Calling an atheist a heretic, for being an atheist, would not be an accurate statement so yeah that would be rightfully confusing. You’re projecting because you’re using me as a stand in for everyone whose used that word in a way you didn’t like/understand.

As for your rule of thumb is say nyet. While in general discourse that maybe, this is the Christian Discussion Thread where Christians of many stripes debate Christian theology. The word heretic flies freely in here.

Big Jim P is a LaVeyan Satanist. They’re atheists for the most part, worshiping self actualization rather than a deity. The use of Milton’s character of Lucifer as a figure head is entirely metaphorical not literal. They’re not Christians so they can’t be considered “heretics”

As for Theistic Satanists, well yes they actually worship The Adversary. Can’t say I would call them Christians, or heretics, more “anti-Christians”

Just saw this. There are so many good ones that everyone else has mentioned, but I have to go with Theodosius I. Not just because he was the first emperor to make Christianity the state religion, but because he seems to be the first one to take its moral commandments seriously, when he repented for a massacre he committed, something that had not been seriously done before, so, while he's not the only Christian ruler to take that kind of stand, he set a precedent for doing so.

I don't object to calling Mary the Queen of Heaven - the mother of a king is a queen, after all - but the fact that he said her and not her Son is what would've set me from 4-6 months ago off into a Reformationist rant.
