AI usage, withdrawal policy, and other miscellany

Welcome to Liventia for the 63rd World Baseball Classic finals. It is the first time since WBC 9 that the prestigious international baseball tournament will be hosted in Liventia.

While the Red-and-Gold, as Liventia's national teams are known, usually rotate between two main stadiums (Port Cartford Park and Orean Capital Grounds) for WBC qualifying games, this tournament has seen Baseball Liventia select 10 different parks for use. The 14 teams qualifying automatically for the playoffs (including Liventia) will have their choice of 'home' park for use throughout the finals tournament. The remaining two teams qualifying through the play-in/wildcard round will be assigned a park from the 10. Each team's selected DH rules will apply.

The parks in question are:
Port Cartfort Park (Port Cartfort), capacity 24,100
Home ground of Port Cartfort Saboteurs
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 317ft, left field 349ft, left-centre 397ft, centre field 429ft, right-centre 402ft, right field 366ft, right foul pole 322ft; wall height 7ft in left/left-centre, 13ft in centre, 15ft in right/right-centre
Right-handed hitters have far more joy at PCP than left-handed hitters. There are also a high number of triples and thanks to the dimensions, inside-the-park home runs are not uncommon at PCP. For this reason, it is a mainstay for the Liventian national team, which is usually built around fast runners.

Orean Capital Grounds (Orean), international capacity 38,000
Home ground of the Capital Tiger-Cats
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 321ft, left field 352ft, left-centre 376ft, centre field 416ft, right-centre 378ft, right field 340ft, right foul pole 319ft; wall height 9ft throughout
Favours left-handed and right-handed hitters equally. A 'typical' field with no weird configurations in outfield, the Capital Grounds is the oldest ground in Orean and has been known by many names through its existence. It fell into disuse when the old Liventian league folded, although it was used for casual amateur games. The new club bought the ground from the city council and reduced the stadium capacity, although 16,000 additional temporary seats will be reinstalled – as it is every WBC – to host the tournament.

The Coliseum (City Centre), capacity 27,256
Home ground of the City Centre Keys
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 274ft, left field 336ft, left-centre 386ft, centre field 413ft, right-centre 384ft, right field 314ft, right foul pole 335ft; wall height 0ft in straightaway left to the pole (literally just soft padding the height of a brick), 8ft in left field, 9ft from left-centre to right-centre, tall wall of 35ft in right field
Wonky dimensions? You got it. An extremely short left-field porch, the result of limited space in the neighbourhood The Coliseum was first built in, means right-handed hitters have a ton of home run joy in City Centre. It's not terrible for left-handers either as long as they can clear the tall wall in right – or go oppo.

Talons Ballpark (Schimpol), capacity 22,200
Home ground of the Lox Land Talons
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 335ft, left field 374ft, left-centre 419ft, centre field 431ft, right-centre 414ft, right field 369ft, right foul pole 334ft; wall height 7ft throughout
You want extra-base hits? You got them. Just don't expect them to come in the form of round-trippers that often. A really deep centre field means you need fast outfielders here – and anything in the gap is a guaranteed double, if not a triple. At least the walls are standard?

The Oyster Net (Orean), capacity 19,800
Home ground of the Outer Orean Oysters
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 335ft, left field 375ft, left-centre 419ft, centre field 433ft, right-centre 418ft, right field 365ft, right foul pole 336ft; wall height 9ft throughout
Wait, did someone just copy and paste the Talons Ballpark into Orean? At least it's got a funny name.

Desert Field (Folenisa), capacity 21,900
Home ground of the Desert Counts
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 326ft, left field 351ft, left-centre 376ft, centre field 417ft, right-centre 379ft, right field 341ft, right foul pole 315ft; wall height 9ft throughout
It's in the Folenisa Desert, what more do you want from a name? A pretty standard ballpark, maybe a little small. Good for the power hitters, especially in the hotter air of the desert. Yes, it is air conditioned.

Arena Dover North (Dover), capacity 24,100
Home ground of the North Dover Buzzards
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 349ft, left field 386ft, left-centre 445ft, centre field 446ft, right-centre 432ft, right field 384ft, right foul pole 339ft; wall height 9ft throughout
Home runs to dead centre? Forget it. Get those running shoes on; you'll need them here. Is it really any surprise Liventia's baseball team has so many good runners, when they have to play in stadiums like these all the time?

Rapiers Spooner's Park (Olympton), capacity 24,300
Home ground of the Olympton Rapiers
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 333ft, left field 373ft, left-centre 424ft, centre field 430ft, right-centre 415ft, right field 373ft, right foul pole 332ft; wall height 7ft throughout
Sponsored by national supermaket chain Spooner's, this is another park with relatively deep dimensions. Where are all the hitter's parks? They're coming…

Boister Grounds (Boister), international capacity 18,800
Home ground of the Boister Green Jackets
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 325ft, left field 348ft, left-centre 384ft, centre field 421ft, right-centre 374ft, right field 345ft, right foul pole 321ft; wall height 9ft throughout
Normally seats only 8,800, although 10,000 temporary seats are being added for the tournament in the outfield. A hitter's park more than a pitcher's park, both home runs and doubles/triples have a home in Boister.

Ballpark of Trenver (Trenver), capacity 10,600
Home ground of the Trenver Red Wings
Dimensions:
Left foul pole 305ft, left field 322ft, left-centre 351ft, centre field 413ft, right-centre 362ft, right field 342ft, right foul pole 310ft; wall height 7ft from left pole to right-centre, growing to 15ft in right field/down right foul line
Yes, it's a small park. Yes, in more ways than one – dimensionally as well as capacity. The Red Wings declined to have additional seating installed for the WBC, choosing to stick to their small-town charm. Forget about doubles or triples here – it's home runs if you want extra base hits.

After the conclusion of the group stage, the top 14 seeds will be invited to rank their preferred 'home' grounds from the above from 1 through 10. Prioritising the top eight seeds (or Liventia and the top seven seeds, should Liventia not be among the top eight seeds), each team will be assigned the first possible ground from the top of their list to play all their 'home' games in the finals.

Visiting team accommodations:
The visiting team will be staying at the resort hotel Stellar Canidae Base. A space themed water park resort hotel located 15 mins away from the Neo Scootalove City Unicorns stadium. Connected directly by cannonball transport and, for less adventurous guests, the hotel's express subway system to Neo Scootalove City Unicorns Stadium. Stellar Canidae Base is a 4 star resort hotel and water park. Guests are welcome to enjoy the high speed thrills of the waterslides, such as 'Comet Tail ', a one person slide where the floor drops out, and riders experience a highspeed free fall from 16 meters into a 360-degree, highspeed loop before landing in a 'Sea of Stars'. Fun fact: this is Skibidi Rizz's personal favorite waterslide of all time. She got on it for the first time during one of many dare contests between her and Pixie Knight, challenging each other to go on scarier and scarier rides.
This is just one of many waterslides offered here. Along with a lazy river and an adults only hot tub.

Food options at the resort are plentiful and all appropriately themed. The Star Bar and Grill is an outdoor bar that features Nachos, tacos, and various alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Eris's Ice Cream Treats has milkshakes and ice cream. Ariel's Waterside Refueling Station serves burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, poutine, and salad. Amalthea the Second personally recommends the Boba Nebula shop to any guests, opposing team or not. Her favorite flavor is the Starberry Milk tea with a Fox paw cake pop to go along with it.

Along with other things like an arcade, minigolf, bowling, and a 'Star Canidae Force' batting cage for any guest to use. Complete with Scootalove City Unicorns official branding and theming.

Home stadium:
Neo Scootalove City Unicorns stadium is unsurprisingly a stadium in Scootalove City. Originally designed for other sports like snowball fights, it is the home of the Scootalove City Unicorns.

Over the years of inactivity, the stadium needed to be renovated in order to reactivate the team and hold baseball games once more. The stadium was renovated to add more seats, modern upgrades, and more comfortable seats.

Scootalove City is 30 KM away from Muffin City and named for Former Leader Rainbow Dash's sister relationship with her 'little goofball' Scootaloo.

Seats 50,267, retractable roof, Cannonball transport system set up right next to the building, food court with a "meat" section and a " non-meat" section, window boxes, and a bar.

Currently has the following banners raised:
World Baseball Classic 38 Playoff team
World Baseball Classic 40 Quarterfinalist team
World Baseball Classic 41 Semifinalists
World Baseball Classic 42 Third place

Also has a gift shop with convenient currency exchange to Awesomes.

Team mascot:

Their mascot is the Doofy Unicorn, a unicorn with a tongue sticking out with a donut and a lampshade on her horn.

A Visiting team's guide to Scootalove City:
As you get off the plane and leave Scootalove City Airport and enter Scootalove City Grand Central Station, you get greeted by two... obvious umamusumes in fake mustaches. "Welcome to Scootalove City!" she states as she hands you your Stellar Canidae Base tickets and a Pamphlet called "Pixie Knight's and Skibidi Rizz's Guide To Scootalove City". The pamphlet has been graffitied. As the last of your team gets their hotel tickets and pamphlets, a Grand Central Station employee comes running up to the odd Umas. "Pixie Knight! Skibidi Rizz! Are you two handing out your prank pamphlets again!?"
The two giggle and run cartoonishly away as Pixie Knight transforms into a fairy and opens a portal to make their escape.

After taking the city subway to the Stellar Canidae Base hotel and finishing unpacking, you open up the graffitied pamphlets out of curiosity. Note: bold text is text that was added via graffiti from the two pranksters.

"Welcome to Scootalove City! Whether or not you arrived here by plane, train, or interuniversal portal, we welcome you to the city!"

"Basic facts: population of 347,420. Main transportation: cannonball transportation system if you are cool and not lame, both an express subway system for high traffic areas and a regular subway for normal city transport for losers too chicken to really fly!" A doodle of a scared chicken is shown on the photo of the cannonball transport system, being shot out of the cannon.

"Main exports of coffee, artisan cheese and your butts after the unicorns kick yours!" The words "Luxury Ice Cream" are crossed out. A doodle of a stickman being kicked in the butt from two stickman umas, one with fairy wings, is shown. Drawn on top of a picture of Neo Scootalove City stadium.

The pamphlet goes on like this, talking about the subway you took to get to Stellar Canidae Base hotel, local ice cream and milkshake restaurants, basic city history. Also, how meat and non meat options are available in separate zones of the various restaurants. The city's 'vibe' leans towards vegetarianism, but there are plenty of meat options available from sustainable, ethical meat farms to host the omnivore population and guests like yourself. On the back of the pamphlet, you see one more graffitied section: "Seriously though, welcome to the city. Hope you have fun here before we kick your butt!" A heart is drawn here. "If you could do us a favor, though, and spend too much time in the waterpark so you could forfeit the match that would win and you get a free vacation, then I'd see that as a win-win! Signed S.R and P.K"

You sigh and roll your eyes with a smile. This city is going to be strange, yet fun.

Rebirth:

After years of inactivity, baseball suddenly resurged in popularity. The new baseball generation would come from Umamusume, a new sapient species in The Derpy Democratic Republic of Herp.
Umamusume love to race on the track, but increasingly are geting an interest in baseball.
Meanwhile, the old generation of unicorns grew older and started their own families but never stopped their love of baseball.

Races of TDDROH:
The rights of all citizens regardless of there race/species are highly protected under a general rights of all sapient species bill of rights. This is needed beacuse of the diverse population of sapient species TDDROH has. There are:
    Humans
    Earth ponies
    Pegasi
    Unicorns
    Umamusume
    Fairies
Umamusume hybrids such as fairy Umamusume

The player roster this WBC cycle are all Umamusume and one Umamusume hybrid (Pixie Knight is an fairy Umamusume hybrid ).
Other supporting staff and miscellaneous stadium staff are a mix of all of the above races listed. The parents of the Umamusume on the player roster are humans and Umamusume unless otherwise noted (eg: being adopted).

Miscellaneous player lore highlights:

The following are highlights taken from TDDROH Sports chat interviews with the new generation of players.

Zoey Derpus adopted Alyx Derpus and raised her as her own. Alyx grew up in a loving single-parent household. Spoiled sweet by her loving mother, she has the personality of a friendly diva who loves to dress up. She brightens everyone's day with her presence and designed the team uniforms and the stage outfits for each player for post home game concerts. She was super excited to find out she was accepted to play third base, and she and her adoptive mom celebrated late into the night.

Image

Skibidi Rizz is the... eccentric daughter of Steve 'The Bat' Gat. Originally, she tried out for the role of Doofy Unicorn, but her running skills and nimble acrobatics shown in her audition for the role promoted her to first baseman. Known for her mischievous spirit and her fearsome presence at the bat, she is beloved by fans, feared by rivals.
Pixie Knight is a hybrid of a Fairy from Magic Dimension and an Umamusume, living in of The Derpy Democratic Republic Of Herp. An excellent second baseman who gets along well with her partner Skibidi Rizz at first base.

'Lady' Amalthea the Second is the adopted daughter of Amalthea 'The Last Unicorn' Beagle. Known for elegant control of the ball and skills taught directly by Amalthea Beagle. A proper lady, yet with her own free soul. She focuses on elegant yet tricky sliders.

Bonnie Scotland and Jannette are umamusame orphan sisters found on a beach in Alto Mare. Stuart Jones, working as a lifeguard, spotted them wash on shore. After checking that they where ok, he began to see if these two kids belonged to anyone. After an initial search of the beach and local Alto Mare population, it was found that no record of them existed anywhere. He officially adopted both of them into his family the next day. Jannette is an umamusame with a love of singing, stunts, racing, and of course, baseball. Jannette's love of singing inspired the rest of the Scootalove City Unicorns to hold post-home-game idol-style concerts, much like the nation's own umamusame national racing league. She flies around with a jet pack, along with Pixie Knight with her magic wings on stage shows. Bonnie Scotland, or just Bonnie, is an explosive daredevil. Her first time using the cannonball transport system, she loved it and became a circus brat. She never leaves home without her custom cannon named Clyde. Clyde is a type of custom cannon capable of self-propulsion and launching Bonnie out of itself at any moment. It is her pride and joy. She uses it during stage shows, normal transportation, stunts, just about anything, anywhere, and any time. Bonnie always loves performing crazy stunts and has made herself a name on the stuntman scene and the circus fair. At just 15, she was performing for the Alto Mare city carnival that celebrates the start of summer. The three are inseparably close.
Stuart Jones moved from Alto Mare to Scootalove City and now works at Stellar Canidae Base Resort Hotel as the head lifeguard. He uses his off hours to watch every single show, game, race, or event that either one of his daughters is in.

Bonnie just turned 20 the day that the return of the Scootalove City Unicorns was announced. Knowing of her sister's love of pitching, she signed up as a relief pitcher to complement her sister's starting pitcher role. Together with Jannette's curveballs and her own blazing fastballs, they become an unstoppable duo that wreaks havoc on the opposing team's offense!

Contrail Nova is the daughter of Stuart Nova. Contrail Nova has been taught everything she knows about base running and bat control by her father, Stuart Nova, the hero of Scootalove City after his grand slam in the WBC41 Playoffs. They have a very close father daughter relationship. Contrail Nova, in her field position of shortstop, was something that she chose. Contrail loves to run, and outside of baseball she won major Umamusume racing events nationally and even a classic Triple Crown. She hasn't given up on racing, not at all, in fact. When the baseball season is over, she will rest up for a bit and then get right back to racing. She chose shortstop to tag runners between second and third. Outside of racing and baseball, she loved playing tag with her dad as a child. The team's moral compass and the general heart of the team, Contrail Nova keeps this rowdy team together and tight-knit. They have the heart, the energy, and the love of the sport to shake off the years of slumber of the once giant Scootalove City Unicorns and make their debut on the interuniversal stage. Under the hopes and dreams of Contrail Nova, will the unicorns rise to their heights? We don't know for certain until the starting gates open, but hopes are high for this rag tag close nit bunch of weirdo horse girls.
It is nearly time to fully meet each other at last. These girls won't stop till the games are finished!

She got on it for the first time during one of many dare contests between her and Pixie Knight of challenging each other to go on scaryer and scaryer rides.
This is just one of many waterslides offered here. Along with a lazy river, and an adults only hot tub.

Food options at the resort is plentful and all appropriately themed. The Star Bar and Grill an outdoor bar that features Nachos, tacos and various alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Eris's Ice Cream Treats with milkshakes, icecream. Ariel's Waterside Refueling Station serving burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, hotdogs, poutine and, salad. Amalthea the Second personally recomends the Boba Nebula shop to any guests, opposing team or not. Her favorite flavor is the Starberry Milk tea with a Fox paw cake pop to go along with it.

Along with other things like an arcade, minigolf, bowling, and a 'Star Canidae Force' batting cage for any guest to use. Compleate with Scootalove City Unicorns offical branding and themeing.

The stadium was renovated to add in more seats, modern upgrades and more comfy seats.

Scootalove city being 30 KM away from Muffin City and named for Former Leader Rainbow Dash's sister relationship with her 'little goofball' Scootaloo.

Seats 50,267, retractable roof, Cannonball transport system set up right next to the building, food court with a "meat" section and a not "meat" section, window boxes and, a bar.

Currently has the following banners raised:
World Baseball Classic 38 Playoff team
World Baseball Classic 40 Quarterfinalist team
World Baseball Classic 41 Semifinalists
World Baseball Classic 42 Third place

Has also a gift shop with convenient currency exchange to Awesomes.

Team mascot:

There mascot is the Doofy Unicorn, a unicorn with a tongue sticking out with a donut and a lampshade on her horn.

A Visting teams guide to Scootalove city:
As you get off the plane and leave Scootalove City Airport and enter Scootalove City Grand Central Station, you get greeted by two... obvious umamusumes in fake mustaches. "Welcome to Scootalove City!" she states as she hands your Stellar Canidae Base tickets and a Pamphlet called "Pixie Knight's and Skibidi Rizz's Guide To Scootalove City". The pamphlet has been graffitied. As the last of your team gets there hotel tickets and pamphlets a Grand Central Station employee comes runing up to the odd Umas. "Pixie Knight! Skibidi Rizz! Are you two handing out your prank pamphlets again!?"
The two giggle and run cartoonishly away as Pixie Knight transforms into a fairy and opens a portal to make there escape.

After takeing the city subway to the Stellar Canidae Base hotel and are finished unpacking, you open up the graffitied pamphlets out of curiosity. Note, bold text is text that was added in via graffiti from the two pranksters.

"Welcome to Scootalove City! Whether or not you arrived here from plane, train or interuniversal portal we welcome you to the city!"

"Basic facts: population of 347,420. Main transportation cannonball transportation system if you are cool and not lame, both an express subway system for high traffic areas and regular subway for normal city transport for losers too chicken to really fly!" A doodle of a scared chicken is shown on the photo of the cannonball transport system, being shot out of the cannon.

"Main exports of coffee, artisan cheese and your butts after the unicorns kick yours!" The words "Luxury Ice Cream" are crossed out. A doodle of a stickman being kicked in the butt from two stickman umas, one with fairy wings is shown. Drawn ontop of a picture of Neo Scootalove City stadium.

The pamphlet goes on like this, talking about the subway you took to get to Stellar Canidae Base hotel, local ice cream and milkshake restaurants, basic city history. Also how meat and non meat options are available in separate zones of the various restaurants. The citys 'vibe' leans towards vegetarianism but there are plenty of meat options available from sustanable ethical meat farms to host the omnivore population and guests like yourself. On the back of the pamphlet you see one more graffitied section "Seriously though welcome to the city. Hope you have fun here before we kick your butt!" A heart is drawn here. "If you could do us a favor though and spend too much time in the waterpark so you could forfeit the match that would win and you get a free vacation then I'd see that as a win win! Signed S.R and P.K"

You sigh and roll your eyes with a smile. This city is going to be strange, yet fun.

Rebirth:

After years of inactivity, baseball suddenly resurged in popularty. The new baseball generation would come from Umamusume, a new sapient species in The Derpy Democratic Republic Of Herp.
Umamusume love to race on the track, but increasingly are geting an interest in baseball.
Meanwhile the old generation of unicorns grew older and started there own familys but never stoped there love of baseball.

Miscellaneous player lore highlights:

The following are highlights taken from TDDROH Sports chat interviews with the new generation of players.

Zoey Derpus adopted Alyx Derpus and raised her as her own. Alyx grew up in a loveing single parent household. Spoiled sweet by her loveing mother she has the personality of a friendly diva who loves to dress up. She sparkles up everyones day with her presence and desgined the team uniforms and the stage outfits for each player for post home game concerts. She was super excited to find out she was acepted to play third basemen and her and her adoptive mom celebrated late into the night.
Skibidi Rizz is the... eccentric daughter of Steve 'The bat' Gat. Orginaly she tryed out for the roll of Doofy Unicorn, but her running skills and nimble acrobatics shown in her audition for the roll promoted her to first baseman. Known for her mischievous spirit and her fearsome presence at the bat, she is beloved by fans, feared by rivals.
Pixie Knight is a hybrid of a Fairy from Magic Dimension and an Umamusume, liveing in of The Derpy Democratic Republic Of Herp. An excellent second basemen who gets along well with her partner Skibidi Rizz at first base.

'Lady' Amalthea the Second is the adopted daughter of Amalthea 'The Last Unicorn' Beagle. Known for elegant control of the ball and skills taught directly from Amalthea Beagle. Proper lady like yet with her own free soul. She focuses on elegant yet tricky sliders.

Bonnie Scotland and Jannette are umamusame orphan sisters found on a beach Alto Mare. Stuart Jones working as a life guard spotted them wash on shore. After checking that they where ok, he begin to see if these two kids belonged to anyone. After an initial search of the beach and local Alto Mare population, it was found that no record of them existed it seemed anywhere. He officaly adopted both of them into his family the next day. Jannette is an umamusame with a love of singing, stunts, raceing and ofcourse, baseball. Jannet's love of singing inspired the rest of the Scootalove City Unicorns to hold post home game idol style concerts, much like the nations own umamusame national raceing league. She flys around with a jet pack along with Pixie Knight with her magic wings on stage shows. Bonnie Scotland, or just Bonnie is an explosive daredevil. Her first time useing the cannonball transport system she loved and became a circus brat. She never leaves home without her custom cannon named Clyde. Clyde is a type of custom cannon capable of self-propulsion and launching Bonnie out of itself at any moment. It is her pride and joy. She uses it during stage shows, normal transportation, stunts, just about anything anywhere and any time. Bonnie allways loves performing crazy stunts and has made herself a name on the stuntman scene and the circus fair. At just 15 she was preforming for the Alto Mare city carnival that celebrates the start of summer. The three are inseparably close.
Stuart Jones moved from Alto Mare to Scootalove City now works at Stellar Canidae Base Resort Hotel as the head lifeguard. He uses his off hours to watch every single show, game, race or event that either one of his daughters is in.

Bonnie just turned 20 the day that the return of the Scootalove City Unicorns was announced. Knowing of her sisters love of pitching, she signed up as a relief pitcher to complment her sisters starting pitcher role. Together with Jannette's curve balls and her own blazeing fast balls, they become an unstopable duo that wreaks havoc on the opposing teams offense!

Contrail Nova is the daughter of Stuart Nova. Contrail Nova has been taught everything she knows on base runing and bat control from her father Stuart Nova, the hero of scootalove city after his grand slam in WBC41 Playoffs. They have a very close father daughter relationship. Contrail Nova on her field position of short stop was something that she chose. Contrail loves to run and outside of baseball she won major Umamusame raceing events nationaly and even a clasic triple crown. She hasnt given up on raceing, not at all infact. When the baseball season is over she will rest up for a bit and then get right back to raceing. She chose shortstop to tag runners between second and third. Outside of raceing and baseball she loved playing tag with her dad as a child. The teams moral compass and the general heart of the team, Contrail Nova keeps this rowdy team together and tight nit. They have the heart, the energy and, the love of the sport to shake off the years of slumber of the once giant Scootalove City Unicorns and make there debut on the interuniversal stage. Under the hopes and dreams of Contrail Nova, will the unicorns rise to there hights? We dont know for certain untill the starting gates open, but hopes are high for this rag tag close nit bunch of weirdo horse girls.
It is nearly time to fully meet eachother at last. These girls won't stop till the games are finished!

Left-wing Utopia

Postby Zwangzug » Wed Sep 30, 2026 10:28 am

Team Zwangzug, known as the "Zebras," were an early force in the WBC but later faded from relevance. They competed consistently through WBC31, reappeared for 39 and 40, and then popped back again in cycle 49, having entered the last few since then. In WBC55, they were runners-up to South Newlandia in an epic extra-inning game seven. Happily, the 39-40 cycle saw Felix Wainwright break the alleged radio announcers' curse. This doesn't mean we'll necessarily have competent announcers, or any announcers at all; just that we could have some capable of holding down the job for multiple cycles. If we wanted to.

Like their distant ancestors, the Zebras are a defensively-minded team overall, eschewing many power hitters in favor of patience at the plate. Pitchers, likewise, tend more towards finesse than speed. There is no DH used when we play at our home stadium (the Worm Hole in Spenson). They tend to be somewhat new-mathy with regards to not bunting, not stealing very much, etc.

Manager: Griffith Puyo-Sachar (m). Formerly a shortstop for the Weegham Rainmakers, and a Zebras player in cycles 52-54. Now manager of the 102d Gray Sox. His wife, Nancy, is a former midfielder for the national football team. When not angsting over determinism versus free will or the dangers of robots to human identity, Griffith is actually a rather pleasant person. That he took over as Zebras manager as early as WBC55 was a slight surprise, but it paid off splendidly as the national team reached the championship series.

For the Eight Nations Shield, we put together a lineup of "Colts" from the university league. We didn't want to make the names go to waste, so now we're augmented our roster to a 36-player slate. (We're only allowed to change our roster size if we change it to a perfect square, apparently.)

List here, by position, in rough depth-chart order. Feel free to mix and match from this. Most players can shift position slightly (infielders likely to switch to other infield, outfielders to other outfield or DH, etc.) Relievers are in very rough decreasing-leverage priority order. We have people whose primary position is DH even though we don't use the DH at home. Everyone has to know their place.

Factbook is ludicrously out of date by now and just linked for tradition's sake. More information about the country is available on the wiki and is infrequently being added to. If you RP first, please feel free to pick my lineup, pitchers, and runscorers; RP injuries to my players; and eject my players. Please contact me first if you want to do something like literal godmoding, anything that would cause long-term harm to my citizens/in my country, or RP a no-hitter or statistically rare on-field event.

Garifunya WBC 63 Roster

Nickname: Dolfijnen
Acronym: GAR
Style Mod (if applicable): -2

Roster

Starting Rotation (order in schedule)
RHP #30 Hendriks Krijgsmaan, 30 - Ace of the staff and of the Frederykvil Dolfijnen, Krijgsmaan brings a fastball that tops out at 96 (93-94 typical), a sharp slider, and a biting curveball as well as excellent composure, he is the only hurler without warts on this squad
RHP #31 Klaas Wynja, 25 - featuring both a sinking and cutting fastball, as well as a good changeup, the ace of the Frederykvil Heiligen has somewhat reverse platoon splits and relies on getting a lot of ground balls, keeps a nickel curve for emergencies
LHP #32 Vincent Kamara, 22 - the Roidutse Bwahakkers have something special on their hands, from his big windup, Kamara can produce both a 98 MPH fastball and 90 MPH slider, but needs a better third pitch than his curve, has scattershot control, and velocity drops by 2-4 MPH from the stretch
RHP #33 Lodewijk Sint-Franciscus, 27 - Vrijport's top starter's 2-seam fastball only runs from 88-91, but he bores it in on the hands of righties and has a strong change, big sweeper, and knuckle curve, control and pitchability are his watchwords, watch out if he gets into a rhythm

Bullpen (ascending order of leverage)
RHP #43 Matthijs Jansen, 31 - Lokomotief's top starter will operate in relief, he's a big dude with three solid pitches (fastball, changeup, curve) and solid control, but more consistent than spectacular
LHP #42 Boudewijn Buitenweg, 34 - big 11-5 curve is his primary weapon, excellent at hitting the corners with his 89 MPH fastball, slow worker may have trouble with a pitch clock
RHP #41 Abel Jurgens, 23 - over the top delivery, releases the ball almost behind his head, fastball has good carry (IVB), sharp 12-6 curve, but velocity nothing impressive
RHP #40 Rodney Mbiya, 25 - violent delivery, throws from a low sidearm slot, whips the ball toward home, can get up to 97 with a hard slider, that's if he can find the plate
LHP #39 Robert-Jan Temmink, 27 - big sweeper is death to lefties, but keep him away from righties
RHP #37 Abdullah Kuilman, 34 - curve, two types of sliders, cutter help this wily veteran keep hitters off balance, velocity subpar
LHP #36 Wilkens Kambata, 26 - only 5'9, but generates a lot of velocity with drop-and-drive, tight, compact delivery, 95 MPH fastball and hard changeup means he throws a lot of strikes and is effective against lefties and righties
RHP #35 Albert Calixte, 32 - rotund veteran set-up man throws a forkball more often than not, fastball nothing to write home about, but it gets the job done
RHP #34 Dirk Knuijt, 25 - lanky closer has good velocity and good run on his fastball, can spin a tight slider for strikes, split change is his kill pitch

Valanora Hawks roster for WBC 63

The Eternal Empire of Valanora consists of the mainland of Valanora, the island state of Vyinta, the island of Capri, the nomadic tribes of the Dark Templara, as well as the nation of Sabine and Caddonia.

Roster

Starting Pitchers
1. RHP Tiril Olstad, age 30 (F) - Decent fastball but her changeup and sinkers are elite.
2. LHP Marion Nordbø, age 33 (F) - Good all around pitcher, likes to work the corners.
3. RHP Martin Hynne, age 32 - Blazing fastball but does not have the best control when under pressure.
4. RHP Luna Rogne, age 25 (F) - She's not going to overwhelm you with velocity but her change ups and curveballs are quite deceptive.
5. LHP Margrethe Zielinski, age 22 (F) - Decent two seam and four seam but her curve is her signature pitch.

Relief Pitchers
MR RHP Anton Haugland, age 34 - Has a fastball that they dare batters to try and keep up with.
MR LHP Jonas Bakken, age 31 - Variety of fastballs and a good sinker to keep opponents on their toes.
MR LHP Thea Helle, age 31 (F) - Decent all around pitcher but does seem to overly on her curveball when in a pinch.
SR RHP Sigurd Yttervik, age 34 - Knows he's better than you and even has a knuckleball in his arsenal just for kicks.
SR LHP Aksel Berntsen, age 24 - Relies heavily on sliders and change ups.
SU RHP Ulrik Skauen, age 26 - A fastball that tops 100 mph and good off speed pitches but lacks the endurance to be a starting pitcher.
CL LHP Lukas Hassan, age 25 - Highly inflated ego and confidence that are better than his actual pitching but it seems to get the job done more often than not.

The History of Baysball (sic) in Paradystopia.

From Antiquity to Immediately prior to the present:

Did not exist

From Not long before WBC61 to WBC61:

An unknown cricket player, likely in a drunken stupor, made a passing comment to a cricketing board member (also likely rather drunk) with regards to the apparent similarity between cricket and baseball (Both sports require an individual to strike a ball with a bat, and then run), and things snowballed from there. The fact that a national team got formed and actually competed upon the multi-verse's biggest stage in baseball was and is testament to the persistence and stubbornness of the average Paradystopi once they've had a drink or seven.

From A bit after WBC61 to Present:

Following Paradystopia's achievement of not being a total embarrassment on the international stage, and with the cricketers turning their attention to actually playing cricket in GCF test series, a gap was left in the nation's baseball infrastructure that was relatively quickly filled by individuals seeking to specialise in baseball. Before long, a recreational team; the Gooston Ganders was formed though lacking any sort of domestic opponent, the majority of their training sessions were simply bar crawls or exhibition inter-squad matches. Seeking an opportunity to steal Gooston's self-awarded baseball crown away from them, the Rhottensods Rebels were formed in the capital of New Newetoun setting up the inaugural Paradystopi Ultimate Baseball Extravaganza (PUBE) which featured a seven-match series betwixt the two squads and culminated, customarily, in the mother-of-all-after-parties to the point that no-one present can actually remember what the score was. Since then, a further team; the Erroropolis Superstars have joined the fray to complete what is probably the Multiverse's smallest, and most irrelevant multi-nation baseball championship.

Where Baysball (sic) is played in Paradystopia

In short, on one small island a short boat ride from the capital of New Newetoun.

Before the decision was made to insert ourselves onto the multiversal baseball scene, all that existed there were patches of wild meadowland, roving wild geese and a small village named Gooston-by-the-Sea.

Now, knowing that we had an international community of baseball lovers to cater for, and with the baseball loving nation of South Newlandia only a short flight away, a team of South Newlandian architects and stadium designers were brought in to turn this rural wasteland into a prime sporting venue; an island dedicated to international sporting competition, something to put Gooston-by-the-Sea on the international map as a gem within the list of renown Esportivan stadia. The pinnacle of ultimate arenas; 'The Nub'.
Image

That's what we told them anyway.

They arrived with big ideas for a huge 50,000+ seater stadium, with state-of-the-art training facilities, impressively striking architecture, and all the necessary modern conveniences to make this one of the most exceptional arenas in existence. Truly, it would've been a sight to behold, a venue that players would dream of playing at, and fans would be willing to pay exorbitant sums of money just for five minutes sitting in the cheap seats and gazing upon the pristine grass far below.

It is probably apparent that this probably isn't the sort of thing we were actually looking for, and you'd be correct. Our first and foremost concern was 'Where are you putting the bar?', followed closely by 'How big is it?', and then, 'Shouldn't it be bigger than that?', or 'Can we fit another bar in?' By the time The Nub was constructed, it more closely resembled a massive food hall that specialises in the whole gamut of alcohol beverages with an adequate baseball field boasting acceptable facilities and 27,130 seats tagged on the side as somewhat of an afterthought.

Given the beyond-excessive number of included drinking establishments within The Nub, the relevant authorities struck up a sponsorship deal with Burgunden Breueries of Neu Engollen whom are now a major supplier to the facility, as well as sponsors for the baseball team themselves.

Another suggestion put forward by the South Newlandians was to rehome the island's population of wild geese whose aggressive nature proved quite an issue during construction and whose continued presence was very likely to be most counterproductive to actually playing baseball. This was a very sensible recommendation but given that the native residents of Gooston-by-the-Sea considered the presence of the geese to be of cultural significance to the island itself, the bureaucracy surrounding the removal and rehoming of native species was more than any lawyer cared to sift or negotiate their way through, and frankly, no-one could be bothered.

The Paradystopia Baysball (sic) Squad

Quick Note:
For those unaware, Pterons are a race of otterfolk who resemble oversized sea otters. Stood on their back paws, they are around 4 feet tall and, should you find yourself facing one at bat, could prove a challenge for your pitcher given the placement of their strike-zone being markedly different to that of the average human. The Xat'i are a race of sentient cats who are of similar size to the Pterons.

Olav Akselsson C RH (26, M, Human) Gooston Ganders

Of our batters, they are 'much of a muchness' really. Mostly going for big hits over any sort of tactical nuance in their strikes. Herbert Aeoe is probably the one player with a bit more skill in the area of 'contact' with Kayla Kaysdottyr being a close second on that front. Clansey Bobb is a beastly slugger with a fifty percent chance of making a home run if he gets a decent contact. 'If' is very much the operative word there though.

Honksalot Spratsnatcher CP RH (11, M, Pteron) Gooston Ganders

The average level of the Paradystopi pitchers is a bit higher than that of the batters, aided somewhat by a penchant for spin. Calum Uilleamsson, Peter Norbertsson, and Goran Striyelačić are the only three possessing a quality fast ball, all the others will rely upon more 'tricksy' deliveries that will curl in, out, up, and down and are difficult to predict. This is amplified with the Pteron pitchers who can achieve ridiculous amounts of spin on a ball in exchange for a lack of velocity as well as being capable of some devilishly erratic knuckleballs.

Nheyu SS?(PR) (5, F, Xat'i) unattached

Nheyu is our secret weapon. She can't bat, can't really field, and definitely can't pitch. However, what she can do is base run. Being a Xat'i, her agility, reactions and speed are unmatched by any humanoid making her pretty much un-tag-able. Should we find ourselves with a player on base late in a game needing a run to win or maybe force an important game to extra innings, we'll switch her in and good luck trying to defend against her.

We say 'good luck'. In reality, she's undefendable and short of making some very efficient strike outs, she'll work her way/steal her way to home plate before you realise.

Everything is acceptable. Go crazy.

We will use a DH when we can, and Clansey Bobb will slot in anywhere that feels appropriate in the top four of the order.
For any non-DH games, we will make use of Calum Uilleamsson and/or Maxim Herring on the mound, as they are the closest thing we have to two-way players.
Don't expect any of our other pitchers to achieve anything beyond a lucky single at the plate.

Punishment will be swift and severe for anyone who harms our native wildfowl.

Ko-orenite National Baseball Team
野球コ・オレン代表 - Jakyuu Ko-oren Daijhou - Selesson Co-orenensa de Beisbol

Batting order/打順/Orden de Bateadores
CF Arinobu Shiina (30, M) // Rhoni Rhonin CMT // R
LF Losume Zhilozhen (19, F) // Echizen Dragons // R
2B Len Pijpenbroek (36, M) // Elephant Valley Homers, SNL // R
3B Eikichi Matsuoka (27, M) // Nitoya Silvers // R
(DH)
SS Letha Newich (26, F) // Desierto Challengers // L
RF Shichirō Aiso (25, M) // Aviansola Admirals // L
C Joseph Mortier (24, M) // Amandine Wanderers // R
1B Pafa Jidazen (22, M) // Aviansola Admirals // L
(P)

Pijpenbroek has been moved even further back into the lineup but at 36, he's still headlining this team. It's just that Shiina (quite a bit faster) and Zhilozhen (contact) are better options, and then our slow infield takes over the middle of the order: Matsuoka, probably the best all-round hitter of the group, sits in the middle, with Newich (no longer a defence-only shortstop) also taking centre stage, and Aiso being there as the cleanup man. If anything, the entire group lacks firepower (outside of Aiso and, on his best days, Pijpenbroek) but if you weren't expecting Ko-oren to play small ball, honestly, you must be new to Ko-orenite sports. So yeah, there's going to be bunts, sacrifice, and otherwise, the group will be trying to hit the ball juuust over the infield or in between the gaps in defence. That said, it's not a defence-first team either: Newich is the best allround player and a defensive monster, and Jidazen is purely selected for defence at first base as well, but the rest of the team are good hitters, don't let yourself get fooled. Mortier, like last Classic, finds himself further down the list as we're still hoping his hitting develops as quickly as his other skills at some point. The new find of this team is obviously Zhilozhen at 19, but confidence is high.

Infielders/内野手/Interiores:
1B Pafa Jidazen (22, M) // Aviansola Admirals // L
1B Katsuyoshi Kenguzhen (24, M) // Furune Bees // L
2B Len Pijpenbroek (36, M) // Elephant Valley Homers, SNL // R
2B Sanji Tunazen (24, M) // Nitoya Silvers // R
3B Eikichi Matsuoka (27, M) // Nitoya Silvers // R
3B Poafi Losan (19, F) // Ferrovente Whales // L
SS Letha Newich (26, F) // Desierto Challengers // L
SS Njarin Tsahesen (24, F) // Katashi Generals // R

The starter per position is pretty much locked in. Kenguzhen remains a decent option in case Jidazen gets the jitters, Tunazen might take over only when Pijpenbroek's age shows, and Losan and Tsahesen are essentially ensured of no playing time.

Outfielders/外野手/Exteriores:
RF Shichirō Aiso (25, M) // Aviansola Admirals // L
RF Robbrecht Visser (23, M) // Teragaseki Originals // L
CF Arinobu Shiina (30, M) // Rhoni Rhonin CMT // R
CF Tage Giljusen (17, M) // Katashi Generals // R
CF Édouard Fralin (24, M) // Amandine Wanderers // R
LF Losume Zhilozhen (19, F) // Echizen Dragons // R
LF Zetsi Fejuzen (20, F) // Nitoya Silvers // R
DH Tadanari Amachi (28, M) // Aviansola Admirals // L

A weird group: Arguably Shiina, Giljusen, and Fralin are better than anything on the flanks, and there's a weird mix of players that could be designated hitters without being fielders that can cover half an acre and vice versa. Shiina embodies both: he can cover ground and crush a baseball. Zhilozhen is the hope that Ko-orenite outfielders still get to develop, and Aiso is the best we have on the right side. So depending on how a game goes, Giljusen could appear left or right. Amachi is the regular DH but Visser could do that as well.

Catchers/捕手/Receptores:
C Joseph Mortier (24, M) // Amandine Wanderers // R
C Husiina Tausezhun (22, F) // Desierto Challengers // R

Mortier is the obvious choice, with Bardemaker's surprise retirement.

Pitchers/投手/Lanzadores
Rotation
SP Bieito Vasquez (28, M) // Desierto Challengers // R
SP Atsuko Paljizen (21, F) // Katashi Giants // R
SP Yurika Ōhashi (27, F) // Arakura Knights // R
SP Baihu Sautheidin (21, M) // Santa Teresa Stars // L
SP Vuisou Ghaethen (19, M) // Amandine Wanderers // R

Man, what a group. Not where we thought we'd be had you asked us five years ago, we're in a much better spot than expected. Vasquez has been here all along - so has Ohashi - but Paljizen, Sautheidin, and Ghaethen really are a new generation springing up, and with a Classic under their belt, have the confidence, the youthful springiness to their joints and muscles, and the experience to make the future theirs. Vasquez has a great arsenal and good control, Ohashi has superior control. Paljizen shows potential of having both elite control and a large arsenal of pitches but still has games where she fails to show either. That's the biggest gamble on her (and Ghaethen): do they have the dependability throughout 5-6 innings, can they stay composed enough throughout bad games that matter? Paljizen's Giants haven't exactly played meaningful postseason baseball, but Ghaethen at least has that advantage.

Namioka is the obvious choice of these three in a pinch. Peinoinin played last Classic and honestly should be back, and unlike the other starters he's got experience in big games (the Challengers are good).

Just a big pile of relievers, ranked from most likely to play to least (with the closers at the bottom). Ishibashi, Andry, and Adachi can be brought on to bully specific hitters if we need a substitution right before some particularly hard hitters come up. Nusazen's a very long reliever capable of playing nearly entire games if we need a substitution after 2-3 innings, and Soishetin's looking like that kind of reliever as well. Fwuthen and Yonezawa (the former much, much better than the latter) are trickier: if we need chaos, they can create some.

Home Venues

Assuming each series has three games, our home games will be played at the following venues, listed from best to worst. For example: if we play four series, assume the top four of the list to be used. The highest ranked opponent at 1 (Katahshi), the next highest ranked at 2 (Gahrugkothis), etc.

1) Katahshi
Home to two out of twelve ProNine teams, Katahshi is the unofficial baseball capital of Ko-oren. The tropical city has the perfect climate for it, too, and there's a huge culture of going to see the games in person (summer: baseball; winter: soccer and rugby league). Pair that with its efficient tram network and every fan can get to the venues and back in record time. The league's biggest team is from here (the Katashi Generals), as well as the most snakebitten team in the league (Katashi Giants). The biggest baseball stadium of the nation is here (as well as #3).
Game 1, 2, and 3: Katashi Dome (43000), central Katahshi, home to the Katashi Generals. Big modern purple concrete, steel, glass, and plastic venue. They wanted to roof it, but didn't in the end.

2) Gahrugkothis
We called Katahshi the unofficial capital, and that's because of the existence of the city of Thelesra, who also consider themselves the baseball capital. That's because the team with the second biggest budget, fanbase, and the highest expectations is from there: the royal blue and yellow Santa Teresa Stars. The city on the very extreme end of the Ko-orenite mainland, the city's a bit self-contained (as well as the country's main naval base). A few dozen kilometres down the road is the more humble counterpart to the city and the team: Erpubehte, home to the Ferrovente Whales. Both cities are in a desert climate (Thelesra is on the coast to mitigate some of that, Erpubehte is inland and an absolute furnace).
Game 1, 3: The Citadel (33000), eastern Thelesra, home to the Santa Teresa Stars. Much like other venues in the city (as well as all of its architecture): it's well used, well loved, less well maintained, but definitely comfy. Everything, as expected, is yellow and blue. A canvas roof keeps the fans out of the sun (or, rarely, rain).
Game 2: Ventovente (22100), central Erpubehte, home to the Ferrovente Whales. Old stone/clay exterior, slightly dug into the ground to not dominate the town's skyline. The light blue seats are a bit of an eyesore versus the burgundy building. Locals love to receive visitors but also require them to follow Erpubehte's (baseball) traditions.

3) Alahrenna and Ethena
Two islands each have a single team in the ProNine, with the Echizen Dragons dominating the northern division... and the Teragaseki Originals (once Dynamos, changed name for LPB participation) just being in the northern division. The two islands are indistinguishable from one another by other Ko-orenites or foreigners - forested, warm/hot year round - but locals can always tell apart the optimistic, flowery (literally) island of Alahrenna from the gloomy, solemn island of Ethena. The teams certainly play like the stereotypes.
Game 1, 2: Uvesaki Field (20150), just outside Ethizehn, home to the Echizen Dragons, proud LPB winners and perennial thorn in the side of bigger teams. Fans are encouraged to join in the chants, the choreography, the music, etcetera.
Game 3: Vidari Stadium (17600), near Setergehse, home to the Teragaseki Originals, a not-very-successful team with the most loyal fans (outside the Whales, most likely). There's as many traditions here as in Ethizehn, but they're certainly less animated and loud.

4) Ehnigo
Sponsors require some games to be played in a huge city - with the luxury business boxes for their guests - even if otherwise not many fans show up. This is the case in Amahne, one of the country's largest cities, once owner of a baseball team (during the LPB era) but they've since lost their team to more loyal fanbases out east. The stadium built for that team is one of the country's larger, and now it's used for plenty of tier 2 games (say, double/triple-A), and some national team games. Further southeast in the bay province of Ehnigo is Ethuweri, who do have a ProNine team. Both places have a very low chance of getting rained out (compared to the other baseball places) but it's also going to be way colder.
Game 1, 2: Le Losange (20900), outer Amahne, home to... a couple of lower tier teams. For national team games: expect confused but hopeful mainlanders who saw low ticket prices to a nearby national team game and decided to try out this baseball thing.
Game 3: Vamada Océanique (12300), central Ethuweri, home to the Amandine Wanderers, next door to the football temple of Tanques AOE, home to the best weather in the country, a lot of pensioners, but still a surprisingly good grassroots fan culture (certainly for areas outside of Gahrugkothis or the eastern islands). Most of the seats are behind home plate, there's still a few rows of seats behind the outfield but mostly it's just a view of the city's gorgeous foreshore.

5) Sohlatal
Back to the eastern islands, in particular: the fourth of the four islands. Sohlatal is tropical, mostly empty, but home to a few important settlements, including the university city of Erpuhnur and the harbour town of Arakurathi. Both have a ProNine team, from the college-y Furune Bees (Erpuhnur) to the diehard fans of the Arakura Knights (Arakurathi). They couldn't be further apart in culture despite everything coming from the rainforested island.
Game 1, 3: Obsidian Hive (19800), northern Erpuhnur, home to the Furune Bees, leaning fully into the yellow-black theme, the popularity of its universities to prop up home attendance figures, but over the short while of the Bees being in town, the team's really grown on locals and students alike. New-ish venue.
Game 2: Ginofruit Field (21400), central Arakurathi, home to the Arakura Knights, a very proud (and tormented) fanbase seeing the second-smallest budget team in the ProNine get overshadowed by loud, annoying neighbours Bees. Still, it's the fifth largest stadium in the country - for baseball - and loyal fans keep filling up, well, about half of it each home game. For national team games, it's packed, it's loud, the food is incredible, and win or loss, everyone has a good time. The stadium has aged fairly well, but it's age is very visible nonetheless.

6) Rest of Leleia
Katahshi isn't an isolated city, it's on an island - the southernmost of the four eastern ones - called Leleia. And there's more people on that island than just the Katahshi city folk, as arrogant as the citizens are. The rest of Leleia is tropical, a lot more laid-back, a tad quieter, but has some wellrounded tight-knit communities. That goes for the eastern and western side of the island - connected only by a land bridge on which the city of Katahshi was built - alike.
Game 1, 2: Twin Field (14900), central Nuthatal, home to the ProNine Nitoya Silvers. A team of dragonslayers, and the same goes for their football counterparts (Nitoya Ninabasa), afraid of nothing, and that attracts some really fun and iconic individual players. The vibe's always professional, and that's the standard fans expect from their team as well.
Game 3: Naminaka Park (14500), central Amahsohloa, home to the ProNine Aviansola Admirals. A team that was sent to Amahne during the LPB but has since returned to eastern Leleia, and that was the right choice. The stadium's almost always full with fans from all over that half of the island making it to town for a game or two at a time, as well as locals who are still angry at those in charge of the sport in Ko-oren for taking their team from them. Fans are close to the field, the wooden stadium has a lot of character.

7) Rest of Ko-oren
Baseball is decently well known in the rest of the country, and the national team plays there every now and again to maintain interest.
Game 1: Arène des Muses (9000), Ahmilo. Also in Ehnigo, between Amahne and Ethuweri, Ahmilo's a city that's top 10 in population yet constantly overlooked for everything and locals are tired of it. At the same time, they don't show up to the local teams, they're never beating the allegations. They rather support Amahne teams anyway. Either way, they have a stadium.
Game 2: Honrothru-din (9000), Senoren. The only decently sized baseball field in the capitals, the sport and the national team have to come past here at some point either way.
Game 3: Dadhunun-engiu (8000), Majara. The other decently sized baseball field in the capitals.

8) Rest of Gahrugkothis
Baseball's a massive cultural thing outside of the two major cities of sandy, hot Gahrugkothis, but it's scattered between dozens of smaller towns. All of them have a decent following, only a few have half-decent teams, and even fewer have venues that you'd let foreign visitors see.
Game 1, 3: Colenario Municipal (14600), Kolunedin, home to ProNine Desierto Challengers, yes, a ProNine team all the way down here. Pride of the entire region, their season is complete if they get one over the Stars and Whales (and often they get quite a bit more, actually). Half the stands are new, the rest are in a not fantastic state. They're still refurnishing.
Game 2: Emeantaro (8800), Parahredo, a small town who've poured a good part of their municipal budget into this stadium, making it the envy of the region outside of the Colenario. They're certainly very proud of it! Even if it 'only' seats this few.

Chromatika National Baseball Team - The Outliers - WBC 52 Champions
World Baseball Classic 63 Team

Management Staff
Manager: Alisen Mayamoto (43)
The most prolific baseball player in Chromatik history, Mayamoto was who brought baseball to the forefront of Chromatika, and a mainstay on the team for many a season. After baseball was scrapped in Chromatika due to lack of funding and some unfortunate circumstances regarding the practices of many Chromatik clubs, she worked tirelessly to bring the sport back to the international stage, and has finally succeeded. Her playing days are over, but her mindset and game knowledge remains as sharp as ever, and there is nobody better suited to lead Chromatika gooing forward.

Assistant Manager: Sierra Eden-Geraldine (63)
Sierra Eden-Geraldine, once the Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Chromatik Sporting Council and the Vice Chairwoman of the Chromatik Association of Llamaphant Pro Baseball, has spent the last seven years picking up the pieces of what befell Chromatik baseball. Working tirelessly to reinstate the sport both legally and in the minds of Chromatiks, she's finally succeeded in earning that second chance. It's time to see what they do about it.

Starting Lineup
1B Jackson MYDOL (R/R/26) Lanar Locks (Chromatika)
Has command of the game and has a solid base for all skills. Perhaps takes too many risks at his position, but the majority of them turn out well for the team. Fielding: 7 Batting: 6 Running: 6 Aggressiveness: 8
2B Alena EGOROVA (R/R/33) Z'ai'ai Originals (Chromatika)
Once on the bench for the Outliers, Egorova has overcome her jack of all trades, master of none status to be a serviceable player at this level. Not the flashiest, but doesn't have any big holes in her game. Has an even head and knows when to take risks smartly. Fielding: 8 Batting: 8 Running: 7 Aggressiveness: 6
3B Miles STURDEVANTT (R/R/26) Z'ai'ai Originals (Chromatika)
The recent player to come out of Chromatika. He can hit the ball all over the park, has a decent arm, and loves big moments in matches. He'll be batting fourth in this lineup, and be counted on to generate most of the runs. Fielding: 7 Batting: 10 Running: 8 Aggressiveness: 8
SS PARK Hye-Bin (R/R/29) Urrheddiao Chance (Chromatika)
Akin to Alisen Mayamoto, Park Hye-Bin is a fielding-first shortstop with a decent enough bat to complement. She loves playing mind games with runners, prides herself in learning the tendencies of the other fielders around her to make sure that they are on the same page, and is a model teammate while being someone that can lighten the mood. Fielding: 10 Batting: 7 Running: 9 Aggressiveness: 6
LF Rowan STATT (L/L/24) Sanar Siren (Chromatika)
Picks when he wants to commit, but commits wholeheartedly when it's time to make that move. Confuses pitchers with how he can lock in on some situations unexpectedly. Turned the Siren into a dark horse contender just by signing last season. Fielding: 7 Batting: 7 Running: 5 Aggressiveness: 6
CF Wilson DODDARD (R/R/23) Chromia Marks (Chromatika)
One of the young player on this roster with a lot of potential. His feet are what set him apart, while his clutch factor is off the charts; the rest of everything is still forming. Fielding: 7 Batting: 6 Running: 9 Aggressiveness: 5
RF Carmen BATISTA (R/R/24) Z'ai'ai Originals (Chromatika)
Sporty, fashionable, and very opinionated, Batista's ability to hit the ball anywhere is why he's on this team. Still working on the clutch throw to home base, but fields other balls well enough. Fielding: 6 Batting: 10 Running: 7 Aggressiveness: 8
C Béa ARCIERGE (L/L/29) Lanar Locks (Chromatika)
A catcher who prides herself in throwing more than batting, Béa is always in total command of what the pitcher is doing on the mound. Has worked on her batting, but could still use some work. The way in which she commands respect with the pitching staff helps a lot, though. Fielding: 10 Batting: 6 Running: 6 Aggressiveness: 6

Batting Order: 1. Egorova 2. Statt 3. Mydol 4. Sturdevantt 5. Batista 6. Park 7. Arcierge 8. Doddard 9. Pitcher

Bench/Reserves
1B Sarah PEDERSEN (L/L/21) University of the Islands (Chromatika)
A bit of a child prodigy, Pedersen's ascent up the prospect ranks over the last twelve months has been legendary. She has a rocket arm, a decent bat, and is a track champion in high school. Many think she'll go pro instead of finishing her collegiate career. Mydol has competition - and everyone knows it, including Mydol himself. Fielding: 10 Batting: 7 Running: 10 Aggressiveness: 6
2B Jacqueline "Jackie" PARISAN (R/R/22) University of Myana (Chromatika)
Loves to wait for the right ball and then hit it as hard as she can. Not the best method to have a long career, but she's working on that. Fielding: 6 Batting: 10 Running: 7 Aggressiveness: 8
3B Isaac BRAUN (R/R/23) Bouveil Community College (Chromatika)
One of the biggest bats that won the NationStates College Baseball Championships, Braun's ability to hit the ball out of the park is unheralded. Improving steadily defensively too. Fielding: 7 Batting: 8 Running: 6 Aggressiveness: 8
SS Mark EVERARD (R/R/25) Chromia Marks (Chromatika)
A more aggressive player than Park, with a bigger bat to boot. Not as good throwing the ball. Still getting better, and had a career low in errors last season, a testament to his potential. Fielding: 7 Batting: 9 Running: 7 Aggressiveness: 8
LF Moises DUMOND (R/R/26) Sanar Siren (Chromatika)
The tallest player on the squad at 6' 10", Dumond's specialty is robbing home runs by climbing the fence, having massive jumping reach. Either strikes out or hits home runs during at-bats, but is good enough defensively to earn some playing time. Fielding: 9 Batting: 6 Running: 5 Aggressiveness: 8
CF Ivan DOMINIQUE (S/R/24) Chromia Marks (Chromatika)
A switch-hitting player who likes to extend at-bats by being extremely annoying, making contact with anything and fouling it off to try to outlast the pitcher. Fielding: 6 Batting: 7 Running: 4 Aggressiveness: 10
RF Miley USDEDSEN (R/R/29) Lanar Locks (Chromatika)
A late bloomer who really started playing well in the last two seasons, Usdensen is the type to make adjustments between at-bats to try to decipher the pitcher. An extremely cerebral player through and through who makes up for his athletic ability. Fielding: 7 Batting: 6 Running: 8 Aggressiveness: 6
C Stuart MARKS (R/L/25) Urrheddiao Chance (Chromatika)
A much better batter of a catcher who sometimes comes in when the team just needs someone who can hit better consistently. Works well with Béa to prepare for matches. Fielding: 6 Batting: 9 Running: 7 Aggressiveness: 8

Pitching Staff
1. LHP Eddard FRIEND (35) Z'ai'ai Originals (Chromatika)
Fastball pitcher with a decent off-speed pitch, Friend is an even-keeled pitcher with the ability to go deep into games. The mental game is what he excels at. Age has resulted in having to use more of his curveball, but he can still throw the fastball over the middle when he has to.
2. RHP Ashleigh WITTERS (35) Chromia Marks (Chromatika)
A contact pitcher whose calling card is getting batters to hit into easy balls for her fielders, Witters has never had the fastest ball but annoys her opposition into submission. Starting to falter a bit due to the lack of velocity, but the sidearm has been locked in lately.
3. RHP Marceaux JUSTINIAN (29) Urrheddiao Chance (Chromatika)
Complicated game plans. Analysis of the opposing batters. Being on the same page as the catcher. These are all things that Marceaux specializes in, and it's the only way he knows how to pitch. If he gets sidetracked, it's over for him - the staff is working on that.
4. LHP Carmen BYNUM-JACKSON (27) Sanar Sirens (Chromatika)
Still young, Carmen usually tries to throw past batters, but has learned that won't always work. She's working on mastering those kinds of situations, and how far Chromatika goes will depend on her growth.
5. RHP Syrenita "Syr" GAILLEN (26) Umbar Utopia (Chromatika)
Opinionated, aggressive, and streaky, Gaillen's spot on this roster has been solidified. Loves facing challenging situations as long as she doesn't lose her mental.

Bullpen
RHP Madison BREEN (21) Bouveil Community College (Chromatika) - Long-Term Reliever
Her ability to provide more than three innings in relief at a moment's notice set her apart at the university level so much that she's become noticed by the National Team. Is she able to make the most of the opportunity?
LHP Doris MILDRED (27) Chromia Marks (Chromatika) - Long-Term Reliever
A change-up specialist who loves to play mind games with the opposition, Mildred is okay with losing those same games sometimes if it means winning most of them.
RHP Harima KATAWA (36) Z'ai'ai Originals (Chromatika) - Long-Term Reliever
Having command of four different pitches, Katawa is a jack of all trades that can step into any situation and get the job done for whatever is needed at the time. Veteran
RHP Marie VOXX (29) Sanar Siren (Chromatika) - Reliever
Specializing in high-intensity situations, Voxx is aware that more often than she would like, she will be the villain. When she succeeds, though, it will be something to remember.
LHP Cade OSTETT (29) Lanar Locks (Chromatika) - Reliever
An off-speed pitch specialist who prefers to confuse the opposition. Most of the hits he gives up are home runs, though.
LHP Vera MANE (32) Chromia Marks (Chromatika) - Reliever
A fastballer who throws her weight into every single pitch. Not as fast as Cheng, but provides the left-handed support.
LHP Ava KYLER (27) Urrheddiao Chance (Chromatika) - Left-Handed Specialist
Someone needs to be in this position, and it might as well be Kyler. Throws three different kinds of pitches, doesn't mind taking risks.
LHP Evan HILL (32) Lanar Locks (Chromatika) - Setup Man
Very good at getting that one inning needed to set up the save, Hill's ability to get into the batter's heads is something else.
RHP Katerina PAVLOVA (33) Lanar Locks (Chromatika) - Closer
Gaining more and more experience, Pavlova is utterly fearless and loves big matches. Has a trademark celebration where she points three fingers into the sky after a successful save.

Playstyle: Pitch well. Field even better. Bat when you can. Hopefully, that's enough.

BALLPARKS
Rounders Field, Portside, JB TJUN-ia (40,000)
Image

Named after an English (U1) game similar to Baseball, Rounders Field is considered by many to be the home of TJUN-ian baseball. It has a retractable roof if the threat of rain is present, while also containing modern amenities. Don't worry about the "artwork" near centre field - that is a tribute to the varied wildlife of both Portside and TJUN-ia. The away changing rooms will still be looked at by a jaguar with the following message:
YOU ARE ENTERING THE JUNGLE
FAIR PLAY SHALL BE OBSERVED HERE AT ALL TIMES
IF NOT, THE CROWD SHALL EAT YOU ALIVE

The crowd here are known for not taking foul play lightly, and this message gives a warning of that to any opposition. TJUN-ia wants to play fairly and the message hopes that the opponent plays fairly too.

The Diamond in The Gardens, New Washington, NAU Zone (42,000)

The Diamond in The Gardens is located in "The Gardens" - a major sporting complex in the NAU Zone capital of New Washington. Just down the road from Gridiron Football's Field of Dreams, it has the traditional ivy as part of the entire back wall - a sign that you are in The Gardens. Built based on classic ballparks in U1 and U2, modern amenities are present within this old-style park. It has 2 modern scoreboards and 1 manual one, which will be used to display the scores across the tournament. Unlike their counterparts in Portside, fans here don't really care about "fairness" and "sporting equality" - they just want to watch some baseball. These confines are certainly friendly and the fans are known for enjoying the game no matter if the home team is winning or not.

On your marks...

It is a warm springtime day in the South Pacific. The fresh ocean breeze flows near the beaches of Alto Mare Scootalove City Unicorn training center. Mid practice, Skibidi Rizz and Pixie Knight pop out of a portal to see the rest of the team practiceing. "There you are! Where have you two been?" Contrail Nova slightly annoyed asks.

Before Nova can contnue the chew out, Pixie Knight buzzes her fairy wings and announces "Guys the group assignments got posted!" The rest of the team takes a break from training. Some like Bonnie Scotland and Jannette where working on stunts for post home game victory idol concerts. Bonnie, shoots her self out of Clyde and lands near Nova, Pixie and Skibidi. Bonnie exclaims "Oohh who are we playing? Who are we playing!?" Jannette gently flys down with her jet pack, smileing at her younger sisters enthusiasm.

Skibidi, near bursting exclaims, matching Bonnie's energy "Valentine Z and Serdtgyu BUT!! Thats not the imporant part!!!" The team comes in close, now fully invested in this. Skibidi then continues with the announcement "The imporant part is that Valentine Z is team 6 in our group and Serdtgyu is team 7. So our first two matches of the WBC are... six seven!"

Skibidi and Pixie both start doing the 67 motion. Bonnie bursts out laughing and joins them. Jannette loveingly rolls her eyes and smiles. Contrail gets a comical sweat drop and face palms "Of course you three focused on that part. What am I going to do with you goobers?"

Contrail smiles internaly. This team is her second family and she secretly loves there antics. Jannette smiles at Contrail and then noogies her little sister Bonnie in a bear hug. This first season is going to be wild.

Situated in the hot, humid coastal city of Redbranch, expect temperatures up to 32℃ (90℉) with humidity reaching up to 80%. The stadium sits right along the coast, with the sea surrounding the park’s outfield seats. A notoriously difficult park for hitters, the deep walls in centre field stretch as far as 415 feet. The Saloon is connected directly to the EASS (East Archalit Subway System) and is easily accessible by bus, with the CA train station just a 10 minute walk from the venue. The venue has limited parking, with nearly all traffic coming locally.

Additional Information
Team Name: The Pirates
Home Uniform: brown hat, brown/white jerseys, white pants
Away Uniform: brown hat, brown/blue jerseys, brown/blue pants
League Information: The ABL (Archalit Baseball League) is a niche domestic sport that garners an audience of around 350 thousand across Archalit. Athletes are paid a standard salary for participation by Archalit Sports and ticket prices are often free. Despite this, stadiums are often empty, with most games regularly failing to fill the stadiums. With the exception of the rare star player, the heights of professional baseball in Archalit tend to be comparable to amateur leagues in other nations.
City Information: The city of Redbranch, once a classic saloon town and situated along the coast of the former Xanadi nation, has grown into one of the biggest urban centers in Archalit. Known for its many uniquely old-fashioned buildings and zones, there is much sightseeing that can be done along Redbranch. What's more, Redbranch has a deep fishing culture and there is plenty to do (and eat) along the city’s coastline. Foreign players can expect to find hotel and housing accomodations in most areas of the city, although driving and parking capacity is generally limited.

A long, long, time ago, I can still remember, how that baseball used to make them smile. Not me, though. For one, the Spiders sucked, and for another, baseball is kind of boring. However! There was once a college baseball team, that played in Anaia and somehow did quite well for themselves, even when the chilly Martian Anaia February made the fans shiver. But on this paper I'm delivering to whichever elephant is in charge of ye olde registration, if it even is an elephant as rumored, you'll find that many of those Ferrymen have made the jump to the national team, including some still in college. Depth, folks. We don't have it. That's bad news on your doorstep. Next tournament, they'll have to take one more step and add some more.

starting pitchers
RHP Josh Smylie (#1, 28)
RHP Pekka Saarinen (#4, 21)
RHP Jackson Meller (#2, 31)
LHP Marcia Richards (#3, 25)
RHP Angela Giordano (#9, 21)
not all of the three men (well, two and a woman) that were admired most for their pitching skills at MUA have reached the heights of a national team roster - Imredy is not yet ready. smylie is the only one of these who can actually throw a fastball that's fast. when not playing baseball, he is the editor of the Martian Journal of Medicine. Saarinen is good in game twos, weirdly. remains to be seen about game ones. meller is definitely better than the rest by quite a margin when it comes to realizing that a runner wants to steal a base. Richards is a badly needed leftie, and also tends to vote leftie. her base is the only one in Mars that grows kiwi fruit. Giordano is just kinda there, but her youth gives her stamina. it's hard to convince her of things, and she's a know-it-all, but a lot of the time she does in fact know it all.

bullpen
RHP Joanne Swift (#44, 26)
LHP Haileigh Lewis (#10, 22)
RHP Hachiro Tanaka (#8, 23)
LHP Noah Li (closer) (#88, 23)
"shouldn't a bullpen be more than four players" shut up. shut up. shut up. does your country have more than one baseball field? yes? overpriviledged fucks. Li is an accountant, there is nothing interesting about him. tanaka's working on the famed Road which may actually show up in Martian Anaia one of these days. Lewis is one of those weird polyglots and might be moving to aleirave soon? unclear? check her socials for more, I suppose. oh wait no you can't because chasm is incredibly unreliable outside the mir. Swift is great sometimes, but mostly she's about as useful as a levee if the levee was dry.

starting lineup (throws/bats)
2B Corey Metzenbaum (R/R) (#7, 20)
3B Denise Yankton (R/S) (#13, 29)
LF Seth Rigby (R/R) (#17, 26)
1B Imogen Montague (L/L) (#19, 19)
C David Dyer (L/S) (#29, 23)
SS Sullivan Blake (R/R) (#41, 30)
CF Holly Steele (R/L) (#49, 28)
RF Beau Bourgeois (R/R) (#59, 26)
[pitcher]
two college students. one of them is definitely going into foreign affairs and will end up in koroa city at some point, maybe possibly as the ambassador to south newlandia but it's still all up in the air and besides that would be like fifteen years from now. the other isn't. for a fun fact, she ran/runs tautology club at MUA, which meets on the day tautology club meets in the building tautology club meets in in the room tautology club meets in at the time tautology club meets. if she had a nickel for every time she had to apply a tourniquet in a pinch due to a sledding accident, she would have two nickels, which is not a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. yankton is from Lowell base, voted "least relevant base" seven years running despite a spirited challenge from Pengfei. rigby is from borealis, yes, but he isn't super closely related to multiversal chess champion Eleanor. Fifth cousins I think. Maybe fourth or sixth. Something along those lines. Steele works in the mining industry, in an example of Nominative Determinism 101, when she isn't baseballin'. blake's favorite board game is Quacks of Quedlinburg, even though all of his board gaming friends prefer Hit the Silk - he's just been poisoned there one too many times. bourgeois has a strange accent that nobody can quite place, because it isn't local to anywhere on Mars. he speaks French fluently, which is a bit of an oddity because it isn't particularly common, and he writes instructional books and videos for children.

coaching staff
HC: Stephen Fleming (62)
Hitting Coach: Grumpy Trout (43)
Pitching Coach: Happy Bass (44)
something or other "are they really called 'grumpy' and 'happy'?" - we think those are nicknames. we can't find their actual names on record. they probably aren't Martian, then, but they don't seem Warkusian or Vunymon or whatever is nearby. Stephen fleming's favorite genre of books is mystery, but he likes to read a lot of different fiction.

home ground
Maxwell Field B, Anaia Base (300)
There's not really room for baseball on Mars, with most sporting spaces in bases used for football, so the baseball fans of the MIR dragged a few sets of bleachers out to a field in newly settled Anaian territory. Even so, these bleachers will never be full. Except maybe they will? They were near the end of the college baseball season, so maybe they will refill for the national team playing their many games.

rp permissions
Yes to everything, except no DH at home. We won't use a DH away either. You can if you want. Shenanigans appreciated.

Get set....

Alto Mare Scootalove City Unicorns Training camp. It is the last training session of the day. The RBI is practicing with Jannette and Bonnie Scotland. They pitch, she hits. While both of the circus stunt sisters are having fun while training extra hard, throwing there best pitches, The RBI is purely focused on bating. There is one thing on her mind. Being the best batter of the WBC that has ever existed. She studied Stuart Nova's game winning grand slam over and over again. She takes this goal very seriously. She will, she must be the best.

Out of a total of 40 pitches between the two pitchers, she's been able to hit 34 of them. This is after they both have been going full throttle for this session. With other batters training this day the average hit per pitch has been 11 out of 20 for each pitcher and each batter on today's total training session.

Eventually the session winds down and Jannet plans on just chilling out for the evening. Bonnie has plans to do more stunts with her best friend, Scootaloo. The two met some time on the beach when Rainbow Dash took her out for surfing lessons and have bonded over being adrenaline junkies. Bonnie pulls out her phone home screen on her phone is the three of them at Stellar Canidae Base's Comet Tail. Her in the tube and Scootaloo and Jannet posing beside her. The two excitedly chat, The RBI smiles and then bids them farewell.

The RBI nearly leaves with them but says she has to go back and 'train even harder.' The two ask if she really wants to do that, she's been working out for most of the day. She insists that she's ok and goes back to train even more with automatic pitchers.

"34 out of 40 isnt bad... but it needs to be 40/40. I will make my teammates proud and become the star of the WBC by sheer consistently. I will make them all smile as we win the whole tournament." She works hard but after another hour or so eventually goes back to her hotel room for a goodnight's sleep. She texts Bonnie and Jannet goodnight. Tomorrow is game day one at Valentine Z's Genesis Stadium. Our first game the Unicorns have played in years. They are ready to return to the world's baseball stage.

South Newlandian Roster for World Baseball Classic 63

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Use DH at home: Yes
Choose my runscorers: Please
Choose my lineup: as long as your changes are reasonable
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes
Godmod injuries to my players: TG or Discord in advance, please.
Eject my players: TG or Discord in advance, please; South Newlandians don’t get ejected a lot.
Godmod other events: TG or Discord in advance, please, but most likely yes
Happy to answer any questions!

Manager/Head Coach: Franklin Bell (DRK) (69)
After 10 World Baseball Classics, including 6 final appearances and three championships, Sofia Rasmussen, the Elephants’ long-time manager, had retired as one of the most successful baseball managers ever, and certainly as an Elephants legend. The man chosen to replace her was, for some reason, Franklin Bell.

Franklin Bell famously pitched for Drawkland for ages, including perhaps the most famous sporting moment of all time, when Drawkland infamously allowed a comeback leading 10-3 in the bottom of the ninth in a WBC Ro16 G5 to Scootalove City. His incredible longevity means he was a player at the same time as both Sofia Rasmussen and many of the players he’s now going to be coaching. After retiring from pitching, he became a coach, first with the LPB’s Peninsulara Kingfishers, which he inexplicably turned into a good team, and later as a Bullpen Coach with the Drawkian national team, who also inexplicably turned good. In his first real tournament managing the Elephants, he took them to the WBC Championship Series, where they blew a late lead in game 7 (somehow not the first time that decade), to finish as runners-up. After an underwhelming tournament at the Esportivan Sporting Festival, where the Pachyderms once again failed to medal, he will start the climb at the base of the mountain again in attempting to lead South Newlandia to a fourth championship -- and first for a Drawkian.

Home ground and Uniform

Elephant Stadium, Elephant Valley (30,000)
The biggest South Newlandian baseball stadium is located in the relative South of the capital city Elephant Valley. The stadium hosts 30,000 people in this configuration. All fifteen home games of WBC48 were played here, and the unranked South Newlandia won twelve of them, including all of the first ten -- cementing this stadium as the forever home of this national team. Its dimensions are fairly typical, with a short wall in the outfield facilitating home run robberies. The wall is curved perfectly symmetrically, and it’s a little smaller than average given it is located pretty much exactly at sea level, which means balls don’t carry too far.

South Newlandia usually play in yellow jersey with a green diagonal stripe across, as well as green batting helmets and green basecaps with an elephant on them. They have blue alternates if these colours clash.

Notes on strategy:
The Elephants have always been careful to not overtax their players, and will be making sure to give everyone adequate rest in the Group Stage, which the format should allow sufficient opportunity to do. In particular, Löfgren will likely only catch about 15 games or so in the Group Stage, allowing her to be rested up for the playoffs.
In general, the Elephants think of themselves as a forward-thinking, sabermetric organization, who will make whatever decision gives them the best chances of winning. That means they’ll likely use relievers earlier than most teams, especially in close games, knowing that there’s a good bullpen behind, rather than facing all too much of the third-time-through-the-order penalty. When the DH is not in play, they’ll frequently pinch-hit for the pitcher earlier than most teams would (South Newlandian pitchers never bat outside the WBC -- expect a lot of bunts, strikeouts, and bunt strikeouts), and will often be utilising the platoon advantage. South Newlandians will also basically never intentionally throw at players, knowing this surrenders a free base -- but they will be sticking up for each other if the other team attempts shenanigans. Lastly, the Elephants do not care about the save statistic, and will often use their best relievers in important spots that are not save situations.

When batting, the Elephants emphasise not giving away free outs on the basepaths, with either poorly thought-out steal attempts or overly aggressive baserunning -- if you see an Elephant making an optimistic turn, it is probably with two outs and towards home plate. They’re also more patient at the plate than most. They’re more likely to pinch-hit and pinch-run late in close games. When it comes to lineup cards, they’ll also make sure all their players receive some adequate rest, with backup catcher Luke Scholz likely to get 8 or 9 starts and especially the up-the-middle defenders getting rested at least two or three times during the campaign. That’ll likely come in conjunction with favourable matchups.

Starting pitchers [* denotes best (not necessarily most likely) pitch]

(SP1) Dylan Borges (32, L)
(Arsenal: 4-seamer, Splitter*, Changeup, Slider, Sweeper)
With both of the top two starters from last cycle retiring, Dylan Borges is the ace of the team now. He became a star with the Newport Politics Institute, and the southpaw was drafted 10th overall by the Elephant Valley Snow Bears, who won the pennant in Borges’ rookie season. Since then, the lefty has missed some extensive time in recent seasons with injuries (thumb, shoulder), but appears to be perfectly healthy and in form at this point. He’s never blown opponents away with velocity, but he’s pin-point accurate and has a very dangerous pitch mix to boot. The last Classic was his breakthrough tournament, cementing himself as the new #1 for South Newlandia.

(SP2) Charles Morgan (33, R)
(Arsenal: 4-seamer*, Sweeper, Curveball, Changeup)
Charles Morgan was drafted fourth overall after some dominant years with the Red Elephants in college, and quickly started to deliver for the team. His main weapon is his triple-digit fastball, which was the pitch that initially put him on the map. His secondary pitches have also come along nicely. He’s developed a good changeup to pair with his sweeping slider. These additional tools have given him options against left-handers. Now in the prime of his career, the fireballer is ready to pitch his best.

(SP3) Shivay Sahu (29, L)
(Arsenal: 4-seamer*, Changeup, Curveball, Slider)
Despite never actually overlapping with Hailey Clark domestically, Sahu’s game is quite similar to the former Elephants’ staff ace. After three seasons with New Colk Tech (Sahu also holds a Grearish passport) and two with Peninsulara, Sahu has impressed enough to get a chance to earn his way to the Elephants. Picked 4th overall, his velo and composure always stood out. Sahu still hasn’t quite reached lofty expectations placed upon him, and his fielding has always been a weakness, but the Elephants believe he can put it together, and the last cycle was his best one yet as he enters the prime of his career.

(SP4) Linda Miller (26, L)
(Arsenal: 4-seamer*, Changeup, Slider, Splitter)
Linda Miller was one of the most hyped South Newlandian pitching prospects of all time. Without a real weakness and four excellent pitches, everyone thought she would swiftly rise through the ranks in South Newlandian Baseball. That mostly came true, with her making her first appearances in the rotation for the Elephants last cycle, and her trajectory continues to point upwards. In addition to her fastball that has excellent rise, she also had a great slider and generally great movement on her off-speed stuff. If she has any weakness, it is her accuracy, and even there, she’s certainly at least average. It feels likely that she will become the staff ace before too long.

(SP5) Hugo Alonso-Palmer (23, R)
(Arsenal: 4-seamer, Changeup, Slider*, Curveball)
Palmer grew up in Ratzupalfu and played college ball there as well, being one of the relative standouts on what ended up a fairly disappointing Egrets team in the first season of NSCBC. Alonso-Palmer’s standout pitch is his slider, and he otherwise doesn’t exactly have blow-away stuff, but he’ll be a hard-working, crafty pitcher who will log more innings than you might expect. He is very much the fifth guy in the rotation as this stage, though, and will likely drop to the bullpen in the playoffs.

Relief Pitchers

The Elephants will not have a typical closer setup, but instead operate on leverage. In approximate order, from high- to low leverage. Relievers will never appear in three consecutive games.

John Trunkman (35, R)
(Arsenal: 4-seamer*, Slider, Curveball, Changeup)
After being drafted eleventh overall, Trunkman quickly established himself as one of the best South Newlandian relievers in the game. The young star throws a triple-digit fastball that hitters will struggle to adjust to thanks to an excellent spin rate. Adding a lethal combination of off-speed pitches seems downright unfair, although Trunkman does tend to issue walks at an above average rate. Nevertheless, he will be the main High-leverage option for the Ellies, having steadily gained experience to take on this role. Even though age has started to take a bit of a toll on him, he remains highly effective, for now. Also, his name is Trunkman. You can’t go wrong.

Roger Weiß (34, L)
(Arsenal: Cutter*, Changeup, Curveball)
Weiß fits nicely into a pattern of South Newlandian relief arms that get the job done without elite velo. Weiß isn’t the most accurate, either, but he’s shown that his pitch mix absolutely devastates right-handed batters, but he tends to struggle against left-handed bats. His cutter is his best pitch, but he’s also been getting excellent results on the change that has clearly taken inspiration from his former domestic teammate, Trunkman.

Gaia Colombo (29, L)
(Arsenal: 4-seamer, Slider*, Changeup, Splitter)
Colombo’s greatness was quickly apparent. The reliever dominated with the Egrets in college before moving to the pros. She’s clearly a very talented lefty and likely future Elephants closer, and is rapidly gaining experience. She and Weiß are pretty much dead even for Bell’s choice as go-to lefty reliever, so it’ll really just depend on the matchup.

Maria Thompson (29, R)
(Arsenal: 4-seamer, Changeup, Sweeper*)
Thompson always been a bit of a wild pitcher, lacking the accuracy of some others on the roster, but she’s been great in big moments. Her pitch mix has made her a very dangerous weapon; her Sweeper especially eats right-handed batting.

Avi Aguilar (28, R)
(Arsenal: 4-seamer, Curveball*, Changeup, Sinker)
Aguilar has made a name for himself as pin-point accurate, even though his pitches don’t jump off the page at first glance. He’s been one of the more consistent relievers for the Elephants for some time now, even though he doesn’t usually see too many high-leverage innings; but he could be a player that steps up in this tournament.

Luna-Desiree Servopoulos (23, L)
(Arsenal: Sinker*, Changeup, Curveball)
Servopoulos, a Ruditown native, played college baseball for the Red Elephants. There, she was mostly coming out of the bullpen despite definitely having starter upside, and was overshadowed by Florian Richter there. People that have been paying close attention will not be terribly surprised to see her here, though; her pitch mix works well, and the Elephants can really use a bullpen arm who can go multiple innings easily in the pinch.

Carolyn Baker (26, R)
(Arsenal: 2-seamer, Slider, Curveball*)
Baker is perhaps the most surprising inclusion on this roster. She played for the NCfIR Bees in college, where she was a star closer, but her career already seemed to have fizzled out. The Rüsselsheim native might be slightly out of practise, but the Elephants clearly believe in the upside.

Fielders (Starters)

(C) Sofia Löfgren (SLL/SNL) (34, R)
(Speed: 4/10 | Power: 8/10 | Contact: 6/10 | Fielding: 8/10)
Sofia Rasmussen Löfgren was born in Super-Llamaland, but due to her South Newlandian maternal grandmother, she was eligible to play for South Newlandia, which she has chosen to do. Drafted as an all-around great talent, she became famous when her Walk-off grand slam jump-started the Renaissance coming back in the Esportivan Series, long ago. South Newlandian catchers don’t typically bat higher than eighth, so Löfgren clearly is something special with the bat; and she also stands out as an excellent defender. At 34, she’s now slowly nearing retirement in what has already been a great career that includes a WBC championship. She’s now the longest-tenured Elephant too, and exemplifies the hard-nosed catcher every team benefits from having.

(1B/CoOF) Veer Murphy (32, R)
(Speed: 4/10 | Power: 6/10 | Contact: 7/10 | Fielding: 5/10)
Murphy is a good player that has learned a lot from teammates like Shawn Zimmerman and, more recently, Lewis Hunter, to improve his game. He’s been hitting well, but isn’t exactly a threat on the basepaths, and hasn’t quite found a natural position with the Elephants, either. They play him at first where he stuck largely because there’s a bit of a shortage of great first basemen right now, and he can fit there defensively.

(2B) Kevin Barros (32, R)
(Speed: 5/10 | Power: 8/10 | Contact: 7/10 | Fielding: 4/10)
Barros stands out as an elite power hitter for someone playing a difficult defensive position. He came up playing short, but moved to second base eventually. It’s not a perfect fit for him defensively, but he’s forming a hard-hitting duo up the middle. The offensive production, despite some age-related decline starting to creep in, certainly makes up for some defensive limitations, even if it will put some additional pressure on the pitching staff.

(3B) Kathryn King (30, R)
(Speed: 5/10 | Power: 8/10 | Contact: 8/10 | Fielding: 6/10)
Kathryn King is one of the lesser-known Elephants players, largely because her numbers never jumped off the page. She’s not a great defender, but she puts up very consistent averages and hits for power as well. She’s continued to improve every tournament, and is looking to make additional strides at this level.

(SS) Lio Fischer (28, S)
(Speed: 8/10 | Power: 9/10 | Contact: 8/10 | Fielding: 8/10)
After four successful years in the Bees in Newport, Fischer was made the number one overall pick. He doesn’t have a true weakness, has developed into a true 5-tool player at the highest level -- with on-base skills from both sides of the plate, power, and excellent fielding to boot. He was known to be a bit of a hot-head in college, but has straightened out well, and is quickly becoming a superstar for the Elephants. This is still only going to be his third Classic.

(LF) Raffaele Pohl (32, R)
(Speed: 5/10 | Power: 7/10 | Contact: 8/10 | Fielding: 5/10)
One of the most hyped prospects when she was drafted as a teenager, Pohl has developed well. She’s not a flashy outfielder, but she can hold her own well enough on defense. Her real upside comes with the bat, where she is always a threat. She has always had an elite walk rate, and she combines it with a good power swing. She’s played right field before as well, but the Elephants are likely to keep her in left to shield her defensively.

(CF) Theo Möller (30, R)
(Speed: 8/10 | Power: 7/10 | Contact: 7/10 | Fielding: 9/10)
Möller stands out with his power ability, but especially as a defender. He’s probably the best player on the Elephants defensively, but he’ll want to up his contact rate if he wants to become a true star. His first few campaigns with the Elephants were fairly unremarkable, but certainly solid. His teammates praise him for his work ethic.

(RF/CoOF) Teresa Mills (32, L)
(Speed: 5/10 | Power: 6/10 | Contact: 7/10 | Fielding: 6/10)
Mills was a largely overlooked player out of Walstreim, scooped up in the second round, but she’s consistently improved all aspects of her game throughout her time in the big leagues. Always a contact hitter at heart, she’s improved her power swing and, most importantly, her plate. She’s managed to win out in the battle for the start in Right Field, but the Elephants will most certainly give Maria Phillips some time in the field too.

(DH/CoOF) Maria Philipps (34, S)
(Speed: 4/10 | Power: 7/10 | Contact: 6/10 | Fielding: 6/10)
Philipps was a sure-handed glove with a quick first step, but has declined a bit defensively with age. In exchange, she’s become a better hitter, especially improving her power, and her ability to hit to all fields. She’ll get some time out in the field, too, but for now will mostly be used as the Designated Hitter of the Elephants.

Bench

(C) Luke Scholz (28, R)
(Speed: 4/10 | Power: 7/10 | Contact: 6/10 | Fielding: 9/10)
Even back when he was playing in college in Kinjestad, many expected Scholz to eventually succeed Löfgren as the Ellies’ primary backstop. After a strong career with the Otters, he was drafted fifth overall. He’s an excellent defender, both framing and throwing out runners, and does enough as a hitter to frequently earn himself playing time.

(MIF) David Wagner (28, R)
(Speed: 9/10 | Power: 3/10 | Contact: 6/10 | Fielding: 8/10)
Taken in the same class as Lio Fischer, Wagner commanded a lot less attention. Taken in the second round out of Rüsselsheim, he’s a solid defender and speedy baserunner, but has never hit in a way that suggests he should be an Elephant. It seems clear the Ellies want him as a defensive swiss-army knife and pinch runner, and he seems to be okay with that, happy to contribute to the Elephants in whatever way he can.

(SS) Joan Allen (32, R)
(Speed: 5/10 | Power: 6/10| Contact: 8/10 | Fielding: 5/10)
Allen was drafted late, having played shortstop at a small Moocha college, without massive expectations. However, she was able to work himself into a key role, becoming the starting shortstop of the Elephants; and has proven that she has the tools to be a very valuable asset; although her fielding isn’t great. She’s lost the starting role for now, but continues to put the work in trying to get as much playing time as possible.

(OF) Pauline Bardemaker (23, R)
(Speed: 8/10 | Power: 5/10 | Contact: 8/10 | Fielding: 4/10)
Bardemaker, who is from Ratzupalfu but claims some Ko-orenite ancestry, is one of four rookies on this roster. She was fine for the Egrets in her final year in college, capable of getting on base and definitely a threat on the basepaths. Her defensive limitations, especially her arm, will likely keep her from more significant playing time.

(UTIL) Aurora Delgado (27, R)
(Speed: 9/10 | Power: 3/10 | Contact: 6/10 | Fielding: 9/10)
Delgado came pretty much out of nowhere to make the last roster, but the Elephants are interested in an utility defender given the restrictions of WBC roster sizes. She really isn’t a good option at the plate, but she can defend a variety of positions very well and is also pretty speedy. Watch for her to develop even further with more time at this level.

Outliers Preview
The Outliers return to the WBC, 11 cycles removed from their only title in the sport. With Bouveil Community College having just won the NationStates College Baseball Championship, few of their standouts made it on the roster - let us take a look at this team, its strengths and weaknesses, and what the outlook is like heading into a very interesting group.

All nine position players return to the lineup. Alena Egorova may be 33, but she had one of her best seasons for the Originals in the last season, and her veteran presence is a huge asset to the squad. Other than that, the oldest starters are the duo of Park Hye-Bin and Béa Arcierge at twenty-nine years of age, so they're very much in their prime. The biggest bats for the team remain the duo of Miles Sturdevantt and Carmen Batista. Sturdevantt's fielding has improved so much that he is now a serviceable third baseman, while Batista's fielding remains the only weak point of a more than solid player. Egorova, Park, and Arcierge are the players that are the best fielders on the team, as the Chromatiks will try to continue to more of a solid infield defense than an outfield one, doing well against the small ball.

Some of the most interesting names on the Bench are Sarah Pedersen, the golden arm of the University of the Islands at First Bace, Isaac Braun, who was one of the reasons why the Barracudas won the Championship, stuck behind another mammoth Third Baseman, and Stuart Marks, the backup Catcher who could provide more of a batting threat than the one that Arcierge poses from that position.

Friend, Witters, Justinian, Jackson, and Gaillen are the starting pitchers of this squad - the last tournament for the duo of Eddard Friend and Ashleigh Witters. Friend's fastball has fallen off a bit, but he's made up for it with the mental aspect of being a starting pitcher, while Witters has gotten even wittier in how she pitches her game of always seeking contact. Justinian is actually the ace of the team with the amount of mind games that he plays - it's just Friend and Witters has the seniority - while Bynum-Jackson isn't done forming into her final product. Syr Gaillen deserves this spot, and will try to make the most of it, enjoying the challenge of interesting situations. Expect the pitchers from collegiate levels to make the team in future cycles as starting pitchers.

Madison Breen, the best reliever of Bouveil, makes the roster as long reliever, while Harima Katawa is the veteran of this staff; Katerina Pavlova returns as the team's Closer, with Evan Hill as her Setup Man. This pitching staff isn't anything to hang your hat on, but it's the best you have with a semi-professional league like the one that the Chromatiks have for the moment.

As for the competition, they need to finish top two in the group to guarantee the playoffs - and what a group it is. The Serpent Eagles of Banija being your top seed is never a good sign when it comes to competition, and the four games against them will be a war. Kamijiro, the second seeds, are more of a better target - and then it'll be down to taking care of Andso Mangis (#24) and three Unranked nations.

Ideally, the Outliers go 9-3 or better in the twelve games against Unranked teams, win 3 of 4 against Andso Mangis, split with Kamijiro, and take a game off of Banija. That would be 15-9 - which may be just good enough.

They open up with a game at Andso Mangis and a game versus Kamijiro, with Friend on the mound for Game 1 and Witters for Game 2.

Lack of Time From Organization That Supposedly Hires Full Time People Causes Copy and Paste Roster

The Milchama Baseball Association (MBA) cited "a lack of time due to a new job that's much busier than the old job" when creating a roster for WBC 63. The MBA additionally cited, "increasing stress at work and increased worry about the future" as deciding factors in not worrying so much about what could happen during the WBC.

Many in Milchama were baffled as the MBA is notably, a full time organization, and it's unclear how workloads would have changed since there were no cuts in government funding nor any mass layoffs at the agency. When pressed on it, MBA president Tad Ben Yehudason cryptically said, "Trust the OOC process." We don't know what it means, but it sure is provocative and it really got the people going.

Anyways, our roster is a copy and paste from WBC 62 with literally zero changes.

Manager: Evan Warstickle - The former manager of the New Sparta Phoenix. Warstickle led them to MBL glory in the first season of the MBL and was promoted, well at least he wanted the job, of being the national team manager so here he is. Finally took Milchama to the vaunted semifinal spot and is now getting pseudo national hero status. He knows what will cement legendary status.

Starting lineup:

1. Elise Heffard SS Switch - New Babylon Pirates - Leading base stealer in the MBL last year, she also won a gold glove for the Milchamian side of the league. Moves up to leadoff hitter after Jones' retirement. Her speed will definitely lead to more steals in this WBC.
2. Khojin Mikanikei CF Switch - Karakorum Mongols - After a great MBL last year gets the call to replace Jones. Many are unsure with many other decent centerfielders running around. Will have to prove himself quickly.
3. Erez Goldman 1B LHB - New Babylon Pirates - New preeminent hitter in the MBL. After winning the slash triple crown, has moved to New Babylon in one of the first large transfer sagas in Milchama baseball history as moved from Tel Morlin to New Babylon. Worth it after again ripping it up for New Babylon in the MBL.
4. Eden Helfand LF LHB - Tel Chittor Forts - After leading Tel Chittor to two Magen Ikahakas as the best regular season team and one championship he gets his just desserts as the cleanup hitter.
5. Ro'ee Marquez RF RHB - New Sparta Phalanx - Good player, good guy. After leading New Sparta goes from hot prospect to locked in starter.
6. Kenny Kefauver 3B RHB - New Sparta Phalanx - Good player, solid third baseman who can bat a bit. Will stop 56 game hit streaks.
7. Sally Tannenbaum 2B RHB - Tel Chittor Forts - Generally plays on the left side of the infield but with Heffard locked in there she moves to second for the national team. Great defender and a decent hitter.
8. Max Krennick C Switch - Alexandria Commies - Took over from the legendary Shosh Hamat and definitely justifies his place here. He hits better than her but he's still a catcher. 93% caught stealing percentage. Run on him at your own risk.
9. [Pitcher]

Starting Rotation:
SP 1: Diego Numarkez RH - Alexandria Ships - Up and coming Mizrahi prospect. Was aggressively promoted to the ace of the staff but many are excited for him.
SP 2: Benjamin Miller LH - New Babylon Pirates - Known for his curve and screwball but his fastball might just be his best pitch. It's certainly underrated.
SP 3: Lev Garrick LH - Tel Chittor Forts - Curveball specialist and known for his off speed stuff. Has the most endurance of anybody on the staff.
SP 4:Milo Vashington RH Alexandria Ships - Rewarded for a career year where he won 25 games with a sub 3 ERA.

Relief Pitchers:
RP 1: Norry Tookan LH - Alexandria Ships - He's not a bird, he's just a man with 102 mph fastball.
RP 2: Daren Belshblatt LH - Tel Chittor Forts - Moves back to reliever for the NT after a poor year on Tel Chittor but gets rewarded with keeping his spot on the team. Usually a starter for the Forts.
RP 3: Barry Bruck LH - Alexandria Ships - In the olden days would have been a loogy but because that's now illegal he learned how to get righties out, had his best season ever last year.
RP 4: Itay Makalorn RH - Tel Chittor Forts - The Forts lockdown closer with 48 saves comes into the national team.
RP 5: Missy Turbons LH - Alexander Commies - Not much to say. Some might say 0.
RP 6: Pie Tobaldi RH - New Sparta Phoenix - The Phoenix lockdown closer with 42 saves comes into the national team.
RP 7: Vivian Vivan LH - Alexandria Commies - The Commies lockdown closer with 37 saves comes into the national team.

Bench Players:
David Gavry C RHB - New Babylon Pirates - He's the backup catcher!
Sydney Meyer IF RHB - Akkad Libraries - Great defender, can somewhat contribute on offense.
Eden Hazadly OF LHB - Alexandria Commies - The defensive outfield sub if necessary. Hazardly can hit but doesn't hit well enough to play on the national team.
Liam Hasalenger Util Switch - Karakorum Mongols - A super utility player in the Ben Zobrist mold. Hasalenger is known to play LF/RF/2B/3B above average while on basing around .380. Will generally be used as a defensive sub anywhere and looks likely to take over from somebody at some point if the Warriors falter.
Tal Ted 1B RHB - Tel Chittor Forts - One of the best hitters in the MBL last year. Is on the team to hit. Will be the first pinch hitter off the bench.
Diego McConstaff OF LHB - Tel Chittor Forts - Look you win 120 some games and managers are really into picking your starters for the national team. McConstaff is also really good. Look for him to play some centerfield.
Missy Shapiro IF RHB - Alexandria Commies - Gets rewarded for gold glove play in the infield. Also, gets here over several other shortstops because she can play some outfield as well.

RP Permissions:
Do whatever except obviously I do not use the DH at home (or on the road).

Milchamian Playing Style:
Imagine a more powerful and sabermetric friendly version of somewhere between 1960s and 1980s baseball, lots of stolen bases, hustle, taking the extra base etc. Starters attempt to go 9 and rarely go less than 7. That said, sabermetrics are a thing and on base percentage is the most important hitting stat, launch angle is a known concept, and generally statistical analysis is very similar to modern MLB.

A note on Milchamian pitchers:
Since cricket got increasingly popular in Milchama over the Isolation there has been a concurrent belief in increasing the ability of pitchers to hit. Therefore, Milchamian pitchers tend to hit like Greg Maddux or like pitchers in the 1920s. Not actually good hitters but will be able to get on base if you give them an easy pitch.

Relievers note:
Relievers are listed in order of leverage situation. RP 1 = reliever likely to come on during the highest leverage situation, RP 2 in the second most important etc. No traditional closer but you get the idea.
Milchama Sports achievements:
World Baseball Classic 23 Champion! Arrosia Regional Championship 2 Champion!
Note: The demonym is Milchamian. There are two of the letter "I(i)" and not one.

3x CoH winner (29, 46, 50) 3x WBC winner (4,5,23), 1x World Cup host (32), 1x ARC Champion, Various other minor trophies there's a football club trophy, a kleptochase trophy, Other minor international football trophies.

Quebec and Shingoryeo National Baseball Team
World Baseball Classic 61 Champions

Narrative Overview: After surviving a major existential doubt in middle of the WBC 53, where the nation has nearly reached the point of withdrawal from international baseball, the Grim Reapers have not looked back, pushing the eventual champions Banija to brink on the WBC 53 and then continuing it further with a remarkable, third-place run on the WBC 54 commonly known as the 'Miracle Quebec' team.

Now, with most of their three biggest names known as the 'Taewha Three' - third baseman Heo Myeong-Shin, right fielder/first baseman Theo-Alexandre Pinson, and centre fielder Samuel Carlini-Mwambutsya - all retiring, and the bullpen mostly causing trouble for this squad all-cycle long, there is no doubt that a major transitional period coming up for the Grim Reapers. Fortunately, the recent crop of talent seems to bode much-needed optimism, with the Under-22 national team continuing to perform well internationally, suggesting an improved state of commitment towards internal, youth-driven pipeline. Of course, it remains to be seen on how this group of talent transitions - it took some adjustment period midway for the previous crop - can they do it much quicker this time?

Also accompanying the Grim Reapers, as expected, are 'The Bubonic Plague', the official supporters' group of the Quebecois national teams on every senior level - there is no equivalent of such on junior levels, due to many safety and developmental reasons to be discussed in future time. With a membership that goes into about three to four millions, the ultras are known for their wearing of the Quebecois Tricolour (Red, Black and Yellow), topless selves, and their extremely liberal use of musical instruments and hand-held flares. With this WBC being held entirely at home, it is safe to assume that tens of thousands will be decking the stadium stands, in-city pubs and hotel rooms of each and every services where their services (so the games) will be needed.

Oh, and they also got a beautiful pair of statues named 'Hail to the Victors', named after Admiral Sebastian G. Valdes and Air Marshal Nicolas Hodgkinson, who have served as the commander of the Royal Quebecois Forces in the allied forces' victory over Nazi Felix and Unholy Republican Empire in the 2010s (OOC note: WC69 and WC72 respectively).

The Bubonic Plague, themselves the ones for superstition and rituals, have introduced the statues in honour of two admirals, who at various points have raised financial and organisational support to modernise The Bubonic Plague to their current, full form. The statues, which were originally inaugurated as the centrepiece of the main ballroom floor at the legendary Supership owned by Marco Hertel and his 40,000-member Marco's Slaves, was since acquired by The Bubonic Plague following their legendary/infamous adventures in the Cavsarite Caliphate of the World Bowl 49. In the last three years, it has been modified and updated to be repurposed at the Parc de Joongyeong, where The Bubonic Plague would be using it to launch cannonballs and flares at various points of the game. This is what the kids call 'cool shit', anyway.

Most historic baseball stadium in the nation that has seen constant upgrades and renovations. Home to two of the five national high school championships and the QIS College Series every year, a great variety of baseball competitions, from peewee competitions to charity matches, take place here on a year-round basis. High outfield walls to the left and right, mostly retains the old, early-1900s appearance aided by copper facade.

While history does follow those who are present here, the Reapers also observe tradition of passion and gamesmanship at all times. Now, you often see that with The Bubonic Plague on one hand, but the players also wear their heart to the sleeve. Before, during and after every game, The Bubonic Plague makes sure to post a gigantic banner on top of the scoreboard where it says:

YOU ARE ENTERING THE COFFIN
FOUL PLAY SHALL BE ENFORCED HERE AT ALL TIMES
IF NOT, THE CROWD SHALL BEAT YOUR ASS ALIVE

Yeah, you get it!

RETIRED NUMBERS

Eleven years ago the Grim Reapers, just six months after the Grim Reapers' miraculous third-place run on the WBC-54 in Zwangzug, retire their two greatest infielders' numbers to the rafters of both the Parc de Joongyeong and Commonwealth Park, the longtime homes of the Quebecois national baseball team. The numbers coincided with their return from Cassadaigua to their home teams in Kingston Tigers and Saguenay Lions. It was a fitting nod to two legends and lifelong friends who have played on rival schools and clubs all their lives since high school and into Cassadaigua, and who have represented the finest peak of the Quebecois baseball. We will all remember their decadelong heroics, especially the runs they had on the WBC 53 and 54.

COACHING STAFF

One of the only two numbers so far raised to the rafters, and the best third baseman at various points during his playing career, Heo Myeong-Shin returns for what's his second cycle as the Reapers' manager after succeeding Cassadagan Hall of Fame manager Taylor Bryant. Of course, it's gonna be a tall task to replace Bryant, who has won two WBCs first as Dagans' bench coach before winning her second as the Reapers' manager.

Heo's start to his tenure has been decent, with him finishing with a third-place finish after a catastrophic game five performance on semifinals series, but the unsatisfactory performance the Reapers held for quarterfinals, semifinals and even third-place series have left little to be satisfied for many, causing Heo to melt the bronze medals into a shot put instead. As a result, the stakes are high and expectations even higher with lots of questions asked and challenges thrown at Heo's way. Even with him afforded a very long leash most would not be given, even by the QBSF's generous standards compared to other sporting federations, the expectations are still that hopefully his era of Reapers will perform at a passable level, and perhaps back to the Championship Series sooner than later.

STARTING PITCHERS (6)

Two years removed from the victorious night in Zube, where they had walked off victors at the Game 7 of the WBC-61's Championship Series, Joh Hong-Seok and Devon McNeely-Buchanan are still the two star pitchers of the Reapers' squad. Tis time, however, McNeely-Buchanan takes the opening day spot as the sidearm has matured into an explosive power pitcher with whiplash-like sinker. Behind her, DNB is backed by Joh Hong-Seok's durable arms and Alois Milette Salgado, whose explosive delivery and 95-mile slider has brought him as the most impressive collegiate player since the days of Heo-Pinson duo 35 years ago, giving the Reapers a strong one-two-three punch. Behind them, Sakuraba Masato's love of dirt is complimented by Kang Deok-Yoon's finesse and Odette van Leuken's curveball.

THE BULLPEN (10)

Still an unreliable bullpen, the positional group's seen significant overhaul since the last World Baseball Classic due to continued inconsistencies. Now aged 35 and almost a decade older than fellow-WBC winner Cristian Bradau, Chloe Botez's back pitching as a closer after being relegated to setup spot last year. She's still a reliable bullpen pitcher in every metric, even as age starts hitting her stride, but will realistically need lot more help from Bradau and Kang Jae-Gwang. Complimenting Botez will be a rookie closer, Nahuel Halbert-Hwang, as NHH hopes to follow up from his most recent endeavour, where his 37-save season as rookie coming out of Coloratura State has put him on the runner-up spot to the rookie of the year.

INFIELDERS & CATCHERS (10)

Two years removed from an outstanding, Championship Series MVP run including the WBC-winning home run, Heo Hae-Seung's still the best second baseman in the world. The Tigers' superstar, whose contact is still averaging .343 and infielding footwork outstanding, is still the guy you rely on the leadoff, though at age 34, the Reapers should start giving more time to Kwak Bo-Seung at bat. Elsewhere the infield is mostly green with reigning rookie of the year, Song Seon-Bin, most notable for his 31 home runs at age 18, while Isabel Riva-Rokundo's drawing praises for her gap hitting and strong infielding. Third base isn't a strong suit for the Reapers' current era, unlike a 25-year stretch of Heo Myeong-Shin (yes, the Reapers' manager) and Noel Jackson, but Riva-Rokundo's potential and Claudel's malleability suggest more to be watched.

On the catcher spot, Yang Deuk-Goo's expected to take over from Luca Conti, whose Reapers' career has mostly been that of a backup catcher to Errol Kim and Cassandra Littlechild. Yang's an aggressive, demanding catcher whose shortcomings on framing is made up with bold playcalling, while Conti's reliability helps a lot with Sakuraba and Salgado, two most sensitive catchers from this squad. Alia Okello-Hovdebo from Mount Ester is also worth a watch, in part because of her hitting power.

OUTFIELDERS (4)

Still a weaker spot for the Reapers. From a relatively less-expected outfielder to a clutch, cleanup staple with the Reapers, Bryce Shelton is still the guy to be trusted when you need him to hit a homer. He's done that many times, both for the Reapers and the Saguenay Lions. But he's also getting older and older at age 34, and unlike Heo, who is running on his own time as ironman, Shelton's made it clear this would be his last WBC. He will be supported by Yi Jeong-Woon, an all-arounded left fielder who has shown decent power, but not enough contact to suggest a potential replacement, while Celine Shin-Arbuthnot and Ariadne Beliveau-Garipeau are fast centre-fielders mostly known for their quickness on feet and awareness.

NOTES

Traditionally, the Grim Reapers have taken the pitcher use with great dose of liberalism. Assuming the pitcher has a solid game, the pitching count is loosely observed, and it's absolutely in sight for the starter to go well into seventh or even eighth inning. That said, it is just as likely for the starting pitcher to get yanked within first three innings if one allows too many runs early into the game, which of course have happened before. In those cases, expect at three to five pitchers to be used for remainder of the game. Still, this is a squad that doesn't always use the sabremetric splits and substitutions to great degree, and barring major collapses (again) the aforementioned ordering will be kept.

Stylistically, the the Grim Reapers continue to be the power-based, offensive and aggressive bunch they have been - it's in their playing colours and will stay like that forever. It is a squad that doesn't exactly steal a lot of bases beyond the usual candidates - see those on the centre line - and while the infielders are known for being defensively stout, you cannot exactly expect them on the outfield. So this likely means that you may see an occasional whoopsie-daisie with early outs do happen, it will be treated less as a 'oepsie woepsie stukkie wukkie'. Still, positional versatility tends to be valued among fielders, especially the infielders, and that does factor into the selection criteria.

Of course, there is a bit of complicated situation with the Quebecois history and geographic realities. Traditionally, baseball has been a fairly racially and regionally ubiquitous sport in Quebec, though there are strong regional and ethnic elements that are noticeable to it. Traditionally, there is strong sense of regional pride that derives from many of the iconic QBO franchises that have defined its history, as six regions traditionally dominate in both high school and pro baseball output, which reflects well into the first round of QBO Drafts.

There are minor stylistic differences between the regions and how their players' play, but those don't factor as much as how they used to be. Ethnically, the sport does have more Korean-Quebecois players in general rule of thumb, though that means little in this day and age where most Quebecois, whether Indigenous, Caucasian, Korean or of other Commonwealth origins, are fairly multiracial. Still, Korean is the lingua franca of the baseball diamond and that continues to be a defining feature of the Quebecois baseball scene as whole.

The Kerlagrad Courier

Griffith Puyo-Sachar has dismissed as "completely scurrilous" rumors that Zwangzug and Zenic are going to conspire to throw matches so that each team has a good chance of advancing from exactly one of the World Cup 102 or World Baseball Classic 53 qualifying stages, where they have both been drawn together. "Even though we respect and admire the cool name of our fellow 'Z Squad' country whenever we run across them, we are not going to engage in this kind of skullduggery," said the baseball manager.

"First of all, how would that even work. Just because someone comes from the same country as you is no guarantee that you can rely on their word to help you take advantage of some foreigners, that's kind of a xenophobic thing to say. Secondly, how often do the baseball and football players even...okay, I'm kind of a bad example here." (Griffith is married to Nancy Puyo-Sachar, who played for the national football team in World Cup cycles 89-91.)

"But even beyond that, how would you decide which one to prioritize?" Puyo-Sachar mulled. "We're higher-ranked in baseball, Zenic are higher-ranked in football, Occam's Razor says the simplest thing to do would be to ensure each of us won those respective games. Certainly, baseball has historically been a very popular sport in Zwangzug over the decades, relative to the rest of the world. Yet, even I have to admit that the World Cup has a certain cachet that other events find it difficult to compete with."

"Anyway, even if you tried to pull this off, something would go wrong. The umpires would be too incompetent or some bloop would fall the wrong way anyway. Plus, it'd just be morally wrong," said Puyo-Sachar. "I hope that most of my compatriots, and most of the foreigners too, would agree on that."

"The good news is that such collusion for national gain would be entirely non-monetary," Puyo-Sachar noted. "Even we have some standards, and we're far too socialist to understand or abet gambling."

"Oh, Milchama is in our group, they really love baseball too," Puyo-Sachar enthused, before checking to see whether Evan Warstickle has blocked his number.

Garifunya WBC 63 Opening Press Conference

Herein are presented a few questions for Garifunya's manager, Jaakob Kayemba.

Q: Jaakob, how does it feel to be the manager for Garifunya's first-ever trip to the World Baseball Classic?

A: Well, as you know, we've participated in the International Baseball Slam before, but that was ages ago, before I was even born. And we have a domestic league, but ours is a small island, not on par with the great leagues of the multiverse. So I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous. But it is a great honor to be chosen to be the skipper for our first WBC voyage.

Q: What are your expectations for the team?

A: We're not the favorites, for sure. If any outlet has us pegged to be one of the best third-placed teams, I'd be surprised as well. But I think our expectations have to be to hold our own. There are no moral victories in professional sports; they don't give a trophy for the most close losses. But still, in our first trip to the WBC, if we can show the other nations of the multiverse that we know how to play honkbal and that they can't just roll over us, we'll be doing all right. I want us to be the best debutante in our group, to win a few games against ranked opponents, and get our younger guys valuable experience for when we're back here for WBC 64.

Q: The team does skew younger, with 15 of 26 players 28 or younger, and 11 of those players are 25 or younger. How intentional was that?

A: Of course, we tried to choose the best players available; a lot of the best players in our league are young. We didn't intentionally prioritize gaining experience over winning. That being said, if it came down to a toss-up between two players and one player offers us the ability to compete in three or four WBCs if they perform well, and the other might only be in this WBC or the next one, then age may have played a role.

Q: Jaakob, you say that, but Matthijs Jansen and Boudewijn Buitenweg are serving as your two long relievers or backup starters, and they're both over 30. What influenced your decision there?

A: Long relief is an area where we need experience. The primary job of a long reliever is to come in when we're trailing, save the bullpen, keep the game close and give the offense a chance to come back and make the game more competitive. We want people who have plenty of game experience, who won't get rattled or lose focus. Sometimes, when you're younger, and the game isn't necessarily particularly competitive, your mind goes other places. We can't afford that. We want a five-run deficit to stay there so we can chip away at it and come back. Whether we lose by five or lose by ten, it's still a loss, but a five-run deficit can be overturned. Ten runs is a whole lot harder. Matthijs and Boudewijn have the mental presence and steadiness to keep us in ballgames, and we expect to use them in other situations as well. These are Lokomotief and Vrijbuiters' top starters, so they're no slouches on the mound.

Q: So there's no truth to the statement that Platanakust and Mytelbeerg influenced your decision to keep Jamal Nordhuis and Jan-Jaap van der Molen off the roster? Those are two young guys with great velocity, but the rumor is that those owners don't want them getting hurt or being too exposed to multiversal eyes and get plucked off the island.

A: There is no truth to that statement. Injury is something we have to worry about with all players, not just young guys, and I hope that this tournament brings our players to greater multiversal attention. We want our players to play the best in our league, but if they have an amazing opportunity in a great league and the two teams can work it out, it's not my place to oppose that. We didn't include those two players because we didn't have room for them in our starting rotation, and we wanted experience for our long relievers. Velocity is good, but it's not everything. We think Matthijs and Boudewijn have a good balance of velocity, secondaries, and control. We have good velocity in guys like Dirk [Knuijt] and Wilkens [Kambata] at the back of our bullpen, so I think we'll be all right.

Q: What about David Essink as DH? Are you concerned about how he'll hold up or how he hits righties?

A: David's our guy. With a DH, you want power and the ability to impact a lineup. Having a guy like him hitting sixth shows that our lineup has tremendous depth. Yes, he's needed a day off or two during the season, but this isn't nearly as many games, and he won't be playing the field unless absolutely necessary, so we're confident in his ability to give us 100% day in and day out. As for hitting righties, yes, he has platoon splits, but he's a great natural hitter and offers us the chance to change the game with one swing of the bat. One more question.

Q: Ismail Rooseboom is coming off of a great season, but this is his first good year out of three. What made you confident he could handle the starting second base job?

A: Ismail's great and we have every confidence in him. His first two years in the league, he was a part-time player because he was blocked by a veteran and was dealing with some injuries. If you look on a per-plate appearance basis, he was incredibly valuable when he played. So it shouldn't be a surprise that he took off when he finally got the starting gig. We love his quick bat and his speed at the bottom of our lineup; it's almost like having a second leadoff hitter. And on defense, he has incredible range for a second baseman. He can pick it and he can turn it. If you're not a believer in Ismail now, you will be by the end of the tournament. Thank you and we'll see you for game one.

Banija National Baseball Team

Coaching Staff
The current manager, Kingston Jassey, is in his fifth cycle as the manager for the Banijan national team. He was a member of the Banijan coaching staff for WBCs 46-50, which includes the WBC 47 title winning team. He succeeds the great Isaac Oladipo- who was a world champion with Banija as an assistant at WBC 47, went to Super Llamaland as the head man for three cycles, and then came back to Banija, leading us to a pair of back to back appearances in the World Championship Series at 56 & 57, winning 56 against the Ellies, while being denied back to back titles by the Krauts at WBC 57. But after a disappointing group stage exit at WBC 58, Oladipo, at 75 years old, was basically forced to retire- and his much younger bench coach, Kingston Jassey, took the reigns.

Like his predecessor, he is an old school manager, less into analytics and more into traditional baseball thinking. He believes in the strength of this team, which are his starting pitchers- he is much more likely to leave a starting pitcher in too long rather than pull them out too quickly. He also strongly rejects the idea of a "bullpen game." While he got the team back to the KOs at WBC 59, they went far beyond that on home soil- riding the home crowds to their fourth world championship at WBC 60.

While they could not build on it at WBC 61, a semifinal run at WBC 62 has fans seeing visions of a trophy dancing in front of their eyes this cycle. That said, there are all sorts of big changes to the roster- long-time superstars, like Sadiiq Xoosh, Gouta Rehana, and Mutebi Nvunyi, for example, all retired at the end of WBC 62- those guys at the core of two different WBC title winning teams. So now, he's got a new challenge- usher in a younger generation, looking for glory of their own.

Manager- Kingston Jassey. 60 years old. Spent WBC 56-58 as bench coach, now the senior manager. Younger brother of Addo Jassey, who manages the Ratzupalfu Rhinos in the LPB.
Bench Coach- Isa Kah. 51 years old. 2nd cycle with the national team. Former bench coach of the Herzegovina City Hippos in the MBL.
Hitting Coach- Kasumba Kyenenya. 50 years old. 4th cycle with the national team. Came from the pro ranks.
Pitching Coach- Farai Samkange. 46 years old. 1st cycle with the national team. Former pitching coach of the Busukuma Rhinos in the MBL.
1st base Coach- Elias Teka. 44 years old. 2nd cycle with the national team. Came from the pro ranks.
3rd base Coach- Mirembe Kannyo. 62 years old. 3rd cycle with the national team. Came from the pro ranks.

MBL = MIlchama Banija League, Banija's and Milchama's top-flight professional baseball league.

If they have never played in a WBC and this is their first cycle, they are italicized.
All players are assumed to be male unless otherwise specified.
Players who are italicized are making their WBC debuts.

Batting Order with DH
1 SS Cyper Coulibaly. 32 years old. Right-Handed. Starter for the Jinja City Baboons. Plays 2B for his club, so an adjustment to play shortstop- although his infield versatility is well-known. A late bloomer, making his NT debut at 29, but re-building his swing two years ago has done wonders, blooming quickly into one of the MBL's top hitters.
2 3B Elisabeth Sa. 28 years old. Right-Handed. Female. Played for the Ratzupalfu Rhinos in the LPB. Her all-star campaign in the most recent season of the LPB has forced her callup, all the way to the starting lineup.
3 RF Salia Kamara. 30 years old. Right-Handed. Plays in the MBL for the Herzegovina City Hippos. Alumnus of Hangaza Tech. Entering his prime, he's becoming a pretty damn good hitter in Herzegovina City. He's known as a grinder- played four years of college ball before going pro, where he's worked his way up the ranks. Fourth cycle on the roster, second as a starter.
4 1B Kamirakwo Sejjala. 26 years old. Left-Handed. Plays for Kabakono Baseball Club in the MBL. A first baseman by trade, Rehana obviously is the priority player here. However, the youngster has showcased tremendous power. While his average could use work, he can probably hit the ball further than anybody else on the team. Expect him to be dangerous.
5 DH Wamukota Wassago. 26 years old. Right-Handed. Plays for the Kosactus Forest Elephants in the MBL. Hits for power, but not much average- he is at the DH spot because his defense leaves a lot to be desired. But he's probably Banija's best threat to go yard, each and every game.
6 LF Bwire Ssekaana. 22 years old. Left-Handed. Plays for the Igulu Bullfrogs in the MBL. Big and powerful, the left fielder is making his debut, trying to take a path straight to stardom. With so many veterans retiring, he's a guy who grew up a massive fan of Sadiiq Xoosh, and swings for both power and average. He'd probably hit higher, but the coaches want him to prove he can handle the pressure of the NT first.
7 C Vincent Loboto. 21 years old. Right-Handed. Plays for the Busukuma Rhinos in the MBL. His strength, of course, is defense- although occasionally he'll do damage at the plate as well. It is his WBC Debut, so expect him and Loobo to platoon at the position a lot, although he'll get pretty much everything come the knockout stages.
8 2B Damba Mukalo. 32 years old. Right-Handed. Played for the Ruditown Dachshunds in the LPB. Speedy and can fly around the basepaths, hits well for average and adding power to his game. Good performances in the LPB have earned him his first call-up, an opportunity that he surely intends to take full advantage of.
9 CF Bagamba Luzinda. 28 years old. Right-Handed. Plays for the Istria Vultures in the MBL. Alumnus of the University of Loyola-Istria. Fast as heck, and hits for average- although very little power. Rarely strikes out, however, which means he's frequently putting the ball in play.

Bench with a Designated Hitter
OF David Bello. 24 years old. Right-Handed. Plays in the MBL for Kabakono Baseball Club. First cycle on the roster. Cleanup hitter domestically, he is seen as a rising palyer in Banija's system- and will challenge Luzinda, the regular starting center fielder, for playing time throughout the classic.
IF Broulaye Diaoune. 28 years old. Right-Handed. Plays in the MBL for the Wakiso Chimpanzees. Alumnus of the University of Moravica. Second cycle on the roster. Known as an excellent fielder, he lacks power- but is a rapidly improving hitter otherwise.
2B/SS Astero Kabuye. 19 years old. Switch-Hitter. Female. Star player for Northern Moravica during the college baseball season, she did enough there to get the eyeballs to start for the NT. She comes from one of Banija's most prestigious sporting families- her grandfather is former NMU head football coach, Lance Kabuye, and she's got a few Olympian Kabuye family members.
C/1B George Loobo. 25 years old. Switch Hitter. Plays in the MBL for the Herzegovina City Hippos. Alumnus of the University of Bunyoro. Will be the starting catcher every fifth game during the group stages.
OF Almamy Ciss. 27 years old. Right-Handed thrower, switch-hitter. Freshman phenom at the University of Loyola-Istria.
3B/1B Tombe Namukoka. 27 years old. Plays in the MBL for the Jinja City Baboons. Known mostly as an average hitter and elite defender, expect most of his playing time to be for defensive substitutions.

Batting Order without a DH

Only plays corner outfield slots, not center field.

Starting Pitcher Rotation
All of our starters are tall pitchers who like to throw the ball hard. With the long group stage, the team is opting for a five man rotation, in order to ensure that their best pitchers get to pitch three times during the short group stage, as opposed to a worse pitcher pitching twice.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No(I have it all spelled out for you above! You can make in game substitutions for pinch runners/hitters or defensive subs as you see fit, but please follow the lineup as given above). Please see note about my backup catcher being the starting catcher every fifth game- so that's MD5, MD10, MD15, MD20, MD25, MD30, and MD35.
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes. Make pitching changes of course during games as you please, but please do not have other starters coming into a game in relief, ESPECIALLY during the group stages. My schedule has the specified starting pitcher for each group stage game, so please follow that- it doesn't necessarily just go straight down the rotation.
Eject my players:Yes(My manager is a hothead, you can eject him too)
Godmod scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: Yes (Please specify both the injury and the # of games that they will miss)
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes (Please specify both the injury and the # of games that they will miss)
Godmod other events: Yes (Whatever's fair game, but don't godmod scoring events, don't kill anyone w/o my permission, and no COVID/pandemics to effect Banija/any Banijans. Otherwise, have at it!)
Use DH at home: Yes
Other: When we are pitching, they induce a lot of ground balls. The strike out rates aren't terribly high for Banijan pitchers, but they play solid, fundamental defense, and they have strong arms all over the diamond. However, while Banija's rotation is one of the strongest in the multiverse, the bullpen is weak- so RPing about the manager leaving starters in for too long, and that he doesn't trust any of his relievers, is encouraged.
