SAVIGLEGA SEASON 5

There are so many stories that we could tell you about the 180 matches that made up SavigLega Season 5. We could tell you about how L'Escarene managed one win in their final ten matches, turning a lower-midtable performance into complete disaster. We could tell you about the first year of the Lucas Allard experiment at Castiglione, where the ex-NSC manager made ten of his starting eleven slightly worse and young right-back Gianni Esposito much, much better. We could tell you about Saint-Adelin's first season without Corinne Lefevre, who opted for a new challenge in Bollonich - how despite major struggles, they managed to come back from down 4-0 to draw Villeneuve NSC and knock the big-money club out of the IFCF places. We could talk about the most Pietrargenta-y season yet from Pietrargenta, who scored fifteen goals in thirty-six fucking matches but still finished seventh on the strength of being absolutely awful to play against.

We could tell you about newly-promoted Mont-Basilique, who nobody even realized could stay up, finishing sixth (admittedly twenty points out of fifth, but it still counts). About how young striker Blaise Vuillermoz came out of nowhere to score fourteen of the team's thirty-three goals (he probably would've gotten on the Golden Boot podium if he took penalties) under the tutelage of the surprisingly good Anton Lemaitre. We could talk about Villeneuve NSC dropping a billion dollars in the transfer window, hiring a new manager, getting off to a surging start, and then finishing fifth and two points out of the IFCF places anyways. We could tell you about how Ricardo Grossi managed to turn around a floundering AS Villeneuve by believing in youth, saving a IFCF berth with four wins in their final five matches. We could tell you about Stade-Ferre Trinité, after losing the counterattacking Nicoletta Arnaudo and inexplicably hiring longtime rival and possession proponent Jean-Claude Boucher, having to completely reinvent their team on the fly and coming together anyways. But you don't care about any of that. You saw the first two names on the table, and you saw what happened MD36, and you knew that there was only one story worth talking about.

ARENA SAN AGNELLO
MD36
NAZIONALE ACQUI BOLLENTE v. AC ACQUI BOLLENTE

The second half has just begun in northwestern Acqui Bollente, and both sets of fans are restless. ACAB are undoubtedly in better position - they've come into the final match of the season needing only a draw to confirm their fourth league title in five seasons. On the sidelines, Andrea Spinelli appears comfortable, almost complacent - but underneath the cool exterior, the sophomore manager is fighting for his life, desperate to unlock Augusto Rinaldi's defense and begin another coronation. Rinaldi, meanwhile, continues to urge his players forward. They've already scored eighty-four goals, a stunning league-pacing mark for just thirty-five matches. Nazionale's manager cajoles them - they just need one more. The rest of the league is decided - Trinité and a Villeneuve club in the CC, L'Escarene going down, Mont-Basilique clinging to sixth. Seventh through ninth are still up in the air, but nobody gives a shit about that - the entire nation's eyes are on Acqui Bollente.

The rivalry between ACAB and Nazionale is one between brothers. But rarely are both teams this good at the same time - there is always a David and a Goliath when they play. This time, both teams fancy themselves the underdog at the hands of the global elite. Nazionale have lost young striker Rocco Rovira, midfield prospect Elia Grossi, and talented fullback Luca Cambiaso - the fourth young star fullback to leave Nazionale in a big-money move abroad in five years (Vitale, Romano, and Lamontagne coming before him). All these key losses have come from a side that barely scraped into the IFCF places - most pundits had them in the bottom half of the league. Rinaldi's was supposed to be a young team, a team in transition, caught between the very old and the very young. Instead, a hastily-assembled spine of timeless striker Francesco Grimaldi, midfielders Leon Solari and Natalia Fiore, center-backs Celina Blanco and Alessandro Acosta, and goalkeeper Narcisa Rousseau have become world-beaters. They just need one more goal, and the masterpiece will be complete. But they're still very much the younger brother on the night (in fact, Natalia Fiore and Celina Blanco are both younger siblings of former ACAB stars), and the San Agnello has an antsy energy around it.

Yet ACAB are hardly the behemoth of past years. Years of complacent management, combined with an inability to develop and retain young talent, have the dynasty on its last legs. Amara Vatrican remains steadfast as ever in midfield, but her partners are both gone - Pietro Giraudo's retirement has left ACAB shaky at the back, while a torn ACL in practice is the second-worst thing that has ever happened to Bianca Fiore. Worse still, the young saviors have all found greener pastures abroad - first Paolo Rinaldi with Gunzlach, then the once-in-a-generation Bonagiunta Rossi with Alnio. The ruthless capitalism of the modern transfer market have broken both team's dreams of an international dynasty - the only thing they have left is beating each other. The opening of the second half is defined by its bitterness - Vatrican and Acosta collide hard in midair, the latter having to be substituted out and the former earning a booking. Beleaguered ACAB striker Nicola Bareto, who Nazionale were hoping to replace the 38-year-old Francesco Grimaldi with, is jostled and booed relentlessly whenever he gets the ball, and at one point bottles are thrown at him.

Despite all of this, ACAB nearly break through first and seal the league when Vatrican finds Bareto with a speculative long pass. Bareto chests it down, sees both defenders coming, and slides it over to Eden Feliciano. Fifty thousand people hold their breath as Feliciano beats Celina Blanco to the ball and...can't get it out of his feet, Rousseau knocking it wide at the last second before screaming into the away stands. The goalkeeper goes long, the steel of Natalia Fiore winning a tough aerial duel before laying it off to the silk of Leon Solari, who scampers by two defenders and sends the ball through to...Francesco Grimaldi. The veteran striker summons every last bit of strength to run by the final ACAB defender - Giraudo would've stopped him - before firing past a stranded Camillo Notari. Nazionale one. ACAB nil. The last fifteen minutes are a fever dream. Half the city wills their team forwards, the other half is almost shell-shocked as they watch the end of an era.

Seconds before the final whistle blows, a clearly-drunk Nazionale fan locates and latches onto a camera. "It's fucking happening!" he bellows. It is, indeed, fucking happening. It's a small victory in the grand scheme of things - Blanco and Solari will eventually leave, Grimaldi will retire, Rinaldi will find himself drowning in job offers. But at least for this night, Acqui Bollente is Nazionale's city. And SavigLega is Nazionale's league.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

IFCF Council has decided to allow an additional 72 hours for participants to post roleplays of their domestic soccer results, as an exceptional measure in response to feedback from the community. Anyone who is roleplaying after the deadline must telegram IFCF when done to ensure we revisit their entry and give the appropriate credit. This is an exception which applies only to the upcoming 8th IFCF cycle. All roleplays must be posted and IFCF informed of them before September 22, 2021 at 11:59PM EDT (UTC -4).

To be clear, the deadline is unchanged from September 19, 2021 at 11:59 PM EDT (UTC-4), and participants in the previous cycle got a reminder telegram of this about 10 hours ago. This 72-hour extension applies only to the roleplaying that may accompany an entry. Domestic results and an entry can be generated in mere minutes, and certainty about the number of entrants is necessary for IFCF to build the access list in a timely manner.

We're all looking forward to IFCF 8 and hope to bring it to you without delay.

We take a look at the first point of call for the season after Matchday 5, with a variety of teams well under way to take the MULTIleague by storm. No team this season has managed a perfect record, with draws and losses among the teams at the top of the table.

Highlights from this first quarter include a clash of rivals Kurtz Herritik and Lehen Neorudo on Matchday 1, as the Origas Arena played host to the Old Guard in a tense match that saw goals from all sides. Heretics emerged the victor, however, after a last gasp goal in the 86th minute from one of Norrhem’s best - Salina Ekengren.

Century Mertagne boasted the biggest win of the season so far on Matchday 3, with a 4-0 victory over Signal Dannin in the first of the Dannin Derby matches. The senior side, Century, were able to take control of the game from the off, with star midfielder from Sharktail Azaim making key tackles to nullify the attack from The Pulse. Century started their scoring spree in earnest about 20 minutes in, when Rosah Tikfort slipped past Tyson Oughtio and scored by flicking the ball past keeper Emmanuel Brokt. The pressure on Signal Dannin was maintained across the rest of the first half, but no goals were scored, both keepers managing to stay on top of their game and block some impressive shots from both sides. The second half, however, saw Century Mertagne keeper Lennon Stroves have more mettle and stamina than his Signal Dannin counterpart, as Brokt failed to block three more goals, sealing the fate of Signal Dannin and ensuring that the stakes would be high on the rebound match when Century make the short hop to the Spectrum Stadium.

Keers Kannoneers stoked their rivalry with coastal chums Octosaide, losing a key game on Matchday 3 at the Keers Dock Pitch. The 1-2 loss was felt on the Keers side, particularly as they’re a more attacking oriented side and a single goal really isn’t their style. This loss is indicative of their wider season campaign, which has started off much worse than rival Octosaide’s, with the Kannoneers having a single win so far, gained on Matchday 1 against season stragglers Mondragons.

Scharfwick Flames tried their best against Blades de Bretsaar, who have had a tumultuous start to the season with a few wins and a few losses. Two goals a piece was enough for both sides in the first half at The Scabbard, both sets scored in lightning succession - two for Scharfwick within six minutes, and then two for BdB within four minutes about half an hour later. Fans who had left the Dock Pitch at the end of the first half, where the score was 2-2, were shocked after finding out the results at full time, however. This just goes to show you should always stick around at a Blades game, especially when Aetz Cerillo and Tanith Carter showed off a masterclass, with Cerillo positioning the ball brilliantly after a cross not once, not twice, but three times for Carter to smash it past the last line of defence and into the goal. Adelin Le Besco must have felt deja vu during that match, for sure, ruminating as BdB celebrated Carter’s hat-trick and their subsequent 5-2 win, their second win of the season.

FMFC Ninestar and Signal Dannin fought at the Nine Star Arch on Matchday 5, and the Pulse stole the three points from the home side with a brilliant hat trick from Bollonichian forward Linden Hayes, sealing the 3-0 win. MULTIleague One newcomers Scharfwick Flames took their second victory of the season over the giants of Century Mertagne on this Matchday as well, after a contentious corner was scored in the middle of the second half by the Flames. This 1-0 victory was sure to spurn the Flames on after their rocky yet surprising start to the season.

At this quarter stage, Kurtz Herritik stand (just) at the top of the table, with Century Mertagne and Lehen Neorudo following closely behind. Blades de Bretsaar look to move further up the table, but have been hampered thus far, on equal pegging with MULTIleague one greenhorns Scharfwick Flames, who have surpassed expectations. New Fligsive’s Memory, darlings of last season, have had a struggling start to this season, with several draws and a single win. Towards the bottom of the table, we find Keers Kannoneers, reeling after losses to rivals and draws to mid-table sides, and Mondragons, who haven’t managed to win a single game at this stage. Their one draw, however, is another of giant-slaying proportions, against Kurtz Herritik on Matchday 2. The scoreless draw at Mondragon City Stadium proves that even the biggest teams in the MULTIleague can face upset from some of the smaller ones.

At the halfway mark we’ve seen every team play each other at least once - and this has certainly made for some interesting matches. Octosaide played Mondragons at the Ring Tank Stadium on Matchday 6, and the suffering away side managed to claim their first victory of the season by a single goal, 1-0, scored by Skyan Davri’s tight-knit bunned hair. The victory was a much needed tonic for Mondragons, who have been marred by woe this season, yet are still fighting hard to avoid relegation to the MUILTIleague’s second division.

Matchday 8 saw two explosive matches played, as Papillio Mertagen took New Fligsive’s Memory to a solid win 3-0 at Il Tendone. Papillio Mertagne’s celerity shone here, as they dominated possession and moved clearly away from the Custodians’ hectic centre line, concentrating play in the attacking third which led to some brilliant finishes from the Campers. On that same matchday, Century Mertagne continued their spate of good luck with a win against Lehen Neorudo 4-1, in a clash between capitals that showed up the Old Guard. Krytenia’s Robert Wilson was working overtime, as Century had entered the game with an attacking mindset, after hearing news earlier in the week that Lehen Neorudo midfielder Marotine de Berthellemy of Oberour Ar Moro wouldn’t be playing due to an injury. Ojilein Krennt, taskmaster that he is, told journalists in response to the news that his squad would be ‘taking no prisoners’ in the game, and none were taken with Century’s solid win.

Matchday 9, however, came and tore up the season with some smashing games. The most prolific of which was the game between Keers Kannoneers and Signal Dannin, which saw ten (10) goals scored in a match that caused a last-minute extension to be added to the Keers Dock Pitch electronic scoreboard. Kannoneers are known well in the MULTIleague for their attacking style, but not even Keers manager Jim Brishwell could predict that the side would score seven goals in their ninety minutes against Signal Dannin. Benn Shakletinn was responsible for four of them, with the other three coming from Anaïs Anaïs Duplessis, Evalyn Triggs, and Tedorow Noske across the match. Signal Dannin tactically decided to substitute goalkeepers twice, but this move appeared to be an error as the true breakdown of the squad came in the defence, which was easily trumped by Keers’ solid attack.

New Fligsive’s Memory caused an upset at the Flynn Ar3na on Matchday 9, as they squared up against an overconfident Blades de Bretsaar side and took three points from them. The final score of 4-2 was aided by a mangled pass from young Goneri Cazenauve that sailed past BdB goalkeeper Andrei Gauntlet and into the back of the net. The collective groan from the contingent of Bretsaar fans in New Fligsive was loud enough to rock the stadium, and Gauntlet was seen arguing with Cazenauve alone in the Flynn Ar3na car park later that evening. The relationship between the two was clearly strained, and Jackie Hylbert had a tough job over the next few days internally smoothing the situation with the players and externally smoothing the situation with hungry media personalities and journalists. This loss appeared to only be a blip, however, and Blades would go on to win every single game afterwards up until the halfway mark, shutting up any fan that wondered if this argument would affect team performance.

One matchday later on Matchday 10, FMFC Ninestar and Mondragons looked to court some fame with an even more explosive eleven (11) goal match that ended 6-5 for the home side, FMFC Ninestar. The nine large spotlights that adorn the Nine Star Arch’s titular arch have many uses; two of them during FMFC Ninestar home games is to spin and provide a light show whenever a team scores, and the second is to provide those living in the city of Webster with a live score graphic, with a number lights on opposing ends of the arch lit with the corresponding team’s home colour depending on how many goals they have scored. Of course, after nine goals this is untenable, and so when the 10th was scored, the lights reset to a pure brilliant white. Few teams have been able to ‘whiteout’ at the Nine Star Arch, so even though Mondragons ended up losing 6-5 to FMFC Ninestar, they still took home some prestige.

Matchday 10 also saw a bitter game between Century Mertagne and New Fligsive’s Memory, which saw several cards and a few injuries as a rainy day caused tensions to run high at Dannin City Stadium. New Fligsive’s Memory were given one major opportunity to score in the form of a penalty just after half time, but the rattling hostile atmosphere caused penalty taker Neville Cate to lead the ball over the crossbar and into the stands. The game, which had a staggering 4 red cards by its end, was seen as one of the toughest so far for both teams.

On Matchday 12, the 2nd leg of the Touchpoint Derby was resolved, as the Neorudo Cop Limy Stadium was abuzz with fans as Lehen Neorudo hosted Kurtz Herritk. It’s been said that, typically, whoever emerges the victor of the Touchpoint Derby will typically be the one that finishes higher in the table, and that’s certainly ringing true at the moment. The goalless 0-0 draw means that, this year, it’s the Heretics from Kurtz that can boast they’ve won the Touchpoint Derby, and at just over the halfway mark of the season, they sit two positions above Lehen Neorudo just three points shy of the top of the table.

Century Mertagne do top the table at this stage, however, with an equally impressive record to Kurtz Herritik’s over the last five games. Blades de Bretsaar are hot on the heels of Kurtz, however, trying to get a leg up over Lehen Neorudo who are down in 4th. New Fligsive’s Memory have floated back up to 5th, and in the last five games have come up slightly better than the teams around them, such as FMFC Ninestar and Signal Dannin. Scharfiwck Flames have slumped a little at this point, with not a single win in 5 games drawing them down to 10th, sitting between long time mid-table rivals Keers Kannoneers and Octosaide. Mondragons, who took their second win of the season over Scharfwick Flames on Matchday 11, are looking to leapfrog one of the coastal teams in their battle to stay clear of the bottom.

The third quarter of the Multileague continued to see some high-octane games. On Matchday 13, Blades de Bretsaar had their small winning streak shut down by Century Mertagne, in a 4-4 draw at Dannin City Stadium that saw the home fans get a bit overzealous and release a swarm of fireflies onto the pitch. TV onlookers were confused as to why the match was paused, as the small insects didn’t register on the cameras, but much confusion was also present on the pitch, with players seeing lights on player’s shirts and out of the corners of their eyes.

The Dannin Derby culminated in a hard-fought game at the Spectrum Stadium, as Signal Dannin held firm against Century Mertagne on Matchday 14. Here, the lights were firmly on the outside of the stadium, and Signal Dannin stood firm for over 60 minutes with a clean sheet. Ultimately, their sterling defence was broken by Century Midfielder Arron Vastel, which disrupted Signal’s morale and ultimately led to their undoing over the next half-hour. The final score of 3-4 to Century Mertagne was still something to be proud of, and that stalwart defence is something that Pulse manager Ayla Myrren will be looking to get out of the team every game in their next season.

Coastal frenemies Octosaide and Keers Kannoneers met at the Ring Tank stadium on the same matchday, and so both of Dannmarsh’s biggest settlements were alive with the fervour that a match against rivals brings. Octosaide were able to continue their puckered grip on Keers Kannoneers in their derby with a 2-0 win. Hana Stelos and Yuna Mizuhara-Inzaghi proved a potent pair in Octosaide’s defence, and the Kannoneers lacked any real chances to make a good run and score some goals. This game would turn out to make all the difference this quarter, as by the end of the third quarter Octosaide and Keers Kannoneers would be separated by two points, with near identical records over five games, only differing in this match.

Scharfwick Flames continued their stellar season with a second major upset, this one even better than their first. Matchday 16’s game against table toppers Century Mertagne ended in a 0-1 victory to Scharfwick at Dannin City Stadium, mirroring their 1-0 victory on Matchday 5 against Century at the New Brazier. If there was ever a bet to catch out time travellers, this sort of thing would be it - for newly promoted Scharfwick to beat last season’s champions not once, but twice - home and away. Mertagnian gambling websites BuccaneerBet reported that one person had in fact placed a bet on this result, with a combined 1000-1 odds for Scharfwick to win both games against Century Mertagne. That person owes their new-found riches to signing Elia Grossi from Savigliane, who saw a gap in Century’s positioning and capitalised on it to score the goal that won the match.

New Fligsive’s Memory turned their luck around properly on Matchday 17, with a 4-0 win against a Signal Dannin side that are increasingly looking like the fall guy. Signal Dannin, at this three-quarter stage, haven’t won a game in seven games, seeing most of their success coming from the earlier parts of the season. The game against the Custodians of the Flynn Ar3na was no different, as 4 goals whittled past Signal Dannin, much to the happiness of the home side.

At this three quarter stage with just five matchdays to go, the table is tied on points between Century Mertagne and Kurtz Herritik. Blades de Bretsaar are coming in close in third, after a recent spate of draws and wins has edged them slowly up the table alongside Lehen Neorudo, the former maintaining their single point lead over the latter. New Fligsive’s Memory came out of a slump into two wins in the last two matchdays, pulling them up to 5th, but closing the gap right behind is Octosaide in 6th and Keers Kannoneers in 7th. All the teams below Scharfwick Flames sadly haven’t won a single game in the last five, with Mondragons falling very shy down at the bottom with a lowly six points so far in the season. They’ll have to pull it out of the bag if they want to stay away from the relegation zone, hoping to leapfrog a team like Papillio Mertagne to survive.

The final games of the season have drawn to a close, and Papillio Mertagne in an attempt to save themselves from relegation engaged a higher gear and came back with some solid wins. The best of these happened on Matchday 19, where they beat back New Fligsive’s Memory at the Flynn Ar3na 1-0, with an absolutely screaming goal scored from nearly the halfway line that sailed over the numerous Custodian defenders and into the back of the net.

Matchday 21 saw Lehen Neorudo fall to giant slayers Scharfwick Flames, as the flames took the Old Guard down at the Cop Limy Stadium in front of a shocked crowd. The Scharfwick fans that had made the journey south to the Touchpoint capital were expecting a loss but a nice time in the metropolitan city, but instead were rewarded for their loyalty with a shock win that was the first item on many sport catch up shows in the week. Lehen Neorudo manager Sadie Tikrudo was quoted on regional breakfast television as saying that the result was “surprise to be sure, but just goes to show the level of talent from all teams in the MULTIleague''.

Our final matchday, Matchday 22, saw all the games played simultaneously, to ensure that nobody would know the results of any other games which may influence their play. The battle for the top, and thus IFCF play, was on between Kurtz Herritik, Century Mertagne, and Blades de Bretsaar. The former had snuck into first place the previous matchday, after Century dropped points to New Fligsive’s Memory in a grudge match that many of the Custodian’s fans saw as a fitting revenge for the events of Matchday 10, which saw two New Fligsive’s Memory players injured for weeks after. On this matchday, Kurtz managed to take an easy win against Signal Dannin at Spectrum Stadium, while across the city at Dannin City Stadium, Century Mertagne were pinging goals past visitors Octosaide.
Blades de Bretsaar, while they matched the intensity of scoring that the other top three teams had, were met with an equal intensity from Papillio Mertagne, and therefore were comfortably locked into third place. Lehen Neorudo were one team who were very safely locked into their 4th place spot, but their pride was damaged a little more as they lost 0-2 to Keers Kannoneers on the final matchday, bringing the latter slightly closer. The Old Guard’s fall from grace was, luckily for them, stymied before they fell out of the IFCF spots.

Further down the table, Mondragons’ fate was sealed in their last game against recently promoted Scharfwick Flames, continuing a spate of losses and ensuring that they would be heading down to MULTIleague 2. Mondragons recognised that they had had some issues in the season, and would be taking a look at their roster and their strategy to come back fighting next season, as seems to be the prevailing pattern for teams here.

Therefore, with these results, it will be Kurtz Herritik who will be gracing the IFCF Champions League with their presence, as well as battling it out in the CAFA LigAnaia - a chance they will relish after missing the opportunity last time. Joining them in the CAFA LigAnaia will be Century Mertagne FMFC, who will be looking forward to attempting a deeper run in the IFCF Challenger’s Cup this time, after being knocked out in the Playoff Round last time. Also joining in the IFCF Challengers Cup will be Lehen Neorudo and Blades de Bretsaar, who also qualified last season, and the two will be looking to get past the Extra Preliminary Round this time and show the multiverse what they’re capable of.

Blackave University 1 - 0 Horsehead United

SEMI FINALS:
FMFC Ninestar 2 - 2 Signal Dannin (2-4 AET)
Blades de Bretsaar 2 - 3 Blackave University

The quarter finals of the Birch Memorial Cup saw a tough shootout between FMFC Ninestar and Century Mertagne FMFC, as the Brand battled against the Lime hotness of Century Mertagne and drew them to penalties, Keers Kannoneers put in a goal-filled shift, but were just pipped by Signal Dannin over 90 minutes, and Blades de Bretsaar clashed against Lehen Neorudo, and proved dominant against the Old Guard. The Semi Finals, however, saw Blackave University, who had previously handily beat back Horsehead United, emerge the victor in a Blades v Blackave battle that saw Blackave University score from a free kick to clinch the win. Signal Dannin joined Blackave for a place in the final after edging ahead in a golden half hour of extra time that saw them score two goals to beat back the Brand and head to the Cop Limy for the final.
A thrilling cup culminated once again with the following score:
Signal Dannin 2 - 1 Blackave University

Signal Dannin were quick off the mark in this game, as Linden Hayes of Bollonich rattled a scorcher of a goal past young Blackave Goalkeeper Pirro Telford within the first five minutes. Play continued as both sides rallied for control of the game, with neither pulling ahead in terms of shots on target or possession until the end of the first half. A slightly more agile Blackave University came out of the gates in the second half, with a solid goal expertly dribbled then smacked by Blackave University forward David Bremmen. Signal were quick to respond, however, and just seven minutes after Bremmen’s goal, one was returned by the Pulse, this time unexpectedly from 27 year old Tikariotian Jack Carter, who found himself in the right place at the right time after an attacking corner from Signal Dannin went slightly wide. His good control of the ball and analytical eye found the perfect attack vector, scoring the goal that would allow Signal Dannin to take the lead and keep it until the final whistle blew and the Pulse were the winners of the illustrious trophy, unlocking their ascent to the Cup Winner’s Cup and the Vilitan Cove Invitational.

Mertagne (MRT) final site bids:
CAFA LigAnaia: Neorudo Cop Limy Stadium (capacity 96,300)
One of the heavyweight stadiums of the former COCANEFA LigAnaia, Neorudo's Cop Limy, the former Neorudo Olympic Stadium, has submitted a bid to host the final of the inaugural CAFA LigAnaia. Home to the original Mertagnian team that is Lehen Neorudo, and situated in the Docklands district adjacent to the mountain that comprises of the sprawling city's 'Old Quarter', The Cop Limy is the premier venue for sports matches and concerts alike in the city. Upgraded several times over the years, the Stadium stands as a stereotype of the city itself - old architecture (present in the fancy stonework adorning the stadium's left long side) fused with the latest buildings (a white carbon fiber donut covering the other three sides). The stadium boasts the best in electronic scoreboard technology, and has a long strip of interactive screens surrounding the top rafters of the interior, which have been used for purposes such as advertising, light shows, and close-up camera feeds.
Located in the stadium complex is a museum dedicated to Mertagnian football, which includes the preserved former offices of the FMF, including the very boardroom where the COCANEFA LigAnaia was born.

IFCF Champions League: Flynn Ar3na (capacity 88,750)
A project that could be considered the crucible of New Fligsive, Mertagne, the Flynn Ar3na (named as it is the third stadium to bear the name) was built as a multi-year construction project between regional construction giant Flynn’s, and the Mertagnian government. The Flynn Ar3na boasts a unique design that iterates on the design of its predecessor, the Flynn Arena in Fligsive, Euran Oceania Territories. This incarnation of the stadium has sacrificed some of its seats in order to incorporate a unique art section - where the old Flynn Arena’s upper ring would have been, here sits thousands of individually cast faceless metal statues, each inscribed with a names of Fligsivi civilians and combatants during the Corvidae War and associated Fligsive Incident. The unique acoustics that these metal statues cause in the upper ring creates a scintillating echoing effect when sound is broadcast from the top, which provides unique opportunities in this multi-purpose stadium, home to New Fligsive’s Memory.

IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy: Revolver Stadium (capacity 34,570)
Home to Krytenian inspired Mertagne side Six Star Cyanaes of the MULTIleague 2, in the city of Cyanaes, the Revolver Stadium is a wonderful open-air venue that has a distinctive 'bowl' shape, With two protruded sections coming off of the western end, making it look like a rounded 'A' from above. These protrusions host local businesses, offices and retail outlets, allowing you to enjoy leisure experiences all in one place. Mercia Plaza, which sits between the protrusions and welcomes guests to the stadium, is the perfect place to sit and relax before your game begins.

Nation: Image Talamia
Season: 2020-2021
Dates: 13 September 2020 - 2 May 2021
Number of teams: 14
Champions: Image Fortis Epops (30th title)
Relegated: Image Afestosja
Matches played: 182
Goals scored: 464 (2,64 per match)

The 2020-2021 Alfa League was the 119th edition of the Alfa League, the top professional Talamian football league. Alla Fofokoy were the defending champions, having won their twelfth league title the previous season. Fortis Epops secured the title at the last matchday, becoming the first Talamian club to win the Alfa League for 30 times. Fortis Epops returned to victory after two season, while Afestosja was relegated five years after their last second place.

The season ran from 13 September 2020 to 2 May 2021.

The games were all played on Sundays at 3:00 pm and broadcast by Pro Diorux Sports.

Events

Fourteen teams competed in the league – the top thirteen teams from the previous season and the winner of 2019-2020 Beta League, Saniis 1900.

With four teams each, the most represented regions were Mentrenalio (Clinepalas United, SF Lampride and Ptoco from the capital Clinepalas, and Alla Fofokoy) and Uperinde (Afestosja, Hellas Anen, Ighli and the newly promoted Saniis 1900). Crocora (Acroscope and FK Katacra) and Pento (KarpìStomà and PAS Geitorisma) counted two teams each, while Ulepops (Fortis Epops) and Epicesi (Epacra Delphis) had only one team to represent them. For the second cosecutive year, the Iseremia region found itself without a representative.

After previous year’s unexpected victory, Alla Fofokoy did not operate on the market, confirming the totality of the squad that brought the Archers their twelfth championship.

Continuing the re-foundation thanks to the funds of the new owner Tape Amilla, KarpìStomà invested in a new coach: Dunastratos Prosfato, the young man who two years ago led Ighli to victory in the Beta League and to the seventh place of last year. Prosfato was also assigned with more managerial tasks, with control over the scouting and the youth sector, for a new idea of team management.

On the other hand, Ighli’s president decided to sign Polemiste Kuon as the new coach of the team. This is Kuon’s second run as the coach of his hometown’s team, nineteen years after the first one.

Locations of the 2020-2021 Alfa League teams

After previous year's disastrous season, ended with a 13th place and the relegation play-offs win over NK Kornelius, the team that bought the most players was Acroscope. Of particular note is the arrival on a free transfer of Therapon Dermakros from PAS Geitorisma, who scored 13 goals in the season. The Lumberjacks, to compensate for the lack in attack, bought the young promising Bhexian forward Hakara Tipene, author of 14 goals. Clinepalas United and Fortis Epops both changed coaches, given their respective second and third places of last year.

After a season always played on an equal level between KarpìStomà, Clinepalas United, Alla Fofokoy and Fortis Epops, it was this last team that won its thirtieth title. The race for the third star was then won by the Studs of Fortis Epops. Clinepalas United, with two bad sops in the last days of the championships, finished fourth. At Fofokoy she was stopped by a draw against Clinepalas United and saw the dream of winning the title vanish for two years in a row. KarpìStomà continued his growth process, finishing third for the first time in the history of the Alfa League.

On the other side of the table, Katacra experienced a terrible first round, only managing to save themselves by winning the play-offs against Liptelj Union. The real negative surprise of the season was Afestosja, who had finished second in the league just five years earlier. The Afestosja Anarchists were ranked last, having a record eight games in a row and failing to win in the entire second round. Ighli and Ptoco also gave a great test in the championship, finishing respectively seventh and eighth, behind Hellas Anen and PAS Geitorisma.

For the first time in history, after the creation of the DSAFF Football Federation, Fortis Epops and Alla Fofokoy qualified for the inaugural edition of the DSAFF Champions League. Also affiliated with the IFCF, the Alfa League made available one spot for the IFCF Champions League (taken from Fortis Epops) and three for the IFCF Challengers Cup (taken by Alla Fofokoy, KarpìStomà and Clinepalas United).

Lignus Fonè of Hellas Anen was the top goalscorer, with 25 goals scored, followed by Stern A'apt of KarpìStomà with 24 and Arees Kenon of Fortis Epops with 18.

MT socialist (mostly) island state - Cultural mixture of Scandinavia, Finland and Russia -Exports iron, steel, silver and wood - Low fantasy in terms of animal species - Sports-loving - 22.8 million inhabitants.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!
I am a student of (European) politics, ice hockey fan, left-wing communist bordering on anarchy, and European federalist. Enjoy!
