Shutdown of Islamic Paper Raises Questions in Ixana

Al-Rina, Ixana- A recent report from the Polytheism Sarda has reported well over half of former Muslims in the once-Sultanate of Ixana have become members of the Sarda. Officially, this is due to the relative ease of transference and the clear and obvious moral and factual correctness of Marshism, something that is of course beyond doubt. However, local conditions prove somewhat more complicated and a report from a local Ixanan paper- the Jaridat Alriyna- and the subsequent raid and shutdown of the offices of that newspaper have sparked discussion about the roles of non-Marshism and non-Sister Faiths in the nation.

Legally, there exists one faith in the Theocracy- Marshism- and a small number of Sister Faiths that are allowed to operate in the nation. Stevidian Catholicism, the Madokami Faith, the native Azen beliefs of Solisia- the number of such faiths are small, but adherents to those faiths are considered citizens and have officially sanctioned places of worship. More often than not, they are sanctioned and protected within the internal politics of the Matriarchy by the Polytheism Sarda, which quite willingly subsumes foreign faiths into their own sprawling belief system. However, there are occassional reports of the Inquisition shutting down places of worship of other faiths. While the numbers of non-Marshites and non-Sister Believers are, even in the boldest estimation, quite small, local scandals are the order of the day whenever a foreign place of worship is discovered. Lurrid teledramas about the corruption of youth by such organizations are a surprise hit on the Monotheism Sarda's television stations, though it is accepted to simply be part of the ongoing propaganda battle between the two. Indeed, it is often said that more actresses and actors have played a Scandinivian Christian on 'Ghugī Dē Pahirāburaja' than have ever existed in the nation.

Indeed, there has always been little reason for followers of non-accepted Faiths to live in the Theocracy. They are not citizens. Their religious rights are not recognized. The Theocracy is run on the precepts of a faith that in many cases stands in stark opposition to the belief systems of many foreign uncultured faiths. Private worship is technically illegal though only certain belief systems are actively and ruthlessly hunted down; public worship is universally prevented. What few foreign religious folk that exist upon entry to the Theocracy are in time either removed from society or, as is far more likely, slowly subsumed into the Polytheism Sarda, where their 'aberrant' beliefs can be reconciled with Marshism. Of course, over years, decades, generations and centuries, former believers of such faiths tend to become Marshites if they remain and the Polytheism Sarda proudly boasts of helping many wayward souls find themselves in Marshism where once they wandered darkly in other religions.

The situation is different on Ixana, if only because of local conditions. The former Sultanate had been well established for several centuries and the Islamic faith entrenched here. When the Sultanate collapsed and local Marshites called on the homeland to answer, the resulting addition to the Theocracy's nationhood was of unique characteristic. The majority of these new citizens were Islamic and while that changed quickly with mass migration to the island, there was little doubt as to the character of its previous leadership. The Inquisition worked ruthlessly to halt any attempts at radicalization and a vast military presence disallowed any large movements. Most importantly, several experts on the Islamic faith from the Polytheism Sarda started working immediately on converting membership of that faith to Marshism.

Officially, this has been a success. Over half of the confirmed members of the Islamic faith in Ixana have become members of the Polytheism Sarda, and most Mosques and religious institutions of that faith have been staffed by Polytheistic Elkons. Rates of religious violence on the island have fallen to record lows and of the remaining Muslims more than half have applied for a special status with the local administration, where they follows all laws and conditions for the period of Krama Pariva, or Gradual Conversion as given by the Arsi'Elkons. This allows those so accepted to enjoy the benefits of citizenship while not being members of the Faith, though they must by the end of the 2040s join the faith in good conscience or find themselves guilty of defrauding with their hearts and souls the Theocracy Herself.

Into this steps the Jaridat Alriyna, or Al-Rinan Gazette, the largest paper in the seaside city of a quarter million near the northeastern coast of Ixana. It has sparred with the local Polytheism Sarda administration in a number of ways. First it opposed its list of accepted dates for Islamic holidays that coincided with Marshite holidays. More pointedly, it has often tried to critizens the officially published Holy Books for Islam given by the Polytheism Sarda. However, its most terrible criticism has been reserved for what has become its final piece, what it purpots to be an in-depth investigation of the 'Conversions' that the Polytheism Sarda has touted as a great success.

Interviews with local Muslims and even former Sultanate officials indicate that while many have indeed converted, the pressure from the Sarda and the means of which they are achieving such high rates are 'immoral'. Magic Sarda aides, Citizen Cluster cybernetic mind control, Inquisitorial threats- the list goes on and they tell a story of a Sarda desperate to convert the local Islamic populace. The stories are as lurid as they are multitudinous and were for the most part little more than local gossip- until the offices were raided and several staff arrested by the Inquisition less than a day after publishing.

The reasons behind the shutdown vary wildly depending on who you ask. Locals believe the shutdown is due to the disparaging rumors published by the paper having the ring of truth to them, and the Polytheistic Sarda wanting to shut down any further investigation. The Monotheistic Sarda aligns in some ways with this, as it has often accused the Polytheism Sarda of approaching members of other faiths in immoral ways in an effort to achieve conversions. Still others say that the truth of the accusations and stories was less important to the Inquisition than the excuse it gave them to shut down one of the small number of news outlets that did not conform to the official Marshite narrative.

For its part, the Inquisition has said little more than it shut down the paper for 'collusion in illegal Sarda political matters' and has refused to elaborate further. The Polytheism Sarda has aggressively denied the accusations and local Marshites by and large have bristled. The Monotheism Sarda already has a drama prepared to be aired about the 'true story' of the Ixanan Muslims, while the Poltheism Sarda is threatening to unleash a torrent of 'harsh truths' about the conduct of the Monotheism Sarda's own 'faltering and unusual' conversion campaigns in neighboring nations. The Experience Sarda star Haljira Sincarla is unusually set to star in both series, a fact of some amusement considering the back and forth nature of the political infighting.

As for Jaridat Alriyna, little remains. Its digital presence has already been scrubbed, including local copies of their articles and digital archives. Only physical copies, what few exist in any case, remain and many of those are set to be destroyed by Inquisitorial agents. Already, high prices are being paid in the Hannera Marketplace, though how many sales are real and not tied to ever present law enforcement efforts remain to be seen. It is believed that the Inquisition will release a full report soon detailing what crimes the Alriyna and its staff are guilty of and what punishments have been doled out, and many local expect further efforts to be made against those who are part of the 'collusion'.

Major Flood event in Central Eserol
Bursinal, Forese Province

Image
(Bursinal neighborhood flooded by Catertaqua River)
A 3-day period of heavy rains in the Forese and Olam provinces of central Eserol has led to severe flooding of the Catertaqua and Olam rivers. Heavy storms trained over the mountains over a 72 hour period causing the rivers to overflow their banks in multiple locations. Fortunately today the region has been given a reprieve from the rain as drier air from the west has moved into the area and the Catertaqua River has crested this morning at 9am at 21'.

Helicopter rescues took place in the northeastern suburbs of Bursinal as the waters rushed over streets in the overnight hours. So far 1 bridge in the city has completely collapsed likely from washout of the bridge supports. The Fifth Street bridge in Bursinal’s Rutherforn neighborhood. Many other bridges connecting the Olam and Forese provinces over the Catertaqua River seem to have taken damage to different amounts. Major damage has also occurred on the E36 Highway to the east of Bursinal where a tributary river had completely washed out the roadway. Photograph shown below.

(Highway 36)
Minor flooding has also been occurring in Stasburg, Olam, but has been confined mainly to street flooding. No major damage has been identified yet and flood walls in Stasburg are not expected to be breached by the Olam river.
Provincial government leaders are expected to visit the region and announce disaster relief. Local officials have announced that so far 7 deaths in Bursinal have been confirmed due to the flooding. It is unclear if more deaths will be announced at this point but can absolutely not be ruled out. Even though the waters are now receding it is still a dangerous situation and residents are advised to stay away from fast moving waters. The river is full of debris which can quickly harm those attempting to traverse the water.

Port Aya - The state of Hoshino is in mourning today, as Former Hoshino Viceroy, Masako Hoshino was found dead on Monday at the age of 36 of a still to be determined cause but police at present do not suspect foul play. Lord Masako is the son of UIS Founder and co-constitutional scribe, Akinori Hoshino and elder brother of the current Hoshino Viceroy, Shinya Li. Sir Masako tragically suffered a complete mental breakdown after the loss of his wife, Lady Aya who was killed during a hurricane that ravaged the island in 2002. Despite his efforts, Hoshino found himself increasingly unable to fulfill his duties, naming his younger brother to assume his title. The Lord began to wander and drift about, usually staying on Hoshino but sightings are known across all states of the union. Despite his younger brothers best efforts, Lord Masako was content on living his nomadic lifestyle and in a state of wander. "My brother's state was still not well when I last saw him." Viceroy Li told the press, "His lost love, a beautiful woman, it's not surprising to have lost someone in such a way when you fought to protect her. It's enough to tear anyone up." At age 17, Lord Masako fought in AHSCA's war of independence and was present with his parents and late wife, Aya, at the forming of the Constitution and Deceleration of Independence, which ultimately took the lives of their parents, their father killed in action, their mother died as a POW. Though Lord Masako did not himself scribe his name, his presence has made him something of an honorary Founding Father on top of fighting in the Hoshino Militia for freedom.

In his time wandering, many citizens who interacted with Lord Masako always said he was generally a decent person, if not strange. Yuri Saki, A local vendor in Port Aya's Market Square recalled once seeing him, not recognizing him as a their Former Lord, "He was pretty deshelved. I figured him to be some kind of transient man, but he didn't want to cause trouble. He was a bit short on funds for food but I just gave it to him. He was friendly otherwise and just took his food and went about his way. Fumisa Miki, a local farmer from Kochi, a village 8 kilometers from Pt Aya, said he gave the man an odd job for a couple days. "I thought he might have looked a bit like him, but I just thought maybe it was coincidence. He seemed nice but I could tell he longed for a lost love as he mentioned. A few days later he was just gone."

A small funeral service will be held on Sunday. Duchess Villa has sent her condolences to Viceroy Li for his loss.

Ambassador Itsuki Takina Addresses GDRC After Vote

Ambassador Takina address council at conclusion of vote

Nova Orontes- The Greater Díenstadi Regional Council convened again in December after a hiatus period to bring to vote a tabled resolution proposed by Stevid on the establishment of a new committee of the GDRC to oversee humanitarian aid in response to any and all crisis that may arise from natural disaster, political terrorism and other conditions deemed as serious enough to render wide spread council aid. Proposed last June, voting finally commenced on the proposal the week of 26th December and concluded on the 10th of January with 10 votes in favor, none against and one abstention by The Federal Republic of Greal . AHSCA was the second GD State to endorse the proposal, with Ambassador Itsuki Tainaka first addressing the council to voice support for it. "AHSCA obviously no stranger to calamities," Ambassador told to the council, "With many nations greatly aiding us from our early post-war years to now even, if we can be of further service to them with this new comittee, please let us by creating this new committee." I further talked with the Ambassador about the resolution, "between strong hurricanes or occasional viral outbreaks or even shipwrecks, it seems like it would be a foregone conclusion we'd vote for such a proposal. The text has been agreed upon, I do hope Her Majesty will take it up."

All treaties must be signed and agreed to by the Duchess Villa though no official comment has come out yet, it really wouldn't be surprising to see the resolution given royal assent. Per the Ambassador, "Of course any proposals do get a quick review by The Honorable Officers and they saw no further issue with it, my words are of course meant to represent the council." AHSCA is committed to self-defense only by Constitutional mandate but Military action as apart of a humanitarian mission has been deemed acceptable, and it seems AHSCA too would be able to contribute to the new committee's operations when needed.

The Conditions That Slaves Had To Put Up With on SS Cornwall, Before Being Sold as Slave Laborers In Xofrautan (Pictures Courtesy of The Royal Navy)

After a week-long investigation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Social Care, and the Admiralty Board have released a full report on the SS Cornwall Incident. SS Cornwall is one of many ships of the Anglican Maritime Navigation Company to exploit nationals from across the seas, either lied to from poor families or abducted near ports, to become slave laborers in Xofrautan for little to no pay. It is estimated that one million people have been transported to Xofrautan, with an estimated £450,000,000 pocketed by the AMNC. Among those who were enslaved were three young adults from the United Island States, all three lured by the promise of pay working at sea. A brother and a sister from Cartoonia from the city of Oshinoko were taken, and several other nationals were forced away from their homes, including Holy Marsh, The Ice States, Tangatarehua, and Harannica, not to mention several other nations across the region. President Om Mandalik had no comment on the issue. Prime Minister Nehal Gurnani dismissed the concerns, as it was not important enough on a national level. The Phibetan embassies all across the region have issued lists of people who were found, with the embassies willing to compensate families and relatives up to £10,000 or the equivalent thereof.

The CEO of the AMNC, Leonardo Torrance, was to be arrested earlier at his county home estate in Callingham by members of the Callingham Constabulary, but when the constabulary with a warrant pushed open the doors, the found that Mr. Torrance was gone. He is now wanted at large by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of The Home Office. Several of the captains and sailors that worked on SS Cornwall and three other ships under the AMNC are under ships arrest at various Phibetan ports, with six other ships still at large. Various names have been dropped of those involved with the company, including manufacturing magnates, to business tycoons, wishing to exploit labor costs to maximize profits. One of the highest profiled persons named was His Royal Highness Prince Alfred, Duke of Wilmington, which bank statements found at the Callingham estate were discovered to have been bankrolled by the prince. It was no secret that His Royal Highness was in close company with Mr. Torrance, as the two have been known supporters of the Nationalist Party, it is unknown why they would do this. Political scholars have predicted that they being Nationalist in nature, they would have exploited nationals of other countries, either through bribery or through kidnapping.

“It is extraordinary how Mr. Torrance was able to get away with what they did,” said Mrs. Lidia Kolforn, the Chairwoman of the Martime Shipping Guild in Weston. “Modern mercantile laws have stated that all ships were to be inspected by port authorities within the commonwealth territories”. It was later discovered that the AMNC had funneled funds to buy out different commercial ports for their own use. And as the previous incident with the W&S Shipping Company’s ship, the SS Cardigan, shipping companies that have traveled to familiar ports for decades, have lowered security. Legislation is being pushed in parliament to ensure shipping companies practice uniform safety and security protocols.

Further investigations and searches are underway, with the cooperation of local Xofrautanese authorities. These monsters, sneaky as they are, will not get away with these crimes. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has placed a £50,000,000.00 bounty on Leonardo Torrance for his capture, alive. Many more ships flying the AMNC standard are to be halted with permission to navies and defense forces around the region. More information to be forthcoming.

Behind The Scenes Pictures of The Weston Royal Opera Company’s Production of “Ifa”

The Weston Royal Opera Company Opens “Ifa” With Large Fanfare. Presale Tickets Sold Out In Minutes

The Weston Royal Opera Company, riding high on the triumph of their recent spellbinding production, "The Butcheress of Sauville," has once again captivated audiences with their latest masterpiece. This time, they have set the stage for the revival of the 19th-century opera, "Ifa," composed by the renowned composer William Dochlaugh.

"Ifa" unfolds a story of the Tutonican Princess of the same name that has been captured by the Galatians. A fierce love story set in the age of bronze and swords. General Cairo must fight between his the young princess and the patriotism of his Pharaho and the daughter of which he is to wed. It is a story that is set in Ancient Phibeta, and Dochlaugh’s music, particularly the Triumphal March has been used in various ceremonies, including university graduations and knighthood ceremonies.

The production boasts a stellar cast, featuring seasoned opera virtuosos alongside emerging talents, including the national darling of the stage, Dame Alice Harwick, who played the Pirate Queen in “Pirates of Saunders” in 2019, and the Platiff, Christilina in “Trial by Jury” in 2021. Takashi Suzuki who previously in the ensemble in “The Butcheress of Sauville” returns to play General Cairo. All of the players and orchestra is under the music direction of the esteemed Maestro Victor Stellanov of the Alldenburgh Symphony Orchestra, an opera scholar and admirer of William Dochlaugh. The overall director, Alexander Karinsky has pulled all the stops to bring the Age of Bronze to life in this opulent production, that has roughly cost £50,000,000.

Audiences can expect lavish costumes, intricate set designs, and cutting-edge technology to enhance the visual and auditory experience. The Weston Royal Opera House, with its grandeur and acoustically impeccable hall, provides the perfect backdrop for this opulent production. This will be the first operatic production to use new technology such as the stage turntable, projectors, and screen mirrors in storytelling.

In a press conference, Karinsky expressed his excitement about bringing "Ifa" to the stage once again, saying, "We believe that great art is timeless just as it was with ‘The Butcheress of Sauville, and 'Ifa' is a testament to the enduring power of classical Phibetan opera scene by William Dochlaugh and many other contemporaries. We have spared no expense to ensure that our audience is transported to the heart of the 19th century, while still resonating with the emotions and complexities of our contemporary world."

The production has already generated significant buzz, with Presale tickets selling out rapidly. Weston's cultural elite and opera enthusiasts from far and wide are eagerly anticipating the opening night, which promises to be a spectacular event filled with music, drama, and the memorable magic that only the Weston Royal Opera Company can deliver. After the huge international success that “The Butcheress of Sauville” conjured up last season, it is so. It is even rumored that Her Majesty, Queen Diane II and the entire royal family will be in attendance.

"Ifa" is not merely a revival of a classic; it is a celebration of artistic prowess, a union of tradition and innovation that promises to leave a lasting impression on the hearts of its audience. As the curtains rise on this much-anticipated production, the Weston Royal Opera Company continues to solidify its reputation as a powerhouse in the world of classical and contemporary opera, enchanting audiences and ensuring that the rich tapestry of the performing arts remains vibrant and alive in the heart of the city. The show opens next week.

Crisis in Xofrautan: Famine and Political Strife Leading to Widespread Instability

New Migama - For nearly a year the economy of the Republic of Xofruatan has been in a state of shock leading to long widespread issues now culminating in a famine of serious concern as ongoing drought and crop failure has lead to severe depletion of resources to feed the population and maintain stability in the nation. The famine which has been raging for well over a year with seemingly ltitle signs of slowing or reversing course has now garnered widespread international attention from members of the Greater Dienstad region and nations from beyond as several nations race to send immediate international aid. That said, with the Government of Xofruatan repeatedly downplaying the severity of their famine situation. AHSCA too is pledging whatever aid that can be given but fears continue that the wider attention might cause a power struggle internally and externally as nations work to "stabilize the crisis" there is serious cause to believe not all aid will truly be altruistic. There is always opportunity in strife, what will arise out of this opportunity will have to be seen but for now, AHSCA is hoping to rally a quick decisive coalition around stabilizing Xofruatan and restoring order and the trust of the people.

Addressing the Greater Dienstad Regional Council on Wednesday, Ambassador Itsuki Takina proposed the Council take up the cause of bringing aid and security to the nation. First by calling the council to invite non-sitting members, Phibeta, the former colonial power of Xofrautan and of course Xofrautan to discuss this matter in full and bring about firm resolution. Having early endorsements by Holy Marsh and Cartoonia, The Ambassador's proposals were also met with interest from The Golden Throne, whom proposed further amendments to include and address the role of the recently codified Nova Orontes Defense Agreement (NODA). The Ambassador said she'd be willing to make changes as needed but further expressed concrns about escalating miltiary tentions while acknowledging the need for proper military oversight. Between meetings, the Ambassador spoke to the press, "Of course ideally this could be a sole DICAM operation" (DICAM being the Dienstad International Committee for Aid and Medicine) "But the reality is we may or may not be dealing with a hostile government, a government in denial or worse yet, foreign internvention by bad acting states. I'd say it is reasonable to consider a military intervention but hopefully as peacekeepers. As my proposals go through the discussion, we shall see what the outcome will be but this should be out chance to rally as a region and act in the interest of all our neighbors. What has an effect on one, will have large ripple effects, if the last three years alone have been any indication."

What else is of concern? Failed states often become harbors of serious crime and other grave offenses to human dignity and rule of law. Without it, issues like slavery, terrorism, crimes against humanity can run unchecked. Issues like these often do have spillover effects across the globe. There's also the general sense that AHSCA always has felt deep desires to help those in need. It wasn't that long ago in the wake of our bloody war for independence, AHSCA was staring down the same barrel of disaster and calamity. Firebombing left crops wiped out, returning and injured soldiers found villages wiped away, families lost, or torn apart, hundreds of people were overseas as refugees and in our great time of need, nations such as Holy Marsh, Lamoni, Phibeta, Cartoonia had stepped up to bring about a stable functioning state, the very existence of the UIS as a nation is likely thanks to the combined efforts of several states who secured our independence and made sure we'd see a brighter future. For AHSCA, it's clear she hopes to be able to help those in need and is hoping the GDRC can be the central function to that. Her Highness Duchess Villa has agreed directing the Ambassador to do what is needed to see if things can be worked out through the channels of diplomacy as she also hopes to organize a joint coalition with nearby Abetton and Katase in particular, (neither being GDRC members) to potentially work as that. Her Highness is also ready to deploy reserves of the UIS Military with specialty in humanitarian operations, such as the task force of the 1121st Platoon that responded to the bombings in Utica, Kyrenaia years back. Ultimately it will be up to the Xofrutan to allow AHSCA or other nations to participate in widespread humanitarian efforts and hopefully bring stability to their ailing country in their great time of need. Questions remain if that will happen but for now the wheels of diplomacy must continue on.

Arsi'Elkon's Plane Goes Missing In the Northern Vanguat Sea

Khaska, Holy Marsh- In a shocking turn of events, the Romani-Mar'si Union is anxiously awaiting updates on the fate of beloved Holiness Arsi'Elkon Luboski whose plane shockingly disappeared over the vast expanse of the ocean bordering northern Dienstad. Visa'vasa khab'hamte, the official title of any aircraft Her Holiness boards, broadcasted a singular burst of communication as it was rerouting to avoid a major storm that had come upon the extra-regional waters unexpectedly. While the plane was being tracked, observers noted a series of unusual movements, lost communications, and then the complete disappearance of the aircraft.

The Arsi'Elkon was on a diplomatic mission when the tragedy struck, a series of international visits the world over to better promote the values and good-tidings of the Theocracy. The aircraft, en route to her next stop in the Timocratic Republic, encountered adverse weather conditions of a previously unknown nature that prompted concerns among aviation authorities. This weather pattern is believed to have developed in a most unexpected manner and is even now growing in intensity, hampering search and rescue efforts.

Search and rescue operations have been undertaken by the Karda, though the closest naval vessels are several thousand kilometers away. International efforts by Marshite diplomats are underway to form cross-national efforts to find the Arsi'Elkon. The Karda is working tirelessly, deploying advanced technology and resources to cover the vast search area. The Magic Sarda has reported their relative inability to be of great aid due to the lack of magical leylines between regions hampering their effectiveness while the Tel'Quessir Communities have stated that no conclave of their kind exist nearby.

Clergy from many Sardas and the Karda itself have refrained from disclosing details about the incident until more information becomes available. Concerned brothers and sisters of the Faith worldwide are being asked to keep Arsi'Elkon Luboski in their prayers, awaiting updates on the situation and the well-being of Her Holines. Emergency meetings are being held to address the potential repercussions of the incident on domestic affairs. The Kerdan Council is being convened as is custom, with the Favored Sardas of the Martyr Lainika Amendment demanding a swift response. The only stated Agenda item is electing the Arsi'Elkon's temporary replacement per orders, High Practitioner Wren Ching Ley of the Combat Sarda. However, the El'kon Council itself has also convened a meeting on the same subject. Neither Council has of yet responded to requests to clarify this redundancy.

As the faithful world awaits news of the Arsi'Elkon's fate, speculation and concern continue to mount. How such an event could have happened considering the safety measures involved has sparked considerable discussion. The routes were being monitored and forecasting kept up to date with the latest models. The aircraft model, the Dahlku-700B, was made with the transport of Karda officials in mind and is renowned for its reliability and track record of safety. The crew are considered the best in terms of both skills as well as loyalty on a personal level to the Arsi'Elkons.

Conspiracy theories and accusations only briefly flew on fringe .htw websites and domains before being shut down by the Inquisition, who has stated that any foolish fearmongering and politicization of the incident will result in stiff penalties.
The coming hours and days will undoubtedly be critical in determining the outcome of this tragic event. The Marshite community remains united in hope, awaiting any information that may shed light on the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of our beloved Luboski, Her Holiness, amidst the unforgiving forces of nature.

********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Search Continues as Councils Meet

Mar'si, Holy Marsh- The search for the Arsi'Elkons continues, with Maestro of the Waves Admiral Uvarian Chaishki of the 28th Tactical Fleet taking over command of the search operations as the Fleet en Masse moves to conduct the search. Vessels and aircraft from the Sister Islands of AHSCA, the Golden Throne of Power, the Devoted of the Rightful Devee Nachuna Queen Lothwyn, the Free Peoples of the Lamonian Republic, and the Noble Republic of Eitoan have all been pledged to search, though considering the vast distances involved even more may be needed. While Chaishki has been mum on the odds of finding Luboski alive and experts detail what they consider the low odds, the Theocracy itself is facing an unusual development of two separate organizations each claiming to be enacting the emergency will of the Arsi'Elkons.

The Kerdan Council has traditionally been the ones to convene what is known as the Saka Tala, or Crisis Call, when the Arsi'Elkon is unable to enact Her duties while not being dead or removed from Her possession and necessitating the election of a new Arsi'Elkon. This meeting is considered mostly ceremonial, as all they are expected to do is elect in Her place her second-in-command to run things until a new Arsi'Elkon is elected or She returns. The Kerdan Council has dutifully met and elected, High Practitioner Wren Ching Ley of the Combat Sarda. High Practitioner Ley, a Solisian by birth, has flown under the radar of most but earned favor with Luboski over the decades as a personal friend, bodyguard, and effective administrator who handled the Solisian engagement with the Romani-Mar'si Union.

The El'kon Council however is much newer and has moved to hold its own Saka Tala. Speaker Claw Halas Cayne has stated that he believes the Arsi'Elkon, through her support of the El'kon Council and her 'foresight in allowing the will of the faithful to play a larger role in her governance', imbued the El'kon Council with unalienable governance authority as directed by the Faithful. Rather than electing a new supreme executive of the government, the Speaker says the Council is considering how to effectively rule the nation sans one and allowing High Practitioner Ley to handle purely religious affairs.

Neither Council holds the other's Saka Tala as having religious authority. The Kerdan contend that their role is mandated by tradition and a history of effective leadership in times of crisis. Most point to their long history of responding to such incidents and allowing the nation to continue without disruption. However, their authority has been questioned in such affairs by opponents of the Martyr Lainika Amendment, who are still bitter about many Sardas being consolidated into fewer power centers controlled by other Sardas. They believe that High Practitioner Ley, regardless of their virtue, cannot be given the authority due an Arsi'Elkons by the Kerdan Council and how it operates.

The El'kon Council meanwhile believes it has been given a broad mandate by the Arsi'Elkons through her support as well as a fuller religious voice thanks to the votes of the Faithful globally. Speaker Cayne has stated that he believes that the El'kon Council is uniquely qualified to handle the matters concerning the Theocracy as, indeed, "we are the Theocracy's voice, united and broad."
Opponents state that this is a clear broadening of the scope of the El'kon Council and not intended by its creators or by Her Holiness Luboski. With the Council being less unified in conduct than the Kerdan Council, there is also a belief that it will lead to greater incoherencies in government action, robbing the Theocracy of its lockstep march that gives it such power.

In any case, the dueling Saka Talas have yet to cause any notable friction as all sides remain focused more so on ensuring the Arsi'Elkons is found. Most Kardic agencies have continued functioning and society as a whole has been instructed to carry on their endless works without too much worry. How effective this is has yet to be seen, as the Alsertan Factory Divisio has reported a net loss of more than eighteen percent of the workforce output in the morning hours.

Falkowski Discusses Northwestern Military Assistance Agreement Expansion
Comments in Kramfors Regarding Volsku, FRCP

Secretary of Foreign Affairs Andrew Falkowski speaking to the press in Kramfors, Volsku breached the subject of NMAA expansion today. The Secretary was in Kramfors to assess efforts at mediating lingering disputes between Volsku and Fedravka following the First Ralkovian War.

In an unusually frank discussion, the Secretary let it be known that communications have been underway with the FRCP for a while regarding observer status for our northern neighbor. The request had been under study at a low level, but the priority elevated recently as the result of the moves against Kraven by neighboring Greater Valkolicci Haven. Vladarsik has expressed concern about possible Kravenite mischief in northwest Greater Dienstad, and is pursuing a quiet policy of backstopping The Haven in the event such problems materialize.

Secretary Falkowski said "These times call for all hands in Greater Dienstad to contribute to efforts to stem Kravenite influence. We will support any neighboring state in that effort, and are reviewing ways where we can contribute to their defense. If it is in the interest of the NMAA and the FRCP for the latter to attain observer status in light of this threat, we would be open to such a request. We are also giving some consideration to those in Volsku that have articulated similar interest."

Some observers at Foreign Affairs were surprised at the Secretary's announcement. Eitoan is currently mediating Volskuan claims against Fedravka stemming from the First Ralkovian War, when several Volskuan towns were handed over to Fedravka by retreating Ralkovian forces. The occupation has been a sore spot between the two states ever since. At this time, it is believed that the Fedravkan side has acknowledged responsibility for some damage to structures, removal of property, and environmental impact before withdrawal from the disputed territory. The emphasis of the mediation is said to be now at the stage of fixing a price to be paid to property owners and the Volskuan government for the damages. Some have questioned the wisdom of the announcement in Kramfors during the mediation, as it could be seen as bias toward Volsku.

Silarz and the End to Peace?

Image

18 February 2034
By Metodiy Kushnir, Lyubomir Radzoc

The Federal Republic has been stagnating, left adrift by its leaders and its political processes, says Ilya Markov, Representative from the Gorevian District in the Czaslyudian National Assembly. This statement is not unusual, particularly for the belligerent stands of Representative Markov, in a legislature increasingly divided in praxis while mostly sharing the same party. “Ideas and policies still flow from the top-down, not only from the Principle Chairman but the hold of the Dominance Front.” The Czaslyudian Dominance Front, recently rebranded to New Czaslyudiya, takes up 152 of the 155 seats, being the nearly unopposed winners of the first elections since Principle Chairman Afonasei Smirnov’s government was toppled. While the government under Bezukhov and early Silarz administrations was fairly unified on how to rebuild the country, that has recently changed as foreign policy is criticized and economic inequality mounts.

The dynamics of the National Assembly, based on voting and rhetorical behavior, can best be understood as existing on an axis; on the one end, trade and intervention, and the other, nationalism and isolationism. Recent events have served as a litmus test for many of the representatives and their convictions, serving to distinguish them from the general consensus of New Czaslyudiya party– the more isolationist politicians lamented ever having gotten involved in the Eternal Union and attribute the ensuing Macabean blockade as a contributing factor to the ongoing economic slowdown, while the more outward-looking colleagues point out the consequences of the Czaslyudian-Icer confrontation as evidence of Czaslyudiya’s lack of credibility and fragile economic base: one which must be built by opening the country up. Of course, the distinctions between the legislators is not a binary identity nor is it a linear scale. Several of the ethnic republics (Raskovyan Republic, Minstravian Repub., Repub. of Nor-Agar, and the Midia Federate) established after the end of the civil war with the Integration Treaty in 2022 have already made clear that their own should fill the ballot for New Czaslyudiya, introducing an ethnic dimension to the affair as well. As the increasing number of legislative deadlocks have made clear, some of these varying interests seem irreconcilable while under a chaotic, dog-eat-dog legislative order.

Can the New Czaslyudiya party survive this new Czaslyudiya?

The levers of government for the FRCP have, for twelve years, been dominated by the Czaslyudian Dominance Front. Both the Premier, the Principle Chairman, and the National Assembly were united in putting the nation back together again. Deadlock was rare, inter-branch infighting was unheard of, and disputes were settled with a rapid alteration of wording. Nowadays, however, the quarrelsome National Assembly seems to hold both executives in contempt in regards to policy as well as diverging internally on how those policy issues should be handled; will the dissolution of the Czaslyudian Dominance Front impact these processes? As it stands, a clear division in parties and their platforms is for the better, writes Stas Vasilache, Professor Emeritus of Law and Public Policy at the State Institute of Gorevia. “The legislature should not be thought about as a direct representation of voter preferences. Where a mob fails, legislators must succeed; they operate in a decision-making environment, and make voting choices based on rational understandings. This does not exclude them from voting the way their constituents would– to the contrary, in situations where they can vote like that, they will– but they vote according to a rational calculus, knowing the options of every other actor in the room.” Forming coalitions, Vasilache says, is integral to shaping the rational calculus of the legislative; by having just the one party (the three-seat Czaslyudians for Direct Application of Socialism, CPZS, barred from consideration for a moment) throws the rational decision-making up in the air, creating uncertainty. “When people know how to vote, and how others are going to vote, you’ll see the legislators running much more smoothly.”

But while the legislature has something to gain, what of the holdouts in the executive? The current Premier, Ilya Markov, and Principle Chairman, Anzelm Silarz, are both affiliated with the New Czaslyudiya party, and with the tumultuousness of the National Assembly, what would division between the legislature and the executive posts look like? “The Principle Chairman’s ability to run a government unopposed would be drastically reduced, for one.” Says Nina Avanenko, Vice President and director of executive affairs at the Josyp Shulha Institute. With such a division, any Premier or Principle Chairman of a different party of the majority in the legislature would find itself boxed in in terms of what it can do. If the Premier is found to be unsatisfactory in party or performance, the National Assembly can expeditiously remove them from their post. As the Principle Chairman represents the nation more on the international stage, the executive needs the Premier to run domestic policy and administration– going without one is a no-go. “Thus, the Principle Chairman would need to compromise with the National Assembly, constantly and in-depth, to ensure unity in government.”

In regards to the Principle Chairman, there is no risk of removal from office– as of now, the 16-year term limit still stands (whether or not the sitting Principle Chairman will live to see it through is another question). However, needing indirect National Assembly approval of his policies in a post-New Czaslyudiya world would significantly limit the foreign policy actions the executive can take. Specifically, with a majority-isolationist National Assembly, Silarz’s current foreign policy projects– principally that of reinforcing Chazrir against Automailian aggression, and of regional integration with NW Greater Dienstad, including formalizing a relationship with the NMAA. These two projects sit in a muddle of controversy, largely due to an undecided national strategy which hinges between returning to isolationism and regional focuses or embracing the international order, with neoliberal policies and international intervention. The FRCP’s present situation in the NW corner of Greater Dienstad is a state of isolation from their close neighbors while simultaneously infrequently involved in faraway major international undertakings, such as Craxx and Chazrir– on the state of the legislature beyond the dissolution of the Czaslyudian Dominance Front hinges the future course of Czaslyudiya.

Prince Addresses Domestic, Foreign Issues

His Majesty Prince Harold issued a statement this afternoon concerning public discussions about elevating the throne to kingship, and about potential diplomatic developments in the Great Inland Sea region. This follows discussions since the beginning of the year with Prime Minister Shapira, and with Foreign Minister Count Abravenel.

Text of Prince Harold’s Statement
With the Help of Heaven

I, Prince Harold II Fragev, Lord above all nobility of Agar-Na, defender of the faith and champion of the Agarese people speak to the concerns of the nation.

I have heard the discussion in the press and among my beloved subjects regarding possible elevation of the Throne of Agar-Na to kingship, and acknowledge the love of my people that forms the basis of this interest. And I reflect upon you, my loyal subjects the love and affection shown to me and the royal family. The elevation of the throne to kingship is a complex matter, not to be undertaken lightly. It must be given the utmost attention in all aspects, legal, religious, diplomatic and financial before taking the first fledgling steps. I have never anticipated such a change, but given popular sentiment I believe this warrants further study. Those in favor of such a change would be well advised to bring their thoughts to the attention of their Popular Assemblyman. I have instructed Prime Minister Shapira to let the opinions of the Popular Assembly be his guide, assisted ably buy the Lord Attorney General Vincent Ciernik. All opinions within constitutional reason should be aired freely at the Popular Assembly. And I think responsible parties should observe closely the results of the recent reforms enshrined in the constitution as an indicator of the magnitude and velocity of any change of this importance. Agar-Na is moving forward on the path of responsible popular representation. But this is not a matter to take lightly.

The road to a truly Agarese national identity has been a long one, since the grant of independence by Ralkovia in 1975. My family has sought to serve the people since then. This prime mission has been passed down from father to son. I have educated my son, Prince-Successor David that service to the Agarese people is the prime purpose in his life. And when the day of his succession comes, he will teach his children this too. The Raskov emperors that granted independent status to Agar-Na and designated my family to serve as your soverign are now long gone. The world has seen despotism replaced by freedom. It is natural that some here would therefore see it fitting for their monarch to be elevated to a kingly throne, no longer dependent on any ties to our former metropolitan power. But in the interests of stability all aspects of such a change must be fully and publicly vetted.

It has also come to our attention through the Foreign Ministry that there may be opportunities to enhance the security of our nation, and the Great Inland Sea Basin depending on potential changes in neighboring Czaslyudiya. I will not comment directly on any political changes in the Federal Republic. That would be inappropriate. Czaslyudiya and Agar-Na have been on generally good terms. Should the administration in the north so desire, we stand ready to lend a sympathetic ear to their sentiments regarding association with the predominant regional alliance, of which we are a proud member. Membership in the Northwest Mutual Assistance Agreement, even at the observer level would lead to a reduction in diplomatic and military misunderstandings in the area. I am told by Foreign Minister Abravenel and others that such a step could also lead to better economic integration with our neighbors. This could lift the standard of living for many of the states in the northwest would by providing efficiencies of scale, and spurring business development in all participating states. I am also told that such integration could make the northwest a powerful economic and financial bloc. In any case, as always, we extend the hand of friendship to the Czaslyudian people regardless of potential change.

I Have Spoken.

Harold II Fragev, Prince of Agar-Na

President Safadi Addresses Nation Key Highlights

President Sergey Safadi has made an appearance as we have entered this new year. In it, he covered topics from the crisis in New Imperiosa and our Eastern borders, issues abroad, to the economy and future goals and much more. Here are some of the highlights of the event.

Situation in New Imperiosa and Craxx

It appears that New Imperiosa, a former colony of the Empire of Belhorizon under Tony Adaimi is among the latest states that, though historically stable, is now faced with an uncertain future, possibly even collapse as conflict in the mainland has forced the colonial holding to seek a its own path. That has been assisted by our republic and President Safadi, who did not mince words.

"Today the situation is still unstable. Well-armed, violent groups roam and attack much of the state, especially along our border, connecting them to illegal gangs and criminals. Attempts to destroy or detain them have been difficult and at times costly in these early months. However, we have expected this, and we expect it will not be easier for some time, but I know we will win. Our side in this issue has logistics, training, bravery, a legitimate cause, and a future of opportunity and progress. Some of these groups do not seem to have political ambitions of any kind, only an interest in pillaging. Others were born from a desire to be free. I again make an appeal to meet and work with us. Our nation and the wider region at large will not allow anarchy, piracy and terrorism to go unchecked. We will continue to support Governor Orwell and will work to see New Imperiosa become a better and safer nation."

Reactions have been mixed from different armed groups in New Imperiosa. Some, particularly the most violent and seemingly least politically involved, have not responded, though a few did with threats to any forces that wish to oppose them. Some leaders have responded with a willingness for discussion, but also skepticism, particularly towards Orwell's government, and again warnings against any possible deception. With the start of a new year, it will probably continue to be a difficult one in this part of Bazh.

President Safadi also then touched on something that has sharply divided members of his own UNP (United National Party) and the opposing DNP (Democratic National Party) that being the issue of events in Craxx, which is gaining more attention in Kolechia. After a major over-seas war, the Empire of Craxx fractured and collapsed. The President believes that the nation should establish a secure foothold and maintain a presence as multiple nations, including many participants of the recent fighting in Krasnova, which has finally ended (at least for now) have set up bases. This would be another major security thrust by the President who also led Kolechia getting involved in New Imperiosa. President Safadi argued it was not historically the nature of our country, to be involved in a situation like Craxx. However, with the situation there in shambles it was better for security purposes to become involved. He also argued that our nation has recently not had much of a choice recently, especially in New Imperiosa, as little to no action could have led to serious consequences. Most surprisingly, because the situation has been worse in Craxx compared to New Imperiosa, the administration has argued for the pioneering of a new space governed by and a part of Kolechia, as a new province. Leaders of the National Democratic Party (NDP) have staunchly opposed the idea.

Update on Foreign Affairs
The President also highlighted the recent mild success in diplomatic relations under his tenure. The still newly built and renovated "International district" has become more active over just the last few years as the government has shuffled foreign embassies and consulates there. It has also been noteworthy as the President has sought to repair Kolechia's diplomatic program with the rest of the region. The nation's diplomatic operations abroad suffered heavily years ago during the outbreak of war, as did the economy, and forced the government to suspend its work in most nations. Fixing this was further slowed by the second decline in the economy at the end of President Abramov's tenure. Safadi ended the segment by reminding the region that "Kolechia is a nation that will always defend itself and value its survival. A nation that seeks peace, development, business, and cooperation." The President specifically mentioned positive relations with the Mokan PUF, specifically Wellovia, which has been assisting in New Imperiosa, and is rumored to be involved in the administrations interest in Craxx. Also mentioned was the Lamonian government, and a newer addition, the FRCP. The Czaslyudian government has recently agreed to trade deals and strengthen diplomatic contacts in historic negotiations. In one known deal, the FRCP has agreed to sell small arms that the Kolechian military has wanted to inspect, in exchange their military will be supplied by an unknown number of ballistic missiles. This would be the first negotiation involving military supplies in a number of years, since the Lamonian government assisted in the procurement of anti-aircraft equipment. It would also be a historic moment that our government would offer such advanced weaponry to another state.

2024 Census Announced

Separately from the president's address, the government will be launching the 2024 census across the nation. It is expected show both a modest increase in the population, mainly ethnic Kolechians, but also an increase in foreigners, many of whom are also refugees, though their numbers are still believed to be small. According to the last census, the nation was home to around thirty-four million people. There had been a significant dual increase in the number of people living in the largest cities (13,940,000 people) as well as those in smaller towns and farms (20,060,000 people). Officials believe this trend has continued since the last census.

The Craze and Gossip on Phibeta’s Celebrities and Film Industry

”The Tower” and Other Films To Compete In Foreign Film Festival!! Here is The Latest From The Stars and Director

Image

The Stars of “The Tower”, Dame Clara Snider and Sir Alexander Dimminoff

G’Day Magazine Has Been Given Consent To Publish Interviews and Any Statements Made By The Studios and Celebrities

Phibeta’s Film Industry may have stagnated for several years, but this year will hopefully prove a return to the grand films of Phibeta’s Swinging Sixties. Seafrost Film Studio has announced that Sir Anthony Warlock’s film, “The Tower” has been submitted for consideration for the 2024 International Film Festival hosted by the Royal Sauville Film Society. Seafrost has plans to spend over £1,000,000 on travel and accommodations in Sauville, Abetton for the cast and crew to be present at the event. “The Tower” is a romantic drama that has its basis on the Fairy Tail Comics that come out of Isla Exila written by Mangaka Haranobu Miyata, adapted to the screen by Sir Anthony Warlock (KPE, FRSA) who is famous for such films as “Tim Daily” and “Candoode” both adaptations of books. “The Tower” is inspired on what is often dubbed the “Tower of Heaven Arc” which is based on what Mr. Miyata had heard about of the Tower War of 1960, which was a coalition war between Cartoonia, what was left of the Phibetan Empire, against magic cultists that enslaved citizens to build a tower to the “gods”. As Mr. Miyata wrote what might have happen, had freedom coalition forces never intervened in the Tower Rebellion, this film asks what if that rebellion never happened.

“The Tower” follows Erza Scarlet, played by Dame Clara Snider (DPE) a slave since she was a child as she tries to fight for her, and her friends’ freedom from the tower that has enslaved her for years. Jellal Fernandes, played by Sir Alexander Dimminoff (Knight Bachelor, recently inducted for services to the Theater), is by her side during the rebellion, but after a tustle with the guards, he is slowly being driven into the darkness, and who knows if Erza will guide him back. A lot of the film’s music is mostly based on “The Piano Concerto No.2 in C Minor” by Sir David Valentino back in 1901.

G’Day had the great fortune to interview Sir Anthony and many of the cast and crew.

When asked of why he wanted to adapt this story into an alternate epic, Sir Anthony responded with “I wanted to create this alternate universe where the fight for freedom becomes more and more out of reach that would take a fierce and brave to lead slaves to freedom”.

When asked what style he was trying to emulate when making the film, Sir Anthony stated that “I wanted to emulate the golden age of cinema, movies on a grandscale, large, realistic sets, cinematic screenshots, and dynamic acting”.

We asked Dame Clara her thoughts on playing Erza Scarlet, she stated that “It was a surreal playing a character that looks almost exactly like me. I loved the character growth she goes from a weak and timid slave, to a strong and brave rebel that wins in the end”.

We asked Sir Alexander his thoughts on playing Jellal Fernandes, he stated that “I usually am type-casted into playing a stoic, brave, and calm characters that get into trouble by the end. I’m glad the trope is turned around on this one. Jellal reminds me of myself when I was a lad in acting school about his age.

Film composer John Yellow did most of the film score, but we asked why he chose to base the score off of the Piano Concerto and he said “Sir Anthony had this on a temp track, but I loved how the score sounded that I tried to incorporate themes from the concerto. It was by coincidence that the piano concerto was being performed by the Weston Philharmonic Orchestra when we were filming so we had a great recording session for it that day”. As a sidenote, the Weston Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing Sir David Valentino’s Piano Concerto to coincide with the film festival that week, with pianist Casey Galloway as the featured soloist.

This isn’t the only film being submitted for the festival. The D’Iddly Waggon Company’s production of the Rosie and Williams’ classic comedy operetta HMS Apron and Trial by Jury (as recorded by the PBC) will make its international debut in an exhibition approved by the Ministry of Culture and Media as a showcase of Phibeta’s classical tradition.

We wish the cast and crew of The Tower the best of luck at the festival

-Randy Quill, Head-Journalist for G’Day!

Théodore Cortot, age 20 was arrested in Berlina for theft of a patriotic poster containing the image of the Founder and Leader Isidor Mueller.

Berlina, Ordenstaat - A foreign national belonging to the Castillian Federation has been arrested in Berlina. Théodore Cortot, age 20 was part of a tour group which was sight seeing several monuments across the city. It is said in the incident report from the local Protective Police who subdued Cortot that he had wandered away from his tour group visiting the Triumphal Arch and upon finding a patriotic poster with the image of the Founder and Leader Isidor Mueller proceeded to take it down and hide it on his person. Fortunately a near by bystander saw this and alerted a nearby Protective Police foot patrol who found Cortot and the poster he attempted to steal and apprehended him. Upon arriving at nearby Police station he was questioned and through suspicions was then transferred into the custody of the Ministry of State Security for further questioning. It would later be revealed that Théodore Cortot was a agent provocateur sent on the behest of the government of the Castillian Federation.

Cortot's personal luggage and belongings were later seized from the hotel he was staying in and it was found that multiple reading materials had been found which were hostile propaganda against the Greater Ordenstaat. The Castillian Embassy within Berlina would be notified about the arrest of Théodore Cortot, and the 20 year old would be later seen in the People's Court brought up on charges of espionage. The trial would result in Théodore Cortot being found guilty on all charges and sentenced to 20 years in a detention facility.

POPULAR AUTHOR ARIKI RAWHITI RAKAU FOUND DEAD AGED 58

18th March 2024

KAITOHURA
Ariki Rawhiti Rakau, one of Tangatarehua's most influential and bestselling authors, has been found dead aged 58 in an apparent suicide.
Image

Rawhiti Rakau was perhaps best known for being the creator of the internationally popular children's cartoon Magic Wand: Gifted Children (also known as 'I have impregnated these children with my large and powerful rod' thanks to a poor localisation in some languages). His novels have sold over 30 million copies internationally and have been translated into dozens of languages, with varying degrees of success.

Born in the southern city of Rangipukuriri in 1965, Ariki Rawhiti Rakau came from a Toa (noble) bloodline but despite this says he grew up "almost dirt poor", especially after his father was sentenced to two years of forced labour in 1974 for opposing Tangatarehua's ruling military junta.

The young Ariki said he withdrew into his imagination to overcome these difficulties, and this is where his love of writing stemmed from.

He studied fine arts at the Imperial University of Kaitohura and even claimed to have befriended Princess Putiputi (who is today Her Sacred Majesty the Empress) during this time, although the Imperial Household Agency have never publicly verified this story.

He published his first novel in 1986, before gaining success with the comic book series Magic Wand: Gifted Children in 1989, which he illustrated himself. It was adapted to television in 1995 and gained international attention in 2000s, albeit initially due to its comically poor translation into English.

His works were widely popular not just in Tangatarehua but throughout the world, with his life-affirming themes of beauty and truth always overcoming the forces of darkness and death resonated with readers and viewers all over the world.

Shortly before his death he posted an apparent suicide note on his website stating, "I have always lived in hope that the forces of darkness could be held back by love and beauty, however today the darkness seems to have engulfed me and I no longer see beauty of love in this world. I therefore cannot continue to remain in a world where cruelty and deception are treasured more than love or truth."

Prime Minister Tangaroa Wirihana said that Ariki Rawhiti Rakau's death was "a very sad day" for Tangatarehua.

"Ariki Rawhiti Rakau was instrumental in helping Tangatarehua project soft power through the export of our culture to young people abroad. His works have inculcated Rehuan values into the impressionable minds of foreign children, laying the groundwork for their brainwashing and the inevitable resurrection of Tangatarehua as a global military hegemon. Oh, ugh, please don't print that last part, I forgot that was all top secret."

Meanwhile, literary scholars say that Rawhiti Rakau's death casts a new light on some of his recent novels.

"His most recent works were rather difficult to interpret thematically," says literature professor Marama Kahurangi of the Imperial University of Kaitohura. "Suddenly his last three novels - 'I am very sad', 'Please someone kill me' and 'Seriously guys this novel is really just a cry for help and I'm thinking of killing myself' make much more sense in light of his tragic and untimely passing."

For many Rehuans, particularly those who grew up in the 90s, the positive messages of his cartoons will always resonate with them.

"There's a catchphrase in MW:GC that I think is universal," says Moana Aroha, 23, a grieving fan. "In the show they often say, 'The only way for the human race to survive is for us to all bend over and allow a powerful magic rod to fill us with its love juices!' and I think that's something that all people from all cultures can relate to."

Students Learn UIS Political Process Through Mock Elections

Students get hands on experience about learning AHSCA's voting process

Good day readers at home and around the world, please do indulge me in a special report, by me, Kirie Gozen (of no relation to Lady Officer Gozen), a young student hoping one day to join the UNICIM Press as a reporter, for now as a part of my graduation and study process, I've been tasked with submitting this open story for our press. Thank you for your time.

AURORA - In AHSCA, elections are held every 6 years for the legislative body that represents us for The Duchess as well as craft the laws we will be expected to follow. The age to vote in the UIS is 17, thus many of us have some time to learn the ins and outs of our system of government, which consists of traditions of a Monarchical system combined with that of Democratic systems. No doubt, every one in the nation has their opinions about which system should be on top, but it isn't unreasonable to say a good majority of people like the system we have. March in AHSCA is a month of independence. Some nations celebrate their independence with boisterous celebration, ours is a more quite celebration, and there are two big reasons, one is because it is roughly the time the seasons change as we emerge from our wet deluge monsoonal period of summer to our sunny season of winter and second is the first week of September marks our Holy Festival where we truly celebrate our lives and culture on our little islands. There are also a few who argue that because our bloody fight for freedom was so recent, it's still regarded as a melancholic occasion but I must digress. Because March is marked as our month of reflecting on independence, we students take time to really learn the ins and outs of our system of government, as I mentioned. Every school and every teacher has their approach to this, traditional lectures, reading the text of our founding documents and Constitution and even sometimes participating in a Mock Election.

My school, on Aurora in the bustling Aurora Port Village, opted for not just a mock election this year, but even a mock Congress, with political campaigning, promises to be kept. For my school, we represented each state of our Union, with two students each taking on the State, doing their best to represent that state's ideals. For some that was easier while others it took a lot of research. "Originally I am from Corona," Said classmate of mine, Folieca Nebulo, said as she won her election. "I feel I know all my local Tribe's [tribe a more archaic way of describing Corona's local government] insights and politics would be for the national level." By contrast the gal who ran with her, Tempesta Mononimo also from Corona admitted complete ignorance but her reasoning for running is different, "Born on the outside looking in, [meaning she was actually born and raised here on Aurora] I feel more a sense of great national pride and duty to a country more than just the people of my ancestral land. The the Tribal deal with the local matters but we as a Congress have to think what is best for the whole of the nation."

For those who had to research, the task was more difficult indeed. Tamaki Tama, was chosen to represent Hoshino Island. "I did a lot of reading of the island's history, people, Government. From the days it was Aurora's Subject to now as an autonomous state. It took a lot. But it was fun." And all respective candidates had similar perspectives, some knowing the life and culture very well, some opting to represent it strictly and others wanting to approach from a more collective stand point of what national unity is about. Those spectators who voted and listened found the experience fun, interesting and enlightening. Classmate Madoka Shizure and her twin brother, Yuki Shizure both felt the same when they spoke to me. "It was amazing, in a few years we'll be able to do this for real when we have a new national election for our Congress." Her brother Yuki, echoed adding, "I know some schools overseas have Student Congresses. Maybe we in the UIS can do that too

Perhaps not all were so enthusiastic, after all, in a society of free thoughts and expressions, apathy is certainly born too. Kokoro Kome, was one, "We already learn all this in lecture, it's not rocket science." She said. Another boy, Koji Kondo, one of the older members of our class told me, "Personally, I'd like to see the UIS become a true republic government from the top down with direct elections for a President or Prime Minister of the sort, rather than the odd system we have now. I personally chose to abstain out of protest of enforcing such a stupid system."

As you can see, a very wide array of reactions, opinions and choices at this. The values of a democratic process on full display among our nation's youth today and in this month as we remember those who sacrificed and died for us today, so that we have these chances to properly voice our opinions, be of support, dissent or maybe somewhere in between.

BARJAANI CHRONICLE
Reporting for Brajaanistan since 1987

Falzaah, the capital of Barjaanistan rocked by a wave of violence.

FALZAAH- The city of Falzaah has over the last few weeks been the scene of a new wave of violence carried out by armed groups present in Barjaanistan. The city as of late has been the host of a growing conflict between the Potthani Brotherhood and the Zenith Front for the Conquest of Barjaanistan. Both groups seek to expand there influence and control over Barjaanistan and also lay claim to the country which has brought them into conflict with each other. For several years the Potthani Brotherhood have been at odds not only with the governments of Barjaanistan and Potthan and foreign powers such as Castille but also Zenitharian militant groups. While the Potthani Brotherhood are largely a nationalist movement who seek to bring areas of Barjaanistan under Potthan, the Zenitharians motives are purely religious in nature and wish to establish a theocratic state.

The most recent wave of violence occurred when a bomb was detonated outside of a Zenitharian place of worship where practitioners had gathered killing 30 and wounding 80. The Potthani Brotherhood later took responsibility for the attack claiming that it was targeting Zenitharians outright. The outrage came swiftly with violent protests and rioting occurring in a 3 day period which saw dozens injured and several killed by Zenitharian lynch mobs before Barjaani authorities were able to restore order. It was not long after that Zenitharian militant groups begun to carry out retaliatory attacks with many of these attacks being attributed to the Zenith Front for the Conquest of Barjaanistan. These attacks largely targeted Potthani's themselves and members of the Potthani Brotherhood which have left dozens more dead and many wounded.

This has led to several instances of open warfare in sections of the city between Potthani Brotherhood militants and Zenitharian militants. The fighting has resulted in the deployment of the Barjaani Army to Falzaah in an effort to stop the bloodshed and crackdown on both groups activities within the city. It has become apparent that this conflict between the two groups are rapidly spreading across Barjaanistan and threaten to de-stabilize a large swathe of the country including the border with Potthan. It has yet to be seen if the recent Barjaani Army operation in Falzaah will lead to much if any positive outcomes.

New Czaslyudiya Dissolves - Divided Assembly!

Image

Vyacheslav Kubiyovych

1 April 2034

The altercation between Representative Vlasovych, Gorevia, and Representative Egorov, socialist opposition leader from Lymanya, was hardly the highlight of proceedings in the Czaslyudian National Assembly last week. Alongside weeks now of political deadlock and up-in-the-air votes over desperately-needed regulatory bills, what was written in stone for months has finally come to bear. At the eleventh national convention of the New Czaslyudiya party, held in Sladkoye, the visit of the Principle Chairman was met with a clamor of questions.

The loudest one was the question on the future of the party, and how its hold over the legislature should be resolved. Silarz, speaking to the audience of over eight-hundred, feebly announced the death of New Czaslyudiya.

“It is clear that the prohibition on political association outside of sanctioned parties no longer accommodates the will of the people,” Silarz read from his notes, and “the stability of the Federal Republic must come first. Democratically-elected representatives must be allowed free association on the basis of platform and political convenience.”

A statement released to the press by the Silarz administration on Thursday urged the High Court of Czaslyudiya, the central judicial body of the Federal Republic, to assess the procedure on the transfer of political power. This comes from the current heated debate as to whether all current representatives should be re-elected based on their new platforms. As of today, the President of the High Court has produced a response:

“The judiciary cannot rule on any course of action regarding the formation of new political parties; however, we find it in the best interests of the Federal Republic to strike null and void Assembly Bill L440, which consolidated political legitimacy in the body of the New Czaslyudiya and Czaslyudians for the Direct Application of Socialism parties.” Says President Oleksandr Zabrodsky.

The clearing of this obstacle has opened the floodgates for rallying cries from every corner of the unicameral National Assembly, from which many Representatives have made wide-reaching appeals for new platforms, and new ideologies.

At the forefront now is Ilya Markov, sitting Premier, calling for a party to represent the unions. As head of government, his ties to the National Assembly have been most effective in rallying a distinct group of representatives drawing heavily from the Gorevian and Popoyan Districts, the industrial heartland of the nation. “Czaslyudiya’s workers have for too long languished under corporate shill, cosmopolitan leaders– Czaslyudians cannot sell their soul for balance-of-trade and allow our industry, our livelihood, to wither.” Says Anna ‘Ninotchka’ Potapenko, Representative, Gorevian District.

On the other end of the spectrum, many of the former primary ideologues of New Czaslyudiya have seemed to abandon the old guard at their posts, leading the charge with cries for liberty, ethnic equality, and economic liberalism. “The big tent Czaslyudian Dominance Front” – former name of New Czaslyudiya – “stifled and tabled the vital agendas of Czaslyudians who are not Czas, but still citizens. For many, we have citizenship but none of the rights! Good riddance to the flogged-to-death dictatorial holdover.” Writes Sergiy Berlinskyy, advocate for the Midian tribes in the FRCP’s northeast.

“I hope for progress to come to Czaslyudiya. The horizons for our peoples will be reached in peace, not in division.” Said Czaslyudian the Principle Chairman.

Wassily Kazakov dies at 78!

Image

Vyacheslav Kubiyovych

April 8th, 2034

On April 7th, 2034, Wassily Artemovych Kazakov has passed away at age 78 in his home in Maksima. Long-time weapons manufacturer and premier Czaslyudian billionaire, Kazakov was the chief executive, then permanent board member of the Wassily Universal Rifling Company, and led the company from relative obscurity to the sole domestic supplier of the Czaslyudian Armed Forces in a single decade.

He was born on February 25th, 1956, in Klen, a rural town in the now-Popoya District of the Commonwealth of Czaslyudian Peoples. When he was seventeen, he took a position in his father’s mechanic shop, and by 1976 after his father’s passing Kazakov had taken on operations there. Slowly, Kazakov shifted the shop’s operations from motor and bicycle repair to tools and firearms, leading to the creation of the foundation of Wassily Rifling. In 1984, as the Commonwealth was destabilizing, Wassily Rifling supplied the KB-14 battle rifle to the Armed Forces acquisitions office, winning the contract and bolstering their company.

By 1989, the first year of the First Federal Republic, a mixture of heavy-handed state involvement and paranoia resulted in the dispelling of foreign sources of armament, leading to heavy investment into Wassily Rifling, which was later nationalized during the First Civil War that same year. Wassily Rifling became the Wassily Universal Rifling Company, which acquired numerous bureaus charged with producing vehicles, ammunition, body armor, and even aviation under heavy state scrutiny. During the Second Federal Republic (1989-2022), the Wassily Universal Rifling Company was privatized, but not cleft from its many holdings. This inadvertent state-bestowed monopoly led to a rapid blitz of acquisitions, ranging from information technology to raw materials, pharmaceuticals to financial services.

During this privatized period, Kazakov held off incorporation and held the company under his sole direction, until 2019 where he stepped back and allowed WURCo. to become a corporation, with him as a board member. At its peak before 2020, his company had a gross revenue of 223 billion Czaslyudian bills, or 160 billion NSD, dwarfing every competitor in the market.

Kazakov has been criticized on both sides of the political aisle, with claims ranging from moral to criminal. During the Second Czaslyudian Civil War (2020-2022) Kazakov was chastised for supplying loyalist forces, an act of which went mostly unpunished by the new government. As well as that, WURCo. has been charged with fostering government corruption, bypassing national export laws, clandestinely supporting foreign insurgencies, and operating its own impromptu security forces, flying in the face of Czaslyudian law. As of 2034, there have been repeats of these charges, occasionally making their way into the legal system but typically summarily dismissed on lack of evidence.

Without the dynamic lead of Wassily Kazakov at the lead, it is said that the loss of his influence will affect WURCo.’s relations with the National Assembly, who are now forming into polarized voting blocs. Already, not a week after his passing, Representative Chuikov of the Ondorya District has called for a dismantling or nationalization of the WURCo. empire. Such a proposal includes dividing the industrial and economic holdings into semi-private conglomerates or industry groups, which allow for limited state intervention to direct economic growth towards the interests of the FRCP. Regardless of any future action, it is evident to most that Wassily Kazakov and his industrial giant has had a profound affect on the politics of the FRCP, whose ripples will not be going away soon.

Clark Nominated for Chief Auditor

Shrdlu Names Warren Territory Auditor to Succeed Jacob Thirion.

With the mandatory retirement of Chief Auditor Jacob Thirion looming at the beginning of August, President Shrdlu today announced his choice of successor, Warren Territory Auditor Margaret Clark. Mrs. Clark, widely respected among elected officials in the territory and among government audit professionals had been rumored to be the top candidate for the job in recent days. The nomination will make her the second woman to hold the Chief Auditor’s office, the only other one being Moire Magdougal in the 1940s.

Mr. Thirion, 71 served his full ten year term after nomination by President Shrdlu’s predecessor, Saul Ben-Joseph. His final vote of affirmation in the Ghastak was unanimous. This is likely to be the case for Mrs. Clark, as the post is viewed by most Eitoans as nonpartisan. Mr. Thirion retires in conclusion of a 35 year career at the National Audit Office, serving as Assistant Chief Auditor for Legal Affairs before being tapped by Mr. Ben-Joseph. His tenure has been uncontroversial for the most part, except for some grumbling from some leftists in the Dashez early in the Shrdlu admininistration about alleged stinginess in his reviews of urban transportation and secondary education programs. The complaints muted after the first round of legislative elections in Mr. Shrdlu’s first term, but have recurred more frequently in the last five years. Complaints have been largely limited to reaction from local Socailists and Communists, and to their newly elected members of the Dashez.

Mrs. Clark has been the Warren Territory Auditor for the past four years. Nominated by the territory’s Free Democrat Governor General Shirley Martin, she is viewed favorably by top members of the National Institute for Auditing and Governmental Audit Practitioners Association. It is believed that the boards of both organizations had a great deal of influence in putting her nomination forward to President Shrdlu. Governor General Martin has reportedly strongly recommended her to the President. Mrs. Clark, nee Robertson is a native of the Blue Island suburb of Or Akiva, the second of four children of Michael Robertson, an orthopedic surgeon and Ellen, a homemaker. A precocious child, she graduated high school at age 15, entering Warren Territorial University on full academic scholarship. Upon graduation, Mrs. Clark joined the firm of Mowery and Associates as a management trainee in Blue Island. While at Mowery as a trainee she met her husband Barry, now a department head at Consolidated Retail Holdings. She rose rapidly in the Blue Island office, achieving partnership at age 25, almost unheard of in the profession. Four years later she was managing partner of the Blue Island office. The firm’s business with Warren Territory territorial and municipal government expanded during her tenure, and she was often tapped to review contracts for the firm in Kelso, Vladarsik and Berwyn. With the birth of her three children Mrs. Clark had taken more of an advisory role in the firm before being tapped for the Territory Chief Auditor position.

The National Audit Office was established by Chapter 5 of the constitution. The Chief Auditor’s term is ten years, and is not eligible for reappointment. The nomination heads to the Ghastak for majority approval, then passes to the Dashez for majority approval. If approved by both houses, a final vote of 2/3 assent is required in the Ghastak for the nominee. Given her strong recommendations by professional organizations, no significant opposition is expected to the nomination. The Warren Territory Chief Auditor is a non partisan position, and Mrs. Clark has received high praise from territorial legislators, as well as from the finance directors of Blue Island, Russellville, and Ayr.

Preliminary Military Budget Discussions Reveal Left-Right Split

Socialists, Communists Propose Accelerated Fleet Expansion

The draft release of the High Command’s three year planning report has revealed a difference of opinion between left leaning legislators on the one hand, and President Shrdlu’s Free Democrats and the conservative Civic Platform on the other hand. The report indicates a continued primary emphasis on land and air/aerospace defense, reflecting Eitoan commitments on continent, a staple of defense and foreign policy across the political spectrum. A 2.3% increase in regional integration spending above the previous three year plan is largely attributable to bringing Agarrese and Federal Ralkovian militaries up to Northwestern Mutual Assistance Agreement standards, following their admission to the alliance. It is not known if possible addition of Volsku and Czaslyudia to the alliance is a factor in the increase in that line item. The addition of either state, as full member or observer is only a matter of speculation at this time. The plan indicates a continuance of the current pace of naval upgrade with respect to Shartourn Sea.

Indications are that the draft will receive approval from centrists and conservatives in the Legislature. Recent moves by the Shrdlu administration have been largely in response to the Kraven threat, expanding the theater of coverage to the northern continent above the Shartourn Sea. While direct action against Kraven outside the region is not on the table, Eitoan maintains defensive capabilities for states in the neighborhood should they come under Kraven attack, or subterfuge. This would indicate a strong land or air based response in such an event. The upgrade works in synergy with Agarese and Federal Ralkovian capability improvements, giving Eitoan forces greater flexibility and support throughout the subregions. In a short statement, Chair of the Ghastak Louis A. Herb said “Eitoan now has important regional responsibilities. I believe, at first glance, that the gist of this plan will serve those responsibilities”.

Leftist Dashezniks and Ghastakers have responded with questions about the adequacy of the planning in terms of needs for a stronger naval presence in the south. One Communist Ghastaker, who asked to remain anonymous commented “With the current NMAA expansion I believe that we need a presence in the Shartourn, linking coverage by our Inland Sea and Jesheoda Channel fleets. A threat to Agar-Na, or to linkage to Federal Ralkovia could become a point of weakness, and we need to foreclose the possibility of this exposure. As it stands, we have little coverage in Libete Bay or the Greater Shartourn Sea. The addition of Volsku as a treaty ally would make a Shartourn Fleet more critical.”

Other Socialist Ghastakers have mentioned the importance of linkage with Marshite naval forces in southern waters. Although not a treaty ally, Eitoan has been in close coordination with The Matriarchy both in Federal Ralkovia, and the Jesheoda Channel. It was also noted that both countries have interests in bolstering Tupenga against any designs against it, seen mostly as possible hostile actions from Fustera.
