It's pretty annoying. I'm making more money today than I've ever made in my life but I'm still struggling to find an apartment (2 jobs and a 2 bedroom apartment is out of my price range - seriously?), pay for my daughters well-being, car insurance and repairs, etc. and etc. and motherfucking etc. Family planning is definitely an important part of my well being. I can't pay for another kid at this point. Contraception is not only a necessity for that reason but for other medical reasons, as well.

That's the funny bit. It's the top 1% who are asking for you to pay. They have the most say in our political process. The most responsibility for the state of our economy and our government debt. And they pay the least amount in relation to the amount of money they've pulled out of the economy (which, by the way, is bad for the economy). But they don't actually want to stop spending. (That's why Republicans signed a pledge not to raise taxes, or even close the loopholes that make it so the very rich pay less taxes than the middle class but have not signed a pledge to lower spending).

If you compare taxes to wealth, the uber-rich are the ones screwing you. But they don't want you to notice so they convince that cops are getting paid too much. And fireman. And social workers. And district attorneys. And soldiers. (All government employees). And the convince you that the huge percentage of this country that live below the poverty line is really the reason you don't have any money. That guy making 15000 grand a year is really the reason you don't have a summer home. And they convinced you that really it's not all the Americans buying stuff that creates jobs. Nope. They create jobs out of the kindness of their hearts. So we can't ask them to put back into the system they got so much out of. That would kill jobs. Because, as a small business owner, I don't employ people because there is a demand for my product. Nope. I just hire people whenever I have extra money. That's just good business.

(By the way, if you really think that is how business works, please take a class. Successful business people like the ones in Congress know that isn't how it works. But they missed the part in their Bibles where it says not to bear false witness.)

As someone who has been incredibly fortunate in the American economy, I would be a horrible person and the opposite of a patriot if I did not feel like I owe something to the country that helped me get here and the people supported me. Yes, I worked hard. Yes, I earned what I have. But I didn't do it in a vacuum. And I have an obligation to ensure that others have the good fortune of good health and a good education so they have the same opportunities I did.

First of all, well done on your family's part. Industrious people are needed to advance this country, and we're glad to have you.

With that said, mandating that insurance companies offer birth control as part of their coverage and mandating that all people have some form of healthcare coverage does not amount to tax dollars funding contraception. What it amounts to is private consumers who pay for their insurance plans (such as yourself) being able to rest assured that their contraception is covered by the premiums that they (that is, not you) pay for.

It's nothing like making you pay for someone's condoms. It's like making the drug store carry condoms while still requiring customers to buy their own condoms.

That said, the very point that your friend of a lower income can afford a wildly extravagant car is proof that you genuinely don't get it. That's what has gotten sad about this country. People used to actually be thankful when they were privileged. Now they whine like children about how they wanted every toy in the store and instead only got half the store.

I'll say this about the rich, they've accomplished something brilliant. 100 people are in a room and they're all hungry so they order enough pizza to feed 1000 people. 1 person in the room says, "Hey, you know what, I like you guys, so I'm going to pay 50% of the cost of the pizza." 40 people in the room put in whatever money they have but it's not enough to for them to pay for what they need to no longer be hungry. The remaining 59 people pay for about 40% of the pizza. When the pizza arrives the 1 person who paid the most takes 95% of the pizza. Now there isn't enough for everyone else to eat. They start to turn on the one guy, but somehow, amazingly, he convinces them that the fact that he has way more pizza than he could ever eat is not the problem. He instead convinces them that the problem is the 40 people who, in fact, don't have any pizza.

That's what is silly about what people are arguing. There is plenty to go around. More than enough. So if you feel like you're not getting enough, don't look at the guy who is starving and ask him to stop eating your pizza. Look at the guy smiling while refusing to share the pizza you all earned.
