And that was that for the group stage. Both teams were, apart from their slipups on Matchday 4, absolutely flawless against their opposition, even if they had to deal with titans of the Independent game in their groups - Real Squidroid were the only team undefeated in their Liga dos Vencedores group, having secured 16 points, while the Calamari Wanderers had 15 points to their name by the time the group stage was up - By most means both teams were part of the favorites to win it all, with Real's goals scored margin only bettered by Dynamo de Jacques-Cartier and Vitória Guimarães, the Calamari Wanderers goals conceded mark only tied by Kota Lama Ranger and Riuwiee United, and Los Squidroids also boasted the best goal differential in the group stage bar none. Heck they played so good that Trzebiegoszcz got to the knockouts with negative goal difference!

But the group stage was only half the battle - The road to Damogran was now a one way street - Lose a tie and you're eliminated. The Wanderers were drawn first... And of course they would get Trzebiegoszcz! Luckily the champions of Terre Septentionale did have the Real game from some preparation, but if the games Real had against them are any sign, they could falter against the Flying Squids. Real, on the other hand, were gifted a champion versus champion clash against Liga-TQ champions SC Pedregal, one of the oldest and most successful teams within the country. It was indeed one of the biggest games Pedregal would face - But nobody knew how far they would get yet...

The National Derby

It wasn't Matchday 30 yet, the final National Derby of the season, but with IFC 5 points ahead of 2nd and 11 points ahead of the Squidbreak, the Squidroidian army team needed all the momentum they could get to try and close the gap and let the Wanderers or Real to get there - Los Squidroids were on break, so they were bound to fall through the pecking order regardless, but when it came to the title fight all eyes were once again glued to SFA Park. If IFC were to win this, they would be the ones in control of their own destiny for a good chunk, at the very least, in the second half. However, the National Derby doesn't care what your position is in the table or how close you are to glory - 2 seasons ago IFC nearly stopped the Squidbreak from winning the title on the second to last day of the season - It cares how good you play.

And a tense 2-2 draw isn't controlling your own destiny. It's being controlled by the destiny of the gods.

Okay, we get it. The competition in the Independents, especially with the top tier clubs, can be tense at times. We all know Zwangzug has the best league sending teams to the FFI tournaments, heck 1./ clubs won the Taca das Confederacoes for 3 editions in a row, and there was an all-1./ final there for the past 2 editions, but the teams from, say, the Mercedinian Premier League, the Fleftic Premier League, the Squornshelan Superleague, the Première Ligue Septentrionale and the Liga-TQ are almost equally as tough, and for the latter 2 that was shown in the details surrounding their trips to Squidroidia - Both Szczakowianka and Pedregal scored 2 away goals against their Squidroidian opposition, and heck, Pedregal even won against Real. There was going to be a huge trip away for both of them to possibly book their bids to the Quarter-Finals, but there was one big league clash Real were waiting for... Perhaps 3rd time was the charm?

The Inkopolis Derby

Throughout this season, Alafi Budam, a free transfer for the Inklings from Sharktail, was a sitting duck. Unlike, say, Radowić or Rampart or Kalyvas, he hardly contributed in any sort of form. Heck, he would more often than not be substituted out or even sit on the bench for the whole game. He was hardly the star player that fans of the Blue Predator were hoping, even if he was reportedly getting into a "stride" after a cold snap for the title challengers. But in the Derby, he would get his chance, as a ball from Nephara's Wyoma Rampart fell onto his feet. All of a sudden he would snap off his shackles and bang in the only goal of the Derby to keep the Inklings top of the Super League. Derby matches have the power to turn people who didn't do so hot into household names in the nation. Real, however, slipped out of the IFCF places entirely. There was no room to mess up for Los Squidroids now.

The Wanderers and Los Squidroids were then set on 2 completely separate paths. Both were dished out huge losses in league play against the top teams in their home nation, and both of them were set and keen on turning frowns upside down and move on to the last 8 of the Liga dos Vencedores, hoping to equal, or maybe even better, the Squidbreak's run in the competition last season. For the Flying Squids, they got the job done - 2 away goals were key in sealing the win in Terre Septentrionale against Szczakowianka, keeping the away goals tiebreaker at bay, and ultimately converted that into a crucial win to book their Quarter-Finals place. In the state of Guastenango, however, Los Squidroids couldn't get it done - It might be because of the derby loss to IFC, but they weren't able to score any more than 1 goal. If they scored another, they could have almost certainly brought the game to extra time and maybe force out a win from under their noses. But they would end up back home, and right where they needed it the most - Finally, all their energy was now focused on the league, ready to fight back and try to defend their title.

8 Games To Go

The final quarter of the Jecken Squidroidian Super League. For every team at this point, they have 8 games left on their slate, and with the competition so tight, not only can anybody win the Squidroidian Shield mathematically, but anybody can still go to the drop zone or maybe even get sent down to the Challenge League - The gap between 1st and 9th is only 15 points. But for all intents and purposes, there are only 6 challengers who can realistically have a shot at IFCF and FFI football as well as the title. But let's take a trip around the table to see where everybody's mindset is at when it comes to the final few games of the season.

If there's any real chance imaginable for one of the other 8 clubs to win the Shield, it has to be beating the Inklings. IFC have been on a winning run - They have the best foreigner in the league in Zeta Rekan Tomislaw Radowić, so good in his debut season that he ended up earning a call up to the Zeta Rekan national team for the Cup of Harmony. He has a deadly striking trio surrounding him. Tied for the Golden Boot with another player, Tachibana Tadakuni looks like a star in the making, and Wyoma Rampart is just Wyoma Rampart - An aging Nepharan that still has it in such a competitive league. The game most crucial for them is their final home game, the Inkopolis Derby - A win against Real, should the competition stay tight when Matchday 35 happens, could end up sealing the Inklings their first Super League title...

New Blood

The 2 teams immediately behind the Inklings are what you don't expect - Not the other Top 4 members, but 2 outsiders. For Tyranny, this season might be revenge for the title slipup they had last year, going from title eligible on the final day to missing out on IFCF football. For Starlight, it's about getting a better than result than the 3rd place (As well as the Squidroidian Cup win) they had last year, an achievement in its own right. In SBFC's case, crashing out to Teussen Stelburg in the Cup Winners Cup and the Taca das Confederacoes exit was calculated - They were all in on a true title charge. Tyranny are just Tyranny - 2 guys in masks with a supporting cast turning Ichimoto into a hotbed of chaos. They could very well upset the order and clinch the title once all is set and done.

Squidbreak. Wanderers. Real. The old guard are all on the outside looking in. They could very well win the Shield, but for these old powers in Squidroidia, they need to win against Inkopolis FC more than anybody. For the Squidbreak, a National Derby win could increase their confidence and be a springboard to a possible title charge, and with Los Squidroids, an Inkopolis Derby win would be more crucial than anything, as they have been outscored 12-0 against IFC through the past THREE Inkopolis Derbies. The case for the Flying Squids is interesting - They still have the Liga dos Vencedores, but they do have to host the Inklings on the final day of the season - If the 2 teams have 3 points or less separating them, that game might be for the TITLE for both the away and home teams. Imagine the scenes in Calamari County if they seal a 2nd Shield!

The race that might be more interesting, however, is the scrap for relegation. All 3 teams new to the Super League this season - Souraoi, Northport and Spartansburg - are separated by 3 points and the table can change wildly between now and then. Heck, any of the other teams can be hovering relegation by the time the final day kicks off. Souraoi has the Wok, Northport has the Dodge, Spartansburg has the Pan. That's all we're going to say about this, just let the games speak for theirselves.

Maybe there was a reason for the Flying Squids to lose against Souraoi... For only the second time in Squidroidian footballing history a team from the country has advanced to the Quarter-Finals of the FFI Liga dos Vencedores, and the home result they displayed after a dismal league performance over the weekend more than made up for it. Goalkeeper Thuno Kopal was on his a-game against the Sharktail power Kota Lama Ranger, keeping the ball from scoring throughout the 90 minutes as the offense did all the dirty work. With such a dominant display at home, people are already writing their name to go into the Final 4. A trip to Kota Lama was to await them...

One chance to bridge the gap between themselves and the Inklings for the Squidbreak was waisted in the final National Derby of the season. Laugh at the Squidbreak all you want but Inkopolis was the better team - Another goal for Alafi Budam (His 2nd only goal for IFC, both goals coming in the Derby) and a Swindlehurst strike late was enough to steady the ship as the capital club were one step closer to a Super League title. For the Squidbreak, however, it felt like their title chances were over, and they were left to play for the scraps... IFCF football.

The Title Race

With 6 matchdays to go, 3 teams already had their bye week for this quarter of the season, as Starlight, Real and the Squidbreak all enjoyed days off for the matchdays just gone by. Everybody else, meanwhile, still has a bye day on schedule - The other 6 clubs have 5 matchdays to go until their season is finished, and with the maximum points for the final 5 games being 15, Souraoi FT, Spartansburg City and Northport Meadows SC have been eliminated from title contention. The most likely scenario for the 3 clubs is a relegation battle.

For the 3 teams with byes, the maximum points they can get is 18, so yes, Real and the Squidbreak both have (semi-realistic) shots at the Squidroidian Shield. But as the National Derby win proved, nobody isn't simply going to stop Inkopolis FC, who sit a whopping 9 points ahead of their closest competitors in Starlight and Tyranny and 14 points ahead of the Calamari Wanderers, the latter of whom holds the qualification spot for the FFI Taca das Confederacoes. A title victory for them is all but impossible, but anything was, and is, possible in the Super League.

No other Squidroidian club has gone farther than them before, not the Squidbreak, not Real, and of course not the LdV laughing stocks that are Inkopolis FC. The only team standing in their way from making the Final now? l'Dynamo. Jaques-Cartier. They were going to have to go back to Terre Septentrionale.

With Inkopolis so much further ahead in the league, the home clash at Ichimoto was crucial in Tyranny's title hopes... And even whilst away, IFC were just too good. With goals from foreign stars Rampart and Radowić, the title was all but snatched away from the Tyranny. Takesi could try, the Bees in the mask could try, heck even foreign talent in Barlow and Vickery could try themselves, but with 3 games to go - And a bye for the next matchday - The 9 point gap between themselves and the Inklings was basically unreachable, unless, of course, a 27 goal gap was cleared and IFC lost all of their games. With news from Starlight about a draw with Spartansburg, the light was at the end of the tunnel. A win against Souraoi would win them the title. Years of hurt, embarrassment, coming oh so close but so so far... They were almost done.

It's over. The blunder by Sadao was all that had to happen. For the first time in the history of the Squidroidian Super League, Inkopolis FC were the champions. The heartbreak from final days long ago, the embarrassment from missing out on IFCF football last season... It seemed like Tomislaw Radowić was the piece that clicked this team, this proud Inklings team, to winning the title they have been craving since the beginning of the Super League. The wait was over - Although title celebrations would commence at the Inkopolis Derby in 2 weeks time, nobody could catch them. The Squidroidian Shield was in their hands.

Stade NordAir, Jacques-Cartier, District de Cartier, Terre Septentrionale

l'Dynamo de Jacques-Cartier. The premier team from the Cartier District, but by no means the best in all of Terre Septentrionale. Despite the team's status in the district, they have never won the Première Ligue de Soccer, having finished 2nd last season, their first runners-up finish in such a turbulent league, with seemingly only 1 constant - Szczakowianka Trzebiegoszcz were the premier team in the Northern Land. With Szczakowianka out of the Liga dos Vencedores (By the Wanderers no less), l'Dynamo were the nation's only hope left to getting to Damogran. No Première Ligue team has gotten to the final in either the Liga or the Taca. At the Stade NordAir, the term "Close but oh so far" was there to be shown - The Flying Squids put one foot in front of the door with a volley by the Chromatik Alta Goforth. A Squidroidian team was now 90 minutes away from getting to the Liga dos Vencedores Final.

Calamari Wanderers CFC win 3-1 on penalties

County Stadium. The ball hitting the net caused the arena, vibing with over 20,000 fans from Squidroidia's second largest city, to go silent. It was the 73rd minute. It was the 20 year old Benjamin Sanche, otherwise known as "Sancho". He gave l'Dynamo the equalizer in the Liga dos Vencedores Semi-Final. The lead gained at the NordAir was erased. In seemingly an instant, the tide seemed to turn, l'Dynamo had all the shots they needed to break the tie, secure the away goals advantage, and reach the Final. The Wanderers tried, and they tried as hard as they could to stop the team in orange. Full time? 1-1 on aggregate. Extra time? Still 1-1 on aggregate when the 120th minute passed. Penalties had to separate these 2. Someone had to leave in tears.

Unfortunately, l'Dynamo's tide evaporated. The shine of the lights at the County Stadium distracted them from their intended target. Just a save from the Confederate Thuno Kopal was all the Wanderers needed to book their place in Damogran, and he came at just the right time. l'Dynamo were in tears, and the Wanderers were in the Final for the first time in their history. The team that awaited them? Los Silbadores. The Whistlers. Old blood in Guastenango. SC Pedregal.

The Inkopolis Derby... And the Title Celebration

As the final whistle blew for the Inkopolis Derby, with Real winning the only fixture in the 2nd biggest derby in the country, the Inklings of Inkopolis FC weren't ashamed. The title race had wrapped up a couple matchdays ago, with IFC far ahead of Real or Tyranny or Starlight. As such, they took this derby game easy - They weren't in the Squidroidian Cup, they had no IFCF or FFI obligations, they could just cruise on autopilot and let the losses roll in. If this decided the fate of the league, they wouldn't have played this soft. But the title celebrations made them just want to let Real... You know, win an Inkopolis Derby this season. It almost felt like they were sorry for the constant demolitions they had in their first 2 encounters this season.

The loyal fans of IFC, ones who stayed on through the heartbreaks and tribulations of the past years, stayed at the Inkopolis City Stadium to start the title celebrations for their beloved club. In attendance handing out the medals for Inkopolis - For those who played at least 450 minutes (Or 5 whole games worth) of football for the champions this season - Was the President of the Squidroidian FA, Fukuhara Himeko. One by one the players came up - Norihide, Meeuwessen, Kalyvas, Hoshino, Kane, Budam, Radowić, Tadakuni, Rampart, Swindlehurst, Santini, Nariaki and Taroemon all got their medals. After the procession, ended by team captain Jo Jun, ended. the players of the team huddled around. Himeko gave Jun the Squidroidian Shield, then the 32 year old held it aloft, met by the screams of the other players and the pounding of the fireworks. They would dance and play with their maiden Super League trophy throughout the night. For Orestis? It was a perfect time to hang them up, riding into the sunset with Rampart making the horse gallop.

A Look at the Final Day

Unlike the Final Days of league seasons past, there will not be a title race that comes down to the wire, with Inkopolis FC having clinched the title in dominating fashion on Matchday 33. In fact, all 4 IFCF places have been settled, with the aforementioned IFC, as well as Starlight, Real Squidroid and Tyranny, all confirmed to have at least some form of IFCF football. It is to be noted, however, that Real also have the Squidroidian Cup final, which may or may not harm their chase for 2nd and that final Liga dos Vencedores spot against Starlight Boulevard, as they will play host Tyranny on the final day, hoping that Starlight lose or, at the very least, Real bridge a 2 goal gap.

It is also worth noting that the Squidbreak will stay up this season, as will the Calamari Wanderers. The Squidroidian army team did have some trouble this season and were in contention for an historic and devastating relegation, but are assured at least 6th place and at most 5th place, depending on how their main rivals in Inkopolis deal in Calamari County. The Squidbreak will play against Real in the Cup FInal, while the Flying Squids will have to travel to Damogran for the Liga dos Vencedores Final. That means 6 teams can qualify for some sort of international competition when the trophy is lifted at Bridger Lane.

The only thing worth mattering is the relegation battle, as Spartansburg, Northport and Souraoi have to contend with at least a spot in the Promotion/Relegation Group against Midnight and Weedpot. If they win and Souraoi lose, they will get into the Pro/Rel Group with Souraoi going down, HOWEVER, if Souraoi draw to Starlight Boulevard, Northport has to win by 3 goals to escape last place on goals for. With absolutely nothing to play for come the final day in the Challenge League, most of the rosters were resting their top players, especially Midnight and Weedpot, who had confirmed to make the Promotion/Relegation Group and have at least a shot of joining Octo Valley in the Challenge League next season. As such, nothing of note really happened... Unless you count THS's 8th win of the season as something. No exciting down to the wire jostling for position, just a bland, dry final day which had only 1 real highlight - Midnight slipping 3 past Squidbreak B.

A lot to take away with 13 goals in 90 minutes. With 10 minutes gone, the table then looked a little bit different - Northport were supposedly away from the hard drop, the Calamari Wanderers were finding themselves 6th and the battle between Real and Starlight for the Liga dos Vencedores spot had nothing important on it. It's amazing how 80 minutes can change things - Northport quickly gave up their 1 goal lead to the Squidbreak and with it, had no choice but to accept the drop at the end of the day. In the case of Wanderers versus IFC, the Flying Squids got a goal back due to a penalty call but couldn't capitalize on it, and the Souraoi team that were facing relegation head on? It was Yoshitoshi's flyer that got them out of a sticky situation. Oh yeah, and Tyranny and Real had a FIGHT, but the gang from Ichimoto quickly gave up a 3-2 lead by the end of the game to (Tentatively at least) give Akira Honda the Golden Boot and give Real Squidroid a spot in the Liga dos Vencedores. Spartansburg now had to deal with the Promotion/Relegation Group and it's horrors.

The Jecken Squidroidian Super League

2023 - Pro/Rel Group

5 words rang out in the lockers of Spartansburg City as they were attempting to stay up in their first ever season of Squidroidian Super League football - Give it all you got. The Ironheads worked hard just to get to this point, aided by star Qusmi striker Alfan-Zylyz Pan and his heroics for the side. Now they had 180 minutes to save their heads and hope that they don't drown under the water that Midnight and Weedpot provided. If they were to stay up and deny Midnight a return to the promised land, they could perhaps build on their side from this year and challenge the top dogs for IFCF football. That is a big, big if.

NOTE: As is tradition with the Promotion/Relegation Group, all 3 teams will play in a single round robin group (3 games) at a neutral site. The Squidroidian FA has deemed this site to be County Stadium in Calamari County.

2023 - Awards

Like in the 2022 season, awards were handed out at the end of the season to the best players in the Jecken Squidroidian Super League based on stats, popularity within Squidroidia as well as a vote between the players in the league. The awards from the previous season - The Golden Boot, Golden Glove, Golden Arrow, Golden Squid, 12th Man and Young Squid Awards will be given out, with the addition of a Team of the Season and a Best Foreign Player.

Golden Boot

The Golden Boot Award is given away to the top goalscorer in the Jecken Squidroidian Super League, regardless of the team they play for.

Winner - Akira Honda (Real Squidroid CF, SQR, 14 goals)
Runners-up - Tachibana Tadakuni (Inkopolis FC, SQR, 12 goals) and Amagawa Katsuyoshi (Real Squidroid CF, SQR, 10 goals)

Despite losing out on the league title to city rivals IFC, Real's Squidroidian pairing of Honda and Katsuyoshi did most of the serious scoring for the Tower District outfit, scoring 24 of the 70 goals they scored in league competition this season. Honda, of course, did more of the damage than Amagawa, and as such ended up topping IFC's Tadakuni to take the Golden Boot, and with that a host of opportunities to lead his team to their second Super League title come next season.

Golden Glove

The Golden Glove Award is given to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the Jecken Squidroidian Super League. In case of a tie, the goals against the 2 teams the players play for will act as a tiebreaker.

A light so young and already Kaede Akiyama, Starlight's star goalkeeper, has been lighting up Squidroidia with his performances for the Boulevard Boys. The 21 year old's time in the sticks for 3rd place Starlight has been eventful to say the least - Starlight had the best defense in the league as they only gave up 18 goals, most of them due to Kaede's luck stopping the shots. His future is brighter than most, and as such he is also given the Young Squid Award for best Under-23s player in the Jecken Squidroidian Super League.

Golden Arrow

The Golden Arrow Award is given to the player with the most assists in the Jecken Squidroidian Super League. An assist is counted for a player if a touch by them has led to a goal by the player they gave the ball to.

Yes, he's not the Golden Boot winner. He's not won the Golden Arrow. He isn't even under the age of 23. But Tachibana's influence in the 2023 Inkopolis FC team that stormed to their first Super League title and 3rd Squidroidian national championship can't be ignored. Yes, he has only gotten himself 2 assists, and the likes of Wyoma Rampart and Tomislaw Radowić on his own team have gotten involved in more goal chances than him, but in the eyes of IFC, he was that crucial piece in winning the title for them. Without Tadakuni, the Inklings might have found themselves in a gaping chasm stuck in 4th or 5th in the league. One player with that much influence on a title winning side can't be fed the scraps.

The Best Foreign Player Award is given out to the best non-Squidroidian player in the Jecken Squidroidian Super League, and reflects the importance of other nations of the world's game in the top flight, not just Squidroidia's. 3 finalists out of the foreign players in the league were nominated for the award.

It was a well rewarded choice - 9 goals, 5 assists, and a league title later, the 21 year old has shown Squidroidia what he is made of. Oh yeah, and he almost won the Young Squid Award.

As per a draw that was conducted after the Semi-Final games, FC Squidroidia Squidbreak were deemed the "home" team for administrational purposes. The Squidroidian Youth League

2023 - Full Season

Changes

Due to the 2023 New Team Initiative, the youth teams for Souraoi FT (Souraoi FT Academy) and Newton Pulsars (Newton Pulsars U19s) were added to the Youth League.
Due to the 14 team schedule, there will only be a Top 6 Finals Series, with Modified Republica Rules for the Finals Series and the Youth League Final.
The SFA have been in talks with allowing high school teams to participate in the Youth League, but a decision will not be made until 2025 at the earliest.

Regular Season

The regular season pit the 14 member teams of the Youth League in a single home and away format. The top 6 teams earned qualification for the Finals Series.

The Squidroidian Amateur League

2023 - Full Season

Changes

Due to the absence of the Heritage Cup for Squidroidian amateur football teams to qualify for, qualification paths for the SAL to the Heritage Cup will be scrapped. Only the top 2 teams in the Amateur League will qualify for the Squidroidian Cup.
The amount of teams in the Amateur League has also been cut from 30 to 16. Have a nice day.

The Jecken Squidroidian Super League

2024 - League Meeting

Before the 2024 Jecken Squidroidian Super League season was to begin, the 9 clubs for the season met at the headquarters of the Squidroidian FA in Inkopolis to discuss the new season. The previous season was one that was, compared to 2022 at least, somewhat boring, with Inkopolis FC winning their first Super League title and their arch rival Squidbreak as well as the Wanderers missing out on IFCF football, with the latter being given just the premier FFI competition to work with in terms of international football. Replacing Spartansburg and Northport, which both joined last season, were 2 returnees - Midnight Soccer Club won the Promotion/Relegation Group, returning to the league for the first time since getting relegated in the 2021 season, while Octo Valley bounced straight back up with a Challenge League title to their name. Starlight and Tyranny were partaking in IFCF football for their second time each, both in the Challengers Cup, with Starlight also getting FFI football for the second season in a row. Speaking of FFI...

Issue #1 - FFI Reform and the Relocation of Squidroidian Football

A big issue that was at the center of the headlines and heated boardroom meetings between all 16 member clubs of the top 2 leagues in the nation was the FFI and fixture congestion. For the Big 4 clubs and especially Real Squidroid, this brought up concerns that fixture congestion could impact a team's title push domestically and may help them get relegated, as the Calamari Wanderers nearly did back in 2021. Simply put, the group stage format of the Liga dos Vencedores and Taca das Confederacoes was too much, especially if a team also had IFCF competitions going on as well. Of course, Real would finish 2nd in the Super League and win the Squidroidian Cup, whilst making the Quarter-Finals of the FFI Liga dos Vencedores after their group stage exit from the Challengers Cup. There seemed to be nothing to worry about.

With the FFI announcing that both competitions, now known as the League of Victors and Confederations Tournament, would transition to a cup-style knockout format instead, breathing room for the Big 4 clubs was assured. The main reason why they wanted to move to a different confederation in the first place was gone. Sure, the Confederations Tournament would have some carryover meaning that their first round would happen after the first round of the League of Victors, but nothing else had to change. As far as the Squidroidian clubs were concerned, a major workload was gone as the amount of FFI games were cut massively. More room for teams to send in their first teams during the busy, busy times of the IFCF group stage should a team qualify.

After discussion with the Squidroidian FA and the Challenge League member clubs, there will not be a move to a different regional confederation for Squidroidia. Squidroidia would stay a member of the Federation of Footballing Independents and the national team would continue to participate in the IAC.

Issue #2 - Foreign Player Spots

The tried and true Squidroidian philosophy of 4 foreign players per side was tested as well. With Inkopolis FC and the Calamari Wanderers maxing out their credit cards when it came to foreign spending and each fielding 4 foreign players as they won the Super League and Liga dos Vencedores respectively, they wanted more foreigners to partake in the Squidroidian game. Their argument: The SSL was now a top 50 league when it came to the IFCF, even though the nation's club sides only mustered 51st in IFCF coefficients (Thank the Vilitan League, United League and S-FPL for that). More players would want to come to Squidroidian clubs, especially the Big 4, to play in such a highly competitive league and earn spots for IFCF football. There were only 9 Super League sides after all, and 36 foreign players maximum wasn't going to let any big players through the door.

The 5 clubs outside the Big 4 disagreed with the argument from IFC and the Wanderers. More foreign players would stack the deck too highly for the Big 4 and stop the overall chaos of the Super League, ending possible IFCF runs from the likes of Starlight, Tyranny and many, many others. After much deliberation, the foreign player rule was expanded only lightly to add 1 spot for substitute players. A team can have a maximum of 5 foreigners on their roster, with the previous Youth League rules still applying, but 1 player must be designated a substitute for the game.

Issue #3 - TV Rights Contract and Revenue

With the 5 year title sponsorship between the Super League and Jeckland based food company Jecken set to expire after the 2026 season, as well as the negotiated television rights with SBN which was distributed every season to the member clubs, plans for the 2027 television rights contract already entered a preliminary phase. With the league not only being broadcasted in Squidroidia, but in Atlantian Oceania (Chromatika and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec) and Rushmore (Tikariot and Græntfjall) as well as in Kohnhead, the TV rights deal would certainly expand from the 5 year, 320 million Yen contract established when Jecken was first announced as the league's title sponsor, and that might balloon even further if the Super League could grab a second Champions League spot by 2026, although with only 2 years remaining at the end of this season that was a hard ask according to the clubs on the lower end of the spectrum. Whether or not that was achieved, more money would certainly funnel into the teams who participate in the league, which would mean bigger and better stars coming into the domestic game.

But with the prospect of cutting a TV rights deal 2 years away, the teams were not ready to know their yearly television revenues until the league's status in world football was more fully realized the closer the Jecken deal was to ending. No discussion of TV rights offers for 2027 and beyond, foreign or domestic, would be discussed in 2024. 2025 would be when the offers would first be discussed by the member clubs, the SFA and the league's TV partners.

2024 - League Recap

OOC Note: Due to RL concerns, I wasn't able to do the league like I did for the 2023 season at all. There will be no team previews, as I instead will jump into the league table results and do a quick lookover when it comes to the IFCF and FFI results.

IFCF Qualifying Rounds

As the 2024 season started for the Squidroidian clubs, so did the slate of IFCF fixtures for those who qualified from 2023. Due to, once again, the sheer number of entries present for the 2 big club competitions organized by the IFCF (Champions League and Challengers Cup), an Extra Preliminary Round was added to the latter and was played before the First Preliminary Rounds of the other competitions. Tyranny and Starlight, who finished 4th and 3rd respectively, faced off against New Lakeland from Cassadaigua and AFC Glover Beach from Bucklin respectively, and both advanced quite comfortably, winning both legs in each matchup and advancing 6-1 and 5-1 on aggregate respectively. The reigning Super League champions in IFC opened their Champions League journey against Murphtannian Premier League champions Luton City United in the First Qualifying Round, drawing 1-1 in Luton before winning 3-0 to secure a place in the second round. Weedpot would also get a Liga B win over Krokodile Konsfurt of Prinz-Eugens-Land.

Against higher competition, it was a mixed bag for the Squidroidian clubs. All 3 Challengers League qualifying clubs scored wins in the First Preliminary Round of that competition, as the Boulevard Boys defeated storied United League club Cloudsdale Flyers 5-1 on aggregate, including a 4-0 beatdown at Sunrise Park. Against Gothanitan opposition in FC Tyrani, Los Squidroids rose up to the challenge and won 3-0 on aggregate, winning both legs, while GPL titans Altendalur were swept away in Ichimoto as Tyranny won the second leg of their tie 3-2 to advance 4-3 on aggregate after a 1 all draw in the White Winter Queendom. Out of those 3 clubs, only Starlight advanced to the Challengers Cup 3rd Preliminary Round, beating Reçueçn FC on spot kicks. Real lost out to Q-League side Olympique de Rimouski on away goals and Tyranny fell to Nacional outright, even if they won 1-0 away from home. Midnight Soccer Club were the only team that advanced out of the 3 Liga B qualifiers to their Third Preliminary Round as well.

All the while IFC repeated the age old mantra - A Squidroidian team never advances to the Champions League 3rd Preliminary Round. After drawing in Inkopolis City Stadium 0-0 against Zeta Rekan club Aleiusia Capital, they would lose 1-0 in the return fixture, dumping them out of the competition and into the Challengers Cup. With Midnight losing in the Liga B 3rd Preliminary Round to Shieldhill, only IFC and Starlight remained in IFCF competition. Inkopolis were dealt a giant in the form of Nepharim Zenith superclub Crisisbless in the 3rd Preliminary Round, but their 3 goals in Inkopolis were enough to see them through even if the Inklings won 2-0 in Nephara. Starlight would advance to the Playoff Round after beating Wanda Island Wanderers of the Fleftic Premier League 5-4 on aggregate, including a 4-3 1st leg win at Sunrise Park. Against Valadar club Tannenberg FC in the Playoff Round, they would tie the fixture 2-2 on aggregate, even after extra time, forcing the game to go to penalties. Like the Flying Squids in their Playoff Round tie against Arlington City, they won on penalties to advance to the Qualifying Round. Unfortunately, they would not go to the group stage after losing out 4-2 against Eastfielders RGS Athletic. The Boulevard Boys nearly became the third Squidroidian club to advance to the IFCF group stages.

With 16 games already played on the calendar, the table looked like a table that needed 10 pairs of bifocals to really understand what was going on, especially compared to 2022 or even 2023. Starlight were on top of the table, with star goalkeeper Kaede Akiyama, who was rumored to go abroad before the season began, keeping hold of the league's 2nd best defense, behind 2nd place Squidbreak, as the army team tries to bounce back from a bad 2023 season. Winning the opening game of the season, a National Derby nonetheless, helps. Tyranny once again were in the IFCF conversation, sitting on 3rd a point behind the Squidbreak with the Confederations Trophy spot, and a point ahead of the Wanderers in 4th. IFC were in 5th, but the real shock so far were, once again, the defending Squidroidian Cup champions in Real Squidroid. They were seemingly all in on the Cup Winners Cup for the second quarter of the season, whipping FC Heilig Krösħ of Saltstead in the Preliminary Round before their stocks went bust against V-League powerhouses Eastern Lunar in the First Round Proper. The good news was that they were in the Pro/Rel Group and 1 point ahead of Midnight for safety. Bad news was that they were 8th. A far cry from 2nd. Octo Valley sat in 9th, 5 points behind at least the Pro/Rel Group and looked like heading straight back down.

The Federation of Footballing Independents

With the restructuring of the FFI coming into effect this season, the qualified clubs (Including defending champions Calamari Wanderers) had more time fielding their first teams than ever. When the League of Victors and Confederations Tournament went to town, however, things were completely different. Single legged cup ties, no replays, no 2nd legs, straight to extra time and penalties if the 2 teams were level. Some had a better way of adapting than others - All 3 qualified entries to the League of Victors didn't make the Quarter-Finals - Real Squidroid lost out to Royal Tyakrita FC in the Preliminary Round, IFC lost to Mercedinian side Zoloroni City 2-4 in Inkopolis in the last 32, and in the Last 16, the defending champions lost out to Arlington City on penalties to get knocked out.

For the 2 Inkopolis sides, however, they got a lifeline, transferring to the Confederations Tournament, where they had more success. Well, not for Real Squidroid, as they failed to make it past the Round of 32 and AC Cutti. IFC would lose to the Wanda Island Wanderers in the Round of 16, unlike Starlight, who made it all the way to the Semi-Finals and were one game away from Chem, beating 2 1./ sides along the way. In Pitxi-Pitxi's second to last game as a Independent club before transitioning to Anaia, the 77o would beat the Boulevard Boys in Tequilo to advance to the nation's last ever FFI final, where they lost out to Sarian club Wilaamstad Wrijgers. Once again, Starlight lost out on glory.

For the 2nd time in the Super League era (And the first time since the 2020 season), the Calamari Wanderers came on top. Unlike the first ever Super League season, however, they wrapped it up before the final day, assuring that the Squidbreak and Tyranny couldn't catch them, both of them being guaranteed FFI football and 8 points ahead of 4th place, which was also secured by the time the final day kicked off, as Starlight would partake in the Challengers Cup, but neither would either top-flight Inkopolis side. Real Squidroid bounced back from their 8th place standing at the halfway point to get to 5th, 1 point behind the IFCF line, finishing ahead of their city rivals in IFC in what has to be a disappointing season. MSC would go back to the Promotion/Relegation Group in 8th place, being denied safety after losing 6-4 to the Squidbreak and after Souraoi won against Starlight. But that 6-4 loss at Darkness Stadium wasn't the worst result in the final day. To put insult to injury, IFC would beat the already-relegated Octo Valley Football Club 11 to 1. Yes, you are reading that correctly. 11-1. The biggest blowout in Super League history, with nothing to play for. Oh how the tables turn.

Having dropped down to Squidroidia's second tier last year, Spartansburg rebounded in impressive fashion to take the Challenge League title with 5 points separating them and 3rd place Tractor Club. IFC B were seemingly their only challengers, the Inklings reserve team only behind by 1 point with a shot at the title on the final day. Despite IFC B's best efforts, the Ironheads held on against Northport to not only win the title, but as Factoria struggled to score against last place THS, secured the Herders IFCF football and a chance at promotion. Tractor Club, rebounding and putting their Liu money to good use, would join them and Midnight to decide the final Super League spot.

Promotion/Relegation Group

As per tradition, the 2nd and 3rd ranked first teams in the Squidroidian Challenge League and the 8th place team in the Squidroidian Super League would play a single round-robin group stage, with the winner playing in the 2025 Squidroidian Super League and the other 2 sides playing in the Squidroidian Challenge League for next season. A neutral site, this time the FunStar Complex Football Field in Souraoi, was chosen to host the group.

With Tractor Club drawing both of their games and Northport and Midnight drawing a game each, the final game of the group would essentially act as a playoff final for both clubs. Unfortunately Midnight would fall back into the darkness of the Challenge League for a second season, as the Herders, who only qualified for the group on the final day, achieved promotion back to the Super League with a 2-0 win, the only game in the group that didn't end with a draw and ended with a team going scoreless.

2024 - Full Season

The Story of the Young Chaos

Riding high from their 2023 Youth League final win over the venerable Calamari Wanderers County Academy, the Real Squidroid CF youth academy, also known as the Caos Joven or, more literally, Young Chaos, entered 2024 with a prime and ready core ready to challenge at youth club football's highest level - The Rising Stars Cup. Out of the Starting XI, 4 players were aged 18 when the season began, and another 4 were 17. Since the Squidroidian Youth League was an under-19s league, those 18 year olds had one more season to prove themselves that they would make a jump up to the Los Squidroids team or, if they're lucky, sold on to another club abroad or in the Challenge League to gain more experience before reaching the top flight. Squidroidian clubs haven't done much in the RSC, but that was about to change.

As the winner of the Youth League, the Caos Joven academy team were placed in the Youth Champions Path, a 2 round affair before the 8 winners from the 2nd round partook in a playoff round with the 2nd place teams from the Champions League Path. In the first round they were drawn against formidable opposition in the form of rising Equestrian club YC Hollow Shades, the youth team to United League mid-table side AC Hollow Shades, having won the UHA Development League 9 points ahead of 2nd place Crystopolis City. The first leg in Equestria was marked by an away goal for the Caos Joven, before the return leg in Inkopolis saw the home side finish the job and advance to the 2nd round 2-0 on aggregate. Their next opponents, Baskita FC of Pasarga, put up a bigger fight than Hollow Shades, winning 2-1 in the second leg in Inkopolis. In Pasarga, however, 3 away goals, one scored by rising 14 year old Noam Marchand and 2 scored by Inkling girl Fleurette McCracken made the difference in a 3-2 first leg win. The Caos Joven advanced on away goals, 4-4.

From here on out the Caos Joven academy had to play single-legged games all the way to the Final in Kistina, Poafmersia. There was no 2nd leg, lose and you're out. The team they first welcomed to the vibrant city of Inkopolis were the youth team of venerable Eastfield titans Olympia FC. They didn't put much of a fight on the table for 90 minutes, as the Caos Joven, with McCraken leading the way, won 3-0, the young girl pumping out a goal and an assist, one of which was to Nishiyama Mamoru to seal the deal. In the Round of 16 they would stay in Inkopolis again, this time putting a skewer on Bruul Skewers from Mriin 3-1. But before they would make it to the Arena of Light, the Caos Joven had to travel to Myjanija to take on Energija-Nuklearna, a team who, most notably, beat the ever-living crap out of Colonial Sile 6-0 in the Playoff Round. In a close 2-1 win away from their confines, the Caos Joven made it to the Arena of Light, the first Squidroidian youth side to advance to the last 4 of the Rising Stars Cup. Their reward? The Guzmán-Cress Academy from Valladares. The winner would face the winner of the first Semi-Final, between previous RSC champions AFC Treason and Tequilo Series-Y winners Acacoyagua in the Final.

But with an amazing attack, one which could be the future of not only Real Squidroid but the Squidroidian national team, came a bad defense. The goalkeeper, Shouta Ikeda, and the back 4 were either 17 or 18 years old and were nearing the end of their youth careers with the Caos Joven. Their inconsistencies were shown throughout the tournament, with 3 clean sheets to their name (In the 2 Hollow Shades games and against Olympia), while they gave up 4 against Baskita. Guzmán-Cress also had defending inconsistencies, with them giving up 4 goals against the Laketown Rangers but grabbing 2 clean sheets in the latter rounds. But the inconsistencies of the Caos Joven were too much to see a chance at lifting the trophy, the famed Valladar academy winning 2-0 before losing to Treason in the Final. Even though they didn't win the trophy, the Caos Joven academy had a lot to prove and could, perhaps, signal a future golden generation in Squidroidian football...

The regular season pit the 14 member teams of the Youth League in a single home and away format. The top 6 teams earned qualification for the Finals Series.

The top 2 teams will qualify for the Youth League Final.

Changes

4 teams have been renamed between the end of the 2023 season and the start of the 2024 season - Super Noah's AFC 3D have been renamed to LP Inkopolis, Savage Love (Laxed - Football Club) have been renamed to SL Squidroidia SC, SFC Mill Times have been renamed to the Spartansburg Millers and Game Boys SC have been renamed to the Starlight Sedonas.

The Jecken Squidroidian Super League

2025 - League Meeting

It was onwards to 2025 in Squidroidia, and like 2024, the 16 member clubs of the Squidroidian Super League and Squidroidian Challenge League once again convened at the Squidroidian FA's headquarters for preseason meetings. Last season proved to start an established new era for Squidroidian football in such an ever-competitive league - Once again 2 titans would drop out of IFCF football, those 2 being the 2 Inkopolis sides in IFC and Real, while the Calamari Wanderers bounced back and won the Super League title after missing out on the bright lights and dark nights last goaround. In return, Midnight and Octo Valley returned back down to the Challenge League, being returned by the yo-yo of Spartansburg City and the return of Northport to the top flight of Squidroidian football. One thing was front and center of the league meeting however. It wasn't the FFI or the international talent coming over, it was one thing that the clubs needed... Money.

The title sponsorship of the Squidroidian Super League by Jeckland-based food company Jecken, and the TV rights revenue SBN forked over to broadcast the league, was set to expire after the 2026 season. A new deal was talked about in last year's league meeting but no preliminary talks were held, as the clubs insisted on pushing it back to right here and right now. The current deal was paying out 320 million Yen over 5 years, or 40 million Yen per season, with the clubs each getting an even slice of the pie. Back when the SSL was 8 teams, that was 5 million Yen per team, but with the expansion to 9 teams that piece of the pie shortened, forcing teams to think smart and not overinvest for the future and risk bankruptcy. With the league also being broadcasted in Quebec and Shingoreyo, Chromatika, Tikariot, Græntfjall and Kohnhead thanks to foreign rights deals, not to mention the exposure teams like the Wanderers and Real had when they went to the Challengers Cup group stage, Squidroidian football was reaching a wider market, and estimations by the clubs all pointed to an increase in TV rights revenue streaming into the clubs and helping them compete, at least more regularly, in international competition. One major catalyst that was supposed to make the rights go up and up was a 2nd Champions League spot.

That spot was confirmed. The top 2 teams in the Squidroidian Super League, at least for 2025, will qualify for the IFCF Champions League. With that sealed and done with, the prospects over a TV rights deal was more in the ballpark of big money more than small chump change. That second spot was a gamechanger and all 16 clubs were watering over the mouth of a big Squidroidian break that would effect everybody from the Big 4 to the amateur, academy and high school games. The only real question was where the league was going to go from there. Squidroidia had 5 IFCF spots on hand, not to mention the Cup Winners Cup or the Liga B Champions Trophy and of course the FFI (The 2 Champions League clubs would also compete in the League of Victors), and with only 9 teams in the Super League at any one time, things would be brutal in an already intense league, with teams either fighting for Champions League football or the drop zone.

In other words, something had to give. Either the teams risk it all on the line for IFCF football or they risked relegation. With the league looking to grow, a solution was reached between the 16 Squidroidian top-level clubs from the Super League and the Challenge League - From 2027, the top 2 leagues in Squidroidian football were to be merged into a new Squidroidian Super League. With this, the league season would be shortened from 32 games in a 36 week schedule to 30 games in a 30 week schedule - Not counting the Squidroidian Cup or international fixtures. The Squidroidian Amateur League would become the 2nd tier of Squidroidian football, and was to be renamed from 2027 as the Squidroidian Pro League - However no promotion or relegation was to happen for the first 5 seasons. The top 2 teams in the Pro League would automatically qualify for the Liga B Champions Trophy, and the teams ranked 3rd to 6th were to play in a playoff for the final spot. As for IFC and Squidbreak B, they would play in a new Squidroidian Reserve League - A stepping stone of sorts from the Pro League to the Super League for the first 5 years - for the B teams of the 16 clubs that would be involved in the first season of the new Super League.

All that remained now was the TV rights deal for this new endeavor. The member clubs would prefer each broadcaster to sign a 5 year deal, with the Squidroidian Broadcasting Network (SBN) signing on and chipping in 160 million Yen each year to be divided evenly for the 16 member clubs, a stake totaling 800 million Yen for the deal. Each deal must be announced before the end of the 2026 season.

2025 - League Overview

The 2025 Squidroidian Super League season, the 2nd to last season before the planned merger of the top 2 leagues, was the first season to see 5 clubs qualifying for IFCF competition, as the top 2 teams were now guaranteed a place in the IFCF Champions League. IFCF football was relatively a mixed bag for the participating Squidroidian clubs - Defending Super League champions Calamari Wanderers didn't even get past the 1st Preliminary Round of the Champions League, a historic and unfortunate first for Squidroidian Football, as the Flying Squids, with talent like Alta Goforth from Chromatika, lost out to St Thomas from the Licentian Isles on away goals. Starlight Boulevard, just coming off losing Kaede Akiyama, their star goalkeeper, also fell on the first hurdle, losing to Sendhang's KS Larantuka in the Extra Preliminary Round of the Challengers Cup. Tyranny, just off their Squidroidian Cup win, torched their way to the 2nd round, past the Space Coast Rockets in convincing fashion and BDE FC in not-so-convincing fashion. The Squidbreak also destroyed their 1st Preliminary Round opposition 6-0, including a 5-0 win at the Takanori Army Base. Convincing win after convincing win (Including Tyranny's shock of Euraleague side Oakstone and the Squidbreak's close call with Olympic) sent the 3 teams to the Playoff Round... Where they couldn't get past their opposition. Langmere Green Rovers for Tyranny, Bikarish for the Squidbreak, and Catrallo Calcio for the Wanderers.

And so begins the Squidroidian Super League season!

The Midway Point

For the Squidbreak, Squidroidia's army team, they were coasting through the league like a hot knife through butter. After an opening game draw to Tyranny, they would win all of their next 8 games, including a 3-1 win over IFC in the National Derby and a 4-1 win over IFC's cross-town rivals Real... And a 5-0 shellacking of Spartansburg. That run came to an end at the National Derby once more, as Inkopolis FC drew with the Squidbreak 1 all thanks to Akira Honda and an IFC team chalked to the brim with talent. A 12 game unbeaten run to start the season would end at Tower Park against Real Squidroid, but after the halfway mark the Squidbreak are still running away with the league, 9 points ahead of IFC and the Calamari Wanderers, with everybody else fighting for the IFCF spots, especially the new 2nd Champions League spot. Besides the Wanderers and Inkopolis, Los Squidroids sit hot on their tail, 2 points behind the 2 in 4th and occupying the 2nd Challengers Cup spot. Tyranny and Souraoi are 1 and 2 points behind, with a vast gap between them and the bottom 3 - Starlight Boulevard are now fighting for survival, 1 point below guaranteed safety but 1 point above guaranteed relegation.

Quarter 3

It was at this point where Real Squidroid started to hit the gas. The first 2 games in the 2nd half for Los Squidroids, against CL rivals Calamari Wanderers and relegation stragglers Spartansburg City, combined to produce a 9-1 scoreline! But in a tight as ever league like the SSL, something would have to give. Inkopolis FC surged to 2nd following a 2-0 win, in the Takanori Army Base no less, against the Squidbreak in the National Derby to tighten the gap to 2 points, which loosened to 5 points after their bye week and another Squidbreak win. The newfound potential of IFC evaporated like dust and the Squidbreak were sitting on their throne, waiting to be crowned as Squidroidian champions once more... A loss to Northport put a hitch in their plans, and then Souraoi... By the 3/4ths mark, a 9 point gap, thanks to those losses and luck from the challengers turned a 9 point lead and a title party already planned...

...Into a precarious 1 point gap. Their hated rivals in IFC had caught up to them, with the other 3 teams, Real, the Wanderers and Tyranny, all competing for a spot in the Confederations Tournament, while Souraoi hoped to get into the Challengers Cup, and IFCF football in general, for the first time in their club's history. 8 games stood between the victors, whoever they may be, and the spoils...

Matchday 30 - The National Derby

Heading into the match at the Inkopolis City Stadium, Inkopolis FC now stood atop the Squidroidian Super League. Capitalizing on a Squidbreak team losing all passion and ambition to a 4-1 loss to Tyranny Sports Club will do that to anybody. The Squidbreak took their final bye week of the season to convene and talk about this very game - If they were to win on the road in the fiercest, most popular rivalry in Squidroidia, they would be level on points. IFC did draw with that same Tyranny team 3-3 to get their gap above the Squidbreak to 3 points. If they were to lose, the Squidroidian Shield would once again fall to those despised players in blue and orange, the colors of Inkopolis Football Club...

They lost 2-0. In just 12 matchdays, FC Squidroidia Squidbreak went from a comfortable 9 point cushion on top of the Super League to 6 points behind their hated rivals at the top, staring down the barrel of missing Champions League football entirely after results went in the favor of Los Squidroids and the Tyranny. Oh yeah, and Northport were seemingly relegated.

The Squidbreak weren't going down without a fight, at least come Matchday 31, with a 2-0 win over a Starlight team lost at sea. Just last season they were 180 minutes away from Group Stage football and now they were 1 point above a group playoff to determine their place in the Super League for 2026. Matchday 32? Squidbreak draw with Real, and much to the delight of the Squidbreak fateful, Inkopolis were handed an L at Sunrise Park. 2 points was now the gap. The army team needed IFC to drop more points.

Matchday 33. IFC comfortably dispatch Los Squidroids in the Inkopolis Derby 3-0. Squidbreak respond with a 1-0 win over Northport at home.
Matchday 34. Inkopolis beat Northport 4-1... And FC Squidroidia Squidbreak draw with the Calamari Wanderers.

At this point almost all the teams heading to IFCF football were secured, with Tyranny not guaranteed Challengers Cup football quite yet with all but 1 game played while the Calamari Wanderers and Real Squidroid were fighting for the League of Victors shot with the Flying Squids having an outside chance of Champions League football should the Squidbreak faulter. Real also had 1 game remaining on their slate. The title would essentially come down to if the Squidbreak can beat Spartansburg City and if IFC could match the result against the Calamari Wanderers. If they could, they were Squidroidian champions for the 2nd time in the Super League era. If not, it came down to the final day.

Matchday 35 comes around. The Squidbreak get humiliated by Spartansburg City, who jump clear of the Promotion/Relegation Group and send Starlight hoping for a final day miracle. All IFC could do was draw with the Calamari Wanderers 1-1. A choke of monumental proportions. From essentially champions to staring down the real possibility that they would go without Champions League football next season. Inkopolis Football Club went from no IFCF football to Super League champions... In a snap of a finger.

Final Results

After the final day, in which Souraoi got a 0-0 draw with an embarrassed Squidbreak to fall just short of IFCF football, the positions were secured. Inkopolis FC and the Squidbreak would both enter the Champions League together, as well as the FFI League of Victors, while the Calamari Wanderers rounded out the podium and got to the FFI Confederations Tournament. Real Squidroid would end up falling short due to a 1-0 loss to already-relegated Northport Meadows. Tyranny barely hold on to the 5th and final IFCF spot, as Souraoi end up 6th. A 12 point gap separates them and Starlight Boulevard in 7th, who had a miracle to stay up, winning against the Calamari Wanderers as IFC's title coronation against Spartansburg ends with them barely getting past the Ironheads 4-3, sending them down into the Promotion/Relegation Group.

After a Pro/Rel Group relegation last season, Midnight SC had a final day scare against Club Factoria, who were aiming to make the Super League for the first time in their history (And the last before the planned merger of 2027) for the Challenge League title and automatic promotion. But for the majority of the season, it was Newton gunning for promotion, only missing out (And falling to 6th!) after a terrible final stretch which set up the 2 teams and their final day matchups. With Midnight winning against THS (Who were one point away from beating Sawayama to not finish last in the league. Club Factoria will join Spartansburg and Octo Valley, who only got in thanks to Newton finishing their historic choke job as they lost to IFC B, in the Promotion/Relegation Group.

Promotion/Relegation Group

As per tradition, the 2nd and 3rd ranked first teams in the Squidroidian Challenge League and the 8th place team in the Squidroidian Super League would play a single round-robin group stage, with the winner playing in the 2028 Squidroidian Super League and the other 2 sides playing in the Squidroidian Challenge League for next season. A neutral site, this time Tractor Arena in Sawayama, was chosen to host the group.

Heading into the final game of the group, Spartansburg City was almost assured of staying up in the top flight, winning against Club Factoria 2-0 to assure they stayed in the Challenge League in the final season before the merger. The Octolings had other plans - The crimson and purple played a hard fought final game at the confines of Tractor Arena, and with a last gasp goal sent Spartansburg down and Octo Valley back to the Super League.

The top 8 teams from the regular season were put into a single elimination, single-legged tournament with Modified Republica Rules (Extra time and sudden-death shootouts). Teams were seeded based on their record in the Regular Season, and the higher seed will play the matchup at home. Teams will be reseeded for the Semi-Finals and Youth League Final.

Modified Republica Rules will be enforced, with the winner of the Final winning the Squidroidian Youth League and Squidroidia's spot in the IFCF Rising Stars Cup.

2026 - League Meeting

OOC: Since I was inactive for a bit of the summer, I had all my TGs cleared out (Damn you 20 TG limit...). If you had any offers for title sponsorship or TV rights for the SSL or the new Squidroidian Pro League, or are already a TV partner (Tikariot, Quebec, Chromatika, Kohnhead and Græntfjall) of the SSL, you can TG me your offers for the 2026 season for a 5 year deal. This will be added onto SBN's 800 million Yen (Or 800 million NS$) commitment to Squidroidia's top flight.

As a new leaf turned in the calendar (And with prospects already intensified by Squidroidia's first ever World Cup qualification with Super League talent flowing up and down the pitch), the 16 members of Squidroidia's top 2 leagues (Which would soon become a new expanded Squidroidian Super League) met up in the SFA's headquarters in Inkopolis to talk about plans for the season ahead, and lay down a pathwork for the future.

The headlining issue was obvious - The SSL would go back to one Champions League spot for the season before the merger. Turns out that 5 seasons of the Squidroidian Super League, from its original 14 game format to what we have today, meant that results were easy coming and easy going. The first ever IFCF cycle for Squidroidia was huge, and even though (As would later be told) the SSL had another team in the Challengers Cup group stage, it wasn't enough to hold onto spot #2. The teams hoped to get that 2nd spot up and running again when the merger does occur, but that wasn't for certain...

Speaking of the IFCF, wider changes to the competition structure of the multiverse were in store for 2027 as well, coinciding with the SSL merger and the new Squidroidian Reserve League, primarily involving a "Tournament C" that would act as a third rung in the CL-ChC ladder and provide smaller associations with a chance to compete. With the SSL being a league swinging in-between the Top 32 and being outside it, this 3rd competition would feel like something to solidify their ranks, at least in the short term, and keep them in the top 32. Long term, however, it might not be the best way to build up prestige.

Along with these sweeping changes, the IFCF mandated a 20 character limit for club names. As a result, the following names of Squidroidian football clubs will change starting in 2026:

Calamari Wanderers CFC becomes Calamari County FC
Starlight Boulevard FC becomes Starlight SC
Tractor Club Sawayama becomes TS Sawayama

The soon-to-be clubs of the Squidroidian Pro League will also undergo name changes, but that won't occur until 2027.

The once-mentioned idea of high school teams participating in the Squidroidian Youth League has been shelved for the time being, as instead, starting in 2027, all 32 teams in the Super and Pro Leagues, if they haven't already, will form Under 19s teams for the Squidroidian Youth League, which will be held in 4 groups of 8, to be played over 28 matchdays, with the top 2 teams per group advancing to the Finals Cup for a spot in the IFCF Rising Stars Cup. The idea might be brought back in some capacity, with rumors stating that the high school teams might actually join the Squidroidian pyramid somewhere down the line.

And with all of that... Yes, the Squidroidian Cup will expand to 32 teams. Stop bugging them about it. Now GET ON WITH THE SEASON!

So... About that IFCF campaign. You know, the one where both Squidbreak and IFC both made it in? 5 teams from Squidroidia in the IFCF for the first time in history? The game changer the SFA wanted so that they could squeeze in a couple extra Yen to the TV rights deal?

Explain why the Squidroidian military team got handed Northern Union in their first IFCF tie of the season. Explain why neither of the biggest clubs in this country failed to win even one of their CL ties before being booted down to the Challengers Cup.

Okay, let's be honest here, we were just unlucky. The Champions League is super unpredictable at times. Just look at DTM last season, almost got to the Champions League groups before falling to a superior Freeport United (God I hate Freeport United) and therefore became Chartistan's first Challengers Cup group stage side in the process. The madness behind their run should be a documentary all on its own. That's part of the appeal of the Champions League, even if it's in the early rounds for the most part and only occasionally happens at the groups and rarely, if ever, happens in the last 16 and beyond.

And yet the Squidroidian tradition of not making it past 3 rounds of Champions League competition continues. First it was Squidbreak/Northern Union, which, although the Squidbreak fought hard in the 2nd leg, let's face it, that team was no match for the best team in Esportiva bar none from outside their nation, unless you count THAT Walstreim run. They should've beaten that team 4-1 on aggregate, but Squidbreak fans are happy with just about anything that isn't choking the league title to IFC. And speaking of IFC, they also lost in their Champions League tie, a 3rd Qualifying Round matchup against the Metropolis Aligators. Both teams fell back to the Challengers Cup.

The Challengers Cup was a mixed bag for most of the teams. Starting off with Tyranny, they busted through the Preliminary Round with ease against Clinepalas United from Talamia 7-2 on aggregate, which, fun fact, was tied for the biggest blowout of the round, as Chromatik Red League powers Crossroads dismantled the Cincinnati Siege of Eshialand by the same scoreline, before falling to Laugh Now Cry Later in the First Qualifying Round 4-1 on aggregate, the same Chartistani team that would embarrass V-League powerhouses the Turoki Tide with, once again, a 7-2 aggregate scoreline in what has GOT to be high on the list of "Turoki Tide Moments to Forget".

Real Squidroid tumbled to Tumbra's tumbling bunch that tumbled via the quite tumbling name of Lakewood United by a tumbling scoreline of 4-3 on aggregate, and there was no Squidroidian club in the 2nd Qualifying Round. There happens to be a club from Brookstation by the name of FC 69 Norwegian Wood, and they spent the 2nd qualifying round, oh, shocking FC Felsenkirchen 1879 hard with 2 impressive 1-0 wins, including one at Molin Park to slip the mighty side out. Nice.

The Squidbreak popped up once again in the 3rd Qualifying Round only to crash and burn and explode like a tank against Sterling City United, a name Wanderers fans would surely remember from that group stage appearance. As the Wanderers become just simply Calamari County FC (CCFC for short), they would dismantle Hadford Hill from Flavovespia 5-0 on the Aggro-Crag and entered Qualifying Round 4 with New Bremen staring them down the barrel. They would lose to the club from Baker Park 2-1 on aggregate and failed to score a goal in the 2nd leg at County Stadium.

And so, here we are now. With the Squidroidian Super League season about to begin, IFC only have the Lumineers of The Quagpire standing in their way between themselves and their first IFCF group stage appearance. Factoria and Midnight can also make the Liga B groups as well, but that isn't really important unless this really is the last Liga B Champions Trophy to ever be held. May the season begin...
