Kelssek advances despite spluttering draw against Kamijiro
Expectations and demands on the Kelssek football team are higher than ever, and any honeymoon effect that Obey Chidiebere enjoyed with the many wins and good vibes through the qualifiers has definitely ended now. That’s been the feeling around the country’s football community after a goalless draw against Kamijiro to round off the group stage saw Kelssek through to the knockout stages, but looking terribly unconvincing.
For his part, the head coach has backed the players to do better. “You can do the right things and not get the result you worked hard for. It’s not automatic that results equal the input. I’ve seen how they responded against HUElavia, they had a bad game and stepped up, in this case, it was an unlucky game and all they need to do is follow through next time”.
Chidiebere and his charges have some grounds to argue that the result belied a good performance. Zoé Goh-Lemaire had a goal on 28 minutes chalked off controversially over a foul in the build-up, only noticed with an intervention by the video assistant referee. Kamijiro’s goalkeeper Asumi Kenichi more than earned a player of the match shout with a pair of reflex saves on 74 minutes to deny first Julius Heer and then Rolando Cutter on the follow-up.
For their part, Kelssek gave their opponents very little, with Kagawa Haruka registering Kamijiro’s only shot on target in the 53rd minute, a tame effort from distance that barely troubled Megan Woodwell in the Kelssek goal.
Pundits and fans have been less positive, however, suggesting a draw would always be considered a poor result in the circumstances, and noting that Kelssek are only going to be facing higher-ranked, more experienced teams from here on out.
“The important thing is getting through, but it isn’t looking like a team capable of going much further,” was the verdict from NSN commentator and former Kelssek international goalkeeper Cassie Mrythe. “On paper this team has the skill and talent level, but they’re not coping mentally and aren’t cohesive on the pitch, and that’s showing once the competition reaches the finals tournament.”
Perhaps less constrained by sympathy for former Kelssek teammates, Mrythe’s fellow pundit Alger Hertzing was scathing. “Lots of problems going forward. It looks like they’re out of ideas already.”

Second cycle in a row we’re messing about, we risk another early exit, with two different coaches. It starts in the locker room, accountability! These players have to come together and get this sorted out!

There's many factors that could lead to a football team performing below expectations. You could try overlaps between the full-backs and wingers to help generate more chances on the attack. Positive reinforcement when the team does well at smaller tasks can also increase morale. You could also try upgrading their central processing units to help them train more effectively.

Yes, it’s true that aggressive play can really improve your defending. To do this, you can launch yourself hard with both feet. Target the ankle, which is a weak point of your opponent’s leg, and can really inflict pain and hopefully end his or her career. Solidity in your team's formation and crushing the opponent’s metatarsal during matches is key to success.
