The Paripana Sporting Council invites the world’s greatest sportsmen and sportswomen to convene in Aeropag, Paripana for the first World Games, a multi-sport festival for non-Olympic events.
Signups are now closed.
INSTRUCTIONS
Do not post “placeholders”, “provisional signups”, and the like. These serve no purpose, and may result in your entries being missed if you edit them in afterward (see the section about corrections).
Copy the list of events below. Under each event, put the names of the athletes that you wish to participate in that event, if any—if you are not sending anyone to participate in an event, remove it from the list. The number in brackets after each event indicates the maximum number of entries each national World Games committee may have in that event. If only a number is shown—e.g., “[2]”—it is an individual event, and you must give the name of each individual (though you may enter fewer than the maximum number). If a team events has a specific team size indicated—e.g., “[1 team of 4]”—you must give the name of each team member; all four names should be on the same line. If a team event just says “[1 team]”, you must not give the names of the team members here; rosters for those events belong in the roster thread.
In your signup, you should specify your national committee’s three-letter code; if you do not, one will be assigned to you.
ENTRY LIMITS
Each national committee may have a delegation of no more than 200 entries, exculding entries in invitational events. An entry consists of one individual or one team entering one event—this means, e.g., that a team of four in one event counts as a single entry, while a single athlete participating in two events counts as two entries.
You may have two separate delegations (i.e., a master nation and a puppet nation), so long as you declare that these belong to the same person. The entry limit applies separately to each of them, so the two nations combined may have as many as 400 entries. You may enter more than one puppet, as long as you declare that all of them belong to the same person, the total number of entries across all of your nations is no more than 400, and no more than two of your nations enter any particular event.
SKILL MODIFIERS
Optionally, you can put a skill modifier after each of your athletes, in parentheses. Skill modifiers are whole numbers from 0 to 100: 0 for the worst athletes and 100 for the best. Skill modifiers are assigned per entry, as explained above; a team of four has a single skill modifier, while an athlete participating in multiple events has a separate modifier for each event. The average of all modifiers in a delegation, excluding invitational events, may be at most 50; any delegation with a higher average will have its modifiers reduced. The average of all modifiers for invitational events which are held must also be no more than 50; modifiers for invitational events which are not held will be excluded from this average.
If any of your skill modifiers end with 8, please check the “Disable smilies” option before you post.
JOINT TEAMS
Multiple national committees may choose assemble a joint team for any team event. Such a team will be considered as counting toward the entry limits and skill modifier average of each nation involved (and must be given the same skill modifier by each person entering it). When entering a joint team, you must list the national committees involved, and if the event does not use individual athlete names (i.e., it says “[1 team]”), you will need to give the team a name.
ROSTER THREAD
You can put any additional information about your delegation—e.g., team rosters, flag bearer, and national anthem—in the roster thread. The signup thread should be limited to information important to the signup process—i.e., entries, TLAs, invitational sports, and discussion.
DEADLINE
All delegations should be posted by 16:00 UTC on Friday, 2011-10-21. Signups after this deadline may be accepted or rejected at my discretion; very small delegations are more likely to be accetped. The World Games will run from Tuesday, 2011-10-25 to Monday, 2011-11-07, with the opening ceremony on 2011-10-24. A schedule of events will be provided after signups have closed and the format of each event has been set.
CORRECTIONS
Please do not edit your signup post if more than twenty-four hours have passed since you posted it, or if the deadline for signups has passed. If you need to make a correction, indicate the changes you wish to make in a new post. Corrections made after the signup deadline may or may not be accepted, depending on the severity of the change.
INVITATIONAL EVENTS
Invitational events will be held should there be sufficient demand. Invitational events will not be considered official World Games events; medals will be awarded differing from those awarded in the official events. Invitational events must meet the following requirements in order to be considered:
- The event must not be contested at the Games of the Olympiad. This affects the sports of aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoeing/kayaking, cycling, equestrian, fencing, (association) football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling. Events in these sports may only be proposed if they are different from the Olympic events.
- The event must not require snow or ice.
- The event must not require special facilities not available in Aeropag. (I’ll evaluate this after an event is proposed, since you probably don’t have a complete inventory of what is available in Aeropag.)
- A list of events within the sport. This may involve a split into men’s and women’s events, a series of weight classes, a series of distances, or whatever similar categorization is relevant to the sport. Some or all of these events may be consolidated if interest levels are not sufficient to sustain every possible event; you should specify if there are any events that are sufficiently dissimilar that their entrants cannot be funneled into a single event.
- A set of sample results for the sport that can be used to set up a scorinator for it. If the sport is fictitious, either a set of fictitious results will be needed, or a statement that the results are similar enough to some other sport that the same scorination parameters can be used. If results differ for each event within the sport, sample results will be needed for each event. If the sport is already available in xkoranate, ignore this requirement.
- A brief explanation of the competition format that should be used. This can take the form of a reference to a real-life competition (a link to information should be provided unless the format follows that of an event in the Olympic Games or World Games), or a detailed explanation if the sport requires some unique format.
- The maximum number of individuals or teams that each national committee should be permitted to enter in each event, and, for team events, the size of the team.
EXAMPLE ENTRY
This is the preferred format for entries; it need not be followed precisely, but entries with exceptionally poor formatting may be rejected. Do not enclose your entries in spoiler tags, unless you’re trying to hide them from me, in which case you probably won’t see them participate in their respective events.
