Indefensible
Poor play on the back line leaves 2 points on the field
Salwan Mynhier

Miscues in the backline led to a second straight disappointing 3-3 draw for the Black-and-Reds, as they opened their Cup of Harmony effort with a single point taken from their match against Omerica. Are Omerica better than their KPB suggests? Probably. Should the Black-and-Reds have taken full points anyway? Definitely. There was an opportunity missed here, to set the tone for a more successful tournament than last cycle, to emphatically declare that this team will not be mired in the 40's forever, sleepwalking their way through the multiverse's consolation tournament for the rest of time. Yes, the attack has had consistent success in four of their past five outings, but what good if the defense can't rediscover the form they had during mid-qualifying. The group's other match between Trolleborg and Baggieland also ended with the score even, though each team scored only two across the river in Bangkok. The results leave all four teams tied at one point apiece, while Twicetagria have yet to play, and have no points.

Trolleborg dropping points against the groups lowest seed was a chance to open up a lead in the standings that the Black-and-Reds could ill afford to waste. These results should impress on everyone that there will be no easy matches in this group. To make matters worse, the Imperium, over in Kelssek, blew their opponents out of the water in a 6-2 thrashing of Legalese and sit on top of their group heading into a matchup with Oberour ar Moro. A second straight cycle being shown up by the Imps is just too much to ask Confederate fans to endure. Realistically, the Black-and-Reds need to make the second round at the very least, or they risk dropping out of the Multiverse's top 50 teams in the new rankings after the cycle ends. A round of sixteen appearance would likely be necessary to fulfill any hopes of actually advancing our rank.

Black-and-Reds manager Kornelie Tamela announced a change in the lineup for the next match against Twicetagria. Rudi Dalso, who was hampered by an injury late in the match, did not appear his best even before picking up a knock. Skumantas Nakhutin will take his place on the back line for matchday 2. No word on whether Stovar Krieven's vocal cords, no doubt strained after a long evening of "instructing" his defense will be recovered in time. His increasingly strained directives were frequently picked up by field levvel microphones, forcing numerous broadcasters across the multiverse to offer apologies to their audiences for the mature language used. For the sake of Krieven's larynx, and the tender ears of children everywhere, a repeat performance will hopefully prove unnecessary. Twicetagria averaged two goals per game during qualifying, but were frustrated by opposing defenses on several occasions. With a healthy Nakhutin stepping in, and Tamela no doubt making some subtle adjustments to her defensive tactics, we should see an improved effort form the back line.

The lackluster start means there really isn't any more margin for error for the Black-and-Reds going forward from here. Seven points seems likely to be the bare minimum necessary for advancement, and facing the groups lower seeds in their next two matches, it will be a serious disappointment for the Black-and-Reds if they don't reach that total prior to the final match of the group stage against Trolleborg. Any lost points over the next two matches will transform that final match into a must-win situation, which is something that Confederate teams have not handled well, historically speaking. Most recently drawing in the final matchday of this cycle's qualifying tournament, they also fell short on the final day of the group stage in IAC 9, the final day of qualifying during cycles 82 and 83. I think I can speak for all Confederate fans when I say that we'd rather not leave things to that late a stage again.

ELEPHANT VALLEY MAIL
Sports -> Soccer
South Newlandia with solid defense but without fireworks

Savojarna, currently ranked 59th in the world, had a bad runout out of the Qualifiers after they kept qualification chances long. They identified weaknesses on offense as the main problem, while the Savojar defense seemed to be solid. For the Elephants, it was exactly the other way around, with the defense being the main weakness. In the three friendlies ahead of the game, they conceded six goals, and Manule O’Neill and Raphael Moreno taking a lot of the blame. Despite that, both would start in the match against Savojarna. The opening match of a tournament always sets the tone for a competition, and the Elephants had won both of their opening matches in the past (2-1 against Havynwilde, BoF72; 4-3 against Tamgu, WCQ85). They were determent to get a good showing in against a side that recently struggled.

South Newlandia 0-0 Savojarna
It was a game made for tacticians, while the fans seemed to have had less fun. Both sides neutralized each other well, and the two defensive teams both played to avoid mistakes successfully. For South Newlandia, the plan seemed to have been to double Krister Voynov. He is playing in Valanora, a nation well known to every South Newlandian fan now, and the Left Forward is one of the most skilled players in the team. Robert Wolverine wanted to take him out of the game, and sent both Manuel O’Neill and Raphael Moreno to watch him tight. To make up for that, Kevin Mohamed played a defensive approach, almost as a Centre Back, and Finnley Wallis played more defensive than usual as well. It worked partially, as Voynov rarely found good opportunities, but confining Wallis to midfield killed most of the creativity for the Elephants.

That, combined with both teams trying to wait for the other to make mistakes, meant that it was almost half-time before anything interesting happened. Raphael Moreno seemed inattentive for just a moment, and Voynov almost broke away. Manuel O’Neill stopped him by pulling his jersey, and received a rightful yellow card in the 36th minute. That meant that Krister Voynov had an interesting free kick from about 26 metres, but on a relatively tight angle. He took a shot, but a good save by Mikhail Trischuk kept the scoresheet clean.

It was half-time now, and Robert Wolverine seemed to be pleased. His strategy worked quite well, weven when it came at the cost of offensive power. He decided against substitutions after the first half.

The second half started with more of the first one, as neither team allowed the opposition many opportunities. As time went on, Savojarna tried for a goal more and more – after all, they were the higher ranked favourites, and they wanted to deliver. Robert Wolverine brought two fresh players, Abdurahman Bishop for Finnley Wallis in the 54th minute, and in the 63rd minute, Michael Glossman got to have his debut, being exchanged for Brandon Irving.
Until the 65th minute, Mikhail Trischuk had to make multiple more good saves. Savojarna broke through mostly through the weakened centre, as Manuel O’Neill was busy on the right defense side. When the last twenty minutes of the game began, the game finally started to have some life. As Savojarna grew more offensive, the Elephants got chances for counter play, as room started to open up.

In the 73rd minute, South Newlandia had one of these counters. Corban Green had the ball on the left side, and a precise pass got Simon McCabe into a good position. His shot was well captured by Iiro Pakanen, but it was a sign of things opening up finally.

Arvid Jotansson hadn’t had a good game so far, but in the 81st minute, he finally had a good chance. Nice play between him and Victoria Maersk, the Savojar captain, brought him into a good position. He took a shot, and the entire stadium could hear the ball hitting the crossbar. Mikhail Trischuk would have had no chance at all.

That was the last big chance of the game, and both South Newlandia and Savojarna took a point each from the encounter. While that probably counts as a success for the Elephants, they will still need to improve over the next games. Only one good chance will not be enough to take wins anywhere. Meanwhile, the Savojar squad sees their problems haunt them, as their offense couldn’t use their good chances.

Player Rankings

Mikhail Trischuk (GK, Captain) 9
He was the one who saved the point for the Elephants with many good saves.

Dhruv Roy (LB) 8

Jack Schroeder (LCB) 8

Manuel O’Neill (RCB) 8
Robert Wolverine found good use for him, and he used his opportunity well.

Raphael Moreno (RB) 7

Kevin Mohamed (DM) 8
He adapted to his more defensive role well.

Corban Green (LM) 7

Patrick McMora (RM) 6
He couldn’t live up to his potential, as the Savojar defense blocked him out well.

He was completely ineffective throughout the game.

Simon McCabe (ST) 6

Abdurahman Bishop (OM) 6
He couldn’t do much more.

As often after successful games, Robert Wolverine decided to start the same eleven. Obviously, he won’t use the same tactics here though.

Results for Group 11, Matchday 1

South Newlandia (101) 0-0 Savojarna (59)

Electrum (128) 0-2 Timuria (44)
Timuria collected the expected win against the 5th seed, and keeps all their chances for a deep run.

Current standings
Group 11 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Timuria 1 1 0 0 2 0 +2 3
2 Savojarna 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 1
South Newlandia 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 1
4 Zeta Reka and Hügeltadom 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
5 Electrum 1 0 0 1 0 2 −2 0

Schedule for Group 11, Matchday 2

Savojarna (59) vs. Electrum (128)
Both teams underperformed on their first matchday, and both teams will need to grab a win soon if they want to make the knockout rounds.

Zeta Reka and Hügeltadom (98) vs. South Newlandia (101)
The second matchday will see the Elephants face another team that debuted in the 72nd Baptism of Fire, and there are quite a few parallels between the two teams. It will be the closest match of the group going by ranking alone, and a win is extremely important for both teams. The Elephants are going to play their best, as this probably is the team they need to beat to advance to the knockout rounds. We expect a well-fought match, and maybe, we will even see some goals this time around.

THE CHICKEN CHRONICLES - PART NINE

Coy Hawk sounded like a code name, and easily could have been given his job. He had to remain in the metaphorical shadows, watching on and observing his prey. Calculating his moves carefully, he’d gather the information he needed, find a point of weakness, and then strike. He saw better than most and made a living off telling information he had only to his employers.

He was in spirit a vigilante, but in reality appeared to be an ordinary police officer. Yet the Jeckish Crime Department knew him to be their best investigator. So when he got handed a name to look into, he knew it was potentially big business. Of course, it could be absolutely nothing, but if there was a whiff of suspicion about a person Hawk put his nose to the ground like a bloodhound and didn’t rest until he’d identified the scent.

Today’s name was one he was vaguely familiar with - Chad Minett. Minett was a successful Jeckish investor, owning stakes in many of the country's largest and most powerful corporations. What made this all the more impressive was he always bought low - he hadn’t bulldozed his way into the game, but had worked his way to the top with an eye for things that others did not see. Much like me, Hawk thought to himself.

The reason that Minett had raised suspicions amongst the Jeckish police was his involvement in an investigation run by the Holy Empire football captain into the effects of the drink Cocoa-bo, and whether it was addictive or performance enhancing. It was not clear how Minett had got his place on the panel of judges, but it was known that a Jeckish business person was funding the trial. Minett denied that he himself was the financial backer, a claim that was swiftly verified by the authorities. But the question remained as to who the mystery bankroller was, what links he had with Minett and what his motives were.

These questions would not be easy to answer. Minett, owing to his vast portfolio, had a sprawling array of acquaintances in both business and his personal life, the vast majority of which were very wealthy. There were many people on this list that could be behind the funding of the inquiry, a number of which could have nefarious and possibly illegal motivations for doing so. Which was why Hawk had been passed the case. He would spend the next days trawling through the vast list of suspects, trying to piece the puzzle together and get to the bottom of the Cocoa-bo inquiry.

Celts Gear Up for Group 5 of the Cup of Harmony
Latrobe, Kelssek

The national football team for Alba and Cymru arrived in Latrobe just hours after the conclusion of the first match day of the Cup of Harmony. The first set of matches in Kelssek and Zwangzug proved that this season's Cup of Harmony was not messing around. Many upsets were heard throughout the two hosting nations, and Alba and Cymru is seeking to add one more. In Group 5, Flavovespia defeated Eastfield Lodge by a blistering score of 4-1. The national team of Kohnhead proved their worth by shutting down New Lusitania in a 1-0 match. Here are the standings of Group as of today:

Group 5 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Flavovespia 1 1 0 0 4 1 +3 3
2 Kohnhead 1 1 0 0 1 0 +1 3
3 New Lusitania 1 0 0 1 0 1 −1 0
4 Eastfield Lodge 1 0 0 1 1 4 −3 0

The Celts will take on the Flavovespians in Latrobe at Macquarie Docklands Stadium. The city has been bustling since the onset of the Cup of Harmony, and event organizers are advising visitors to take extra precaution when traveling in Kelssek during match days, but they also assure of the high standards in development and safety of the host nation.

Conchúr MacGregor was asked about his thoughts on the upcoming match against Flavovespia, and here's what he had to say:

"No doubt we're on a much more narrow path in the Cup of Harmony than the World Cup Qualifiers, which means we cannot take any team with a grain of salt. Flavovespia is one hell of a football nation, and I think coming out of these matches, they'll probably end up on top. Win or lose, the most important thing to do is to put up a fight. Anything short of the best that we can give will mean that we're flying our asses back home. The fans have already suffered for 24 matches of watching us getting ours handed to, so it's time to show a little grit and make up for it on the pitch."

"Four goals against an average goalkeeper," said Áed MacNeill, "is not impressive. It's not something I would boast about. Anyone at the Cup of Harmony should see that kind of opportunity and squeeze at least 9 goals out of it. Flavovespia may be heavy-hitters, but nobody has punched them in the mouth so far. If we can get a lead on them early, they'll sit down. I'm counting on my defense to continue doing their job. We had the strongest defense in our group in the World Cup, now it's time to produce the same result here."

"Fate will fall on our behalf this time around," concluded Teàrlach Levenax. "Perhaps the Dagda has closed the previous door on our endeavors to open a more meaningful one. It was well-known that we had no chance making it to the World Cup proper as we were. We had just come off the Baptism of Fire not knowing what true competition was. Now that we've had a long look at those who are ahead of us, I think we can adjust appropriately to take on the Cup of Harmony."

"People have laughed at us, scoffed at us for months now," said Celtic sweeper Jarquín Ramos, "but now it's time to turn the tables. There's no better place to start than against Flavovespia. If we can get at least two wins starting with Tuesday and get into the Cup of Harmony brackets, I think we've proved all we've needed to."

"We are grateful for this opportunity to continue our football run for yet another season," stated World Cup delegate Murchadh Mhathain. "Perhaps this is a sign to come for the future success of Alba and Cymru on the football pitch. Our nation has given a positive review of our footballers following the conclusion of our World Cup run, so it is correct to assume that our people will be supportive of our endeavors in this Cup of Harmony."

Scott Coleman earned two of the four goals for Flavovespia against Eastfield Lodge. The Celtic backfield will have to provide the best coverage as possible to prevent Coleman and teammates Martin and Feld from coming close to the Celtic goal. The Flavovespians prefer to keep the ball near the sidelines, but the 5-3-2 that Alba and Cymru runs should keep the wings at bay. Most sports analysts are predicting a Flavovespian win for the upcoming match, with the majority opinion being a score of 1-0.

T.R.: Well, here we are again on the air. We continue from the same place.

T.M.: Yes, I must say that in this Cup of Harmony edition we are, at first glance, in a much more favorable position. But we must immediately warn everyone that our advantage in the KPB rating over the other three teams of the group is not so big as to ensure us success only through experience and reputation. We have to work hard if we want to get something. How much the team is psychologically ready to fight for points in conditions like the current ones is a big question. The psychology of big sports is still poorly developed in our country; we are only begin to worked in this area properly.

T.R.: Let's go through the rivals now.

T.M.: Let's go. It is noteworthy that fate didn’t bring us to any of the teams before - for some reason it turned out before that in addition to the Pan-Pacific Cup we regularly faced the same opponents, Abanhfleft met us already five times. The first one is Baggieland. Imperial Glorious Empire of, if we take it in full lenght. A country that, by the way, is going in the same technological direction as we are, developing the audiovisual component of the media. We at FA have taken some pages from their rhymebook in their practice, but it takes some time to make something like that. On paper, this is the weakest of the rivals, both in terms of rating and the quality of their performance in WCQ, the team took only eighth place in the group, but we will not be deceived: the ratio of wins and losses and goals conceded indicates that all points were lost in a big fight. We ourselves performed last year only slightly better. Our second opponent is Omerica, followed by Twicetagram and JYPE, and together they look, according to statistics, approximately like we are a year ago, when we arrived at CoH first time. In the final match of the group, we will play with the most serious opponent, Squornshelan Remnant States. The only team in the group who has been performing in world football for years, and, of course, gained tremendous experience there. We can try to find comfort in the fact that all our opponents represent countries with a "left" political orientation, but this is perhaps the only reason to feel comfort. Such a group does not promise us a simple walk in the park.

T.R.: What is the forecast?

T.M.: It’s not in my habit to disclose such data, but today I will change this. We at FA will consider it a good result to go to the playoffs and won one round. At the same time, we must be aware that, for example, the semi-final for us is most likely an unattainable peak. However, the rule that the ball is round, the field consists of two identical halves and is played by exactly 11 people by each side, has not been canceled, but worked, I must admit, however, in both directions. With our loyal fans, of course, it looks like we have 12 players, but the fans, although they help a lot, cannot win matches by themselves.

T.R.: And I would like to ask a couple of questions just about the fans.

T.M.: A great topic for conversation, always with pleasure.

T.R.: But only after the brief review of the main events for today.

Night was coming into Ayacucho, Huaraz is known for having some cold nights all year round, even more if we consider that Huayramarcas transitioning from summer to winter at this precise moment, people were dressing their traditional alpaca skin sweaters, there was some disgruntling feelings in the environment against the visit of Hugo Mina to Amancio Cedeño, both were known for having obscure interests, hence they decided to reach power positions into Huayramarca’s governmental structure because they clearly wanted to enrich themselves with a decent fortune and run away from an angry mob of people that would be Huayramarca when the population would be finally, and lately, aware of those gimmicks.

People were gathering around the Municipal Palace, there was rumors that they would decide to bring more mining business to the Huaraz department, hence, people was trying to manifest their discomfort against that plan. As it happens in little cities, feelings would be noticeable and also the rumor spreading speed, something that was demonstrated because there were at least 5,000 people outside the palace, in a town with 300,000 inhabitants and considering how Huayramarca may be apathetic, there was a feeling on the air that things would change sooner than later. Mina and Cedeño were passively speaking with the CEO of Nunavut Mining Cooperative, they weren’t aware of the storm that was forming just outside the doors of the somewhat colonial-ish palace at the center of Ayacucho. People from neighboring towns were also arriving, there was somebody among them that was filtering the entire conversation to the people outside, the crowd was somewhat silent but tension was building up at their own noses.

“So, what’s the deal for this Illimami project?” said the CEO, Mina interrupted “Illimani… Illi-ma-ni” and the CEO frankly answered “Whatever, it will be our ore mine after this phone call.” Cedeño and Mina laughed, they nodded and said “Indeed, it will be our mine.” They came with a quick number of reserves on the ground of said park, in order to attract the interest of the CEO soon, so he would be more prone to invest, let’s also consider the fact that it’s a shady company and it only wishes to earn money, with lack of environmental studies or whatsoever “Hmm, there’s at least production for 340 years, the entire mountain is made of minerals, so it’s a multi-generational profit for us.” They were, of course, exaggerating the ciphers, which were lower but still important to be considered for a project in case there wasn’t any major cultural or environmental issues involved in-between. “Well, we will go there as soon as possible” said the CEO while asking for a fax number, so the contract could be sent and signed-up as soon as possible. They received the fax, and sent it quickly while there were grumbles just outside the palace, a bodyguard from Mina’s personal security said “We have serious problems outside.” Mina didn’t care a lot, he seemed that he would be safe enough to do the deal, but the body guard insisted “Well, there’s at least 8,000 people outside with torches.” Cedeño was noticeable scared, Mina turned to be anxious and finished the call with the CEO.

Cedeño said mina “Remember what I told you on the bullfight? Well, it’s repeating once again.” Mina flashbacked on his mind, remembering that conversation while people was running away from the bulls while a band was performing “They killed my sons” those words from Cedeño made echo on Mina and he asked “How we escape?” Cedeño said “We will need to scape via force, there’s no way to get out of here on a back door or with some emergency gates.” While a rock was flying across the hall, then a Molotov cocktail set on fire the curtains of the hall. Cedeño and Mina decided to run downstairs so fast that Mina fell off and broke his left arm apparently, one of the bodyguards decided to serve as shield for him while they would leave the place. One of the bodyguards shoot to the air in order to make people run away, it didn’t helped, since he was quickly taken down, meanwhile Mina and Cedeño decided to scape while the crowd was focused on the lone bodyguard taken by themselves, one spotted them and tried to tackle them, he took Cedeño on the ground while Mina ran to the vehicle, of which he, fortunately, had the keys and decided to drive away.

Cedeño was caught by the Serranos, he was insulting them while trying to get away, but it was in vain, since both the bodyguard and him were taken together while they were being tied up from their arms and legs, the Serranos started to beat them with kicks and sticks, their fury wasn’t able to be measured nor their joy while attacking Cedeño due to the harm he made against them, Cedeño somehow took his gun and shot dead one of them, while another group of Serranos threw oil and a Molotov cocktail on him, he was being set on fire while people was laughing at him, he was running away while Mina was leaving the plaza. On the car, Mina saw how Cedeño was on fire, he didn’t had chance to rescue him since he would be attacked for sure, the angry mob seemed unstoppable at their attack and nothing could be done in order to calm their mood. Cedeño was finally killed when a Serrano drove a car over him, the people roared on celebration.

Mina escaped to the nearest hospital, where he was duly attended, the staff quickly stabilized him while he asked for the news to be played by a cellphone, he was provided with one since the Serranos on the plaza stole his personal one, which was something critical for him, since they were having lots of secrets and contacts on it, it was matter of time to see a gigantic Mina gate on TV. He saw at his phone “Ayacucho’s mayor and a bodyguard were lynched by mob, reportedly, both were found dead at the main plaza.

Mina sighed and said “Shoot…” while fainting.

‘Well, it wasn’t as easy as we thought it out to be. Man, it sucked.'

‘Certainly not. A tough loss for the Grim Reapers last night against Busoga Islands, the likely favourites of the Group Ten and even more favourite of geopolitical pyromaniacs. Still, it’s not the end of the world. Of course, this just means more or less that the Grim Reapers need to play with improved form. Starting off the tournament with a tough loss is one thing, but continuing it with any form of losing streak is another problem to deal with. Any kind of a win or even a draw would be enough to at least prevent the history from repeating itself, and could serve to be a make-it-or-break-it phase for this group of young, talented athletes.’

‘Oh, no doubt. Of course, had it been played somewhere closer to home, they may have had a better chance too. However that argument is invalid when both the Islanders and the Grim Reapers are playing on a rather unfamiliar realm in Zwangzug, and that’s not really a good excuse to call for poor form. That does make me wonder why the Grim Reapers have been so inconsistent outside of home this cycle. They had one embarrassing home loss so far, as well as one tough loss to Chromatika in the exhibition stage, but their form away from home is not a story to write home about.‘

'And this doesn't that they can't do it. Besides, this Grim Reapers team also upset the fourth-ranked Banijans at the Reneegrad, and given the strength of opposition their opposition had to face, it was a no joke match. Still, it's amazing to see how much they can struggle outside the northwestern corner of AO, something that we too have seen in their 2-goal losses to South Newlandia and Eastfield Lodge.'

‘Indeed. I do not have the best answer to this, especially as the Grim Reapers were mostly absent from international competition due to lots of intra-governmental squabbles and bureaucratic messes the fourteen years they were kept at bay. Still, it is important to maybe look at some of the things they’ve been drawing issues and concerns from people the last while. The Grim Reapers of now, as we all know, isn’t really the squad that’s gelled well. Over the past two years they have shown great promise in the qualification stage, but have also shown their limitations under the current form because a lot of these guys have not really taken professionalism side of the game seriously enough. And that’s without mentioning key troublemakers on the team like Michel Fillion and his group of bandits and ‘jerks’- I get that the Grim Reapers cannot really exclude them from the team roster given their talent, but it’d be safe to say that Sir. Lionel Mah isn’t so happy about that either.'

'They really need to fix that problem. Period.’

‘Absolutely, and it's not even close.'

'Let's be honest guys. This Grim Reapers side isn’t really a horrible one, and they should be proud that after awful performances in AOCAF, Baptism of Fire and lots of exhibition matches held as My Little Valladar Presents the Grim Reapers VI tour, they have really stepped up their form. However inconsistent they may have been at times, and away from home, they deserve a credit. We can clearly see the improvements this squad has made, compared to the one that got spanked fifty times with a cricket bat after a horrible draw against Reventanagar at home, but we need more primetime Grim Reapers in action. The very Grim Reapers who upset both Fillindostan at home and Poafmersia on a tough trip away. Can they do it? Absolutely. Do we need that more frequently in order to stay a bit longer in Zwangzug? That too, is a must.’

Recollection, Chapter 9
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7, Chapter 8

Why did I come here?

Markkus wandered through the Riverfront district of Jaglan, navigating past crowds of tourists without really noticing them. His forged Savojar passport and documents had gotten him smoothly through customs and immigration control. Significant similarities, particularly linguistic, between the two cultures meant he could pass as Savojar without too much difficulty. It was a trick quite a number of imperial agents had employed to gain entry to the Confederacy, but worked just the same. He could have posed as an ethnic Squornshelan native to the Confederacy, but such a cover would require more local knowledge than he possessed. Markkus had briefly considered declaring his real identity and requesting asylum, but he did not relish either a long stay in Confederate Police Bureau custody, or to declare his location to Imperial Intelligence. Since arriving, he'd checked into an inexpensive hotel not far from the old city center, and gone out for a walk along the river. He still had no really idea what had possessed him to come here in the first place, so he'd decided to act on impulse as much as was possible.

It is quite disturbing how confident you've become that your increasingly irrational behavior is in some way sane.

With you around pestering me, I think we should both just acknowledge that sanity went out the window a long time ago.

Sanity does not, "go out the window," as you so crudely put it, unless you choose to go with it. You have surrendered to this, Markkus. You no longer seek to understand or recover, but instead allow yourself to be blown and buffeted like a leaf in a gale.

And where was fighting getting me? Nowhere. You can string a bunch of lofty-sounding words together if you want, but staying didn't make any sense. Just because I don't know why I came here doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

Truly astounding. I cannot continue a conversation if this is to be your level of reasoning.

Fuck off then, I never asked for your opinion.

A few moments of blessed silence, not that Melkochuck was ever really gone. Too bad I never got the courage up to tell him that when he was still alive. Feeling fairly pleased with himself, Markkus bought a newspaper, marveling that people here still preferred to read a physical copy rather than digital. While Confederate technology was a far cry from what had become possible in the Imperium, it was certainly more than possible to do away with this cumbersome bundle of printed paper and move exclusively to faster, more efficient digital delivery services. There was some antiquated charm about the whole thing that made him smile though, so to complete the archaic stereotype, he stepped into a small bistro off a side street, ordered a coffee and some flatbread, and sat down to read the paper. Most of the specifics meant little to him: a local politician he'd never heard of had gotten into a social media spat with a musician he'd also never heard of, a certain neighborhood of the city he had no idea the whereabouts of was slated for an urban renewal project to demolish an elevated expressway, the typical humdrum daily news of a typical humdrum city. The sports section was, of course, concerned mainly with the ongoing football tournaments, breaking down action in the first matchday of the world cup, and prognostications about the second of the Cup of Harmony. There seemed to be a particular mean-spiritedness to the reporting of the match between Drawkland and Reçueçn, which had ended in defeat for the Confederacy's recent qualifying rival, and victory for their region-mate from the greater West Pacific. There was minimal mention of the Imperium's resounding victory over Legalese, apart from come complaints made by the losing side's national media about the difficulty of getting information out of the ministry of sport. Markkus snorted, Free press? Gonna take a while to explain that concept to anyone back at the office. The grin abruptly fell from his face as he turned the page and saw the woman whose picture covered the local sports secion.

Impossible.

Tall and lanky with straw-colored hair chopped short just below her ears, her face still youthful despite the two years that had passed, and the great stress she must have endure to get here from where she was. The same cocky grin he remembered so well was plastered across her face, all beneath a headline that proclaimed "From Imp to Rebel." She was here. He didn't know how, much less how he'd managed to find her, traveling and acting on instinct, but she was here. A quick scan of the article beneath confirmed what he already knew. "Former Imperium striker turned refugee, Lyyti Vang inked a new contract to join Sporting Jaglan for the current SCFA season."

I owe you an apology Markkus. I have been too quick to condemn your actions of late. Our visit here should prove most interesting.

Dragoons Begin Cup With Loss
Missed opportunities doom Oberour Ar Moro

By Venec de Grant-Moulin

Oberour Ar Moro lost a close back-and-forth match to The Sarian, beginning their Cup of Harmony run with a loss. It was a game of positives and negatives from the very first. With just eight minutes on the clock Enerour Pique-Pain demonstrated pace and power to blow past a surprised Sarian defense into the goal box to score on Oodel Duoztiun.

The Dragoons nearly went up 2-0 in the 17th minute after a Taran Bele shot was bobbled by Duoztiun, before Jaxon Pieux swept in to clear the ball to the far sideline.

The Sarian woke up fully after 20 minutes, and immediately began to reply and reply and reply to Oberour attacks. The Sarian tied the match in the 29th minute, as a free kick by Hugo Sint Lo went over the Oberour wall, and just slotted itself under the crossbar for the first Sarian goal. The tie was broken by The Sarian's Wera Pauwelz on a thunderous kick from just outside the area on the eve of halftime.

Right after halftime, Taran Bele carried the ball through the defense and aimed a shot at The Sarian goal, but his shot was ricoched into the path of an onrushing Marzhin Petit who with a tidy finish tied the match two-all.

The match seemed destined for a draw until penalty time, when Oberour Ar Moro lost control of the ball on another blocked Taran Bele shot, and Maeri Beniut completed the counter to give The Sarian a hard-earned win.

Bele not able to complete moves was a worrying trend throughout the game. Mutliple shots from Bele ricochet off the goalkeeper, or were stopped by a Sarian defender, or over the goal into the upper deck.

Another concern is the number of yellow cards earned by Oberours. Maudez d'Annet, Annaeg Chaumeeur, Thommas du Contant de la Mollette, Laou de Sablonneieres, and Noel l’Aulogier off the bench all earned bookings. This could be a long-term concern for the team going forward.

Next up is now group leading Squornshelous, who battered Legalese in a 6-2 victory. Squornshelous, the second highest ranked team in Group play in an ultra-attacking 4-3-3, so this match could be a high-scoring affair.

Conlang enClave #005 - Iuq

Vè csoevjse eh hecjèom moun // I'm accompanied with verbs (no I'm not)

As I already told in previous editions, ve'ne is a contraction of the words "I am" or the translation "ve ne", but here's two things I didn't tell you: when you describe your own relationship to something by calling yourself or said something's own self accompanied, the "ve'ne" translation turns into a cyrillicised shortening which looks an awful lot similiar to it. It's called "vè" or something along those lines and it also is supposed to be shown when you put a verb next to the subject, who gives a crap? I wouldn't get off of this paragraph without some wonder to what the second thing I was going to tell you was though; ve ne doesn't need to be apostrophied at all; Geektopians prefer you address yourself in that way though because they are strange creatures who have an interest in football.

Completely unrelated to the lesson, I know you think I may be reaching for extra word count, reader, but I'm not. I just wanted to point out our CEO's feigned attraction to getting in with the kids with our official company slogan: "Be cool, be woke". The hell is that? Totally professional and totally composed, right? No. If you're reading this, Mazaika, just know you gave me your e-mail and if you don't change what I kindly pointed out to the reader you may be in for a spamstorm. Is that a threat, Abdul-Dayem?

Back on topic before I get fired, though, some examples would be:

"Vè nî eh ovji mûop" (translating to oneself eating their lunch) | [] | "Vè iehme" (translating to oneself being scared) | [] | "Vèon eh deuopiefj" (translating to oneself crying) | [] | "Ve'ne eh dûdeosiedjv foppîes" (translating to oneself cooking dinner for someone or their own self) | [] | "Vè qodvoâs è djsudjefj ehen" (translating to oneself hanging a picture on the wall) | [] | "Vèon eh fenjte" (translating to oneself dancing) | [] | "Vèon eh edmeôudjv" (translating to oneself exercising) | [] | "Vèon eh guhjmeon" (translating to oneself learning)

Ways to get off of work in Geektopia #1: "meivjepve teuosi?" // Ways to get off of work in Geektopia #1: "vacation?"

Now, the first thing you'd probably think when getting enveloped in your own work in this country probably wouldn't involve vacations of the sort. But it might when you're on your twelfth hour at your cubicle for the thirtieth odd day in a row, so let's learn how to ask for a vacation or really anything similiar to that in Geektopian. I sure would love mine to give me what was in the title..

"Ep gîofos moun mè teuosi âtèof ep Fîesfeuop tiu?" (translating to oneself asking to use a vacation day on a given Thursday) | [] | "Deovjgofj nî viedjv taet mi hu mius iessèofô, nes top ep gîofos moun mè teuosi e âtèof fî Maeop?" (translating to oneself presenting how they have a long list of errands that would also interfere with their work and then asking to have a vacation day) | [] | "Ce njeovj moun nu meivjepve teuosi e âtèof fup fese tiedjveop f-Jâom. Ep nciofj tî top diesv
hu mius?" (translating to someone making sure with their higher-up that they can use their vacation days for the second week of their given July) | [] | "Ep gîofos moun meivjepve teuosi e tdiofiemâ fup vsôâ tiedjveop fi f-Gûnjeos?" (translating to oneself asking to schedule a free day off of work for the third week of their given September)

A little note: months often begin with these little "fi-" prefixes that non-native speakers just getting into the flow of things can forget, don't forget the fi! Also, about free days off, Geektopian business usually give you an elementary like FP Ticket that can let yourself off of scheduled work by the maximum of about a week counting towards your entire working career. Don't use these in full to get off your job in the very first week of employment - fellow coallegiates won't like your work ethic.

Gold Coast, Northwest Kalactin
The leaders were sitting in a room, having a small meeting about budget changes for the next quarter. Sitting there was President Vincent Montiel, Secretary of Defense Mike Williams, and Secretary of State Juan Collins. A few other, less important government officials were also sitting there, not a huge meeting.

Suddenly a young man, about 25 burst through the door. He came in yelling “Banija just launched a couple Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles at Farfadillis!”

“Michael, this is a very shitty April fools joke, get back to work, goddamnit.”

One of the men at the table whispered “it’s February”

“You’re joking... right?”

The room suddenly turned from a calm feeling to being very tense, nobody knew what was happening.

“Mike, get the Banijan ambassador on the phone, I want to talk to him myself.”

“On it, sir”

Michael scrambled out of room, and got the number of the ambassador in Banija.

“Does Farfadillis know about this yet?”

Michael answered back “We really don’t know, Farfadillis doesn’t have much of a Government, however some powerful people in the nation may know, and have informed the people there.”

“Damn it, who is stupid enough to launch a ton of nukes at Farfadills, the nation is already on fire.”

“Well we have gotten word from Banija that it was foreign spies, not the Banijan government themselves.”

“They let a ton of foreign spies have access to giant weapons, why?”

“There is a very high chance that they may have infiltrated the nuclear facilities in Banija, and that the government had no control over it.”

“The second that they get nuclear weapons, a ton of foreign spies end up launching them at another nation, amazing.”

“Now is not the time to criticize the government of Banija, we need to make sure that the entire region doesn’t have nukes flying all over it.”

To be continued.

Northwest Kalactin 4-1 Blouman Empire
Welp, that was a pretty great win. Of course, you can say a 4-1 win is nothing special, but the players played a great game today. For one, the play was superb by striker Will Sanders who had a goal and 2 assists. The high octane offense for the Kalactanians showed today, especially during the first half. A total of 3 goals where scored in the first half by the team. One of those was by star striker, Jimmy McCarthy. At the current pace he is going at he will break the Kalactanian record for goals. We don’t think he will keep up the pace he is currently at, but anything is possible. Will Sanders also had one of his goals during the first half off of a header that was almost impossible to stop.

Daisy Cutter (nee Daisy Dallas) in Kelssek

Hello this is Daisy Cutter for Naked News Jeruselem.
It's match day 2 in the Group stage of Cup of Harmony 77.
In Group 6, group six not group sex OK.
Eraman took on Jeruselem, that's us and Garifunya met Sharktail. Garifunya had the bye last game.

Today TJUN-ia who beat us last game, had the bye.
Garifunya faced Sharktail but came off 2nd best losing to the higher seed.
Mind you it was only 1-0 so Garifunya did not disgrace themselves at all.
1-0 is not a terrible way to lose.

That left Eraman and Jeruselem who are two top seeds in the group.
We did lose last game and that surprised a lot of tipsters.
But today Jeruselem didn't make that mistake again!
We absolutely trounced Eraman 4-1 to prove that first game was on a bad day.
Yes well, so Jeruselem are back in the hunt because losing today would pretty much been a nail in our coffin.

A much improved performance mainly because we weren't tired from just getting here.
Or we were probably more organised after a rest and we're getting used to this place.
So all we need to do is just keep on doing this, and we'll be all good.
Just a reminder do have a bye still due to uneven number of teams of 5 in this group stage.

So the table is Sharktail on 4 points with 1 win and draw. Jeruselem and TJUN-ia on 3 points with their one win. Eraman with 1 from their draw and Garifunya stuck on zero. 3 team yet to use byes so the table is deceptive. Hey, we got points now.

Elsewhere in Kelssek, there were 5 other group games.

Group 1. Euran Oceania Territories, not Eura, lost to Tequilo 5-2. That's no good for your goal difference.
Ethane beat The Jovannic 3-1. After that Tequilo lead the table with 4 points.

Group 2. Blouman Empire lost again, this time to Northwest Kalactin 4-1.
Talamia beat Chromatika 3-2. Err, so we got like 4 teams on 3 points except Blouman Empire on zero.

Group 3. Oberour Ar Moro lost to Squornshelous 2-1 and South Covello drew scoreless with The Sarian.
Squornshelous lead with 6 points, with the Sarian on 4 in 2nd. The other needs to get a move on there.

Group 4. Delaclava lose another high scoring game, Vdara winning 4-3. They do this all the time.
Filindostan drew with Kandorith 2-2. Kandorith lead the table with 4 points but Delaclava still on zero.

Group 5. Eastfield Lodge beat New Lusitania 2-0. Alba and Cymru lost to Flavovespia 2-0.
Flavovespia leader on 6 points.

In the ZUG, we have Groups 7 to 12. And the groups there are close after two games.
Group 7, Astograth leads with 4 points. Huayramarca is there, they are from our world cup group.
Group 8, Darmen lead with 6 points. Also in this group is a team called Cheergirls, yes cheerleaders.
Group 9, Omerica lead with 4 points. Squornshelan Remnant States are in this group, not to be confused with Squornshelous.
Group 10, Quebec are here and well there's like 4 teams on 3 points. Sylestone aren't they are on zero.
Group 11, Savojarna and South Newlandia on 4 points.
Group 12, Valladares are current leader with 4 points. Newmanistan our friends are here on 1 point.

Another topsy turvy day at the Cup of Harmony, where the teams are much more level because well the best in World Cup finals and lower seeded teams have a better chance of winning here. But Jeruselem did recover and had a great win.

Well, we're still in the hunt and that's all that matters to us. Quebec are also there but that Group 10 looks like one to come down the last round.

Just a few messages!
Some viewers recognise me from a recently produced adult movie.
Yes, I am the same person. It's just weird seeing the same person in real life.
Just a reminder being Dallas, doesn't mean you're a Princess or have loads of money.

Now, people ask if this ban on Apple devices for official usage is real in the team.
Yes, it means any Apple device. No iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, iMac, Mac Pros, and other stuff that stores data.
However, you can use Apple stuff that doesn't store data.
Your personal devices aren't affected but if it breaks ... you go fix yourself at your own cost.
Oh yes, no storing confidential stuff on personal devices either.

Me personally I love my Bunny Phone, designed for dumb people with no money like me.
Incidentally Bunny Corp supply the official phones for the team, yes Bunny Corp are owned by the Dallas family.
They also own one of the sponsors Cute Bunny Cola.
I just had to say that.

Well, that's it from me in Kelssek.
See you next time when we continue our quest to win this cup.

The Daily Boing

Omerica 2 – 1 Baggieland FT (1 – 0 HT)

Baggieland tasted defeat for the first time in the Cup of Harmony at the hands of Omerica. An improved performance in the second half wasn’t enough to register any points on the board.

Omerica had the better of the opening exchanges, twice going close within the first 15 minutes of play, but the Baggielandian defence held firm. In a half of fluctuating possession, it was then Baggieland who started to turn on the pressure. In the 25th minute there was a half-hearted appeal for a penalty when Bassett went down in the box, but to be honest, it was only the Baggie travelling fans who were the most interested. A few minutes later, Richardson produced a wicked shot on the turn, that Augustin in their goal did well to save. Omerica then took the lead when Beckett fired past Osborne, who did well to get a fingertip to it, but the power of the shot ensured it nestled in the back of the net. In the final minutes, it was Bomber who went close again, but his shot went just over the bar.

Baggieland came out firing in the second half, dominating possession for the first 20 minutes. Both Richardson and Bassett went close with decent efforts, but it was Bomber in the 62nd minute who found the equaliser. Livermore found Brunt on the left wing, and then the vice captain delivered a perfect cross to his captain, who made no mistake as he headed the ball past the despairing dive of Augustin. The Incorrigibles then came back hard at the Throstles, peppering our defence with cross after cross, however, McAuley and Moore mopped up everything that came their way. In the dying moments of the match, just as Baggieland were confident of holding onto a decent point, Omerica pounced and slotted home the winner.

Baggieland stats:

Scorers:
Bomber Robson: (62’).

Possession: 48%.
Corners: 6.

Tournament scorers:
Jeff Richardson: 1.
Ginger Astle: 1.
Bomber Robson: 1.

Phew, a recovery!

Following an embarrassing 5-3 defeat to 4th seed Maccian, Oi Magoi were looking to rectify their mistakes and get back to winning ways. The only thing that stood in their way was Delaclava, the bottom seed who had just lost a game while scoring 5 goals.

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś seemed to be quite confident in his teams ability, and had this to say before the match began:

”Right. I know you lot are just off the back of a loss, but I want a f**king win, you hear? A loss would leave us bottom of the group with two games to go, and that is NOT a situation I’d like us to be in, okay? We don’t deserve to be bottom, we’ve had a great World Cup, and we definitely need to have our heads in the game when we get out to play on that pitch, you hear? Right, the match is starting soon, so let’s get out on that pitch and be ready to play!”

The match report is as follows:

1: Well, Delaclava start the game here at the Waterfront Dome in Kirkenes, can they improve on their impressive 6-5 loss to Kandorith or will they stumble against the Vdarans? Only time will tell, so let’s watch!
7: Durbridge is rushing down the wing for Delaclava here, he’s passed it forward to Meyer, who nutmegs Giannakos and... puts it into the net! Vdaran fans look defeated already, as Delaclava take the lead within seven minutes!
10: Vdara look eager to get the game back in their favour here, as Karalas dispossesses Campbell in the middle of the park before passing it to Athanas. Athanas continues his run forward, crosses it into Fotellis... who volleys it straight past George Ross! It’s a lovely finish from Fotellis, in what could be the last tournament in his playing career!
15: Ooooh, a bad tackle from Lukas Meyer here, who’s earned himself a yellow card for that tackle on Mavroglou. Free kick to Vdara.
21: The Phoenixes are lumping pressure onto the Vdarans, and they look like they’ll regain the lead anytime soon.
23: Kohut is making a lovely run forward, he’s taken a shot from range... which hits the bottom of the crossbar and goes in! The Phoenixes take the lead for the second time today, and their fans are loving it!
27: Kohut is looking for a second one here, but can he get it? He’s zipped past Giannakos... and he’s dispossessed by a lovely tackle from David Xeniadis.
32: Ingram is making a lovely run from the left hand side, he’s put in a nice cross to Meyer... who puts it into the net with a lovely cushioned header! Delaclava have made it 3-1 here, and the defeated looks grow even more prominent among the Vdaran fans!
38: Lazelis has managed to intercept a pass from Girardi, and he’s making a run for Delaclava’s goal, it looks. He’s made it this far, and he doesn’t look like stopping! He’s zipped past Cicak, dodges Gusev’s tackle... and nutmegs Ross to make it 3-2! A lovely display of skill from Chirstoforos Lazelis has struck a little bit of hope into those travelling Vdaran fans, and Væñøœrëñbérghüïś looks a bit less disappointed with his team’s performance!
44: Vdara have a chance just before half time here, as Karalas has the ball in the middle of the park. He puts the ball forward to Fotellis, who begins to take it forward. He lays the ball off for Lazelis, who takes a shot... which blazes over the bar and smacks a poor Delaclava fan in the stand. Goal kick.
45: Well, that’s the end of the first half. Vdara trail to the bottom seed, and I imagine that Væñøœrëñbérghüïś will not be happy about that!

”What the f**k was that all about?” began a mildly angry Væñøœrëñbérghüïś, ”We’re not exactly playing well tonight, are we? Like, come on, Valentinos, how could you not have cleared that cross which led to their third goal? Gods sake man. There’s still another 45 minutes left in this match, and I want you lot to use that 45 minutes. Get chances, take chances, score chances, y’know? Intercept passes, play dangerously, be ready to attack at any point, ya hear? Good, good. I want you to impress me when you all get back out there, and if I’m not there will be some consequences!”

46: Well, the match is back underway, and it’s Vdara who start this second half off. Can they overturn this deficit, or will they be stuck with another defeat? Time to find out!
54: Vdara look to have started this match better than Delaclava, as Vlahiades surges forward. He’s managed to make it near to the opposition box, and he’s passed it back to Mavroglou, who lays it off for Karalas... oh my word! Simeone Di Bradini, eat your heart out! That is a wonderful long range goal from Kimon Karalas! Vdara equalise early into the first half, and Delaclava look like they’ve taken their foot off the gas!
63: Lazelis is gunning forward for his second and Vdara’s fourth goal here, and he seems to be doing it with a lot of determination. He’s left Joseph behind, sent Cicak the wrong way... and slotted the ball past George Ross! Vdara have finally taken the lead, and Væñøœrëñbérghüïś is absolutely loving it! 4-3 to Vdara!
72: Vdara seem to have switched to more of a defensive play style now, they want that win, and they want it now!
80: Xeniadis has lobbed the ball forward for Stamatelis, who flicks it up and passes it further forward to Lazelis... who trips over his own feet and lets the ball trundle to Cicak. Bit embarrassing for the young striker, but I’m sure it won’t harm his confidence one bit!
89: Væñøœrëñbérghüïś checking his watch here, he knows that the match hasn’t got much longer to go. Can his team keep the lead for the last few minutes of this game?
90: Yes they can! Vdara get their first win of this Cup of Harmony, and Væñøœrëñbérghüïś looks more relieved than anybody else in the entire stadium! Its finished 4-3 to Vdara, and Delaclava remain bottom, having scored 8 goals! To put that into perspective, Vdara have scored 9!

In the dressing room, Væñøœrëñbérghüïś seemed quite pleased and relieved at the result. It probably wasn’t what he was expecting, but he was glad to leave with three points.

”Well lads, I hope you guys are proud of yourselves. Really, I do. That was a lovely game of football, and you guys managed to pull that one back when not one person in the whole world believed we could. Except us. We believed. We always believe. That’s why we make such a great team, we always fight til the bitter end and never, EVER give up! Keep this in mind for the next game, because it’s gonna be a tough one. Filindostan will definitely be a very tough opponent, but I have a fuckton of faith in you lot, and I think we can grab a point or three in that game, definitely.”
Come for the weather. Stay for the fitba. Leave for somewhere prettier.

Cup of Harmony 77: Grim Reapers snatch late win from another frustrating Mavinet's defensive display
by Vu The An, Associate Sports Editor

Mavinet suffered its first defeat in the Cup of Harmony 77 at the hand of a determined group of players from the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. The Grim Reapers overcame a sluggish start to stage a late comeback and got all 3 points on the Zwischen Soccer-Specific Stadium in Zwangzug.

The Cup of Harmony continued into its second round of matches in Zwangzug and Kelssek. The Water Buffaloes, after their surprise win against Xanneria in the first round, hoped to carry the momentum into the match with the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. The fact that the Royal Kingdom of Quebec is the third-seeded team in the group can be quite misleading. Employing an ultra offensive style, the Quebecois rode into the Cup of Harmony on the back of an impressive World Cup qualifying campaign. Ending third in their qualifying group in the first year of participating is an admirable achievement. Despite losing on their first matchday to Busoga Islands, the Grim Reapers were still a contender for a top 2 finish and certainly were no less fearsome than their nickname.

Head Coach Nguyen Minh Quan continue to build his game around the 4-2-3-1 formation. Ho Vu Thanh Hoang and Vu Tien Linh swapped flanks, while Vo Thanh Hai, with his impressive form, continue to lead in front. The back four did not change in this game despite a unconvincing performance in the first matchday. Meanwhile, Quebec also started in their usual 4-2-3-1 formation, with the front 3 players Michel Fillion, Roderick Yi and Pablo Mancosu the ones to watch.

Controlling possession confidently right from the start, Head Coach Minh Quan's team looked on course for another three important points after Tran Hoang Minh scored an beautiful freekick in the 14th minute put the Water Buffaloes in front.

Quebec, slowly getting back to game, pushed up and increased the tempo of the game. Many waves of attack were made toward Mavinet's half, but the Water Buffaloes stood their ground and defended well in most situations. The advantage for the Mavinese boys didn't last for the entirety of the first half, however, as the Quebecois were gifted an equaliser ten minutes from time when goalkeeper Nguyen Hoang Trung misjudged Marco Hertel's free-kick and left the net wide open for Roderick Yi to score with a simple finish.

Mavinet's second half performance continue to deteriorate defensively with many instances of miscommunications and concentration loss. There was certainly frustration within the Mavinese ranks to see Vujadinovic escaping a second yellow card for a reckless foul on Nguyen Quang Khai. The central midfielder was subbed off soon afterward when he seemed to feel pain in his ankle.

The day came from bad to worse for the Water Buffaloes when the Grim Reapers struck late with three minutes of regular time left to grab all 3 points. Substitute striker Min Dong-Jin got the ball in midfield and beat Mavinet's center back Ho Hung Dung in the area to complete the late comeback.

This loss was disappointing but not surprising for Mavinet. More surprising was the fact that Mavinet still manage to retain its second place in the group despite gaining no point from this round. Xanneria, after the first matchday upset, got back to winning way with a close 3-2 victory over Sylestone. Busoga Islands, Mavinet's next opponent, had an off day this round. This will be an advantage for the Busoga Islanders as they come into the match fresher and with a game in hand compared to Mavinet. Unlike the 2 opponents Mavinet have faced, the Islanders prefer defensive approaches to games, and so far that approach have rewarded them with 3 points against Quebec. Another contender for the top 2 spots, Busoga Islands will not make Mavinet's effort to come through to the next round any easier.

Can the Water Buffaloes jump the hurdle named Busoga Islands? The answer will be revealed on the City Athletic Venue in Arlington, Zwangzug.

Sylestone so, so, close, but not yet good enough.

Postby Sylestone » Wed Jun 24, 2020 12:21 am

Sylestone has nearly pulled off a miracle win over their CoH side counterparts Xanneria. With Xanneria being ranked 43rd in the world and Sylestone 228th, Sylestone were expected to be absolutely flogged by their opponents. However, they nearly, nearly managed to pull off a miracle. Read on to find out more!

"Alright, sentients. This is the Cup of Harmony. It won't be quite as difficult as the World Cup Qualifiers, but there are still some pretty damn good teams here. We have Xanneria up first, followed by Independent Athletes from Quebec, then Busoga Islands and finally BoF winners Mavinet. It is certainly one of the hardest groups, but hey, I have faith in you guys and I reckon we can give some of those good teams a run for their money. Heck, we could even beat some of them if we really wanted to."
That was the pre-game speech by the coach. Little did he know about how right he was as the Appliances went out to play Xanneria, 200 ranks above them.

The game started off with an almost immediate goal to Xanneria, but a brilliant save by the Brick Wall kept the score 0-0, still in the first minute. Seven minutes later, the Ironing Board pulled off a brilliant slide tackle to stop yet another goal being scored. Unfortunately, it was a case of third time lucky for Xanneria, as the Brick Wall let in a brilliant shot at the bottom left corner of the goal in the 12th minute. At this point, as if a goal was just the only thing they wanted, nothing more, Xanneria's momentum halted. They focused on their defence, but it was not enough, as the Mixer found a way through the line and passed the ball to the Tumble Dryer, who flung it in. With the score 1-1 in the 33rd minute, the Sylestoneans pressed onward and were rewarded when the Fridge captured the ball inside itself and ran into the goal with it. 2-1 at half time was a brilliant result and Sylestone's fans were jumping for joy.

"You bloody legends. That's what you are. Brilliant job. 2-1 up against one of the best teams in the Cup of Harmony? I could not have asked for more. If you keep this lead, I'll buy you all a quadruple scoop ice-cream after the game. But no matter the result now, I am extremely proud of you. Now go out there and keep the lead as there is still another entire half to go."

Unfortunately for the Appliances, there was no ice-cream for them, as they forfeited the lead and the result ended as 3-2. But in the first 25 minutes after the break, the defence line kept the lead by the skin of their teeth with some brilliant defensive manoeuvres. Unfortunately, the Washing Machine went a little bit too far and Xanneria was awarded a penalty in the 74th minute, which was slotted in. Both sides began attacking for the final fifteen minutes, but although Sylestone had an incredibly close corner and Xanneria yet another penalty. It was only deep into injury time, at 90+4 minutes, that one of Xanneria's midfielder nutmegged the Ironing Board and went onto "score, leaving the score 3-2 until the end of the game. Sylestone walked off deflated.

"I know we didn't get the result we wanted, but I am damn proud of you. If you can perform like that in every game, then you will make it through. But until then, let's get back into training and work our asses off until we get into that position. Now!"

Sylestone's next game lineup will be the same as the one for this game.
Football: WC94 Qualifiers, CE35&36 semifinalists
Cricket: GCF WT20 XVI champions, ODI WT II semifinalists, GCF WT20 XV semifinalists, EspoT20 I&II champions

The Trip: Part 1

Thomas Vecro steps into Royal Jovannic Airport. A long trip, much longer than what is good for you his mother said, but he needed it. It was going to be an experience of a lifetime. It was already dinner time.

He takes a taxi to his hotel in Jovannica. A nice quiet inn welcomes him as he checks in and unloads his luggage in the room and sets out for his first attraction: The tasting room. He arrives at a cozy yet sleek looking place near the city square.
Image

He is greeted by a woman who ushers him to a seat. He then gets handed a small menu.

Food for Tasting course
Joclark Cheese
Jovannic Golden Apple Pie
A selection of Nuts featuring the rare Pinu Nut
Crab Legs (Grilled, Rawish, Pickled, Dipped in Suri Sauce)
Selection of Rose and White Wines (all Local)

Interesting, Thomas says as he is served the Joclark Cheese. It has a slight blueish tinge at certain areas, but it looked bright yellow in others, he spread some on crackers, and bit down. It was creamy yet crumbly, a very strong flavour, he thought as he chowed down on some more of the cheese.

Next, the Jovannic Golden Apple Pie. The famous Jovannic Apples eh? The pie looked good, its golden exterior really appealing to the eyes. He bit down. Soft and supple, not so sweet, more savoury and sour.

Now the nuts. Walnuts, peanuts, almonds, Cashews, the lot. The pinu nut looked weird to Thomas. Purplish in colour, It had a oval shape and the texture was quite soft for a nut. It had a savoury taste, very good with the apple pie, the taste stays there longer than usual. Thomas ordered a second portion.

Crab. Delicious steamy Crab. The highlight of the show. The grilled one was soft, just as you would expect from a high quality crab leg. However, the raw crab was quite different. quite difficult to pull out, a marinated leg tasted creamy yet powerful, with peppery notes coming out once in a while. Pickled Crab was very new to Thomas, quite sour and stiff, extremely flavourful at the touch. The last leg, The suri sauce one, was soft and creamy, with rich westerny aromas inside, and a deep soy aftertaste. Thomas found it quite tasty.

Finally, Wines. Thomas had a glass of Gisteni Brewery X1X 2001, a deliciously supple red wine, and a glass of Duckingham Internien Aroma 2015, with a sweet aroma and light sweet flavour and special mixed brew. He also bought a local gin and tonic, and went back to the hotel satisfied and happy, and went to sleep, ready to start another day.

Ethane 3-1 The Jovannic
Expected Result, But our boys fought hard. Ethane scored two goals in the first half and another early on in the second, but our defence played well to fend off the Ethane attacks, and Rivilia Yunsala got a Consolation goal in the 75th Minute. Our next match against Tequilo, will be an interesting one and we will have to play well to have a chance of winning.

Starting Eleven
Mavin Tsuniki, Maruo Mulchaio, Raye Eng, Kallin Yustat, Nivario Wesh, Stockain Lelop, Jin Tze, Rivilia Yunsala, Sami Ning, Denigh Kian, Jovan Ilohil
ALL HAIL THE JOVANNIC!!!

The Night Before Royal Wedding,
Palais Royale, Quebec City

Your Majesty...Your Majesty….

As the clock struck six at his Office of the Palais Royale, Sir. Alexandre Kim looked outside his window. Almost everybody on the Royal Staff, from the Royal Historian Heo Dong-Soo to youngest of seven air equerrys in Pascal Lee-Maranda, had made way downstairs; Sir. Alexandre preferred to look outside in amusement.

This was how the Late Majesty wanted it to be…

Six months ago, Alexandre had been quietly observing in Sandringham Abbey, watching as the young Christine II ascended to the throne on a cold, February noon; the monarch was twenty-three years of age, with many decades of her reign to come. All in all, the feeling of a new monarch felt quite new to him, even as he had already served Her Majesty for a total of three months on official capacity. All these concerns were eased, however, as Alexandre could hear from above that it had all gone as expected; an intrigue that he confirmed the very next morning to Dr. Heo, the very friend of his.

He’s watching over us, my friend.

Clearly he was recognising the presence of the late Jacques IX, the late warrior-king best remembered for leading Quebec and the Quebecois Commonwealth to three war victories, fashions rarely seen in monarchs under these days of (semi-)constitutional monarchies. Of course, he knew display of such, while valiant, would be ludicrous for it would rather work against the unilateral support him and his fellow loyal servants should be giving to his daughter, a perfectly capable monarch of her own, and not him.

However, him and some fellow high-ranked members of the Royal House had continued to believe that ‘He’ was still among the peoples, and with the reception received by the Cassadaiguan royal family in their return to Quebec City to take part in what was widely viewed as Royal Wedding of the Century, it was a sign that their words were being heard from somewhere high above.

All will go fine. If anything, exactly as how all things go with life…

Fortunately it did, albeit expectedly so; with the Royal House of Jeongs having gone through many royal-to-royal weddings during the age of Quebecois Empire, the precedents had long been established to prepare for almost any situation. Given the reputation of the Quebecois monarchy as symbol of stability, divinity and security, it all made sense; while there were little to be introduced and some to be updated, all the measures used to capture the public imagination and private self already found in many rulebooks at Royal Archives. They had made sure all were to be planned well in advance, and to take particular contingency plans in case exceptional circumstances were to occur.

Fortunately, all worked out for the best as events leading up to now had so far led into a nationwide frenzy, with the most notable example happening when the Cassadaiguan Royal Family arrived the night before. With the arrival of their allies' royal house, people found an opportunity in celebrating a 4-day weekend and cashed the opportunity. As the Limousines and the security vehicles, operated under both the Royal Guards and the Royal Quebecois Army, came all the way from the airport to Heart of Quebec City, the citizens of Quebec City looked at the sea of royal vehicles and serenaded them with flowers, fireworks and handwaves to reflect a pageantry. Then, with the news having spread quickly, the people too changed to their own party gear, with the intention to stay in this path until the end of next week (9 days of partying!). The last night and day of parties, celebrations and of course musicians playing and dancers on the streets followed, as the nation embraced a slower pace of life for once.

He has passed the test. I’m finally ready to accept him. The people are ready to have him.

By the time they had arrived at the Palais Royale the very next evening, it had all looked too perfect to be real in what was the gracious invitation.
As Alexandre began to stretch, feeling the crack on his neck, he looked down to see the members of the Cassadaiguan Royal Family - the other half of the Sanctimonious Royal Wedding - smiling in grace and glee. Then, as the Rushmoris entered the palace, the royal guards delivered a twenty one gun salute from distance - which was accompanied by the series of fireworks that had been going on since 17:00 - to mark their arrival. The banquet had begun, and now it was his time to head downstairs to greet the guests and take part in the ceremonies himself.

As those in Concord Heights have said to Her Majesty in blessing, may we bless His Royal Highness with ours….

He thought the final sentence of his mind to himself, as he slowly walked out of his room.
With the success and the celebrations both in Quebec City, and across the Quebecois Commonwealth, Alexandre was proud to have taken part in first few months of Christine II’s reign. His part coordinating and supporting the Royal Wedding so far, and the successful reception received by the Prince Caspian as the first foreign royal to be wedded as Prince(-ss) Consort - first time since the marriage between Prince Henri (eventual Henri VII) and Princess Ana Maria of Valladares in 1938 - was a cause for celebration. After the previous year where everybody was quiet and solemn over the declining health and eventual passing of the monarch, it was as if the time had finally come for them to have a much brighter year ahead. However the foreigners may threat or call for sanctions, punishments or invasions against the Divine Land, had mattered little to the eyes of the Lord after all. The Lord who, to him, would occasionally come in the forms of the Monarch.

And forevermore.

South Covello Plays to Disappointing, Boring Draw against The Sarian

Last night in Kelssek, the South Covello national team played to a draw against The Sarian that ended 0-0. The result was disappointed for the team probably favored to win the Cup of Harmony and was, frankly, boring. There were a combined total of three shots on goal and just nine shots total all game. The Sarian managed four shots, of which just a single one, by Lech Houten in the 62nd minute, hit the target. The shot was easily saved by Matthew Tyler, and we're not talking a difficult save that he made look routine. it was literally right at him. South Covello managed a slightly better night, hitting the target twice from five shots, but Oodel Douotzin was never really challenged. The only excitement at all came in the 78th minute when Paul Paul brought Houten down with a studs up challenge near midfield and much of the crowd expected a straight red, but Paul was given only a yellow, a lucky break as it did not force the Rebels down to ten men. There were barely even any corner kicks - two for South Covello and one for The Sarian. It was an incredibly boring game.

South Covello now sits in third place with a single point, but does have a game in hand over Squornsheleous and The Sarian, who sit in first and second respectively, thanks to the Matchday 1 bye. Next up the Rebels will face Squornsheleous, the number two-seed in the group. A win there would put the Rebs back in position to do some damage, and with The Sarian having a bye, would put them in second place if they win by more than one goal. After that it gets significantly easier, finishing with group minnows Legalese and Oberour al Moro, so beig in an effective tie for second place going into that would be a huge boost.

Head coach Richard Hawkins said after the game "Obviously we're disappointed we couldn't go out there and beat The Sarian. But ultimately it's only one game, and we still have three more. I think we still have a good chance of winning this whole thing and hoisting the Cup of Harmony trophy when the time comes. We did shut The Sarian out, and shut up some of their fans in the process, now all we need to do is get some goals. Let's go out there and do that."

Going back to their days as Gregoryisgodistan, South Covello has finished on the podium at five World Cup Committee tournaments - three Cups of Harmony and two World Cups - but has never managed to hoist either trophy. Hosting just this one would mean a lot to the fans, though they'd like to return to the World Cup next cycle obviously.

However, it is apparent that the team is taking all this seriously. During the team's first practice after being selected to the Cup of Harmony, before they get on the plane to Kelssek or even knew they were going to Kelssek as opposed to Zwangzug, Hawkins pointed to the door of the locker room and said "If you're not going to take this as seriously and play as hard as you would if this were the World Cup, you can walk through that door right now and we'll see you next cycle. I want guys who want to win this." Nobody moved. They all stayed right where they were. It was a clear vote of confidence that the entire team is taking this seriously, which makes the scoreless draw with The Sarian all the more disappointing. The good news is there's a long way to go in the group stage, plus even more to go in the tournament if the Rebs make the knockout stage.

Meanwhile, a sizable fan contingent has traveled all the way from South Covello, with about 20,000 Supporters in attendance at the game, and they too appear to be taking this very seriously, singing glorious songs about Rebel glory and coconuts and all sorts of fun stuff. This is a chance to halt some of the negative monentum from the last few cycles and finally win that WCC trophy, and the fans and players are loving every minute of it, even if it's not the World Cup. It's also quite clear Coach Hawkins is playing for his job, and that has to give him and the team a push as well.

Statement by President Luisa Benitez

The South Covellan government is deeply concerned by events out of the Free Republics, where Consul candidate Samuel Izmailov has threatened to invade South Covello as well as virtually every other nation in the Multierse. However, given his specific threats to South Covello, and the increasing chance that he might just pull the unthinkable and win the election, I want to make a few things quite clear. Our nation is not an anarchy as you claim, we have laws, and courts, and juries, and ultimately as part of a free society, our government must abide by any not guilty verdict issued by a jury. Our Constitution provides strict prohibitions on double jeopardy, so Carter Redwin's assassin cannot be charged again, as much as you might want him to. Furthermore, although we have no desire to interfere in Republican domestic affairs, or in any foreign conflict you might create, if you come here, attack us, and threaten our domestic system, we will not hesitate to fight back and, if necessary, have Mr. Izmailov personally arrested and charged with crimes against the South Covellan people, and perhaps even imprison him on the Island Prison where all the inner-circle Gregists are. Housing all those tyrants together would be deeply symbolic, but we do not wish to do so unless Mr. Izmailov forces our hand. To Samuel Izmailov, I say simply this - stay out of our business and we will stay out of yours. But we are a plucky bunch, and if you attack, we will destroy you.

Hello and good morning guys. Welcome back to all my viewer, thank you for always stick with me. I can see there are a few same name pop up every time I live. I know you all have your commitment but to for you to lend me some of your time thank you.

For today I still doing my streaming alone. My wife, Fira have left this morning and take a flight to Kelssek to join Sharktail NT as support staff from SFA. She gets a holiday for a few weeks now she has to work again. But she said she will love to join the stream if she has free time later.

Okay, today I not stream from home. Now I at Pengkalan Jati elementary school. You may think about what I doing here. Ok, I will tell you. I come here for some special event and it has relation to football. With me today we have two professional players from the most successful team in the league Kota Jembal FC. Even we cannot come with their best player since they have an international duty, still, all other players also have been a role model and idol by the student. For your information, this school have a class for a special student. Not special because they outstanding but because they born not like normal people.

All of this has been planned by their teacher. Madam Sarah, a teacher who assigned to take care of 15 special case student who studies here. She planned this as the gift for all his student. Last time she does some test on her student. The result shows that most of the student like football. Some of the comment from the student said they want to be a professional player. For some of them, they said they want to meet the pro player. So Madam Sarah calls Fira for some help. Fira tries to contact some player to fulfil Sarah request and asked me to record this. So with me today we got two main core of Kota Jembal this season, Imran and Randy. So let's go.

(Arrives in front of the classroom) So let go in first. Imran and Randy will wait outside. (Enter the classroom). Good morning. ( Good morning sensei). I not a sensei. I am reporter. (Uncle, what is your name?) My name is Nazri. ( Uncle, what is reporter?) it is someone who tells others about what happens. (What you telling uncle?) Me. I tell people about the sport. (Sport? Are you tell about football too?) Yeah, I tell about football too. Do you guys like football? ( I like it. I want to play football). (I want to play football in a big stadium). (Me too). Waah, you guys have a big ambition. Uncle likes it. So who your idol in football? (Gaby). (Gaby). (Ahmad). (Harold). Most of you like Gaby. Why do you like him? (Because he scores the goal. He good). Oh, I see. Have you guys ever watch a football match at the stadium before? (Yess). Do you guys know about the football team from this area? (silent...). (One kid raised his hand and said Kota Jebal). Not Jebal, it Jembal. They are the best team right now. (Uncle, why Kota Jembal said as the best team?) Because the won the league and also they are the team with the most title win. Do you guys know this team? (Yess). Ok, how about their player, can you guys said some of their player names? (Virman, Harold, David). Basically, you all know their core player. Oh, I left my present for you outside. Please, bring the present here. (Virman and Randy enter, all the student suprise, some not even moved a bit. Some of them run to the teacher. Some of them cheering loudly). (Randy: Hello all, how are you today?) (Student still remain silent, some of them answer with low voice 'good day'). Ok, all. Seem like you all know them. Ok let me do the short intro, in the left is Imran while the other one is Randy. Say hello to them. (Hello uncle). (Randy and Imran: Hello all, nice to meet you all). (Uncle, what position do you play?) (Imran: For me midfield and for Uncle Randy, he is forward). (Uncle are you play together?) (Yeah we are on the same team Kota Jembal?) Both of them have won the league last season. (Uncle you don't play with National team?) (Randy: I not chosen by the coach). (Do you want to play with the national team?) (Imran: Of course we want. But other player better than us so we will try harder next time). (Good luck uncle). So how do you feel now, happy? (Yess). So we have to end now since we all have other things to do. So let take a group picture. (Ready to take a picture). Ok, all let shout together ok. 1,2,3, Sharktail fight. Ok, thank you guys for your cooperation today. Of course, you can ask them for an autograph. Hahaha, you two just be ready to give them an autograph. Ok guys that all for this time. See you next time. Bye.

Busoga Islands down the Independent Athletes from Quebec by 3 goals to 1 to start Cup of Harmony 77

The team celebrates the late, game-clinching goal in Matchday 1 victory over the Independent Athletes from Quebec

ARLINGTON, ZWANGZUG- Bethany Donnell spoke about it going into the tournament. How so much of the Cup of Harmony, more than any other tournament, is mental. She spoke to reporters in depth about how the disappointment from missing the World Cup can effect different teams in different ways. She spoke about how the bar was Pasarga in Cup of Harmony 76. A nation where qualifying for the World Cup is usually a foregone conclusion, they did not sulk about missing their second in a row. No, they put it together and put on a dominating and endearing display in Cup of Harmony 76, easily dispatching all challengers in Xanneria and Banija en route to a blowout victory in the Final, and a trophy. And look at where they are- back in the World Cup.

And we all know how painfully our own World Cup Qualification campaign ended. But that tournament was over- big games were left to play in the Cup of Harmony. A tournament that we've been in multiple times, and yet have never once managed to get past the group stages here. We had a pair of pre tournament friendlies before making the flight across Atlantian Oceania to Zwangzug. We had a home friendly, against World Cup participants HUElavia, and then another home friendly against the Commonwealth of Baker Park. Both teams who will be in the World Cup proper, both teams with ambitions in higher places than ours. Good tests, essentially, as we prepare to enter a major tournament for the first time.

And we know how those ended. A 0-0 draw at home against HUElavia, one that showed our defensive tenacity in the face of a World Cup participant. That's a positive result, and the fans got behind us for that one. The second? A 2-3 home loss to the Commonwealth of Baker Park. There is no shock there- there is a large gap in talent between the Commonwealth and the Islamic Republic, and there were probably quite a few who expected them to run us straight off the pitch. We played them pretty competitively, for two teams who were looking ahead, both in their final tuneup matches before the big ones came. Baker Park, as they would fly back across Atlantian Oceania to get to Mriin for the Finals, and us following on a plane behind them, although we'd end up in Zwangzug. Both teams coming out of that match with reasonable confidence in their chances to succeed.

And so that led us to our match with the Independent Athletes from Quebec. For the first time since World Cup 77, the Grim Reapers have returned to the international fray. They had a surprisingly strong World Cup Qualification campaign, staying in it from a very low pot all the way to the end of the road. You saw them race up 100+ spots between the start of World Cup Qualifying and the Cup of Harmony. Everyone knows the interesting part of this match, considering the fact that the Quebecois used to be colonizers in Busoga, virtue of their colonization of Banija. On the pitch, it was an interesting matchup as well. It was a Quebecois squad that liked to get forward, similar to the group's Pot 1 side, Xanneria. It happens. Going against a Busoga Islander team that is very certainly built to play from the back, to defend ferociously and then counter-attack quickly.

So if you would've guessed that the Independent Athletes from Quebec would have had the lion's share of possesion in this one, you would be correct. The Quebecois had 57% possession in the match, as they tried to continously attack. But the defense was strong. Despite giving up the majority of the possesion, they ensured that the Grim Reapers would have very few quality chances. And, of course, the aggressiveness of the defense meant they were jumping passing lanes and getting ready to quickly turn defense into offense. And that's how the first goal happened. in the 20th minute, a sloppy pass out of the back by Eileen Green was intercepted by Kamu Jacobs, and the break was on. The Islanders racing forward, a well-timed cross from Jacobs finding the foot of Ibrahim Fatah, who volleyed home. Quickly, the score was 1-0 in favor of the Islanders.

But the Quebecois would continue to pile on the pressure. They wanted a win, in their first Cup of Harmony since heaven knows when. They would force al-Shareef to make a number of saves. And, of course, with the big Royal Wedding coming up between their monarch, Queen and Empress Christine II, and her fiancée, Prince Caspian of Cassadaigua, getting a win would be a good attention grabber back home, as the Royal Wedding will naturally be grabbing all the headlines. The Quebecois would equalize right before halftime. A cross would find the head of Roderick Yi in the 44th minute, who was unmarked from about 8 yards away. He powerfully headed the ball towards the corner, where al-Shareef didn't have a prayer of a chance in reaching the ball. It was 1-1 at halftime- anybody's game.

What would happen in the second half? Donnell woudl make a bold move- taking off Jay Khano, the Dukuma SC midfielder, and bringing on Cicek Aga. She'll be going to Farfadillis when this tournament ends, as she is signed to play for a club there. Also removed Amitabh, and put Sarika Birla onto the pitch. Two bold moves, two attacking moves, to do what she could to try and win the match. And it paid off! The Busoga Islands held the lion's share of the possesion in the first 15 minutes of the second half, as they applied pressure to the Quebecois defense. Eventually, their defense fell, as it would be Sarika Birla who would score at the hour mark to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead. They then proceeded to go on defending the rest of the match, although it would be Kamu Jacobs who would score the clincher on a counter-attack in the 83rd.

3-1 victory! An opening day win for the Busoga Islands which would vault them to the top of the table. And interestingly enough, we'd stay there after Matchday 2. A four way tie with 3 points at the top of the 5 team group, although we are on top thanks to goal differential, even after our bye. It leaves us a major match on Matchday 3- we'll take on Mavinet, who beat Xanneria and lost to the Quebecois. A tough matchup. But winnable. Bethany Donnell said the following. "Mavinet is a quality opponent with a quality roster. They cannot be overlooked- see what happened to Xanneria when they overlooked them? But our goal against Mavinet will be what it was against Quebec- all three points. We'll do whatever it takes to get those points, and improve our chances of the knockout stages in this tournament."

Meghan Banks thought it was silly to have an off day after just one game of the Cup of Harmony, but understood why it was like that. It would allow for the team to do some exploring, however that would not really be the plan for the day. They were very interested in the upcoming royal wedding between Prince Caspian of Cassadaigua and Queen Christine II of Quebec.

“I bet she is going to look so pretty on her wedding day!” Banks told Daniella Catti, who was rooming with her in the hotel.

“Caspian is kinda cute but also always struck me as being a little nerdy. Like that boy in the front of the classroom who always raises his hand when the teacher asks the class a question.” Catti replied.

“Well, yeah, maybe. But I wonder if he had to go to school at all because he is a Prince. Like that must be really cool to be a royal person. You can do whatever you want and order people around and everything. But I would be a nice princess. I wouldn’t do mean things to people.” Banks replied.

“Hey, did you see that game where the team played drunk? West Pocono I think it is?” Daniella asked.

“Oh yeah, they beat Newmanistan. That was funny. I bet Newmanistan was pissed to lose to West Pocono. Aren’t they good in baseball?” Banks asked.

“Yeah, they are good in baseball. I think they suck in everything else, though. Wait, nevermind, they are good in basketball. But then suck in everything other then that.” Catti replied.

“That Sylestone team is silly. I want to play against them. But I wonder if it is illegal to sit on the bar stool during the match. Like, does the ref give you a card for that?” Banks asked.

“Yeah, and if you like open the door of the fridge and then slam it, does it hurt the fridge and take them out of the play? Would you get a card for that?” Catti asked.

“Probably!” Banks replied.

THE ROCKET REPORT

EMBARRASSING LOSS

by Brianne Henry,

In Zwangzug, they say that Ayathen Arena is cursed. A lot of things can go wrong there. Could’ve fooled me, because I think the Eagles Club actually did that already. I don;t really see how things can go wrong with our next stop in Keppal City, site of the alleged cursed stadium. I’ll play 1313 Dead End Drive all day, because our soccer team already seems to be there.

If it was not embarrassing enough to lose twice to Drunk People at the Local Tavern twice during World Cup Qualifying, we had an opponent laugh in our face about it. Not just any opponent, but West Pocono. That little country out in Atlantian Oceania that wishes that they could be us. Seriously, it is why their country is named what it currently is. In reality, West Pocono was founded by Newmanistanian explorers, but I will spare you the history lesson. These days, it seems like people just want to tear down anything to do with history anyway, especially if it deals with an explorer. They send a bunch of their players to play professionally here in Newmanistan. They want to be us. And yesterday, they laughed in our face over the two losses to Drunk People by getting drunk themselves before the game. And they won. Unbelievably, that team that plays such a boring defensive minded game actually scored a goal against us. Allowing one goal to West Pocono is about as bad as allowing five to Valladares. In turn, it has been announced that Ryan McNamara will not be the starting keeper for the next game against Geektopia. It’s not even going to be substitute Aaron Scarpa. In fact, it will be third string keeper Jesse Gallant that will get the start in the next game because at this point something needs to be done.

Obviously, it was a mistake to bring this group of players to the Cup of Harmony. So, I was thinking, maybe we should bring all female players to our soccer teams. The all-female rosters work in the World Baseball Classic, so why are we using men at all? Change this whole damn roster from top to bottom, other then Michael Starre. Thank God the World Bowl is coming. Or then again, we’re about as bad in that as we are in this lately.
