Public Statement from Preston I. Grant, President of Male Equality Now
(in response to Brittany Lawton)

In her most recent blog, Brittany Lawton, who’s always been an opinionated character, sought to criticize everything that the great organization of MEN has done. Her recent piece was not just to deliver an opinion, it was intended to insult and offend us, and undermine the very fabric that brings MEN together. While my father, who founded this organization may have told me, “Don’t persuade, defend or interrupt. Be curious, be conversational, be real. And listen.”, I just can’t do that. For Brittany has done all the talking so far, and is being really offensive about it. She knows that many people in Cassadaigua adore her, looking up to her as not only a soccer player and now a coach, but also a person; and she uses that to her advantage to claim that everything that MEN do, is a “laughable failure”.

Think about that for a moment. Look back at everything that you have done in your life to make yourself a better person, and perhaps to make your community better. It doesn’t matter what it is, or what it cost you, only the time in which you invested into it. Then imagine someone else, someone of whom is more socially powerful then you, using her means of broadcasting her message, and calling what you have done, a “laughable failure”. It stings, and then Brittany turns around and ends her blog with a most asinine statement of that she is in favor of gender equality, and claims that our society would be better off without MEN. I can’t think of a more absurd statement, because without us, it is business as usual in Cassadaigua. Brittany points to some examples where men have good jobs and opportunistically posted a picture in her blog of a great protester, an older man named Francis who has invested decades upon decades of his life fighting the cause with MEN, being arrested while other male policeman looked on. I have to ask you, do you think those men make the same amount of money do the same job as the women do? Actually, I have your answer to that. For the same professions, men make 68-cents for every dollar earned by their female counterparts. So while they were looking on, and attempting to do a hard job, they are also being significantly underpaid for it. That’s not equality, Brittany. You can go slowly all the way round the outside of the issues all you want and never get to the root cause. Because that’s why we, MEN, are here, to do that ourselves and expose why Cassadaigua is one of the most corrupt nations in the world. If you think that what we have done has been a laughable failure, then maybe we need to wipe that grin off your face.

I try to be happy that Cassadaigua is back in the World Cup. But I look at the team and it does nothing but frustrate me. It is a group, again, of women. Sure, there was an exhaustive tryout period to make the team, and if men were offered tryout positions then it’d be a little easier for me to watch the games. The fact that a man like Michael Schaefer was not even given a chance to try is out is a disgrace. Schaefer, only 25, is the leading male scorer in Cassadaigua right now and 6th in overall league scoring but no one cares because of his gender. How could someone, who’s been that productive, not even get a chance to tryout amongst 80 or so players? You know the answer. The only thing Schaefer has done wrong in his life is be born in Cassadaigua. While many other nations allow both men and women on the team, the disgusting discrimination continues with us, and men are locked out. Even if I didn’t have such a dislike for Brittany Lawton, I would find it difficult to watch qualifying, because they do not represent me. In fact, they represent what is wrong with Cassadaigua. So go ahead, take comfort in their 1-1-0 record thus far, and I’ll just be a hermit back at home and look for ways to continue to be a laughable failure. Or maybe the time has come for us to deliver our message a lot louder.

Triduum troubles as Zwangzug lose by three

Zwangzug lost to Saintland in the latter's home opener of the World Cup 64 qualifiers. A packed house crammed the Royal Stadium and otherwise filled up the small municipality of St. Petrus, as the home team won 3-0. Then again, when your home stadium is as removed from cities of any size as ours is, you really can't complain.

The match was delayed by thirty minutes as Saintland went through a long routine of patriotism, culminating in the singing of their national anthem, and the presence of planes from the Royal Air Force (which is a branch of the country's military, which exists). "I wouldn't say it put us off our game, exactly," coach Bridget Scroves admitted after the game. "We knew, compared to us, they'd probably be more likely to make a show of it. In fact--well. I'd better not--that is to say, we should have figured out what we're doing, now that this first game is behind us. Do we really have to sing the national anthem? Are we going to find some instrumentalists to just do that again? Or maybe we can get rid of the entire thing, it's a bit of a joke."

Once the game got underway, however, it was all business for the red and white side. Saintland, like Zwangzug, play with a single forward, and it was that Stephanus Vagionius who got the initial goal off a Paulus Flaccus pass, barely three minutes in. Attacking midfielder Prince Andreas scored just before halftime, which led to a halftime show from anthem-performers Cantus Virginum. "We were obviously reviewing the first half and pointing out how we could maybe try and tighten up," Scroves would say afterwards, "so no, I couldn't possibly comment on how well that went. I'm glad they have something of a performance, though, just in general to keep the fans engaged and show off different talents, so it sounds like a fine idea." Andreas would score the third and final goal after a long pass from defender Lucas Aufidius.

Saintland finished the game with seven defenders on the pitch. "That is something I'm not used to," said captain Brett Chrowder, "and I say that having been to Guariday. What's strange is that they were a little more quick to attack than us, though I guess by that point they figured they didn't need to score any more."

Scroves, in contrast, had not been too surprised to see the Jucundius brothers be substituted on. "I mean, in a country this small--yeah, to some extent, the talent will run in the family. Once I'd seen what these Princes get up to, it was clear it was going to be one of those sorts of teams. That's how it goes."

Patricia Eliot, of the league champion Canbix Muses, had earned a yellow card half an hour in for fouling Petrus Mamilius. "I took a risk," she shrugged afterwards, "and it paid off, I mean, we weren't playing very well, so I wasn't afraid to show them we were still in this game, we weren't going to let them push us around. Sure, we lost, but at least at that point, we were still going to make a fight of it. Sometimes it won't change the game, sometimes at Canbix it can."

Zwangzug will next face Audioslavia, who are coming off a shock draw at home to Spagbogia. And by "at home" is meant "in Kjeligsted, beyond their technical borders." Isolated home cities, indeed...

Las Palabras de Libertad
German American States 0-2 Western Cuba

The middle of the rp contains what could be considered a godmod/strange event. However though Tyrants never posted a world cup roster in the roster thread, so I'm assuming I have full rp powers to do what I want.

Javier Andino

God bless our actual fans, who proved once more last night that Western Cuba should not be portrayed by the actions of the "Red Army". Enough though the Cuban Conquistadors have been forcibly disbanded, the spiritual presence by their fans is still very well there. The seal of the Conquistadors may not be hanging triumphantly across the stadium, but its supporters still sing, cheer, and dance, showing the world the true Western Cuban fan.

The "Red Army" was still in the stands, paid by the government to dress up in military uniforms and to torment the opposing team with rude uncalled behavior, but in a way karma sort of hit the "Red Army" last night and the government that pays for them to do so. While it technically made our defense concede a goal, we got away with the win, so its a win-win situation for the true fans of Western Cuba.

Throughout the game, Western Cuba proved its dominance over the Tyrants, which ironically describes our dear leader Makarov pretty well. Perhaps it should take refugee there once the Pagians kick his butt out of Havana. Early in the 8th minute, Western Cuba already found a goal with Tito Moreno scoring first, his third goal of qualifying. In the 34th, Mostovoi would strike in a goal and then Moreno finished off with another goal during the 62nd, this time off of a free kick.

In between this Tyrants only managed to record one shot on goal, which unfortunately for the Western Cuban defense was an excellent kick and Osip Semshov could do nothing about it as it went in the upper-right corner of the net. So at the 74th minute, Western Cuba was leading comfortably until a scare happened that no surprise the "Red Army" committed.

A one-two pass by Tyrants created an attack opportunity that had rarely happened so far in the game, one of Tyrant's forwards attempted a through ball towards one of their players making a run. Zakhar Yurkov looked ready to intercept the ball and end the attack, but suddenly a flare zoomed by his position, startling him and giving the opponent the open ball. With an open shot on goal, the Tyrant forward took this opportunity and hit a shot that rocketed out of Semshov's reach and into the net, making the situation for Western Cuba much more desperate.

Looking at highlights after the game from a non-state controlled media (thanks to Mr. Makarov's crappy sports network), it was noted that the red flare had came from the "Red Army" section of the stadium, which to me is no surprise.

Will the "Red Army" be fined or kicked out of attending future games, I highly doubt that, well at least in Western Cuba. Even though they almost cost us a valuable three points, Makarov is too stupid to realize how dangerous his little gang actually is. As of the ruling soccer/football body, I have no clue if we even have one, and if we do they haven't done much to address the situation already. No it looks like only opponents during away games will perhaps take need of the situation, and I just hope they're smart enough to realize that the "Red Army" is no good for each side. Next thing we know, a death will occur, and the whole football world will go nuts.

Enough about my ranting, I just want to try to enjoy the fact that we have six points in Group 9 and to carry on with our win streak. Winning these first two games was of critical importance, not only to set up a foundation for the next qualifying games, but to recover from our friendly loss against the Equestrian States. (A team we never seem to win against, perhaps we should start putting mustangs and stallions into our roster?)

The next stretch of the tournament will perhaps be the most important for Western Cuba. Both games are away and we face two of the more tougher teams in the group, Inevitable Syndicate and Mytannion. With Apox drawing to Silar, we can take advantage of this and come out with a solid four points to throw ourselves into a good position ahead of Apox for second. (And possibly even first).

If we manage to get out of this away portion strong, then it will thicken the foundation already set by this team and the rest of the tournament should firmly be in our hands. Yes I know it is early, but to get 4-6 points out of Syndicate and Mytannion away is absolutely outstanding and something I actually see as reasonable.

This will be the big test for Moreno, he's the only player on the team with significant experience in qualifying. Now its time to lead and set himself as an example to his fellow teammates and to show the world the true potential of Western Cuba.
Now known as the Technological State of Adros, the successor state of Western Cuba

Just taking a break from my other RP series.
Dear Diary,

We concluded yesterday's match with an unexpectedly poor result; draws are not going to get us into the World Cup proper. Such an accomplishment, I believe, is vital to this nations health; what, with the war and the disappointing failure in the World Korfball Classic, I'm sure the citizens of our great nation could use a little something to lift their spirits right now. Of course, the citizens are not the only ones who could use a lift; it seems our squad is experiencing a bit of a let-down as well. Ever since that little "incident" during the Friendly Cup, the whole team seems to just be going through the motions, as was apparent during our horrendous showing at the Campionato Esportiva. I can only hope that my men will bring the same intensity tonight that they did on matchday one. That first night was one I will never forget; the goals were plentiful, and the crowd was electric. In my opinion, there is not much more a footballer can ask for. Last night, however, was almost the polar opposite: the crown was static, and it seemed a constant struggle just to score a single goal. I have been blessed with an extraordinary gift; the ability to play football. To me,football is more than a sport; it is an art form. It is a way to express my true emotions. To escape the war and the depression; to be free. In 27 short years, I have represented my country 12 times, been named Most Outsanding Player 9 years, and win many championships. However, I am still one goal short of my dream. There is still one benchmark that I have yet to cross of, one check box that has not yet been checked:

To win a World Cup.

It is, after all, a kind
Of music, an elaborating of themes
That swell and subside, which
In the converting of open spaces
Take on a clean edge.
A throw, a chip,
A flick, from Samir to Hasan,
To Emile, to Cevdet, to me -
The diagonals cross, green space is charmed

A precise moment, balletic in ordained
Agility, with the players as if magnetised
Moving intoplaces seemingly allotted them
- They seem from above to be pushed like counters
And only the fluffed pass, the momentary
Crudity disconcerting as a clerical oath,
Destroys the illusion. A goal restores it.

Arms raised like gladiators, we embrace.
Human emotions swamp us, childishly even
For such protagonists of perfection.
- And involved in this mixture
Of the fallible and the dreamy,
The percussive and the lilting, we demonstrate
How art exists on many levels, spirit
And matter close-knit as strangling lianas.

-Andrew Wirahadi

"Buon giorno, signore Gaspari. And might I add what a stunning victory that was. I don't think anyone in the group expected us to win by such a margin."

"A historic 7-2 victory certainly gives us confidence going forward for the rest of the qualifying season. Sebastiani thrilled me once again and cemented why I chose him to be on this squad, scoring a hat trick in the first half. Orsino Rocca also scored in that time, essentially putting the match well out of reach for an Alphabet Letters comeback.

The second half of the match was a little more conservative, but with how wide open the net was on a couple of those goals, I would have been surprised had my players not taken advantage of it. Francis Buffone, Tonio Anselmi, and Tino Uggeri all impressed by adding to the lead. The defense had become tired late the match, leading to those two conceded goals within 4 minutes of each other. I was upset, but I didn't let it get to me all that much since we had the match in hand. I'll be addressing that fitness issue with my players."

"And because of the goal difference, we are now top of the group. But the team can't rest on their laurels just yet, with this only being the second match of the qualifying."

"Oh, of course. The team know they can't stop now. There are way too many matches left to just shut it down, and the players will be training hard and performing hard on the pitch to try for that Finals berth."

"Signore Gaspari, I asked last time if you had a good idea what your ideal starting eleven is for this qualifying campaign. After seeing the superb performance yesterday, do you agree that this should be your selection of choice for the time being?"

"Everyone will get their shot at the starting squad, but for right now, I am happy with who is out there. And with that, I thank you all for coming out. No more questions at this time, and I hope to see you all after the Geisenfried match, possibly in as happy a mood as we are now. Take care."

Powersith Falls to Hutt River 3-1

The Powersith National Team experienced their first loss after match day two. They would lose to a powerhouse Hutt River 3-1. The game would remain exciting, as both nations would have chances, but fail to capitalize. However, Hutt River would capitalize more as they would score three goals.

The players would walk onto the pitch, and the national anthems would be sung. Powersith would kick off. However, Hutt River would strike first, as in the 27th minute, Max Shroeder would score. Then, in the 41st minute, John Klaus would score. At halftime the score was Hutt River 2 Powersith 0.

In the 2nd half it all seemed as if it would be a repeat of the last game versus Barunia. Patrick Monroe, off a pass from Leonardo Martinex, would kick in a goal to make it 2-1 in the 52nd minute. But, Hutt River would give the dagger as they would score in the 62nd minute.

The game wasn't all clean however, as Max Fink, would recieve a Red Card, after viciously sliding into Gerry Sweeny, injuring him.

Post Game Interview
Interview with William Thomasson

Q: With the loss, what do you have to improve?
A: Obviously our defense. We shouldn't be letting in all these goals, its unbelieveable. I mean we've let in 5 goals in only 2 matches! I mean we have to fix this.

Q: With the injury of Gerry Sweeny, what's going to happen?
A: Well, Gerry Sweeny recieved a bad ankle injury. The doctors say he might be out for five to six matches. We have found our replacement, as Taylor Mcawellmen will start in place of Sweeny.
***
Interview with Patrick Monroe

Q: WIth Sweeny out, how are you and the rest of the team going to play?
A: We play like we normally do, there won't be any difference. We have to adjust. We will stick to the game plan.

Q: After losing the match and now falling into 6th place in the standings, is there any urgency?
A: Somewhat, I mean, look who doesn't want to be in 6th? We want toe qualify into the World Cup, not place in 6th again. We have to play like its an elimination match.
***

Interview with Taylor Mcawellmen

Q: How do you feel for starting the next game?
A: Good, its like a dream come true.

Q: William Thomasson said that Sweeny will be out five to six matches, are you confident in anyway?
A: I have to be, Its going to be awhile before he comes back.

Reporting from Hutt River,

The Powersith National Team was on the team plane waiting to take off. Everyone was in a sour mood after the loss to Hutt River. Manager William Thommasson, and captains Leonardo Martinex and David de Phillips were going over strategies for their next game versus Republic of Egpty at home. Everyone else was either sleeping, playing cards, or talking.

Taylor Mcawellmen sat in his chair in the back. He was alone. Taylor never really had friends, he had always been an outcast. He also wasn't good at speaking in public as people saw from the interview he just had. He had a love for football (his home state called it that instead of soccer unlike most states). He also liked school. His parents told him that school is just as important as soccer. He had recently graduated from college earning a 3.9 GPA, and a degree in Health Sciences. He had forgotten everything about his past when he was called up to the National Team for World Cup 63. But when he didn't get any playing time, his memories haunted him.

High School, the four years of hell for him. No one really cared for him, even though he was on the football team. He had no friends, no one really talked to him. All four years he would be rejected to homecoming and prom everytime he asked his crush. He did earn a scholarship to play for Sacred Cross University. However, that scholarship was removed after a game in which his own teammate would injure him in the knee. He hasn't played since. Until Senior year in college, playing for Imperial Capital City Community College, where William Thomasson discovered him, and how he got on this team.

William was finished talking strategy with his captains and he walked up to Taylor.

"You ready to start the next game at home?"
"Yes, sir."
"Good, now play your heart out."
"I will."

William left to attend to security and how they were doing. Under his breath, Mcawellmen said,

"Time to prove to my haters, and the kids in high school that were assholes to me, that they were wrong, and I'm having a better life then they are.

And with a second win of the Republic of Egpyt the Knights have moved to 2nd place tied for first at the top with 6 points. After an opening game victory over Karditan which was followed with yet another grueling defensive victory over the team from the aforementioned place. Now they move on to try to pass Hutt River who "lead" the group with more goals scored with a more highly offensive gameplay by their national team. The Knights meanwhile continue on from a qualifying season ago in which they made it 9 games before allowing a goal in their first loss last season, the big betters in Qazox are really throwing up the odds of each team being the first to score against the Knights this year, and whether that team beats the Knights, many predict it will be well before the halfway point this year as last season was a majestic run.

Now as to these last two games. In the first one Ender Wiggin got the scoring off to a great start with a free kick goal in the 18th minute. The Knights continued to press on both sides of the ball and eventually a second goal was scored just before halftime by the second striker Brian Ibrahim. The second half proved to be a 0-0 draw in which neither team really did much of anything. In game two the scoring was started once again by Ender Wiggin, scoring at the half hour mark. The second goal would take longer in coming as substitute Aaron Conrad scored the second goal late in the affair in the 80th minute.

Focus On: Sven Vidal- Forward

[Last Winter]

Sven exhaled sharply, the cold air tasted as sharp as ever. His breath swirled around him as the warm air was quickly cooled by the freezing temperature. Sven's legs continued to pump steadily as he reflected back onto how he gotten into this situation in the first place. Captain Kardell had insisted on a 6am run through the streets, even in 15 degree weather. He imaged his captain's words even now, as vivid as they were an hour ago, "When we get to the World Cup we're going to be playing in all kinds of strange conditions. Several of these countries have much harsher climates than Mycellena and we'd better be prepared for whatever the weather has to offer."

Sven smiled weakly. Kardell's insistence on training more had only intensified since the Baptism of Fire. After seeing firsthand the type of competition that they would face on the international stage, Sven silently agreed with Kardell's assessment. Only three goals scored in the entire tournament Sven thought darkly. Miles scored as many in a single game. Where was Miles now? Sven glanced back at the players behind him. Not here certainly. The self-styled prince would of course have better things to do than run through the freezing cold. Gritting his teeth, Sven spat a silent curse at Miles. Everything about the man seemed to run completely counter to what a good teammate should be. On the other hand, he was without a doubt the best forward in Mycellena. Not for long, Sven thought. I'll show them all by the time we get to the World Cup. I'll show them that Mycellena has two ace forwards.

Even as the cold air filled his lungs, Sven increased his speed. He wasn't an endurance runner by nature, being more suited to sprinting on the soccer field. However, he refused to wind up like he had in Mycellena's loss to Saintland- doubled over gasping for breath on the soccer field after the first half. He'd spent the majority of the second half on the bench cheering for his replacement, to no avail. This time it'll be different, Sven thought. I'll conquer my lack of stamina before the World Cup begins. I swear it. Sven's increased speed soon brought him alongside Kardell at the head of the running group. The captain didn't even look to acknowledge his presence, so focused was he on the exercise. Only when Sven tried to start a conversation did Kardell look over to him. "Seriously, practice in this weather? We training for the south pole or something?"

"If you've got enough energy to run your mouth, perhaps you're not working hard enough. Maybe you'd like to wear the weights during today's practice game?" Kardell replied tersely. The weights were one of Kardell's favorite punishments. They may have weighed only two pounds each, but when you were forced to wear them on your ankles for an entire game the sure as anything felt like twenty. For especially harsh punishments, double weights were often assigned. And for that time when Alabaster Florent missed practice for an entire week because of some girl- triple weights. The memory of Alabaster's face at the announcement was imprinted enough in the minds of each of the starters to never pull one of those again.

Despite the threat of the weights, Sven forced a smile. "Those pitiful things? Give them to me now and I'll show you the power of my legs." Sven was taken aback when Kardell paused briefly before stopping. Bending over, he lifted the legs of his sweatpants- revealing the two sets of weights currently strapped there. Taking one set of them off, he tossed them to Sven before resuming running at an accelerated pace. Wordlessly, Sven shook his head. The captain would work himself to an early grave no doubt. Then again, he'd likely enjoy every minute of it. Sven grinned at that and strapped on the weights.

[VS Wittenbach]

Sven tore down the field at the 18 minute mark. He'd be the first one to score a goal this game, he could feel it. Receiving the pass from Kardell, he gave a wide smile. This one's all mine, he thought to himself. He sidestepped left around the midfielder close behind him, then with a burst of speed completely bypassed the intervening Wittenbach defender. "Get In!" he shouted as he shot for the goal. The goalie leaped into the air as Sven held his breath, and his hands went wide by a mere inch. "Yes! Yes!" Sven pumped his fist twice in celebration, before racing over to Kardell for a high-five. Followed by the rest of the midfielders. And then the entire rest of the team. By the time the game resumed, Sven was grinning from ear to ear. Even Miles had grudgingly given him a high five. Their rivalry made have been entirely one-sided, but that didn't mean that Sven couldn't feel happy about winning this round of it.

By the end of the half, Miles had answered Sven's initial score with two of his own. During the break, Jeremiah Drake walked over to Sven. Clapping the forward on the back, Drake flashed a brief smile. "You've done well this half. I've barely had anything to do all game thanks to your aggression on offense." Pounding his fist into his palm, Drake's eyes narrowed. "Don't give them any rest. Winning decisively here is crucial towards winning our division." With those few words, the goalkeeper walked away to speak with Miles.

Sven obliged Drake's orders perfectly, managing another goal to bring him even with Miles for the game. The 5th Mycellena goal was finally scored in the last 10 minutes by Kardell. Receiving the pass from the now-satisfied Sven, Kardell closed the distance to the goal quickly and fired a lightning fast shot towards the upper-left corner, leaving the goalie shaking his head afterwards. As cheers erupted from the Mycellena stands, Sven gave Kardell a wide hug. "Doesn't look much like the south pole to me" Sven joked.

[VS Tobys Great Britain]

Though Mycellena had crushed Wittenbach easily, Tobys Great Britain would prove to be a far more formidable foe. By the end of the half, the score was still locked at 0-0. Tight defense on both sides had prevented many shots from being taken at all. Once again, Drake was speaking to players individually. When he came over to Sven, his advice was brief. "Their keeper Gordon Banks favors his left side. Throw him for a loop and make your approach from the right." As Drake walked away, Sven wondered for the umpteenth time how he managed to get this type of information. Then, as usual, simply gave thanks that Drake was on their side and not someone else's.

As the second half resumed, the Mycellena defense was quickly put to the test by an encouraged offense. Not-so-patiently biding his time, Sven kept an eye on the ball, lurking near the left side of the field. Then his moment came. Marissa Golden, in a aggressive slide stole the ball from forward Jimmy Greaves. Taking a quick glace around the field, Marissa booted the ball nearly halfway the length of the stadium, aiming for Sven.

Knowing that had had to act quickly, Sven launched into motion. First, heading the ball away from an opposing midfielder. Then a sweep to the right to isolate another pursuer. Only one defender left and then the goal he thought. Letting out a wild shout, Sven opted simply to rush straight ahead past the last defender, pulling past him with some quick footwork. And then there was just the keeper. With as much strength as he could muster, Sven booted the ball towards the upper-right hand corner of the net. The tension rose to a fever pitch as the keeper reached out an arm just a fraction of a second too late.

Then everyone was shouting all at once. Thunderhawk fans all over the stadium jumped to their feet and the players on the field were yelling with either happiness or dismay. We can do this, Sven thought for the first time as his teammates rushed him with congratulations. We might actually be able to qualify for the World Cup.

Guerrilla attacks across Mytannion by MB.
FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 2016 | FOOTBALL | by Tamila Panova

Image
The Mytanar Befreiungsarmee caused havoc in various cities across Mytannion, government yet to respond.

The Mytanar Befreiungsarmee made guerrilla attacks across Mytannion, especially in northern cities where they have more support from the general population, but also in the capital, Miago and Prizren. The Befreiungsarmee have called the current system in Mytannion 'unacceptable' and claim to be fighting against 'heinous violations of human rights' as workers across the country continue to be exploited by the capitalist dictatorship that took control of the country seven years ago, when unfavourable economic conditions led to a military coup which has caused the general population to live in a state controlled by the army for nigh-on a decade.

It is reported that 300 people lost their lives in Esca as the bombing of government buildings caused death and destruction all-around, with high ranking figures such as the Minister of the Interior, Sophie Sommer and Minister of Defence, Edvard Filemonsen having sustained injuries - being rushed to hospitals around Esca and reportedly both being 'close to death at times', according to a government spokesman. Premier Natella Kalinina, who organised the military coup seven years ago (surprising in itself given there were very few females at that time in high ranking positions in the military), said that the attacks and their perpetrators would be dealt with in 'the harshest manner possible.'

"We simply cannot allow this continue, endangering lives of ordinary people around our nation, we cannot allow attacks on this government either - which has secured a future for Mytannion, keeping our motherland safe from the outside influences which seek to bring it down from within. We must eradicate this threat that has emerged, supported by foreigners, as soon as we possibly can." She said in a statement on live televsion that was broadcast around the country and to the rest of Rushmore.

Attacks in Thessia recorded the worst results, as the known fascist neighbourhood of Metalnya (home to football club, Metalist Thessia and their stadium which was targeted), was attacked. 700 people dying from the attacks. It is questionable whether these tactics are deemed acceptable in this day and age as they result in so many deaths, some being genuinely innocent people, but which side should the world support here? We cannot know until more emerges about this ongoing conflict in future days.

What is known, in reports coming from people that have fled Mytannion during the past six months, is that the current regime are not treating people in the nation as well as they probably should be - or as they'd have everyone on the outside think. Salambek Sultanovich, a 25 year old, who had studied teaching before having to flee told us, "The government often staged public beatings of people who disagreed with any of their policies or their 'history'." When Salambek was pushed for what this 'history' meant he told us of a government that had almost re-designed the past to suit their side of the story, suited their policies.

"They basically blamed the past, the left-wing political parties for all our nation's shortcomings, said that they made us weak because no one group could make decisions. They told people that freedom was a bad thing and nobody truly had a right to vote in elections." He said, "When people spoke out, they were taken and classed as insane, some were locked up in mental institutions, others were just beaten to a pulp, some were tortured." One such victim of torture was reportedly Salambek's father, although AP have no factual evidence of this other than his son's word on the matter.

If there is truly torture being practiced in Mytannion, then that is a casus belli for outside influences to become involved and try and depose of the current regime. AP has 'evidence' that the Befreiungsarmee has support from the FSSO. The intelligence suggests some have been trained by Euran special operations units, although this is yet to be backed-up.

Of course, the current regime has sympathisers in Sameba, among other places and is in just as good a position as the rebels are at the moment - the rebels could face harsh punishment as suggested by Mr. Sultanovich, whether these attacks continue and gather momentum remains to be seen. If they do, it could be yet another conflict in Mytannion, a nation which is unstable enough when it has a democratic government due to the ethnic tensions which continue to cause problems around the country.

Being as unstable as it is currently could cause a break-up of a state on a scale that has never been seen before, with separatist movements having had weight before the current regime came to power (in Thessia, Nasto, Magev Island and the border regions), this could genuinely cause a break-up of Mytannion into maybe four, five or six new states. This would be completely unprecedented and could cause even more tension in a region which is historically unstable.

More to come in the next few days.

TWO WONDERS OF VALLADAR FOOTBALL

Fontvielle Impact duo lead Valladares to their first victory in WC qualifiers

By: Alan Rosero

WARKUS (VP) - Welcome to another entry of your favourite sporting website in Valladares, the National Kickoff, this time covering the Valladar national football team in their quest to qualify for World Cup 64. After the disappointing start to this qualifying campaign with a 2-2 draw at the National Stadium against Altiplane, Les Gones managed to bounce back and propelled by the talent of Yoan Gignac and Jean-Pierre de Roux, defeated Warkus 3-1.

By experimenting, even Eurans can learn

The Euran coach Dimitri Campbell had received a lot of flak in the aftermath of the Valladar draw against Altiplane. Certainly, it was an unexpected result, but it was possible because of the "small" mistakes committed by the coach and his clouded judgement after the Valladars dropped a 2-0 advantage. Because of this, the match in Warkus became a "must-win" one, especially after wins from Darmen, Farfadillis, 19th Century Beards, and Birolika earlier in the day.

As for the match, Campbell decided to "experiment" with the starting lineup, specifically with the midfield, by pulling McAllister back and leaving Reyes as the only offensive midfielder, for a 3-3-1-3 formation. A priori, it was a slight variation to our usual formation which made us think Campbell wanted the team to be a bit more defensive, but the actual effects of this would be seen with the team on the pitch.

And yes, this time we saw less vertigo and more pause, but "Les Gones" always controlled the game, with Gignac and de Roux being the most dangerous men in front. Meanwhile, the home team tried to take away the ball from the Valladar players but were always unable to get past our midfield. And, just when we were thinking the first half was doomed to finish nil-nil, Pedro Pedretti started a demolishing counterattack through the right wing, crossing the ball to Gignac, who only had to head it onto the Warkus goal for the first goal of the night, after 43 minutes. Valladares had the upper hand now, and the mission now was keeping the advantage.

The second half was played with the same tonic as the first one, Valladares going for the second goal in order to wrap up the match, while Warkus still looked like the same passive team that took the field at the start of the match, and this allowed Les Gones to punish their rivals twice more, with Jean-Pierre de Roux took advantage of a defensive mistake by a Warkus defender to notch his first goal of the night in the 65th minute, and then 10 minutes later scoring the third for the Valladars in a penalty originated from a handball by another defender. However, the home team found a consolation goal in one of the few blinkings of the Valladar defense (Warkus' goal was thanks to a corner kick and a header: beware aerial game and set pieces for next time!).

The thing is: we won, we're back in contention, but we've got to start turning our stadium into a fortress. 19th Century Beards are our next rivals and we can't afford to give up more points at home if we don't want to suffer later on in this qualifiers. The goal is qualifying in first and fast, obviously...

Drop of Poison: The VFA is considering not allocating tickets for matches in Valladares to away fans during this qualification stage. Some people say this is due to the "losses" generated for the match against Altiplane (liars, there was sellout!) and some say this is just to avoid clashes between fans and tourists later on when the other "big guns" of the group come and visit us. Either way, the Valladar fans win (and the scalpers, too...).

Cameras pan to three men sitting on an oval desk with. On the right is the Soccer Analysis Joe Brown. In the middle is a young dashing Soccer Informat Chad Dylan and on the Right is Ex-Coach of Chymala FC Steve White.

Mr. White: Hi and welcome to the Gol! Perinpanland! The soccer program as part of the Perinpan Sports Network. Perinpanland had found themselves back to their old routine against the mysterious Secuelas team.

Mr. Dylan: That is right. It seems that while our coaching staff were going to figure out how Secuelas plays through their previous games...all of the video had disappeared from existence. What could have possibly happened?

Mr. Brown: Well you know what they say; I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth. Umberto Eco

Mr. White:...

Mr. Dylan: ...

Mr. Brown: You people are so gaumless

Mr. White: -And with that we'll start the replay!

Mr Brown: Well this match ended pretty shakingly. Actually, no Secuelas fan was allowed to arrive and they had sent military planes there and back. The team hadn't handed out their roster and their names or number weren't on the jerseys either.

Mr. WHite: Let's see what happened:

0' Secuelas gets first ball.

5' Valenzuela Chas Morrison Lobs it high and Rayond Bradley!!!- Its offside. Pretty obvious.

8' Secuelas hasthe ball. Crosses it to outside forward. He rshes into the box...shoots...and it goes over.

14' On the other side. Morrison to Ignacio Cook who runs with it to his right. Taps it to Bradley who Shoots....and the Goalie taps it out wide. Quick corner quick and the opponents clears the ball.

54' Perinpan corner kick. Miximillien Mason Passes long and...it.... is captured by the goalie.

58' Arlen Wall Lobs the ball to the top left empty space. Right outside of the box. Bouncing ball. Passes to Cook right in front of the goalie. He taps it...Goalies fists it out of the net....and Rosario CharpentierFor the rebound!!!! It goes in!!!!!!!!!
Image
The goalie in deep dismay and Charpentier out of no where! He certainly is some sort of messiah. WHat a miracle!

72'Secuelas isn't even seeming to try at this game now. Either they've given up or they realize that all of their efforts are fruitless. Afterall...well look at this. Down the center midfield. Nicolas Worley Challenges him. Pass. Now its Wall who challenges them. Back to the original player. Worley intercepts and now we have control yet again.

90+2Since then players have become careless. Would've been a 0-2 score had Valenzuela not touch the ball. Overall we did good. 0-1 Stats are on their way!

Mr. Brown: Overall we did good in our home opener. However, THe Perinpan team have classified this as a loss throughout their press conference. Coach Martini doesn't look pleased. He stated that we should have annihilated them. They will continue to increase their training regiment and practice formation until perfection. Our next game is against Sprool and he wants a 3-0 win.

Mr. White: Well, you have to give it to him. He is determined. What we need to do now is boost our soccer senses and not get carried away after our first goal. Throughout the whole game they should treat it as a 0-0 game no matter what the score is

Mr. Dylan: That is true. Thankfully Gaspard Trotter is back from his injuries. Adriano Xavier is still suspended so he will not play in the next game. This will be our lineup against Sprool:

Report by Barry Norman

Good evening folks, I'm Barry Norman, here with your English World Cup Report, on Cameranian Public Television. The last two nights have been exciting for the Fightin' Commies, as they've gone without a loss in their first two matches, and leave us perched at number three in the group. Hopefully we can continue to have success, as our place right now is a temporary one, and our high standing a fragile one. The team squeaked out a victory against The United Kingdoms of Zackalantis, but it was a hard-fought one. Last night, at home, we managed to hold The Sylvanaes Queendomto an invigorating 4-4 draw. Tonight we face Antoletia on their home turf. It will likely be a heated match, as they are ranked number four, with the same record as us. Perhaps tonight we will solidify a lead over them. Be sure to stay tuned to KVT for more updates as things continue to thrill throughout the week. Also be sure to tune in early for the Cameranian reports, which preceed the English ones. Until next time, I’m Barry Norman, keeping you posted.

Hello!

I am naming Pyotr, and I am being moodelhoorn player for Sbrskj Krk Trkrj (or, as you are saying in your language, "Let Us All Rejoice in Harmonious Melodies of Glorious Motherland").

Some are asking me, 'Pytor, how is team feeling leaving Slobbodovania for first time? How is team finding Yakostan?', and I am admitting that it was being difficult for team, and was being more difficult to beat this Yakostan than we had been thinking. 5-4! This is being surprise, no?

In telling truth, leaving beloved Slobbodavania was making whole team filled with shchkrch. How am I explaining shchkrch to those who are not speaking Slobbodovanian? Is not concept that being easy to translate to your language is. Is being concept dear to heart of Sbrskj Krk Trkrj. It is being, how you might be saying, feeling of vague unease, but also literal translation is being "awkward feeling when eldest son presents paternal grandmother with evening meal of brschtchsh, and grandmother then is realising daughter in law used incorrect ratio of turnip to beet". Yes, this is not easy feeling.

As skilled moodelhoorn player, it is pleasuring me that The Inevitable Syndicate are commissioning song from Sbrskj Krk Trkrj! It is being song of unique struggle of their land, struggle that is saddening us. We are performing it for you now...

The Inevitable Syndicate is land of constant struggle
That unites workers, and peasants, and oppressors alike.
It is terrible struggle, a struggle that we cannot imagine.
It has blighted their land, and made many weep.
The men must work harder, while women silently cry.

For they cannot grow beets in the Inevitable Syndicate!
Though their factories are mighty, they have caused changing of climate
And they cannot grow beets in the Inevitable Syndicate!
Much reliance they now place on renewable energy sources...
But is it too late?
Is it too late - too late, too late?

When people of Burgess and Hyford provinces go to labour in their fields
No beets can grow, though many beet seeds they will sow.
The people of the Inevitable Syndicate have ruined their once-great land.
By industrialising without fully empowering the oppressed workers
Who might have looked after the beet fields.

Perhaps they are overconfident as a nation.
The 3-2 loss to Mytannion shows they are not invincible.
But who are we to criticise?
Does not the rain fall red on Slobbodovania
Due to pollution from the beet steel factories?

And they cannot grow beets in the Inevitable Syndicate!
Though their factories are mighty, they have caused changing of climate
No, they cannot grow beets in the Inevitable Syndicate!
Much reliance they now place on renewable energy sources...
But is it too late?
Is it too late - too late, too late?

MVFA: Predictions and Speculations

Hello, fellow countrymen and patriots. This is Kalo Nupakani, your resident alternate-interpretation journalist. That's the title they give me because they're just too afraid to let me use my real name: The Truth Giver.

Alright, so let's look at our Vaian team's opponent, a nation by the name of Yesopalitha. Yeso is plaster, which I know because of my Spanish nanny Aricibela. No, Arabella. No, Anabe--- screw it. That woman. Pa means "and" in this weird language called Slovenian, which I know becuase my cleaning woman is Slovenian and she always complains about what she has to do. Lith is a suffix that means stone, but frankly that's stupid. If it's a stone, call it a goddamned stone. So already we've got a grammar element that's messed up.

Now, plaster and stone both have a component called gypsum, a mineral that's used for a couple purposes and I think hides the secrets of this country's true intentions.

Gypsum sounds an awful lot like gypsy, doesn't it? Well there's a reason for that. Gypsies get their magical powers from gypsum. Therefore, this country exults the magic of gypsies and supports their motives. First of all, let me tell you about gypsies. They're a traveling band of nomads that settle wherever they please. Doesn't matter if someone else owns it, they just settle there. This is completely disrespectful and irresponsible, but it has foreboding of later times. Now they're "just staying for a couple days," but tomorrow they're there permanently and forever in our country. They are invading our dear fatherland and disgracing our sacred soil with their filthy unwashed passions and ways. Yesopalitha is a nation set up merely to advance the gypsy cause and seeks world domination!!!

Gypsum is also an element that is used in fertilizer. Fertilizer, for those of you who do not know, is a common component in many low-class bombs and explosive devices used for KILLING CHILDREN!!! Yesopalitha is advocating the building of these horrible weapons which will destroy our progeny, desecrate our land, and eliminate our freedom. Yesopalitha is no more than a pro-gypsy gigantic weapons conglomerate that seeks to destroy the world with fertilizer bombs. Be warned, NationStates, Yesopalitha will come to your house and kill you and your family and take over this country and all the countries until it is only their gypsy communist agenda that rules. FIGHT AGAINST THEM!!!

The views expressed in this piece are solely those of Kalo Nupakani, and are not representative of the Maklohi Vai Football Association.

"We drew, Jyvx."

"That's right, Aaron. It's quite a good result, as our opponents are ranked higher than us."

"What was the score?"

"We drew 0-0."

"With who?"

"Pasarga. They're 26th in the KPB rankings, 59 places higher than us."

"Wow...that's quite a good result, then."

"True dat."

"We're going the right way if we want to get the nightmares of our last qualifying campaign out of our heads."

And yet another, and another, and another.. GOAL!

The team was in shock. What should have been an easy draw for the valiant nation of Alexanderburn turned out to be one of their worst defeats in history. The team fell last night to Ancharmunn 4-1 in the second away game of the qualifiers, and frankly, this does not look like good news for the team.

"After last night's monstrosity of a match, we do not expect to play the same line-up for a while. Those who were slacking off will be held responsible for their actions, and those who gave it their all will be rewarded," noted head coach William Kingsley.

The match stats go as follows:
1:0 - Rory Flanigan - 4'
2:0 - Rory Flanigan - 30'
2:1 - Marcel Schroeder - 43'
3:1 - Shaun Donnelly - 87'
4:1 - Éamon Ó Cléirigh - 90+2'

"It's these d--n good, twenty-something year old bast--ds that are scoring against us, and frankly I've had enough of this bulls--t" noted one angry fan on public television. "We really need to be getting the good youth in instead of recruiting crappy 19 year olds and playing the worn out 35 year olds. This is complete f--kery!" Assistant coach Matthiassen did not have the same pessimistic attitude.

"It really is all subjective. These [Alexanderburnese] youth can shine when they work together with a mix of veterans and newcomers, and tonight I will review a new plan with [coach] William in order to best harness their abilities," he noted.

Meanwhile, fans across the nation are still in a confused state, and between the radical conservative reforms that have recently been passed and the recent mass shooting in suburban Baychester, many citizens are pushing their frustration to the ANFT. In fact, hate messages against captain Marcel Schroeder have began to pop up all over the internet despite the fact that he scored the only goal for the Alexanderburnese team during the match.

"Yeah, he might have scored this one time," noted former fanatic Jonas Hugellinson, "but he still has yet to unify the team, and in fact, he hasn't done so in any of the World Cups. If it were up to me, I would bench him for a while. Didn't that work in the last World Cup?" Meanwhile, the official line-up for tonight's match against Runimia has yet to be revealed, but sources have claimed that the following eleven are likely to play in the Windermere Arena in Suffolk Hills/Windermere.

STARTING LINE-UP (Alexanderburn vs. Runimia)

-------------------- Massie ---- Cremonesi -------------------
------ Frederiksen -------- Schroeder -------- Austerlitz ------
-------------------- Holierhoek --------- Collett -------------------

--------- Doyle ------- Rittenhouse ------- Ebersberger ---------
----------------------------- Nordaglio ------------------------------

It was somewhat ironic that the Eilifint Bhán National Stadium felt like home now. Previously the venue had been derided as overly large and lacking in both atmosphere and any semblance of homeliness for Charmunnry football. Breaks did funny things however and now with World Cup final back on Ancharmunn's soil after an absence from the previous tournament the National Stadium had been rocking. It had also been packed, truly packed perhaps for the first time, at least for an Ancharmunn World Cup qualifier.

This was home now, Ancharmunn were home and where they belonged, not just in the National Stadium, but also back in the World Cup. The early stages of the megalith tournament at least. Typically, Alexanderburn probably wouldn't have set the pulses racing, indeed a comprehensive 4-1 win showed that even after a break Ancharmunn were a class above their guests. However, for all that they were no Audioslavia or one of the glamour names of world football they were a country participating in the World Cup qualifiers, they were World Cup opponents. Competing against Ancharmunn.

The split, the two rival associations claiming to run the Charmunnry game, and for a while both representing Ancharmunn in international football may not have lasted all that long. The actual ban on either side representing Ancharmunn until a solution was found was even shorter, and yet many had wondered whether World Cup football would ever be seen on the shores of Ancharmunn again. When word hit the street that the two associations had come to an agreement and Ancharmunn would compete in World Cup 64 excitement across the country peaked. World Cup football, proper international football, was coming back to Ancharmunn. That the fixture computer would put Ancharmunn's return as an away game only heightened the anticipation levels for the first home qualifier. Tickets when they'd finally gone on sale were sold out in record time.

There was no doubt that there would be rocky patches along the road, that much was clear from the joint press conference between the two warring factions, the National Soccer Board and Cumann Sacair an Tearmann. An undercurrent of unease ran through the whole event and the handshake for the cameras between the two chairmen of the associations had been a nervy one, and certainly not flattering to either side. It was safe to say that neither chairman would be framing a copy of the following mornings front pages for their mantelpiece.

Yet come the night of that first home qualifier and all was well in Ancharmunn. A five-nil win away in Romantique Belle Vie with Gethin Pryce getting a début hat-trick had gone a long way to easing any tensions that there were. A fourth minute goal from Rory Flanagan quickly sent the party up a notch, whilst a second from Flanagan after half and hour truly put Ancharmunn in the driving seat. Flanagan's involvement lived little longer however with his involvement for the tournament looking to be other after getting his boots stuck in the turf and suffering a nasty looking injury. A Marcel Schroeder goal for Alexanderburn shortly before half-time dampened the mood even further. Whilst Ancharmunn dominated proceedings in the second half they struggled to finish chances and it wasn't until a late flurry of goals from Shaun Donnelly and substitute Éamon Ó Cléirigh that Ancharmunn's quality showed on the scoreboard.

It was Ó Cléirigh's goal that put the win beyond doubt and as such got the biggest cheer of the night. The celebrations of that goal were what would prove to be the main memory of the night, though it wasn't Ó Cléirigh's exuberant leap into the crowd which would grave the front pages in the morning. Instead that honour would go to the impromptu embrace after Ó Cléirigh's goal between Malachy Hogan and Pierce Connolly, the two main power brokers at the CST and NSB respectively. If any picture confirmed that Ancharmunn was back that was it. Who knows, it might even be a picture to find it's way onto a couple of mantelpieces.
I'm not on the Greenwich Meridian so my time is a few seconds behind. Bear that in mind.

For Years they've Battled the World. Now they Battle Each Other.

The Vilitan League v. Cednia Beach

If there is one place that the 'fierceness' of the somewhat subdued rivalry between Vilita and Turori has persisted over the years, its on the shores of Cednia Beach.

Home to the most successful domestic club in Turorian history, Cednia Beach is also the birth place of none other than World Cup 20 championship clinching goal-scorer Tanner Nerni. Nerni was one of many dual-nationals who opted to play for the Jungle Cats in the early stages of international sport for both nations.

Domestically, however, Cednia Beach has always been 'Turori's Team'. Just like the Island Emirate itself, Cednia Beach were the 'little guys' fighting with the big Vilitan clubs - Marine Coast United, Yeaddin Owls and Strike FC. A founding member of the Vilitan Stellar Division, Cednia Beach fought tooth and nail with the 'big 3' for many seasons, finishing in the top 5 but always coming just short of breaking through, always leaving the Island Emirate on pins and needles to see if 'this' would be the year that their little club would upset the favorites and bring a domestic championship to the Island Emirate for the very first time.

For 16 Seasons, there was no one that could break the trio. Marine Coast United. Yeaddin Owls. Strike FC. 16 Seasons, 3 different champions. Then came season 17.

Just as on the national stage, the rivalry at that point between the 'big 3' Vilitan Clubs and 'Turori's Own' Cednia Beach was quite the big brother / little brother relationship. The big brother certainly didn't want little brother to stand him up, but wasn't too concerned about it actually happening either. Milauo Slietah changed that. The Turorian goalkeeper most famous for his improbable hattrick scored in competition on the international stage against Starblaydia, led Cednia Beach to their first Stellar Division title. Not only was it the first for Cednia Beach, for any Turorian side or for anyone other than the 'big 3', it also opened the door to a new era of competition in the Vilitan League.

Cednia Beach's triumph over the reigning champion Yeaddin Owls in the final league table for Season 17 would mark the last of Yeaddin's 12 Vilitan League titles to date. In fact, Cednia stuck a dagger through the heart of the 'Big 3' with their upset title run with neither the Yeaddin Owls or Marine Coast United ever returning to the top of the table since. A new era had begun. It was Turori's team - Cednia Beach FC against Vilita's team - Strike FC. And oh yes. that up-and coming side known as Arcticala Inlet.

Snapping a 16 season run of Yeaddin, Marine Coast and Strike victories only started a new run, of 14 seasons, where it would be Strike, Cednia Beach and Arcticala Inlet sharing the spotlight. Cednia Beach struggled initially to keep pace with their rivals after losing aging players such as Slietah to retirement. Meanwhile, 'by the boots of Banda' - The Electricians of Arcticala Inlet burst onto the scene to claim their first title in season 19 to challenge Strike FC for the top team in Vilita. Strike FC was having nothing of it, winning the next 5 championships before the gap....

...to be continued...

Life About Charles Garcia - Chapter 2 - 1st Grade (1989-1990)
Charles was just a normal kid who liked football more than everything else. His parents were Nicholas Garcia (1955-) of Laurentia FC and homemaker Mary Bauer (1956-). Charles lived in Elizabethville, Northridge, Englesberry, Lymantatia. In addition, he could speak English and Spanish fluently. And it was Monday, September 4, 1989, when it was Charles Garcia's first day in first grade. He had different teachers, except his Computers teacher was still Adela Lowe, who became the GOAL Group's homeroom teacher. The only teacher who liked him was Adela Lowe, who was still his friend. John Orville, Mary Albert and Jennifer Lawrence were still my best friends. I was fully able to use a computer with the CompuSoft OS proficiently, but his skills were more than that of a 12th grader. My afterschool activity was the Computer Club, which was run by Mrs. Lowe and me. It was my older brother's last year in elementary school. During the winter, my brother William was born. During summer, Charles Garcia played in a junior football team named "Elizabethville Junior United". Elizabethville Junior United was about to win their 101st. But we were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Whilst going through the other RPs, I stumbled on the one from Filopines and realised how much mine could be seen as a strange sequel for a spin-off of Friends, titled ‘the old folks home’. It wasn’t my intention, but I honestly have no idea yet which way my RP will go yet. Either way, for those of you who ain’t reading all (my) posts, a short recap about my six protagonists, located in the L-block of the Hochem Community Home for the Elderly.

Diane – Grandmother of Thorsten Ulfhem, player of our national team, and his biggest supporter. Warm and caring, but sensitive from time to time. Despite her fandom, she’s still not sure what the game is about. Her eyes ain’t what they used to be.
Heinz – Clever and even witty every once and a while. Usually is correct when he states something and the most healthy one of them. He could come away as a fresh sixty-something if it hadn’t been for his wheelchair. Knows a lot about football, sometimes too much.
Berthe – Seems to be blind and deaf from time to time, but nothing wrong with the vocals. She might appear to know everything better sometimes, but she has a good spirit and means well. Can’t tell a referee from a penguin.
Julius – Berthe’s husband. Enjoys silence despite being married to a chatterbox. Therefore, he does his utmost to keep his mouth shut. He hasn’t got any other chance with that woman. Enjoys watching the game, at least, when it’s quiet.
Georg – Lives by his motto ‘In the past, everything was better and I can know cause I was there.’ Firm believer of the ‘grandfather-knows-best’. His grumbling and moaning is a fence but only few know what’s behind that fence. Claims to have tactical knowledge on football.
Anne – Isn’t very aware anymore about what’s what and where’s where. Dementia has gotten to this proud and warm woman but that hasn’t made her less adorable.

“Twenty-five minutes.” Georg moaned. “Twenty-bloody-five minutes of pre-show. They could play the whole game during that time. Or at least, the amount of game our guys need to receive a proper shuffling.”
“There, there, don’t be so glum, Georg.”

As usual, it was Heinz who tried to raise the atmosphere. Whether it was to give some hope to his fellow residents or to show he was the alpha male around, was not sure. Either way, he continued with a lively voice.

“You can’t say it wasn’t informative. Really interesting to see how their frontline is formed by three brothers with the same name as our captain.”
“Oh no! Imagine our Joachim is a brother of them as well!” Berthe yelled.
“That ain’t possible,” Diane claimed, “according to Thorsten, Joachim is an orphan. But silent now, I want to know if Thorsten will play.”

Georg tried to grumble something along the lines of ‘if he plays like the last game, he shouldn’t play at all’, but was cut short by a well-timed poke by Julius. The voice from the commentator bellowed through the boxes of the television set on top of an old, oaken table.

”Next to us we have Dino Silvioni, assistant coach. Dino, are there any special things about our tactics for today?”
“Well Stavros, we’re going to have the usual names on the table, with one exception. Bernd Ebbehem is having some trouble with his heel, so he will be replaced by Ljuban Milanic today. We’re facing a 4-3-3 but will not change our tactic. Against Ko-oren it resulted in a good start, after the 0-1, they crawled back but we hope that there will be more space against the Wyverns.”
“Clear words from the tactical staff that show they want to focus on their own game, trying to grab a point here in Jedi2846 with their usual attacking football.”

“Recipe for disaster, if you ask me.”

Since no one had asked Georg, they watched the kick-off in silence. Chances on both sides were to be noted. A volley by Manny Hem crossed the furthest post by a few inches and a header by Sam Leon was tipped away under the crossbar by Predragic. On the other hand, we saw a fine kick by Jacob Martinkjaer and Axelson came alone in front of Triboult but couldn’t decide quick enough. It was the only time Adamson and Fell had left a bit of space for Sebastian Axelson.

“That Axelson ain’t good enough if they want to break the deadlock in this game,” Georg declared.
“He ain’t having his best day, but it’s an experienced side we’re facing. Fairly honest, I’m afraid Erichem is not going to do much better,” according to Heinz.

When the whistle for half-time was blown, Diane had sparks in her eyes.

“Imagine how marvellous it would be if they can keep this up! Our first point in the World Cup and with my Thorsten on the pitch.”
“First of all,” Georg got started, “this isn’t the World Cup. This is the qualifications and every collection of eleven horses, bears or numbers can participate in it. Secondly, with still forty-five minutes to go, I’m quite sure our boys can’t keep up the pace. And lastly, I’m not sure if Thorsten will still be there when they’re done with their tea.”
“I remember that we used to have tea every Saturday evening with my mother and grandmother in the nearest pub,” Anna sighed, “I would wear that blue ensemble.”

She stood up and stared through the window. No one really had a clue what that had been about, but it seemed better for Diane to take her hand and lead her to the kitchen.

“Let us make a nice cup of tea for all of us, Anna, that will give us some strength to support the guys during the second half.”

Anna muttered something like ‘what half?’ but it was silent until they had left the old-fashioned living room where our six were watching the game.

“It’s getting worse every day.” Georg stated.

Even Heinz had to agree that she was out of phase more often lately. It was a shame for such a hardworking woman. When Diane and Anna rejoined the scene, they had to give some bad news.

“I think they said Thorsten if off.” Berthe yelled.
“Why?” Diane panicked. “What did he do wrong?”
“Oh, don’t moan, you old woman,” Georg reacted.
“Not a problem, Diane. He is being replaced by Uli Hanshem, you know, that balding guy from FV Prollhirsch in order to give some more attacking vibes. A bit of a daring move, but it might turn out for the best,” Heinz hoped. He was met by disapproving laughter from Georg.
“They set themselves a death trap. As soon as they go all out in attack, those Hem brothers are going to eat them up.”

None of the others could chip in an argument that could counter this statement, especially not when during the 51th minute Fiona Dowell escaped the attention of her direct opponent, gave a deep pass in the back of our Lukas Maxhem and created the opportunity that caused Nicolas Hem to pierce the nets.

“Told you so.”

Each at his own level hated how Georg was proven correct. The Mooses themselves could not be bothered with the conflicts in the old folks home and tried to battle themselves back into it. Nonetheless, the passing never reached the needed level to alarm the Wyverns and every attempt to play the physical card was simply countered by their firm opponents. A free kick by Milan Bojanic was all that they had left to offer, but no use. For the second game in a row, Joachim Hem didn’t find his own pace and was brought off for Oleksandrenko with fifteen minutes to go. No use, as Manny Hem placed a second goal on the board seconds later.

“That’s it, I’m going to sleep. If it’s that kind of performance that the Mooses are going to show each game, we better switch to field hockey or korfball. If they ain’t grabbing something against those Democratic States of something, that’s the last time I’m watching our national team play.”

With those words, Georg made his way to bed. The others watched the final minutes, guided by the snoring from Berthe. Being a rather bulky woman, she sounded like a professional carpentry factory. The final quarter wasn’t the kind of material that would keep you up. After a harsh first half, Jedi2846 was glad they had proven their superiority in the previous half hour and didn’t feel the need to raise the numbers any further. Our guys were tired and apart from Oleksandrenko, no one was fresh enough to create something. His shot from twenty-five yards out went over the crossbar by meters and was a demonstration of the forcelessness of our Mooses in the deciding yards. It was Julius who closed the debates, with one of his glimpses of wisdom, which he gave away only seldom.

“They only get stronger from losing against such solid sides. Their time will come.”

He turned off the telly, wished the others a good night and woke up Berthe.

“Huh? What? So, when is this second half starting?”

Steel Magnate found dead at home

Reknowned local businessman and philanthropist Tarquihn Dultsabjr was found today dead at his home.

Tarquihn Dultsabjr's body was discovered by his housekeeper in the bathroom of his lavish estate near the industrial town of Zj.

Police have established the cause of death as drowning but are not treating the death as suspicious. It is believed that Mr. Dultsabjr, having consumed a large quantity of alcohol, slipped upon his bathroom floor and fell unconsiously, face-first into a bath he had just run himself.

Many friends have already posted online tributes to Mr. Dultsabjr on social media websites.

Miriam Dultsabjr (niece to the deceased) wrote on FaceSpace: "Can't believe this has happened. My uncle will be greatly missed by all those close to him. RIP Uncle Tarq."

Emanuel yawned as he climbed up to the deck, glad to see the sky was still dark.

"Ah, you're just in time," spoke a voice from behind, "we're almost to the drop-off point."

Emanuel turned to find the mob's leader, with a disappointing ray of light peaking over the horizon behind him. "Drat. We didn't make it before sunrise?"

"No, we didn't. Which means we can't sneak you into St-Simeon proper--that's the city you can see a ways down the coast. You're going to go aland right at the spot we're headin' to," he said while pointing towards the bow.

"What's that big, concrete building with barbed wire between the drop-off point and the city?"

The honcho looked at the large structure and stroked his chin. "Oh! That's one of those new-fangled 'superjails.'"

The career thief audibly gulped. "Is there any chance you could drop me off past the jail?"

"Hmm..." the honcho looked past the jail and continued to stroke his chin. "...no. In fact, we're at the drop-off point right now." With that, he grabbed Emanuel by the shoulders and heaved him overboard, then calling up to the cabinboy with orders to reverse their heading.

How Ponies Play: Hoofball

One of the most divisive controversies in Equestrian hoofball is pegasi players' use of their wings. Some argue that forcing a player to not use what they are naturally gifted with is discrimination. Others counter that simply because one has an advantage does not mean that it is right to use it. Both sides have numerous notable supporters, but the National Equestrian Sports Council's ruling on the matter has been one of compromise. Officially, pegasi on the Equestrian national team and in the domestic league are permitted to use their wings to boost speed, and to improve the height of initial jumps during heading situations, but pegasi are not allowed to use them for extended periods of time to actually fly.

In international hoofball, the impact that wings have on Equestrian strategy (particularly in corner kicks) is significant. The legal ability of pegasi to use their wings to boost jumps during the aerial battles for the ball after corner kicks makes scoring on headers a very real possibility. Against "the Monopoly" in the World Cup 64 qualifiers, the Equestrian States national team used this advantage to edge their opponent in a 6-4 slugfest.

As might have been expected, the Blue-Blacks’ visit to Nethertopia did not yield much success, as the Hyskiglandic national team lost 4-1 to the home squad.

Though the loss was a tough one, it was, in fact, only the fourth loss that the team has suffered in nine international fixtures—quite respectable for a newcomer on the international stage. The next two matches that the Blue-Blacks will play will be similarly difficult, though both will be played at home: the first against group favorites Mytannion, played at the home of Kapɨtal F.K., and the second against strong group contender Apox, played on Valkabʉrt F.K.’s pitch.

The match against Nethertopia, the one hundred and twenty-first ranked team in the world, progressed much as one might expect: at the halftime break, the home squad led 3-0, and the Blue-Blacks only scored their first goal—by Erɨk Fɨsk in the eightieth minute—when the game was well out of reach.

“It’s not easy to win on the road against a world-class team,” head coach Everett Lang concisely stated at a post-match press conference.

Hyskigland is currently third from last in the group table, but will look to move up later in the competition after facing a grueling schedule over the first few weeks.

A Note on Hyskiglandic Government (and Dating Systems)

For anyone ever looking to travel to Hyskigland, a basic knowledge of the nation’s culture would be invaluable. What follows is a brief description of the nation’s government—structure and terms.

Hyskigland’s government operates on a parliamentary system. Its legislature is called the Alþiŋ (Althing). The nation is divided into six states, five of which are further divided into forty electoral districts, while one, the capital state, is divided into fifty. Members of the legislature are known as Þāns (Thanes).

The leader of the political party or coalition which wins an election becomes the nation’s executive, or Statmɨnster. He then appoints an executive cabinet, or Vitāna, whose primary purpose is to develop new programs, or offer suggestions to the Alþiŋ. The Statmɨnster is also responsible for nominating members of the Hídonst, the nation’s supreme court, though they must be approved by the Alþiŋ before being seated.

The current ruling party is the Social Democratic Party, which has a plurality of seats in the Alþiŋ. It has been in power for twelve years. The current Statmɨnster is Ketɨl Toþsun, who has served since 1276 KE/1007 NKE.
