Luna Primum (Political/Character RP) - OOC

The year is 2025. Through a joint-international effort, the beginning of the first permanent lunar colony has been realized. A group of colonists from all across the globe have traveled to the moon, following the successful deployment of a lunar shelter. The colony was established in the center of the Sea of Cold, Mare Frigoris. Now, the rest is up to you. You are the very first Lunar pioneers, and you must overcome the inherent struggles of living on another celestial body. There are fifty-eight of you, to begin, though as the colony expands, and more are created, that number will increase. The crippling emptiness of space is only lessened by the presence of your fellow crew members. As a group, you must decide what direction this colony will take. Never before has there been such a civilization, made up of people from all different nationalities, with such limitless possibilities on how to proceed. What culture will this new civilization have? With no guidance or direction from Earth, how will decisions be made? How will you shape the first Lunar colony? Will you lead the colony to greatness, or will you go insane from the crushing loneliness of the moon, and murder everyone else?
The first colony is essentially a biodome. The reason it had to be set up was so a fairly large quantity of water could be sent up, as well as trees to recycle the oxygen. There's an airlock on one side of the biodome, and on the other side is a doorway to a large building, almost the height of the biodome, which contains food stockpiles, quarters, several bathrooms (which recycle urine into water, and feces into fertilizer for the rest of the dome, after sterilization, obviously), offices, a kitchen, the Lunar Council chamber, a communications center on the top floor, and many currently unused rooms. The dome itself contains fruit growing trees, but as of yet, no other farming has begun. I will most likely repurpose those empty rooms once they are needed. Just outside of the Dome is a large nuclear reactor. It's just a hop, a skip, and a jump away from the airlock, really.
Now that we've gotten the exposition out of the way, let's get down to brass tacks. This is effectively the spiritual successor to my previous "New Nation" RP, that I made a while back. Many of the mechanics are similar, but there's plenty different, and the possibilities are even more unlimited, as we're no longer confined by Earth. In this RP, everyone will play a character. Politically, there are multiple factions vying for political control. In the beginning of the RP, there will be a Lunar Council, established by my character. All colonists are automatically members, as there are only fifty-eight colonists. Beyond those details, however, almost anything goes. Personal relationships may bud between characters, crew members can, as mentioned before, kill one another, and in addition, further colonies may be founded at some point in the future, depending on how far the RP gets. I would say that the sky is the limit, but as we're on the moon, the limit is even higher than that. As long as you RP well, you can just about do whatever you want. I'll explain further gameplay mechanics below, and some other guidelines as well. If there are any questions, I'll be happy to answer them. Now, some other tidbits:
- At the end of every IC month, there will be a delivery of supplies for the colony. The Lunar Council decides what to request from Earth. This is subject to change, if, for instance, the colony loses the support of the international community after literally becoming the Fourth Reich or something.
- I am the OP, and Blorbs is currently my co-OP.
- You can play any reasonable number of characters, but you can only create one faction. That being said, your characters may still be members of other factions created by other players.
- Just so you know, I usually get online at around 3:00 PM CST.
- Technology is at, vaguely, near-future levels. I'm going to allow any plausible technology, but I cannot stress the plausible part of that statement enough.
- There's really no set procedure for when time passes, and I won't interfere with the passage of it, unless you people are still playing on the same day a week from when the IC is posted or something.
- I'm not sure whether or not I want a separate Lunar Council thread. If you guys ask for it, I'll make it, but otherwise, I'll create a poll in the IC thread for real players to vote.
- Nothing is permanent, and something like the Lunar Council could be dissolved at any time. This is a very volatile RP with a large amount of freedom.
- This RP isn't hyper-realistic, but keep things in the realm of reality and plausibility. Sorry guys, but this means no aliens. This is closer to science fact than science fiction.
- If necessary, I'll create a map of the colonies, and who controls what land on the moon.
- No godmodding, metagaming, etc. Standard fare for RPs of this nature. I can provide examples of both, if necessary, but I would honestly be surprised if someone here didn't know what either of those things were.
- There is no such thing as the magic of convenience. I would say this is probably the most important rule. If you stage a takeover of the colony, you need to work out the logistics first. Where you got the weapons, who's helping you, etc.
- Sort of playing off of the above rule, everything your characters do must be in character for them. If someone who is the sanest person in the room suddenly starts speaking in tongues and sabotages the colony's reactor or something, I'm not allowing it.
- You cannot control anything but your characters, and the NPCs in your faction. Though rule one technically already tells you this, I want to make this absolutely clear. I swear, if someone does something really stupid like saying that a solar flare destroys Earth, and now the colony is doomed, I will kick them out of the RP with absolutely no warning.
- Please be civil to each other. I don't want this thread to devolve into a flame war.
- Anyone can die, but only if its their own fault. I know, this detracts from the "anything can happen" vibe, but I don't want someone rage quitting because someone shuts off the oxygen in the middle of the night. That being said, if someone attempt to take down a knife-wielding assailant with a spoon, they die.
- I want good, quality RPing, and grammar, in the IC at least. If your first post goes something like "captain handsome went in the moon house", it isn't going to fly. Also, your posts should be at the very least six or seven sentences. There's no upper limit, I don't care if your post is longer than the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
- This RP is in English. Your characters, if foreign, can speak in their native language if you want, but you must provide translations.
