O-LEAGUE : SEASON XI - PART ONE

Finally, domestic football is back to the somewhat divided United Provinces, and it's time for the eleventh season of the O-League. With Mercia and Ousevale now off to the MPL, Avidia United have been installed as the big favourites. Can Casuals, Stanton, or the Emberton clubs overhaul the Eagles? It is, at last, time to find out.

GAME ON!

MATCHDAY 1
We'll give Caledon Simpson their dues. It's been a long time coming, and they gave it their all, putting three past favourites Avidia. Sadly for them, though, the Eagles managed six of their own to down the men in navy blue. It's Casuals who top the table, though, as they put four past sorry Aigburth.

Elsewhere, two-nil home wins were the order of the day as no less than five teams recorded the score in their opening matches.

Results:
Avidia United 6-3 Caledon Simpson
Casuals Osteria 4-0 Aigburth Athletic
Stanton Town 2-0 Neathill
Emberton Reds 2-0 Beckton Supermarine
AFC Linford 2-0 Kallia United
Royal Emberton 2-0 Thackworth Rovers
New Cefn Albion 2-0 Avidia City
Bradwell Saints 2-1 Caversham

MATCHDAY 2
The runners and riders are beginning to jostle for position, and it's somewhat less than surprising that United and Osteria are pushing at the top. They're not the only ones though. Stanton, Bradwell, and surprise package Linford have both made it two out of two.

Results:
Aigburth Athletic 0-2 Avidia United
Neathill 1-1 Caledon Simpson
Beckton Supermarine 1-3 Casuals Osteria
Kallia United 0-2 Stanton Town
Thackworth Rovers 1-1 Emberton Reds
Avidia City 0-2 AFC Linford
Caversham 1-1 Royal Emberton
Bradwell Saints 2-0 New Cefn Albion

MATCHDAY 3
Five become four as Linford come a cropper against Bradwell, who rise to third. Casuals' close-fought victory over Thackworth, meanwhile, is enough to keep them top on goal difference.

Results:
Avidia United 2-1 Neathill
Aigburth Athletic 0-0 Beckton Supermarine
Caledon Simpson 0-3 Kallia United
Casuals Osteria 2-1 Thackworth Rovers
Stanton Town 1-0 Avidia City
Emberton Reds 2-3 Caversham
AFC Linford 1-3 Bradwell Saints
Royal Emberton 1-0 New Cefn Albion

MATCHDAY 4
United lose their 100% record, but gain the love of neutrals, after an entertaining three-all draw in Beckton; it's music to the ears of both Bradwell and Casuals, who both make it four out of four.

Results:
Beckton Supermarine 3-3 Avidia United
Kallia United 0-1 Neathill
Thackworth Rovers 1-0 Aigburth Athletic
Avidia City 3-2 Caledon Simpson
Caversham 0-3 Casuals Osteria
Bradwell Saints 2-1 Stanton Town
New Cefn Albion 1-1 Emberton Reds
Royal Emberton 2-1 AFC Linford

MATCHDAY 5
There are ways and ways to lose a 100% record. You can do what Casuals did, and just not quite manage to finish off your opponents (like Casuals, who could only draw at home to New Cefn), or you could go down the route that Bradwell went down.

The Saints travelled to Simpson, and came away with their collective tails between their legs as the Caleys stormed to their first win of the season - four to nothing, no less.

Results:
Avidia United 4-1 Kallia United
Beckton Supermarine 1-2 Thackworth Rovers
Neathill 0-3 Avidia City
Aigburth Athletic 1-1 Caversham
Caledon Simpson 4-0 Bradwell Saints
Casuals Osteria 3-3 New Cefn Albion
Stanton Town 1-1 Royal Emberton
Emberton Reds 0-1 AFC Linford

Season 1 Cookie Cove, Murray Bridge, Pasgarmises, Rothbardton Wednesday.
Season 2 Rothbardton Wednesday (2), Bountiful, Iqaluit, Oxley Vale.
Season 3 Blacksburg Rangers, Independence, Kimball United, South Partridge.
Season 4 Bountiful (2), Iqaluit (2), Polgar City Monarchs, Scottville Scouts.
Season 5 Rothbardton Wednesday (3), Cookie Cove (2), Alice Springs, Mesitgrup Gomtum.

The banner races ranged from the surprising to the normal this season. First-time banner bearers Mesitgrup Gomtum and Alice Springs weren't atop anyone's list of picks in the beginning, but both clubs won through by fairly secure margins and secured a first trip to the Globe Cup for each club in the bargain.

The Northwest, on the other hand, provided the expected slugfest. After their spectacular run into the Globe Cup knockout rounds South Partridge were expected to do well, and they were surely bothered to finish just two points off the pace but still standing fourth. Rothbardton Wednesday became the first club ever to win three banners, with former premiers Polgar City Monarchs and hard-luck Misesstadt also ahead of South Partridge in the most competitive of the four divisions.

Cookie Cove were the other banner-winners this season. The first-season premiers will join Wednesday in representing the league for the third time in five seasons.

The cup season was overshadowed in several cases by thoughts of relegation, with several clubs that were viewed as on the bubble striving for a performance that would weigh in with the selectors. Although five-season accomplishments were primary in the decision, recency was thought to be a plus. In the end all five relegated sides were in the bottom half of their divisions and none survived the second cup round.

One noteworthy upset in an early round saw sixth-place New Zion go into third-place Wasilla and win 3-1 away. But for the most part the cup ran to form and home edge was telling. Do not, however, tell that to Kimball United or their erstwhile opponents. After entering in the third round and holding home ground 2-1 over Vatnsoyrar, United ran off four away wins over quality opposition--Bountiful, Alice Springs, Rothbardton Wednesday on spot kicks, and Cookie Cove to secure their first premiership.

Championship for international association football

Building on the success of the Pathfinder Technologies TSP Premiership, a second-level multinational league system has been organised incorporating a number of associations participating for the first time. The Celebration Cruises Championship has 64 teams from 27 national associations, bringing the full system up to 96 teams from 29 lands.

The championship parallels the structure of its parent, with eight-team sections playing a double round-robin regular season followed by a knockout cup lasting seven rounds. But the championship knockout involves only the top two teams in each section and uses two-legged ties at each level save the final.

The original club contracts in the TSP Premiership are for five seasons. After this season some clubs will be shifted between that league and this one and sections will be redrawn to again match up with geography.

Season 1 Cranbourne, Hototogisu S.C., Malaniuk Dutchmen, Mesitgiglil, Oxbridge, Samideurbo, Sørvágur
Season 2 Malaniuk Dutchmen (2), Oxbridge (2), Argos 1093, Athas, Forest Nymphs 92, Funlanders, Rogplel, Sunbury
Season 3 Oxbridge (3), Samideurbo (2), EC Hayek, Hope, Lincoln City, Maryborough, Selhurst Amalgamated, Winterhaven Pioneers

Throughout this season there was a special urgency to the eight pennant runs, as winning a section had to be good in the eyes of the selectors for the new Premiership slots. The unavoidable push of geography meant that far more promotions were likely in the south than in the north, and ultimately neither EC Hayek nor Lincoln City (both northern clubs) got enough bump from their titles to make the grade. But the other six pennant winners all made it in, and of the 13 promoting clubs 12 were pennant winners in at least one season. (The exception, Inter Meganton, were overall champions of the second season.)

Oxbridge established themselves at the head of the Championship list with their perfect three-for-three in pennant runs. But for the second time they had a deep cup run end in disappointment by falling to the eventual champions -- in this case the Waltzing Matilda side Maryborough in a one-goal final. Both clubs are among the 13 to be promoted to the Premiership with next season's expansion.

There are strong rumors that this will be the last cup to use the two-legged tie format, with next season's cup stage played as single-elimination with round of entry and home advantage based on finish (roughly paralleling the Premiership).

And shortly after the crowds had dispersed and the squads scattered for the off-season, brief announcements brought joy to some and sadness to others. Five clubs are to be relegated from the Premiership to the Championship: Earth Base One (SKK), Glomsteg (MTM), Grant's Pass (HLM), Mangum Kickers (CUN), and Meadowlands Wanderers (GJS). Three Premiership clubs will change regions. Blacksburg Rangers (KAM) and Sgotmel (MTM) move from Southeast to Northeast, and Kimball United (HLM) moves from Southwest to Northwest.

Thirteen Championship clubs will advance into the expanded 40-team Premiership. Malaniuk Dutchmen (CKM) will join the Northwest and Oxbridge (SBB) the Northeast. The remaining moves are all in the south where seven countries join the Premiership for the first time. Six new Southeast clubs include Athas (HHJ), Hope (MON), Inter Meganton (SAG), Mesitgiglil (MTM), Samideurbo (ESP), and Selhurst Amalgamated (CPL). Five clubs join the Southwest: Argos 1093 (PPN), Cranbourne (WTZ), Hototogisu S.C. (SVS), Maryborough (WTZ), and Winterhaven Pioneers (GJS). Alignment of the new Championship sections, combining 16 new clubs with the five former Premiership sides and 51 Championship returnees, is expected soon.

Les Étudiants du Sioux becomes the second Kitsunian team to win the tournament, after Armée de la Déesse in the inaugural edition. Flock Nation has reached yet another final without a win. McDuck Football was voted Most Entertaining Team and CA Wydad got the Disappointment of The Tournament award by popular vote.
Kionne Petitpaw of Les Étudiants du Sioux was the top scorer, with 10 goals, and will take home the customary prize in Gold Bars Worth More Than Money(tm).

In a bonus, you can also check Dainer's puppet leagues there too! Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back.

Playoffs (Single Elimination)
The playoffs will determine the league champion, UICA Champions Cup representative, and AOCL representative. Home team in CAPS.
#4 Port Chester Ladybugs 2-1 #1 SC OCEANSIDE
Port Chester Ladybugs 2 (Eighttwentyfirst :08 :81); SC Oceanside 1 (Russell :88)
Game delayed as fights between fans of the opposing teams broke out before the game began. As portable bleachers had already been brought in to increase capacity of Oceanside Field to 14,000 (all tickets sold-out), security reseated Oceanside fans on one side of the stadium and Port Chester fans in specific sections on the other. Xi Foureleven was subbed out of the match at :70; TV cameras showed her broken-down and sobbing on the bench (very rare for someone who shows very little emotion on the pitch or in life) in the closing minutes as SC Oceanside falls to a team on a resurgence. This upset will likely be discussed for decades and perhaps a century to come.
#2 SC CASCADIA 2-0 #3 Weeksberg Glue
SC Cascadia (Seventwelfth :35, Edwards :74)
The team with the largest in-market domestic fan base goes to their first Soccer League X Championship, cheered on by 54,414 fans at the Cascade Dome.
evilempire® Soccer League X Championship
Played at Gateway Stadium. Attendance: 21,630 (Capacity: 27,500)
#2 SC Cascadia 3-0 #4 Port Chester Ladybugs
SC Cascadia 3 (Tubbs :22, Edwards :46, Seventwelfth :82)
SC Cascadia wins their first Soccer League X Championship, while sending the Ladybugs home emptyhanded for the third time in as many appearances.
Although unknown IC, this will be the final Soccer League X event in Gateway.

"All hail Csar László XVII!"

"Oh yay, look. It's István. What do the Tanácsadók want this time?"

"Well, now, if you're going to be like that then I'm just going to give you this to sign and then go."

"What?"

"Here, you monster, sign this. Don't you ever think about the feelings of anyone else?!"

"I... er... wha-?"

"You cruel heartless beast. Just sign it!"

"What is this I don't even."

Kishraeli Premier Liga - קישראל‎ ליגה

The 4th Kishraeli Premier Liga Season sees a familiar face as favourites as Shatilova FC once again took their place atop the table during season 2 for the 3rd time in club history with no team able to offer any resistance, it seems. They will however, as always, have to battle hard, Hapoel Maksiouta will undoubtedly offer a challenge, as will local rivals Maccabi Shatilova. It is clear that this season, there is not a clear order for place 2nd - 6th, it is really an open competition. We have a team preview for you, so you can make your own minds up, these will brought to you in 2 parts, to day, part 1:

A Tale of Two Penalties

Djibril Nardiello unexpectedly became the focus of the season with a tale of two penalty kicks that would make or break his team's season. Playing for the dockside AS Débardeurs Nationale, they had a wonderful season, remaining in contention for that newly gained second Champions' Cup qualification spot right up through until the last day of the season. CA Conquistadores had one of their 'run away with it' seasons and never looked like giving anyone else a sniff at the overall prize, of course, but that didn't mean there weren't chances for the other teams to grab that second spot, and all season it looked like being between Débardeurs, Qolo-Qolo, and Caballeros. Condensadores had a shocker of a season and eventually ended up finishing in seventh, Clube Cobeloa unexpectedly picking up the last Globe Cup spot, with Académica their nearest challengers in sixth, as unlikely as that may seem.

Going into the last day of the season, it came down to just two. Débardeurs were at home to Qolo-Qolo, and were one point ahead of their rivals on seventy-two points to Qolo-Qolo's seventy-one. A win or draw at home to Qolo-Qolo would therefore ensure Débardeurs a Champions' Cup berth for the first time, and with the score at nil-nil right up to the seventieth minute, things were tense. On the seventy-first minute however, Débardeurs were awarded a penalty, and the home fans celebrated like they'd won the match already.

Djibril Nardiello stepped up, like he had done five times before that season, and he kicked the ball to the left, like he had done five times before that season, and past Luca Fausti in goal, like he had done five times bef-... oh no, wait, he didn't.

To his horror, Luca Fausti guessed correctly and dived to his right, parrying the ball onto the crossbar and away, where it was cleared out by Qolo-Qolo defenders. Ten minutes later, Ferran Santacruz would score the only goal of the game for the away side, and they would finish second in the table at Débardeurs' expense. How costly that penalty miss had been.

The team and fans picked themselves up, however, and two weeks later they were there at Il Colosseo for the final of the Trofeo Magisterio. It was Condensadores against Débardeurs. One team looking to gain a little respect back and win some silverware despite the nightmare they'd endured during the rest of it, and the other team looking to provide themselves with a consolation to losing that Champions' Cup spot in such disappointing circumstances. It was the former that struck first, Alejandro Vera rising from a corner to head home towards the end of the first half. Débardeurs were not to be denied however, and against the run of play at the start of the second half, Simone Muscetta rifled a free kick into the top corner.

Then, with ten minutes left, Muscetta was fouled in the box, itself a noteworthy occurrence in the Acquan leagues, and it was up to Nardiello to turn the scores in Débardeurs' direction. He sized up Massimiliano Antuofermo, and opted to go against his previous six decisions, and kicked it to the right.

The ball went in, and the match was won by that same scoreline ten minutes later. Nardiello was the hero, and he lifted the Trofeo for his team. They might not have been going to the Champions' Cup, but Débardeurs would be going to the Globe Cup and the Cygnus Cup instead.

Additional RP: FSC transactions in CSL-A

Postby Free South Califas » Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:25 am

Califan Solidarity League wrote:CSL Season 4

After four seasons of the CSL following four seasons of the abortive FSC Soccer League, things have changed a little in the South Califas game. Several stars felt misplaced and overworked on lackluster teams with little hope of reaching UICA tournaments or even CSL Series A any time soon, and some clubs were basically failing to develop while a single player carried the load.

Internal transactions in FSC are a little different, since the clubs are not recognized to have any right over the players' labor, but may set very different residency requirements or have such imposed on them by neighborhood, city or county assemblies. Most of the players listed below had to make a significant, recorded transfer of personal property (i.e. swapping homes, studios), registering with local collectives and voting assemblies, etc. Some have been discreetly establishing roots for months and have just now done enough to meet the requirement, which explains why Federal Team stars sometimes end up languishing on mid-table teams in Series B and C for a year or two more than would otherwise be anticipated. Of course, if you ask them, the players will usually tell you it is loyalty.

FSC and CSL domestic club ImageHuntington Beach has had its ups and downs, falling from the best defensive performance in FSC Season 1 to a recent roller coaster in which they were relegated, achieved promotion, then were relegated again immediately afterward, last season. Starting center back Frida Rubaiyat and backup goalkeeper Gerlinda Strelc reached their limits of patience with the Orange County coastal city, moving to top-ranked FSC clubs ImageRancho Cucamonga and ImageSan Luis Obispo respectively, just in time for the Globe Cup. Utterly devoid of Federal Team stars for the first time, it is unclear whether or how the Huntington Beach club will recover its former glory.

Starting wing back Nadezhda Prokhorova has been loyal to the ImageLong Beach club of the major industrial and trade port city from coastal Los Angeles County, since the inception of the Federal Team, the lapsed Free South Califas Soccer League, the current Califan Solidarity League and the club itself. Even the departure of star striker Bela Ceh to ImageAFC Farnworth did not overly test her loyalty, but finishing mid-table in CSL Series B was just too much. As a result, she has moved to ImageRancho Cucamonga to shore up their defense along with Rubaiyat. Their core of two starting Federal Team defenders will certainly strike fear into opposing attacks. Returning to Long Beach, Federal Team backup midfielder Rufus Goldman also left, seeking a substantive shot at glory in UICA. Already sporting the best attack and defense in the CSL, ImageCalexico took him on in the hopes that he can help the back-to-back-to-back FSC champions regain the CSL title after it was won by the first foreign team ever, ImageBuffalo.

ImagePomona, a town beset by the mountains of eastern Los Angeles County and famous for its liberal arts colleges, was once a legitimate contender for the Globe Cup in the FSCSL and the subsequent CSL. Federal Team reserve wing-back Satel Norman once had cause to be optimistic, but their bottom-table finish in CSL Series B and impending relegation made such fantasies untenable. Not to be left out of the defensive arms race, former perennial Globe Cup contenders ImageSanta Maria enticed Norman's presence in order to shore up the third-worst defense in the CSL. Santa Maria have high hopes if they can reform their defensive effort, since they scored 60 goals and fell just three points behind Rancho Cucamonga for the last GC seed. Federal Team starting defender Onofre Reynoso Lovato appears to have been satisfied by this and other transactions that the club are serious about returning to their defensive roots.

Meanwhile, although they are still in CSL Series A and have never been relegated, ImageSan Diego have had probably their worst season ever, and seem far from their former constant presence in the Globe Cup. Federal Team starting midfielder Godvin Nes doesn't have too many more years to play, and has also moved to the new FSC powerhouse, seemingly unstoppable ImageCalexico, alongside Goldman. San Diego wing forward Cao Dong is considerably younger but has a taste for glory. ImageFontana, dominant in the first two COPACASUR domestic cups but fair to middling in league action, have reached a new recent high with their sixth-place CSL finish and Globe Cup entry and have brought on Dong in hopes that he can contribute some scoring punch.

OOC: I don't have time to finish my previews...so here's the league.

Image
Kishraeli Premier Liga - קישראל‎ ליגה

The Liga Kishrael opened up with an exciting first day, not a single draw, the biggest win being recorded by Aleph Khapresian, a 4-1 victory over Ghjasyu Abirim. Shatilova missed the first match day, and so Aleph ran out in front, Bnei Drazabari very close behind after a 3-0 victory over newcomers Beitar Zaqeven David. The next match day saw the reigning champions début to the new season, and saw them recorded a routine over Hapoel Taryapveluh, struggling after losing previously to Hapoel Maksiouta. Speaking of whom, Hapoel Maksiouta recorded the largest victory, a 3-0 win over Kishrael Tsydoin, another team that was lying low with 0 points. The biggest victory thus far, and the biggest shock, came on the next match day. Olimpia Babliu 6, Shatilova FC 2. Perhaps one of the most embarrassing defeats in the club's history saw them have a negative goal difference for the first time in many years, and saw rivals Hapoel Maksiouta and Maccabi Shatilova open the gap on them. The next match day saw Hapoel Maksiouta go three better than Babliu, 8-1 the score, against an evidently shell shocked Ghjasyu Abirim, Aleph also came out on top with a 5-4 victory over Babliu. Not to be outdone, Shatilova, on the next match day thrashed Aleph 8-0, yet still could not claim higher than 3rd as the first 6th of the season came to a close.

Image

The 7th round saw Maccabi Shatilova record a huge 6-1 victory over Kishrael Tsydoin, and it was also a high scoring encounter when Hapoel Maksiouta met Olimpia Babliu, 6-4 was the score, Hapoel Maksiouta capitalising on a sending off from Babliu to score 2 goals in the last ten minutes of the game. Maccabi Nyetanyu, who had been relatively quiet this season recorded a 2-1 loss to Aleph Khapresian, and failed to bounce back effectively, drawing 1-1 with Bnei Drazabari, their Globe Cup dream seeming to come to an end very early on in the season (Although, they did defeat reigning champions Shatilova FC in this segment of the season). Carrying on, we see the top 3 going strong, however, there is the inevitable clashes of the titans, but who came out on top from these duels. The first we encounter in this part of the season is Shatilova FC - Maccabi Shatilova, the Shatilaurchev derby. The reigning champions triumphed in a slim 1-0 victory, hard fought most certainly. The next match day saw another clash in the top 3, Hapoel Maksiouta and Shatilova FC. This time it wasn't even close, Hapoel Maksiouta were brushed aside in a 4-1 victory for Shatilova, their superiority shining through evidently. The places they seemed to be dropping points were the mid-table teams, and they had to stamp this out if they were to break out of 3rd position.

Image

This part of the season, generally perceived as the half-way stage saw the emergence and revival of many teams, the notable example being Ghjasyu Abirim, who shot up two places on the table a record 4-1-0 for the 5 games they played, conceding just 4 goals, something wholly unusual for such an aggressive attacking side. Fortunes were mixed though, Aleph suffering a terrible run, losing all 5 games they played, now slumped in 6th, and 11 points off of a Globe Cup place, it doesn't look hopeful for their challenge, or their partnership bid with the UICA for that matter. The race at the top got a lot closer too, Maccabi Shatilova, Hapoel Maksiouta and Shatilova all being compressed within 2 points of each other, the problem for the leader Maccabi Shatilova, the other two teams have a game in hand over them, and if results go against them, they could see themselves drop into 3rd, the position they've occupied since the creation of the Kishraeli Liga, every single season. They, for the first time, seem to be able to change this, but with results like a 2-0 loss to Hapoel Taryapveluh - last place in the league, and fierce rivals Hapoel Maksiouta (0-1) it seems they won't be able to cling on if they don't change how they play. At the other end of the table, it seems as if Beitar Zaqeven David began to have a resurgence, 10 points in 5 games, something amazing for a new team like them. Many thought that Beitar Zaqeven's season would go one way or the other, but they seem to be riding out in the middle, something unusual for the zealous Zionist supporters that they have.

Image

This segment, the second to last one in the season saw high scoring rounds for a lot of teams, specifically the top 2, whose Goals Scored rocketed in this time. Shatilova opened with a 4-2 victory over Ghjasyu Abirim, while their rivals in Shatiluarchev, Maccabi Shatilova, thrashed Beitar Zaqeven David 4-1. On the next match day, Maccabi Shatilova continued their excellent streak, a 5-1 victory over Ghjasyu Abirim, whose run of form had seemed to end rather abruptly from what it once was. Struggling Kishrael Tsydoin also recorded one of their biggest victories, a 5-3 victory over fellow minnows Olimpia Babliu. When Hapoel Maksiouta and Shatilova played, it was a draw, 0-0, something a little underwhelming for a title race. Shatilova began to drop points, having a 4-1-1 record as opposed to Hapoel Maksiouta's 5-2-0 and Maccabi Shatilova's 5-1-0. They would need something special to rescue their title, and they'd make history in being the only Shatilova team not to win the title. Hapoel Maksiouta and Maccabi Shatilova, forever being in the 2nd and 3rd places had found their opening. Meanwhile, Ghjasyu Abirim had the gap closed on them for fourth, a disappointing 2-0-4 allowed Maccabi Nyetanyu to catch up, themselves having a reasonable 3-2-2. The battle near the bottom remained tight, Olimpia Babliu dropping into danger after a run of 6 games that saw them pick up just 1 point. The great escapists Hapoel Taryapveluh remained in trouble, but did pick up a decent amount of points in these games, 5 points in 7 games.

Image

After a long and tasking season, it was over, and for once, the top 3 and changed. Top? Hapoel Maksiouta, second? Maccabi Shatilova, the previous and only champions, Shatilova were in 3rd, for the first time in their history. They certainly did put up a fight during the end of the season, a superb record of 5-3-0 as opposed to Maccabi Shatilova's 4-1-2 and Hapoel Maksiouta's 4-2-1, but it wasn't enough due to their previous lacklustre performances in the league, characterised by winning the big games, and dropping points in the smaller games. Certainly this is the most momentous occasion in Hapoel Maksiouta's history, their first taste of victory in the Liga Kishrael. Constantly in second position, they've managed to improve under a new economic system which has allowed for a better management of the clubs income and revenue, marshalling it in player development and transfers. Clearly Hapoel Maksiouta are deserved winners. Perhaps commiserations are in order for Maccabi Shatilova, leaders from the first segment, but finishing in 2nd, is a great improvement, finally breaking their cycle of 3rd place finishes. Further down, Ghjasyu Abirim have had a Globe Cup place swiped away by Maccabi Nyetanyu, the gap being a miniscule point, yet Abirim have established themselves as a player in the upper-middle league and their attacking style of play is touted as one of the most refreshing to watch. At the bottom of the table, Hapoel Taryapveluh once again escaped relegation, the great escape once again complete, the once strong Kishrael Tsydoin the victims of relegation. Beitar Zaqeven David also survived their first season in the league, finishing an acceptable 9th.

Left-wing Utopia

Postby Zwangzug » Sat Mar 23, 2013 6:38 pm

It's been a long journey just to reach this point. But now, after long, long last, we are proud to present the...

1./

(That's “First Division” to you.)

As you can probably guess, there have been some...unique compromises involved in the making of this division. We should probably start with the fact that the ordinal might be superfluous, as there really isn't a second division, just a league of teams playing each other in a franchise system. If people ever felt particularly motivated, they might be able to publicize the university results (which have a bona fide bracket now, full-sized stadiums and all!) and maybe even send them off to the SBCC, following Dancougaran precedent or what have you. But there's no guarantee that will happen.

On the bright side, we've actually gotten everyone to settle down and play a double round-robin, so, you know, there is that.

On the...eccentric side, the final tables aren't going to be that commonplace, but we can live with it.

So, here we go--this is probably going to be it as far as professional clubs go, at least for the time being, so you'd better get familiar with them. Here we have the team names, colors, home city when relevant (actually, we might as well give you a refresher course on the geography...see below), plus some predictions. No, not about how the teams are going to do, they're all equally inexperienced these days. Bar the Rovers. But they have other things working against them. So, once again, it all evens out! We will, however, predict whether potential nicknames might catch on, as well as potential rivalries...both local and decidedly not so, including some potential three-way clashes. Once the season gets underway, though, who knows what could happen? We're just lucky to get this far.

Image

Teams are sorted by style, most defensive to most offensive.

Namiri Forest
City: Guariday
Outlook: They're back, ready to try and win championships without benefit of the Cootie bug box. Which is good, because we won't always have access to that, necessarily. Times change. The Namirite attachment to all-out defense and being pretty much insufferable remains the same.
Nicknames? They didn't have any the first time around, but a few fans are trying to go with “Seradmi,” which probably sounds intimidating and all. If they can get past the break from tradition, it might stick.
Rivalries? The other Namiri, one presumes. They will be the only district to have two clubs. What do you know, all that left-wing talk really did stick!

Excelsior Slogda
City: Craton
Outlook: Slogda is a close-knit district, and its club in turn will be named after the entire district rather than the city. Craton itself will bring avid and noisy fans; those who make the trek down from the city of Hapra are expected to bring intricate banners. Hopefully that'll keep them all entertained, because the offense doesn't look likely to provide much to occupy people.
Nicknames? “Alaisti” sounds dumb, but it should catch as long as they avoid Cyrillic characters or anything really stupid. (Craton is located in the foothills of the Alai Mountains, and it's apparently a reference to like mountain climbing or something.)
Rivalries? There is no great local rival so...the Rovers, I guess.

Canbix Muses
City: Canbix
Outlook: Will there be plenty of women? Er, possibly, they feature many defenders so that well could work out. Will they finish games with nine players? That's...uh...not out of the question, unfortunately, the people of Canbix are a disgruntled lot. They're the largest city not to have a baseball team so the football club should draw big crowds. And despite their defensive style, look for a fast pace of play—they hate time-wasters.
Nicknames? “Nightriders.” Whatever that is. Do not call them horses or some very offended fans will meet you in the parking lot after the game. And since nobody uses cars anymore, it could be a long time before anyone finds you.
Rivalries? Unnervingly, Bassabook's fans appear just as touchy. If either base insults the other, things could turn messy. By Zwangzug's standards, granted.

Sporting Esper
City: Hope City
Outlook: They're actually out in the suburbs, because the city as it is is rather close-knit and didn't have room for a big old stadium of its own in the circular grid setup. This shouldn't dissuade fans from coming out, though.
Nicknames? “Robins.” This seems like a nice, decent nickname and should definitely work.
Rivalries? The FTC; they are the closest stadiums, by train, and are in fact so close they apparently have a regional rail setup rather than a big InterCity train. They're also, strangely enough, the second-closest stadiums. Stay tuned.

102d Jr.s
City: 102d
Outlook: Set to groundshare with the University of 102d (not to be confused with 102d Polyteknik, more academically and less athletically inclined). Yes, sadly, the punctuation is necessary. But this should be as egregious as the clubs get.
Nicknames? “Wiz Kids.” Maybe. It takes more space to spell out than this abbreviation, but presumably whatever they're writing about the team is rather compact anyway and this'll work as a verbal alternation?
Rivalries? Bassabook, and this is almost a sure thing despite the geographic distance. These cities don't like each other and with their clubs playing styles that exactly balance each other out, we could have a new generation of culture clashes in the works.

Keppal Cosmos
City: Keppal City (well, you never know, it could have been somewhere in Keppal District)
Outlook: Keppal is renowned as being particularly anti-nationalistic. And that's by Zwangzug's standards. So maybe they'll qualify for the UICA so they can get to play worldwide opponents...or maybe they won't, so they don't have the duty of representing us. Can't be sure.
Nicknames? It's not clear whether this already is their nickname—might they just be recruiting a diverse crowd of Cosmopolitans, as above? If it's not, probably “ETs.” Monosyllabically, why not.
Rivalries? Canbix are the local rivals, and prickly fans could rub up against each other. Then again, they could decide it's an “us against the world” kind of thing and get on surprisingly chummily.

Arlington City
City: Arlington
Outlook: A grandparent clause lets them keep their counterintuitively defensive style, decimal points and all. They didn't exactly need to resort to dice to win their title years ago, so they'll be hoping for more of the same.
Nicknames? This is where it gets pretty silly. Both “Hawks” and “Blues” have been suggested, but one is dangerously close to a nearby baseball rival and the other is just sad. Literally. Don't expect either of these to stick around.
Rivalries? Zwischen are close by, and inasmuch as Arlington are perhaps the “representative” city of Zwangzug while Zwischen is the capital, there's plenty of northeastern pride at stake.

FTC United
City: Er...well...the FTC. And also the FTC. They have two home stadiums, bringing the total for the league up to a nice square sixteen.
Outlook: HAHAHAHAHA “FTC United.” That's a good joke. Um, they'll be playing half their home games (including, by special arrangement, their game “at” Rovers United) in each. Balance.
Nicknames? “Oxen.” Please, please, let it be short for “oxymorons...” I cannot take this seriously anymore.
Rivalries? Here's where things really get strange. Both Bassabook and 102d would probably like this club to be two clubs, district-derby rivals of sorts, who can carry out a proxy war for them. Or maybe just have “United” be more fully conceptualized as belonging to one side or the other. So, there might be some tension against either of those teams.

Namiri Independent
City: Sharag
Outlook: Fiercely proud of their (1)-4-4-2, they seem to be trying to establish themselves as everyone's second team. Or, alternatively, a club for the young hipsters who find Namiri Forest too extreme.
Nicknames? “Rebels.” (Against what, we don't know.)
Rivalries? Despite the geographical distance, they could be the third component of the Arlington-Zwischen rivalry, with each of them having a decent claim to be tactical heirs of the national team from the first time around. Just representing exceptionally different eras.

Spenson Suburbia
City: Spenson, well, Fulpog.
Outlook: Unlike their other longstanding counterparts, will be hoping that these results break with the past. They apparently still have money, of sorts, and have used that to sign promising talent upon college graduation, but who knows whether that'll get them very far.
Nicknames? Depends on whether you think “Suburbians” is actually a made-up word; if it is, that should work.
Rivalries? If Canbix and Keppal City get along, it's not too hard to imagine them dumping their frustrations on Spenson with a mocking “you will not go to space today.” To which Spenson will no doubt retort “sure we will, it's the coming back tomorrow that's the tricky part.”

Twineur Bugs
City: Twineur
Outlook: Basically, “tbd.” Not even their color scheme is set—apparently Twineur are sick of having their urban identity be a joke making fun of no one knowing who they are, so they've decided to get a new image representing a new era of...something. Except we have to wait a couple weeks to figure out what, exactly. Expect perhaps a fast pace of play, but even that could change.
(Update: they play in blue and white.)
Nicknames? There's a chance this will be revealed to actually be their nickname, if it turns out they're scrambling for a more official identity. Of course, they play in the—wait for it—Bug House.
Rivalries? Spenson are the local rivals. Twineur are a hint more attacking, though you wouldn't necessarily know it from this sorting, but they should be pretty evenly matched.

Rovers United
City: no.
Outlook: Look, a team with...experience! Like, getting beaten up by the rest of the world during the Fair Play Trophy! But, um, it's the principle of the thing. With these franchise markets mostly not overlapping with the baseball world, there should be plenty of chances to draw big crowds in other cities.
Nicknames? I mean they're Rovers, what more can be said.
Rivalries? Possibly Zwischen, given their penchants for playing football without seemingly important things, like a clue.

Bassabook Old Boys
City: Bassabook
Outlook: The fans are too still singing. And they thank you in advance not for correcting them on that point. Beyond that, who knows. Maybe they'll sell scarves with the club name on them or something. It could be a nod to the past.
Nicknames? Oh hopefully “BOB” or something. I'd suggest having a cute yellow dog as the mascot, but then you wouldn't want to name him Rover or anything like that.
Rivalries? Technically Trink are the closest (by rail, anyway), although Bassabook are the quintessentially “southeastern” city and Trink think of themselves as more “northeastern,” so this could be rather muted. But not literally.

Trebuchet Cham
City: Cham
Outlook: Their logo is a trebuchet. I feel like the followup should be “your argument is invalid.” This is apparently the result of a translation error, and the fans' fervent response is “if this is wrong we don't want to be right.” An attacking side, unsurprisingly.
Nicknames? “Cabbas,” possibly spelled “Cabbers?” The city residents seem to genuinely like this as the English-language term (or terms) for people from their city, so I guess we're going with that.
Rivalries? 102d are a relatively close-by rival. Maybe they can actually visit Polytek to find the cannon they stole from StoalSci, and use that to fight the Trebuchet onslaught.

Eintracht Trink
City: Trink
Outlook: Ahaha, “harmony.” We see how much effort they've put into acknowledging Danhy, another almost-as-large city in the district of Yeaun; none. Which is pretty much what you expect from Trink fans. Or “rabble,” on a bad day.
Nicknames? “Nebenstimme,” although that might just be a sarcastic Danhy fan writing. Not sure the Trink base will take to it, but we'll see.
Rivalries? Inasmuch as they see themselves as the poor downtrodden footballers of the world, they'll detest rich kids Spenson and the “soccer” they apparently call it on occasion. This characterization is a little unfair to Spenson. They don't call it soccer that much.

Ephesian FC
City: Zwischen
Outlook: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” They keep quoting that verse. I do not think it means what they think it means.
Nicknames? “Tweeners” is the new thing for people from the capital? Not sure if this'll stick, but it could be worse.
Rivalries? Uh, Keppal's antinationalism might manifest itself here...we'll have to wait and see!

Gordonopia Premier League
2019 Season Preview

Image
For the eighth time, United Gordonopia is gearing up for the Gordonopia Premier League. As the league prepares to enter the 2020s, this season may turn out to be one of reflection.

Football is at an all-time high in Gordonopia, with the nation having just hosted the Baptism of Fire. The impact of that tournament, from bringing international attention to the nation, to stadium upgrades, to several new internationals from participating teams, will certainly raise the profile of the league.

The season is also notable for several changes coming now and in the near future. This will be the last year where the Gordonopia Cup is played as a straight knockout tournament. In subsequent competitions, the first round will be a two-group round robin stage. Additionally, it has been announced that a GPL All-Star team will be formed to play against a counterpart from Taeshan.

Team Spotlight
FC Deska

Is anyone surprised not to see FC Deska in this spot? This year, they look to recover from a 'bad season' which saw

the Northern Wall place second in the regular season and get upset in the first round of the Cup. With 'best of the decade' lists likely to be drawn up after this year, the team will be out for blood in order to solidify its spot at the top.

Basin Plain

After doubting them for two seasons, no one is expecting Basin Plain to do poorly in 2019. After several big moves

including the high-profile signing of two players from the Baptism of Fire, the team will likely want to capitalize on its success and make its mark as one of the top teams of the league.

Gordonopian Games is once again bidding to become a UICA partner to become the primary sponsor of the Series B Champions' Cup.

Our company was initially founded in 1987 as an in-house game developer for Gordonopian Enterprises; a nationwide conglomerate. Two years later we entered the hardware business, and have since risen to become the dominant gaming brand in United Gordonopia, and one of the largest in the world. In fact, our recently released console, the Titan, is now distributed in more countries than any other.

We have long been involved in the sports genre, and the massive popularity of football in both our home nation and abroad has made it into our marquee. Two titles have recently made worldwide headlines. World Cup 63 was a massive success during the last World Cup cycle, and sold billions of copies. Baptism of Fire LI, the official game of the tournament hosted in United Gordonopia, became famous when its realistic portrayal of teams helped the Saintland team advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

As a partner, we would like to create a game for each UICA cycle which would include all participating teams, paying special attention to the Series B Champions' Cup, which we feel is sadly often overlooked. Additionally, every player in the Series B Champions' Cup will receive a free Titan console, with a copy of that year's edition of the UICA video game. Additionally, we would provide Series B teams a cut of the revenue from copies of the game sold within their home markets, on top of the various license fees already paid.

We believe that this deal will be a strong partnership for both UICA and Gordonopian Games. While UICA will benefit from the exposure offered by our games, a deal with the globally known UICA fits perfectly with Gordonopian Games' long-time motto: Your Game, Your World.

We thank you for considering our proposal, and encourage you to visit our website if you are more interested in our company.

Branta Island (BRI)
Champions Cup: S.S. Leggio
Globe Cup: A.C. Scipio, San Domenico, Inter Leggio
Rushmore Copa de Campeones: S.S. Leggio

Football begins to gain steady ground on the island, and with it the prospect of future branchings out into the international market, but transferring in and out of players. So far, Saugeais has been the landing place for the first seven Brantolano footballers, all of them consistent national team call ups. Striker Aureliano Sebastiani, who joined up with Saugeain side Royalwich, even took home the coveted Golden Boot award.

But focusing domestically, the league is still under the watchful eyes of the Branta government. Big city teams are still getting the big city funding when it's not going to more important matters, like infrastructure, waterways, etc. But with S.S. Leggio making it past their first ever Champions cup stage, the team's owner and Minority Party leader, Gustavo Mazza, stated that "this team is the future of football", a bold statement indeed. Bold enough that he stuffed £50 million into the team's coffers. Enough to have S.S. Leggio win the league again by another sizable amount. And just enough to have many football fans on the island claim that Mazza is just buying titles at this point.

Football, well, football looked to gain steady ground on the island.
