For the last 182 years, the United Press has graced the cover of quality news reporting. What began as a pony express route to cover the country's conflict against Spanish imperialism in the Emmerian Isles south of the subcontinent, has now become a leader in the international media reporting industry, covering every significant event since commencing international operations in the 1880s. Now owned by a host of newspapers and radio and television stations, the UP contributes high-quality stories with a tradition of accuracy, reliability, and speed in reporting to headline the array of modern world journalism. Commonly described as the "Marine Corps" of news reporting, the UP is always the first in, last out, always innovating to stay ahead of the game. Now it continues to serve the people of the world, a storied pioneer amidst a playing field of giants, one in which it remains benevolent and everlasting king.
—Mason Goldwater, President and CEO of the United Press
The United Press (UP; officially United Press Group) is an Emmerian nonprofit news cooperative providing worldwide news coverage in the form of a wire service to its contributing newspapers and radio and television stations in the United Republic of Emmeria. It has its own online news service, television broadcasting service (UPTV), and radio (UPR).
The UP is owned cooperatively by a number of organizations in the United Republic, each of which contribute to the organization and utilize stories and coverage written by its staff and journalists. Media outlets may also subscribe to the UP, receiving the rights to utilize UP articles on their newspapers, websites, and more.
The UP has reporters in most countries and provides coverage of events across the globe. The organization was founded in February 1831 when a number of newspapers in Emmerian economic hub Chaleur collectively funded a mail service route from Chaleur to southern states in order to share the cost of covering the First Spanish-Emmerian War of 1831. It began international operations towards the late 19th century, and now has correspondents in a wide array of countries.
The UP is a member of the Pardesian News Network, a multinational initiative to provide significant coverage of events in Pardes to local Pardesians and the rest of the world.
