WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 50
EVERYTHING THREAD

LINK TO POST CONTAINING INFORMATION ABOUT CASSADAIGUA CITIES AND STADIUMS: Click Here

It is the golden edition of the World Baseball Classic, and we have a record turnout for the competition! 78 nations! Incredible!

Are you planning to dominate this competition, but what to know exactly how to go about it?

First: Create a roster. This will get you a roster bonus. Not all rosters get the same bonus, though, as some are made to be real fancy and look like a ton of time and effort was spent in preparing it. They will get the higher roster bonus. But, if all you want to do is list a bunch of names, you will still get something.

Then: Roleplay, roleplay, roleplay. You can have success here as a first time nation, but you have to work for it, too.

Within the roster, many people also provide descriptive information about their home stadiums. Half of your qualifying games will be played within your country, and this a great chance to showcase your venues to the world.

IMPORTANT: When creating a roster, you should include the following information and the specific corresponding answer for your nation. This is important, because the person who roleplays the game first is the one who determines how a score is arrived at (assuming they have roleplayed a game summary). The answers to these questions are whether or not they are able to do the following things concerning your nation.

RP Permissions:
Choose my run-scorers: Yes/No
Choose my lineup: Yes/No
Follow my Pitching Rotation: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Eject my players: Yes/No
DH used at home: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
Other Info:

What they mean:
Choose my run-scorers: Can the opponent decide who scored for your team. Note that this includes ONLY how you’re individual players may have played, on an individual level. If you’re opponent says their starting pitcher struck out 15 of your hitters in their 1-0 win, then that is fine regardless of your answer, because it is a direct individual fact about the performances of their pitcher. If you answered no here, and they then said a particular batter struck out four times, then and only then do they violate this permission. Moral of the story, saying no here gives you control over how your players play, only. Not how the opponent’s players play. Most users answer yes to this.

Choose my lineup: Allows the opponent to determine any old lineup for your team. Most teams will include a lineup, and set this permission as no, and to follow their lineup. However, if you don’t really care, feel free to say yes.

Follow my Pitching Rotation: Same general idea as Choose my lineup, but with the rotation. Tip: Always check your opponent’s RP for their prior game to see if they declared a starting pitcher for your game, as well.

Godmod Scoring Events: This allows your opponent to be very specific, in complete detail, about your runs scored.

RP Injuries to your players: Answer accordingly. Some nations will include a caveat here that they are allowed, but only to say a play was hurt and nothing else, so that they can be the one to determine what happened.

Godmod Injuries: Taking the above to the next level. Can they do whatever they want in regards to injuries. Answer accordingly.

DH Used at home: Whether or not we use the DH is determined by the home team. (Much like it is in Major League Baseball). Here you are saying whether or not the DH is used when you are home.

Eject My Players: Can they eject your players? Some nations will include a caveat here as well that “for every one you eject your team, you can eject one/two/or more on mine.”

Godmod Other Events: We get silly on NS Sports. You have to have fun once in a while, after all. What this is asking if is the opponent can RP something completely crazy and unrealistic about the game, such as “the catcher put a spell on the basestealer as they were running, to make them fall.” or, “The pitched ball became invisible, so the batter had no hope.”, or even “Space aliens invaded, and decided they liked our flag better, so they helped our team with their significantly advanced technology”. If this kind of fun is for you, then put yes. If not, then put no. If you’re open to it, but don’t want to be completely caught off-guard, a message to say “telegram me your idea first” is common.

Other Info: Is there other information about your team you want us to know about? This is usually about a team’s playing style. A nation with an aggressive playing style may say they always look to take the extra base, and want to steal a lot of bases. A nation that wants to have their team to be explosive may want to say they score most runs via the long ball. Or, it could be to say something about your pitchers, like to never have a starter go more then 5 innings.

FORMAT: With 78 signups, we will have thirteen groups of six. The top two teams in each group will advance to the playoffs. Then, the next best six records will get six wild card spots.

Playoffs: All series will be best of five, with the exception of the final which will be best of seven.

About the Team
The Kalactanians are back again! This time they will be loooking to improve off the relatively unimpressive performance that they put up before. They are looking to return to the playoff glory that came with the Round of 16 and World Baseball Classic 42. Last time, in a group with Ko-oren, Xanneria, Equestria, Quebec and South Newlandia, they finished 3rd place and missed out on making the playoffs for the 5th classic in a row. What will come of the team this time? We will find out over the course of the next 2 months. The team has many new faces that will be important to this years team, including the standout Second Baseman Bobby Williams, who is 19 years old and one of the best players on the team already.

Introducing, the one and only...
Ranorian Krauts,

the international arm of the Federation of Ranorian Baseball.

And, in all reality, not the only Krauts. 'Krauts' has become the moniker for all professional Ranorian national teams at this point

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my run scorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: I’d prefer you follow mine, but I don’t mind if you want to change things up
Follow my pitching rotation: Do what you want with it! Have fun
Godmod scoring events: I'd rather not. Football is one thing, baseball...no
RP injuries to my players: Yep, nothing major though, and I'd prefer to be notified before hand
Godmod injuries to my players: Yep, nothing major though, and I'd prefer to be notified before hand
Eject my players: Shoot me a TG if you want to do this
Godmod other events: Ask first
Use DH at home: Ranoria=No DH. Up to you at yours, I suppose
Special Note: No Covid stuff. There is no COVID in Ranoria, just like there is no war in Ba Sing Se

Records:
WBC 44: 12-18; Team MVP: Leonardo Harrison
WBC 49: 15-15; Team MVP: Leonardo Harrison

Overall: 27-33

Home field: Cardinal Auditorium
Nashville, Tennessee, Ranoria

Background

The Ranorian Krauts are a privately funded team, supported by the joint funds of the Federation of Ranorian Baseball. In their first attempt, in the 44th edition, was a disaster. No talented players agreed to sign up with the exception of Leonardo Harrison. Predictably, the team finished a paltry 12-18 record, with Harrison being the only bright spot, 19 at the time. However, five years later, they fielded a stronger squad, with star players from home along with Ranorians playing abroad. As such, the team gave us a better showing with a somewhat successful 15-15 campaign in the World Baseball Classic 49, they were able to generate some level of intrigue from the nation as a whole.

The concept of starting a national team started when the Federation saw the massive dollars that Ranoria’s internationally competing Gridiron teams were raking in, and decided that, should they field such a team, they would be able to generate revenue in the country by piquing its interest. So far, they’re right, but a true run would be indicative of baseball emerging as a truly impactful sport in Ranorian culture.

Image
Cardinal Auditorium is the home of Leonardo Harrison's own Nashville Maestros, with a capacity of just under 18,000. This field, located just outside of Nashville, in the suburb of Lebanon, will certainly be a change of pace for many whom may be used to a more lively, crowd-filled venue.

With that being said however, with the support of the city of Nashville and the Federation of Ranorian Baseball as a whole, there are plans to construct a larger stadium in Nashville for this team.

1st Base 7 Abraham Leinhardt 6 205 28 Vricksinburg Blaze

Shortstop 2 Leonardo Harrison 6-2 215 25 Nashville Maestros

R. Field 22 Rubin Graves 6-2 205 26 Edmunton Rebels
DH 42 Wolfram von Kuhn 6-4 245 36 Raleigh Firstmates

Leonardo Harrison: A fluid athlete on pace to be one of the best players in Ranorian history...not that that's saying much. At shortstop, he's the centerpiece of the defense, and he's been playing professionally since he was just under 17 years old. Unfortunately, Ranorian baseball isn't a huge draw, but he's hoping to change that. He's on the right track, having earned the first deal over one million annually in the Federation's history, and rewarding it with an MVP season that saw him bat with an average over .400.

Tim von Kuhn: There's a reason he's hiding in left field. Von Kuhn is deceptively quick, but he's here because he can swing very, very hard. He and his brother, Wolfram, have won plenty of championships off of sheer batting prowess. It's made for some exciting championships to be sure, especially if both happen to be playing defense, as opponents will pick on their ineptitude for fielding while they hammer away homers. Tim von Kuhn has been playing for the QBO's Moncton Dinos for most of his professional career, while Wolfram was never quite good enough to get out of Ranoria.

Nicholas Lux: Essentially the consensus second best player in Ranoira. Expect a good hitting percentage (.371 hitting last season), and more than enough homers to keep you on your toes. Much faster than his frame would have you believe. Disclaimer: Ranoria’s pros are not up to the par of many other countries, so Lux isn’t gonna come in hitting a .371 in the Classic.

Jesse Griffith: Do you believe in taking chances? That's what the Krauts did with this signing. Griffith is the youngest man (er, boy?) to ever play professional Ranorian baseball, at just 15 years old. He was usually an average competitor in the domestic season, but showed some flashes of great potential...and had some lapses expected of someone his age. His signing, and starting, has been the cause of a bit of drama for this team.

Position Number Name Ht. Wt. Age Team
Catcher 77 Philbert Kelsin 6-2 210 25 Ranoria City Sluggers
Infield 19 Arthur Jackson 5-9 175 25 Vricksinburg Blaze
Infield 6 Maximus Tillman 5-11 190 32 Raleigh Firstmates
Outfield 55 Damian Horace 5-11 190 28 Edmunton Rebels
Outfield 51 Judas Acker 6 200 22 Cleveland Thunder
Outfield 59 Tristen Feng 6-1 205 27 Cincinnati Warbirds

Maximus Tillman: A starter on this team a year ago, Tillman's job was taken by a 15 year old. However, he is more than happy to continue to earn an extra paycheck on top of what he is paid by the Firstmates.

Judas Acker: Considered an up and comer for the Rebels, this youngster is looking to break into the starting lineup.

Tristen Feng: Veteran teammate of the talented but raw Jesse Griffith, Feng has taken the kid under his wing, as they are far and away the best athletes on their squad, at the very least.

Strength Number Name Ht. Wt. Age Team
Fastball 60 Tommy Verona 6-4 220 28 California City Dodgers (Quebec)
Fastball 55 Erik Schmidt 6-5 225 25 Banija
Fastball 71 Parker Majors 6-4 215 24 Banija
Fastball 86 John Stallone 6-1 215 27 Edmunton Rebels
Curveball 68 Sylvester Wayne 6-4 210 30 Vricksinburg Blaze
Fastball 70 Erin Phelps 6-2 215 26 Cleveland Rebels

Tommy Verona: The best pitcher on this roster, Verona can consistently hit 100 mp/h and is more than capable of playing with the world's best. He has spent most of his career in Quebec, playing for the California City Dodgers. brother of 4x All Star RFL Quarterback Paul Verona, uncle of Richardson QB commit Astrid Verona.

Erik Schmidt: Played most of his career in Banija in order to, well, make some friggin' money. Schmidt's bread and butter is a basic fastball, expect consistent 100 mp/h pitching, not quite as accurate as Verona, however.

Parker Majors: Played one year professionally in the Federation before immigrating to Banija. Similar to Schmidt in that he has a solid fastball, although he doesn't quite have the gas of the above two guys. Decent curveball for a change up.

John Stallone: Stallone has the fastest ball in the Federation of Ranorian baseball, hitting a personal best this season with a 97 mp/h throw, although usually he will top out around 94 mp/h. Poor ball control.

Sylvester Wayne: Throws a lot of sliders and curveballs, and has a knuckleball that approaches 65 mp/h. His tricky style often results in a good deal of walks, however.

Erin Phelps: Fastball pitcher, expect the 88 mp/h to 93 mp/h range consistently, with good accuracy. He can hit 95 mp/h but tends to throw a lot fewer strikes doing so.

Why are most of them so small, you might be asking? Well, Cransians aren't a rich people, and often live in severe poverty. The government struggles to provide food for the masses, and this can, tragically, lead to stunted growth.

M-299814: Might have been used as a science project. Don't expect him to talk, he doesn't, but he is a swing-for-the-fences kind of guy.

Honestly, don't expect great pitching. Baseball is one of the few legal sports in Cransia, and only adults who haven't played in awhile are participating, as the nation doesn't want its impressionable youth being corrupted by foreign blasphemy. Everyone on this team hasn't played formally in 5+ years outside of shoddily run government practices.

Cransia is a theocracy, through and through. Their head of state, prophet to Alhaymana, bears the title of Tusaytir. The Tusaytir retires, into solitude within the Temple on High, of course, and is replaced by her daughter every fifty years to give the appearance of Alhaymana's approval, and thus renewal. is immortal, and every fifty years undergoes a ritual of renewal, in order to both prove her worthiness to her people, and to insure that Alhaymana does still annoint her as his prophet.

The current Tusaytir, having seen Ranoria perform with some success in World Bowl 49, believes that Cransia enterring is a good way to spread their message and influence across the world. We'll see how that goes, given their malnourished populace. Of course, in all reality, this probably has something to do with Ranoria and its allies crippling Cransia being crushed by Cransia in a world-war esque conflict back in the nineteen hundreds, but we won't get into that.

If you didn't catch on, the striked stuff is more truthful, where the unstriked stuff is what the Cransian people are told and believe.
Puppet of Ran, unless you want to type out Ranoria, that's your decision. In that case, puppet of Ranoria

~~This nation in no way, shape, or form represents my political, theological, or other views. It's just a poorly run theocracy~~

Bullpen Coach: 36 Calen George

STARTING PLAYERS
C: 4 Matt Lopez (rocket-armed, great defensive catcher, not a great threat offensively)
1B: 10 Cody Frazier (Sarzonian gold Glover on defense, line drive hitter who hits well for average and can occasionally go yard)
2B: 11 Ian Danielson (speedster, led Sarzonia with 64 steals in 92 games. Hit a career-high .326 with 11 homers)
SS: 5 Christine Andersen (Only committed three errors with a fielding percentage of. 992)
3B: 32 Jose Garcia ( Hit a career low .240 with 15 dingers. Sat out the last month of the season with nagging injuries)
LF: 19 Jodie Schein (hit .298 with 12 Homer's. Good at sacrifice hits and bunts)
CF: 16 Ryan Brady (five-tool player who led the league with a. 348 average. Hit 26 homers)
RF: 24 Kenny Evans (here for his rocket arm in right. Only had four assists because baserunners don't challenge him. They know better. Hit 20 home runs in 99 games)
DH: (also a pinch hitter/backup first baseman) 44 Luke Brinkley (He's here for his bat, plain and simple. He hit 22 homers in 61 games after being traded to an Incorporated League team, which uses the designated hitter. Hit four in 24 games beforehand)

BENCH
C: 8 Pat Sakata
SS/3B: 13 Art Mannigan
UT: 6 Desmond St. John
OF: Matt Sain
OF: Frank Spencer

STARTING ROTATION:
34 Jeff Parrish (LHP; hard thrower with a plus fastball and a terrifying slider. His change up is too close in speed to his fastball to be effective)
41 Mark Conroy (RHP; hard throwing, nasty curveball, devastating change; slider is hittable)
29 Jamie Pearson (RHP; Primarily a sinker-slider pitcher who thrives on keeping the ball down. Tends to do worse when he strikes out a lot of hitters)
55 Brian Lynch (RHP; Throws a lot of offspeed and breaking balls, but can sometimes bring his fastball to the mid-90s in a tight situation)
53 Alton Long (LHP; Relies on keeping the ball down and having impeccable control. Like Greg Maddux in his prime, but as a lefty)

BULLPEN
30 Dima Ostrelov (LHP; can give three or four innings so he'll be the lefty long reliever. Mixes speeds and has a Andy Pettitte-quality pickoff move)
43 Alfred Wagner (RHP; he throws mid-to-upper 90s, but runs out of gas after about 50 pitches, so he typically pitches as the righty long reliever)
47 Carnie Weston (RHP; she relies on control and keeping the ball down. Typically pitches in a middle relief role)
50 Myron Daniels (LHP; Fastball/slider/curve, often used to get one lefty hitter out)
15 Scott Lassiter (LHP; fastball, curve, slider pitcher, often used as a setup pitcher. Can close if needed)
49 Tyrell Douglass (RHP; fastball typically in the high 90s to low 100s; also throws a change up. He typically closes)

Team Squidroidia - Squidroidian National Baseball Team

Baseball in Squidroidia/Inkhalla

The sport of baseball in Squidroidia's past incarnation of Inkhalla was the 2nd biggest sport in that country at the time of the Apocalypse. Although Inkhallans didn't have the chance to partake in the World Baseball Classic, the nation had produced a good baseball league with feeder leagues throughout the once sprawling country. All of this was destroyed in the blink of an eye.

Since then baseball has fallen out of the consciousness for all but the survivors of the Apocalypse who played on Inkhallan baseball teams, but with the 50th World Baseball Classic, the Squidroidian government, along with Team Squidroidia Baseball, who operate a 34 team league from professional teams to high school sides, hope to bring the sport to a wider audience in its home country.

Roster

All members of the team are human and are not Inklings. Baseball, along with gridiron and association football, is a human-focused sport as designated by the Squidroidian government.

Starters

Catcher - Yasunaga Hitoshi (Starter), Sakata Manzo
First Baseman - Sano Anzai (Starter), Kamata Fumihiro
Second Baseman - Kamoto Benkei (Starter), Azuma Miyoko
Shortstop - Zayasu Sotan (Starter), Noya Takechi
3rd Base - Iha Naomichi (Starter), Kuga Sotaro
Left Fielder - Kajiwara Kuniyuki (Starter), Izumo Chikao
Center Fielder - Soda Kaii (Starter), Motozawa Michinaga
Right Fielder - Himura Yuichi (Starter), Banno Yoritomo

Batting Lineup
1. Anzai
2. Sotan
3. Kaii
4. Hitoshi
5. Yuichi
6. Kuniyuki
7. Benkei
8. Pitcher
9. Naomichi

Pitchers

Pitchers to be used for each game will be disclosed in the RPs I write
Starting Pitcher - Hano Kosami, Yagami Keishi, Onaga Shuncho, Shoji Harumi, Kamata Toin
Mid-Rotation - Hata Eikichi, Seo Eien, Miya Taisho
Relief Pitcher - Yokoyama Makoto, Akazawa Kenji
Closer - Maki Bokkai

Stadium

Newton Baseball Field - 12,000 capacity
Leftfield - 367 Feet
Powerdrive Leftfield - 388 Feet
Centerfield - 409 Feet
Powerdrive Rightfield - 383 Feet
Rightfield - 360 Feet

Newton Baseball Field is a purposebuilt stadium for the Squidroidian national baseball team and the Newton Isotopes in the Major League of Team Squidroidia Baseball. It is a stadium meant to punish all but the biggest bombs and capitalizes on line drives that avoid anybody with a glove. In centerfield is a large model of an atom to symbolize the Newton Isotopes team; this will be replaced with a humanized Inkling in squid form for Squidroidia home games. The surface, like all others in all divisions of Team Squidroidia Baseball, is natural grass and is properly managed in between games. There are lights, but they will only be used for big games against higher ranked opposition.

SUPER-LLAMALAND TIGERS: WBC50 ROSTER

...okay, so WBC49 didn't exactly go according to plan. While the Tigers' late rally was enough to get them over the line (finishing with a 19-11 record and the twelfth seed), fellow ex-champions Banija proved too much to handle in the Round of 16. A perhaps overly-impatient LBA was quick to respond, firing Sofia Rasmussen and (after a lengthy search) opting for the "continuity option" in bench coach Winston Yi. Whether this was because they valued Yi's experience with the New Llama Cyclones, or because the likes of Buck Fuchs, Tanya Ericsson, and Michael Shelby all said no, we can only speculate.

As a result, Yi has largely followed Rasmussen in terms of team selection, bringing many of the 25 players who ushered in Super-Llamaland's return to the WBC. However, with significant prodding from the LBA, he has significantly radicalized his managerial approach (in terms of strategy). Aggressive shifts, early hooks, unorthodox baserunning strategies, and frequent trips to the bullpen will characterize Yi's strategy. The “Cubs”, as Llamanean media has taken to calling them, still take after the WBC42 championship team. They play with energy and heart, make spectacular plays on defense, play whatever position is asked of them, and emphasize contact-hitting and pitch command above pure power.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: Yes, within reason (justify any discrepancies from the below lineups if possible)
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes
Godmod scoring events: TG for approval
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but I determine the severity
Godmod injuries to my players: TG for approval
Eject my players: TG for approval (Llamaneans don’t get ejected often)
Godmod other events: TG for approval
Use DH at home: Yes

Get Ejected / Start a Fight: literally nobody

Derrick ARMSTRONG, #1, 27, C-1B, S/R - Apple Valley Vipers
Emery WU, #12, 23, SS-2B-CF, S/S - Apple Valley Vipers
Miranda GRAY, #33, 24, 3B-LF-RF, R/R - Rogers BC
Summer HUANG, #6, 26, SS-2B-CF, S/S - South Bryant Chariots
Gabriel ACOSTA, #10, 25, 1B-RF, L/L - Vargas City Lions

Noah SLATER, #16, 26, C-1B, S/L - City of Dinschria
Caitlin ROSARIO, #18, 25, SS-2B, R/R - East Llama Kings
Ian HART, #64, 27, UTIL, S/R - Nikcoro Suns

Starting catcher Derrick Armstrong takes after his ex-manager on defense, but unfortunately, nowhere else. He has a cannon for an arm, a natural instinct for framing pitches, and a .237 career batting average in the LBL. While his power makes him a threat at the bottom of the lineup, his free-swinging tendencies make him one that’s easily dealt with. Corner infielder (and occasionally outfielder) Gabriel Acosta, expected to start at first, is one of the few traditional sluggers on the team, hitting .285 with thirty-four home runs last season. And while he also struggles with plate discipline, he distinguished himself from other potential starters by his defensive prowess and versatility. Emery Wu is a patient, doubles-hitting middle infielder with a sweet stroke and good range, who's really found some pop over the past few years (30 home runs in his all-star campaign last year). Summer Huang covers an incredible amount of ground in the field, whether she’s at shortstop, second base, or center-field. With a bat in her hands, she’s an incredibly effective - if overly aggressive - contact-hitter with doubles power and strong baserunning instincts. Finally, Miranda Gray at third is one of the most disciplined hitters on the team, and an underrated defender at the hot corner - although her bland personality and small-market team make her less of a hot commodity than the other starters.

Off the bench, Noah Slater offers a stronger, more patient bat at the expense of lacking Armstrong’s finesse behind the plate. Caitlin Rosario is a slap-hitting middle infielder best known for her speed (and, to a lesser extent, defense), who should be able to competently spell Kastner or Huang up the middle. Finally, Ian Hart is a jack-of-all-trades utilityman who, while not the greatest hitter who could’ve filled up the bench, is definitely the most versatile and the best teammate.

Tyson LONG, #9, 23, LF/RF, S/R - Nandaozhou Sharks
Lily SCUTARO, #11, 26, CF, R/R - New Llama Wizards
Liam DESJARDINS, #28, 25, RF/CF, L/L - BC Nikcoro

Ivy WERNER, #25, 27, LF/CF/RF, S/R - New Llama Cyclones
Will RENTERÍA, #19, 24, LF/CF/RF, S/R - Los-Juantos Kingfishers

Tyson Long, a former first overall draft pick, could be the next great Llamanean slugging outfielder. His prodigious raw power hasn’t entirely converted into in-game power yet (although he still hit twenty-eight home runs last season), but his plate discipline, long at-bats, and ability to hit to the opposite field defy his young age. Lily Scutaro is, despite being three years older, a little less polished in the batters’ box. However, she makes up for it with supernatural instincts in center-field, where she’s won a Gold Glove in all three of her LBL seasons, and on the basepaths. Scutaro is also a surprisingly powerful hitter for her five-seven height. In right field, Liam Desjardins is a pure contact hitter with limited power but excellent on-base ability. Desjardins has average-at-best range despite his speed, possibly due to the fact that he was a catcher when drafted and is relatively new to the outfield. However, he differentiates himself with his cannon arm, and made many a highlight reel for gunning runners down at home plate.

Because “infielders” Hart, Gray, Huang, and even Acosta are all capable of spelling any of the starters in the outfield, the two reserve outfielders will get less playing time than one might expect. Ivy Werner is quick on the basepaths and solid defensively at all three positions, and could be used as a pinch-runner or defensive sub for the slower Long. With a bat in her hands, her biggest skill is her plate discipline, but she also has doubles power and a propensity to hit into the gaps, especially to the opposite field. Meanwhile, Will Rentería is more of a specialist. A slap-hitter by nature, Rentería's weak bat is compensated for by his blazing-fast speed and defensive prowess. He'll most commonly feature as a pinch-runner or defensive substitution, while Werner will be the first off the bench in the event of an injury to one of the starting outfielders.

Note: For the playoffs, Rasmussen will use a four-man rotation, with Wladecki available out of the bullpen.
Cedric WEI, #27, 27, L - Xingcheng Renaissance
Wei’s fastball tops out at ninety-two miles an hour and lacks movement, but “The Surgeon” has made three All-Star teams off of his incredible array of breaking pitches. An expert at getting hitters to chase, Wei offers a late-breaking slider, a splitter, a curveball, and a changeup that will leave even the most skilled hitters confused, and has an innate sense of what pitch to choose to throw off the hitters’ timing and line of sight the most. While he’s vulnerable to the home run - usually hit when he’s trying to sneak a fastball by somebody - Wei is one of the most underrated pitchers in the LBL.
April BENDTNER, #34, 27, L - South Bryant Chariots
April Bendtner has a fairly similar fastball-curveball repertoire to her retired older cousin. However, aside from the mid-90s cut fastball, electrifying curveball, and consistently solid changeup, Bendtner distinguishes herself with her excellent command of the strike zone. Bendtner hammers the strike zone relentlessly, relying on changing speeds and the movement of all of her pitches to induce weakly-hit ground balls for the Llamanean defense to handle.
Isaac COLÓN, #50, 25, R - Svenssonsford Dynamo
Isaac Colón is an electrifying talent, and it’s undeniable that he has national team ace potential. In fact, ever since Colón was fifteen, he was being hyped as a future number-one pick, and after two seasons of college baseball, he was drafted and immediately promoted to the LBL. The talent is clearly there - Colón lights up the radar gun with a triple-digit fastball, and his screwball and changeup both have incredible movement. However, injuries have limited Colón to just 295 innings in three LBL seasons, and a tendency to get upset with himself and lose control (which has, admittedly, improved since his rookie year) when things start to go sideways has held him back when he has been healthy. Is the solution to that “make him a starter on the national team?” Sofia Rasmussen evidently thought so.
Edward ZHUANG, #37, 22, R - Nikcoro Suns
Former college standout Zhuang is first and foremost a power pitcher, with a high-octane, mid-nineties fastball and a knockout slurve that he mixes in to great effect. He lacks an effective third pitch, and his control is a little shaky, making him prone to lots of mistake pitches, but at the college level it hasn’t seemed to hold him back at all. Ace potential.
Savanna WLADECKI, #54, 22, L - Derrierton Surge
Rookie of the Year three seasons ago, Wladecki originally wasn’t supposed to be in the majors at all after being taken in the fourth round. But injuries forced her into Derrierton’s rotation, and although her fastball never rose above ninety miles an hour, extremely high spin and pinpoint accuracy ensured that even a relatively pedestrian-seeming fastball-slider-changeup combination was able to stymie hitters for her first season. Is it sustainable at higher levels of opposition? There’s only one way to know for sure.

Note: these are their recommended roles, but most of these are elite Llamanean relievers and can fill other roles pretty well. In the Llamanean baseball leagues, roles tend to be flexible. The relief ace, not a closer, is usually the best reliever - not just limited to the ninth inning, but to the most high-leverage situations. These are all OOC role descriptions; ICly, there is no distinction between relievers. Specialty pitches are marked with one asterisk (or two asterisks for emphasis).

Much has been made of the World Baseball Classic Council's aggressive recruitment of traditionally non-baseball-playing or ex-baseball-playing nations to join the WBC's fiftieth edition, regardless of their recent history with a bat in their hands. This ended up in an offer being extended to former fourth-place finishers Hicaña. Of course, Hicaña has long since ceased to exist, due to the combined result of Gregoryisgodistani bombings, rocket launches gone horribly wrong, Patistani civil wars, and the endless march of climate change causing the islands that Hicaña formerly controlled to sink into the ocean. However, the Society of Hicañans Abroad, who are still fervently attempting to secure new territory for the Hicañan diaspora to settle, was happy to accept the invitation. Maybe if the ragtag team they've sent to this WBC plays well enough, it could generate enough good publicity for someone to take pity on the once-proud Hicañan people...

DRAWKLAND NATIONAL BASEBALL TEAM

Name: Base Corps
Demonym: Drawkian
Physiology: Special
16TH World Baseball Classic, Rank #13
Stadium: Hydrogen Cyanide Field, Drawk City
Capacity: 75,000
Image
Manager: Blanton Evergreen
Image

The Base Corps' home field has been designated as Hydrogen Cyanide Field, a ballpark housing a massive 75,000. It's nestled in the middle of Drawk City, near the Sports Quarter of the city around the Drawkland River. The field is regularly used by the Drawk City Scouts, but in the offseason it's used by the Base Corps and as a stage for events.
Drawk City being Drawkland's most massive, sprawling city of many millions, travel can get congested, but there are lots of options for travelers. For teams, buses can be used, and there are several charter/private bus companies who are welcoming visiting teams. Traveling by airship is the favorable option for those wanting to see a big slice of Drawkian culture, traveling in the city. The lower left corner of the photo seen above is actually a semi-large dock for boats, which teams can travel in if they feel like it.

Getting to the city also heralds several options. Drawk City has a space port for those from non-Sonnelian regions, and an airport for more "local" travels (say if a team went to a space port with cheaper rates and flew into Drawk City by plane). You can also travel sans-spaceflight by taking a normal airline flight through the portal in Stratosphere City, Isles of Avon (Rushmore) or the newer portal in Tundra Falls, Newmanistan (Esportiva).

Drawkland is quite a cultural and tourism-minded nation, so teams and fans will have much fun in the city before and after the games. A notable item is the very widespread usage of music. Not only can music be heard through the streets, but in all sports games, including baseball, pep bands are a common if not a necessary feature of every game. Playing during gameplay is accepted, so visiting teams may have to take this into account. When on the road, however, the Drawkian pep bands following the Base Corps is more polite and will only play between innings. Drum cadences are crowd favorites.

An Entity trying to find suitable land and budget to clean the mainland area of radiation

After the living supply at the underground ran out, almost all the people living underground were killed by the subsequent leak of radiation and the ensuing landslides there. Some people, including billionaire and owner of the rights of the names "Indios", "Agilang Dilaw", "Angas Sangti", "Globos Angas", and "Sangti", Mr. Marcos Romualdez, were aware of the large flaw and fled to the islands of Filindostan, which they kept on calling the Filindo Isles.

They struck a deal with current leader Dorigo Dutete to establish a base in San Rafael in Kabunuklan Island, where rebels who want to secede from the Filindo government are located in the remote areas of Sinukabang-Kambing, Tapia, and Birdinuguan. The entity plan to unite these rebels and get their sympathy, and convince Dutete to fund the cleansing of the mainland of radioactive residue, and sell the entire Filindostan to their entity and reestablish Sangti as a nation in Esportiva.

Notes on the team
The team uses a lot of pitchers per match. Using 4 pitchers is a decent minimum. The team is very aware of speedy players prone to steal bases. The Dragonflies lack fast players, and compensate for that by shifting the defence, and plenty of pickoff attempts. Players are selected for defensive prowess first and for batting second, so mistakes in tagging players are rare.

At the same time, offensively, the Dragonflies sometimes lack firepower. Sure, the batting is deep enough, with several fast players that can reach first base, then a few players that can clean up - but on the whole, for a team ranked this high, there's not a lot in threatening batters. The first 1-2 are OBP monsters, the next 2-3 are RBI monsters - on a good day. Bunting and sac flies are not too common, but players are generally left to their own decision-making whether they want to attempt them. In recent years, batting has gotten a lot better, to the point where the top 5-6 can reliably threaten the other team.

Culturally, there is a divide between the Western players (those with Hispanic-sounding names), from Finisterre, and the Eastern players (those with Japanese-like names), from Yoshima. The former are often from a working class background, the latter are extremely proud of their home prefecture, and can be a little arrogant. Other names (French, Dutch, Gehrennan, English) are from other regions of Ko-oren, and typically don't occur in baseball very often. They are mostly just happy to be there, often as peacekeepers on the team. Both Finisterrans and Yoshimans look down on them, however.

As with most of this sport, there is some competition between Finisterre and Yoshima. This extends to the home venues as well. Series of three matches are usually scheduled per region (ranked by how often they're used):
1) Katashi: the city of Katashi has several ready venues, including the Katashi Dome (the largest venue of the nation) and Maesaki Park (smaller, but more frequently used by domestic teams). Sometimes even the Heisaka Grounds are used (one third the size of Katashi Dome, to give you an idea).
2) Finisterre: the entire region has several big stadiums and they're almost always sold out if the Dragonflies come to visit. The Citadel (Santa Teresa), Ventovente (Ferrovente).
3) Rest of Leleia: the regions west and east of Katashi don't have the same population as city of Katashi itself, but has a lot of scattered towns with a proud baseball tradition. Twin Field (Nitoya), Obsidian Park (Suvira)
4) Rest of Ko-oren: not everyone plays baseball all the time, yet there are a few diamonds here and there. Le Losange (Aminey), Honrothru-din (Senoren), Vamada Océanique (Étouille), Naminaka Park (Schemerdrecht).
5) Alara and Etena islands: the northernmost islands of Yoshima are baseball-crazy as well, fans come from all over the island just to see a match. Uvesaki Field (Echizen), Vidari Stadium (Teragaseki), Vusodalo Stadium (Teraoka).
6) Selesi island: the second-largest island of Yoshima has only a few venues, being the least densely populated part of Yoshima, but the few places they do have are popular. Ginofruit Field (Arakura).

Silvedania, the majestic nation.
NS Stats are mostly accurate except for a few things, like this nation is capitalist and the death penalty isn't in effect

News:All trade with Crabaiaia and Pikala has stopped as diplomats meet in Trenaka. Silvedanians are confused by Quentin Tarantulatino's new film, Seasonal Snackbox(This is a Bojack Horseman reference.) Weird song goes viral for making no sense.

THE HAPILOPPER NATIONAL BASEBALL TEAM

Full Nation Name: The Dominion of Hapilopper
Short Nation Name: Hapilopper
Trigramme: HAP
Demonym: Hapiloppian
Team Nickname: The Hap Thrashers
Manager: Dale Moss

Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: Use my lineup as a guide, but I've included a depth chart for each position for if you want to swap players out.
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes. I will indicate if the emergency starter is needed.
Godmod scoring events: Yes, but my rule concerning godmodding is if it happened in real life, I don't consider it godmodding. For example, my OOC favorite team had two pitchers hit grand slams in a one-week span two years ago IRL, and thus the concept of pitchers hitting grand slams is not godmodding in my book.
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but please don't kill my players. I'll do that if necessary
Godmod injuries to my players: TG me beforehand or talk to me on the NS Sports Discord.
Eject my players: TG me beforehand or talk to me on the NS Sports Discord. Let's have fun with it.
Godmod other events: TG me beforehand or talk to me on the NS Sports Discord.
RP coronavirus-related events: Hell no. Do what you like but don't involve me. The pandemic does not exist in Hapilopper.
Style Mod: 2.75
Use DH at home: No. We play real baseball in Hapilopper.

Introduction:
Welcome back to the wonderful world of Hapiloppian baseball. In the Dominion of Hapilopper, baseball is a fast-paced game featuring wild baserunning, athletic fielders and moody pitchers who will just as soon throw at your head as they will strike you out. Hapiloppian baseball features their fair share of power hitters who will send the ball into the second deck of their local stadium and through the windshields of cars in the parking lot, but also feature hitters who will present their own creative interpretations of what is a base hit. More than a few players will bunt for a base hit and run like hell for first base. In fact, several years ago, the National League of Hapilopper's championship was decided by a walk-off suicide squeeze, one of the most exciting plays in the history of Hapiloppian sport. Players will try to exploit a hole in the other team's strategy. Fielders shifted towards right field? Expect a bunt to third base. Infielders are out? Look for a light chop over the pitcher's head. Hapiloppian baseball is a multi-layered game that is, to say the least, fun to watch.

The Hapilopper National Baseball Team, now in its fifth World Baseball Classic, has the highest expectations possible. They made it to the finals last WBC, getting knocked off by the mighty team from the Sherpa Empire. They have one goal - improve one place and win the whole damn thing. With much of the same talent from the last WBC coming back for WBC 50, many think this is the time for the Haps to pick up baseball gold.

TEAM FULL ROSTER:
STARTING POSITION PLAYERS:
Image
#1 | LEVI BERRY | First Baseman | Age: 28 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @levib12
Levi Berry has been the staple at first base for the Hapilopper National Baseball Team since the very begininning. He's known for being one of the most patient players at the plate, drawing all kinds of walks as he waits for the pitch that's right for him. Hit .306 last year with 34 home runs, but questions continue to linger about a left foot injury he sustained over a year ago in an NLH match against Emporia, an injury he aggravated late last season running to first base on a hit. Rumored to be becoming something of a liability following some recent comments made about the Hapiloppian government over twii.tur. While Levi is still one of the best first basemen in Hapiloppian baseball, some wonder how much longer the Hap Thrashers will be able to put up with his behavior. Watch this space.

Image
#2 | GRANT BONNEY | Second Baseman | Age: 20 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @blue_bonney
He did it! Grant Bonney, the hardest-working second baseman in Hapiloppian baseball, has received the starting role, and will hold that spot by himself for WBC 50. Last season, he hit .322 and won the Best Glove award for second basemen, registering just two errors all last season. His appearance on the HNBT last season was something of a surprise, having taken the spot from Ernest Brand, and some question his replacement of Campbell Braxton for this spot, but many experts say he's earned it. Away from the field, Bonney has reportedly angerered hotel operators all around Hapilopper for his tendency to practice the double play pivot in his hotel room, at times throwing a baseball at hotel room walls and annoying the people in the next room over. Either way, Bonney has come from one of the poor parts of Emporia and scrapped all the way up to his spot on the Reds team, and to this spot as the starting second basemen.

Image
#3 | LEROY HUNNISETT | Third Baseman | Age: 30 | Throws: Left | Bats: Switch | twii.tur: @hotcornerhunni
Leroy Hunnisett, who now plays in Banija, is one of the most prolific Hapiloppian third basemen. A former centerpiece of the Hapilopper City Nationals team, Hunnisett left the team in anger following an incident involving his brother Murray, who also plays his sport - football - in Banija. Leroy is expected to be one of the HNBT's most prolific hitters for the World Baseball Classic, and is a career .300 hitter. Last WBC, Hunnisett had a great run, but it seemed he was being overshadowed by some other hitters on the team, such as Jerome Hayden and Dayton Rowe, both of whom hit like thunder gods during the last WBC. And you know something? That's just fine with Leroy. He's happy when the team's happy, and when the rest of the team's playing well, the Hot Corner Hunni is just fine with being overshadowed.

Image
#4 | JEROME BY-GOD HAYDEN | Shortstop | Age: 25 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @hayden24
If you watched the last World Baseball Classic, you became very familiar with the work of Jerome By-God Hayden. His work during the 49th WBC was just like the work that Hapiloppian fans were more than used to. Long balls. Excessive celebrations. Flipped bats. Slow prances around the bases. Pissed off pitchers. Bench clearing brawls. All of those things and more happened during the 49th World Baseball Classic, most notably in the final when Hayden blasted one against the Sherpa Empire, royally pissing off pitcher Wangdi Ai, who threw a fastball at his head, setting off that now-infamous bench-clearing brawl in game two of the WBC 49 finals. Some have asked Jerome to calm down with the showboating. But Jerome has told those some to put a sock in it. Jerome By-God Hayden does what Jerome By-God Hayden wants.

Image
#5 | DAYTON ROWE | Left Field | Age: 23 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @roweman99
Nathan Ellis's favorite baseball player (yeah right), Dayton Rowe is known for his tendency to produce a higher-than-normal amount of extra base hits, including a league-leading 17 triples last year. Dayton has a pair of legs on him and can run out a base hit for more bases than anyone expect. Away from the field, Dayton is known for his very popular "Let's Play" series on Veedeo, Hapilopper's most popular video sharing site. Right now, Rowe, now a top sim racer on eRacing, apparently has quite the high-profile rivalry with Nathan Ellis, another top celebrity sim racer. The two, both members of a league that runs on Monday nights with members of the Hapiloppian motorsport media, were asked to quit wrecking each other and cussing the other out. A video of the two exchanging profane insults with the other for fifteen straight minutes is one of Veedeo's most popular videos.

Image
#6 | MELVIN PEMBERTON | Outfield | Age: 23 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @super_melvin
Oh boy. One of the three eccentric Pemberton brothers, Mel Pemberton, now has a starting spot on the Hapilopper National Baseball Team. Pemberton is unfortunately known for an incident during a game with the Washington Metropolitans where Melvin, chasing after a high fly ball, ran face-first into the wall at the park in Washington as the ball nailed him on the top of the head. The ball bounced off his head, went over the right-field wall and was counted as a home run. Pemberton took a lot of laughs from that, but has recovered to be a dynamic outfielder for the Metropolitans. Like his two brothers, who also troll the outfield for the Metropolitans, Mel Pemberton is known for his athletic patrolling of the outfield, robbing opposing hitters of certain base hits.

Image
#7 | MARION POUND | Right Field | Age: 24 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @pounder80
The son of the legendary knuckleballer Richard Pound, outfielder Marion Pound is in his second year as a starter for the Hapilopper National Baseball Team. Pound was a pitcher at the start of his career, but infamously blew out his arm in a game against the HC Nationals in his second career start at 18 years old. Since then, Pound has reinvented himself as one of the most acrobatic outfielders in the game, and Garvinson fans are consistently in awe of his diving, leaping and high-climbing catches, including three years ago in Capital Stadium where it seemed Pound climbed a 15-foot wall to rob Levi Berry of a home run. Even the notoriously-rowdy Hapilopper City fans had to applaud that feat of athleticism.

Image
#8 | MO BEVERLY | Catcher | Age: 27 | Throws: Right | Bats: Switch | twii.tur: @morris_beverly
The spiritual leader of the Hapilopper National Baseball Team, Mo Beverly shows maturity far beyond his 27 years, being called on more than one occasion to settle down some bad feelings between players. Unfortunately, it's likely Mo will have to either change positions soon or face an early retirement. He's been playing for eight years now and has felt the strain on his knees more and more as the days progress. Last year, Mo faced the reality of what the position of catcher will do to one's knees, and his knees almost gave out following a 17-inning marathon against Nova Anglicana during WBC 49. Beverly is apparently looking at changing to first base in an effort to keep playing.

STARTING PITCHERS:
Image
#30 | MILFORD "HOT SAUCE" GIBBS | Starting Pitcher | Age: 30 | Throws: Right | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @HapHotSauce
First off, don't call him "Milford." Secondly, with the retirements of Charlton Forest due to injury and Curtis Skinner due to old age, Hot Sauce Gibbs is now the ace of the Hapiloppian pitching staff. His pitches include a 99 mph fastball, a cutter, a straight changeup and a slurve. His endurance has apparently improved, and manager Dale Moss apparently has no qualms keeping him in past 95 pitches. Gibbs earned his nickname following a legendary incident involving a bottle of hot sauce in a Garvinson team shower. The specifics of the incident has never been revealed, but those that were there have said it was the funniest thing they had ever seen. He's taken advantage of that name, too - Gibbs has started marketing some rather extreme hot sauces under the name "The Hot Sauce's Hot Sauce." When they were first put on sale at Tongue Torch Market, a specialty store in the Garvinson Central Mall, they sold out within minutes.

Image
#31 | VICTOR FOSTER | Starting Pitcher | Age: 32 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @victor_onthe_hill
Perhaps the greatest beneficiary of the NLH's controversial rule change effectively allowing spitballers, Victor Foster openly, freely and proudly uses a variety of foreign substances to alter the trajectory of his pitches, and as a result, Victor had his best season last year, registering a 2.42 ERA and a 27-4 record. His open use of spitballs has been the source of some controversy, with some wondering if his pitches were that of magic, or if the WBC should take a look at outlawing these spitballs. Either way, Victor has said he'll continue to use these spitballs as long as he's allowed to. And if he's not? Well, that's when he's going to go underground, he said. "It's my pitch," Victor growled. "Ain't nothing wrong with it."

Image
#32 | COLE WINTHROP | Starting Pitcher | Age: 25 | Throws: Right | Bats: Badly | twii.tur: @c-winthrop
Last year, Cole Winthrop was the go-to-guy for those game five situations. And he delivered. In game five situation after game five situation, Cole produced some gems, allowing the Hapilopper National Baseball Team to advance all the way to the finals. Seen as one of the rising stars of Hapiloppian baseball, Cole threw the first perfect game in Hapilopper in sixteen years a couple of years back, and has produced some fantastic performances in both the National League of Hapilopper and in the World Baseball Classic. But that's on the mound. His hitting prowess is the kind that have led to some people (we call them idiots) pressing for the Designated Hitter in the NLH. In one infamous incident, he swung too hard and landed hard on his ass, sending pitcher Lucky Spalding into a laughing fit, a fit that led to him being unable to find the strike zone for a few pitches. In another incident, he accidentally lost his grip on the bat during one at-bat. The bat went sailing into the crowd and beaned a high school music teacher looking at her phone. She would have been alright had her boyfriend not ducked and, I don't know, tried to protect her? Needless to say, those two aren't together anymore.

Image
#33 | NOLAN JEFFERSON | Starting Pitcher | Age: 27 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @100start
One of several new players to make their debut on the national team staff, Nolan Jefferson has become a standout on the Surrey Wolves team, going 21-8 last year with a 3.02 ERA, with an arsenal that includes a 100 mph fastball, a slider that goes from left to right and a changeup that looks like it's going to start off as a fastball, but drops in both altitude and speed quickly, fooling batters pretty easily. Away from the field, Nolan is known for his tendency to drive like a moron - most notably on the Surrey Perimeter, where he apparently nearly caused a multi-car accident changing lanes at almost 120 miles per hour driving his Primetime Quest X. Wolves teammates have made it clear they will not ride with him. In addition, Nolan also parks like an idiot, having been rumored to take up four spots in his car.

Image
#34 | LUCKY SPALDING | Starting Pitcher | Age: 29 | Throws: Right | Bats: Left | twii.tur: (none)
One of the viral sensations of last season, Lucky Spalding is one of the most interesting - and most eccentric - of all pitchers in Hapiloppian baseball. That's really saying something considering all the eccentrics that pitch in Hapilopper - beanballers, spitballers, junkballers, lowballers and highballers. Part of Lucky's pregame routine involves firing a ball across the field, jumping up and down and then ordering two chili dogs from the nearest concession stand in full uniform. We don't know why he does that last bit, but apparently it relaxes him. It angers his managers though, especially when some of that chili spills onto his uniform. Supposedly, Lucky is a huge fan of Hapilopper City-style chili, which involves pouring a meat sauce on spaghetti noodles, then adding cheese and either onions or beans.

RELIEF PITCHERS:
Image
#35 | JORDAN MEADOWS | Relief Pitcher | Age: 28 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @jordan10meadows (and @rodneyderude)
Jordan Meadows, the popular relief pitcher, has been used as the Hapilopper team's resident LOOGY (left-handed one out guy) for a number of years, but is more known for his alter-ego Rodney DeRude, a mulleted redneck-looking throwback to the 90s that has made fans of the Garvinson Trojans double over with laughter, most notably one incident before a game against the Buckridge Blues where Jordan, in full Rodney DeRude getup, sauntered over in the pre-game meeting to give the lineup card to the umpire. Unfortunately, he said something to Buckridge manager Todd Hickman that enraged him, something that reportedly had something to do with Hickman's daughter Laura. Ever hear of a bench-clearing brawl during a pre-game meeting? Well, now you have.

Image
#36 | MARTIN MEADOWS | Relief Pitcher | Age: 28 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @martinmeadowspitcher
Martin Meadows, Jordan Meadows' twin brother, is a fireballer known for his 103 mph fastball which, unfortunately, lacks control at times. On more than one occasion, his fastball has wound up anywhere but over the plate. These locations include "through the net behind the backstop," "the H-Sports/Garvinson announce booth," "a concession stand" and, unfortunately, at one point last year, "the box where the Garvinson wives and girlfriends were sitting," beaning one of his teammate's girlfriends in a pitch that could definitely charitably be called "wild as hell." When his control is on, though, hitters can hardly stand to face him. They could send one out of the ballpark - or they could just as easily look like an idiot as they swing at something too late.

Image
#37 | TREVOR ASHLEY | Relief Pitcher | Age: 33 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: (None)
As unfortunate proof that Hapiloppian baseball teams don't mind the occasional reprobate from time to time, Trevor Ashley has made the Hapilopper National Baseball Team. His attitude and behavior has led some to wonder if he'll just as soon knock someone over with a pitch as he'll throw it over the plate. Last season, Ashley made his debut on the team, serving as a servicable relief pitcher, who had some good moments, bad moments, but for the most part, he stayed under the radar. Thank God, too, becuase many had pointed to him as "the guy that's going to start the biggest shitstorm in the World Baseball Classic." I mean, this is the kind of guy that would bean his own grandmother just for the hell of it!

Image
#38 | AARON ARMSTRONG | Relief Pitcher/Designated Hitter | Age: 24 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @aarmstrong21
Welcome to the gun show. Aaron Armstrong, one of the most intriguing players in Hapiloppian baseball, is known for his 101-mph fastball, his 22-inch biceps and his ability to hit monstrous home runs. Five years ago in a game against the HC Nationals, Armstrong blasted a tape measure home run that both exited BankTrust Park in Surrey AND ended up smashing a windshield of a car behind the stadium. Armstrong has received permission from the Hapilopper National Team and from the Surrey Wolves to cut the sleeves off of his jersey, allowing players and fans alike to marvel at his 22-inch guns. The Hapilopper National Baseball Team has also named Armstrong the starting designated hitter when applicable, which means that, regardless of the DH situation, a pitcher will hit at all times. The way it should be.

Image
#39 | TRAVIS REID | Relief Pitcher | Age: 29 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @treeman59
Want some ice cream? Travis Reid is your man. Want a heart-pounding roller coaster ride on the mound? Travis Reid is your guy, too. Travis has worked with Dominion Dairy Farmers for a very tasty cookie-dough flavor ice cream, "Cookie Closer," laced with bits of chocolate chunk and caramel, and has received rave reviews from Hapiloppian fans. He's got a 98 mph fastball and a sinking slider that resembles one of Vic Foster's bullshit pitches. But on the mound, the twii.tur hashtag #TreemanExperience trended during WBC 49, when Travis would give up runs to hitters one game, while shutting things down the next.

Image
#40 | DWAYNE POCOCK | Closer | Age: 27 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @dwaynepocock
Dwayne Pocock is the closer for the Hapilopper team and has more than earned that position, registering several key saves in clutch situations in games during the last World Baseball Classic, even if he seemingly was overshadowed by other, more (honestly speaking) interesting players on the team. Pocock, who had an era of 1.76 last year, registered 48 saves, leading the National League of Hapilopper. His repertoire includes a knuckle-curve and a fastball at 100. Away from the field, Pocock is an excellent poker player, and won around $15,000 in last year's Hapiloppian Poker Championship. His poker face can be seen pretty well on the mound, and Pocock is widely considered one of the calmest players in Hapiloppian baseball.

BENCH POSITION PLAYERS:
Image
#11 | BEN HAMMOND | First Baseman | Age: 29 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @ben_hammond16
For the first time in some time, Ben Hammond broke the .300 barrier, and some have wondered if maybe he should be the starting first baseman and not Levi Berry. Hammond's hitting has improved substantially over the last few years, and in fact, the NLH named him "Most improved player" last season. It's possible that losing the spot two years ago was a moment that clicked in his head to improve. Hammond is still known for his pranks, including one two years ago that saw the toilets explode in the Garvinson Trojans clubhouse in the middle of batting practice. When the Trojans came back, the clubhouse was flooded, but at least none of their stuff got damaged. When they found that Peoria's Hammond was involved, they retaliated, with the assistance of Hammond's family, by putting some rather embarassing photos of Hammond at the park in Peoria. As to the content of these photos? Well, it's the reason H-Sports/Garvinson had to cut away from that game very early.

#12 | CAMPBELL BRAXTON | Second Baseman | Age: 32 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @campbell_braxton
In one of the biggest upsets among Hapiloppian roster-watchers, Campbell Braxton has been relegated to a bench role, and won't even be platooning with Grant Bonney at second base. There are a handful of reasons behind this - such as the fact that Braxton's production declined somewhat last season, and that Bonney has started to break out as one of the top second basemen in Hapiloppian baseball. Regardless, Campbell has vowed to press on regardless, and in case Bonney becomes incapacitated for whatever reason, Braxton will be back in that second base role. Perhaps it was the fact that Campbell is not the best hitter - batting only .224 last season, while Bonney hit .322 last season. Typically bunts most of the time.

Image
#13 | TYSON CRUMPLER | Third Baseman/Designated Runner | Age: 33 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @crumpler
Tyson Crumpler is one of the quickest men in baseball, if not the single fastest, if he could just get on base. Last year, he stole 53 bases, but experts believe that number would have been higher if his average - an unfortunate .225 - was a little bit higher. According to reports from the HNBT, Crumpler has been brought on mostly to serve as a designated runner for the team in the event he is needed. Reportedly ran a 4.53-second 40-yard dash during spring training for the Buckridge Blues. Away from the field, Crumpler owns three dogs - Alge, Warrick and Brooking, who strangely look like they could raise hell on a gridiron football field.

Image
#14 | ALVIN BANNERMAN | Shortstop | Age: 28 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right | twii.tur: @bannershort25
This should be interesting. Alvin Bannerman, shortstop for the Kingsland Braves and not someone high on Dale Moss's list of favorite players, has replaced Dalton Sadler as his case of "The Yips" got worse last season, which manifested itself in the worst way during a game last season where a routine throw to first base found its way into the second deck behind the first base stands. Sadler has taken a year off to recover, and Bannerman, who got chewed out on a couple of occasions by manager Dale Moss for his lack of hustle, has returned to the spot. On the field, Alvin is actually a pretty good hitter, hitting .305 and hitting 28 home runs, but some wonder if his lack of hustle has negatively impacted his playing. Bannerman is still the president of the Kingsland chapter of the Team Blue fan club, and has reportedly made at least one advance towards Taylor Henderson, the attractive and somewhat nerdy NSSCRA driver.

Image
#15 | RANDALL PEMBERTON | Outfield | Age: 27 | Throws: Right | Bats: Left | twii.tur: (none, for legal reasons)
One of the three Pemberton brothers, Randall Pemberton is one of the most interesting members of the Hapilopper National Baseball Team. Off the field, he reads comic books, drinks frozen sodas and prank calls local bars. On the field, he's one of the most dynamic outfielders in baseball, making leaping catches, robbing players of certain base hits and home runs. At the plate, he's no slouch batting, hitting .345 and 38 home runs. But there remains some question about his maturity level, and one clubhouse took issue with him watching Saturday morning cartoons before gametime. Pemberton is not on any social media - due to a court order - after several incredibly vulgar incidents involving him and a handful of Conservative Party politicians. We'll not go into details (due to NationStates' PG-13 rule and I don't want Hapilopper to be DEAT'ed - Hap)

Image
#16 | TERRY BLANCHARD | Center Field | Age: 27 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left | twii.tur: (None)
Now here's a scrapper. Terry Blanchard, center-fielder for the HC Nationals, is known for being one of the hardest workers, if not the single hardest worker, in all of Hapiloppian baseball. Terry is known for his tendency to do anything, and we do mean ANYTHING, to get the job done on the field. Through grit and hard work, Blanchard has developed into one of the best players in Hapiloppian baseball, with one hell of an arm. One of the most popular web gems from four years ago involved Blanchard throwing out Ethan Abbey at home from deep center field at Capital Stadium without the help of a relay man. That means Blanchard fired the ball from over 400 feet away to home plate, robbing Abbey of a run scored.

Image
#17 | SCOTTY PEMBERTON | Outfield | Age: 25 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @spemberton
Scott Pemberton, the third of the three Pemberton brothers, is perhaps the most normal of the three Pemberton brothers, but his long shoulder-length hair and thick wayfarer glasses is among the most recognizable look in all of Hapiloppian baseball. Last year, he hit .294 with 11 home runs, stole 43 bases and broke five pairs of glasses along the way. Multiple eyeglass manufacturers in Hapilopper are trying to sign Pemberton to a contract involving their athletic lens goggles, very similar to Spuds Thomas, that famous player for the Hapilopper City Nationals from the early 1990s, who famously bellowed "WE GOT THE RINGS, WE GOT THE MONEY, WE GOT EVERYTHING!" after the HC Nationals won the NLH Championship in a four-game sweep in 1990. Pemberton has yet to sign a deal, but one is expected by the time the WBC gets started.

Image
#18 | GRADY ELLIOTT | Catcher | Age: 23 | Throws: Right | Bats: Left | twii.tur: @grady_elliott
22-year old Grady Elliott is a Washington lifer, and last year, he hit .295 with five home runs. Grady is not expected to see much playing time, unless Mo Beverly gets hurt. Elliott is a good player for the Washington Metropolitans, but not a great one, and not much is known about him. It is said he blends in with the crowd, does his job and goes home. During the last World Baseball Classic, Elliott saw some playing time after Mo Beverly's knees started to give out following some very lengthy marathon games against Nova Anglicana.

Capital Stadium, the home of the HC Nationals, is Hapilopper's largest baseball stadium, seating over 63,000 for baseball and 66,000 for gridiron football. The stadium, the last of Hapilopper's classic cookie-cutter venues, is located just off the West River and right in the heart of towntown Hapilopper City. As is custom with cookie-cutter stadiums, the park is completely symmetrical and is surrounded by multiple decks of stands, typically filled with screaming fans when the HC Nationals are doing well. Back in the 1970s, the HC Nationals, and their vaunted "National Machine" dominated Hapiloppian baseball, and brought over four million fans through the turnstiles on six occasions. Hapiloppian fans have vowed to come to Capital Stadium in force for HNBT games.

Capital Stadium is considered a "neutral" park and does not favor hitters or pitchers per se, but the artificial turf, known as "HCNTurf", is seen as the HC Nationals' secret weapon. Balls bounce and fly like crazy off the turf, and the HC Nationals have commonly selected players that have been able to use that turf - and its unusual properties - to good use.

Acronym: NOV

Stadium: Archbishop Stadium
Stadium Location: Londinium (capital), Newfoundland and Labrador
Stadium Capacity: 35,000
Distance to Walls: 315 to right with a high wall, 421 to right-center, 408 to straightaway center, 385 to left-center, 336 to left
Stadium Surface: Natural grass
Park Factor: 82, Archbishop Stadium is quite the pitcher's park

Archbishop Stadium is the home stadium of the Londinium Capitols as well as the Nova Anglican national team. It is big and it plays big, with a serious nighttime marine layer, an enormous right-center gap known as "Triples Alley" and an imposing right field wall. It's not as hard on right-handed hitters, but is a fly ball pitcher's paradise. Many people are seen in the bay outside of the stadium attempting to catch home runs hit into the water or simply cruising the bay while enjoying the sound of the game on the radio.

Starting Rotation (order as given)
RHP #36 Cory Sharpe, 31 - Sharpe leaned on his 90 MPH slider and 97 MPH fastball to get here, the consummate power/strikeout pitcher, steady diet of high fastballs and just-out-of-reach sliders on 2-strike counts, uses a cutter or change against tough lefties, will flash a curve
LHP #19 Dan Cunningham, 31 - knee-buckling curve is his best pitch, and he uses it often, cutter bores in on righties' hands at about 92, throws a slider and change to keep people off balance, impeccable control,
LHP #20 Erik Russell, 30 - big high leg kick messes with hitters, 90 MPH fastball is underwhelming, but he can cut, sink, and run it, along with a circle and a Vulcan change, knuckle curve and passable slider, you just never know what's coming
RHP #56 Hank Jackson, 29 - sits 93-95 with the fastball, but can amp it up to 97, sharp 12-6 curveball, mixes in the changeup and slider occasionally, hates walks, can swing the bat a little too
RHP #44 Rex Boyd, 29 - sits 95, but can ramp up to 97-98 if needed, throws a slider and a changeup as well

Bullpen
LHP #57 Aaron Spencer, 31 - long guy out of the bullpen, stands 6'4, so his pedestrian 91 MPH fastball looks faster, sweeping slider, decent curve, will mix in a change every now and then as well
LHP #48 Dallas Hawkins, 27 - lefty has developed into a strong closer, features a 96 MPH fastball with a biting slider and tricky curve
LHP #46 Grant Graham, 26 - former starter now a lefty specialist, throws his dangerous curve close to 50% of the time, most of the rest is a fairly hard fastball with a change and slider just to give hitters an occasional change of pace
RHP #38 Cody Brock, 28 - sits 100, throws a changeup at 87 that is tough to handle, and his slider is 91 as well, not much control right now
RHP #16 Rocky Gantt, 24 - Gantt slots into the multi-inning "fireman" role, pops the glove at 96-97, devastating slurve, decent changeup and developing a cutter
RHP #11 Vic Fleming, 31 - forkball is his main pitch, does a lot of changing the batters eye level with 93 up top and then the forkball down low, has a curve if need be
RHP #43 Eric Norton, 26 - the kind of guy that rears back and lets loose, 4-seam at 98-99, 2-seam at 94-95 that dives back over the outside corner to righties and dives just out of the zone low and away to lefties, hard slider at 90, decent change, also good control
RHP #30 Jon Klein, 30 - bowling ball of a fastball at 94, but throws a good curve and change as well, reliable strike-thrower
RHP #23 Zach Kelley, 32 - low 3/4 arm slot, lots of hard two-seamers and sliders, really a two-pitch guy, but very effective

C #60 Trevor Goodwin, 32, (L/R) - strong arm and mobile behind the plate, moderate power and good batting average is positive for a catcher
C #18 Curtis Hughes, 27, (R/R) - still needs to work on the catching side of things, but he has power for days and his club thinks he could be a future MVP
C #51 Derek Ross, 31, (R/R) - defense-first guy who is recognized as the premier pitch-framer in the NABL, won't see many starts, but could be a solid defensive replacement

1B #21 Erik Austin, 27, (S/R) - bat speed is incredible and he has .300/.400 potential, power is growing, an above-average defender at first, and can play third if needed
3B #26 Marc Dufors, 32, (L/R) - can really pick it at the hot corner with a strong arm, streaky hitter whose in-game power has grown
SS #11 Luke Mills, 29, (S/R) - former #1 overall pick out of high school, outstanding fielder, but his hit tool has really taken off, good power for a SS, a national team fixture for years to come, coaches hope
2B #6 Kelvin Hill, 30, (R/R) - Hill moves from utility player to starter, decent defensively all around the infield, but he's mostly on the team for his hit tool, he's .280-290 hitter with 20 HR power
CI #50 Pierre Duchesne, 25, (R/R) - a bit of a lumberer, so more suited to first, but can play a decent third, thick body with a lot of swing and miss, but generates a lot of power with the lower body, strong arm
IF #27 Nolan Dunning, 23, (L/R) - slick fielder can man short or second, though better at second, quick bat who hits for a high average, though not much power, decent patience, still growing, very fast

OF #25 Joey Keller, 26, (R/R) - features a solid arm and good range in left, athletic power bat who still needs to work on taking walks, potential 30/15 guy
OF #35 Matthew Gilbert, 31, (S/L) - combines blazing speed with good range, a power bat, and a strong arm, still needs to boost his average and take a few more walks
OF #29 Jerome Duplantier, 30, (L/R) - strong right arm in right means runners don't challenge him, a launch angle revolutionized swing means he has 30 HR power, not super mobile and won't hit for much average
OF #24 Cliff Garner, 30, (L/L) - Garner is all about the three true outcomes (homers, walks, and strikeouts), poor range but good arm, not an awful LF, but he's here for his hit tool, mostly
UTIL #40 Dusty Davidson, 29, (S/R) - Davidson is a super-utility guy, tall enough to play corner infield, quick enough to play middle infield, and fast w/a good enough arm to play any outfield position, will steal bases, draw walks, and play good defense, not much power, middling average

Mark Singleton #55 (Manager)

Nick Berry #47 (Pitching Coach)

Dale Garner #9 (1st Base Coach)

Eli Nelson #8 (3rd Base Coach)

Coaching Staff
The current manager, Ousman Kakay, is in his 5th tournament as the team's manager. He has been wildly successful at the helm, leading the team to a bronze medal his first tournament(WBC 46), and a championship his second tournament(WBC 47), while getting to the quarterfinals in his third and fourth tournaments(WBC 48 and 49). With the team still ranked in the Top 5, he is aiming for title #2.

He is an old school manager, less into analytics and more into traditional baseball thinking. He believes in the strength of this team, which are hsi starting pitchers- he is much more likely to leave a starting pitcher in too long rather than pull them out too quickly. He also strongly rejects the idea of a "bullpen game."

Manager- Ousman Kakay. 63 years old. Starting managing the team at the beginning of WBC 46.
Bench Coach- Isaac Oladipo. 53 years old. Fourth Classic on staff.
Hitting Coach- Baluta Colley. 53 years old. Fifth Classic on staff.
Pitching Coach- Juma Nyo. 51 years old. Third Classic on Staff. Likes big, tall, hard throwing pitchers. Bullpen coach for WBC 46 & 47, hired as pitching coach after retirement of old pitching coach at the end of the last tournament.
1st base Coach- Kitwana Badru. 57 years old.Third Classic on staff. Formerly manager of Northern Moravica baseball.
3rd base Coach- Bamba Sanneh. 69 years old. Third Classic on staff. Very aggressive, always looking for base runners to take that extra base.

Istria City Baseball Diamond, in Istria, Moravica, Banija. Capacity of 41,000

The stadium is located in Rukunbi, a working class neighborhood in Banija's largest city that is about 4 miles away from the beachfront. It has fairly large dimensions, and is consequentially known as a pitcher's ballpark. It is 440 feet to homer to straightaway center field, while it is 350 feet down the left field line, and 370 feet down the right field line. In left center it is 399, and in right center it is 410 feet. However, the spacious ballpark puts pressure on outfielders and advantages speedy baserunners. All home games will be played at this ballpark. This ballpark hosted many games during the XIV Summer Olympiad, including all matches from the quarterfinals on in the baseball tournament of the XIV Summer Olympiad.

The team used the same roster in WBC 41, WBC 42, and WBC 43.Ever since the disastrous WBC 45, they've overgone an overhaul, with this being the first time no players from the WBC 41/42/43 rosters are being used in a major tournament. While they were able to maintain the same core for WBCs 46-48, a number of players have retired out, giving a pathway for the next generation to take the reigns for the Banijans.

WBBL = Western Banijan Baseball League, Banija's top-flight professional baseball leauge.

Other: When we are pitching, they induce a lot of ground balls. The strike out rates aren't terribly high for Banijan pitchers, but they play solid, fundamental defense, and they have strong arms all over the diamond. However, while Banija's rotation is one of the strongest in the multiverse, the bullpen leaves much to be desired, especially the middle relievers, who are well known to be the team's weakest link. For the knockout stages, we'll have one starter in the 4 man rotation available every game for an inning or two out of the bullpen. That is listed in the rotation. If those guys are brought in, it is for an absolute maximum of 35 pitches, however many outs that takes.

Drunk Hall of Famers at the Local Tavern

50th World Bowl Special Hall of Fame Edition

Style modifier: +5
Park factor: 200

Pitching rotation

Drunk Hall of Famers only uses 3 starting pitchers. They have good stamina and plays 9 innings.

1. Michael "Rocketman" Newman
2. Cassie
3. Super Llama

Bullpen

If there's extra innings, any of the bench players can replace the starting pitchers. Only if there's extra innings.

Batting line up

Note 1: The starting pitchers are the best batters on the team and they bats 3rd.

Note 1: These players (except the pitchers) don't have an assigned position, so in the 1st inning, Zwangzug can play 1st base but in the 4th inning he can decide to play short stop and in the 8th inning he can play catcher. I know, it's a pain in the ass for official scorers.

Note 2: There is no DH. If the home team uses a DH, the pitcher still bats instead of a DH.

1. Milchama
2. Schiltzberg
3. Pitcher (Either Newman, Cassie or Super Llama)
4. Zwangzug
5. Qazox
6. Nova Anglicana
7. Western Fidel
8. Az-cz (The oldest dude on the team)
9. Taeshan

Bench

Saugeais
Maklohi Vai
Tocrowkia
Gregory Covello
Darmen
Lycrabon Barnett
Sangti Barangay
Ko-oren
Equestrian Pony
West Phoenicia

Home stadium:

Cassie's backyard. Capacity: 25 (standing seats only)
Park factor: 200

Note 1: Cassie lives 500 yards from the local tavern.
Note 2: Michael Newman is her neighbor, he lives in the house you see on the right.

Note 3: Home (Drunk People) locker room is in Cassie's home. Visiting teams locker room is in Michael Newman's home.

Kohnhead National Baseball Team
Nation Name: The Galactic Empire of Kohnhead
Abbreviated Name: Kohnhead
Nation Trigramme: KND
Nickname: The Pandas(The only time it's not The Brains)
Overall Record: 21-27
Rank: 34

Info: Kohnhead did okay last WBC in Newmanistan ending with a 14-16 record in the group stage good enough to finish in 5th of their 6 team group which was obviously not enough to qualify for the next round. Unlike last time where we were unranked we will come in ranked 34th in a massive field for the 50th WBC. Expectations for this team are making it to the round of 32 especially with our U-21 team coming in 4th at the most recent IBS, three players from that team (and one coach) will be here for this WBC. There is no domestic league in Kohnhead, only amateur teams although one player does play in South Newlandia that being Lucca Hahn who plays for the Rüsselsheim Blue Sox.

Coaching Staff:
Head Coach: Clay Glass, 50 years old (M)
Glass will guide this team, although he was a surprise pick for the job. He rose through the ranks having first been a pitching coach before being named to the team.

Hitting Coach: Phoebe Chapman, 53 years old (F)

Pitching Coach: Belle Parry, 69 years old (F)

Bench Coach: Dewey Horn, 73 years old (M)

Starting Pitchers
SP-RH Ralphie Bloggs, 25 years old (M)
Bloggs is the team's ace and is one of the best players. He has five pitches but really only uses four of them his 4 seam, slider, change, and curve. His speed tops out a 95 mph normally around 93 but it's his control and movement that got him in this position. Bloggs can normally go 7 innings into games but will reach the full 9 on occasion.

SP-RH Fletcher Crouch, 21 years old (M)
Crouch is a very different type of player than Bloggs and that's why he's our number 2, although he most definitely has the upside of a true number 1. Crouch has our best arm capping out a 98-99 mph at his best with a slow windup, but he can be very inaccurate and needs to develop a true secondary pitch whether it be a curve or a slider.

SP-LH Sharon Mclellan, 30 years old (F)
Mclellan is a low upside southpaw pitcher on the wrong side of 30 at this point that is an okay at best third pitcher in the rotation, however before long we could easily see her supplanted by Allan Fox if he outperforms her. With Mclellan you know you're going to get 6 solid innings where they score 3 or 4 runs as she tries to navigate with a slowing fastball, slider, and change.

SP-RH Allan Fox, 20 years old (M)
Fox is a flamethrower with accuracy and stamina issues. While he can get up to 97 mph on his pitches faster than most players on the team his accuracy issues are well documented. He is a streaky player so he will follow a shutout with a 7 runs in 2 innings performance. Fox had a very good IBS which why he got promoted to the National Team for the WBC and considering his age you can expect to see him supplant Mclellan by WBC 51.

SP-RH Murray Marshall, 27 years old (M)
Marshall is an unspectacular 5th starter who is just here to give everyone else rest just like most 5s in the rotation. Marshall's best trait is his knowledge of the game and IQ. He can pick off and fool base runners pretty easily and studies hard to find what a hitter's weakest pitches are as his skills aren't good enough to beat them by themselves.

RP-RH Austin Sutton, 36 years old (M)
Sutton is at his last WBC and is thought to be the future pitching coach for the team especially considering how well he did in this role at the most recent IBS. Sutton as a pitcher is an aging vet who cannot pitch everyday but will give you a quality inning when callled upon which better than most of the bullpen can say.

RP-RH Jasmine Millington, 25 years old (F)
Jasmine Millington is the reliever called upon to go 2-3 innings if the starter can't make it far into the game and we need someone to get us through to the 7th. Millington in addition has a pretty good fastball but is most known for her screwball which is not a normal or usual pitch.

RP-LH Nela Fowler, 28 years old (F)
Fowler is really only on this team because she is a left-handed specialist and can be counted on to pitch to lefties on the other team, something none of our other pitchers can do. Fowler is really only brought in if they have a stretch of good lefties and while she will pitch against right handed batters it normally doesn't turn out well.

RP-RH Scarlett Arroyo, 20 years old (F)
Arroyo is a developing reliever who will be pitched most of the time in the 7th inning if Millington needs rest. Arroyo has the same skillset as Millington (without the screw) except that Millington can go further than Arroyo. Arroyo throws decently hard and gets good movement on her pitches and is of course only 20.

Set up Melissa Berger, 22 years old (F)
Berger is the set up pitcher for the 8th inning. She's okay with no real fastball but she makes up for it with a plethora of other pitches in her arsenal. Maddy Lane is on a short leash as the closer and Berger might have to move down there if Lane performs poorly.

CP Maddy Lane, 19 years old (F)
Lane was a very surprising call up to the National Team and what's even more surprising is that she's our starting closer. Lane has talent there's no question about that but she struggled in the IBS and is being handed this job. Yes, Lane is the closer of the future it's just I don't quite feel she is ready for this role and if she struggles Berger will have to move down to become the closer.

Starting Lineup
1. CF-RH Lucca Hahn, 24 years old (M) - Rüsselsheim Blue Sox (South Newlandia)
Hahn is your stereotypical leadoff center fielder and is probably the best player on the team. He has the speed, plate vision, and on base ability a leadoff hitter needs to have. Despite this he also has above average power with great contact making him a complete asset. His biggest question mark is most definitely his arm speed but he has excellent range out in the field and that's why he has gone to South Newlandia to play professionally.

2. SS-LH Jessie Cherry, 27 years old (M)
Cherry has good speed in the 2 spot as well as nice contact and the power to go deep every so often. However his fielding skills are a bit below average for a shortstop. Despite this he has the best hands in the infield except for maybe Chiara Thompson who is on the bench until she improves her hitting. This is because our infield is not very good at fielding and we will commit errors a lot more frequently than most teams.

3. 1B-RH Monica Ratliff, 28 years old (F)
Ratliff is a power hitter plain and simple who will not draw walks and is an okay fielder at best with surprising speed consider her batting order and skillset. Ratliff and Vlad Burch will lead the team in homers and rbis and it won't be close. She is however a very hit or miss type of player as most like her are.

4. DH-RH Vlad Burch, 34 years old (M)
Burch as mentioned above is just another power hitter in the four slot. Burch actually was a very good fielder in his early and later 20s but with age and injuries he has turned into a slow, prodding power hitter with his plate vision all but dissolved. However Burch will still send a lot deep as he swings the bat so well.

5. 3B-RH Cecilia Dickerson, 22 years old (F)
Dickerson is our 5 hitter and has almost no power which is interesting for her role. Dickerson hits in this spot because of her speed, ability to draw walks, and batting average which is very high. Dickerson's greatest strength is her ability to easily hit it the other way meaning you cannot switch on her or she will hurt you.

6. LF-SH Stuart Dorsey, 25 years old (M)
Dorsey has a good amount of power as the starting LF and he transitions into the 4 when we play in stadiums where the DH is prohibited. Dorsey is also a switch hitter and can hit reasonably well both ways.

7. C-RH Sandra Craft, 29 years old (F)
Craft is the catcher and is most known for her defensive prescence compared to her hitting abilities. Sandra has a very good arm and her pop time is off the charts as she stops almost everyone from stealing second. She is also good on bad pitches blocking almost all of them. At the plate it's a different story as she struggles immenslely.

8. 2B-LH Artur Wagstaff, 23 years old (M)
Wagstaff is the same story as Sandra Craft, a better fielder than hitter although he is worse at both of them than Craft. Wagstaff doesn't have the best glove but his throws are powerful and accurate. At the plate Wagstaff can draw walks, maybe, sometimes go yard (rarely) and the hope was for Chiara Thompson to replace him. That clearly hasn't happened as she fails to take the next step hitting wise.

9. RF Helena Mata, 35 years old (F)
Mata is a defensive liability and a liability at the plate. It's an absolute joke that the coachig staff keeps her in the starting lineup in place of Holden. With Callie Dudley set to replace Burch after this series many are hoping Dudley takes the job from Mata because they are identitical in the field and Dudley is definitely a better hitter.

Lineup without DH
1. CF Lucca Hahn
2. SS Jessie Cherry
3. 1B Monica Ratliff
4. LF Stuart Dorsey
5. 3B Cecilia Dickerson
6. C Sandra Craft
7. 2B Artur Wagstaff
8. RF Helena Mata
9. Pitcher

Bench
IF-RH Chiara Thompson, 19 years old (F)
As eluded to before, Thompson has all the neessary tools to play in the field as the shortstop but has failed to show she can be even close to trusted at the plate. However Thompson is still young at 19 years old so she will get her shot at sometime in the future.

OF-LH Adrianna Holden, 32 years old (F)
Holden probably should be starting in place of Mata but she's not a very promising option if she can't win that starting spot back from Mata after previously holding it.

1B-RH Leon Mcintrye, 29 years old (M)
Mcintrye is known for his power but struggles in all other aspects and thus is left on the bench.

C-RH Prince Santana, 22 years old (M)
Santana is the backup catcher and he doesn't offer much. As was discussed with the U-21 team the state of the catcher is not good in Kohnhead and it would be awful if Craft got injured.

CF-SH Esme Mohamed, 32 years old (F)
Mohamed is just another outfielder who at this point is last on the roster as the 26th person and probably won't ever see the field during the tournament as the coaching staff prefers Callie Dudley.

DH/OF-RH Callie Dudley, 20 years old (F)
Dudley is an extremely good hitter who also hits for power in the 4 spot but is highly slow and cannot field very well. However her power in the lineup will be essential so she plays out in right field when the pitcher has to hit. She is a highly regarded prospect and will be the starting DH after this Classic and in the future.
