Postby Pasarga » Tue Jul 30, 2024 6:40 am

Welcome to Rushmore and the nations of Eastfield Lodge and Pasarga, as they welcome you to World Cup 97 and a new era arising for both as well as the World Cup as a whole.

This is the roster thread for this edition of the tournament. Please present us and your fellow competitors with the names and supporting information of those players who will be representing your nation on the multiversal stage.

Below is a list of confirmed entrants to the tournament, who may begin writing roleplays and posting rosters in the roster thread. Please do not post reserve pots in this thread.

A final note, we will be issuing a roster penalty that will scale up per scorination window up to 50% of your KPB ranks. With this in mind, we ask that you please get your rosters in before matchday one.

A roster is, at minimum, a list of names of the athletes that will be entering the tournament. As this is an association football (soccer) tournament, that’s 11 players. Many players like to go above and beyond that minimum, however, and include additional information such as:
 • A team nickname
 • Additional players (11 players, plus reserves; squads are normally 23-26 players in size, but during World Cup qualifying bigger pools of players may be used)
 • A team manager and technical staff
 • Where your team will play its home matches (in this tournament, half of your matches in qualifying will be at home. This can be in one field or in many places around your country!)
 • Your RP permissions and style modifier
 • A team logo
 • A team kit
 • Details about your nation for visiting fans and players
 • Other information you would like your opponent to know about
Examples of rosters include those posted for the last edition of the World Cup. As you can see, rosters come in all shapes and sizes - from a list of names to full player bios. Be as in depth as you like, but the most important thing is readability!

As a part of your roster post, you can include a style modifier. This is a number, which for the purposes of this tournament can be between -5 and +5, which describes how defensive or offensive your team's style of play is. -5 describes a maximally defensive team, and +5 describes a maximally attacking team.

Finally, in your roster post, it is highly recommended you include your RP permissions. These detail what you can and can't do regarding players on other nation's teams. The permission box, an example included below, shows a format with which to display these permissions, and it is important to read the permissions of other players before including them in your own roleplays -- those roleplays may be ignored if permissions are broken! Furthermore, the permissions box also discusses 'godmodding', which is to control another person's roleplaying beyond the usual RP permissions. Examples of godmodding include unlikely events, such as a goal being scored by bouncing off of a passing seagull, or a player being injured by plane debris falling from the sky. If in doubt, check those permissions!

Here is an example of a roleplay permission box (with no permissions yet set):

Code: Select all
[box]My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
I would prefer you choose these scorers:
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
Generate stadium happenings: Yes/No[/box]

Should you still have any questions feel free to telegram Pasarga or Eastfield Lodge or post in the discussion thread. We look forward to your participation!

Football fans in Brusseldorf have a lot to be excited about, as the announcement was made this morning that the national team would be making its return to the foremost tier of world football. Two cycles ago, the Football Federation Brusseldorf (FFB) made the decision to temporarily step down from international qualification to facilitate a major restructuring of the sport's legislative bodies. Now a full cycle down the road, Brusseldorf has a new-look tiered league system, and new incentives for football at the grass-roots level. The FFB has reported the restructuring to be a success, and hopes that a refocused federation will enable the national team to be more efficient with its resources. At a media conference delivered this morning, new manager Hakeem al-Araibi announced the squad he will be taking to the 97th World Cup Qualifiers:

Stadium
The Fennec Stadia is the largest stadium in Australialia, with a monstrous capacity of 93,000 spectators.
As the premier footballing facility in Brusseldorf, Fennec Stadia is the de facto national stadium and serves as a frequent venue for Brusseldorf's national team. During international tournaments such as this one, the stadium hosts all qualification matches. Throughout the remainder of the calendar year, Casablanca City is lucky enough to call this stadium home, though usually only the lower tier is filled with spectators.

ICHT VDESMÜN EÆGLS
THE EDSMON EAGLES

Edsmontik is home to many things- Modesich, Xetric, and Sports. Lots, and lots of Sports.
Whether it's karting, volleyball, hockey, football, or handball, the Edsmons will play them all day.
Even though Handball was the original number one sport, football has taken over by over nine times during the Baptism of Fire.
And following Edmsontik's win there, it's grown even more.
In Edsmontik, you can visit the beautiful landscapes, the insanely huge Edsmon transit network, (Here's Touve for example) and the beautiful Edsmon Stadiums.
In this World Cup qualifying, Edsmontik's largest home field will be used.

Important Team Players

Forward
Maartin STUERO
The top Edsmon goalscorer in the 84th Baptism of Fire.
Even as a goalscorer, Stuero creates multiple chances for his team.
His crossing ability is excellent, although not the best.
der-Ghavyr's training sessions by pushing him as a right winger has helped him improve a lot.
He's great at acrobatic kicks, as well as headers.

Midfield
Maktholm GHREKSBVY
Ghreksbvy was never a goalscorer, and yet, he still manages to score goals.
Not only did he help Edsmontik win the 84th Baptism of Fire, but during their time, he handed lots of assists.
His crossing as well as passing ability is superior to Stuero's, but that's why he passes and Stuero scores.
The chemistry that he has with the team is "above average" according to his teammates.

Defense
Vlakken JERVANOIS
From bench to starter star, Jervanois had earned the respect of not only his team, but the entire country as well.
What he doesn't have in physicality, he has in speed and passing.
He's quick enough to rush from attack to defense before a breakaway, which is why many fans enjoy watching him play.
Not only this, with his recent passing demonstration, he now takes the corner kicks and freekicks when Aespana, Bervaign, or Ghreksbvy aren't there.

Kronbia men's national football team

Overview

Football does not have a large fan base and comes in fourth place after basketball, baseball and boxing. Football began to appear on the island at the end of the eighties and continued as a game played in the streets and squares until 1998, when the first football league was established it consists of 5 teams. The number of teams has reached 8 currently. The sport does not find sufficient financial support due to the lack of audience attendance, the lack of sponsors, and the lack of any channels’ interest in broadcasting the matches.

On a personal level, he owns a Cars workshop in the Montana Verde, and there are some rumors that say that in his youth he was part of the "Don Jose" Cartel in the Montana Verde, but he always denies this.

They will play in both Summit Stadium (Mount Heavens, 54,219), and Restresian National Stadium (Maresda, 102,917)[

Tactics:
The Restresians play insanely aggressive, and therefore have the maximum amount of volatility heading into this year's Baptism of Fire and World Cup Qualifying. If the cards fall right, they could win it all (which is likely considering how well they did in the toughest group in the Campeonato Esportiva) or lose every game in the group stage.
Headlines:
Will Restresian Success continue, despite the new expectations put onto them as a favorite to win the whole competition? Will Indiana Pablo continue to be the showstopper he was in the Campeonato and the most recent Restresian Premier League season? Will the goalkeeping be there for them whenever the team needs it most? And most importantly: Is Restresas ready for competiton outside of their continent?
Roleplay permissions
My opponent, if they roleplay first, may do the following:

About the Manager

Shane Newman is a Baker Park born, who took the chance to become the first NT boss for Havynwilde with an understanding that he would have time & resources to build from scratch. He was hounded by negative media coverage, the unrealisitc expectations of supporters & the governing body, and no investment to correct the dearth of talent in the domestic league. He was unceremoniously fired while out of the country on holiday. He'll consider his time there a learning experience. Was the chief defensive architect for the BPNT in the first three WC cycles.Aged 49 and married with three children--a boy and two girls--he will look to the domestic league for talent by focusing on technique, pace, and positional flexibility.

Jahangir was born in the city of Shahzalabad, located seventy six kilometres north of Riveria. He started his career for his school team and then got into the famous college team belonging to Mir Azmal College of Physical Sciences (MACPS). The goblin species were divided into three families were Grundjees are one of the major part. The other two families are called Mithys and Auris. The current members of the grundjee family is Colonel Grundjee who is a Colonel in the royal army of Indusse. The gene of colonel Grundjee was created by merging the genes of three colonels of the army with the genes of a eagle and the green algae. The green algae plays a necessary role in getting the green Color of the skin. The other member is Goblin Grundjee who is currently playing for the juniors. His gene was created by merging the genes of David Bekem, a former football and of a wild horse. The green algae is also a necessary part of the composition. The grundjee family has the green composition of skins due to green algae. Whereas, Mithys has a brownish red skin due to the presence of Blue-green Algae with Iron sediments, Auris family has the skin Color of a normal human as there isn't any presence of algae. The skin textures and patterns of the goblins are same as the humans and the color is the only thing that can discriminate it with humans. The scientific community believe that the goblin race will create revolution in the world of science. The creation of Goblin Grundjee was overseen by fellow player Bechun Butea who also played a major role in bringing Grundjee as a experimental player. Well, Grundjee is currently one of the best strikers the nation has seen.

Home Ground

The Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium, is home to the Flocking Blues and is the largest sports stadium in the nation. The Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium can hold 131,561 spectators in normal cases. The most attendance recorded for an event in the stadium was 148,241 spectators. This historical event happened long before the current stadium had been built. The former stadium known as IFA International Stadium had just a capacity of 108,112 and the event was the Sworn-in of Baskar H Kumar as the first president of the Indusse. In other words, the sworn in was also the same as the nation's independence day. The most spectators for a match was recorded as 118,232 spectators for a match between Indusse and Pratapgadh which was once a derby match.
Image

This Stadium was built first by Aditya Varma Kulashekara, the emperor of Indusse at his reign. The stadium was built as part of giving the Indussean Football Association, a home ground. The Stadium at its beginning had a capacity of 62,122 spectators and was later increased to 97,783. The Stadium also in the past hosted the home matches of Royal Hind City FC (Currently, New Hind City FC) and Hind United FC (Currently dissolved). The Hind United FC got dissolved into Royal Hind City FC and the club through enough funding brought some land near the Darbar Halls and built a stadium there which currently serves as their home ground and the nation's secondary home ground. The IFA Stadium was built close to the Hind River and was surrounded by small forests. The place then known to be Kadaathaaaru was chosen for the stadium, the name literally meant to be "Forest River". The stadium continued to host the nation's home matches until the IFA was disbanded after the invasion of the Islamic Conquerors. The Dari Sultanate rulers took over the nation and placed a ban on all sort of native entertainment including music and sports. The stadium was taken under the custody of the Dari Military and was converted into a arena to propagate Dari Propoganda. The Stadium was renamed as Neimat Abdullah Arena and the capacity was increased to 108,112. The Neimat Abdullah Arena also became the public execution grounds of Natives in Indusse. The Dari Supressed Native Freedom Fighters were beheaded, hanged and shot dead at these grounds. After the Independence, the stadium was renamed as IFA Stadium and held the nation's first independence day celebrations. After a few years, it was renamed to Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium and the capacity was increased to 131,561. The Government then also decided to set up a monument for the natives who were killed by the supression. The Divya Azadi Stambh (Divine Freedom Pillar) located in the stadium complex is the so called monument. This Pillar is an important part of the nation's independence day celebrations.

The Langenian National Team for the World Cup

THE LANGENIAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Langenian national football team has the distinction of being the pride and joy of the Republic of Langenia, a country where football is widely regarded as the national sport. Langenia's domestic football league is known for its passionate form of play called the Juego Bello, hardcore fanbases, and intense rivalries among clubs dating back decades. Although there are other popular sports in the country, namely gridíron and basketball, none of them come close to being as rooted into Langenian culture as futbol, as it is called in Langenia, does.

The national team, nicknamed Los Azules for their distinct blue uniforms, was formed with the purpose of playing neighboring nations around the same time football arrived in Langenia when the 19th century gave way to the 20th. In times of national hardship or division a competition in which the national football team participates is one of the few things that can closely bring the population together. Although it has participated in several competitions within its region over the decades of its existence, the Baptism of Fire and World Cup are notable in that they are the first competitions of their types Los Azules play in, large ones of an extra-regional scale.

Currently, in the wake of terror attacks in the major cities of Aragon and San Jose that led to war with neighboring Parador, as well as a divisive presidential election, it is the national hope that once again Los Azules will unify the country behind one banner and give it something to root for.

Notable Players and the Coach

Enrique Vargas - Manager/Head Coach

Enrique Vargas is the current manager of Los Azules, the Langenian national football team. As a player, he was known for being one of the country's most skilled midfielders, leading his club Atletico Terrate to become perennial contenders for the Liga Nacional championship title, as well as strong competitors in regional club competitions. Unfortunately, an injury cut his career short, and he turned to coaching. Initially starting out as an assistant coach with his former team, Atletico Terrate, he eventually accepted a head coaching position with Merida. He led the team to upset wins over Aragona and San Jose, usually the two strongest teams in the Liga Nacional, on the way to a championship title. After his stint at Merida, he was selected as the manager/head coach of the national team, a position he currently holds. Vargas is notable for introducing numerous reforms in his time as the manager for Los Azules, namely an additional focus on improving the capabilities of the defense as well as using the midfield to support the forwards by creating passing lanes to score. Nonetheless, he has maintained the traditional offensive-focused Juego Bello form of Langenian football.

Oscar Galindo

Oscar Galindo is a forward, currently the captain of the Langenian national football team. One of the "The Three G's" that make up part of Los Azules's attacking unit, he is often cited as an example of the attacking-minded form of football practiced by the Langenians. Right-footed and of short physical stature, his style of play is notable for for his agility and explosiveness combined with fast dribbling. Galindo is notable for being prolific in his attempts to score on the goal by penetrating through the opposing defense by dribbling, as well as attempting to create scoring chances as a playmaker for his teammates in a similar fashion. He currently wears the number 9 shirt and plays for the club Aragona.

Raul Guzman

Raul Guzman is a forward, wearing the number 10 shirt for Los Azules. Another of "The Three G's", the right-footed player is known for his flamboyant style of play that involves the use of elasticos, rainbow flicks, and step overs, making him often seen as a symbol of the Juego Bello form of football of the Langenian team. Along with Oscar Galindo, Guzman penetrates through the opposing defense to receive the ball from the midfield and create a scoring opportunity in a fast-paced attack. In a contrast to the short-statured Galindo, Guzman's height allows him to be effective when making headers. He currently plays for the club Silvana FC in the country of Relikai.

Daniel Gallegos

Daniel Gallegos is an attacking midfielder, wearing the number 12 shirt for Los Azules. Gallegos is part of "The Three G's" attacking unit, acting as a playmaker for the forwards Gallegos and Guzman. Left-footed, he is notable for his quick dribbling combined with the tricks and feints characteristic of the Juego Bello, initiating the fast-paced attacks of the Langenian form of football and crossing the ball to the strikers. Gallegos is also known for his powerful kick, allowing him to score from a distance away from the goal. This makes him the primary free kick taker for Los Azules. He currently plays for the club Athlitikos Apollonias in the country of Romaia.

Style of Play

Formation: 4-3-3
Style Modifier: +3

Image

Note: Disregard player names on diagram as it dates from Baptism of Fire 84. Nonetheless, the formation is the same.

The Langenian form of football is known for the flamboyant style of attacking that is its trademark, called the Juego Bello. The Juego Bello focuses on attacking the opposing side's goal through fast-paced dribbling and the use of tricks and feints such as elasticos and rainbow flicks, ultimately with the end of overwhelming the defense and opening up passing lanes to score.

To this end, Los Azules use a 4-3-3 formation, with an attacking unit of two forwards and an attacking midfielder at the head of the formation. This unit is the engine of the Langenian team on the field given its focus on offense and scoring a goal at any cost. Currently, the "Three G's" of Daniel Gallegos, Oscar Galindo, and Raul Guzman perform this role, penetrating through the defense to receive the ball from the midfield and score.

The midfield is the most versatile part of the team, with the Langenians deploying a central midfielder to act as a passer to the attacking unit at the front, supported by two wingers. It is on this section of the team that the fast-paced dribbling of the Juego Bello is carried out, with the midfield being responsible for initiating attacks. Despite having the role of passers, the midfielders are also an important part of the offense. It is not unusual for them to move up and act as a second wave of attackers after the forwards, overwhelming the opposing defense through speed and powerful shots from far out. In addition, if necessary they move back to reinforce their own defense when the Langenian goal is being attacked.

In the defense, two centre-backs and two fullbacks on the left and right flanks assist the goalkeeper in protecting the goal. Despite the Langenian style of football having a major focus on offense, the tenure of Enrique Vargas as head coach has seen Los Azules make changes to improve the quality of the defense, placing a focus on stopping the attack before it begins by reinforcing the defense with players from the midfield during an attack, thus outnumbering the attackers and intercepting passes to sweep the ball out back to the forwards. The four defenders are each assigned a specific zone to protect with the purpose of responding to any intruder within that zone, preventing them from dribbling towards the goal.

Stadium

The home ground of Los Azules is Diego Talaman Stadium. Located in the heart of Aragon, the national capital of Langenia, it can hold up to 80,000 fans for football games. The stadium is named after Diego Talaman, one of the most famous players in Langenian history and the all-time leading goalscorer for the Langenian national team. Construction of the stadium began in 2006 and was completed in 2010, built with the purpose of hosting Los Azules and Real Aragon, the Liga Nacional team based in the Langenian capital. In addition, it can also host other sports such as gridiron and rugby or be used as a concert venue.

Alternate Venue

Another stadium in which the Langenian national team plays is in Miraflores Stadium in San Jose, the largest city in the country. Located in the city's wealthy Miraflores neighborhood, the stadium has a capacity of up to 70,000 fans for football games and can also host other sports such as gridiron or rugby games. In the past, it has also been utilized as a concert venue. Recently built to host the San Jose CF football team, it acts as an alternate venue for the Los Azules national team.

Squad for World Cup 97

Players
Audioslavia recently underwent something of a temporal shift. Players now age at only two years per cycle, rather than four. Nevertheless, some more experienced players have been left out of the CAFA Cup squad, which aims to give a couple of younger prospects the first of what could become many, many caps.

About this squad
A young Audioslavia squad showed signs of promise in the ninth CAFA Cup, eventually losing out to Ko-oren in a positively (or should that be negatively) post-footballtastic knockout encounter.

Manager Winfridh picks a similar squad to take Audioslavia through World Cup qualifying and, with a little luck, just their fourth World Cup in eight attempts. While the staff may be similar, the formation has supposedly been changed up, with two quick wing-backs supporting a hard-working midfield three (Coorie the water carrier, Buckley the playmaker, Bruhn the incisive runner from deep). Zendagorta makes a return to the starting line-up in a supporting role for the tall, athletic Lúnquerque, whose talents for turning crosses and through passes into shots on target will be Audioslavia's bread and butter up front.

At the back, captain Tibere is a former Savigliane international, while alongside him is a mixture of youth (highly rated ball-playing Bombarralense defender Gostamuito) and toughness (Alex Bocker will chase you down and stamp on you for even glancing absent-mindedly at the far post).

About Audioslavia

Potted history
 • Audioslavia reached the finals of World Cups 12, 19, 20 and 29, losing all of them and gaining a reputation as a team that chokes.
 • After thirty cycles away, Audioslavia returned to win the Baptism of Fire before World Cup 59, won a regional championship in cycle 60 and then won back-to-back World Cups in cycles 63 and 64. That's the golden generation right there.
 • Things went back to normal after that. The side lost a few more major finals, including World Cups 67, 69 and 76.
 • Recent cycles have seen Audioslavia fall to the midfield in the rankings, failing to qualify for four out of the last five World Cups. That disappointment was been offset by victory in CAFA Cup 3 and Cup of Harmony 83, both in Cycle 91. The side's fortunes have continued to slide since, and at this point football fans have become accustomed to the side being on the fringes of international football.
 • Audioslavia is one of two nations to have won five different major senior titles - BoF, CoH, WC plus two different regional championships. They recently became the only team in history to have recorded 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed finishes in each of the three WCC tournaments, plus regional competition.
 • Recently discovered in the history books: A regional tournament for the now-defunct FIFA region, held before World Cup 28. Audioslavia won this tournament, but do not consider it to be an official regional title unless Nepharans are in the room.

Style of Play
 • Post Football is the name given to Audioslavia's style of play. It's based on the idea that, the less the game resembles football, the more ill at ease your opponents will be. Audioslavia play dirty, sideways and overly cautiously. The addition of Winfridh as manager initially curtailed this somewhat, but the Bulls are expected to play five across the back for the qualifiers.
 • Kontrapuntzeka is another word for Audioslavia's style of play. Literally meaning counter-attacking, Audioslavia's national team are comfortable playing without the ball and charging forward in numbers when they do finally get it. Each player on this team has a deep understanding of how, when and where to attack on the counter. Losing the ball and allowing the Bulls to hit you on the break can be fatal to even the best teams in the multiverse.
 • Audioslavian managers have started trying to get the defenders to pass the ball around the back to entice their opponents forward. Audioslavian defenders hate this almost as much as Audioslavian fans.
 • Our footballers tend to be on the shorter, leaner side, with everyone outside of the goalie, centre forward and centre half topping out at about 5'10.
 • Audioslavian footballers are often tenacious, with the highest levels of stamina you'll see in world football. Audioslavian sides are often capable of playing at a high-tempo for long periods of time, and wins are often through attrition rather than skill.
 • Audioslavian teams are notorious for gamesmanship - the bending of the rules in order to gain an advantage. Players will taunt, feign injury, surround the referee, basically anything if it seems like it'd be beneficial. Audioslavians feel no shame in this. As far as they're concerned, their willingness to go further than the other team is a sign that they're more dedicated than their opponents might be. What might be considered dishonourable behaviour for you might be considered normal in Audioslavia.
 • Audioslavian teams fear losing. It's our greatest weakness and, given how this fear manifests itself in big games, a powerful irony
 • As well as lacking a bit of raw power, Audioslavian footballers often lack technique compared to their foreign counterparts. Nobody in the team is stationary and expecting a pass to feet. Passes are played into roughly the space the player will be sprinting into. When the side are countering, it's all speed-speed-speed.
 • Above all else though, what Audioslavian national teams often lack is heart. The worse things are going, the worse Audioslavians play. They're the classic bully. When things don't pan out as they expect, they retreat physically and mentally.

The Manager
Affectionately nicknamed 'Opera' on account of his loud, weirdly melodic instructions bellowed from the sidelines to his team-mates, Winfridh became just the second manager in five cycles to guide Audioslavia to a World Cup finals, albeit with little success while there (two draws and one defeat were not enough to progress). Like most Daineri footballers and increasingly Audioslavians of Daineri decsent, 'Winfridh' is his only name.

Formerly a goalkeeper at Daineri club Doubleplusgood, Winfridh became Silexhera FC's first choice goalkeeper following their promotion to the top flight. There, he performed miracles in keeping the side in top division football, coming close to a Globe Cup spot in one season. The side would be relegated in Season 11 of the National League, after which Winfridh would join then-second division CF Daineri, winning promotion as backup keeper before fully entrenching himself into the managerial role he'd already made his own. He presided over the side's initial three-season stay in the top division, and pushed the side back up into the top flight in his second to last season at the club.

Often with left-field approaches to individual games, if with a propensity to over-think. His Audioslavia's brand of post-football has been interesting, if sometimes unproductive.

Home, Away

Home shirt is traditionally worn with white shorts and socks, but if our opponents are wearing that colour then we switch to the same deep red as the shirts. This is what usually ends up happening. Dark green or black shorts have been worn on occasion.

Stadia
Image
Champs-de-Mars
Capacity: 24,000
Located in Conflans in the Province of Sourterre near the old ceremonial plaza of the same name. Champs-de-Mars Stadium is the new home of Stade Conflans of the Super 8 Football league. The design features large sail-like decorations that reminds fans of the home team's colours and logo. This feature also helps give the façade a more closed look to a somewhat open stadium. The openness helps with wind and air circulation which cools down fans on hot summer days. The concourse serves traditional stadium foods as well as local favourites like popcorn on the cob. On the pitch, the brand new premium quality hybrid grass will ensure players are playing at their best for all the fans present.

Image
Arène Alphonse-Sintegne
Capacity: 50,000
Arène Alphonse-Sintègne is retractable roof sports stadium in Couen, Foubrac, Patriotlandia. Home of AS Couen, the stadium is not the newest but the atmosphere and experience is still top class. It offers great views from every seat and the central jumbotron, remiscent of an hockey arena, ensures all the visitors get as close to the action as possible. The stadium is a stone throw away from the Couen city center but is fairly accessible by public transit via a network of shuttles throughout the city. The city is also inviting to travelling fans with plenty of attractions like visiting the National Arsenal and the old town center.

Image
Navy Memorial Stadium
Capacity: 62000
Built on the historical navy training grounds, Navy Memorial Stadium is the crown jewel of the Super 8 league. Blending traditional and modern architectural cues, the stadium is impressive not only in size but beauty inside and out. The sixty-two thousand all seated capacity is also the highest of any stadium in the country. The stadium is located on the shores of Abelanne Bay by the old citadelle. Fans can also enjoy plenty of shops and restaurants on the way to the game with the city center only a few minutes away.

The Federation of Panay Islands and Guimaras, also called Panay Islands and Guimaras, or Panay-Guimaras is a nation in Asia. Located in the Philippine archipelago, Panay Islands and Guimaras has been a touristic hotbed because of its beaches and nature conserving tourist attractions which the government funded. The Panay Islands and Guimaras dominion is consisted of 5 autonomous provinces and 1 federal canton.

The Panayense national football team was founded before the first Far Eastern Games in 1913 and represents Panay Islands and Guimaras in international stages. Sports has been so popular amongst Panayenses and is heavily funded by the government. The main sports were football, basketball, volleyball, boxing, baseball, and Australian rules football, or as we call it "balonpié".

The national team plays its games at the Paulino Alcántara Stadium in Iloílo City, in the Federal Canton but sometimes the national team held games in other autonomous provinces such as Iloílo, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, and Guimarás. Even in Antique's federal district of the Caluya Islands.

The fans here is so passionate, just like in the Latin American countries, where they have drums, repiques, snares, trombones, trumpets, colorful tifos, and banners to show support for the national team.

THE STARTING ELEVEN (WITH SUBSTITUTES)

ABOUT THE MANAGER
Claudio Niiyama was born in León, Iloílo with parents Sachiko and Romualdo. He first played professionally with CS Leganés. He had a decent career in both first and second division, until injuries made him to retire. Because of his bachelor degree in politics at the Royal Central University, which he played for varsity, he took the managing job for teams like Unión Barotaqueño, ASU Antique, and Gimnasia de Passi. He had some successes there as a manager that led him to manage the national team since 2021.

ABOUT THE HEAD COACH
Lázaro Pierini was born in Tero al Disco. He first started coaching in the 2nd division with the likes of Palestino and Sportivo Escobar. He has some many successes with them as they got promoted. After a success with Gimnasia y Bala, the RAFP called him up on the phone and told him after a season with Gimnasia y Bala, he would step up as a national team coach for the Carabaos. He accepted the offer. When he first stepped in as a coach, he saw the flaws of the team and started them to improve the attacking. And the team has improved with him and his team of fellow Terense assistant coaches Mariano Engelmann and and Jorge Arrascaeta.

PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR

MIGUEL ALDOVINO
He was a collegiate standout for the University of Saint Augustine for his breathtaking saves and reflexes. And when he got into the professional leagues, his saves and reflexes have been improved ever since he step into the pros.

EDUARDO HEO
Heo is also a collegiate standout but for the Korean University of the Federal Canton. He's just like Sergio Ramos but better. He might have the hooligan personality but he actually defended the field with pride and passion and he bring that passion and pride into the pros.

MANUEL MORI
A tackling machine from the Antique Provincial University and until now, a tackling machine in the pros for CS Leganés. So, watch out for the tackling supersub!

JOSÉ LUIS DEL CASTRO
Currently playing in Imporia, José Luis has been a good midfielder from Guimarás, but the Imporian scouts has seen his brilliant dribbling skills and his goalscoring ability. So he's going to get signed by an Imporian club and his skills haven't been much better ever since he stepped foot on the Imporian pros.

MANOLITO RODRIGUEZ
A Panay Royal University standout for his leadership and dribbling skills, has captained both varsity and professional level, currently plays for his beloved Iloílo Industrial. He's an all-around captain. A defender, dribbler, goalscorer, and a leader. He recently got master's degree in both economics and political sciences in the same university he played in.

JAVIER RICALDE
A Panayense superstar, the first non-Edsmon to play in the Edsmon leagues, Javi Ricalde has been a proving top goalscorer since he joined the pros at an early young age of 17 after getting drafted from his high school. He played first for Marítimo de Roxas and Regatas Boracay, where he always became the league's topscorer. That's why the Edsmons are interested to sign him into the Edsmon leagues, and has played here ever since he stepped foot in Edsmontik. (Ironic that he's playing our rivals there but come on he's a goalscorer)

WCQ-97 Roster

Postby Delte » Wed Jul 31, 2024 12:54 am

★★
WC-95IAC-21

World Cup 97
River Delte Representative Team
Tournament Squad

My opponent, if they RP first, may consider:
Everything permitted: Yes
Pick The Teams: Yes
Right to Reciprocity Reserved: Yes

Attacking Modifier: +3.33

First Colours: All Green of The Valley
Change Colours: All Redshirts Away Team
Third Colour: All World Cup Winner's Medal Gold
Kit Supplier: ediraf

Nickname: The Representatives (commonly The Reps)
Formation: Attack-minded 4-3-3 'Stoicpress' - intense but unemotional defending from the front

Team Anthem: Three Salmon On Our Shirts (Never Stop The Leaping)

The Deltic people are a stoic bunch, and the team plays in this style - not over emotional, not flashy, not given to wild celebration or remonstrating with referees, not diving or faking injuries. They shake hands when they score goals and pat each other on the back in encouragement when they concede them. Matches might be high scoring as they prefer an attacking formation and the high 'stoicpress' invented by former coach, Enda Clentin; but off the pitch it's all rather pedestrian. They're not much use for post-match interviews.

The Representatives
Tournament Squad
The Representatives are a team of (mostly) amateur players from the Delte Valley area of a largely empty corner sidewise of the North Pacific region; but that did not stop them from winning World Cup '95, thanks to their unique stoicpress tactics and the experience of former World Cup winner Climo Coss, aged 157 and three quarters and formerly of Wight, who commandeered the midfield with other star player Enor Perro and showed the world he still had it. Some say it was the biggest shock since World Cup '19, others that it was simply shocking, but they couldn't stop The Postman, The Picklock and The Pensioner from attaining glory.

In the last World Cup, as reigning champions, the team could never reach the heights of previous stardom and reverted to being a bunch of amateurs who shouldn't be at a World Cup tournament, being eliminated in the first knockout round to the appliances of Sylestone. Except, they weren't so amateur. The success of the previous cycle meant a few players won professional contracts around the world, from Quebec to Saterun and everywhere in between. Some say, and the Deltic FA (as occupied by the Rake Teinton Women's Institute) among them, that professionalism is ruining the modern Deltic game, along with diving, play-acting, elves and foreign types. Nonsense of course, but the anti-professionalism is a real hot topic in the valley right now, with the FA wanting an outright ban.

An article on the selection details for the tournament squad will appear in an RP post here.

HEAD COACH: Ida Spankhurst of Rake Teinton Women's Institute, age 83 and three quarters
ASSISTANT: Mo Unden, World Cup winning joint head coach (with Enore Perro), now officially #2
TECHNICAL ADVISOR: Climo Coss, about twice Ida's age, plays for Mya Lemony in Farf and unofficially #2 on the Reps management
ASSISTANT: Seamus Awton, IAC-21 winning and IAC-20 finalist coach
COACH: Enor Perro, stepped down from World Cup winning Joint Head Coach to concentrate on football & business
COACH: Aleard Sullenden, a brewery technician, discovered NSWC signups whilst on holiday
COACH: Davey Tinnalt, the head coach at Toddwardine Athletic, first assistant Delte coach under Enda Clentin
CHIEF MEDIC: Dr.Orem Ustingham (Doc Orem), discovered Hyper-Gerontological Syndrome

Home Stadium: Ildemorton Road, Oswark-upon-Delte
Capacity: 12,000 Visitor Allocation: 450

To celebrate the Representative's stunning and shocking - at the same time - World Cup victory in Chromatika and/or Sylestone in the cycle before last, the old Ildemorton Road stadium in Oswark was finally completed after several tournaments of temporary extensions and ongoing renovation of the old stands. Increasing capacity from 200 plus some rickety scaffold erections on matchdays to a quite vast 12,000, the new stadium dwarfs the former superdome of The Oswark Parish Advertiser Arena, which had long been the biggest in the valley but only comes in at a meagre 10,000 seats. Commercial naming rights to the new stadium are under consideration, and a recent public vote to pick a new name returned 'Ildemorton Road' as the favourite, although 'Tumbledown Park', in honour of the Reps' defeated opponent in the World Cup '95 Final, is rumoured to have been the true winner vetoed by the Deltic FA so as not to offend anyone.

Time does not stand still in the valley even if it goes a lot slower than everywhere else in the multiverse, and there have been great changes at the All-Week Super Ultra Premier Football Association following the shock resignation of chair Issenda Tenning shortly after the World Cup. As the whole valley reels at the sudden rise of the Rake Teinton Women's Institute into politics, culture wars and disco revivalism, they have managed to place one of their own at the top of the FA, as Widow Arrinburton takes over the reigns from disgraced Ms. Tenning. The Widow moved quickly to appoint a colleague into the coaching team, with Rake Teinton Standing Badminton champion Ida Spankhurst, allegedly very good at sports, appointed into the role of head coach. World Cup winning coach Mo Unden is demoted to number two, and assistant Romain Rivière, a Cooperite refugee, is banished to the away team. Ida denies any anti-Rushmori sentiment but something is bound to surface from recent WI hustings which are known to have become incendiary events. More on this in the RPO documentary series 'Even By Your Usual Standards'.

As explained in a previous World Cup cycle, a condition known as hyper-gerontological syndrome, HGS, or commonly 'The Jerry' has impacted on travelling outside of the Delte Valley. To mitigate against this, the All-Week Super Ultra Premier Football Association, the FA, had forbidden players who travelled to away matches in previous cycles from travelling again, to preserve their health. Therefore the FA operates two squads for qualification, a home team and an away team. While a cure for The Jerry is already undergoing trials and looks very promising indeed, the FA feels their home and away policy has returned pretty spectacular dividends - and who could argue with that? Expect to see the same policy continue for the foreseeable.

As for the main team, The Reps welcome back their ancient talisman Climo Coss, who defected back to his first nation of Wight for the last World Cup and was sorely missed in the poor finals showing. He will sit as technical adviser to Ida Spankhurst in the current cycle for the former World Champions. The shocking ban on professional footballers in the team by the Rake Teinton Women's Institute (err, I mean, Deltic FA) means the home team has a different look to it with several key members missing, although moderate head coach Ida Spankhurst has worked some loophole magic - a skill acquired from her days as a champion knitter - and most of the pros do get a place in the extra-strong looking away team mission. Meanwhile, former sensational young striker turned unemployed failed professional Henry Lightman gets a vote of sympathy from 'Granny Ida' and is selected for the qualification squad.

KANZLIAN ROSTER FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

Nation Name: The Reformed State of Kanzlia

Trigram: KNZ

Demonym: Kanzlian

Nickname: The Exiles

Kanzlia, formally recognised as Reformed Kanzlian State, is an island democratic republic on the far north of Roses Without Thorns. The country is divided into 7 provinces. Its main island, Kalta, consists of nearly 85% of the country's population whilst the smaller island of Farioli makes up the rest. The seat of power in Kanzlia lies on its southernmost and largest port city of Szbedansk. It’s followed by the cities of Kotr, Tergtheim, and Ibsia. The country is well known for the cold.

The Kanzlian National Football Team (Also known as Voetbalvereniging Kanzlia) was founded in 1900 but Kanzlian Football, in its current pyramid, was only finalised in the 1990s. Prior to this, a double league system was utilised. Anyhow, football is by far the most popular sport in Kanzlia with stadiums jam-packed full in every match of the season. Kanzlia with its history of hardships and prolonged periods of misery has resulted in a deep connection between the sport and Kanzlian society. The culture of the sport is one of fiery passion but also with a noticeable aspect of humbleness. A pundit said that Kanzlians are the sorest of losers during the 90 minutes, but once the game ends they switch back to normal often with an optimistic mood regardless of the result.

The Kanzlian National Team went on a record 11-game unbeaten streak in RWOT during the great famine (dubbed the Kanzlian Collapse) in the 1960s whilst being barred to play a game in Kanzlia. Hence how they got the nickname of “The Exiles”.

The VVK plays its official games in the Stadia Szbedansk, a relatively modern 53,280 seater stadium. Friendly games are often played in various stadiums but typically between the 45,000-seater Kotr Stadium and the 32,000-seater Marc Letos Stadium.

Manager: Vassilis v. Coevorden (48)

Preferred Tactic: 4-3-3

Style: +1

Vassilis van Coevorden, the father of the triple Coevordens (Ardentius, Reiner, and Sylverio) has managed the national team for 2 years now. His style of play seeks to create overloads in the opposition box by committing multiple players forward, regardless of opposition. His tempo is quick and always seeking for space to control the games tempo and move the pitch further towards the opposition.

During build-up Vassilis utilise the goalkeeper to help in the transition to pass the ball either to the dropped midfielder or the wingbacks ready to take off and exploit any available space they can get themselves into. During the attack, Vassilis utilise his wingers to invert and run into the box whilst the wingbacks take up the wings. This overload is intended to confuse and disorient the opposition. With this the oppositions half-spaces is left vulnerable to be exploited by the midfielders, and the wingers.

The veteran goalkeeper is renowned for his on-the-ball ability more than his goalkeeping. He’s always calm and composed in possession and never hesitant to drag an opposing player towards him to free up space for the defenders. His goalkeeping is still good, he managed to keep 11 clean sheets in 30 games for a struggling Armada Kotr side. His high stature (197 cm) and dexterity with all of his limbs makes him an integral part in keeping possession and progressing the ball forwards. You sometimes forget he’s 35.

Christian Bagheria
The Tergtheim native had a breakout season the season prior. His tall and big physique is enough to scare forwards from challenging him in the air. His long legs allows him to be notorious for tackling faster players from the side. He’s still 22 so several aspects of his game, such as aggressiveness, still needs to be refined. But otherwise Bagheria deserves his sport in the starting lineup because of the indispensible defensive qualities and insurance he brings to the team.

Ardentius van Coevorden
The youngest of the Triple Coevordens, Ardentius in a matter of 3 games managed to claim Don Kaap’s usually secure starting position for 1899 Szbedansk. What makes Ardentius really unique is actually his superb offensive capabilities. Comfortable with the ball, and not shy to dribble past players to bring the ball into the midfield. He often find himself in the opposition box during a counter attack. Not to mention his stamina, its almost as if this kid have backup lungs! Though naturally with a defender finding himself constantly on the other side of the pitch - he needs to improve his game reading and make better decisions.
One other part of his game that stands out is his ability to predict opponents passes. During his debut in the Szbedansk Derby no less, he managed to intercept 7 passes in 20 minutes (including 2 through-balls!). He immediately became a fan favourite as a result and ganed his nickname of “de Onderschepper” or the interceptor.

Evert van Selm
A bright spot in Armada Kotr’s disastrous season, Evert van Selm took upon himself to be the glue of the team. He scans the pitch often and his first touch is simply sublime. He often supports defenders who werent too comfortable with the ball and thanks to his reading of the game was always in a position where he can pass it to someone else. His vigour and passion allows him to remain consistent throughout the season but also throughout the 90 minutes. He runs as often as he does in the first minutes to stoppage time.

Sylverio van Coevorden
Another of the Triple Coevordens. Intially met intense criticism from the media for nepotism due to his inclusion in the national team roster by his father, he silenced his critics almost immediately. In his debut for Kanzlia he provided two assists, and 5 games in his international career he already have 5 goal contributions. He’s one who wouldnt back away from dribbiling past defenders but he always look for an option to pass if that’s the best option. It’s a mindset and game reading you wouldnt expect to find in a 22 year old. Blistering with pace he simply just outruns his man marker and giving him space is near-guaranteed to give him a chance at goal. His flair is also very noticeable, and drew a lot of criticism (from Armada fans) back home when he feinted a pass against Ron Tyke. Ron Tyke would turn so abruptly he tore his ACL and his injury forced him to retire. One part of the game he has to improve on is conserving his energy, Sylverio hasnt made a full 90 minute apperance in his past 10 games he appeared in. A testament to how much passion he plays but also proves that the 22-year-old still has a lot to learn.

ELLIS FOOTBALL: THE HAPILOPPIAN TEAM
Full Nation Name: The Dominion of Hapilopper
Trigramme: HAP
Nickname: The Haps
Team Colors: Blue, Green and Black

Info:
Ellis Football, the Hapilopper National Football Team, is on an interesting streak. The team finished third in the Campionato Esportiva with some truly inspired performances in matches against teams like Sylestone, Restresas and Slembana, and the Hapilopper Football Association recently co-hosted the Baptism of Fire with the Tumbran Football Federation. But there is still a massive void left with the death of Nathan Ellis. The national team will keep the name "Ellis Football" in his memory, and the team is excited for what the future holds. World Cup 97 may be the start of a new era for Hapiloppian football, with a team hell-bent on making this an era of stability the team has long been seeking. They think they might be able to do it.

COACHING STAFF:
ACTING HEAD COACH: Thom Perkins
Following Ellis's death, HFA head Dom Probst announced that the national team will never again have a "head coach," but rather an "acting head coach." Officially, Nathan Ellis is still the head coach of Team Hapilopper, but leading the squad is Thom Perkins, who helped lead Hapiloppian football to the World Cup proper a few years ago. Perkins was seen as the best selection to lead Hapiloppian football in the future following his positive track record of bringing teams together - first in the Baptism of Fire many years ago, and then to qualifying for World Cups 90 and 91. Perkins will rely on a 4-2-3-1 formation for most of the competition.

ASSISTANT COACH: Ernie Stevenson
ASSISTANT MANAGER: Dennis Billett
GOALKEEPING COACH: Mark Tillett
TRAINER: Bill Rothstein
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR: Lyndon Auditor
PHYSIO: Tab Butler

Stadium:
Nathan Ellis Field at Capital Stadium, Hapilopper City, Hapilopper
Built: 1970 | Seating Capacity: 66,025 | Open-Air | Artificial Turf
Image

(Pictured: Capital Stadium in gridiron configuration)
Capital Stadium, Hapilopper's de facto national stadium, is the last of Hapilopper's classic cookie-cutter venues, used for a variety of applications, including the Hapilopper City Nationals baseball team, the Hapilopper National Baseball Team and is the home of Team Hapilopper. As is custom with cookie-cutter stadiums, the park is completely symmetrical and is surrounded by multiple decks of stands, typically filled with screaming fans when the home team is doing well. Back in the 1970s, the HC Nationals, and their vaunted "National Machine" dominated Hapiloppian baseball, and brought over four million fans through the turnstiles on six occasions. Hapiloppian fans have vowed to come to Capital Stadium in force for Team Hapilopper games. Typically, Hapiloppian fans, including the members of the "Traveling Thrashers" supporters group are among the wildest fans in sport, and promise to be exactly that for the World Cup. Expect to see fans dancing along to 1970s funk music, slamming drums as loudly as possible, waving their flags, and throwing streamers for every Hapiloppian goal.

#1 - LOU HYDE | Goalkeeper | Age: 26 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @louis_hyde | Club: United Hampton Cities
Style of Play: Sweeper Keeper | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Medium | Attitude: Brooding
The starting goalkeeper for the new Team Hapilopper squad is Louis Hyde, a dark, brooding figure that doesn't necessarily enjoy being around other people. He enjoys the company of his cat, Smokey, and the slow, mournful tunes he listens to on the radio, but aside from that, not much else. You won't see him at a party, and you won't see him slamming back brews with his teammates. Regardless, his teammates at United Hampton Cities think the world of him - primarily because he does his job well. He's there to stop goals, and he does it with great precision. He doesn't get too emotional and he doesn't let the matter at hand get to his head too much.

Image
#2 - HUNTLEY McCULLOUGH | Defenseman | Age: 26 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @mccullough40 | Club: Kingsland Warriors
Style of Play: Defensive Back | Speed: Fast | Physicality: High | Attitude: Asshole
One of several veterans of Ellis Football, Huntley McCullough was constantly compared to a younger Nathan Ellis - which, depending on your point of view, could be either the nicest thing anyone could say about someone or the absolute worst. For the Kingsland Warriors, who love his physical, balls-to-the-wall style of play where he willingly puts himself in harm's way to stop a goalscoring effort, it's about the nicest thing. For fans of other teams and in other countries, it's not a very charitable statement about a ballplayer that they feel is just as likely to wage a holy war on the football field as he is to wage the kind of defense that normal football enthusiasts consider "acceptable."

Image
#3 - ARN MARCH | Defenseman | Age: 25 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @EnforcerMarch | Club: The Soldiers (Hapilopper City)
Style of Play: Defensive Enforcer | Speed: Medium-Fast | Physicality: Very High | Attitude: Asshole
If you saw Arnold March at Center Street Pub in Hapilopper City - a place he loves to frequent after matches, you'd think he was a 45-year old middle class father of three who enjoyed a cold beer or two - and in fact, many football fans say March is "like that uncle that loves to kick ass on the weekends." You wouldn't think he was the 25-year old "Enforcer" of the Soldiers squad, a physical and imposing character who has gained quite the attention in the last couple of years for his rough play. In most countries, his play - complete with a signature move called a "spinebuster" where he picks up a player on the opposing team, torques about 90 degrees to the left and drives them into the turf - would be called churlish at best, criminal at worst. But in Hapilopper, it's par for the course and almost to be expected in the wild and crazy world of Hapiloppian sport.

Image
#4 - SCOTT ROUNDTREE | Defenseman | Age: 22 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @RoundtreeScott | Club: Halsted Heat
Style of Play: Centerback | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Medium-High | Attitude: Intense
It has been observed among members of the Hapiloppian media that the starting defense of Team Hapilopper is dominated by some real charmers - Rod Cutt, Arnold March and Huntley McCullough. Assholes all. On the other hand, Scott Roundtree might be the biggest exception. Roundtree, the captain of the Halsted Heat squad, is said to be one of the nicer players in Hapiloppian football off the pitch. He involves himself in charity work, feeding the less fortunate and raising money to send children to college. On the field, however, Scott is a tenacious bulldog that can stop offensive efforts with his body and doesn't mind putting himself in harm's way to keep goals from being scored. In a famous incident last year against the West Hampton Sports Club, Roundtree dove in front of the ball in an effort to keep it from hitting the back of the net. Unfortunately, WHSC forward Tommy Hobbs didn't stop in time and kicked Roundtree right in the face. Rather than being pissed off about it, however, Roundtree laughed it off, and an image of a bloodied Roundtree chuckling about getting kicked in the face made newspapers all over Hapilopper.

Image
#05 - ROD CUTT | Defenseman | Age: 26 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (Banned from twii.tur) | Club: Minortown SC
Style of Play: Defensive Back | Speed: Medium-Fast | Physicality: Violent | Attitude: Major Asshole
The first player hand-picked by the late Nathan Ellis to be a part of the Ellis Football squad, Rod Cutt was picked to be a part of Ellis Football because of his violent tendencies - and that's putting it mildly. Cutt kicked Mort Teeples in the balls in frustration, receiving a straight red and the ire of the fans in Garvinson. Then he threatened to fight the referee. Then he threatened to fight a few fans. But Nathan loved that kind of style. Nathan loved that kind of attitude and fire, telling friends that "a player like Roddy Cutt is a player that wins me football games, and that's why I brought him in." In Nathan's memory, the HFA has offered this roster slot to Cutt, and a modified version of "The Number of Violence," 05, rather than Nathan's 5, which has been retired in the wake of Ellis's death.

Image
#6 - TIM RADOMIA | Midfielder | Age: 24 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @timradomia30 | Club: Garvinson Trojans
Style of Play: Defensive Midfielder | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Only When Necessary | Attitude: Stoner
The good news is that Timmy Radomia, that chill midfielder with the long hair and the weird smile, is still a crucial part of the Hapiloppian midfield. The bad news is that he enjoys his green plants a tiny bit too much, still. Timmy was recently suspended by the Trojans for openly smoking a bong about a half hour before a Garvinson match against the Halsted Heat in front of the entire team, and smoking out the entire Garvinson clubhouse to the point where the entire team, its staff and two reporters got a pretty gnarly contact high as a result. Garvinson lost the match, 6-0, and Radomia was given a straight red in the first five minutes after running up to the referee with a really goofy smile on his face and going on a tangent about ham sandwiches, fried chicken and conservative politicians from the Garvinson area. We wish we were making this up.

Image
#7 - HERB WATTS | Midfielder | Age: 27 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @herbert-w17 | Club: Pinkerton City SC
Style of Play: Defensive Midfielder | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Medium-High | Attitude: Intense
Soccer players in Hapilopper tend to have some very interesting quirks about them. Some get a little too artistic about scoring goals. Others could be put on terrorism watch lists for their violent style of play, while others make their teammates uneasy with what they do. For Herbert Watts, the midfielder from Pinkerton, his quirk tends to involve daytime trash television. Watts loves those trashy talk shows that cover deep, intellectual subjects like "I'm leaving you for my cousin!" and "I discovered my wife is sleeping with a racist!" to the point where these shows - to the chagrin of his teammates - are aired in the Pinkerton clubhouse before practice every morning. Herbert is reportedly an active poster on message boards that discuss these daytime talk shows and wrote a passionate defense of these shows in the Pinkerton Daily Times - saying it was a guilty pleasure of many, but damn it, it's fun to watch, so let us have these shows.

Image
#8 - JARED KELCEY | Midfielder | Age: 24 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @jaredkelcey | Club: Capital City United
Style of Play: Offensive (in more than one way) Midfielder | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Heavy (to himself) | Attitude: Clumsy
Following the long tradition of Hapiloppian athletes doing dumb things to themselves, Jared Kelcey has been asked by Capital City United to please not drive himself to the stadium for the good of everyone. This follows an incident where Kelcey apparently got ticketed by Hapilopper City Police for driving the wrong way down a one-way street, going 75 in a 35, and nearly mowing down a church bus full of old ladies going to the community center for their weekly bingo game. This also follows a bizarre incident at Capital Stadium in a match against Peoria where Kelcey tried going for a header, he missed and face-planted the artificial turf with extreme prejudice. This also follows an incident where, not looking where he was going at Capital City's training facility, he smashed into a vending machine, breaking glass and sending snacks flying through the air. This guy might be a walking disaster area, folks, so tread lightly.

Image
#9 - TAD WINSLOW | Midfielder | Age: 26 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (none) | Club: FC Surrey
Style of Play: Offensive Midfielder | Speed: Medium-Fast | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Creative
One of a growing breed of Hapiloppian midfielders who can score goals just as well as the strikers, Tad Winslow has been the premier goal scoring threat for FC Surrey, scoring 22 goals last season, oftentimes from some really unusual places and in unusual ways - and we're not just talking about the "bicycle kick past the keeper's head," we're talking "trick shot off the post" kind of goals. And, in truth, Winslow should probably be credited for 23 goals last season, but because of rules concerning own goals, perhaps his wildest trick shot goal (and the wildest trick shot goal probably ever) didn't count to him. In a match against Kingsland Warriors, Winslow fired one directly at Kingsland defenseman Huntley McCullough, striking him directly in the nuts. The ball bounced off McCullough's nuts and into the goal. McCullough doubled over in pain, and to add insult to injury, he got credited with an own goal. Winslow got a yellow card for his impetuosity.

Image
#10 - BEN FAIRCHILD | Forward | Age: 21 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @bennyfairchild | Club: Hap City Highway Patrol
Style of Play: Center Forward | Speed: Very Fast | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Professional
The ironic thing about Ben Fairchild playing for a team called the "Highway Patrol" - a team owned by the City Police Brotherhood Union - is that he tends to drive a tad bit too fast out on the road, not letting a little thing like a "speed limit" slow him down. Fairchild, who scored 31 goals for Highway Patrol last season, also racked up 31 speeding tickets in that same time - which he happily pays a few days later, even with an admonishment to "please slow your ass down." Fairchild nearly got himself out of one ticket back in February when he told a police officer that he was so happy he got pulled over, because that meant he'd score a goal in the next match. The officer thought that was funny, but told him to please, good god almighty damn, slow your ass down.

Image
#11 - STAN MCLAMB | Forward | Age: 25 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @mclamb11 | Club: Garvinson Trojans
Style of Play: Artistic Goal-Scoring | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Asshole
The thing about Stan McLamb is that he's great. He's a genius when it comes to scoring goals - scoring 37 for Garvinson last season. The problem with Stan McLamb is that he's great and he knows it. He wants you to know he's great. He has let his greatness come to his head, and he isn't shy about letting his teammates know that he is not only great, but he's better than anyone else. And that was, to be sure, a red flag for Nathan Ellis when he recruited McLamb. And that was, to be sure, a red flag when Thom Perkins and Ernie Stevenson saw Stan storm straight into the offices of the Hapilopper Football Association demanding his roster spot. But, you see, Nathan loved Stan. He thought he was one of the best goal-scoring ballplayers he had ever seen. And he loved his attitude. Stan lives and dies by "Win the whole fucking thing," which was Nathan's mantra, and he's going to make damn sure the team does just that.

Image
#21 - DANIEL BRADFORD | Defenseman | Age: 22 | Kicks: Ass | twii.tur: @dannybradford50 | Club: FC Buckridge
Style of Play: Centerback | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Like a pissed-off drunk at a honky tonk | Attitude: Redneck
You know, in most instances Daniel Bradford would be a starting defenseman on a Hapiloppian national team. But those "most instances" don't involve a pissed-off Ernie Stevenson fishing him out of a country and western bar having started a fistfight with some cowboy because Daniel had tried hooking up with his girl. And those "most instances" don't involve throwing a glass of whiskey at said cowboy because he said he was "one of them fancypants soccer players that can't line dance no good." What I guess we're saying is that Dan Bradford starts bar fights, he does stupid things, he's piss-poor at line dancing and he may or may not have told some lady to hit the floor when someone said it was time for a "hoedown," whatever the hell that means. Either way, his bad behavior cost him a starting spot on the Hapiloppian squad, but he might get it back if he does well enough.

Image
#22 - TIM STONE | Defenseman | Age: 23 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @tim_stone | Club: United Hampton Cities
Style of Play: Defensive Back | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Medium | Attitude: Calm
So, what do we put in for a player that doesn't really get in trouble, isn't considered a "football terrorist" and doesn't do anything that puts him on any most wanted lists or watch lists? What do we do for a football player who doesn't really have a lot of hobbies outside of playing football? I mean, we could write that Tim Stone is a great defensive player who can stop a goalscoring effort with ease, but damn, that's boring. We were writing that shit years ago when we introduced you to the Baptism of Fire squad. And damn, I guess that means Timmy Stone is boring as shit. He plays good football, he plays good defense, but he doesn't get in trouble, he doesn't do anything embarrassing and he doesn't make a complete ass of himself. Maybe he should get himself into card trouble more often - it might get him a starting spot on the national team.

Image
#23 - DAVID COLT | Defenseman | Age: 24 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @coltman60 | Club: West Hampton Sports Club
Style of Play: Centerback | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Antisocial
When we go out to interview players, their coaches and some fans for these short profile snippets about members of the Hapiloppian team, usually a trend comes about. Certain people will talk about how a certain player is just the nicest guy, or the fiercest competitor, or the best dressed, or someone they might not want to ride with on the highway. When we asked people about David Colt, their responses were just about the same. "He doesn't have friends," one person said. "He sits at the end of the bar, drinks his beer, and walks away when someone sits next to him. He speaks in monosyllables. His idea of a good time is to stand off to the corner, drink a beer and avoid every single person around him." One teammate suggested it's because he has a miniscule tolerance for bullshit; while another suggested he got stuffed in a locker in school by some guy.

Image
#24 - PETER HARDY | Defenseman | Age: 29 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @pete_hardy99 | Club: The Soldiers (Hapilopper City)
Style of Play: Defensive Back | Speed: Medium-Slow | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Goofball
Last year, the HFA announced, to the bewilderment of many, that kazoos had been outlawed from every single stadium where one of their matches were taking place. When asked why, Dom Probst, the head of the HFA, said "those that know, know. Those that don't, don't need to know." It turns out that Peter Hardy, a kazoo expert (for some reason), had been playing the kazoo in the clubhouse for weeks before the start of games, when Dom Probst, apparently looking for players for the national team, entered the room - while Hardy was playing some children's tune for the sixth time in a row. One player asked Probst to step in. Probst reportedly told Hardy that if he didn't stop with the kazoo, he'd take it from his hands and "ram it so far up your ass you won't even know what hit you." Hardy did exactly that. According to some reports, he is plotting to have the Hapiloppian National Anthem played by a bunch of kazoo players before a Campionato Esportiva match.

Image
#31 - KYLE NICHOLSON | Midfielder | Age: 26 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @kyle_nick | Club: Washington FC
Style of Play: Offensive Midfielder | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Medium | Attitude: Redneck
Pickup truck enthusiast Kyle Nicholson was a surprising selection to the Hapiloppian football squad, likely because of the constantly-poor standard of play from Washington FC, constant bottom-dwellers in the HFA standings and the one team everyone points as as the biggest argument in favor of introducing promotion and relegation into Hapiloppian football. But the one high point on that team is Kyle Nicholson, who impresses fans and experts alike with his strong play. In a recent game against Soldiers, where Washington was trounced 7-0, Nicholson was seen as the only reason they didn't get shut out 10-0. Some have said he is "the only reason Washington wins any games at all" and "if he was on another team, he'd be on a first-place team." Away from the pitch, Nicholson enjoys going off-roading on his lifted pickup truck.

Image
#32 - COLIN FINLEY | Midfielder | Age: 28 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (banned from twii.tur) | Club: Raceway FC
Style of Play: Hybrid Midfielder | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Drunk
You know, there is a such thing as too much of a good thing. Just ask Colin "Wild Dog" Finley, midfielder for Raceway Football Club in Buckridge, nicknamed not because of his wild standard of play, nor because of his tendency to visit the Laughing Dog Bar and Grill in nearby Kensington Town, but rather because of his love of Wild Dog, a form of cheap, fortified wine, also known as a "bum wine" - which you can get for $5 at the local liquor store or gas station. It's this love of Wild Dog that got him banned from multiple social media outlets a few months ago. As he got rip-roaringly drunk after a match, Finley let loose his opinions, which were a little too spicy for anyone's liking, and that got him kicked out. As for those opinions? We'll leave those out, and we'll let you look those up on your own time (and because I don't want to get DEAT'd for a roster post -Hap)

Image
#33 - RORY SCHUYLER | Midfielder | Age: 27 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @roaringrory | Club: West Hampton Sports Club
Style of Play: Hybrid Midfielder | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Asshole
Oh god, it's this guy. He exudes "douchebag" at every angle. He plays like a douchebag. He looks like a douchebag. He acts like a douchebag. He has hair like a douchebag. Three years in a row, he's won H-Sports Magazine "Guy You'd Like To Punch In The Face" award. Each of those years, he was nominated by one of his teammates. So, why does Rory Schuyler stay on the West Hampton Sports Club, and why did he get a spot on the national team? Because even if he's got the most punchable face in Hapiloppian sports, and even if Rod Cutt may physically introduce Rory's head to his ass by the time the Campionato Esportiva is over, he's still a damn fine midfielder, and still a crucial piece of any team's goalscoring effort, or any sort of defensive campaign that can stop a goal from being scored. That said, we think everyone is cheering for Rod to keel-haul this guy on live television.

Image
#34 - TRACY HUNTER | Midfielder | Age: 19 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @trace_hunter | Club: The Soldiers (Hapilopper City)
Style of Play: Offensive Midfielder | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Medium | Attitude: Professional
It's easy to spot Tracy Hunter outside of Capital Stadium in Hapilopper City. He's the guy that looked like he just stepped out of 1986. (Compared to most Hapiloppians, who look like they stepped out of 1996) That comes complete with mullet, aviator sunglasses, white suit jacket with the sleeves rolled up, black t-shirt underneath, blue acid-washed jeans and loafers with no socks, as he gets out of a 1980s Preston Skychief. It's also easy to spot Tracy Hunter inside Capital Stadium. He's the false nine for the team, scoring two dozen goals last year. He's one not getting in trouble, letting some of the hot dogs do that for him. The girls love him - and one recent magazine called Tracy "the sexiest schmuck in Hapiloppian soccer." He's on the bench, however, for the national team. Why? He's only 19 years old. Thom Perkins calls him "a starter for the future."

Image
#41 - TREVOR CRISP | Forward | Age: 25 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @crispy_trevor | Club: North Hampton FC
Style of Play: Center Forward | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Calm
Had Stan McLamb not stormed into the HFA offices demanding his spot as starting 11 back, Trevor Crisp would have had the role. Some say he's faster, some say he's better, many say he's less controversial. He scored 41 goals last year for North Hampton, including five in one match against Lake Sprague after their keeper, Fox Humbert, knocked his dumb ass out by faceplanting the goalpost for the third time that season. But what Crisp has going against him, as well as Ellis's love for McLamb, is his attitude. Many say he's not tough enough and he's not hungry enough to get past that hump that would make him the top striker in Hapiloppian football. Ernie Stevenson is reportedly not high on him either, largely because of that complacent attitude.

Image
#42 - CRAIG BLACKWOOD | Forward | Age: 23 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @thebeststriker | Club: United Hampton Cities
Style of Play: Artistic Goal Scorer | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Medium | Attitude: Obnoxious
Craig Blackwood calls himself the best goal scorer in all of Hapiloppian football. Everyone disagrees. He calls his celebrations the best in football. Everyone disagrees. He calls his goals the most beautiful in all of Hapiloppian football. Everyone disagrees. Sure, 29 goals is nothing to sniff at, but as Thom Perkins said, "he'd score 59 if he'd quit hot dogging all the time!" While Blackwood is seen as an annoying cuss who probably needs to get punched in the face a few times to get him to stop doing this shit, the reality is that he's got great potential as an international footballer, either in Hapilopper or beyond. And that's why Thom Perkins and Ernie Stevenson doesn't really have that much of a problem with him. While Trevor Crisp refuses to get better, Craig Blackwood wants to be the best, and that, to them, is a good thing.

Image
#60 - MANNY WAKEFIELD | Goalkeeper | Age: 24 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @manwake_60 | Club: Hapilopper City Highway Patrol
Style of Play: Sweeper Keeper | Speed: Slow | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Intense
Here's the thing about Manny Wakefield - he's a good guy, he does a lot of good in his community, but man, when you get him on the field, he becomes a bulldog. People have seen the fire in his eyes that demonstrates the intense focus he practices. And that focus pays off in spades, as Manny averages one goal allowed per 77 minutes of play - much lower than top-tier goalies from years past, but as "Funball" takes hold in Hapilopper, so too does increased goals. People are scoring goals like crazy, and that's had an impact on someone like Manny. Manny hates the fact that goal-scoring has gone up so much in Hapilopper, but he's going to have to make the most of it, or else. Away from the field, though, Manny enjoys a nice round of golf and talking to his friends about it - and when we say that, we mean he brags about hitting the green from the tee on the par-3 16th at Lake Eclipse Golf Club using his driver, which he says is justifiable because the hole was playing about 220.

#90 - FOX HUMBERT | Goalkeeper | Age: 21 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @fox_humbert | Club: Lake Sprague FC
Style of Play: Save and Pray | Speed: Slow | Physicality: Against the goalpost? Very heavy | Attitude: Clumsy
We introduce you to the reason Hapiloppian television networks put microphones in the goalposts in HFA matches, and why the HFA tracks the number of times players slam into the goalposts. That statistic, a bit cruelly, is called the "Fox," and Humbert led the league in Foxes with eleven last year. This tends to happen, for whatever reason. And this keeps happening. Humbert will - with reckless abandon - slam himself into players, the goalpost, and even an errant referee or photographer on occasion. Perhaps most hilariously, in a game against Highway Patrol last season, Humbert - for reasons unknown to us all - chased after the ball towards the corner kick area, jumped up, and when he landed, had that corner kick flag go right up his rear end. Don't ask us why.

To be on hiatus April 27 - October 17.

Tactics
Petrov is expected to field a aggressive attacking team with the flexibility to switch to more defensive setups.

With 4-2-4 formation, the team makes use of the wide areas of the field to initiate counterattacks along the flanks, especially when the opponent has a less populated backline. The fullbacks are key in this formation: they not only have to provide cover along the width of the field, but they also have to link up play from the back towards the midfield or wingers. During a buildup, the two defensive midfielders will tend to drop back to invite pressure from the opponents away from their goal. Wingers will roam around the middle of the field, making themselves open for a long pass. Usually, one of the forwards acts as a false nine (usually Demidov or Elmpt), moving deep into the field to receive the ball and passing it to the more advanced forward.

This takes advantage of teams with a high press as this gives ample space for the front 4 to launch an attack on the opposing goal. If the opponents defend deep, the two fullbacks will advance to the midfield to aid in attacking and penetrating the opponent defense. The wingers will then more to even more advanced positions.

A weakness of this setup is the defensive vulnerability, especially when the fullbacks advance further up the field. This opens the defense to counterattacks. Usually, one of the midfielders will drop back to aid the defense, but if the opponents are constantly a threat on goal, both fullbacks and midfielders will fall back and protect the goal.

Unlike Petrov, Markova elects to field a less attacking formation, with only one central striker.

Markova prefers fast, flowing football, so quick passes and counterattacks are part and parcel of her game. Do expect more inexperienced or tired players to give the ball away more often. The team relies on the wingers and fullbacks to control the wider parts of the pitch, especially since the wingers are more likely to cross the ball into the box than drive it into the center. The wingers tend to fall back to receive the ball rather than stay out in the opponent's third for high balls. The midfield is fluid and can switch between 2 CDM/1 CAM and vice versa depending on the opponents' philosophy. The default formation, however, includes two defensive midfielders and one attacking one. The backline tends to stay back during attacks, especially if the opposing attacker doesn't fall back into defense; fullbacks sometimes provide attacking support depending on the presence of the opposing winger.

This quick possession play allows for the team to quickly penetrate through defenses, especially those caught out by counterattacks. However, if the opposition plays a low block, the team can struggle to break through, and a boring display of possession ball might be played instead.

Distinctive Playstyles and Traits
Note: If a player isn't mentioned here just do whatever you want with them.
 • Zhvikov and Pintusevich tend to play as sweeper keepers.
 • Shikolenko likes to bait attackers with the ball and then dribble his way past. Unfortunately, his dribbling skills are not always the best.
 • Maximoff likes to launch long balls towards the other side of the pitch.
 • Moskalets and Obnizov tend to join the team during attacks, providing assistance to the wingers.
 • Tsyzyrev can be very aggressive especially when the team is losing or hanging onto a draw; it has cost him several penalties and cards.
 • Yuryev is a master of time wasting.
 • Andreyushkin more often than not loves to taunt opposing attackers. Sometimes it goes awry.
 • Entin has a tendency to leave his man when he sees an opportunity to steal the ball.
 • Ortega loves physical duels with the enemy winger. He can get a bit rough and his muscular stature means he wins duels easily.
 • Narozhylenko would rather square up with his opponent than keep an eye on the ball.
 • Khlebnikov can get carried away with physically bullying the opposing attacker.
 • Borisenko tends to stay with the defense instead of helping the attack.
 • Artemyev has poor stamina; don't expect him to run too often, let alone sprint.
 • Travkin is often caught offside because he starts his runs too early.
 • Voskresensky on the other hand can be too oblivious to notice himself being offside.
 • Umanov prefers driving into the centre with the ball instead of crossing it.
 • Borichevskiy cannot be trusted in 1-on-1 scenarios.
 • Olefskiy loves to waste time on the ball to the chagrin of both his opponents and teammates.
 • Zhikin loves to pull off moves with the ball instead of shooting it.
 • Demidov is often the receiver of corners due to his lumbering height.
 • Elmpt is very much prone to losing the ball under pressure. He also loves to dive after the slightest contact.
 • Lyapunov sometimes elects to shoot the ball wide instead of passing to a teammate who is wide open.

 • Leonova and Korneyeva tend not to leave their line, although Korneyeva comes out for 1-on-1 situations.
 • Antipova's sprints usually start off very explosive, but her pace dies off quickly.
 • Serebrova has a habit of being "lazy" whenever the ball isn't on her side of the pitch.
 • Menshikova has a flair for blocking shots, but a good portion of those shots come with handballs.
 • Grande and Dunayevskaya like to go against Markova's commands and join the team during corners; only Dunayevskaya has the pace to track back when counterattacked after.
 • Ryakhina gives the ball away easily when under pressure.
 • Barkova loves to charge at players while having the ball regardless of who she's squaring up with. Kazapova on the other hand would rather pass the ball than make a run.
 • Miloradova has a tendency to swear at anyone, whether it be teammates, opponents, or the referee. She has gotten into hot water over this quite a few times.
 • What do Mamykina and Shubina have in common? Having insane ball control they love to show off during games.
 • Do not be alarmed or surprised if you see Oborina sky a ball from 40 yards out.
 • Kuznetsova usually passes to the central striker than a wide player.
 • Sapogova will always pass when she sees an opportunity.
 • Never let Marin shoot.
 • Runova takes advantage of her size to weave in between defenders. Only problem is she would rather dribble than pass to an open player.
 • Rozhkova loves to pressure defenders on the ball, and her pace can be really intimidating especially as she charges towards you. Thankfully or not, she can't tackle a ball to save her life.
 • Pishchalnikova prefers high through passes from the centre of the pitch to the striker. However, she can be oblivious as to whether the striker is onside or not.
 • Semerikova loses the ball very easily, but she makes up for it by aggressively rushing the opponent with the ball.
 • Kuzenkova-Domínguez is an expert in diving even without contact, but she sometimes chooses to play through an actual injury she received during a match.

Stadia
Stade de Pruxxé, Pruxxé, Karnerkarnen, Doubeia
Capacity: 87,154 seats

Harriott Loft, Ethelfled, Russeland, Doubeia
Capacity: 61,050 seats

Note: Both stadii will be used for home games and will alternate every home matchday. The first home match will be played at Stade de Pruxxé.

Fan Culture
Despite Doubeia's recent independence, national cameraderie is strong, especially amongst Doubeinese supporters. Fans tend to try to intimidate the opponents and their supporters using fan chants and instruments such as drums, horns and gongs. There is a subset of supporters called the Rockers who usually perform in front of the fans before a game. The Rockers use electric guitars, drum sets and violins to hype up the Doubeinese supporters.

Tifos resembling the Doubeinese flag or one of the players are occasionally put up.

Doubeinese fans usually make a loud ruckus outside the stadium before and after matches. Bars nearby the stadium tend to fill up pretty quickly while fans parade along the boulevard leading to the stadium. After losses, Doubeinese fans tend to be more riled up and can get violent especially in response to mockery from the opposing supporters.

Notices
 • The Men's and Women's National Team alternate every matchday. The Women's NT will kick off on matchday 1.
 • I will usually post the lineup for the upcoming matchday at the bottom of my RP post. If I didn't feel free to pick whoever you like.

Amahne (Aminey) - Stade sur la Baie (70000) - home to Aminey CS (and the Aminey Caspians, Aminey Buffaloes, and Aminey Owls).
The flagship stadium, huge production values, the works. Azure-coloured seating under canvas roofing. A beautiful circular stadium built in foreign Classical traditions.

Shemurdar (Schemerdrecht) - Orange Bowl (54000) - home to Schemerdrecht SVV (and the Schemerdrecht Admirals).
More associated perhaps with the Admirals than the SVV, but it's nearly always sold out venue for great crowds in any sport. A robust, somewhat boring square monster with little attention paid to its external looks.

Maethoru (Maethoru) - Rikalathen Arena (39000) - home to Maethoru SC (and Mayara Wanderers-Vulpecula).
Close to the KFA's training grounds, at least it has that going for it. Crowds are a little quieter here than elsewhere. A pristine pitch with seating in a few shades of green matching the field, all seating covered.

Ethuweri (Étouille) - Stade Amandine (30000) - home to Tanques AOE (and the Etouille Vultures).
Some amazing drone shots over a stadium, a city, and a crowd that knows what makes life fun. Extremely sponsor-friendly with its skybox layout, at the cost of the view of some nosebleeds.

Thelesra (Santa Teresa) - Estádio Fortaleza (29000) - home to Miradela GD (and the Santa Teresa Sabres).
Made to be exactly 1000 seats larger than their rivals' stadium, the Fortaleza is the upper-class stadium. They tried to make it look old and well-used with a specific standing-only section, but even there the privilege is palpable.
OR
Thelesra (Santa Teresa) - Estádio Marítimo (28000) - home to Branvon CD.
The working class stadium that is, in all facets, a bit inferior to the Fortaleza. Except the crowds. There's no better stadium for wild crowds. Plenty of standing-only areas, no cover, barely making it through inspections.

Monrama (Maynard) - Armskirk Municipal Ground (26000) - home to Maynard AFC.
The unlucky Maynard team have asked the KFA to have their stadium used by the national team - as the only southwestern stadium. The Armskirk isn't a bad stadium by all means, but some of the creative decisions in seating arrangements haven't paid off.

Katahshi (Katashi) - Suzumebachi Stadium (25000) - home to Katashi-Kanatsu.
The biggest stadium in the east, Katahshi deserves a game. The fans will mostly just cheer for eastern players, though. It's a wonderfully modern and digital stadium - the first with screens going all around the place.

Garihnkatar (Greencaster) - Golhampton Grounds (25000) - home to Sydberg Olympia.
Garihnkatar never had a big football culture, but that's changed, and the local Olympia have kept pace with the hype. Biggest city in the country, too. It feels like a much bigger stadium than it is, with plenty of options for later enlargement.

Ehbanna (Aevanna) - Northern Arena (32000) - home to university team 'Aevanna Ecologiske Universitet'.
The KFA wants some games geographically spread across the country, and so the cold, dark, and cold gridiron Northern Arena is on the list. The largely roofed stadium is partially dug in to prevent the Arena from dominating the skyline.

Alahrenna (Alara) - Spider Stadium (27100) - home to Advance Alara.
Eastern but not on the island Katahshi's on. Fans are used to seeing a lot of goals - which the Dragonflies don't do. The stadium has a lot of staggered mini-sections, make of that what you will.

Seterdahn (Straudum) - Hazel Arena (25400) - home to Straudum VV.
Biggest stadium in the northeast, as far as the mainland goes. Straudum's style matches the NT's style perfectly. Propped up by the massive (rich) IT sector. It's still sold out more often than not as one of the better stadium experiences out there.

Gilibehri (Eaglebury) - Uriagali Field (18000) - home to WSR AFC and Pride of Eaglebury.
Biggest/only stadium on the west coast. Gilibehri has an amazing, flourishing sports culture and it's no longer completely ignored by the other 99% of the country. The stadium boasts an impressive view of the mountains.

1 GK Edou Bittencourt (36) - Miradela GD
11 GK Carl Malmstroom (34) - Tanques AOE
21 GK Meldon Crewby (23) - Maynard AFC
31 GK Galorian Antair (20) - Maethoru SC

Old meets young in our group of goalies. Bittencourt remains the number one choice, despite age, despite Miradela's relegation - he's looking for a new Top League club to ply his trade: he's not done yet even if he hoped to retire from Miradela. It wasn't to be. Bittencourt has enough youth left in him, as his unpredictable style suggests but expects his defence to operate predictably as per the game plan. Malmstroom is the likely backup, a great goalkeeper on the line but the further away from the back line, the worse he seems to get. As for the youngsters, Crewby has the height, the dependency, but isn't there in terms of 'making it look easy' the way the veterans do. Antair is an incredible talent, currently at Maethoru, closing down the distance towards attackers in a 1-on-1 in seconds. Explosive, but lacks decision making - he's 20.

2 RB Folkert Nieuwboom (23) - New Volendam, KMJ
12 RB Sissigul Zulambee (21) - Straudum VV
22 RB Min-Ji Pae (29) - Aminey CS

Nieuwboom quickly earned the starting job but he might not be on the longest of leashes: the New Volendam defender is friendly and pacy but the new meta under Manguele is to go for players who excel in small spaces, which is more Pae's cup of tea. Pae, on her second or third callup, played her way into the staff's good graces and why wouldn't she? Near perfect in small spaces, very well defensively, not the easiest of personalities but alright. Zulambee is a perfect Straudum disciple: tactical, distant, but no longer in vogue.

3 CB Lei yGorllaeneal (23) - Dí Maozöxê, FFD
13 CB Abi Lavaud (31) - Damogran, SRS
23 CB Egesa Aedil (26) - Katashi-Kanatsu
33 CB Justaes de Groene (21) - Straudum VV

4 CB Keiki Todaka (22) - Urrheddiao, CMT
14 CB Aoremis Aelea (31) - Holdenberg, EUR
24 CB Adam Archer (33) - Fuchou, NIX
34 CB Munetoki Shichi (24) - Gehrenna FC

5 CB Harmon Mulvahil (34) - Alameda Desperados, CAD
15 CB Conrat Loper (22) - Schemerdrecht SVV
25 CB Niniaw yLleamaid (29) - Dury FC, PFA
35 CB Jubenar Mallerbury (35) - Zilverstraat SC, TSA

Three starting spots, and they're not as set in stone as you think. That is, outside of Todaka, who's established himself as the cement in the backline during and after the Manguele takeover. He's been nothing but positive about the system and his teammates. To his sides we're expecting yGorllaeneal and Mulvahil: the former just getting established and learning the system right there in Farfadillis as the jocky, competitive-slash-combative defender, the latter as one of the oldest choices out there - but given it's Ko-oren you're going to need some older element in there. Mulvahil's always been a little antithetical to the old 5-4-1 with his mad dashes forward, but it's right for the system now.

Behind them we can see Lavaud, a quiet understudy with all the talent to succeed - even at 31 - but without the reckless competitiveness we've come to expect from our players. Aelea's the smallest of the group but incredibly fast and very useful if we ever play a high line, which happens quite a bit these days to keep the passing lanes short. Loper has been knocking on the door for a year or three now and he'll get his minutes but for now he's not the positive factor Todaka is (his short temper well documented). The thirds - Aedil, Archer, yLleamaid - are all more the passing type and in Archer's case, at nearly two metres, also an aerial threat. The fourths - De Groene, Shichi, Mallerbury - are unlikely to get much time, but Mallerbury is useful to have around given height and experience, Shichi's mentality, and De Groene's just a choice for the future.

6 LB Theklen Senothonnau (21) - Straudum VV
16 LB Emi van Kalvenhaar (35) - Urrheddiao, CMT
26 LB Obadiah Gillinghurst (27) - Pria City, CMT
36 LB Kaneyoshi Kaji (26) - Katashi-Kanatsu

Senothonnau is very hard to leave out of the team. What a form, what a talent, genuinely the best player of his generation as far as we can tell for now. A true professional with eye for how to improve himself and the players around him, too. Van Kalvenhaar, at 35, is hard to defend at the demanding position but she's still so damn good, even at a slightly slower pace. Better passing accuracy than just about anyone with an eye for the best options. Gillinghurst and Kaji seemingly have been sidetracked a bit, but that's not a huge surprise. Gillinghurst is bubbly and happy to be a part of whatever comes next, however Kaji isn't liking his role right now. He's made no mistakes, stayed with a club that already played Manguele football, and yet he wasn't given the nod. What gives?

Image
7 DM Olikek Azerhendhen (22) - Raynor City United, VAL
17 DM Hixinio Andrade (22) - Miradela GD
27 DM Ngjunei Meigun (19) - Gehrenna FC

Three wonderful players. Andrade's looking for a new club given the Miradela debacle, Azerhendhen's signed his dream contract with Raynor City United, and Meigun's just getting started at one of the better clubs for young players. All three about equally talented but Azerhendhen is a little more developed, with a mean sprint - that he rarely gets to use at his position but trust us - while the other two are lead-by-example types and by 'example', we mean 'eliminating opponents from an attack' by nearly all means necessary.

19 RM Noryu Wullyu (25) - Lhor, CMT

Tall and strong, not the pacy winger you'd expect but he's fast enough.

8 CM Purelbusak Entatingun (29) - Scott City FC, DAR
18 CM Annefleur Nakasarudhen (18) - Maethoru SC

Entatingun's the undisputed core of the team. Always where he needs to be and always delivering pinpoint passes. Nakasarudhen has a while to go before getting the same notoriety, but she's incredibly hard to pin down and eliminate from a passage of play. Tenacious, quite small, and a hell of a brain, Entatingun's got a job to keep his spot - or have two CMs.

9 LM Amand Mathey (21) - Aminey CS
29 LM Shutel Tehinnau (26) - Maethoru SC

On the other wing it's not very different: Mathey's one of the tallest of the gang but he's remarkably technical about it, using his height to direct the ball even in small spaces - so there's always the third dimension in the passing game that opponents won't always be able to defend or prevent. Tehinnau's is a more tactical approach, a student of the game, and lethal in the relationist passing game though he's sometimes a little ahead of his teammates in his thinking.

X AM Teiichi Tsuchimoto (26) - Ousevale Borough, KRY

Doesn't always take this thing too seriously and honestly the team's better for it. Deep down he knows his influence on the team and that his coolness has a calming effect on the rest - so there's some theatre to him. Sets the pace of the attack too.

1X ST Toshitsugu Hiraide (21) - Katashi-Kanatsu
2X ST Rex Archer (33) - Aminey CS
29 ST Dornared yOraenaig (26) - Sporting Noordende, CNR
39 ST Aomoca Aenenolin (23) - Pesfield Trees, SYL

= ST Aurin Aomelirea (32) - Revolutionaries, EUR
1= ST Matane Mamannau (27) - Maynard AFC

Largely divided into two groups: target men/poachers/finishers and drop-backers. The former have the striker numbers (ending in =), the latter have midfield numbers (ending in 7, 8, 9, X).

Hiraide has the height for a target man but the movement of a midfielder, but clearly excels when he can set up his teammates for scoring positions. Archer's the prime drop-back striker, but doesn't have the speed to then stretch the defence and run in behind as well, unless the team can set up a trick. Still, he can get his teammates to adopt better positions to create goals - or at least chances. yOraenaig typically supports from the back but he's quite lethal in front of goal. Aenenolin is the only one who could have been in either group. He is where the team needs him - or where the team can find him - and directs the attack much like our various defensive midfielders arrange the defence in transition.

Aomelirea has been at the grind for a while and it shows. Tall-ish, he's at his best when he's the one pulling the trigger, making him slightly more of a poacher than anything. Mamannau is so powerful on and off the ball and can scramble some weird shots on target from weird positions.

Image
We play post-football, a term coined during World Cup 89 to put words to a horrible semifinal between Audioslavia and the Dragonflies, which ended 0-0 after 120 minutes, then all but one penalty was scored in the ensuing series. Post-football means no singing. No cheering. No scoring. Post-football is sideways passes, looking like the same, repetitive movements for minutes on end, but with tiny variations that at some point will get to you. It could be a counterattack, or a shot from distance, or a set piece. Post-football doesn't care if it takes 90 or 120 minutes, or more. Under Juliasterinthen and Davenport, the Ko-orenites earned a reputation as the perfectly positioned, tactical-yet-mean defensive team. Containing, capitalising, exploiting. Patience and countering.

Under Lele Manguele, an era that started just before CAFA 7 in cycle 94, we're breaking with traditions. Still targeted at preventing goals, the team instead tries to retain possession for as long as possible, in small, compact spaces, merging relationism with tenacious defence, for what that's worth and to what extent that's possible. Relations between individual players are now more important than retaining perfect structure. That means that the midfield will forgo most of their roles, and that the defence will break the line to help the passing game.

Image
Numbers 1 to = typically start (but not always, feel free to choose your starters). That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, X, and =.
Numbers 1-1= are typically selected as starters or subs (but not always, feel free to select some 23+-ers as subs or starters).
Numbers 20 and over are mostly there as emergency replacements, but can be part of the squad for some games. These are almost always younger players with a lot of promise.

Selection Priority: Outside of Lige 1 is priority with a few exceptions. Starting lineup changed to hopefully solidify the defense even with the style of play.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Style Mod: +3

Stadiums:
Parc De Nasional (55000): Fully repaired and plays host to Tasse Du Auprussia Finals after the conclusion of Lige 1's 5th season. The venue has started to slowly make a comeback in modern times. Striga, the district this stadium is in has also come into an economic boon recently.

Parc d'Auprus (45000): Home to a rejuvenated Auprussia NF located in the Cenviesse district of Auprus by a marine research facility it was one of the few stadiums not affected by the financial money pit that was Lige PRO. Fans come by boat to observe the marine life nearby the research facility or they come by train which drops them off right in front of the stadium.

Coeur de Sassen Alexia (60000): Another stadium owned by a Lige 1 club, the newly promoted but very old powerhouse Alexia. Founded in the Alexia-Roswulfe district it has a "unique" contingent of fans who travel by horse like the old Sassen merchants used to do. The newer Sassen merchants just prefer to move their goods by trucks or trains and sell them in the biggest market in Auprussia.

This is where we usually get a shortish text chronicling how The Dandelions have fared the last couple of cycles. Unfortunately the PUFF intern who writes these blurbs have been holidaying with his extended family in the west of Gnejs the last couple of weeks and neglected to pre-write anything. So, let’s not complicate things and just state that the team continues to sport their familiar 4-3-3 formation, with a relatively high defensive line combined with high pressing by the forwards (known as Stoic Press), and valley man Enda Clentin is still at helm from a comfortable distance. Expectations are modest, mostly because few have awakened from the summer slumber and are only tangentially aware a WCQ is about to kick off. If anything, let’s just hope we don’t get done by those pesky Vdarans again.

About the Prosaic Union

The Prosaic Union of Gnejs – commonly abbreviated PUG, colloquially called 'The Union', often nicknamed 'The Rock' – is a country located in the far north-east of Rushmore. A constant source of bewilderment for many, the name Gnejs comes from the native word for the type of metamorphic rock called gneiss in English and German. The root of the word is believed to derive from the High German gneist, meaning roughly 'spark', the link being that the rock glitters. Gneiss is a common rock type across the territory making up the modern-day nation and has historically been a readily used building material component.

A vast and sparsely populated land, The Union covers about 1 220 000 square kilometres and has a population of just under 16 million. It is divided into four big regions – Berg (north), Birka (east), Ängby (west) and Vika (south) – which in turn are divided into counties and municipalities. The Interior compromises an immense area of more or less untouched wilderness at the heart of the country's inland and covers parts of all four regions. The capital city is called Port Kejm and is located on the coast in the region of Birka.

People in general are quiet and reserved. While idle small talk without purpose amongst strangers might be considered appropriate and expected some places, in The Union it is usually frowned upon and considered bothersome. The native tongue is called 'Gnejsian' (native: gnejsiska) and has a long and rich history. There's an abundance of regional dialects, some so distinct from others that many have suggested they really constitute different – albeit strongly related – languages. It is common to divide the many dialects into three different 'families', north-eastern (OOC: Norwegian), western (OOC: Swedish) and southron (OOC: Danish). Children learn English (known in The Union as 'the common tongue') from the age of five, and the population at large is generally considered to be fluent.

OSSIDIACQUA, roster for WORLD CUP 97
Nation Name: The Former Oasirican Republic of Ossidiacqua
Demonym: Acquans
Team Nickname: La Selezzione

KIT COLOURS:
AWAY - HOME (w/ Reverse) - KEEPER

HOME STADIUM:
Il Colosseo
- 103,450 (Sant'Elia)

IC INFORMATION:
Right. Where do you even start with Ossidiacqua?

Once upon a time, Ossidiacqua was actually Oasirica. A rich, and abundantly resourced land populated by cultured, intelligent, and proud people. And then they were hit by La Plaga; a devastating and deadly epidemic that swept across the nation with impunity. Ravaging the native Oasirican population but leaving the communities of freed Djocorangan slaves alone thanks to an apparent quirk of genetics, it looked set to decimate the population. Arrogantly proclaiming that all they needed to find a cure was time, the best scientists and doctors of the nation locked themselves inside the central hospital of Sant'Elia and proceeded to set up a time-wall around them; the aim being to give them ample 'frozen' time to develop a cure for La Plaga on the inside, with minimal casualties outside in the real world. Thanks to their hubris however, the time-wall went wrong. Instead of going around the hospital, it went around the entire nation. And so, decimation was exactly what happened.

Once upon another time, when the time-wall dissipated, Oasirica had been replaced by Ossidiacqua. While 27 weeks passed outside, 270 years passed inside. Entire generations of families lived and died, and La Plaga only stopped sweeping once all those susceptible had died, leaving only a handful of native Oasiricans with natural immunity and the Djocorangan 'immigrants', who were now the dominant ethnicity in the nation. The entire nation is now descended from these two groups. The land was no longer lush. With the atmosphere cut off from the rest of the region by the time-wall, the usual water cycle was interrupted, and so the lands were ravaged by drought and lack of moisture, with the only water coming from springs which bubbled up through abundant obsidian deposits, giving the new nation its name. Additionally, the people were now fearful of technology, giving rise to an odd period of time where silicon chips were banned, knowledge was lost, and only 'tech-priests' knew how to operate the evaporators, condensers, and rudimentary technology that gave the nation their drinking water. It was a religion devoted to understanding as little as possible of the life-saving technology they all feared but needed to survive. It was... complicated.

Once upon another another time, technophiles rose up. Declaring themselves sick of Ossidiacqua's fear of taking their place in the world, they staged an attempted coup with the outside help of Djocoranga, and aimed to put their own people in charge. The plan was scuppered slightly by the Djocorangans also aiming to do just that, as well as the discovery of the temporal properties of the mineral deposit called erchite. Found only in Ossidiacqua, its ability to amplify and loop all types of energy on a temporal level was eventually discovered to be the cause of the original time-wall mishap in Sant'Elia. Sadly, this discovery came too late to stop another mishap, and the nation descended into another series of time-slips.

Once upon another another another time, then it was now.

The tech-priests have become somewhat more tech-savvy, and are able to give the people of Ossidiacqua a more or less 'normal' life, so long as you don't mind the odd spoiler or extreme case of deja-vu. However, keeping that temporal dimension stable long enough to allow people to leave the nation and then come back has proved somewhat trickier. So it is that visitors to the nation take their existence into their own hands, and people willing to make the trip abroad likewise.

Until now, that is.

By introducing a way of tranferring temporal properties of the land and geography to the people itself, we think - we think - we have managed to find a way to allow Acquans to travel abroad without coming home to find everyone has aged differently to them. As well as eliminating the risk to foreigners' existence when they visit the nation - so long as they don't mind watching a few moments of fast forwarding and rewinding happening around them - this means the Acquan national football team, La Selezzione, having tested it 'successfully' at bothe the Brevity Cup and Copa Rushmori, should be able to play in the World Cup Qualifiers with hopefully minimal disruption, and to pick up where the poor excluded Senzatetto left off.

Of course, this doesn't come without some risks. So, there are a few rules to follow when playing against the Acquan side. The technology to reduce the time-slips has been successfully reduced to the size of an erchite embedded bracelet, with copper nodes that have to dig into the flesh at all times. So there may be some oozing involved. You should never tamper with this. You may think that by giving it a nudge you might be able to flick the person marking you at a corner into slow-motion for a bit, allowing you to score, but actually, it is far more likely that yo->/ /<-okay? Good.

If this holds, we may finally see Acquans playing abroad again, but if it doesn't? Well. Who knows. The important thing to remember, is that->/

STAFF:
Manager: Kossi Gentili, 58
Replacing Innocent Bianchi, the man he also replaced as manager of CA Conquistadores, Kossi Gentili is a one-man tribute act to the man he replaces. So, don't expect any change of formation or tactic. What you should expect, however, is a shade more pragmatism, with Gentili far more happy to ask his team not to be quite so foolhardy in attack. Then again, this is Acquan football, so these are relative terms, really.

Gentili has also been forced to cast his gaze overseas, with Acquans earning a living playing football abroad for the first time in, well, again, relative term...

Nonetheless, there is one main thing that Gentili has learned from Bianchi's time in charge of the national teams and that's simply, is to make sure th->/

Assistant Manager: Yves Pasinetti, 45
Star striker of the first Conquistadores side that Bianchi managed to the top of the A-Liga, he also played for and won trophies with AS Débardeurs Nationale and Magisterio AC before retiring. He instantly moved into coaching and found work at Caballeros, Qolo-Qolo, Condensadores, Atletico, and Internazionale, before finding his way back to becoming assistant manager at Conquistadores to Gentili. As one of the few people respected and liked enough to be able to bridge the normally partisan walls between the big Acquan clubs and still remain loved by all, Bianchi very wisely 'borrowed' Pasinetti, and Gentili made that move permanent when he took the reins. Accordingly, he will be able to offer political, emotional, pastoral, and attacking support for the team. Just so long as he manages not to->/ /<-erwise we're stuffed.

PLAYERS:
SWEEPER-KEEPERS
#1* - SK - Oscar Macaluso - Age 34 - CA Conquistadores
#12 - SK - Emile Fofana - Age 40 - Qolo-Qolo
#13 - SK - Giacomo Palumbo - Age 28 - Koppen Rig Force (PIS)
Oscar Macaluso might not actually be the best shot-stopper in the A-Liga, but with Bianchi's system being so reliant on the goalkeeper, it isn't that much of a surprise to see him opt for the keeper in the league that knows said system the best as his number one choice. Emile Fofana has been Nationale first choice keeper for almost twenty years and so he brings a wealth of experience with him into the squad despite his announcement of impending retirement, whilst Palumbo is there to act as a more conservative option shoul->/

BACKS
#2* - FB - Paulo Bertolucci - Age 28 - Red Star Severny (PIS)
#3* - FB - Fernando Mbadinuju - Age 23 - Internazionale
#6 - HB - Moses Vecchio - Age 24 - De Tike FC (TXH)
#8* - HB - Ayegbeni Velasquez - Age 29 - North Star Grímsey (PIS) - CAPTAIN
#22 - FB - Junior Cavatta - Age 22 - Shakerssen (TXH)
#23 - FB - Eduardo Ochoa - Age 26 - CA Conquistadores
With only three players expected to hold any sort of defensive duties in this squad, the bulk of the responsibility for stopping goals is left to these three. It used to be the case that a Velasquez had to be the captain of the national side. It was an odd rule, but then, Ossidiacqua was an odd place back then. Still is, in fact. So it'll come as no surprise to most to see another Velasquez captaining this reborn side. Except for the fact that this Velasquez is completely unrelated to the dynasty that came before him. Apparently there was nothing in the rules about it being the same family after all, so, Ayegbeni Velasquez takes the armband. Sitting behind him but equally looking to push forward when they can, will be Bertolucci and Mbadinuju, whom A-Liga fans enjoyed seeing clash explosively at corner routines, until both moved to Divisjon One. Junior Cavatta will be looking to make an impression from the bench should he make an appearance, especially as->/

WING-UNITS
#4* - WBR - Esteban Iweala - Age 26 - Novaya Sibir Reds (PIS)
#5* - WBL - Noah Cannizzaro - Age 30 - CA Conquistadores
#7* - AMR - Kokou Belmondo - Age 23 - SK Aasiaat Harbour (PIS)
#10* - AML - Manuel Corbelli - Age 26 - Motor Waallen (TXH)
#11* - WFL - Moses Menicossa - Age 23 - Resolute Storm 1913 FC (PIS)
#20 - WFR - Kossi Pachecho - Age 27 - Atletico Sant'Elia
#14 - AML - Kofi Medici - Age 22 - SK Nasjonale Hauker (PIS)
#15 - AMR - Florent Piovani - Age 34 - Caballeros CF
#16 - WBR - Blessing Viadani - Age 32 - Marylebone Invicta (TFI)
#17 - WBL - Simone Fiorentino - Age 31 - CA Conquistadores
#18 - WFL - Yves Doumani - Age 28 - Condensadores CD
#19* - WFR - Ezekiel Caccianemici - Age 29 - Marylebone Esprit (TFI)
Making up the two ‘wing-units’ of Bianchi’s tactical scheme will be Iweala, Belmondo, and Caccianemici on the right, and Cannizzaro, Corbelli, and Menicossa on the left. As stated, these trios will largely be able to deputise and switch in and out for each other as their attacks move down the wing, so don’t be surprised if you see Caccianemici hanging back wide right whilst Belmondo and Iweala complete a one-two in the box. The aim is to create overloads wherever possible, and then to either open up a shooting opportunity for themselves or to leave a simple finish for the centre-forward or opposite wide-forward cutting in across the box. The units are designed to work independently of each other, but cross-field passes will of course happen – often at the direction of the players in central spine, usually the half-back. Most importantly however, will be ensuring that th->/

CENTRE-FORWARDS
#9 - CF* - Massimiliano Kone - Age 30 - Qolo-Qolo - VICE-CAPTAIN
#21 - CF - Marc-Emile Vanegas - Age 25 - Vitesse Karbijnhavn (SKB)
Aside from the goalkeeper, this is the most specialised role in the system Bianchi likes to play, as the role of Kone and Vanegas in this side is to do nothing more than put the ball in the goal. That’s it. In a squad where players are moving here and there, swapping in and out, and basically operating under a total football mindset, only the keepers and these guys will be expected to stay where they are. Lethal finishers both, expect to see Kone use his broad frame and low centre-of-gravity to bully defenders off the ball, whilst Vanegas is more likely try and break the lines with a well-timed run. Famously, should they ever play at the same time, watch out for a trick they learned when they were both at Caballeros together; basically, Kone runs thro->/

Penalty Taker: Ayegbeni Velasquez/Massimiliano Kone/Kokou Belmondo
Free Kick Taker: Kokou Belmondo/Moses Menicossa/Esteban Iweala
Corner Taker: Esteban Iweala/Noah Cannizzaro/Kokou Belmondo

The Acquan game has been cut off from the rest of the multiverse for over 300 years, cumulatively, and as such developed has a unique flavour and style of its own. Short passes, keeping possession, and running are the key to the majority of play, with Acquan teams keen to instil a sense of duty in their players that leads to any of them being able to play or deputise in any other position during the course of a match. The players are very capable with the ball, and have developed tricks and flicks enough to bamboozle any opponent - way, way ahead of their time as far as the rest of the multiverse is looking at it. However, they always had much to learn about the way the rest of the footballing community plays the game, and with the Acquan game developing a far higher tolerance for rough and tumble, even the silkiest of attacking forwards can find themselves sent off for an illegal tackle that would have been perfectly legal in the Acquan leagues. Therefore, it would be of great help to me if you could RP my team as technically gifted, but tactically naive, and as far as international standards go, incredibly violent. Thank you. The other main difference in the ways the team will play is their reliance on a goalkeeper to be the main starting point of attacks. If there isn't an opportunity for an instant break, players will cycle the ball back to the goalkeeper, and if you don't look out fo->/ /<-n most cases will result in a goal for la Selezzione.

On the other hand, defensively, it's a bit of a mess. La Selezzione won't mind conceding goals, they'll be too busy focusing on scoring more than you do to care too much about the back line. Attack is the best form of defence, and all that. However, if you want to take us on tactically, the best way to play against Acquan international sides and get a result remains, as it always was, to make sure you neutrali->/ /<-ow it always used to work, anyway.

The OFA steadfastly refuse to comment on links between the Acquans' natural tactical style and that of Farfadillis.

STAFF:
Manager: Federico Aalto, 55 Image
Record in Charge: P 25, W 6, D 5, L 14, GF 45, GA 60, GD -15, WP 24.0%
A True Valhallan, Federico Aalto is still adjusting to his relatively new role as manager of the Terns, having been promoted from assistant after the sacking of Iosef Miroshnichenko. For more information on the politics of how this came about, please see the spoiler at the bottom of this roster.

Football-wise, Aalto's Külmsaari background means we're seeing a dramatic shift from the dirge served up by Miroshnichenko, as Aalto shapes the team in his own image and attempts to overhaul the image of the side that the last manager inflicted upon the Multiverse; an image was probably Aalto's only genuine source of frustration with his former boss. Saari football is relentlessly attacking, and Aalto is going to practice what he preaches. Expect lop-sided line-ups, plenty of attacking intent, and a determination to fit the best players into whatever formation that dictates. Players will swap positions, be expected to run harder than they ever have done before, and operate with a strict direction in mind: forwards.

He had a bit of a nightmare start to his tenure at his first Copa in charge, and World Cup Qualifying didn't really go much better. The Cup of Harmony ushered in a change of pace however, with it starting to look at last like the players are catching on to his methods, and a run to the quarter-finals was no less than they deserved. Even more importantly for the team's mentality however, was their ability to not just win in their final group stage match when they needed to, but to win handsomely; smashing Sarzonia by five goals to one. This marked the first time since returning to the international scene that the Terns made it out of the group stage after several chokes on the final matchday, and it was a trend that Aalto was keen to keep pushing in the right direction at the most recent Copa. So it's a shame his unexperience squad let him down slightly on the pitch. Or, rather, was his selection all wrong? Either way, he's brought back some of the more experienced heads into his squad this time around in order to try and right those wrongs.

For how long his stock remains high is anyone's guess, and Lund and the OO will no doubt be watching and waiting to see if they can take advantage of any situation that may drop into their laps.

Assistant Manager: Rudolf Boettner, 49 Image
A True Valhallan, Rudolf Boettner has joined the Terns after serving in the backroom staff at Surtsey Island Gulls for the best part of a decade, and replaces the newly installed Jan Mayen manager, Einar Jepsen, in the Terns assistant seat. Something of an unknown name in the Federation despite this decade of service, his relative lack of notoriety can probably be put down to a lifetime of being as unremarkable as possible. Somehow managed to notch up almost three hundred appearnces for the Gulls at centre-back, his expertise in coaching the defensive side of the game, as well as his total and utter lack of personality is thought to be what attracted the super-attacking and, let's face it, slightly chaotic Aalto to give him the call. Without any risk of him dragging any drama with him, Aalto can relax and focus on his complicated attacking drills, safe in the knowledge that Boettner will have the defenders shipshape in no time. Until Aalto starts pinching the wing-backs to treat them as attackers, anyway...

PLAYERS:
#1 - GK - Hans Aigner - Age 32 - Image Tihon (CMT) Image - 62 Caps
A True Valhallan and a truly safe pair of hands. The Terns might not have covered themselves in glory since their return to international football, but without Aigner in the goalmouth, things could have been a whole lot worse. Has proved himself over and over for the Terns when he was so often the different between a one-nil win and something far less satisfying. Still with a few years left in the tank, especially for a goalkeeper, Aigner is nonetheless well aware that there are two very gifted goalkeepers on the bench right now that are just itching to unseat him from the role that has been his for so long, last Copa aside, and he's doubled down on the training field accordingly. In fact, so keen is he to remain at the top of his game that he's left the disorganised and underperforming surroundings of East Franz Athletic to take an opportunity with Chromatik giants Tihon. Time will tell as to how successful this will prove, but he's sure to come back into the squad with renewed energy.

#2 - D/WBR - Johannes Braun - Age 33 - Image Damogran (SRS) Image -58 Caps, 4 Assists, 1 Goal
A True Valhallan, Braun's emergence as a right-back in the same mould of the legendary Moses Luc Bjerregaard can be traced back to the money that Nasjonale Hauker invested in their youth academy following their hot streak of league titles. He may have moved on to pastures new, but he's still a young lad from the East End at heart. Lightning quick, he sacrificed a promising track career to concentrate on football, and his pace more than makes up for his lack of pure tactical awareness. Was made a bit of a scapegoat for fans of both the Terns and Hauker in the past, but he's re-found his form since he signed on the dotted line for Damogran, and with Makkinen not exactly covering himself in glory at the Copa, waltzes back into the starting XI.

#3 - D/WBL - Jalmari Hagen - Age 25 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 27 Caps, 4 Assists, 2 Goals
A True Valhallan, Jalmari Hagen's stock just keeps on rising. With his eye-catching strength and inherent star quality, if he played for anyone else you might have said he was the kind of player who was sure to end up playing for SK. He just seems to 'fit' there, so it's a rare win for the SK academy that they've managed to produce a player that's perfect for them already. Fast, direct, physical, and with a deft touch, Hagen is everything a modern Valhallan full-back should be. Aalto is all about the attacking, yes, but this just places more personal responsibility on the defenders to be able to defend when called upon, particularly on the left side of defence where the requirements to be buccaneering is less onerous. Fortunately, Hagen is perfectly adept at that too. Just try dribbling round him. I dare you. Despite his years, is already one of the leading figures in the SK dressing room.

#4 - DC - Aapo Miroshnichenko - Age 27 - Image Tikariot City FC (TKT) Image - 49 Caps
A True Valhallan, and yes, the former manager's son. He is actually good, though. Really good. Assuming he eclipses his father and manages to live up to the expectations that many hold for him, then a very bright future awaits indeed, although, at this age, you'd hope for that to come sooner rather than later... Was a runner-up at DBC55 and won a place in the starting line-up of the Terns as a result; a position he's been in and around ever since, including 're-ousting' Olsen from the position after the last Copa, and doing the same to Ernst after the most recent one. He just keeps coming back; as uninspiring as he might look on the pitch, he apparently brings something that no other defender has managed to replace just yet. Except maybe Ohm, but we can't play him twice in the same line-up, so. There used to be a sense that 'young Aapo' wasn't quite ready to take on the Multiverse, but that's all evaporated now. One of a handful of players to have signed for clubs in Tikariot, Spires fans have missed his level-headedness and ability to read the game.

#5 - DC - Odbjorn Ohm - Age 26 - Image Baskita FC (PAS) Image - 72 Caps, 4 Goals - Vice-Captain
A True Valhallan, Ohm was one of the stars of the DBC campaign in Valanora and Banija, where he played alongside Miroshnichenko as the Chicks finished runners-up to Qasden. He had already shown enough in the Terns jersey to be deemed worthy of a lift up into the starting line-up, and, having continued to impress for both club and country, sparked something of a bidding war when he suggested he'd be open to a move abroad. Accordingly, and now playing for Baskita in Pasarga after a short spell with Nepharan giants Crisisbless, Ohm takes his spot as probably the most naturally gifted Polarian centre-back since we were last on the international stages. Now firmly in his mid-twenties, the time for Ohm to push on and make good on everything people have said about his potential is now, so he became the natural choice to pick up the captain's armband in the absence of Oscar Pallasmaa at the Copa. Has happily passed the armband back with Pallasmaa's return, but that doesn't mean his ability lead is in annyway diminished. A strong and powerful defender with an eye for a long pass and, at least domestically; a wicked record from set pieces in the opposition box. A few more of those in the navy of the Terns wouldn't go amiss, Odbjorn...

#6 - DM/MC - Nic Dementieva - Age 24 - Image Rülândéá Kôstä (FFD) Image - 36 Caps, 2 Assists, 2 Goals
A True Valhallan and a real firecracker of a midfielder, Nic Dementieva is curating a growing reputation for wild hair, impassioned tackling, and a ferocious appetite for winning the ball. Fresh from captaining the Chicks to the DBC title, he signed up for the madness of the S-PFL, so Thor only knows what kind of player Rülândéá Kôstä are turning him into. It should be interesting, anyway. Still has some maturing to do no doubt, but if you wanted to point him in the direction of the opposition playmaker and say, "Nic: destroy!" then you're going to see fireworks. Gives off a sort of 'psychiatric patient' aura that can be deeply unsettling for the opposition: if you're playing under the impression that your marker genuinely doesn't care one bit about staying on the pitch or not, you do tend to temper your actions somewhat. And yet, has never been sent off for the Terns. Yet. Can play anywhere in that midfield now, a fact that will come in very useful for an Aalto midfield, which is perhaps why he has been handed the number six spot for this cycle alongside the starting berth. When he plays well, he is often the multiplier that catapults a good team performance into a winning one. But when he plays badly, the formation the Terns will be using could see them left open enough to get cut to ribbons *cough*Archalit*cough*. So. No pressure, then...

#7 - AM/MC - Elvis Haugen - Age 26 - Image Qet NSC (CMT) Image - 26 Caps, 1 Assist, 2 Goals
A True Valhallan, Haugen became the latest all-round export from the Haapa-Mechelin Youth Academy to start setting their sights on international domination when he was called-up by Miroshnichenko Sr, making that step-up, as many others in this squad have done, from DBC to WC. And, at least as far as Aalto sees it, his performances from the bench have been consistently good enough to mean he has ousted Heimark from the starting line-up for another tournament at least. Not quite as a direct as Heimark, his touch and strength in possession, alongside his short and stocky frame, means getting the ball off him can be almost impossible. A great asset for keeping the ball out of dangerous areas whilst protecting a lead - attack being the best form of defence and all that - but is also maybe in the same boat as Heimark when it comes to acknowledging that his spot in the squad isn't guaranteed anymore. With all that talent flying around, he's going to need a strong campaign to hold onto his position, so adding a few more goal involvements would be a very timely boost in that regard, something that he's been working on at club level, too.

#8 - MC - Oscar Pallasmaa - Age 31 - Image 1923 Esca (MYT) Image - 77 Caps, 18 Assists, 6 Goals - CAPTAIN
A True Valhallan, Pallasmaa is possibly the most talented all-round midfielder the Federation has produced since pre-isolation. Adept at holding, knowing when to press forwards, and when to let loose with one of his famous raking long range passes, it is impossible to imagine the modern Bjarnarey without his influence, such was the club and even the city's reliance on him as a talisman. Grew up within sight of The Barge, he is a local hero to the Bjarninger, and is now a national one, too. We expect his star to continue to shine, and all that experience he is bringing with him from Mytanija can only be a good thing for the national team. In another era he might have been a potential all-timer, but he'll need an inspirational performance in a knockout stage win or two to his name to be able to claim anything like that, and time might be running out for his part of the Terns' path back to international notoriety to achieve that. Will that stop him giving his all though? No, of course not. Will his mystery affliction, that kept him so conspicuously absent from the Copa squad? Possibly. Inspirational, intelligent, and in-control, he has swapped shirt numbers as part of Aalto's revolution, but this is honestly more thanks to the amount of players playing in front of him in the formation rather than an indication he's being asked to do a more defensive role. In fact, with his position being asked to drift wide and occupy the right-side of the pitch almost single-handed, his importance is only growing. The Terns missed him at the Copa, and he'll be tasked with calming things down and making things move more fluently from defence to attack.

#9 - ST - Emmanuele Niemi - Age 25 - Image La + Querida (FFD) Image - 46 Caps, 4 Assists, 21 Goals
A True Valhallan, Emmanuele Niemi was the talk of the Federation when he lit up DBC55 with his goalscoring, almost single-handedly propelling the Chicks all the way to the final before a freak gym accident left him on the operating table. Now playing with only one thumb, he cuts an unusual figure on the field, simultaneously looking like he's both craving attention and trying to go under the radar at the same time, and he has a very distinctive run. You can't argue with goals however, and La + Querida have secured themselves a gem here, much to the disappointment of the Nasjonale Hauker fans he's leaving behind; but you can't expect a striker this talented to stay here forever. His father is also a former Polarian u21s international, and he was born in the Fallenmark capital of Marylebone, which is sometimes a controversial topic for some of the authorities. Turns out that even they can't argue with goals however, and ever since winning the DBC in his second attempt, Niemi has managed to raise his game even further. An out-and-out goalscorer, he'll attempt to replicate his telepathic relationship with Nijgaard for the senior side, but so far is just happy to have snatched the precious number nine jersey. With his tally of twenty-one goals so far he has already entered the top twenty of Terns goalscorers, and in only forty-six caps, has achieved that feat with one of the deadliest ratios of any Terns attacker in history. Keep that up, and we could have an all-timer on our hands.

#10 - ST - Youssef Nijgaard - Age 24 - Image FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla Image - 34 Caps, 11 Assists, 7 Goals
A True Valhallan, Nijgaard exploded into the national consciousness with some electrifying performances at the DBC with his strike partner Emmanuele Niemi. So impressive was it, in fact, that the entire nation seemed to be clamouring for them both to go straight into the first World Cup squad. Aside from some substitute appearances together they've had to wait patiently for their chance to shine together at international level, and they're keen to show what they can do. Another Bjarninger native - the little floating city seems to be producing a little golden generation all on its own at the moment - this particular member of that generation is going to have a point to prove during his time with the Terns. More of a deep lying player than an out-and-out finisher, he is a dream of a strike partner to have for others - and fits like a dream into Aalto's front four. A leader figure given the chance, a bright future awaits for this young man, with many already suggesting a turnaround in form might be just around the corner for the Terns now he's finally able to put on that iconic number ten jersey so beloved by the Twitchers.

#11 - AML/WF - Sebastian Nylund - Age 28 - Image 1896 Ebor (MYT) Image - 77 Caps, 15 Assists, 14 Goals - Vice-Captain
A True Valhallan, Nylund can operate as a number ten but does tend to drift wide, a fact that these new tactics of Aalto's are set up to exploit. Expect to see him dominating that left side of the attacking fulcrum, popping up when and where you least expect him too, and good luck trying to mark him - he'll cut in when there are players looking for a cross and hang wide when there aren't. And yet, things always seems to work out for him. He was astonishingly good for Northbrook in his final season there, but when 1896 Ebor offered him a route to Mytanijan football he jumped at it with both hands. Their gain is DivOne's loss. He has the talent to play anywhere he wants to, and is entirely capable of playing across the front line if you wanted him to, which is fortunate given Aalto's ascendency. Nimble, agile, full of tricks, and with the physique to ensure he can't get pushed around; this kid isn't a kid anymore but a fully-fledged superstar... just so long as he can stay out of the nightclubs. Managed to gain credit with the press by standing out in successive poor Copa campaigns, and managed to keep that level of performance going into the last set of qualifiers as well as throughout the Cup of Harmony. All of which means that, somewhat surprisingly, he's been our most consistent performer for the past few tournaments. As a result, not a huge surprise to realise he's the player in this squad with the most goal involvements at international level so far.

#12 - GK - Jaan Reusser - Age 25 - Image SK Aasiaat Harbour Image - 3 Caps
A True Valhallan, Jaan Reusser won the DBC alongside many of the other members of this squad, and drew many plaudits with his mature and intelligent goalkeeping performances. Went back to his club after that and seized the number one jersey there, and was instrumental in Aasiaat's title win, gaining a spot in the team of the season as a result. Has come on in leaps and bounds since then, with the young man that's made this squad a far cry from the boy who turned out for the Chicks. Is only going from strength to strength, and will undoubtedly challenge Sipp for the right to challenge Aigner for the national number one jersey.

#13 - GK - Jori Sipp - Age 27 - Image FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla Image - 8 Caps
A True Valhallan, Sipp's performances at DBC55 impressed Miroshnichenko Sr enough to earn himself a call-up into the senior squad, and he's been here ever since. Is hoping to provide competition for Aigner, alongside Reusser, and is certainly destined for big things. A nimble and cat-like penalty specialist, which might be useful later in the tournament (but let's face it, probably not), he was snapped up from Jan Mayen by the Flotilla a few seasons ago, and looks set to be a leading light for the Bargemen at the back for a long time to come. Was the number one in Aigner's absence during the Copa, but has stepped aside to let the number take his spot back - for now. Has a very slender frame, but don't let that fool you; what he might lack in the ability to boss the six yard box, he more than makes up for with his reach and reflexes.

#14 - AM/MC - Einar Heimark - Age 26 - Image Tikariot City FC (TKT) Image - 71 Caps, 12 Assists, 4 Goals
A True Valhallan, Heimark is an energetic and direct attacking midfielder who does need other players to do some of the legwork for him, but is outstanding when given that license to perform. Operating almost as a second striker for his club side, his ability to draw defenders out of position should in theory create plenty of space for the other attackers to exploit, something Aalto's tactic will attempt to make use of, whilst also asking him to employ a bit more consideration and be more willing to play a supporting role when necessary. One of two Polarian players to have moved to and impressed at Tikariot City FC, but will be feeling the pressure given the number of talented attacking midfielders in the Federation right now. It's a good problem to have, but with the late blooming of Kazimir, and the depth of talent in the u21s squad right now, Heimark knows that his days as the shining young talent are over, underlined by being dropped to the bench in favour of Haugen for a second tournament in a row and ensuring the playesr over his shoulder are even closer than they were.

#15 - D/WB L - Jari-Andrej Coia - Age 20 - Image Atletik Težia (MYT) Image - 1 Cap
A True Valhallan, young starlet Jari-Andrej Coia is an exceptionally talented player with the world at his feet. Has already made the move to top league in the form of Mytanija, but was loaned back to his hometown club of Novaya Sibir just long enough for us to see what we'd be missing once he left. Blistering pace, sensational vision, and fearless in the tackle, Coia's surname gives away the hint of Acquan in his family tree, and his desire to get forwards at all times is clear for everyone to see. Whenever a new potential star breaks onto the scene like Coia has, there are always whispers and comparisons in the press, attempting to pin them to the mould of a previous legend - particularly at full-back for the Terns, where there have been some heroic players over the years. WIth Coia, however, there is just the slightest sense that they may have broken the mould. He's got a huge future, and was plucked from the u21 ranks to make his senior debut at the Copa. Watch this one closely, as he'll be keen to add to his single cap so far.

#16 - D/WB L/R - Mikkel Makkinen - Age 24 - Image FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla Image - 11 Caps
A True Valhallan, Makkinen has turned himself into something of a renaissance man at the back, and is equally adept at playing as a full-back or wing-back, and on either side of the defence. Might lack the physical strength to take up a central role, but his speed and guile mean that whichever side of defence he's deployed on will gain an intelligent and highly skilled attacking asset, able to pop up in any of the four corners of the pitch and be able to achieve his goals. With age, he's gaining confidence and the ability to trust himself as well, with a ruthless edge and desire to win that few can match.

#17 - DMC - Valentin Brunel - Age 22 - Image FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla Image - 6 Caps
A True Valhallan, Brunel was first called up to the Terns as an eighteen-year-old a couple of Copas ago, much to everyone's surprise, but he far from embarrassed himself, and so with Ragnar Holst's time with the national side seemingly over, up steps Brunel again; this time as understudy to Dementieva. Already a fan favourite at Bjarnarey since moving somewhat controversially from Norscelt rivals Surtsey, his talent with the ball at his feet far surpasses what you'd usually expect see from a defensive midfielder. Brunel is in fact always keen to get forwards to support the more attacking players of the team, something which should hold him in good stead in an Aalto formation, although if Aalto was hoping for a more level-headed alternative in front of the defence than Dementieva provides, he went about it the wrong way entirely: Brunel's Urscszar heritage means he is often all too fast to get hot under the collar.

#18 - ST - Elmo Polland - Age 30 - Image SK Nasjonale Hauker Image - 9 Caps, 2 Assists, 1 Goal
A True Valhallan, Polland's recent run of form has been nothing short of remarkable. Something of a late starter, clearly, Red Star's recent climb up the table from relegation flirters to Big Six challengers had an awful lot to do with Polland. With a ruthless eye for the right angle, his touches-to-shots ratio must be amongst the best in the league, and he almost always make the goalkeeper work hard. More of a finisher than a networker, he will represent something of a Plan B for Aalto should he come on, and, although superficially similar to both Niemi and Nijgaard in a way, is the definition of "gives the defence something else to think about". An emotional and hard-working player, he had thought at one point that his national team opportunity had passed him by, so those emotional fireworks when he scored his first goal were something to behold. Moved to Nasjonale as a result of the striker merry-go-round in order to act as a replacement for Niemi, and will be looking to prove once more his aptitude as a Niemi-replacement should he be called upon here.

#19 - MC - Marten Kallenberger - Age 25 - Image Litala '93 (MYT) Image - 22 Caps, 2 Assists
A True Valhallan, Kallenberger is a proud owner of a DBC winners medal, and has the drive, the hunger, and most importantly, the talent to add to his collection. The ball seems to stick to him, he always seems to find a player with his passing, and both of those abilities are key to any Aalto side, which meant he was trusted with the number eight shirt usually worn by Oscar Pallasmaa at the last Copa. Originally touted as an attacking midfielder, he's more of a carrier and a dictator of pace than that label would suggest, so is going to be applied as a solid middle-of-the-park option in this roster. Nonetheless, that versatility makes him very attractive to Aalto, and expect to see him deputise all over the centre of the park if he's asked to. Litala '93 clearly saw the same qualities in him as Aalto did, and he joins the massed ranks of Terns internationals in Mytanija right now. Time is a circle, and all that.

#20 - ST - Nico Wickenheiser - Age 29 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 2 Caps
A True Valhallan, Wickenheiser was actually a member of the very first Terns squad that Miroshnichenko called up all those years ago, but failed to impress off the bench in his one appearance during the group stage, and came home with only one shot off target to show for his eight minutes on the pitch. When he wasn't called up again, I think Wickenheiser was probably one of many who thought that that was his chance with the Terns over and done with. Clearly, Aalto saw things differently, and called the Northbrook Diamonds striker up again following a number of good seasons domestically, helping to propel the Diamonds to being seemingly perennial title challenges. Has added the ability to drop deep and engage in midfield to his game, which will likely see him come to the fore as a Nijgaard replacement should one be needed during this tournament, but equally, is desperately seeking his first goal in a Terns shirt.

#21 - AMC - Loïc Nousiainen - Age 23 - Image Atletik Težia (MYT) Image - 1 Cap
A True Valhallan, Nousiainen is yet another of the young Terns who've seen their light plucked from Divisjon One by an enthusiastic Mytanar side, and he is the second young Tern in this squad alone to currently be playing for Atletik. There is a sense that this tricksy attacking playmaker might just be about to break through into being the shining and leading light that we all suspect he can be, and he'd be another success for the Ellismare Rochefroides community if he managed it, either in this tournament or the next. Let's face it, you don't lead multiple Chicks sides to consecutive DBC finals without having something about you.

#22 - DC - Valentin Ernst - Age 23 - Image Tihon (CMT) Image - 3 Caps
A True Valhallan, Ernst is the latest beneficiary of Erik Zhamaletdinov's fine work with the national u21 set-up, and made the step-up straight into the starting line-up for the Terns at the last Copa. Something that was perhaps a step too soon, a fact that Aalto acknowledged and apologised for in press conferences after their disappointing exit. Had something of a breakthrough for Chromatika giants Tihon last season, and will be looking to bring the experience he's gained there to the forefront of his Terns career. An excellent reader of the game, prefers to leave the leadership to others, and just gets on with making sure he's always in the right place at the time. And, when he's not, his blistering pace is often enough to get him out of trouble. Could improve aerially, which is an unusual thing to say about a Polarian defender, but will be looking to learn and add enough further strings to his bow in qualifying to ensure the next time he is called into the starting line-up he makes it stick.

#23 - DC - Aslak Hrafninnsson - Age 28 - Image Orchideeën (TXH) Image - 10 Caps
A True Valhallan, Aslak had been climbing the ranks at Nasjonale slowly but steadily following his move from Eintracht Moss-Rygge a few seasons ago, eventually making the starting spot his own. His performances in recent seasons have also made Aalto take note, and now that he's in charge of this operation, Aslak gets the nod. A nod that even with a single appearance in the last Copa, was enough for Taxhavn club Orchideeën to make something of an example of him. With Blockhead heritage, his physical size is understandably massive, but he carries himself around the pitch rather more nimbly than you'd expect. Still, he remains very much in the 'big and mean' mould, and therefore is perfectly suited to provide an alternative to Aalto's usual plan should one be required.

TACTICS: 3-3-4

Before we disappeared from the international scene, the Polarian game was famous for being methodical in its approach; calmly assessing where the weaknesses of the opposition lay before ruthlessly attacking and exploiting them mercilessly, all whilst being technically sharp and abrasive in defence. The football served up by Miroshnichenko on our return was... something of a shock, as a result. Fans are therefore thoroughly enjoying the tactics employed by Aalto, seeing them as a breath of fresh air following the defensive dirge they were previously forced to watch, and, to be honest, don't really mind if they concede a lot and lose a few along the way. Just so long as there are goals going in at the other end.

At the back, the centre-backs and left-back will be called upon to do most of the defending, with the right-hand-side left open for a marauding performance from the wing-back. Dementieva and Pallasmaa complete that 'central' line of what counts for a midfield, but this formation is designed to be fluid in both attack and defence so this is just a guide, really, and the unpredictability of Dementieva in particular could well make or break things for the Terns at any given moment. With the right-side held down by attacks from deep, the bulk of the attacking focus comes from playing on the left, with both Haugen and Nylund tending to drift that way and make space for NIjgaard and Niemi in the middle. Pallasmaa will go wherever the space is, and the whole tactic is based around being unpredictable and creating overloads in specific parts of the pitch at specific times.

It's clear that Aalto hadn't quite had the time to drill the new tactics into the players by the time the last Copa came around, but things were beginning to click by the end of the last World Cup Qualifiers, and the Cup of Harmony performances surpassed expectations. Things were back to their worst with a squad selection at the most recent Copa that was perhaps a bit too untested, but the qhole set-up will be looking to bounce back here.

NOTE: Please also be minded that the formation could be asked to 'mirror' or 'invert' itself at any time with the signal from Aalto. That is to say, the players on the wings wouldn't actually switch places physically, but the roles and asymmetry would flip; so the left back would press on whilst the right back hung back, and so on and so forth. How successful this inversion tactic performs is entirely up to you to RP should you so choose to.

The Federation is no longer the bastion of civil rights and political freedoms that you might remember. The long absence from international sport was ICly thanks to an isolationist and paranoid police state taking over, using whipped up fear against the Sargossans' claim to Külmsaar and Terra Scotia as both carrot and stick. Citizens are now preoccupied with achieving the title of True Valhallan, which is acquired through either military service, civil service, outstanding conduct, or as of recently, representing your national in international sport.

Federico Aalto was promoted from assistant to manager of the national side pretty much by direct instruction of the Secretary General Orion Lund himself. Not that the SecGen knows who Aalto is, as such, but the circus that was Iosef Miroshnichenko's tenure in charge was entirely designed to keep column inches away from Lund's lunge for total power and the abolition of any sort of national elections whatsoever. To be fair to Lund (bleugh), it was a plan that worked almost perfectly, and Aalto was under pressure from agents of the dreaded Office of Observations to contradict and work against Miroshnichenko at almost any opportunity. Fans, pundits, talking heads, and commentators alike were all pushing for Aalto to be listened to more and more, with the vast majority rightly fed up of Miroshnichenko's conservative brand of ultra-defensive football. He argued it was pragmatic, with the Terns still a long way from the standard of the best international sides, but the fans were unhappy, and when those fans are fans of the national team, it means the whole nation is unhappy. And when the nation is unhappy with something else, Lund never lets an opportunity slip to get what he wants past a distracted populace. So; the message form the Ensign Tower became #Miroshnichenkout, and #Aaltin. Just, don't look behind the velvet curtain.

Under instruction from those at The Party who understand football a little more than Lund does, the OO will continue to dictate instructions, threats, and manipulations to Aalto whenever possible, just to make sure he still knows where the actual power is, even if his original purpose has been served. Aalto's Külmsaari background means he is born from the same cradle that supported The Party in their rally against Sargossan influence; this being the same path that eventually led Lund to taking absolute power in the Federation, it is a background that The Party will continue to exploit in Aalto whenever possible, despite East Külmsaar not technically being a part of the Federation anymore.

Unbeknownst to The Party however, is Aalto's little coincidental meeting with a selection of like-minded individuals in the Ocean Café, Bjarnarey. You can read up on these in my RPs, but to all intents and purposes, Aalto is currently operating as what you'd call a double agent. There is no reason for you or your characters to know this however, so keep schtum. He might appear agitated on the sidelines slightly more than usual however. There is no reason that your characters would know for certain what Lund has planned for Aalto or the nation in general, though you are free to speculate - particularly where the reappearance of Alexsandr van Sorensen is concerned, even if you won't know about the counter-movement being formed.

As an aside, the nation has also taken a rather more bullying tone towards the rest of the Valhallan Union, with Minor Valhalla now very much pressured into living up to the definition of its geographical title, and not best pleased about it. So, the nation is no longer closed, but Valhallan fans will not yet be permitted to travel in large numbers, and organised supporters groups are currently illegal. Expect plenty of shady support staff to follow the Terns abroad, too. Despite the official line that 'things are getting more and more free'; they aren't - a fact that a steady trickle of Polarians are slowly waking up to.

In short; it's Valhalla, Sven, but not as we know it...
