OOC: Quickly noting that there are three dillemmas that could emerge out of it, all because of the interlocking interests of those surrounding the ever-famous Heo family of Quebecois basketball and baseball legend.

One is that of multi-club ownership that would be challenged when the owners, under the joint H&N Group, would try to secure bid for the Songak Praetorian (not-Guardian, obviously). Second would be one of the members, that being Montesierra, facing roadblocks to initially shoot and later produce a certain Blockbuster by the name of Barbenheimer in Ruland, right in middle of the Great War of Farfadillis. Those two are fairly easy to manoeuvre, with the first one being re-organised by the Lautners selling multiple clubs in favour of a RFL franchise, and the Sierra-Heos and the Jis, who are distant cousins, self-introducing measures to limit interaction between Q-League clubs Perce Town and Montreal City.

Then the third would be additional manoeuvring Dr. Heo himself would have to do to ease the process for the first, which is now at the roadblocks for the production part. The filming has managed to get through on let's say undercover operations, but still the roadblocks exist for the reasons that Philippe, the younger brother of Christine II, is also a member of Banijan royalty through marriage. Dr. Heo, being in an unique and yet complicated situation, has to manoeuvre his way through this roadblock, and that of his own pupil, Jang Joon-Gweon (see the last two seasons before this, which Cass was able to read at various points incl. WBC-57). How will he sweeten the pot, and to what extent? Let's find out.

The Social Seasons of Shin-goryeo

Part 21 - Jongmyo Jerye - Dr. Heo

'You always have the penchant to bring me in the most inconvenient of occasions, don't you?' Pierre looked back at Dr. Heo, with their hands holding their hat to the very chest, as they watched the initial hour of the Jongmyo Jerye (traditional rites) on the initial, curtained off row of the Jongmyo Shrine's hallway. Pierre tried his best to indicate his endurance in surviving through the occasion, his eyes and shoulders full of tensions that he would not be feeling elsewhere. No, not even at the Olympic Council sessions. 'Unlike you, I do not always have the time to listen to this for hours.'

The Jongmyo Jerye itself was always an ordeal. The ceremonies themselves had three parts to it - the Purification, the Entertainment, and the Send-off of Ancestral Deities - and were rigidly observed with no less than a dozen steps in each component flipped or changed. The Main Courtyard of the Shrine itself, usually open with visitors able to walk across and over the pavement, were currently filled with no less than hundred court musicians and dancers. While Quebec and Shingoryeo had been open towards Commonwealth or other foreign nationals in most aspects of the society, which included that of the courts (this was a bit more complicated story), this part of the Shingoryeoite society was considered to be the most difficult for the people.

'If I were you, I would not be the one to complain,' Dr. Heo answered, more amused than angered in his tone of voice. 'Wasn't it the Jolbonopolis Organising Committee that had agreed to bring back Summer Vigil Fasting as an Olympic demonstration event?' This part was true - nobody exactly knew why, or rather how, the decision to bring back the Summer Vigil Fasting, the traditional twenty-day event that was first held in the Games of the III Olympiad in Columbia, Commerce Heights, was made.

Most had only gotten over it due to the remarkable sense of competence shown by Pierre, whose history as high-profile adminstrator on both wrestling and the Olympics circuit were renowned, and his deputy, Arianna Ceciliani, but in this day and age where increased safety and accessibility to the Olympic Games are preferred by many of the traditional powers, it was an odd choice. Even odder when considering the efforts taken by Pierre, Arianna and the past two Governments to arrange the return of Kytlerian sports teams, in particular the Olympic delegation, to international competition.

'Yes, but please think of everything else. There are other matters in hand that I have had to assist you and the Daemyeonggoong Palace in the recent years, and this you cannot deny how much of the hassles the ropes had to be taken,' said Pierre, reminding Dr. Heo of the latest saga involving that of Marco Hertel, when he and his privateering army, Marco's Slaves, had successfully invaded Puerto Farolero in an overnight operation. While most had condemned Hertel, a former Grim Reapers' legend, two-time Champions' League winner, and not to mention the Primary Owner of the PlayToy Media Group, for his warmongering actions, the public sentiment towards the Great War of Farfadillis had remained particularly pro-Rulandese in manners that left nobody winners - whether it be RQFA, The Bubonic Plague, or even the Government for inaction.

'The Palace had requested the RQOC and the Foreign Office additional measures be taken specifically regarding certain individuals. Even as explicit as reminder to Mr. Hertel that each his stay in the mainland will only last up to fifteen days, and under limited circumstances. He knows the risk and has agreed to it,' Pierre said.

'And in that I'm on my knees with gratitude,' came Dr. Heo's answer. Dr. Heo's words felt sharper, even more so with the slower tempo of his reply, but also because of how proximate they were with the distance to the Queen and the Members of the Royal Household, most of whom were in attendance holding the ceremony. While not one holding direct position to the Daemyeonggoong Palace himself, knew the power he held, both as the former professor and advisor to the Christine II when she was still a princess, a good friend of the late Jacques IX, and recent custodian of Henri 'The Decisive' VIII's legacies as a liberal thinker separate from his legacies. 'Now let me propose you what I have in mind for Jang Joon-Gweon.'

'I'm sure Jang's security files could be addressed,' Pierre nodded. To the background they could hear the piercing sound of the musicians, who had an outer group of ensembles and the senior, presiding officers on the inside circle. 'As Arsene or a certain Charteris (Thierry Charteris was the former head of the RQIS -e.d.-) may have mentioned this before, it is where him not having his father's name in the birth certificate, or him living most of his time in the Bel-Havre Island, may help.' He then swallowed his spit, before resuming to speak. 'That said...'

'That said?' Dr. Heo asked.

'It is out of my or Arsene's jurisdiction. The specific decision to keep the families of those involved in the 2038 Plot under specific conditions were signed by Thierry Saganash (former Prime Minister, the last long-ruling one from Jacques IX era), Hebert (Jeanne Hebert, Charteris's predecessor) and the late King. Only Saganash is still alive, and to appeal it, it is likely that Jang will have to personally appeal to the Queen herself.'

'This is preposterous, Pierre,' said Dr. Heo in amazement.

Pierre nodded. He himself knew how unfair this measure had been to Jang, and how this implicitly hit the nerves of great a many in the cricket community, whose headperson also happened to be one under such restrictions. 'It indeed is preposterous, and that's why I agree with you that we cannot let your student, who also happens to be the finest cricketer the country has at this point in time, to be held back by those security restrictions. What would that speak for His Royal Highness not being allowed to marry a woman of his choice, under the late King's will, or Jang being denied of such?'

'Prince Laurent, who is famously not here at this point, is still years away from his wishes and I'm sure you know why,' said Dr. Heo, before stopping short of additional reminders. Pierre definitely knew the reasons behind why - those in line of succession after Jacques IX's three children were that of Laurent's, and the squabbles between the two princes Jacques and Laurent were known well enough in the 2030s. What Pierre did not know, however, was the possibility of what may happen in decades long past, into the generations of Jang's children, but even those Dr. Heo himself did not delve further in fear of re-aggravating the consequences of what she had seen before. 'But Jang, I vouch for not as my student, but as close to being a guardian as I could be. And the Prince of Abitibi himself looks up to him, so let's say that whatever it takes to clear his name, could end up doing you or others bigger favour than whatever that we owe you.'

'Then what is there to worry over?' Pierre asked. The music continued to ring into the crowd. 'I am sure that if Jang, and a certain Ms. Moran, are able to appeal their case of love to each other to the Queen, then what is there to worry about?'

Thorne I

Postby Drawkland » Mon Dec 04, 2023 12:14 am

The secret was out on Basil Thorne.

The apparent basketball phenom had grown up in the backwoods of Drawkland, attending a rural high school known as Reese County in the county of the same name. Thorne had rarely played basketball, until he was required to in his gym class junior year. It turned out that he was freakishly good, much to the surprise of the twelve other kids in the class (Reese County wasn't very big). The gym teacher, who was also the basketball coach, football coach, study hall monitor, and bus driver (mornings only), was astounded. Thorne was hitting shots from all over the court, with almost no effort.

At first it was chalked to beginner's luck, but Basil Thorne continued to impress, until eventually coach Clyde Jensen decided he had to get Thorne onto the school's basketball team. No dice. Thorne was already planning to miss a month of school at the beginning of the year to go ice fishing with his uncles in the mountains, there's no way he'd be able to play that season. Coach Jensen initially wondered how Thorne could possibly afford to miss a quarter of the semester without being expelled, and then he realized that one of Basil's uncles was in fact the school principal.

Coach Jensen kicked himself as he watched his basketball team trudge to a 3-22 record that season, wishing he could have Thorne's skill on the hardcourt. That summer between Basil's junior and senior year, Jensen tried talking to the principal himself.

"Hey, Chuck, how've you been lately?"

"Not bad, Clyde, not bad. What can I do ya for?"

"Well, I've been wonderin' about your nephew. Basil, to be precise."

"Ah yeah, Basil's a good kid. Looks just like his pops. Seen his facial hair start to grow in like it, too."

"Damn straight." Coach Jensen leaned forward in his chair a little bit. "Listen, Chuck, I was wonderin' if you could help me out a little bit. See, our basketball team didn't do too hot this season."

"Uh huh."

"Right, and I noticed in gym class last year that Basil was showin' quite a knack on the court. He's a real natural out there."

"Is that so?"

"Mhmm. Divine as my witness, sir. I asked Basil if he'd be wantin' to join the team, but he wasn't interested, on account of your fishing trip. He didn't seem too excited about the prospect either. I mean, I don't want to push the boy to do somethin' he ain't interested in, but I feel it's a real waste of talent. No exaggeration, he's the best player I've ever seen with my own eyes."

"No shit?"

"Not shittin' you, sir. I was hopin' you could maybe talk some sense into the kid. He could give it a try on the team this year. He's a senior anyhow, so if it doesn't go well, no harm done, he'll be graduatin' soon enough."

"Well, he may not graduate given his academic record!" the principal laughed, probably a little too loudly. "Seriously though, I'll see what I can do."

Sure enough, Principal Thorne had a little talking-to with his nephew, explaining that he could really apply himself and maybe make some new friends on the team to go shooting with in the summer. Basil was still a little leery of the idea, but he figured it wouldn't hurt.

Basil proceeded to tear up the courts that season, pulling an otherwise dogass Reese County squad to their first-ever 20-win regular season. He accidentally caught the eye of scout Willis Doyle, who spilled the beans to the entire basketball scouting world. There was some sort of wunderkind in the boonies of Drawkland, and college recruiters in the area were desperate to get a piece of him.

Courting Basil would not be that easy, though. His family had no telephone, and though the recruiting letters made it to the destination, none of them were taken seriously. Also, there was a legitimate concern that nobody in the Thorne household was able to actually read the letters all the way through.

Most coaches and athletic directors just shrugged and figured that would be the end of it. So what, some hick kid had some good games in high school ball? The reports are probably overblown. There's no way anybody would be worth all that trouble. For a small handful of colleges, though, they continued the hunt. And maybe that's something Basil himself could respect.

MATCHDAY 4.

Image

The Shingoryeoites knew that in the Empire of Kanmer, winters are cold and snowy, and Kanmerins are feeling totally fine in the cold weather. Because of that, they decided to have a match against the Imperial team in the city of Iqaluit, when winters are even cooler than in Kanmer.

The players were feeling calm before the match, after the long-awaited first victory on this tournament. Earlier on Saturday, a few of them (but not many)of them even wanted to drink a little bit of alcohol, to celebrate the positive outcome of the match against Semoro. But Rindeslau Wrinder, the main coach, strictly prohibited it and drank everything by himself, saying that the players must hardly concentrate on the following games that would be crucial for the team. But, he also said that he would allow them to drink a bit if they could bring a sensational victory over Quebec and Shingoryeo, to motivate them harder. But only a little bit, to not ruin everything.

Despite facing the top-ranked team, the players and coaching staff were not even worrying about that. They already had similar situations before. They already played in a foreign country, played in the cold weather, played against 8 feet tall men, played on the big stadiums even in Kanmer, already suffered harsh defeats being 30 points behind and being one of the worst teams of the tournament on some stages. They didn' t fear their opponent who was a no.1 in the international ranking, cause, as the fans sung on matchday 3, the Kanmerin team is shit and players turned into a shit. So, there was no difference between the 11th (Drawkland, which they played on a day 1) and the 1st strongest team as Kanmer still has not so many chances to win against both of them.

Without worrying, the Imperial Basketball team stepped into Leonora Bertram Arena, and the game began. And very unexpectedly, Kanmer started strongly, being ahead by 2 points with the 9-7 score in the middle of a first quarter. Unfortunately, they failed to hold this advantage and lost the first quarter by 1 point, but still the fact that the Imperial Basketball team and the team of Quebec and Shingoryeo played as equals, is very imperssive. Their fight continued in the second quarter which also was almost equal, that time being lost by 2 points.

The athletes were definitely powered up and felt all the force and temp of the game. Their faith in themselves finally grew. They started to believe in themselves. They discovered that they could make impossible things possible. Or just to calmly accept all the troubles and stop focusing on them so much, making new stories instead. It was totally a different team then the one which suffered a humiliating defeat against Kronbia on matchday 2.

This team, definitely, looked more like an Olympic team which finished their group with 3-0 result. Yes, it is also good to remind that the Olympic basketball competition also was held in Quebec and Shingoryeo, so, even being in the different city that time, the Imperial Basketball team were not feeling themselves as a pure strangers.
Returning to the matchday 4, the team was totally energized and motivated like it's still the first quarter. Everything in them just screamed "We can do this!". And in the halftime, the playes just couldn't wait to return on the field, just not to waste this motivation.

And they made it! The Imperial Basketball team won the third quarter of the match against Quebec and Shingoryeo by 3 points, and made the score equal. Everything was ready to achieve a sensational result after all those hard and painful work. Players believed in themselves and played as hard as they could, they had everything...

Except the pure skill. It is worth to remind that it was a game of the no. 1 of the ranking against the unranked debutant. And, of course, Quebec and Shingoryeo was more skillful then Kanmer. Moreover, they had more stamina, while players of the Imperial Basketball team got tired in the fourth quarter after all hard work. And everything went down. The fourth quarter, together with the entire game, was lost by 8 points. Still, it was a glorious performance, as the Imperial team have not easily crumbled and fought almost untill the end.

The Imperial team is still in the fight for the third place, even after Muralos defeated Kronbia. Kanmer just need to defeat Muralos in the next matchday to be still in and probably secure 4th place, but sadly, they could still stay 5th, as Kronbia faces unranked Semoro on that matchday. But even if Semoro will lose, and Kanmer will win, three teams will have the score 2-2, and it will still be everyone's game.

Mercatoren makes a name for itself

The ambitious territory has grand aspirations of becoming a prominent player among the many territories of the Constellation. In terms of size and population, it's on the large side compared to most Constellation territories, but its 5 million souls barely compares to Ko-oren's thirty-eight million. Despite its modest size, the territory envisions a future shaped by and for itself via its businesses, ethic, and culture, seeking to replicate the success stories of efficient city states, and even give Ko-oren a run for its money in terms of financial and economic power within the group. Its leaders continue on the path set out for the territory long ago, creating a dynamic business landscape based on its population's enterprenurial spirit and a healthy dose of foreign investment, which it happily reciprocates where possible.

Accusations of Ko-oren's intentions in the Constellation aside, Mercatoren is also rapidly attatching its name to many a bombastic dictator's prestige project - money is often readily available for those. The territory's poor tracking of what its funds are used for has attracted attention by the Constellation's and Ko-oren's ethics committees, but Mercatoren's Investment Office hasn't been forthcoming with details or procedures.

At the same time, it's looking to attract business and tourism with a striking cultural identity, something that inspires locals and appeals to visitors. A vibrant yet underfunded arts scene is starting to become visible on Mercatoren's streets - though it's hard to see where the advertisements end and the art starts. At the same time, sports are another important cultural outlet, tying people down to their hometowns - but also an important source of consumption and spending.

Where the Constellation's efforts were pushed by Ko-oren early on, with territories like Irithoren, Arhoren, and Synephoren finding their place, the group is now starting to get dominated by larger, more economically powerful places like Mercatoren, Ndugutisaoren, and Cang Prathoren - will the Constellation resist the call of the get-rich-quick scheme and push for lasting, systematic improvements in its member states where some have accused exactly the three mentioned of sourcing cheap labour in the Constellation's worse off territories?

Irithoren issues formal complaint about naming

The government of Irithoren has issued a formal complaint with the Constellation's naming system, which consistently refers to all member states in their Gehrennan names, meaning that all end in the suffix -oren while Gehrennan is not spoken outside of Ko-oren, which for the purposes of the Constellation is simply another member state. It instills a colonial mindset, the Irithoreni claim, and demand to be named (Al-)Irith in official communication from now on.

The matter comes on the back of several international questions, wondering whether every part of the Constellation indeed ends in -oren, and while some territories have not complained too loudly given the incentives, others feel empowered enough to bring it up, especially as Ko-oren and the Constellation are gaining traction on the global stage. "Giving the wrong example now might prevent us from ever correcting it in the future", as Irithoren's governor, Zeina Fizairdah, says.

Isidoren's Basketball League starts inaugural season

The now united basketball scene of Isidoren is set to play its first full season. Coming over from several small regional championships, the first overarching, national title race pits some preseason favourites in Santa Catarina and San Xerome against each other, but with the wildly varying formats and timings of the regional tournaments, there's no promising that any team will show up in the Isidoren championship in the same way they tore up their regions.

Isidoren, long joined together but under strong regional governments, is making several moves reminding us of Taloren and its regional arrangements, except here a trend of de-regionalisation has started and is continuing - several services, such as railways, have already been streamlined and readied for national use.

The six constituent regions are all represented in basketball: sparsely populated Cornisa has just the one team, the two inland ex-kingdoms of Alto Trono and Pallars have three despite their far larger populations, while smaller Terra de Xullo, remote and coastal, also has three. Santa Estela and Bizkaialdea are best represented with four and five teams respectively, though Bizkaialdea's population is lower than half of Alto Trono's - yet that is to be corrected in other championships in other sports with more even participation numbers: basketball just happens to be stronger in the two northern provinces (Bizkaialdea and Santa Estela).

Greetings, compatriots!
It’s TTV with a hot news from World Basketball Cup. Fortunately, the news is good again. In the fourth round of the group stage, our lads traveled to Kenosha, located in perhaps the most remote region where the basketball team has ever set foot. “Elephants”, as in absense of official info our fans nicknamed the national team of this country due to the fact that the national symbol of the country is this powerful and dignified creature, will make their debut at the championship this year and right now are in the group of teams vying for second place. No one expected an easy match, and it was not as easy, as the final results may suggest.

The hosts rushed to attack from the first seconds, subjecting our players to a serious test of endurance. The gap in the score immediately was in favor of Kenosha, and gradually grew - although very slowly, but still grew, and reached eight points. It seems, however, that our national leader expected something like this and found an antidote. Seven minutes after the start of the game, the hosts looked completely exhausted, so much strength had been they spend on this assault. At the same time, they are not to achieve a serious gap that would have allowed the match to be calmly brought to victory, even with less energy. Our team acted confidently and calmly, even though the score was not in our favor. It seemed to many, however, that such tactics would not have worked against another, more experienced opponent, but today it turned out the way it did. Quite quickly the score was even, and before the half game break the “elephants” found themselves already catching up, being seven points behind, but they no longer had the strength to catch up even after rest. The second half of the game took place with the complete dominance of our team, and, sharing their impressions after the match, many basketball fans especially noted that the Trolleborg players did not relax, but did not showed off, flaunt technique at the expense of game quality or made the already exhausted athletes of the hosts look like weaklings. And in the end, to the delight of a fairly large army of our fans who followed their idols to this distant land, the basketball players celebrated the victory, scoring a record number of points in the history of the team, as many as 115, but immediately after the end of the game they went to console the losing side.

Meanwhile, our opponents from the previous match, Corporate City 1, made our opponents in the next game, the favorite of the group and the entire tournament, Nova Anglicana, work hard to take a victory, managing to reduce the away match to a draw, and only losing in extra time, with an honorable difference of 4 points. It will be seen, if our team can demonstrate something like this at the last game of group stage. In the third match of the group, Cassadaigua prevailed over HUElavia, its direct competitor at the moment, in a battle, as we say, “for six points”. Right now our basketball team sit first in the group table, but this counted for nothing up to the end of first IBC stage.

DROP IT DOWN!: 4-0 Looks Pretty Good

Postby TJUN-ia » Tue Dec 05, 2023 4:22 pm

After taking down an unranked team with ease, the Hoops-Jaguars of TJUN-ia were 3-0 and looking pretty good in this group as it currently stood. This team has been kicking ass and taking names since the IBC process started and Bao Zhou was certainly happy with his team's efforts so far, but the Road to Cassadaigua has no let-up and this team had to be ready for anything.

Game 4 of our campaign would be on the road at #38 Southwest Eastnorth, who entered this contest 1-2 in the table. As with most games against us, SWEN certainly gave it their best shot against a team like ourselves with one player getting 15 points by themselves and 58 points on the board overall, but that was never going to be enough against us even if we didn't score 90+ points this time. SWEN provided more of a defensive challenge, I will gave them that, but both Samantha Naylor and Chenrop Rueangthanarot still managed 15 points each as we came through with the 78-58 dub. A 20-point win is a 20-point win, no matter the situation surrounding that win.

Four down, six to go...and up next is a bit of history. It's finally time for the Liberty Arena in The Gardens of New Washington to host the watching world. Unranked Britonisea, 3-1 in this group, are coming to town for a game bigger than some might have expected in the preseason. It's a big-time game for the NAU's IBC debut...and we wouldn't have it any other way. GO HOOPS-JAGS!

It was all Joy Knight could do to keep from causing her left fist to make acquaintance with the wall in the Sarzonian national basketball team's dressing room.

She'd given the usual "trap match" speech. She'd made her players do up-downs and laps in training when a player seemed to be going through the motions. She showed video of Maraonia's previous marches. She drilled each player on their respective marks.

"Before the opening tip, I want you to know literally everything there is to know about [Maraonia point guard Alessandro] Zanneti," she told Sarzonia point guard Malik Benton. "His first look off the dribble. How he scans the passing lanes. His defensive positioning. What he eats for breakfast. How he takes his tea. In short, I want you to know Zanneti better than his significant other does."

Benton did his best to stifle am eyeroll, but he wasn't that good at it. Knight glared at him and was determined to make sure Benton found out after he'd effed around.

Benton was on the bench for the first 20 minutes of the contest, finding out that he was suspended for the first half. However, the team found out that it was 20 minutes away from a monumental, embarrassing upset loss as Maraonia led by 11 at the half.

"This is unacceptable!" Knight said in a quiet tone that was even more dangerous than if she'd started screaming. "You're sleepwalking. This isn't Sarzonian basketball! I expect better. The Department expects better. The fans expect way better."

"Benton, I want you to get back out there and show why I picked you to start in the first place."

She would get her wish. Benton scored nine points, grabbed five rebounds and notched six assists in 16 minutes of play, Mike West led all scorers with 26 points, and Sarzonia eventually prevailed 76-72.

The result allowed the Stars to remain atop the Group 7 table as Chromatika stunned Valentine Z 76-71, causing the Angels to embark upon a two-match losing streak after the Stars ended Valentine Z's 22-match group stage win streak. Gatchingerrak Union crushed 88–60 in the other match.

Sarzonia (3-1) may be in the midst of a relatively soft underbelly of their schedule on paper with winless Ralsalin up next and 55th ranked Gatchingerrak Union to follow, but the latter side have won three straight matches after their opening loss to Sarzonia. Plus, the 17th ranked Stars follow that up with the third of three consecutive away battles with a contest against Chromatika. Their first home match after three straight away ties? Valentine Z.

"This is going to be a grind," Knight said. "We're going to have to be ready to go."

Promising Run at IBC

Cassadaigua - Pemecutan basketball team compete in another edition of IBC, International Basketball Championships. It is their 11th participation in the competition. And after a great achievement last edition, the basketball fans surely demands for another great accomplishment from the team. However, manager Putu Ngakan Wiraguna made an unexpected moves this edition where he established a mix gender team for the first time in Pemecutan's IBC participation history.

Following the team's squad announcement, the fans were in shocked and surprised of the line-up. Almost half of the team is filled with female athlete. Is this for real?, write one comment in PBA's official social media account. Many comments are questioning the decisions. And most of them mocking the moves made by the manager, Wiraguna. The anti group compare the team with the previous all-men squad of Pemecutan. If the all-men team never stand a chance in IBC, how can a mixed gender team be survive?, said one comment. That female in the squad is the weak link of the team, said the others. Most of the anti comments are coming from male users. Although there are some supporters but their comments are drown under the more amount of hate comments posted. This is exciting, write one positive comment that we found. On the other hand, head coach Made Dwi Partha defend Manager Wiraguna's decision to includes women's athlete in the squad.
At first, we thought to send two squads. Men's and women's. But then we realize it won't be effective. So we merge the squad into a single mixed gender squad. I believe with the athletes capability and Wiraguna's tactic and strategy. They have proof themselves to reach quarterfinal last edition. It was our best performance. Besides, other countries have done similar way and they have proven that a mixed gender team can be as good as regular men's only or women's only team. So, why do we doubt ourselves? Besides, why can't our women's athletes compete at the same level as our men's athletes?

Made Dwi Partha
Head Coach of Pemecutan Basketball Team

From the time being, Pemecutan men's basketball team have competed regularly in IBC and also in Olympics event. While the women's team have only competed in Olympics event. Despite the pros and cons, the team have proof that they can make a voice in the competition. Finished their fourth match in the group stage, the team had only defeated once. The loss were against Cardenao in the third match where both team played tightly. Only 3 points differentiate their match result. But the test would be in the upcoming fifth match where they will facing group's favorite, Hannasea. The team'c currently lead their group with perfect score from their 4 wins. "I think we can exploit our defense more against Hannasea while stealing the chance to make points," comment Wiraguna. Yes, currently Pemecutan had the lowest points against within their group. It's a proof that the defense strategy is quite perfect. And it can be their weapon to face the more offensive Hannasea.

We lost, but that's okay....

Day four of the International Basketball Championships saw Britonisea lose it's first match though against quite a reputable team. Abanhf...left with no worries about it's abilities after winning against our upstart team, beating them on home soil. Aloquirbe's audience, who stayed up until the very last minute, saw what was a close game end in dispair as Abanhfleft won the last few points and took the victory in a similar fashion to how Britonisea has been winning it's games. There is hope, however, as one couldn't call their win a convincing one, perhaps suggesting that the Britonish team isn't necessarily bad - it just didn't have the edge today. The first loss sees Britonisea now separated from TJUN-ia, pushed down into third place. Britonisea's points difference is still a plus, but now nearly 20 points behind Abanhfleft meaning the latter wins the tie for second place. TJUN-ia will be Britonisea's biggest challenge and will most likely see, fingers crossed we are proven wrong, a win for TJUN-ia (who so far have had a flawless record). Britonisea's goal is to continue what it has been doing throughout the next few matches. With the likes of Lisander and Southwest Eastnorth seemingly not posing any immediate danger, the Britonish boys' task is to stay as close as it can to the top - and perhaps sneakily beat them in their upcoming matches.

Britonisea is currently one of only two nations who has three wins, who are placed third (wink, wink). In the case that Britonisea can't overcome the might of TJUN-ia and Abanhfleft, it still has a chance to qualify as a lucky loser as there are two spots to the best two third-placers. So, as long as Southwest Eastnorth or Lisander don't suddenly wake up, Britonisea does have a good chance of making it to Cassadaigua, a nation that seems to be lowkey obsessed with its royal family - couldn't be us. Though, it would be a new adventure for Britons - they've been to many Rushmore nations before, but not this one. How exciting!

Britons now travel to Liberty Arena in The Gardens, New Washington - with TJUN-ia really understanding the keeping it cute assignment. Located in the NAU Zone, the Liberty Arena is probably the most beautiful arena the IBC qualifiers has to offer. The arena has a capacity of over 20,000 fans and while nearly every single one of them will be against the Britonish team, it would be a great opportunity for the team...to learn to have thicker skin. Who's going to win? We will find out soon...

Part 3 – Fate’s Vacation.

Chief Aviator Gwen Tracer Hepburn “Fate of Existence and the Omniverse” Ellen Trixie Caitlin Foxworthy Avril Verlene Eveline Celinda Sammy Doris T-Rev Oxton Arielle Lindall Leslie Vitesse Allison had a hell of a field day trying her best to look presentable and smiling in front of the large crowds of people and reporters, all of them asking various questions about the Angels and what her opinions were on the latest matches. On the surface, and also since she was still genuinely nice enough, presented an opinion that “Well, that was quite a surprise and a rather welcoming eye-opener! I would say that the Angels, while we try and not to discredit any team members or our opponents, I would say that we got a little too complacent and overly confident. These two matches showed us not to do that. So, with that, perhaps more practices and training for the Angels, for one. And of course, both my respect and my congratulations as always to both the Stars and the Penguins. You genuinely showed the Angels that often times, it’s good to be back on the ground a bit more and more down the Earth, so to speak. Good games, well played.”

The sentiments towards the opponents have not changed. What was changed, however, was what Gwen thought of her players. It was not so much that they were not performing horribly, and the scores are mostly close enough that it was all a heartbreaking defeat. She was thinking about sending all of them on an extended training session, one where they would practice in Valentine Z, and would spend stretch time to such an extent that they would’ve been training for 4 days when in reality only 4 hours would have passed. “Would that technically count as cheating?” she thought in contemplation, wondering if the laws of time and space would also apply in interdimensional sports. “I will take it slowly and easily first then,” opting to go for a 24 hour training session that would last 30 hours. “Like those entrepreneur types that work 25 hours a day, except now it’s a lot more valid!” she chuckled at her own joke, whilst walking with half the despair and disappointment still remaining. The first loss was bad enough, and then came the second one which threw her a bit more over the edge. “Yeah, a vacation, why not. On my terms.”

The training can be done anytime for her, since she could be gone for several thousand years, and yet to the outside observers, only a few seconds might have passed, for instance. All that details about time aside, Gwen went into the portal with nothing but her clothes, her weapons, and naturally, her time control devices and other necessities that gives her all the powers. She stepped into the portal, blue and intense as ever, and then went out the other side onto the exact coordinates of the universe, along with the planet, that she was going for. It was year 2235 on that planet, the entire planet more or less covered in frost as it was currently experiencing another ice age. The planet itself seemed to be Earth, or at least it was similar to it. The geography, along with the people and their cultures, seemed to draw quite a strong parallel to the other Earths and Valentine Z that Gwen has been to. Due to the said ice age that was occurring, it was also natural that there would be a lack of resources for the people on the entire planet, and there would be a war to get the resources. Looking at the situation quickly, and perhaps simply for her amusement and some moment to let off some steam, she decided to make it so that she dropped 4 random soldiers into the role of a spy, inside men tasked with finding out as much as possible while the base is all on alert.

Gerald, Elijah, Lee, and Derrick were not strangers to the technological advancement of the early 23rd Century, as much as the advancement could go before the war needed much more research and development going more into the necessary divisions. Even then, the sight of a tall, slim, and somewhat slender and athletic woman coming out of a portal was too much for them to comprehend, all of them aiming their weapons at her and about to send her off for interrogation. Of course, she just so happened to know what they needed and wanted, and it was more than money itself; they needed the necessities, and she got plenty of them. “Boys, I tell you, it will be much more than what you would get in this frozen wasteland, and this little base that your superiors called a HQ,” she continued on and on, making the rewards several times more worth than their allegiance to the PLA – a People’s Liberation Army that occupied half of Eastern Europe and the entirety of Asia. With lack of subtlety, Gwen gave them the codename “GELD”, and tasked them with infiltrating the archives and going into a war room while everyone was busy.

Derrick never thought that he and the three other guys would be undertaking a deal and a spying mission for a person, no less from another world with promises of warmth and food. “Anywhere to escape from this hellhole of a world, I suppose,” he remarked to himself quietly, lying down on his bed and simply waiting for the inevitable. 15 minutes passed uneventfully but with tension mounting each passing second; what would be the distraction that would make everyone go, he thought to himself. He could go to the other barracks’ rooms and asked the other three but decided not to in fear of getting ousted before the thing even started. Tossing around in his bed, an answer soon came in the form of an alarm, particularly of the highest alert. Everyone were to evacuate away from the HQ and the barracks, and then soon found themselves braving through the -30 C winter and strong winds, weapons and guns all aimed at the nothingness beyond. “Unknown threat, unknown hostile,” the PA system announced, “We saw a large blip on the radar before it disappeared.” None of it made sense, Derrick thought, purposely slowly donning his gear. Soon enough, the entire place was devoid of people, all of them outside with no choice but to freeze in the harsh winter. Slowly and surely walking past the other now-empty barracks, he was joined by the other three, with Elijah a little bit anxious than usual, while Gerald and Lee had nothing much to say other than uttering some prayers. “All of this is going to fuck us over, and there won’t be a court-martial for us,” Gerald said solemnly.

“She did say that she was going to come get us, ain’t it?” Derrick sounded off, trying his best to be reassured, but with each passing moment, he wondered if he and his friends made a right choice to do this for someone that they never know. If it was words alone, they would have told her to fuck off and even take her into the prison for inciting espionage. However, a portal and an actual show of getaway to a warm and hospitable planet, was more than enough to convince them. “We are running on borrowed time, let’s do this and- I hope she is watching us somewhere.” With the chatter quickly dying down, the four of them steadily made their way to the war room, which was just right around a few corners and was a dead end. “I don’t like this at all,” Gerald sounded off quietly, “We are going to work for her just so that four of us can get a permanent home? Why is she so generous? Better yet, the fuck are we going to do with our family members? You know PLA is going to kill us and then go after them.” Lee didn’t say anything at that moment other than giving a meaningful shrug. The other two heard it, but chose not to answer it.

They entered the war room, slowly closing the door behind them as they fanned and spread around the office. Just like the other rooms, it too was also dark, damp, and rusting. This was also the first time for them in the room. “Not as much as I expected, but man, all these data and old computers,” Derrick remarked, with the other three already rifling through the files. “So… what did she want to do with these papers? She looked like she’s from West or something to that, but I mean, we saw with the portal, right? She’s... otherworldly?” “Guess so,” Gerald replied back, flashlight in one hand and clutching his rifle with the other, “She doesn’t look like she had a stake against us… or with us. I mean the PLA. Fuck, man, all of these were honestly a bunch of nonsense.” Then, in what seemed to be a miracle, at least for these people, Lee conjured up a remark of his own, “You all just took this seriously, huh.”

The more the four of them thought of it, the more unnerved they became. Who was she? How did she manage to open a rift to their world? And more importantly: Why these files and what was she intent on doing to this world? “All I know is that I have been freezing my ass off in this place for years, and- I already spent 3 years in this shithole,” Elijah opened up a little bit – a rather inappropriate time, but there was no future for them at that moment, “I don’t even know if my family or my friends are still alive out there. This seems like a miracle with a chance.” Others thought about it for a while, agreed, and then moved on to rifle through the files, finally getting quite a large number of the documents. Just as they were done, there was heavy knocking on the door from the other side, along with much yelling. “What the fuck, did they breach through the defences?” “No… I- I don’t think those are our enemies…”

The door breached and blown open, the PLA soldiers and commanders – all of them in a state of frenzy that is fuelled by their short stint in the harsh weather outside – started shooting through the door, instantly riddling Elijah with a hail of bullets. “Shit, Elijah’s down!” Derrick screamed, to which the remaining three started shooting their rifles at the door. They only had two magazines each, and they knew it would not last. However, if they were to go down, they would at least go down in a blaze of glory, however misplaced and against their people it might be. The firefight lasted and raged only for a few minutes, and before they knew it, they were all gunned down and dead, with no chance to offer an explanation. “Send news to the higher-ups,” one of the commanders talked into the radio. “Not the enemy, but ours. Four fucking turncoats… […] Affirmative, will start looking for their associates. Over.”

<<

None of it made sense, Derrick thought, purposely slowly donning his gear. Just as they were about to go around to the war room, Elijah noticed someone from the corner of his eye. Another PLA soldier – one rank higher than them – exited one of the bunks and was looking at them. “The hell are you guys doing?” In a twisted quick-think, Elijah raised his rifle and fired a single headshot at the man, instantly bringing him down. As soon as the shot was fired, and the man was down, he definitely got an eyeful from the rest of the group. “Bro, what the fuck?!” Gerald yelled out, “Why did you kill him?” Elijah quickly snapped out of it, replying back firmly, “He’s going to rat us all out. You saw that look!” The others contemplated about it for a few seconds, then quickly coming to conclusion that it was for the better good. “Shit, I hate that you’re right,” Lee remarked, “Come on, we gotta get the papers.” They walked without a word.

They went into the war room, searched the room for 20 minutes, and then left without anything happening. They were to sneak out of the HQ and presumably past the large defence that was set up outside over the threat that they never knew about. As they walked out, they came across a chilling conclusion, elegantly said by Gerald, “Shit, dude, they are aiming at us! I thought they are defending what is outside the base!” The other three quickly panicked, with Derrick quickly putting one and one together, “They heard it. They heard the gunshot. Shit, Elijah! You could have talked to the guy!” Elijah simply shook his head, wanting to yell and protest but sensible enough to not do so, “Oh, why didn’t YOU try to, then? Or should I wait for you to do it then he ran off to rat us out?” “Fuck off, Eli!” The bickering went for a few seconds more before Lee finally snapped and yelled at them to shut up and stay focused.

As soon as he finished his sentence, however, things took yet another different turn. The soldiers outside were yelling for GELD’s name, announcing their full names and giving them 30 seconds to surrender or they will start barging in and kill them without asking questions. The outcome is not going to be good, especially for them who betrayed their countrymen, so to speak. This quickly turned into one of shouting in confusion and terror, along with the gunfire and explosions going off – not at GELD nor at the HQ only the four of them were in; the forces outside, were fighting off whatever was outside. “What the hell is that?!” one of them screamed, followed by “It-it’s fast! The movement is sporadic-” “Open fire, damn it! Ope- AA!” and so on. It went on for several more minutes, and then the sound of chaos and gunfire was quickly replaced by the quiet, unnerving whispers of the winds once again.

“What- was that?” Elijah whispered, much to the shrugs and terrified looks from the other three. All they could see from their binoculars were the faint footprints and the scattered weapons, with neither bodies nor blood in sight.

The Shot

Thirty-five seconds left. Chromatika with a two point lead. Kristie Shaddon-Ysenov getting doubled on almost every play. Valentine Z on a five-point run, trying to tie the game with the Penguins.

Shaddon-Ysenov brought the ball up, and saw that double-team waiting for her. She had somehow still managed a triple-double - seventeen points, fourteen assists, eleven rebounds - but she saw Kim on the left corner.

The pass was perfect, a no-look pass that saw Kim have a two-second window before anyone could get to her.

Without hesitation, regardless of the fact that she had gone three-of-eleven on the day so far, she let it go.

The ball arched high in the air, seeming to hang for an eternity, before falling through the net with that satisfying swish.

Game over.
Matchday 4
Chromatika 76-71 Valentine Z (19-19, 38-37, 59-56, 76-71)

MVP: PG Kristie Shaddon-Ysenov (17 points, 15 assists, 11 rebounds)

Game Summary: In a cagey game between two top teams, Kim Hae-Ri's corner three with thirty-three seconds left gave the Penguins a five-point lead that they would not relinquish as they prevailed 76-71 to maintain pace atop the Group.

Anton Vatnav led the Penguins with twenty-one points, and the Penguins barely hung onto the top seeded team of the group for more than three quarters before just sneaking by.

OOC Note 1: Many thanks to Cassadaigua for her cooperation with this RP. As with many RPs of mine and the greater arc, I owe no shortage of thanks to her.

Asts: 20: J. Maffia 6 - J. Chavez Mayberry 4

OOC Note 2: Minor adjustments were made to the stats and scoreline on my end as Kanmer did not follow the RP permissions, which involves PMing or TGing me in advance in terms of assigning stats (also marked as godmod scoring events), on my roster post. It's a peculiar one, I know, but I tend to be bit more peculiar with basketball due to the nature of the team where, yes, women's team is widely considered to be lot stronger (imagine having top 2-3? name on one gender, and just top 15-20 on the other!). It's something that I have covered a lot in 10+ cycles, but not everybody would know that rightaway.

With this in mind, I have also decided to adjust scoreline by a little bit, and have made corrections on my end with players where appropriate on rebounds and assists. Karugunda remains as the leading scorer with same number of points (22).

OOC Note 3: This chapter, while chronologically backtracking from the previous chapters that involved Jongmyo Shrine, holds significance. Social Seasons of Shin-Goryeo in some ways is a series about the society that was developing and branching out into the contemporary era post-Southern Rushmori War that has affected many parties, but is also about the variance of social circles and functions that emerge out of them.

With this chapter used as a set-up to hopefully alternate or work on both Montevicio Emerald Ball, where the contrast between the old world and the new world could be viewed in the setting of a glitzy principate, and both Athlone Gala and Adelphi Festival, where the old world still persists, maybe we could go through that in a parallel. Not to mention talking of the obstacles that would emerge with Barbenheimer (throwback to WC94 cycle!) production/shooting phases, minor mentions of the Great War of FFD, and how Dr. Heo and Jang J.G. would appeal to Christine II over the declaration of love latter holds...

SOCIAL SEASONS OF SHIN-GORYEO: SYNOPSIS

For those wondering about the Social Seasons, an introductory article about it is available here.

Year Season Month City Function
1 Small Oct. Dongnae-Halifax Festival de Dongnae
  • Brief synopsis: Raoul-Christophe 'R.C.' Jang-Nolan meets his friend Louise and tells her that there will be a new film project of his that could be his 'finest work', but will likely require assistance from a specific studio.
With a set plan for the presentation of the project, R.C. heads to the premiere at the Festival de Dongnae, where he lightly drops the notes of Rico Sierra, the Quebeco-Krytenian chair of the Monte-Sierra studio, of 'Barbenheimer'.
Sierra finds it amusing, but informs R.C. to give about a month before deciding on the project.
  • Cutoffs to occur: July 1 (Louise) - July 3 (Raoul-Christophe) - July 5 (Festival Review)
1 Small Nov. Joongyeong Bal des Ballons
  • Brief synopsis: A month passes, and we head into the Bal des Ballons. It is one of the most renowned debutant balls of the Multiverse, only rivalled by their comparables in Stelburg, Siovanija and Teusland; and Metropolis, Valladares, but is particularly knowned for relatively high degree of fluidity. While usually having a certain set of A-listers partly thanks to the patronage by the Queen Mother Elizaveta, this year's Bal has no doubt seen additional spotlight due to the debut by Princess Solveig of Cabo Azure, whose Olympic Gold Medal (in figure skating, to add) and anticipation as the society's diamond for the season.

But all of this stood relatively minor to the protagonists of the saga, as the men wanted to discuss matters of greater urgence. Hong Soo-Deok, the recently-honoured friend of Jang-Nolan, tries his best to persuade Jin Zhi Xian, a Quebecois financier with vested interest in both Haiguaidian, his ancestral homeland where his grandparents had come from, and Montesierra projects. Jin, who was here to accompany his son a cavalier, remains reluctant until a daring call from Queen Mother challenges him to accept the offer.
  • Cutoff to occur: July 7 - July 9
1 None Oct. Mlima Kijani Testiculos Ceremony
  • Brief synopsis:
  • Cutoffs to occur: July 27 - July 31
1 Large Dec. Montevicio Montevicio Emerald Ball
  • Cutoffs to occur (Likely in WCoH/DBC): December 5 - TBD - TBD
1 Large July Joongyeong Grand Prix de Joongyeong
  • Cutoffs to occur: August 31 (Pierre) - September 3 (Dr. Heo) - Sept 6 (The Siblings)

The Latest Whistledown

A Century On: Prince Ramiro II of Montevicio Recollects upon the First Encounter of Transformational Ordono II and Film Icon Kate Donavan

Jean-Luc Baribeau

MONTEVICIO, YOSEO-MANITOBA - One hundred years may have exactly passed from the day the San Antonio Cathedral rang their storied bells twelve times in celebration, but the tales of Kate Donavan and the Prince Ordono II of Montevicio's wedding, and their thirty years of marriage, carry on to this day in Montevicio. The marriage, which would involve not only the de facto reincarnation of fairytale in the eyes of many, but also to mark the continued development of Montevicio as a principality with its identities distinct from that of surrounding Quebec and Huayramarca, but also to that of the rest, is a story worth revisiting of own.

A hundred-and-two years after their wedding, their great-grandson Prince Ramiro II does his best to recollect what was known to him and his family. It was known that Kate and Ordono's meeting was arranged, partly thanks to former Julie Platt-Gavlas, the younger sister of Jameson, 3rd Baron Platt, and a longtime member of the Shingoryeoite Academy of Cinematography (SAC). Platt-Gavlas, who had passed in 2034 at age 94, recalled the very occasion clearly at Le Parimatch in 2011, on the fiftieth anniversary of the wedding: 'I did no part, just happened to be a chess piece in the greater fate's course of action. That's it,' she said.

It was 10th of September, 1956. Platt-Gavlas, who had travelled regularly over the Blood Sea due to her family running Platt Liners (eventually part of Spiritair by mid-1960s), and her brother's diplomatic career that would end up with his thirty year tenure as Ambassador to Cabo Azure, was heading to Prince Eric and Montevicio from Rutland, Cassadaigua. Platt-Gavlas and her husband, former Navy Officer and legendary Yoseo University at Montevicio (YUM) basketball coach Gilles Gavlas, would discover that Donavan was also at the ship, presumably to attend the shooting for what would become her 1957 film Antipodes. It was then that the couple had the idea of convening the two had come into place.

When the liner arrived in Prince Eric for brief stoppage, and also to allow for passengers to disembark, Platt-Gavlas met Donavan to arrange the possible soiree.

'It was not something that anybody had expected to work, but it worked out the best possible way for everybody,' said Platt-Gavlas, who also pointed their occasion as one with 'no shortage of chimneys on the Pier, facing against the Salamantic Strait that separated Quebec and Ko-oren, and just north of the mouth of the Northandryun Sea'.

Their exchange, while rather anticlimatic relative to the seaside glamour that the southwestern tip of Yoseo region was known for, was still successful. 'She did agree, yes, but there were a number of conditions that would take place, including about a three day waiting period between their arrival in Montevicio and the actual meeting. Those were the times when the camera flashes were brighter, though not as godawful as the nineties and the turn of the century, goodness..' she said. 'She wasn't the most active of those who I've met, had a bit of shyness too, and wanted to keep some facets of professionalism in mind.'

With the provisional green light given by Donavan, the coming days would come along swiftly and rather painlessly. Many hours of phone exchanges between Gavlas and his wife and Prince Ordono would follow, with both parties doing their best to figure out the simplest arrangement. Montevicio, then a rapidly growing city of 450,000 where the smog surrounded the colonial revivalist buildings in the core, Monte-Romeo Casino still home to most others, and the messy, ever-growing expansions of the smoggy suburbs coinciding with the Golden Age of Montywood cinema. Making a positive impression of the city, even with the Rutland native familiar to the city and the postwar era felt across the Blood Sea herself, was a key.

Approximately twenty-four hours would pass from Prince Eric to Montevicio, halfway during which Gavlas let Donavan know that Ordono would be expecting to see Donavan in four days' time, an extra day added from the originally-expected three day waiting period. When asked about an additional day, Gavlas informed Donavan that Ordono, then-vice president of the Royal Quebecois Olympic Committee and Basketball Quebec, had to be absent for an important meeting back in Joongyeong. (It would eventually involve the initial steps to discuss the acquisition of then-Northandryun Rovers's basketball team).

So the three days would pass between then and now, with Donavan mostly occupied under soirees, functions and meetings with those of Antipodes crew, as well as the studios who sponsored her trip there in Avalon Studios. Things would not get better on the day of the meeting. Sporadic waves of smog had once again engulfed the city that had ushered in Quebecois motoring culture (a peculiar West Coast trait, as those out in the east would call). This, combined with traffic delays on the city's roads and streets, let alone the sea of photographers, had made navigating through the city on her car..a difficult matter.

According to Ramiro II, the arrival at the Princely Palace would end up not happening until four, three hours of delay added. It was not the concern the Ordono, whose reputation as a late-sleeper and an owl prowling the streets had been well known, had, him still jetlagged from the previous night's travel from Joongyeong back home. 'When people say relax, it will all be alright, that's how it precisely went for my great-grandparents,' he said. 'He was still jetlagged trying to secure the future of his beloved team, the Lakers, and she was just trying to make it to the heart of the city but felt trapped by all that...chaos surround it.'

'That's how it went really. Photographs were quietly taken, perhaps neither of them so aware that this could be the start of something new - remember that both of them were engaged at the time, which might sound scandalous in this day and age - you might notice some of them too,' he added.

Feeling exhausted, the visits to the Palace's 70 rooms could wait for Donavan. 'Great-grandpa was more than fine with it - the Palace itself still has much of the features from 400, 500 years ago, and even more so in those days. So the idea for them was to go to a quiet house for quick walk,' Ramiro said.

The couple went downstairs to the basement, speaking to each other along the underground walkway to a tiny peninsula attached to the Princely Palace itself. Away from the media and everybody else, they would find themselves quietly enjoying two hours at the peninsula, where there was a long, wooden swing that also functioned as bench. 'That bench is a famous one, yes,' Remiro said of the now-famous Donavan Swing, which the tourists would be able to visit when it would be open on select number of weeks in April and August. 'And that's where things did change a bit. They relaxed, just spent hours talking, and were captivated with each other,' he noted.

After about four hours in the Palace properties, Donovan left the Palace, feeling happier and amused about the unexpected turnaround of the meeting. No official records remain of it on the documents, not even on the late Prince's diary, mostly due to how quick it was, but those familiar with Montevicio would know of the date's significance.

Others, however, would recall of it in a positive manner. 'Did everything go well? Eventually, yes,' said Platt-Gavlas. 'There was a lot that was going around in the city that week, not to mention Ordono having to be on a flight just says before, that we weren't so sure on how it was going to go.

'But a lot did come out of it. Like the white dress and the Emerald brooch she had worn on the reception later that night, sure, but also the ways in which they had addressed each other in class and elegance, that was a precursor to what would continue in the coming decades,' she added. 'Even the Lakers and the Kodiaks had additional atmosphere, with both teams going on a roll. Strange how things would just work out, sure, but let's not pretend that fortune had some part in it too.'

Two years would gradually pass, as Ordono and Kate would undergo to their matters. Their correspondences would continue, even with Montevicio undergoing significant urban projects that had kept the Prince and his civilian-led government busy, while Kate's film career would continue, most notably so in Rise (1957) and High Hopes (1959). By the virtue of the high-flying Prince's ways, and great manoeuvring, they were able to keep their romance quiet until the announcement of engagement a year and half later.

'Some things are public knowledge, and others...more the matter of miracles happening, let's just leave it at that,' Remiro said later on Le Parimatch interview. 'Yes, there were a lot of moments - like great-grandpa using the detour from a state visit, to that of factories in the beautiful beaches and piers of Palmyra, to see her in Rutland; or Princess Kate staying with the Ha's for the Festival de Dongnae to receive the Best Actress for Rise, just two weeks before the wedding. Or them meeting at the empty centre-field of Moogoongwha Bowl (not-Rose Bowl -e.d.-) in February of all times? Yes there were a lot.'

'But what does matter, regardless of the individual moments, were the times they would enter into, and would share. We were talking about a very different, postwar period, for both great-grandparents, and in some ways, both countries too,' he would add. 'So when people would talk about the Royal Wedding, of Christine the Second and Her Consort, I ask them to not look at the individual moments, but rather the ethos of the times. Because that's what will matter when you look back to them twenty, thirty years later.'

As for Platt-Gavlas, she had kept corresponding with Princess Kate, whose 'wedding of the century' (the title that has since been passed onto another one thirty years later, between Henri VIII and Nathalie Ginzbourg in Joongyeong, in June 1988) would last until Ordono's passing in 1987. Kate would outlive her husband by just over twenty years, passing in year 2008. She was happy enough to attend, though 'on the back row as expected'.

'I think sometimes we all want to have too active of a role, and claim responsibility over it, and let that greed, the desire to be recognised, harm us all,' Platt-Gavlas would say. 'I didn't choose to harbour that myself, mostly because I was just happy to part of the history. It was a charming moment, and to ask for more part in it, sometimes can harm how you would remember it.'

Now that's more like it.

Sarzonia rolled to a 20-point victory over hapless, unranked Ralsalin, 84-64 in a match that wasn't even that close. The Sarzonian hoopsters led by 38 with 2:38 remaining before manager Joy Knight took out guard Mike West.

West hit a finger roll for his 10th point as he finally reached a triple-double. He'd already snared 11 rebounds and notched 10 assists, filling in at the one for Malik Benton, who was battling foul trouble. He picked up his fourth foul with 32 seconds expired in the third quarter. The other point guards didn't have enough experience to throw into a match that was still within single digits after The Order's Vitaliy Surgan hit both free throws.

West decided to use his anticipation to cut into The Order's passing lanes for his five steals. The rest of the team were able to pick up for him when he got too aggressive and overcommitted in an effort to force a turnover.

Manager Joy Knight began to empty the bench after a 14-2 Stars run gave Sarzonia a 22-point lead after three. She realised quickly that West was close to a triple-double so she decided to leave him in. After West got his 10th point, she sent in guard Joyce Cummings to give West a well-deserved rest.

"Any chance I can get to give the rest of the team a chance to play, I'm going to take it," Knight said. "The next three matches will test the starters plenty."

Sarzonia (4-1) play their second of three consecutive away matches against Gatchingerrak Union, one of the two teams one match behind the Stars and Chromatika. West realised the stakes.

"We're one of four teams fighting for one if two, maybe three spots in the knockout rounds," he said. "We don't want to be in a position to hope we get one of the two third place berths in the knockouts. That means an extremely difficult Round of Sixteen."

Granted, it's a position Sarzonia are familiar with, as Sarzonia were a 16th seed facing Banija during their run of four consecutive IBC titles.

"It takes so much effort and energy just to get in that by the time the knockout rounds begin, you're already exhausted," guard Kent Bradley said. "You'd rather be in position to not have to expend everything just to get in."

Zakiyyah Masters led Sarzonia with 16 points. Ralsalin (0-5) was led by forward Dwadwen Rathenberg's match-high 18 points. He added a team high nine rebounds.

Thorne II

Postby Drawkland » Thu Dec 07, 2023 12:01 am

There was a trio of schools taking the recruitment of Basil Thorne seriously. All three were relatively local to the Ellzidanian territory, but not all of them were on the same level of academic or sporting reputation.

The first to make a real move at Basil, at least something beyond sending a letter destined to become kindling, was Notamill College. In short, this was a very "interesting" secondary institution. Notamill College was located in downtown Yokare, one of the several major cities on Yokare Lake, the largest inland body of water in Ellzidanet. Outside the Greater Shire-Port area on the east coast, the Yokare Lake area was the most populous subregion of the territory.

Owing to the rather "fast-and-loose" administration of the Ellzidanian territory, most of the major population centers were hives of illicit activity. Yokare had perhaps the worst reputation among all of them. While it wasn't necessarily dangerous outside of some neighborhoods, it was not exactly a place you'd want to raise a family. Notamill College was certainly a product of the local attitude of "cover your ass and get your money." Notamill had all the necessarily certifications and accreditation, but the faculty and staff were far from top notch. Students were drawn to the school for their fascinatingly low tuition and fast-track programs to get students in and out as quickly as possible.

Sports at Notamill College had a backseat priority. The programs were given just enough money to survive and keep Notamill as a top division DOCA program for recruiting and marketing purposes. The player development facilities didn't exist; Notamill's AD struck a deal with a local gym chain in Yokare to give Notamill student-athletes free memberships while they remained in good standing on their respective team. There were (barely) adequate venues for the major sports, and a mostly local fanbase that would turn out to games in numbers just high enough to keep the budget balanced without too much fudging from the accounting department.

Notamill's biggest athletic achievement was a freak run to the Extreme Eight, the quarterfinals of Drawkland's college basketball championship bracket. Not only did the Inconspicuous Bystanders make it to that stage (and promptly get blown out by Drawk Corps University), they happened to do it the year before Drawkland's participation in NSCAA 7. In that time, DISC just picked the Extreme Eight from the previous season to participate for Drawkland in the NSCAA, so Notamill got a surprise from their failed cinderella bid: getting to play on the international stage in Drawkland's NSCAA debut. That two-for-one deal is something that any Yokarian can appreciate!

This isn't to say that Notamill's basketball program hasn't had their stars. In Drawkland, most college athletes, even the upper echelon, are compelled to stick through all five years of their college career before going pro. With NIL programs in place for collegiate players, the highly advanced health technology, and naturally longer lifespan of Drawkians, it's considered an acceptable risk for athletes to do so. To be clear, league bylaws dictate that student athletes can leave college after only two years of participation to go pro, it's merely societal convention and school loyalty that keep Drawkian students playing through their senior year. That said, Notamill is one of the few schools that says "we don't care, go get your bag," to student-athletes who couldn't care less about the student part.

Hence, the sights were set on Basil Thorne. Notamill College's basketball coach, Tony Sampson, thought it was a match made in heaven. Basil was an elite player, and only lived a couple hours away from Yokare Lake. From the reports, Basil didn't seem very interested in college, which is a great fit for potential Notamill students. He could easily skirt by with the bare minimum, jet off to the DBO in minimum time, and make Notamill some extra money in fan interest and potentially postseason winnings in those two years. What's not to love?

Of course, it's not easy trying to get ahold of him, and Tony Sampson knew this. Notamill associates weren't well-versed in rural areas, so Sampson got the athletic department to send a few "recruiters" right to Reese County High School.

"What's the lowdown on this kid again? What did the boss say?"

"Boss said he drives a rusty old pickup. Owned by his pa, maybe grampa. The info wasn't sharp."

"Well that's a big load ah crap. Eighty percent of the cars in this damn lot are rusty ass trucks."

"Nahh, it's real old. Apparently it's got the antique tag on it an' all."

"Now we're talkin'. Think I see one over there."

The two chunky fellows in overcoats stealthily shifted over to the decaying pickup. It certainly was an antique, perhaps from the pre-hybrid era. It was honestly shocking that it was still functional, but the fact that it sat in the school parking lot was testament enough to its ability.

"I'm afraid to lean on the damn thing. Probably knock an axel loose."

"It's fine. They should be coming out any minute."

Sure enough, students began to slowly file out of the classroom building at Reese County. A few school busses sat in wait, while the fortunate upperclassmen made their way to the student lot to drive home themselves. Normally outsiders stuck out like sore thumbs in this area, but just like their school's mascot, the two Notamill men were inconspicuous enough to go unnoticed.

Finally, a tall, gangly kid with a messy mop of dark curly hair approached the truck. The two men took notice, and slowly turned to face him. They could tell from the description they were given, it was Basil Thorne.

"Hey there kid, sorry to startle ya," one of the men began. "You ever been to Yokare Lake before?"

"Ah maht've," Basil replied in his thick drawl, after a moment to consider the question. "Whut's it to ya?"

"Listen, we don't want any trouble," the other Notamill man insisted. "We just have a couple questions."

"We're very reasonable people," the first man added. "If you just talk with us for a minute, we'll be on our way."

"Go on then," Basil shrugged and leaned one arm on the hood of his truck, generating a puff of dust. "Git on withit."

"We're from Notamill College, down in Yokare." One of the men reached into the folds of his coat, producing a slip of paper no larger than an index card. "We are very interested in acquiring your talents for our basketball team starting next year."

"We get it, you don't care much for education. We sympathiz-uh, we get it. We don't want to waste our time, and we certainly don't want to waste yours. All these other schools are gonna be talking to you, trying to convince you about the benefits of their schooling. At Notamill we care about that as much as you do, which is to say, not much."

"Here," the man with the card handed it to Basil. It was dark gray, with the Notamill logo emblazoned in black on one side. The other side featured basic contact information. "This is all you need. Our head coach is a man named Tony, he's a nice fella. Would take good care of ya."

"We know you don't use a phone, so write to that address if you'd like to arrange a little meeting."

"So yur tellin' may," Basil said after a moment of inspecting the card with furrowed brow, "Y'all won't git on may 'bout classes an' all that junk? Ah'd just come in to play ball?"

"We have to keep up appearances," one man replied. "You couldn't blow it all off. But you won't find a lower standard anywhere else. Not legally, anyhow."

"Huh," Basil stuck out his bottom lip, and the men could see the gears turning in Basil's head. "That sounds mighty fine. I'd have to talk to mah daddy first, of course."

"Of course, of course. You still have time to decide." The man pointed at the card in Basil's hand. "If you want to talk more, just send a letter to that address, and we'll take care of ya. Show ya around campus a bit, give ya a good time, the works."

"Seems like a nace deal." Basil promptly stuffed the card in one of the pockets in his denim vest, and extended his hand to both the men. "If yu'll excyuse meh, Ah've got ta run. Pleasure speakin' with ya, of course."

"Same here." Both men shook hands with Basil, and left as quickly as they'd arrived.

"Gahdamn," Basil said to himself once he'd gotten inside his truck and shut the door. "These college folk are ser-ee-us about this whole basketball thang."

Basil took the card back out of his vest pocket and looked it over again. On the side with the contact information were a few bullet points about the school.

- Quick, easy schooling
- Close to home
- Acceptable facilities
- Big money deals

"Duzn't seem too bahd at all," Basil mused as he turned the key to his truck. It whirred for a solid five seconds before the engine finally turned over. The radio clicked to life blasting a country tune, which Basil immediately started singing along to, despite the fact that the song turned on halfway through a verse. Basil whipped the truck out of the parking lot, heading straight away from the modest Reese County city center and out to the sticks.

Basketball: Britonisea upsets 6th seed TJUN-ia in qualifiers, but there are still five matches left

Image
Austen Lyon, 26: Small Forward Austen Lyon dealt the final blow to TJUN-ia's chances as Britonisea won 80 points to 76.

In a shocking turn of events, Britonisea becomes the first nation to defeat TJUN-ia this tournament, who is ranked sixth in the world, on home soil.

As the Britonish team headed to TJUN-ia, there was a vibe from fans of basketball in Britonisea that we were destined to lose. The plan for the Britonish team was to try and make the defeat as narrow as possible in the case that the nation earns the spot as one of the two best nations who finish in the group third. Britonisea was faced with Liberty Arena in The Gardens, with more Britons in the audience that in previous away matches due to the nation's familiarity with TJUN-ia thanks to the NS Tennis Tour. However, despite their best efforts, Britons were outnumbered and so were at a significant disadvantage when it came to support. The TJUN-ia team received a massive round of applause when their team came out, while a rather muted or polite applause was given to the Britons. A BVC reporter on the ground noted that even though Britonisea is unranked, TJUN-ians, including their media, has noted that Britonisea has had a rather impressive time at the 39th International Basketball Championships and perhaps we are in store for a blockbuster match. Britonisea's basketball men, as we have previously reported, have done well at the Olympic Games and was only narrowly defeated by 11th seed Abanhfleft - there was no legitimate reason why Britonisea couldn't be victorious today.

The match started with the passionate crowd inside the Liberty Arena cheering away as the TJUN-ia team pulled away. While Britonisea's playing tactics is slightly aggressive, it was a vibe change for them playing against TJUN-ia and they could tell that they are playing amongst the best players in the world. The Britons started to claw their way back. After the third quarter, the Britons and TJUN-ians were tied - this is after the Britons were falling behind during the first and second quarters. The final quarter saw Britonisea up the ante, a sudden burst of hunger which saw the Britonish boys take the victory and win this all-important match. Looking at the group table, it seems as though its clear who the top three nations in Group 6 will be, with Abanhfleft, TJUN-ia and Britonisea now all on 12 points, while the other three have 6 or less points. TJUN-ia's loss against Britonisea sees it ties with it with only the finest of margins between the three nations at the top. For an unranked nation, Britonisea is causing a lot of disturbance, potentially with the power to knock a seeded team out of the competition. Group 6 is highly competitive - it's the only group where more than one team has scored over 420 points overall and most probably is the group where the final placements aren't confirmed or something you can predict.

Britonisea will most certainly be trying their hardest in the second half of the matches, as we see us playing the same nations again but switching who is playing at home and who is playing away. Britonisea may have the upper hand here - it hosts fellow unranked Sarenia at home before playing Lisander at theirs. They seems to be having a terrible time at the IBC, but with the crowd on their side - who knows what could happen?

Greetings, compatriots!
It’s TTV with a news from ongoing Basketball World Cup. The first half of the group stage has just ended, the appropriate moment to indulge in despondency... that is, to sum up the results of the work done.

In the last match before the equator of this stage, our basketball players had to fight with the leaders of the group, the favorite of the tournament, a team from Nova Anglicana, and, what was especially bad factor, have to play on their own field, which was very dangerous in world sports. As we have often noted in reporting, the complete impression is as if centuries-old home advantage was negated by someone’s powerful will. Nova Anglicana walked through the entire first round, defeating all her opponents in line, while not even spent serious efforts, just due to experience and previous successes, but we still hoped that what we had accumulated in the first games of the tournament, being combined with the will and highest possible efforts of our country's basketball players may manage to tip the scales in our favour. Unfortunately, this time everything turned out as we feared.

The opponents did not run far, never once did the distance between our basketball players and the favorites exceed eight points, but only three or four times they allowed our lads to take the lead, and never it was bigger than three points. So the game went on with about five points gap in favor of the guests, and it is symbolic that five seconds before the end the score was minus four, i.e. exactly as much as our team could not hope to win back in any circumstances, and the whole game was summed up by a successful attack of guest team that put an end to the intrigue: minus 6, and the first defeat in the tournament.

In general, after the first half of the tournament, the most prominent teams - if we made judgement by the ranking table position – is the ones who sit in the leading positions. But it should be noted that among all the participants only two teams go undefeated – alas, ours is not among them. And at the same time, only in our group there is no clear-cut outsider who would lose all matches. So there is no time to relax or mourn failures, because in our group you just gape for a second and will instantly find yourself outside the playoff zone.

DROP IT DOWN!: Welcome Home?

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Dec 07, 2023 3:51 pm

After another big win got us to 4-0, the Hoops-Jaguars of TJUN-ia were on a roll heading into a game they knew was going to be pretty emotional for all the right reasons. Bao Zhou knew that this game was going to be important for everyone in that building and wanted to bring his best for the occasion...but would everything go to plan here?

The Liberty Arena in The Gardens of New Washington was finally hosting IBC Basketball, fit with an inauguration ceremony and all the streamers, and with unranked Britonisea in town, everything seemed perfect. But the Britons were 3-1 entering this contest and we knew that we would be in for a fight and a half. The first two-quarters of this contest were par for the course, with Samantha Naylor and Ali Jaffer playing key roles, but once the 3rd began, the visitors started to claw their way back into things...and in a big way. Blaise Merle and Zachery Proulx were younger stars of the future and as such, they used their stamina to their advantage and that would push them over the line. Austen Lyon brought the dagger and just like that, we were unbeaten no more. 76-80...opening night in The Gardens didn't go to plan at all.

Revenge must be forthcoming...starting in LIsander. GO HOOPS-JAGS!

The Dragons continue to look very good during this IBC, as the side hits the halfway stage of the competition. The team has handled itself quite professionally and has looked more than proficient and effective from the short to mid range game, working the ball around to find the open high percentage shot. This playing style has paid huge dividends for the Dragons as it has curtailed, for the most part, the biggest weakness of the team over the last few decades, inconsistent shooting nights that see themselves on the wrong end of an upset. The side does have a loss in the first five matches of the group stage, though it would be hard to call it a huge upset, given it came against a side who has been historically a bit of a pain in the side of the Dragons in the form of Delaclava. Barring that unfortunate result though, this team is doing exactly what it was assembled to do, win and win impressively.

The Dragons do sit very comfortable at the top of their group but there is three teams right behind them with three wins and a draw that are looking to pounce at any sign of weakness from the Dragons in the remaining five fixtures of the group. The surprise of the bunch though is VonHoolia who has come out of seemingly nowhere and manage to scrap three wins, though their huge negative points differential suggests that they may be more smoke and mirrors than substance. While Ko-oren also sits with a negative points differential, it is a small one and can largely be excused following the match between themselves and our squad, where we won fairly comfortably in the end. The same can be said for the aforementioned Delaclava, whose positive thirty-one points difference sits second in the group, although quite far and away behind our own, trailing by ninety in that statistic.

Resting on their laurels is not what this team is about though and they will be looking to keep sharp their focus, tenacity, and the way they have been disecting other teams in the offensive end in order to maintain this great vein of form that they have been in to start the group stage. With the group as close as it is record wise, there is also no game where they can attempt to take that mental holiday as the rest of the group is salivating at the chance to dethrone the top seed from their perch at the head of the group. Experience in dealing with adversity though is why the team was recalled en masse from the last tournament, to lean on the lessons they have learned from those past experiences and to build upon them. There is no star player here that needs to go off to see the team through, it is a team effort all the way through and by playing as a team they look to secure their position and hold on to the group lead all the way to the knockout stages.

Matchday 5
Maraonia 47-87 Chromatika (10-21, 23-45, 36-67, 47-87)

MVP: SG Kim Hae-Ri (33 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists)

Game Summary: Racing out to a 21-10 lead, the Chromatika Penguins didn't let the underdogs Maraonia breathe, winning their game by forty points in a dominant performance on the road to improve to 4-1 in Group 7 Play.

Annelise Friar had three blocks in the fateful First Quarter while Kim added eleven points, including three three-pointers; after that, the Penguins didn't relent, as their bench combined for twenty-three points, a season high. The entirety of the second string played most of the second half as the Penguins had everyone contribute to the total team win.

"We focused on the defensive side of the ball," commented Head Coach Nagore, "We knew we can score on them, but the trick was to hold them to under fifty, and we managed to do that. If we can keep up that level of defensive intensity, we'll definitely make waves."

It will likely come down to the Penguins and Sarzonia, but a game against Ralsalin should be another good tuneup.

"Let's see if we can repeat that defensive act one more time," added Kristie Shaddon-Ysenov, "We're starting to rev up to something crazy now."

The Athlone Gala 2064: What To Look Forward To..

Anne-Marie Joo-Kerns

SONGAK, SONGAK FEDERAL PROVINCE - It is once again the time for the Athlone Gala, as the latest designers, icons and stars from the Shingoryeoite society, as well as those abroad, will be back in middle of the spotlight at the Athlone Museum in Songak.

The costume ball, which has been hosted by the museum known to be holding an authoritative position in Quebecois art, but more notably
applied arts and design, is hosted by the Museum's Contemporary Arts department, home to over 18,000 artworks considered to be primarily of postwar period (1945 onwards). The ball's symbolism, while normally used to represent the ever-changing world of fashion, media and the interlinked worlds, have warped into something past it, even to the point of status, something that the creator of the very original Gala, Sir. Michel Yim-Gainsbourg, personally abhored and hoped to avoid in the 1950s. Annually the list of invitees for the ticket changes and refreshes, though a certain number of guests come for consecutive number of years, and a single ticket cost $60,000 NSD (20,000).

Usually held in the second thursday of May, ironically ensuring its start after the month's civil holiday in May Day, the Athlone Gala is traditionally marked for a start of the year's summer social season. This year's theme, aimed at the fiftieth anniversary of the Quebeco-Equestrian forces' victory in the Felixian Liberation War of 2010-12, will be centring around 'Turn of the Millennium', to reflect the excitement of the first two decades of the new millennium that saw the nation emerge out of the economic instabilities of 1970s, growing divide of the nation marked by the times of austerity and extremism in 1980s, the political turmoils of 1990s. The works of no less than two-dozen 2000s and 2010s designers, whose backgrounds and fashion genres varied in their living days, would come to influence the era that many would remember, to this day, as the 'Cool Shin-goryeo', perhaps to the point of contention over revisionism affected by a sense of nostalgia.

-----

The Sierra-Heo family's limousine ride from Charles M. Regimbault Airport to the Athlone Museum involved navigating through rolling hills of the western half of the island, whose brand of NIMBYism until twenty years ago had instituted a strict night-time curfew, and then through boroughs of high, neo-Georgian townhouses and apartment buildings built at the previous turn of the century. The inside of the Rykers-Rhyce Viper, whose cushions and interior ornaments had mostly blocked out the outside noise, remained unmoving, with neither Myeong-Yoon nor Rico able to feel the shakiness of the pavement underneath, as they handled the one-hour ride.

Myeong-Yoon watched the outside with relatively little thoughts about the streets they were walking past. Cobblestone alleyways, grand Imperial-times buildings, and the calming presence of the city's many squares contrasted with the intimacy of the private gardens that many of her friends and colleagues had resided in. It was a city that, no matter how dreary and depressing it had felt to the provincials (she was one too, keep in mind), did breathe healthy balance between history and contemporary, one that Myeong-Yoon found to be more vibrant than the city she had lived for past ecade of her life in Joongyeong.

Her mind, of course, was not about that, or even the Athlone Gala itself. Unlike Rico, her popstar-turned-film executive husband, she wasn't going to go there, and not even the slightest thought would let that happen. Everybody had known about the Athlone Gala curse, where many A-list couples of all colours and backgrounds would meet their demise by the end of Summer after attending the maytime Gala together. In some ways this was a superstition, one that maybe people should rely upon less, but the couple still had made it clear back in March that Myeong-Yoon would use this opportunity to visit her beloved cousin, a certain Montreal City owner named Ji Gyeong-Wan.

And for Myeong-Yoon this was fine. She knew this even more, considering how her late grandparents had considered her to be favourites. One closest to the family ethos, rather. Unlike her father or brother, Myeong-Yoon thought progressively and meticulously, to think for something palpable and long-lasting. The fact her and Rico, who she had met thanks to a referral from none other than her rival and best friend Hazel Hanson-Conavacio, had ended up in both football and film industries after their primary careers had ended...was of no surprise. Both the Montesierra productions and Perce Town, were those of sentimental values to her late grandfather, a labour activist-turned-film scholar, and she was proud about both their legacies.

But what it had mattered to her was that this was done out of her own accord. No matter how much of the family name had held in the Big Two metropolises, where her brother was arguably the Mr. Baseball of the nation, her sister in law head coach of the women's volleyball national team, and not to mention her father, Myeong-Yoon had a name of her own too.

Considered to be the greatest point guard Quebec and Shingoryeo had ever produced, one whose numbers were retired at four programs - #5 at Erskine Collegiate (high school), #9 at Queen's College (university), and both #5s at Hamilton SonicBoom and CSKA Quebec - her name held value. Everybody remembered the 185cm tall guard for her remarkable on-court vision, excellent passes, and fiery personalities who reined two generations of Grim Reapers - that of her own Silver Generation of basketball stars, and the 'Olympic Team' whose young core would lead into first of eventual back-to-back golds on home soil, but also the first of eventual back-to-back world titles.

Now, Myeong-Yooon may not have been the sentimental favourite of her father, cultural and literary historian Dr. Heo Dong-Soo, but that was more because her father held greater empathy towards Myeong-Shin, whose mother was killed in car crash his senior year of high school and whose wife, Naomi, nearly escaped paralysis before being diagnosed with scoliosis. But the father and the daughter were in many ways alike each other. Myeong-Yoon's ability to build, with a partner as dependable as Rico, a bourgeoning empire was something that her father had once hoped for in his son, but had given up.

At the same time, she also wondered if her father may not have been open about his support because she did not need one. As mentioned right above they were very much like one another, and that couldn't be any more true with how both of them had worked around their plans. Both Dr. Heos, that being both the senior and the junior, were rather quiet people when it comes to acting on their plans, but the difference had been that while her grandfather the senior famously hated administrative duties that would come with his authoritative positions, her father never ignored the requisites the connections needed to secure his positions as high as being a Privy Councilor. Or chair of Royal Archives of Shingoryeo. Or the Teacher of the Queen Christine II.

Myeong-Yoon, in that aspect, was very much like her father. She always planned ahead, tried her best to persuade those around them the importance of a task towards the common cause, and drove relentlessly towards it. But it was also the matter of coincidence, and watching those around them go through that had kept her relatively reserved, at least compared to her brother or friends Ian Lautner.

It was fine though, and she preferred to be in this capacity. She had watched her close friend, Sir. Asher Lundrigan, gradually decline in his state to the point of reclusiveness, almost to the point where she had pitied his wife, singer-songwriter Plongeon, and their daughter, even more so because Myeong-Yoon was a huge fan of hers. This reminder would surface once again in the recent years, as the rows of criticism and pressure would mount on Theo-Alexandre Pinson and his wife, Natalie Gregoris for years when they engaged in several years of divorce saga before their reconciliation, and both had alone served a good reminder for her and her friends on staying quieter. That sometimes, being the planner and the deviser behind the scenes were a better idea than to openly look for an active engagement in search of greater success.

As they had started reaching the heart of Songak's West End, with them about five blocks away from the Soochanggoong Palace, they would notice how the car started to barely move past the traffic. Most of the crowd on the promenades were walking past, tending to their own business, but they could both notice that their limousine, even with neither visible to the outside, were being photograph.

'Now we are really in the city, aren't we?' Myeong-Yoon said, tapping her husband on the top of his palm. She had rolled her brown hair, with the shades of red that had inherited from her mother, to the back and wore a suit. 'The Gala has clearly brought some Maytime vibes into the air, though we aren't the only ones exhibiting it.'

'Whether it be from Avidia or the East Coast, I would not know,' Rico said jokingly. The Krytenian-Quebecois man had lived in Joongyeong for half his life now, and to everybody's surprise, had ended up with two children. He was wearing the pastel-coloured suits almost comparable to that of a Paddington Bear. 'But they may as well celebrate it since anybody you would want to see are coming, provided they have the invitation or are married to one.'

'Ah, the married couple going to break off their marriages,' Myeong-Yoon drily answered. 'Anybody you'll be expecting to see once there? Or are you just going to stand around, wait and chat with Hong Soo-Deok, Jang-Nolan, and the rest of Barbenheimer crew this time around?'

'Lord knows,' Rico answered, him having read through some of the guests on the list he had received from their assistant earlier today. 'Like you'll recognise some of the names on your end - Karugunda and M'bah-Pinho brothers will be there. So will Arsene Kim and the Casavants,' he gave an accentuated note when referring to the former longtime Prime Minister's in-laws in disdainment.

'Perhaps the better bet than anything of your interest would be to clear the path for Barbenheimer, especially if you want it to be ready by next year.'

'Easier said than done, if you would ask me,' Rico answered. 'From my knowledge Mme. Maisie, or should I say, Mrs. Ji, will be the co-chair alongside Theo and Natalie...goodness me they need to pick better guests.'

'I feel you,' Myeong-Yoon nodded. 'It's never a good sign for a married couple to be there together, let alone present this Gala.' Stuck in the traffic, then would continue talking for another half-hour before Myeong-Yoon would first reach the Ji family's residence. In a measure of relief, she immediately left the limousine and entered the domains.
