Is god real?

Postby Underium » Fri Dec 24, 2010 10:55 am

I know this is a touchy subject to some people, however due to my recent observations I see that most people in Nationstates can have a good argument without throwing in rage, or insults so let the discussions begin.

Personally I used to believe in god but now I just don't see how its possible.

my guess how this is going to turn out
phase one: people state opinions
phase two:arguments begin
phase three: any proof for either side is frogotten as both sides hurl insults at each other
phase four: thread is locked

Really? Another one of these? Ugh...

The existance of supernatural dieties cannot be proven or disproven.

Except in the case of the flying spaghetti monster. He definately exists.

The lack of verifiable evidence indicates that the answer is most likely no.

God (as seen in the Judaic-Christian-Muslim theology) cannot be real - as that would imply that it's finite, measurable, tangible, bounded; while almost any theological source points out that God should be infinite, immeasurable, unbounded (not only omnipresent but existing even outside the universe itself), intangible (unless he wills otherwise for a moment).

Reality (from latin: res, meaning "thing") is a property that defines physical (from greek: physis, meaning "nature") objects - and a God is definitely supernatural (or, if you prefer, metaphysical: greek, meta+physis: beyond nature).

Yep.

God hasn't been proven. Thus, in the grand old fashion of Science, my answer would have to be "I dunno. Need more data." I am on on the fence between Deism and Agnosticism.

ok

that bible story of the guy who kept visiting people 5000 years ago then abruptly dropped the practice?

he doesnt exist

but you can develop a more mature nuanced view of "god" that you can believe in. if such things are important to you.

The great God Atum-Ra, who created us all by blowing himself, most assuredly is real. The evidence is overwhelming.

I have an example why I don't believe in god.

God made the earth in three days, according tot he bible, however he made the sun the moon and the stars in one day. I might be able to believe that at the rate he was going he could have made the moon in one day, but the sun is over 1,000 times more massive then the earth, therefore it should have taken more then 3,000 days to create the sun alone! let alone the trillions of other stars, there is no way that he could have done that all in one day!

It helps when God speaks to you, then you know He's real.
God, I want to dream again,
Take me where I've never been.
I wanna go there,

Have I missed these rageless, reasoned debates you've apparently observed? I'd be willing to believe in a god if you can show evidence of these.

Anything that exists can be proven(even a god), if there is no proof that one exists its more than reasonable to assume one doesn't and irrational to assume one does.

1. God is supernatrual out side of our decided time so 6 days for him (how long creation was) could have been millions of years
2. don't take the bible completley literally
