Yes, I Know I'm Living in the Past
It's Because the Present Sucks
we score five and then get shut out by Wreckeria?
and we have Donnell's revenge tour next, great
Salwan Mynhier

So we've arrived at that magical moment in history when our forebears finally got to hoist the cup for the first (and so far only) time. After 26 attempts ended early, the 27th finally saw them break through. There were no fewer than seven West Squornshelans on that roster, two of whom were key players in the first team. Several who were named to the national team roster for the first time would go on to great achievements of their own, and they all deserve a thorough write-up. Cranking out the ten thousand odd words it would take to profile all seven of them and their contributions to the cup run seems like a bit much though. I'll start off with just four of them for now: the two who were stars on that team, and the two who were their club teammates.

Igor Khabarov and Jan Jorgenson, co-starring Pyotr Nedvinsky and Knut Hanson: The Veterans

All of these players were already seasoned veterans when they were named to the roster Hanson, at 32 years old, and Khabarov at 30, had each first earned a roster spot during Cycle 28, and had appeared in each cycle since that time. Khabarov had been a starter: one of the few in their 20's on the World Cup 30 team, and scored 6 goals during qualifying, adding another 2 during the Cup Proper, and converting both his penalty kicks in the shootouts against Fmjphoenix and Liventia. Jorgenson and Nedvinsky, 30 and 29 years old respectively, had been in the national team pool since cycle 29, and Jorgenson had also started in the previous cycle, playing at left back, though he would shift to the center for cycle 31.

Together with goalkeeper Pyotr Nedvinsky, who was a depth option for cycles 29 and 30 and would be in conversation as top choice in cycle 31, Khabarov was a star for Damogran, ushering in an new era of excellence for the Eagles. Damogran had not seen a striker of his ability since the days of Franz Persson. Jorgenson, who was comfortable at both left back and center back, was Algolia's captain by this time. His teammate, striker Knut Hanson could never quite crack the first team for the Red-and-Black, but was more than capable for the Suntigers. Many still view this stretch as the golden age of the Damogran FC - Algolia AC rivalry. Jaglan had not yet ascended to form the third side of the Algolian triangle of hatred (though they weren't far off), and AC Damogran wouldn't even exist for another decade or so. Brantid clubs would occasionally challenge their supremacy, most often Chalesm, but none seemed able to sustain their good form the way the Eagles and Suntigers could.

At the qualifying draw, the 9th-ranked Red-and-Black were placed into Group 9, along with The Archregimancy (22) Spaam (28), Wentland (38), Rorysville (50), Iansisle (60), Tessan (82), Tocapa (111), Funnia Lan (159), and Lord of Hosts (204). It was a favorable draw overall, including the lowest-ranked team in pot 2. What many expected to be an easy cruise through qualifying began on a mildly troubling note, as the Pschychoes slogged through three victories in which they were anything but convincing, and a matchday four loss to Spaam that left them sitting third in the group, a result that caused no small amount of consternation both at home and abroad. The editors of the Vilita National, for instance, gave the Red-and-Black's performance through four matches a grade of D+. Domestic publications were less charitable, calling for everything from the ouster of Antropov as manager to the dismissal of the entire starting lineup. In the end, the only casualty of the shaky start was Nedvinsky's status as starting keeper, as he was replaced by Fallia backstop Anders Peterson. Whether Nedvinsky was actually a problem or the change simple served to wake the team up, their play saw definite improvement over the next few matches. After allowing seven goals in the opening four matches, they allowed only four in the next four, including one scored in garbage time away to Wentland after the Red-and-Black, leading 4-1, had long since taken their foot off the gas. Khabarov's brace of goals in that match helped secure the win, and he followed it up with a hat trick against Lord of Hosts, bringing his total to seven as the showdown with the Archregimancy loomed to end the first half of qualifying.

Fielding an anonymous team of monks, and with a commentating team as likely to wax theological as share footballing insight, The Archregimancy had, after a slow start, slowly worked their way up to be just one point outside of a qualifying place. Played in the idyllic setting of the Dreamed Realm, the match was closely contested. One would think a team whose training sessions were bound by the strictures of a monastic rule (and wearing cassocks to boot!) would have been no match for the ninth-ranked team in the multiverse. KPB ranks notwithstanding, the well-disciplined Monks held the Squornshelan attack just enough in check, frustrating Khabarov in particular and held on for a 3-2 victory. The Red-and-Black had not lost two matches in a single qualifying tournament since dropping three during cycle 26, and though they still held first place in the group, Spaam and Tessan lurked just one point behind them with the Monks a further one point back in fourth. With the worst goal differential among those four sides, a single ill-timed slip could have seen Squornshelous tumble all the way out of qualifying position. It was a worrying situation to say the least, but Antropov made the most of the mid-qualifying break.

Nedvinsky was reinstated at goalkeeper, and the team drilled relentlessly to fine-tune their attacking timing and chemistry, as well as defensive positioning. The result was that when they returned for the second half of qualifying, the Red-and-Black looked like a new team. Outscoring their overmatched opponents 14-1 in their next three matches, they looked unstoppable heading into their rematch with Spaam. The Waffles were a team in increasingly dire straits by this point, having been upset by Iansisle and Rorysville, and they played with a frantic energy that the Red-and-Black couldn't match. With Squornshelous coming fresh off an eight-goal match against Tocapa, the Pschychoes and Waffles combined for nine. Unfortunately, the odd goal was on the Spaamanian side of the scoresheet, and the Red-and-Black lost another match, slipping to second place behind the Archregimancy. Luckily, this poor result, which saw Nedvinsky shuffled out of the lineup again, was followed by another furious outburst of attacking power, and the team scored 18 goals across their next four matches, including a 7-3 outburst against Tessan which knocked the upstart, iron-age nation back into fourth place. The ten goal total set a new Squornshelan record for highest scoring match which has been equaled four times since, but never exceeded. The final match of qualifying, which would decide the group winner, but little else, was a fairly tame 2-2 draw with the Archregimancy, with one goal coming from Hanson, and the other from a young striker named Jaromil Ctibor (more on him next time). It was not the easy romp through qualifying some fans had become accustomed to, but the Red-and-Black had done the important thing and made it to the Cup, and topped their group by a two-point margin. Khabarov's 18 goals were enough to lead the team in qualifying.

Maybe facing some adversity before arriving in the group stage was what this team needed to temper them a bit. They announced their arrival in Vilita with a 3-0 drubbing of Geisenfried, in which Khabarov scored two goals in the first half hour, and the Jorgenson-led defense clamped down to make sure the lead wouldn't be challenged. The following match against Turori was much more hotly contested, with the Eels keeping things close, finding equalizers to answer goals from Khabarov and Xenakis before Ilmari scored off the bench to put the Red-and-Black ahead for good. With full points from their first two matches, and third-place Turori having just one, Squornshelous were through, and Antropov made a controversial decision to rest a number of his starters for the match against the Unified Capitalizt States. The result was an ugly 3-1 loss.

With valuable momentum perhaps lost, and a less favorable draw, the first team returned to face Bettia. The Bettian glory days had not quite come around yet, but they were definitely a formidable opponent, and a penalty shootout was necessary to settle the match. Nedvinsky, who was back in Antropov's good books by this time, stopped two Bettian shooters while the Squornshelans were perfect, making the fifth shot unnecessary for both teams. The reward for the tired team after their heroics was to face Bedistan in the quarterfinal. The Lions were defending champions, and reckoned second-best in the world by the rankings at the time. This would be the fourth (and final, sad to say) knockout meeting between the two teams, with the Red-and-Black holding a historical advantage in the series, but Bedistan of course, having been much more successful overall, particularly in recent cycles. Jorgenson was a force of nature on the back line, seemingly everywhere at once. He had to be, with the defensive situation often breaking down into a trio of one-on-one battles on Bedistani breaks into the Squornshelan end. With Nedvinsky capably cleaning up anything that made it through the defense, attacking players had the freedom to move forward, and while Khabarov did not notch either goal, he did assist on one by Aalto, and the defensive performance made it stand up until Petrov added an insurance marker with just a few minutes left.

In the semifinal, the Red-and-Black met Oliverry, who had defeated Milchama, and one of the strangest matches in Squornshelan history ensued. Both sides lodged formal protests against the officiating, which was provided by a mixed group hailing from Liventia, Bedistan, the Unified Capitalizt States, and Quakmybush. Both Oliverry and Squornshelous had considerable rivalries with the first four nations, so it seemed like a bad idea to appoint them to this particular match. The result was a match that got out of hand almost immediately. A 5th minute goal by Xenakis was disallowed in questionable circumstances, though his 16th minute effort stood. Oliverrian Nathan Miller was sent off just 25 minutes in for supposedly kneeing an opponent, though no one could seem to identify whom he had attacked. In the 36th minute, Oliverry appeared to score, but the play was ruled offside, somehow. No pass was made on the play, so Margaret only knows what the Bedistani linesman was thinking. Perhaps in recompense for this mistake, the Liventian official seemed reluctant to call fouls against Les Francais, which allowed them to get away with a lot of shirt-pulling and clattering challenges. With Oliverry having a 75%-25% advantage in possession but the Red-and-Black still leading 1-0, the first half finally ended. Mere minutes after the restart, a heated exchange between Aalto and Oliverrian defenseman Noah Hill resulted in another sending off. Hill was dismissed for a racial slur, though he insisted it was Aalto who had racially abused him. Yet another goal was disallowed in the 61st as Miika Lundqvist synically went down as Julien Dionne slipped past him, clutching his ear. After Khabarov made it 2-0 in the 71st, a third player was ejected for Oliverry. This time there was no controversy, as Aiden Hunt physcially assaulted the Liventian referee with a kick to the shin, and had to be restrained by his teammates. Somehow, with only eight players remaining, Oliverry nearly pulled within one, but the goal was offside. Xenakis made the lead three goals soon thereafter, and the match dissolved into a near brawl. Two Oliverrian players headbutted officials in the immediate aftermath of the final whistle, and the Squornshelans quickly made for the safety of their dressing room.

After that fiasco, the final against New Montreal States was almost anticlimactic. Oliverry had vented their considerable frustration on Krytenia, hammering them 5-0 in the third place match the previous day, and the Red-and-Black, fortunate not to have received any bookings in the semifinal took the field in their second World Cup Final, hoping to avoid the hearbreak of World Cup 15 two generations previous. They needent have worried. The Red-and-Black looked comfortably in control throughout, with a pair of goals from Benelli before half time and another lights out performance from Jorgenson and the defense. While their bid for a third straight clean sheet was spoiled as the Blue and Silver launched a last gasp effort to force extra time, Goran Renberg's 88th minute blast put the match virtually beyond doubt. Upon their return, the Squornshelan FA paraded them through every major city in the country on a month-long victory tour.

Following the championship, Hanson retired from international football. Nedvinsky, Khabarov, and Jorgenson would all return for the defense attempt, as would Jaglan right back and Red-and-Black substitute Andrey Kuznetsov. All four were major contributors to the quarterfinal run in World Cup 32, but it would be the last international tournament for all of them. Later in life, Jorgenson would go into management, eventually leading them back to the cup final. Nedvinsky also went into football management, but quickly gravitated toward the business end. Working in the front office for Damogran FC, he was passed over for promotion one too many times in his estimation, and left the club announcing publicly that if they couldn't see his ability, he'd build his own club. Assembling a large group of investors and bringing a number of sympathetic staff with him from his old club, he founded the Athletic Club of Damogran, cementing his status as one of the most divisive figures in Damogran footballing history. As for Khabarov, no one really seems to know what he did in his retirement. Rumors were that he moved somewhere up into the mountains on the Molvanian border, but there's no agreement as to why, and none of the sources I can find seem particularly valuable. Some say he founded an anti-imperial cell that lasted for decades and eventually fought in the Civil War. Another claims he became a spiritualist and shaman, and that people with more money than sense came from across the empire to visit him and be healed of various real or imagined conditions. Finally, probably the least likely, but most entertaining source was a conspiracy theory website which claims that Khabarov was abducted by Imperial scientists and that his genes were used to raise future generations of Squornshelan footballers. Pretty farfetched, I know.

So there you have it. The undisputed high point of Squornshelan footballing history. So far. We certainly don't look likely of matching that achievement any time soon, not if we continue to play the way we did in Halstead. After going undefeated away from home in the first half of qualifying, the second half has gotten off to a fairly putrid start. Sure 5-1 over Balaslandia was a nice stat booster, but losing against two lower-ranked sides hurts a lot. Those matches being away from home is no excuse, considering this team has already shown it can win regardless of the venue. If we can't beat Torisakia and Wreckeria on their own ground, what's going to happen in a few weeks when we have to play in front of 100,000 plus screaming Drawkians? The defense seems to have gotten its shit together over the past several matches, but where has the attack gone? What's the use of naming all these big name strikers who went abroad to chase fame and money to the team if they can't deliver when it matters? This team has an opportunity to make a statement in their next match. They handled Donnell's Busoga Islands squad in Dukuma back on matchday 4, and you know she'd love nothing more than to return the favor. Don't get me wrong, I don't hold any kind of grudge against her. She delivered consistently decent qualification efforts and Cup of Harmony showings here, and IAC8 will always be a magical memory. Everyone always wants to do well against their old team though, show em what they're missing out on. In front of a rowdy crowd of Molvanians at the Lutenstaad, the Black-and-Reds have a chance to put the whole Donnell story to bed, and take a step closer to earning their first qualification.

Finally, it can never hurt to appeal to a higher power for help, even if you don't necessarily believe in any. Accordingly, let us pray.

Hail, Margaret, full of caprice,
the RAND is with thee.
Blessed art thou with rubber chickens,
and blessed is the fruit of thy scorination.
Holy Margaret, Mother of Upsets,
pray for us footballers,
now and at the hour of our match.
Amen.

ELEPHANT VALLEY MAIL
Sports -> Soccer
Elephants kiss qualification chances goodbye

Eraman is known for their love of football, but Cittapura, the location for the second encounter between the Elephants and Eraman, is a notable exception. Despite a less passionate crowd, the Universiti Cittapura Stadium was looking forward to an interesting encounter between two teams that still had chances to qualify, with both teams ready to fight for a win.

Eraman 2-0 South Newlandia

Despite the clear result, the game was actually a close affair between two different tactical systems. Robert Wolverine and Tun Sengalang Petara’s styles clashed, and this time, the Eraman system had the edge. The aggressive pressing from Eraman faced the often slow, defensive approach from South Newlandia, and this time, the Eramanian defense shut the Elephants out to win the game.

South Newlandia actually had the first chance of the game in the 16th minute. Patrick McMora played a nice pass for Finnley Wallis, and Wallis’ shot was cleared by Dundang Bayan, the Eramanian goalkeeper.

Eraman got the game under control now. When Raphael Moreno had the ball in the 30th minute, he was surprised by Kudrat Saputra, and lost the ball. Kudrat Supatra had all the space he needed now, and after a quick pass to Buisan Buayan, Eraman was up 1-0. Mikhail Trischuk never stood a chance at saving the ball.

Eraman had one more chance right before half-time, when Mano Bosa had a free kick from about 28 metres. He got a nice shot in, but Mikhail Trischuk was able to direct the ball around the post.

At half-time, Robert Wolverine has behind again. He needed a goal, and his forwards hadn’t done them any favours so far. He decided to take Bjorn Cohen out of the game, and got Brandon Irving on the pitch.

It didn’t get better in the second half. Eraman started out with a good chance, when Mano Bosa got a nice corner into the penalty box. Badang Gangsa got a header in, but the crossbar saved the Elephants.

South Newlandia had a good chance in the 67th minute. It was the only good chance Simon McCabe had in the game, but his shot went clearly wide.

Eraman scored the second goal in the 77th minute. Anton Mora played a very long ball past the South Newlandian defense. Manuel O’Neill was way too slow for Kilat Saputra and Kilat Saputra scored easily against Mikhail Trischuk to get Eraman up 2-0. Coach Robert Wolverine decided to make a second substitution, getting Abdurahman Bishop on the pitch for Jack Schroeder in a last attempt to get points off of the game.

It was to no avail, and South Newlandia lost their second game in a row. Eraman was clearly the better team, and they managed to keep their qualification chances alive, while the Elephants are now 7 points back.

Coach Robert Wolverine has multiple surprises for us, as he starts both Jack Schroeder and Karl Meyer as Center Backs, benching Anderson and O’Neill. Also, Corban Green makes his comeback. He was injured since the game against Pangurstan, and Wolverine trusts in him to play the full distance now. Abdurahman Bishop and Brandon Irving also make the starting eleven, while Finnley Wallis and Bjorn Cohen will be benched.

Schedule for Group 13, Matchday 17

Tamgu (79) vs. Eraman (63)
Eraman needs those three points.

Mavinet (218) vs. Plane of Possibility (148)
No one expected this to be an important matchup on the way to the finals, yet here we are.

Valanora will get three more.

Kuriko (330) vs. Bliuji (99)
No one cares. Both teams won’t make it.

The Kytler Peninsulae (UR) vs. Juvencus (39)
It’s a similar scenario in this game, but Juvencus being out of contention so early is a surprise.

Pasarga has their bye day.

South Newlandia (228) vs. Ottoman Syldavia (338)
After two defeats, South Newlandia needs to pick up a win here. The match will be held in Kinjestad Soccer Arena, where 9000 people will be attenting. The Elephants beat The Kitler Peninsulae here on match-day nine, and they hope for another succesful game now.

The Condors fail to fly at home, a complete analysis of the 1-1 draw against Welzat.

The Condors are into serious troubles since reaching their peak when they tied Darmen abroad, now, a scarce and shy amount of 2 points out of 21 possibles at home shows a deeper issue into the players, perhaps there's need to fix strategies for Omar Caicedo or there are problems into the dressing room that nobody knows or talks about. The next game against Nephara raises more concerns than answers, in hopes that the team wouldn't be hardly brushed off the field against a side that has won every match after drawing against the Condors, precisely.

The mindset of the Huayramarcan national team isn’t at its best moment, if we do a simple throwback to the beginning of the World Cup Qualifiers, we can see how a total of seven points were earned at the first three games, while in this second leg, a meagre two points out of nine had been gotten, which is 72% less. That situation has somewhat disappointed the home fans that hadn’t been able to see a win after ten games, and even worse, the national team hasn’t won at home, despite being close to achieving it several times, even against Nephara where a last second goal favored the Cormorants to leave the Metropolitan District alive (sporting-wise). Pressure is high among the players to lift off their performance after a disastrous streak of ten games, the qualifiers might be large enough to see a possible bounce effect, but controlling nerves and regaining self confidence is needed for a team that has come from good vibes to a terrible shape.

The match against Welzat was somewhat an exception compared to previous games, the expectations were decently high if we compare that the Condors got an away win against this team at the first leg of the Qualifiers, hence, there would be some chance to replicate said performance, now with things at our favor such as altitude, home crowd, weather, etc. the odds could be high, but some issues inside the mindset of the team could be toxic for themselves, since only two out of eighteen points were earned at home, fans would expect to see the national team being capable to earn their first win ever at home, something that has neglected to happen at least three times out of the six previous games, since in the others, Huayramarca didn’t had a realistic chance even to press their rivals a bit more.

Omar Caicedo has been busy during the last days, thinking over and over some concepts that could help the national team to get better performances that could help to get that extremely desired home victory for once, this chance had some ideal components for it, still, Caicedo would stubbornly stick to the very same starting XI in order to get a better insight of his movements, quite like a desperate need for feedback that could make the manager to turn the team into the direction it was during the first 25% of the qualifiers (matchday 1-6). Allauca would now move to accompany Ian Mamani for the first half, in order to press higher and suffocate the Welzatian side completely.

The fans were crowding the Estadio Nacional since early hours of the day, specifically since 9:00 AM, trying to get the best spot into the query for purchasing the tickets. It would be a quite long query by the fact that this was the last of the four scheduled matches for the “Windy City”, hence expectations were high up since people could think that there would be a nice opportunity to see the team earning a decent victory at this match that could help the players to earn some motivation prior the match against Nephara, something that was extremely desired for. The spots for meat, ayahuasca, coca leaf purchasing were crowded, people tried to relax for the previous hours, there was a holiday-like atmosphere at El Alto, which is the zone where the stadium is located at, people wearing the national team shirt, be it officially or illegally produced replicas, scarves, flags or even plushies resembling condors. Passion was heating up after 2 PM, that’s the moment when the Huayramarcan national team arrived to the stadium, they were decided to warm up for at least 2.5 hours in order to get a better game sense, something that they would need a lot for this game.

The fans were receptive with their team, although, the sympathy wasn’t as high as it was during the first days of action but it wasn’t something that would limit some people from taking pictures with their preferred players, now a new star was arising into the team, it was Nicolás Allauca, the player had scored 5 goals in the last 5 games despite being a game destroying midfielder, he was moving himself better on the field while the team tried to create some plays against the rival, Allauca didn’t focused into an specific zone, instead, he tried to be polyvalent and help the team in a situation where goals are extremely needed, no matter who would be the scorer. Meanwhile, Bryan Tello had dried a bit during the last games, but this has a logical explanation, the pass rate had dried up, winding down from a 55% of offensive passes sent to Tello to a mere 23%, which was something to take into consideration as a big sign that the Huayramarcan national team had fell off into tactical disorder, which is prejudicial for its basic tactical functions to say the least, if not, it was a clear attempt to boycott the manager in order to force a sacking or something related to some of the staff that accompanies him.

There was a lot of speculation and lack of clarity between the national team, meanwhile, the Welzatian squad seemed to have things crystal-clear, their manager put things into perspective for the Huayramarcan press, the Royals, managed by Ulysses Doverton, Lord of Doverton said “Earning a tie here would be something that could taste as a triumph, since playing this high is extremely complicated, well, I even wonder how people can live here as normal.” They idea would be to stick to possession and have control of the ball the most as possible, he knew that Huayramarca would be obliged to press for it, hence he knew that holding the ball would be beneficial for them, since the Condors could fall easily into desperation or could go plain madly during the match and burst in anger for it, hence, forcing some yellow cards would be a nice move for the Welzatians.

The game was about to start, both teams went to the pitch in order to play and try to give their best into a game where both teams arrived in need to earn points, the Huayramarcans were visibly nervous while the Welzatians were in oxygen problems, they seemed to be unaccustomed to high altitude football, hence the need to play slowly and smart. The referee whistled and Huayramarca was now holding the ball for the first time in the match, in its farewell match from the Metropolitan District (for this cycle, though) and Ian Mamani decided to control the ball and then proved a long range effort at the 5th second of the match, he tried to do a 45 meters away shot, he was swept by Abraham Smith, Mamani fell down but Allauca grabbed the ball, then tried to pass to Abraham Mendoza in order to create a first chance of danger for the Huayramarcans, Daman Bragg was beaten with a single stride of the left winger, then he tried to cross the ball directly to Tello’s head, the wind deflected the ball to the goal, where Grant Overton had to stretch up to the angle in order to send the ball away from it. A corner was caused at the very first minute of the match, Mendoza decided to take the ball and kick the corner, he crossed the ball and found Ian Mamani, trying to nod the ball, but it was Orlando Mina who reached it and sent a strong header to the hands of Overton, who rested at the grass to calm things down for a bit, since the Huayramarcans stared with impetuous mood.

The beginning of the match was clearly a prediction on how the game would turn to be, pretty much, Huayramarca taking a lot of advantage from altitude, outpacing the Welzatians in a manner that would turn to be somewhat comic, since they didn’t managed to stop clearly the ambushes made by Sayritupac and Mendoza, they were in the desperate need to tackle them in order to avoid further issues, but granted, the conditions would eventually turn against them sooner than later if they kept their minds into that idea. At the 6th minute, Ian Mamani tried to walk further meters into the offensive zone, he gave a pass to Nicolás Allauca , the switching defensive/offensive midfielder tried to do another long-range effort that forced Overton to stretch once again, this time, to the lower left side with a powerful shot, he deflected and sent it to Mendoza’s wing, the latter took advantage of the opportunity and smashed the ball into the post, in a situation where he could have waited some seconds until the arrival of Bryan Tello, who would be more likely in a better position than the one Mendoza could have fabricated for himself.

Things were being lopsided, Ulysses Doverton was worried by the fact that his team wasn’t responsive at all, yet in relief since the Huayramarcan side wasn’t having the required definition to net the ball in and turn the scoreboard in their favor. Fans were pressing a lot to the time-wasting tactics used by Overton, whistling and jeering while he kicked the ball, the referee didn’t seem necessary to press or to warn with an eventual yellow card for time wasting. Orlando Caicedo was asking their players to press more when Overton was holding the ball, so he could be faster to kick the ball or pass it to their players, he didn’t focus on claim to the referee for a yellow card to Overton, since he thought it would happen sooner than earlier. After 10 minutes of action, the Royals were aiming to recover the ball and turn possession into their side, something that they wouldn’t manage to do, due to the work made by Orlando Mina and Nicolás Allauca, both of them were covering Ian Mamani in their attempts in order to provided passes and generation of another kind of movements that would turn beneficial for the Huayramarcan ideas of early goalscoring. Mamani had another chance at the 16th minute, he dribbled Ambrose Fanwich the Baron of Normanport and then moved forward with the ball, eluding the mark of Daniel Sleeping-Fox while passing the ball to Gabriel Sayritupac, the winger managed to penetrate in depth at the right side of the field, then moved to the box and passed the ball to Bryan Tello, who scrambled himself while trying to control the ball and missed the contact with the ball, Ian Mamani appeared from behind, chasing the actions, in order to kick the ball, Mamani did and the ball went some meters away from Overton’s goal, he decided to drink some water meanwhile to delay things up, the referee warned him by pointing to his clock, the fans started to jeer once again.

At the 20th minute, Ian Mamani passed the ball to Abraham Mendoza, the winger tried to run but a Julian Oposto tackled cleared the ball away from Mendoza, Oposto ran and passed the ball to Fanwich, the captain moved all along the middle of the pitch and passed it to Isaac Little, who faced Kevin Quispe, who was in relief of Felipe Fernández, Little had no chance to maneuver, hence he smashed the ball against the legs of Quispe to earn a corner-kick. Little left the ball to Smith, a cross came and Juan Mamani deflected the ball badly, to the middle of the box, where Daman Bragg had only to kick it strongly between the sea of legs at the middle, Mamani hadn’t a clear visibility to see where the ball was coming, he failed to save the shot and saw how the ball was kissing the net… A lapidary goal was done by the Welzatians, totally unexpected as how things were turning up for the Huayramarcans, who kept pressing high and with consistency, yet they were failing their last touch, that final movement that could do the same thing as the Royals did.

The fans were disappointed at the goal, their thoughts were coming down to the sink of negativity, some disgruntled voices were heard at the stadium, people were complaining like “Another defeat at home.” “Can you imagine that you are playing abroad? If that would be the case, you should be winning.” In allusion to the poor record of Huayramarca at home, to the point of earning a draw and six defeats, this would be the seventh defeat, the fifth in the row for the Condors, while they were overachieving abroad, earning pretty much all the points they have gotten into the entire Qualifiers. Omar Caicedo took his hands to the head and smashed his notes table to the ground. Meanwhile, outside the stadium, there was some unusual movements, the president was arriving with his escort, then, a van with doctors and unusual barrels appeared, they were granted permission, those barrels had the shape of a bird that can be found at the Cocoabo forest, which is at the Huayramarcan south border. People stared at them, some people was thinking that the players would be spanked or something similar to it, perhaps the head of the HFF, González, decided to inspire himself into the usual spanks that Lionel Mah does to the Québécois players when they draw against unknown teams, granted, Mah is a World Cup Winner manager with Schottia at World Cup 79 and had some wonderful runs with Québec back into the time, as the legendary World Cup notes have into it.

Caicedo decided to move Allauca a bit more into Mamani’s position, while Mamani itself would be moved some meters forward, he was decided to risk it all no matter the outcome, the team needed to recover after that hard blow against at home. Some bench players appeared to the field and started to warm up, while Allauca was doing the restarting kick, the Huayramarcan side was showing some predictability in the shape of orientating attacks to one side, be that side the right one, Bragg and Smith were having difficulties in that one, but they were sending reinforcements in the shape of Sleeping-Fox, who was managing to keep the ambushes in that side limited, that pattern could be noted in the following heat map.

Image

Huayramarcan offensive efforts were lopsided to the right wing, Sayritupac was leading said attacks.

Stuff was getting repetitive for the Huayramarcans, hence, Caicedo decided to turn the orientation of those to the middle, turning Allauca and Mamani as players with a key role into the attacks. Allauca tried to prove himself at the 28th minute of the match, he decided to launch an attack with a long stride into the middle, then passed to Mamani with quick succession of passes in order to beat Fanwich and Sleeping-Fox, who came in his support, Mamani passed the ball to Bryan Tello, who hold it out and wait for Allauca, then the mid appeared and shot the ball, which was deflected by the leg of Hudson Days, causing a throw-in. Mamani handed the ball to Mendoza, he later took the ball and sent a long throw, Tello reached it and turned over his own axis, then sent a shot to the goal, but it was disallowed by fouling John Bitterton while turning over the other side. Tello protested the decision to the lineman while the referee was sending him away from his colleague.

At the 35th minute, Huayramarca was undoubtedly holding better possession than the Royals, yet the definition wasn’t at their side, a 66% of possession meant nothing at the scoreboard since the visitors were showing more effectiveness at it, while passing precision would give us a clearer insight of what was happening, as courtesy from Data Bakery, the leading Big-Data business in Huayramarca, the Condors were only having a meager 25% of success at offensive passes, while the Welzatians hold a decent 90% while trying to move forward and away from their area. Thus, the main problem against the Huayramarcan side were themselves, since they were lacking from precision to have even more chances or succeed at least on one attempt of the many they were having on that period of time.

Omar Caicedo was seemingly furious when he noted that there was something failing, meanwhile, the President of Huayramarca made his arrival at Caicedo’s dugout, he was somewhat surprised while he saw him coming, but the president said to him “We have the solution to your problems, you’ll find it at the dressing room for the pre second half talk.” Caicedo nodded and said “I hope is what I want, we are performing badly.” The president left and walked towards the dressing rooms, in order to wait for the players, he was accompanied by doctors and experts in nutrition. While the president left, Sayritupac had another chance to score a goal that went narrowly missed, then, the referee whistled and finished the first half, the Condors were buried into a sea of boos and jeers from their fans, they were disappointed and not aware that a surprise was baking off at the dressing room.

After the players walked to the dressing room, they saw with some shock in between themselves that the president of Huayramarca was waiting for them, with him, medical staff with some weird shaped barrels and small cups with a brown-ish cocoa-like drink. The president said “Considering the lack of good results that the Condors have achieved during this World Cup Qualifiers, we think it’s our responsibility as government to supply all of you with the very best in order to deliver success to Huayramarca, hence, I called this doctors to provide you Cocoa-bo, which is a chocolate beverage made to enhance performance of you all, I’ll let the doctors to explain that to you better.” Then, a doctor appeared and walked to the front, grabbed a bit and drank it, then he grabbed a ball and started to do some nice tricks with it, which was “unexpected” to see out of nowhere a doctor with some good abilities to play with the ball, hence, the players were “seeing” the blessing that the Cocoa-bo could be for their performance, that doctor talked “You’ve seen how that beverage has made me improve a lot, now wonder what can be achieved with you. This drink has been tested in strong national teams such as The Holy Empire and others, those had achieved great results with it, hence we think you could be benefitted with this.” Abraham Mendoza, as a Chemical Engineering student asked “Talk me about the compounds of this, which are their benefits for our organism?”

The doctor grabbed a board and wrote in it “Better oxygen catalyzation, improved reflexes and muscular coordination, high speed neural connections which enhance the player to react better, and faster.” Mendoza grabbed two cups of it and drank it so fast, he noticed that there wasn’t traces of what he was, he felt relaxed, like he reborn all of a sudden. The players asked him what he was feeling and said “Drink it, it’s true what they say, as a Chemist in process I can confirm its benefits, it seems that there’s some glutamic acid in it, thiamine, nicotidamine, and other components that, indeed, enhances your performance.” The players rushed to drink the Cocoa-bo while the referee was knocking at the door, telling them that the time was up, they needed to field once again at the pitch, Omar Caicedo wasn’t annoyed, instead, he was pleased at it, that much that he asked for a liter of it. The doctors informed the players that they would be eventually visited by them every day to provide a strict dose of it, in order to see how they evolve.

What in reality is Cocoa-bo, is a placebo, some nations touted it as a drug without clear proofs of its chemical behavior on people, hasn’t been properly tested at all, except for The Holy Empire National Team. The Royal Valladar Army had done essays with it but results hadn’t been available in public release, hence, there’s uncertainty about how things will fare for this rare drink and what’s real about it. Still, the fact of being given all of a sudden like that would enhance some neurons at players, by the fact of being a placebo, those usually make their consumers to feel better and at some instances, they could improve better for real, since they would feel motivated for its consumption. Granted, drinking a placebo doesn’t constitutes a breach to international substance regulations for sport, since it’s unoffensive and their effects are merely psychological and not real drug enhancing that could threaten to ban the Huayramarcan national team.

The Royals did some substitutions, Abraham Smith came to the bench and Arcadius Minno to the field, the mindset of the visitors would apparently remain in the same shape as it was from before. The players started to pose themselves on the field, they were stretching before the beginning of the match, Caicedo decided to keep things as it were at the end of the first half, their secret weapon helped to keep things as normal, now, it was matter to see what the beverage was capable to do for their players in terms of performance into the field. The Welzatians started off with the ball at their possession, the Huayramarcans seemed more faster and accurate than before at their marks, Orlando Mina, the one who tends to react a bit slower due to height issues, seemed that he reacted faster than the usual when he robbed the ball to Arcadius Minno, then he moved the ball back to Sebastián Chumacero, who decided to keep control of it for some minutes, in order to get better adapted to the new physical conditions of all the players, the Huayramarcan squad decided to do complicated passes as a way to test themselves their reflexes, something that was growing up annoyance among the fans, who were throwing coins at the players, together with some coca leaf to help them breathe better.

At the 54th minute, Orlando Mina, who seemed as the best player during the second half, received the ball and did a quick succession of passes with Ian Mamani, dribbling all along the way Daman Bragg and Julian Oposto several times, then, Mina decided to pass the ball to Bryan Tello, who found himself at a good position to shot, he eluded Sir. Preston Stones and then shot, Overton deflected the ball badly, then Mina appeared and shot it, it was smashed at the crossbar. The last deflect was received by Arcadius Minno, who sent the ball far away from any Huayramarcan player, the locals were somewhat surprised while watching that the clearance landed on Sleeping-Fox feet, but Nicolás Allauca swept him clearly, taking the ball once again for the Condors. Allauca’s idea was to cross the ball, but he saw how he was being cornered by Minno, Oposto and Sleeping-Fox, hence, he backheeled a pass to Mina, then he switched up sided to Abraham Mendoza, the young chemist decided to provide a cross to Tello, who nodded the ball a bit uncomfortably and sent it away of the goal.

Omar Caicedo was noticing that the drink had somewhat enhanced the performance of the players during the last minutes, hence he decided to ask their players for more, but with order between their actions, since the main issue that Huayramarca was showing was improvisation rather than a real plan to attack, hence, there was need to take advantage of their renewed physical conditions in order to get up the front and manage to solve with a goal for once. The orders from Caicedo came as in the way of “Attack in blocks.” That meant that three players should be together when one was holding the ball in order to ensure different ways to keep possession of it on case there was some rival trying to quit the ball to the Huayramarcan side. Three different alternatives and action courses that could finish in a dangerous chance for the Huayramarcans against the Royals. Some proofs of it were shown at the 63rd minute, when Ian Mamani, Orlando Mina and Nicolás Allauca decided to join Gabriel Sayritupac on an attacking duty, they were outnumbering the Welzatians on the middle, since Bragg and Oposto were struggling to get past Mina, who was protecting Allauca while he was moving forward, then he passed the ball to Ian Mamani, the young midfielder and captain decided to keep himself with the ball and then pass it to Sayritupac, he ran through the wing and passed once again the ball to Allauca, the midfielder now sent it to Tello, who was able to perform a chance, he shot and Overton saved it, he sent it to the corner.

Meanwhile Caicedo was noticing how the improvements were notorious, the players were having better chances and understanding while attacking in blocks, same thing he figured out that could help while defending, but in more compacted blocks, since zonal defending is a risky move that could turn into lots of spaces available for the rival. The corner was delayed a bit since fans threw a beer to Sayritupac, known for being somewhat addicted to the consumption of said alcoholic drink, he drank a bit and then kicked it to one side of the pitch, Sayritupac crossed the ball and Overton deflected, but Mina managed to nod the deflected ball, it was a clear chance that surprised the goalkeeper being away from the goal, but a feline reaction from Hudson Days at the very goal line prevented the equalizer from the Huayramarcans. Caicedo wasn’t believing what he was observing, the Welzatians were having sheer luck at their side and there wasn’t anything that Huayramarca could do to revert it.

Tick, tock, the clock was moving forward, we reached the 70th minute mark and possession still remained in favor of Huayramarca, with a 68% now instead of the 66% they had in the early minutes of the second half, pass precision grew up from 25% to a decent 65%, granted, Huayramarca was pressing more, hence they had more chance to do attacking passes than before, while the Welzatians weren’t able to react against that situation, instead, Ulysses Doverton asked the players to keep defending the result, which was great for them considering the situation they were facing, an incisive Huayramarcan side and playing at such a high altitude venue as the Metropolitan District. Doverton required for some oxygen while giving instructions to his players, there was need of it since he lacked of proper acclimation on the past days, given that their team arrived some days before the match, contrary to what other teams did, since they opted to land at the Coast, be there and ascend the very same day of the match to the Metropolitan District, so they could avoid being reached by altitude sickness during the game.

Then we were at the 76th minute, another block attack from Ian Mamani, Allauca and Orlando Mina, now at Mendoza’s wing, the four players managed to move fast between them and the Welzatian mark in the shape of Bitterton and Days, although, Days pushed them to the corner, then Allauca decided to kick the ball against Bitterton and negotiate a corner kick. Mendoza prepared to perform the cross but decided to go short on Kevin Quispe, who went to the attack with Carlos Vilca, Quispe passed the ball to Mina who shot the ball, it was deflected by Bitterton, then Mamani tried to kick it and smashed it to the post, another quick reaction from the goalkeeper managed to deflect the ball to the right side, where Carlos Vilca was, since he decided to ran away from the human scramble it was made at the center of the box, the defender decided to kick the ball to the upper left corner, Vilca finally did it, Huayramarca equalized the game at the right time. 1-1, fourteen minutes left plus added time in order to revert the situation, Doverton was mildly annoy with his team due to the lack of proper marking at the box, something that propitiated the scramble at it.

Things were now at high pressure for the Huayramarcan team, they knew that they had a clear chance to get up the scoreboard if they decided to press, hence Omar Caicedo asked the players to go full into attack, no matter what, he and Lautaro Huamán asked the players to move completely into attack, to the point of taking the defenders to the middle of the pitch in order to start the play or counteracting against an offensive attempt from the Welzatians. It happened in that way, Kevin Quispe was at the middle now, Ian Mamani was 20 meters shy of the box, when he usually is at 50 or 60 meters away from it. Kevin Quispe was stopping Isaac Little at a counterattack attempt, Quispe launched the ball from the middle with a fast clearance, he sent it to Mendoza, then he crossed to Ian Mamani, the midfielder had the ball and tried to clear himself from any pressure from Bitterton, then he passed the ball to Tello, the forward decided to get into the area and shot, Overton saved the ball and then Mendoza arrived to kick once again, Overton saved it with his face and sent it away to the corner. Medical assistance entered to provide some support to Overton after that miraculous save, he stayed on the floor for some minutes despite of everything in order to waste some time, until this moment he only earned one warning for time wasting, surprising if we consider the fact that he was wasting some time since the very beginning of the match.

Omar Caicedo was protesting at the 86th minute, Bitterton was only recovering after it, he managed to get over himself and the corner proceeded, Caicedo was yellow-carded after insulting the referee several times while the Royals’ goalkeeper was being assisted. It was until the 88th minute that the corner proceeds, Mendoza crossed the ball, Allauca nodded and sent it to Mina, then the midfielder had the chance to score and sent it above the goal to his proper disbelief, it was a clear miss from him. People was regretting that failed chance since it was so crystal-clear to be goal, it was mere thing to push the ball into the goal and there it would been… Still, there were five more added minutes to end this, in said time lapse, Huayramarca would even go more offensive than usual, trying to score that equalizer breaker and earn that extremely desired victory for the Condors at their nest. The Welzatian side was trying to kick balls into the field in order to stop the game, and make the Huayramarcans get frustrated by those stops, they failed to do it since the ball keepers hid the balls, pretty much like they always do when the rival asks for one, ignoring them completely and delivering them as fast as light in order to help the locals get it into the net.

The night was arriving into the Metropolitan District, then the madness for Bryan Tello, who received the ball at the last second of the match from Mendoza, then he passed the ball to Allauca, the midfielder that was now completely turned into offense kicked the ball and slammed it into the crossbar, the crowd erupted in disbelief, groaning at the missed chance, then Tello appeared alone, pushed the ball narrowly into the left post, the effort went missing for a few centimeters, with that, the referee finished the match. It was clear, the Huayramarcan performance increased heavily in the last half of the match, they pressed high enough to let the Welzatians chanceless during that part of the game, still, precision is something that needs to be solved as fast as possible, since Nephara’s waiting at the next door, for the Cormorants, this match tastes like a possible revenge for them, since Huayramarca’s the tiny mud speck on their impeccable record in this World Qualifiers, the Nepharim had won every game since then, meanwhile, Huayramarca had struggled a lot and only earned one win, a couple of draws and several defeats that put them to the risk of being chanceless even to struggle a bit into the top positions, although, we know for sure that Huayramarca won’t fight for the top spots since pretty much everything is decided on them, Nephara on first and then Jeruselem running away quite comfortably over Darmen.

Omar Caicedo post-match declarations were the following: “We need order, although, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel because the team showed a superb performance during the last minutes of the second half, which is reminiscent on what we saw during the first matches of the Qualifiers, hence, we know now that the ability is there, it’s matter of ordering the team first, building discipline and ensure to make them get confident no matter what.” After being asked about the next match against Nephara he answered “Well, they have had a perfect sheet after facing us, while we ran through a completely luck, but things can revert soon for both, be it for good or bad of whichever team. For ourselves the thing is clear, we want to show our best there, some players might be motivated by the fact that they have the best football league in the multiverse, hence some showoff from our players can be expected, we will try since we are 11 vs 11, no way of getting outnumbered, and sometimes, the numbers can crush quality.”

Independent Cocoa-bo Commission
Transcript of First Session

Sir Barsanuphius
Good Morning. Welcome to the first sitting of the Independent Cocoa-bo Commission. The goal of this commission is to investigate the claims that Cocoa-bo is an addictive and, under certain circumstances, performance-enhancing substance that should be banned from the World Cup. I'm joined tonight by my fellow commissioners, Mr Chad Minett of Jeckland.

Mr Minett
Good morning

Sir Barsanuphius
Mr Minett is representing Ordinary Reality; and also imperial senator Irene Copronymuso

Senator Copronymuso
Good morning

Sir Barsanuphius
A senator known for her commitment to fairness and impartiality. This first sitting is taking place in Fluffy Bunny World so that we can interview one of our more important witnesses - Fluffy Bunny Snuggles, who was part of the famous Holy Empire Squad that reached the final of World Cup 80. Hello Bunny Snuggles.

Snuggles
Just call me Snuggles, Sir Barsanuphius, Sir.

Sir Barsanuphius
Of course, Snuggles.

Snuggles
And gosh, I'm just so excited to be here today; what with the sun shining, and ever so many tasty carrots to be eaten and cups of tea to be sipped. It's a super day to be a Fluffy Bunny!

Sir Barsanuphius
Thank you Snuggles. Now, I believe that you've had some experience with Cocoa-bo...

Snuggles
<shivers>
Yesssssssssssss......

Sir Barsanuphius
Could you describe that experience for us?

Snuggles
Well goodness Sir Barsanuphius, Sir; I think it was the quarterfinal against Turori, and I drank all of the supplies of Cocoa-bo before the match, and I was so full of zip, zest, and zing, and I've never played better before, and I never played that well again. It was like I was on some kind of high...

Mr Minett
Excuse me, Mr Snuggles...

Snuggles
Just Snuggles, Mr human mister, sir

Mr Minett
Of course - so you're saying that your incredible match-winning performance in the first half of that game was entirely and solely attributable to overdosing on several crates of Cocoa-bo?

Snuggles
Oh yes... except that I pooped myself out by halftime, and no amount of munching on carrots or daisies, or cups of tea, or casual acts of violence could revive me. But it was definitely down to Cocoa-bo.

Sir Barsanuphius
And was this your only experience of Cocoa-bo, Snuggles?

Snuggles
<confers with his Fluffy Bunny lawyer>
Do I have to talk about this, Sir Barsanuphius, Sir?

Sir Barsanuphius
You're among friends, Fluffy Bunny Snuggles; we all think you're oh so cute and utterly deadly - but it's important that other mundies hear the truth; it's important that the multiverse knows.

Snuggles
Well, goodness, Sir Barsanuphius, Sir... No, that wasn't my only experience of Cocoa-bo. At first I thought it was just a super-delicious chocolate drink. I would have one after a match; maybe two. But then I couldn't stop. Before I knew it, I wasn't drinking cups of tea or munching on delicious carrots anymore.... I was drinking 20 litres of Cocoa-bo a day. If I didn't drink Cocoa-bo, I became violent - well, even more violent, if you know what I mean. My wife left me and took all the kittens. I was smearing that chocolaty drink all over my fur - don't trust anyone who smears Cocoa-bo all over their bodies; it's a sure sign of an addict - I couldn't stop.

I WAS ADDICTED TO COCOA-BO. <sobs>

Only the kind support of my friends and family, along with a rigorous bunny-oriented 12-step programme, managed to cure me of my addiction. My wife forgave me, but.....

TAKE THAT DEMON DRINK AWAY FROM ME!

I NEVER WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN <breaks down in tears; is comforted by wife>

Sir Barsanuphius
Thank you, Snuggles; thank you for being brave enough to share that with us.

Mr Minett
Compelling testimony, Bunny Snuggles; thank you.

Sir Barsanuphius
Are there any other questions from the commission?

Senator Copronymuso
Yes... Might I say how fluffy you are, Snuggles?

Snuggles
Gosh, thank you, ma'am.

Senator Copronymuso
And oh so terribly violent, no doubt.

Snuggles
Gosh, thank you ever so much, ma'am.

Senator Copronymuso
Do you like puppies?

Snuggles
Oh yes, ma'am... they're ever so tasty!

Fluffy Bunny Lawyer
If I may, I believe my client is using 'tasty' in the bunny slang sense to mean 'cute' and 'lovely'.

Snuggles
Oh no, I meant....
<lawyer whispers in Snuggles's ear>
Yes, cute and lovely, that's precisely what I meant; they look ever so cute frolicking in the daisies! Right next to the barbecue!
<lawyer whispers in Snuggles's ear>
Safely next to the barbecue, where we can be sure they'll come to no harm, of course.

Senator Copronymuso
Good; no one who likes puppies can be dishonest; your testimony is all the more compelling. No further questions.

Sir Barsanuphius
Session adjourned; our next witness will be in ...
<shuffles some papers>
Reçueçn; we'll see you there tomorrow.

Blood, Sweat & Glory - Part 8

After matchday 16, Port Ember managed to pull through yet another very impressive victory, smashing Indusse with a final score of 1-4. This victory saw the Dragons snatch an impressive 6 game winning streak and earn the preliminary second position in the qualifying group table (although tied in points with heavyweights Ko-oren). This was following a turbulent in the young teams history - a period rife with internal conflict and scandal. The team and fans alike were still reeling from the murder of their captain, Ray Reddington by reserve midfielder Frazer Murray, the subsequent resignation of their coach who had build the team up from scratch over the past eight years, and then the surprise appointment of Major Kent Block, a retired special forces operator with no previous experience in coaching or managing a professional football team. The media, critics and fans alike had enough and called for heads to roll. The Port Ember Football Association (PEFA) and the team responded by going into a total communication lockdown, refusing any form of link up with the media. Finally when the first match under the new helm had arrived, the team managed to take down the surprise underdogs of the group - the Cheergirls, with a solid yet uninspiring victory. The critics back home did not have much tinder to burn their favorite team to hate, but praise was far from coming forward. Next the team marched up against Vlasisitan, absolutely and totally smashing their opponents with a 6-0 final score. This beautifull form was continued when Devonta was crushed 3-5. The season broke briefly for the mid season break, yet the good times did not end there as the second half of the season was restarted with a 3-6 smashing of Daskel. Mattijana, who defeated our team in the first encounter, tasted the wrath of a revenge seeking squad, being smashed 2-0. During the last matchday, Indusse was next on the hit list, being broken with a 1-4 score. The media, critics and fans were reluctantly forced to accept that their judgement was passed too soon. Their team had surpassed even their own best possible form, and were actively steamrolling the season, despite their own country turning their backs on them. Furthermore the media was highly frustrated with the fact that the team was in entire press lockdown, refusing to provide a glimpse of what was going on backstage. The new coach even refused to deliver the customary post match quotes. Now after a long period of harassing PEFA with petitions, a exclusive interview was agreed to between Port Ember Times and the new Coach.

Interview with Coach Kent Block By The Port Ember Times

Erica Davies: Good evening Coach. I must admit that it's a great honor to finally be allowed to speak to you after the media shutout the last month. Let me also be the first of the media to personally congratulate you on your appointment as the new Head Coach and Manager.

Coach Kent Block: Yes thank you Erica.

Erica Davies: So Coach, the question on everyone's lips - why the media shutout for the last month?

Coach Kent Block: Oh that's simple Erica. The media did not - and in my opinion still does not- deserve a moment of my teams time. The media loves to jump on the bandwagon when we are doing well, so that you can use us as a cash cow. But when the going gets tough, you quickly call the wolves upon us and sells us out. Your kind has no integrity. No loyalty. Real life vultures.

Erica Davies: Wow Coach, that's some really harsh words, which will undoubtedly ruffle some feathers.

Coach Kent Block: Harsh? No Erica, that was the most diluted possible response I could muster. And its okay if it ruffles some feathers. The vultures needs to hear it. And piss me off again, Il shut down the media again. The fans will come out and support us if we continue to play well, despite what the media leeches has to say.

Erica Davies: Wow, I must admit this new brash attitude from management is a lot to take in. Anyway Coach, let's try to remain professional and speak about football. Everyone wants to know how the team is holding up emotionally after this shocking times.

Coach Kent Block: Typical journalist. Fine. The team is obviously still affected by the latest events. They are mourning their friend and Captain, and they are angry and broken about Murray's savage betrayal. They are also hurt with Stuart Baxter disappearing on them when they needed him the most. You know most of these lads are orphans and have accepted him as their father. So his disappearance hurt. But the most important thing to take from this is that the lads are true blooded Port Emberians. They are strong stubborn preserverant warriors. They are supporting one another and focusing on their jobs and on the future. The path to healing will be a long one. But one which is being taken as we speak.

Erica Davies: That is actually quite the good news. Now something a bit closer to home, appointing you was quite an absolute shocker to the world, since you hold no previous experience. There have been wide ranging speculation and conspiracies. Please clear this up for us. Are you personal friends with PEFA Chairman Peter White, and why were you chosen for this job?

Coach Kent Block: Yeah, this is one of the points where the media vultures hammered on to try and rake up sales, betraying the team. Instead of coming out to ask us in a polite manner you tried to sell us out and call for our heads. But fine. Yes I am indeed a personal friend of Peter, and he offered me the job because he knew what I was capable off. There's no foul play involved. Why did I get the job instead of a professional coach? That's simple, the team's problems were not football related. They were a fractured ill disciplined bunch suffering from trauma and depression. No professional Coach could solve that problem. I could, because I know people and I know how to forge unity and discipline. 6 wins in a row is proof of that concept, so to hell with those who wants to bitch about me not having experience.

Erica Davies: I can see that the media is going to love you and your no nonsense brashness.. So Coach, how did you do it? How did you manage to turn a broken squad into a squad with 6 consecutive wins seemingly overnight?

Coach Kent Block: Again, that's why I was hired Erica. As you delvers know, I have spend my entire life as a special forces operator. There you learn how to forge discipline. How to build unity and teamwork. How to push aside emotion and overcome yourself. Its life and death. So simply put, I applied some simple techniques and helped the lads to help themselves. They are the ones to thank for their steamrolling performance at the moment, I'm just there to help out.

Erica Davies: I see.. So Coach - next up is Tequilo. Any thoughts?

Coach Kent Block: Oh yes I do. They are a good little squad with ambition. Unfortunately for them our ambition shines a bit brighter. We need to avenge our previous draw against them, and will go to war if need be. I dont want a win here, I want a smash.

Erica Davies: Well that was an.. interesting take. Thank you for your time Coach and good luck!

Group 3 Matchday 16: Adyatin 2-5 Chromatika @ Adyatin
Chromatik Scorers: Andisori, K. ('2, '29), Kelly ('41), Kuznetsov ('64), Kim, M.J. ('85)
Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Nichols; Ruth - Anderson - Ken - Nocturne; Limones - Zuniga; Kelly - Mora - Croix-Pierre; Andisori, K. (C).
Substitutes: Kuznetsov -> Croix-Pierre ('49), Kim, M.J. -> Mora ('65), McBee -> Ruth ('73)

ADYATIN -

Don't get too excited yet, but with a 5-2 win away at Adyatin, the Chromatik Anomalies are on a four-game winning streak where they've scored eighteen goals in four matches and conceded only three; this recent stretch of form has put the team at a record of 7-1-7 and eight points off of second-placed Eshan, who lost to group-leaders Eura 3-1. This result, coupled with Terre Septentrionale's 3-3 draw with Savojarna, places Chromatika in sixth place and still having an outside chance at qualification, especially with games against Eshan, Savojarna, The Sarian, and Eura still remaining - four of the five teams that Chromatika finds itself behind.

The new system of having blocks of players play a set number of games together seems to be working out, especially with this current bunch - after scoring four goals against Sanctanus, the same eleven got three more on the board before impact substitutions of Kuznetsov and Mi Jung Kim led to two more goals in the second half. Keira Andisori scored her fifth goal in two matches - an expected result of sorts when the most decorated player in Chromatik history goes against lower-ranked teams, but a needed one given how the team has fared before this recent stretch.

With matches against The Jovannic and Wanarpu remaining before the approaching key stretch against Eura, Northwest Kalactin, and Eshan, Chromatika will try to make it six straight with all the momentum on their shoulders. The third set of players includes regular starters in Mia Ria, Henri de Aea, Enigma Armageddon, and Jazmin Dragana; with close second choice players like Rowena Sierra and Molly Thorben, the only question marks remain Theodore Rondeau and Kateryna Zuniga; Evans and Everdeeen will have the capacity to make changes as needed, but it will be a chance to see how those two can handle the stress of playing the likes of Eura, Northwest Kalactin, and Eshan.

But first, a revenge match against unranked The Jovannic is on the horizon. Chromatika lost to the side 4-3 in the first leg, a result that many can call one of the most shocking in the nation's footballing history; A packed field in Z'ai'ai will hope that Chromatika puts the upstarts back in their place and moves a step closer to making Group 3 have a photo finish.

With every step being crucial - and having absolutely no room for error - there will be tremendous football to watch, at least.

As the Kandorese team picked up the pace again they faced Xanneria away, a big match for Hayabusa and the Lotus Warriors. There was a painful defeat the last time these two teams meet but at this point it seemed to be at a balance. Kandorith managed to hold a four goal draw bringing the final score to 2 - 2. Hayabusa himself was cautiously optimistic about the draw and did not bring the attention away from the fact the Kandorese team has to win almost all other matches to still have a change of ending in the top two of the group.

"The team has proven themselves again, I would have prefered a win, but it ended in a tough draw." Hayabusa exclaimed. "I think there is still work to do and we can not rest easy after the draw. There are a couple of large obstacles in our way still and we are on the right path. Looking onward we have to keep our minds strong. I think there could have been more in this match, but sadly we have to be glad with the draw. It could have been worse and I am still proud of the team nonetheless. From here on we will have our eyes on that goal of reaching the second place.

"It is a very tough task and it might seem impossible, although I firmly believe we can steal the show. We have done it before and we can do this again. We just need to play at the top of our skill and show the rest of the teams in our group why we earned the nickname 'warriors'. For the nation there is much at stake and a lot of people are hopeful of the team. I do not want to disappoint anyone and I want to show the Kandorese people that I deserve to be the manager of the national team."

Her Imperial Majesty Abroad

At first rumours started circulating the Empress would visit Xanneria as she expressed the idea of watching a match of the national team abroad, now it seems it was more than just a rumour. Just before the match started the imperial delegation was spotted at the stadium as the Kandorese fans cheered for the Empress. The team cautiously paid their respects during the national anthem. As always Empress Masumi seemed very in her element while watching the game, sometimes even forgetting she is the head of state as she joined the cheers during goals and groaned in frustration during near misses from the Kandorese attacks. It shows the nation Empress Masumi is not just our head of state, but also shares the nation's passion for football when the national team plays on the international stage of the world.

Furthermore information started circulating that the Empress will be visiting the Blouman Empire during the match against Kandorith in the capital of Grona on request of the Blouman imperial family. This would mark the first real international visit for Her Imperial Highness and is seen as a symbol of the first real Kandorese international footstep since the restoration of the imperial throne. Empress Masumi herself already expressed her excitement and will be making sure she will read into Blouman history to have something to talk about. No further details on any cultural exchange are known yet, but it is a significant moment for both the current parliament and the imperial household.

An Interview with Ewald Heuser

The Stelburger Zeitung continues our interview series this week with an interview with FC Teussen Stelburg and national team goalkeeper Ewald Heuser. At age 23, Heuser has become one of the top young goalkeepers in the world, and has been a key player for the national team so far in World Cup 85 Qualifiers. We sat down with him at his apartment in Stelburg for an interview before the Goldhorns’ next trip abroad.

Stelburger Zeitung: Thanks for hosting us, Ewald.

Ewald Heuser: Of course, no problem.

SZ: Let’s start with the national team situation. It was a special night at the Nationalstadion, with Michael Ribbeck getting that late winner over Abanhfleft. Is that goal something that can inspire you guys for the rest of the Qualifying campaign?

EH: I think so, you saw how much that moment meant to us on the pitch and the great fans in the stands as well. It’s always nice to take a bit of momentum forward, and that was a tough game for us - we trailed for a long time, so to fight back like we did is a huge confidence boost.

SZ: You yourself Ewald have had a great campaign so far. It’s been 7 starts for you in Qualifiers and 3 clean sheets, with only one loss so far. What has been the biggest factor in your stellar play so far?

EH: A lot of it is obviously down to my teammates, you look at Karl-Heinz (Jager) and Raphael (Klopfer) for one thing, they’ve been incredible every time I’ve been behind them. I think I’ve been able to have a big impact on my own as well, though, everyone knows I like to play the ball, and I think that my ability on goal kicks and helping build out from the back has been important to the team as well.

SZ: Ever since you’ve taken the #1 shirt for the national team, many pundits have claimed that you have the opportunity to really run with it and make it yours for many years to come. Is that something you’re confident in?

EH: I wouldn’t be at this level if I didn’t have that competitive drive! No of course, it’s an honour to wear the #1 shirt for your country and I try to give my best performance every time I’m out there. There’s a lot of great keepers we’ve got, though, you look at Anatoli (Sveteikov), Yanko (Zhelyaskov) and Samuel (Hartstein). Then there’s a few more young ones coming through - Lino Kaberle’s got a bright future for sure. I’m not thinking as much about what the competition looks like, though, I’m more focused on giving the best performances I can today.

SZ: Let’s shift over to your club career now. It’s been two seasons for you as the FC Teussen Stelburg starting keeper now, and two titles, including a league and Cup double. What enabled you to get off to such a good start?

EH: Well, I think a lot of us all came up through the academy at the same time - myself, Lukas (Tauscher), Mario (Kogler), Axel (Richter) and Heinrich (Bahr). And we’d had a great deal of success in the reserve and youth teams, and so I think it was natural that we immediately got down to business. I don’t know that we expected to achieve what we did in the first year all together, but that chemistry between us was a big help.

SZ: You replaced Julian Fehr at Teussen, the former national team goalkeeper and one of the country’s best keepers of the last few years. What did you learn from him?

EH: A lot about being a professional - how to act, how to eat, training methods, things like that. He’s obviously a veteran of the game and playing at the highest levels, and so to have him as a mentor was really exciting for me, especially since I grew up watching him play.

SZ: Last season, you were named to the KarlingSport Galacticos Index longlist, as the youngest goalkeeper on the list. How special was that recognition for you?

EH: It was great - my goal has always been to be one of the better keepers in the world, and that’s an excellent way to start. It didn’t really sink in until I looked at some of the other names on the list, and to be in company like that is very special.

SZ: We mentioned before how in your first season as the starter for Teussen the club were able to win the league and Cup double. Does that rank as the best moment of your career so far?

EH: So far, definitely. That whole season was special, all the way down to the Cup Final - certainly wasn’t the best game of my career, but I think we entertained everyone with a 7-5 win. Our goal every year is to win as much as we can, though, at Teussen, and we’re proud to achieve that wherever we can.

SZ: Many of the biggest talents in Siovanija & Teusland have moved on from the Republikaliga to continue their careers - Thorsten Kramer, Ivo Romanov, Michael Ribbeck, Karl-Heinz Jager. Will Ewald Heuser be next on that list?

EH: I’ve got a contract at Teussen for another 2 years, so it’s not in the cards at the moment. I’m definitely not ruling it out in the future - I think everyone in the country saw Thorsten Kramer lift that Champions’ League trophy with 1830 Cathair and certainly that’s a big dream and something I want to achieve in my career.

SZ: Thanks for you time, Ewald.

EH: No problem, any time.

Siovanija & Teusland’s World Cup 85 Qualifying campaign continues as they travel to visit The Commuinist Republic of Chinatown. We’ll have full coverage as the Goldhorns continue to march on in World Cup Qualifiers. Come on you Goldhorns!

Sylestone lose... again

Postby Sylestone » Sun Jun 07, 2020 2:56 pm

Sylestone has lost another game, 1-0, this time to Flavovespia, but their supporters do feel like that they are certainly improving a little bit each game. Both sides played a good, defensive game and for once, the Appliances didn't resort to dirty tactics at all during the game. They played quite well and defensively for the first half, and Brick Wall only touched the ball three times during those 45 minutes. The second half, both sides played a little bit more aggressively, but Brick Wall lived up to his name with some excellent saves.
It was in the 94th minute, deep into injury time and in the last full minute of the game, that the one of Flavovespia's strikers decided to sit on the Sofa and not let it move at all. This presented a large hole in their defence and their left-mid chipped the ball over the top of the wall and into the goal. It was a disappointing game in the end, but the Sofa spoke with the media afterwards and vowed to beat the Flavovespians in their next clash. He did not mention his own dirty moves in other games.
Another interesting moment in the game was when the Mixer snuck the ball past Flavovespian's left defender only for the player to unplug him and stop him from scoring! He was not happy, but he acknowledged the tactic and kept on playing with much more wariness. The defeat was all the more disappointing due to the fact that the game was played at home, but like all Sylestonean soccer games, it was fun for the kids to watch and the game of soccer was the true winner of the clash.

Previous parts of the story: 1234567 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12 - 13 - 14.

“Although this question is not addressed to me, I must say no, you didn’t look like that. You were stunned by what you saw and felt in the museum, and they were terribly shocked by what they saw along the way, ”commented Keith. She paused and added: “I see clearly now, that we must take some serious efforts to work with visitors, so as not to put their nerves under such serious pressure. I knew that there are such things with tourists happened, but I thought that this was somehow connected with the characteristics of their personalities. But with the opening of air traffic, available data is growing rapidly and I clearly see that we in Trolleborg are missed some aspects... I can’t let the guests of the country receive such terrible blows and then spend a lot of time explaining our position. Well, now what would you like to do? Will you return to the museum? Or do you prefer walking and relaxing, maybe you want have something to eat or a play some football? ”

Wesley and Naomi chose to go to the magical, as rumour goes, tower watch, having completely forgotten to ask why the tourists they just met were so shocked.

Northern side of the main square of the historical core of the city was occupied by a rather gloomy-looking fortress,

Image

and on the eastern side there was a building with an extensive balcony, and detached clock tower. The balcony was well known to Wesley and Naomi: the players of the Trolleborg team, who won the BoF-71, which was held in their native Zwangzug, spoke to the enthusiastic crowd from this balcony, and they themselves performed when win something in the
Trolleborg-made computer game "WCQ-84", there was a video clip just for such a case.

Already about five minutes before the start of the show, decent number of people gathered, of all sorts and stripes, including significant number of tourists, almost all with luminous clouds and slightly winking triangular markers flying in the air. To the surprise of the guests from Zwangzug, quite a lot of reallly big, human-size cats also gathered, some of them moved on their hind legs, while others occupied a special small platform, from where it is more convenient for a everyone four-legged to watch over heads.

The bell sounded loudly, the performance began, and then Naomi and Wesley understood what exactly shocked those tourists at the monument.

KEEPING IT GOING
New Lusitania 1-0 Muradil
@Estádio da Pedreira, Braga (Att: 39 561)

The second round was now here as it was now time for Muradil to play in New Lusitania. The beautiful city of Braga would play host for this match in the quarry stadium. Since last time, New Lusitania had made one change with Azinheira returning once more. As the summer sun began to set over the baroque city in the way it does by the end of the season, the match was now under way. Unlike the previous match in Sevilha, despite the result - the game was different. Whilst with Astograth there were plenty of chances but two teams playing to the best of their ability, in Braga New Lusitania kept missing chance after chance after chance and whilst the win is arguably deserved, the fact of the matter is that you could feel very frustrated with this match, but could also say it had the potential to be a higher scoreline. In the first half alone, Jota missed an open goal and another good chance whilst Paciência somehow hit the bar in an inexplicable situation meaning that by halftime it was all still level. In the second half, things seem to pick up slightly. Muradil would attempt to draw first blood in the closing half however to only have it blocked. The goal would nerve-rackingly come in the final ten minutes of the game. It would be yet another goal for Jota in a cycle where he has shined, with the goal coming from the home side player himself Horta as the Quarry filled itself with immense noise and celebration. The Selecção would eventually hold it long enough for the win with the final result being held by the single goal. FULL TIME: 1-0

Around The Grounds
All remains the same as New Lusitania remains fifth two points from second following one of their weaker performances, which was a win nonetheless. Turori's bye meant literally nothing as the gap was already huge with Audioslavia and Sajnur still in joint second following victories against TJUN-ia and Jeckland away (0-1) as Astograth got themselves a good enough win at Necosia (1-2). The EOT failed to grab points in a loss at Villablanca by 4-2 as Natanians and Nosts were promoted back up to sixth following their win against Porticalia by 1-0.

Defeat Dooms The Red Wolves

Timuria 1–3 Kelssek
Vatan Ercetin (78);Colm Ó Tuathail (13), Brayden Custworth (39, 51)

by Tufan Nursultan

The Red Wolves chance of qualification has probably disappeared before them as they fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Kelssek. The Red Wolves failed to get a foothold in the match at all, never once threatening to take the lead or even come close to the quality of their opponents. The dismantling was so comprehensive as to make many believe that this defeat, their first in 10 will doom the squad.

The scoring was opened as Colm O Tuathail managed to turn the defence inside out and poked the ball past Iskender Nur who couldn't have done anything about the shot, such was the placement on the shot. The Red Wolves would get their first serious chance shortly after, Ismail Burhan sending the ball just wide.

The visitors would get their second goal as Custworth managed to outjump Kemal Colak and get a head to the ball, but that wasn't the end, Iskender fumbled the ball into his own net, leading to an embarrassing doubling of the visitor's lead.

The match would be put beyond doubt with Custworth doubling his money and scoring by putting the ball through the legs of Iskender. The Red Wolves would get their consolation as Vatan Ercetin's long range speculative effort found its way into the back of the net.

The result leaves the Red Wolves still in third place and gearing up for an away trip to Barunia who will be coming in off the back of an impressive 3-2 win over Audiaslania.

What They Said After The Match:

Bekir Altingunes: "It's disappointing that our unbeaten run is at an end, but this just gives us a chance to create a new one. Our fate can still be in our hands, if we win every match we can and put forward our best effort I'll be proud."

On a cold night, the Oberour Ar Moro national team welcomed the second-place team in Group 14, Qasden, to the Parade Grounds. And shortly after the game began, at the Institute of Particle Research, a small explosion occurred in a server room.

It was bizarre. On the security camera footage, a figure cloaked in black appeared as if from thin air in the blind spot under the camera and placed a small device on a particular spot on the wall, and then vanished. Five seconds later, the device exploded. The explosion disabled part of the room's inert gas fire suppression system, which allowed for a fire to last longer than it would. One server rack was destroyed, all the other servers had some amounts of damage. The overall effect would take time to figure.

"Was it terrorism?" Minister of Research Conmore des Paveillons asked?

"We can't discount anything," Commissaire Jehan de Coilli told him. "Though it's very small and specific, and we have heard no actionable threats to the IPR."

"And what about the explosive?" des Paveillons pressed. The Commissaire reviewed his notes before responding. "From what we can tell, it a very crude design of explosives. It appears to be a construction that can be found on the non-Oberour internet."

The Minister's voice went up an octave. "So you mean foreign involvement?"

"We can't discount anything, but it wouldn't be completely impossible for an Oberour to locate the instructions." Commissaire de Coillire replied, holding back a wince. He did not want to give a Minister any ideas. "We'll be working with our colleagues in the Intelligence Ministry to make any official determinations, and of course Rue Sempiternel is scraping information."

The Minister walked forward and got into the Commissaire's face, his voice an angry hiss. "You can rest assured, Commissaire de Coilli, that I will speak with Minister d’Aubigni directly. I want who did this found."

The Commissaire kept his face placid before he straightened his back and offered a salute. "Yes, Minister. Now if you'll excuse me."

A still agitated Minister des Paveillons waved him away. The Minister had others to meet. He quickly made his way to the Director's office, which had multiple officials within it.

"How could someone get into the server room?" The question was directed to the head of the security office, who was sitting down looking distraught, partially because of the massive failure and partly because of the waves of abuse that had come his way.

"As I told you, we have reviewed the video record, the various security systems, and there is no record, no evidence, of anybody entering the server room."

"And yet they did." The Comte de Brumes spoke up. No one had noticed him enter the director's office, but his silken voice emerged from a chair on the corner. "So this failure needs to be explained."

The security head was exasperated. "We're reviewing the server room, the halls, the rooms around it, the ventilation system, the site plans, if there's a way to enter, we'll figure it out."

The Comte was up and approaching him in a flash, furious. "Figure it out? It needs to be determined now!"

"Comte!" Dr. Caterine Forestier spoke for the first time, still sitting at her desk. She had been silent, unable to comprehend why this attack had happened.

Instantly, Comte de Brumes was back to his civilized self, started to pace around the room. "Why the server room? Why would you attack that particular room?"

The Minister, feeling clever, answered the question. "If you mean that that room, in particular, was attacked, the obvious answer is because of what is on those servers."

The Comte rubbed his chin. "And what is on those servers? Research from experiments that have been run thus far?"

The head of information technology spoke up. "The research data isn't stored there, that gets shipped out to be reviewed and interpreted. That room is the guts of HIERATIC."

Comte de Brumes walked faster with exaggerated steps, putting his arms behind his back, "Those servers have the code for HIERATIC that runs it. Why would they want to prevent HIERATIC from operating?"

A confused Caterine couldn't help but ask "They?" but she was drowned out by the Comte answering his own question

"They're scared of what we'll find."

Comte de Brumes stopped, in the middle of the room, surrounded by the officials of IPR, most of whom he had personally selected. This wouldn't be stopped now.

"Whoever did this, they won't attack the same way. But still. We need more back-ups of information, off-site but under our control. Increase security in the facility, more cameras, additional capacities. We need to have multiple eyes on us every minute of every day. Whoever did the attack knew at least where to place the explosive. Blueprints and facility details need to be wiped off the regular internet. That information was used to get in, so we need to prevent that going forward. And we must resume our work immediately."

"Immediately?" Caterine spoke up again. "I want us to be back to work but this is a major incident, we shouldn't rush-"

The Comte was on her again, anger flashing "Are you giving in to them Caterine?"

Caterine stepped back abashed and confused. "Who is Them?"

The anger disappeared again. The Comte was all grace and class. "Your work, Caterine, your brilliant work, is too important to be pushed aside by criminals. I don't want anyone to have a veto on your brilliance." He turned around and addressed the room. "Let us return to our important work as soon as is possible."

The collected staff and officials agreed and gathered their papers to leave, while Caterine stood completely in this strange man's shadow. For the first time, which she realized was bizarre, she wondered who this man actually was.

As Oberour Ar Moro and Qasden went into their locker rooms for the half, Erica Reclus turned her small room upside down. As the announcers briefly discussed the first half, she tried to locate a copy of the IPR blueprints. Locating those prints were hard earned, and suddenly they were gone. She had used them to find a weak spot in HIERATIC, to try and stall for desperately needed time. She suddenly understood and sank to the floor. The blueprint wasn't there because it had never been there. She had found the blueprints in the future, but the future had changed, and the blueprint was no longer there to be found in the future. She cursed herself. Of course they would lock down that kind of information. She looked at the obsidian device sitting by the television. Did anything change for the better?

Chaos and Disorder After A & C Loses 2, Ties 1
Edinburgh, Alba

Alba and Cymru suffers back-to-back losses and a tie in three tight games to solidify its position in 11th place out of 13 teams in its World Cup Qualifiers group. Reckless fans and extrajudicial militias have taken to the streets of Alba's major cities to express their concerns over the team's performance.

Alba and Cymru traveled to the obscure nation of Wanarpu to take on the most-struggling team in Group 3, but a seemingly incompetent offense on the Celts' behalf came out of the game scoreless, despite previous predictions for a victory. Alba and Cymru had several opportunities to appear on the scoreboard, but a combination of poor passing and excellent defensive work on the other side of the ball kept the Celts from making their mark.

Cadoc ApGlywys made his debut appearance in the World Cup, and put on an excellent performance. In the dying minutes of the match with Wanarpu, as both teams remained scoreless, ApGlywys and Not Messi broke through the ranks of the Wanarpu defenders, making excellent passes between themselves and midfielder Carlos Meireles. Meireles passed the ball to Weiss, leading the defense to the left as ApGlywys maneuvered right. Weiss sniped the ball across to an open ApGlywys, who takes a pin-point shot to the upper right corner of the goal. Alas! The Wanarpu goalie was quick enough to defend the shot just in time before the ball passed the goal line. The game soon ended with a dead scoreboard.

"For now on, it's really no biggie," said team captain Conchúr MacGregor. "We're just trying to get wins where we can, but our top priority now is to prepare for the future. Our young guys saw a lot of field time today, and I think they showed out very well."

Alba and Cymru fans made their voices heard the following day, as many reports of vandalism had surfaced in the business areas of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Bars and other small businesses suffered the receiving end of the fans' fury. Insurance estimates for repairs following the riots totals into the tens of millions, but the trouble does not stop there. Extremist groups, including the infamous Orthoslighean State of Great Britain and Ireland, or better known by their acronym SOBE, have been responsible for at least a dozen kidnappings during the riots. Shortly after, SOBE released a grotesque propaganda video showing three extremists and a male hostage, who has been identified as an Alba and Cymru national, as he is sacrificed. Authorities have located the site of the video but have not found the whereabouts of the terrorists. Another sacrificial alter with a deceased individual was discovered in the following hours just outside of Edinburgh. Human sacrifice has been outlawed in Alba and Cymru since the 18th century, but extremist sects of the Orthoslighean denomination of Creideamh continue to practice this act in the present-day. Authorities continue to search for the hostages, and it remains uncertain of how many hostages there are, and whether any of them are foreign visitors.

"This is a national tragedy," expressed the Chief Margrave of Justice Conall MacDougal. "Alba and Cymru promised the people visiting from afar that our country is completely safe. Unfortunately, we were unable to uphold our end of the promise. As of now, we must mobilize and locate the whereabouts of the missing. Ultimately, we need to bring these terrorists who have organized this act to justice. Every day that this is not our top priority, SOBE gets one step ahead. It's time to jump on this issue and resolve it immediately."

Game stats for Alba and Cymru (1-2-1):
Group rank: 11th
Shots: 9
Goals: 0
Possession: 53'
Saves: 7
Fouls: 9
Yellow: 0
Red: 0
No notable injuries

The Orthochronica
Chapter 141, "An Fhearg" (The Animus)

This prophecy was given to Neill in the early days of his ministry (c. 922), and it foretells an enemy of the East rising up to conquer the world in the final days before the Requiem.

The Word of the Dagda, as it concerns the Heavens and the Earth:

1 This is My word. Beware of those who will come from the East!
2 They will seek to make war with animus. They will seek to pillage your countries.
3 For this enemy will tighten their grip over the Old Country1. But they will continue to drive forward,
4 Taking peace from the Earth, with Persia and with Libya.
5 And the arms of every nation will be against them, but will not be able to stop them.
6 Only the power of the Dagda will subdue them in the ensuing Requiem.
7 And from thereon, they will sleep only in the plains of Elysium. This is My word.

Forced Change in Direction
They moved in during the second half of the 95X upset of Starblaydia. International police carried out a search warrant in the 95X locker room as the team played the second half. The 95Xers were celebrating their win and ending a three-consecutive-draw slump. 95X Head Coach Katelynn State was interviewed by the sideline media as they congratulated her for what they felt was a largest win thus far in the qualifying campaign.

The coach and players were on their way to the locker room and thinking of getting out of their sweaty gear when they were shocked that people in suits were rifling through their personal items. One large man in a suit quickly walks up to State holding up a piece of paper while two others surround and handcuff her.

"Katelynn State," he says, "you are under arrest for multiple counts of bribery, extortion, fraud, and facilitating others' crimes of the same charges."

"You can't do this!", an assistant coach attempts to intervene, she is also immediately surrounded and handcuffed.

"You are under arrest for interfering with law enforcement," the large man says.

"Everyone else, you are free to go," the man continues as he and the other law enforcement leave, taking the two they arrested with them.

The rest of the locker room was stunned.
An emergency meeting was declared the next day at 95X National Team Headquarters, to discuss the options.

"Alright, so we have unanimously voted to relieve the Head Coach from her duties. Moving forward, I recommend we withdraw from the World Cup," one of the women said, straight-faced. "We're obligated to field a team for the remainder of the qualifiers, naming an interim Head Coach and playing the remaining games seems like the best option."

"Why do we have to withdraw," another rebutted. "We can name an interim coach and carry on. We're in the middle of one of the best qualifying campaigns in history."

So they voted on withdrawing the team after the qualifying round. The result was a tie. It came down to Xerica Eightysecond, who also served as the administrative head of international sports for 95X. Her mouth hung open for a moment, then she spoke:

POV: You’re a journalist in the presence of Lükækš Væñøœrëñbérghüïś

Journalist #1: ”Cameras ready?”

Cameraman: ”Yup. Cameras are indeed ready.”

Journalist #1: ”Right, that’s good. Lükækš, you ready?”

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś: ”Ready as I’ll ever be.”

Journalist #1: ”Right. Well, start recording!”

Cameraman: ”Roger. Rolling... now.”

Journalist #1: ”Hello! I’m here with Lükækš Væñøœrëñbérghüïś, the manager of the Vdaran national team. Now, the national team are just back off of a loss to Xanneria, so how are you feeling about this next game?”

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś: ”Well, you never feel too confident off the back of a loss, especially when you’re up against a team you’ve lost to before, no? What I have to say to the fans, however, is to not lose confidence in the team, and get behind them at every opportunity. This will definitely help players’ morale, and will definitely make me feel a lot more comfortable too.”

Journalist #1: ”Right. Are you going to be playing Galanatos and Kairakos in this game as well?”

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś: ”At the end of the day, that’s my decision and mine only. I do what I feel is right, and only when I feel it is right.”

Journalist #1: ”Right, good. Thanks for your time!”

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś: ”You are very much welcome.”

Journalist #1: ”Aaaaaaaand cut! Hey, camera boy, did the picture look alright?”

Cameraman: ”All fine.”

Journalist #1: ”Good, good. Let’s get that sent to HQ.”

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Chatter bellowing in the well furnished catacombs known as to public officials as “the basement.” Deputy Helmutov walked inside fashionably early. Indeed. It was only the Law Deputy, the President. Men poured into the meeting room, and few older ladies were in the stream of bodies. “We got a good headline today,” the president said, combing his hair and everyone sat down, “Now!” said suddenly, “Most of you know what we’re going to discus.” The president, known to the public as, “Little Panzyak” stood up, as did the room. There was a baggie with a piece of paper inside. “Luckily for us I have my hands on a secret. Intelligence reports that this letter was sent to my office a week ago and intercepted.” The president held up the paper. “You all know that green stripe on the side. I have plenty of people over thirty in the room. What is this?” one man piped up “Green Order.”

“Mr. Helmutov,” the president said holding back a chuckle, “would you happen to know who or what the Green Order is?” the Deputy looked his boss square in the eye, “certainly sir, we owe our carers to them.” The president tossed over the baggie. “You were their lawyer,” the president told the minister, “did they ever write letters to you like this one?” The Deputy inspected the letter. The president spoke up, “We kept it sealed because it has to be inspected for any biological evidence.” While the deputy looked over the letter he kept noticing the word, “Revenge,” was added in with a stand, while he rest of the note was penned by hand. “Sir,” the deputy of law said, “This is authentic looking.” The president extended his hand and took back the bag, producing a second one with a new letter. “The stripe you see is exactly the same, that’s the memo which was used to order in reinforcements. You see there? The same green stripe.”

One of the men in the room spoke up, “So our newfound political divisions are thanks to a band of revolutionaries.” “No,” Helmutov interrupted, “No, sir. That letter was is an authentic copy. The Green Order disbanded after the trial twenty two years ago.” A woman chimed in “They were our heroes.” The president looked over the room, pointing to the lady who just spoke “Jowana, they were our revolutionaries. A few of you in the room were in the order. They’re requests were simple, democracy and more democracy. They were almost destroyed, but a few brave people saved them in court.” Deputy Helmutov put his head down speaking humbly, “We were lucky to have the system evolving before our eyes.” The president sat down, and the room followed. “Sir,” said a corse voice emanating from the Deputy of the Military, Mr. Iwan Welimirwić, “do you believe an insurgency is taking place within Military police? We can conduct an internal investigation.” The president shook his head, “No.” an advisor to the president said, butting into the conversation, “Intelligence agencies believe this is from outside the military. We will need this to be handled by an outside investigator.”

The room was silent, the situation was bizarre to say the least. “Is there any chance this blows over?” Helmutov asked. The president answered, “Police are not popular in this country, but neither are socialist picketers.” The president looked at a few cabinet members who identified with the left and smiled nervously, “We need to avoid anymore drama. Counter protests were staged to take place in the city today. There’s extra eyeballs on us, there’s international sporting events taking place in this city. Tourism numbers won’t stay up if people think we’re going to tear gas them. They also won’t want to come if they feel that neo-socialists will attack them with tent poles. A bunch of government infiltrators doesn’t help matters.” The Prime Minister, still red in the face from the morning paper, blow out of his mouth and began to give his commentary, leaning his arms onto the table, “We will have to develop a response. Parliament has been accusing you personally of strong arm tactics. As much as think we’d like to handle this situation ourselves, those outside of the inner workings of this government has to be involved in a solution.” The president nodded, “Then we should avail ourselves to an outside the box solution. I assume the opposition would like to help select an independent investigator.”

One member cabinet made his voice heard, “Why did you bring us into the meeting then, sir? We all knew parliament would investigate law enforcement with the full cooperation of the Law Department. With all due respect, we had no reason to interrupt our docket.” “With all due respect you did.” a voice said in the shadows of the room, it was the president’s pointy chined advisor Luka, “All fifteen of you are connected to this case. Either you can bring Crowd Control Units to bear under the, ‘Security Delegation Law,’ or you have connections to the old Green Order. No one in the intelligence community believe any of you are responsible by name, but we believe someone here is at the root of this issue. It may seem inconvenient, but you must keep track of your actions. If our instincts are to be believed one of you will do something suspicious. We don’t mean to offend. However in what could become trying times we all have to do our part to maintain our government.” The cabinet member who had just spurred on the speech smiled “I assume the intelligence community will be keeping tabs on itself. You spies need to stop being suspicious of us. I didn’t risk my life to end the old regime just to be watched from the shadows.” “In any event,” the president said standing up, “An investigation from parliament will require that we overturn anything requested. I expect everyone to be compliant, and the Prime Minister agrees. I don’t think anyone has any more questions. I have a phone call planned with the mining company.”

Deputy Hemutov left the meeting with a degree of disappointment. He knew it was unlikely he would be allowed to research the crisis, but he didn’t believe he was really a suspect in a corruption case. As he left the public building rain was pouring down, “an umbrella is essential to have at all time” a man said. There was only one person who could speak like that, Luka. “I have a double wide if you would like.” he said, “I’ll just run for it, thank you,” Deputy Helmutov bitterly replied, walking away. Luka gave chase, “I insist sir, there is something we need to discuss.” With no way to avoid either wet or sore ears, the Deputy opted for the letter option. Luka was usually talkative, and he gave an apology for suspecting Deputy Helmutov. “I never suspected you or your office were involved, but my agency insisted you be involved in proceedings. I don’t trust the rumored investigators for this incident, and I believe you would be best.” “That’s a change of tune,” Deputy Helmutov said sarcastically, prompting his umbrella bearer to stop, “If you keep up with this case, you will realize only you have the knowledge to solve it. If you want to avoid this issue, go ahead. Just submit your office’s activities, and we’ll take our chances with a lawyer from Porto Nowi. If you change your mind, your human playthings called staffers know my number.” With that, Luka siloed away, leaving Deputy Helmutov in the rain.

South Charlia 1–1 Delaclava
@ some hellhole in the Rejected Realms

DEL, Durbridge (pen.) 13'. SCH, Bull Shit (Seriously no other goals, South Charlia hasn't logged on in sixteen days or posted in six weeks but that's none of my business. Anyway...) 18'.

Delaclava Lineup: Thompson; Davis, V. Gusev, Joseph; Girardi, Ritchie, Durbridge; Bates (Campbell 46'); Walters, Mullins (Howard 46'), A. Gusev (Meyer 46').

The events take place the morning after the previous RP, before the Sarzonia match in Manchester.

Ryan Keating was the first one to get up the next morning. He wasn't like any of his partying friends - somehow, no matter how late he was up, his body was habitually ready to go just shortly before the sun rose everyday. He supposed it was from years of private school, getting woken up at the crack of dawn either by his parents or by school staff.

Plus, while he was hardly motivated to continue on with the Phoenixes, he still wanted to keep his skills sharp - who knew what the future held for his career. He slipped quietly out of the bed, so as not to wake the five other men still sound asleep, although he doubted anything could wake them at this hour.

A few minutes later, he was dressed in running gear, slipping on his shoes, and headed to the fridge for a nip of cold brew before he hit the beach for a run. He looked out into the living room.

It was a disaster. Sticky liquor, sweat - and was that a bit of Cocoa-bo? I sure hope no one got hurt, Ryan thought - caked the once pristine hardwood floor. Ryan was hardly shocked, but it did seem that his crew had gotten more debaucherous than ever. He shook his head as he headed out the balcony and down the stairs.

Seventy-five minutes and ten miles later - he was definitely shaking some rust off today - Ryan came back around in front of the house. He took off his shoes, stepped forward into the water, and took a long look at the sunrise that had been unfolding, that he had only been glancing at for the last while.

He stared out, fully aware of how much he was enjoying this moment by himself, and fully aware of how much he did not want to rejoin the team later that week in Manchester. He'd been living the dream, playing at the highest level of football, but his team would be taking the field in front of 110,000 Cyaneans at a brand new stadium, and he'd be watching just like everyone else.

He was ashamed to admit it to himself, let alone anyone else - but he wasn't sure he was cut out for the fight anymore.

Right now, he was just enjoying this wisp of peace - he'd oddly been so lonely while with the team, but less so now, although it still felt incomplete.

Ryan turned around and headed back into the house, where the others were starting to stir. Ryan set himself up in the kitchen, preparing coffee and breakfast as one by one, his overnight guests came out of the master bedroom - Jorge, Craig, Chase, and Nick - and Ryan made small talk as each one came out for a bite to eat, a bit of flirting and messing around, before they hit the road. At some point, three girls who Ryan had not remembered ran out of the guest room, and giggled bashfully when they saw that they hadn't gone unnoticed. Ryan laughed and offered them breakfast too, but they instead hurriedly thanked him for a good time and left, still holding half of their clothes.

Finally, Ryan slid some eggs and bacon on a plate, Lisquean dark roast into a tall, thin copper mug, and walked back into his bedroom.

"Good morning, sleepy," he called out playfully to the last lump of blankets and pillows, which were covering up Daniel.

Daniel stirred and unearthed himself, winced slightly at the now-intense light outside, then smiled at Ryan. Ryan and Daniel had actually met pretty recently - Daniel was one of the first neighbors Ryan met after Ryan bought the beach house, which was shortly after a big bonus he'd received when Cleopatrana SC took home the league title in a massive upset. They'd stayed in touch somewhat even as Ryan was traveling around Atlantian Oceania and the world over the past few months.

"Ugh, I am never drinking again," he said,

"You say that every time," Ryan said, handing Daniel his breakfast and leaning into him for a kiss. He then reached into the dresser and got out a bottle of water, which he tossed lightly into the blankets near Daniel.

"Have a good time last night?"

"Uh, yeah?" Daniel said with confusion. "I don't remember a whole lot. What I remember was nice though," he laughed.

"What's with the Cocoa-bo on the ground out there? I didn't realise that was going on."

"Oh yeah, a few douches came in trying to spike drinks and take advantage of the girls that came. Some of us caught them and tossed them out - sorry, we made a mess of it out there."

"No problem," Ryan replied with relief.

They talked a bit more about the party, and all the wild stuff that had gone down. Ryan found himself totally at ease - he had Daniel's full attention, there was no agenda to this conversation, no messing around. It felt genuine.

There was a pause. Then Daniel asked, hopefully: "So how long are you here?"

"Well, not for long, right? I need to head to Manchester to restart practice before the second half of qualifying."

Then Ryan thought for a second. "Hey, why don't you come with me?"

Daniel was puzzled. "Why? I'm going to see you again soon in Mariana. That's where the Competitive Solitaire game is, right?"

"Yeah, I'll see all of you there! It's going to be a lot of fun, a few of my teammates will get us all the hookup, everyone can meet and party. But I was thinking...just you. You should come with me on the Manchester trip."

"Uh..." Daniel was struggling for words. Finally, he gathered himself. "I mean, it'd be a bit weird, wouldn't it? It's not what we really do."

Ryan shook his head. "Look, that's what I'm offering. If you don't want to do it, that's fine. I just thought it'd be nice to spend some time with you."

"No, I get it, I... just don't think I should."

There was quiet a heavy lull this time. Then Daniel broke the silence, clearing his throat and saying, "Look, maybe I should head out. I've actually been planning a party tonight and I really need to get the house ready. You're more than welcome to come, of course."

"Thanks. Yeah, maybe."

Daniel stood up and got dressed. The two men didn't really say much else, and they shared a sort of awkward aborted smooch and semi-hug before Daniel left, leaving Ryan alone with a filthy, littered house and his thoughts - wondering if he was so misguided to seek that sort of single-minded, focused connection he suddenly realised he had been missing during all his adventures over the past weeks, even the past years.

Apparently the 1093rd post. Kel, you know what to do. :P

[OOC: post 1093!]

Franky was sitting in the visitor's dressing room at Atheburn Park in Grearia the day before their game. He was supposed to be getting ready to go on the field for practice, but there he was with one cleat unlaced, explaining to Raoul Lavigne in quiet tones what had happened at the time of the last national team game. A visit from a member of the FNRF's executive board was not something that happened often. That it apparently been brought on by just a couple social media posts of his confirmed Franky's worst fears.

"Look Raoul, if it wasn't a big deal, the federation wouldn't be getting involved. Clearly, it's an important issue."

"Yeah, it sounds like it. LaVoyard himself came up to your hotel room? And you didn't even mention it to anyone at the time?"

"Well, Emanuele knew. He was there."

"I'm surprised he didn't say anything either."

"I think it's a bit awkward for him. We don't see eye-to-eye about the whole thing and I think he'd rather just not talk about it."

"He's probably just trying to preserve you two's friendship."

"Yeah, I definitely appreciate that. I'd hope our friendship could survive a difference of opinion though."

"No offense, but you do seem to be taking this super seriously. I can see why he'd be worried about getting on the wrong side of you. Like with LaVoyard, for instance: I imagine that was a pretty fisty conversation, especially considering he works for Reçueçn FC."

"Actually, that didn't come up, which now that you mention it, is kind of a surprise, given how big that rivalry is. But yeah, we had enough to argue about. And don't you see? If LaVoyard is personally coming to my hotel room to debate with me, they've got to be covering something up!"

Just then Emanuele Cutrona and Freeman Lebo came back into the dressing room to grab a couple duffle bags that had been left behind.

"You guys are still here? You're missing warmups, they've already started," said Freeman.

Emanuele, however, could tell instantly by Franky's hushed voice what the pair was talking about. He walked over to them. "You guys need to let this drop. Franky, you know what I think, but even if you're right, worrying about it when you're supposed to be practicing won't help. If there's teams out there doping, then we need to be at our best or we'll never stand a chance."

"Oh, this crap again?" Freeman had overheard, and he, for one, had no worries about keeping his voice down. He strode over now as well. "Look, Franky, if you're so convinced by this crackpot Barsanuphius guy—if Cocoa-bo is really a performance-enhancing drug and yet nothing is being done to stop it, then why aren't you taking advantage? You should be chugging Cocoa-bo before games!"

"No, that's exactly the point!" insisted Franky. "That would be cheating. I'm trying to stop the cheaters! It would be like if you were upset about the Valladarans testing nukes so you started launching your own."

Freeman probably couldn't have been more cynical. "Well, Mr. Fair Play the scientist, it sounds like you're missing out on a great opportunity here. I'm sure they sell Cocoa-bo around here. We could go out, buy you a couple bottles, and quit worrying about all this endurance training they're making us do."

"Why don't you do it then," said Franky. "If you're so sure Coca-bo does nothing, is harmless, why don't you chug a couple before the game tomorrow?"

Freeman laughed. "Alright. Deal. After practice the four of us will go shopping for Cocoa-bo and we'll see what happens tomorrow."

After practice, Freeman, Raoul, Emanuele and Franky all headed out onto the streets of Atheburn, looking for a convenience store. Soon enough they found one, the sort of cute little place that was obviously owned by the guy behind the cash register. Local, not a chain, but carrying a weird combination of brand-name snacks and weird knockoffs. Raoul found, of all things, a bobble-head of the Grearish head of state and was so charmed by its absurdity he decided to buy it as a souvenir.

Franky was worried briefly that they might not have Cocoa-bo in Grearia. But bodegas liked these seemed to exist outside of time and space, and always have that one weird thing you were looking for. Sure enough, in a glass-doored refrigerator tucked away in the back corner of the store, there were exactly six bottles of Cocoa-bo. Freeman reached in and grabbed four of them.

"You don't need to get one for me," said Franky, "I won't drink that stuff."

Freeman looked at the other three in the group. The number was just a coincidence. "No, these are all for me. I figure maybe you need more than one to see the effects."

"But four?" Emanuele was incredulous.

"Two for halftime," said Freeman.

That seemed fair to everybody, at least until they got to the counter and Freeman made Franky pay for them all. That seemed a bit excessive to Franky. But grudgingly, he complied. "It's your theory, after all," said Freeman.

They waited while Raoul paid for his bobble-head before starting back to the hotel. Game day could prove anything—or nothing.

Last time Reçueçn had played the Grearish Union, Franky had won an impressive hat trick in front of a sold out Stade Nationale. This time, playing as visitors, it might not be as easy.

Before the game started, Lebo threw back two of the four bottles of Cocoa-bo. All for of the scientists were starting, so there was some nervous laughter as they trooped onto the field.

From the get-go, Franky definitely didn't feel like things were going as well as last game. Grearia had gotten off to a rough start during qualifiers, but they seemed to have learned from what had happened—they'd improved. Reçueçn wasn't dominating the same way it had before. Last time the two sides met, Franky had credited his whole team for his hat trick, saying he wouldn't have been able to do it without them. This time the team was letting him down.

With one exception.

Lebo scored with only five minutes into the match. As he celebrated the goal, he ran over to Franky. Those on the sidelines couldn't hear what he was saying, but he pointed at Franky as if to say "I told you so." However, for the rest of the first half he seemed to cool down. It was one-nil forty-five minutes in, and Grearia was playing well.

At the break, Emanuele, Raoul and Franky watched as Freeman drank down the two remaining bottles of Cocoa-bo. "PEDs, do your thing," Freeman said.

"I can't believe you're doing this," said Franky. "You should worry about your health."

Lebo's health didn't seem to be suffering. A minute in, he got a pass from Hebron and made his way past three defenders to score a second goal. He looked at Franky and held up two fingers on each hand, laughing.

In the fifty-sixth, Reçueçn scored again. And once again, it was Freeman who scored, unassisted. It was the second hat trick a Reçuecian had scored against Grearia during these qualifiers, but this time it wasn't Franky who had done it. In fact, Franky had looked a bit weak all match, and Grearia outplayed Reçueçn in both passing and possession—interesting, since usually possession was les licornes' strong suit.

"I told you!" Franky said to Freeman after the game.

Lebo laughed him off. "Naw," he said. "This Cocoa-bo hoax is BS. I'm just that good."

Royal Train back to Quebec City
October 2043

Sir. Alexandre was busy reading through the files to be discussed with the monarch for the day, and at the same time just acknowledging on his own account in terms of his friend, a certain Dr. Heo Dong-Soo, who was asleep with a Quebecois-Petrogradian history book over his head. It was a basic matter of expectation that the Royal Train be used to transport the deceased monarch for the lying-in-state, when the passing happened within Mainland Quebec. The Royal Codes on the matter had seldom changed since the early 1900s, so you could imagine what kind of a hassle they had become in Modern Times as well, as the trains would be tracked in the modern age and had to be slowed down or accelerated per the mainland traffic that for past six decades included the High Speed Railway.

Sir. Alexandre had learned over his two decades of job with the Royal House that appreciating railway travel on job was a virtue of its own. Appreciating the slower pace of voyage was easy, but trying to get the work done was painful as well. You, being a secretary, would be dealing with not only the wellbeing of the Majesties and the accompanying members of the Royal Family, but also the staff as well, something that he, as someone with mild bouts of motion sickness, was not fun. More often than not the journeys would be less than 12 hours, but there would be times when he would have to travel for much longer than that. At their worst, the state trips involving the Royal Train would involve going to California City, Iqaluit, Prince Eric or Winnipeg, all major cities where the only downsides for most were their distant locations. He was much better travelling through those when younger, but those were the times when his wife and family were much younger. Nowadays he had to think about coming home earlier because of their kids' football games or cheerleader practices, and this was no fun for one.

'Well, how far are we from returning to Quebec City?' Dong-Soo quietly asked, his voice still very much in loose drools as he attempted to wake up from his light nap. He was always keen to attending events of the Royal House, but more often than not would also end up in misfortunate events. Of course, Sir. Alex had known about this chain of misfortunes with him here and there, and usually prepared something in advance so his friend would still continue his career well as a Royal Historian.

'Still eleven hours away,' Sir. Alexandre responded, utterly embarrassed but unsurprised at his friend's conduct. 'If I were you, dear friend, I would go back to your suite and have a night's rest because the train won't be arriving in Quebec City until seven.'

'Fair enough, but it's only eight.' Dong-Soo braced himself for a gentle warning from a friend. 'Will the Archives be ready for preparation of the subsequent events, and the Funeral? The lying in state should set and done, but a lot has changed in past twenty one years.' He asked, hoping that his friend would not scold him appropriately so.

'Well, that is not our matter of concern, as the Duke of Uashau, the Royal Marshal, should be the one handling, which you aren't one.' Sir. Alexandre watched his friend nod. 'And so you should not worry.'

'Excellent. Even after a year of employment here, it still amazes me how meticulous and prepared the Royal House can be….' Dong-Soo slowly got himself up to the front of his seat, smiling along the way.

Queen's College, Cornwall, Frontenac
Fall 2010

Heo Dong-Soo slowly let the smoke burn in the air, as he waited for his first-year academic mentor. He first picked up the habit halfway through his freshman year, and the fact that his collegiate season started just a week ago didn't help the matter either.

His second year at Queen's College was a significant matter of business, not just for Heo, but also the entire team. There was already a great stake at hand when he was the only fencer on the program who medalled on the nationals for past six seasons, but the risk was even greater when you combined it with the possibility of national team selections at hand. Of course he knew the luck was in his favour; it was only the previous summer's national team training camp, when William Yi, the national men's sabre team coach, told him that he, as the next in line of legendary Gaels sabreurs, expects Dong-Soo to be on the final four selection for the next Commonwealth Games' team. Of course the assurance was promising, but still he knew the weight was perhaps too great to handle at times.

'Je m'excuse..' Heo said with a small hand gesture as his mentor exited the building door. The mentor was meticulous in timing, as he exited the building door just ten minutes after the end of the session, and it always worked well in his favour. The mentor nodded and stopped right next to him, and pulled a cigarette from his pocket, ready to smoke. Of course, it wasn't until about a minute later that the fume went into their nostrils, and that they were feeling a bit of hinge from last night. They say that befriending their mentors while still undergoing a freshman program is bad and risky, and it's exactly because of influences like this; it was never just knowledge they would share, and more often than not, younger of the two or three would receive the brunt of the damage on either a pub or a dancehall.

'Still feeling exhausted?' Asked Alexandre, his mentor, who Dong-Soo drank with the previous night.

'As expected.' He slightly rolled his eyes as a sign of exhaustion. 'It's the same old, as you'd expect. Get breakfast, lie in bed, head to class, go straight to gym, and now here. All with little sleep.'

'Well, that's expected,' Alexandre lifted his facial muscle to the left, to give a smirk. 'Seems like you're still the very frosh you were the previous year.'

'yes, and that's why I was away on this morning's for the conservatives association...' Heo responded, making sure not to repeat himself on that. As with every normal country, there was nothing wrong with a college student being part of a conservatives association at an university. Still, they remembered how the big-C conservatives themselves had revolted against indigenous peoples up north and the Monarch, so four thousands of them got their head chopped off or sent to one of those underground prisons in the Arctic, so they had to be bit more careful in the framing. 'It's unfortunate, but you can still expect that from me.'

'There's nothing to bother,' Alexandre continued, not being the slightest bothered about this. 'You may wanna come the next time though.'

Heo raised his eyebrows, wondering what kind of an opportunity he may have brought this time around. Alexandre Kim, the son of a military commander, had went to Whimoon College and more often than not used his already-existent connections to bring people to this small Cornwall schools. So while Dong-Soo, already busy with his fencing career, had been resisting active involvement in the association, but the prospect of something good clearly perked his ears up.

'Perhaps this will give you the opportunity to meet the Crown Prince.' Alexandre commented, hoping that more progressive of the two would listen. 'His Royal Highness Pierre Henri, after much deliberation, have finally come to speak to us in an event. While it's already sold out to the capacity of 400 tickets, I'm sure you, being the loyal servant repping the country, would be interested.' Of course, it was a sign that Dong-Soo, however busy he had been, was still interested in royalty; he remembered that being one of the things that his junior said way back when, and that got his interest.

'Well why is he coming?' Dong-Soo asked, both surprised and curious.

'A state matter.' Alexandre replied. 'I do not exactly know, but I assume it's something to do with the newly finished station building.' Dong-Soo remembered how the train station had been under rebuilding for past four years he's been in town for competitions or schooling. 'You will like this, and he will be delighted to see certain descendant of a partizan who came from Joseon in year 1906. So make sure to be there.'

'Alright,' Dong-Soo earnestly nodded, having decided on his mind that he will skip the day's practice to attend the meeting. Of course, coach Lundrigan wouldn't like it, but he knew that he just had to work harder the rest of the week and deliver the results on the Niagara State University Open in two weekends time. It was a big one too, so obviously placing top three there would at least give him a pass for that missed practice. 'Anyways, are you hosting any party tonight?'

'Yes. My friends were orientation leaders back in September, so from what I know of them, they are hosting slosh-the-frosh tonight at my place tonight.' Alexandre spilled the details, before giving a gracious smile. 'Would you like to come?'

'Sure, sounds like a plan.' Dong-Soo nodded, before they took off to have a pint of beer at Jewell's, an on-campus bar at their Student Life Centre.

Both Hinode and Canvas walked down from the train station through the somewhat empty streets of their neighbourhood. The girl seemed to be all smiles from her interactions in class. Hinode was really unsurprised, even bored. "Your classmates really liked me, huh?" Hinode nodded, shrugging. "Yeah. It went way better than I thought it would." She twirled around herself, causing him to raise an eyebrow. "Uh... do you do that whenever you're happy?" Canvas nodded, realizing what she was doing and stopping then and there. "I... I think it's a tick from my royal days... Sorry, Hinode."

Hinode shook his head, grinning. Apparently, he had seen something that made him stop a bit but not enough to tell her to stop. "Eh, hardly, suit yourself." She nodded and started to twirl again. One spin, two spins, three spins... and a stop. She found herself landing on the arms of... a monster! Canvas yelped, pushing whoever was holding her off. The monster in front of her looked way less monster-like once she was a bit distant from her but she was still scared. It was a girl a bit taller than her, almost at the same height of Hinode, dressed in a school uniform with two large suitcases by her side. Her head had two beady eyes, a mouth and a rather small nose. The real noteworthy things on the girl was a pair of large blue orbs laying over her head with a million of horizontal stripes, almost looking like the eyes of a bug. The girl also had shaggy dark hair, two wings that looked very bug-like... and that's when it hit her that they were in front of a giant bug-humanoid.

"Howdy, partner! Bzzzt... Are you Hinode, bzzzt?" The bug girl smiled, the beady eyes not moving. Her wings fluttered a bit. "That's me, yeah. And you are?" The bug girl nodded, giving him a hug. To Canvas' surprise, he wasn't really weirded out by that at all barring the surprise. "Bzzzt! I'm Garbodor, nice to meet ya!" Garbodor let him off, fluttering her way to the door of their house. "I'll be your new classmate. Hope you don't mind my... eating habits." Hinode rose an eyebrow. "Let me guess, you eat trash, right?" Her beady eyes blinked, followed by a head shake. "N-Not at all. I eat fruits, bzzzt... although I can eat old spares if things get too rough. Not all sorts of trash though, bzzzt. A-Anyway, miss Valanora said that I could come here, apparently, your parents have some rooms for rent?"

Hinode blinked. The headmistress apparently thought way more of him than he thought. Either that or it was mostly because his parents were... well, his parents. Anyhow, he decided to ease the bug girl. "Yeah. But I hope you have some money on you, feeding three people and a little cat is a bit harder than what I'm used to, you see." She nodded, taking out a credit card from her pocket. "Money is no issue, bzzzt. I'm a royal heir, after all. I'm sure that we'll be able to come to some sort of agreement, bzzzt!" Hinode rose an eyebrow while Canvas remained a bit horrified. "What? Feels like you've been through something similar recently, bzzzt?" He chuckled in answer. He looked at Canvas, his chuckling stopping as a result. "Eh, no. Just a bit surprised."

What if god was one of us?

I’m not entirely convinced of the existence of a God. I think it is really hard to believe that there is a greater power somewhere with all the struggle, and strife in this world. What God would let a kid die of cancer? What God would let that kid struggle with cancer for years, knowing they will die a young death? I remember when my dad died, watching my grandparents struggle with his death was almost as hard as struggling with it myself. No one should have to burry their own child, let alone how old they are.

Death is a struggle for many, but that’s not the only thing that make it hard to believe there is a God. God moves in mysterious ways…What does that even mean? Oh, I got fired from my job but surely another door will open. Surely this won’t lead to years’ worth of struggle. Gay people aren’t gay it’s just a choice is thrown around a lot by religious people. That is confusing. I can’t choose to want to be with another man, so what makes anyone else able to do so? Am I just not quite as strong as these other people seemingly choosing to be straight?

Hypocrisy seems to run wild in religious circles. Maybe that is what started to push me away as a kid. As an adult seeing people quote certain parts of their books but ignore other parts. It’s apparently how you interpret the bullshit that matters. You can eat shellfish, but not have sex with another lady, Margaret. I can be racist towards other people, but only because the bible said slavery was doable in certain ways.

Also, if say a Jesus died for our sins, why do I have to be baptized. It seems like a double punishment. He had to die for me, but now I have to get wet for him. That seems like a shitty situation for everyone. I’m not sure I agree. I mean if there is a heaven and hell, or whatever, I guess we will find out then. That seems like a later problem, and right now…I think it’s hard to believe that God would take people away form you. That a God would force you to kill someone for him or make decisions because of his “beliefs”. Because after all aren’t, they generally someone else’s belief and not yours?

OOC Note: This RP is set during the break at half-way point of qualifying.

Skorji tensed up as he read back what he’d written. It was, obviously, pure genius, the workings of a man operating on a separate tier to all others. Still…he couldn’t help but feel nervous. Ok. Time to dive in. He pressed the enter key, and so it began.

Do that and you can achieve what I have achieved, a state of mind that goes beyond the puny “enlightenment” celebrated by inferior systems of thought.

Ironically, my inspiration for spreading the word of Skorji comes from a failed application of its doctrine. My own application. Yes, it’s no secret that things have been going badly for me as manager of the Euran Oceania Territories football team. Despite a wonderful AOCAF performance, we’ve struggled in World Cup qualifying. Even to an ambitious visionary like me, it is quite clear that qualification is unlikely.

But that does not mean the philosophy of Skorji and the associated Skorjiball tactics are not valid, it simply means I have not been faithful to them. I have been distracted throughout qualifying by other matters, of finance and bureaucracy, which have left me unable to fulfil my duties to date. It’s affected the squad too. As such, we now face a mountain to climb just to put in a respectable finish.

Still, we have got a couple of good results before the qualifying break. And it is my hope that through writing this milestone of human articulation of thought, I can re-energise myself and this young nation towards future victory. And hey, the maths says it’s still possible. There’s still something to chase and it’s more than just an irrational hope. Why dream when you can do?

Watch this space. Skorji out.
