Independent Associations Championship 24
Everything/IC

The Sultanate of Saterun, in partnership with the SFF, is very excited to host the 24th edition of the Independent Associations Championships. We're hoping for a thrilling tournament that delivers the drama and excitement the IAC is known for. Matches will be hosted all over the country, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the 4 islands. Below, you can find information on the format, rules, and schedule of the tournament. Questions should be posted in the discussion thread or TG'd to me.

Format

There will be 8 groups of 5 teams, with the top two in each group advancing to the knockouts. From there, it will be a straight single-elimination knockout phase to determine the winner. The knockouts will be drawn A1vB2, B1vA2, ect. Tiebreakers will be points, goal difference, head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference, coin flip. I will be using Recu's updated IAC+ ranks.

Schedule

Cutoffs will be every two days, around 7-8pm UTC. If for any reason there is a delay, I will do my best to communicate as far as possible ahead.

MD1: July 31 (2v5,3v4,1 bye)
MD2: August 2 (1v2,3v5,4 bye)
MD3: August 4 (1v3,5v4,2 bye)

AI Policy: AI text and images must be clearly stated, and will not contribute to RP bonus. Using AI to translate is allowed, but the text must also be posted under a spoiler in the original language. Finally, please be transparent if AI was used to help generate ideas for roleplaying. I'll be a lot more lenient on this one, especially since the actual meat of the writing was done by the human, but part of the RP is the creative element of coming up with a baseline idea.

Rosters

Posting a roster is worth up to one full matchday RP bonus, and teams that do not post a roster will have their rank set to 0 until they post one. In your roster, you should include your players, coaching staff, info about your team, and your style modifier. A style modifier is a number between -5 and 5, which determines your team's style of play. -5 is highly defensive, while 5 is highly offensive. Any team that doesn't add a style modifier or doesn't post a roster will get a style mod of 0.

Welcome to Saterun!

Image

Overview
Saterun is a mid-sized country, with the main island being about 230,000 square miles. The country has a population of 34,000,000. The people love sport, and the country is no stranger to hosting international teams. Saterun hosted editions I&II of the Lazarus Cup of Nations, a regional tournament for Lazarus, and a few editions of the Jenna Raven Cup. Tsear FC, whose home stadium will be used in the late stages of the tournament, hosted many teams during its run to the Associations Trophy Quaterfinals during the latest IFCF season. That stadium, the Tsear Tsuperdome, also hosted the finals of both the Liga B Champion's Trophy and the Rising Star's Cup of the same IFCF cycle. Each state has a specific culture and feel, with some big differences between east and west.

Culture
Although many small pockets of minority culture exist in Saterun, there are three main cultures: Agrillistic, Shaantam, and Bnadatish. Agrillistic culture prevails mainly in the west and southwest, and links to a hot summer climate. Possibly due to the climate, the people inhabiting these regions are generally laid-back, which gives Agrillistic culture as a whole a very calm feel. This region has produced many sports stars, mainly Justin Ydrossoponol and Appfel Maconaires. Shaantam, which prevails in the east, is very different. Although it too places importantce on sport, Shaantam culture also places extreme importance on hard work and education. It was this that let it seemlessly transition to being home of the new capital after the Civil War. The hotbeds of Shaantam culture, Anasb and Fontecoro, located on the southeast edge of the main island, will host several matches of the tournament. Bnadatish is a tough, northern culture. Generally resticted to the outer three islands, it encompasses the least amount of people. For someone without a firm grip on Saterun history, Bnadatish may feel entirely un-Saterun. The top three island were not originally part of the country, and were only added during the Reeskavov dynasty, hence their slight removal from the mainland.

Travel
Almost every major city has an international airport in Saterun. Airport codes are simple, with the first and last inital plus a number giving the name. For example, Anasb's airport code if AB4. Once you land, shuttles can take you throughout the airport and even sometimes into the nearby city. Saterun, being an island, also has many ports. The largest of these, Port of Ias, in the city of Ias, located in the southern state of Enhias, deals with thousands of passangers a day. Its shipping counterpart, also called the Port of Ias, deals with hundreds of thousands of containers a week. Of course, international trade is a major part of this, but domestic travel is often done on the sea too. On land, you can find primarily bus and metro travel. Cars are also plentiful on roads, and numerous car rental agencies are available to foreigners. Each team will be provided a seperate bus used to transport between the hotel and the stadium.

Lodging
Each host city is assigned a hotel for any teams that might be staying there. If your match is in:
Anasb- Karl Sommer Hotel and Resort
Fontecoro- The Graduate Hotel
Tsear- Grand Sízian Hotel
Daxler- Palomas Inn and Suites
Tammen- The Seaside Complex
Futsworth- Castle Resort
Xaiv- The Orbital Hotel and Restaurant
Ias- Crystal Rock Hotel
Mieteng- The Meridan Suites
The hotels have been curated personally by the SFF, and are regarded as some of the best in the nation. Each team has an entire floor rented out for their stay. Of course, a team may have to play matches in different cities, in which case they will need to move hotels, and will get a new floor at a new hotel.

The Venues
Images of all the stadiums can be found here: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=sat ... id=1719247
A higher quality map can be found here: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=sat ... id=1804000

Anasb:
The capital and crown jewel of the Marja dynasty, Anasb combines a modern skylines with historic districts that are older the the state of Saterun itself. Anasb is the cultural capital of the East, and supports two teams in the Saterun A Liga. The food is amazing, and the city is located just 7 miles away from the ocean. Anasb is the third largest Saterun city by population, and, as the capital, also contains all of the administrative buildings. Popular attractions include the Diamond Palace, Anasb Central Zoo, and the Statue of Sha'lam.
Stadiums: Sultan Stadium, Racetrack Road, Continental Field

Tsear:
The largest city in the nation and the original capital under the Reeskavov dynasty, Tsear is the heart of Saterun. With a metro population of 3.4 million, Tsear and its surrounding neighborhoods are a dynamic and fun mixing ground of everything special about Saterun. Tsear boasts incredible public transport, extremely safe neighborhoods, and a sports culture that is unmatched anywhere else in the country. The FC/AC rivalry is a can't-miss event during the A Liga season.
Stadiums: Estadio Blanco Oro, Tsear Tsuperdome

Tammen:
If Anasb is the symbol of Shaantam, Tammen is the lifeblood of Agrillistic culture. This tropical beach city has a vibrant pulse, and is known for having the best weather in all of Saterun. The multiversal-famous Meyeres Beach lines the bustling downtown, and Tammen also has the highest concentration of elite universities in all of Saterun, possessing three in its downtown area. If there's a party city in Saterun, it's definitely Tammen.
Stadium: The Hycanthenium

Futsworth:
Despite not even being in the top 5 for population, Futsworth actually has the largest area of any city in Saterun. This is down mostly to geography, as the hillier northeast of the country, where Futsworth is located, forces towns and cities to spread out in search of buildable land. Futsworth is a very sports-oriented city, with Futsworth United being a strong side in the A Liga. Futsworth is also home to the best water polo, handball, and basketball teams in the country.
Stadium: Stade de Lume

Ias:
Ias is the fourth largest city in Saterun by population, and the major trading hub of the country. It also has the most amount of immigrants of any Saterun metro area, likely because the Saterun Amnesty Administration runs through the City of Ias. Ias is strongly connected to Lazarus, and has a thriving international district. Being the major port city, it has excellent seafood, and if you're in the area, you have to try sanumi, and fish plate rolled in rice and seaweed.
Stadium: Crescent Arena

Daxler:
The second historic capital of Saterun, Daxler served as the nation's center during the Republic era. This causes it to be significantly removed from the ruling family over in Anasb, and fiercely independent. Daxler's officials celebrate the city's rich history of democracy, which is often at odds with the agenda of the Marja family. Expect to see lots of old Republic flags, as well as street names that commemorate previous presidents.
Stadium: Adam Antwerp Arena

Mieteng:
Mieteng is one of the great cities of the South. The city center is split into the three major neighborhoods of Rolend, Sultana, and Faes-Hasting. Rolend is the old town, Sultana is the new, densly-populated center, and Faes-Hasting (or "FH", as it's known to locals) is the newer, hippier southern side of the city. Mieteng is well known for its art, and the Soprendido Gallery at the State Art Museum is the largest collection in Saterun.
Stadium: Banc of Saterun Park

Xaiv:
The sister city of Ias, Xaiv is located a bit more south, on the mouth of the River Asltan. This turned it into the original trade hub of the country, before Ias's rise. Just behind the city sits the Hellenic Rainforest, the largest forest and only rainforest in Saterun. Xaiv rivals Tsear in terms of culture, as the city is a hotspot of the Carnolic minority culture. When in Xaiv, visiting the St. Fiero Cathedral is a must, as it is one of the five great architectural projects completed before the modernization under the Reeskavovs.
Stadium: Hymes Road

Fontecoro:
Often overshadowed by Anasb, Fontecoro is a substantial city in its own right, and it also the eastern-most point of the main island. It accounts for 65% of its home state of Portura's population, and everything that happens in Portura happens in Fontecoro. Originally founded by Burikinian migrants, Fontecoro has many relics of the past, as well as some of the most modern facilities in all of the Saterun. The Charles Hummer Regional Airport is said to be the nicest in the country.
Stadium: Fontecoro Municipal Stadium

Each group will have two stadiums assigned to it. The first match listed will take place in the first stadium, and the second will take place in the second listed stadium.

About the Manager

Shane Newman is a Baker Park born, who took the chance to become the first NT boss for Havynwilde with an understanding that he would have time & resources to build from scratch. He was hounded by negative media coverage, the unrealisitc expectations of supporters & the governing body, and no investment to correct the dearth of talent in the domestic league. He was unceremoniously fired while out of the country on holiday. He'll consider his time there a learning experience. Was the chief defensive architect for the BPNT in the first three WC cycles.Aged 49 and married with three children--a boy and two girls--he will look to the domestic league for talent by focusing on technique, pace, and positional flexibility.

The goblin species were divided into three families were Grundjees are one of the major part. The other two families are called Mithys and Auris. The current members of the grundjee family is Colonel Grundjee who is a Colonel in the royal army of Indusse. The gene of colonel Grundjee was created by merging the genes of three colonels of the army with the genes of a eagle and the green algae. The green algae plays a necessary role in getting the green Color of the skin. The other member is Goblin Grundjee who is currently playing for the juniors. His gene was created by merging the genes of David Bekem, a former football and of a wild horse. The green algae is also a necessary part of the composition. The grundjee family has the green composition of skins due to green algae. Whereas, Mithys has a brownish red skin due to the presence of Blue-green Algae with Iron sediments, Auris family has the skin Color of a normal human as there isn't any presence of algae. The skin textures and patterns of the goblins are same as the humans and the color is the only thing that can discriminate it with humans. The scientific community believe that the goblin race will create revolution in the world of science. The creation of Goblin Grundjee was overseen by fellow player Bechun Butea who also played a major role in bringing Grundjee as a experimental player. Well, Grundjee is currently one of the best strikers the nation has seen.

Home Ground

The Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium, is home to the Flocking Blues and is the largest sports stadium in the nation. The Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium can hold 131,561 spectators in normal cases. The most attendance recorded for an event in the stadium was 148,241 spectators. This historical event happened long before the current stadium had been built. The former stadium known as IFA International Stadium had just a capacity of 108,112 and the event was the Sworn-in of Baskar H Kumar as the first president of the Indusse. In other words, the sworn in was also the same as the nation's independence day. The most spectators for a match was recorded as 118,232 spectators for a match between Indusse and Pratapgadh which was once a derby match.
Image

This Stadium was built first by Aditya Varma Kulashekara, the emperor of Indusse at his reign. The stadium was built as part of giving the Indussean Football Association, a home ground. The Stadium at its beginning had a capacity of 62,122 spectators and was later increased to 97,783. The Stadium also in the past hosted the home matches of Royal Hind City FC (Currently, New Hind City FC) and Hind United FC (Currently dissolved). The Hind United FC got dissolved into Royal Hind City FC and the club through enough funding brought some land near the Darbar Halls and built a stadium there which currently serves as their home ground and the nation's secondary home ground. The IFA Stadium was built close to the Hind River and was surrounded by small forests. The place then known to be Kadaathaaaru was chosen for the stadium, the name literally meant to be "Forest River". The stadium continued to host the nation's home matches until the IFA was disbanded after the invasion of the Islamic Conquerors. The Dari Sultanate rulers took over the nation and placed a ban on all sort of native entertainment including music and sports. The stadium was taken under the custody of the Dari Military and was converted into a arena to propagate Dari Propoganda. The Stadium was renamed as Neimat Abdullah Arena and the capacity was increased to 108,112. The Neimat Abdullah Arena also became the public execution grounds of Natives in Indusse. The Dari Supressed Native Freedom Fighters were beheaded, hanged and shot dead at these grounds. After the Independence, the stadium was renamed as IFA Stadium and held the nation's first independence day celebrations. After a few years, it was renamed to Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium and the capacity was increased to 131,561. The Government then also decided to set up a monument for the natives who were killed by the supression. The Divya Azadi Stambh (Divine Freedom Pillar) located in the stadium complex is the so called monument. This Pillar is an important part of the nation's independence day celebrations.

The United Autonomous Provinces of the Visayas Islands, commonly called Visayas Islands, is a federal parliamentary constitutional monarchy nation in the Asian part of the Island Of Union. The Visayas Islands covers 71,503 square kilometers and has has an estimated population of 21,155,014. The Visayas Islands comprises of 15 autonomous provinces, 3 autonomous provincial districts, a metropolitan district, 6 major islands, an autonomous independent state, and 3 disputed territories.

Sports have been popular with the Visayans to young and old but football is one of the most popular sports in the Islands beside basketball, volleyball, and boxing. It was first brought by the British in mid-1890s when the first wave of European immigration to Visayas happened. It was loved by everyone and even wholeheartedly supported the football team since the 1934 Far Eastern Games. And still is the most popular sport in all over Visayas Islands ever since.

After the match, the team went to the fans and sing together a patriotic ballad called, "Visayas". It was written by Ramiro Enríquez, a schoolteacher and a composer in Antique, whose song gave it to the late Jacinto "Jas" Narvaja, who gave life to the song. It wasn't intended to have that in the first but whem Nonoy Zarzuela sang the opening lines, the whole crowd joining in, it goes to basketball and until now, every sport as a post-match victory song.

Keep An Eye On:
Benzor NORSEDEN
He was just 15 years old when he entered the 99th World Cup on the Edsmon squad, yet he proved to be a strong opponent.
Very tall and muscular compared to others at his age level, Benzor was able to directly compete with senior attackers that were even double his age.
Now 16 years old, Norseden enters the U21 WC and 24th IAC to fight with Edsmontik until they reach their end.
Norseden falls back a lot and does his best to intimidate his opponents.
He is quick on his feet and is very hard to nutmeg.
However, his focus can be his enemy, as he can stumble when his eyes are too concentrated on his opponent.

Information
The Karmic Republic of Edsmontik is located on the very Northeastern tip of Karma, bordering the East Karman Ocean.
It is home to approximately 198 million people, which mostly live in the densely populated cities of Touve, Woodhill, Yaneu, and more.
The Edsmon population is diverse, full of people from every corner of Karma and other regions around the multiverse.
People commonly come to the nation to witness the ice-cold winters in Skejiver and Northeviige-Tretovikenhanz, the beautiful beaches of the coastal cities, and the massive sports events that range from stock car racing to football/soccer and handball.

Being so far north, the summers are mild temperatures, barely going past 60 degrees Fahrenheit in the warmest areas.
Winters can be freezing, especially up in Skejiver and N.T., with temperatures dropping as low as -7 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sports have had a long history in the nation, beginning as far back as the early 1700s when Vdes, Lunsfjall, and Taya-Trosi were planning to unify.
Sports boomed during this time, with people looking for ways to entertain themselves.
And eventually, when Edsmontik was formed, the nations combined their sports into leagues and competitions.

Touve Suberarenae
Image
Image created using AI*
Located in southeastern Touve in Austrankank, the Touve Suberarenae is the World Cup's Edsmon stadium.
Looking at its former shell just three years prior, what it fits now is simply not able to be compared to.
Edsmontik has done a lot; and they'll be showing it through their new and first 100,000 seats stadium.
Following the Suberarenae will soon be every other major stadium- to possibly house 75000-90000 fans each.
The new Suberarenae is built partially into the ground and will be Touve Tajhav's home stadium starting the 2031 season.
It is estimated that 100,870 people will be able to sit in this stadium.

Choppyhausenian Football Association
Independent Associations Championship 24 Squad

Despite their long and rich history, Choppyhausen has refrained from any kind of foreign relation during the long lasting monarchy in the recent decades, making it nearly impossible for citizens to visit other countries or participate in international sport events. Now, one year after the democratic revolution and the fall of the isolationist monarchy, the Council of Choppyhausen has decided to open up its borders and start working on some international relations. With that, the nation's athletes are finally able to compete in international tournaments again. The Under 18 team has already started to show the world what Choppyhausen is capable of with their successes in the HansAir U18 World Cup in Doubeia and now it is time for the main national team to do the same in Saterun.

Coach Harmon Merrit's team may lack international experience, but they make up for it with individual quality and high motivation, compensating for their limited time playing together. Led by national goalkeeping legend and captain Weiner-Kracht, the tactics of the Choppyhausen national team revolve around their quick and technically gifted wingers, Keil and Iduna. In attacking and counter-attacking situations, the full-backs – known for their accurate crosses – push forward to support the attack, aiming to find Corte, Choppyhausen’s classic centre-forward, in the box.
When out of possession, they drop back to support the tall central defenders, working to shut down any threat from the opposition.

After everything they had gone through, it seems the team has finally found a new life.

World Cup 99 saw The Anchors completely revolutionize themselves, attaining the best run they've ever had at a World Cup by finishing in the Quarterfinals and only bowing out by a 1-0 loss to the Squornshelan Remnant States. After the redemption and revival that the national team saw in the 23rd edition of the Independent Associations Championship spearheaded by (Then newly assigned) Leonardo Bianchi, they brought that good form to the World Cup and showed a new level of play never seen before. And now, entering the 24th edition of the IAC, Aphrilia holds steadfast as one of the quickly upcoming mainstays of the independent nations. The aim? Get as good of a run in the IAC as possible.

TEAM TACTICS
UNOFFICIAL: This is not an official analysis, this was a community effort by several Aphrilians. Thanks to OuijaBard_222 & falcoSmarts for the online summarization and everyone else who contributed to making this analysis! Man the new national team tactics are a headache to figure out.

AN/EDIT 1: Seems like our analysis was spot on. Thank goodness! For anyone wanting to use the information from our analysis, do note that these tactics are dated to around WC99. Of course, there will likely be an update depending on if there will be further changes made by the national team themselves.

Leonardo Bianchi maintains that The Anchors continue to play a 4 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 2 Diamond.

The new tactics that the national team are using seem to be a blend of both old and new. The team still has that whole "Anchor" thing controlling the team's pace and tempo, but it also looks like the players have apparently been given freedom to break out of tempo when needed (Whether to recover from mistakes or take advantage of them, among other scenarios). Other changes include that The Anchors seem to have ditched the whole "specific tempo" thing and just play according to the pace that the the "Anchor" sets. It's more difficult to describe since it's not as tight-knit or precise, but that would be the general gist of how they play. Of course, it's still not as fast as usual offensive oriented teams, but the average speed of play seems to have been increased. And honestly? This was definitely coming sooner or later, and fortunately it was the latter.

As for the team's offense and defense... Let's start with the former. The team seems to have made changes in how the team attacks. Sure, they still play on the counterattack to take the opposition off-guard, but they've also added a lot of variety in how they move the ball forward. They let players who specialize in certain areas play completely to their strengths (Forrestal out wide to cut in, Rosberg just outside the opposition box, etc), and each player seems to know when to attack now. But the biggest changes were for defense. Historically this was a high-press team, but Bianchi with his Bianchism was known best for the usage of the offside trap. Well now? Seems like they're keeping the high-press but for man-to-man. But when doing zonal defense, the team seems to switch to a mix of zonal marking with the offside trap (Is that how it should be described?). In short, the team's made changes and improvements everywhere, Bianchi is a gamechanger, and this team should (Hopefully) do better this time around.

FAN CULTURE
Aphrilians can be both patriotic and respectful most of the time. The keywords in that sentence being most of the time.

At home, Aphrilians will be chanting, singing, and cheering on from the beginning to the end of the match. And with the Millennium Dawn Stadium being designed in a way that gives the home crowd a good advantage (All within the rules), expect intense pressure from the stands. Tifos will be displayed, flags will be waved. No matter the end result, this nation will support it's team to the very end. However, they will be respectful to the opposition team and the away fans that travelled all the way to Darlingtown to see their team. Alcohol is banned in stadiums in a continuous effort to keep hooliganism at bay, and security is guaranteed for the teams as well as fans. The home crowd are friendly a lot of the times, so expect harmony and kinship before and after the match. This attitude is also shared for those who go to the away games, being respectful and proud.

And that is most of the time. However, when Aphrilians do end up getting rowdy, they can often cause quite the commotion. Public disturbance, vandalizing, damage to public and private property, those kind of things. But overall, the fanbase is calm enough that these occurrences are a sort of "once in a blue moon" kind of thing. In most cases where Aphrilians are reserved before and after matches, they often socialize with not only their own but also away fans whenever The Anchors are playing at home. On away days, the fans that are willing to make the trip will be sociable depending on if there's any restrictions placed on them as away fans or not. Generally having fun with each other before and after the matches by sharing songs, playing games with one another, enjoying the before and after festivities of a hopefully exciting football match.

Well, let’s try our luck with this one! We might need a couple more forwards though, since this has effectively meant that we are using ALL our available forwards! Yes, we have changed to 6 forwards, 2 midfielders, 2 defenders.

Independent Associations Championship 24

Taxhavn
Tournament Squad
Attacking Modifier: +3.3

Home Colours: Debit Balance Red
Away Colours: Credit Balance Black
Third Colour: Safe Deposit Box Gold

Nickname: The Shillingmen
Formation: Offensively-minded 4-3-2-1 (The Pyramid Scheme) morphing to 5-3-2 and 4-4-2 in certain plays

Taxhavn is a crowded island of 22.432 million people, and most of them are billionaires. There are a few poor millionaires in the north of the island, and a few trillionaires who reside very much in the south. In the east is a big mountain, with a handful of zen masters who have rejected the silver dollar and reside in harmony with nature and their solid gold and diamond-encrusted buddha statues ('buddha' is a corruption of the word 'Búa', the principle deity of Wight). The mountain is called Mount Schilling.

I have probably exaggerated about the number of billionaires, but you get the picture - Taxhavn. I almost guarantee every rotten banker in your country has a second home in St. Bernadine or Oranjestadt or Havn, and some unnumbered accounts in the Oroboros or Sept-Nat or Stadler banks. They might not admit it, but they do. Taxhavn is an island built on piles of money, with launderettes on every corner just washing banknotes 24/7. And recently, lavish spending on football, which - turns out - is a brilliant way to flush through some of those ill-gotten gains.

Determinded to attract the brightest stars and the greatest success to the domestic SteuerLig, the Taxhavn football authority FA-Tax encouraged clubs into spending vast fortunes doling out pension funds to over-the-hill former football stars of the multiverse, and snapping up doe-eyed youths too with insane salary offers and fast cars for 12-year-olds. They aren't so worried about dominating world football - although that would be nice - as making sure they overpay for everything and get that cash rinsed good and proper.

Next on the list was a national team to reward the increasingly frustrated local professionals who are having to fight for their places with a bunch of incomers after better incomes. 'The Shillingmen' are the isle's finest players. And there are actually some good ones, to be fair. After all, thanks to a very close - some might say too close - relationship with the Valley of the River Delte, where a World Cup and an Independents Championship went back in the day, two of them played in the famous final victory over Tumbra in '95. That's right. Taxhavnites have World Cup winners medals.

The Taxhavn national team enters the Indies for the fourth consecutive tournament as FA-Tax try to 'grow the brand', 'export the product', 'invest vigorously' and a whole bunch of other business strategies that don't appear to have much to do with actual football, so far as anyone can tell. They are building a national football centre on nearby von Arnold Island 'to create a root and branch tactical identity', and have come up with a new nickname following a ₸X4m (Tax Shillings) contract with a marketing company and are now called The Shillingmen, 'creating a label Taxhavnites can get behind with their famous pecuniary passion'. I could've given them that one for free. But what this all means is, they are quite serious about international football now and see the IAC as a tournament they want to become synonymous with.

The big news ahead of IAC-23 was that national team coach Bradely Kemerer-Lascelles, the Quebeçois master who made FC Städeli a modern giant of FFI club football, had departed his lucrative hunting grounds in Taxhavn in search of a new challenge - with the IAC-20 winners and current hosts Saterun. More controversy followed as FA-Tax immediately poached top coach Nelis Fijnwever, such a powerhouse at Standard Lily, who had only just made the switch to new 'superclub' Taxhavn City. Not only that, but he brought several of his coaching team from the Triple-A, as City insist on being nicknamed, including Maxime Hug - to be his assistant - and Leonard Blondell as his senior coach. Taxhavn City were said to be furious with the FA, and legal action was threatened.

How did all that to-and-fro pan out? Not good. Not good at all. Both national teams failed to get out of their respective groups, and BKL was immediately let go by the furious FA at Saterun. Backtracking somewhat, FA-Tax moved to bring him back less than two months after his departure, but being a little less angry than his former bosses, they did not immediately sack Fijnwever. He still has credits within the halls of power in Taxhanite football - so BKL was brought in above him to oversee all the national teams, from the under-15s upward, as the brand new Director of SoccerLand - the new development centre for national football on von Arnold Island. Even so, the FA have demanded sweeping changes, and it was the players who felt the brunt of it. They were warned that the under-21s were playing for their places in the last di Bradini - lucky for the seniors, it was cancelled. But that hasn't stopped Brad & Nelis ringing the changes - eight players deemed to be underperforming for the national team have been dropped this cycle, including former rock'n'roll superstar striker Rik Dam. Coming in to replace them are debutants who have never played for national teams before, along with a couple promotions from the younger age groups. Players have been warned that for many of them, this is the last chance to shine. With the under-21 and under-18 tournaments warming up, FA-Tax and BKL are looking at a refresh. Any poor showings this time could spell the end of the players involvement.

After two consecutive failures to get out of the group stage, expectations for the Shillingmen are low. But FA-Tax have demanded the team at least match their debut performance in the Indies, when BKL led the rookies to an impressive quarterfinal appearance, opening with a standing record victory of 5-0 against mighty Reçueçn - a famous win which seems a very long way off now.

The Shillingmen

HEAD COACH: Nelis Fijnwever, 47, built a title-winning team at Standard Lily and had a brief spell in charge of new superclub Taxhavn City before realising it wasn't for him
ASSISTANT: Maxime Hug, 43, former player and coach at St. Bernadine Amateur, met Nelis at Taxhavn City and jumped with him into the national team
SENIOR COACH: Leonard Blondell, 48, long-time colleague of Maxime Hug, at both Amateur and Taxhavn City, and now the Shillingmen
TECHNICAL ADVISOR: Climo Coss, 162 & three quarters, who has twice won the World Cup (with Wight & Delte) and most other things besides

If you RP first feel free to select anyone from the squad for scoring, incidents, injuries, etc.
All club teams are based in Taxhavn unless otherwise stated

The return of one-time superstar in waiting Benno Tschaggeny to the SteuerLig from his long sojourn for Florentino in Tequilo has been rewarded with a call up to the national team and he is expected to go straight into Nelis Fijnwever's thinking as a starting midfielder. Jonas Spori, Arrigo Napoleoni and Luis Glücki all rise in responsibility from backup players to key individuals, while perhaps the biggest casualty of the shake-up, apart from those who miss out completely, is former first choice goalkeeping favourite Barnaby Flexney. He had an awful tournament last time out and even lost his mojo a bit in the league, despite strong seasons for his club team Septentriennes. Some say he's lucky to still be on the plane, but it's debutant Victor van Drop who gets the #1 shirt in Nelis Fijnwever's new-look team.

Missing out completely are several key players including foreign-based stars Laurens Seuper and Jocki Moroff, fixtures since the start of the national teams in Taxhavn. Laurens was the national team captain, and his arm band now goes to striker and national team record scorer Zubi Zuberbühler. Rik Dam makes headlines for all the wrong reasons, transforming from team icon to scape goat and spending the IAC at home driving his fast cars around the island's expressways and into bus-stops.

Number Crunchers
The Ones To Watch

New additions to the hall of admiration for this cycle's roster - we have Orchideeën striker Jeroen Blenkers, who really is coming into his own in the SteuerLig and has been around the national team from the start; Septentriennes all-action left-back Jonas Spori, perhaps the most temperamental man on the bus; and national team debutant Benno Tschaggeny, back from exile in Tequilo. Other jolly good players are also available - Purlie Stöckli, Renni Boom and Victor van Drop in particular will be disappointed not to be included in this list. Their time will come, surely.

Goalkeepers

Barnaby Flexney
The youngest of the goalkeeping selections for the national team, Barnaby has 'Shillingman Legend' written all over him. He's got an impressive physique, is an acrobatic shot-stopper and joins the modern breed of keepers who can actually play a bit of football. He'd been nothing short of brilliant at Septentriennes in recent seasons, answering everything asked of him. If he had a weakness, it seemed to be a distinct lack of eccentricity in the young man - a fully reliable and sensible team member who must unsettle his back four with just how little he unsettles them. But then IAC-23 happened. For Barnaby, it was awful. It affected his confidence considerably and he is only now rebuilding, and dropping to third choice keeper for the national team, he only just made it on the plane. But if he can get back to his best... well, that's a pretty good keeper, right there.

Defence

Töbi Aerle
Turned out regularly for the Deltic representative team (although not for the victorious finals squad) before switching allegiances to his home country's new national team set-up. A young superstar on the island and a household name already, he came through the same youth ranks as Valentin Fey, but has twice switched clubs - to St. Bernadine Athletic and now the dominant FC Städeli, with a quiet ambition to reach the top. He is an influential key starter for the Shillingmen, leading the defensive side with panache.

V.W. Kampermann
Another youngster in a young defence playing alongside Töbi Aerle, VW is a joy to watch on the pitch, the perfect example of the new demand for defenders to play with intent, out from the back, on the ground, passing stylishly and intercepting attackers with guile rather than strength. Another that was lured to the new national setup from the Deltic camp, he was not selected for the World Cup finals glory team, but has been a mainstay of that camp for some time. He plays his domestic football for big hitters Orchideeën where he already has cult hero status in the back line along with Polarian Aslak Hrafninnsson in the league's meanest defence.

Jonas Spori
Coming through the Shakerssen youth team Jonas Spori was considered one of the team's major prospects, though he came with a reputation of being sometimes too hot to handle. The Shakers had - and continue to have - an impressive production line of talent for their own modest means (as they were, things are a bit different now) but in Jonas they really felt they had a star on their hands. Unfortunately, the rapid left back with brilliant positional understanding and a crunching tackle despite his light frame, had other ideas. He declined a professional contract when graduating the youth team, and to everyone's frustration, went to Septentriennes just up the road in St. Bernadine city, where he quickly established himself as first choice full back in a rising power team. He's still very difficult to handle, apparently, but at the Bankers they have managed to get the best out of him. And his best is pretty impressive.

Midfield

Lorin Müngers (Vice Captain)
An all-time crowd favourite at Old Shakerssens, where he came through the youth academy to be a permanent fixture for many years, Lorin is football's Mr. Nice Guy - popular with his team-mates, with the press, with the wider football world, and now with fans of all clubs thanks to his efforts with the embryonic national team. Not to say he's easy going or generous of spirit in-game. A player who will always be in the top two or three for km covered, tackles, interceptions, and pass completions, he is the chief disruptor on the pitch, protecting his defence and frustrating the channels of the opposition's offense.

Valentin Fey
Considered the brightest prospect of Taxhavnite football, Valentin came through the ranks at Raven Thöni and is a perfect wide attacker in any pressing system, coming in from the right to support both attack and midfield, or marauding wide to create havoc on the flanks. Possibly a future coach, he talks as good a game as he plays. He never stops working for the team. Valentin has switched loyalties from the Delts, for whom he played more than forty times, appearing as a starter in the victorious World Cup final of '95. Seeing the likes of Laurens Seuper and Jocki Moroff get contracts in superior leagues, there were fears he could be tempted to leave the SteuerLig, but he seems to have committed to his home league with a record-breaking move to perennial challengers Orchideeën.

Ko Horsman
The barnstorming defensive midfielder looks set to succeed Lorin Müngers in the back of the midfield, where he will bring large amounts of energy in an intimidatingly huge frame, some serious sprints, an eye for an interception, and knocking down opponents by both fair means and foul. If Lorin is football's Mr. Nice Guy, the Orchideeën midfielder is football's Wild Mustang. But despite his ever-ready willingness to use muscle and a smattering of high-speed violence to leave something on an opponent, he also happens to be a very competent footballer, good at reading the game, great at inspiring team-mates to try harder. May be too wild for Captain's material, but he is a leader and a warrior.

Benno Tschaggeny
Benno is the most famous Taxhavnite player you've never heard of. Coming through the BSN (Septentriennes) youth system, he was a very highly regarded defensive midfielder from a young age. When the club stepped in to rescue Tequiloan club Florentino from oblivion after the disaster of Flight-404 wiped out 95% of the team, they offered young Benno as one of several players on a loan mission to help La Viola rebuild for Liga-TQ. To the astonishment of everyone back home, a year later Florentino made the deal permanent, with BSN's seal of approval, and that was the last anyone really heard of Benno Tschaggeny. Until this season, ten years later, when FC Städeli paid Campeo Ventes, of Wightling Commonwealth nation Ipanema, a whopping ₸x12m. shillings for their 28-year old star midfielder. Welcome back to the fold, Benno.

Attack

Zubi Zuberbühler (Captain)
One of the most loved of all Taxhavnite players for his passionate play and goalscoring antics, Zubi has been a cult hero for years at cult club Old Shakerssens, where he played alongside Jocki Moroff and the legendary triumvirate defence of Foekers, Müngers and Uunks. The team has largely broken up now with Emiel Uunks retired and Jocki off the Q-League, and Zubi broke Shaker hearts by moving to top team FC Städeli, who have got themselves a ready-made legend. Never selected for the Deltic team, he comes to the new national setup as a 'pure Taxhavnite', and that will only increase his status on the island. With The Frigates he's won almost everything, including two FFI League of Victors titles, and is looking to have a similar impact with the Shillingmen.

Jeroen Blenkers
A one-club striker, Jeroen Blenkers has seen his career and reputation build gradually from relatively unregarded, to quietly becoming a key player at Orchideeën, where he has won everything available domestically, scored plenty of goals, made himself indispensible and a fan favourite, all without garnering the sort of headlines Super Zubi Zuberbühler makes week in week out for FC Städeli, or Rik Dam makes week in week out not so much for Taxhavn City as for his off-the-field and racetrack antics. Jeroen is quiet, reliable, dilligent and one hell of a number 10, quite willing to stand in the shadow of someone else's spotlight and make them into kings. No wonder they love him at the Nurserymen, where he's single-handedly turning young Polarian number 9 Casper Kinderman into exactly the kind of superstar who draws all the headlines. We love Jeroen just for being Jeroen, and for making everyone around him better than they already were.

SQUADRA NAZIONALE DI JUVENCUS

Image

Information about Juvencus:
Capital: Pomena
Population: Numbers may vary but close to 135 million Juven natives inhabit Juvencus, with a total population reaching 160 million
Demonym: Juven(Juvencano, Juvencan and others have been incorrectly used)
Country Code: JUE
Football Association: JFA(Juven Football Association)
Nicknames: Gli attaccanti(The attackers), La squadra(The team)
Football philosophy: At this point, to play football in Juvencus you need to understand that no matter who you are, pushing forward is the MOST essential core value you can bring in your game. Both strikers and defenders alike are equally likely to strike from any range at any time. Defense is not neglected, but is not as valued as being a scary goalscorer up front.
Official Record(WCC-Sanctioned only): 503 Games played(266 W - 121 D - 118 L)

La Squadra:

*BOLD & UNDERLINED INDICATES STARTER - Regional Identity/Ethnicity Indicated After Team

Goalkeepers:

This is a spot traditionally given to the players with the fastest reaction times and the grit to withstand the pressure of being the goalkeeper in a team that cares way more to attack than to defend. Despite the shit they receive in comparison to the rest of the team, those are true inspirations on the pitch and are always treated as such by players and other managers alike.

GK:Juan Carlos Ungaro (Age 31) (U.S Scudelli) - Sudjuven

GK:Sócrates Wright (Age 29) (AC Pomena) - Pomenienze
GK:Bardhyl Imeri (Age 26) (Cordoba FC) - Illireshtje
GK:Paula Rojas (Age 23) (AS Aguajú) - Sudjuven

This golden generation of Juven goalkeepers is one Gaetan will have a hard time replacing. The most important net positive from every single one is their flexibility to adapt in difficult situations from the most experienced to the least experienced of the goalkeepers. Juan Carlos Ungaro has cold blood, probably the nation's best penalty specialist, Wright is a goalkeeper known for his ability to keep a clean sheet in tumultuous situations. Imeri has quite possibly the most unmatched leaps in the multiverse or at least he is up there and last but not least, Paula Rojas is not afraid to take on players twice her own while being in impeccable positioning. Not much talent can even come close to competing with such a lineup of goalkeepers and the nation is both blessed and cursed to have those all at once, luckily, most of these goalkeepers are getting their time under the sun in near-equal numbers and the future seems secure.

Defenders:

The defender's position is always kept for players who are speedy, positionally adept and physically strong for their size and usually either have excellent leadership skills, game intelligence or a hot-headedness and most of a time a combination of the three. It is a position that also lacks the respect it deserves in Juven society, but it is one that is necessary in order to make it easier for the goalkeeper and the team as a whole.

CB:Carlo Callejon (Age 33) (Club de PruxxéImage) - Sudjuven/Pomenienze (Captain)
CB:Urbà Pujals (Age 23) (Port Rhovanyon AFCImage) - Santmat
CB:Caicedo Marroqui (Age 22) (FC Piluzzi) - Sudjuven/Qurijan

CB:Giorgio Stafilidi (Age 28) (FC Piluzzi) - Pomenienze/Ampelone
CB:Ignacio Lopes (Age 26) (U.S Scudelli) - Poi/Sudjuven
CB:Krònos Bellver (Age 20) (Herona Calcio) - Santmat

Less players to worry about, a new addition in Bellver, who had a magnificent season at Herona Calcio in the season that just passed. Meanwhile the core of the defensive backline has remained the same, as Gaetan is testing a smaller, more match-ready team and saw many players as "dead-weight" according to his last post match interview after la squadra was eliminated in the group stages of the World Cup. Youthful backline, a focus on speed and proper positioning is the goal here, maintaing the test of a Juven defender's archetype. Callejon is old but still holding on strong and serves as the guide for the younger players of the team. Marroqui's shock transfer to FC Piluzzi sees him step up in the eyes of the nation as an elite defender who is much-needed for elite club and international football.

Midfielders:

A midfielder is always a maestro on the pitch and depending on which side of the midfield they are in, their characteristics change. There's no pure centrocampista in Juvencus, instead players play as offensive-minded CDM's in the middle of the field. Those players usually have vision, exceptional passing or crossing and usually dictate the speed of the attack, the most necessary element of this team's tactics. They also fall back to form a bus when deemed absolutely necessary. In the sides, you have wide midfielders who act as supplementary wingers, players with speed who can provide to the wingers or the forwards when necessary. As such, you get to see fast players with great inward crossing and forward passing.

CDM:Giuseppe Conte (Age 32) (U.S Scudelli) - Pomenienze
CDM:Sara Ponce (Age 27) (AC Serone) - Pomenienze
RM:Simon Oliveira (Age 31) (Sivolvia CapitalistImage) - Poi
LM:Joao Peres (Age 25) (CF OutineauImage) - Poi

CDM:Félix Sissoko (Age 31) (Jolbonopolis UnitedImage) - Scudellois
CDM:Afrosina Bellacour (Age 19) (FC Piluzzi) - Pomenienze/Scudellois

RM:Paola Cernoia (Age 28) (Cordoba FC) - Pomenienze
RM:Zeusè Ponsac (Age 19) (AC Pomena) - Santmat/Scudellois

LM:Fantasia Bergoglio-Bertolini (Age 29) (Herona Calcio) - Pomenienze/Sudjuven
LM:Carla Acquati (Age 30) (FC Piluzzi) - Pomenienze

Less weight here, players are urged to be match-ready at all times. Ponsac and Bellacour's additions add a touch of technicality in an otherwise strongly brute force attacking midfield lineup. With both players shining in last season's Campionato, they are given the chance in the Independents Cup to prove their worth. In the meanwhile, Joao Peres becomes a midfield leader despite his age, thanking his performances with the national team for that.

Attackers:

A position held with the utmost respect as it has the most prestige in Juven football. The task to be picked for it is simple, you should know both how to score and how to supply goals. It is a position that has the most competition, as most talented Juven players are up in front and are very known across the multiverse for their prowess in front of the goal. As such, it is a position with a lot of pressure to be in, much like the goalkeeper. Wingers are fast, brilliant technicians who are excellent suppliers and have a confusingly good shooting technique. Strikers on the other, they have a strong finishing touch akin to an unstoppable force on a consistent level.

RF:Pau Vives (Age 22) (AC Pomena) - Santmat
LF:Carlo Bevilacqua (Age 26) (ChromatikImage) - Pomenienze
CF:Ceferino Audiol (Age 30) (SerrapinceImage) - Pomenienze/Santmat

LF:Ganymede Garcia (Age 31) (AC Pomena) - Pomenienze/Sudjuven
LF:Xavi Gasol (Age 23) (Herona Calcio) - Santmat
LF:Fortuno Ajello (Age 24) (FC Piluzzi) - Pomenienze

RF:Luizinho (Age 27) (Herona Calcio) - Poi
RF:Olivieru Montfret (Age 23) (AS Aguajú) - Santmat
RF:Gilberto Soares (Age 32) (U.S Scudelli) - Poi

CF:Julio Campana (Age 31) (Montreal CityImage) - Pomenienze/Poi
CF:Martin Teixeira (Age 27) (FC Piluzzi) - Poi
CF:Joaquim Jorba (Age 26) (FC Piluzzi) - Santmat

The attack is a bit of the same, too stacked and with too many players there was an implosion. There are still far too many players according to Gaetan but this number is more manageable than the one before. Olivieru Montfret's addition to the team adds spice to the attack. While more elite players, such as Ceferino Audiol or Quarto Bevilacqua will be plying their craft, inspiring millions across the nation.

Main formation:

Image
Starting lineup sheet. This means this is the strongest possible lineup. If your nation isn't strong, a rival or it's not late in the competition, do not use all 11 players, be realistic. Ignoring this means I'll ignore your roleplay altogether, should you RP first.

Gael Gaetan's version of the Pomenienze involves an equality in importance for attacks from both the center of the field as well as the sides. This means players are enticed to test out their luck more often than not and it promotes cooperation between players familiarised with each other. This has worked wonders for U.S Scudelli, who have gone on deep international club runs as well as having the highest scoring output in the Campionato.

The formation is the typical 3-4-3 marriage ring formation. 3 center backs form the core of the backline, while the two center center backs closer to the sides can have a sort of free role to move to the side to defend but also move up to the midfield to orchistrate any attacks. To join them are 2 of the central defensive midfielders, who tend to hold back when it comes to defence and start position but move up usually with through-balls and crosses to the attackers or wingers. The side midfielders act as secondary wingers, meaning they have the exact same role at a slower intensity, with crosses to the main strikers or long-shots being their strong suit, they are usually the fastest players in the team. The difference between them and the wingers is that wingers play more forward because they usually possess better technicality with the ball on their feet, meaning they are swift dribblers and are a bit more clinical in front of the net, other than that, they help the striker in the first line of offense and defence of the high-line. Lastly, the striker is the main scorer, usually being fed with crosses and through-balls by the rest of the team, usually with a strong shooting ability and headers being their main source of scoring. This doesn't mean wingers or side midfielders do not get a fair share of their slice, however.

When it comes to penalties, the player who earns it takes it. When it comes to long-range free kicks, a midfielder will take it, while short-range free kicks are to be kicked by any of the wingers.

Handrix Casfo seems to be the right man for the job. He brought Saterun back to the World Cup, even winning the qualifying group, although the actual tournament didn't go so well. Now, Saterun are playing in the nation's favorite tournament, at home soil. It certainly gives a bit of an advantage, but the pressure will really be on to produce something this time. The fans still have a bad taste in their mouths after what happened last time, and the best thing Casfo can do is give them something to cheer for again. This is expected to be a month long party, as Saterun welcomes fans from across the multiverse to the 4 islands. Focusing on the team, it's very similar to last time around, but Jack Le Mounde comes in while Masoud Shain takes the starting place of Cipriano Dalca. Casfo will likely stick to the style that served him well in World Cup Qualifying, emphasizing attack and pursuit of a win. It'll be his maiden run in this tournament, and he'll hope to continue Kameron Boyd's legacy and capture at least a medal. However, the Claws have been given a tough opening group, and they'll take the field for the first time in matchday 2 against Valentine Z in what will surely be a great match. The Indies have finally come to Saterun, but can Handrix Casfo restore the Claws to the summit?

About Seeberg

The Gemeinschaft of Seeberg is a small and landlocked country located high up in the misty mountains. Once a confederation of small villages nestled in the deep valleys, it is now a unitary state governed by the Landsrat. The political structure is semi-parliamentary in nature, but weak democratic traditions and love of consistency has ensured continued governance by the establishmentarian and slightly reactionary Verein für den anhaltenden Ruhm der Bergvölker (VfdaRdB) for as long as most people can remember.

Image
Map of Seeberg

The capital is Brinterberg. A sprawling «urban village» situated at the foot, and high up on the slopes, of the Horkenheim mountains, where over two thirds of the population reside. An old and arguably quaint city, it is made up of Jugend housing, Baroque palaces and Gothic places of worship. Tyrolean styled houses in various sizes (block, two or three storey) dominate the north and eastern parts that are predominantly situated on the hills and up the mountains. The smaller towns of Kügeldorf, Bernsdorf, Hinterdorf and Rothaus are to be found in neighboring valleys. It is reasonable to say that there exists widespread Brinterberg-chauvinism within the capital and adjacent areas whereby other parts of The Gemeinshaft is looked down upon.

Main exports are violins and critical theory, the latter supplied by the renowned Brinterberg Institute for Social Research. The Gemeinshaft is a deeply conservative society, characterized by Cremeschnitte cakes, large mustaches and repressed sexuality. Some of the Brinterberg School’s most prominent theorists claim that this is likely the only form of society where a truly critical theory could ever emerge, although this is generally regarded as poppycock. National pastimes and preferred sports are Graeco-Roman wrestling, various equestrian disciplines and archery. Football has been played for many years in the valleys below the Horkenheim mountains, but the professionalization of it is recent. A few wealthy enthusiasts founded the Seeberg SuperLiga ten years ago and it has slowly been building momentum and growing in popularity. Currently only five teams compete in the SuperLiga and it is dominated by the two big Brinterberg teams Verein für Bewegungsspiele Brinterberg (VfBB) and Der Sportverein Brinterberg (DSVB).

The national team - nicknamed The Horkenheimers - first entered international competition in the 21st IAC.

About Muralos
Muralos is a collection of islands in the Far East known as Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. It is home to a population of Russian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and indigenous (Ainu, Nivkh, and Orok) origins. The official language of Muralos is Esperanto- a language designed to be universal and easy to learn- but the population is exceptionally multilingual, with each citizen knowing an average of 4 languages.

The Muralosian National Soccer Team
(also known as the Hawks, after Muralos’ national animal, the Muralosian Hawk)

The Muralosian national soccer team represents Muralos in association football (or soccer, as Muralosians call it). It is controlled by the Muralosian Soccer Association, the governing body for soccer in Muralos. Muralos' home ground is the Komcatt Arena in the capital city of Urbego, and its current coach is Jozefo Koltakov, former striker for CSKA Urbego and later Muralosian national team captain. Hina Kageyama and Pavel Li serve as assistant coaches.

Kits
Unusually, the Muralosian national soccer team uses only one kit with two of the national colors of Muralos. These uniforms are brand new, as the Muralosian populace voted to adopt a new flag in 2022.
Image
Kit made with the kit maker at Owayo.

Roster
The Muralosian roster is built around the former Muralosian men's national soccer team, whose members comprise the starting lineup. The starting players were quite young when they joined the roster in 2016. Now, they are tried-and-true forces, who (as part of the former men's team) won the Second International Football Cup in Squidroidia in 2020 after 4 years of not facing competition.

The former Muralosian men's national team and former Muralosian women's national team merged in December 2020 to form the current co-ed team. In doing so, the Muralosian Soccer Association preserved the starting lineup of the former Muralosian men's national team, while adding players from the former Muralosian women's national team to the reserves. To make up for this haphazard arrangement, the Hawks' management frequently starts its female players– including Tanya Lubimova, Rebeka Mori, Aminda Mori, Galina Shchedrina, and Valora Lin– not only in the interests of gender equity, but also because of these players' exceptional skill.

The co-ed Muralosian national team has found success, though it has not earned any titles yet. The co-ed Hawks reached the Round of 16 in the 74th Baptism of Fire, as well as the Round of 16 in the 12th Independent Associations Championship, which Muralos co-hosted with Almuzahara.

Starting Lineup of the Muralosian National Soccer Team
  • #1- Rodion Markov - Goalkeeper - as part of the U-20 Muralosian squad, he was nicknamed "the Prophet" for his formidable accuracy in guessing the direction of penalty kicks and capability to pass very wide, "seeing beyond" any obstacles.
  • #2 - Ryo Takeda - Right back - a quick, agile defender who is a key piece in all of the Hawks' counterattacks, though his explosiveness can lead to costly fouls. The only (but not the first) player on the Muralosian national team with Ainu ancestry, Takeda is Japanese on his father's side and Hokkaido Ainu on his mother's side.
  • #4 - Aleksandro Kim - Center back - born in Kurilo of Korean descent, Kim moved to Urbego at the age of 13 to attend Urbego's Zamenhof High School and was part of the team that won the FIS, Muralos' premier high school championship, in 2008.
  • #5 - Rikardo Lei - Center back - his grandparents were Fengjieans who were doctors during the Muralosian Civil War. (Unfortunately, the nation of Fengjie ceased to exist.) Exceptionally strong defender who played a very large role in the Asian Archipelago Regional Cup, most notably in the match against Elbaron in which the Hawks won 2-1.
  • #3 - Koralo Petrov - Left back - another player who rose to fame through an FIS championship. Makes very wide passes and is regarded as a good team player.
  • #6 - Mikhail Zheng - Left midfield - part of the same FIS-winning team as Aleksandro Kim. Had a brief stint playing in the Premier League of Li Qing (now the Confederation of Australian States) before returning to become a member of the Hawks.
  • #7 - Johano Abramovich - Center midfield - Formidable dribbling skills, also the leader in assists during the Asian Archipelago Regional Cup. Jokingly dubbed "the creative type" by coach Koltakov, Abramovich is well known for his long-range, curved shots, which proved useful in Muralos' 7-4 victory against Li Qing in early 2016. In recent years (since the 11th IAC), Abramovich has taken fewer of these shots, but he is still effective at assisting the Hawks' strikers.
  • #8 - Nikolaj Granda - Center midfield - No relation to Walter Granda, who represents Muralos in professional tennis. Despite what his last name may suggest, Granda is a rather petite player. At only 5'7", his shorter stature allows him to be more agile and less injury-prone compared to taller opponents.
  • #11- Vilhelmo Lumin - Right midfield - a cum laude graduate of Urbego National University, where he played in the Muralosian University League, Lumin made his first international appearance as a substitute player during the Asian Archipelago Regional Cup. Following the retirement of veteran Klaus Sverov, however, he joined the starting lineup in Muralos' match against New Zhengguo in the Embassy Cup.
  • #9 - Rui Zhang - Striker - Remarkably fast and shoots penalties with good accuracy. One of the more underrated members of the team.
  • #10 - Adamo Brava - Striker - the 33-year-old team captain, widely considered to be the star player of the Muralosian team and an answer to some premier overseas soccer players. Despite his status, however, he is also known for his maturity and humility, often representing the Muralosian team in interviews and awards ceremonies.

Reserves of the Muralosian National Soccer Team
The reserves of the Muralosian national soccer team are newer to the team. All of the female players joined in the winter of 2020 as the Muralosian Soccer Association consolidated the men's and women's national teams into one.

  • #18 - Tanya Lubimova - Goalkeeper - starting goalkeeper for the former Muralosian woman's national soccer team, Lubimova's performance has long been regarded as equal to Rodion Markov's. Her role in the 74th Baptism of Fire tournament, in which she often substituted for Markov, proved that further, and now she often starts matches.
  • #17 - Ji-yong Park - Goalkeeper - starting goalkeeper for FC Havenurbo, a top-tier team in the men's Muralosian Premier League, usually second to CSKA Urbego. The 24 year-old Park uses "he" and "they" pronouns interchangeably, and they are one of Muralos' most notable non-binary athletes. Park is a capable goalkeeper who has plenty of athleticism and skill, without being as flashy as Markov or Lubimova.
  • #16 - Feodor Tanaka - Goalkeeper - starting goalkeeper for Gastello Giants FC.
  • #28 - Rebeka Mori - Left back - played for Nord-Urbo High School and now studies microbiology at the University of Oleo, where she plays for their University League team and works in the biology department's Permafrost Research Center.
  • #27 - Elena Kuznetsova - Center back - a senior at Nord-Urbo High School and a defender on the girls' soccer team there. She is also a member of the Muralosian U-21 national soccer team and a prospective University League athlete. At 18 years old, Kuznetsova is the second-youngest player on the Muralosian national team.
  • #26 - Smedun - Center back - Smedun is a defender for CSKA Urbego, the reigning men's Muralosian Premier League champions. He is, therefore, teammates with Muralosian national team members Adamo Brava, Johano Abramovich, Ryo Takeda, and Rodion Markov. Smedun is often referred to in Muralosian media as "the most attacking defender"; in the most recent Muralosian Premier League season, he scored 8 goals in 32 appearances for the team. Smedun is of Nivkh descent, and following Nivkh custom, he does not have a surname.
  • #29 - Aminda Mori - Right back - Rebeka's fraternal twin sister, she plays for the University League team at the University of Havenurbo, where she studies digital art and design. The women's teams of U. Havenurbo and U. Oleo have a long-lasting rivalry, and recently faced each other in the June 2020 women's soccer University League final. (U. Oleo won 1 - 0.)
  • #30 - Daniel "Lerta" Donaldson - Left midfield - played for Zamenhof High School and made major contributions to their semifinal and runner-up finishes in 2018 and 2019, respectively. In 2019, he enrolled at the Havenurbo Institute of Technology, where he studies mathematics and plays for the soccer team – reigning University League men's soccer champions. In the summer of 2020, he was invited to practice with the former Muralosian men's national team, becoming the second African-Muralosian player in the team's history and the youngest player with the squad.
  • #32 - Yonghua Liang - Center midfield - a starting midfielder for the Nogliki Wolves and a former winger for the Muralosian women's national soccer team. Liang grew up learning the clarinet and was adamant about learning a sport that didn't require much arm movement, for fear that she injure an arm and be unable to play clarinet. (This is why she started soccer.) She reached the University League final with the University of Oleo's women's soccer team, and was also in the concert band that performed Muralos' anthem at the match.
  • #21 - Georgo Zhong - Center midfield - a current teammate of Lerta Donaldson at Havenurbo Tech and an economics major there. While a student at Nord-Urbo High School, he scored a hat-trick against Urbego High School, securing Nord-Urbo's first FIS qualification in 10 years.
  • #23 - Galina Shchedrina - Right midfield - a recent graduate of Urbego National University like starting midfielder Vilhelmo Lumin, Shchedrina made a splash with her debut in the 74th Baptism of Fire. She is known to play well in high-pressure situations, making accurate passes even when surrounded by opposing midfielders and defenders. Currently playing for the Valnohar Rovers of the Tikariot Premier League, Shchedrina is the only member of the Muralosian national team playing overseas.
  • #20 - Valora Lin - Striker - a starter for the former Muralosian woman's national soccer team, Lin's presence on the new co-ed team is a boon for Muralos' efforts in international competition. She is sure to hold her own against starting strikers Adamo Brava and Rui, and following the 90th World Cup Qualifiers, she often starts as a third striker on the field.
  • #22 - Daniil Lee - Striker - formerly a defender and sometime striker for Nord-Urbo High School, Lee transferred to Urbego High School this year due to its more forgiving academic calendar. Now-national team coach Pavel Li noticed the 16 year-old at a U-20 national team tryout; after the Hawks' exit from the Baptism of Fire, Lee was granted a spot on the reserves as a striker. Lee scored his first goal for the Hawks in April 2021, during Muralos' group stage match against Grey County in the 12th Independent Associations Championship.

The Yellow Wave Crashes to Saterun

HUElavia returns to the IAC hungry for a deep run taking on familiar faces in a always stacked edition.

HUElavia's joint-favorite sporting tournament is back: The 24th Independent Associations Championship. Coming off a tough 2-0 Quarter-Finals defeat to Crpostran left a bitter taste for the team who wanted more out of the tournament. Now, coming in Ranked No. 6 in the Indies Ranking, HUElavia once again comes in with a serious opportunity to win it all once more. Coming off a Group Stage sweep before a Round-of-32 anti-climatic exit at World Cup 99 has made this team desire more and look to let out frustrations in the IAC.

HUElavia was placed into Group H with the likes of famous rivals Recuecn, Grand Exultia, Riandera and The Osnari Federation. A solid and decent group that gives the expectation of HUElavia needing to advance to the knockouts at the bare minimum. Coach Casillas heads the team again, quoted saying "We're pleased with the draw and we look forward to the matches, especially against our rivals Recuecn, which is always fun to play against. Grand Exultia can't be scoffed at and we gotta keep an eye out on Riandera and The Osnari Federation. We have faith and confidence we can advance to the knockouts with this group." HUElavia is expected to play their games at Continental Field (32,000) and Racetrack Road (45,000), decent sized stadiums that thousands of HUElavians would look forward to travel to and enjoy filling up the endzone to cheer on Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos.

Looking at the roster, it is the traditional mix of veterans and youngsters appearing for the team. Serra's performances in the WC 99 qualifiers earns her the starting LW role in the starting XI. And a surprise return of Uchee, the Cup of Harmony 85 hero returns after a comeback season and seems poised to be a super sub. From the looks of it, this will be Kim and Uchee's last tournament with the National Team. When talking about the team, Coach Casillas had this to say: "Once more, we're relying on the mix of experience and youth and this has served to strike a good balance in the team. The coaching staff and I feel these are the best 27 players in the country that can play well and we'redetermined to play somegood football. We'vehad promising runs just end prematurely recently and we owe the country a good tournament. What better way than the IAC? I trust these players will perform well and make it another memorable edition of the tournament for us. But, we're still counting on our fans to make it loud and motivate our players to perform well."

Fans are flocking to Saterun, coming in droves with the iconic yellow jersey, in what the Media has dubbed "The Yellow Wave." Watch parties are being set up in public places once more in HUElavia, while stores are seeing merchandise of the National Team selling out quick. Even the IAC 24 Sticker Album is selling like crazy with people trading left and right to complete the album. It's the start of another IAC and it's time for us to bring on the heat to the competition.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

Team Management
Manager: Peter Strömberg - 67
Assistant Manager: Mikael Llyr-Éber - 39
Offensive Coach: Charlotte Erlandsan - 48
Defensive & Goalkeeper Coach: Paul Ravn - 53

Starters:
GK: #1 Gunnvaldr "Gunny" Kristoffersan - 34 - Rega Lysborg
Gunny Kristoffersan is a veteran goalkeeper for De Rega Röda, having been the team's starter for over a decade. Gunny is a fan-favorite, and has earned the nickname "The Flying Viking" due to his acrobatic saves and long blond hair. With his years of experience, he is unlikely to make naive mistakes, making him a hard goalkeeper to beat. Kristoffersan is a smart playmaker, often directing defensive players on how to position themselves. He also has a close relationship with team manager Peter Strömberg, due to making his senior debut in the final years of Strömberg's legendary tenure as Rega Lysborg's manager.

LB: #17 Johan Lind - 25 - Torkola Village FK
Lind is the younger brother of hockey star Rune Lind, and has had trouble stepping out of his brother's shadow. However, he has proven himself to be a capable defender, being a key part of Torkola Village's meteoric rise from near relegation to league contenders over the past few years. Lind is known for his athleticism, size, and kind nature, often being described as a "gentle giant".

CB: #3 Kennet Roenfeldt - 26 - Vennesberg United
Roenfeldt starting his journey as a kid at Vennesberg United’s academy, which is known to produce excellent defensive talent. Now Roenfeldt is one of Solgavden's best defenders, winning the award for best Kongensliga defensive player last season. He is known for his speed, and his explosive ability to clear the ball and make plays.

CB: #5 António Ramirez - 23 - Kosmopolitisk Lunaris
Ramirez is a third generation immigrant whose family settled in the Lunaris district of Orliss, one of the most diverse places in Solgavden. As such, he naturally idolized Kosmo Lunaris, a team founded by immigrants, and excelled at their academy. Now Ramirez is a consistent performer at the senior level, and is looking to make his mark at the international level. Ramirez is a physical defender, often choosing to make somewhat risky tackles in order to win the ball.

RB: #28 Rikard Björkstrand - 30 - Walsbruck FK
Björkstrand is a veteran presence that is definitely needed for De Rega Röda's backline. He has performed consistently in the Kongensliga for years, winning the league title and King Halfdan IV Cup multiple times for clubs such as Rega Lysborg and De Vursen FK.

CDM: #12 Sven Naess - 26 - De Vursen FK
Naess is a very technical midfielder, with his passing being his strong suit. As such, Strömberg slotted him in the Central Defensive Midfielder role to help better connect the defense and midfield. While he isn’t the most glamorous player, Naess is known as a workhorse, contributing heavily to De Vursen’s league and cup championships during the previous season.

LM: #7 Rohit Mishra - 25 - Rega Lysborg
Known for his speed and dribbling ability, Mishra is a difficult player to tackle, often leaving defenders in the dust. A second generation immigrant himself, Mishra pushes himself daily to make his family back home and the nation he represents proud. Mishra has been a star for the national team during the recent World Cup cycle, proving himself to be a consistent goalscorer. If he continues this pace, Mishra could easily be one of the team's top offensive threats.

RM: #15 Aki Hagen - 27 - Limmiera FC
Hagen is a fan favorite in Limmiera due to his level-headed style of play, rarely letting his nerves get to him. This made him especially effective at set-pieces, bringing his team victory when the lights shine brightest. Hagen is also a favorite of Chancellor Nicklas Sondergaard, who occasionally wears his jersey at parliament after a big victory.

CAM: #8 Soren Danielsan - 29 - Walsbruck FK
Danielsan is a very accurate passer, with the skill to give a striker a perfectly placed ball on a cross. As such, Danielsan has been the Kongensliga leader in assists for the past two seasons, and is set to repeat again. Danielsan is also the first openly gay player in the Kongensliga, and was immediately celebrated by the nation. This, mixed with his kind and modest nature, has made him one of the most popular players in the country. He is also a loyal vice-captain and team player, often donning an armband himself when Halvorsan isn't playing, or during pride-themed games.

LS: #23 Hannes Ossler - 24 - Rega Lysborg
Hannes Ossler is one of the most prominent strikers in the Kongensliga, leading Rega Lysborg in goals during the last season. Ossler rose through the youth system at the historic club, and has already established himself as a fan favorite. While he lost out on the starting job to Tennefjord during the World Cup, Ossler was the first choice off the bench for Strömberg, due to his experience over the younger strikers on the team.

RS: #9 Sigmund "Sig" Halvorsan [C] - 36 - De Vursen FK
The face of Solgavish sports for about two decades, Halvorsan is arguably the greatest footballer in Solgavish history, although some still make the case that Harald Kistner is the best. Halvorsan has won nearly everything on the domestic side of the sport, including recently winning the Kongensliga title and KH4 Cup with De Vursen. Now he strives to succeed internationally, and to bring success to Solgavden. Standing at an imposing 6' 4", Halvorsan is a physical player with a powerful shot that is difficult to stop. Although he had a falling out with manager Peter Strömberg during his early days at Rega Lysborg, the two still work well together, with Strömberg playing to Halvorsan's strengths, and Halvorsan being the manager's voice to the team. Despite his age, Halvorsan is still an effective player, leading the team in goals during the previous World Cup.

Tenuous Connections
St. Bernadine Grand Bullion Station & Rollo Heron

Hardly-Knut Crushes Hard

«Knut, look there - » said Karl-Johan, «is that who I think it is? Off the television?»

Gnejsian dog-walker Karl-Johan Vaasa (63) and his friend Knut Svensson (65), were waiting on platform 23 at Grand Bullion Station in central St. Bernadine for the 09.57 Shilling Mountain Special - the scenic route, as much as there was one on the Isle of Taxhavn, to all points north and in particular, to Maartenstadt International Airport. They weren’t on their way back home to Gnejs (one wonders if they ever plan to go back, in all honesty) but had organised a day trip to the airport to indulge their third favourite hobby - plane-spotting. Their first favourite hobby of course was football tourism, travelling all about watching the wierd and wonderful of multiversal soccer. Their second hobby was dog-walking. To tell the truth this was more Karl-Johan’s hobby, but Knut usually liked to tag along… for the exercise, you see?

«Mrrrrrrr, rolff!» - that was Hardly-Knut, the dog. A Rushmori rock terrier. He wasn’t especially interested in plane spotting but he liked a good walk and seemed to know a celebrity when he spotted one. Like Knut, he was also tagging along for the exercise.

«You’re right, K-J,» exclaimed Knut, in muffled excitement, «it’s that quiz champion, the train driver, I forget his name. And she’s the quiz master. What was it called now? Ten New Collections or something?»

«You have it, Knut! Ten News Corrections! I was only watching it this morning at the hotel. He always wins - I don’t think he’s ever lost.»

«Mrrrrrrr, rolff-rolff!»

«What’s that, Hardly-Knut? Tammy? Yes - that’s it! You’re right! Hardly, you never forget a name do you boy?» said Karl-Johan, patting the little terrier on the head. Hardly-Knut had correctly identified Tammy Snopes, the fact-checker for everyone’s favourite quiz show on Taxhavn TV, Tenuous Connections. I mean she’s pretty memorable, all in all. She’s got her facts down. And if you like the brainy type with the allure of silk shirts and massive glasses, you’d barely be able to forget her. Tammy Snopes! Like most Taxhavnites, I pretty much watch the show for Tammy’s impressive memory. And glossy blouses.

Though a little nervous, the two tourists shuffled up the platform led by a dead-keen Rushmori rock terrier who was eager to make a celebrity acquaintance or two. They agreed they would ask for autographs, and try to remember the name of the champion of Tenuous Connections who was travelling with Tammy. The pair must be on their way to a studio shoot or something.

For those of you who are not familiar, Tenuous Connections is a hugely popular gameshow in Taxhavn, in which a panel of contestants pit their wits against one another to make tangential links between one fact and another. The more tenuous the connection, providing it checks out, the more points you score. One ‘Tenuous Blackbelt Master’ is now the island’s most famous train driver Etienne Kobblers, who has the most astonishing and record-breaking undefeated streak in the show’s various seasons and spin-off championships. Each proposed connection in the quiz comes with a verification check by the aforementioned super glamorous show judge Tammy, who is insanely posh and insanely intelligent. And insanely gorgeous. With insanely suggestive outfits. While Etienne is hardly ever wrong, sometimes Tammy does get the better of him on some subjective interpretation or other. It’s gripping stuff - millions tune in every week and the ratings are almost always within a couple percentage points of 100.

Tammy Snopes and Etienne Kobblers were graciously approachable for autographs, exchanging a little conversation with the delighted Gnejsian tourists in the process, and Tammy was much taken with little Hardly-Knut. The rock terrier was putting on his best dog show posture just for her and wagging his tail charmingly (I mean, we all do it, don’t we? For the Tammys of this world?). Karl-Johan and Knut were praising the show, and recounting the times they had tuned in from their hotel rooms whilst touring the country watching football matches.

«Grand Bullion Station Hotel, just at the end of the platforms here, is where sports journalist Kit Samrodd first met the Schottia footballing legend Evelyn Conjure when he was writing the story about the Bonesea-Schottia rivalry back in the day,» announced Karl-Johan, suddenly, «and the new football franchise for the SteuerLig, Boldsea FC, is majority owned by Bonesea investors, who are recruiting players from all over the multiverse with Bonesea connections. One is midfielder Colan Avocet, who just signed from Athletic Spitney in Bonesea. An avocet is a distinctly patterned black and white wading bird. Another sort of wading bird is a heron, and there is a player on the Taxhavn national team heading off to Saterun called Rollo Heron - he’s pretty good, one of the best in the team.»

I can’t tell you where all that came from. I don’t think Knut knew, I’m not even sure if Karl-Johan knew why he said it, except to mimic the traditional style and cadence of Tenuous Connections panelists. Even Hardly-Knut was surprised.

«Sorry,» added Karl-Johan, sheepishly.

‘Nono!,’ said Tammy Snopes, gracious and amused and oh so demure (I’m really crushing hard here) ‘I can see you are a fan of the show! Would you care to join us on the train? We’re going to the airport - we can have a little contest!’

«Rolffrolffrolff!» said Hardly-Knut. He was crushing hard too. And who could blame him?

Well the Zeiten they are amverändern and while it might seem albern to verantworten this Wandel in Zeitgeist on a national football team starting to mitspielen internationally that was still what many people around the foot of the mountains were doing insofar as they were gegen the sort of Entwicklungen they pointed to as verderbend the very fabric of the Gemeinschaft and if they weren’t fundamentally wutschnaubend over these gesellschaftlichen changes they were very much Teilhaber of them or at the very least genießend them which was arguably the same thing or at least equally schlimm if you looked at it from the perspective of the Gegnerschaft of which there were many and of course the most ironisch thing of the entire Komplexität was that these new gesellschaftliche Strömungen really had little to do with football or the national team and you’d probably herumquälen greatly to find anything more uncool than supporting the Horkenheimers among those schwingenden Raggamuffins dancing way too Anzüglicher down by Gneisbänderung Platz in the süden parts of town that were in the process of abwickelnd the very fabric of Seeburgundian society again according to those who missbilligten that sort of thing.

It was the Knutscherei with fremde Elemente that was the Schwierigkeit with the national football team bestehend on going ins Ausland and wettstreiten in these lächerlichen Wettbewerben you see because of course these sorts of Einflüsse must come from außerhalb der Täler at the foot of the großen Berge since there was no way such Schmutz could entstehen organisch in a properly konservatives Kameradschaftswesen such as the Gemeinschaft or at least that was what most of the Nörgler liked to glauben whereas if you had gone to the Institut für Sozialforschung down in the Sankt-Paulina-Viertel they would be begeistert to tell you that it was only in precisely such a Umfeld and gesellschaftlichem context that these umstürzlerischen and subversive Tendenzen could gedeihen and it had nothing to do with the Welt-Jenseits-der-Berge but rather all to do with the Welt-am-Bergen as the late professor Diggerdeigerschtroumph would have formuliert it over some Cremeschnitte at the old Vergoldete Mackrell Bäckerei on the corner of Grimmaische Straße and Gugelhupf Allee.

The Veränderungen could be erspürt on almost every Arena of society even though they were natürlich more ausgeprägt some places as opposed to others, and while it was no doubt the overt Geschlechtisierungsschub in youth fashion that had good and proper people walking down Mohnkloß Allee via Morgenmuffel Platz or around Philharmonisches Plaz most wütend twirling their Schnurrbärte in erregter Zorn, it was essentially just a symptom of a deeper Verderbnis in the kulturellen Ausdrucksformen in the sphere of public Gemeinschaft and Unterhaltung, because even though you had always had your Abweichler here and there, they had always had the Anstand to keep their activities and Neigungen verborgen, just below the surface of things — like that uralt Sexsekte with the bearded Scheinsprophet down by Knackwurst Platz or the underground jazz clubs in the Puddingkuchen-Quadrat and in the Keller below Alles Verloren Bierpalast.

Nicht so anymore. It was alles out there now.

Hello from the Elder Lands!

The Elder Lands are not a place you will find on any map of Sonnel, nor will you find them listed among destinations at hubs of transportation. Instead, should you wish to reach these lands, turn away from the highways and airports of the mundane world. Wander into the desolate places of the world, deserts, seas, forests. Perhaps you may find nothing but the aching solitude of nature. Or perhaps, you will wander further than you though, and find yourself in a land of broad fields and dark woods. A land of mountains that walk, and trees that speak. Where the fair folk in all their kinds hold sway, and where many a mortal has found their wildest dreams or their worst nightmares. It is a land some never return from, or if they do, they are forever changed and cannot fully express what they have seen to those they once loved, if indeed they can remember their time in the Elder Lands at all. Time in the Elder Lands passes strangely, and at whatever rate it takes a fancy to. Accordingly, one might spend a day in the Elder Lands and return to find years had passed at home, or live a lifetime among the Fey and return mere hours after departing.

The Elder Lands are a strange world, not part of, but neither wholly separate from the mortal realms of Sonnel. Their shape and bounds are inconsistent, as the land is constantly influenced by those who inhabit it. The Elder Lands are the home of the Fey, and those who know it best realize that the land and its people are in fact one and the same, different embodiments of the same set of collective wills. As for the Fey themselves, they are likewise a strange people, lovers of rule and ritual. They are effectively immortal, untouched by age or disease. They can be killed, though it is certainly not easy, and many do eventually tire of life and allow themselves to return to the magical energy which sustains the Elder Lands. There are many legends concerning their nature. It is often said, for instance, that Fey cannot lie, though they will readily mislead, and that any pact entered into between Fey and Mortal is unbreakable. It is also said that any who gains the knowledge of a particular fey’s true name may command them in anything, and for this reason such names are closely guarded. There are five main groups of Fey in the Elder Lands: Eladrin, Gnomes, Pixies, Trolls, and Archfey, the five most powerful of which are known as The Eldest. Gnomes are generally between 2 and 4 feet high, and tend to be curious and adventurous. Pixies are generally under a foot tall with wings of some description, and tend to be capricious and ritualistic. Trolls vary widely in form, but often resemble the natural features of their home, and tend to be quiet and protective. Eladrin are generally humanoid or elf-like, and very considerably in temperament, though many do tend to be a bit arrogant. Archfey very wildly in appearance, though most are at least vaguely humanoid, and have no real trends in personality, except perhaps a tendency to assume respect for their considerable magical and physical prowess.

After winning just a single match in their IAC debut three cycles ago, the team of fey did quite a bit better last time out, making the second round before losing to eventual champions, Delte. Despite some difficulties adhering to the strict policies against revealing the existence of magic and alternate planes of existence to the citizens of the host country, Tanirinthia, the team did learn some valuable lessons about the mortal realms, and for the first time had something that might be considered tactics. After playing their second international tournament, they've finally realized that it helps to have a dedicated manager, rather than an unruly mob of players all doing what seems best to them. Despite their improvement in recent tournaments and rise in rank all the way up to pot 2, there is a pall of grief and uncertainty over the team this time around. Two years ago, their participation in IAC 24 culminated in the ritual sacrifice of the Eldest known as the Crowned Bull, his competition and death somehow serving to stave off a blight of silence that was spreading over the Elder Lands. The blight has retreated and the Lands are safe for now, but his absence is keenly felt among all who followed him, and across the lands as a whole. Further, no one is quite sure what the consequences of the death of an Eldest might be.

I can kind of understand if it's disruptive to your team's realism and continuity to RP a team of immortal fey creatures as their opponent, but it's certainly not the strangest thing we've ever had in NSS. Besides, the Elderlanders have quite sportingly pledged not to use any supernatural powers, enact any binding contracts, or use any curses, enchantments, or other spellcraft against their opponents, so I encourage you to play along. Be a lot cooler if you did.
Style Modifier: +3

Managers:
Beefwit - Manager - 197 - Gnome - Beefwit has a particular fondness for loud noises which has him sometimes aiming for the frame of the goal rather than the net. This also extends to his voice, which is a baritone bellow that belies his 2'6" frame. Thus, the team have no trouble hearing his bellowed instructions, though getting them to actually listen and implement them is a challenge, particularly in the case of some of the older, more willful team members.

Snowbrowth - Assistant Manager - 437 - Gnome - Snowbrowth is the actual brains of this managerial operation. Every instruction Beefwit shouts out that actually makes sense originates with her. She's working on speaking up for herself more these days, but it's a slow process, and so she usually whispers her suggestions to Beefwit rather than yell them out herself. Ideas frequently get a bit garbled through this process, which is a shame because she really does have a pretty good sense for the game, although she's yet to convince the team that her favored formation, the W-M, isn't meant to be pronounced as a word.

First Team:

Bellwether - Goalkeeper - 60 - Gnome - Barely more than a child by Fey standards, but tallish as gnomes reckon at 3'10". You may think it a problem that he is thus slightly less than half the height of a regulation football goal, but he is known among the Fey as a prodigious leaper, able to hop from the ground to the top of a tall pine tree and back in the blink of an eye. Also one of the few players with the discipline and attention span to actually stay in the net rather than chase the play up and down the field.

Numbles - Fullback - 274 - Gnome - Numbles likes to kick the ball hard. His friends are working on getting him to focus more on caring about the direction, but it's a work in progress. Still, he did one score directly from a goal kick in training, so that's something.

Tarvos - Fullback - ??? - Archfey - Tarvos is one of the archfey who followed the wandering court of the Eldest known as the Crowned Bull. He is a wrestler and racer of many victories, and was persuaded years ago by Numbles and Beefwit to give football a try. He is, however, quite proud and stubborn, resistant to orders or suggestions, and stiff-necked when it comes to conforming to mortal mores. Of late, he has been much more subdued and moody, grief stricken after the death of his patron and lover.

Yoicks - Fullback - 446 - Gnome - Yoicks insists that she's going to become the sixth Eldest someday. No one on the team is quite sure how the Eldest got to be the Eldest in the first place, so they generally try to be encouraging of her. In the meantime, Yoicks thinks winning a football championship might be a decent accolade on her path, so she's one of the most motivated and hardworking on the team.

Nuada - Halfback - ??? - Archfey - Bodua's sister. Long-limbed and wiry, covered in tattoos attesting to her battles through the ages. Nuada and Bodua are a pair of warriors, wandering the Elder Lands together since time immemorial.

Bodua - Halfback - ??? - Archfey - Nuada's sister. Her sister's opposite in many ways. They say thick thighs save lives but Bodua's have probably ended a fair number. No, not like that, you perverts.

Comgal - Center Forward - 306 - Eladrin - Comgal is as dedicated to form and fitness of body as several of the first teamers, but less interested in competition and combat as in apperance. He is an inveterate show-off and extremely vain. Quite hostile to those who might rival his own beauty, contrary to expectation, he shows little interest in the sorts of pleasurable indulgences that mortals might expect from one of his appearance and bearing.

Jareth - Inside Forward - 646 - Eladrin - Jareth is an explorer and wanderer throughout the Elder Lands. He delights in meeting new people, and has an uncanny knack for happening across mortal visitors. The chance to venture beyond the Elder Lands and see the mortal world is an exciting one for him.

Hallar - Inside Forward - 1149 - Eladrin - Hallar’s love is given to archery, darts, and all contests of accuracy. Naturally, when they heard of football, the challenge of unfailingly hitting the net appealed to them. Accordingly, they can be relied upon to shoot for placement rather than power nearly every time.

Wodger - Winger - 258 - Gnome - Wodger's favorite thing to do is to dance, and they are good friends with a number of eladrin and pixies who share that interest. They insist that football is just a type of dance, and are continually frustrated with their teammates for being ungraceful, off-rhythm, and just generally not dance-y enough. Very literally an artistic dribbler.

Swoopstake - Winger - 269 - Gnome - Swoopstake is the fastest gnome. Not the fastest gnome on the team, the fastest gnome, period. Some have said that Swoopstake is so fast that she can run across the surface of a pond, but no one's seen her do it outside of winter. Still, she made it across that ice pretty darn quickly and only fell once.

Bench:

Senn - Goalkeeper - 485 - Eladrin - A friend of Wodger’s, also a lover of dance. A bit more confident about their role as goalkeeper this time around, and certainly has the natural grace and reflexes to play the position well.

Kickshaw - Defender - 347 - Gnome - Kickshaw eventually showed up in time for the second round of the last tournament, and has been convinced to do his running (which he never stops) in circles so that he doesn't get lost this time.

Adun - Defender - 1429 - Eladrin - Stolid and dependable by nature, Adun is quite old even by the standards of Eladrin, and indeed older than a fair number of Archfey, if rumors are true. Cold and calculating by nature, and not known for being particularly friendly or forgiving either.

Swindle - Attacker - 16 - Pixie - The first pixie to join the team, Swindle is an unusually focused and determined member of her folk. She certainly has to be when she's less than half the size of a football. Uses her batlike wings to great effect for her speed and agility, and is probably the only player at the tournament who can nutmeg a defender by passing between their legs along with the ball. Not much power to speak of for obvious reasons.

Timbrel - Attacker - 5 - Gnome - Timbrell was born the day before IAC 23, and she thinks football is pretty neat. The team has not applied for an exception to allow such a young player to compete, because it honestly did not occur to them that they might need to. Fey are born fully grown after all.

Reçueçn Roster & National Information

Image
National Team Information

If L'Équipe Nationale de Reçueçn de Football is known for anything, it would be its defensive style. Historically this was due to the large influence of Reçueçn FC on the team; the most popular domestic club in Reçueçn plays about as defensive a game as you can imagine. During qualification for the last World Cup, the entire team was replaced after they went on strike, but ultimately the players won so now the old roster is mostly back. There are a few new faces; as a result of the strike and the associated protests, the team is now co-ed and it has its first female players. They debuted in the World Cup but now their presence on the team is beginning to feel like a normal thing.

Image
National Team Logo
The team is back to its classic 4-3-3 formation. The core of the team is its defense, captained by Firaut with Kayserling and Cutrona as his bulwarks. But Lapix and Theriault are insightful playmakers who know how to get the ball ahead to Franky for a surprise counterattack. New players like Breault are finding they fit into the system pretty well; defensive play comes naturally to Reçuecians so new defenders always mesh well.

The Reçueçian National Team's mascot is the unicorn; thus another name for the team is "les licornes". The fantastical creature has been a symbol of Reçueçn for almost two millennia and is also the national animal, appearing as the supporters in the national coat of arms.

The team's kit represents the colors of the flag in a quite literal fashion. The jersey was redesigned a long time ago, replacing the first one les licornes ever wore, dating back to the 59th Baptism of Fire. Fans thought the old outfit was ugly, but the current one is now also becoming out of favor the longer it sticks around and the more tired people grow of it. It was much more professional than the original, but still leaves something to be desired.

Stadium
Reçueçn has only one stadium in which its national team plays, located in the capital city (also named Reçueçn). Never having been given an official title, the national stadium is usually simply referred to as just that: le Stade National. (Reçuecian law requires the nation's journalists to use endonyms even when reporting in English or other non-local languages.) Capacity: 30,000.

Coaching Staff

Hyron LeBouffe

LeBouffe was chosen after a long convoluted hiring process when the FNRF wanted the previous manager out but wasn't ready with a solid replacement for the role. He joined the players in their strike last year but when public opinion turned on the federation, was reinstated afterward. His leadership style is modest and he often seems to be in the background letting the players take center stage, even in strategic decision making. But having taken the players' side during the strike, he now has their unwavering support and approval. The team is constantly standing up for him in the media when journalists questions his tactical insight. That said, it's hard to point to any of the ÉNRF's strategy that is directly influenced by him—he has mostly stayed the course and continued with Reçueçn's traditional, defensive 4-3-3.

All-time record: 199-91-119

Starting XI
1 Gerauld Firaut goalkeeper age 39
The face of Reçuecian soccer. Team captain, and a pillar of support for his teammates.

2 Emanuele Cutrona sweeper age 35
Passionate and young at heart. Cutrona's friendship with Adams often gets them in trouble.

3 Brigitte Breault left back age 24
Solid and self-certain. As one of the first to break the Reçuecian gender barrier, she is always working harder than the men.

4 Lukas Kayserling center back age 35
Calm and controlled. German-speaking and has difficulty communicating with the team.

5 Eric Konig right back age 25
Tall, skinny, and prone to injury due to how often he collides in mid-air after going up to defend a corner kick.

6 Emila Streuli left midfielder age 22
Quick and hard to pin down. Cooperates well with the center midfielders.

7 Laurent Lapix defensive midfielder age 29
Brings spice and life to the midfield. Reçueçn's other world class player.

8 Théophile Thériault right midfielder age 23
The spearhead of the next generation of Reçuecian soccer. Everybody loves a young star.

9 Dirk Trommler left wing age 26
A high defense's worst nightmare. Has a knack for finding a way through with the ball, whether forward balls or to shoot himself.

10 Franky Adams striker age 34
Reçueçn's most famous player other than Firaut. Good enough to be the center of attention (which he loves).

11 Helibert Wolf right wing age 35
Quick-thinking and decisive. His ability to make crucial split-second decisions has earned him many assists.
Reserves
12 Moesha Ziswiler goalkeeper age 21
Fast and physical. Happy to rush forward to block off a shot.

13 Blaise Gauthier sweeper age 22
Delicate and surgical. Prefers a well-executed tackle to a heavy block.

14 Nathalie Desjardins left back age 23
Has endurance for days. Runs marathons in her spare time.

15 Quirino Lucian center back age 36
Large and physical. Lucian's looming presence isn't an empty threat, he'll mess you up given the chance.

16 Alex Bruguière right back age 34
A "diamond in the rough" according to the old ÉNRF manager. The diamond being his play-stopping ability and the rough being his club, Baden Heidelberg.

17 Robert Chéreau left midfielder age 35
Knows how to use the space in the midfield. Still somehow tends to drift toward the center.

18 Clélia Jaccoud center midfielder age 25
A good multi-tasker. Is always paying attention to everything to never be caught out of position.

19 Quentin Gouin right midfielder age 33
Getting older. Without the stamina to support his talent, his plays are flashy but brief.

20 Héloïse Asselineau left wing age 21
Unconvincing on the attack. Asselineau used to play left back for her club and had to learn to play forward, but is often still too defensive.

21 Rébecca Firaut center forward age 17
Has inherited her father's star power. After leading nation-wide protests, Rébecca earned herself a leader's respect while still a young teenager.

22 Dégaré Béranger right wing age 28
Usually the one to yell at the ref or draw a yellow card. His teammates have to keep him under control.

23 Max Winkel goalkeeper age 29
The team's newest goalie. Maybe given his age he will outlast Firaut and someday see time on the pitch.

Reçuecian History and Culture

The nation of Reçueçn was created in the first half of the XIVth century, when Carl Blancpic, Duke of the Duchy of Reçueçn, launched a breakneck military campaign invading and annexing many of his neighbors to the east. Before this time, Reçueçn had been only a city, built on the heights overlooking the junction of the Rhône and Saône rivers. These heights had been settled by Carl Blancpic's distant ancestor, Ifheda Rcuecn, near the end of the IInd century a.d., and had born his name ever since. The area at that time belonged to the Roman Empire, who had established their regional administrative center, Lugdunum, on the other side of the river.

In 197 a.d., a decisive battle was fought near Lugdunum in one of the civil wars for the throne of the empire. The victor, Septimius Severus, razed the city of Lugdunum and destroyed it, stripping from it all imperial privileges in punishment for supporting his rival. This was the end for Lugdunum, but it was the beginning for Reçueçn. Refugees flocked across the river to join the settlement, and the city of Reçueçn grew to become a smallish regional center. Rcuecn's descendants (who changed the spelling to Reçueçn) maintained control over what became the Duchy of Reçueçn for 700 years, until it was inherited by their cousins the Blancpics who reigned for another 300 years.

At the beginning of the XIVth century, power passed into the hands of Carl Blancpic, who was a megalomaniac and partially insane . Thus he declared his duchy to be a kingdom and singled out weak neighbors who he invaded with audacity. Over an incredibly short period of time beginning in the spring of 1337, he had carved out for himself a sizable dominion.

Carl, who styled himself "Carl III of Reçueçn", was violent, unstable, and petty. He was also wildly unpopular with the populations of the various states he had conquered. Although the central power structure helped the economy of the new Kingdom of Reçueçn to some extent, it did not bring with it all the stability that might have been expected. This was mostly due to the decrees of Carl III, who, among other things, began a campaign to persecute and kill all "heretics" within his new realm. Most historians agree that this was in fact a thinly veiled purge of his political rivals. This and other policies he enacted on his whims finally drove the people into open revolt in the spring of 1352.

Carl managed to hold on to power for a couple years by hiring mercenaries, but in 1354 lost two key battles and was captured by the rebels. By this time, the rebellion was led by feudal lords throughout the country who had sided with the people against their tyrant king. Carl III was executed, and the kingdom dissolved into a mess of tiny, independent feudal holdings.

No sooner had the various states that had been in the Kingdom of Reçueçn won their independence, than infighting broke out among them. The feudal lords squabbled over power and influence, trying vainly to imitate Carl's meteoric rise to power. This new violence, combined with the economic downturn associated with the rebellion and the breakup of the nation, clearly displayed how poorly things were turning out. More sensible minds came to the decision that the solution was to once more unify Reçueçn.

On November 19, 1356, therefore, The Allied States of Reçueçn came into being. The leaders of all the petty states, duchies, bishoprics, free cities, etc., came together and signed what are known as "The Treaties of the Alliance," a document just powerful enough to make Reçueçn a single nation, rather than a group of independent entities. The treaties also established a rough form of democracy, with each state represented (although typically by its aristocracy). Thus Reçueçn lays claim to being one of the oldest democracies in the world.

The treaties defined much of Reçuecian history to come. Provisions were made to establish freedom of religion, in order to avoid another scenario similar to Carl III's persecution of his opponents. The treaties also gave Reçueçn an isolationist bent. The nation had been burned before, and wouldn't soon try to meddle in external affairs, especially when its composite nature made creating a foreign policy so difficult.

Reçueçn, then, has managed to avoid many of the crises of European history. It's darkest moment came when Napoleon invaded, proclaiming himself emperor (although he allowed Reçueçn's government to continue to function under his reign). The allied states have drawn closer together, although cultural differences remain among them; they don't even all speak the same language.

Reçueçian culture has also been shaped by its location, nestled in the center of the Alps. The difficulty of travel among mountain valleys ensured the cultural diversity of the nation and preserved local customs. Although rural communities did center around agriculture—especially dairy production—many Reçuecian were forced by the lack of arable land to find other work. This led to a culture of innovation that continues today: Reçueçn is now known for its luxury products and technological exports. This has additionally led to a focus on science and education. The relatively diverse nature of Reçueçn's culture means that some areas are culturally more time-oriented while others are more task-oriented, but this fusion has given the country a uniqueness, especially in art. Reçueçn, perhaps thanks to its inland, mountainous location, or the fact that it was never a colonial power, has seen little immigration or emigration. Recently, however, the diversity of language spoken in the country has made it attractive to refugees from other areas where those languages are spoken.
