Today lights the summer solstice. As Earth's sun hangs in the sky for the longest it will this year, those by the ocean, on the mountaintops and on city streets celebrate summer's official flareup, though hemispherical counterparts enter the opposite season. For many, summer is a season of fun, excitement and festivity, but also one of sweltering heat, increased crime and natural disaster. Tourist attractions, cultural centers and public areas in general can swell with crowds and provide a boon to the economy, albeit at the perturbance of locals. Warmer weather and longer days make it a perfect time for vacations, camping trips or other destination adventures that adorn picture frames for years, and also inspires ideal conditions for artists of any medium to create. Children are released from school, and free from their responsibilities, often go on to disturb the internet. For us here in Dexterra, summer unofficially begins on 5 May (our independence day, or Independex Day) and from then until September, our coral sand beaches, avant-garde movie theaters, national rainforest parks, decorated museums and ethnic eateries become hotspots of activity with visitors from around the world; sometimes, however, the hottest summer spots are extra-chilly public pools, the local chapter of our law-enforcing National Compassion Administration or underground hurricane shelters.
Even if it's another season where you are, what's summer like for your nation? Is it particularly hot or mild, uptempo or relaxed, predictable or unpredictable? Dexterra hope you are enjoying today's solstice wherever you are!
