Final Debate; 2 Weeks Until the Polls Open

It was the final debate, in the St-Simeon Centre for the Study of Politics. Here's a transcript of the debate, which was on the subject of "Sicoutian Affairs," debating healthcare, education, the status of San Cristobal, and other important things.

M-Mediator, C-Coaches, R-Roberval, B-Brebeur

M-"Welcome to the second and final debate of the 2019 Sicoutian Election. This debate will have 3 questions. So, it's time for the first question. Recently, people on the island of San Cristobal have called to be separated from the province of St-Simeon. They want there own province. What is your government's response to this?"

C-"Well, if the people want it, then the Social Democratic Union will take the necessary steps to make that possible. This could include calling a referendum, meeting with representatives from St-Simeon province, San Cristobal, and the minister of Provincial Affairs."

R-"Industries are strong on San Cristobal, and recent studies show that it could survive as its own province. If the people want it, my government would make it a priority to follow through with the people's requests."

B-"San Cristobal would become a province under a Communist government."

M-"Okay. Second question: What will your government do about the current healthcare system in this country?"

C-"We believe that the healthcare system implemented under the current government is working just fine, and will continue to use that system."

R-"Our government would implement Free Healthcare, and I would also like to ask how a system that makes waiting lines in hospitals long for sick people, who wait to be asked simply 'cash or credit, sir?' okay, Mr. Coaches? This has not happened to me personally, but there are people who have not received proper treatment for sickness because they can't pay all the medical bills. If the government doesn't want to make it completely free, at least be willing to reduce the price so that everyone can afford healthcare."

B-"All comrades will be given proper healthcare treatment under the Communist government."

M-"Okay, time for the third question. With tensions rising across the region, should the government buy more surface-to-air defences to protect Sicoutimont's citizens if a war should break out?"

C-"Sicoutimont will not be involved in any foreign war. The only way Sicoutians will see combat action is if the national territory of Sicoutimont or her allies are threatened. Therefore, any nation launching a missile at Sicoutimont, a neutral, peaceful nation, would face the full brunt of the Sicoutian Armed Forces, in the sea, air and land. With surface-to-air defences already installed around major urban centres, the government does not need to purchase more,"

R-"As Mr. Coaches said, the government already has bought these positions and deployed them around the country; the majority of Sicoutimont's population are safe. However, those who threaten the security of our nation will meet a bad ending, as Mr. Coaches said, the full brunt of the Sicoutian Armed Forces will be directly upon them."

B-"Surface-to-air defences are important, and will be added around all major urban cities, along with bunkers to protect the population."

R-"Mr. Brebeur, why would you waste money on things we already have? The government, to its credit, has added Surface-to-air defences to protect the population, and bunkers can be as simple as old subway stations, or basements still fortified from the last time this was a threat. Mr. Brebeur, Sicoutians will not vote to waste money on things they already have."

M-"Thanks for answering the questions, and be sure to turn out June 25 to vote in the election for a candidate that just spoke, or one that didn't appear here on stage tonight,"

Our sources tell us that Charles-Jean Roberval won tonight's debate, and the polls show that. Here's the latest results:

On June 25, Who Are You Most Likely To Vote For?
Social Democratic Union-45%
Labour Party of Sicoutimont-46%
Communist Party of Sicoutimont-7%
Other-2%

Labour pull ahead for the first time in the campaign. However, in the situation we have in Sicoutimont, popular vote might not necessarily win the most seats. It'll be very close, as SDU and Labour have been virtually tied in the polls recently. In other important news, the Darmeni government has endorsed Niles Coaches; which helps his anti-War cause. Tune in for our next report, on the night before the election and the final polling results.

Royales Beat Kinzar in Final Match of 1st Half of Qualis
Stade St-Pierre was packed to see the final game of the first half of the group stage of the World Cup Qualifying tournament, between Sicoutimont and Kinzar. The game started excitingly, with the Kinzites and Sicoutians tied 2-2 after the first half. Thomas Bradford scored first for the Kinzar, in the 25th minute. Girard Giroux would score in the 31st and 33rd, and Micheal Sanders tied the match in the 43rd minute. The next 25 minutes were scoreless, until the 72nd minute, when Neal Kent scored for Les Royales to go up 3-2. Stan Sarault would score for us again in the 81st, putting the Sicoutians up 4-2, the final result of the game. Here's the box score, from http://www.footybets.scm!

World Cup Qualifing MD 9
Sicoutimont vs Kinzar @Stade St-Pierre
Sicoutimont 4--------Kinzar 2
Giroux 31' Bradford 25'
Giroux 33' Sanders 43'
Kent 72'
Sarault 81'

And, with the first half of qualifying over, here's the Group 15 standings!

Group 15 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Jeruselem 9 7 1 1 18 8 +10 22
2 Yesopalitha 9 6 1 2 9 2 +7 19
3 Sicoutimont 9 5 3 1 27 19 +8 18
4 Northern Sunrise Islands 9 4 3 2 17 15 +2 15
5 Maklohi Vai 9 4 2 3 14 8 +6 14
6 New Sideburn 9 4 0 5 13 20 −7 12
7 Yelvoldia 9 3 1 5 21 20 +1 10
8 Basque Socialist States 9 3 1 5 12 16 −4 10
9 Rikatan 9 1 1 7 9 19 −10 4
10 Kinzar 9 1 1 7 7 20 −13 4

At most, the top 2 in the group will qualify; at least the winner of the group. Les Royales are 1 point out of second, and 4 points out of 1st; wins against Rikatan, Maklohi Vai, and 1 of Yesopalitha or Jeruselem if we keep our current record could see us get through; but that would be a perfect record, which is very unlikely. However, Les Royales are unbeaten at home, and with 5/9 of the remaining games at home, that is a good sign. It all comes down to how the cards fold, and they'll fold on the second half Tuesday, June 24, at 2:30pm at Stade St-Pierre, for Sicoutimont vs Rikatan: the team who still have not released a roster being the only one to beat Les Royales so far. Tune in to catch the game, on TV, radio, or follow us here at the Lac-Drouin Times!

One of the odd things about TSE was co-ed locker rooms. Since many stadiums they went to had only 1 "away" locker room, the guys had to get dressed with the girls. Many teams look down on the practice, but Coach LK and the team believe that since the team has a religious background, the moral integrity of the team would stay intact. That being said, the locker room still had the highest concentration of gossip of anywhere in the stadium.

HS: "You really expect us to believe that the highest ranked official in all of the Empire called you attractive and gave you a spontaneous hug?"
LS: "Yeah MB, pics or it didn't happen!"
(chuckles throughout the surrounding area)
MB: "I swear it happened! Honest!"
HS: "You might have just had a super-realistic dream. You've had a dry spell in the romance area lately, your mind might be sending you subliminal messages."
MB: "What? That's crazy. I mean, the subliminal message part. I admit to the dry spell thing. I guess I am just a little lonely, and maybe I'm getting my hopes too high."
HS: "Doesn't get much higher than El Presidante himself. Although I've heard rumors that since Greg is single himself, and he might be starting to look for...famous athletes you'd say."

Just then, the locker room door barged open. Greg Sova walked briskly in, and everyone jumped up and saluted. "As you were", he calmed them down with ease. "I was unaware of these rumors. I guess my intelligence squad isn't quite doing their job. I'll have to hire some of you guys after the World Cup." He turned to the coach. "I'm sorry to appear on such short notice, but seeing that this is the last game of the first half, I wanted to show my personal support for the team. Also, I see there might be some...personal questions that I should be answering. Bottom line is, I don't want to be a typical leader that just sits back and watches from a distance. I want to be an active Leader, so with your permission, I'd like to ride the bench with you guys."

LK shrugged. "I see no problem. Don't expect too much though, we are up against Powersith, a powerful team, for sure. The stadium is just out that door there, if you'd like to have a word with the players, I'd advise waiting until everyone is in uniform, but you may talk with them."

"Thanks" Greg made his way past the players who were changing and he shielded his eyes. Decency was a big deal to him. As he almost made it to the stadium door, he noticed MB looking down with a glum face. Greg thought it would be a good idea to comfort her. "I just wanted to apologize for my irrational behavior at the mansion a few days ago. If the hug made you feel uncomfortable, I am truly sorry." MB raised her head, and slowly stood up. "No apology is necessary. It turns out I had a much better day because of it. Thanks for attempting to reconcile though." With that, MB opened her arms, and Greg gave her a heartfelt hug that gave both parties a tingling feeling that neither had felt in a long time. With that, they both made their way out to the bench.

The inspiration of having a powerful figure that cared on their own bench, the team seemed to play better than they had ever played this tournament. They made cleaner passes, and MB was more accurate with her shooting than ever. The Powersith goalie was taking a barrage of shots, and by the time 90 minutes were up, 3 had gone in. ZP had done a fantastic job of goaltending, as only 1 goal was allowed. Greg could not be more proud of his team, as his first-year team had upset one of the giants of the group by a score of 3-1.

Michelle Salad and Princess Katy looking at the new Jeru FC calendar ...

Michelle: Interesting
Katy: They look a bit younger than they really are
Michelle: That's probably because they retouched the photos
Katy: Sis is truly hot
Michelle: I don't think people would notice the difference if you replaced your sister in the calendar
Katy: Hey, they would

Michelle: I wouldn't
Katy: I'm taller than her and she has redder hair
Michelle: So you're more like Dad
Katy; Yes, explains why I'm such a lousy football player
Michelle: You're not that bad
Katy: Definitely not World Cup standard

Michelle: I've seen a lot worse
Katy: I'm not interested in club level football
Michelle: You like travel
Katy: Yes, working as TV reporter gives one that
Michelle: You just like being naked on TV
Katy: That too

Michelle: I wouldn't never do anything like that
Katy: Depends on your upbringing
Michelle: I guess it does ...
Katy: Each to their own
Michelle: I'm not one for showing off
Katy: I noticed that

Michelle: His girlfriend just hates all this stuff
Katy: She thinks women should be hidden in the kitchen
Michelle: Not quite but ...
Katy: You got a daughter?
Michelle: Yes, she's younger
Katy: What's she like?

Michelle: She's a bit flightly and tempermental
Katy: Aren't they all like that?
Michelle: She's got images of your sister on her wall
Katy: Well, sis is a good role model
Michelle: I guess she's just being a teenager
Katy: Don't you worry

Michelle: I always worry
Katy: Explains the grey hairs
Michelle: I have to work with people like you
Katy: You need someone to annoy you everyday. What's her name?
Michelle: Elizabeth
Katy: I'm one of those too

Michelle: How come you don't use that name
Katy: Oh, I hate being called LIZ ... LIZZY
Michelle: Really
Katy: Sounds like LIZARD

For the first time in quite a while, Cassadaigua and Qazox faced off and Qazox survived a late onslaught of shots by the Dagans to preserve their 6 game winning streak. Danielle Leonard started the scoring in the 17th minute and the sellout crowd was roaring. But Qazox answered in the 35th minute, when Florence Schumer nicked home a goal past a diving Lauren Kearns. The half broke tied 1-all, but Qazox took the lead for good in the 56th minute when Jesse Hilton slammed home a shot from 10 yards out giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead. The two teams traded goals in the 77th and 84th minutes (Courtney Dekker for Cassadaigua;Kevin McLaren for Qazox respectively). The last 3 minutes of both regulation and the subsequent 4 minutes of injury time saw Cassadaigua launch 9 shots (6 on net) at Holly Wood, but somehow nothing went in. With a 6-3-0 record, and a +17 Goal Differential, Qazox has done better than what many experts have expected. After the mid-qualifying break, a showdown between Qazox and Polar Islandstates looms with 1st place in the group at stake.

Laken sat in the middle of her room and carefully weighed her situation. According to the woman who fed her, the Goblin was gone from this place for a while and after laken had pleaded to her for help the door had not been closed fully and locked when she left. This might just be her only chance to escape this hellish place. This might be the one time she would be able to gain her freedom. Or it might be an eleborate trap set by the Goblin himself and just beyond the hope that the door offered he was waiting. He was waiting for her attempt so that he could crush it fully and devour any hope she still held of escape. She sat there frozen for more than an hour as she debated the differences in the two outcomes in her mind. If she didn’t move soon it would all be over as her fear made the decision for her.

But she had to move. The fear of what would come if she did not outweighed any fear of what would happen if she did. Slowly she crossed the grimy floor to peer expectantly through the small crack left when it did not fully close. She could see nothing save the small candle burning gently in its small sconce on the far wall. But she had grown accustomed to not being able to see in the near complete darkness her room exuded. She looked more with her ears now. She could tell as soon as the Goblin or the old woman entered the hall. She could tell when one of the many rats came scurrying down the carpeted hall. And yet now she heard nothing. This was it. This was her chance to find a way out…

“We apologize for the need to interrupt your current programming to bring you this special broadcast from Stadii se Draggonnii Arca.”

The news anchor had obviously been unprepared for this live broadcast as her hair was pulled loosely into a ponytail where it was usually fixed nicely and for the majority of the hundred plus million viewers it was the first time they had seen her wearing her pink horned-rimmed glasses.

“Tragedy has struck yet again where the Sea Dragons are concerned. Shortly following the victory here over visiting Legalese reserve midfielder Estaine Che'ia was reported missing from the training compound underneath the stadii. Found near her locker was a vase and two dozen red roses, the same as was found when Laken Kim'athu disappeared from her SBU dormitory nearly two months ago. Despite massive efforts from Kelsey police, no clues have been found to help solve that case and a preliminary search here offers little more.

The Sea Dragons have been placed under the protection of the Royal Guard which has assigned two guards for every player on the squad. These guards will even accompany the national side on their away fixtures and requests have been made for the Guard to even be present on the sidelines during matches. With two of their younger female players now missing the Sea Dragons are willing to take no further chances. Some have even speculated that the Sea Dragons might be pulled from the tourney altogether but that would be an extreme solution which would also allow former Sea Dragon players now playing under the name Vagabonds to represent the empire for the remainder of the qualifiers and perhaps the World Cup itself. This is all speculative at this point, but the rumor is out there.

We will bring you more on this situation as it becomes available to us. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.”

"Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned."
-Song of Songs 8:7

"I told you Neuman had it in him! I mean, I used to play against the kid. I don't think I've ever seen a finer keeper. Not even old Luddy. You hear he broke the goals against record?"

Norm's elation was visible from a mile away. Clearly he was enjoying the victory over Armed Bears, which he had been watching with Eliza Banner in one of the New München base's breakrooms. The final few minutes had been a nail-biting succession of ursine attacks as the visitors attempted to go home with a point.

"Yeah, I guess you were right," laughed Eliza. "Not that I wanted them to score. I just couldn't imagine myself keeping composed with a bunch of bears barreling down on me."

"Well, thankfully its a win. We're bound to lose eventually, but for now, we may as well celebrate."

As Eliza filled her glass, she began to offer one to Norm, before remembering.

"So what exactly do you celebrate with, if not with a few good drinks?"

Norm took a moment to answer; it wasn't something he had really thought about consciously before.

"Well, I suppose I just savor the moment. Revel with people I like."

"Fair enough," she replied. "So hey, did I tell you about that op we ran in Beatusia last week?"

Norm thought, then shook his head.

"Well, it was definitely one of the stranger ones I've been on. We were getting reports of secessionists on the eastern island, perhaps supported by the Pennsylvanians. Turns out that last part couldn't have been further from the truth. The entire compound ended up being a bunch of religious nutcases who were absolutely convinced that the GPC was actually the instrument of the devil, and they were gearing up to fight over it. It's always messy when the intelligence is off like that.

"Anyway, these guys had enough of a stockpile to take Iron Harbor, and they'd used it, too, the last time to colonial police force had come to investigate. The weirdest part, though, was that when we took out their leader, they just kind of gave up. It was as if all of their fervor had come from that one man, and a bullet from my R2 had been all that was necessary to quell it."

"Cut off the head of a snake..."

Those sorts of missions always were the strangest. The Arbitrat of Force filled a strange role in the Empire. It was the dagger in the Emperor's outstretched hand, waiting to plunge into those who would threaten Gordonopia. At the same time, it handles the most extreme opponents of the government within Gordonopia itself; not so much a secret police as an enforcement squad. Most operations were standard black operations fair. Others, though, like dealing with the occasional fundie in Gordonopia's far-flung territories, or the ongoing case against Kalinin, were more complicated.

"You know," Norm continued, "I found out that I had my own cult one time. Did I ever tell you about that?"

Eliza laughed, a hint of disbelief pervading her tone, "Oh really? Tell my about this cult of Bates."

"No kidding here. It was long before I joined Force, hell, it was even before the War. Apparently some people from Tolten's underbelly made my rags-to-riches out to be some kind of messiah story. I guess by being good at football, I was somehow going to deliver the city to a new beginning. I wish I could have claimed the credit for doing that, but I have to hand it to the Emperor. Maybe they're still out there worshiping him instead of me."

After smiling at the thought, Elize reached down for her glass, but accidentally grabbed Norm's hand instead. For a brief moment, it sat there, but quickly, she seemed to recoil.

Ever since that night, several months ago now, there had been a hint of uncertainty between the two. They got along so well, and in fact were together so often that many others simply assumed that they had something. Norm always regretted having to deny it, a new feeling for him; while he had never been to concerned before, when he had had the well-deserved reputation of being a womanizer, something about Eliza was different. Norm had always been interested in talented women, so that was certainly part of it. But there was something more, some way she understood him, that gave him a sense that he wasn't simply after another 'conquest'.

Now, that uncertainty was the elephant in the room. So far, they had managed to avoid bringing it up. So far.

Eliza seemed to have a kind of guilty look on her face as she pulled her hand back. Silence permeated the room for what seemed like hours, until she hesitantly broke it.

"Hey, about that night. You know, the one just before we played the Holy Empire?"

Norm only nodded in reply.

"I... I've felt bad about leaving you hanging like that. For months, now. I think I owe you an explanation."

"You know," Norm said carefully, "If you'd rather not tell me, I understand."

"No," she said, "You should know. I may as well put it all on the table and say that I do have feelings for you. I just... I can't be with you. More than as friends, I mean. You don't know how hard it is to be a woman in Force. If I were to become attached to a man... I don't know what they would do."

Norm saw her point. She had already been denied one dream earlier in life; professional football simply wasn't open for women in Gordonopia. The chance of losing what she had put so much of her heart into, serving in the field with Force, had to be too much to risk.

"I understand," Norm replied, "I guess for now... for now we'll have to let it go."

For now.
If you ever have an RPing question, please TG me about it.

Sideburnese Steel!
2-0 down, but with nothing to lose against the top team. Okay, so Anna Shrike bringing down one of their players in the box? Suboptimal. A second goal to a direct free kick just after the break? Not really all that much that could be done. But they were playing here, with true grit and physicality. And Chase Wingett had the ball at his feet and the world ahead of him.

Tara Lockdown and Gerd Thunder towered over their markers. Karelline Charmwell was open in space. So was Cheney Rosewood.

Destiny was at hand for him to do the most skilled thing possible.

Chase Wingett hoofed the ball in the direction of the box as hard as he could. It wafted past Gerhard, but Tara was there to smash it in with her head. She wheeled away in celebration of a first goal for her country.

Though the final whistle blew seventeen minutes later, New Sideburn was satisfied. They could well have won, with a bit more luck. And there'd been a decent bit of fighting; blood was dripping from Lucia's forehead. She laughed, weakly, and Chase joined her laughter. Right here, right now, they were threats. The world would take them seriously.

EXCLUSIVE! Interview of Lucia Oakwood
by Matt Hope of the Brinemouth Herald

Lucia Oakwood sits at the coffee table, a scab still lying where she bled so iconically four days ago in the photograph that has already spread all over the nation. She's dressed in a conservative but feminine fashion, short hair, loose shirt and a long skirt, and apologises for being late. I glance at my watch; just three minutes after the arranged time. She's got a rather Integristani efficiency about her; fitting, considering her Integristani grandfather, and an upbringing in Treason. She orders a long black and leans back in her chair, inclining her head. "Whenever you're ready," she says, calmly.

MH: So, Lucia! How's your day been so far?
LO: It's been alright. Started out with the cats waking me up, but it got better from then. You?
MH: Me? Oh, I've been alright. Enjoying the coffee. Do you always take coffee here?
LO: Not always, but definitely more often than others. Best coffee this side of Treason, and it's just fifteen minutes' walk away. Anyway, I'm sure you didn't come here to ask about coffee.
MH: No, indeed! So, you've been one of the most consistent performers for your club and country; it's those national performances that have impressed the nation most. You've shown real quality as a holding midfielder.
LO: *laughs* Thank you!
MH: Well, it's true! But it has to be said, the Cormorants seem to have met their match overseas. What's it like, facing these often technically superior opponents?
LO: I don't really like this phrase, 'technically superior'... it gets thrown around a lot. But what is technique? We're good at getting a result through rapid, physical play, and I think that's the only 'technique' that matters. What makes them so much better than us?
MH: Well... I don't know, honestly.
LO: See? *coffee arrives* Danke, Isabella.
MH: Well... even so, what has it been like?
LO: Well. They've got different ways of playing, certainly. Some of them underestimate us, still. But even so, there's aspects of their play I think we could learn from; nutrition, for example. Keeping energy at a maximum. Some of them are really rigid about that sort of thing, and it does make a difference on the pitch. Most of the lads aren't keen on it, and I can see why, but you get my point.
MH: Mm. Have you been demoralised by some of the heavy losses recently?
LO: It's hard to be demoralised after becoming champions of the Baptism of Fire, but... I'll admit, conceding nine goals in two games and scoring just two ourselves? That was rough. Probably our lowest moment. Kurtis was crushed in particular, though it wasn't really his fault, I don't think. Your Herald treated him rather badly at the time.
MH: Really?
LO: Look, it's hard to play at full morale with the press trashing us all the time, okay? We just feel like our ability is being constantly downplayed, and yet we're under high pressure to miraculously make second at the same time. It's like... it's not working both ways! We've already won the first tournament we've found, but a Cup of Harmony is realistically where we're bound after this, not the World Cup itself.
MH: So you don't think you can overcome the gap to second?
LO: It's... plausible, but not likely. Definitely unlikely.
MH: Alright. Final question; where do you see the national team in ten years?
LO: In the final itself, with any luck. But it's a hard road to success, and we need to make some broad changes within the system itself.
MH: Okay, good talking to you, Lucia.
LO: Right. 'Bye.
The old ways were best!

Original nation behind Nephara. New Sideburn now symbolises an ideal, rather than a nation.

Life About Charles Garcia - Chapter 9 - 8th Grade (1995-1996)
it was Monday, September 2, 1995, when it was Charles Garcia's first day in eighth grade and middle school. He still had Marina Renault. Alexander O'Connor, Mary Albert and Jennifer Lawrence were still his best friends. He was a master computer programmer. His afterschool activity was the Computer Club, which was run by Ms. Renault and him. I was in 12th grade Calculus and 11th grade History and 10th grade Science. My older brother was in the 11th grade. My younger brother John was in the 5th grade. My sister Mary was in 3rd grade. My brother William was in kindergarten. During June 1996, the Computer Club went to a trip to the Vircao Technology Museum. During summer, Charles Garcia and his family went to Beauclaire for a vacation. Elizabethville Junior United was about to win their 107th championship. And so they did.

The Inevitable Syndicate 1–1 German American States
Syndicate: Mitchell 20' / German American States: Unknown 52'
An unfortunate home game tie against the German American States have really turned things sour for the Syndicate, as at the halfway point we've slipped down into 5th. The game started off quite well, with Mitchell putting in an early goal for us in the 20th minute. Things rapidly went downhill, as Pratt took a tumble after a bad tackle from one of the German-American players. This got said player red carded, but Pratt was taken off the pitch for further medical examination. This drained a lot of morale from the team, and in the 52nd minute, one of the opposing players made a fantastic cross that just couldn't be intercepted, and this tied the game up. Outrage was had by fans and players alike, and the Syndicate appeared to go on an all out attack that just wasn't up to scratch in the end. The game finished with a bitter tone, as a tie at this level just isn't good enough. This marks the end of the first half of qualification, and here's hoping we can improve on the flipside.

An Inconceivable Truth
A Story of Syndicatian Climate Change
Chapter x. Split Up and Look For Clues

Dr. Bones was on edge. Ahlefni Police were swarming the city of Khabu, making it difficult to move to anywhere without being stopped. She hadn’t seen Agent 9¾ all day, and also hadn’t heard from Thomas Burke. She wondered what they were up to, as she went back to the hotel room to consolidate her research.

As she entered, she found the Syndicatian Agent in the room, having a shave.

“Where have you been all day? I’ve been worried. We’ve found a bit of a breakthrough - we know where the Meteoricon is! Well, sort of.”

“Fantastic. We’ll get over there tomorrow, then.”

“You’re acting odd, Agent.”

“I’m an agent - I tend to. Anyway, i’m going to bed. If we’re finding this object tomorrow, I want some sleep.”

And so the agent went to bed, rather restlessly as he weighed up what he'd done. Dr. Bones was also restless, but for a completely different reason. She could be close to finding the breakthrough of the century...

The next morning, Andrew popped into the hotel room, along with Jones.

“Right, we’re off to the Diplomatic dinner. Wish us luck!”

“Best of luck. Seriously, you’ll need it. The Ahlenfi Chief of Police was murdered last night.” Agent 9¾ said, toothbrush in hand.

“Seriously?” Jones exclaimed, “That’s terrible! Who would do something like that? Diplomatic relations are strained as it is... Oh my, I’ll have to get on the Datalink to Arnell...”

“Oh dear. Well, I’m sure the Emir will be fine. He’s cool, you know...” Andrew tugged at his collar, and left with Jones following suit, blabbering into his EyeGlass.

“Ruins, then. Shall we?” Bones said, grabbing her hat.

“I guess. Do you know what we’ll find when we’re there?”

“Nope.”

So the Syndicatians set off, two going one way, two going another. The agent and the archaeologist had hired a team of strong Ahlenfi men to do any digging that might be needed at the ruins , and the two diplomats had hired a driver to transport them to Hashbi, the Ahlenfi capital. What would await each team was something that none of them were expecting...

DBK Sports - Football - Slembana 0-2 Eura

Written by Aaron Dartmouth

In our last World Cup 64 qualifying game before the mid-qualifying break, we have lost 2-0 at home to Eura. This is our fourth loss in three games, and our fourth successive game without scoring. Even though Eura are much better than us, the runs that we are on are very worrying. We are currently in an embarrassing 7th position in qualifying Group 10.

We were dominant in the early stages of the match. Val Kylx, our star striker, saw a great shot palmed wide by Euran goalkeeper Daniel Belgrave, in the 4th minute, 4 minutes before Toby Valfox hit the crossbar with a volley. Three minutes later, Jyvx Dagens, our attacking midfielder, saw a fantastic 30-yard free-kick hit the post. We were looking good, and it seemed as if we would be the team to score first.

However, in the 14th minute, Eura took the lead. Their veteran star striker, Lee Sharp, was the player to open the scoring. Sharp received a great through ball from fellow veteran Steve Thompson, sped past our captain, Don Adobe, and rifled a great shot towards goal. The ball zipped past our goalkeeper, Kevin Banks, giving him no chance.

The goal, which was totally against the run of play, sparked Eura into life. Their players rained down shots on Banks' goal almost every minute until the interval. One of Eura's best chances came in the 22nd minute, when striker Sam Needle saw a header headed off the line by Dennis Valfern. Other good Euran chances included a Chad Parsons lob that hit the crossbar, and a drilled shot from Kieran Kane that drifted just wide. However, a 41st-minute header from Harry "Komodo" Young that Belgrave had to palm away excellently reminded Eura that we were still in the game.

We almost started the second half of the game perfectly. Yuppë Tárnix, our left-winger, sped past Euran right-back Nick Feeney, before putting a great cross into the box. Kylx met the ball with an excellent bicycle kick. However, the ball hit the crossbar, before being cleared by veteran defender Julesk Paranaya. However, Kylx was applauded by our fans for his efforts, as it was a great chance.

Tárnix came close with a volley in the 54th minute. Five minutes later, Follin Maxet saw a dink palmed away by Belgrave. We were dominating, and it looked like we would equalise.

However, in the 61st minute, the sucker punch came. Defender Michael Robinson played the ball down to Tom Riley. Riley passed it into Parsons, who jinked past Hank Bowles, before unleashing a rather poor shot. The shot trundled towards goal slowly, and Banks was waiting to save it. However, he missed it, and Kane was there to tap the ball in on the goal line. This goal was Eura's second, and it was a poor goal to give away.

Eura's second goal took the wind out of our sails, as we had hardly any chances after Kane's scrappy goal. Eura, on the other hand, had many good chances, with the best of them coming when Needle hit the crossbar from 3 yards out. When the final whistle was blown, boos rained down on our players, We will need to do better in the second half of qualifying if we want to avoid a repeat of World Cup 63 qualifying.

Endangered Species of Slembana - Part Two - the Jackenzhilov

Introduction
The Jackenzhilov is a cat-like carnivorous animal found only on Jackenzhilov Island, an island located near the Slembanan port of Yavelsk. It is very rare, but its population is happily increasing.

Description
The Jackenzhilov looks somewhat like a cat, as already mentioned. Its teeth are sharp, and it has red fur. It has whiskers on its nose, and long ears. Its ears are as long as those of a hare. Males have spurs on their shoulders. The back of a Jackenzhilov is humped, while its short tail ends with a mushroom-like shape. The Jackenzhilov has three claws on its front paws, and four claws on its back paws. It is digitigrade - which means that it walks on its toes. Adult male Jackenzhilovs measure 1 m (3 ft 3 ins) long, and weigh 25 kg (55 lbs).

Distribution and habitat
The Jackenzhilov is found only on the Slembanan island of Jackenzhilov Island, which is near the Slembanan port of Yavelsk. On the other hand, when it was first discovered in 1798, it was found all over Slembana, with its range even covering parts of South Slembana. The Jackenzhilov's natural habitat is scrubland, desert, savanna, and rainforests. It sometimes ventures into urban areas.

Diet
The Jackenzhilov is exclusively carnivorous. Its main prey items are mice, birds, and fish. However, other small animals - like socks and shrews - may be eaten, while larger mammals - especially sheep - will sometimes fall prey to Jackenzhilovs. Reptiles, like snakes and lizards, are sometimes eaten by Jackenzhilovs, as are eggs and carrion. When none of their usual prey is available, Jackenzhilovs will eat animals like insects, spiders, and earthworms. Observations have been made of Jackenzhilovs breaking into the nests of termites.

Predators
The Jackenzhilov has many predators. These include tigers, bears, Komodo dragons, and crocodiles. Sharks and orcas will sometimes snap up Jackenzhilovs which are searching for fish in the sea. Jackenzhilov cubs are also vulnerable to being eaten by unrelated male Jackenzhilovs.

Conservation
The Jackenzhilov is very rare. Its 2022 population consists of just 543 animals, according to a census. However, its population is increasing. It is currently ranked as "Critically Endangered" by MACW. It will probably soon be upgraded to "Endangered", however. It is found only in Jackenzhilov Island, but a small number of animals will be reintroduced to mainland Slembana in 2025. These Jackenzhilovs will be the first on mainland Slembana since 1999.

"Hello and welcome to Sheh Hatsagah Tardah, the biggest show on Friday night TV! Coming to you from Tel-Maksiouta, which was oddly described by one Kishraeli poet as 'Our national flower is the concrete cloverleaf', well I don't know about you, but Tel-Maksiouta isn't that full of concrete is it?"

Woooo!!

"I'm Levy Tsahar and on this show, we're going to be talking to a number of people. Let's cut to the green room to see just who we have on the show tonight!"

Cut to the Green Room

"We have... Mariah Dementevova! Hello Mariah!"

"Hello Levy!"

"How are you doing Mariah?"

"I'm doing great Levy! I can't wait to come on the show tonight!"

"And what have you been up to recently Mariah?"

"Well, I've recorded Kishrael's official World Cup qualifying song, and I've done a bunch of other things as well, like designing clothes, travelling, everything!"

"Excellent! And you'll be performing your song for us on the show tonight! Excellent stuff Mariah, speak to you later. Now, we also have Libi Ateach! Wow, this is certainly a musical evening isn't it!"

"Haha, yes it is! Hello!"

"Hi Libi, so, what's been happening for you?"

"Well, I've just been in the studio recording, and I have a big announcement to make, which I'll be doing on your show!"

"Libi, you tease us too much. See you later."

"Well, did you know it is Vitamin C Day today!"

After a bit of a comedic interlude, you know the one...

"Okay then, Mariah! Come on out!"

Mariah comes out...

"Hi Levy! Mwah, mwah!"

"Mariah Dementevova everybody!"

Wooo!!

"Ahaha, thank you!"

"So Mariah, let's get started. You were chosen to do the official World Cup song for Kishrael's qualifying stages, and they didn't sign you up to do a finals one for obvious reasons, as we can see."

Hahaha!!

Group 2 Table appears on screen.

"So, why did you sign up for this in the first place, surely you don't want to taint yourself with a lost cause?"

"Haha, well, I didn't think it would be a lost cause! Last time, Kishrael got a decent amount of points I believe, but this time, it's just not worked out for them, ah well..."

"Yeas, so why do you think this is?"

"It's got to be the corruption of the Wightling referees! We've lost to so many weak teams! I'm calling anti-Semitism!"

Hahaha!! OOC: A Kishraeli joke is that anything against Kishraeli is anti-Semitic

"But anyway, you've recorded a track for the team to spur them on, correct?"

"Well, I don't think it spurs them on per se, more, shames them, into performing better. They must know that nobody is happy with them."

"Yes, quite. In fact, you really capture the feeling of the nation, 'Have you heard that Kishrael is winning? No, me neither'"

Hahaha!!

"Yep! That's my song!"

"Okay, well it's that time, let's hear it!"

"Okay Levi!"

Mariah goes to the stage at the side of the interviewing area.

"Singing בנה לימוד כוה בי צייון - Banah Limod kuh bi Tsiyon, it's Mariah Dementevova!"

מריה דמנטבובה - בנה לימוד כוה בי צייון
Mariah Dementevova – Please Learn How to Score
To the tune of... Aygün Kazımova - Qol

Looking down at the main camera, she begins her song after a long musical interlude that sees trained dancers doing trivial things such as keep-ups and other assortments of ball skills.

Look, look, look is he scoring a goal?
Probably not because we are Kishrael
Go, go, go, go and get us the lead
No, no, no you have lost us the lead
Come on Kishrael score, score, score
You know what to do, attack more, more
Can you feel the vibe from the Banana Nest?
Oh please El make Kishrael the best!

You know what to do when you hear of the game
Run and hide to avoid the shame

Taking her microphone off of its stand, she begins to dance with her backing dancers, who to, are doing a somewhat pitiful dace that sees them sway side to side, maybe drop low for a few seconds, the usual rubbish.

Oooooh!
בנה לימוד כוה בי צייון - Banah limod kuh bi tsiyon (Please learn how to score)
?שויל אתה עאשם שה קיסרל נוצחים - Shoyel atah easham sheh Kisral notschim? (Have you heard that Kishrael is winning?)

לוא, אותי גם לוא - Lo, oti gam lo (No, me neither)

The crowd seemed to be loving it, and so Mariah smiled a little, it was difficult due to the amount of botox and plastic surgery she'd had, but she did it, that is how dedicated she was.

Football!
Football!

Have you ever wondered what’d be like to win?
We’d have to sell our souls and that is a sin
So all we can do for now is sing
Come on, come on Kishrael hurry up and win!
Come on Kishrael score, score, score
You know what to do, attack more, more
Can you feel the vibe from the Banana Nest?
Oh please El make Kishrael the best!

You know what to do when you hear of the game
Run and hide to avoid the shame

She and her other backing dancers began to jig in a sort of strange, Irish fashion, whipping themselves everywhere, while maintaining a river dance-ish style of leg movement. Mariah knew that she was getting too old for this crap, but she smiled through it anyway.

Thank goodness that's over... Mariah was probably going to have to retire soon if she was this crap at moving. She didn't even know how old she was, the disparity between the perkiness of her face and the ability of her body to move was confusing at best.

"Mariah Dementevova everybody! Come sit back down! I guess you're not trying to ingratiate yourself with the footballers then!"

"Of course not Levy! They need a kick up the backside, not a pat on the back!"

"Well, it is certainly a bold move to make, the KFA will be furious!"

"Haha, they wanted me to make it, so I did! But if I weren't to make a joke about it, what could I do, they're not playing well enough to be praised? Always give yourself credit for having more than personality is what I say. Have an opinion and express it."

"Excellent! Now, you've also had a hand in writing children's books haven't you?"

"Ah yes! My 'Pooh' series! Yes, my newest one, 'Cooking with Pooh-'"

Hahaha!!

"Yes, I didn't really think the name through very well. Well, it's about the character Pooh, cooking! And it has some fun recipes for the children to try at home!"

"But this isn't the first time you've had influence in children's development. You worked on the Kishraeli version of Banana's in Pyjamas didn't you?"

"Yes I did! Goodness, I do regret that...what a diabolical show!"

"Haha! We'll have to leave it there Mariah. Join us after the break when we talk to Libi Ateach, don't miss it."

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

6/12

First Name: Kane
Surname: Harrison
Squad Number: 11
Position: Forward
Club: Kings Park
Town of Birth: Dordon
Nation: North Braxon
International Appearances: 9
International Goals: 5

Bio:Kane Harrison is the youngest player on the squad and despite being only 18 he has already made a mark cementing his place in the starting 11 and disproving his critics. Kane was born in a small town on the North Braxon north coast called Dordon with a population of only 300 it was expected that he would continue in his families footsteps as a fisherman, however, the fates had lined something else up for him. While playing for a rep team he was spotted but Kings Park scouts at the age of 12 and was signed up to Kings Park academy. Despite feeling homesick and difficulty in adjusting to living away from home he was able to impress his coaches who were quick to further develop his work. He won the U15 league and then again in the U17 league, he was also selected for the North Braxon U17 and U18 sides where he put in an impressive performance that had other clubs sitting up and taking notes. Kings Park signed him to their senior team at the age of 17 but took him 12 games until he was finally selected to play, where he scored a goal and helped set up another making him a fan favourite.

Kane was part of U21 squad that won the 26th Di Bradini Cup where he was awarded his MBE. During the tournament he scored an impressive 9 goals from 7 games that further cemented his reputation as a strong goal scorer. It was this performance that allowed him to be selected as a started for the Blouam Empire in the 64th World Cup qualifiers manager Sir Nathan Kolson spoke highly of Kane when giving his reasons "Despite his young age he has the skill to be able to score, I don't care about his apparent lack of experience the boy knows how to put the ball in the net and as a striker that's what counts". Despite the confidence of his manager and team Kane has had to deal with many commentators criticising Sir Nathan's decision on putting on a 18 year old and his lack of goals in the first 5 games of the tournament he has struck back by scoring 4 in the past 4 games and mentioned to a waiting media pack that more were on their way.

Kane hasn't been without controversy, at the age of 16 he was involved in the Kings Park incident which saw a number of young players dismissed from the club for vandalism and sexual assault. While Kane was suspended during the investigation he was readmitted after investigators cleared him of wrong doing. Kane further found himself in trouble a year later when he was accused of impregnating a 16 year old girl, tests done once the child was born showed him not to be the father. Kane currently lives with his teammate and close friend Michael Kabalt whom he grew up with while at the youth academy.
You know you've made it on NSG when you have a whole thread created around what you said.

Saintland collapses in 2nd half, loses to Audioslavia 4-2

(SP) An overconfident Audioslavian side arrived at Royal Stadium in St. Petrus to face the National Soccer Team for the Kingdom of Saintland. Prince Andreas and his teammates would put a scare into the defending World Cup champions, but in the end Audioslavia came from behind and escaped Saintland with a victory by the score of 4 goals to 2. "When this match started, they didn't respect us. They weren't taking the match seriously, so we took an early lead. Then, we stunned them with a second goal. I thought we were going to win, but they are the defending champions. They refocused in the 2nd half and we knew our lead wasn't going to hold up. Still, I'm optimistic halfway through this tournament. I know we are better than 5 of the other nations in our group and I think we can still upset 2 or 3 of the other 4 in the second half, if God is with us. I told my team after today's match that we can still qualify for this World Cup. We just need to focus single-mindedly on qualifying and put our trust in God. The Will of God will be done in this qualification tournament. We just don't know if God wants us to qualify this time or if he wants to keep us out so we will have more perspective when we do qualify for a World Cup." - Prince Andreas

Even if nobody outside of our Kingdom believes that the Sanctii are going to qualify and even if few within the Kingdom still believe that, we can rest assured that the National Team believes they still have a chance. We can rest assured that they are determined and will not be an easy victory for anybody. Any team foolish enough to take the Sanctii lightly can expect to lose.

On this day, things started out just like everybody in our Kingdom dreamed. In the 6th minute, Prince Andreas was able to sneak a pass into Stephanus Vagionius inside the box. Vagionius took a shot at the goal and Kajaxo Imslavvi was unable to get to it. The Kingdom of Saintland had taken an early lead. Audioslavia was stunned.

Down 1-0, the champions began to attack. In the 11th minute, Karsten Eiger's shot hit the post. It bounced to Lucas Aufidius. Aufidius booted it long for Prince Andreas and the Sanctii went into counter-attacking mode. Prince Andreas skillfully found his way through the Audioslavian defense and was through on goal. He took the hardest shot he could and sent it straight at the top left corner of the goal. Imslavvi got to it and knocked it out for a corner. The Prince of Saintland went to take the corner. His corner was a perfect one that landed right at the feet of Stephanus Vagionius. The Sanctii striker somehow had a clear look at the net. He took a shot, but Imslavvi somehow saved it to keep his team's deficit at 1 goal.

After the Vagionius shot was saved, the Sanctii decided to get physical with the smaller Audioslavian side. Georgius Catiotus executed a vicious, but perfectly legal slide tackle in the 17th minute to get the ball away from Zonnestraal Jansen. The speedy Audioslavian midfielder was just no match for the large Sanctii centerback. While still on the ground, Catiotus skillfully used his feet to send the ball in the direction of Lucas Aufidius. Aufidius passed forward to Petrus Mamilius. Mamilius saw that Prince Andreas was being double-teamed, so he sent the pass to Silvester Flaccus instead. Flaccus was about to try a cross, but Velasquez fouled him for a free kick and a capacity crowd of 62,383 were screaming for a yellow card. However, the ref decided against carding the Audioslavian midfielder.

Prince Andreas came up to take a free kick just outside of the box. The Prince booted it over the wall and toward the net. Imslavvi fell down and could not get to the ball. However, the free kick went slightly to the left of the goal. A relieved Imslavvi booted away a goal kick. Audioslavia was still down just 1 goal.

The Sanctii would blow a few more scoring opportunities while Audioslavia would struggle to move the ball into the box. The crowd at Royal Stadium felt confident about their chances, even as the home team led by just 1 goal. In the 39th minute, that all changed. Audioslavia had just gotten a corner kick in the 38th minute when Aufidius over-pursued Eiger and left him alone against the keeper. It had been miraculous that Alessandro Seius had been in the right place to deflect an excellent shot out for a corner. After the corner went right to Matthaeus Belaeus, Belaeus passed it to Catiotus. Vagionius was just behind the last Audioslavian defender. Catiotus hit it long and to a spot where only Vagionius or Imslavvi could find it. Imslavvi went after the ball, but Vagionius got there first. No offside signal was forthcoming from the referee as Vagionius booted it past a charging Imslavvi and into the net. Vagionius had scored for the 2nd time and the Sanctii led 2 goals to nil. That would be the score at halftime.

During the halftime interval, Prince Andreas made a fateful mistake. He chose to continue to play for more goals instead of going defensive and trying to preserve the lead. Alessandro Seius had closely studied past Audioslavian matches, going back to their victory at the 46th Baptism of Fire. The SP can confirm that Seius advised Prince Andreas to play defensive because Audioslavia always seems to score their goals in the second half. The Prince decided that 2 goals were not enough, so he did not make any substitutions at halftime.

Initially, it looked like Prince Andreas had made the right decision. For the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Sanctii controlled the match much like they did in the first half. Then, the defenders for the home team began to get slightly tired. Audioslavia intercepted a pass from Petrus Mamilius intended for Prince Andreas and slowly used short passes to get down the field. As the clock entered the 57th minute, Karsten Eiger had the ball. Lucas Aufidius went to knock it away, but Aufidius just missed Eiger. The Audioslavian striker put it in the back of the net. Audioslavia was now down just 1 goal.

Prince Andreas decided that it was time to bring in his extra strikers. Both Paulus Gabinius and Ioannes Gratus came on and the Poenius brothers left. That mistake set up what was to come. In the 63rd minute, it looked like the decision would pay off. Prince Andreas passed to Gratus inside the box. Gratus faked a shot and passed to Gabinius. Gabinius thought that Imslavvi had fallen for the fake, but he hadn't. Imslavvi saved the shot and Saintland's lead was still just a 2 to 1 lead.

That would not last. Audioslavia brought on Weverton Spradic for Txordin Velasquez in the 68th minute. Spradic would receive a cross from Matías Garrastazu in the 73rd minute. Weverton Spradic took a shot and Alessandro Seius just missed it as it sailed into the back of the net. Audioslavia had just tied the match. This only made Prince Andreas go even more aggressive. He took Lucas Aufidius out of the match and replaced him with Josephus Flaccus. Suddenly, the Sanctii were playing a 2-4-1-3 formation and they were attempting to play extremely aggressively.

This aggressiveness came back to haunt them. A bad pass by Paulus Flaccus gave the ball back to Audioslavia in the 81st minute. Some skillful Audioslavian passing set up Zonnestraal Jansen for a scoring opportunity. Jansen easily got by the 2 Sanctii defenders and Seius did not have a chance of stopping it as it sailed into the back of the net. Audioslavia led 3 to 2. In the 85th minute, the Sanctii went forward, trying desperately to get that equalizer and salvage at least 1 point from this match. However, Prince Andreas would take a shot and he would hit the bar. As it bounced back to an Audioslavian defender, the entire stadium knew that this match had gotten away from them. Eiger added an insurance goal for Audioslavia in the 88th minute, but it was already over before that goal. Audioslavia won by a score of 4 goals to 2. "I told [Prince] Andreas that he was making a very serious mistake, but he didn't listen to me. I looked into his eyes and I knew he was set in his decision. Then, everything that I had feared would happen did happen in the 2nd half. We could have won this match, but our captain made some bad tactical decisions. Tomorrow is a day off and then we will host Spagbogia on the following day. We need to put this loss behind us and play our best against Spagbogia. They may not be all that good a team, but if we dwell on this defeat, they will leave our Kingdom with points." - Alessandro Seius

Indeed, the Sanctii have a day off after 9 grueling World Cup qualifiers. At the midway point, the Kingdom of Saintland is in 4th place in Group 2 with 15 points. They have won 5 and lost 4, while scoring and allowing 16 goals. Currently, the qualifying race in Group 2 appears to be a 3 team race. Krytenia leads the group with 24 points, having won 8 out of 9. Kinitaria remains undefeated, but 3 draws leave them with just 21 points. Audioslavia has won 6, drawn 2 and lost 1, leaving them at 20 points. Soviet Canuckistan and Zwangzug both have 14 points, while the remainder of the group is still in single digits. If we take the reasonable assumption that the Sanctii are the 4th best team in the group and should beat the 6 teams beneath them in the table, that would put them at 33 points. To have any hope of qualification, they likely need to defeat those 6 teams and win 2 out of 3 against the big 3. Although few believe they can pull this off, a few Sanctii players have told the SP off the record that they don't think they were over-matched against any of their 9 opponents and they believe they can beat anybody on any given day if things go right. They are taking this tournament match-by-match and are not looking past any of their opposition. History would indicate that National Teams from the Kingdom of Saintland are most dangerous in the second half of round-robin tournaments, so don't count them out just yet. Be sure to watch their matches on Royal One and be sure to attend their home matches at Royal Stadium. Only God knows what the future holds for this team, but there is still reason for hope. Will the Sanctii fail to qualify or will they pull off a memorable comeback like the ice hockey team did at the Winter Olympics and like this very team did in the Baptism of Fire? Time will tell.

Following the loss to Audioslavia, Prince Andreas spoke to his team in the locker room.

Prince Andreas - First off, I want to apologize for my tactical mistakes out there. You were right, Alessandro. We should have played defensively. As you all know, I was not focused earlier on in the tournament and I didn't pay as much attention as I should have when I was watching Audioslavia's past matches on Sanctustube. That is why I made those very serious mistakes. I did not realize that they were known for their stamina nor did I realize that they have a habit of pulling off 2nd half comebacks. But, what's done is done. We must not dwell on this loss. Audioslavia came into this match overconfident. They took us lightly, thinking we were an easy win. We came out playing at our best and Stephanus scored 2 goals in the first half. We were able to hang with Audioslavia. We took it to the defending World Cup champions for 55 minutes. We outplayed the supposed best team in the world for much of that match and probably should have won. Although this loss complicates things, it is not the end of the road for us. We can still qualify for the World Cup. We should stay focused because each and every one of us knows that we can beat any team in the world on any given night. We have proven today that we can hang with the elite. Let's put our trust in our Creator. He has a Divine Plan for us. We will play the same 9 teams again. Let's show all those doubters around the world that we are for real and let's give everything we have. Then, we may be able to go on a winning streak and we may be able to qualify for the World Cup. At the very least, we'll put a scare into the Big 3 and we'll establish to the rest of the world that the Kingdom of Saintland should not be taken lightly. Let's refocus over our day off because we will be playing Spagbogia in our next match, right here at Royal Stadium. That is a team that we have already defeated and that is a team that we can defeat again. If we stay focused and avoid being upset, we will be in position to make a run. If we are in position for a run, we will still have something to play for. We will still have the hope that we can qualify. We will still have the hope that we can prove that we should have won the Baptism of Fire. We will still have the hope that we can prove that we are one of the best in the world and that is what we want to be.

The players had much to think about as they went home to relax. They were going to spend their day off with their families to refocus before the second half of the tournament...

Hello!

I am naming Vlad, and I am being krkln bells for Sbrskj Krk Trkrj (or, as you are saying in your language, "Let Us All Rejoice in Harmonious Melodies of Glorious Motherland").

Some are asking me 'Vlad, now you are reaching halfway point in qualification in first place in your grouping following excellent 4-2 win over Lisander, are you becoming of confidence that qualification you will be getting?' This question is disappointing me as it has nothing doing with krkln bells. My auntie Josefa and cousin Zizi are spending many of hours in making of traditional krkln bells, using traditional method of daily shaving of beet steel from bridges that is then being melted down and reforged into magnificent full set of 525 bells. It is pity that no one outside of Slobbodovania is hearing of bells due to constant collapsing of bridge, but this is being - how do you say - small price to be paying for full set symbolising traditional Slobbodovanian folk tale of number of tears man is crying when he discover he not allowed to marry beloved sister.

But digressing I am doing. Yes, we are thinking that we can be doing the qualification, but United Gordonopia is tricksy team that underestimating we are not doing.

Doing the speaking of United Gordonopia, man from Gordonopian Games come to Sbrskj Krk Trkrj and is saying to team "will you produce song to promote video game". We are not being sure what this "video game" is being, but he is telling us it is way that chirpy cheeky children can be doing the playing of World Cup and Baptism of Fire in comforting of own home. This is sounding exciting, so we agree to be writing song for him!

Swinging in the beetyard
Pull up in my fast cart
Whistling your name
Open up beet juice
And I say, get over here
And be playing a video game

You're in my favourite sack dress
Watching you get undressed
Then I take the donkey downtown
I say you the bestest
Lean in for a big kiss
Put on your best turnip perfume
Go play a video game

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell you all the things I want to do
I know I like the bearded girls
Honey, this is being true.
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if your cousin is loving you
Baby, now you do

Singing in the old bars
With workers and peasants who play hard
Every day the same
Kissing in the blue dark
Playing shkrlj and wild darts
And Video games

I am holding you in big arms
Drunk and you are seeing stars
Watching all our friends smashed
Due to poor quality of fermented beet mash
Look here at barrel of gun
This is how you are being ordered to have fun
Playing video games

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell you all the things I want to do
I know I like the bearded girls
Honey, this is being true.
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if your cousin is loving you
Baby, now you do

Now you do, now you do, now you do
Now you do, now you do, now you do

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell you all the things I want to do
I know I like the bearded girls
Honey, this is being true.
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if your cousin is loving you
Baby, now you do

Now you do, now you do, now you do
Now you do
Now you do, now you do, now you do

An Adventure In Old Guard - Part Nine

David pushed open a side door into the expansive warehouse to reveal a brightly lit, empty corridor. He motioned to Clement, who was nervously watching to follow him inside. Clement scuttled over and shut the door quietly. It was eerily quiet in the warehouse, with no-one at all around. They checked in several rooms, but only saw what appeared to be living quarters or changing rooms. A couple of offices as well. It really just looked completely normal, apart from the living quarters, but nothing sinister certainly.

Clement was worried, mainly for his life, but also about what this meant for the mission, what if those thugs were assembled elsewhere? After stumbling around a few more corridors and generally feeling quite lost, they came to a door, with a large window in it. Through the crowd they could see a large audience assembled in a giant room, with a man currently on a podium. David and Clement snuck in the back, luckily the crowd was facing the opposite way and listened to the speaker.

"... to fight the glorious fight, to overcome the oppressors and re-install the old regime! It is part of our responsibilities as Old Guardian's to see this change, to fight for what our people want! This is or chance to succeed. I now call to the stage, the head of our regime, Lord Askain the Wise!" There was rapturous applause around the room. David and Clement looked at each other, worried. They both knew, that what the speaker had just said was rubbish, Askain was a negligent, useless idiot.

"We should probably..." started Clement, before he was interrupted by the elderly Askain,

"Thank you, Richard," he started, smiling at the speaker, "Welcome, children of Old Guard! Thank you for agreeing to take part in the revolution against the crook Iskander the Third and his reforms and 'country aid'. Nonsense! If people are struggling, it's their own fault! That was the course given to them by God...." Clement had heard enough, and was walking towards the door. He knew what was going on in here, he couldn't listen to this propaganda anymore. David was quick to follow, mainly because they should stick together. They began walking down the corridor, trying to work out the way to the exit, when they were halted by a shout.

"Hey! Get back in the assembly hall!" They turned around to see two large guards standing outside the doors to the hall, angrily staring. David turned slightly to Clement and whispered;

"What now?" Clement didn't dignify that with an answer, as he was already running, closely followed by the more athletic David and closely followed by the two security guards. After a couple more corridors and short escapes, Clement saw the door, being overtaken just before the door, and being forced to slow down a little in the bottleneck to get through. David was outside and already running towards the door. Clement, was just reaching the door when he felt a hand grab the back of his shirt and haul him back inside, while the other guard slammed the door shut. He was trapped.

"Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. This is Logan Dale with the Fenris Sports Corner. Let's jump right in with the World Cup. Sad tidings have been brought. Jedi8246 flew into Ko-oren feeling joyous. When they left it was anything but joyous. Ko-oren defeated the Wyverns in a 2-0 shutout.

The Wyverns did not expect the level of preparation that the Ko-oren team had done. Though the team played their hearts out, the Ko-oren team expected every move the Wyverns made. Jedi8246's game plan had been countered perfectly by their foes. It was only the skill of the Wyverns that they were able to hold out the Ko-oren team from scoring more.

The loss dropped the Wyverns back to third place in the group. Michael VII's victory gives them a one point advantage over the Wyverns. With the season half over, the Wyverns are definitely at the top of the group and can easily qualify if they play well enough. The key is to get wins over these lesser teams and not allow ties. After the one week hiatus, Jedi8246 is heading into Fenbar for a rematch. Coach Hemlock is developing a game plan to take down the Fenbar defense. Best of luck to the Wyverns moving forward. We'll bring you more after the break."

The Emparán Strikes Back

Gonzalo Pereira reports from Soluca;

It had been scheduled as a quarterly budget announcement but instead of Finance Minister Juan Pablo Dorado or one of his underlings the waiting press corps were informed that none other than state president Gregorio Emparán himself would be addressing them. Surprise became incredulity when the group of suited non-entities they'd initially been expecting were replaced by some of the single most important people in the entire Greater Republic. Joining El Presidenté were Vice President Trucco and the ministers of Defence, Foreign Affairs and the Interior. Delays ensued as word spread and journalists who had originally cried off the engagement suddenly descended on the press conference. Where the auditorium had been half full, now it was standing room only as President Emparán addressed the media.

‘As I’m sure you’re all aware relations between the Greater Republic and the Federation of Polar Islandstates has not always been as cordial as we may have liked. For years we have risen above the provocative and openly aggressive policies of the Iversen-Eklund regime and those of her predecessors. We have turned the other cheek. We have taken the moral high ground at every turn. This was meant to offer encouragement to our northern neighbours, it was meant to demonstrate to them that there is a better way. Unfortunately it would seem that our benevolent attitude has been construed as weakness.

‘What other reason could there be for the overt escalation of aggression enacted by the current Polarian government? Take their Polkhan Project. A so-called civilian transportation and logistical superhub incorporating land, air and sea elements. We are not fooled. I have seen intelligence dossiers revealing the true intent behind Polkhan. That of a massive military staging area. A forward supply depot of immense proportions. A listening post targeting the entire Sargossan mainland. But perhaps even this could have been overlooked were it not for the recent vicious and unprovoked attack on an innocent and unprotected fishing fleet in the southern Sargossan Sea. That atrocity, coupled with the damning fact that the authorities in Franz Josef City withdraw their ambassador mere days before, is proof positive that we are witnessing the start of a premeditated campaign of intimidation and outright violence.

‘That is something that cannot, that will not be allowed to continue. The increasing hostility of the Polarian regime and the proximity of their military assets to the mainland now represents a clear and present threat to Sargossan national security and sovereignty. And this government’s number one priority is to protect its people. Which is why, effective immediately, I have ordered the establishment of a sea and air blockade around the island of Kűlmsaar. Already our naval forces are establishing a perimeter around the island. Any shipping attempting to leave will be subject to boarding actions and will be escorted to Sargossan port. All shipping approaching the perimeter will be turned back. A no-fly zone over the island is also in effect. And all restrictions will remain in place until such a time when President Iversen-Eklund abandons her Polkhan Project and orders her military forces to evacuate the island.

‘It’s important to make the distinction that this is not an act of war. A large number of our brethren reside on Kűlmsaar and we would never take any action that would put them in harms way. But rather this is an opportunity for the Polarians to finally locate their moral compass. To abandon their antagonistic ways and embrace a peaceful coexistence. And learn that if they continue to push us we will push back.’

Corrupt Dictatorship

Postby Ko-oren » Fri Apr 05, 2013 2:46 pm

"Great job, everyone! Thank you so much for your hard work. We analysed everything we could, we paid attention to every possible detail. We had to seize the opportunity to have a chance at qualifying. But remember that this World Cup, we just want to make sure the new team members fit in, and we want to reach the second round of the Cup of Harmony, should we make it there. We want to have a good game, not per se a passing game, but a game of patience, concentration, diligence and team work. We want a solid defense as a perfect base to build the rest of the team on. After this first half of the qualifying cycle, I just want to say... Thank you very much. To all of you here, our captains and the coaches."

"Good, coach! It's a pleasure working with you. It might not always look like we had a plan in the previous cups, but now we surely do!"

"Thank, Sobek. It's great working with you as a captain. And as a defender. How do you think it's going?"

"Fantastic. We never had a cycle like this, I think. The results in the group are not optimal, but overall, I'm happy. We have always had games where we just seemed to give up and give the qualification away against the smaller teams. We've had some weird draws, but we won all the important games. If we keep this up, I'd like to see what can happen."

"the ties against Kericia and Silver Beach, you mean? Obviously, we'd expect nothing other than a win there. But instead of losing these crazy matches, we now draw them. Which is a full point better than usual. And I think the group helps us. We've never been in a group with one clear winner and one or two teams behind that. For some weird reason, we always end up in the one group with four-five teams that all seem to have an equal chance at qualifying just one match before the end. It's a long run, and here is where these four key words come in. Not just during matches we need to stay concentrated, when a late conceded goal will cost us at least a point, but during the qualification as well. We need to believe in our chances, because we can be sure we've got the Archregimancy, Michael VII and Jedi all profiting from each others mistakes. Patience: we know we haven't lost yet. And we can keep this up. Just two tough away matches left: the Archregimancy and Jedi. And until that time, we'll know all four of us will make mistakes. Diligence: work hard, defend every square inch, don't give any team the benefit of the doubt. Team work: we need these goals even if we can't score too many of them. We've had four victories, all but one were by one goal difference."

"So what will we do in the coming nine games?"

"Bearded Moose, Kericia, Silver Beach are the next three opponents. We had five points against them where we maybe expected nine. We can't allow to miss this opportunity again. Don't concede a goal. Just don't concede a goal. And we will score. Just go for the 1-0 victory. That's all. Score more if you can. But one goal is enough. Especially with a defense like ours."

"And then... The Archregimancy."

"Yes, that game will prove to be crucial. They are the clear favorites, whenever and wherever, but we can keep them to a draw, I'm sure. Then it's Secundus Kasius... at our home. That country is not very far away, so I don't think we have a decisive home advantage. This was another draw earlier. Like Bearded Moose, Kericia and Silver Beach, we need to get at least a point. Or three. But we're onto something special here. I've got a very... unbeatable feeling now."

"Then Timfen and Michael VII. Probably the toughest consecutive games we'll play. Let me guess, don't concede a goal and believe in ourselves?"

"Absolutely. We had four points in these two matches earlier. We can do that again, and I'm sure it will be enough. The against Fenbar, we just need to not be stupid then and concentrate on the task at hand, not on Jedi who we'll face even later. Just focus on Fenbar by that time. But that is a long way from now... So don't forget to concentrate. Concentrate! Concentrate on the task at hand. Bearded Moose. Fenbar will wait until after Michael VII. Maybe we'll lose the next seven games, and the entire match against Fenbar won't even matter. And then there's Jedi. Maybe that will be the tiebreaker for the playoff spot, maybe it's the tiebreaker for first place, maybe it's the tiebreaker for third place. In which case, actually, in any case, we've got to be positive and maybe that will give us a Cup of Harmony spot if we're lucky. It would be a feat, qualifying for the Cup of Harmony consecutively, or even reaching the second round of that tournament consecutively. But that is not for now. Bearded Moose. Bearded Moose is what we need to imagine right now. But don't forget what we've just done. We've beaten Jedi! As I said, thank you for your hard work before this game. We couldn't lose this, and we didn't."

THE MONASTIC TIMES

FR SILOUAN THE STRICT DECRIES LENTEN COOKBOOK
Archregimancy Team's Foray into Secular Publication Denounced as "Breach of Agreement"

By Fr. Nicholas the Scribe

Anti-ecumenical crusader Fr. Silouan the Strict raised a new controversy in the wake of the Archregimancy's 2-0 victory over Democratic States of Fenbar by denouncing the national football team's recent Lenten Cookbook, published by The Archregimancy Press.

"The publication of this work is a breach of the spirit of my agreement with the Monastic Football Association" said Fr. Silouan, referring to his recent joint statement with the MFA where both parties agreed to 'find a middle way of recognising the team's recent success in all due humility'.

"Is this 'cookbook' part of the Book of Life?" asked an enraged Fr. Silouan, before noting "Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire!" and throwing a large pile of copies of the Lenten Cookbook into a bonfire.

The Monastic Football Association later released a statement stating that it 'regretted any misunderstanding', and that it would seek further talks with Fr. Silouan since - as written in Colossians - 'the peace of Christ should rule in our hearts, since as members of one body we were called to peace'.

Despite the ongoing controversy over the MFA's decision to promote the national team's footballing success, the Archregimancy currently sit top of Group 19 at the halfway stage of qualification, a full 4 points ahead of second-placed team Michael VII.

Good evening, and welcome to Cameranian Public News. Last night, our Fightin' Commies suffered another loss, but this time at the hands of Saugeais, who is first in our group. All things considered, a 0-1 loss is respectable at our current skilll level; being able to prevent more goals is key in climbing the ranks. Be sure to saty tuned for more reports, and election updates.

As the Sunrisian team played against the team of Basque Socialist States, two individuals from Euskaldunek watched the match inside the stadium, silent. A goal from the home team went, they were still silent. A goal from NSI would come later, in the second half, thanks to Nagatomo, but they would remain silent.

After the match, a Sunrisian that was close to them in the stadium decided to ask what they were doing in the stadium, as they were so silent, it didn't seem they were watching the match properly. In a bored monotone, one of them answered swiftly.
- I don't know about you, but for some reason, maybe it's how they look, but I'm pretty sure that one of the guys playing there is my cousin.

The sunrisian didn't understand why that could be a reason, until the other Euskal answered.
- It's that his family sucks at soccer, dunno how your team tied to them.

The Keeper

That's him sat down, not like the other clowns,
performing acrobatics on the bar, or press-ups
in the box, or running on the spot,
togged out in turtleneck pajama-suits
with hands as stunted as a bunch of thumbs,
hands that are bandaged or swaddled with gloves,
laughable, frying-pan, sausage-man gloves.
Not my man, though, that's not what my man does;
a man who stubs his reefers on the post
and kicks his heels in the stud-marks and butts,
lighting the next from the last, in one breath
making the save of the year with his legs,
taking back a deep drag on the goal-line
in the next; on the one hand throwing out
or snaffling the ball from a high corner,
flicking off loose ash with the other.

NAMIBE CHRONICLE

WORLD CUP 64: MID-QUALIFYING REVIEW

West Angola 2–0 Kartvelistan
West Angola got its qualifying campaign off to a strong start with a 2-0 win in front of an excited crowd in Namibe. The match began with some confusion, as technical issues resulted in conflicting fixture orders being sent to participants, and Namibe briefly played host to three teams. West Angola played its first match since World Cup 62 without star forward Luke Parrish, who was scratched the week before for “personal reasons.” The match was a good showing for West Angola, but some analysts expressed concerns about Peter Wilson’s play with a new face at forward, which they believed could cause problems.
Record: 1-0-0
Goals For/Against: 2-0

Ossidiacqua 2–0 West Angola
Luke Parrish started this match, although he was benched after seven minutes. Despite appearing none the worse for wear physically, Parrish looked unsure of himself on the pitch, firing two inaccurate shots that came nowhere close to the goal, and failing to make even basic passes. Unfortunately, West Angola’s attack was never truly able to get going during this match, and despite the best efforts of Blake Green and the defense, West Angola allowed two goals to the group’s third seed and suffered its first loss of qualifying.
Record: 1-0-1
Goals For/Against: 2-2

West Angola 3–0 Romantique Belle Vie
West Angola recovered from the defeat to Ossidiacqua, and Luke Parrish managed to find his attacking senses again, scoring two of West Angola’s three goals. There was little of note about this match besides Parrish scoring his first goals of Qualifying, as it was viewed both before and after as little more than a tune-up for West Angola’s match against Liventia.
Record: 2-0-1
Goals For/Against: 5-2

Liventia 0–1 West Angola
West Angola pulled off a nail-biter against Liventia that looked until the 78th minute as though it might end in a draw. Only a late goal by Peter Wilson, twisting past the grasping hands of Ross Ramsden, managed to give West Angola the lead that proved decisive. Following the match, Phillip Garren was asked about Parrish’s erratic play: “Luke is doing his best, he’s working through some personal issues right now and is working as hard as he can for this team. Don’t worry about him, he’ll be back.”
Record: 3-0-1
Goals For/Against: 6-2

West Angola 4–2 Ancharmunn
Nicknamed, “The Match from Hell,” West Angola managed a 4-2 win in a match which was called before time due to the unexpected invasion of the stadium by a horde of zombies. The pitch and stands were quickly abandoned in the melee, although Jan Pawel and Blake Green were both taken by the swarm in the mad rush. Additionally, Isaac Warren, Peter Wilson, and John Blevit were separated from the rest of the team while the team was being evacuated and had to embark on a harrowing journey through Namibe to rejoin the survivors three days later. After a lengthy post-incident discussion, it was concluded that the match should be scored as is, since many members of Ancharmunn’s team had been killed, and they had benefitted with at least one goal after the zombie assault.
Record: 4-0-1
Goals For/Against: 10-4

West Angola 3–0 West Zirconia
West Angola managed to survive the absence of two of its starting players, one of which was the keeper, and defeat West Zirconia 3-0 on the road. This match was largely routine save for the excellent performance by backup keeper Donald Westing, who saw his first action in international play, and recalled memories of the U-21 Championship of four years previous, when Westing managed no fewer than seventeen saves against Peter Wilson. Despite this performance, Garren announced that Blake Green would return to his starting role following his recovery.
Record: 5-0-1
Goals For/Against: 13-4

Bears Armed 4–0 West Angola
In an extremely disappointing result, West Angola utterly collapsed against Bears Armed, allowing four goals in a miscue-filled match that featured multiple blown opportunities, missed passes, off-target shots, and offside penalties galore. Donald Westing saw more playing time in this match, allowing only one goal to Green’s three in approximately equal playing time. This time, Garren announced that Westing would start the next match at keeper, saying that he had “earned the slot.”
Record: 5-0-2
Goals For/Against: 13-8

West Angola 4–3 Alexanderburn
Donald Westing’s second start at keeper did not go anywhere near as well as his first one had. Westing himself was benched at halftime when the score stood at 2-2, and Green came back on to replace him. Over the course of the last forty-five minutes, Green allowed only one goal in his time, and managed to save a flurry of Alexanderburni shots in the closing minutes as Luke Parrish nailed the go ahead score in the 90th minute to cap a skin-of-their-teeth victory for the gold and blue.
Record: 6-0-2
Goals For/Against: 17-11

Runimia 3–3 West Angola
Having made their way through qualifying without a draw, (West Angola won the unofficial “Draw Cup” during World Cup 63 with eight draws) many analysts within the West Angolan footballing community had begun to voice the idea that West Angola might escape the first leg of qualifying without a single upset draw. Unfortunately, this was a pipe dream, as West Angola could not manage to hold off Runimia in the closing minutes of their final match, succumbing to a 3-3 draw despite leading 3-1 in the 79th minute and 3-2 with just four minutes to play. Peter Wilson, Luke Parrish, and Jan Pawel all scored a goal, but a controversial penalty in the 87th minute gave Runimia a chance to knot the score. When Blake Green tripped on a bad patch of ground and the ball snapped into the back of the net, a cheer not heard before in that stadium issued from the Runimian faithful. Despite the best efforts of West Angola’s attack, the team could not manage another score, and West Angola was forced to return to Namibe with only one point, and third place in the group.
Record: 6-1-2
Goals For/Against: 20-14

Our Analysis: West Angola looked very good for the first part of this leg, but absolutely collapsed against Bears Armed and Runimia, and looked very bad against Alexanderburn, barely escaping with a 4-3 victory. If West Angola can correct some of the issues we saw in these later stage matches in the return leg, they might be able to secure the qualifying spot, but if they can’t, they’ll be sitting at home hoping for a Cup of Harmony invitation.
Predicted Final Record: 14-1-3
Predicted Group Finish: 2nd

"Woo we won."

"Yeah, especially after that ugly loss to Sylvanaes, that was a great return to normal. Showed the guys didnt feel too bad about the loss."

"And Adolf did better in goal, than the opposition keeper so we shouldn't be worried about the rest of the tourney, until he gets hurt again."

"Yeah."

"So forth half way, thats great. Even if we are the three seeds, Earo has been a great surprise and is sure to be out of the running soon."

"A win here or there and we catch up to Sylvanaes. Especially if we stay even with them and defeat them we really could somehow continue."

"We have a real chance."

"For now."

"Yeah, well we shall seen soon"
