General Info

Postby Baggieland » Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:37 pm

There will be 4 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, the same as RL AFL.

In AFL, the goal difference is recorded as a percentage, unfortunately scorinator doesn't do this. So, we will be using goals for minus goals against.

Everyone is familiar with this system, and it still separates team on the same principle: the higher number prevails.

In the event of teams finishing on the same points the following will be used to separate them:
1. Goal difference.
2. Goals scored.
3. H2H record.
4. Coin toss.

As Aussie rules is a high scoring game, it's highly unlikely that anything other than goal difference will be required.

There is no style modifier in Aussie rules.
All teams are unranked.

When you post your rosters, please include the following permissions:
Choose my goalscorers
Godmod scoring events
Roleplay injuries to my players
Godmod injuries to my players
Godmod other events

Your roster should have 18 players as starters plus 4 interchange players for each matchday.

I will be posting the results between midday and 1pm U.T.C.

In the event of Baggieland progressing beyond the group stage, Sylestone will scorinate all knockout matches involving Baggieland.

Matchday one results will be posted on Saturday 11th July.
There will be 24 hrs between matches.

Best of luck everyone!

Welcome to Baggieland

Postby Baggieland » Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:40 pm

Welcome to Baggieland

Baggieland is a tropical island nation with a plethora of sun-kissed beaches lined with majestic palms. There are plenty of water sports to enjoy such as surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving on pristine coral reefs, together with a vibrant and exciting nightlife. Visitors can also venture into the unspoiled wilderness to experience jungle trekking, white water rafting and mountain climbing in this nation that has it all.

Image

Image

There are four main cities:

Hawthorn is the capital and by far the largest city. It has the nation’s sole airport, which serves international flights only. It surrounds Lake Throstle, which actually isn’t a lake, but an inland sea.

Albion has Baggieland’s only deep-water port and is the centre of all international trade, as well as being home to the Baggielandian Royal Navy. It is an industrial city and the only one without a beach, so most tourists avoid it.

Stoney Lane and the nearby Ark Island have the best snorkelling and scuba diving spots.

Bunn’s Field has the best surfing beaches and there are also good snorkelling and scuba diving locations around Birches Island.

There are three smaller populated areas in the Three Degrees region:

Regis Island, Batson Island and Cunningham Island. These islands have good surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving as well, but they are best known by scuba divers for the abundance of ship wrecks.

There are no cars in Baggieland, but there is a very efficient public transportation system. There are trams within cities, trains between cities and ferries to the islands. All of which run every few minutes from early in the morning until late at night. The longest route, Cunningham Island to Ark Island, takes no more than five hours.

The people of Baggieland are all vat-created – so every citizen is 24 years old and shall remain that age forever.

Sport in Baggieland

All Baggies are sport crazy, the nation comes to a standstill every time a game is being played. The players that make it to the top of their game are treated as gods.

Dartmouth Hill (97,842), Hawthorn, is the home of football.
Image

Birches Park (89,476), Bunn’s Field, is the home of rugby.
Image

Waverley Oval (82,612), Albion, is the home of Aussie rules.
Image

Cooper’s Field (62,591), Stoney Lane, is the home of cricket.
Image

Maripasoula Stadium (32,836), Regis Island.
Image

St. George’s (28,451), Batson Island.
Image

The Archway (19,026), Cunningham Island.
Image

All of the stadiums’ pitches can be converted into any pitch type (like Sapporo stadium in RL).

Travel Warning Advisory

Are you wondering why there are so many ship wrecks in the Three Degrees Region? There is a rogue submarine HMS Onslaught that operates in this area. They approach the ferries looking for booty and often sink the ships if they’re not satisfied with the takings (they always allow the passengers and crew into the lifeboats first – no one’s been lost – yet). If you should find yourself in this situation, well… you’re on your own.
Danger rating: 5/10. They might be satisfied with their booty.

As Baggieland has an equatorial climate, there are sharks in the seas off the coast, but no shark nets. If you should find yourself up against a tiger shark while enjoying the beach life, well… you’re on your own.
Danger rating: 1/10. Shark attacks are infrequent and rarely fatal. Shark diving tours are available.

Baggielandian women are very beautiful, but beware the black widow scam. If you should find yourself in your hotel room with no memory of the previous night and all your money gone, well… it’s your own fault.
Danger rating: 10/10. There’s no escape.
Keep the faith, keep on boinging!

Footy Watch: A Chance For History

Name: TJUN-ia
Trigram: TJU
Nickname: Jaguars or Jags
Home Colours: Light Blue/Orange
Away Colours: Orange/Light Blue
Clash Colours: Black/Dark Orange

You'd never thought you'd see it, but here we are. Footy is being played at an international level for the first time in a long while and TJUN-ia will have a part to play in its revival. The newly formed TJUN-ia Association of Australian-rules Football (TJUN-ia-AAF or TAAF, but we like to call it "the TAAFy") has done the traditional TJUN-ian method when it comes to a new sport: some of the best players for the TJUN-ian amateur game (mainly from the OAFL but with some from other leagues like the JBAFL) have been paired with a gaggle of TJUN-ia's finest coaching minds to be sent to Baggieland in order to represent the International Community in the tournament. But this time, it's different. As this is the 1st "Aussie Rules World Cup", all of the 14 teams will be "unranked" for the entire tournament. This means that no one really knows who the contenders are to claim the first-ever flag - all 14 teams have an equal shot to claim it. Therefore, this might be TJUN-ia's best chance to claim its first-ever international title in any sport, so this "small tourney" is being treated very seriously by the TJUN-ian Olympic and Sporting Committee (TOSC).

Sylestone drawn into Group 2 for Aussie Rules WC

Postby Sylestone » Thu Jul 09, 2020 3:22 pm

For the inaugural Australian Rules World Cup, Sylestone has been drawn into Group 2 with some other reasonably familiar nations and some not-so-familiar ones. Every side will be difficult, but Sylestone knows that if they can play their best in each and every game, then they will stand a good chance at progressing to the finals. This is what they will be after, as Sylestone has never made it to the final knockout stages of a tournament before. This seems to be a prime opportunity, so can they do it?

Matchday One vs BYE
Sylestone have a bye in Matchday One, but be sure that they will be keeping a careful eye on their opponents to see how they play. This could be seen as an advantage heading into Matchday Two, but it may not be as they won't have that imperative game experience.

Matchday Two vs HUElavia
HUElavia is going to be hard, perhaps even the hardest opponent to play against in their group. They have a strong-looking roster that will be hard to pass by, but whether they are stronger than Sylestone, we don't yet know. What we do know, however, is that the Sylestonean side will have to work their asses off to get a win.

Matchday Three vs Kelssek
Kelssek is possibly the most experienced NS Sport side in the Aussie Rules World Cup, but like Sylestone, they've probably never played AFL before, so we can't know what to expect of them. They could be shining stars or they could be as dull as Sylestone's soccer team. We will just have to wait and see.

Matchday Four vs United Civil Republic
United Civil Republic is another relatively new nation to the NS Sports world and these two nations have never crossed before. But they are known and even put in a host bid for this WC, so we do not know what to expect from them yet, but they may have a few tricks up their sleeves.

Matchday Five vs Mathuvan Union
Another team that hasn't done much in the way of putting up a roster or anything, the Mathuvan Union are relative unknowns in the sporting world. We will just have to wait and see what will happen to them and watch them carefully throughout the first four matchdays.

Matchday Six vs TJUN-ia
Besides Sylestone and HUElavia, TJUN-ia is the only team so far that has put up a roster. They have a strong side that will put up a good run to the finals, but like all of these teams, we don't know what is going to happen until the cup actually starts. Let's just say that they are expected to make it a good way into the knockout stages.

Matchday Seven vs Alice Bay
Alice Bay is an unknown nation to Sylestone, but they hold great diplomatic ties with a more known nation in Lisander. They will put up a fight, but it is yet to be seen what their roster will bring. This match, being the last of the group stage, may well be imperative if Sylestone shall make it to the finals.

Ko-oren's EAGLES at the First Aussie Rules World Cup

Why the Eagles? In absence of players from the central bits of Ko-oren, and as long as Aussie Rules isn't that popular in those areas at all, the team has opted for Eagles over Dragonflies.
Colours: Brown, with green and blue trim. Away: White, with brown trim, and green and blue elements.
Which languages are spoken by this team? About half of the team speaks the rarest language within the Ko-orenite language family: Tarrashall. The rest speaks Mawr (a Gaelic language). A small minority speaks English, French, Gehrenna, or Dutch. The names of the players should speak for themselves.

Some players play in the East ARL - an amateur league taking place east of the mountains, which is to say, 90% of the country.

Much unlike conditions in Ko-oren, the ARWC will be played in warm places. Away with the dark, windy, rainy, cloudy west coast, for our proud 25 will spend their time all across Baggieland, with four of our six matches played in the far northeastern extent of the country. Only Albion and Hawthorn are our 'hard to reach' destinations - and for that reason, the team will set up shop on Regis Island - home venue for two matches and right in the middle between the others. Only for our final match in Hawthorn will the team travel for a few hours.

Footy Watch: Oof, Not The Best Start

Postby TJUN-ia » Sat Jul 11, 2020 6:59 am

With a new tournament on the horizon, no one really knew how the 1st ever Aussie Rules World Cup would kick-off. Both TJUN-ia and Kelssek had sent a team of amateurs to Baggieland in order to take part in this tournament, so no one knew for sure just how good either team was before their meeting at Stoney Lane today.

But, we do know now. Kelssek destroyed the Jaguars by 73 points, with Daniel Alegro and Morgan Crowe leading the scoring for our opponents. Kelssek kicked a whopping 19 goals with 23 behinds, a considerable amount of offence. TJUN-ia, in comparison, scored 9 goals and 10 behinds. It doesn't look good but 9.10 is at least showing that we have potential, at least the Jaguars can score some points. 64 is not bad in comparison to some of the other teams in the tournament: The Jovannic went 4.0.24, while the Halaethaed Commune went a staggering 0.4.4 in their game.

So not the best start, but we at least showed promise. We're at the bottom of the ladder on point differential, so improvement is definitely required. We will return to Cooper's Field tomorrow to take on the United Civil Republic. GO JAGS!

Matchday One roundup

Postby Sylestone » Sat Jul 11, 2020 3:28 pm

Group One:
Group One was full of massive results as only one game proved even close. Megistos scored a massive 162 goals against Halaethaed Commune. In response, the Halaethaeds scored 4. Just 4 one-pointers. But this wasn't even the biggest result. Ko-oren scored 217 goals against The Jovannic, who scored 4 six-pointers during the game. While the world watched those two games in awe, Sarzonia managed to quietly dispose of Unite Civil States 128-108. Hosts Baggieland had a bye in Group One, so we haven't yet seen what they are capable of. However, it seems that Group One holds two very good Aussie Rules teams, so who will take out the other two spots, we will find out.

Group Two:
Sylestone had a bye in Matchday One, but that didn't stop them from getting an extra little bit of training in and watching the games closely. While none of the games had the huge winning margins like Group One, all of the results were dominating. HUElavia, Sylestone's Matchday Two opponents, defeated Alice Bay 105-63, proving that they will be a difficult matchup. If Sylestone can grab a win, then they might stand a chance in this tournament after all. Kelssek defeated TJUN-ia by 73 points and took out first place in a game between two sides expected to make the knockout stages. In a non-roster clash, potential hosts United Civil Republic lost out badly to Mathuvan Union 142-88. Sylestone remains confident of their chances, but we shall wait and see whether their side can back it up over the coming days.

HUElavia gets Historic Opening Victory against Alice Bay!

HUElavia (13.27) 105-63 (9.9) Alice Bay

HUElavia began the ARWC with a commanding victory against Alice Bay. In a match where young men from colleges throughout the country were selected to play, they had a solid performance with the match. Camargo, Nakata, Dato, Alca, Baudet, and Caetano were the most productive players on the pitch as they helped the team score many points. HUElavia will play against Sylestone for the next match and have hope that they can win and keep a good streak going moving forward.

This takes place at the apartment of dock worker Joseph Lee, who was curious about Australian Rules Football and invited his friends over to his place to watch the match against United Civil Republic.

"There's a lot of players on the pitch!" Colleen Bostock, a deputy in human resources at the dock said.

"Yeah, they play 18 a side," Ed Quinn, a co-worker of Lee's said. He'd watched a few matches to prepare himself for how the match would look. It took him some getting used to, but he learned just enough to be able to explain the basics.

The match ended up a Sarzonia victory 128-108 over United Civil Republic. The people gathered in the apartment didn't understand anything that happened except for Sarzonia winning a match.

In the end, that's all they needed to understand.

Finnan could see Brendan Locky about to pull out the mini-speaker, so he raised his voice to get the attention of the locker room. "Hey, all right, all right. I wanted to say something... Now, big win out there! What the hell. We've come a long way out here, taking time off and everything. I don't know what time zone it is, there's like a couple hundred people there grown in vats, I don't know what fuckin' dimension we're in. But I'm proud of all you folks. This is a great team here. Morgan just walking in and kicking three goals off the bad. Aneurin, that mark you took in the third quarter. I mean we're up 30 points and you're still like, fuck no you aren't getting this inside fifty. Pricey, I never knew anyone could handball that far."

"It was a throw, the umpy wasn't looking!" someone else yelled.

"Now here's the thing, we never did settle on a team song, did we? Hell, we barely even got a training session together before we left. So..."

"Voyagers to Victory!" a couple of the players yelled.

"Yeah, you know what, we're the national team for this sport, right? We are the Voyagers. I mean, I have no fuckin' clue what the words are but we can do it. Alright, let's bring it in."

"A call goes out across Kelssek
It comes from out the land
Come rally round blah blah blah blah
For here we'll make our stand
Come on blah blah blah blah for all,
To make our mark in history
And side by side we'll swell the tide,
Voyagers to Victory!"

The Daily Boing

Baggieland 13.21.99 def. Megistos 6.12.48

Baggieland kicked off their World Cup Campaign at a packed Waverley Oval at the home of Aussie Rules; the city of Albion. A passionate crowd of 82,612 saw their idols begin the group stage with a strong performance against Megistos. In matchday one, Megistos had completely destroyed their opponents and beat them by a 158 point margin and some in the Baggieland camp were a bit worried about today’s adversary. They needn’t had worried though, as the Throstles disposed of Megistos by 51 points.

In the first quarter, Baggieland came out all guns firing and scored four goals to Megistos’ one, much to the delight of the home crowd. The away team came back stronger in the second quarter, scoring three goals, which Baggieland matched. The half time score was 7.10.52 to 4.5.29. Megistos were still very much in the game and they must have fancied upsetting the home support in the second half.

In the third quarter the Throstles outscored their opponents by three goals to one, meaning that in the final quarter Megistos had it all to do. Unfortunately for the visitors they couldn’t break through a strong Baggielandian defence, nor stop their forwards from scoring.

Dunstall was the pick of the forward line, scoring five goals and five behinds, and the Baggielandian faithful will be hoping that he goes on to have a strong tournament.
Keep the faith, keep on boinging!
