Summer in YN

Today lights the summer solstice. As Earth's sun hangs in the sky for the longest it will this year, those by the ocean, on the mountaintops and on city streets celebrate summer's official flareup, though hemispherical counterparts enter the opposite season. For many, summer is a season of fun, excitement and festivity, but also one of sweltering heat, increased crime and natural disaster. Tourist attractions, cultural centers and public areas in general can swell with crowds and provide a boon to the economy, albeit at the perturbance of locals. Warmer weather and longer days make it a perfect time for vacations, camping trips or other destination adventures that adorn picture frames for years, and also inspires ideal conditions for artists of any medium to create. Children are released from school, and free from their responsibilities, often go on to disturb the internet. For us here in Dexterra, summer unofficially begins on 5 May (our independence day, or Independex Day) and from then until September, our coral sand beaches, avant-garde movie theaters, national rainforest parks, decorated museums and ethnic eateries become hotspots of activity with visitors from around the world; sometimes, however, the hottest summer spots are extra-chilly public pools, the local chapter of our law-enforcing National Compassion Administration or underground hurricane shelters.

Even if it's another season where you are, what's summer like for your nation? Is it particularly hot or mild, uptempo or relaxed, predictable or unpredictable? Dexterra hope you are enjoying today's solstice wherever you are!

Feel free to let Facterra know how the following Multiversal Census can be improved by mentioning it in your reply, telegramming us here or by messaging our national headquarters on Discord (Dexterra#0042):

Hello All,

Rho Ophiuchi's response is below.

Unofficial/cultural start of summer: Mid-July, as that is when public schools start summer break.
Approximate official start date of summer (solstice): June 21st
Unofficial/cultural end of summer: Early September, as that is when public schools end summer break.
Approximate official end date of summer (equinox): September 23rd

Let's Talk About the Weather
Describe your nation's biome(s) (e.g. desert, ocean, space, etc.): Rho Ophiuchi is an extremely dense city. It would otherwise be tropical, but due to its massive waste heat release it is generally hotter than its surroundings.
What's the average daily temperature throughout summer? On average, temperatures drop to around 31 C at night, and go up to about 55 C at the end of the day.
Does your nation experience humidity, dry heat or something else (explain)? It depends - the humidity is usually inversely related to the temperature, meaning that especially hot days are usually dry, and especially cold days wet. This is due to the
What/when was your nation's highest recorded summer temperature? 71.9 Celsius - 6:02:30 PM, September 19th, 2021.

How long are the days during the summer? Slightly over 12 hours.
Is your nation vulnerable to any natural disasters during the summer, and if so, which? Tropical storms, hurricanes.

Let's Talk About Your Nation
How do your nation's people feel about summer? Citizens feel both ways - there are notr eally any strong opinions.
Does your nation celebrate any holidays during the summer, and if so, which? No national holidays are celebrated in Rho Ohpiuchi, though individual schools and organizations typically have holiday breaks.
What are your people's favorite things to do during the summer? Not much changes during the summer - however the Annual Rho Ophiuchian Automotive Exposition is a significant event that happens to be in the summer. It goes from July 1st to July 4th.
Can you describe your people's favorite vacations or trips to go on, if any? Most vacations during the summer are taken to places far from Rho Ophiuchi - anywhere inside of the city is a terrible vacation destination, so most try to get as far from the city as possible.
What are the three most popular places in your nation during the summer? While almost no-one visits Rho Ophiuchi for fun, many do come for business. As such, the most popular places are the Rho Ohpiuchian Steel & Oil Administration Building, the Rho Ohpiuchi Government Building, and the Annual Rho Ophiuchian Automotive Exposition.
How many tourists visit your nation during the summer, and where are their favorite destinations (other than above)? About 22,000 actual tourists, but about half a million business personnel.
Do your nation's schoolchildren go on summer break, and if so, generally through which dates? Uusually from mid-July to early September.
Which crime(s) experience(s) the greatest increases, by how much and why? Usually youth-related crimes increase the most, since the youth are out of school.

It is a holdover from the Chinese traditions, and is usually seen as a dividing ridge between spring and summer culturally, as with the "Coming of Summer" solar term.
In Nacrad, it is still widely considered to be summer in Mid-Autumn Festival, although this comes from a culture where autumn starts in August, not October.
