I turned 22 last Monday. And it appears i've entered a new age bracket if that poll has anything to say about it. Joy of joys.

The sun in their opposite sign! It's very auspicious!

Or at least that's the reading I give for the kids I like. If they look at me wrong I make a very gloomy horoscope for them. Sometimes their parents pay extra to have me calculate it again. I would never do that just for the money, but sometimes I enjoy getting another kick in.

Not to be mean, but you mean the mean. :p

The mean is indeed a "type" of average. They're the same thing.

The median, however ...

Yes, and the median is something different. It's not an average.

For the purpose of this thread, the median age is the age where half the other posters are older and half of them are younger.

I'll do the final calculation of mean and median ages on 20 December 2011. Just over a week from now.

16 myself!

Out of curiosity, why? Remember, some of us in that age range are the people that invented the hardware and wrote the software that eventually made NS possible. OK so we young when we did it, but we remember the buzz of playing Pong or some other game when we were supposed to be finishing the accounts or searching a database. We also remember the little thrill of hitting the "boss key" (every worthwhile game had one) when a manager came into view. And now, either we're senior enough in the job that we can do what we please, or we're self-employed, or we're retired. Either way, we can play any game that interests us. I'm surprised that more of my fellow old-timers haven't checked in yet. I know they're here somewhere.

*snip*

I'll do a full count of posted ages, and calculate an average/median about four hours from now. Then I'll leave it alone until the 20th.

EDIT: About four hours from then I was outside in the rain. Then I was tired. Then I spent four hours trying to work out why accounting for declared ages still gives a lower average age than simply using the poll data (eventually deciding it wasn't an error, it just DOES), and making another graph. Kids, this is how people get old.

Average age of NSG posters: 21 years and 1 month
Median age of NSG posters: 18 years and 4 months

Any chance you might want to let this go longer, and find a way to involve a lot more of the thousands of NS players? Your sample as it stands now is going to be small and probably not representative of NS.

Oh, it won't ever be representative of NS. It's not intended to be representative of anything but the NS members who read General. It probably includes quite a few members who never post on NS General but drop by to watch the OOC freaks trolling each other. They can vote too.

I think I would need moderator approval before posting a thread like this in every NS forum. And a reason, other than curiosity.

But I will "let" this go as long as it goes. There is no time limit on the poll. I will give the best summary I can on 20 Dec 2011, and I may make further summaries after that if there are more votes or posts.
