announced that SC Oceanside would be fined 150% of the ticket revenue from hosting the game, and is disqualified from hosting the next SLX Championship they qualify to host.

Off-the-Pitch Notes (Includes items that aren't known in-character.)
- The feel-good story of the season came near its midpoint, as Jordyn Third was enjoying a dinner date with her husband. That's when word reached her that a young fan in attendance at Gateway's previous home game was involved in a serious traffic accident on their way home (her bicycle was hit by a transport truck). They mutually agreed to cancel the date and Jordyn visited the fan at the hospital. Several days later, the fan slipped into a coma and didn't make it. When the parents of the fan contacted the Thirds to thank them for their generous use of their time and "most goodwill a public figure ever gave them." the Thirds later met with them for twenty minutes to console them on their loss, where Jordyn said she'd dedicate her performance that season to her memory. This not only raised eyebrows in a good way, it created quite a buzz for Gateway the remainder of the season and national attention as they tried to make the playoffs.

- Sisann Riel asked to be released from his contract. After his nation CTE'd, his teammates supported him and he was taken in as one of Cactus' own, but it feels strange because he isn't from there. Riel did not play in Twentytwo Cacti's MD 27 match at SC Cascadia so he could meet with team and league officials to find out if there was a way out of his contract. He was encouraged him to finish the season and the league agreed to help him any way they could so he could find the right place.

- Shortly following the final game of the season, Jordyn Third was privately told it was her final game in a Gateway Force kit. Gateway is a working-class city with very little affluence that's lucky to have pro teams. Even if she were to renegotiate for less money, the team cannot afford to keep her. As postseason press conferences in Gateway and Cactus were about to begin where her being sold to Twentytwo Cacti would be publicly announced, an outside group calling itself "the Fourth Force" came forward with enough money to not only keep Third but also have a bit left over, in exchange for partial ownership (it's illegal to just give a company money in 95X). A majority of the funds came from some of the countries' richest cities: Pacific City, University City, Cascadia, and even Oceanside; paperwork included disclosure information proving the group had no connections with any other teams.

- Xi Foureleven has privately told her agent that, despite her unwanted agelessness, she is deciding which season will be her last. Nothing concrete. SC Oceanside begins closed-door work on the highly secretive "Plan Sandcastle."

- The Brooklyn Cultures, owned by the Capital of Culture Creamery and best known for Capital of Culture Yogurt, conduct market research determining that different, more recognizable players could help them sell more yogurt. Brooklyn has been a successful yet plain team with little notoriety and talented yet unrecognized players. Falling out of the playoffs the final day of the season confirmed it was time for a change.

- With overall interest in the Spatula City Utensils registered by at least two other regular members of the NS Sports community, and their in-character quest to regain the prominence they once enjoyed, I'm making them the officially unofficial 'international team' if you will. IC, this means they're more likely to sign foreign players, and SLX will be offering both international TV and audio feeds as well as fully-produced broadcasts to interested foreign markets. As always, foreign press are welcome to negotiate with the teams directly for press box, press photography, etc., access.

- In either season 22 or 23, the recently reinstated Port Chester Ladybugs will rebrand and rename to Port Chester FC.

Soccer League X Season 22 (1/4)

Postby 95X » Wed Nov 18, 2015 2:29 pm

Soccer League X
Season 22 · 95X Year 64

MD 1
Oceanside 2–0 Twentytwo Cacti
(Foureleven :15, Leadbetter :88)

The season opener involved a rematch of last year's championship game. Both teams fielded somewhat different starting lineups while keeping their most recognizable players. The balance in the opening minutes was broken when Xi Foureleven exploited holes in the Cacti defense, giving Oceanside an early lead. Alessandra Leadbetter added to it in the closing minutes as SC Oceanside "expects" another championship and a strong showing in the upcoming Champions' Cup.

SC Cascadia 1–2 Spatula City
(Roork :9; Alcouin :38 :76)

Cascadia Bank Stadium hosted a huge crowd for a highly-anticipated matchup between the city's favorite team and the new-look Spatula City Utensils. The home crowd cheered on SC Cascadia to quickly take the lead. Spatula City, fielding three returning starters (Hannah Alcouin [USI], Jacoby Maltby, and Stacey Sunset), quickly regrouped. Alanna Rhus and Clay Beaverton, two SLX veterans who came to the Utensils in a trade with the Cascadia Seafox, started creating opportunities for Alcouin and others. The strategy worked and the game was tied at halftime. Possession in the second half went in favor of the Utensils, who'd go on to win.

Brooklyn 1–0 Pacific City
(Oneseventysixth :25)

Port Chester 1–2 Cascadia Seafox
(Eleventh :20; Beck :8, Powers :83)

Millennium City 0–0 Gateway

MD 2
Twentytwo Cacti 1–0 Gateway
(Oregonia :35)

Cascadia Seafox 3–0 Millennium City
(Syblon :14, Powers :39, Twelfth :52)

Pacific City 0–0 Port Chester

Spatula City 1–0 Brooklyn
(Rhus :67)

Oceanside 0–0 SC Cascadia

MD 3
SC Cascadia 0–1 Twentytwo Cacti
(State :67)

Brooklyn 0–0 Oceanside

Carrie Camassia, a former distance runner signed by the Brooklyn Cultures in their quest to sell more yogurt for corporate parent Capital of Culture Creamery, was listed as a midfielder on the roster. That didn't stop her from keeping pace with Xi Foureleven the entire match, keeping not only her but both teams from the score sheet. The high-fives from creamery executives would have to wait, as the Cultures' relatively weak offense couldn't find the net.

Port Chester 0–3 Spatula City
(Rhus :8, Alcouin :41, Sunset :88)

Port Chester's second run in Soccer League X is as an 'also-ran,' a far cry from the team that once won a Globe Cup. The older stadium, low fan support, and poor performance merely highlight the fact. The Utensils took advantage.

Millennium City 3–2 Pacific City
(Yorkton :41 :72, Euclid :46; Putnam :27 :64)

Gateway 1–0 Cascadia Seafox
(Ninetieth :45+1)

The home opener was anything but a warm welcome for the 0-1-1 Gateway Force, who hoped for a strong start to the season. Jordyn Third, whom fans wanted to have in Gateway following last season, was booed by some of those same fans during the intros and when she had possession. Some shouted slurs. Despite claiming she was okay as her husband forgave her antics during the Emperor's Cup, she played poorly in this one. Gateway would win, but Third went to the Force's women's locker room following the game shrouded in shame as anti-fans threw items at her that were most definitely not balloons.

MD 4
Twentytwo Cacti 2–1 Cascadia Seafox
(State :22, Samster :65; Beck :33)

Pacific City 0–1 Gateway
(Third :89)

Spatula City 1–0 Millennium City
(Beaverton :86)

Oceanside 1–0 Port Chester
(Foureleven :70)

SC Cascadia 1–0 Brooklyn
(Beaverton :89)

MD 5
A day full of surprising early upsets!

Brooklyn 1–0 Twentytwo Cacti
(Oneseventysixth :78)

Port Chester 1–0 SC Cascadia
(Burton :8)

Port Chester Ladybugs' Defender Lorena Burton surprised even herself when she scored the game's only goal against heavily-favored SC Cascadia.

Millennium City 2–0 Oceanside
(Yorkton :5 :34)

Oceanside's veterans underestimated a player they knew was unpredictable: Alyssa Yorkton. Short but built like a table with four legs in diagonal directions and can move in any direction at any time without slowing down or turning around, the early goal energized fans chanting, "beat Oceanside!", and "me, too!" (the antifan Xi Foureleven chant since her marriage). The second goal put Millennium City on top for good.

Gateway 0–1 Spatula City
(Sunset :31)

Jordyn Third's home woes continue as Spatula City was cheered on for the away win.

Cascadia Seafox 1–3 Pacific City
(Chambers :14; Polk :32 :57, Chelan :41)

Center midfielder Evan Chambers scored first for the Seafox. The Nationals rallied inside the Cascade Dome, as Isiah Polk scored on a throw-in and Alaina Chelan split the defense shortly before halftime. Polk scored the exclamation point twelve minutes into the second half, as Seafox fans filed for the exits and even the public address announcer realized the Nationals' local fans were the majority of remaining spectators.

MD 6
Twentytwo Cacti 3–0 Pacific City
(Oregonia :30 :68, Riverfront :63)

Alma Riverfront's a quiet, distributive midfielder on a team with lots of talent. When she makes the score sheet, it's time for the opposition to rethink their defense.

Spatula City 5–2 Cascadia Seafox
(Alcouin :24 :39, Sunset :34 :88, Beaverton :83; Powers :3, Twelfth :64)

The early lead for the Seafox lasted only twentyone minutes as Alcouin and Sunset scored three first half goals for the Utensils. Not only did Alcouin have an excellent game and came just shy of a hat trick twice, Stacey Sunset was beginning the best season of her young career as well. Utensils' chairperson and corporate mouthpiece Lisa Vrandenburg overheard two fans describe Alcouin and Sunset as 'water and sunlight leading to boiled Seafox.'

Oceanside 1–1 Gateway
(Foureleven :41; Third :62)

The first meeting between the most admired and least admired players in Soccer League X led to a rare sight: Xi Foureleven exchanging pleasantries with Jordyn Third following the draw. The two were rumored as seen at a speakeasy after the game, although others there at the same time describe large gaps in their memories.

SC Cascadia 0–0 Millennium City

Brooklyn 3–0 Port Chester
(Oneseventysixth :14, Camassia :49, Central :75)

Carrie Camassia scores her first goal off a spoon of Creamy Ann Delicious. Buy Capital of Culture Yogurt!

MD 7
Port Chester 1–0 Twentytwo Cacti
(Honeywood :82)

Millennium City 1–0 Brooklyn
(Yorkton :33)

Gateway 0–1 SC Cascadia
(Roork :44)

Cascadia Seafox 1–0 Oceanside
(Syblon :21)

Pacific City 0–2 Spatula City
(Stefansen :45, Alcouin :71)

MD 8
Twentytwo Cacti 0–1 Spatula City
(Rhus :38)

Oceanside 1–0 Pacific City
(Foureleven :61)

SC Cascadia 1–0 Cascadia Seafox
(Sumitsu :9)

Brooklyn 0–0 Gateway

Port Chester 0–1 Millennium City
(Boateng :64)

MD 9
Millennium City 0–3 Twentytwo Cacti
(State :67 :80, Oregonia :70)

First game of a nationally-televised doubleheader.

Gateway 1–0 Port Chester
(Third :33)

Fans left the game after Jordyn Third's goal. Out of the nine-thousand or so who attended, about a thousand remained for the rest of the game.

Cascadia Seafox 6–1 Brooklyn
(Powers :5 :81, Beck :22 :44, Elkton :40, Syblon :66; Denver :10)

Pacific City 0–1 SC Cascadia
(Reid :25)

Spatula City 1–2 Oceanside
(Alcouin :68; Foureleven :17, Apperatto :73)

XBN broadcast a nationwide doubleheader, pushing the start of the first meeting for most anticipated matchup of the season to 9 PM. The fact 95X is on a year-round hour-ahead time zone offset helped foreign audiences. Spatula City brought their 8-0 start into the game. Xi Foureleven answered the critics claims she'd softened, shaking off defenders Natalie Burns and Mikkel Johansson for the first goal of the game. It'd be 1-0 Oceanside going into halftime.

Shortly after play resumed, Spatula City's Clay Beaverton ran into Brittany Threefiftysecond, knocking her to the ground where she stayed. She'd been hurt. Although the referee determined no misconduct occurred and no cards were issued, Threefiftysecond was removed from the game and sent to the locker room to get checked out while seventeen-year-old Joan Apperatto was subbed in, slightly out of position, to replace her.

Hannah Alcouin tied the game on a corner kick, which lifted the atmosphere of the eight-thousand Spatula City supporters in the stands buoyed by coffee and energy drinks. Even one point against a wounded Oceanside would suffice, they thought.

But that's when the mystery of true youth would shine for Apperatto. Without the usual butterflies of young players in pressure situations, she'd already realized the Utensils defense was focused on Oceanside's veterans. Oceanside resumed play and minutes later she found herself with the ball as opportunity knocked. She took the shot and watched as it sailed into the goal. It'd be the game winner for Oceanside, and Xi Foureleven complimented Apperatto for being "adequate."

Oceanside had won the first meeting of the season, but there'd be three more to go.

SC Oceanside's Off-Season

Postby 95X » Sun Dec 13, 2015 1:40 pm

Only days after SC Oceanside won the Soccer League X Championship, starting defender Tameka Ninetyseventh received a phone call from a friend.

“You at home and sitting down?” her friend asked.

“Yeah, I just finished my workout, only have a few days to prepare for internationals.”

“Don’t get up, turn on AOSN!” her friend exclaimed.

Ninetyseventh powered on her TV and tuned to AOSN, unfazed at first, as they talked about SC Oceanside’s championship on penalty kicks. Her eyes opened wide and she dropped the phone as the graphics change.

“Tameka Ninetyseventh sold to Schottia’s Handon United,” the bottom of the screen read, as the commentators noted the United play in a country unknown to most 95Xers and missed even the Globe Cup.

A day later, she received a call from her agent, who said: “Oceanside management acted alone. I found out the same way you did.”

Ninetyseventh felt betrayed. As a professional she realized the team made a business decision without consulting anyone else first, but would carry a chip on her shoulder against them the rest of her career.

All in all, Oceanside had a good run in the Champions’ Cup and AOCL, advancing out of group stage in both yet falling to an Apoxian side in the former and a Calanian side in the latter. Ninetyseventh’s replacement, Erik Hunt, quickly picked up on his new team’s style of play and the critics in the stands and the media objectively noted he was a good addition to the team, even though losing Ninetyseventh was the cost.

Oceanside’s staff seemed to notice Xi Foureleven seemed to have added a few pounds, which wasn’t like her at all. This was brought up with the team physicians and led to a strange appointment attended by Xi, her husband Bo, and her ‘agent’ Jason NinetyfiveX.

A team of doctors walked in and introduced themselves, as an older man looked at Xi, removed his bifocals, and blinked.

Xi glared at him, thinking he was about to say or do something unprofessional even though her husband was right there.

“Mrs. Foureleven,” he says, “it really is you! I’m not surprised you don’t remember me, you were only twenty-four when I was the doctor on hand at the indoor soccer championship.”

Foureleven remembered exactly what he was talking about, and continued to view him with suspicion as she continued giving him her cold, indifferent stare. She disliked being seen by male doctors at the time, and long since normally refused care by male physicians.

“Why are you here?” she bluntly asked.

The doctor cut to the chase.

“You’re not cleared to play this upcoming soccer season. You’re—”

Meanwhile, on the snow-covered mountaintops of Cascade Island, a long “no!” was heard in the distance, which seemed to come from a physician’s office in Oceanside. Some of the snow shifted, and those who tracked the conditions were concerned of possible avalanches.

“Honey, that’s great!” Bo replies to the doctor’s news.

Xi smacked him across the face and stormed out of the room, leaving awkward silence between the doctors, Bo, and NinetyfiveX.

“I don’t get it,” Bo tried to reason. “We talked about our strange dreams one night during the off-season and we both agreed.”

NineyfiveX knew logic wouldn’t solve this.

“Bo, have you ever heard of the saying ‘if a man says something when nobody else is around to hear him, is he sill wrong?' This is one of those times.”

Xi Foureleven will miss a majority of the upcoming season as well as the upcoming AOCAF 49.

X SC 1–0 Port Chester
Brooklyn 0–1 Spatula City
Oceanside 1–0 Cascadia Seafox

Jordyn Third's debut in a Pacific City Nationals uniform is spoiled with their season-opening away loss to Twentytwo Cacti. Contenders SC Cascadia and Spatula City won their openers, as did expansion X SC. Oceanside's victory came in front of 9,495 at Oceanside Stadium, which is low considering the 40,000 capacity.

Pacific City 2–2 Cascadia Seafox
Spatula City 1–0 Oceanside
Port Chester 0–1 Brooklyn
Millennium City 3–1 X SC
Twentytwo Cacti 1–0 SC Cascadia

The Spatula City Utensils defeat SC Oceanside in their home opener, when the Oceanside players realize: not only is Xi Foureleven their best offensive player, she's also their best defensive player and was able to fill the holes the rest of the team had. It's going to be a long way to the midseason break for AOCAF 49, and even longer before Foureleven is able to return.

Oceanside 2–0 Twentytwo Cacti
Cascadia Seafox 1–0 Millennium City

Five games into the season, Jordyn Third earns her first goal for Pacific City, which would lead to their first win of the season. Only 8,701 watched Oceanside take on Twentytwo Cacti at their home stadium. The other Cascade Island teams all added wins to their records.

MD 6
Pacific City 1–1 Port Chester
Millennium City 2–4 Spatula City
Twentytwo Cacti 3–0 Cascadia Seafox

Port Chester surprised Pacific City in the final minutes, leading to another draw for the Nationals. Hannah Alcouin and Stacey Sunset were surprisingly cheered for in Millennium City, as the higher-scoring win propelled the Utensils to the top of the early standings. SC Cascadia dealt Oceanside another loss.

With the nation's best players taking part in AOCAF 49, Soccer League X scheduled an extended break. It would be time for players and teams to take an honest evaluation of themselves, and speculation over when Xi Foureleven would return was on the minds of her fans as well as SC Oceanside's real supporters. Thanks in part to a popular video game, Hannah Alcouin of the Spatula City Utensils seemed to become a new national favorite despite being a foreign player. SC Cascadia, playing in by far the largest stadium (seating capacity: 100,000) benefited from increased interest and ticket sales as a result of their first-place standings. The biggest loser? XBN, who reports extremely low viewership of televised games despite good performances by the teams in the largest cities and heavy promotion.

SC Oceanside was up 1-0 in the second half in Brooklyn, when a frantic call was patched through to their sideline. Head Coach Ryan Broadway answered, expecting either a prank or something that could wait until after the game. His eyes opened wide, and he dropped the phone receiver in hysterics. While explaining to the rest of his staff that an emergency happened and he must leave the game, he tries to appoint assistant Ivy Blackstone to lead the team, when she insists she go with him. This frightened the Oceanside bench, leaving Broadway with no choice but to explain what was going on. Everyone started screaming with joy. "But not everyone can come!" Broadway reminded them. "And there will be time later! We have to win this game! That's why Eric [Threetwentythird, another assistant coach] will see to it that everyone else stays here while Blackstone and I go to Pacific City."

Jason Ninetyfivex also got the news, and immediately arrived outside the Pacific City hospital. A media circus had already gathered.

"Go spend your time on something else," Ninetyfivex says aloud to himself, while writing something on a tablet. The reporters scatter upon receipt of various phone calls, and Ninetyfivex is able to make his way into the hospital upon showing his credentials despite the worn-out sweatshirt and jeans that had seen better days. One reporter remained, Valerie Del Rey, a trusted and professional beat reporter with the Oceanside Press-Gazette. After a few hours, the two made rare small talk.

"It's early," she notes while chatting with Ninetyfivex. "Off the record, I was in town at the [Pacific City] Courier, they've taken an interest in my breaking general reporting over the last few years."

"Caught me by surprise, too," Ninetyfivex replied. "And I'm her agent."

Bo Foureleven then appeared in the lobby, relieved to find only the two there thus far.

"Hey, I have you to thank for this?" he asked Ninetyfivex, a bit out of breath.

Ninetyfivex nodded, while asking how 'she' is.

"She's just fine, she's not screaming, crying, sweating, blaming the multiverse for everything, or any of that other stuff," Bo explained.

That's when Broadway and Blackstone arrived.

"We just heard, hurried here as fast as we could on a packed express train," Broadway tried to apologize for the several hours delay. Bo shook his head, indicating they haven't missed anything yet.

"Dr. Allcome," the overhead speaker unexpectedly blared, "Dr. Allcome to room nineteen."

"NO!" Bo and Ninetyfivex yelled simultaneously, while Bo quickly told Ninetyfivex and everyone else to wait in the lobby. Bo ran back to his wife, where he learned it was a precaution given the fact Xi was on bedrest for much of the time, and her status.

Suddenly, the power failed and the emergency generators didn't kick in. The hospital plunged into darkness while staff hurried to attend to patients, and other frantic visitors began to worry.

"She is this powerful," Ninetyfivex reminded the group, although they needed no reminder. Screams were heard, and Del Rey was on her cell phone relaying information to a contact.

The power resumed, shortly thereafter Bo Foureleven powered his way into the lobby with words that became the next day's above the fold headline story on the number one 95X newspaper…

The Day

Postby 95X » Sun Feb 14, 2016 10:32 am

IT'S A GIRL!
95X Soccer Star Xi Foureleven Gives Birth to Sarah Casablanca Foureleven at a Pacific City hospital.
By Valerie Del Rey, special for the Courier.
(Editors' Note: coverage of the day's economic, stock market, business, political, and international news, begins on Page A2.)

Several hours after the birth, Xi Foureleven herself was wheeled out, cradling Sarah in her arms, who appeared to be sleeping.

"Ah, isn't she cute?" was heard by multiple people.

That's when Sarah opened her eyes and instead of the usual smile, was realized she picked up her mom's looks, her dad's red eyes, and her mom's "death stare." She was a perfectly normal baby, however. Nearly everyone tries to come closer, when Sarah swatted her tiny arm towards the direction of Jason Ninetyfivex.

"Aw, how cute," Bo Foureleven joked, "she tried to smack Ninetyfivex!"

Xi Foureleven was surprisingly agitated. Something else was on her mind.

"How are we doing?" she bluntly asks Ryan Broadway.

"We… just got back into third place," Broadway replied, "But it's more important for you—"

"Such a disgrace!" Foureleven interrupted. "I shall be back before the end of the season!"

The commotion causes people in adjoining rooms to look at what was going on. Things like "hey is that really her?!" were overheard, so Ninetyfivex goes to the door and states some private business is taking place.

More details obviously happened, and they didn't wish for Foureleven to know the next game was against the Pacific City Nationals, at home. They really wanted her to stay at home and take care of the baby. But Xi's willpower was stronger than her husband's pleading and Ninetyfivex's tries to write on the tablet that she sits it out. Nothing could stop her.

Two days before MD 27, and only days after Sarah's birth, Xi Foureleven reported to SC Oceanside's business offices, and later in the day, practice facility. The team refused to comment on "personnel matters," but word was leaked. Rumors alone were enough to crash Soccer League X's ticket servers, and Oceanside Stadium was set to sell out the first time this season.

Soccer League X Season 23 (MD 27-36; Playoffs)

Postby 95X » Sun Feb 14, 2016 2:23 pm

MD 27
XBN quickly assembled a broadcast team from their Cascadia station and dispatched them to Oceanside Stadium, who had to scramble to get things ready as no games were scheduled for national broadcast that day. SC Oceanside flat-out refused to return phone calls from even the network regarding Xi Foureleven's status, however hours before the match a low-level paper pusher for the Pacific City Nationals confirmed Xi Foureleven was on the game day roster for the match.

Fans arrived and filled the stadium hours before the gates opened. They'd only heard rumors, and as Oceanside took to the field to warm up, Xi Foureleven was nowhere in sight.

Had everyone been duped? Actually, an XBN staffer with access to the team facilities discovered Foureleven was warming up privately. That's when everyone at home learned before the fans in the stadium.

The starting eleven was introduced by the public address announcer for both teams. The Nationals, wearing their away black with yellow trim, were booed, with Jordyn Third receiving the loudest. Oceanside wore their home white with blue sleeves and blue shorts. Oceanside was introduced in their traditional fashion; the keeper first, the four defenders, five midfielders, then a dramatic pause. The words 'are we forgetting someone?' appeared on the big screens. The crowd begins cheering, which gets louder when a goal from last season was shown, but from a distance camera and fog effect added to the picture, an echo effect added to the sound.

Everyone knew.

"Beginning her record eighteenth season with Oceanside, the player that needs no further introduction, Xi Foureleven!"

The stadium heard the announcement partway through "eighteenth," as the cheers went over the top. Meanwhile on the Pacific City sideline, the coaching staff pouted, as they hoped the rumors were untrue. They were tied for fourth place with Spatula City, and only one point behind Oceanside for third.

"We can do this!" Jordyn Third reminded them, herself in her first season with Pacific City.

Oceanside 1–0 Pacific City

Xi Foureleven stole the show. Despite no goals and some rust, she played like she only missed a few games instead of all but the final ten games of a season. Eighteen-year-old Yttribian Joan Apperatto scored the lone goal of the match shortly after halftime. 27 possible points remained after the 3 Oceanside picked up this match, and if Xi had any say they'd get all of them.

SC Cascadia appears to coast to a first-place finish, Oceanside and Twentytwo Cacti were now tied for second, Pacific City four points behind them in fourth, Spatula City four points below them in fifth, and sixth-place Brooklyn just three points away from the playoffs.

SC Cascadia clinched first place in the standings and qualified for the Champions' Cup with their win over X SC. Pacific City's win over Spatula City puts the Utensils' postseason hopes in peril.

MD 32
Pacific City 2–0 X SC
SC Cascadia 1–0 Brooklyn
Twentytwo Cacti 0–1 Oceanside
Millennium City 2–0 Cascadia Seafox
Port Chester 1–0 Spatula City

The Pacific City Nationals surge into third thanks to their win and Cacti's loss to SC Oceanside. SC Cascadia dealt the Brooklyn Cultures a loss, so all Spatula City needed was a win over last-place Port Chester. They didn't get it.

MD 33
Port Chester 0–2 Pacific City
Spatula City 0–1 Millennium City
Cascadia Seafox 0–0 Twentytwo Cacti
Oceanside 2–0 SC Cascadia
Brooklyn 0–0 X SC

Oceanside's win over first place SC Cascadia may have been the marquee match, but further down the table Brooklyn moved to within one point of the Utensils, and the seventh-place Cascadia Seafox were also only four points away from Spatula City, who lost to eighth-place Millennium City. It's crunch time, and Spatula City was the team being crunched.

MD 34
Pacific City 3–1 Brooklyn
X SC 1–0 Oceanside
SC Cascadia 3–0 Cascadia Seafox
Twentytwo Cacti 0–1 Spatula City
Millennium City 2–1 Port Chester

9 X SC 34 8 3 23 20 44 -24 27
10 Port Chester 34 5 4 25 17 38 -21 19
Spatula City's win and Brooklyn's loss gives the Utensils a badly-needed four-point lead. SC Cascadia's win against the crosstown Seafox ended the latter's dim chance of making the playoffs, as they fall seven points behind the Utensils with two games remaining. Oceanside's MD 36 match with Pacific City looks to be a battle for playoff position, and a grudge match of sorts at the Nationals' home stadium.

MD 35
Millennium City 0–2 Pacific City
Port Chester 1–0 Twentytwo Cacti
Spatula City 0–0 SC Cascadia
Cascadia Seafox 1–1 X SC
Oceanside 1–0 Brooklyn

With Spatula City's draw to first-place SC Cascadia and SC Oceanside's win over Brooklyn, the playoff picture was set. Although Pacific City and Oceanside had unfinished business with each other, one point separated the two of them, and only one team can be in second place.

MD 36
Very few people remember when Xi Foureleven played for the Pacific City Nationals in the first five years of Soccer League X's existence. It didn't stop Pacific City from reminding them ahead of the final game of the season.

Xi Foureleven was booed from the start, and things she'd never heard before, like "you're old!" and "retire!" were being chanted by the fans. Someone even brought a sign saying "A pixellated Alcouin is prettier!"

It backfired. Foureleven countered the negative energy, and played like the Foureleven the nation knew and loved. Two goals and one assist to Alessandra Leadbetter later, SC Oceanside won the game and second place.

Pacific City 0–3 Oceanside
Brooklyn 0–1 Cascadia Seafox
X SC 1–0 Spatula City
SC Cascadia 1–0 Port Chester
Twentytwo Cacti 2–0 Millennium City

Round 1 (2v5, 3v4)
#2 Oceanside 0–1 #5 Spatula City
(Stefansen :52)

The Spatula City Utensils surprised everyone with their win over heavily-favored SC Oceanside. Next stop, SC Cascadia in the Second Round.

#3 Pacific City 1–0 #4 Twentytwo Cacti
(Third :26)

After the game, Jordyn Third was asked what it felt like to play in her first SLX Playoff Game after many dismal seasons in now-defunct Gateway.

"Amazing!" she panted, "I knew this was a great team and told everyone I wanted to come here to win, and we're gonna do just that!"

Although they didn't know it as the Oceanside/Spatula City game was yet to be played, as the top team to win the first round, the Pacific City Nationals would play for the League Championship.

Round 2 (1 vs lowest remaining seed)
#1 SC Cascadia 0–1 #5 Spatula City
(Alcouin :83)

At least 30,000 Utensils fans made the trip to Cascadia, spatulas in hand, and witnessed their team perform yet another upset.

The Utensils hadn't won the SLX Championship in twelve years, and were going to their second consecutive championship game. Pacific City had never won.

evilempire® SLX Championship
Pacific City 0–1 Spatula City
(Alcouin :35)

The Spatula City Utensils promised the multiverse they'd put together a championship team; despite a nail-biting regular season they did just that. The win didn't come easy, as Johanna Cunningham successfully contended twelve shots on goal, most of them in the second half, with six of them from Jordyn Third herself. Pacific City had a strange defensive communication error midway through the first half, leading to Hannah Alcouin's goal.

The agony continues for the Pacific City Nationals, who came so close yet came up short at home, the domed Lucky Businessperson Arena in Pacific City. They earned another trip to the Globe Cup, though it seemed a sorry consolation to what Third wanted to do for her new team.

The Spatula City Utensils are entered into the UICA Champions' Cup and AOCL as Soccer League X Champions. SC Cascadia is entered to the UICA Champions' Cup for winning the regular season. SC Oceanside, the Nationals, and Twentytwo Cacti are the Globe Cup entrants.

Soccer League X Season 24 Preview

Postby 95X » Fri Feb 26, 2016 7:48 pm

Image
Soccer League X
“Northeastern Atlantian Oceania's BEST Independent Association Football!”
Season 24 Preview
95X Year 66

(OOC: Some information wouldn't be printed as-is if it were in-character. It's presented so other NS users can better understand the state of the league.)

Brooklyn Cultures
Colors: Red and Cream White
UICA Rank: 157th
Last Season: 12-9-15, 45 points, 7th
International Players: Cassidy Moran (Nephara)
Analysis: Brooklyn has played an "also ran" role the last several seasons. Under the ownership of the Capital of Culture Creamery Corporation, the team has been viewed as an advertisement for their yogurt and dairy products.
Projected Finish: 7th

SC Cascadia
Colors: Green and Yellow
UICA Rank: 25th
Last Season: 26-5-5, 83 points, 1st; lost Round 2 Playoff Game; lost to Directus (EUR) in Champions' Cup Eighth-Finals
International Players: Lara Bail, Cathy Byrne, Kelsey Jameson (Brenecia); Chikako "Chi-Chan" Sumitsu (Central Sunrise Islands)
Analysis: SC Cascadia is coming off one of the best regular season records in Soccer League X history, with 9 opposing goals all season. Despite bowing out of the playoffs, A good run in the Champions' Cup means Cascadia has a good chance of picking up a title and/or some hardware this season.
Projected Finish: 1st

Cascadia Seafox
Colors: Blue and Green
UICA Rank: 199th
Last Season: 14-4-18, 46 points, 6th
International Players: Evan Chambers (Taeshan)
Analysis: The Seafox could make the SLX Playoffs this season, through the fact several comparable teams might have slipped. However, several of their better players are on the wrong side of 30, and changes down the line could come quickly.
Projected Finish: 5th

Millennium City Eagles
Colors: Yellow and White
UICA Rank: 214th
Last Season: 12-6-18, 42 points, 8th
International Players: Joan Serra (San Llera); Serge Boateng (Semarland)
Analysis: Another team that's holding on, hoping to return to UICA contention. Despite some lineup shuffling, they'll have to keep hoping.
Projected Finish: 8th

SC Oceanside
Colors: Blue and White
UICA Rank: 14th
Last Season: 21-6-9, 69 points, 2nd; lost Round 1 Playoff Game; did not advance from Globe Cup Group Stage
International Players: Mana Kiatsrichaat (Northern Sunrise Islands); Joan Apperatto (Yttribia)
Analysis: Oceanside did a fine job without Xi Foureleven, who had to readjust when she returned midseason. The most well-known, sometimes hot-headed, somewhat-disrespected 95Xer to ever play soccer seems a bit softer than before. Perhaps the extended break helped them regroup, or maybe their dominance is over.
Projected Finish: 3rd

Pacific City Nationals
Colors: Blue and Black
UICA Rank: 183rd
Last Season: 20-5-11, 65 points, 3rd; lost SLX Championship Game; lost to Fontvielle Impact (VLD) in Globe Cup Qualifying Round
International Players: Kyra Ferrant (Cosumar)
Analysis: The loss of Isiah Polk to injury during the Globe Cup came as the team hoped to become a serious Soccer League X contender. Their young domestic replacement shows promise, however only time will tell if he will succeed. Jodryn Third will play her second season for the team.
Projected Finish: 4th

Spatula City Utensils
Colors: Red and Yellow
UICA Rank: 64th
Last Season: 15-5-16, 50 points, 5th; Won SLX Championship; did not advance from Champions' Cup Group Stage; lost to Mar Sara FC (VAL) in AOCL Semifinals
International Players: Hannah Alcouin (Northern Sunrise Islands); Johanna Cunningham (Nephara); Mikkel Johansson, Javier Marquez, Filip Stefansen, Adnan Sunde (Semarland)
Analysis: The league champions won the hard way (won 3 playoff games as the visiting side). A powerful and entertaining team that will look to go all the way for a second year in a row.
Projected Finish: 2nd

Tenth Soccer League X Team, d.b.a. "X SC"
Colors: Black and White
Last Season: 9-4-23, 31 points, 9th
International Players: Chikako Aina, Masami Inka, Courtney Mackenzie (Northern Sunrise Islands); Naoko Mio (Kazamatsuri); Justine Law, Pete Phoenix (Mertagne)
Analysis: Wu Fivetwelve asked for a transfer to Pacific City's new, second team, partially to bring veteran leadership to the young lineup and partially to play in her home city where her husband still lives and works. Midfielder Cayla Euclid also finds herself wrapping up her playing career here this season after leaving the Millennium City Eagles for cash.
Projected Finish: 9th

Twentytwo Cacti
Colors: Green and White
UICA Rank: 115
Last Season: 17-8-11, 59 points, 4th; lost Round 1 Playoff Game; lost to Willox Street Pirates (PCR) in Globe Cup Play-Off Round
International Players: Olaf Womack (Cosumar)
Analysis: Cacti started a rebuilding program, using several of their older players who are close to retirement to train what they hope will be the future of soccer in 95X. Even if it works, the focus has shifted from the team that surprised Oceanside several seasons ago to the long-term, meaning this season might not be such a good season for them.
Projected Finish: 6th

University City
Colors: Orange and Black
Last Season: 6-4-26, 22 points, 10th
International Players: Jack Cranshaw, Riley MacGregor (Schottia)
Analysis: The new owners of the Port Chester Ladybugs moved the team to one of the largest cities in 95X, which lost its soccer team when the B League folded. With the change in scenery from the beaches of Cascade Island and sand in every sandal, to desolate factories and dense urban skyscrapers should put a sense of urgency to the work they'll need to do to turn things around. Unlikely to happen this season.
Projected Finish: 10th

Soccer League X Season 25 (MD 1-18)

Postby 95X » Fri May 27, 2016 1:04 pm

The big news this season came before it began: Xi Foureleven announced her retirement following this season. Citing only "professionalism," she made the announcement herself in a short statement at the league offices instead of the customary team press conference.

Also of note:
* Due to a player strike abroad, 95X National Team midfielder Sam Seventyfifth returns to the Spatula City Utensils for the season. He will return to Atlético Nacional following the Soccer League X Season.

Through the first half of the season, the biggest surprise is University City in fourth, and Pacific City in last place. SC Oceanside will start playing its final away games with Xi Foureleven in the second half of the season, which is a sad day for many but a desired day for some.

Soccer League X Season 25 (MD 19-36)

Postby 95X » Sun May 29, 2016 8:38 am

Xi Foureleven went to Jason Ninetyfivex's office. Empty. Next to a computer, she finds a note next to a dusty keyboard. She reads it, actually cries for a bit, because she knew she deserved better.

Ninetyfivex never gave Foureleven access to his own computer, but this was different and time was running out. She sits down, regains her composure, enters the passwords, and presses a button.

Since Foureleven's an RP character though, she was blown against the back wall by high-force winds. They rippled through her as she felt the second half of the season flash before her eyes. She experienced nanoseconds of differing emotions as she realized just what had happened.
