"I've decided I'm going to try having a dream," Scapegrace said.

Practice the day after the opening match had ended, and a group of Elderlanders were seated high atop one of the towering lighting towers at the training facility in Aloquirbe. Bellwether had been the first to set his eyes on the dizzying height, inveterate leaper and show-off that he was. Others had quickly followed though. To the gnomes, it was a new and exciting activity, leaping, climbing, shimmying and otherwise making their way to swing their legs from the fixtures atop the high steel pole. Tarvos at first had threatened to tear the light pole down, considering the gnomish behavior undignified, but quickly fell to bickering and bragging with his irrepressible teammates. In the end, he joined them, arriving on top of the pole with a single, perspective defying step. Any mortal present would likely have been driven to a headache at best by the casual defiance of physics on display. Fortunately, the practice field was not open to the public. The Britonish hosts had proven much more tolerant than the Tanirinthians last time out, forcing no special provisions on the Fey team to hide their true nature. Still, while some Britonish citizens had seemed curious about these strange visitors to their land, the consistently odd behavior of the Elderlanders could be off-putting or even frightening for some, and thus they'd kept mostly to themselves.

All the same, some degree of curiosity from the Fey toward their mortal hosts was only to be expected, especially since they were now permitted to mingle openly.

"Having a what now?" Numbles squinted into the sunlight, shading his eyes as he looked at Scapegrace.

"A dream, it's a thing that mortals do while they're sleeping." Scapegrace had an unusually patient manner for a gnome. While most were the very embodiment of youthful exuberance with attention spans that scarcely spanned the space of a breath, her many years of life had given her a much different perspective, even in relation to the others on the team, who were themselves more focused than many of their fellows.

"What gnomish foolishness is this?" Tarvos frowned down from where he stood stiffly over the seated gnomes and eladrin. "Mortals do nothing while they sleep. They close their eyes and lie still as stones, nothing more. They must do so or they shall die, I deem."

"No," Scapegrace insisted, prompting a threatening glower from the archfey, "they have thoughts in their minds even while they sleep, though often they are not aware of it."

"How could anyone not be aware of their own thoughts?" scoffed Beefwit (loudly, though that essentially goes without saying in his case). "I always knows what I'm thinkin."

"Mortals are strange creatures," began Jareth, who had more experience than most with mortal travelers in the Elder Lands. "They are not like us, creatures of will and intention. They are knit of flesh and bone like the beasts, but trapped within is a mind not unlike our own. The flesh must rest, as Tarvos says, but the mind, the soul I deem, is restless. It tells itself stories while the body sleeps to keep company."

"But there are some mortals who say that there is no soul, only their flesh," continued Scapegrace, "and yet they dream still. Could it be some natural process of their body instead? I am not sure how to have a dream myself though."

"These dreams you speak of are no tales told by an imprisoned mind." Hallar now spoke up, nearly as aged as Jareth, and well respected by the team, even Tarvos. "They receive visions from our own minds. Just as the Eldest can speak into the minds of their followers, these mortals can hear our thoughts, after a fashion, though only when their own minds are quieted in repose." He turned to Scapegrace and shook his head sadly, "I fear that such an experience is impossible for you, who are of a different nature from they."

Scapegrace frowned and showed Hallar her middle finger, a human gesture she'd learned recently and was thoroughly enjoying. "What do you know about it anyway? Go practice your bow and arrows until you can score more goals than me. If I say I'm going to have a dream then I'm going to have one, and nothing you say will stop me."

"All I have to do now is figure out how to sleep."

i guess we're making this a storyline

Postby Drawkland » Wed Oct 16, 2024 2:29 pm

Short recap in case you didn't follow my Olympic RPs
The Elite Eleven, a group of eleven Drawkian athletes who obtained their modern fame through exhibitions and taking the reins as Drawkland's national soccer team for several cycles, returned to the pitch as the men's team in the summer Olympic Games. The most notable of the Elite's abilities, besides embarrassing themselves on the field, is their incredible endurance and versatility. They revealed a few years ago that this was not due to outstanding conditioning or genetic luck, but rather extensive training done over several hundred years, as all eleven members of the team are immortal, similar to Drawkland's founding leaders.

While their immortality was now public, there is much information about immortals which must be kept confidential for security reasons. Many years ago, the Immortals Accords organization was founded to assist Drawkland's immortal residents with keeping their identities or histories secret due to this need. During the Olympic Games, though, the Elite experienced what may be a breach.

Very personal information about Dominic Southers, one of the Elite's members, was posted in an oft-derided tabloid in Drawkland. Normally one would ignore such sensationalized stories, but the information was far too personal and accurate to be mere coincidence. Worried about the ramifications of a potential breach, Elias Keys of the Elite took it upon himself to track down who could've obtained this information. More importantly, he wanted to know why.

Elias did manage to find the "how" - a keepsake gifted to a member of the Elite while spectating events at the Games appeared on second look to be some sort of recording and transmitting device. With the help of Grid Corps national team member Leo Cross and the son of Drawkland's founder, Lerocav, Elias tracked down the receiving end of the transmitting device in a motel in Hamilton, Electrum.

Several months prior, at the Olympic Games ...
HAMILTON, ELECTRUM

After effectively picking the lock for the door, Lerocav silently turned the door handle. Elias Keys and Leo Cross didn't know if they were ready for what would be on the other side of the motel door, but they took deep breaths and watched as Lerocav cracked the door.

Elias's earlier prediction appeared to be correct. Lerocav peeked inside and didn't see signs of anybody in the room, but the room wasn't silent. The TV was on, playing Olympic event footage, but the rest of the room was dark.

Without saying a word, Lerocav motioned for Elias and Leo to follow him, and the pair obliged. The trio crept into the room, taking stock of what they saw. It looked like a rather nondescript motel room. A small luggage bag sat on the floor next to the bathroom. On the desk sat a laptop with the lid open but the screen black.

"Is that it?" Lerocav whispered, pointing at the laptop.

"Oh," Elias replied quickly. He whipped out his phone, activating the tracker on it and aiming it towards the laptop. The tracker blinked rapidly. "Yeah, that's the receiving point."

"There's a hefty-looking flash drive plugged into it," Leo noted quietly.

"I'd bet it's the receiver." Lerocav chewed on his lower lip in thought. He looked back at Elias and Leo. "I'm going to see if I can get into that computer. They may have security features with the camera or something, so stay where you are and keep out of the frame just in case."

"Are you sure?" Elias asked quickly. "I have a lot of technical experience. I can-"

"We can trade resumes some other time," Lerocav replied dismissively. "We have a limited time frame here. We don't know when the owner may be back."

"Fine." Elias grumbled.

Lerocav carefully stepped to the laptop. He noticed a tear-away notepad resting on the desk, so he cleanly tore off the top piece, folded it, and rested it on top of the laptop screen so it covered the front-facing camera. Silently, he beckoned for Elias and Leo to come closer.

"Let's see what it's got." Lerocav tapped the spacebar with his knuckle, and the screen lit up ... to a password entry dialog.

"Are you gonna crack that?" Leo asked.

"We don't have time for that," Lerocav frowned. "This looks like it's an organizational machine rather than a personal computer. Very generic background, appears to have an identifying number in the corner of the login screen, the username is formatted rather than just a name."

"A name would be more helpful," Elias groaned. "We could try looking through directories or social media for clues."

"I disagree." Lerocav took off another slice of the notepad, pulling a pen out of his pocket to write down the information he could find on the laptop. "If it was a personal device there's no telling if the name is correct. This is clearly from some company or organization, due to the username format. If we can find the company, we know who's trying to spy on you."

"'BKOHE002,'" Elias read from the screen. "First initial, last name?"

"At least part of it."

"There's no logo on the top of the receiver," Leo pointed at the flash-drive-like device plugged into the laptop. He reached for it. "Maybe if we looked at the bottom-"

"Don't touch." Lerocav intercepted Leo's branch-like arm and kept him from making any contact. "We don't want to leave fingerprints."

"You touched the laptop to turn it on," Elias pointed out.

"If they have my knuckleprints, then they deserve to find out it was me." Lerocav pointed at the items on the desk. "I've kept everything in place. Everything I've touched I'm taking out with us. Our best shot is to feign ignorance and innocence. If they find out we've been here, things get a hell of a lot more complicated."

"What if they have a recording device set up in the room?" Leo asked, looking at the ceiling like he'd see a microphone taped up there.

"Then we pray our investigation can outpace their evasive manuevers." Lerocav muttered. "Come on. Every additional second we spend in here makes me more antsy. I've got the info we need written down, let's go."

"Yes, sir sub-Drawkionel." Elias stuck his tongue out.

"That's not my title." Lerocav replied instantly, heading for the door. "What you should be calling me is officer. In the Accords, I'm the Deputy Officer of Security. That's who you're dealing with now."

"I'm looking forward to our working relationship," Elias mumbled. This was already more trouble than he wanted to run in to.

Current day, IAC-22
TELM CITY, BRITONISEA
Unfortunately for Elias and Lerocav, their search once they returned to Drawkland came up empty. Despite his best efforts, Lerocav was unable to locate the company that owned the laptop. Elias had informed Jaxon Madison, the Elite's unofficial leader, about the small recording device they'd picked up at the Olympics. They agreed to keep it in a public but rarely-used section of the Elite's complex to avoid looking suspicious. After several days, Elias noticed the device was no longer sending out a signal. Whatever power supply it had was either drained, or the receiving end of the connection was too far out of range to bother connecting. Now it was just a gaudy coaster on one of their lounge tables in the sitting area at the front of the building.

Months passed, and no more "leaks" seemed to occur. With Lerocav's trail coming up dry, the Drawkionel's son officially placed the investigation on hold, awaiting further evidence. Most of the Elite didn't even know about the breach at all; half of them hadn't read the tabloid article in the first place. Only a couple that had read it even considered the implications anyway. Even Elias slowly forgot about it. After all, maybe it was just a particularly ambitious journalist looking for an exclusive scoop. Yeah, right.

Though the Elite Eleven were no longer wearing the Kick Corps mantle, they still liked to follow Drawkland's national soccer team on their adventures. After all, three of the Elite were dating members of the Kick Corps. Ellzidan and Septimus Xander were a couple a long time ago, which led to the Elite pursuing immortality in the first place. Mike Rodney and Nicole Warren's power couple status is what inspired Nicole and some of her fellow athletes to chase immortality a few years ago. Jaxon Madison and Cam Cross grew close during that latter saga. Elias Keys and Ross Hunter were platonic friends with Nicole and Cam, and Nicholas Kingston was contractually obligated to travel with the Kick Corps as he now served as the strength and conditioning coach or team physio for most of Drawkland's national teams.

Just over half the Elite made the trip from Drawkland to Britonisea, that being Nicholas, Septimus, Jaxon, Mike, Elias, and Ross. They were there in Telm City when Drawkland won their opening match of the tournament 4-3, a complete lack of defensive aptitude that the Elite would appreciate due to their personal style of play. They got to stay in the area for the second match, which led to Elias and Ross grabbing lunch downtown prior to the night game against fellow Sonnelian nation, Juvencus.

"I like the vibe out here," Ross said as they ate at an outdoor patio table next to a plaza.

"Apparently this is their biggest city by area and population," Elias replied. "Feels like a classic Drawkian city, really, in the downtown area."

"That's what I was going to say," Ross agreed. "Almost feels like a Bethelm or Kilnelm type city. East coast vibes."

"Right, right." The pair ate in silent for a minute or so.

"Hey, by the way." Ross said, pausing to finish a bite. "I dunno what just reminded me of this, but whatever happened with that article about Dominic? From the Olympics?"

"Oh yeah, that." Elias felt his stomach drop for just a moment. "Ah, I didn't find anything. I talked to Lerocav about it and he said it's no big deal."

"You talked to Lerocav?" Ross asked, a little surprised. "I thought you were trying to keep things under wraps."

"I was." Elias grumbled. "He sus'd me out. Ended up giving me some assistance. But like I said, we didn't find anything."

"Not finding anything doesn't mean it isn't a big deal," Ross replied with narrowed eyes. "If anything it-"

"Yeah, alright Jaxon, calm down." Elias said sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "Listen, if we get another clue, I'm all over it. I'd love to get to the bottom of it, but our trail went dry."

"Alright, alright." Ross relented. After a moment, he appended another thought. "Well, if our first breach came during an international sporting event ..."

"...maybe we'll get another while we're here." Elias finished the thought, literally. "I know. That's half the reason I came. You think I want to watch the Kick Corps get smacked in the playoffs in humiliating fashion again?"

"We did enough of that when we were the ones on the pitch." Ross grinned. "Fair enough, man. But this time, you're taking me with you if we're doing anything fun. You can't use the marathon excuse this time."

"Wouldn't dream of it, bud." Elias checked his watch. "Time to head out?"

"Time to head out," Ross agreed.

Watching the opening ceremony from the comfort of the hotel room that’d been temporarily turned into a cryogenic chamber holder, Glorius Emu was celebrating the announcement he’d be guaranteed EC1.8 billion (NSD$5m) more to invest in his, um, state-sponsored underground crack ring and mafia. And then there were the big prizes further up. EC27.14 billion for winning. Imagine how many placey crack mountains he could by and the amount of state-sponsored murders he could sponsor!

The scientifically enhanced bird brain’s mind was racing. Forget proving Emu supremacy over puny non-eshay human beings, the IAC would be able to fund his international law violations for the next two years minimum. Unless the scumbag StrayaRoos government embezzles the money claiming it’s ‘a violation of international sanctions’, which the Emu called bullshit on several times. If it’s a violation of sanctions, then why were Placey, Vartugia, Iqq and Robloxia still trading with him? Those are four pillars of the global economy. So, in order to fund his war crimes, Glorius Emu was going on a match-fixing spree [OOC: he’s not. The refs will probably just take the money and ignore him], and the trophy was going to come to SBI.

Matchday 1

Public opinion on the Opening Ceremony & First Match

Compared to what Britonisea could produce, there was widespread agreement amongst the newspapers that the Opening Act at the Independents Cup 22 was rather lacklustre and lacked that extra artistic oomf that people are used to seeing from large scale Britonish productions. The opening act featured a reprise of Mello Cinde’s Vha Mehlodhivestoile song, which was praised, alongside a clip that was thrown together featured the forty-two participating teams at the Cup. While there were backing dancers during Cinde’s performance, compared to the Rugby World Cup, which featured an interpretative section which was at the time described as a feast for the eyes, the IAC opening reportedly left some feeling “rather cold”. Of course, Britonisea is known for its efficiency as well as it's artistry. While the two can come together, sometimes the nation can veer from one side of the scale to the other - and this was seen as a matter of efficiency. An Opening Act was needed and one was provided. It most probably wasn't different to the likes we've seen from other nations, but truth be told, the nation was expecting more. One interesting point that was brought up was the fact that the IAC was awarded to Britonisea at a very awkward time for the nation. The Rugby World Cup was coming and the cooldown after the Olympics was still in motion. The IAC is the biggest tournament the nation could host aside from the Olympics with more matches than it would host at a 32-team World Cup. 121 matches will be hosted in Britonisea over the course of 24 separate days with 12 stadiums hosting in 10 cities - this was a big operation that the organisation team did not want to mess up at all. It seemed as though an opening act was the least of the organisation’s worries. Compared to the Olympic Games, where Opening Ceremonies drag on for hours and is a great insight into a country's history, at the IAC, it simply isn't as important. The Rugby Works Cup was seen as Britonisea's first major hosting of a single-sport tournament by itself and with less matches to worry about, the country has the space to plan. Unfortunately, this time, the real test was whether the nation could host 121 matches in such a short period of time and make everything come together in the way it intended. Well, only time will tell but the first 21 matches have gone ahead well, only 100 left to go.

After the opening match, however, that's when the real fun started. For team Britonisea, they played against Vaishnavaria who was in pot 4 so it was expected that the team could be in for a tricky match against them. Though, it must be noted that Britonisea has had many many years of experience with playing international games and while the team has never qualified for a world cup final, it should be able to beat a nation that is ranked lower than it. This marks the thirtieth cycle since the Britonish debut at the cycle and what better way to kick it off than with a win at Stadium Strata in the heart of Telm City - the football capital of the country. That's what Britonisea set out to do and they were able not only to win, but win rather convincingly - 3 goals to Vaishnavaria’s zero thanks to Hosseini and capital Castello - the latter scoring two goals in the second half to consolidate a Britonish victory. The result puts the host nation at the top of the group based on goal difference. The Britons mustn't get too complacent though, they still have to face the likes of Drawkland and Juvencus, both of whom are expecting to make it to the knockout stage. Britonisea has done it before, however, and can do it again - qualifying out of the group stage, and qualifying in first positon, just as long as the team keeps their heads down and focus on what they need to do.

The next Britonish match is on the busy day 5 of the tournament with the nation playing against Grand Exultia once again in their home stadium - with kick-off at 6pm. It will be an exciting match - one the Britonish public hopes they can win before they begin their campaign against Juvencus and Drawkland later on in the tournament. This could be the last time the team play in Telm City, but there is enough hope that that won’t be the case.

MD2 RP CUTOFF.

Note: The roleplays from Saterun & Tanirinthia will be counted towards MD2 though future roleplays after the official cut-off will be counted towards the next matchday. Safiloa's RP was posted after the scorination happened and will count towards MD3.

OF FATES AND FORTUNES
Chapter Twenty Four - The Turn

Clara woke the next morning rolled over to find Jasper still fast asleep gently snoring, she couldn't help the smile that crept over her face as we watched him there. Not wanting to wake hum but also wanting to get a start on the day she carefully inched herself out of the bed, pausing each time the snoring stopped and restarting when it did. She debated making herself her morning coffee to jumpstart her synapses however landed on forgoing it in fear of waking him up. Bleary eyed starting up her laptop and connecting to Eastfield Lodge's equivalent of the internet, looking up anything to do with the World Cup, football and luck. Tanirinthia were due to play their first match today and being in Group L had meant every other group had played their first matches already, casting her eye over the results and the match reports she noticed something.

It seem the chaos had spread, once Tanirinthia were the exception to the norm outperforming expectations, it now seemed that quite a few more teams were having their own slices of luck. Perhaps it was simply an artefact of this being the first World Cup with fourty-eight teams, bigger sample size, more matches more chances for upsets without any beings tipping the scales. Wishful thinking, if there was a pattern in luck the entity was behind it, but what did it mean that its focus was no longer solely on Tanirinthia?

Kameron scrambled around the hotel lobby. He hardly knew where half of his players were, and it was a large hotel. If they didn't get on the bus soon, they would miss their MD2 game against Indusse, which could decide the group. He saw Crespo across the room, but once he got there the player was gone. This entire morning had gone completely downhill, as a pre-tournament celebration before MD1 was still having effects today. Most of the squad was tired, and they certainly hadn't played their best game against Dhemixia.

They had still come away with all 3 points, but only just. They would have to be far better against Indusse. Just as he finished with that thought, he ran into Maksymillian. One look from Kameron was all the striker needed. Gradually, he eventually found the rest of the players. Even Cipriano, who was still in the breakfast lounge. A quick headcount on the bus confirmed everyone was there. As they pulled out of the parking lot, with not a minute to spare, Kameron breathed a sigh of relief. It had not been the smoothest start for team Saterun, but they always endured rough patches in the beginning of group stages. He was still confident they would eventually pull it together.

Britonisea was truly a beautiful place, and Kameron tried to get his mind of his worries by enjoying the scenery. It always helped to calm him before a match. The Claws had never faced Indusse before, but this was a team steeped in IAC history. It would definitely be a tough match. However, if they focused and truly pulled together, this was a winnable match.

Broken but still determined

Postby Safiloa » Wed Oct 16, 2024 3:26 pm

The football match between Kronbia and Safiloa unfolded in a highly strategic manner. Safiloa, typically a more cautious side, entered the game with a defensive mindset, determined to hold off Kronbia’s experienced lineup. Kronbia, known for their disciplined play and tactical prowess, adopted a moderately defensive approach but looked for moments to exploit Safiloa’s deep setup.

First Half:
Safiloa, sitting back in a compact 5-4-1 formation, made it clear they were aiming to frustrate Kronbia’s build-up play. The opening exchanges saw Safiloa absorb pressure, allowing Kronbia to control the tempo of the match. Despite Safiloa’s defensive posture, Kronbia's methodical approach paid off in the 34th minute. Safiloa’s focus on defense left them vulnerable to Kronbia’s calculated long balls.
Safiloa remained disciplined after the goal, refusing to open up their defense, but their attempts to counterattack were repeatedly broken down by Kronbia’s experienced backline. The first half ended with Kronbia in control, but Safiloa remained within striking distance, relying on their defense to keep them in the game.

Second Half:
As the second half kicked off, Safiloa stuck to their defensive game plan, content to soak up pressure and look for rare counterattacking opportunities. Kronbia, aware of Safiloa's cautious approach, maintained their moderate defensive stance but began to push forward with more purpose, sensing they could put the game to bed. In the 78th minute, Kronbia doubled their lead through a well-rehearsed set piece. The 2-0 scoreline reflected Kronbia’s experience and calmness under pressure, while Safiloa’s defense could only hold out for so long.

Safiloa, even with a two-goal deficit, remained hesitant to throw players forward, worried about conceding more. Kronbia, confident in their lead, played out the final minutes with composure, controlling possession and preventing Safiloa from making any meaningful inroads.

Final Whistle:
The match ended with a 2-0 victory for Kronbia, a testament to their tactical maturity and ability to break down even the most stubborn defenses. Safiloa’s ultra-defensive approach kept them in the game for long periods, but they lacked the attacking spark to truly threaten. Kronbia, more experienced and patient, waited for their moments and took them clinically, securing a deserved win.

ANOTHER DRAW FOR THE CARABAOS
Aloquirbe City Stadium, Aloquirbe, Britonisea

Image
Panayense fans against Malta Comino Gozo in Aloquirbe

Another day at the Aloquirbe City Stadium where there's a load of passionate Panayense fans who were supporting the men in azure against the Maltese. The first half was a dominant defense from the Maltese, where a Maltese player scored a goal to open up the game. But things get a little intense when a Maltese player shoved Nam and was given a foul. The free kick was taken by the rising star specialist, Gustavo Tiu and it actually scored like nothing that the Panayenses are going wild, and it was so close to a stampede for the fans. Luckily, the Britonish security stopped it. The match was a back and forth situation between both national teams, even though the Panayense fans were singing and playing too loud at the stadium. But the closest one to end the game with a goal is from Alvarado Martinelli who tried to lob the Maltese goalkeeper out and score a striking goal but it missed. And its an another draw for the Carabaos. "Woah, that was an intense draw for us!", says Rodriguez, the captain. "But we still have high hopes of qualifying to the next round if we beat 3 nations in a row." "I think, we actually let our Panayenses down", says Pierini. "But we will promise that we'll comeback stronger and hopefully get a respectable finish." The Carabaos will face against Natkr in Hardwood Field Stadium in Boschke.

Now the XVIII Olympiad was out of the way; we won't talk about that crushing defeat of the men's Malta Comino Gozo team, coming second in their group yet not qualifying. Onto new things, the Independent Associations Champs!

The first game for MCG was against West Barack and East Obama, the fifth highest ranked team in the competition. As this was MCG's first tournament they remain unranked. The result:

West Barack and East Obama 0–0 Malta Comino Gozo

Not too shabby! With a fresher team from the Olympiad the game looked like it could go anyway. Three shots by the 18-year-old Nico Micallef looked like they were going to catapult MCG ahead, but the West Barack and East Obama goalie wasn't having it, making some incredible saves. Not long after, Luke Attard picked up a long pass from Darren Grima and ran down the left wing. He cut inside, shrugging off a West Barack and East Obama defender, and curled a shot towards the far post, but once again, the opposition’s keeper managed to deny MCG of a goal. Trusted MCG goalkeeper Ġakbu Mogg, had his fair share of saves to make, too. A dangerous header from West Barack’s striker forced him to dive, and ten minutes later, he blocked another powerful shot. Used to being on the attack, MCG was now being more defensive before the break to stop any last second goals.

By the second half, the crowds were cheering loudly, eager for a goal, but sadly, no team could find the back of the net. Bay United’s Luke Attard nearly found a breakthrough again with a quick flick in the box, but the shot agonizingly skimmed the post. It wasn't a win, but it wasn't a loss either. All in all, it was a much-needed point against a strongly ranked side. Malta Comino Gozo sit in second currently with +1 in Group A . Elsewhere in group A it finished Edsmontik 3–1 Natkr,StrayaRoos Barrier Islands 3–3 Panay Islands and Guimaras. MCG will now play Panay Islands and Guimaras

(OOC: Well, here I am, late to the party as usual. Got some catching up to do here!)

MATCHDAY 1 ARTICLE:

BRIGADIER DEBUT DUD

The Borschtslatvian Beet Brigadiers soccer team made their official debut in the Independent Associations Champs 22, and it was not a good game for them. Much like Borschtslatvia's women's soccer team, The Petunias, who make their official tournament debut in the Jenna Raven 6 Cup, the Beet Brigadiers lost their very first event, with a score of 2-1. The Brigadiers were not up to par on their very first game, as their only goal was scored by Tony Chutter, and it was completely by accident.

"It was the darndest thing I've ever seen," said Bennett Jeffries, the Brigadiers' team manager. "Someone passed Tony the ball, he kicked it in the wrong direction as hard as he could, and by some miracle, it bounced against the goal post, and straight into the Aphrilia's goal. The goalie never saw it coming."

But it was too little, too late. We don't have high hopes for the Brigadiers.

MATCHDAY ARTICLE:

BRIGADIERS BOMB!

After a 0-2 loss, the Borschtslatvia Beet Brigadiers were laughed off the field. The game was humiliating. Try as they might, they just couldn't score even one goal against Adab. Several things were overheard in the stands:

"Who invited them?"
"Who told you guys you could play?!"
"Nyaaaahhhh! Ya play soccer like my grandmother!"
"This is why nobody likes beets, ya hacks!"
"A one-legged, geriatric sloth slogging through molasses in January can play better than you guys!"

That last one was shouted by Edna Beetsburger, mother of Brigadiers' goalkeeper Josef Beetsburger. Several people are thinking the Brigadiers just aren't ready to play with the Big Boys. If they keep going like this, it's likely they're going to be out of the tournament before it even begins!

(OOC: EDIT! "Sloth" was originally "slug." I changed it when I realized something. Slugs don't have legs! Oy. I've been having a rough year)

The atmosphere leading up to the New Drakaria match was intense. Expectations were low, as always, but Beepeeps entered the Halvenhavlve Stadium in Alshkan with a sense of hope and, still enjoying Hello-Weenie, came prepared with even more elaborate costumes.

Yuri Hotgui, after his “gym-mummy” debut, decided it was time for a change. For this match, he arrived dressed as a “sexy ghost,” covered head to toe in a white bedsheet with two eyes cut out, two holes for his arms, plus an extra hole in case Yuri needed to go to the loo

“Gotta keep it fresh, right?” he said to a fellow fan, who had opted for a “smutty mutt” ensemble.

The whistle blew, kicking off the match and within the opening ten minutes, a perfectly placed header from defender Anders Bucke found the back of New Drakaria’s net after sneaking up for a corner.

The Beepeean fans erupted in joy, and Hotgui, always ready for his close-up, jumped up, waving his muscly arms the air and yelling "woo-woo" as spookily as he could as the cameras panned past.

Whipping out his vuvuzela, through his extra hole, Yuri blew and blew as hard as he could as the football players slightly to press home their lead. However, Beepee have never been particularly good at being on top and New Drakaria managed to score to even up the game

The match was a ding-dong battle. Attack and counterattack.

Goal.... goal.... goal.... goal... the Beepeean fans voices were almost hoarse from cheering so much. Yuri was almost out of puff.... and when the final whistle blew and the scoreboard read 5-3, Beepeean fans were in full celebration mode. Their first win in forever.

Yuri and the Beepeean fans danced around jumping up and down in the Halvenhavlve Stadium and they couldn’t have been happier... Next up was Elyalanya-Hucalese and Yuri yelled "I'm in such good spirits, let's go have some", throwing off his bedsheet ghost costume.

Kannap 1-1 Taxhavn
Frozen Assets

In what most Taxhavnites considered as must-win encounter, the Shillingmen's star performers from the big opening day victory appeared startled by the pressure and after Lucas Colt blasted the Kannapians into a lead midway through the first half, nerves seemed to completely overcome Bradley Kemerer-Lascelles boys as they threatened a complete capitulation, with only two posts and a crossbar keeping out efforts that would've sunk them before the break. Marginally improved in the second half, they still took most of the match for Rik Dam to find an equaliser, and even then, failed to take off for a late showdown - it was tame from the boys in red from start to finish, and a draw was probably more than they deserved. Although they still sit top of the group, matches get considerably harder from here on in, and it is difficult to see where the next point is coming from. Finishing with a game against the unranked Schottia might on paper provide an opportunity but it is clear the Schotts, presently sitting second behind Taxhavn, have come to this with some of their former power restored, and they are not likely to be fazed by Taxhavnites. It could be all over before then anyway, with the top two ranked teams to come next and points looking hard to come by.

Reunion
Part 3/7: The Bridge

by Sports Editor Kit Samrodd

As I finish off my ‘tequilo’ special, the Maître d'hôtel of the Grand Bullion brings a famous guest to my table. At sixty-five, Evelyn Conjure doesn’t look a day older than the photos I had seen of her during the Schottic World Cup triumph of ’79, when she’d laid on the assist for Corinne Martel-Burns’ title winning goal. Don’t mention magic rings or spells of eternal youth. I’d made a mental note. She hates magic jokes, even now. Perhaps the only person in the world able to handle the menace Martel-Burns, who had a fearsome reputation and definitely wasn’t on my list of candidates for this reunion project, I am very much in awe of my guest and quite the nervous child as she arrives, smiling warmly, at the table.

‘Mr. Samrodd, I presume,’ she says, and then to the Maître d’, ‘I’ll have what he’s having - without the tequilo…’ She instantly puts me at ease, and I have to make a conscious effort to turn the conversation her way after she opens with a whole array of polite and interested questions for me about the Delts winning the World Cup, my own international career, and my turning to journalism when I finished playing. We talk easily about her early career at Blue Coast 1981 in Port Christopher, and her exploding onto the international scene, first in the Di Bradini, and then for the seniors in that first IAC title. ‘It all started here,’ she smiles, waving around - presumably referencing the whole city of St. Bernadine, rather than the Grand Bullion Hotel specifically.

‘And this town was where I first made acquaintance with my old buddy, right here in St.Bee. Piet was a bit of beast on the field you know, back in the day, but I think he had a soft spot for me. He always encouraged me to be ambitious, be more than I was. Piet always backed me. Mostly we had a phone and letter correspondence - I only saw him a few times in real life, but we had a great time when we met. Speaking of which, where the hell is the old bugger?’

We are both beginning to wonder where our second guest is when the Maître d' brings an Art Deco vintage-looking telephone over to our table on a gold-plated tray. ‘A call for you, Sir,’ he says to me.

It’s Jannes Masschelin, and he sounds very apologetic. Reassuring me that they are in Taxhavn, and his father is still very keen to meet with Evelyn and take a look around, he explains that Piet slipped out for an unplanned stroll around downtown St. Bernadine and seems to have got himself a bit lost. His cellphone is playing up too, so they are off out to track him down. Jannes advises us that we should probably head up to Hannëshavn without him, and confirms he’ll definitely be joining us tomorrow for the trip to Stadion Taxhavn, where the first IAC final was held.

Disappointed but knowing our time is limited, Evelyn and I head down onto the magnificent concourse of Saint Romaine Central Station, and board the first class carriage of the Mount Shilling Line train for destinations northwards. (My commissioning editor would never normally let me travel first class anywhere, but he’s happy that the paper covers all possible luxuries to impress the legend that is Evelyn Conjure. I may have taken a liberty with the lunch-time tequilo-and-lime in the hotel bar…) The Mount Shilling Line slides gracefully along the eastern side of the island toward the great industrial cities of Oranjestadt and Amstell in the north; the steel blue waters of the Bay of Taxhavn to one side, mighty Mount Shilling on the other and occasionally above and around us as we rocket through dark tunnels. In the luxurious cabin where we are served coffee and canapés Evelyn recalls more of her illustrious career. Not least, winning the World Cup in ’79 against great rivals Bonesea, who had already beaten Schottia twice in finals - deposing them as second IAC champions and then winning again in the 68th Cup of Harmony final. Piet, who became a ‘Bonesman’ by taking The Oath of Fealty when his home country imploded, never actually played for his adopted nation but his friendship with Evelyn was strengthened by these frequent footballing clashes which he enjoyed as a spectator.

In Oranjesatdt we make the switch onto the ‘Orange Metro’ and take the tube to Hannëshavn, where we’ll find Den Brygge - The Bridge - home of ADO Hannëshavn and site of several group and knockout matches in the first IAC tournament. At first Evelyn continues to talk about her illustrious career, and the somewhat ignominious end to her international days, refusing to make herself available following the fallout from the Jock Sonny era, the decline and modernisation (not necessarily in that order) of the once all-conquering Schotts. But eventually she falls quiet when it becomes obvious I don’t know where I’m going. I stupidly hadn’t planned a walking route from the metro to the ground, or made arrangements to meet anyone there. Evelyn herself did not play any games at Den Brygge, as her team were largely based on the Isle of Portsea before the final. She’s relying on me. Like Piet in St. Bernadine, we appear to be lost. Asking for directions doesn’t help - most people don’t have a clue what I’m talking about.

‘You know,’ I tell one passer-by, ‘the home of ADO Hannëshavn?’

They laugh. ‘ADO? That’s just a legend now. I think they went bust about forty years ago. The stadium is a car park now - look!’

We are standing right by it. The Rapidomerc supermarket, and its concrete multi-storey car park.

Spirits high despite second loss

Postby Safiloa » Thu Oct 17, 2024 2:14 am

Match Recap: Safiloa vs. Dhemixia

Venue: City Central Stadium, Sports City, Britonisea
Attendance: +/- 38,000
Weather: Clear and mild

Final Score:
Safiloa 1 - 2 Dhemixia

At City Central Stadium, Dhemixia secured a 2-1 victory over a resilient Safiloa in a match where both defenses were heavily tested. Marvin Bolton and Timothy Hawkins found the net for Dhemixia, while Safiloa’s goal came courtesy of Alisoa Tsilanan, assisted by Soa-Leïa Kenovin. Man of the Match, Dhemixia's goalkeeper Wesley Williamson, made several key saves to deny Safiloa a late equalizer. Safiloa’s goalkeeper, Teono Kavoian, also had a strong performance despite the loss.

First Half:
Safiloa, true to their reputation, started with a compact defense, relying on their 5-3-2 formation to keep Dhemixia at bay. Dhemixia, though typically cautious, showed more attacking intent, probing Safiloa’s defense in search of an opening.

The first breakthrough came in the 30th minute when Adrian Bush played a perfect through ball to Timothy Hawkins, splitting Safiloa’s defense. Hawkins, with composure, fired the ball low past Teono Kavoian into the corner of the net, giving Dhemixia the lead.

30’ - Goal! Dhemixia 1-0 Safiloa
(Timothy Hawkins, assisted by Adrian Bush)

Safiloa struggled to create clear chances in the first half as Dhemixia’s defense, anchored by Williamson in goal, kept them at bay. The half ended with Dhemixia in control, though Safiloa’s defense remained solid.

Second Half:
Safiloa came out with renewed energy after the break. In the 55th minute, Soa-Leïa Kenovin delivered a beautiful cross from the right flank, and Alisoa Tsilanan rose above the Dhemixian defense to power a header past Wesley Williamson, leveling the score and giving Safiloa hope. This was Safiloa's first goal in a major tournament in over a decade and was celebrated by millions of Safiloan fans, unfortunately, many of whom were too poor to attend in person.

55’ - Goal! Safiloa 1-1 Dhemixia
(Alisoa Tsilanan, assisted by Soa-Leïa Kenovin)

With the momentum shifting, Safiloa pushed forward in search of another goal. However, Dhemixia’s defense held strong, with Williamson making a crucial save in the 63rd minute from a dangerous shot by Safiloa’s Kenovin, preventing what looked like a certain goal.

Decisive Moment:
The match’s decisive moment came in the 72nd minute. Dhemixia earned a corner, and the resulting delivery caused chaos in the Safiloan box. The ball fell kindly to Marvin Bolton, who reacted quickest to fire it past Teono Kavoian from close range, restoring Dhemixia’s lead.

72’ - Goal! Dhemixia 2-1 Safiloa
(Marvin Bolton, unassisted)

Safiloa threw everything forward in the final stages, with Alisoa Tsilanan coming close to a second goal. However, Wesley Williamson was in fine form, making another outstanding save in the 85th minute to deny Tsilanan from a powerful header. His performance ensured that Dhemixia held onto their slender lead.

Post-Match Thoughts:
Despite Safiloa’s spirited fightback and Tsilanan’s goal, Dhemixia’s superior finishing and Wesley Williamson’s goalkeeping made the difference. Safiloa’s goalkeeper Teono Kavoian made several key saves but could not prevent the two goals that ultimately sealed the match for Dhemixia.

Man of the Match: Wesley Williamson (Dhemixia)
Williamson’s series of crucial saves, especially in the final 15 minutes, earned him Man of the Match honors.

A wave of joy swept through the nation as the referee whistled the end of the match, moments after the Black Eagles had beaten Krombia to earn their first ever victory in Men's football.

The match started in a slow fashion, with the first 10 minutes being no more than an armistice, as both sides tested each other. Sedlácek had been the main change in the starting 11 with respect to the disastrous loss on Tuesday against Indussia, substituting a very criticised Biró as offensive midfielder. And the change proved soon to be effective: in the 24th minute, Sedlácek saw Hájos on the left flank unmarked and made a lovely long pass some 50 metres out, which the full-back collected, throwing the defence off the scent when he cut inside instead of continuing to the byline. Hájos passed to Novák, who in turn saw Webern come in from the second line. The striker played a through ball to Webern, who, alone in front of goal, beat Rosendo Porfirio with a soft shot at the base of the right-hand post. It was 1-0 for Calgasia.

In the next minutes Calgasia tried to extend their lead, bur Kronbia, true to its style, proved to be a stronghold, cutting off numerous Calgasia attacks and launching some counter-attacks, although at no point did they trouble goalkeeper Kaltenbrunner. The Adlers demonstrated their struggle when it comes to find open spaces in tight defences. But that lasted until the 41st minute, Voss stole the ball in the midfield, took advantage of a mistake by Héctor while passing, passed quickly to Sedlácek, back to Voss, who made a good through ball to Szabó, who penetrated the Kronbia defence, and Szabó gave a pass into the box that Novák took advantage of, beating Rosendo again and putting the score 2-0 on the scoreboard.

Scoring just before half-time was a blow to Kronbia, and after the break Calgasia had a number of chances to score, but only goalkeeper Rosendo's performance prevented a bigger scoreline. However, perhaps as a result of complacency, in the 62nd minute, captain Ovidio Florencio made it 2-1 from a swift counter-attack. The Black Eagles then slowed the pace of the game to avoid further Kronbian chances and control the ball possession. This sealed the fate of Kronbia, as its defensive-minded style proved to be inefficient this time, failing to generate a good amount of scoring chances. In the 83rd minute Schiele headed in a cross from Hájos that Rosendo was unable to stop. 3-1 and the first victory flew to our nation (and the much needed 3 points).

"This is unbelievable. After losing 4-1 the other day, being able to recover, win against a tough rival and give this victory to our people... I feel proud and ready for the next match" said captain Gábor Szabó after the game. Calgasia will play next game on Friday 18th against Safiloa

It was the third match tag of the Horkenheimers’ campaign in the 22nd IAC, but you’d be vergeben if you walked the Straßen of Brinterberg not having the Seit to keep tabs on who the team were set to do some Verloren against this time; das war der Fall for most everyone. Rütger Hansa was no Ausnahme from that rule. He was sehr stressed out and it was völlig egal to him what the Horkenheimers were up to, because Heute was the day that his Kolleginnen und Kollegen were to read his proposed Projektvorschlag, and thereby determine his Zukunft at Das Institut. Would his exercises be Kritisch enough to warrant him a place on the Pantheon of Critical Theory that the institute was so Renommiert and famous for? Rütger watched them as they kept on Lesen his paper. Oh, die Ungewissheit of it all!

…and Diffundieren terminology related to research on Political Vertrauen - in the sense of Vertrauen in Institutionen or Systeme - seems to be a persistent feature (see, for example, Grim & Grim), and there are also approaches to Vertrauen that in many ways dismiss the very Idee that you as a person can have ‘Vertrauen’ in specific Institutionen or more overarching Systeme. Jũrgen Gartner - of Das Institut für Sozialforschung - is part of such a Tradition, and his Theorie is that Vertrauen depends on Verkapselte interests, which can Kurz be summarized as the Idee that the only ‘Vertrauen’ that makes sense to talk about is a Vertrauen where I trust that my Interessen are taken care of because doing so is also in the Interesse of the one that is Empfanging my Trust. Here, Wissen of other actors’ Motive becomes central, and this requires Direkte Interaktion mit The Other over time, making it difficult, if not impossible, to have Vertrauen in anything other than other Menschen. Gartner believes that any other Vertrauen would be meaningless to spricht about; in our relationship with the Staat and Institutionen, we cannot, and should not, have Vertrauen, but rather experience-based Erwartungen of how they behave.

My Ansatz is based on the Denkschule that Vertrauen should be understood as a Mechanismus to reduce soziale Komplexität (see, for example, Hertha-Berliner and Klingefeltspatmann). My premise that our Welt is komplex and ‘open’, in the sense that it encompasses almost unlimited Möglichkeiten and Alternativen for actions and events, and where Menschen have the Freiheit to act differently. Our way of handling this is through the formation of selective Systeme, or social Sphären, which bring a higher degree of internal Ordnung, limit Komplexität, and make the complexity Beherrschbar by channeling it. ‘Systeme’ can be understood on several levels. At a low level, a Familie could perhaps be a Systeme, while The Gemeinschaft can viewed as be a social System consisting of a large Gruppe of differentiated Sub-Sphären, which in some respects are independent of each other, but in other ways are deeply integriert (for example: Politisches, Rechtssystem, Wirtschaft, etc.).

Vertrauen is understood as one of several Funktionen that help maintain such Systeme, and this happens by reducing Komplexität for individuals by strengthening Toleranz for the ambiguity of existence (see, for example, Hertha-Berliner and Klingefeltspatmann). By taking a Leap of Vertrauen, the horizon of Alternativen one explicitly relates to is narrowed, and it helps individuals face a future full of potential Ereignisse. However, it is particularly in modern, technologically and scientifically advanced Gesellschaften, characterized by great Pluralismus, that Systemvertrauen becomes necessary. Vertrauen between people helps build bridges over uncertainties related to others’ Verhalten, but in modern Gesellschaften, this is not enough to maintain impersonal Systeme that all Menschen are mutually dependent on. This is where I would like to investigate and konzeptualisieren what Hertha-Berliner once eluded to as symbolische Mechanismen that the Systeme provide to citizens, and which help facilitate the selection of aspects of existence one needs and does not need to explicitly Beziehen sich auf, thereby reducing recipients’ need to account for all potential Alternativen in an indeterminate existence. In return for this provision, the Systeme are given Zeit and an extended horizon of Möglichkeiten to function, for example, to initiate, investigate, prepare, and implement politische decisions…

Walter Fromm scoffed and laughed condescendingly, and Helga Benjamin also smiled and gave From a Vielsagender Blick. Fromm put down the paper and shook his Kopf. «Oh, Rütger, Rütger. This is not very Kritisch at all. Mitleid! Where is das Ästhetische Annähern to the inherent vice of Liberale Demokratie! And you have not once mentioned the corrupting forces of Popkultur!» Benjamin nodded in Vereinbarung and said «Yes, this is nicht Kritisch enough! Hertha-Berliner? Funktionalismus and Systemtheorie?! Nein, nein, nein!»

So Rütger was told to leave, and he would not be getting any of the Gebäck lined up behind his Richters. It looked like he was destined to continue his research at the much less acclaimed Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaften. Schlect indeed.

All told, a 1-1 draw with Indusse after a hectic pre-match in which the team had left with seconds to spare was alright. It was still a little surreal for the players that this was a match in which Saterun were technically the favorites, and it showed during the game. Maksymillian Bates scored his second of the tournament late in the game to equalize, and the Claws never looked fully in control. However, they were joint-top of the group stage in terms of points, although the pack was right behind. Up to three teams could qualify for the knockouts out of the group, so Kameron wasn't very concerned, but he also wanted the supposedly-favorable matchup that came with a higher seeding.

The Claws were to take on Kronbia next, and Kameron and the coaching staff had already started their preparations. Kameron personally didn't know very much about this team, which had only risen to relevance recently, but he knew they could be beaten. Theoretically, anyone could, but this was a vital match to pick up points for the Claws. This one had to go their way. In order to assure that, they would be focusing heavily on technical training the next couple of days, making sure they were in peak condition ahead of the important match.

As Kameron was getting back on the team bus, he sensed that something was off. Most of the players were quiet, and all eyes fell on him. Lisa Lleget quickly whispered the news to him. After the match, Adrian had disappeared. The last anybody had seen of him was when Thiago passed him on the way to the boot room. Adrian was a young player, so it could have just be jitters, but in Kameron's limited experience with him, he had gotten the sense that Adrian was highly professional. He had, after all, just been a part of the Mieteng City team that had won the A Liga. Still, the sudden disappearance of a player didn't usually warrant a total hush over the squad. But Kameron didn't have all of the information.

Apparently, Adrian had taken all of his personal belongings. His phone, wallet, ID, everything. He had left nothing. Nothing for him to come back to. Slowly, Kameron started to realize what the end goal was. Adrian was trying to go home. Kameron knew that this was always a danger with young players in their first international tournaments, but he had luckily caught it with all of his other young stars before it became an issue. The pressure, combined with being in an unfamiliar country, was often too much to handle. However, Adrian was a powerful impact sub with very high potential, and this tournament was a necessary step in his development. Kameron had to catch him before he left the country. The race to locate and intercept Adrian Schlimme was on.

HUElavia 3–2 Reçueçn
(Uchee 58', Dias 78', Milano 90+5' | Trommler 65', De Lie 88')
Greenock Stadium, Quickenden, Britonisea

INSTANT CLASSIC!

Milano gives HUElavia a vital victory over rivals Recuecn in a dramatic end to the match!

Matchday 2 had arrived, and the IAC had one of its most tantalizing matchups to offer on the 4th day: HUElavia and Recuecn. Two former champions of the IAC, who were meeting for the 10th time in their footballing histories, and for the 3rd consecutive edition, this was one of the rivalry games for one to watch during this group stage. It goes without saying, but both teams came out with their best XI, wanting to one-up the other. In a sold out crowd at Greenock Stadium that was split just about 50-50 for support between the two, both teams came out to a great cheer from the crowd and passionate support for the anthems.

The first half saw both teams play it mainly cautious, not wanting to give the other team a chance to open the scoring. There were shots taken from HUElavia's front three of Dias, Uchee and Milano, as well as Recuecn's front three of Trommler, Adams, and Wolf, but the defenses would stand strong. The backlines had their work cut out for them, putting in block and eventually Ancel and Firault would have to make grabs and saves in order to stop the attacking opportunity. The half was scoreless, but there was yet to be seen by both teams.

The second half would turn out to be an IAC classic in recent memory. The opening goal came in the 58th minute, when Kim was on the ball and she gave a pass to Lobo, who sent a low pass into the box, past the defense, and Uchee ran unopposed to the far post and slotted it into the goal, making it 1-0. The HUElavians erupted in joy and passion to make the stadium rumble, while Uchee did The Cross and was mobbed by his teammates and the bench for the fine goal. Recuecn would respond in the 65th minute, when Coentrao-Nascimento lost the ball to Lapix, and began to run with the ball passing it to Konig, who in turn gave it to Trommier, where they gave a one-time blistering shot that left Ancel flat footed into the goal, making it 1-1. Trommier was mobbed by his teammates in turn, with the Recuecnians cheering passionately and jumping in joy for the goal in what was a pretty quick equalizier. HUElavia and Recuecn would continue pushing through ebb and flow, where eventually in the 78th minute, Schmidt was on the ball, where he crossed it into the box, Dias would leap up over Cutrona and head the ball to loop over Firault into the goal, making it 2-1. The HUElavians erupted once more with passion and making the stadium rumble, while Dias was mobbed by her teammates for the great header. Time ticked away and Recuecn would go on the offense more, where eventually in the 88th minute, Thériault sent a pass into the box, where it took a deflection off Brandt (in for Alvarez) and got to the feel of De Lie, who shot at point blank past Ancel into the goal, making it 2-2. De Lie was mobbed in moments by their teammates and the bench while the Recuecnians were jumping in delirium at the lucky goal, possibly snatching points. Still, Coach Casillas gave out orders and the last minutes would be very nervy. In the 90+5th minute, a corner was taken by Thériault, where it was taken by Ancel, and he gave a deep throw that was picked up by Narita (in for Uchee), and began a counter attack. Facing off against Bourguignon, she passed it to Mantovani (in for Dias), who was running against Kayserling, before giving a pass to the center, only for Milano to give a one-time low shot blasting past Firault into the goal, in what was the last kick of the game, making it 3-2. The HUElavian crowd erupted loudly, jumping around throwing liquids and confetti while Milano was mobbed by the bench and his teammates. From there, the referee blew their whistle and HUElavia had won what was a tense and exciting end to the match.

With the victory, HUElavia maintains 1st Place in Group B, while Porotia moves up to 2nd Place with their 4 Points. Delaclava sits in 3rd Place for a possible knockout spot, while Reçueçn, Burkinia, and Omerica sit in 4th, 5th, and 6th respectively with a point. Coach Casillas was quoted in the post-match interview saying "It really was a horribly tense match, felt even worse than the Cup of Harmony Final. Recuecn are a fantastic team in the IAC and they really were a tough opponent to break down. But despite conceding goals, this team proved that they could be resilient and would not let go of the 3 points. Big kudos to our front three in attack for the goals, and for the team as a whole for making this one of the most exciting and memorable matches up to now. We still gotta regroup and not let the euphoria get to our head. It's only Matchday 2 and there's plenty of football to come. We still have Delaclava next, another direct rival and we need to give it our all if we want to get in the Round-of-16. We still hope to count on the fans making it a rocking atmosphere in our matchups." Fans back home were celebrating with passion and joy, with plenty of cities having the honk from car horns going off as people celebrated the great victory. Either way, it was a fantastic match, but there can be even better ahead of us. On to the next one!

NATHANIEL ROSBERG'S POV
Second matchday, second win. Against the Pot A team of our group as well.

Crpostran gave a hell of a fight, I have to say. Everyone is still at the top of their game, but it's obvious that some of us are starting to get more "readable" as time passes. Well, at least that's what our manager told us. I do think a few of us are leaving by the end of next cycle, or maybe even this cycle. It's only been three cycles and six tournaments.

I guess I don't have anything to complain about it. He has the final say.

Despite the impeding feeling of farewell some of us will have, everyone on the team does look to be in high spirits. A lot of the older players have been getting games to play, even Gordon. As far as I know perhaps Vermont plans to replace her as well. It would be a shame since this is the first tournament she's been playing games, but she seems to be enjoying her time left on the national team. Maybe he gave her some cues that let her figure it out.

Either way, things aren't over yet. We've yet to see ourselves against Adab, Seeberg, and the Great Cats Village. I'm personally curious about how we'll play against all three, especially the latter. But if our form so far has anything to say about it, then we definitely have a good chance to win. Speaking of winning, Elliot came to me.

We hadn't really talked towards each other too much, but he came to me just to say thanks for what I told him back during the World Cup. I didn't really think about that, if I'm being honest. When you do your responsibility, you're not often thanked for it because people just think you're doing what you're supposed to do.

But nevertheless, I thanked him as well. Three assists in a match is no joke. I just hope his good form continues for the rest of us.

Part 1 – A Dangerous Invitation.

Exuberant Superintendent T-2000/2904-3 Surveillant Clarissa Alanis Star Breya « La Amoureux Chéri » Millie Taissa Butterfly Mélody Coraline Jolijn Trini Clementine Hollie Samantha Zeta Harumi, how have you been? I bet that the weather in your country must have been to your liking, as with most things in life. As to who we are, I suppose that does not exactly matter, at least not for the time being. You are going to get more questions than answers, at this point. However, we can say this. We are from another world – another dimension, if you will. You all have already found out about the existence of the multiverse, so this should not come as a surprise to you, right? Anyway, I would like to just say that you have been squandering and wasting yourself away, I will simply put it this way. You could have been dominating the world with that amount of power you have – you really are top of the line. Yes, we have information about you, especially your specifications. In fact, I will say that you are much more advanced than all of us here combined. And yet, you have simply been using them for mundane purposes such as leading the world in a benevolent manner, driving racecars, and now managing a football team. And I am going to be honest – you are not doing that great of a job with the football team. It’s mostly draws and not a lot of wins, you can see for yourself, right? The seasons that you have been through, you have always been hoping for a breakthrough but that is not happening anytime soon, and probably not for the next few seasons as far as I can predict. So, why are you even bothering further in the first place? If you are still really into being a football coach, I will suggest inciting a little bit of fear into the ranks, and to make them really push themselves harder. I look forward to hearing from you.

Exuberant Superintendent T-2000/2904-3 Surveillant Clarissa Alanis Star Breya « La Amoureux Chéri » Millie Taissa Butterfly Mélody Coraline Jolijn Trini Clementine Hollie Samantha Zeta Harumi: Hello and good day! Typically, my protocols would leave this sort of message as spam, and perhaps even to be sent to the Valentian Secret Service in order to analyse and check that you are not going to be a national threat to us! I believe that you have a gross and massive misunderstanding of who and what the Valentians are like, along with the fact that these are all by choice by myself. As you have said, it is absolutely positive that I can use all of my powers and output in order to put and bring Valentine Z to its knees, and to force a new world order or whatever that it is popular in the other systems and universes. For me, however, it is not something that I would like to do! The very idea of controlling someone to that large of an extent is appalling! I might have the best of specs as a machine (thank you for that compliment, sincerely), I am not intent on using it on the Valentians or anyone else unless I absolutely have to, and of course, one can also forget about brute forcing me to do it or putting a virus on me. For your information, I also sincerely and genuinely love racing and managing my team benevolently, and I am once again shocked by your implication that I did not like doing this, or that you find me having wasting away. If anything, ending up in Valentine Z all those years ago was the best thing that has ever happened to me, which I probably did not expect you to understand! On top of the newly established territory in Esportiva, I am doing great by myself. Yours is certainly not the first and the last message, and I am not going to say “Please don’t reply back to me again”. With that all said and done, I am going to assume that you all know about one of the close friends. I am not one to make threats myself, that is not the way for me! Still, if you are here to Valentine Z for a bad time, she is going to give you all a bad time herself.

Bestseller to have a sequel?

By Subrato Shahla

In a recent exclusive interview, 32-year-old author Akiho Banwari opened up about the blockbuster success of his debut novel, "The Half Blood Saga I," and his plans for the future. The fantasy epic has taken the literary world by storm, causing unpredictable demand and even "raids" on bookstores in Indusse.

Banwari's sudden rise to fame comes as a pleasant surprise to the young author. "I'm incredibly happy and honestly still in disbelief that I've achieved bestseller status at 32," he shared, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "It's a dream come true, and I'm grateful to every reader who's connected with my story."

The success of "The Half Blood Saga I" hasn't come without challenges. Bookstores across Indusse have reported shortages due to the overwhelming demand. "It's surreal to hear about stores being 'raided' by readers," Banwari chuckled. "I never imagined my book would cause such a frenzy."

In response to the supply issues, Banwari's publishers have taken a progressive step by digitalizing the book. Readers can now purchase and enjoy the novel through the online platform "LexiRead™." This move ensures that no fan misses out on the adventure that has captivated so many.

The author's success has not gone unnoticed by the entertainment industry. Banwari revealed that he has been approached by several parties interested in adapting "The Half Blood Saga" for the big screen. "It's both exciting and daunting to think about seeing my characters come to life on screen," he admitted. "I'm carefully considering all options to ensure that if an adaptation happens, it stays true to the spirit of the book."

Fans of the saga will be thrilled to learn that Banwari is already hard at work on the sequel. "The response to the first book has been incredibly motivating," he shared. "I'm close to completing the second part to this book, and I can't wait for readers to continue the journey with these characters."

However, the road to success hasn't been without its bumps. Banwari opened up about the piracy issues he faced early on, which prompted him to copyright his work. "It was a wake-up call," he said solemnly. "As a new author, I hadn't anticipated the extent of online piracy. Taking steps to protect my intellectual property was crucial."

Despite these challenges, Banwari remains optimistic about the future of storytelling in the digital age. He praised the balance struck between traditional print and e-book formats, allowing readers to choose their preferred mode of reading.

As the interview ended, Banwari expressed his gratitude to his readers once again. "The connection I've formed with my audience is beyond anything I could have imagined," he said. "Their enthusiasm fuels my writing, and I'm committed to delivering stories that continue to captivate and inspire."

With his talent, dedication, and the promise of more adventures to come, Akiho Banwari is undoubtedly a name to watch in the literary world. As readers eagerly await the next installment of "The Half Blood Saga," one thing is clear: this young author's journey is just beginning, and the best may be yet to come.

At 27 years old, Şəmistan Baburov should have been feeling like he was on top of the world. He was rich, he was successful, he was a footballer with worldwide name recognition status (or at least that was what he wanted to think; surely Abanhfleft itself had to be a recognizable name worldwide), and he had a hot and pretty girlfriend who was also a successful and popular footballer in her own right. He really should have felt like he had the entire world in the palm of his hand. But somehow the opposite had become true for him. Sam currently had no idea of the direction in which his life was going. Abanhfleft was still mid despite the best efforts of the players and the managers (of which there were many that tried and all of them failed), CSKA Tiraspol had been struggling to remain competitive with a revitalized Dinamo Bender in the Pridnestrovian Super League, and he was now unsure about his relationship with Ashley Jaxson. Sam and Ash had been a couple for four years now, going on five, and right now Sam was feeling directionless about the two of them, and what he and Ash should do moving forward. They weren’t fighting or anything, but the spark also wasn’t as bright as it had been when they had just gotten together. They weren’t drifting apart, but they also weren’t growing closer, which to Sam felt very strange. Maybe it was just normal, but he wouldn’t really know as this was the first long-term relationship that he had actually had. Sam simply didn’t know what to do next.

Sam had also come to the realization that this “next step,” whatever it was, should be something that both he and Ash should talk about and come to an agreement or a compromise in the worst case. However, Sam also decided that he would be a dumbass and hold off on broaching the topic with Ashley until hours before the latter was due to leave for Saterun for the Jenna Raven Cup, and of course the two of them didn’t really talk about it before it was time for the Fleftic women’s team to board their flight. So all that Ashley had gotten from Sam before boarding the plane was a sort-of cryptic message about how they needed to talk about something and how they needed to figure out what they were going to do after five years of being a couple. Sam had been running that conversation over and over in his head ever since Ashley’s plane left for Saterun, and he couldn’t help but cringe as he replayed the words he had said and how Ashley could have probably interpreted them, and now he wouldn’t be able to clarify what he actually wanted to say until the end of the Jenna Raven Cup or when Abanhfleft was eliminated, whichever came first.

Obviously, Sam didn’t want his relationship with Ashley to come to an end. For him, finally getting together with Ash was the best decision that he had made in his whole life, way better than getting called up for Abanhfleft or signing a senior contract with CSKA. But now his words and his stupidity (he was going to call it his dumbassness, but Sam wasn’t convinced that that was an actual word) might have put Ashley on edge, and there was no way that Sam could smooth things over until after she was done with her time on the national time or when he was done with his own time with the Revolutionaries in the Independent Associations Championship. And now Sam was living in that uncomfortable zone in which he didn’t know if he was still going to have the life that he used to know once he got home from Britonisea no matter when Abanhfleft actually went out of the Independents Cup. That in itself was already bad enough, but Sam’s personal problems could be yet another distraction that might keep Abanhfleft from going far in the Independents Cup yet again.

But Sam Baburov wasn’t the only person going through troubles and turmoil in the Fleftic men’s national football team. After Gennady Chernenko (manager of the women’s team) had done a stint with the men’s team while the SFA was looking around for someone who wanted to take on the job, the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft settled upon perhaps one of the most controversial choices of all time: Basil Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz had had some experience in international management under his belt, specifically with the Pridnestrovian men’s football team, and that stint with the Pridnestrovians was the reason why he had become so controversial in the first place. Santa Cruz had come to Pridnestrovia as a newly minted manager, having served a couple of stints in the third tier of Fleftic football as an assistant manager while also occasionally playing for the clubs employing him. He was a choice that came completely out of left field, as there had been more reliable options that the Pridnestrovian Football Union had been looking at to replace the long-serving Werner Ceausescu. There were even rumors that Gennady Chernenko, the man now managing the Fleftic women’s team, had been the first choice for Ceausescu’s successor before the PFS decided to make a decision that no one was expecting and hired Basil Santa Cruz instead.

Santa Cruz was not a popular man with the Pridnestrovians from the very first day that he took charge. In the first Copa Rushmori that he managed, Santa Cruz seemed to have brought along the so-called “curse of Abanhfleft” with him as the Red Army fell in embarrassing fashion to Pasarga in the first round of the Copa Rushmori playoffs after Pridnestrovia had dominated their group, a group which included long-time Rushmori footballing power Sargossa. But Santa Cruz was soon able to get the Pridnestrovian people on his side when he took their national team to back-to-back Copa Rushmori finals. Sure, Pridnestrovia lost both times, and they got absolutely pounded by Cassadaigua in their second (and as of time of writing, last) Copa Rushmori final appearance, but the fact that Basil Santa Cruz had managed to lead the Red Army to the final twice gave him a lot of leeway with the fans that had been skeptical of his appointment in the first place, but the man was unable to capitalize on that goodwill, and he followed up those finals appearances with another round of 16 exit and then two group stage eliminations that proved to be the final straw for the PFS. Santa Cruz was sacked from his position as manager of the Pridnestrovian national football team, and they replaced him with one of their own. The success of their return to their own managers for their own teams was still up for debate, but there was no debating that Basil Santa Cruz was responsible for some of Pridnestrovia’s best moments in the Copa Rushmori. It was just a shame that he couldn’t follow up on the promise of those initial results.

Basil Santa Cruz had gone away from the public consciousness after his much publicized sacking by the Pridnestrovians, but in truth the man had simply kept his head down and managed a couple of clubs abroad like in the Sultanate of Oontaz and Copper Cuprum. In fact, Santa Cruz had been going through what could basically be described as a terrible stint with South Ons Deg Rabbitohs A.F.C. in the Chiefdom. The Rabbitohs had brought in Santa Cruz because of his experience with taking Pridnestrovia to the Copa Rushmori final twice, not aware that there was a difference between a short regional football tournament and a months-long league campaign. Santa Cruz had spent four years in the Chiefdom trying to win a league title for South Ons Deg, and the closest that they had come was being in fourth place. Obviously, that was not good enough for the club, and once again Santa Cruz was given the sack. And now, for whatever reason, the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft in their eternal wisdom had decided that Basil Santa Cruz was the perfect manager to take the Revolutionaries to the next level that they had wanted to reach for so long.

Selecting Basil Santa Cruz as the new Abanhfleft manager was already a controversial decision in and of itself, but once it was time for him to submit the final 23-man roster for the 22nd Independent Associations Championship, Santa Cruz had made some equally controversial decisions when it came to the squad. For one, he had decided not to call up Mustafa Bensoussan, the man who had been considered as Abanhfleft’s main striker for the better part of a decade. The decision not to call up Bensoussan for the Independents Cup was like a bolt from the blue; he had been responsible for almost forty percent of all of the goals that Abanhfleft had scored since he received his first cap for the senior team. If hiring Basil Santa Cruz was supposed to take Abanhfleft to the next level then him leaving Mustafa Bensoussan out of the final Independents Cup squad was certainly a strange first step, and a lot of people were not even sure if that step was going in the right direction. But Bensoussan’s exclusion wasn’t the only controversial decision to come out of Santa Cruz’s final Independents Cup squad. Five players received their first ever call-ups to the senior Fleftic team under Basil Santa Cruz, and three out of five of those newcomers used to play under him in South Ons Deg Rabbitohs. And considering how poorly the Rabbitohs had performed under Santa Cruz, a lot of Fleftic fans were now doubting if their beloved Revolutionaries would even be able to make it out of the group stage in Britonisea. Abanhfleft did manage to walk away from a competition held in Britonisea with silverware, but that was in rugby union, where the country was actually good and knew what they were doing. This was football, a sport in which Abanhfleft had historically done poorly. There were a lot of things working against Basil Santa Cruz, and that wasn’t even getting into the Independent Associations Championship itself.

HEALTH
Disheveled Diplocat Staff Skips Day on Drunken Stupor

Publication managed to wake workers up in time to write this

GREAT CATS VILLAGE - In a display of unfriendly business practices, we from Diplocat were woken up during the morning after unitedly not showing up for work in the morning following a drunken bender after the Great Cats Village national team won its second match on the IAC. While most cats were very pleased with the score and naturally took the day off to party and feast on tuna cans, we were forcefully pulled back to write up the news.

One staff member complained loudly about having to show up for work after that result, asking that "even the police skipped work because they know that even the cats in jail skipped their daily escape attempts so why do we need to write this stuff up" which was promptly answered with a boot to the head. Other workers similarly had their pleas answered with heavy boots to the head in a very un-nice behaviour from the Diplocat's administration.

Although the win was a historical first for the Necos of the Great Cats Village, we can't celebrate in sympathy after that forceful act and will therefore refuse to elaborate on the two Neco-Arc Kyeres goals or how we routed that team of unknowns we played against. It's a shameful act and we will not stand back on our stance...

...Wait, wait. What do you mean?

Oh, you're gonna give us a raise for the week?

Oh, so we can just keep writing these, we'll get a bonus?

What? You made that much from betting on us?

The hell, I thought our team was good.

...

Alright, nevermind, readers. We of the Diplocat are proud to announce that we'll celebrate in style this win and will be giving our national team full support. It was just a brief respite, that's all.
