Welcome to the 84th Cup of Harmony! While we know this isn't the tournament where you wanted to end your campaign, you all have worked hard and played very well during the qualification campaign, some of you coming within inches of achieving your goal. This tournament seeks out the most active, consistent, and creative RPers not in the World Cup and gives them a few more chances to have fun, interact with each other, and perhaps come away with some hardware after all. Thank you for joining us, and let's get started!

Invitations

Invitations are now complete!

Rosters

For convenience and currentness, you are encouraged to post your roster to this thread; you are welcome to make any changes or adjustments that you see fit. If you accept your invitation by TG and do not post a new roster, the roster you posted for qualifying will be linked in this thread instead, and all information and RP permissions will be adopted for the purposes of roleplaying.

You may post a style modifier ranging from -5 (most defensive) to +5 (most attacking). Please display it clearly (at the beginning or at the end of the roster is best, and please do not put your style modifier inside a spoiler). You may change your style modifier once during the tournament by notifying both hosts.

Please include your RP permissions in your roster, whether from a standard template or by some other means. Please respect the RP permissions of your fellow roleplayers, and of your hosts while you are ICly in their territory. It is best to contact the user if you are unsure.

Format

There will be eight groups of five teams, for a total of 40 teams. They will play a single round-robin group stage, with the top two teams advancing to the Round of 16. Guide to Delaclava

Overview

Welcome to the United Republic of Delaclava! We are a large, diverse nation located in Sonnel, and we pride ourselves on education and scientific development, culture and music, a well-developed public transportation system, and active lifestyles with an emphasis on recreation and sport. Internationally, we are particularly notable for our book publishing and basket weaving industries; advanced education and research; high quality of living due to low tax rates, greater than average disposable income, and strong community and family structures; and vibrant music and nightlife from the larger cities to the smaller niches. In the sports world, one of Delaclava's greatest claims to fame is the National Athletic Complex, situated in Catherina, the former national capital and to this day an entertainment hotspot. The Complex has hosted a portion of every major championship that Delaclava has organized, across multiple sports.

If you've been to Delaclava before, things may look a little different from the last time you were here. We have relocated from southeast Atlantian Oceania to the planet of Sonnel. A recent statement from our President explains some of the mechanics of this terratranslation. In essence, your travel to Delaclava may have been a little bit different (you may have experienced some moderate to severe turbulence while attempting to get to Delaclava the old way, sorry about that!) but the way the Delaclav land has been folded up, your experience in Delaclava shouldn't be much different, apart from some mild jet lag and altitude sickness. We're working out the kinks now.

We possess a diverse group of locales around the vast geography - old cities to the south now distinguished as artistic and historical hubs; sparkling new metropoleis on the west coast noted for industry and commerce; and a variety of islands off the mainland, each with a different culture on offer. With the advanced public transportation systems available - monorails on the mainland and mass-transit speed boats to the islands - you should have plenty of time to explore not only the cities described below, but any other cities you see on the map (or aren't on the map yet!). Feel free to ask your tour guide (TG Delaclava) if you have any questions!

Catherina

This large, sparkling, opulent, real-life “city on a hill” could not be a more perfect national capital, both in physical geography and design. It is located in the center of the large "weird tent-like" mainland, on a massive and sprawling plateau adjacent to the Alexandria Mountains and surrounded by the “Three Rivers” - Alexandria, Ulysses, and Odysseus. In pre-isolation Delaclava, the city continued to grow and develop its infrastructure and culture, shaped by global exchange, and in its own right was representative of Delaclav culture and society to the rest of the world. During social and government reforms that took place in the isolation era, the people sought to perhaps find a new location as the Delaclav capital - but a better-suited locale simply did not exist. Thus, Catherina proudly remains the capital, outfitted with new ideals but retaining its usual splendor.

Group E, MD1 - Berrera Stadium (95,000)
Group E, Delaclava vs. Mertagne - Golden Phoenix Field (150,000)
Group F, Poafmersia vs. Audioslavia - Olympic Field (85,000)

Manchester

Manchester is to the modern United Republic what Catherina was to pre-isolation Delaclava: the largest and most populous city, the center of economic growth and technology, the heartbeat of mainstream culture, the flocking point for immigration, new beginnings, fresh ideas and innovations. Unlike the centrally located Catherina, Manchester is located on the east coast, occupying a sharply tapered peninsula penetrating the sea, pointing out towards Paripana and to the rest of the world. Fittingly for this competition, it also maintains an impressive sporting legacy - to name a few points, it is home to the St. James University Eagles, the most decorated athletic program of the past century; the new Pride of Manchester, the 110,000-seat stadium that recently opened and has hosted numerous World Cup qualification matches; and the Manchester Grass Court Championships, the most prestigious competition in the Delaclav national sport of tennis.

Group F, MD1 - Hamilton O'Connor Stadium (70,000)
Group G, Saint Eleanor vs. Delte - Pride of Manchester (110,000)

Quinniville

This old and historic west coast city seems to defy many conventions of large cities, particularly those of Delaclava. It is unassuming, quaint, lush and green. It is a metropolitan area of 3 million people where everyone knows their neighbors; it is a productive yet workers-first economy; the people never put on airs yet regularly demonstrate the best of Delaclava. Yet the more recent west-coast explosion in Delaclava, including even larger cities such as Santa Lourdes, Valeina, Crystal Lake, and Salem, are a natural outgrowth of the Quinniville foundation - bigger, faster-paced, younger and more modern, yet still humble and smiling. Quinniville was formerly a significant gateway to the rest of Atlantian Oceania, and it is a city that gladly evolves as it takes in migrants and cultural imports, while remaining fixed in its core identity.

Group E, MD4 - Virtuous Stadium (80,000)
Group H, Cardenao vs. The Jovannic - Virtuous Stadium

Athens

Athens is one of the hallmarks of what could be considered Old Delaclava, a seaside architectural marvel known for stone and marble houses and castles, well-preserved historical and government buildings, mountains and foothills, beaches and caves. The city of Athens has often enjoyed the privilege of hosting international sporting competitions due to its distinctive features, even as the population and economy sometimes dwindled. In recent times, it has enjoyed a certain revival thanks to the new influx of tourists, as well as an increase in concerts, golf courses, and tennis courts; Athens also serves as a gateway to Delaclava's major non-contiguous territories, Verceola and Firinsymnia. Competitors in Delaclava's three main sports - tennis, athletics, and cagefighting - as well as cycling have re-discovered Athens an an optimal headquarters for training, and in the basketball world, the emergence of BC Athens - the team of Djordje Zubić, Pekko Ranta, and Zachary Bates - has drawn renewed interest in the city.

Group E, MD2 - The Colosseum (66,000)
Group G, MD3 - The Colosseum

Santa Lourdes

The entertainment capital of Delaclava - and quite possibly the world - that, along with Manchester, is a true marker of modern Delaclava. It is one of the cities part of the western explosion in Delaclava, which put it in closer proximity to the rest of Atlantian Oceania, and in its own right is the third-largest city in the nation. For major film and music events, Santa Lourdes arguably contains more people at that moment than any other city. Apart from Baptism of Fire 72, Santa Lourdes has strugled to make any headway in hosting the international sporting competitions, but gets a chance to take part here. If the Surge and Stars can contain themselves in one of the clubbing and partying hotspots of the region and put on a show, the city will very likely be seeing more and more tourists flocking for the athletics.

Group G, MD4 - Froxx Field (25,000)

Corcorran

Corcorran was the first city of Delaclava - in fact, it still carries the "First City" moniker - as well as the country's first capital, and as Delaclava first grew its international presence, Corcorran was one of the most frequented Delaclav cities by tourists. Although still for many decades the second-most populous city after the founding and development of Catherina, Corcorran became somewhat of a big "ghost town" as citizens realised there were many other places in the nation to live. The isolation era of Delaclava facilitated somewhat of a revival for the First City, which first found its footing as a historical city notable for its distinctive stucco and brick architecture, to a once-again booming research city and tourist attraction. In recent times, it has also formed somewhat of a "supermetropolitan area" with the Olde Trapezoid that also includes Christiana, Cleopatrana, and Beliri, each a former major city that has come back as a cultural and economic centerpiece of south Delaclava.

Group G, MD1 - Pioneer Field (73,000)
Group H, MD4 - Pioneer Field

Novick

Novick, the capital of the province of the same name, is notable for its forestry and shipyards, as well as being a thriving financial and business center, a hub for insurance and banking, as well a historically pioneering city of Delaclav aviation. Culturally, Novick is most notable for its vibrant public art, and wide variety of museums including art and music, sports, natural history, and military and aviation history.

Group H, MD1 - The Skyliner (60,000)
Group F, Elmyia vs. Eraman - The Skyliner

Cleopatrana

Ask someone from outside Delaclava to name a city here. There's a good chance the most common answer won't be Catherina, it won't be Manchester - no, it might be Cleopatrana. In the sporting world, it's known as the home of now-frequent football league champions Cleopatrana SC, whose former stars now are playing all around the world in some of the best league systems, and who also hosts post-game "Rave Nights". It's also (in)famous for its dance and house music, warm weather, cosmetics and fashion, clubs and nightlife, and smut and "entertainment". It's already a popular destination first around Atlantian Oceania and now around Sonnel - throw in the revenue and exposure of an international tournament and you've got yourself a very fun time. The people have been clamoring for the city to host something, and the DFA and the censors have finally relented. Hide yo wife, hide yo kids...

Group G, MD2 - The Shipyard (45,000), Cleopatrana
Group E, Baggieland vs. West Barack and East Obama - Atlantis Casino Gardens (68,000)

Mariana

A quaint, upscale port city renowned for its beautiful sunsets, lush green fields, and sparkling beaches, Mariana also provides a gateway on the southeast coast between Delaclava and the rest of the world. The city also has an intimate and fascinating sporting history, as the Delaclav hub of numerous niche sports, including cricket and Babbage rules football.

Group F, MD4 - Babbage Grounds (52,000)
Group H, Brenecia vs. Kimi-Suomi - Babbage Grounds

Christiana

A coastal city that has tried to distance itself from the smutty image of Cleopatrana yet has failed to reach the refined status of Mariana, not too far down the road. However, it's undoubtedly a city with a lot of "character" as well as some stunning seaside views as well as opulent churches and cathedrals.

Group E, MD3 - Cathedral Square (73,000), Christiana

Beliri

Much like Delaclava's "First City" Corcorran, its "Second City" Beliri has experienced a resurgence in recent years, embracing the historic and cultural value of the city, particularly noted as an inland trading city, and for its war memorials and car-hostile roads and laws.

Group F, MD2 - Dimitar Catalon Battleground (70,000)

Brunswick

The capital of the remote island of Hess, Brunswick has often been prided as a remote vacation destination for the wealthy, but it's also a valuable government and economic center of an island that plays a key role in agriculture and trading. The DFA has frequently relied on this city in the past for its efficient infrastructure and enthusiastic fandom.

Group F, MD3 - Castle of Night (60,000)

Farland

A city on the northern coast (formerly the northern border) particularly noted as an inland suburban sprawl, a nexus of numerous major highways as well as for its higher-than-average violent crime rate.

Group G, Talannua vs. Sendhang - Black Forest (50,000)

Laurelum

A lush, tropical port city on a decent-sized island just across the strait from the southwestern coast of Delaclava, this is the place for you if you like pastel houses, pastel fashion, and pastelitos.

Group H, MD2 - Tigers Stadium (62,000)

Kitsuartat

Historically a college town that has enjoyed economic growth as a result of the constant influx of cash from 18-year-olds using their dad's credit cards for dollar beers and mid-range cologne. It's also traditionally more favorable to gridiron, enjoyed by big burly men in plaid flannels, so this tournament is a bit of a tester case to see if the DFA can access the nerdy twink market.

Group H, MD3 - Chiefs Stadium (30,000)

ABOUT CENI
Ceni is a small island country of around 5500 km2 located in the eastern parts of the Rushmori region of Terranea. Although it has no land borders, the nearest countries are Electrum, from which it is separated in the west by a narrow strait, and the Isles of Avon, a small republic located to the east in the same island chain. With a population of just over 13 million, this makes Ceni one of the densest countries in Rushmore, at around 2360 people per sq km. Ceni is also one of the most urbanized countries in Rushmore, with the three major cities, Cenial, the capital, City Centre, and New Oxford, forming one large urban agglomeration called the "Metropolitan Tetrad" in local parlance, with the city petering out around the edges of the metropolis. Climate-wise, Ceni has a temperate oceanic climate, with the influence of the ocean helping to moderate both the summers and the winters - temperatures are almost never extreme either way, cold or hot.

Historically, Ceni was first settled by a group of people, ancestors of the Fereldan, who spoke a language, Ancient Cenian, that survives in many Cenian names and which is related to modern day Avaerilonian (the prevailing theory suggests that these people migrated from an area in New Gelderland, across a land bridge to Ceni, and then across to Avaerilon, where they settled later in time). The name Ceni itself comes from a corruption of an Ancient Cenian word for 'White Cliffs', which described the cliffs near the present day Dover. These people stayed in the area around Cenial for a while until a group of settlers from Eura arrived and settled in the southern half of Ceni, displacing some of these populations. A Spanish population from Valladares arrived and set up a colony in the north of Ceni, hoping to set up a port for the growing nation, but when the city of Junin was settled, these settlers were disappointed, nonetheless deciding to stay and send seafood to the Valladar communities as well as lobbying the government to set up a port in the north. These communities formed the backbone of a thriving Hispanic population in Ceni.

In the face of a rising Euran threat, these various colonies - the Fereldic population, the Spanish in the North, and Euran/Cenian mix in the South - decided to unify their solitary island in order to coordinate their defenses and reduce infighting. As the Euran threat died down, the Cenian government retooled its economy to provide services and goods to the growing Euran industrial economy while still remaining a bit on edge. As the economy bloomed, a group of Avaerilonian refugees settled in Ceni after escaping one of that country's long wars, establishing a Cenian tradition. These refugees contributed to Ceni's rising high-tech and service economy as the country moved into the 21st century.

Ceni's government is a parliamentary system with a one-chambered parliament, the Cenian Assembly, which has 235 representatives in it; the Prime Minister is the head of government, while a ceremonial President is the head of state. More locally, Ceni is divided into 14 districts, which serve to administer most of the government's services to the people and giving them local control, with a Chief Minister heading the government in each district; most districts have a District Council of either 7 or 9 councilpersons, headed by the Chief Minister. The Cenian people love their elections, with more than 80% turnout most times. Economically, Ceni has a large financial sector along with large pharmaceutical, high-tech, education, real estate sectors, and renewable energy sector. Ceni has a large GDP due to its proximity to Eura and the Euran economy and also a large GDP per capita, one of the largest in the region. Cenians enjoy a high standard of living as well as a large social welfare net and free education, courtesy of a Scandinavian-style liberal government.

TRANSPORTATION AND OTHER PRACTICAL CONCERNS
Being a relatively small island nation, it is very easy to get around in Ceni. Most major hotels are close to and within walking distance of subway stations. In turn, the seven stadiums are very close to subway stations as well. City Centre and Cenial, where three of the four venues are located, are both located around Lake Cenial. Ferries transport passengers across the lake, and the same subway system connects City Centre and Cenial. A high-speed rail system connects Cenial with New Oxford and Whitehaven, which means that transport time out of Cenial (where most teams will choose to lodge) is very minimal. There aren't many cars in Ceni, and, with the subway system and the closeness of many major attractions, most of Ceni is very walkable, and pedestrians can get almost anywhere.

To get to Ceni, there are several options. Air Terranea, Ceni's major carrier, is based out of Cenial, and has links to many of the sporting world's premier nations, making it very easy to fly to Ceni. Cenial International Airport, located north of Lake Cenial, is the main gateway to Ceni, serving general aviation and most commercial flights. New Oxford also hosts a low-cost airport, but mostly the carriers operating out of New Oxford stick to Rushmori routes. Cenial City Airport is a convenient option for those traveling into the city center; it mainly serves regional business-oriented flights. Airports in Southpoint and Santiago mostly serve small private planes and general aviation, but they are less traveled and less conspicuous if your team wants a less... obvious entrance into Ceni. There are numerous ferry and commuter flight services linking Ceni with many Electrumite and Euran destinations.

CENIAL
Cenial is Ceni’s capital city; as such, the Cenian executive, legislative, and judicial branches are all located in Cenial. The Prime Minister has his home and offices here; office buildings for executive departments are also located in Cenial. The capitol building of Ceni, the meeting place for the Cenian Assembly, was recently redesigned and sits at the head of a park stretching to the President’s home. Judicially, the highest court in Ceni, the Supreme Court, meets here, as well as one of Ceni’s eight appellate courts. In elections, Cenial’s citizens are very active, with more than 85% turnout in national elections and 75% turnout in local elections.

Cenial attracts people from all over the region and the world with its world-class universities—the University of Ceni and the University of Cenial its two most prominent. The University of Ceni is renowned for its instruction in architecture, business, the humanities and history, politics, and law, while the University of Cenial focuses its academic investments in the science section. In fact, the University of Cenial is a leading research university in the fields of biotechnology and engineering.

A large part of Cenial consists of parks and greenery. One of the largest parks in the nation, Lake Cenial Park, stretches along the coast of Lake Cenial and provides opportunities for hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking, Frisbee golf, and just plain old fun with friends and family. In the spring, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, Lake Cenial Park is a very pretty sight, and its beautiful fountains are available year-round for all to enjoy. Another major park in Cenial is the Capitol Mall, a park stretching from the Capitol to the President’s House, with its memorial reflecting pool. Other green attractions in Cenial include the Japanese garden, in that section of the city, with its beautiful ponds, pagoda, and rock garden section for peaceful meditation, and the National Botanical Garden, with specimens from all over the world and exhibits of most major climates in the region. Not only is Cenial renowned for its green spaces, it is also renowned for its green attitude. Cenial is among the world’s leading cities in the proliferation of green technology, with a large number of buildings with energy saving measures. Many homes have solar panels, and the government has invested money into increasing the amount of renewable energy in the city; around 35% of the city’s electricity comes from renewable sources.

Cenial has a tolerant attitude and welcomes people from all over the world. As a result, Cenial has an incredibly diverse population. People from all over the world—from Asia, Africa, the Social Liberal Union, and all other regions of the world—have chosen to make Cenial their home. Because Cenial is very welcoming to all people, including refugees, Cenial supports a large population from Ciqi and Coconutstan, two countries ravaged by war. Because of its ethnic diversity, Cenial also has religious and language diversity. Hundreds of languages are spoken in different parts of Cenial, although English is mainly used in day-to-day communication. Religiously, no single religion makes up a majority of the population of Cenial. Atheism is the major religion in Cenial, with around 30% of people, although Christianity (almost equally split between Catholics and Protestants) (25%) and Islam (15%) both make up significant fractions of the population. Cenial has one of the world’s largest and most significant Chinatowns, while Little Saigon and Little Lyndainium are also significant ethnic enclaves. Ethnically, Cenians, Avaerilonians, Eurans, Electrumites, and Spanish make up a total of 75% of Cenial’s population, and there is a large diversity in the remaining 25%.

Cenial, as the cultural center of Ceni, is Ceni’s hub for performing arts. Cenial has the largest number of theatres, concert halls, and exhibition centers in all of Ceni. Cenial’s Royal Shakespearian Theatre Company is well renowned for its performances of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as other plays of Victorian English authors. Because of its diversity, Cenial has a large variety of ethnic restaurants of all kinds—from Westerheimian and Avaerilonian to Persian and Vietnamese, which are found mostly in ethnic sections of the city. Homemade Chinese noodles can be found in Chinatown, while Vietnamese culture is prevalent in Little Saigon. There are a number of excellent Avaerilonian restaurants in Little Lyndainium. Popular street foods in Cenial include Middle Eastern and Indian dishes. In the city centre, there are a large number of upscale restaurants catering to legislators, lobbyists, and richer tourists, while small cafes serving Cenian cuisine dot corner sides. Because of Ceni’s proximity to, and reliance on, the sea, Cenian cuisine places a large emphasis on fish and seafood. Popular Cenian dishes include Cenial Clam Chowder, widely regarded as one of the world’s best, various fish stews, and fish & chips. Other significant Cenian dishes contain crab, lobster, sea scallop, and cod. Alcoholic beverages are fairly common in Ceni, and there are a fair number of pubs, including some chain and local pubs. Cavalier Brewpubs and Machu Picchu Pubs, two famous chains, both originated out of Cenial. At night, a fair number of nightclubs serve alcoholic drinks and provide the citizen or tourist with the opportunity to party.

Cenial Halcyon National Stadium
Halcyon Park, Cenial
Image
The Cenial Halcyon National Stadium hosts most of the Cenian national team's home matches and has acquired a reputation as a bastion of the side, which has only lost one match in the stadium over 4 cycles. With a capacity of 85,000, the stadium has an unique roof which is retractable in case of inclement weather, preserving the optimal climate for spectators inside the stadium. The stadium also has won plaudits from national team players who say the stadium is one of the best grass pitches they have played on. Cenial United also hosts its home matches in this stadium. The stadium is currently the biggest in all of Ceni at this point and is fairly close to both of the major airports in Ceni, easily accessible by subway to those areas as well as most other areas of Cenial. It was built by the renowned Sky High Architecture (now Cityscapes Architecture) in a southern area of Cenial, near the sea.

When elected as the host of Baptism of Fire 63, the Cenian FA decided to upgrade some of the facilities at the stadium, including the press box and VIP box, as well as installing WiFi access for all seats, following the example of the Alexander I National Stadium. Notably in the history of the Cenial Halcyon Stadium, Ceni qualified for its first World Cup on the grounds of this pitch, defeating Gregoryisgodistan (now South Covello) on penalty kicks to qualify for its first ever World Cup. The Halcyon National Stadium counts itself as one of the greenest buildings in Ceni, making use of solar panels wherever possible, recycling water and heat through its system (so that water used to water the pitch can be used in the toilets, etc.), making use of recycled materials in constructions, and other eco-friendly measures to reduce its energy footprint.

Lake Cenial Stadium
Lake Cenial Park across from Millennium City, Cenial
Image
Lake Cenial Stadium is the home of Sporting Cenial, one of the many Cenial teams vying for spots in the increasingly competitive Terranean League East. This stadium also hosted matches during the 63rd Cup of Harmony. Located along the shores of its namesake, Lake Cenial, the Stadium is part of a larger sports complex, with tennis courts, which hosts the Cenial Masters every year, as well as facilities for badminton, squash, and other sports. In turn, the sports complex is located within a big park that surrounds Lake Cenial. In the spring its cherry trees delight visitors, but in all other times, there are still plenty of things to entertain visitors at the park, including gardens and an exquisite Japanese Garden. The stadium is also known for its green-friendly architecture, with solar panels covering a good portion of the exterior and, of course, the park surrounding it. It is also very friendly for bikers and pedestrians. Overall, the stadium seats 53,241 at full capacity.

Bicentennial Stadium
University Green, Cenial
Image

Designed especially for World Cup 76, the Bicentennial Stadium also was designed to celebrate Ceni's 200 years as a unified country, which managed to coincide with the World Cup. The stadium, which seats 75,000 people, is the epitome of modern stadium standards, with modern amenities and television screens along every corner. The stadium was designed with a modernist view in mind, with curving lines as well as interesting use of 3-D texture, and the seats inside being ergonomic and comfortable for viewers. The home of Phalanx AF, Bicentennial Stadium is located in the heart of the bustling city of Cenial, near the University Green and the location of several major Cenian universities, so the stadium is the favorite of many a college kid coming in to watch a game. The fact that this stadium could fit in the city center is a testament to Cenian urban engineers' prowess in getting the maximum out of every square meter of space.

CITY CENTRE
City Centre is Ceni's second city and home to 3.6 million people. The city does tend to vote extremely liberal in elections due to its economy, which used to be heavily dependent on chemical manufacturing; however, the city has now mostly switched to becoming a high-tech, green manufacturing center, and labs in City Centre have produced some of the most modern innovations in renewable power and energy efficiency technologies. Unions, unlike in other countries, are very strong here in City Centre. Besides its historic manufacturing, City Centre is notable for its libraries and literature, hosting some of Ceni's most famous authors. City Centre also boasts a thriving gay community. However City Centre is less culturally refined than many other cities in Ceni, such as New Oxford and Cenial. Nonetheless, it does boast its fair share of tourists, who come to visit the playhouses and aforementioned libraries. Like Cenial, it is located along Lake Cenial, and the two cities merge to form one big megalopolis; the city of New Oxford also abuts it to the south, forming a good portion of Ceni's urban population.

Volatus Millennium Stadium
Westbank, City Centre
Image
The Volatus Millenium Stadium is home to Ceni's (former) best club, Tir Snake Strike, and routinely draws its full capacity of just under 60,000. The stadium is known for its modern curves and structure designed with lots of glass and its 'high tech' appearance, earning the stadium its name of 'Millennium' - the stadium's design reminds people of a new era in stadium construction. The Millenium Stadium is very open to sunlight and has a great temperature when the conditions are just right. Nearby are the indoor tennis courts that host the Volatus Open, in the run-up to the Cenian Open. Again, the stadium is well-connected to public transport, but visitors coming from Cenial might have to spend a little bit of time getting to the stadium, perhaps half an hour away from the center of Cenial by subway.

NEW OXFORD
While it does have a population of around one million, which sounds small by international standards, it is concentrated in a small area, making it a very dense city. New Oxford is very ethnically diverse, even more so than Cenial, with large Asian, Electrumite, and Euran populations. New Oxford is most notable for hosting the third of Ceni's major universities, the University of New Oxford, which boasts a high quality educational program. In addition to its University, with its excellent sporting facilities, New Oxford hosts a number of museums and other educational institutions, as well as science and technology based industries within its soaring, modern skyline. Besides these attractions, New Oxford has a very active nightlife, with a large number of bars and nightclubs serving the student population, and the city is a hub of cocktails and experimentation with alcohol. As such, there are quite a few drunken ramblers out at night, although many students do stay sober.

New Oxford Coliseum
Coliseum Park, New Oxford [listed as Olympic Park on map]
Image
New Oxford's major team, Myrmidon, gained a new stadium recently with the construction of the New Oxford Coliseum, a stadium that seats 55,000 people. Previously, the club had made use of a stadium at the University of New Oxford, which was much smaller and not adequate as the club's fan base expanded. The stadium perhaps deserves the name of 'Millenium' more so than the actual Millenium Stadium, as it is very modern and has almost a space-age feel to it. The stadium is also totally covered with translucent panels, giving it the look of a gemstone, and also protecting the pitch from inclement weather. The Coliseum is also notable for its VIP boxes, of which it has more than your usual stadium. While fans can get a bit rowdy (New Oxford is a University town after all) and the pitch can get a pit dark, the atmosphere totally makes up for this, and teams like playing here because of that unique atmosphere.

OTHER VENUES
Estádio International de Santiago, Santiago de Ceni
Image

This stadium is the home of the Afanc Superleague club Septentrional and can seat 47,800 at full capacity. Santiago de Ceni is in the north of Ceni and boasts a vibrant Hispanic culture with street food and restaurants galore to delight the palate. This stadium has a modern feel to it and is designed with the colors of the Cenian national flag in mind. Santiago de Ceni itself is the northernmost of the venue cities, although it is well connected to Cenial via a commuter rail link.

Southeastern Ceni Stadium, Whitehaven
Downtown Whitehaven
Image

Whitehaven is the home of the club Polaris and this newly-built stadium, which seats 49,500, for the increasingly popular club. Arguably the most beautiful spot in Ceni, Whitehaven is known for its beaches and its spas. Originally, the town sold itself as a center for sea bathing, which, 200 years ago, was said to have medicinal properties. A nice sea breeze blows along the beaches here, and the tradition of sunset walks along the beach has attracted lovers for a while now. The Southeastern Ceni Stadium was built near the shoreline and designed with the sea in mind, with its bluish color and wavy pattern. Whitehaven is the southernmost Copa Rushmori venue, but it can be easily reached via the integrated Metropolitan Tetrad metro system.

Westgreen Park Stadium, Westgreen
Image

Westgreen is an affluent, suburban Ceni on the western coast of Ceni. Built very recently to be the home of a Afanc Strait Superleague side and to upgrade football facilities outside the Metropolitan Tetrad, the stadium is designed with the "park" designation in mind, featuring vertical gardens throughout the building and ring of trees between the stadium's outside and the pitch. It is even more sustainable than the Cenial Halcyon National Stadium, with net negative carbon emissions and solar panels on the roof.

Eleanorian national team roster for the 84th Cup of Harmony

Postby Saint Eleanor » Wed Oct 26, 2022 10:43 am

World Cup 92 - twenty-second matchday of qualification
The All-Hamster Revolutionary Liberation Front 1 (Nibbles goal 62')
Saint Eleanor 1 (Melcheta Pazorzal goal 52')
Image
Notes
  1. Shirts: visualised to your right.
  2. Race and ethnicity: Pazorzal [ethnically Sochean], taFrexala and weMexala [ethnically Gladom Newion] are black. Hollenberg is white [but half-Tinhamptonian through her mum, half-Atoccian through her dad; never mind that they are almost identical shades of white anyway]. All others are white [and ethnically Tinhamptonian].
  3. No drama: Eleanorians play football the way they're entirely convinced it's meant to be played. No gloves (goalies excepted), no long-sleeved thermal underthings, no obnoxiously-coloured boots, absolutely no cutting off the bottoms of their socks and sticky-taping a new one on, and no unjustified whinging, moaning or faking: just getting on with the job, having "fun," and trying to win somehow. Some call it non-league standard. Others call it dour, evangelical Christianity (never mind only 70% of the population believes it). We call it one of the thirty-five best forms of football in the world. Trust us; the WCC says so.
  4. Additional information: The names of all players and staff in the Biography section are hyperlinks to their interviews with Jamie Rodgers; they should not be treated as part of this roster.
  5. How to read my roster's short list: Every position in the short list has a colour code: goalkeepers are orange; defenders red; midfielders green; strikers blue; managers purple; assistant managers pink. Major palmares (WC, CoH, BoF ----- CAFA, AOCAF, CR, CE, IAC ----- CL/CC, ChC/GC, AT, CWC, LBCT/SBCC, RSC/YC) are in golden yellow, and - for staff - distinguished by whether won as a [P]layer, [M]anager or [A]ssistant manager; witness Priscilla Evans.
Names of players who remember survived WC91 are in bold as an emergency measure until we qualify for another one. Why? History! Heritage! Fame! Positive Vibes! Wanting to qualify for another one so I don't have to do this every fucking time! I shouldn't say that, Electrum will hate me. And Priscilla Evans. That girl loves the Cup of Harmony so much...
  6. Timestamp: This roster was ICly issued on 6th July 2002, the day after the end of the World Cup groups and twenty days before the start of the CoH in the Eleanorian timeline. All data is accurate as of that date, although clubs remain accurate as of January 2001. (ICly due to a rare SEFA recordkeeping L. OOCly because TW38, the transfer window that will happen between 2001 and 2002 in Eleanorian canon, hasn't happened yet.)
  7. I'm sorry - Rachaelle who? OOCly, kudos to Queb for offering Ms Davies a girlfriend now that she's living away from long-time GF Charlotte Bryant. (ICly, I told you Exandra was a bit of a socialiser.)
  8. Jamie Rodgers' Goalscoring Goalkeepers: Will be completed during the group stages(-ish) as scheduled. saWemotolera, Houston, Atherton, Carey - in that order.

Roleplay Permissions: Yes, but...
  • No wholesale changes of the Eleanorian squad ("wholesale" being whatever I define as wholesale - but please don't be afraid to start or bring on a few listed subs)
  • No more than two red cards or other forms of ruling players out per match, unless I send you a telegram (via Saint Eleanor) or Discord message (via Tinhampton#7402) to the contrary
  • No injuries outside the groups and last sixteen (inclusive), and even then no longer than one game, again unless I say otherwise
  • Please no other violations of bodily autonomy. Yes, that means no deaths too, here or elsewhere in Saint Eleanor. Or of Eleanorians elsewhere :P
  • No trying to remove the manager, her assistant, or Eleanorian government officials from office (this includes no giving my staff members, named or unnamed, red or yellow cards - an area of the IRL Laws of the Game which I strongly disagree with on principle)
  • Absolutely no destruction of Saint Eleanor or significant areas thereof
  • The Eleanorian media - especially SESB and The Reporter - reserves the right to fact-check obviously false claims about Evans, Mitcham junior, and their players
  • Eleanorians do not take part in anthem protests, taking the knee or other similar political gestures in or around matches - but can, and sometimes do, speak their minds off the pitch

Biographies (written by Jamie Rodgers, chief football correspondent of Saint Eleanor State Broadcasting)

1: John Bailey --- position: goalkeeper --- age: 33 (born 31/07/1968) --- club: Independence 1975 [EXT] --- height: 6ft1in (185cm)
coffee preference: "coffee" --- appearance: neat, short black hair; blue eyes; facial hair all over, but only a little bit --- parental occupations: died fighting for Eleanorian independence (father); primary school teacher (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: an astonishingly tenured Army man

Possibly the greatest goalkeeper in Indy's history - a constant in the team whether they've been challenging for the title, winning three in a row or struggling for the IFCF spots - the secret to Bailey's success is that he's actually a goalkeeper. He seldom ventures off his line when it isn't necessary, partially in keeping with the Eleanorian tradition that the people most readily capable of dealing with problems should do so and partially out of fear of being unnecessarily lobbed or rounded from Margaret knows how many yards out. When it is, he does, with great success. Nothing else needs to be said.

2: Cathy Winchester --- position: leftback --- age: 23 (born 29/08/1978) --- club: Independence 1975 [EXT] --- height: 5ft3in (160cm)
coffee preference: milk and one sugar --- appearance: short blonde hair, but not really that short; blue eyes --- parental occupations: real estate agent (father); housewife (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: working a variety of temp jobs and internships while waiting to inherit the family business

Winchester is, by this point, a cult hero among supporters of club and country alike: a nailed-on starter for the Liberators despite their recent troubles, she has also proven her worth for the national team (although some might argue that her winner against Juvencus in the playoffs last cycle tips the scale well in her favour). Despite only having taken up football as a hobby aged nine, she has proven herself to be strong in making passes, cutting them out, and, of course, stopping them from ever happening. These might look like the fundamentals, but to misquote Derek Pittam, she is "a midfielder in completely the wrong place" - which is a compliment, not an insult. Ignore the fact he tried to change her mind about positions to no avail.

3: Exandra Davies --- position: rightback --- age: 28 (born 18/06/1974) --- club: Winnipeg United [QUE] --- height: 5ft8in (173cm)
coffee preference: milk and two sugars --- appearance: long, super-curly, obviously-dyed-peroxide-blonde hair; brown eyes --- parental occupations: rubbish disposal worker (father); supermarket cashier (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: the guitarist-slash-frontwoman of a punk rock band that's completely unknown beyond south-east Saint Eleanor city

Some footballers are sensible enough to be all-rounders. Davies is crazy enough to be an all-rounder. Despite keeping to rightback, she is unquestionably competent at just about everything that could be expected, and unexpected, of her: man-marking, woman-marking, person-marking, tackling, dribbling, passing, shooting... okay, so her idea of some of those concepts might be different to yours. She has her superstitions - most infamously among them the pre-match half-satsuma - but claims "it doesn't matter if I forget about them for whatever reason." Although she does appear to have forgotten about long-time girlfriend and one-time Good Hope Club teammate Charlotte Bryant while in Quebec and is now onto Rachaelle Hernandez, a local 22-year-old who just so happens to be an up-and-coming MMA fighter. Just don't get into too many arguments, okay?

4: Sam Newbridge --- position: centreback --- age: 27 (born 20/10/1974) --- club: Grand Beach [EXT] --- height: 5ft10in (178cm)
coffee preference: standard-issue black --- appearance: very short black hair; brown eyes; more than a bit of stubble --- parental occupations: kitchen staff at Grand Beach's Willis fried chicken shack (father); bank teller (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: voted one of the top twenty most unemployable bouncers in Anaia

Calm, refined, more distributive than anything... not a chance. Newbridge still has his reputation as Grand Beach's enforcer for almost a decade - despite his best attempts to chill his style in recent seasons - with his simple-minded physicality, somewhat more complex-minded ball-winning skills, and very occasional outbursts proving to be a furiously relaxing break from the typically mellow pace of Eleanorian defending. It's not quite Enigma Armageddon or Alex Keane levels of "what the fuck?", but it gets the job done, it's worse than Paul Ferry would have ever considered, and it makes him best-placed to partner captain Liam West for the nationals - when he isn't suspended. (With that said, the three reserve centrebacks are all pretty good, which makes a change from a few years ago.)

5: Liam West [captain] --- position: centreback --- age: 35 (born 01/03/1967) --- club: Independence 1975 [EXT] --- height: 6ft0in (183cm)
coffee preference: milk and no sugar --- appearance: mildly scruffy blonde hair; blue eyes; reasonably-sized beard --- parental occupations: garden equipment store worker (father); hotel receptionist (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: the full-time manager of that little shop back home in Carpentersville

West's captaincy both of his club team and the White Stars is extremely well-deserved: having kept toxic influences in the sides at bay (especially after the 82nd Cup of Harmony), having the ear of both managers, and generally having a 100% approval rating among his colleagues - a figure rivalled among leaders only by the President. As against Newbridge's direct approach, he prefers to keep the opposition on edge for as long as possible, then either see what happens (the results are not pretty for those who come up against him) or try and steal the ball when they're distracted. He's never clocked Maddie Gordon in the face, either, which is always a big plus.

6: Bridget Coombe --- position: defensive midfielder; actually wouldn't be that bad as a centreback --- age: 26 (born 02/11/1975) --- club: Latrobe Athletic [KSK] --- height: 5ft11in (180cm)
coffee preference: green tea with a drop of honey --- appearance: brown ponytail; brown eyes; unshakable glow of positivity --- parental occupations: retired Army sergeant (father); secondary school philosophy teacher (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: a trainee science teacher at the Parkside Community School

Upon being called up for the national team before the last World Cup, Jim Paterson of The News Letter, eastern Saint Eleanor city's local newspaper, likened Coombe to "a liberal arts student stranded in an advanced calculus class." This was always unfair - she has a 2:1 in physics from the University - but, over the past two years, has dated at a speed that would make any Geektopian jealous. Despite having left her home district's club for the KFL Championship very recently, the Parksider was held in extraordinarily high regard while she was still at Olympic, with her physical strength, defensive solidity, creative proficiency - and very occasional goals. (Although they were, admittedly, very big ones most of the time.) Did she finally break into the starting lineup due to popular demand? That might have been part of the reason, but all of these qualities definitely shone through when she did get minutes for the national team last time: expect more of the same this year. I said that last year and she didn't do half bad.

7: David Newcastle --- position: left midfielder --- age: 28 (born 22/04/1974) --- club: Independence 1975 [EXT] --- height: 5ft9in (175cm)
coffee preference: milk and no sugar --- appearance: normal, short black hair; brown eyes; clean-shaven --- parental occupations: garage mechanic (father); cleaner (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: carrying out unauthorised third-party repairs on really big and fancy electronics

Newcastle has asserted at multiple press conferences that "my parents taught me attention to detail," but it's definitely there no matter who put it in him. His ability to swing the ball into the box, swipe it across the other end, slide it across the floor a few yards, run with the ball for a few seconds, or even just try his luck from a distance is strong; so strong, in fact, that most people barely even notice them, despite the fact he's been a regular starter at all levels for something verging on five years by now. Those who pay attention might - and do - call him "boring," but his big moments are either too inadvertently entertaining or far too nerve-wracking for that label to be merited in any way.

8: Sylvia Hollenberg [H.R.H. Princess Sylvia of Atoccia] --- position: defensive midfielder; plausibly a bit better at CM --- age: 21 (born 29/05/1981) --- club: Sword and Shield [EXT] --- height: 5ft9in (175cm)
coffee preference: milk and no sugar --- appearance: short blonde hair ("a break from decades of royal tradition"); blue eyes --- parental occupations: the King and Queen of Atoccia
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: representing the Atoccian royal family on business much less important than the World Cup

SESB's infamous 1998 profile on Hollenberg propelled her into a spotlight she tried her best to vaguely care about - even James Warwick, sports editor of The Reporter, called her "the second most exciting princess in football." But if she has lived up to her recent hype, however, she has done so quietly and without the slightest hint of fuss, and not only because she's been avoiding alcohol and a few of the more raucous university parties. Although more of a traditional central midfielder, she has improved as a holding player in qualifying, and with good reason: she remains fairly adept at breaking up play - sometimes perceptively, very occasionally by force - and starting it back up again, continues to stay away from audacious passes and one-in-a-bazillion shots (ignore the fact she scored twice against Atheara), and might actually be tall enough to challenge for headers, come to think of it.

9: Dekamela weMexala --- position: striker --- age: 27 (born 05/05/1975) --- club: Occidental Olympic [EXT] --- height: 6ft0in (183cm)
coffee preference: milk and one sugar --- appearance: long, braided black hair; brown eyes --- parental occupations: barista at Parkside's Premium Coffee shop (father); forklift driver (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: the single most productive logistics worker in Eleanorian history

Much like Corporal Aidan Harris, her predecessor in this role, weMexala is fairly slow, astonishingly strong but fair, the kind of person who'd rather get on with the job than talk about it - and one of very few starters who can even dream about winning in a one-on-one header situation. Unlike Harris, she has a potentially bright few years ahead of her, isn't inexplicably injury-prone, likes setting up her fellow attackers when necessary (increasingly rare though this may be), and actually takes her shots. In short, a good old-fashioned goal poacher - perhaps the kind of player most Eleanorians would have been crying out for during some of the White Stars' poorer displays in qualifying. With O'Donnell aging while facing an underreported club career, weMexala will step in as starter - allowing the attacking midfielder, more likely than not clubmate Steve Pilchard, to become the attacking dynamo.

10: Steve Pilchard --- position: attacking midfielder (again... at last) --- age: 24 (born 08/09/1977) --- club: Occidental Olympic [EXT] --- height: 5ft6in (168cm)
coffee preference: milk and one sugar --- appearance: short but slightly unkempt blonde hair; brown eyes; almost clean-shaven --- parental occupations: groundskeeper at the Liberators' Park (father); housewife (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: part of the front-of-house staff at a trendy independent café

Now one of only two household names with the Olympic squad (with weMexala), Pilchard is by now as close as you can get to being a nailed-on starter for the national team. This was only consolidated after a few sub-par performances as a standard central midfielder during the early stages of qualifying, forcing Evans to push him forward to a more attacking position and broadly readjust to the 4-2-3-1 that most fans expect from the White Stars. Secretly, he probably does want to go further forward and become a striker in his own right, and it will most likely play out like that: despite being infamously okay at dribbling, not the quality you should expect at this level, he more than makes up for it with a good eye for goal (from reasonable distances that might somehow be worthy of an eyeroll) and a well-developed sense of good and bad passing (especially from reasonable distances that actually are reasonable by international standards).

11: Jessica Martin --- position: right midfielder --- age: 31 (born 14/03/1971) --- club: Sword and Shield [EXT] --- height: 5ft7in (170cm)
coffee preference: milk and two sugars --- appearance: short but inch-perfect chestnut brown hair; brown eyes --- parental occupations: retired Army corporal (father); accountant (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: the executive director of a social-justice-focused charity... just like Vice-President Charlotte Morgan was

Eleanorian football's greatest campaigner, Martin has an opinion on everything from zero rates of VAT to computing education to wheelchair-accessible public transport. Despite some concerning noises from most of the people Sword and Shield have insisted over the past decade or so are "the manager," she hasn't exactly let that put her off football. Her ball control continues to improve with age, and with it her ability to confuse and anger leftbacks in equal measure. With that said, as the first person to score a goal in national team history and now setpiece taker for club and country, she isn't too bad at going forward and remains more than competent at swinging crosses into the area: all in all, a bit more chaotic than Newcastle but no less valued.

12: Tim Brandon --- position: right midfielder --- age: 26 (born 09/02/1976) --- club: Grand Beach [EXT] --- height: 5ft9in (175cm)
coffee preference: milk and no sugar --- appearance: extremely average blonde hair; brown eyes; a bit of a moustache but no beard --- parental occupations: operations manager (father); care home worker (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: Grand Beach District Council's in-house intern onboarder

The first thing you need to know about Tim Brandon is that he is fast - and speed is not a card in most Eleanorian footballers' deck. The second thing you need to know about Tim Brandon is that, of Grand Beach's widely-feted "front four," supposedly the future of Julia Atherton's young and developing side, he alone has lived up to expectations so far (although striker Rachel McNamara is so very nearly there). He doesn't have his head in the sand: he knows how to get the ball into dangerous positions and sometimes even fancies a go himself, but his balls fail to receive adequate support far too often. One would hope that, if he ever gets substituted onto the pitch for the White Stars, the higher calibre of striker will help him and the entire nation deliver.

13: Georgia Wood --- position: goalkeeper --- age: 30 (born 15/04/1972) --- club: Golden Unicorn [EXT] --- height: 5ft11in (180cm)
coffee preference: a lot of milk and no sugar --- appearance: short brown hair; blue eyes --- parental occupations: senior manager at Broadlands' Hiyashi factory (father); local newspaper editor-in-chief (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: an accountant, because of course

Having your dad work for the people who own your club's biggest rivals is definitely one way to tone down the volume on the derby. It's not as if Wood hasn't been doing that for her entire playing career, anyway, as one of the quietest members of perhaps the quietest team in the Saint Eleanor League. Although very slightly error-prone and a smidgen under six foot, she is still somehow heads and shoulders above most of the nation's other goalkeepers by virtue of not getting herself into too much trouble - her reputation as a teetotaller who always happens to go to sleep by 11:30pm (extraordinarily late match finishes notwithstanding) is the stuff of legend in certain Brightway circles. I mean trouble on the pitch. Most Eleanorian footballers' idea of a "party" is to order themselves a pint at the bar, get it done within a few minutes and then go away.

14: Hugh Roanoke --- position: left midfielder --- age: 27 (born 23/06/1975) --- club: Sword and Shield [EXT] --- height: 5ft5in (165cm)
coffee preference: milk and no sugar --- appearance: short, curly black hair; brown eyes; what feels like a small perma-beard --- parental occupations: serving Army colonel (father); mathematics professor at the University (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: a somewhat less tenured Army man

If ever there was one, Roanoke would be an unlikely Eleanorian hero. Born three hours after the National Liberation Front announced the country's independence from Tinhampton and sired by one of the men who helped out in the war effort, he spent his childhood around the Collegiate district (he had to), was good enough for Sword and Shield's full roster first thing after graduating community school, but decided to improve himself after consistently being cold-shouldered from the first team - before being given his chance after John Parkinson tried to overthrow Evans and generally suffered an inexplicable degradation in play. And as we all know, most Eleanorians are deferential, consistent, hard-working sorts. Put Roanoke in that bin - and definitely don't underestimate his inch-perfect dribbling and just-better-than-decent sense of attack like some less astute rightbacks have done. (And "less astute" describes many of the Saint Eleanor League's rightbacks.)

15: Lydia Nicholls --- position: central midfielder; now fairly adept at CDM --- age: 21 (born 11/10/1980) --- club: Hiyashi Celestia [EXT] --- height: 6ft0in (183cm)
coffee preference: standard-issue black --- appearance: short ginger hair with the freckles to match; brown eyes --- parental occupations: line manager at the Hiyashi factory (father); actually-trustworthy car saleswoman (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: working for the First Bank of Saint Eleanor's investment banking division

In the absolutely politest sense possible, Lydia Nicholls has no morals whatsoever. Some of those who have met her insist that she is a rather nice - even wonderful - person who'll most likely leave you alone but has no tolerance for inane bullshit or otherwise veiled threats. This might be true off the pitch, but there is very little chance of her leaving you alone on it, especially not if you look like you might be threatening a goal. This is not to say she is indiscriminate or that stopping the opposition at all costs is her only strategy - of course she also knows how the old Eleanorian arts of distribution work, despite not being particularly fond of going forward for the most part - but it is, at least at this moment, what she is best known for. That and her lob from the halfway line against Juventud. But it was Juventud.

16: Esther Launceston --- position: centreback --- age: 21 (born 30/06/1981) --- club: Athletic Saint Eleanor [EXT] --- height: 6ft2in (188cm)
coffee preference: only drinks water --- appearance: stereotypically blonde ponytail; brown eyes --- parental occupations: regular human resources employee (father); the meteorologist on Channel 4's news bulletin (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: a rising small-screen actress with a couple of horribly autotuned hit singles to her name

Despite a fairly strong defensive tradition, it should surely say enough about the parlous state of Saint Eleanor's centrebacks outside Independence 1975 that Evans had to call up a mostly-untested 19-year-old almost entirely on the grounds that she has "good fundamentals." But this is most likely not an accurate impression of Launceston, who played a few league games and all fourteen Champions' League matches alongside Wlad Wlad for Athletic and, for the most part, performed admirably. Although certainly imposing both aerially and on the ground, and (unlike certain other defenders) willing to tackle to win the ball if needs must, it almost feels like she just seems to know where the supporting players are when she does have possession - that and who it's best to give it to. Hardly spectacular stuff - although you would expect someone of her background to be - but it's working. You almost feel like she'll have secured a long-term place in the starting lineup the next time Sam Newbridge decides to be a very naughty boy.

17: Adam Denby --- position: striker --- age: 28 (born 13/04/1974) --- club: Olympic Thessia [MYT] --- height: 5ft9in (175cm)
coffee preference: milk and one sugar --- appearance: neatly-trimmed dark-blonde hair; blue eyes; a bit of a moustache --- parental occupations: died fighting for Eleanorian independence (father); painter and decorator (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: an electrician for hire roaming the streets of Mytanija

Denby is no doubt looking forward to another good season at a blue-tinted Olympic side that's been struggling to get into the IFCF spots and desperately needs a dynamic striker to help get there... all well and good, except they're in Rushmore. Not that he'll feel too disoriented, never mind concerned: more of a smooth operator than an out-and-out brute-forcer, he is quite happy to ping off short passes if it means playing the more traditional striker in (should the manager field one), but is nonetheless good for the a-goal-is-a-goal goals as much as for the stunners when he wants to make his own mark. Although recent changes to the national team's attacking strategy mean he will more likely be brought on for the wily Pilchard than the bulky weMexala, he almost certainly wouldn't mind either way and might even make a mark of his own.

18: Aaron Francis --- position: centreback --- age: 25 (born 03/09/1976) --- club: Golden Unicorn [EXT] --- height: 6ft1in (185cm)
coffee preference: standard-issue black --- appearance: very short black hair; blue eyes; mostly clean-shaven --- parental occupations: rubbish disposal worker (father); waitress at Geometrio's pizza (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: an unnecessarily dedicated PE teacher at the Brightway Community School

Once a diamond in the rough, always a rough diamond... surely not? Although a hard-hitting, harsh-tackling defender with Juventud, more often a burial site than a training ground for decent young footballers, Francis has come into his own at the Unicorn, where he has discovered that his previous reputation was built on sorry mistakes and a lack of focus. And while he hasn't entirely patched up that particular tendency (although he's pretty close), it is safe to say that his ball-winning are cleaner, his interceptions better, his passes less reminiscent of "hoofs" you've seen better versions of in Audioslavian grassroots football leagues, and his coordination far superior to where it was when he walked out of the Polytechnic - and all this despite barely getting any minutes in the qualifiers. We should all be better for it.

19: Harriet Williams --- position: central midfielder --- age: 32 (born 03/08/1969) --- club: Athletic Saint Eleanor [EXT] --- height: 5ft7in (170cm)
coffee preference: milk and one sugar --- appearance: big, dirty blonde topknot; blue eyes --- parental occupations: bus driver (father); supermarket shelf stacker (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: running a small business in the heart of the infamous Marketplace district; she likes her beer too much to drive anything

Williams has always been more a creator than a destroyer, with a particular fondness for passing forwards (although in any direction), not sideways, pitching free kicks similarly, having a go from twelve yards out and sometimes further afield in open play (with some degree of success). Although at one point Athletic's last great Eleanorian, the likes of taFrexala, Lawson, Driver and Launceston have all emerged in recent years and she's been tailing off a bit for the Reds. With Evans transitioning the squad to a five-midfielder model for the upcoming cycle, she can take a few more risks with who she plays in the middle - and with no less than three promising defensive midfielders (one of them more adoptive than a natural, it must be said) at her disposal, she can afford to start Steve Pilchard and bench the Whitehammer girl.

20: Naresmet taFrexala --- position: rightback --- age: 25 (born 11/12/1976) --- club: Athletic Saint Eleanor [EXT] --- height: 5ft9in (175cm)
coffee preference: "coffee" --- appearance: fairly short black hair; brown eyes; somewhat notable beard --- parental occupations: senior masseur (father); kitchen staff at Whitehammer's Torch burger bar (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: a fairly nondescript ambulance driver (and paramedic in training)

Yet another solid and reliable player who hardly anyone seems to care about - they didn't even pay attention when he set up Nightingale for a dramatic late equaliser at Raynor City United a few Champions' Leagues ago - taFrexala was acclaimed the national team's second-choice rightback for various reasons. One of them is his bona fide desire to overlap, cross, get back and hope for the best (which is at least less scattergun than anything Exandra Davies could ever come up with). Another might be the consistency with which he seems to be able to win tackles, stop dribbles, and whatever the hell lies inbetween those two things without too much mess. And he is, of course, better than Evan Kilkenny, who is better than almost every other Eleanorian rightback.

21: Alan Eldridge [Army rank: Lance-Corporal] --- position: leftback --- age: 28 (born 26/09/1973) --- club: Army and Navy [EXT] --- height: 5ft8in (173cm)
coffee preference: standard-issue black --- appearance: ultra-short, DIYed blonde hair (and clean shave); blue eyes --- parental occupations: carpenter (father); delivery driver (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: serving the pints at a National Liberation Front Club somewhere in the big city

To be perfectly clear, Alan Eldridge does not have a future with the Eleanorian national team - and you need only take Alan Eldridge's word for it. To be clear, he is a good player: he is a much better defender than he was before he got called up at the start of last cycle; he has been one of the leading lights in an otherwise mediocre, if improving, Army defence; he has a good sense of positional awareness and will often hand over attacking play to the midfielder in front of him - and yes, he has somehow won a few caps along the way. But with Christina Fulton having put in the hard yards for Grand Beach over the same time period, many people see her filling in as deputy leftback next time (even the current one). Until then, and with SEFA always reluctant to change the squad before Cups of Harmony, this is his one last chance to shine.

22: Katie O'Donnell --- position: striker --- age: 32 (born 17/02/1970) --- club: Kitara AA [BNJ] --- height: 5ft9in (175cm)
coffee preference: no milk, one sugar --- appearance: strawberry blonde ponytail; green eyes --- parental occupations: Head of Years 13 and 14 at Whitehammer Community School (father); hairdresser (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: a glamour model, occasional actress, and the most bookish socialite you're ever likely to meet

A healthier, somewhat fitter version of Priscilla Evans by Evans' own admission, O'Donnell has always been a rather prolific striker. She almost has to be, with her willingness to throw herself around (for good reason only), get into anything that looks like green space, and generally sense out opportunities that hardly anyone else notices - witness her infamous bicycle kick from five yards out on the penultimate day of the 1995 season. But she is 32, widely believed to be a bitpart player for Kitara AA - we don't know whether she's being outshone by Pemecutanian striker Dewa Putu Mahardika for certain, given scant media coverage of the Shango-Fogoa Premier League since she joined ("it's Katie's fault," if Athletic winger Graham Lawson is to be believed) - and more energetic than anybody who plays in front of Steve Pilchard alone should be, condemning her to regular appearances on the substitutes' bench for the first time since the Baptism of Fire.

23: Arielle Richardson --- position: goalkeeper --- age: 21 (born 10/03/1981) --- club: Sword and Shield [EXT] --- height: 6ft0in (183cm)
coffee preference: milk and one sugar --- appearance: brown ponytail; not-quite-as-brown eyes --- parental occupations: barista at an independent café in Collegiate district (father); florist (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: permanently booked to live in the University's Library

You almost certainly read the above mini-file and suspected that Richardson was a bit of a romantic. It would be accurate to call her a bookworm, but she has vouched for falling asleep at the opera, not wanting to follow her (University College) teammates to nightclubs, and - more than almost anything else - wanting to study. Whatever you do, do not hold your conversations with her during the match: she is far more likely to shake you into paying attention, actually pay attention to the proceedings herself, try to grab hold of the ball if the opposition ever thrusts it in her general direction, and move the ball where it makes most sense (rather than just kicking it out... somewhere). Sword and Shield have never been defensively strong, although with Richardson and a few bright young things at the back, that might well change later in the 2000s.

24: Denise Livingston [Army rank: Lance-Corporal] --- position: centreback --- age: 20 (born 07/08/1981) --- club: Army and Navy [EXT] --- height: 5ft10in (178cm)
coffee preference: no milk, one sugar --- appearance: short, if slightly frizzy, brown hair; hazel eyes --- parental occupations: scaffolder (father); serving Army sergeant (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: that one construction worker who thinks that still being on site working at 2am is a good idea

2000 was not a particularly good year for Army and Navy - and it was almost certainly much worse for an off-colour Ken Wilkie, which might have given Livingston an aura of competence. But perhaps it was always here: she won the Golden Backpack in '98 after captaining the Army School to just one goal conceded in five games, getting to the ball before it could get her side in trouble, jostling opposing strikers off the ball if they posted an immediate threat, and dutifully attending to all of her tasks in general - all traits which have certainly been evident during her two-and-a-half years of playing, mediocre as they have been for her lub. Although rather unlikely to get many minutes for the national team - and perhaps only called up to fill one of the three open roster spaces - you would not bet against her making a good, if not particularly shouty, impression should she get the time.

25: Natalie Monaco --- position: central midfielder --- age: 25 (born 24/09/1976) --- club: Golden Unicorn [EXT] --- height: 5ft7in (170cm)
coffee preference: milk and no sugar --- appearance: reasonably-sized blonde ponytail; brown eyes --- parental occupations: call centre worker (father); secondary school supply teacher (mother)
if she wasn't a footballer, she'd probably be: working the rest-of-the-city beat for The Northern Mail

The more attacking of the two midfielders in Ian Jones' setup, Monaco's behaviour was at times very similar to that of Macbonian second striker Gionata Mariani. I don't need to say that spraying the ball everywhere is an important part of her toolkit, but her passes lead to goals - or at least something approaching that - fairly often, and she enjoys having a go from distance if she feels like it could be beneficial. Some believe she is far too big for the Unicorn, but nobody ever says that about Pazorzal and very few would imagine her having the same impact elsewhere. Many more have called for her to be introduced to the national team, and with very good reason. Expect little (if anything, given the stakes)... but prepare for more than a fair bit.

26: Melcheta Pazorzal --- position: striker --- age: 29 (born 18/08/1972) --- club: Golden Unicorn [EXT] --- height: 6ft3in (191cm)
coffee preference: no milk, one sugar --- appearance: clean-shaven head, clean-shaven face; brown eyes --- parental occupations: road management worker (father); manager of the oldest newsagents on Dignity Cross (mother)
if he wasn't a footballer, he'd probably be: following his dad into the highway maintenance business

Although tipped for removal just before this cycle began, he stayed on the team due to a combination of the WCC authorising 26-player rosters, and his consistent performances for the Unicorn (ever since it started tailing off from its 1992 peak, in fact); despite being rarely sighted on the pitch during qualifying, he remains in reserve for the Cup of Harmony. Although hardly a creator, he should perhaps be thankful to be regularly receiving chances from his second striker and the midfield, although he is willing to operate alone should it come to that. He always tries his best to take those shots, too. It's no wonder he's their local pace-and-power, goal-every-other-game man; nobody would be surprised to see him receive similar opportunities when he comes on for the White Stars, and a few might well expect him to.

==========

Manager: Priscilla Evans --- former position: striker --- age: 45 --- clubs of note: Crystal Fair HC [CRY] --- height: 5ft7in (170cm) --- nationality: Tinhamptonian
coffee preference: milk and no sugar; likes her tea the same way --- appearance: no-nonsense brown ponytail; blue eyes --- parental occupations: semi-comfortably retired
Despite having a dodgy back for a good part of her playing career (and ADHD), nobody really knows how Priscilla Evans managed to become Tinhampton's greatest ever footballer, lead her home country to the 73rd Cup of Harmony, and then enjoy ten presumably-good seasons and a few deep IFCF runs at Crystal Fair of the United League while aging at a surprisingly Equestrian pace. Other than whoever at Tinhampton City FC organised that prize draw. Her typically Eleanorian management style - quiet but outspoken, relatively hands-off, very much forced to mediate the kinds of combating cliques that just aren't supposed to form in this environment, but with clear expectations of players nonetheless - has led the national team to a Baptism of Fire quarterfinal, a surprise World Cup qualification and precious little else. She promises she'll lead Saint Eleanor to the top of their qualifying group for World Cup 93 but nobody believes her (and SEFA won't even put it in her contract).

Assistant Manager: Stephen Mitcham [Army rank: Lieutenant] --- former position: none --- age: 36 --- clubs of note: none --- height: 6ft1in (185cm) --- nationality: Eleanorian
coffee preference: milk and no sugar --- appearance: black hair, short back and sides; brown eyes; inappropriately ginormous beard --- parental occupations: President (father); First Lady (mother)
It might not have looked like it in recent times, but being Priscilla Evans' assistant is not a fun job, not even if you're the son of the most important man in Eleanorian history. (No, Cathy Winchester is a lady.) You have to consult with her on matters of great importance, collaborate on tactical issues (and, very rarely, team selection), be ready to step in should anything earth-shattering happen, pretend to be the official team psychologist, and generally keep everything in its place. Has Mitcham done that? More than competently. And where Evans has largely lacked a managerial philosophy, he appears to have played to their strengths by requesting a relatively defensive approach: one that has, for the most part, paid off rather well in the grand scheme of things. Which is neither grand nor a scheme.
****** The Grand Republic of Saint Eleanor - area 2,863mi2, population 489,816, 1.6 cups of coffee/Eleanorian/day - it's 2000 (OOC: obvious Tinhampton puppet)
BoF76 quarterfinalists --- WC91 participants

Why? George Mitcham, General then and now, cofounded the National Liberation Front in 1971 to demand a free Saint Eleanor. He got his wish in '75 after a 15-month war: becoming President, appointing notable NLF friends and some charity's executive director as VPs and calling them legislators. He has retained power through oil money; zero income tax; free healthcare, schooling, public transport - and markets; tolerating dissent on apolitical matters; allowing private gun ownership (with plenty of training) to protect against future invasions; high-quality PR; and football.

Cabo Azure National Football Team "Las Maçaricas"

Starting XI
Chicken Corte-Real
Gouveia Silveira
Ferreira
Rathbone
Maciel
de Lima Branco
Medeiro Moniz
Gomez

The Gaffer
An amiable, always smiling man well into his seventies, Paulinho has coached every iteration of the Azurean national team that has played. While he isn't getting any younger, he also hasn't shown his age too much, not in his selections to the national team and not in his tactics. He favors an attacking style, with wingbacks joining the attack and a holding mid that provides cover for the centerbacks while pulling strings from deep. A brief flirtation with a 5-3-2 style succeeded only in exposing the national team's lack of depth at centerback (the brothers Brandao aren't bad, per se, but it's a steep dropoff from Moniz and Medeiro, both of whom play in first-rate foreign leagues).
Goalkeepers
GK Ambrosio Gomez 23 y/o Olympic Thessia (MYT)
A good all-round keeper, seasoned by his time in Mytanija. Earned the starting role during World Cup qualifying and is expected to keep it until he retires or falls out of favor.

GK Gilberto Valente 29 y/o Portelo
Lithe and quick, but prone to overcommitting. Rose to prominence when Portelo did the double a season ago, winning the Liga Hidalgo Primer and the Copa Maçarica.

GK Zezé Sapateiro 20 y/o Miruan City FC (TKT)
Recently signed to a Tikariotian side as a backup, will likely be a backup for hte national team for the foreseaable future

Defenders
RB Amilcar Branco (C) 27 y/o Dhun Lagarr FC (TKT)
The Maçaricas’ undisputed starting right back, and one of its best players who has recently emerged as a leader both on and off the field, leading to his being given the captain's armband. A pacy fullback with the speed and skill to contribute on offense,

CB Adão Moniz 26 y/o Reschensreppur (GRF)
An agile, harrying centerback making his way in a league dominated by “Big F*cking Grantfjallers”, Moniz was a fixture for the Azureans in qualifying and continues to improve.

CB Deodato Medeiro 27 y/o Marine Coast United (VIL)
Less of a traditional centerback than Moniz, Medeiro has the skill to close down offensive players and win one-on-one duels, which has contributed to his success in Vilita.

CB Kevin Brandão 29 y/o Villa Arboles
The proverbial last domestic centerback standing, Kevin is a consistent presence in front of goal, though he is notably weak in set pieces on both sides of the ball. Will likely see some minutes in relief, particularly in defensive situations.

LB Ademar de Lima 25 y/o Sao Vicente
Originally a carbon copy of Branco, the left back de jure has evolved into more of a stay-at-home fullback than his counterpart, though he is no slouch going forward.

CB Emilio Couto 22 y/o Regiis Dreamland (BRO)
A big, scary centerback starting on a defensive team in Brookstation, Couto made his bones as a rotational player in qualifying and will look to figure more prominently in the CoH.

FB Heitor Soares 25 y/o Blackheath (TLI)
A pacey, athletic wingback not at all in the Azurean vein, Soares has nevertheless found great success in the All Parish Championship under the nom de guerre "Bandicoot" and earned his first senior team callup

FB Marcelinho Costa 26 y/o Regium Immortum (OAM)
Though he lacks the panache of his peers, years of fierce competition in Oberour Ar Moro has sculpted Costa into a tough-tackling, canny fullback who makes smart passes up field and terrorizes attackers in his own third.

Midfielders
CM Narciso Maciel 25 y/o Colonial Sile (VIL)
Along with Medeiro, one of two young Azurean players to take root in the Vilitan top tier. A composed, intelligent player with great distribution and off-ball movement. A true general to anchor the midfield.

MF Marciano Ferreira 30 y/o Sao Cristobal
Still among the fastest players on the pitch, Ferreira’s ball control and distribution have not developed the way many hoped, possibly because of his situation at Sao Cristobal, where he is expected to be the one to get the ball into the box on almost every possession.

MF Seth Rathbone 22 y/o Portelo
A clever, pacy winger with the ability to invert, Rathbone plays a decidedly different role for country than for Portelo, where he is a central midfielder, but has adapted well.

DM Marco Lobo 24 y/o Villa Silva
Like Rathbone, a young Azurean who failed to move overseas and has instead established himself at a top domestic club. A strong holding mid, and one of Paulinho's go-to defensive substitutes.

DM Vitor Rego 22 y/o Sao Vicente
A defensive-minded midfielder like Lobo, who plays as almost a third centerback for Os Pastorinhos

AM Bento Cunha 25 y/o Natal
A fast, aggressive attacker who has yet to develop beyond his physical gift but lacks the finishing to be a target forward, or really any kind of forward.\

Forwards
FW Cleto Silveira 27 y/o Vantanoch FC (TKT) (C)
Despite not establishing himself in Tikariot, Silveira remains a mainstay of the Azurean national team, scoring many of its crucial goals and assists. Despite this, if he has truly peaked, he may see himself moved aside in favor of the younger guns in the chute behind him.

FW Vasco Gouveia 25 y/o Tikariot City FC (TKT)
After multiple cycles being accused of glory-hunting in meaningless games, Gouveia showed up big for his country in the WC91 cycle and was rewarded with a regular starting spot.

FW Vasco Cardoso 22 y/o Mountainside (EUR)
Playing close to home and close to the ground in Eura, Cardoso has been a crucial but understated part of Whitepill's recent success in the Euran Silver League, which saw them finish just shy of promotion and the IFCF Liga B Champions' Trophy in the Eura League's season 50. His hard-nosed play has earned him a transfer to Mountainside, a Gold League team which narrowly avoided relegation while winning last season's cup.

FW Nicodemo Corte-Real 23 y/o Corn Palace (SFD)
A highly unexpected success story, Corte-Real has evolved into one of the best strikers in the Sanford league as well as an every-match starter for the Macaricas. Tall, athletic, and with excellent holdup play, his future with both club and country is bright.

FW Pio Mendonça 21 y/o Swangard Athletic (QUE)
After several promising appearances in WCQ and the Cup of Harmony, Pio was the subject of the largest transfer fee in Azurean history as he moved to the top tier of the Quebecois league

FW Estavao Fonseca 23 y/o Carathyr Emeralds (TKT)
A fan favorite among the Azurean diaspora in Tikariot, Fonseca proved his worth in his first caps with the national team in WC 91 qualifying

Cup of Harmony 84
Delte Valley Representative Team
Tournament Squad

Away Colours: All Redshirts Away Team
Home Colours: All Green of The Valley
Third Colour: All Gargoyle Salmon Gold

As the Cup of Harmony is classified as an Away Team mission, the red kit will be considered first choice colours for the tournament, green as second and gold as third. There is a national shortage of graphic designers along the River Delte, with the one professional - young Slim Dyndeling, who plays football for Ughmirren FC in the Delte Valley Tuesday Evening & Sunday Lunchtime Super League - failing to win selection for the representative team again and refusing to help out with natty team graphics.

Nickname: The Special Deltic-Cooperite Away Team / The Representatives
Formation: Attack-minded 4-4-2 Diamond

National Anthem: How Green Is The Valley
The Reps' Anthem: Three Salmon On Our Shirts (Never Stop The Leaping)

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:

The Representatives are a team of amateur players from the Delte Valley area of a largely empty country just off to the sidewise of the North Pacific region. It has nothing remotely to do with Wight, Bonesea, Mustardy, Qazox, FSS-Oh, Liverentia-England, Tequilo, or Licenflamingopacibonbonterra.

As outlined in RPs of the recent World Cup, the Valley has recently identified a physiological issue with travelling abroad, called Hyper-Gerontological Ageing Syndrome, HGS, commonly and sensationally nicknamed 'the jerry' - in which persons of Deltic origin age far more rapidly when away from the cleansing airs and waters of our green and pleasant land. While the scientific experts from up and down the river consider the implications and possible treatments for such a syndrome, extended travel away from the valley is extremely restricted. The FA must select a new squad of players who have not previously travelled abroad for each Away Team mission.

As will be outlined in the forthcoming RP series for this particular competition, a group of strapping lads from Rushmore - The Tonneliers - have volunteered to join the away team. They recently arrived in the valley on a fleet of junk boats and a rusty container ship, The Mothball, fleeing Pink Supremacist-motivated genocide on the Cooper River.

About The Representatives
& Deltic football in general

The Delte Valley Tuesday Evening & Sunday Lunchtime Super League is the principle men's 11-a-side league and The Representatives are a men's team; the second and third tiers of Deltic men's football are covered by the Early Closing Wednesday Afternoon Parish Championship. Women's football along the river is primarily under the auspices of the Friday Night & Saturday Morning Ultra Premier League, a six-a-side highly technical fútsal code. The women of the Delte prefer not to engage in silly games of 22, and the Ultra Premier is the most widely supported of all leagues in the valley. Unification of the gender codes comes in the form of The Thursday Evening Mixed Nines Football Cup - "the oldest organised football competition in all the valleys and probably everywhere," according to The FA.

A combined management committee formed of members of the various league and cup competitions represents the de facto authority for the sport and identifies as the All-Week Super Ultra Premier Football Association, or simply The FA, and employs one fulltime administrator/chief executive, Issenda Tenning (plus her PA, Oughar Sule). Recent engagements in NSWC competitions has brought an avalanche of cash to the organisation, which is presently constructing a new training & rehabilitation camp at Tunn's Farm just outside Oswark and thinking of other ways in which it might splash it's newfound wealth. Oughar is hoping for a pay rise and perhaps an assistant of his own. An eighth-day transhuman godmod summer major league is under consideration, as there is always room for more football.

The valley has produced one professional footballer. Enor Perro the young defensive midfielder was dropped from the representative team after participation in Baptism of Fire '78 when he left the valley, having been spotted by scouts in Farfadillis and signing for Rülândéá Kôstä, to become so far as anyone knows the first professional footballer from the valley. Everyone is tremendously pleased for him and if he gets a game or two for the big club, they might commission a statue of him in his home village of Warkin.

Deltic Time is the equivalent of RL time; this is, for the Delts, the second World Cup of the year, and the third overall by the NSWC. In Deltic time, the World Cup has been running for about twenty years. The football season in the Valley runs from March to October, with a summer break, and Oswark Town have just been crowned champions for the twenty-eighth time, putting them one behind rivals Oswark United. They prevented a third title in a row by recent power team Ughmirren FC. Clubs are complaining fiercely about player burn out when they join The Representatives for the relentless World Cup schedule, saying a lot of things along the lines of "something must be done," - which is indeed something The FA are thinking about.

West Barack and East Obama National Football Team

A Brief History of Obaman Football

Football as a sport is prohibited in West Barack and East Obama, along with other team sports such as cricket, rugby and paintball. This is because the prevalence team sports has a strong correlation to organised crime, violence and political dissidents, so all attempts at forming groups are prohibited. However, West Barack and East Obama has established an official national football team to help promote Obaman values on the international stage.

The Obamen most recently participated in the World Cup Qualification rounds, where they finished 7th in a highly competitive group 10. Finishing above higher-ranked seeds such as Abanhfleft and Quakmybush would seem like a good performance, along with memorable victories over teams such as Saint Eleanor, but the qualification ended with 6 players being suspended for the first match alone, possibly leading to problems. Hopefully good spirits could lead to the Obamen achieving victory in their first Cup of Harmony.

The Coaching Team

Head Coach: Buck Obamafinakis
Assistant Coach: Tuck Obamafinakis
Goalkeeping Coach: Chuck Obamafinakis

The Obamafinakis brothers are legendary throughout Southeast Obama. Known for their law firm 'Obamafinakis, Obamafinakis & Obamafinakis', these triplets are known for their expert litigation skills and have reduced countless death penalty sentences to paltry life imprisonment with hard labour and without parole sentences. Now, they're putting their persuasive skills and tactical knowledge to the real test by continuing their role as the coaching staff of the West Barack and East Obama national team for the Cup of Harmony. Rumours that they were forced to take the job so that the government can distract them away from practicing law to better suppress dissidents are still false.

The Players

The players of the football team have been selected based on a variety of factors. The team that has been selected is the one that will maximise winning in competitions whilst minimising the possibility of bonds forming and teamwork being fostered.

Goalkeeper: Dwayne Obama, 36

Captain Dwayne Obama is a fighter pilot for the Glorious Obama Air Forces. Known as 'Dwayne, Destroyer of Planes', Obama has taken down more enemy aircraft and blown up more secessionist state hospitals than can be counted. His reflexes and quick thinking helps him to get out of sticky situations, and his incredible muscles from intensive training means he can stop a powerful ball with just his pinky. The perfect goalkeeper candidate.

Left Centre Back: Trent Vobama, 37 (Captain)

Trent Vobama is the venerable captain of the team. His performance in the recent ODI World Trophy led to his call up for the football team, with many applauding his leadership and wondering if this old dog has some tricks up his sleeve. A very respectable figure (except when unceremoniously receiving red cards every few matches), Trent's experience as a PE teacher will help him command the team to a victory.

Centre Back: Barack Denovitz, 29

A feared mob enforcer in downtown New Barack City, the Obamafinakis brothers convinced the Obaman courts to let Denovitz out for the competition, and if he succeeds could earn 10 years off his 150 year sentence (with hard labour). The definition of a hard man, he doesn't tackle, he just scares them away. Suspended on his international debut and suspended for his team's Cup of Harmony debut, he petrifies all that comes near him.

Right Centre Back: Bark Obamallama, 31

Door-to-door llama salesman Bark Obamallama has really thick skin. You'll need it to if your day was spent dodging llama spit and verbal abuse from disinterested buyers. Described as being devoid of any emotions, Obamallama will have no second thoughts about ending that opponent's career with a devastating (but legal) slide tackle.

Left Wide Midfielder: Jenny Barracki, 27

Being a professional sprinter, Jenny Barracki is the fastest woman alive. In West Barack and East Obama. She can outrun most of her opponents down the wing, delivering crosses to waiting strikers.

Left Central Midfielder: Harvey Chobamya, 28

Harvey Chobamya is not your average gym bro. He spends all of his days and nights on the treadmill at Anytime Obama in New Barack City, as well as doing all of the leg and feet exercises. The strongest lower body in the whole of the nation, he can send balls out of the stadium with just a slight tap. Leg day skips this guy.

Central Midfielder: Otto Obama-Richards, 21

A replacement for the ousted Wolfgang Obamadeus-Mozart, Otto Obama-Richards is the definition of a midfield maestro. Of course, his sporting experience in synchronised swimming may make him more of a midpool maestro, but his elegant kicking will lead to some fine moves on the pitch.

Right Central Midfielder: Charles Obama, 27

Royal Butler to The One and Only Barack Horatio Obama, Charles Obama is also a very skilled footballer. A holding midfielder, there's no room for nonsense when this guy's on the pitch. His commanding presence and knack for providing service to his fellow players will come into handy.

Right Wide Midfielder: Brett Pogama, 29

Brett Pogama has a lot of sports experience, participating in one of the most popular sports in the country (since team sports were banned) in greyhound racing. He plays the role of the rabbit, where he has to run as fast as he can to escape a pack of vicious greyhounds. Most of the time he gets out with only a flesh wound or two, showcasing his excellence for evading opponents to bring a ball into the box.

Left Centre Forward: Lily Chobamya, 19

Sister to Harvey Chobamya, Lily is good at free kicks and penalties. Inbetween her courses at Frederick Obamatown National Health University, she practices her set pieces, which aren't technically illegal as there's only one player playing. You don't become your team's all time top goalscorer without breaking a few of your legs.

Right Centre Forward: Fred Olibama, 30

Fred Olibama is one powerful forward. He is a cobbler by day, but in his spare time makes some of the best sports shoes known to man. Being both the striker and the kit guy for the team, his experience in bring in the shoes of a footballer will definitely be a big help to the team, even if his Obaman Tank designs may stimulate your gag reflex.

About the Prosaic Union
The Prosaic Union of Gnejs – commonly abbreviated PUG, colloquially called 'The Union', often nicknamed 'The Rock' – is a country located in the far north-east of Rushmore. A constant source of bewilderment for many, the name Gnejs comes from the native word for the type of metamorphic rock called gneiss in English and German. The root of the word is believed to derive from the High German gneist, meaning roughly 'spark', the link being that the rock glitters. Gneiss is a common rock type across the territory making up the modern-day nation, and has historically been a readily used building material component.

A vast and sparsely populated land, The Union covers about 1 220 000 square kilometres and has a population of just under 16 million. It is divided into four big regions – Berg (north), Birka (east), Ängby (west) and Vika (south) – which in turn are divided into counties and municipalities. The Interior compromises an immense area of more or less untouched wilderness at the heart of the country's inland and covers parts of all four regions. The capital city is called Port Kejm – located on the coast in the region Birka. People in general are quiet and reserved. While idle small talk without purpose amongst strangers might be considered appropriate and expected some places, in The Union it is usually frowned upon and considered bothersome. The native tongue is called 'Gnejsian' (native: gnejsiska) and has a long and rich history. There's an abundance of regional dialects, some so distinct from others that many have suggested they really constitute different – albeit strongly related – languages. It is common to divide the many dialects into three different 'families', north-eastern (OOC: Norwegian), western (OOC: Swedish) and southron (OOC: Danish). Children learn English (known in The Union as 'the common tongue') from the age of five, and the population at large is generally considered to be fluent.

ATHEARAN NATIONAL TEAM - Cup of Harmony LXXXIV

The official roster for Atheara in the 84th edition of the Cup of Harmony.

Atheara enters the 84th edition of the Cup of Harmony after a somewhat successful return into the international footballing scene, finishing 6th in their qualifying group. This time, The Blue Guard are still hungry to prove that they can finally grind out of the Cup of Harmony group stages by doing the best thing they can, and that is playing the game. Whether they will succesfully enter the knockout rounds or still stand stuck in the groups is a question that will soon be answered in due time. With the exact same roster, Atheara faces whatever challenges it must in this edition's Cup of Harmony.

MAIN TACTICAL SET UP
Image
4 - 1 - 4 - 1

Atheara now plays a variation of the 4 - 1 - 4 - 1 formation. Rather than having two central midfielders, Atheara places an attacking midfielder for more offensive options. This is also to ease the transition from defense into attack, due to the fact that in Atheara, the 4 - 1 - 4 - 1 is more of a slow build up, forward moving formation. With this new tactical set up, it allows for the ball to be deployed towards the wings as the wingers rush forward and not just when the rush down the wings have started. It also allows the lone central midfielder to decide on whether to stay back for defense or to join the attacking play, depending on the current situation. In short, versatility and more open options on the attack.

At the front, you have Dawnbridge. Despite having a partner at Eastria FC, he will be the lone striker for Atheara. He is a great player overall from technique to passing, to flexibility and shooting. He operates mostly around outside the box and near the outer insides of it, usually going for long shots and outside the box goals with his signature curving shot. For the key man in the box, it is attacking midfielder Dottier. Not only he can do everything an AM would do, he is also deadly for headers and in the box goals. His finishing is also sublime, so expect Dottier to drive forward inside rather than Dawnbridge. At the center of it all is Van Desseilts, a player who can press forward or track back. And overall a versatile player that can play according to the situation. On the wings, Nieroth - Albrin is fast and likes to cut inside, but he is more of a dribbler. He is better at keeping the ball himself and driving forward for a goal of his own, but may pass to his teammates from time to time. Van De Keyes is not as fast, but his passing is mostly spot on. He is also amazing in speed for someone who is 193cm. Then there is Ridgefork, a CM turned DM for the national team. Kristian Johansson saw him being more defensive at Harindar SC, and decided to try this idea out. This also gives Atheara an extra attacking option on the field at all times, sacrificing the defense gained from that of a typical DM. But that will be trained, and it might be smoother than what was thought of due to Ridgefork's nature.

In the defense, you have the partnership of Coelho and Aslen - Morhallik. Two high work rate and pressing defenders that rotate around their part of the field at all times. While Coelho is the younger and faster defender, Aslen - Morhallik is the older but more technical and smart defender. Both cover each other's blind spot when one of them is pressing it out. At the fullback position, there is Winger on the right and Archengate at the left. Both fullbacks can and tend to charge up front, but with some differences. Winger tends to charge to the halfline, then offloading the ball to either Nieroth - Albrin or Van Desseilts. Meanwhile, Archengate tends to charge up to the half point in the opposition's side to offload it to either a charging up Van De Keyes, or crosses it to the other side of the field or even a forward cross for Dottier to charge forward. Sometimes a cross to Dawnbridge for him to take a quick chance from outside of the box. And in the net is Mikel Horzabath Krygorf, you may know who he is related to from his name. Overall, just as good as his over-a-decade older brother, though lacking the leadership abilities that Mugel Krygorf has. But that might be compensated for his far better natural read of the game.

However, for charging forward, the general tactic is a mix of quick and fast bursts of speed and dynamic passing between the players to push up front when possession is gained from the enemy team. And the general strategy done in defending from the opposition is a mix of high, constant, relentless pressing that tries to clamp down on enemy players before they have the chance to create a goalscoring opportunity, or before they move forward at all. This is to ensure Atheara wins back possession as quickly as possible while trying to maintain their defensive line.

Cup of Harmony 84

Sargossa - 'The Corsairs'

Head Coach

Slavko Jelic (Mytanija)

After a dismal second half of the World Cup qualification campaign and an early exit from the Cup of Harmony, coach Alejandro Echeverría decided enough was enough and called it quits. His replacement may be something of a left field choice, but he certainly ticks a lot of boxes. A coach with vast experience who has spent more than a decade at CDSA in his homeland, creating teams that have consistently punched above their weight. Most recently he led the Decraa based side to Challenger’s Cup qualification. Recommended for the role by Mytanar legend Lev Repin.

Backroom Staff

Assistant Head Coach: Momchil Klemetic (Mytanija)
Assistant Head Coach: Eduardo Larrea
Defensive Coach: Luis Sánchez
Attacking Coach: Joaquín Gutiérrez
Set Pieces Coach: Manuel Semprún
Goalkeeping Coach: Dario Almirón
Fitness Coach: Luis Miguel Sacristán
Team Doctor: Dr Carla Segura

Talent

GK: 1. Alejandro Martínez (32) – Sportivo Soluca
GK: 13. José Manual Acosta (24) – Dínamo Maturín
GK: 25. Jacobo Robles (27) – El Nacional

As a teenager Martínez was touted as a future star by no less a luminary as former Corsairs’ keeper and coach Martín Tejera. He’s now spent more than a decade proving that praise to be justified. Still undeniably the nation’s top keeper. Acosta is a local lad from Maturín who has come through the ranks to star in the SuperLiga. Robles too earns a first call-up and is reliable pair of hands if called upon.

DR: 2. Tobías Figueroa (27) – El Nacional
DC: 5. Iván Franco (27) – Sportivo Soluca
DC: 6. Nicolás Riesgo (20) – 1923 Esca (Mytanija)
DL: 3. Alfonso Barrueco (28) – Ciudad Soluca
DRC: 12. Adrian Soriano (25) – Ciudad Soluca
DC: 14. Juan Miguel (26) – Dínamo Maturín
DL: 19. Milagros Fernán (22) – Lok. Cassia (Mytanija)
DC: 21: Joaquín Sanz (23) – El Nacional

He may not have been in post long but the new coach hasn’t been afraid to ring the changes. Andrés Obregón, Juan Manuel Martí and former captain Máximo Moya seem to have paid the price for the last campaign’s woes. In have come Dínamo’s Juan Miguel, after being named in the SuperLiga team of the season, and Ciudad’s Adrian Soriano, who can operate as a centreback or on the right of a back four or back five. Milagros Fernán offers similar versatility down the left, having often been deployed in both defence and midfield in the past. But the most interesting addition is Nicolás Riesgo. The Sargossan-Mytanar defender is earning rave reviews in the Mytanar Top League and the FFS are hoping to steal a march on the FSM in claiming the youngster’s international future. Having a Mytanar in charge can’t exactly hurt either.

AMLC: 24. Martín de la Cavallería (23) – Dínamo Maturín

Jelic has favoured a 3-5-2 system in the past but the suggestion is that the new coach wants to build a solid base and may instead deploy a 3-4-2-1 formation instead. This would see the wingbacks used further forward, at the expense of the more offensive minded wide players in the squad. González will likely keep his place in the centre, but who partners him is the big question. Varela is his regular neighbour in the system, Águila provides a more defensive option and newcomer Collazo is an ever-willing all-rounder who the coach knows and trusts from their days together in the Mytanar Top League.

FC: 9. Mateo Manzanares (27) – Dínamo Maturín
FRLC: 10. Pablo Alarcón (27) – El Nacional
FRC: 17. Jeremías Saavedra (25) – Ciudad Soluca
FLC: 20. Juanma Varela (27) – Piratas De Ariaco (Costa Izula)
FC: 23. Gustavo Alcocer (19) – Atletik Thessia (Mytanija)

Manzanares remains the nation’s principal goal threat and whether the coach uses a single striker or a front two you can bet that the Dínamo will be there. His squad mates though are an interesting batch. Saavedra is a class act but injuries limited his action last season. Pablo Alarcón is a true phoenix rising from the ashes tale. An enfant terrible who looked to be wasting a prodigious talent through a series of disciplinary and off-the-field issues. Thankfully those issues now seem to be behind him. Certainly El Nacional have benefitted from the newly focused Alarcón. Varela is an even stranger pick, plying his trade out in the colonies. But the Izulan player of the season has buckets of class and will be featuring in a newly reformatted Sargossa top flight next season. And Alcocer is another of the talented batch of Sargossan-Mytanars. Most of his appearances for the Mytanar title holders have come from the bunch but the lad has serious potential.

Style

In Sargossa the three at the back is king so, for a coach who is no stranger to three centrebacks, Jelic should have little impediment in implementing his favoured tactical plans. Although the word is that he may be parking his favoured approach for a 3-4-2-1 system, albeit with his preferred 3-5-2 in the back pocket if necessary and an alternative back four option if it's all going totally pear shaped. Traditionally Jelic’s sides have been strong defensively so expect the Corsairs to soak up the pressure before launching their own counter attacks. Set pieces will likely play a key role too. Specialised set piece coaches are much in vogue domestically and Manuel Semprún has been poached from champions Ciudad Soluca to fill the role for the national side.

The SuperLiga is quite a physical league so challenges can often be described as 'uncompromising' and cards are pretty common. Gamesmanship, while not encouraged, is not entirely uncommon. But diving is considered particularly stigmatic so Sargossan players are unlikely to be found doing it.

CHARTISTANI NATIONAL TEAM
Squad for the 84th Cup of Harmony

About Chartistan

The Musicalistic Union of the Cities of Chartistan (Often just Chartistan) is a nation in the region of Sonnel. The capital city, Billboard, is where most of the residents live and work, and is also home to the main governing jurisdiction of the country. Other major cities include Official City, Gaon and Aria.

About the National Team

The Chartistani national team picture varies from week to week as do the Chartistani... Charts. The Chartistani NT was decided by this week's Chartistani Hot Chart, a 100 player index of the top players in Chartistan, the Bubbling Under Hot Chart, a 25 player index of up and comers, and whatever other chart we could find.

The main Chartistani home kit is purple with blue accents, while the away kit is mostly black.

Manager: Doctor Lucas Combbrush
A Musicville district citizen of Chartistan's largest city Billboard, Doctor Combbrush has been part of the Chartistani setup since day 1 as the manager of the national team, having the honor of being player-manager for a good stint of his career. After just barely missing out on the playoffs, however, it was back to the old Cup of Harmony tirefire...

Manager: Image Kurtis Rakeruth, age 53
Assistant: Jürgen Eisenhower, age 44

Goalkeepers
GK: Radek Šťastný, age 27, Rolalas FC Image
GK: Adél Deák, age 34, Stilinkeep FC (F)
GK: Tomáš Přibyl, age 27, Royal Jam FC Image

The keeper position sees several new faces enter into the pool with the stalwarts of Mezei and Szekeres having been dropped from the pool due to poor play and aging out of the team respectively. With that, it enables Tomáš Přibyl to grab the number one shirt, having become something of a wall for Royal Jam FC in Eastfield Lodge since getting the starting role at the club. The battle for the second spot in the pecking order is hotly contested, although it seems that the elder Adél Deák has the inside track with her late blossoming into the national pool and a standout season with the recently newly promoted Stilinkeep, while Radek Šťastný has earned his spot as the third keeper through good play in the normally offensive Premiership.

Defenders
LB: Jakub Svatoš, age 27, Mar Sara FC Image
LW/LB: Rudy Yáñez, age 28, CA Paulinthal
CB: Michel Sarrazin, age 29, Hellinic Rouge
CB: Frančiška Marija Žužinjak, age 26, Stilinkeep FC (F)
CB: Ompoly Erôss, age 29, Club Stein-los
CB: Mozes Szölôsi, age 27, Tanrısal
CB: Szescõ Erôss, age 27, Stein-los Turkish
RB: Veronika Fábián, age 25, Marque Image (F)
RB: Andrija Hrvatin, age 29, Serrapince FC Image (F)

A cycle on and the options in defense are quite different from the last time the Wanderers were entering into Qualifying. The main mainstay will be the starting centerback of Michel Sarrazin, though the Spartans defense was not as good as it was in previous years it was of no fault of the talented defender. He will be paired with Mozes Szölôsi, who has grown into a formidable defender over the last several seasons with Tani. In the rotation reenters Ompoly Erôss after showing the same steely resolve in this last season as the season Club Stein-los unexpectedly won the title, while crosstown rival Szescõ Erôss likely holds the last spot on the plane. At leftback, the sturdy Jakub Svatoš ensures the flanks are well protected with having improved upon his defensive prowess with the Flames and keeps Yáñez from taking the starting position. On the right, it will be Andrija Hrvatin who starts, after showing for multiple seasons her performance at Serapince is no fluke, likewise with Fábián having learned to be a well rounded player with Marque.

Midfielders

RW: Katinka Pálffy, age 27, Tanrısal (F)
RW: Kat Földessi, age 23, CA Paulinthal (F)
AMC: Ilona Kárpáty, age 26, CA Paulinthal (F)
A/MC: Mária Szánthó, age 27, New Bastion Image (F)
MC: Moore Lafontaine, age 24, Stein-los Turkish
D/MC: Csongor Sebeôk, age 27, Hellinic Rouge
LW: Vojmil Topić, age 29, CA Paulinthal
A/ML: Gillen Madrigal López, age 27, Raynor City United Image (F)
LW: Asztrik Biró, age 22, Mâ Âlâmëómë Image

After two cycles of a mostly stagnant midfield, there have been quite a few sweeping changes, much as has been the case for the entire pool this cycle under the guidance of the Nepharan manager following their first cycle in charge. A lot of experienced players have been switched out for players more in their prime and who have been playing well at club level. The most startling of these comes at the center midfield position, with Márió Szölösi dropped from the pool, letting Ilona Kárpáty of CAP to take that starting spot. The destroyer role is a shallow place currently for the side, which Csongor Sebeôk should be thankful for in retaining his position despite a less than stellar domestic campaign. Yet it is on the wings that the Wanderers are spoiled for choice, the left wing has three supreme talents to choose from but it is Vojmil Topić who is the clear favorite among the three. Katinka Pálffy claims the right wing spot after three stunning seasons in a row with Tani in the SuperLiga but her spot is heavily challenged by László Petô who added a few goals on top of assists in the latest domestic campaign to add to their skill set.

Strikers

LW/ST: Elek Salai, age 27, AC Izotz Zubia Image
ST: Eustacio Corral Magana, age 27, CA Paulinthal
ST: Najiyah Lubanah Mifsud, age 32, Stein-los Turkish (F)
ST: Vázsony Sallay, age 28, Serrapince FC Image

The inconsistencies of the strike force have finally seen the pool shaken up some, with Nagy and Bernat dropped from consideration with a cloudy domestic situation for both. Salai continues to be the obvious head of the spear, having looked quite like a once in a generation talent from the moment he appeared in a Young Wanderers shirt many moons ago. The question is who best works alongside him and after a magnificent campaign for CAP, that appears to be Magana for the time being, although Sallay has made a remarkable case for playing time with good performances in the Qualifiers and Mifsud is a reliable scorer even if she is getting on in years.

Tactics

Some might say that the PFA rescued Rakeruth out of a disaster and gave them a way to fall upwards with their poor showing in Sanford prior to being appointed. However a cycle in charge had the Wanderers make the knockouts and looked quite comfortable in doing so, using a strong midfield that uses its wingers and strikers to stretch out the defense and exploit the pace and playmaking abilities within the Pasargan national pool, while remaining defensively sound.

Roster Info
It's unlikely that this supposed strongest eleven will take the field together due to injuries, suspensions, or the manager just plain preferring other players, etc, so feel free to chop and change as much as you like.
  • Formation: 4-5-1
  • Style Modifier: -4

Potted history
  • Audioslavia reached the finals of World Cups 12, 19, 20 and 29, losing all of them and gaining a reputation as a team that chokes.
  • After thirty cycles away, Audioslavia returned to win the Baptism of Fire before World Cup 59, won the AOCAF Cup in cycle 60 and then won back-to-back World Cups in cycles 63 and 64. That's the golden generation right there.
  • Things went back to normal after that. The side lost a few more major finals, including World Cups 67, 69 and 76.
  • Audioslavia reached consecutive semi-finals in the World Cup before catastrophically failing to qualify for World Cups 91 and 92. Nevertheless, the side prevailed in the last Cup or Harmony and proudly (generally) defend their title in CoH 84.
  • Audioslavia is one of two nations to have won five major senior titles - BoF, CoH, WC plus two different regional championships. Whether the side are the fourth or fifth team to win the WCC Grand Slam depends on whether the CoH83 final happened before or after World Cup 91 final. YMMV.
  • Until recently, the side held both the CAFA Cup and the WCC Cup of Harmony simultaneously. Audioslavians had the absolute nerve to use the definite article when calling this 'The Double'

Style of Play
  • Post Football is the name given to Audioslavia's style of play. It's based on the idea that, the less the game resembles football, the more ill at ease your opponents will be. Audioslavia play dirty, sideways and overly cautiously.
  • Kontrapuntzeka is another word for it. Literally meaning counter-attacking, Audioslavia's national team are comfortable playing without the ball and charging forward in numbers when they do have it. Each player on this team has a deep understanding of how, when and where to attack on the counter. Losing the ball and allowing the Bulls to hit you on the break can be fatal to even the best teams in the multiverse.
  • Audioslavian footballers tend to be on the shorter, leaner side, with everyone outside of the goalie, centre forward and centre half topping out at about 5'10.
  • Audioslavian footballers are often tenacious and resistant, with the highest levels of stamina you'll see in world football. Audioslavian sides are often capable of playing at a high-tempo for long periods of time, and wins are often through attrition rather than skill.
  • Audioslavian teams are notorious for gamesmanship - the bending of the rules in order to gain an advantage. Players will taunt, feign injury, surround the referee, basically anything if it seems like it'd be beneficial. Audioslavians feel no shame in this. As far as they're concerned, their willingness to go further than the other team is a sign that they're more dedicated than their opponents might be.
  • As well as lacking a bit of raw power, Audioslavian footballers often lack technique compared to their foreign counterparts.
  • Above all else though, what Audioslavian national teams often lack is heart. The worse things are going, the worse Audioslavians play. They're the classic bully. When things don't pan out as they expect, they retreat physically and mentally.

This team
  • Helios Roy has become the fulcrum of the side's attack. First-person accounts of games are usually written through his eyes.
  • Wilhelm Hielscher-Zendagorta, a half-Audioslavian, half-Teus striker with caps for Siovanija and Teusland. S+T's departure from international football freed the striker up to represent another national team, according to the Valrauncion rule, and has duly been selected for Audioslavia. Styrn has generally opted for either Zendagorta or Roy up front, shying away from putting both strikers on the pitch at once.
  • Archer Flat is impossibly pale, very ginger, has an ugly scar on his face and basically looks like a cartoon villain. He is all that is wrong with the world. He’s been made captain for his inside-the-tent-pissing-out-ness
  • Flat's defensive partner, Obadele Volonte, is Flat's polar opposite. Tall, cool, calm. Wins balls through good positioning rather than murder, etc.
  • Manager RJ Styrn is noteable for being the first ever female player to play for the national team. She represented Audioslavia in the late 60s and early 70s, earning 70 caps. After spending time in Calorborne (a place in the multiverse where time runs as slowly as it does in real life) she made her return to the wider world a few years ago and ended up managing Guerrilla Cathair, helping the side earn promotion to the National League for the first time in their history.

Styrn has announced that she will step down as Audioslavia national team manager after the conclusion of the Cup of Harmony tournament. With a regional trophy and a Cup of Harmony to her name, she is one of the most decorated managers in national team history, but failure to qualify for a single World Cup weighs heavy on her, and it's become clear that the public have lost faith in her.

... And we're back. Mertagne, after a tumultuous yet fierce World Cup Qualifying cycle that saw them punch up against teams such as Nephara, Kelssek, and Cassadaigua, the Green Goblins are back in action in the Cup of Harmony. All three of those aforementioned opponents made it into the World Cup Proper after each being bruised by a Mertagnian side that really got its elbows out but failed to perform above expectations coming into the final matchdays of the group stage. The Cup of Harmony, however, is familiar to the Mertagne side, having posted their best ever performance in the modern era last cycle on home shores, with a 4th place performance, being beaten out by Eura in the semi final and Cassadaigua in the third-place play-off. Both of those sides have successfully graduated to Vilita and Electrum this time around, so the stage is set for Mertagne to match or beat their previous performance.

Standing in their way are likely to be some of the teams that failed to make it to the finals of World Cup 92, such as The Holy Empire, Brenecia, and Audioslavia. Each of these teams are bulwarks in the multiversal game, and should Mertagne be unlucky enough to face off against them from their lowly 50th position in the KPB rankings, it will be an uphill battle to clinch victory. Team manager Ázëwyn Fëanáro is, as always, optimistic, citing that Mertagne had one of the toughest World Cup Qualifying groups from the point of view of a fourth seed, and that they kept the race to the top thrilling up until the final few matchdays. Many remember the halfway point of the qualifiers, where it was looking likely that Mertagne had an outside chance of beating Nephara to the play-offs. That kind of energy is the type that Fëanáro and her team will be looking to cultivate in the Cup of Harmony.

Mertagne's style of football has affectionately been referred to as 'pre-football' by eminent journalists across the region, focusing on the fundamentals of making ball go fwoosh towards goal in front more times than the other folks on the pitch can. The squad remains unchanged from the World Cup Qualifiers, as Fëanáro and Ettrick believe that this squad had a lot of potential, but simply got unlucky. Key members of this squad include Briac Lewis, who has matured well into his captaincy, naturally leading the team from the back and becoming a mentor for the few younger players on the squad. Martine Aldergrass continues to be just as effective an assister here as she is domestically in Tikariot, and it's incredibly likely that she'll be doing much of the grunt work for this team, giving it a left-side bias on the whole when combined with Corrie Kidman. Neron Everdell and Pia Aziz in midfield are, still, chalk and cheese, with Everdell learning from the worst best in Audioslavia, and incorporating tactics you'd normally see in a mugging into his control of the ball. He's a real wannnabe Archer Flat, and has recently drawn some media attention after a Mertagnian director claimed he'd be a 'stellar villain' for her upcoming action-adventure project. Images of Everdell as famous film villains have made the rounds, and for 20 ducats he'll sign a print photo for you and kick you in the shins. Aziz, on the other hand, is cunning in a cleaner way, often presenting opposing attackers with an impossible choice of getting politely yet candidly tackled by Aziz, or taken down in a show of theatrics by Everdell, who is also one of a trio of horrible picks for penalty takers that will ruin your day even further if the match requires that key kicking tete-a-tete. Finishers up front for this squad include the ever impressive Tara Number, who'll certainly have yours if you get in her way, and Heather Gell, who's developed a brilliant ability to size up the opposition and effectively cut them down with either a string of judgy insults or lithe play. Mostly both. Frederick Prost rounds out the first choice attacking three, and is looking to complete the experienced front end. Star substitutions will come from names such as Holly Eveson, whose ability to turn around a lethargic late-game squad is unparalleled, and Haizene Fairchild, who is reliable enough to come in clutch when an attacking opponent just won't break against the defence.

Kits lovingly provided by Kirola Sportswear of Audioslavia.

For cycle 92, Mertagne debut their brand new kits, courtesy of Kirola Sportswear, Audioslavia. The striking novastrella seen on the splendidly Anaian third kit (centre) is reimagined for a new Mertagnian age on the home kit (left), in a patriotic lime, integrated with a unique arrow pattern emerging, much like the national team's success, up from the bottom. The away kit (right) echoes the folded geometric design of the FMF crest, with a shape that contains elements of a folded 'F' as well as a series of stacked 'M's, in another arrow motif that this time points downwards. FMF and Kirola representatives violently refused to comment when one keen eyed journalist noted that the colours of the away kit were 'essentially a reverse Krytenia'.

THE BILLBOARD GAZETTE

BISCUTS, ADDY AND SUSHI, OH MY!

Smier-LeJacquel-Poe combo set to deal deadly punch at Cup of Harmony

Missing out on a World Cup playoff spot thanks to Valanora standing in the way would cause anybody to throw out their plans for the Cup of Harmony. For Doctor Lucas Combbrush, manager of the Chartistan national team, however, something completely different caused him to go back to the drawing board and decide the team for Cup of Harmony 84, held in Drawkland and Ceni. Barring a former Chartistani international from ever representing his country again after some particularly disgusting comments wasn't the thing that caused him to rethink how to approach the squad, nor was the expected return of Little Exnash or Yeaman Smith potentially not getting #1 (Rachel Lampona was considered instead). Instead, however, it was the return of the Vilita Mountain Games.

With Combbrush notified about the return of the multi-sport event, he had a decision to make - Either drop the likes of Yamjune. Yves and Rodgers from the AJR or prevent Whalberg and Hughes from potentially getting a seat on the plane. Chartistan, of course, sent entries to the first VMG - Most notably with Kimmi Yamjune snatching the cheese in the Cheese Rolling event - and Yamjune was the first to say that he'd like to return. "It's defending my crown, Combbrush. Let me have the chance." Doctor Lucas agreed to it. Gabby Yves also wanted to return to avenge her Semi-Final appearance in the Kleptochase event. That was also agreed. Before you know it every single player from that previous VMG team wanted to return. To quote Anne Delphine, "It was setting fire to the rain if I didn't go." Despite not doing so hot in both Spear Throwing events, she opted to go because the atmosphere was so good the first time around.

Of course, since there was no jousting event, Little Exnash didn't partake in the VMG, even though he likely wasn't going to go in the first place due to him being offered a spot in the Hot 11. Instead, Doctor Lucas decided to cast out one more team member to partake in the mystery event - He Still Freaking Exists. Or Breeze, as some insist on calling the undead zombie of Chartistan. "He's been in the roster for so long because he refuses to not fade out of the Chartistani consciousness," said Doctor Lucas in a VMG focused press conference. "Every single time that you think he's gone, he magically shows up again, whether it is manufactured radio hype or unnatural social media hype. He always finds a way back onto the charts and I always have to put him in there. But hey, I need to send someone to the VMG, so why not put him there?"

The Vilitan Mountain Games discussion left some holes in the AJR left to fill once the Hot 11 and Bubbling Under were finalized, and as expected Doctor Lucas brought a couple of names that were perhaps expected to challenge for an AJR spot regardless of whether or not the VMG were held. The Cana district's Tatertot Crazy brings a veteran's load of experience back into the team, while newcomer Official City resident Sam Lightning offers a pivot in left midfield if Little Exnash doesn't perform up to snuff. Michael Whalberg and Terrance Huges also put their names onto the 26 player roster.

But if there is one thing to fear, it is the quality of opposition on hand in this edition of the tournament. Among those who failed to qualify for the main tournament include former #2 team in the rankings and 5 time champions The Holy Empire (Decked out in hamster mech suits), Brenecia, Pasarga and Audioslavia. "I know we probably won't make a deep Cup of Harmony run, but I'm fine with advancing out of our group," said Doctor Lucas Combbrush. "We haven't done so since that miracle run and I hope we do so in this tournament, potentially in Sonellian territory. We are essentially a home team."

At this time, the groups haven't been decided for the tournament.

New Gelderland — National Football Team
Roster for Cup of Harmony 84

INFORMATION

Manager: Image Nicoletta Arnaudo

After a sabbatical in the Savigliano countryside, Arnaudo parlayed a title winning season at Stade-Ferre in Savigliane to a four-year stint at the Chromatik club Felswyr. But the club suffered poor results in its last season, Arnaudo took the job managing the New Gelderlish women's team, initially envisioned for just the Olympics. But after Arnaudo led the team to a surprising and unprecedented gold medal, beating heavy favourites Eura in the final, the New Gelderlish Football Federation will now play in the World Cup qualifiers and perhaps beyond (but not too far beyond). Arnaudo had the unenviable task of not having the team totally collapse against the high caliber of opposition like it did in the Eagles' Cup, and she actually rose to meet the challenge: as an unranked side, the team held a playoff position for a good chunk of its qualifying group, finishing fourth. It now heads into the Cup of Harmony with high hopes.

For purposes of scorination, New Gelderland will use a -2 style modifier.

ROSTER

ST Carya Longreach 20 Lexington Victory
ST Lia Aphelion 20 Image Westgreen Park Rangers
ST Tessa Bellamy 21 Royal Queenstown

Equipped with a youngish team, playing almost entirely domestically within the Afanc Strait Superleague, manager Arnaudo has her work cut out for her against the multiverse's top teams. They've only had one tournament together, and while explicit conflicts have yet to surface, Arnaudo feels that the team's chemistry isn't all that it's cracked up to be. And with no players in the neighboring top leagues of Nephara or Eura, they have little experience playing against the quality opposition that characterizes the Eagle's Cup and the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Georgia Calder will anchor the team's defense alongside left back Zorina Engstrom, playing a mentoring role to the inexperienced Electra Villin-Sallow and Abigail Apollo. In the midfield, captain Allyson McKenna is an experienced box-to-box midfielder, supporting protege Minerva Hume Nelson, who has aspirations of being a similar player. In the wings, Tara Springsure and Camden Engstrom are young and energetic, although with a tendency to find themselves trapped too far up the field to be used for defensive purposes. Although star striker Jaclyn Swan-Weiss is entering the prime of her career, club woes at Celtic Noviodunum have hampered her performance recently. However, striking partner Carya Longreach displayed flashes of brilliance at the Olympic Games, leading to hopefulness among Gelderlish fans.

THE UNITED REPUBLICS OF YUEZHOU - NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
月州联合共和国 - 国际足球队
Image
Badge and kits designed by Txakhaxi's Tahuatxi Storefront.

A new era is rapidly approaching in Yue football. The attacking core of Liu Huiying, Wen Xiaohui, Li Jing, and Huang Shedong that defined the tenures of the previous three managers is starting to plan for retirement. And with the team's glut of center-backs all pushing their mid-thirties, Chen Huikang will soon have a lot of difficult choices to make as he sketches out the next iteration of the Dragons. This cycle was viewed as one last great push for footballing glory - but after a respectable third-place finish in the groups, Yuezhou once again fell at the final qualification hurdle to Flavovespia. Now, the Cup of Harmony will be Li Jing's last chance before the beloved team captain retires - and the likes of Liu and Wen aren't far behind. Chen Huikang, a former star Dragons striker and assistant manager, had a strong reputation before taking the Dragons job. Before doing so, he had stints as assistant manager of Yuezhou, manager of CSKA Quebec, and the manager who turned Glenmount Town around and won the final season of the Licentian Premier League. But can he take his national team to the next level before it's too late?

Home, Away, and GK kits designed by Tahautxi. See the video reveal here.

Manager: Chen Huikang, 55

Chen Huikang is an excellent tactician with a propensity for fast-paced, attacking football. His attacking strengths were apparent in both seasons with CSKA Quebec, who come close to winning the Q-League and Coupe de la Reine his first season. However, still somewhat inexperienced at the time, he struggled to bring together a dressing room full of massive egos and character issues. After being let go, he seriously matured over a three-season stint at Glenmount Town, where he turned an underachieving team into Premier League champions. While the temptation to stay at a club that has almost unconditionally supported him from Day One was strong, the fiercely patriotic Nanhai native couldn't resist the temptation to manage the Dragons.

Tactics:

With the ball, the team will play quickly and creatively, focusing on controlling the ball and dynamically exploiting weaknesses in the opponent's defense. Jiawei maintains some defensive coverage on the left flank, but if the game is under control Dong will float forwards to provide width in the attack, forming a sort of 3-2-5 (Wen will also join the attackers) shape. Liu Huiying plays as a creative false-nine type, who will serve as a sort of offensive hub while dropping into midfield. The tricky Luo Nanwei will play as a right inside-forward, using his speed to make runs in behind the shoulder of the defense and his technique to create and convert chances once in the box, while Jiang provides width and support from the left-hand side. Wen Xiaohui and Li Jing, the two non-holding midfielders, will both be aggressively moving forward to join the attack and set up chances, with Wen often interchanging with Liu. Jiawei and Yuan are relatively uninvolved in the attack, although Yang's ball-carrying and long-range passes often helps progress the ball in Yuezhou's third of the pitch, serving as a key bridge between the defense and midfield.

Without the ball, the team defends from the front, relying on the pace and industry of the front three to harry opposing defenses and force mistakes. There sometimes is a sense of there being "attacking" and "defensive" blocks, the latter being comprised of the defense, Wan, and sometimes (but increasingly rarely) the versatile Li, and the former being everyone else. While this may feel somewhat disjointed in the early days, the idea is that successive lines can react quickly to the press being broken and move up to compensate and close off space. The fullbacks also tend to play very conservatively without the ball and in transitions, although Dong will sometimes push up to counterattack, giving the team a solid defensive base without the ball to work from.

STARTERS

#01 - GK - ZHAO Deliang (赵德亮) - 24 - Atletik Thessia (MYT)
A goalkeeping phenom who won a historic Golden Ball (both in terms of position and age) en route to Jiangdong's first league title in years. A cool, confident, and physically imposing general on the pitch, albeit a bit traditionalist in playstyle.
#14 - LB - JIAWEI Chuan (f) (佳薇川) - 32 - Tihon (CMT)
A quick, crafty full-back (or wing-back, or even winger if Yuezhou is really parking the bus) whose biggest weakness is a propensity to get forced off the ball. Will likely play more defensively than Dong on the right-hand side.
#07 - CDM/CB - YANG Tao (杨道) - 35 - Ephesian FC (ZWZ)
Energetic but not particularly skilled, Yang will be tasked with pressing aggressively, winning balls back before passing them to someone more creative, and kicking opponents to stop attacks. Has been creatively deployed as a center-back, with Chen believing the veteran to have both the distribution abilities and the steel needed for the job.
#05 - CB - YUAN Mingrong (袁明荣) - 30 - Ararat (MYT)
An intelligent, cultured center-back who's grown into an absolute rock at the back. Has proven himself in Mytanija as one of the best defenders in the league, and has rapidly developed to a strong all-around center back who was once the Top League's player of the season.
#25 - RB - DONG Xiaowang (董小王) - 26 - Megabrantid (SRS)
A pacy, strong fullback well-suited to the modern game, although his rawness on the defensive end will make him more of a long-term project for new club Megabrantid. Could be creatively deployed as a winger in a pinch.
#08 (C) - CM/CAM - LI Jing (李精) - 35 - Steinaux (GRÆ)
Li Jing, even towards the end of his career and despite lacking his former world-beating pace, excels on the counterattack as a creative or goalscoring threat. Has enjoyed increased praise lately for his exploits in Græntfjall due to the beginning of normalization in relations between the two countries. The long-standing team captain, this is likely his final cycle in the blue-and-yellow.
#19 - CDM/CM - WAN Sheping (万射平) - 28 - Wirr Tsi (CMT)
An old-school, defensive-minded midfielder who's surprisingly good in the air despite being 5'8". Earned a move to countryman Zhaxi Nanlei’s Wirr Tsi squad a few seasons ago, and is rapidly becoming one of the best young players in Chromatika and a key figure in the newly-minted Red League juggernauts.
#18 - CAM - WEN Xiaohui (f) (文小辉) - 32 - Libertas Bergheim (SVJ)
Wen Xiaohui, the niece of controversial star midfielder Wen Xiaoli, has rapidly developed from Yuezhou’s next big thing to a star in her own right. She wasn't a great tactical fit for Yuan Zilai's or Lu Jialan’s style, but her pace and playmaking more than merit her inclusion in the first-choice starting eleven, and her breakout WCQ87 was a rare bright spot in an otherwise miserable qualifying campaign. Has stagnated a bit lately, even becoming a substitute under Kang Guilin, but was been rejuvenated creatively in Hayabusa's system and remains a creative linchpin.
#77 - LAM/RAM - JIANG Jieren (江杰任) - 28 - Osarese Marcadia (AUD)
An incredibly quick winger, albeit one slightly out of place on the left, Jiang’s ball-retention skills need to work and he tends to play with too much ambition. Still, he’s absolutely electric when on, with a combination of scoring and playmaking on the counterattack that could really make an impact.
#10 - AM/SS - LIU Huiying (f) (刘辉映) - 32 - Sabrefell Moths (NPH)
Liu’s speed and devastating passing ability make her one to watch with every counterattack. Her high workrate, even on the defensive end, should theoretically make her a good candidate to slot into a false nine-esque offensive hub position, as she's now an attacking midfielder at the club level in the Zenith.
#30 - RW - LUO Nanwei (罗南伟) - 25 - FC Inter Nantwich (TMB)
An extraordinarily athletic player who worked his way onto Guodui's senior team as a teenager; despite some injuries during his youth career, his pace and dynamic creativity make him a terror with the ball, although he can be erratic and inconsistent. Impressed in the Zenith despite suffering relegation with Gaelic Club - enough to make him the starting right-winger after Huang Shedong's ACL tear. Now, he's been made an eight-million-dollar man, and impressed in his first half-season with Nantwich.

RESERVES
#12 - GK - MING Xilang - 36 - Mitra (ERM)
A hyper-modern sweeper keeper with excellent distribution and a penchant for coming out of his box. Has unexpectedly ascended to borderline superstardom in Eraman, earning two Golden Glove awards in a row, but critics fear his playstyle won't work in the more demanding environment of the national team.
#23 - GK - GUO Yanhong - 33 - Dhun Lagarr FC (TKT)
A modern sweeper-keeper and competent shot-stopper who is aggressive to a fault, but who had a strong enough season in Tikariot to earn a call-up.
#24 - LB - LU Lanying (f) - 26 - Rutland Dockside (CDG)
A quick, athletic left-back, Lu is strong when driving forwards and tracking back but could work on her crossing.
#27 - CB - LI Jianguo - 27 - Tihon (CMT)
Li is the best of the team's center-backs with the ball at his feet, making him best-suited for a three-man defense where he can make surging runs and spray accurate long-range passes with either foot. The physicality has never quite caught up to the ball-playing ability, as he's very prone to being pushed around by bigger strikers, but his vision and composure on the ball are just too good to leave out entirely despite a system that doesn't play to his strengths
#16 - CB - ZHU Mingxia - 32 - Crossroads (CMT)
A strong, aerially imposing center-back who generally struggles to get rid of the ball without hoofing it clear. However, some time in Tequilo has helped round his game out better, and he surprisingly held his own in the Zenith before moving on with Parrhesia's relegation.
#06 - CB/CDM - GUO Xiawei - 34 - Urrheddiao (CMT)
Formerly a makeshift libero in a back three, Guo Xiawei has often been redeployed as a defensive midfielder. One of the first of his generation of Yue players to sign abroad, for since-relegated Tanques AOE of the Ko-orenite Top League, Guo has flashes of brilliance with the ball and is very good at reading and intercepting passes, but tends to make unforced errors on defense worryingly often. Thrown into the fire by Hayabusa, who hoped that his much-improved passing and dribbling touch will allow him to flourish in a back four, but is still a shade too error-prone compared to Yuan, Zhu, and Li.
#15 - CB/RB - ZHU Aiguo - 34 - Katashi-Kanatsu (KOR)
An aggressive, versatile defender who likes to win balls and push forward with them. A center-back by trade, Zhu unexpectedly became Yuezhou's starting right-back under Lu Jialan - his emergence at the position earned him a transfer to Astograth as well as his Dragons starting spot a few years ago, but he's now back to his natural position.
#13 - RB - Diadora REEVE (f) - 32 - Coret Hawks (NPH)
Diadora Reeve is an athletic, relatively attack-minded fullback who provides an interesting tactical option for Yuezhou in place of Zhu Aiguo. We think she had a Yue grandfather or something, which is why she's turned up on the Yue national team despite everyone previously thinking she was Nepharim.
CM - YANG Xie - 29 - St. Bart's Dutch (TLI)
A dynamic midfielder whose greatest assets on the field are his relentless energy and athleticism. Has found his level with St. Bart's Dutch, where he's shed many of his former attitude concerns and become a solid supporting piece in the midfield.
#15 - CM - FANG Yuhui (f) - 28 - North Granby (CDG)
Not the most physically imposing, but seemingly endless stamina and excellent positioning mean she shows up almost everywhere on the pitch when needed to make a tackle. Not great offensively, but improving.
#11 - AM - TAO Beiliang - 33 - Newton Arran (TLI)
A relentless source of energy, aggression, and creativity, Tao is still pretty inconsistent at times, but is a great student of the game. Originally outshone even Li Jing when the pair went abroad together, but his career stalled a bit in his final years with Korsbach before his transfer.
#33 - SS/CAM - LUO Chuan (f) - 27 - Spenson Suburbia (ZWZ)
An agile, technically adept attacking midfielder at her best when distributing to others. Tends to get bullied off the ball, though.
#22 - LW/RW - LUO Dan - 32 - Coquitlam United (KSK)
A more mobile forward who can deputize capably on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, Luo is a dangerous scorer known for his quick-burst runs behind the defense, although he can be a little selfish at times. Will be playing as more traditional winger for the national team, but is also capable of playing as an inside-forward on the right or dropping back into a wide midfield position.
#36 - AM/ST - ZHENG Yuanjun (f) - 28 - Fiskadaha (PFA)
An intelligent, versatile attacker, Zheng is much more skilled as a playmaker than as a scorer, although her ability to find space with her runs has still gotten her a decent scoring record. Has become one of the Apex's premier attackers, but has yet to surpass the generation before her.
#21 - ST - JI Weibo - 28 - Brantisvogan (SRS)
While selfish to a fault and not the easiest personality to work with, Ji Weibo laid waste to South Newlandia to the tune of 17 goals in 22 matches as a teenager, and has continued to develop as a goalscorer. A pure poacher who’s posed an increased long-range threat as of lately, Ji isn’t much of a team player but can arguably lead a line by himself better than the less physical Liu can, and could be a real option off the bench.

THE JIANGDONG TIMES
THE VOICE OF JIANGDONG
YUEZHOU TO VOTE ON CRC ACCESSION IN HUGE FORWARD PATH WIN
WANG Wen, POLITICS

NANGANG -- In a 168-125 vote, the Yue Assembly pivotally voted this morning to call for a legally binding referendum on whether Yuezhou should apply to join the Common Rushmori Community. The bill, which sparked days of lively debate between the largely pro-CRC government and the right-wing, anti-CRC Liberation Army, was a huge victory for Hong Nanwei's Forward Path. Notably, the referendum will be legally binding if a plurality of Yue voters support CRC accession, a far cry from the "decisive" majority that National Union called for before the election, and nowhere near the 75% supermajority that Liberation Army demanded. The bill's passage means that Yuezhou could be joining the CRC as early as this year, as Hong was also able to pass an aggressive timetable that sees the referendum set to be held in just six weeks.

The coalition government, which is currently working with a slim majority of fourteen votes, was able to effectively swing smaller parties on the Yue left, such as the Greens and Northern League, and whip many CRC-skeptical AMs to vote with the government. While several National Union AMs did not vote on the bill, and one National Union AM even voted against it, the vote still marks a massive show of confidence in interim President Zhen Qiang from a party still largely loyal to his predecessor, Wu Zhongsheng. The Progressive Democrats, in the process of replacing controversial leader Yan Ailing after a shambolic performance in the recent elections, refused to state an official party position, but six of their ten remaining AMs also sided with the government. An alternate, more conservative set of amendments by former Foreign Minister Sun Yong, who was surprisingly not chosen for Zhen Qiang's interim cabinet, was unable to gain enough National Union support to pass.

"Today is a victory for the people of Yuezhou," Zhen Qiang declared in the immediate aftermath of the bill's passing. "The decision of whether our nation will write a new chapter in its foreign policy by joining the CRC will not be chosen by this or any other government, but by the will of the people. While I personally support the increased economic opportunities that CRC membership will afford us, I am also grateful to many of my assembly colleagues who are less supportive of CRC membership, but who still agreed to let the people decide. I am looking forwards to another triumphant expression of Yue democracy in six weeks' time." Interim Vice-President and Forward Path party leader Hong Nanwei went a step further, noting the central role that a CRC referendum played in his party's meteoric rise in the recent elections. "Forward Path sees this as the first step on the road to prosperity and unity. We wholeheartedly support Yue accession to the Common Rushmori Community, and hope that those who supported us in the elections will deliver us victory in the upcoming referendum."

Opposition leader Liang Ziyou of the right-wing Liberation Army was more skeptical, although he was significantly more measured than his campaign rhetoric would've suggested. "While we do not oppose the idea of a referendum, we are disappointed that the Zhen-Hong interim government would consider anything else than fullhearted support enough basis to abandon our Pavolan allies for the meddlers of Bastion and Corvistone. We will be fiercely campaigning to stand with our fatherland and our closest allies, and hope that those who delivered us the largest share of the popular vote in the elections continue to support us on this critical matter."

While exploratory polls showed general support for CRC accession within Yuezhou, the Liberation Army's overperformance in the most recent elections, as well as National Union's stated neutrality on CRC accession itself, suggests that the referendum might not be as easy as pro-CRC elements might expect. While fifty-five percent of Yue voters supported CRC accession in a recent Beian Tribune poll, the anti-CRC position has been gaining momentum in recent weeks, and the final result is far from certain. Still, the recently-dubbed "Face of Accession" Hong Nanwei will be supported by tailwinds from the pro-CRC left, whose preferred candidate, Shang Ziyang, is poised to win the Progressive Democrats' leadership election, as well as CRC support. Either way, one thing is certain - the next six weeks will be some of the most critical in the young nation's history.

Acastanha or Federation of Acastanha is a country located in northeast part of Main island in Mandalanusa. It has a land border with Kayangan to the southwest and Sendhang to its south. And another maritime border with Hundredstar to the southeast. It is a developing country with agriculture and some mining as their main income. CPO is the country's largest export commodity followed by timber.

In the world of sports, Acastanha started their international debut by entering 5th Melayu Archipelago Cup. They were managed to advance to quarterfinal but they were stopped by Belfitz. Over the course of the competition, they are always managed to qualify to the knockout stage. But they often ended up in the Quarterfinal. Their best performance was at the recent event, 10th Melayu Archipelago Cup where they reached the final for the first time. Although they were defeated by Eraman in the end.

In the international competition, Acastanha senior football team debuts at Baptism of Fire 74 before continuing to the World Cup. They have entered 4 times in the World Cup Cycle and never advance to the main competition. Their best result were 4th place in qualifying group which they reached twice, 90th and 91st edition. They were also invited to Cup of Harmony. Two times they were invited and both ended in Round 32.

NAME AGE CLUB
Lance Logan (20 Y/O) 1830 Cathair, Image
Joel Latibeaudiere (27 Y/O) Dursten Easterners, Image
Mohammad Mandrea (33 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image

Lance Logan earned his position as the starting goalkeeper of the Brook following a series of disappointing performances from Latibeaudiere. Logan on the other hand made use of his time in Cathair and saw a significant improvement. Logan has always proved his potential in the field and became the youngest goalkeeper to earn a starting position in the team, credited for his sharp reflexes and precision is going to remain the first choice goalkeeper of the team and is predicted to start in most of the matches. However, putting a lot on Logan's shoulder could go wrong and thus to back him up, Latibeaudiere remains as the second choice. Joel might start in some matches and having a safer option in possession would secure the goal. Apart from Joel and Lance, experienced Mohammad Mandrea is also going to remain in the team. Mandrea still continues to perform t Mandrea will not disappoint the team if he is brought into the field at any point of time.

DEFENDERS

NAME AGE CLUB
Nate Harlow (30 Y/O) Dreamland City, Image
Geovani Angeles (21 Y/O) Urrhed FC, Image
Kearyn Caceres (24 Y/O) Steinaux, Image
Noor Ali (34 Y/O) AC Izotz Zubia, Image

Jayden Alonso (25 Y/O) Strange City, Image
Rasihawn Donaldson (28 Y/O) Regiis Dreamland, Image
Rakesh Dutta (30 Y/O) Halebid Warriors, Image

Noor Ali's return definitely had a profound impact on the defense's overall performance, something that had become quite evident after the team's previous world cup run. Ali's strength combined with his agility will provide the Brook defense assurity to a certain level. Caceres is a typical full-back and can play both on the left and right sides. He is quite the safe full-back, who never makes a mistake in defensive positioning. He had a fruitful time in Graentfjall and learnt a lot from there. Caceres had played really well in the Twin Premier League and that is what caught the attention of manager Soham Misra's attention after which the rest is undisputed brilliance from Caceres. Caceres is going to be an undisputed starter throughout the qualifiers and his performance in the qualifiers is going to decide his future. Then there is young Geovani Angeles who completed a seasion in Chromatika playing for Urrhed FC. Geovani is young defender who recently won the Twin Premier League with Dreamland City. He has been a very important part in Dreamland's defense and has a bright future ahead of him. Angeles plays a crucial role in the defense and builds the opportunities from the defense. Billy plans of making him play most of the matches to test out his abilities. Apart from the young blood, there remains the likes of Nate Harlow, the most capped Brook defender. Harlow's specialty is to understand his team no matter which player plays and that makes him the first pick in the team. He evenly makes contributions to the midfield and adapts to his team mates' style on the field very quickly. Adrian Gigore is going to be a starting option at the right back. Gigore is very energetic on the field and the best tackler on the team.
However, Browne would not be playing the starting team at every match as he wants his players to get adequate rest and thus the backup options in the team would be Jayden Alonso, a very fast and energetic player, Alonso focuses on assisting and scoring goals. Tough Rasihawn Donaldson is also going to be there in the team. He has been a good substitute in the team for a long time and his ability to quickly adapt to the field whenever he is brought in is going to be really beneficial for Browne to try out his new team and strategies.

MIDFIELDERS

NAME AGE CLUB
Jean Pierre Polnareff (29 Y/O) Ancarea FC , Image
Laron Veum (29 Y/O) Lublova Reds , Image
Louis Vassell (26 Y/O) Aspel, Image
Alexis de la Vega (30 Y/O) Other side of Paradise, Image
Steve Dolphin (28 Y/O) AFC Richmond, Image
Vincent Mignolet (30 Y/O) Ribar PRD, Image
Andre Vandendriessche (22 Y/O) Jutland Cannons, Image
Andreas Roles (33 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image

If you want to have a particularly strong team with a good defense and a good attacking lineup, it would be necessary to strengthen the link between them which is the midfield. The midfield is perhaps the strongest point of the Brookstation national team. Starting with Vassell in the left to Veum in the right, the midfield has seen a number of changes this time. Vassell's performance in the Twin Premier League gained him a move to Euran clup Aspel. Vassell is deemed as an appropriate replacement of Jean Jacks who has been completely out of shape for the past few months mainly owing to injuries. Jean Pierre Polnareff is obviously there in the squad. Polnareff was always a great midfielder and in fact it would be safe to say that our win against Nephara came more or less thanks to him. Polnareff would be Brookstation's first choice free kick taker. Finally there would be Veum in the right, will allow him to open attacks from the right. Veum's chemistry with Vassel and Polnareff has been impressive which makes it easier for the team to coordinate better. Veum is a promising midfielder .Veum tends to come deeper and get open inside the hole between the opposition lines which has helped the team to get goals earlier and hopefully will this time also. Alexis de la Vega will also be a regular starter who will be ready to come to the field at any point of the match when required. de la Vega has a lot of experience and he is going to be prepared to come out on the field. Vincent Mignolet is a new inclusion to the team seeing that he performed well in his club in Zeta Reka. Mignolet performs his role well and he exploits wide angles for chance creation. He does this primarily with through balls, where successful ones are important in determining the outcome of a counter-attack. There is also Roles, someone who has been a part of the team for long and brings a lot of experience with him.

FORWARDS

NAME AGE CLUB
Leon Michael Robes(c) (29 Y/O) Cednia Beach AFC, Image
John J Johnson (27 Y/O) Space Coast Rockets, Image
Johannes Kehr (24 Y/O) Rutland Dockside, Image
Dwayne Onfroy (32 Y/O) Dreamland City, Image
Moussa Wague (23 Y/O) Lakewood City FC, Image
Alfred Weasley (22 Y/O) Weedpot FC, Image
Quincy Poe (22 Y/O) Berriaordena GZ, Image

Leon Michael Robes is at the peak of his career and he didnt fail to deliver at Turori either. Although Cednia Beach AFC had a pretty disappointing run in the league this season, he has always been on the lookout for goals and is by far the most successful captain of Brookstation ever leading Brookstation to their first football trophy. He is a dangerous striker and has a beautiful style of play. Once he gets the ball to his feet, he rarely misses the chance to score. His assistant wingmen would be John J Johnson and Moussa Wague. John has a swift style of play and his long passes help setting up his fellow strikers. He is also a fast and agile winger who can overcome defenders with his speed. Wague on the other hand has shined at Tumbra whenever he received the opportunity to do so. Wague is a classic finisher and rarely misses the goal. Following Cust's retirement, 23 year old Kehr has been regarded as the "future Cust". A great dribbler and a possessor of a wide variety of moves, Kehr has become a young sensation in Brookstation and earned a transfer to Rutland Dockside. Onfroy is the player whom the fans want on the field due to the wide range of tricks he possesses and more importantly due to his ability to pull them off confidently. Two reserve strikers, Weasley and Poe will also be part of the Brook team. Both the young strikers have shown their potential in the past and deserved a position in the team.

SQUADRA NAZIONALE DI JUVENCUS

Image

Information about Juvencus:
Capital: Pomena
Population: 130,656,702 ethnic Juven, with a total of 150,048,720 including naturalised immigrants.
Demonym: Juven
Country Code: JUE
Football Association: JFA(Juven Football Association)
Nicknames: Gli attaccanti(The attackers), La squadra(The team)
Football philosophy: At this point, to play football in Juvencus you need to understand that no matter who you are, pushing forward is the MOST essential core value you can bring in your game. Both strikers and defenders alike are equally likely to strike from any range at any time. Defense is not neglected, but is not as valued as being a scary goalscorer up front.

Starting XI:

GK:Juan Carlos Ungaro(Age 24)(U.S Scudelli)
Description: Taddeo Bulgari's retirement from international football has basically paved the way for Juan Carlos Ungaro to showcase his goalkeeping abilities on the big stage as la squadra's main goalkeeper. A positionally adept goalkeeper with a keen eye and focus on the game and with fast reflexes to top it all off. He is the perfect goalkeeper to sustain many oppositional attacks when it matters most.

CB:Carlo Callejon(Age 27)(Brattleboro FCImage)(Second Captain)
Description: Callejon was dropped off by Chromatik club Wirr Tsi on their quest to strengthen their squad. This ungrateful behavior by the club has spited Carlo Callejon who is essentially at his peak. He is quick, and while hot-headed manages to at least keep his composure when he is pocketing strikers of all shaped and sizes. He possesses an accurate tackle and will rarely, if ever, get carded for that. He is also a leading presence in the pitch and is rumored to take over the lead from Martell as soon as his time is over.

CB:Pau Puig(Age 24)(AC Serone)
Description: Puig is a giant flesh wall to get through, while slow, he tends to position right and is impossible to dribble past. Other than that, he is also able to keep his teammates in check when it really matters and is very football-smart. He is also the defence's only reliable aerial duel winner, winning most, if not all aerial duels he participates in.

CB:Izotz Ibarra(Age 34)(AC Pomena)
Description: Ibarra is no player to quit, he is still a strong positioned player and has an infamous crossing ability that few Juven players possess. Age might be creeping onto him but most of the time he will still perform as if he is in his peak years. He is still the main mentor for the younger defenders that he has bonded with over the years.

CDM:Josefina Portieri(Age 24)(TihonImage)
Description: Josefina Portieri is a classic example of an accurate Juven passer and strong long distance shooter, traits that give her a commanding presence on the pitch. She is a player that can quickly change the tide of the game if given enough space, either by a surprise through-ball or even a goal out of nowhere. She is also a very technical player, with exceptional dribbling ability and is great at carrying the ball forward.

CDM:Pierre-Didier Kouyaté(Age 27)(U.S Scudelli)
Description: The half-Banijan mastermind of the team, Kouyaté has always been dubbed as the successor of Russo when it comes to his playstyle. Much like him, he might dictate the speed and pace of la squadra's play, with an excellent vision and brilliant passing ability to show for it, which contributes to the high amount of assists he provides. He can also fulfill the duties of a supplementary defender, as he possesses iron lungs and can move freely all around the pitch.

RM:Júlien Cantù(Age 32)(Dhun Lagarr FCImage)
Description: Cantù has always been the orchistrator of right wing offenses, an accurate passer and pretty decent dribbler, he sticks to the sidelines most of the time. Might give that cheeky unexpected assist from out of nowhere and is also a very keen goalscorer, especially from mid-range since he has a very odd shooting technique that gives any ball that jabulani(stole that from RLStates, ha) effect.

LM:Michelangelo Santini(Age 29)(Dhun Lagarr FCImage)
Description: Santini is the fastest sprinter on the pitch. That is not his only trait, however as his speed usually gives him a lot of space to work with and organise multiple attacks from the sides, with a lot of volleys and crosses coming from his part to provide for a lot of goals that the team is meant to score.

LF:Joaquim Martell(Age 38)(Ausharmuj MarusiImage)(Captain)
Description: This man has gotten old, but for some reason his touch is still golden. That left foot can score any kind of goal from any side of the pitch, he can provide assists, he is still the most terrifying Juven presence on the pitch and for some reason he does not seem to be slowing down, despite his age, being fast and agile still. Expect a lot of goal participations from the player who could perhaps be the most legendary in Juven history and one of the most underrated players of all time.

RF:Joao Pereyra(Age 25)(BrinemouthImage)
Description: A technical player, with the ball always stuck on his feet no matter how many people you dump on him. Once given the space, his finishing could be considered one of the most clinical in the team. While he also does not shy away from providing tons of assists for his teammates, since his dribbling ability also gives him a lot of space to work with. He was a starter for Brinemouth's squad in their Associations' Trophy victory, and with his mentality through the roof, he will be a main man for this time.

CF:Julio Campana(Age 24)(New Lakeland Soccer ClubImage)
Description: Julio Campana comes from a line of goalscorers. A strong right foot, he usually scores rockets when it comes to scoring from long distance and usually prefers to use his weaker left foot for chips and close-range shooting, for extra efficacy. He has a devastating header with a high goal percentage which is owed to the fact that his explosive jumps make him perfect for winning aerial duels. He had a monster season in Cassadaigua, crushing every single opponent and hogging pretty much every single award available to him.

Main Substitutions:

GK:Sócrates Wright(Age 22)(AC Pomena)
Description: Wright might be a surprise entry in this list. But fret not as he possess undeniably the best vision out of any goalkeeper in the Campionato and managed to save the AC Pomena side from multiple embarrassments with his excellent leaps and heroics. He is a clutch goalkeeper and perfect for saving penalties.

CB:Lucia Agnelli(Age 23)(Victoriaville CityImage)
Description: Positionally adept with great tackling ability. Lucia Agnelli has all that is required of a Juven defender. Due to her small stature and short gravity center, she is also able to attempt risky dribbles on the defensive side with a high success rating.

CB:Carlos Coste(Age 23)(Glenmount TownImage)
Description: Coste has an eagle eye, with a good crossing ability. Aside from that he is very focused in the game and possesses highly accurate passing that is useful for fast counter-attacks.

CDM:Giuseppe Conte(Age 25)(AC Serone)
Description: Giuseppe Conte is not the flashiest player in the team, however he possesses a high effectiveness level in regards to his crossing ability as well as a sickening ball handling technique that makes it hard to get the ball away from him.

CDM:Félix Sissoko(Age 24)(Kingston FCImage)
Description: When in need, call Sissoko. Sissoko can instigate attacks out of thin air with a simple cross, or just a pass. His vision allows him to be always updated on the game. Though not particularly endurant, he makes up for it by being put in his place and playing his game. He is also lucky enough to have a slightly better chemistry with his squadmates than other players, no matter the enviroment.

RM:Chimo Quaranta(Age 26)(AC Serone)
Description: Chimo Quaranta is the definition of speed and intelligence, a mirror of Santini, yet probably slightly more intelligent with the ball on his feet and instead of being a faithful crosser, he prefers to keep the ball low while crossing on occassion, with high levels of success.

RM:Simon Oliveira(Age 24)(AC CuttiImage)
Description: Simon Oliveira is very much a nuisance to play against, a swift dribbler, excellent passer with a high chance of raining long-distance attempts at a goal or assist, the Osci side's prospect has potential only few players could ever have. Lots of rumors see him returning to the Campionato for a chance at glory, however he is also keen on the improvement of his -formerly- native Oscioru.

LM:Lucien Cavallo(Age 27)(AC Pomena)
Description: AC Pomena's midfield maestro, Cavallo is a flexible midfielder, often times switching sides in the midfield in an attempt to find the perfect position to orchistrate an organised attack, with some surprise elements and it works a lot of the time. While not directly scoring or assisting much, his input is of utmost importance as he starts a number of frontline offensives which lead to goals.

LM:Carla Acquati(Age 23)(AC CuttiImage)
Description: Carla Acquati is an expert at making the long game. She is speedy, yet she also has the stamina of a marathon sprinter, players going up against her have been reported to fall on the ground. She was pivotal in AC Cutti's double.

LF:Edu Coste(Age 24)(AC Pomena)
Description: Coste has a specific dribble that is predictable, yet impossible to stop no matter what you do. What he will do is go to the far left corner, cut in to the open space, use his speed to dribble through the defenders and score a magnificent goal with his incredible finishing ability.

LF:Ganymede Garcia(Age 24)(MipojoseonImage)
Description: Garcia is a big game player right off the bat, he will score that one random header or tap-in when you least expect it, however he is a clinical finisher regardless. With traits like that, he is perhaps the team's only remaining poacher up front, despite his winger status.

RF:Patxi Etxeberria(Age 33)(AC Pomena)
Description: Etxerberria has decided to give some playing time to the younger generationby stepping down and becoming a substitution, so that there is more fluidity up front. That should not fool you however as he is still a dangerous player to play against and his numbers in the Campionato as well as international club competitions show for it.

RF:Gilberto Soares(Age 25)(U.S Scudelli)
Description: Though normally a deadly striker, Gilberto Soares possesses explosive speed which allows him to be dangerous out of dead air, which is a very critical trait for a winger and a player who could just not be left out of the team. He also possess cat-like leaps that allow him to jump high in the air, giving him an advantadge in headers.

CF:Giordano Limene(Age 28)(Garden CityImage)
Description: Limene is on fire, an unstoppable attacking machine that keeps on scoring and scoring with every given opportunity. Despite a long waiting time for his engines to start, when they do start, they do not stop no matter how many walls will be put on that defensive line. An innate ability for curved shots, it is very hard for any goalkeeper to stand a chance against him. He has been unstoppable in the Flavovespian league, bringing terror to the sides he has played against.

CF:Benedikto Urruchi(Age 25)(Gehrenna FCImage)
Description: If not for the generational talent of Campana, he would be the main striker for the team for years to come, he will be his scariest competition however. He is a clinical finisher, able to use both feet with high efficacy and is also incredibly fast. There is no way to stop him other than to foul him endlessly. He is also a penalty and free kick specialist, with a high conversion rate for both.

Reserves:

Roster comments: While a good squad on paper, choking against ALL higher-ranked squads was something that shocked many, as gli attaccanti is used to be taking 3-pointers from random higher-ranked squads pretty much every single cycle, especially close in proximity of rank. Other than that, finishing in the middle of the table while having the best attack in the group is simply inexcusable. The late-coming invitation to the Cup of Harmony has given the team a new direction, although it comes with a sense of just being a filler team in the competition. As such, mentally the players might be out of it even if their football will show otherwise. This is still a talented team but the transition times are over, it is time to improve now or else Dudu Madeiros' spot at the top of the helm will be in serious risk.

Il Nuovo Stadio Olimpico della Pomena, Pomena(Capacity: 137,000)
Image

The team will be returning to its initial home, the stadio Olimpico in Pomena, a state of the art and gargantuan stadium, it hosts the games of AC Pomena in the league as well as the Copa di Juvencus final. It has all sorts of amenities in and out of it from shops, to vendors, lounges as well as everything else one can put on their mind.

The stadium of the capital has a different vibe from the previous Vinceti Catedral, all this colorful vibrance suddenly turns into an intimidating atmosphere which accurately represents the deep history of the nation. The chants feel a lot like a call to arms, ready to strengthen the Juven players while drums rhythmically beat through the entirety of the game. If a goal is scored, the loudest screams are to be heard throught the entire city, every celebration starting from this place is an emotional, triumphant celebration, echoing through the nation. After hosting the 3rd place playoff of the Independent Associations Cup 16, it is a safe stadium to visit and the people in it will try to carry on the legacy.

Located on the legendary Taranta Quartier of Pomena, it is in a central position not too far away from the city center and it is easily accessible by any means necessary, such as by train(being near the Taranta, Antelope and Vittoria stations), by bus, or by car.

JD – Richard VALENS - Manager – Image

Team

Playing in the following formation: GK | DL DC DC DR | MC MC MC | SC SC SC

The first player(s) named in each area of the team start the game. Our line-up will broadly be as follows (unless you RP one of our players has an injury or something):

GK: Softstep
DsL-R: Sandman, Willingham[/i], D'Entro[/i], Featherborn
MCs: Mikkels, Walker, Lewis
SCs: Builder, Clearedway, Gibson

Further information on the players is below if it is required and/or of interest.

Number, Name, Position, Age, Place of Birth, Club
All players male (He/Him) unless specified
Goalkeepers - 3

13 – Leora SOFTSTEP - GK – 23 – Cerrston, Juniper Island Image – Juniper Mournhow F.C. Image
She/Her
Leora's place of birth is noted as Cerrston, when in fact she was born on one of the ships carrying Bostopians to their new home in the Ochres. That it happened to dock in Cerrston, where her family settled, was just luck. Her parents chose a new surname after watching their child take her first furtitive steps outside, wanting to ditch their old Bostopian name. While there is some doubts over her ability to play as an international goalkeeper, her ability to read the game makes up for a lack of height (comparative to other top-flight goalkeepers at least) and fans joke that it seems she knows where the ball will go before the striker does.

1 - Louis WILSON - GK – 30 – Fort Boston Image – Cottsworth City Image

12 - Eric BIRDTENDER - GK – 22 – Nuntsby, Handsby Island Image – Bellflower A.U. Image
Birdtender is Bellflower A.U.'s current number two goalkeeper, but has impressed in cup games (which he regularly starts) enough to make the national side. His parents were fundamental in the study of native species in the Ochres, and his surname was later chosen to reflect this.
Defenders - 7
15 - Harry SANDMAN – DL – 20 – Slipsway, Chaffinch Island Image – Slipsway Town F.C. Image
The youngest member of the squad, only just turning 16 in time for the first qualifying game, Harry Sandman is the first player in any Ochre national squad to be born on Chaffinch Island. Adopting his surname from his love of running on the beach, he tends to be more of a sweeper than a proper centre half, being able to quickly take care of opponents passes into the box before they cause too much harm. His pace and stamina also allows him to play as a makeshift right wing-back, but his crosses come across as clearances more often than not.
4 – Jordan WILLINGHAM – DC – 30 – Bassingdale Image – Nuntsby City Image
2 - Louis D'ENTRO - DC – 23 – Bellflower, Mournhow Island Image – Cottsworth City Image
Louis was born in what was known then as 'New Ranton', which was the name of the capital of the Bostopian Ochre Islands prior to independence. He is one of the better players in Cottsworth's side, who are regular title contenders in the Ochre League Division One.
16 - Lucy FEATHERBORN- DR – 21 – City of Louisa, Hope Island Image – Schemerdrecht SVV Image
She/Her

Featherborn currently plies her trade at right-back for Schemerdrecht SVV, having left her hometown team Louisa Hope F.C. for the Ko-oren side. Complaints from journalists that she could have gone to a team 'easier to spell quickly' exist though are simply batted away as 'whinging'. Pacy and versatile, she is more likely to try and beat her opponent with the ball at her feet rather than pass around them. She already displays a range of passing that could see her propelled into the midfield, whether on the wing or in the middle should her development continue at the pace it is.
3 - Taylor BARRETT - DL – 32 – Norteaton Image – Lansdorn Image
5 - Leonard BURKE – DR – 35 – Glenrock - Image – Juniper Monnstair Image
6 – Arto NEWCOMER - DC – 26 – Lander's Port, Mournhow Island Image – Nottshore Turquoise F.C. Image
Arto Newcomer was born mere days after the first ships began arriving in the Ochre Islands from Bostopia. His parents immediately changed their – and his – family name on arrival in the islands, so his heritage beyond that is unknown. Arto, whilst young, is a regular feature in the back line of Nottshore Turquoise and integral to keeping them in the top division of Ochre football.

Midfielders - 8

11 - Joseph MIKKELS - MC – 26 – Hilltop Image – Lower Soffsley Image
14 - Carl WALKERCaptain - MC – 31 – Fort Boston Image – Lower Soffsley Image
8 - Harry LEWIS - MC – 25 – Port Flamerty Image – Nuntsby City Image
17 - Luke MATSON - MC – 30 – Jennaerton Image – Stangtons Image
18 - Bradley WATKINS - AMC – 33 – Rivdale Image – West Bellflower Image
15 - Mick BASING - DMC – 23 – Sennaton Image – Bellflower A.U. XI Image
20 - Pete READ - D/AMC – 31 – Flamerty Image – Cottsworth City Image

Strikers - 5
9 - Rory BUILDER - SC – 21 – Kollingdon, Handsby Island Image – Valesthorpe Image
Rory is the youngest of the Ochre-born players, having been born a mere day or two after his parents reached Kollingdon following their migration to the Ochres from Fenton State. Whilst still largely bench-warming for Valesthorpe, the national team can see his promise and are taking him to CAFA3 in the hopes of giving him international experience in low-pressure situations.
22 - Blue GIBSONVice-Captain - SC – 28 – Acorn Wood Image – Juniper Monnstair Image
She/Her
Blue Gibson is the first Bostopian-born female player to ever represent her country in an international football tournament. Whilst there have been female managers of the Bostopian national team, Blue was seen as a 'once-in-a-lifetime' footballing talent that the OIFA could find no reason, legally or otherwise, to exclude her from the national team. It was her second goal of the CAFA final which had sealed the Ochres 3 – 1 win over Saltstead with 3 minutes remaining of the 90. Blue also scored the winning goal to send the Ochre Islands to the World Cup finals for the first time.
7 - Copse CLEAREDWAY - SC – 23 – Callais, Jensee Island Image – Slipsway Town Image
Copse Clearedway was born in Callais, which is on one of the smaller Ochre Islands of Jensee. He is first-choice striker for Slipsway Town, a mid-table side in the first division of domestic Ochre football. However for the Ochre national team, he is more likely to be played in the hole between attack and midfielder to give us a significant threat just outside the area, as well as knowing where a striker would want a ball playing to them.
10 - George HOLLAND - SC – 34 – Rinstad Image – Flanminster Abbey Image
19 – Carl-James (C.J.) LUCKSMITH - SC – 21 – Hannston, Jensee Island Image – Lionsville Transport Sports Club Image
Despite playing for a smaller Ochre side, sitting in the 4th tier of the football league, C.J. has excelled and proven himself at a high level thanks to helpful cup draws against much better teams projecting his abilities on the national stage. While football at the lower levels is a bit more rough and ready than the higher divisions, he has always been able to hold his own against strong defenders despite his young age, and their willingness to let him know they're there.
21 - Joseph MORRIS - SC – 32 – Hilltop Image – Stangtons XI Image

Kits & Logo

Home, Away and Third

ImageImageImage

The Ochre Islands kits were designed and manufactured by OchreSport, with input from the Ochre Islands Football Association.
Following the abysmal CAFA3 campaign, the home kit removes all gold references and goes back to the traditional striped ochre and blue ochre scheme, with white trim.
The away kit is a contiuation of the popular 'Anaiaway' theme promoted by the OIFA, which they say 'promotes peace & harmony and reminds us that whilst we may be in an away kit, the Anaia region is still our home'.
The third kit is a colour combination of the two ochre colours, resulting in an earthy brown colour reminiscent of some of the home soil players and fans may tend to in their spare time.

Before CAFA 2, the Ochre Islands Football Association ran a competition to design the team's logo, which was won by a 34 year old man with neither design experience or taste. Fortunately, an update of the design to account for taste was commissioned and outsourced by the OIFA, which is as below. The badge prominently features a 'little mint green hat', which actually commerorates the Ochre Islands victory in the second CAFA tournament.

Image

The Ochre Islands play a possession-based style of football which aims to prevent the opposition from scoring by simply not letting them have the ball. While we will prefer safer passes, the players generally have a good sense of when a chance is 'on' and will play balls with added risk involved where necessary.

The Adabian National Football Team

I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

-Alfred, Lord Tennyson, "In Memoriam A. H. H."

Demonym: Adabian (plural Adabians)
Association: Adab Football Association (AFA)

BACKGROUND
The big news before the start of this cycle was the retirement of Yousif Issou from the national team, which effectively catapulted Sarrugi Akshak into the starting lineup. However, despite what many expected, that would be the only retirement this cycle. Ephraim Orlev, at 41, was widely tipped to call it a day but surprisingly no announcement to that effect came. When the official line-up was released, his name was still on it. This is not the calamity that some are making it out to be; while Orlev is quite obviously on the decline, he is already being rotated with Amara Emmita anyway, an arrangement seen by some as a gradual phasing-out. The other 41-year-old, the seemingly immortal Enlilbani Yargab, is also subject of retirement rumors but is still in much better shape than Orlev, even if his agility has declined and he is increasingly leaving the goalscoring to his younger teammates such as Kastiliasu Akaptaha, Rebekah Yissakar, and Nadje Barzani. On the managerial front, Saad Kaykali confirmed that he still intends to go on. “Maybe not for too many more years,” he said, “but I still have the energy and the desire to take this team to greater heights.”

KIT
Image

The national team's kits, designed by Ahmad Enlil (the first President of the Football Association) in 1907, are currently manufactured by Shining Sun Company, owned by Rahman Ashurbanipal, businessman and grandson of Emperor Tizqar III.

STAFF
Manager: Saad KAYKALI - Male – born January 20, 1974 (age 67)
At the peak of his power and popularity following Adab’s recent success on the international stage, some around Saad Kaykali have nevertheless noticed that the manager appears tired and worn out at times, which is not very surprising considering everything that has happened around him. But the idea of retirement has not been floated, at least not publicly. Kaykali insists he is “more than ready and excited to help carry this team forward and achieve even greater success”.

Assistant manager: Rashid ABBAS - Male – born February 15, 1987 (age 54)
Formerly a star player in the island country of Faraby, now an associated state of Adab, Abbas now finally finds himself sole assistant manager to Saad Kaykali. He is determined to do his best in this capacity, all the while refusing to discuss rumors that he has greater aspirations. Currently also manager of the under-21 team.

General coach: Yitzhak BENNETT - Male – born September 20, 1976 (age 64)
Variously described as quiet, active, calm, and attentive, Bennett is very much respected by the players, who admire his work ethic, loyalty to the national team, and willingness to listen to them.

Goalkeeping coach: Faishal AR-RASHID - Male – born August 14, 1978 (age 62)
Regarded, much like Bennett, as a stabilizing influence in the national team and respected by staff and players alike.

Physio: Hamza RIDHA - Male – born January 15, 1983 (age 58)
A longtime friend of Kaykali. Widely respected by fellow staff and players for the understated way by which he performs his job.

PLAYERS
Note: I may reveal the starting lineup and substitutes for the next match(es) in my RPs. Should I not RP or should my RP not contain any information regarding the starting lineup and substitutes, then feel free to decide my lineup. Also feel free to make substitutions. (As a rule of thumb, the first 11 players listed here are the usual starters, but this is not always the case.)

GK: 1 – Satchit CHANDRASEKAR – Male – born February 7, 2015 (age 26) – Colonial Sile (Vilita) – 0 goals
Chandrasekar has now firmly established himself as Adab’s best keeper and, if everything goes right, looks set to retain that status for many years to come. His calm, steady demeanor serves him well as the last line of defense against the team’s opponents.

LB: 2 – Tansu ALTUN - Female – born February 25, 2009 (age 32) - Mosul - 0 goals
Fondly called the "heart of the squad" by her teammates. Kind, polite, smiling, beautiful inside and out, she gets along easily with all the staff and players. Yet her soft exterior hides a hard, relentless, unyielding side to her, which shines through every time she is called to perform on the pitch.

CB: 3 – Shania ENMERKAR - Female – born January 20, 2008 (age 33) - Baghdad City - 3 goals (Vice Captain)
Widely seen as one of the leaders of the “female wave” in Adabian football, observers nevertheless agree that Enmerkar has earned her place in the team by merit, rather than merely by virtue of her gender. The other female players in the squad look up to her as their leader and spokeswoman, and it is she who often goes to Kaykali to communicate the women’s concerns and opinions.

CB: 15 – Sarrugi AKSHAK – Male – born May 29, 2016 (age 25) – Lonngeylin Coast (Vilita) – 0 goals
Made headlines with his unexpected transfer to the Vilitan League, although he has more than proven himself as a capable defender at the Under-18 and Under-21 World Cups. Now Yousif Issou’s international retirement has guaranteed him a place in the starting lineup and he is more than determined to impress.

RB: 5 – Sally THOMAS – Female – born October 5, 2015 (age 25) – Beirut – 0 goals
An instrumental member of the Di Bradini Cup 51 squad, Thomas’ continued good performance with Beirut in the Premier League has earned her an upgrade from the benches to the starting lineup in the national team.

LM: 6 – Emma ARTHUR - Female – born November 18, 2012 (age 28) - Tihon (Chromatika) - 8 goals
A representative of the Anglo-Adabian community, the second-youngest member of the squad. Widely seen as a young prodigy before maturing into one of Adab’s best midfielders. Estranged from her family, traumatized and haunted by what had happened to her and Alulim Sinmuballit, she picked herself up and has impressed many with her performance with Tihon in Chromatika.

CM: 7 – Alulim SINMUBALLIT - Male – born September 15, 2013 (age 27) – Mipojoseon (Quebec and Shingoryeo) - 4 goals
The erstwhile baby prodigy of the squad is back, older and much-changed from those halcyon days when he and Emma Arthur were lighting up the midfield and causing controversy with their interfaith relationship off the pitch. Since then… a lot have changed, to put it lightly, but one thing is certain: Sinmuballit is determined to prove he still has a place in the national team.

RM: 8 – Ephraim ORLEV - Male – born April 18, 1999 (age 42) – Mosul – 8 goals
Contrary to expectations, no retirement announcement was forthcoming from Orlev. Still, many expect this Cup of Harmony to be the wily old midfielder’s final tournament. That he is already slowing down is obvious, punctuated by the fact that he is now increasingly rotated with Amara Emmita. But on his good days he is still one of the country’s best – and toughest, not to mention most experienced – midfielders, and his presence is highly valued in the locker room.

LAM/LW: 22 – Kastiliasu AKAPTAHA – Male – born March 27, 2014 (age 27) – Baghdad City – 65 goals
Already widely acclaimed as one of the finest strikers in Adabian football, Akaptaha is expected to lead the offense for many years to come, standing at the forefront the regeneration of the national team as the venerable Enlilbani Yargab enters his forties.

RAM/RW: 10 – Rebekah YISSAKAR - Female – born January 20, 2013 (age 28) - Adab United – 58 goals
Brash, funny, happy-go-lucky, all those words have been used to describe Rebekah Yissakar, but do not let her bubbly, excitable personality distract you from the fact that she is one of Adabian football’s best talents, with a deadly finishing touch that secured her a place at the front three along with the great Enlilbani Yargab and the energetic Kastiliasu Akaptaha.

CF: 11 – Enlilbani YARGAB - Male – born April 21, 1999 (age 42) - Baghdad City – 144 goals (Captain)
Although Yargab remains a dangerous presence, many believe that the last World Cup saw the first major decline in his agility; the older striker played fewer minutes than in previous tournaments before being replaced by Nadje Barzani and the goalscoring burden was increasingly shouldered by Akaptaha, Yissakar, and Barzani. With Akaptaha now deployed on the wing, Kaykali is expected to increasingly rotate Yargab and Barzani or play Barzani for entire matches and rest the older stalwart; Yargab understands that the younger players such as Akaptaha and Barzani adapt more easily to the gegenpressing tactics. That Yargab is no longer the lone, deadly goalscoring threat that he used to be is obvious. On the other hand, he does seem to have found second wind as a playmaker and false nine (or rather, eleven), advancing the ball and creating chances with his vision while leaving the final touch to the younger players.

GK: 12 – Akurgal SHULGI – Male – born May 15, 2017 (age 24) – Damascus Steelers – 0 goals
Formidable young keeper whose adept, acrobatic defending dragged Adab to the final of the 14th Under-18 World Cup in Xanneria and Starcom.

LB: 13 – Adnan AL-TIKRITI – Male – born July 20, 2015 (age 25) – Damascus Steelers – 0 goals
Dogged defender who brought Adab to the final of the Di Bradini Cup 51. Flies under the radar publicity-wise but prefers to let his achievements on the pitch speak for themselves.

CB: 4 – George HADAD – Male – born February 14, 2005 (age 36) – Assur – 2 goals
Assur’s impressive performance in the Premier League lately has earned its loyal center-back a call-up to the national team, which just a few years ago no one – including the man himself – would have expected. But Hadad is nonetheless glad for this new experience so late into his career, even if he doesn’t see himself being played that much.

RB: 16 – Nadia AL-MALIKI – Female – born October 15, 2011 (age 29) – Baghdad United – 0 goals
Baghdad United’s surprisingly strong performance in the Premier League earned her a call-up to the national team. Al-Maliki’s composure in defense has been widely praised and regarded as an instrumental part in United’s unexpected domestic success.

LM: 17 – Said ANWAR – Male – born April 5, 2014 (age 27) – Beirut – 0 goals
A highlight of Beirut’s rise to the top of the Premier League, Said has now earned himself a call-up to the national team. While he is unlikely to displace Emma Arthur in the pecking order, his presence nevertheless provides a reliable backup should it become necessary for Arthur to be substituted or rotated.

CM: 18 – Naram-Sin SAMANU – Male – born March 29, 2018 (age 23) – Baghdad United – 3 goals
Commands a huge presence at midfield, especially for his age. Alulim Sinmuballit’s return has relegated Samanu once again to the benches, but he already put on an impressive performance in the last World Cup, and it seems likely there will be competition between him and Sinmuballit for the central midfielder position.

RM: 19 – Amara EMMITA – Female – born January 19, 2016 (age 25) – Baghdad United – 3 goals
Easily runs circles around her opponents with her slick, graceful style of play. Widely considered as a potential replacement for Ephraim Orlev in the starting lineup upon his retirement. With Orlev now in his forties, Emmita is expected to feature in more matches, either as a starter or (most likely) a second-half substitute.

LAM/LW: 20 – Dasia KHOURY – Female – born September 15, 2017 (age 24) – Baghdad City – 0 goals
One of Adab’s breakout stars from the Di Bradini Cup 53, Khoury has settled into a starting role at Baghdad City, playing a key part as the great team tries to restore themselves back to the top of the Adabian football world. Her performance continues to impress, convincing Kaykali to call her up to the senior national team.

RAM/RW: 21 – Abdullah SARSUR – Male – born June 11, 2007 (age 33) – Yerushalayim – 0 goals
Yerushalayim’s rise to the upper echelons of the league has brought attention upon its right attacking midfielder/winger Abdullah Sarsur. Brave, unrelenting, and tricky at times, he will provide a reliable addition to the national team.

RAM/RW: 25 – Omar ABBAS – Male – born January 15, 2008 (age 23) – Mosul – 0 goals
Like Khoury he is one of Adab’s players from the Di Bradini Cup 53 that stood out the most, earning legions of fans with his speed and deadly accurate crosses, exuberant attitude on and off the pitch, and unstinting commitment to his profession.

LAM/LW: 9 – Hakim AL-AMIN - Male – born March 27, 2009 (age 32) - Damascus Steelers – 7 goals
With Jushur al-Kufa bowing out of the national team, his Damascus Steelers teammate Hakim al-Amin has been chosen to take his place – albeit it is usually a place on the benches. Al-Amin is one of Adabian football’s best strikers, gaining acclaim for his power, agility, finishing, and calmness under pressure. Everyone agrees he would have found a place in the starting lineup had it not been for the fact that the national team is already overfilled with younger talent at the front.

CF: 23 – Nadje BARZANI – Female – born March 14, 2017 (age 24) – Beirut – 27 goals
Barzani has made a name for herself as one of the Premier League’s best players and one of its most explosive forwards, alongside Kastiliasu Akaptaha, and is starting to make an impact in the national team in a rotation with the seemingly ageless Enlilbani Yargab. But time waits for no one, and as Yargab rapidly approaches his fortieth birthday the indication seems to be that Barzani will soon have her spot to herself.

STADIUM
Image

Adab City Stadium, the pride and joy of Adabian football, was completed in 1940. Located in the northern part of Adab City, the stadium was able to accommodate 40,000 people at the time of its opening. Renovations in 1978 made it an all-seater stadium and expanded its capacity to 55,350. Later it increased to 75,000 following upgrades in 2009-10 and then 76,500 after another upgrade in 2019. It is currently home to the Adabian national football team and Adab City FC.

TACTICS AND FORMATION
The team will use 4-3-2-1, the "Christmas tree" formation, with an emphasis on gegenpressing – immediately working to take back possession after losing the ball and launching a quick counterattack before the opponent can take the initiative. Any opposition players with the ball will find themselves swarmed and cut off quickly. The orientation towards gegenpressing has been offered as evidence of Rashid Abbas’ increasing influence as he seeks to modernize the team in his capacity as assistant manager.

Goalkeeper Satchit Chandrasekar has enjoyed a sudden and meteoric rise from under-21 keeper to first-choice senior team keeper. With Taymour Frangieh now retired, Shania Enmerkar finds herself leading the defense, her limitless energy and tenacity – which she has demonstrated both on and off the pitch – making her particularly suited for this role.

At midfield, Emma Arthur finds herself paired up once again with Alulim Sinmuballit. Their agility and teamwork allow them increased coverage of the pitch and domination of possession, which they skillfully use to quickly transfer the ball away from the opposing team and to the attacking trio of Kastiliasu Akaptaha, Rebekah Yissakar, and the great Enlilbani Yargab. At age 41, the country’s greatest player now largely avoids ostentatious displays of acrobatics and dribbling skills which marked his younger days in favor of simple runs towards the penalty box. In a further concession to his advancing age, Akaptaha, Yissakar, and Nadje Barzani are also gradually bearing more and more of the goalscoring burden, and it is expected that Yargab will be substituted or even not played at all from time to time in favor of Barzani. Yargab (or Barzani whenever she plays) will occasionally drop back to serve as a false nine, leaving a hole in the opposition defense to be exploited by the wingers and attacking midfielders.
