Welcome to Baggieland and Sylestone for the third Aussie Rules World Cup, the competition for the sport Australian Rules Football. With twenty sides drawn into four groups of five, the top two will progress to the quarterfinals, where they will be vying for three consecutive wins to lift the trophy. Which of the sides will it be?
Groups A and B will be played in Baggieland and scored by Sylestone, while groups C and D will be played in Sylestone and scored by Baggieland. Each nation should produce a roster with 18 starters, four interchangers and as many reserves as you want.

[Sylestone]

Sylestone is a tropical island nation located in the region of Esportiva. The nation is home to 25 million people and sentient objects who are sure to welcome your national side and supporters to the country. Being a wonderful tourist destination, there are many things to do in off days, including going to the world-class beaches, rainforests, reefs and of course the amazing resort of Felton Island. The nation also has a reasonably high level of technology that ought to make everyone feel comfortable, as well as an efficient transport system. The economy is unsurprisingly run by the tourism industry, although the dairy and agriculture industries are significant in size.

Sylestone is roughly 750,000km square and generally takes about twelve hours to travel by car from Dunkirk in the northwest to Kirkham in the southeast. However, it will only take two if travelling by aeroplane and ten if catching a train. A physical map of Sylestone will be found below and we hope you enjoy your stay in paradise.



Dangers
Sylestone may be beautiful, but like many tropical countries, it is not without its dangers. The nation is full of snakes, spiders, jellyfish, big cats and many other deadly predators. Also watch the Mwimbi Bimbi fruit that will kill if touched, let alone swallowed. It looks like an ordinary plum but with thorns on the stem. Remember to watch out for elves in the Melville Rainforest surrounding Emacuton and Chamberley, they will kill anyone who seems to cause disunity. And whatever you do, do not offend the sentient objects of Kirkham…

About: Despite being primarily used for cricket, the nation’s national sport, this ground can also be used for Aussie Rules football. The stadium is located right by the beach and it is not uncommon to see professional sports players having a swim after a match. However, do not miss Felton Island, a famous tourist resort off the coast, the reefs and the rainforests that surround Chamberley.

Arena of Sentients, Kirkham
Capacity: 23,000
About: Located in the same sporting complex as Sentient Oval, the Arena of Sentients is a smallish stadium located in the centre of Kirkham. But the beauty of the place is the fact that it is home to the sentient objects of Sylestone. Stoves, microwaves, you name it. You’ll find them here. We hope y’all in Group A will enjoy this place!

Capital Stadium, Avondale

About: The largest Aussie Rules stadium in the country, Capital Stadium is a massive ground among the world’s great ones. Located in the capital, there is much to do, including visiting the many landmarks Avondale is famous for, such as the Chivalton Reef, Avondale Zoo and Mount Gobble.

Merindah Stadium, Betham
Capacity: 37,000
About: As it seems to be the theme with Betham sporting stadiums, Merindah Stadium is located near the seaside in the suburb of Merindah. It is reasonably large, although looks small compared to the Bay Reserve. The stadium is quite cramped, so any noise made will be amplified. The atmosphere is electric and players almost always enjoy playing here.

Welcome to Baggieland

Baggieland is a tropical island nation with a plethora of sun-kissed beaches lined with majestic palms. There are plenty of water sports to enjoy such as surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving on pristine coral reefs, together with a vibrant and exciting nightlife. Visitors can also venture into the unspoiled wilderness to experience jungle trekking, white water rafting and mountain climbing in this nation that has it all.





There are four main cities:

Hawthorn is the capital and by far the largest city. It has the nation’s sole airport, which serves international flights only. It surrounds Lake Throstle, which actually isn’t a lake, but an inland sea.

Albion has Baggieland’s only deep-water port and is the centre of all international trade, as well as being home to the Baggielandian Royal Navy. It is an industrial city and the only one without a beach, so most tourists avoid it.

Stoney Lane and the nearby Ark Island have the best snorkelling and scuba diving spots.

Bunn’s Field has the best surfing beaches and there are also good snorkelling and scuba diving locations around Birches Island.

There are three smaller populated areas in the Three Degrees region:

Regis Island, Batson Island and Cunningham Island. These islands have good surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving as well, but they are best known by scuba divers for the abundance of ship wrecks.

There are no cars in Baggieland, but there is a very efficient public transportation system. There are trams within cities, trains between cities and ferries to the islands. All of which run every few minutes from early in the morning until late at night. The longest route, Cunningham Island to Ark Island, takes no more than five hours.

The people of Baggieland are all vat-created – so every citizen is 24 years old and shall remain that age forever.

All Baggies are sport crazy, the nation comes to a standstill every time a game is being played. The players that make it to the top of their game are treated as gods.

Are you wondering why there are so many ship wrecks in the Three Degrees Region? There is a rogue submarine HMS Onslaught that operates in this area. They approach the ferries looking for booty and often sink the ships if they’re not satisfied with the takings (they always allow the passengers and crew into the lifeboats first – no one’s been lost – yet). If you should find yourself in this situation, well… you’re on your own.
Danger rating: 5/10. They might be satisfied with their booty.

As Baggieland has an equatorial climate, there are sharks in the seas off the coast, but no shark nets. If you should find yourself up against a tiger shark while enjoying the beach life, well… you’re on your own.

Baggielandian women are very beautiful, but beware the black widow scam. If you should find yourself in your hotel room with no memory of the previous night and all your money gone, well… it’s your own fault.

Aussie Rules National Team Kriegiersien

This sport is, like most non Olympic sports, on an amateur level in Kriegiersien. The team send to the last World Cup consisted out of the Rugby Sevens National team (Defense), players of the reigning champion Scorpion City Kangaroos (Midfield) and Association Football players, Strikers from the Soccer Champion Timesteam (Forwards).

That failed so miserably, that the structure was changed. While the midfield from the Scorpion City Kangaroos stayed, All-Star team players from the new northern Orcleague replaced the Soccer and Rugby players.

Coach is again the legendary Crush Bandycoot.

Typically, two editions of any newer competition are hardly enough to forge a genuine rivalry between or among teams.

That has not been the case for the Sarzonian national Australian rules football team.

After winning the first competition against host nation Baggieland and finishing third with a dramatic one-point victory over HUElavia, the Stars have no shortage of potential rivals in this code of the sport.

For starters, there's Baggieland, once again tapped to host an Aussie Rules World Cup after they solo hosted the inaugural edition. This time, they will be joined by Sylestone, the hosts of the most recent World Cup as the host nation. The Stars defeated Baggieland during the group stage of the inaugural edition, providing the hosts with their first defeat. That loss sent the nation of Baggieland into mourning, while the victory was greeted by confused shrugs in Sarzonia. The shrugs turned to celebration when the Stars beat Baggieland in the championship final to become the first-ever champions of this competition.

Then there's group mates HUElavia. Sarzonia defeated HUElavia handily during the group stage of ARWC II and then edged past them in the third place playoff to retain a spot on the medal stand after a loss to Baggieland in the semifinals. The Stars will open ARWC III against HUElavia in Albion.

Stars manager Katie Sampson said she looked forward to starting off with a challenge right off the bat.

"It's great to play a match against a highly-ranked side so early in the competition," she said. "There won't be any sleepwalking. We're going to have to get after it straight away."

The Stars will wrap up group play against Alice Bay, the other team that is ranked in Group B. Sampson warned reporters against fixating on ranks at this early stage of the competition.

"A committed unranked side can still do serious damage in a competition," she said, noting that Sarzonia's national lacrosse and basketball teams won the third editions of their respective competitions as debutant nations. She also pointed out that both teams laid early claims to being the best in the history of their sport.

"The lacrosse team won five titles and only lost one finals match in their history," she said. "Basketball went to, what was it, seven consecutive finals? Eight? They won four titles. It's tough for a new team to qualify right out of the gate in a well-established competition like the World Cup or the World Baseball Classic than it is for a team to do well in a newer tournament." She also added that Delaclava won the World Cup of Masters in their debut in the third edition after host nation Sarzonia failed to advance out of the group stages.

"You can make a lot of hay in a third edition of a competition when you're a new team," she said. "We're going to have to be mindful of that."

Australian Football History: Australian football has never had a huge footing in Juvencus, as it has mostly been relegated to a sport of the fringes of the nation. As such the entirety of the squad is consisting of French-speaking players from close to the borderlands of the nation. The history of the sport and how it came to Juvencus is largely unkown, though it is speculated that it was brought over by an English-speaking population from the planet earth through a portal during the 1950s, though they disappeared just as fast as they taught the sport to a select few people.

The Hebitakish team waws not much of a show last time around. The team had made a good start winning first game against Ethane and the second one against Quemorr Islands. But that was it. The next two games were disasters as the team lost both against HEUlavia as well as Sarzonia which pushed them off from the road to the world Cup. Though we expect better this time. The team is a bit more experienced as it has alreeady played a world cup and the Footy league has been running quite good. The fans are expecting good results.

A slow start and a win for the Eagles

Behind at quarter time, the Eagles grinded out a slow win over our inexperienced opponents. A win is a win, that'll be the main takeaway from the game, but in order to defeat the best teams in the competition, things will have to be executed better going forward. After the quarter time deficit, some inaccurate goal kicking saw us just take a six-point lead by the half (36-30) just up 25 points from quarter time. The second half was all ours, with 40 points in the third quarter and another 30 points added in the final period. In the meantime, the Quebecois stalled out from 30 points at half time to 65 at the end. That's what the World Cup often looks like early on: teams can't always translate their training form directly to match form. The Eagles' plan obviously was to overpower our opponents on speed and power, getting the ball down the field as soon as possible, knowing that a 'lesser' opponent can't keep up, and once in the pocket, make sure to take the most secure kick possible. This was where the Quebecois got pressure on the Eagles instead, which made Archer, Wanbin, and yFwstedd miss a few early shots. As seen in the score, they got better as the game got along, though they remained suspect in one-on-one marking battles. Wanbin finishes the day on three goals and five behinds, while Archer got 2.4 and yFwstedd made 2.3. The best goal kicker was arguably Trutman, who took few shots but at least landed all of them: three goals, nothing else. On defence, yMilfmhan and yGeollrhom never let the Quebecois forwards get away with anything, but most of their goals came from a bit further out. Clarke and yFfachwis just didn't look as safe. Easily the best unit were the midfielders, so to speak: yPaeblws, yDoffchis, and Lawarjarro were near flawless on the bounce and yGwllcwl and Minrong were fine advancing the ball on the flanks.

Next up are Juvencus, who had the first round off. We'll have our round off after that. In round four are the scary Kriegiersien, who beat up on Ecabo in the meantime, which will likely decide who wins the group, from what the rankings suggest. In the final game, we're up against Ecabo.

Ko-oren still sit in fourth in the rankings, behind hosts Sylestone (1) and Baggieland (3) as well as Sarzonia, but ahead of other contenders like HUElavia, TJUN-ia, and we'd like to put Kriegiersien in that list as well, at least for now. Our status as fourth is a little disputed: we've simply taken part in all tournaments so far which is rewarded by the formula. As for actual performances: we lost in the quarterfinals to HUElavia (who are ranked below us). In the first ARWC, we did make the semis, but lost to eventual champions Sarzonia. Sure, we might be fourth, giving us a protected status in the group draw, but we have a lot to do to sneak up on the top three.

[Central Antarctic Peninsula]

CAP Fullfoward and captain Mark Gregson has called out Sannyamathland's tactics in there first round clash, where they were defeated by United States of Devonta.
'The disgusting hit and run tactics deployed by Sannyamathland are strongly condemned by the CAP national team. They were dirty, hit late on virtually every mark and deserved the loss. We look forward to thoroughly dismatling you in round 2'.

Ruckman Marcus Zimmerson also commented, "I don't know who that opposition ruckman is, but I don't care. He looks like he is 5 foot 1. He goes in with the leg Mason Cox style, but he won't be able to get his skinny leg above my shin!'

CAP will meet Sannyamathland in round 2, and it would appear that there will be no love lost.

If you don’t understand the counting, don’t worry, the most Orc players from the Kriegiersien team didn’t understood it either, they just smashed their opponents in a brutal game. Thanks to the class of the midfielders from the Scorpion City Kangaroos, who could connect the brute force of the orcish strikers and defense the team took a step to the play-offs.

Quebecois Acadiana is the next opponent and underdog who has to be beaten, before with Juvencus another nation without history in this sport are the third adversaries who "is to be smashed and stomped” as defender Drakmiguld Bonesong phrased it, maybe the decisve match to reach the next round.


A nice news comes for all the fans of the sport. A new agenda from the government, respectively the president himself, says that a World Cup title also in all not Olympic sports is now striven for. Hard.
Massive funds will be put into sports like Lacrosse, Aussie Football, American Football, Cricket, Croquet, Darts, Golf, Calvinball and others.

More professional leagues, more scouting for talents and training camps for national teams will be built up in the next time to reach this goal.

Ah yes, the Capital Stadium in Avondale - a stadium many a footy fan back home will certainly remember from the last Aussie Rules World Cup. The Jaguars of TJUN-ia were preparing for their 3rd ARWC and as the 2nd best team in this group on ranking, the expectations were high as many wanted to see David Scott's break the Finals duck this time around. The only real issue entering this first game was the scenario we entered into: we're at Avondale facing a ravenous crowd and the defending champions themselves: the Hawthorns of Sylestone. Oh lord mate, here we go...

This contest would certainly be all about one man: Sylestone's own Lachlan Fiedler. Fiedler would be the epicentre of this entire game for the hosts and defending champions, scoring 5 goals and 4 behinds while assisting in another 45 points in some way. He was certainly a machine and no matter what Scott threw at him, he seemed like a superhero out on the oval today. That's not to say TJUN-ia didn't do anything to try and save their sanities, as we are not Kangas . Steven Cox scored 4 of our 8 goals today while both Gregor McHulton and Joe Kelleher showed some signs of promise overall, but this would be the Fiedler show overall as the hosts began their title defence with a 46-point win.

So not the best start to this 3rd ARWC at all, but it could've been a lot worse. We will now have a bye on MD2 before our 2nd game in Avondale against our first unranked opponent of the campaign: the United States of Devonta. GO JAGS!

[Sarzonia]

Rivalries don't develop when one team is constantly beating the other. They take both teams winning matches, in particular, important matches against each other.

It may be only one match to kick off the third Aussie Rules World Cup, but the battle between the Sarzonian national Aussie Rules Football team and HUElavia has the makings of turning these two countries into rivals. HUElavia defeated the Stars 102-99 to mark the first time in the three-Cup history of the tournament that Sarzonia lost its opening match.

"We came out ready to play," Sarzonia manager Katie Sampson said of her team, "but so did [HUElavia]. We've got to do a lot better from here on out."

The Stars (0-1) defeated HUElavia during the group stage of the second ARWC, then won a close contest against HUElavia in the third place playoff. She wouldn't commit publicly to calling HUElavia a rival, but the glare she gave a reporter who asked her if the loss was meaningless in the big picture of the group stage and a possible berth in the knockout rounds spoke volumes.

"Every time we lose, it's a disappointment," she said. "Especially to a team we have experience against."
