TREE NUMBERS SHOOTING UP
Sunday 30th October 2022

Gorinsk - If you've ever talked to your grandmother, you'll have heard her tell you she can remember when "this was all trees". Razenland has a proud arboreal heritage and still today anyone will be glad to tell you that Razenland is "half forest". But is your grandmother telling the truth? Reports in recent years have suggested that tree coverage nationally is actually likely to be around a third of total national land area, while a new official report confirms that it is in fact just 28%.

Research conducted for this report pointed early on towards a conclusion along these lines, and it is this that prompted President Volotka to announce his Century of Trees Project, aimed at restoring large forests and small woodlands throughout the country. Launched on New Year's Day 2022, when the president himself planted a wild cherry tree in the grounds of Government House, the Century of Trees Project has now achieved a milestone ten million trees planted so far. With the planting season upon us once more, tree numbers are shooting up.

The symbolic planting back in January echoed the actions of President Tumilovich who, in 1999, planted a chestnut tree outside Government House to kickstart his Millennium Tree Project, which aimed to plant ten million trees before the dawn of the new millennium. That ambition was achieved, with the official grand total reported at the time as 10,093,225. But CoT will go further, seeking to plant between thirteen million and fifteen million trees every year for a century, with the ultimate aim of reforesting up to 48% of land area nationally.

"We have more than five million hectares to plant" declares Government's Yuliana Trubila, Director of the Ministry of Forestry and Agriculture. "It will take a long time but it is a phenomenal and worthwhile project - a whole century of tree-planting is just what our planet needs."

President Volotka has been seen in the media recently, encouraging support for the project, with televised appearances showing him planting more trees on land he now owns at the northernmost point of the country. He says he plans to plant all around his fifteen-hectare estate, making it his personal contribution to the scheme and to the health and wellbeing of our planet.

But detractors have criticised his ownership of so much land, with one anonymous correspondent claiming "only farms and forests can occupy so much space in Razenland - he has used his position to claim land for himself. Dare I say the word 'corrupt' in front of reporters?" Meanwhile environmentalists have pointed out that, without a strict curbing of deforestation, the aim to cover 48% of the country with trees will take not one hundred years to achieve, but up to 225.

Negative reactions in some quarters will disappoint the president, whose summer has been spent talking up Novigrad - a project to build a new 'eco port town' in the Far North region, which will welcome cargo vessels and transship goods on to trains for cross-continental journeys, saving huge ships expensive voyages and weeks at sea. Detractors of that flagship idea are already nicknaming it Volotkagrad, in the belief that the president is treating it as a vanity project. But, sporting his own new Razenland National Forestry uniform, as he wanders his fifteen-hectare garden wielding a spade and a bag of tree saplings, he would argue that he is digging in for a greener future for our country and its people.

WHO IS PRESIDENT VOLOTKA?
Profile

Witold Volotka is the third President of the Republic of Razenland. He rose quickly through the ranks of his regional transport union before being encouraged to stand for election to the National Assembly, the parliament of Razenland. Elected in 2010 as a member of the fast-rising One Nation political party, he was installed in a junior position within the Ministry of Transport. Amid the party's tussle with its leader, President Smolski, over legislative reforms, a breakaway faction, including Volotka, formed the Centrist Union Party and contested with great success the 2015 general election. As part of the coalition government that followed, Volotka became Director of the Ministry of Transport in 2015. Following Smolski's death in 2021, Volotka won the presidential election out of an incredible 18 candidates.

WHAT IS RAZENLAND?
Profile

The Republic of Razenland lies on the continental northwest peninsula, a medium-sized country of some 109,000 square miles total land area. It has mountains in the south at its border with its only two neighbours. In recent history, the country suffered military occupation by a foreign state through the 1980s, finally ended in 1988. A new constitution was drawn up and the first free elections of the new republic held in 1990. Razenland has many state-owned or government-run industries and enterprises, spanning energy production, transport services, vehicle manufacturing, mining and forestry. It has a population of around nine million people, who enjoy visiting and exploring the nation's many lush forests in their leisure time, and its national animal is the stork.

Highway Patrol police told to 'f*ck off' by petition, respond by leaving
Christchurch, Drongonia

Christchurch commuters celebrated on Peaker and Facebook today as Police confirmed they're changing their highway patrol schedules.

A petition titled 'Christchurch Police: get the f*ck off the motorway' was posted on Change.org last week and has since surpassed 150,000 signatures.

The petition's creation was in response to a recent change in Highway Patrol policing, which has seen officers parked on the side of the motorway during morning and afternoon rush hour traffic in a bid to catch those speeding.

However, the petition's author, Arthur Green, says in his petition that the reason given by Police was "bullshit". The petition reads, in part, "Who's actually able to speed in the heavy morning traffic? The only thing the cops sitting there does is slow everyone down from 100 to 70 because other dickheads on the road think you need to go 30 under whenever there's a cop around. I've never seen them catch anyone."

Following the petition's rise to popularity, every post on the Christchurch Police's social media pages has been bombarded with replies from annoyed motorists, often insulting or degrading the police, and usually including a link to the petition.

Police responded to the animosity by releasing a statement confirming, among other things, that the road policing strategy for the city's motorways will be changing from tomorrow morning. "We're disappointed that the public chose to view our efforts to protect them with such contempt.", the statement read. It continued "However, we acknowledge the frustration that our presence on the motorways has been causing to morning commuters, and will therefore be altering our speed enforcement techniques going forward." The statement reassured motorists that speed limits would still be actively enforced, finishing with "Police will still be ready to respond to incidences of dangerous driving at any time of the day or night."

Police Minister Karen McKnight commented on Peaker that this process has been "a bit rude, but still an exercise in following the will of the people, and that's what the Police should be doing!"

Police statistics released for October showed no fines or arrests were issued on Christchurch's Southern Motorway between 7am - 9am.

Kumpulan Tabung Pekerja Sarawak (KTPS) announced that applications for a special withdrawal of $10,000 will be open to members under the age of 55 starting 1 December 2022.
"The application deadline is December 30, 2022, while the payment period will begin on January 20 next year,"
according to KTPS in a statement.

Members are allowed to withdraw a maximum amount of $10,000 and a minimum of $50, and must withdraw the remaining balance in their Account Two first before accessing the savings in Account One.

"Any further information will be communicated later" explained KTPS.

Prime Minister of Sarawak Darulhana in a special press conference today said the government allowed the special release of the KTPS contribution to ease the burden of the people of Sarawak who are still affected by the recent pandemic.

The government previously allowed the withdrawal of KTPS contributions through three schemes namely i-Makmur, i-Tratur and i-Bangkit amounting to $202 billion, involving 7.34 million contributors since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country two years ago and the "Zombie Apocalypse" pandemic that is attacking Sarawak now .

The three KTPS special withdrawal programs are pre-retirement withdrawals introduced as a temporary measure to help the survival of members in coping with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic during the Stay at Home Order (PDR).

Nebisḱopa reportedly will not lead next coalition government
Author: Iust́inâne Ḱaḱačó

Tamara - On Thursday Social Democratic politicians from all over Agausia gathered in Tamara for their party convention. Once every four years, or before parliamentary elections, party members gather en masse to discuss the future vision of the party. These party meetings usually attract a tight-lipped crowd, and leaked reports are historically rare. However, this year a source from inside the meeting has revealed details from inside.

block

The anonymous source stated that there was talk about who the party would support to be the next prime minster. Since 2015 Aṕolona Nebisḱopa has led the minority Social Democratic government, but rumors of coalition talks have become prevalent in political circles. When first nominated to PM Nebisḱopa was known as a moderate candidate with the ability to negotiate and work with MPs from all parties. However, in recent years Nebisḱopa has been a more polarizing figure.

block

It is now unclear if Nebisḱopa, Agausia's first female PM, would have the support from parliament to form a third government if a coalition is needed. If the SDs are able to win a majority in November's elections, which is highly unlikely, then there is a chance that Nebisḱopa could lead again. However, if a coalition is formed than other candidates will most likly be considered. Names that were thrown around in Thursday's meeting included, current New Green-Left Alliance leader Mišḱo Ermolai, and current deputy PM Daviti Mit́evi, among others.

block

Regardless of who gets the job, they will be inheriting a plethora of national and international issues. Stagnation, inflation, regional instability, a war to the north, and a cost-of-living crisis will all be issues inherited by this new government. While the polls predict that the next government will be ideologically center to left leaning there is no clear indication of who may be part of the next government.

KUCHING, Nov 6: The 'Kampung Heritage Trail' program organized by Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHe) was held as an effort to give exposure to old history and traditions especially to the young.
Program Coordinator, Dr Sharifah Suzana said, the implementation of such a program is to ensure that the traditional customs of the Malay community in Sarawak are not lost to time.
"By organizing events like this regularly, at least it can ensure our young people to both remember and learn history.
"This is like an education program for our new generation to learn the old traditions so that they can always be preserved,"
he said when met by DHN at the 'Kampung Heritage Trail' program at Rumah Warisan Datuk Amar Abang Ahmad Urai, here, yesterday.
In addition, Dr Sharifah added, the government also needs to play a role to ensure that efforts to maintain traditions can continue.
"The establishment of OKSHe is a platform for the government to channel aid and funds so that programs that contribute to our efforts to maintain old traditions can be implemented,"she said.

What is the proof or point of Santubong, the oldest Malay 'state' in the world?
by Tuty Haryanti Ahmad Rodzi
Image
Sanib delivered a lecture at the Malay Manuscript Discourse Conference on Malay-Jawi theme in Sarawak:Santubong as the Second Oldest Malay State in the World, at Brunei Darussalam.

BANDAR SRI BEGAWAN: Santubong is a settlement
and now capital city in Sarawak that is rich in natural beauty.
It is also popular because of the famous legendary story in Sarawak, about Puteri Santubong and Puteri Sejinjang which is linked to Mount Santubong and Mount Sejinjang and immortalized in a folk song.
Santubong which is located only about 30 minutes from Kuching also has evidence that it is the second oldest Malay 'state' in the world after Kedah in Malaya.
Sarawak History Expert, Datu Dr Sanib Said, said Santubong is believed to have existed since 300 BC.
He explained that iron stools and Malayan vases are among the most important discoveries that prove the history.
"Even before this, Santubong, which is rich in natural beauty, was a state before Sarawak became a state.
"Santubong was also once the largest archaeological site in Southeast Asia but now it is increasingly being forgotten.
"However, iron dung can still be found in Santubong until now, while thousands of pottery shards and Malayan vases are now housed in the Sarawak Darulhana Museum Department,"
he said.
He said this after the Malay Manuscript Discourse on Malay-Jawi Theme in Sarawak: Santubong as the Second Oldest Malay State in the World at the Asian Malay Movement Conference organized in Brunei Darussalam here which was also attended by the Chairman of the Asian Malay Movement himself, Datu Pengiran Haji Mutasir bin Pengiran Abdul Rahman today.
Sanib, who is also the General Manager of Amanah Khairat, Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS), said the discovery had also been included in the Year Five and Form Two history textbooks.
In another development, Sanip admits that currently students are less interested in reading manuscripts compared to when they were studying when reading manuscripts became one of the assignments in class.
Therefore, he sincerely hopes that the concerned parties can do something to attract students' interest in reading the manuscript.
"Reading manuscripts can also discover new discoveries that will be useful for future generations,"he said, stressing that PMA's current efforts such as organizing the discourse is also one of the efforts to attract students' interest to manuscripts.
Meanwhile, PMA said in a statement that today's discourse aims to promote the Malay manuscripts stored in the library's collection and to reveal to the public the importance of the knowledge recorded in the Malay manuscripts themselves.
"It also aims to show the influence and assimilation of culture and image. PMA hopes that this program can encourage the community to appreciate Malay manuscripts as the main and authentic source or reference material, both in matters of Islamic religion, customs, culture, socioeconomics and politics," he said.
To date, PMA has stored a total of 5,161 copies of the Malay manuscript collection through the Malay Nation Study Unit (UKBM) which is joined by leading scholars in Southeast Asia.

State-owned TVDG, National Radio to merge, form nation's largest media company
Christchurch, Drongonia

The CEOs of the Government's two largest media apparatuses chaired a press conference this morning in which they confirmed the framework for merging the two media entities is complete, and the merger will go ahead in January 2023. The new entity will be called Drongonian Broadcast Corporation, but will trade and brand itself as DB or Drongonian Broadcasting.

Television Drongonia CEO David Wilson and Drongonian National Radio CEO Abigail Steadman read parts of a joint statement outlining how the merger was to work, as well as assuring attending media and the public in their own terms that the organisations will remain independent of the Government. When asked by a reporter, Wilson stated that "the impartiality and integrity of TVDG and DNR's reporting will remain the single most important goal moving forward."

The merger, which would create the largest media company in the Pacific, was approved by the Commerce Commission last week, according to now-released documents. Broadcasting and Media Minister Mandeep Singh said during an interview with TVDG's Breakfast that "The merger is entirely in good faith. The only changes being made here are procedural and funding-related."

Documents released by the Ministry for Broadcasting and Media estimate that the merger will save over $100m in the next five years, cutting down on management and administration costs for the two entities. During the merger, it is expected that the larger TVDG will absorb most of the job losses, with an early figure of 60 lay-offs expected, in comparison to just 10 from DNR.

Despite the reassurances, opponents of the merger made their voices heard on social media and in Parliament today. Labour leader Sarah Ellice took to Peaker to raise her concerns, calling the merger "...a path to total state-sanctioned fascistic control of the media apparatus." Other MPs shared similar sentiment, with Labour's Broadcasting and Media spokesperson Nikki Bowen posting "This merger will make it impossible to escape misinformation! Government media empire forming right before our eyes!"

The merger was not officially brought before Parliamentary vote. Instead, a Parliamentary Select Committee reviewed submissions made by both entities, followed by public submissions - before approving the merger and altering the relevant legislation to allow it to go ahead.

The merger was initially scheduled to take place in January of this year, but proceedings were temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic factors. It is expected that the merger will be complete by the end of January 2023, and that new branding for the two entities will be fully utilised by March. The cost of the merger is expected to be approximately $112m, with the cost being spread across the two entities and central Government by way of the Ministry for Broadcasting and Media.

Labour has confirmed that the party will repeal the changes if elected in 2024, by way of its Peaker feed.

This has impacted the supply of gas to MLNG Omar’s production facility at PETROS LNG Complex (PLC) in Bintulu, Sarawak Darulhana.
PETROS wishes to clarify that the FM affects the supply of gas to MLNG Omar's production facility only, while the other LNG production facilities within the PLC continue to operate as planned.
PETROS is mindful that this incident has impacted its delivery commitments to some of its contracted Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) buyers and it is in discussions to identify suitable mitigation efforts.
PETRONAS is currently conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the SSGP to ensure the integrity and safety of the pipeline.

Four members of the United Alliance announce new party

ûli - With less than one month left until the parliamentary elections several members of the United Alliance, a centrist party with a center right fraction, have announced their intention to form a new party. Leading this effort is Irine Anidaže running in Mtavari Iḱ's second district. Back in September Anidaže was a likely contender to run against Kalul Ramont́i, should party chair elections ensue. However, it seems that she has abandoned that path in favor of creating her own party.

block

Another candidate who will join Anidaže's party is Luḱas Resḱavi. Resḱavi is running against incumbent Davor Kudelin (SD) in Tamara's third district. Daviti Virsalaže is running for reelection in the Megobris Region's fourth district, and T́at́âna Navsaǵmuša from Ǵrubeli's seventh district, both are currently members of the United Alliance and have stated their intention to join the newly formed Democratic league of Agausia (ADL).

block

It is unknown if the four-members in the ADL will join the opposition or if the center-right faction will remain outside of any coalition or alliance. And while the announcement of the new party is sudden, the ideological shift to the right for some members of the party has been well observed since 2018. Despite having only 4 members they should still be able to garner 3% of the vote, which is needed to meet the electoral threshold. Polling suggests a center-left coalition government is likely after November's election.

FRIDAY|10TH NOVEMBER 2022

Full Text of the Friday Sermon

Muslims who are blessed by Allah,

Let us together increase piety to Allah subhanahu wata'ala earnestly carry out all His commands and stay away from all His prohibitions. Hopefully our lives will always be blessed by Allah subhanahu wata'ala.
The preacher wants to remind the congregation not to chat and don't play on the phone when the sermon is being delivered becausethat matter is included in things that are lagha (useless).

From sayyidina Ali radiallahu anhu that he heard the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam said;
And whoever lagha (does deeds or conversations that keep the person busy from listening or being silent during the sermon) then he does not get it his share of his Friday (i.e. his Friday reward decreases or he does not get the desired advantage and
reward expected from him). (Hadith narrated by Imam Abu Daud)

The Mimbar calls out to all the congregation present, so that give full focus to the sermon today titled "Leaders And Leadership".

Dear Muslimin,

Leadership is the most important thing in Islam
so much so that once the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam take a firm stance rejecting his friend's request from held a major position in Medina.
Narrated from Abu Dzar radhiallahu anhu that he asked to Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasalam:
"O Messenger of Allah! Why don't you give me a position? His Majesty sallallahu alaihiwasalam clapped
his hand on my shoulder then said: "O Abu Dzar, indeed you are weak while the position is a trust.
It will be an insult and regret on the Day of Judgement
except those who take it in the right way and
fulfill his obligations."
(Rewayat Muslim)

The Muslims who are blessed by God,

A person who holds the title of leader should try his best
may run a trust. Trust is the main characteristic of nature a Muslim according to the Word of Allah subhanahu wata'ala in Surat Al-Mu'minun, verse 8 which
:
˹the believers are also˺ those who are true to their trusts and covenants

This is the main feature, which by the grace of Allah subhanahu wata'ala
becomes the reason for a servant of His faith to inherit
Firdaus paradise as His Word means in the surah
the same, verses 10 and 11:
"These are the ones who will be awarded.Paradise as their own. They will be there forever."

Trust is a very great thing, so much so God's creatures called heaven, earth and mountains do not willing to bear This matter is clearly mentioned in surah Al-Ahzab, verse 72
Indeed, We offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they ˹all˺ declined to bear it, being fearful of it. But humanity assumed it, ˹for˺ they are truly wrongful ˹to themselves˺ and ignorant ˹of the consequences˺.

May leadership at all levels be preserved from nature betrayal of trust because of Allah subhanahu wata'ala reminds us of this great thing as His words in surah al-Anfal verse 27:

O believers! Do not betray Allah and the Messenger, nor betray your trusts knowingly

The Muslims who are blessed by God,
Someone who holds the title of leader is certainly supported by
trust. Someone who carries a trust needs to have power
leadership that coincides with the will of God and His Messenger. What are the characteristics of successful leadership and
the well-being of those who are led?

First
Making Al-Quran a leader for him because
every group on the day of judgment will be called together
their leader. Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasalam who
His teaching is the Quran and the Quran is a guide
for him as the leadership of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam and Khulafa' Ar-Rashydin. His himself is
revelation of the Qur'an and morals with the morals of the Qur'an

Second:
Perseverance and patience in going through trials and obstacles

Third:
Soleh means having high faith and piety
because it is the basic characteristic and nature of a caliph in person
earth.

Fourth:
Fulfilling trust and duties as best as possible
that is, by doing justice, calling for goodness
and prevent evil, develop the state and
etc. as in surah Al-Hajj verse 41 means

˹They are˺ those who, if established in the land by Us, would perform prayer, pay alms-tax, encourage what is good, and forbid what is evil. And with Allah rests the outcome of all affairs.

Fifth:
Manage and lead based on the principles that
coincides with the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam
peace be upon him. That is to be fair to the people with
put something in its proper place
based on sane and healthy considerations, guarantee rights
the same for people who coincide with Islam, meeting and discussing to get the best results
for the people as well as maintaining trust and responsibility for guarantee the interests of the people and society in a way that
allowed by Sharia.

The Muslims who are blessed by God,

History has taught us a lot that the destruction of a
country and leadership failure is caused by the leader
who hates and opposes Islam, acts unjustly and
deceive the people and do evil. Of course
the act will drag them to the abyss of hell as well
scolded by his followers in the world that he brought to hell. There is no such thing as the best leadership
role models and role models other than the leadership of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam
alaihiwasalam who was later followed by Khulafa Ar-Rasyidin. The Mimbar calls to all, from the leadership levelto the common people to always search history
and the personality of the Prophet and his companions withBread books of sirah and hadith related to personality
them to instill a sense of love for them and Islam
we obey. May the love for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him
alaihiwasallam gives birth to accurate leadership from every soul
who holds the title of Muslim who is a believer.

The Muslims who are blessed by God,
For the end of this sermon, let us recall some
the most important thing from the sermon that was delivered just now is :

First: Leadership is trust. Take good care. Allah subhanahu wata'ala is the best rewarder.
Second: Leadership is not just about big things such as state and national affairs, even within the environment family that is the father is the leader of his family and so on.
Third: Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasalam is the best role model in leadership. So, read it cover to cover
the context of today's sermon, examine his personality and make it He is a role model in leadership.
Fourth: Beware of treachery.Definitely will accountable on the day of judgment.
Fifth: Maintain principles in leadership, as long as they last coincide with the teachings of Islam.

Ending the sermon, let's live the word together
Allah subhanahu wata'ala in surah An-Nisa' verse 58:

Indeed, Allah commands you to return trusts to their rightful owners and when you judge between people, judge with fairness. What a noble commandment from Allah to you! Surely Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing..

Protesters wave Palestinian flags during a protest outside the US Embassy in Kuching, Sarawak Darulhana

SANTUBONG:Wisma Adenan has issued a statement that Sarawak Darulhana has never established diplomatic relations between Sarawak Darulhana and the Occupied Palestinian Territories known as Israel. This is in response to a Filipino journalist, Martius Macarona who claimed that Sarawak Darulhana will be ready to establish diplomatic relations with Israel so many believe the journalist's claim and condemned Sarawak Darulhana.
this is a sensitive matter, even though His Majesty the Sultan is fluent in Hebrew but he does not agree to cooperate with Israel

said the royal spokesman, Hafizul Mufrad
Sarawak Darulhana only cooperates with charities in Israel such as Bt'selem, Zochronot and Viva Filistinin in distributing humanitarian aid in Palestine in addition to providing aid in Gaza through NGOs in Gaza. Sarawakians can only visit Israel for no more than 2 weeks and they can only visit Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Haifa, Tel Aviv and Yafo only.they can only visit Israel once every 5 years and must apply for a visa through the Israeli Embassy in Singapore.
To deny the claim, His Majesty the Sultan of Sarawak Darulhana will hold a special command in Hebrew to state "Sarawak Darulhana will not cooperate with Israel as long as the Palestinian humanitarian issue is not resolved".

USS Kitty Hawk Finally Retired After 61 Years of Service

A crowd gathered today at the Port of North Point to watch the USS Kitty Hawk dock for the final time. A ceremony was held with USS Boldonia appearing at the ceremony. Several speeches were held by former sailors and captians speaking of their time aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. This was soon followed by the lowering of the Boldonian flag on her superstructure and the raising of the US one, then the Band of the Independent Republic of Boldonia Naval Forces played the US anthem. After that there was a full gun salute from USS Boldonia followed by a moment of silence. Then the crowd that had gathered just kind of dispersed. The USS Kitty Hawk museum is not open yet however, the nuclear reactor has been taken out already but there are still a few things that need to be cleared up with the navy. Aswell the new fixtures and information that the museum have not been installed yet. Still residents and tourists are allowed to stand on the pier and look at the first supercarrier museum ship in history, right here in Boldonia!

Traffic at Highway-KS 13, Kaw causes public outrage due to poor transit infrastructure

Today, at Highway 13, people experience traffic at rush hour. The result of the mess? Poor road infrastructure.

People are now complaining at social media, even one celebrity saying
Truly the life we live in, corruption, corruption, and corruption!
. But the actual problems in the poor infrastructure lies in the management. After an 2 hour investigation and also an 2 hour fixing of roads after it got closed, law enforcement managed to found an reason to the traffic. It was found that the company was in severe debt and is bankrupt after the 2009 Stock Crash, causing them to be ill-equipped for 3 months, the same time Highway 13 was being created.

DPT Head of Department meanwhile claims that the company was 'very carefree of the problem and should be punished,' and even states that the '[Censored name] is a [beep],' causing massive outrage against the head of DPT after knowing what happened and why it happened. Currently, the DPT Head has resigned, and has step out of politics.

Residents of Tamara protest rent prices
Author: Simone Mzeraže
Tuesday, November 15, 2022

Image

Tamara - Residents in the Agausian capital protested for a second day as rent prices continue to grow in Tamara. Protests began on Monday after Agausia's largest public residential real estate company decided to increase rents for most of their units in the city. This follows weeks of price increases brought on by a steady inflow of Russian's who are fleeing Putin's war, compounded with an ever-shrinking housing market.
block

Nearly a thousand protestors have been gathering in Gréḱa Veluriḱvavili park in southeast Tamara each and every day to pressure Bluestar (Lurživarsḱvlavi), which is Agausia's largest public residential real estate company, to ease rates hikes and put an end to what protestors call "predatory lending habits". Forty-eight-year-old teacher Danut́a Ṕët́raševsḱa has been attending the protest since day one. "I brought my whole family to the protest today. My two sons and my husband all live in an apartment and we have lived in the same apartment our whole lives. We are raised our family here. We may not be able to stay there much longer. We just cannot afford it. I know many families who are facing a similar situation." Protestors have vowed a rent-strike if rent prices aren't adjusted.
block

According to Agausian economist Maiḱl Ivanopski, "What we are seeing is an unfortunate byproduct of supply and demand. Agausia has seen an increase in immigration from both Ukraine and Russia. Most of these people end up moving to Tamara and other cities in search of opportunity. The cause behind the rent increase is simple. The solution, however, remains difficult."
block

Several MPs, from across the political spectrum, have called for the government to intervene and to come to the assistance of Agausians in need. There have also been calls for calm and peace as tensions seem to be rising as more and more refuges seek asylum in Agausia.

V6, V8 gas guzzlers remain most popular vehicles in 2021/2 sales year

vehicles in 2022. Photo // Nexus Drongonia

New figures released by the Drongonian Transport Agency have revealed the most commonly registered new vehicles on Drongonia's roads for the November 2021 - November 2022 calendar year.

Of the top ten new vehicles, five of them were equipped either V6 or V8 engines, showing that Drongonia's high-horsepower love affair is far from over, despite higher levels of EV adoption. Just one EV made it into the top ten - the Polestar 2.

Drongonian-owned Nexus proved as popular as ever, with the second and third spots belonging to Nexus' range of gas-guzzling high horsepower luxury vehicles. The Nexus VX600, a 6.0L V8 luxury sedan, also placed in sixth. The winner, however, was the Toyota Blade II, with its 3.5L V6 hatchback platform proving to be both a successful and long-lasting formula for the Japanese automaker. The Blade II accounted for 8.7% of all new vehicles on the road, down slightly from last years' 9.5%

Environmental groups were not pleased with the findings. Stop Oil Drongonia founder Karl Stenberg posted "The genocide of our precious Earth continues unabated, according to the DGTA. Drongonians have a lot to answer for." on Peaker, referencing the report.

The rankings, released by DGTA, are below:
1. Toyota Blade II
2. Nexus DX400/450
3. Nexus CX560/570
4. Toyota RAV4
5. Northwerks NW300
6. Nexus VX600
7. Polestar 2
8. Toyota Corolla
9. Ford Ranger
10. Honda Jazz

With less than two weeks until elections what do the polls say
Author: Izabela Albert́i

Tamara - On 26 November Agausians will go to the polls and vote for their next parliament. All 145 members of the Agausian Parliament will be up for reelection. Despite being a nation of only 2million people ,Agausian politics, while not often exciting, are no stranger to twists and turns. Polls currently indicate that no party will win the 73 seats need for a majority. No single party has had a majority in parliament since the 1st Agausian parliament (1990-1992) where the Reformed Worker's Party won 76 seats in the 1989 elections.
block

Recently there have been several developments that have caused drama in the Agausian political arena. It now seems that the Socia Democratic Party, which has maintained a minority government on and off since 2006, will be forced into a coalition government with several partners. In June the United Alliance's party chair announced that his party would not support any government that they were not an official party of - a majority of United Alliance (GA) MPs have been a continuous support of the minority government in return for concessions. However, the party has seen an ideological shift back to the right and members of the opposition are likely hoping for the United Alliance's support. From its creation in 1998 until 2006 the GA was a supporter of the Agausian Liberal and its National Coalition.
block

Polling now suggests that only 7of the 14 parties running for parliament will meet the new 3% electoral threshold. The Centre Party, Protection Party and the Rebirth and Renew Party are all posed to lose their representation in parliament. The Democratic league of Agausia, which was formed in November by MP candidate Irine Anidaže, appears that it will receive the 3% needed to make it into parliament. With four members declaring their intent to join the ADL it is unclear how much political sway they will have.
block

If the numbers are to be believed, it is likely that Agausians will see the continuation of a left-leaning government, and with the recent reelection of President Simon Aioviḱara confidence in the government appears to be, at least, moderately strong.

ANZ's online banking service hacked, 160,000 users' logons compromised
Nelson, Drongonia
November 19, 2022 | Emma Hart

ANZ confirmed the breach affected over 160,000 customers.
Photo // TVDG File

In an unpleasant weekend surprise for many ANZ customers, the Australia-based bank reported that their online banking service had been compromised by what the bank is describing as "bad actors of corporate or state origin".

Affected customers were reportedly contacted by the bank earlier this morning to advise them of the breach, and to inform them that their online banking would be suspended until what the bank deems as "a thorough investigation into the unacceptable breach of customer privacy" is conducted. The bank is assuring affected customers, however, that their day-to-day card-based transactions and withdrawals will continue unaffected. Affected customers will be forced to either phone the bank or visit their nearest branch to check their balances, conduct transfers and change automatic payments.

ANZ Spokesman Tom Banks said in a statement to the media that "ANZ remains as committed as ever to customer privacy. The security of your data as ANZ customers is our top priority, and we will be conducting a thorough investigation internally in regards to the reported data breach that occurred yesterday. Our IT engineering team is laser-focussed on making our entire system watertight and ensuring nothing like this ever happens again."

In an email to TVDG, the bank confirmed that the personal data of users had not been affected. Data which had been accessed was in relation to usernames and passwords for online banking, IP and device ID details, logon dates and times, and other technical information. TVDG also confirmed that their fraud team had yet to receive any reports of bank accounts being misused following the breach, and that they would continue to monitor the accounts of those affected.

The bank has so far remained tight-lipped around the potential origins of the breach, but confirmed to TVDG that they are working with law enforcement and intelligence agencies to investigate the situation. ANZ's spokesman described the initial impressions of their security team as "leaning towards some sort of high-budget actor.", going on to say that "we think some serious time and effort went into this. We see hundreds of attempts to get into parts of our systems every day, and the complexity and the professionalism involved in this breach is something we've not seen before." The bank has also confirmed that the particular exploit the attackers used has been patched.

The breach marks the first of a major bank affecting Drongonian customers since a 2009 breach saw personal details of 1,500 Westpac customers leaked on a hacker forum. The Department of Internal Affairs is reportedly working with ANZ to reach out to those affected to offer support. DIA officials told TVDG that they would be "...monitoring the identities of those affected for unusual transactions and odd interactions with Government departments or service providers as best we can."

Following the incident, shares in ANZ (DGX:ANZ) fell by over 12% to a year-low of $26.03 per share. Conversely, shares in competitors National Bank (DGX:NBD) and Westpac (DGX:WPAC) rose by 4.3% and 3.9% respectively. National Bank's Peaker account also posted a tongue-in-cheek remark following the reports, saying "Maybe they should have stored their stuff with us?". The post received over 120,000 likes and 65,000 shares.

ANZ expects to restore service to affected users by Tuesday.

Same-sex Marriage Ban Finally Struck Down by Supreme Court

Image
Some citizens took to the streets adorning rainbow motifs in celebration
In a landmark ruling, Aristoria's Supreme Court struck down the defacto ban on same-sex marriage today. Citing Section 10 of the Constitution, which outlines equality rights and anti-discrimination, the Supreme Court voted 8-1 against the ban. Human rights activists and LGBTQ+ advocates cheered the decision, which makes same-sex marriage legal and equal to heterosexual marriage effective immediately.

What started as a number of separate legal challenges seeking same-sex marriage rights that took years to wind their way through the courts, the issue exploded onto the national scene when human rights lawyers proposed a class-action suit coupled with a "Public Interest Standing" - a legal challenge which seeks to ensure the government abides by the Constitution. Previous attempts to legalize same-sex marriage failed, either due to dropping off the legislative schedule or a failure to meet quorum. Civil unions, which afford most of the rights given to common-law heterosexual couples, were previously available, but now the government must introduce legislation to ensure marriage equality is guaranteed going forward - a promise made by President Henri Phillipe in his re-election campaign last year.

Early 2022 opinion polls suggest marriage equality is well overdue, with 70% of Aristorians believing that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry legally, a 15-point increase from 2012. Between 9% and 10% of Aristorians identify as LGBTQ+; approximately 55% of heterosexual Aristorians have a friend or relative who identifies as LGBTQ+.

First lady commemorates opening of Agausia's first pediatric cancer center
Author: Aṕora Beliḱë
Sunday Sunday, November 20, 2022

Image

Tamara - On Saturday the Agausian first lady celebrated the scheduled opening of Agausia's first pediatric cancer center in the capital city of Tamara. The Ḱedaris Mother and Child Health and Research Institute began construction on their pediatric cancer facility back in October 2019. It was originally expected to be finished in late 2021, but an expansion of the facility delayed its original opening date. The center has a capacity of serving over 100 patients and is likely to attract patients from all over the country and even young patients fleeing regional instability. In the months since the Russian invasion of Ukraine Agausia has welcomed several refugees from Ukraine who have been in need of cancer treatment, this has included a number of children.

The first lady, accompanied by Health Minister Emin Dančevi and director of the Ḱedaris Institute Mehmed Podori, attended a ceremony just before the opening date, which is on Monday. This marked a rare public outing for Narâ Mendeli, who is rarely seen at official public events. In a short speech to attendees the first lady hailed the work that the doctors will do once the facility opens. She also praised the work already being done by the Ḱedaris Institute, which operates facilities in Tamara, Romda and Tavšesapari. In the past parents seeking cancer treatment for their children would have to look outside of the country. Many parents sought care in Russia, Romania, Turkey and The Czech Republic.

Agausia is also hoping to attract talent from abroad and the Ḱedaris Institute has already hired several foreign doctors to head several departments at the new pediatric center. "We have the potential to do some great work here and I am grateful that we have been able to gather some of the best minds and they are dedicated to giving quality care to the Agausian people." Mehmed Podori said to reporters as the event was coming to a close.

Thai population of Kingsfield, Sandyfolds, Longnorshire engaged in rioting after policeman tasers Thai woman

Image

By

RIOTS BROKE OUT in Kingsfield, within the borough of Sandyfolds in Longnorshire after local police did a stop-and-search on Prahong Niratpattanasai, a 28-year-old Thai woman who has lived in the borough for 8 years.

Ms. Niratpattanasai was stopped on suspicion of having a damaged brake light on her 1994 Mitsubishi Galant saloon, although no evidence was found to support this. She has no criminal convictions and has resided here since 2014 when she emigrated from Bangkok, Thailand as a student.

Two male officers were alleged to have beaten her, then tasered her into unconsciousness.

Local Thai population, both natives of Thai descent and expats/immigrant Thais began rioting this morning as of 8:40am and protests began, with local officers called in to break up the riots and the riot squad called in.

Community leader Phatra Singharattanapan, 45, said:

This is not what we expect from our law enforcement and we should see justice done. The police must come to trial

This is breaking news, more as we get it.

PM under fire for "socialist", "authoritarian" comments about corporations
Christchurch, Drongonia
November 22, 2022 | Zach Sawyer

Image
Prime Minister English says he stands by his comments. Photo // TVDG File

Prime Minister Bill English has come under fire from members of his own party following remarks he made on TVDG's Breakfast news and current affairs programme.

During an interview with host Patrick Bauer, English was asked what he thought of the rising cost of roading contracts and the poor standard to which some roads are being repaired, something which has been debated in Parliament this week. In response, the Prime Minister stated that he believes "...corporations should be subservient to the state's interest." He continued with "...and that's why we pay them to fix our roads. When we tell them to jump they should be asking how high. If they don't do a good job, they should either be fixing it at their expense, or handing the engineering details over to another firm who can do the job properly."

Some National MPs were seemingly taken aback at the Prime Minister's words, with Minister for Broadcasting Mandeep Singh posting on Peaker that "...it sounded very socialist to me. Scary and authortiarian. I hope the PM doesn't truly mean what he said." Sam Gilroy, Minister of Foreign Affairs, posted on Facebook that he was "disappointed to hear such language disparaging the free market."

There is clearly a divide within the caucus, however. Minister for Immigration, Holly North, simply quote-posted Singh's tweet with "Based English moment", seeming to express approval of the Prime Minister's sentiment. Katy Pace, the Trade Minister, responded simply with "So true!", likely copying former US President Trump's famous "So true!" Tweet in 2020.

In a short interview with National Radio, Labour leader Sarah Ellice said she "agreed with the sentiment that companies should be working for the good of the people, in cooperation with the Government" but added that she "wouldn't have put it like that."

In a short post on Peaker, English said he stands by his comments.

Greens on board with new taxes on fishing industry
Author: Adrân Bčḱvâlakva
Tuesday, November 22, 2022

Image

Tamara - On Monday the Farmers' and Greens' Union (PMK) seem to have indicated that they will not vote against a new proposed tax on the Agausian fishing industry when it comes to a vote on the parliament floor next Tuesday. The bill aims to raise the tax from 15% to 25% for profits earned by Agausian fishers. In Agausia most industries that earn profits from the nation's natural resources are either state owned or heavily taxed. For example, the timber industry is taxed 45% and mining and mineral extraction 35%. The fishing industry, however, has not been subject to such punitive taxes. This is due to the fact that the fishing industry is made up of mostly small businesses or single fishermen. Some fishermen have already expressed their opposition to the new tax.
block

Agausian legislators in favor of these types of taxes have long argued that the natural resources of the state are owned by the Agausian people thus the profits made from exploiting these resources should be returned to the people via government services and welfare programs. T́et́âna Ḱozaḱi (AL) who represents the Slavuri Region's sixth district has come out strongly against the tax increase. "Families are already feeling the pressure of the poor economy. How do we expect Agausians to recover from this when the government keeps asking for more and more from them? At the end of the day, we need to ask ourselves if we [the parliament] are helping people put food on the table and petrol in their tanks...I believe the answer to that question is a resounding no." Ḱozaḱi, who sits on the committee for agriculture and food industry and whose father was the owner of a small fishing industry in Čagvra, has been a critic of the bill since its introduction last year.
block

The revenue collected from the tax increase will be dedicated into two main functions. The first being returning the profits to the Agausian people, and the second being the preservation and rehabilitation of the Black Sea. The latter was a concession made in order to get the PMK on board with the tax increase. In negotiations PMK party chair Abdulḱadir Piliṕovi made his party's stance clear, "any revenue collected must benefit both the Agausian people, and their environment." It is still unclear to many fishermen how a tax increase will end up benefitting them and their families.
