I can`t see the Liberals rallying behind anyone in particular. Anyone from the frontbenchers with any presence in public discourse has already either gone for the position and been defeated, resigned due to scandals, taken out of Cabinet positions when the PM changed, or been ousted from the PMship in the past. There`s very few popular figures left, so they`ll have to pull someone new out, and getting 2/3rds majority approval for a relative nobody is going to be hard when such circumstances mean lots of relative nobodies will try to replace ScoMo.

Great looks like Australia's stuck with Scott Morrison until 2022 at least.

The Coalition has 77 members in Parliament, which is only one above the threshold for a majority. Are there any Liberals that are going to buck the party line and caucus with the opposition? Of course not since Morrison and his cronies will shackle them to the party line and refuse any sort of dissent.

It just goes to show that the Liberals and other right wingers don't actually care about the economy, not really, and certainly aren't good economic managers. Tourism supports far more jobs than coal, not to mention the fact that the devastation to land and ecosystems will have ongoing chain effects on the economy for years, particularly in rural areas.

Ecosystem services are difficult to value with a discrete monetary value, because they are so delicately and heavily intertwined with literally everything. As such, it will be difficult to actually ascertain the exact cost to our economy.

It feels like the world is run by people who know the price of everything, but the value of nothing.

If you look at today's news, federal money to re-establish tourism is all over it. Sorry, but your ideological enemy isn't as stupid as you expect.

Well that may be true, but they do know the cost of tourism.

To be cynical, some money spent on habitat restoration and nurturing the endangered species would be good politics too.

I was referring to their climate policy more generally. Their lack of it, and their enthusiastic support for the coal industry contributes to global climate change as well as more direct and immediate environmental impacts, all of which threaten tourism in the long run.

Well, with Scott Morrison's experience in marketing, maybe he can come up with a new catchy slogan for a new tourism campaign that really emphasizes the burnt national parks and choking smoke in cities.

Now replace all the beautiful skies with choking smog and all the lush forests with the ashes of burnt forest and Scott Morrison can use his marketing skills there!

When I was in uni (about half a decade ago) Australia had the highest carbon emissions per capita. Now Australia is down to second highest. That's an improvement, a pretty ammenic improvement, I'll admit, but nonetheless, an improvement
