Previous parts of the story: 1234

Morning for Naomi began with an attempt to understand where she is at all. The configuration of the bed itself, not to mention the room, is completely unusual. Only 30 seconds later she realized that she was in Trolleborg, many, many (and really many, many and many) kilometers from home. After a few seconds she heard someone cursing something through the teeths. And a little later she found the source of abuses: in the second room of their suite, Wesley in some kind of helmet with glasses jumped and moving around the site in the corner of the room and made strange movements with his legs, as if he run somewhere and kicked something. “Give me the pass!” He suddenly shouted, and, apparently, having not received what he wanted, he stopped and exhaled sadly.
“Ah, you woke up! Wait, I'll pause.”

And taking off his helmet, he explained excitedly and grievously:
“A really tough game we play! They pressured us real hard, almost don’t let us breathe! One hope is to quickly run away, but defenders don’t give me a pass forward! Just a little fast pass - and you see, what I can do with it!!”
“What were you playing?”
“All the same, you know WCQ-84. Only this time in a helmet of virtual reality. You and I were playing on the monitor with a joystick, but here is a natural second reality! Once they did a tackle for me, so I almost got an injury! However, okay, let's play enough some time after. Right now let's go eat something, I’m terribly anxious, and we seem to have breakfast included in the room price”

Breakfast really turned out to be to their service. However, a good third of the dishes were not familiar to travelers at all. Robot in charge of the hotel, although he sincerely tried to clarify what their ingredients are and how they were cooked, didn’t succeed too much, went astray in search of suitable terms, and at the end announced a dish as a “fresh baked watermelon directly from the sea”. After that he make apology (is he sighed heavily?), said that he had to undergo retraining courses, and he redirected the travelers to read Trolleborg cuisine guide, to which he immediately sent a link.

As it turned out, there was one more thing in the smartphones of the travelers - it was Keith, who informed that it could not operate within the hotel, according to the law on the protection of personal rights, but on the street they could always turn to her with a corresponding exclamation. And she, is ready to make for them any route they wish.

Well, with a full belly, of course, it’s really worth to lie still, but in fact we did not go to distant lands with three transplants to just wallow on the couch!

And just after they emerge from the hotel, Wesley and Naomi finally encountered what they were used to on the streets of Zwangzug during the BoF-71 and on the screens during broadcasts from any big competition whatever Trolleborg taking part. From the right came the characteristic polyphonic roar, rapidly accelerating from barely audible notes to a crescendo, from which the glass shook, and then the rhytmic chant “Trolle-borg! Trolle-borg! ... ”, accompanied by the pounding of many legs.

Tourists expected to see a crowd of fans, but instead of them around the corner appeared a crowd of completely wild-looking creatures with a red faces, costumes made from hides, hoods of the most medieval kind on their heads, many with have steel hooks, flails and some really frightening pieces of iron that they waved with great enthusiasm - and they were moving right on travelers really fast!

Capital Stadium, Hapilopper City
World Cup 85 Qualifying Match 4: Hapilopper v. Gopnikea

(Stevenson 27’) HAPILOPPER 1-0 GOPNIKEA
Yellow Cards: Ellis (HAP) 62’
The debate about tempering Nate Ellis’s attitude raged on as the Haps got ready to play in the venerable old Capital Stadium off the West River for the fourth match of their World Cup qualifying campaign. This one pit the good guys against the Preciznosts from the Nine Hells of Gopnikea, a pretty good team that promised to be a challenge for the Haps. A few fans from Gopnikea had made the trip to Hapilopper City, but by and large, the stadium was filled to the brim with the wild and crazy Hapiloppians who were here to watch their team take another win.

And another win they indeed took, a 1-0 victory on the strength of an Ernie Stevenson goal in the 27th minute. With the assistance of some great blocking from defensemen Nate Ellis and Carl Peterson, Ernie was able to move his way through traffic, even playing some misdirection by sending the ball back and forth between himself and Claire Randall and Beautiful Bobby East. By the time he got to the goal, Ernie shouted “THINK FAST!” at goalkeeper Mercary Garrison and fired it towards the right side of the net.

The ball smashed into the back of the net with resounding force, the Haps led 1-0, and Ernie did a little moonwalk, if you want to call it that, to celebrate. The fans in Capital Stadium were delirious. Beer went flying everywhere, as did blue and green streamers in the direction of their hero. Ernie took it all in, stretching his arms out, closing his eyes and raising his head towards the heavens as thousands of blue and green streamers filled the air.

All things considered, it was an almost perfect match for the Haps. Sure, Ernie and Claire might have missed a few chances as it seemed Garrison was hell-bent on making sure another ball did not sail past him. It wasn’t for a lack of trying, though. Ernie and Claire had plenty of chances and shot a total of 15 shots on target after that goal, each of which was caught by the Sepulcrisian Preciznost goalkeeper.

But the problem, you guessed it, involved Nate Ellis, obtaining yet another yellow card, and potentially putting him in trouble of getting suspended soon. John Lowrie, Gopnikea’s right-center midfielder, had a little momentum going as he tried to rush down the field and towards the waiting Rod Hughes, who was ready to stop whatever Lowrie was doing. He never got that chance. Nate rushed towards him, and completely unprovoked, shoulder-blocked the popular midfielder. Ellis stood over Lowrie, shouted a few words in his direction, before referees rushed on the scene and issued yet another yellow card to the thuggish defender. Lowrie, thankfully, was uninjured in the cheap shot.

Nate argued a tiny bit of protest, smack-talking the referees before being held back by Fernie Fairburn and Kendrick Ayers. The fact was, this was yet another unfortunate incident involving Nathan Ellis, and it was starting to grow tiresome. Buddy Martinez, the head coach of the team, was visibly furious, and after the match, told Nate that if he did anything of that sort at the team’s next match in Valentine Z, he would be benched for the next match.

Overhearing Buddy’s diatribe to the defender, Ernie Stevenson and Claire Randall looked at each other and decided to chime in.

“Naw, man, let him go,” Ernie said, chuckling. “The Valentians won’t mind that bit of roughhousing. Trust me. They expect it.”

“Oh yeah,” Claire replied. “They love it there. They want Nate to deliver. Don’t disappoint them.”

That, of course, was a lie. Both Ernie and Claire had been to Valentine Z and knew something about the Valentians that most of the team didn’t. Both of them, too, were also sick and tired of Nate doing stupid things on the pitch to get both himself and the team in trouble. They were tired of the cheap shots, the physical assaults and the stupidity.

“Everybody gangsta till the Valentians get big,” Ernie quietly said to his fellow striker, who couldn’t help but giggle.

It would be their little secret until Match Day 5, when the Haps traveled to Valentine Z for a match that few would forget.

Omerica’s Qualifying Homes: Charlottesville’s Stade Just-Cartier
By Anastasia Saint-Martin

As become Omerica’s custom, the United Republican Soccer Federation have selected multiple venues to stage the Incorrigbles’ home games. Sometimes there’s a theme to the selection, such as the Tour du Sud that crisscrossed Gallophone regions which had been neglected in selection cycles past, but this particular World Cup cycle is an audition.

Certain cities were always be guaranteed to hosts when Omerica finally staged the IAC. No Omerican in their right mind would ever doubt that the RS Amphitheatre, Arena la Rouge or Stade de la République would be showcased at a major international tournament. The rumours that Falconbarrow’s Revolution Park would be the venue for the opening game at Omerica’s first home tournament surprised no one and have been virtually confirmed by the Federation.

Others cities were not necessarily favourites, but are nevertheless not surprises. Trailblazer Park, Londonderry Court and Seafoam Athletic Park all have Premier Division clubs calling them home. The Stade Olympique de Syracuse is an understandable representative of Omerica’s Provence. And how could Grand-Saint-Christophe’s Stade de l’Indépendence not host Independent Associations Championship matches?

With the URSF finally putting together a bid for the Independent Associations Championship—more than half a decade after the Incorrigibles’ triumph at the Seven Stars Stadium—, four venues have been given the opportunity to make their case for the international spotlight. Their task is to prove they have what it takes to host a string of international matches featuring diverse teams from all corners of the multiverse in a short span of time. They are the hosts of our current World Cup qualifying campaign.

A murdered native son
The city-republic was the birthplace of an oft-controversial Governor General by the name of Just Marie Cartier. An outsider to Omerican federal politics, the 43rd Federal Diet shocked the nation by electing the relatively unknown barrister the United Republics’ chief magistrate over the objections of then-Secretary General Christophe Alexandre.

Alexandre was growing increasingly unpopular in the caucus of the governing Reformist Party, while the Omerican Socialist Party were reeling from the recent defeat of Ashley Thompson’s minority government a year before and were hoping to save face. The Charlottesvillian lawyer had chafed Alexandre with his impassioned challenges of controversial federal Reformist initiatives, making him the perfect candidate for an unholy alliance to humiliate the Secretary General.

“I’ve known many contemptible lawyers in my time, but Just has to be most contemptible of them all,” Alexandre stated in his private journals. “They stabbed me in the back and they’ll have to answer to God for their betrayal.”

The new Governor General predictably proved a thorn in Alexandre’s side. At the next federal election, the Reformists lost their majority and Alexandre lost most of his allies in the caucus; Cartier refused the Secretary General’s request to dissolve the House of Representatives and call a new election, stating that “[t]here is no impediment to the functioning of the Diet outside Chasteauvieulx’s desire for it not to. If the Diet proves itself impotent, the Governor General’s office will reconsider, but until then, the Government must make do with what they have.”

Cartier was reviled in the hard-right factions of the Reformist Party for his actions—even though the centrist Liberal Democrats openly had no intentions of bringing Alexandre’s government down—and made no more friends when he referred controversial Reformist bills to the Court of Constitutional Guarantees. Any controversy Cartier courted, however, was virtually forgiven when he was assassinated in Carthagène’s Rue des révolutionnaires; no political motive was ever established for the killing, but the news sent shockwaves through the country.

Today, Just Cartier still causes commotions in some hard-right circles, but is for the most part memorialised as a national martyr who died in the service of the nation. Charlottesvillians are perhaps the most fond of Cartier, a man who spoke his mind and stood up for his convictions in the face of powerful forces. To this city, Just Cartier was one of them best among them and the man who turned their small city into a centre of Omerican life.

A football city in hiding
Charlottesville as it appears today is relatively young. The Nouvelle-Cité’s move from neighbouring Bridgecastle to join with the Vielle-Cité is the second-most recent change in republican boundaries after Mespalia’s secession from the Free State. The two sides still have a largely-jestful rivalry that colours its local football scene, as far removed from the Premier Division as it surprisingly is.

Despite the dearth of big clubs hailing from this great metropolis, the people of Charlottesville are passionate about their football. Hampstead Road in the Levant and Williamsport Kickers in Versailles call this city-republic home, as do Athlétique Club des Trois-Fleuves in the Val-du-Tibère. Williamsport and Trois-Fleuves are want to taunt Hampstead supporters by proclaiming “we’re not a street,” while Hampstead—as the only club from the city to ever be crowned Omerican champions—never hesitate to ask their rivals “how many titles do you have?”.

While some people in the city do defect to support clubs from neighbouring republics or one of the nation’s big clubs, Charlottesvillians on the whole are passionately supportive of their local teams wherever in the pyramid they are. For a lower-tier rivalry, the Charlottesville derbies can easily match or even surpass the intensity of the Metropolitan derby between United Philibiscostal and Corona Christiana.

“We’re a fairly relaxed city when derby day hasn’t come around,” Marseilles native Jeanette Achterkamp tells the blog. “Our derbies have the passion of the Romainbourgeoise derby without all the political fervour. The supporters on the other side of the park are often your friends and family, especially in a Nouvelle-Cité derby. You sing your lungs out, but hurting the people closest to you is out of the question.”

Less than half-a-kilometre downstream from the confluence of the rivers that give the administrative district of Trois-Fleuves its name, the Stade Just-Cartier is the longtime home of Athlétique, who currently languish in the nation’s Third Division. The stadium was originally known the Stade Reine Charlotte, after the Omerican consort from whom the city-republic received its name, until Cartier’s death in North Provence. The venue, which had a recent remodel to expand its capacity and remove the virtually unused athletics track around the pitch, overlooks the Promenade des Trois-Fleuves (which sadly will not have a beach soccer pitch built on it for the upcoming match against Riena).

The city’s supporters will have the company of their fellows from the neighbouring republics of Bridgecastle and East Calaverde when the national team comes to town, but could easily pack the stadium by themselves. “I can’t think of anywhere that believe in our national team more than Charlottesville,” Williamsport owner Alice Brook told the blog. “A national team transcends all club loyalties, so we’re all packing in the Just-Cartier to make noise for our Incorrigibles.”

No matter the results, the city will be thrilled to see the national team back in action and will be treated to some great football in the weeks to come. ◇

WORLD EXCLUSIVE
COCOA-BO “BIOWEAPON” BLOCKING HEALING POWER OF 5G RAYS

Secret plans in league with shadowy figures from the Cocoa-bo Corporation have been exposed in a leak from 5G intelligence networks, an exclusive PWND investigation has found. Accusations that Cocoa-bo was invented in a lab have long been covered up by agents of the Atlantian Oceania Mandelbrot Fractal Society. Now Sir Barsanuphius the Bold has become the latest to denounce Cocoa-bo and call for it to be banned across the world.

We can exclusively reveal new details that have emerged of a scheme to destroy 5G networks, which could send countries everywhere back to the stone age and inflict plagues of locusts and boils upon humanity. Even elves will not be spared this scourge, as the healing powers of 5G masts will be forever tainted by bioweapons labs and dark sorcery, according to a new dossier given to this newspaper by this guy who had no political agenda whatsoever. The top secret information lays out exercises and simulations for the implantation of microscopic Cocoa-bo in the unsuspecting population.

Ordinary people will then be subjected to constant surveillance and cards promising them that their tenth Cocoa-bo of any size is free, said a marketing researcher who asked not to be named as he was not authorized to speak. And not just to the media, at all.

While many have long suspected the secret laboratory origins of Cocoa-bo, the dossier also shows that a substance codenamed “Batcave” was tested on unsuspecting volunteers by the company, all in the name of “focus grouping”. The test subjects were forced to rate the substance on a scale of 1 to 5, according to the secret report obtained by PWND.

The test results were filled with remarks like “shitty version of FrappuBappu” and “the children will really like this”. It is unclear if children were abducted for experiments with the substance.

Another highly-placed source in the government, who spoke to this newspaper while racing down the highway on the way to get his eyes checked, confided that this could extend to forcing prisoners to take bleach injections as a method of mind control known as Project Cleansing.

“Once everyone is addicted and 5G has been deactivated, then will come the crowning glory of the birds’ terrible majesty,” our source explained. “The Cocoa-bo is only the beginning. In time, all will belong to Cocoa-bo.”

Authoritarian Democracy

Postby Valladares » Wed May 27, 2020 3:48 pm

The discussion of the Bill of Secession at the Royal Parliament had been for the most part, relatively smooth and civil...except for the first day when Hispanic activists stormed into the Royal Parliament and were accordingly subdued by the Valladar Police. Unlike the tense environment that had surrounded the sessions and voting of the bill back when it was proposed to the Mountbatten State Parliament, the confrontation between the Hispanic advocates and their contenders in the Royal Parliament revolved around ideas, with the MPs giving their two cents on possible additions or deletions of stuff, and other minor style adjustements. Most Liberal and Labour MPs spent their chances to speak their minds during the sessions in expressing their reasons as to why the Bill should not be passed, while the Conservative-Catholic majority bloc had adopted a cautious stance, taking care not to imply their support to either side. Until now...

The actual truth was this one: having met in advance with both the Hispanic and Liberal/Labour sides, the Conservatives were able to gauge an in-depth knowledge of the two conflicting stances, and had already held an internal meeting where they reached a decision on who to support. In spite of the political guarantees promised by the Liberal and Labor delegates who approached Stéphane Bertrand's office, Valladares' fourth most powerful man didn't feel like cooperating with his two main rivals, neither did the rest of the Conservative Senate bloc. And while Álvaro Montillo and his entourage weren't really very high in their list of likables either, their proposal was found to have some actual sense. Therefore, the Conservatives thought it would be in everyone's best interest to support the Hispanics, considering the fact that if the Bill passed and Mountbatten was split in half, they would have a better chance to exert effective rule in either of the resulting states. But no-one else knew that. Two topics were in the agenda of the fourth day of discussion at the Royal Parliament: the first one was an interrogation of the Minister of Defense on the scope of the announced Valladares-Quebec military exercises, the other one was the bill. And so, the session began at 2 p.m. with Minister of Defense Roberto Llinás being summoned to the legislative building for a lenghty session of questions and answers.

"...to sum our discussion up, one of our goals for those military exercises in Terra Henrius is testing our recent advancements in strategy and equipment, especially considering the new improvements to the FJ-12 aircraft. As the head of Valladar state defense, I think it is important to review the military capabilities of the Self-Defense Forces ahead of an event of ballistic confrontation, whenever it comes out. Of course, the Quebecois government was contacted first about the posibility of having joint military exercises and they greenlighted it, including the possibility to perform nuclear tests. Last but no least, and to answer the concerns of some of the honourable MPs, there is no real reason to believe that a war with either Eura or Darmen is imminent, nor is something that we desire, but we must be prepared for anything and everything that might come our way. If you want to know any updates on diplomatic advancements with either of those nations, you can ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for them. Thanks for your attention."

"We thank the Honourable Minister of Defense on expanding on the recent military agreement signed with the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, as well as giving us a detailed plan for the military exercises that are about to be held in Terra Henrius. Now, the next topic on the agenda is the "Bill for the Split of the Mountbatten State on Linguistic Grounds", with articles 40 to 50 being discussed today..."

The discussion went on for nearly six hours, with thorny issues such as the city of Columbus, minority rights, and government transition being addressed. The "Columbus question" was the topic that took far more time to be sorted, with the Hispanics begrudingly agreeing to a Green Party proposal to let the citizens of Columbus and nearby towns decide on which state they ultimately wanted to be in, which was seconded by the Conservative, Catholic, independent, and even some Liberal and Labour MPs. With discussion on Article 50 being concluded a quarter past midnight, Bertrand stood up from his chair and, in spite of his obvious look of exhaustion, addressed the room in order to finally reveal the Conservative Party's stance on the issue, arguably the thing everyone had been waiting for the entire discussion.

"Ladies and gentlemen. There is absolutely no doubt that this recent four days have been witness to a productive discussion in which we once again showed our ability to reach consensus in a civil and peaceful way. I would like to thank you all for making your country and your people proud with such high-level work, and I invite everyone to congratulate each other with an applause." This extra motion was unanimously passed and the entire meeting room proceeded to applaud for a few minutes, after which the Conservative MP continued with his speech. "Having listened to, read, and carefully reviewed the initially proposed bill and all its subsequent modifications, as leader of the Conservative Party of Valladares in the Royal Senate, I hereby announce the support of the party I represent to this project."

Bertrand took a sip from his cup of coffee, amid some boos and jeers from the Liberal and Labour blocs, and continued with his speech:

"We, the Conservatives, consider that it is in the best interests of the Hispanophone and Anglophone peoples of the Mountbatten state that they are given the chance to live in their own states, and at peace with each other as neighbors, just as the Royal Constitution of 1910 entitles them to! And there is already a historic precedent for this: Iliria! The historical region of Iliria has been populated since colonial times by Lusophones in the northern highlands and Francophones in the valley to the south, and whilst the two groups shared peacefully the land...what did the Royal Constitution do with them? It split Iliria into two states: Chiquito and Foix, and nowadays you can see Lusophones and Francophones living in peace in their respective states! Why can't we do the same with Mountbatten which is a similar case? Why did we allow this to continue for so long? We think this is a just proposal, and we would like to see that wrong corrected, because everyone, be it Hispanophone, Anglophone, Francophone, Lusophone, and even Aboriginals deserves to live in a land they can call as own, and the Royal Constitution gives them that right. Therefore we are giving our support to this bill."

That announcement by Bertrand, although expected within the Liberal and Labour spheres, was met with outrage by some MPs of these parties, who still held the hope they would be able to charm some of their Conservative counterparts into supporting their stance. Forced to resort to a point of order by turning everyone else's mics off so as not to lose control of the session before it could legally end, Bertrand announced that, having already discussed the 50 articles of the bill, it would be up to vote. And since a law that could potentially alter the territorial composition of the federal state is, for all intents and purposes a constitutional amendment, it would need a joint session of both the Senate and the National Assembly to be voted and passed with at least two thirds of both quorum and votes in favor, as well as prior approval from the Constitutional Court before being submitted to the Kings for sanction. Meanwhile, the bill had also been fully discussed by the National Assembly and ready to be voted. Therefore, a joint session of both chambers of the Royal Parliament was scheduled for the following week, and the day's Senate session was declared ended by Bertrand. The Liberal and Labour MPs left the room while threatening to boycott the joint session, as Hispanic, Catholic, and Conservative MPs were all congratulating and hand-shaking each other and didn't seem to be too worried about those threats, being confident that the Bill would ultimately pass. Everyone at the Royal Parliament, regardless of their stance, was now certain of a thing: the biggest day in the recent history of Valladares was about to come...

95X 2–1 Bongo Johnson
It was off to Murbley Coliseum for the 95Xers, who'd extend their early winning streak to four games following their win over fifty-third-ranked Bongo Johnson.

The 95X starting lineup "woke up" from their previous performance and Lauren Hills stopped three shots on the goal in the first half. Bongo Johnson scored on a Horatio Caine free kick in the 33rd, but Kaylee Moody answered only seconds before halftime and tied things up. Katelynn State was pleased with her team's performance in the half.

95X outplayed their opponents in the second half and had possession for 27 of the 45 minutes, and Roisin Dart's attack in the 75th minute led to the goal that'd put 95X up to win the game.

(95X: Moody :44, Dart :75; Bongo Johnson: Caine :33)

— So… do you like anything else than football?
— Yes.
He was dense, the player seemed like a robot at first, but later he was more like a door. With the capacity to answer simple questions the meeting was dragged over an hour. At least that wouldn’t be published, as far as she knew.
— Ok, Stariq is done.
The player got up, shook hands and left the room, Mary felt relieved.
— Next one is Soletz.
The player entered the room and sat in the iron chair and give his hand to her, a summer of friendliness compared to his peer.
— Hello, I am Markus Soletz.
His white smile, blue eyes and blond hair emanated friendliness.
— I am Mary Rockwell, the team’s representative in foreign press.
— Oh, your balqese is very good. So, we are here for an interview, right?
— It should be more like a conversation, we are going to know each other better.
— Like a date?
She blushed.
— Yes, but without the ending part.
— So, no hughs?
That wasn’t what she meant, but ended up agreeing whatsoever.
— Uh… so…
— You know, this room is just like the one where they got me after I was arrested.
— Were you arrested?
— Two times. One for possession of alcohol and cigarettes and the other for stealing a gun from an officer.
— How old were you?
— Seventeen. Good old days.
At least he was charismatic.
— How did you ended in the National Team?
— I play at the Prieqnisk F.C., one guy found me good enough and here I am.
She noted that in her notebook.
— What are your thoughts on the actual performance?
— We are doing our best, but things are a bit hard, we are still adapting to each other’s passe.
— The last match was what you expected?
— No, Vulop ended up beating his head against the goal, and that wasn’t on the plans. All else was pretty ordinary, but we expected more than a 2-2 if I’m being honest.
— Any expectations for the next match?
— Well, I am praying for a best performance, but I wouldn’t expect anything marvelous, Gopnikea shouldn’t be dealt with ease or anything like that. Vulop will not be playing this one, Ptoloviq is good enough and will be very happy in defending the goal. Berka is making a fuss about not winning anything, but if you ask me I will say he has his share of guilt in this bad performance.
— Don’t you like the coach?
He laughed.
— Oh, I love him. I heard that past teams had very eccentric coaches, but Berka is just a guy doing his job. You may think he is just an old guy that complains about how we don’t play like in the old days, but I will tell you, he know what he is doing.
— So why aren’t you winning?
— Oh, we are having problems in… how can I say it?... Harmonize! That’s the word. That’s the problem with changing the team for every Cup, we start from ground zero.
He drank a bit of water while she put that down on paper.
— I wish your friend Stariq was as helpful as you are.
— Oh, that guy is like a wall.
— Yeah…
He looked around, an awkward silence began to form.
— So, what’s your deal?
— What? My deal?
Now he was making questions.
— I mean, why did you took the job? Most foreigners think the country is some dystopia.
— I… uh… I really didn’t choose to, I work for a company and they sent me here. I accepted because it was that or being fired.
— Oh, so that’s why.
— But I don’t hate it! It’s a beautiful country, you don’t see litter in the streets, homeless people, drunk people, everything is organized and there’s cops everywhere.
That last part actually freaked her, she saw a cop in every corner and cameras in each building’s entrance, she felt observed all the time, and probably was!
— Oh yeah, tourist say that a lot. We don’t get to travel a lot, so we know the world through TV, but it’s always the same thing with concrete blocks with people protesting, I don’t know if it’s propaganda or if all the countries are like these.
— In fact I think is…
— Your time is over, Soletz.
They departed with a handshake. There was a row of players to talk with, but none were so amicable as Soletz. Most of them spoke little and just answered what she asked with a phrase or two. In the end of the day she knew as much about the players as she could discover reading a Wikipedia page, in case there were any.

Former National team goalkeeper Delbin Kasekende becomes President of the Busoga Islands

Islanders rally in the street in favor of their new President

LAKISKA, SOUTH ISLAND- The world is always turning, just as politics is always turning. Big things are happening just on the other side of the sea. All sorts of rumors are swirling out of the Banijan political scene, right next door. Their National Defense Review looks likely to be an 'aggressive' one, although we of course are not sure what form that will take. It, of course, comes on the heels of a contentious Banijan election, where the center-right swept into power for the first time in almost two decades. And, of course, it is with all these rumors flying around of a potential Banijan Olympic bid, although we'll put those at around 50/50.

But hey! This country matters too. Many have been focusing on the World Cup 85 Qualification campaign, and that makes sense. The Islanders got off to a hot start under Bethany Donnell, winning their opening match 5-3 before following that up with a 4-2 victory in Wreckeria. However, a 3-2 loss at home, at the Dukuma Oval, against Donnell's former employer, the Squornshelous Remnant States, coming off of our bye, has brought them down to Earth. But this is a long qualification campaign- we've picked up full points twice, and only dropped points once, so 6 points after 3 games in 4 matchdays is not a bad place to be. It looks as if we are going to continue to in the thick of the race for one of the group's Qualification spots for a while yet. Of course, we're still so early everyone's in it, but we aren't starting behind the 8 ball.

But enough about football(what?!?!) It's time to talk about politics. As many people know, of course, shortly after World Cup 80, as part of the Treaty of Busukuma Bay, the independence of the Busoga Islands was secured. Fireworks everywhere, and Ebrahim Razav, then the Premier, immediately became the country's head of state. He's served as the President ever since. All these years, President Razav has led this country with a strong hand, navigating a path for the Islanders abroad. His foreign policy style is distinct. He was never a fan of Banija, and therefore, he really molded the country's foreign policy in his image. He decided to leave the Quebecois Commonwealth, saying that organization would not serve the interest of the country. He, of course, had a great relationship with the country's chief ally, the Equestrian States. He established a key military alliance with Neu Engollon as well.

There is some cooperation between the Busoga Islands and the Kingdom of Banija, although it is limited at the government to government level. There has not been a treaty between the two countries regarding citizenship laws, as the countries remain far apart on reaching an agreement on the issue. Presently, both countries just decided to do things their own way. Islander diplomats are sure to make noise whenever big Banijan initiatives come up. But Razav couldn't stay in power forever, of course. He finally decided to step down, and that caused a free for all. The system essentially revolved around the country's modern-day founding father.

What were the main issues? Well, there were two. The country, thanks to heavy investment from their Equestrian allies out west, is doing quite well economically. There is the issue, however, is secularism v. soft Islamism. This country, of course, is called an Islamic Republic, reflecting the vast majority of our population being Shia. But just because almost everyone is nominally Shia, it doesn't mean they practice all that much. The dirty secret is that Islanders are generally progressive, secular people. Razav was more conservative on these issues, but he never really properly talked about religion and politics. But that was a dividing issue.

There was a soft Islamism crowd on the right. Now, they weren't exactly fundamentalist- they weren't trying to create the Shia version of Banijan governance. But they wanted much more confluence between church and state. Laws to reflect Islamic values, emphasizing higher importance of people of faith, etc.. ANd in the other camp, was the secular crowd. These were led by former national team goalkeeper, Delbin Kasekende(more on him shortly). This crowd basically believed that, while faith was important to the state's heritage, that there shouldn't be confluence between church and state. They'd say look at Timuria, where the Busogan people originated from, and see the potential of a secular state. They say look at the biggest countries in this region- from Valanora, to Equestria, to Vilita, to even Quebec. What do they have in common? They all place a heavy emphasis on separation of church and state.

These people were led by the now 46 year old Delbin Kasekende. Who is he? He speaks strongly on the contempory issue of the secularism, church and state. He represents the issue that is always at the back of everyone's mind in this country- Banija. Banijan relations have vexed this country for years, and they will continue to do so. Delbin Kasekende, of course, is a former superstar goalkeeper. He played for the Kadongo Kamu, being their starter when Banija went to the World Cup for the first time ever(while Busoga was part of Banija). Of course, all eligible Busoga players had a choice to make- would they play for Banija or Busoga?

Kasekende could've chosen Banija. They'd made a World Cup. They would host the next one- potential for great things. Busoga is much smaller. The chances of ever accomplishing anything in international football again seemed slim, especially as Banija was at the beginning of his rise. But he chose Busoga, famously saying "I will never take the easy way- I will always choose my home." He never did get back to the World Cup. He is one of few players to play in their first ever World Cup Finals match before playing in their first ever Baptism of Fire match. But of course, it endeared him to this countrymen.

After his retirement following the World Cup 82 cycle, he got involved in politics. He quickly became Mayor of Dukuma, and had been Mayor until this election, when he ran for President. He was a larger than life Mayor- energetic, everywhere. Of course, we get back to the Banijan issue. Kasekende spent a large chunk of his career in Herzegovina City, winning titles for Banija's strongest club side. He played for the Banijan national team. Maybe he can be the one to bridge the divide between the Busoga Islands and Banija? In his major foreign policy speech, he said that the Busoga Islands 'have no enemies- we stand strong for ourselves, but always with a hand extended.'

Given his history, he is expected to make an outreach to Banija. Of course, there are always rumors with the National Defense Review- it'll probably amount to a whole bunch of nothing, and not cause problems for the now President-Elect Kasekende. Can he make that outreach? Can he build those alliances? And,of course, domestically- will he work to formally secularize this country? Big challenges ahead of him. But this young democracy celebrates as the club of footballers turned Presidents grows by a keeper.

This RP cutoff wishes our friends in Abanhfleft a happy May 26 Stadium Day. Of course, we're a little late. But given the silliness of time dilation, it's probably May 26 somewhere.

JECKLAND OFF THE MARK AFTER VICTORY IN VILLABLANCA

Jeckland chalked up their first win of the World Cup Qualifiers campaign, recording a 1-0 win away in Villablanca to lift themselves up the Group 1 table.

A decent travelling support followed the Spuds to this game, who were under pressure to record their first win of the tournament. Despite this, they remained cool and calm in the first 15 minutes of the game, creating little put penning the usually attacking Villablancans into their own half. Wingback Del Toro and Garcia were forced back by Jeckland’s wingers and fullbacks doubling up in attack, leaving their opponents with little width when they did get the ball forward.

Indeed it would be Hodson, playing an uncharacteristically attacking role in his first start in this qualifying cycle, who would provide the first chance, overlapping with Martel before fizzing a ball across which Graves scuffed wide. The Spuds continued to put pressure on their opponents, but gradually created more chances, with Sanderson and Stack both forcing simple saves from Gago. The opposition would however managed to create a golden opportunity with half an hour gone, Martinez through ball splitting the Jeckish centre backs and putting Martinez through one on one. The striker would have been expected to put the ball away, but a stupendous save from Clemens was able to deny him.

Jeckland would continue to dominate throughout the first half, but it was not until after the break that they would make it pay. Sanderson received the ball in the centre circle and saw the run of Martel down the Jeckland right. Martel instinctively chopped the ball inside his man before hammering home a left footed drive and running over to the Jeckish fans to celebrate.

With their opponents on the ropes, Jeckland continued to come forward looking to kill off the game. However, credit must go to Tello of Villablanca, who kept his side in it with a series of fine tackles and interceptions to keep Stack quiet before he was eventually dragged off for Lynton.

With ten minutes left in the game, Jeckish fans became restless, the demons of the Natanians and Nosts game fresh in their memories. However, this did not transmit onto the pitch at all, with Jeckland’s quick counter attacks giving them the best chances of the closing stages. Lynton dragged wide after an excellent run by Dane, who was then substituted for Forest. The backup left winger then went closer still, hitting the post with a rasping drive after himself and Martel carried the ball the length of the pitch. The final whistle brought muted celebrations from the Jeckland players, who knew that this was a game they simply needed to win to achieve their goals in this campaign.

The Spuds return to Jecken Stadium to host TJUN-ia next, who are a dangerous team despite their poor start. This will not be an easy game, but with the home crowd backing them the Spuds will be looking to secure three more points before a tough trip to New Lusitania.

ELSEWHERE IN GROUP 1

The key game of the round saw Turori break their duck against Audioslavia, with the Cocaobo players securing a smash-and-grab 1-0 victory to top the group. TJUN-ia came from two nil down to level against Sajnur, but ultimately fell to a 3-2 defeat to remain winless. New Lusitania narrowly beat a Porticalia side exceeding expectations thus far, while Euran Oceanian Territories served up a thriller in their 5-4 victory over Necosia. Mid table sides Muradil and Astograth played out a goalless stalemate.

RESULTS

Villablanca 0–1 Jeckland
TJUN-ia 2–3 Sajnur
New Lusitania 3–2 Porticalia
Necosia 4–5 Euran Oceania Territories
Turori 1–0 Audioslavia
Astograth 0–0 Muradil

Turori take control of the group with their victory, with Sajnur and New Lusitania wins moving them closer to Audioslavia in second. A cluster of teams follows behind them, with TJUN-ia and Necosia cut slightly adrift without a win on the board.

MATCHDAY 5 FIXTURES

Audioslavia (2nd) vs. Astograth (8th) - It’s hard to look past the Bulls for this one, even though Astograth aren’t a bad side at all.
Euran Oceania Territories (=9th) vs. Turori (1st) - Expect goals here, but the Eels to come away with the victory.
Porticalia (=5th) vs. Necosia (13th) - Two relatively unknown sides, but Porticalia go in as favourites with home advantage plus a decent showing thus far.
Sajnur (3rd) vs. New Lusitania (4th) - 4th seeds host 3rd seeds in a key match to determine who can make a challenge to the top two.
Jeckland (=9th) vs. TJUN-ia (12th) - The Jaguars’ results so far understate the danger they will pose to a Jeckish team still finding their feet.
Natanians and Nosts (11th) vs. Villablanca (=5th) - Another tough one to call, with both sides coming in with low expectations but proving hard to beat.

Muradil (7th) have a bye day.

“Can anyone tell me what the two axes on the Laffer Curve represent?”

Of course I could. It’s tax rates and tax revenues. Initially, as tax rates increase above zero, revenues grow. But past the optimal point where the curve peaks, tax revenues fall as tax rates rise, due to a lower incentive to work and more individuals and firms finding ways to avoid/evade payment. I knew all this from my EOSA’s. But was I going to stick my hand up in front of a room of 100 strangers and say it? Was I fuck. If I got it wrong it would be embarassing. I mean, I doubt anyone actually cared, but I’d still rather not do it

The lecturer, after pausing to wait for a hand to shoot up that never came, then unveiled his secret weapon. “Since I know my new classes are often like this, I’ll throw in a little incentive.” he said, waggling a bag of sweets in the air. Bribery will get you everywhere, I thought, raising my hand.

“Yes, you. What’s your name?”

“Wayne”

“So what do the two axes represent?”

“Tax rates and tax revenue” I said, sweating slightly at the thought I may have got this wrong.

“Well done” said the teacher, nonchalantly throwing the bag towards me. Whilst I had brilliant reflexes, I wasn’t expecting that at all, and they hit me on the nose, causing a chuckle to go up from the room.

So much for not embarrassing myself, I thought, chewing away as the lecturer explained the Laffer curve.

I never really made too many close friends on my course. Not because of that incident, to be clear - it just didn’t happen. I’d never had the most amazing social skills, but I’d always seemed to pick up friends along the way without making a conscious effort to. I’d always have a few close friends and then other people who were more acquaintances. My friends at uni were the five guys from my flat. Whilst I was a slightly different person to them, it didn’t really matter to me. Being a slight outsider was better than being outside.

The five of them had set up a five a side football team, which I initially declined to be a part of. I’d given up on serious football after the injury, and five a side just seemed a bit pointless. My skill in goal would be underused in small nets, and I was always crap when playing outfield. So I steered clear, until one night just before the end of my first term.

A knock came on my door. “Wayne, Anton’s got the shits and we’re playing tonight. Can you make up the numbers for us?”

“Sure.” I said. I was just doing it as a favour to my friends really.

“You used to be a keeper, right?”

“Yeah. Guessing you want me in goal then.” I knew already. The lads didn’t have a specialist keeper, rotating week on week. The guy who ended up in goal usually got the blame when the team lost.

“If you don’t mind”

“I’m shite outfield anyway. I’ll get my kit on and be ready in ten minutes.”

As I walked down to the pitches, I was only thinking about how cold it was. Yet as the game kicked off, I felt something within me. A buzz I hadn’t felt since my last game in four years came back to me. These cunts weren’t getting a goal past me today.

It's impossible to post a polandball (or countryball, or NSball) RP on the NSS forum without acknowledging PIS, whose influence on the genre is such that it's taken his name around here. I've tried to follow in his footsteps. Apologies to Chromatika, both for his terrible luck, and for how badly I've rendered his flag here. Don't worry, I won't attempt that again any time soon :P

There is currently a heat wave in Terre Septentrionale (28 °C or 82 °F), higher than the normal, and players should drink a lot of water.

The Nordiques attacked at the 18th minute when Yannick Ksiezniakiewicz passed the ball to Sandrine Fontaine who made a short pass to Kévin Maillé-Chicoine who shoots and he scores. 1-0 Terre Septentrionale. Maillé-Chicoine, 32 years old, scored his first international goal on his first cap. Sabalonia tied the game at the 26th minute when Joseph Khazanov made a cross to Pablo Eduardo who kicks the ball into the net and it was 1-1. Terre Septentrionale took the lead at the 39th minute when Sandrine Fontaine passed to the right to Roksana Kolodziejczyk who dribbled with the ball and made a cross to Fryderyka Cwierczakiewiczowa. She kicks the ball and it's a goal! 2-1 Terre Septentrionale and this is the score at the halftime.

The Reprezentacja Nordycki attacked again at the 55th minute when Yannick Ksiezniakiewicz passed to Sandrine Fontaine who passed backwards to Wlodzimierz Waclawczyk. Waclawczyk dribbled with the ball and shoots. The ball is in and Terre Septentrionale takes a 3-1 lead! It's also Waclawczyk's first international goal. Sabalonia attacked at the 88th minute but Park Jung Yoon was tripped in the penalty area by Weronika Zubrowska and it's a penalty. Park Jung Yoon takes the penalty, he shoots and she scores. Dragons Take Flight
By Rami Niblick in Regium, Oberour Ar Moro

THE cogs have turned slowly, the gears have ground with no small amount of friction, and the smoke from the chimney has looked somewhat ominous at times, but finally the Krytenian football machine has sparked into life. With confidence restored after their tenacious draw with Newmanistan, the Dragons tasted blood, and the nation of Oberour Ar Moro were a suitable bucket of chum to sate their hunger.

Jerome Jaffacake-Phillips' side dominated from the start, the team finally swinging around the fulcrum of captain Stephen Mariner with alacrity. The Dragons finally seemed to be enjoying their football, and it showed in their relentless harrying of the Dragoons' (note the extra O, that's not confusing at all) defence. Laurens Desainctvictori was tested in the OAM goal several times during the opening twenty minutes, the pick of the bunch being a scrambling double save from first Neil Smith and then Selly Kennedy.

It was obvious the rearguard action couldn't last forever. Rafa Mendonca was the man to break it, linking up well with Josh Kelnic on the right before cutting inside and bending a cracker past a sprawling Desainctvictori. The Dursten Easterners goalkeeper never stood a chance - and a few minutes later he'd be picking the ball out of the net a second time from a problem not of his own making. This time the Dragoons' defence went AWOL and giving Phil Eaton all the time in the world to slot one past the exposed custodian.

The second half would provide little respite, as the Dragons (one O, remember) continued their onslaught. Kennedy seemed destined not to score, cracking a low shot that Desainctvictori managed to push round the post before heading Eaton's ensuing corner against the bar. Smith, meanwhile, was happy to get among the goals, with Kennedy serving one up on a plate with a cutback that exposed the OAM goalie for a third time. Smith would soon grab a second, too, pouncing on a loose ball when Desainctvictori could only parry a thumper from the luckless Kennedy.

The Stanton striker, though, would eventually get his goal, albeit from the spot. Whether Mathieux Helleu's handball was deliberate or not can be debated until the cows come home, but the point remains that his arm was well away from his body. Not that Kennedy minded, as he flashed the penalty into the top corner to bring the Krytenian tally to five. Kerrian Odierne would grab a consolation late on as the visitors eased up on the intensity, but it hardly mattered.

A home game against the Drunk People is next, and Krytenia will be looking to keep their momentum going with Vilita, and a crunch fixture against the World's Number One Team, on the horizon. Onward!

CAPTAIN CONQUERS PORTICALIA
New Lusitania 3-2 Porticalia
@ Estádio do Conquistador, Guimarães (Att: 37 568)

Back home, New Lusitania moved North towards the Cradle of the Land, Guimarães. Known for being a tough grand due to some of the best fans of the country, it seemed the appropriate location to host a match between two lusophone nations. Porticalia had gotten a good start for their road in the qualifiers meaning the team mostly stayed the same, with the exception of Cancela's return and Vinagrete in for Guerreiros. Following the national anthems, the game was now truly under way in front of a packed crowd. New Lusitania had gotten off to a good start as Jota got an early warning shot on target. As Porticalia recomposed themselves they saw the game become much more even with their forward hitting the bar. The Selecção however, would be the first to set the tally - a great change in direction from Gama saw him put the ball in Horta who did a quick one-two with Veiga, who in turn would strike it hard and low into the back of the net. It was the first goal in Guimarães but it certainly wouldn't be the last today, as the away side quickly got back on their feet for an equaliser, a clean strike from start to finish saw the score at 1-1. Halftime and the crowd seemed to enjoy this extremely tight match, awaiting the next forty-five. Back on the pitch, Azinheira came in for Nevais as a precaution following a notable tackle, which would later be classified as simply a knock. The Selecção would get down to business in the closing half as Gama managed his first goal of the season with a diving header following a cross by captain Fernando which was on the left flank before the ball took off. The national and Sporting captain wasn't done however as later on, by the seventy-second minute he used one of his great mid-distance shots to use and stroke it powerfully from outside the box to make it 3-1. On eighty-five minutes however, the heat was back on when the ball suddenly made its way into the Lusitanian goal with very little reaction from the defence. The team uncharacteristically played defensively in the final five minutes or so of play, securing their second win, another hardly fought win. FULL TIME: 3-2

Around the Grounds
New Lusitania moved up to fourth position in the standings maintaining the two points distance as Turori took over the top with a game in hand following their victory in "the big game" against Audioslavia by a single goal. Sajnur maintained third following a close shave against TJUN-ia away (2-3), as Necosia despite still pointless showed glimpses of their potential in a 4-5 loss at home against the EOT. Meanwhile Astograth drew once more to make it 4 points with Muradil finishing a position above them in seventh following the 1-1 result. The kings of draws, Natanians & Nosts took a break with three draws in three matches as Jeckland finally got a win following an away victory at Villablanca (0-1). The next match sees New Lusitania travel to third place Sajnur in what is at the moment one of the main games of the group. Sajnur have yet to lose a game with two wins and two draws but New Lusitania's two recent wins are hoping this is the start of new found form. Victor Santa Cruz analysed the upcoming match as one that "is certainly going to be a great match for the fans. On our side, we're pushing for the win but we know travelling to Sajnur is no easy job". As the leaves begin to fall, New Lusitania can only hope they can keep the dream alive away at Sajnur.

One in FIVE?!

For the third game of these qualifiers, Vdara was at home. Now, this would be a good sign, had Vdara not lost their first home match to Lo Sontano. Vdara’s away record is even worse, having been yet to get a win away. In fact, their only win so far is a 2-1 victory over Nooooooooooooooo, which people were very much surprised about. However, this didn’t matter at the moment. What did matter was that Vdara were playing Equestria, the only team in the group still with a 100% record, having won their last 4 games. This game would be tough, and Væñøœrëñbérghüïś and the players knew exactly that. They were expecting to lose, and badly. However, Giannakos was back from suspension following his red card on MD2.

“Rrrrrrright lads!” began Væñøœrëñbérghüïś, “Today is a very special day. I don’t think we’ll be able to take a result from this, but we better f**king try to, you hear? We’re playing against the best team in the group, for the second year in a row, too! Actually, I’m pretty sure you lot lost 6-1 to these guys! Anyhow, that’s all in the past. As I’ve said for the past few matches, we can’t f**king change the past. We can only change the future, and the future will be happening before our very eyes, and only we can change it. We could be known as the only team in group 11 to take points off the top team... or we could be known as the team who got battered by a 5 goal margin. Hopefully it’s the former, y’know? Right, it’s about time to get on the pitch. Try your best out there, don’t go 6-nil down by half time, and try and stifle every attack they throw at as, you hear? Also, Valentinos, DON’T f**k this up for us again or you will be dropped. Right, let’s f**king go!”

Was there realistically any way that Vdara could win this matchup? We asked 3 fans this exact question, and here is what they had to say:

Interviewer: ”Could Vdara realistically win this matchup?”
Interviewee #1: ”Absolutely not, are you mad?”
Interviewee #2: ”Nope. Not a chance in hell.”
Interviewee #3 ”Are you joking? No! It’s impossible! We’ve only won one in our last four, and you expect us to think we can beat the best team in the group? Get a brain, pal.”

As you can see, the fans are obviously very optimistic about this matchup. Agh, who am I kidding, of course they’re not! It’s time to find out how Vdara did, as the match report is right here:

1: And the referee blows the whistle to get the game started! The Vdarans will definitely be feeling pessimistic during this game, but as we saw from the HUElavia game, they don’t go out easily without a fight!
4: It’s an early attack for the hosts here, as Giannakos hoofs it up the pitch to Mavroglou, who flicks it up and hits it over to Fotellis further up front who... is easily dispossessed by the strong Equestrian defence.
9: Equestria are very much on the attack, as they push forward with immense pace and skill. They use this immense pace to absolutely annihilate the Vdaran defence with pure skill, and they shoot it... into the net for a goal! It’s 1-0 to the away side here!
17: Vdara finally look ready to hit back here, as Pardakis hoofs it forward to Mavroglou. Mavroglou takes it further forward, puts it to Vlahiades, who cuts inside and takes a shot from range... which ends up right in the back of the net! Vdara are level! What a shot that was, as well!
20: Oh dear! A rubbish tackle from an Equestrian midfielder has earned them a yellow card! Free kick to Vdara.
24: The fans are absolutely deafening at the moment, they know that this moment of euphoria won’t last long, but they’re savouring it!
31: This could be a lovely attack from the Vdarans, Athanas has left the defenders in the dust, he’s one on one with the keeper and... he’s scored! Vdara lead the way at home! The fans are going mental! They shouldn’t be ahead, not against Equestria!
37: Vdara’s 6 minutes of euphoria might be over, as an Equestrian forward has the ball in the final third, they’ve taken a shot from a tight angle outside the box and... how have they scored that? The Vdaran fans are clapping, while the Equestrians are cheering madly! That is a beautiful goal, and everyone is in agreement!
45: And the referee blows the whistle for halftime. It’s Vdara 2, Equestria 2.

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś was gobsmacked. Not only were his team not losing, they had the lead for 6 minutes. He didn’t have much to say, but he did try to give the players some credit.

“I am speechless with your performance out there. You’ve done fantastic so far, and I want you all to keep that sh*t up, y’know? Even if we end up losing this match, we’re not down 6-0, nor are we down by any margin at all, but we’re level at halftime! What a spectacle this is, truly! Now, get back out there and f**k their shit up! Or, don’t, as long as we don’t lose by too much!”

46: And we’re back, as the referee blows for kick off again, with Vdara and Equestria both level!
51: Fotellis is trying his hardest to get though the Equestrian defence, but he just can’t get through them! Will we ever see a third Vdaran goal?
56: Oooooooooooh, that’s a rubbish tackle by Karalas! Karalas goes for the ball, but he gets an Equestrian forward and gives away a free kick! Can Equestria capitalise on this... yes they can! Equestria finally take the lead here at the VdarArena, and it’s taken them long enough!
62: Lazelis has taken the ball in the middle of the park, and he’s going to try and go for a run... which doesn’t work at all. He’s dispossessed.
65: Vdara don’t seem to have any chance of equalising, but Equestria don’t really have much of a chance of scoring another, as the defenders are snapping up every chances
that Equestria could potentially take!
78: Athanas is gunning forward to try and get a third for Vdara, he cuts inside, he takes a shot... which hits the crossbar! What a goal that would have been!
81: Væñøœrëñbérghüïś doesn’t look as angry as he was against HUElavia, nor does he really look angry at all, but I’m sure he won’t be happy with yet another loss, and nor will the fans!
90: And that’s it! Vdara take another loss, and Equestria continue their winning run!

Back in the dressing room, the players seemed to be in good spirits. This wasn’t a bad loss by any means, and Vdara had even taken the lead over Equestria, at least for 6 minutes, anyway. Væñøœrëñbérghüïś seemed to be in quite the good mood as well, starting off with this:

“Well, what a game that was, eh? Leading against Equestria? Being level at half time? I didn’t think you guys could do it, but you all proved me wrong! Good on yous! Now, I think I know why we’ve been losing so many games. At the end of the day, it isn’t really us. We’ve had some really tough matchups, and although the loss to Lo Sontano was truly a bad slip up, the other 3 losses have certainly been fought hard against, especially considering how good those teams are. Think about it, would any other team in our group have come out with victories against HUElavia, Equestria and Xanneria? I think not. We’ve just had an unlucky schedule, but I think that the next matchday is fully in our hands. Toodles to you all, and good luck for next game, even though I’ll be there anyway!”

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś went home that night satisfied with the result. His wife was still on a business trip, but he had his creamy and delicious macaroni cheese to look forward to. Sometimes that’s all you really need in life, isn’t it? With this lovely meal, Væñøœrëñbérghüïś could forget about all those losses, and focus on the future. He thought long and hard about what he would say to the players tomorrow, to try and rouse their spirits and claim their first victory since MD3. However, his mind was distracted by what was in front of him, so he put those thoughts on hold in favour of enjoying a delicious plate of mac and cheese while watching the match highlights on TV.
Come for the weather. Stay for the fitba. Leave for somewhere prettier.

WCQ, Match 4: Phoenixes grasping at straws after Darmen beatdown

Craig Blackwood scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Darmen national team to a 5-2 victory over Delaclava, in a game which spells a tale of two fortunes for the respective teams.

"We had an opportunity to make a statement in this match, and it didn't happen," manager Tim Landers said. "Now it's time for us to assess what our goals are.

"If we want to keep developing at a steady rate, we'll stick with what we have. If we want to make a serious qualification run, it's time to start taking some risks."

Blackwood, Darmen's modern-era goals leader, furthered his lead in the category, while Juanito Stafford, Avidan Tobias, and Skylar Hurst each contributed a goal. For the Phoenixes, Keaton Durbridge notched his first goal of the campaign, while Lukas Meyer inexplicably netted his sixth goal on four games.

The second seed in the group, Darmen heads to the top of Group 7 with a perfect 3-0-0 record, as top seed Nephara had their first blip with a 2-2 draw to unranked Huayramarca, who have surprised pundits so far with an overachieving 2-1-1 start. Nephara, Nuayramarca, Acronius (2-1-1), and Competitive Solitaire (2-1-1) all sit even at seven points. The third and fourth seeds, Jeruselem and Sarzonia, each lost in high scoring affairs to fall to 2-0-2.

Delaclava drops to 1-0-3, with an unenviable position in the standings. They remain above Great Lausitz and South Charlia, each of whom have yet to win games. But the remaining ten teams in the group are firmly bunched together, and the Phoenixes are on the outside of the group looking in. They have allowed 15 goals in four games - in the entire qualification system, only the defense of The Kytler Peninsulae has fared worse. The Phoenixes have already gotten two games against the top four seeds out of the way, but there is still a lot of room for improvement, and Landers has begun to consider what changes may need to be made.

Starting at the very back: Landers, who just two games ago seemed committed to moving forward with keeper George Ross, was more equivocal after this match: "It's a long qualification stage and we've ridden him pretty hard. It may be time to give him a rest and either Tomasz (Janaczek) or Jared (Thompson) a chance."

The defensive picture is currently murky, with Valentin Gusev still injured from the opening match against Sarzonia. The original timetable for his return, one or two games, is long gone, and no current estimate exists. Zane Davis struggled to fill the role into today's match, having no answers for Blackwood. Josh Torres has also struggled at right back, and Landers has the option of starting Kelly Joseph in his stead, but the Phoenixes simply aren't talented enough in the back to have a quick fix. They'll either need to make a tactical adjustment going forward or simply start scoring more goals than they let in.

Speaking of which, Meyer has been an obvious strength on the right, leading the team with six goals, and opposite him, Dathan Ingram has set up many of those goals. But the young Dashaun Howard has not been the physical presence at striker that Landers had hoped for, and he might be ready for a change: "If I put in Dec (Declan Mullins), it's a completely different look for us. Less physical, fewer opportunities to punch it through the middle, but we'd be more possession and movement oriented. And the current setup clearly isn't working as well as it should."

There is one guaranteed change in the midfield: the speedy Ryan Keating will be replaced at defensive midfielder by the large, hulking, hybrid defender-midfielder Brent Ritchie, which promises to bolster the defensive presence while allowing Rhydian Campbell, Durbridge, and Donato Girardi to emphasize the attack. "Brent Ritchie is a tough kid," Landers said, "even a bit of a bully. It might be time for us to get someone back there who's going to make attackers think twice about where they run."

Whatever the changes are, the first look at them will be against Aimena, who scored the 5-4 upset today against Jeruselem. Jayji Stadium, the 23,000 seat stadium in the northwestern coastal city of Crystal Lake, was previously selected to host Baptism of Fire group stages matches, but will now host the Delaclava national team for the first time.

Campbell, who was born and raised near Crystal Lake, said, "I'm looking forward to this match a lot. It's a very cool, modern, exciting city, with people who still value and respect the tradition of the national football team. They'll be out in full force to support us, and I hope we can give them a good result."

They'll certainly need to come up with something, and fast.

Early on, one dimension of the dynamics between players that became evident to Landerra Lazaga was the importance of the games they played outside of football. Chief among these was the sport called ormayokoa, known internationally as “jai alai”. At first glance it seems similar to squash or racquetball: players face a wall and bounce a ball against it, trying to force the opponent into a position where they can’t return the throw. However, instead of racquets, ormayokoa players use a large wicker scoop that players attach to their right hand. This allows them to fling the ball at extreme speeds – at over 200 km/h for professionals – and courts are thus very long (over 50 m) to accommodate this.

Balesio Urrute, administrator of the FAF training complex at Miotako, explained to Lazaga that it was around 640 – at about the time of World Cup 56 – that a group of players from Iturributa United petitioned that they add a court to the complex. Ormayokoa enjoys some minor popularity throughout Astograth, but was for a time heavily promoted in Echegoyan as an indoor sport for the winter months. Otz Lasuen, a young Echegoyani who’d signed for Iturributa United, was quick to popularise it as a recreational activity at the club. With the backing of Estebe Bularte, who was then captain of both United and the national team, the FAF acquiesced and it soon became a rite of passage to play ormayokoa with “the boys”, which continued to the current day. That Lazaga could tell, this was scarcely documented in the press or anywhere else, but it didn’t take long to notice that the court played a key role in the internal socialisation and politics of the squad. They’d form teams according to club allegiances, keep track of a ranking table, and joke about the matches in their downtime. Churio Aragolaza, who’d played it since he was a boy in Echegoyan, was the best individual player, though the Laurnagaray brothers often came out on top in pairings.

Videogames were another sort of game they’d commonly socialise over. Football videogames, naturally. The two most popular ones were Pro Generation Football: WCC Revolution and Champion Manager Redux Explosion; Lazaga couldn’t, at first glance, tell where they from, but they seemed to be of Hinodejin make and dubious with regard to licensing. PGF:WR is a straightforward football game, with players directly controlling photorealistic renditions of professional footballers. CMRE, on the other hand, is a more abstract game where players act as team manager and make decisions regarding tactics, transfers, and so on, without directly controlling players during matches. The series prides itself in being an accurate simulation, and includes many leagues from throughout the multiverse. The national team players mainly played PGF:WR against each other, either in person or online, and through videogame consoles, while CMRE they mainly played on their laptops or phones and would engage with each other by comparing results, swapping tips, and boasting their achievements. The ways they interacted with their in-game selves (or their stand-ins) – beelining for them, ignoring them, editing the game to boost them – was of particular interest to Lazaga.

Yokin Arana was in the process of showing Lazaga his CMRE save, where he’d managed to sign Laborious Hawk for Iturributa United and just won the Globe Cup, when the bus emerged from the tunnel and into a throng of cheering supporters, packing the sides of the street. Drums beat and trumpets sounded furiously. The players crowded around the windows to wave, amazed – they’d never been received like this in Rumiatzi! The avenue leading to North Point Stadium was a sea of green but also claret and sky blue – the colours of Athletic Club Olarria – as if the whole city had poured outside. This was, after all, the very first time Astograth had played in Olarria, and it would be the very last match at this incarnation of the ground before its impending rebuilding project. Muradil were hardly the most spectacular opponents, but a party was set up and everyone could look forward to a simple win. There was confetti, fireworks, a huge brass band for the anthems, the top regional authorities in attendance – it would be great.

Canvas was in her room, facing her bed and the books on top of it. It was already the middle of the afternoon. Hinode was busy knocking on his punching bag and he, understandably, couldn't be heard under the music. It was something that happened every day, the dark-haired young man would close himself in his room and blow an hour just beating it up non-stop. She didn't really ask him why, as she felt it was a matter of respect not to bother him too much. Their camaraderie earlier that day was a temporary thing, after all. She had to figure herself a way to live in this world and she knew she wouldn't be able to rely on her royal family links. She imagined that a gig during the afternoons helping at the school would maybe net her enough money to at least be able to afford herself the room she was staying at and maybe some food. Clothes and other necessities would probably become an issue at some point, she wouldn't be able to rely on Hinode's goodwill but she felt like leaving that for later.

Her eyes raced downwards through the words of the covers of the books. English, French, History, Geography, Maths. The girl was surprised by the number of things that Hinode had to learn on a regular day. And the books themselves were a bit large in size and numbered, which probably meant there were plenty of other books. She remembered that most of her studies back at her home planet was via listening to her mother. Her mother was pretty smart, said to be one of the brightest minds of the planet but she admitted the idea of studying with a group of friends made her stomach all fuzzy up. It was then that she felt something. She felt like she was being watched.

Canvas looked behind her, noticing who was eyeing her up. It was Hinode's little kitten, a rotund white-furred creature with a pair of horns. Ever since she arrived, the kitten seemed to dislike her. Even now, the kitten seemed to be eyeing her up in anger. Canvas sighed, looking back to her books. "Your owner is at his room, kitty. I don't think you would even want me to pet you." The girl sighed, shaking her head. But to her surprise, what she heard wasn't the kitten leaving but rather, an answer. "I'm aware, yes."

The alien girl turned around, noticing that the kitten was now a lithe girl who was dressed in a rather ornate dress in a faint tone of pink, covered in drawings of bells and cats. The girl herself had white cat ears instead of normal human ones and the pair of horns gave it away. It had to be the same kitty that Hinode was patting and taking care of. "I'm always aware of what my master is doing. It's my task. But I feel like he's not the one in danger here." Canvas blinked, sitting on the bed between books. As she was to open her mouth to start talking, the kitten continued. "Yes. I'm the kitty. My name is Rienna and I'm a guardian cat. The mother of my master, the Empress, set me up as his guardian while she's away. I only transform into a kitty in order to see if he's capable of taking care of anything."

Canvas rose an eyebrow, pondering. "So... when he's changing the litter..." Rienna's tail went up in shock and her expression went to straight alarm. "Get your head out of the gutter, damned alien!" The catgirl pouted, crossing her arms in frustration. "I'm here to offer an olive branch and here you are, making fun of me! That's not nice!" The alien princess sighed, shaking her head. "Sorry, uh... Rienna. It's just that you don't see a cat that can turn into... you know, you. But what about Hinode, does he know that you're the guardian?" She shook her head, smirking. "Of course not... And I plan to keep it that way. The young master doesn't need to know that I'm able to handle myself around but you needed to know that you're safe here."

She then showed the girl her claw, however, changing her smirk into a rather expressionless face, in order to look as creepy as possible. "But if you hurt the young master, I'll hurt you, understood?" Canvas gulped, shaking her head. "A-ah, understood... D-Don't worry about that, yes." Soon enough, the music stopped and the door of Hinode's room opened. He walked past the door for a second while Rienna was still in her humanoid form but he failed to catch the kitty's secret. Soon enough, he walked back, noticed Canvas's open door and his eyes quickly went to the kitty, back in her cat form, apparently singing with her meows.

Hinode sighed, picking the kitty up, caressing her head. "Sorry about that, Canvas, but I can't let her be in my room when I'm training, don't want to hit her somehow." Canvas nodded, focusing more on the kitty, who winked at her as a response.

"Don't worry, Hinode. I'm OK."

Following back to back shutout victories over Darkmania and Zwangzug, the Commonwealth National Team will be back in action with a pair of matches against two more of the top seven seeds in the World Cup Qualifiers Group 5, Valladares and The Macabees.

According to information supplied by the FAC Media Department, the 18 goals scored in this 4 match span are the most ever in the NSWC era, and only been surpassed on one previous occasion, which actually cover six matches in row.
BP ended their 1972 international campaign with 5-1 and 3-0 victories, and the following year, opened with a 3-1 win before a 13-0 whitewash--which remains the record for goals scored and margin--giving them 24 tallies over that span; the subsequent two matches following that result were a 2-2 draw followed by a 5-3 victory, which meant that the four game foreign tour produced 23 goals.
One can break down the stretch by limiting it only matches won, or to the series that occurred on the same tour in the same year. In either case, no BP squad have been so prolific in front of goal since that time until now.

Manager Ichi Tuzzio has shown no signs of easing up the opposition with his team selections thus far; while many fringe players got a run out during the friendlies in the leadup, Tuzzio has stuck mainly with nearly full strength starting XI's. Jamari Bozeman, Lorenzo Taborn, Sabrina Patton and Derick Briggs will be given this round of matches off, but Annabeth Westmoreland returns along with Caroline Gordon, Sarah Foreman and Emily Arnold, who were all rested.

The rare night time WCQ match at Collins Park will see the Commonwealth don black jerseys for this one-off, and the crowd are encouraged to do the same for the idea of "Black Out" night. A popular fan participation novelty in other nations across many sports, this will be the first time it has been organized for a National Team match.

lineup for MD 5-6:
starters--Gordon; O'Connell, Rasanamira, Hutchins; Delgarro, Westmoreland, Hayes, Fernandez; Wadsworth, Jones, West
subs--Johnston, Arnold, Onikambe, Nolan, Mason, Porter, Buxton, Thompson, Laing

Katrina 'Kat' Cundiff was on loan from the BCEL Beverage Co. Sales & Distribution Office in New Richmond, Endover; she had been an account rep there for 6 years, following her graduation from University of Endborough with a B.S. in Marketing.
She'd been briefed by the Deputy Sales Manager that the company was looking to get a toehold in the Maccian beverage market, but wanted to do it in a low key manner, due to the current controversy over Cocoa-bo, of which BCEL was a licensee to distribute only within the Commonwealth. It was better not have a direct link between the company and the setup for selling the regular line of products within the country, in case there were supporters of the "Ban Cocoa-bo" Movement in Maccian.
She would be working alongside a local agent who would be representing BCEL in negotiations, her role being to assist him in making presentations, and then acting as General Sales Manager when the approvals came through.

The other BP national making the trip would be Gregory Milton, a liaison from the Ministry of Industry, Trade & Commerce in Belle Haven, specifically the Overseas Economic Development Office (OEDO). His task would include smoothing over the issues pertaining to actually moving product across the border, the tax/tariff situation and the inter-governmental communications.

These three people, who on the surface appeared to have no association with one another prior to now, would form the team to bring Chappy Cola, Pittman's Soft Drinks, O.V. Ale, Sachsbier Pilsner, Hartley's Gold Label Bitter & Yarborough Porter--to name just a few--to the people of Maccian.

But beneath the surface, two of them had an additional agenda that was far removed from beer & soda.

OOC: Sorry for the short RP, this week has a lot of personal stuff to do.

Huayramarca forces Nephara into stalemate.

Ups and downs, a game of contrasts: A team used to play on the highlands vs one not used to it, an unranked side against the 4th best team in the world. Huayramarcan idea of counterattacking worked well against a tough challenge in the group. Gabriel Sayritupac said “They are out of this world! Yet we gave our best and it worked, it seems.

A game worth the ticket in every cent of an Inti, our capital was perhaps in its best galas since some years ago, when the Costeño revolution took out the old regime out of power. The Estadio Nacional de Huayramarca was definitely well set for a game of such caliber. The minnows, Huayramarca, awaited Nephara (top seed and 3rd placed team in the last World Cup Finals) with some anxiety in between, having a top team at your home soil isn’t something you expect to happen every day, but it was the day. The enormous dilemma for the Huayramarcan fans wasn’t if they would win, it was if they wouldn’t lose by a big margin at home, something that would be somewhat accepted due to the level and quality of the team but neglected by some due to the advantage it means to play at such high altitude as the one that the Metropolitan District boasts (the highest capital city in Atlantian Oceania, at 4,012 meters above the sea level). It was a duel between quality and attitude, with altitude as referee.

The Huayramarcan national team came from a sweet victory in the road against the Welzatian Royals 1-4 at the John Tretol, while Nephara beat Greather Lausitz 2-0 at the Godswatch, both teams were in good shape before the match and the mood was quite higher for the Condors, since it would be a chance to test themselves against some players that might be easily into the multiversal elite, compared to an amateurish side as it is Huayramarca. The stadium was packed since early hours, specifically since 8:00 A.M. Shall be considered that the match was set to begin at noon, hence why people was inside the venue since so early in the day. Fans weren’t so optimistic, lets face it, there were there for the sake to see Nephara playing rather than expecting a good score from our boys, who were at their fourth ever professional game. People from all across Huayramarca started to fill out the seats, gradually and covering themselves from a quite strong rain that occurred before the match.

The national team arrived to the venue at 11:15 AM, without worries, the team seemed to be quite relaxed, contrary to the main belief at the moment that they would be eating their nails since before the match due to quite vertical game that the players managed by Daniella Strauss were showing prior the game. Some joking, some others listening to music meanwhile walking into the local dress rooms. They jumped out to the field when the Nepharim were arriving to the stadium, loaded with oxygen masks and tanks in order to alleviate the impact of high altitude at Huayramarca D.M. Little to no declarations were given from both teams to the press, perhaps nerves and need to breathe and gather some oxygen were priorities rather than answer some uncomfortable questions from the media. Huayramarca would feature a modification, Luis Mamani would be back at bench after the recovery of Kevin Quispe, the brave defender that would be a key piece for this match due to his attitude of not giving up. Rather than a simple football match, the Huayramarcans would be into a mental duel, in order to keep their mindset up rather than feeling demotivated by some kind of actions that could be developing into the match.

And it was the time to begin the match, both teams jumped to the pitch and it was notorious that Huayramarca would have some edge at the game due to the altitude, the Cormorants looked quite exhausted due to their lack of acclimatization to the city (despite some media reported that they visited the Illimani National Park and almost had an incident with a llama). Nephara won the coin toss and decided to stick with the ball, which was a clever move in order to reduce chances of being taken to fatigue so soon. Close moved the ball for the kick-off, exactly at noon but not a bright noon, it was a quite windy and cloudy noon for the standards of the city, Strauss was firmly decided to take their players into a strategy of conservation for the first minutes, with some movements across the wings and in the middle, pretty much like a chess match where strategy was first. Caicedo was aware on what he was facing, risk wasn’t something to bet on at the moment, instead, betting on the known antics of “El Huayco” would be important if they wanted to have a chance, but, the Condors would need to be clinically precise to shot and extract gold from those mines called goal chances.

Huayramarca would gain possession at the 9th minute of the match, after an imprecise pass from Lockheed, Sayritupac would take that mistaken pass and would run through the wing, it was clear that he wouldn’t be reached by Longship, but Sayritupac calculated badly, he sent the ball to Ian Mamani, he decidedly kicked to Mercator’s goal in order to have a decent effort but that was far from reality, it was a way wide shot where Mercator had only to seek where was the nearest ball boy. Mamani pulled off his long hair in annoyance and took his shirt to cover his face for a bit, some frustration by a clear chance missed and doing the mistake of throwing those chances away, right into the trash can. Nephara once again gained control of the match for some minutes, Huayramarca was playing conservatively, they weren’t sure to press a bit more due to the hierarchy of the rival, perhaps, on-field intimidation is a rare thing, here would be predictable considering that it was a bunch of amateurs against la crème de la crème.

Those fears would disappear at the 20th minute, where the Nepharims were looking quite tired, losing some balls and sending them to the sides, Caicedo now asked his players to push and gain control of the match since the altitude was doing its separate game with the Cormorants. Nicolás Allauca took some control of the ball and moved near Ian Mamani in order to conform a duo of game creators, Allauca was the most visible head at the job, he was giving crosses and passes to the wingers. Abraham Mendoza had a chance at the 24th minute with a large cross coming from Allauca, Mendoza, as always, avoided to dribble and decided to run away from Kuepper, leaving him behind fast enough to make a cross searching Bryan Tello, he did it and Tello was looking for the ball but Thorn deflected the cross, the ball found Ian Mamani and he decided to kick from mid-range once again, this time, it went a bit wide only from Mercator’s goal, Mamani’s face now was a different one compared to the one he put after the last effort he did.

Huayramarca was now aware that his national team could do at least something, chances were there and there would be a window where they would react and score a goal or having a clearer chance compared to the ones they had in the last minutes. Now into the half hour of match, Kurtis Bastable was apparently choking, the match had to be stopped in order to provide oxygen to the player, he was taken out the pitch by the Huayramarcan Red Cross and provided assistance, Bastable decided to return to the field despite that the medical staff were discouraging him to do so, far away, Strauss was pushing him to return into the pitch. Nothing of more transcendence happened with him fortunately, but with the match there wasn’t an exception, a couple of shots for Huayramarca and a 50% possession for both teams were some signs that the game would be a real stalemate, despite the ranking and quality difference between both teams.

Huayramarca was pushing a bit and Nephara would do that too, at the 35th minute, Bastable would take advantage from a pass made by Moxham, a filtered one that left Bastable together with Orlando Mina, he quickly recovered and gave a pass to Ian Mamani while he ran through the midfield, Mamani gave the ball back to Mina and he shot from 40 meters away, Mercator now had to struggle a bit while ensuring that the ball wouldn’t be in. The Cormorant keeper took the ball and cleared it, the sun was now shining a bit, the ball found Kastriot, the player decided to pass but Allauca took it and started a swift counterattack, Caicedo screamed to their players to move forward and attack the rival team, they did it and Allauca passed to Mamani, he ran some meters and decided to back with Mina, he gave a cross to Sayritupac who this time didn’t stopped suddenly, he rushed past Lockheed and shot to the goal at the 37th minute, Mercator touched the ball a bit but pushed it into the goal, the 45,000 fans roared unison to celebrate, Caicedo jumped four times as a mad man while Sayritupac was searching his mother to dedicate her that goal.

The Huayramarcan happiness was high, but wouldn’t be able to stand further, Nepharim’s attitude got pushed to the front while their fans started to jeer while Daniella Strauss was thinking about crucifying her players back on the dress room. Morena Deventer beat Sayritupac in a challenge at the 39th minute, she passed the ball to Moxham on space, Moxham had the control of the ball now against Fernández, the Huayramarcan failed to mark Moxham, she passed the ball to Bastable, who was awaiting for the ball at the nearest post, the Nepharim forward didn’t waited a lot and shot to the goal, Nephara tied the game two minutes after the Huayramarcan goal, now, a sigh of relief was spotted on Strauss after the equalizer. Caicedo seemed to be disappointed after that play from the rivals, but little to nothing to do, they were saving that valuable oxygen for a play like that and they didn’t show up mercy to the Huayramarcan side, it was matter to let the first half to finish and prepare for the second, which seemed to be quite combative due to the interests of both teams, the Nepharim would not allow only one point, the Huayramarcans would try to show themselves to the world in order to seek some chance in a foreign league.

A small change for the Huayramarcan squad was enough, Nicolás Allauca was sent off and Jonathan Espinoza came into action, the recovering mid was seemingly enough gaining some support from Omar Caicedo due to the last game they had on Welzat, Espinoza was a key with two assists for the three goals made by Bryan Tello in five minutes. Caicedo wasn’t seeking for the same thing to happen, considering who the rival was, but wanted to have some more in-depth passing for the squad in order to break the stalemate. Nephara, in the other hand, decided to keep their substitutions for the last minutes of the game, keeping some of their top-guns on bench in case of need. While, Huayramarca would decide to not make substitutions unless necessary, since Caicedo thinks he need to build a strong group, with the minimal changes possible.

Second half was on, Huayramarca now had the ball and tried to do what Nephara did in the first half, keeping control of it in order to make them run and fatigue. From an outsider’s perspective, it was like fighting fire with more fire or adding oxygen to a fire that would be devastating to turn off if they managed to somehow do that! Still, in finances they say that risks are worth taking of if you’re sure on what are you doing, may that apply to football, let’s see how it turns out to be with Caicedo. 53rd minute, Ian Mamani was holding the ball and decided to give a pass to Abraham Mendoza, he kept the ball and passed to Bryan Tello, the striker had the ball for some meters until he gave a heel pass to Mendoza once again, the winger decided to move and attack the Nepharim defense this time, he reached the edge of the box and decided to shoot, the crossbar was hit and Mercator rushed for the ball, he punched it and sent it to Longship to keep his area safe. Huayramarca was now trying the classic shots, as a way to keep the Nepharim side busy in other stuff, like blocking spaces for shooting, which was quite a dangerous decision, since they would be eventually used to do that while the Condors would aim to a different strategy at any time

An hour into the match, things weren’t even close to move on, Huayramarca was appealing to their original strategy, to keep control of the ball since the upper hand was held by them, Nephara, in the lower hand, had to keep protecting themselves from altitude sickness or stuff related to breathing, despite that, Huayramarca had to keep some reserves in how the rival was playing, since they weren’t sure on how they would react to the slightest attempt of attack. The Cormorants are known for unleashing his offensive abilities at every moment, but something had to be done, it was matter to give it all for Caicedo and the team. Due to that, he asked the team to switch to their original 4-2-3-1 to a 4-4-2, now giving Ian Mamani some freedom with a second creative player, like he had with Allauca during the first thirty minutes of the first half, this time it would be Espinoza his companion for those attempts.

A quite boring game, indeed, 69th minutes in and no one had a real chance during the second half except for that shot from Mendoza fifteen minutes earlier. Some fans were jeering at both teams for the lack of attack during the second half, but as it was said before, the match seemed to be more apt for a chess-like idea rather for the full offensive game, both teams had a lot to lose and no one was committed to take full risk, except for some attempt from Ian Mamani with long range shots that were successfully saved by Mercator. Strauss noticed that Huayramarca wouldn’t show a lot of initiative despite being on an advantageous position, hence she substituted three players at once: Kuepper (Saroszi), Deventer (Strongbow), Lovelace (Metzger) were the substitutions made, it was time for the Nepharims to settle things up, it seemed, since they wanted to avoid some probable scrutiny with media and fans back at their country for tying an unranked nation… Well, altitude may count as a heavy factor but not something valid as an excuse for those judgmental fans.

Huayramarca somehow managed to try a chance at the 77th minute, Jonathan Espinoza received a pass from Ian Mamani, Espinoza did the best he could’ve done and decided to pass the ball to Bryan Tello in-depth, Lockheed stood chanceless to block that pass and saw how Tello had free space to roam to the area, he didn’t wasted time and did it, he slammed the ball in the opposite direction of Mercator and Huayramarca was now up 2-1 to the own disbelief of Daniella Strauss and players of the Cormorant team. Caicedo asked his players to focus up and avoid a surprise like Nephara did in the second minute after their first goal celebration. Huayramarca being up was a surprise for the local fans, they started to jump as the weather was turning colder and colder, since a small snowstorm was happening near the city’s center. The storm didn’t affect the pitch nor the possibilities to continue playing, but temperature was around 2°C (Usually, at 2:00 PM the thermometer is near 8°C.

The Condors now appealed to defend that advantage as any way possible, no matter what, they would try to even field 10 near the goal in order to avoid a goal from the Cormorants to happen. Fans were cheering every ball touched by Huayramarca, they were genuinely surprised on how the national team behaved during the match, despite the elevation, Huayramarca was doing a smart game against a football powerhouse, nothing bad for an unranked side though. The minutes were going off and some players tried to kick the Nepharim ones or viceversa, Saroszi was yellow carded for kicking Abraham Mendoza while he was trying to kick a ball away at the 86th minute of the match. It was so close to the end, the fans were aware that this would’ve the best result in the history for Huayramarca, a young history that tries to keep going step by step, ladder by ladder and without rush, Caicedo asked once again their players to focus and avoid another surprise in the last seconds, like if he was feeling something bad.

Three minutes were added, the fans were celebrating and burning some paper as celebration, that smoke reached some buildings that are nearby the stadium and those had to be evacuated due to intoxication risks, but people decided to stick for the last minutes of the match and then evacuate the buildings. Nephara was having a last chance, Bastable got rid of Mina and Quispe during a physical effort from the players, Bastable tried to give it all in the last seconds, she would receive some oxygen at the end of the match to compensate that effort, she decided to give a pass to Metzger, who was alone and disgracefully, he scored the equalizer for Nephara at the last second, a bucket of cold water for the fans that made how they were falling on hypothermia with the effects of environmental weather included. The referee finished the game, the local fans clapped the team after a big effort that was shockingly reverted at the end.

It’s matter to recover, an unranked team doesn’t usually put a top tier side to the brink of being defeated every day, Huayramarca achieved a splendid match that may prove as a lesson to defend better at the last seconds, to grow more in learning and use that for own benefit in the future, since there’s a lot of matches pending for everybody in the Qualifiers, there’s a lot to take and use for self-growth.

Group 3 Matchday 4: The Jovannic 4-3 Chromatika @ The Jovannic
Chromatik Scorers: Victoriane '24, Andisori '63, Mora '88.
Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Ria; Xiao - de Aea - Will - Ilya; Armageddon - Dias; Victoriane - Mora - Dragana; Andisori.
Substitutes: Kuznetsov -> Dragana ('49), Anderson -> Will ('65), Kelly -> Victoriane ('83)
Projected Starting XI vs. (UR) Wanarpu (0-1-3) @ RCK Field, Alnio (Cap. 100,400; 32,000 seats): Tioux; McBee - Anderson - Friedman - Rowles; Limones - Kim, M.S.; Victoriane - Mora - Dragana; Andisori (C).

THE JOVANNIC -

Wow. That is really all that is left to say after Jovan Ilohil scored the goal in injury time that sent the Chromatiks home with a 0-0-4 record, the worst in team, and World Cup history in the last ten years. More on that on a little bit.

As for this game, there were moments of old Chromatika that people could see, from Kaytlyn Victoriane's stunner on the twenty-second to Andisori's tap in in the sixty-third that was reminiscent of far brighter days to Hermaeus Mora's free kick in the eighty-eighth. Rather hopeful. But then, the defense kept falling apart, and when Ilohil scored that last goal, it took all the wind that the team had left out of their sails.

No staff or players chose to comment. Can anyone blame them?

So... Just how bad is this start?

A study at how teams from Pot 2 have fared in the last ten World Cups (World Cups 75 through 84) show that 61.27% of 173 nations got a win on the first Matchday, while 17.34% of 173 nations got a draw as their first points. 14.45% of the time, they got a win on the second matchday, while 2.31% of the time, they scored a draw. There are only eight of one hundred and seventy-three cases where a Pot 2 team didn't score a point in the first two matches.

Let's take a look at those eight cases. Seven times, they scored a win in the third matchday. Which leaves one case.

Super-Llamaland, World Cup 75. Second seed in Group 3, 19.08 KPB.
Matchday 1 - @ Pridnestrovia (0 KPB) - 2-3 defeat - 7th out of 7 teams
Matchday 2 - vs. Acronius (15.04) - 3-5 defeat - 3rd out of 7 teams
Matchday 3 - @ Kaboomlandia (8.48 KPB) - 2-3 defeat - 4th out of 7 teams

In the fourth matchday, Super-Llamaland of World Cup 75 faced Nuevo Caracas (1.33 KPB) - 6th out of 7 teams. They won, 2-0. Those qualifiers were twelve matches each, and Super-Llamaland ended up with a 5-2-5 record and in third place.

So, this in-depth study shows that Chromatika is the worst faring Pot 2 team in ten years. Isn't that crazy?

Hopefully they'll be able to get their stuff together and make a run for it.

THE GLOBAL LEAGUE - PART ONE
An Emplor series comparing different countries - if they could only field players from Euraleague
Report by our chief clickbaity listicle correspondent Jedrick Toddle

Hello there INSERT REFERENCE RELATABLE TO TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC - Ed.! Yes, that's right, if you got that wacky little joke, that means this article is PERFECT for you! Here at the Emplor, we're conscious that thanks to the invention of the internet, there is now demand for a limitless amount of content. To that end, we've been coming up with ideas for pointless hypothetical bullshit to get you through the day, procrastinating instead of doing real work. We're here for you! So why not start with Eura's world renowned domestic league? Its recently returned to the top of the global financial indexes, and unsurprisingly is home to a wealth of overseas talent. Therefore its the perfect subject for our experiment - we will create a number of teams comprised purely of one national group, to test which country could field the strongest team if it could only select Euraleague players. These are the rules we'll be following in this series:

- Each team must have a full lineup of 11 players, including one goalkeeper. Shock horror.
- All players must currently play in "Euraleague", ie. the top three tiers of Euran football (Gold League, Silver League, Bronze League).
- Inactive players do not count, so that means no Keith Rowland for Nephara for example.
- If a country has an overwhelming amount of good players in Eura, we may create a "B" team, or include honourable mentions.
- Teams don't have to stick to a consistent formation - for example some teams might have two forwards, some three.

At the end of the exercise, we will simulate a one off experimental league, predicting what would happen if these teams played a full season against one another. For this purpose we've hired J. Arthur Nobblegoose III, CEO of Wankleton Industries, to use his cutting edge simulation technologies to generate results. Mr Nobblegoose (The Third) had this to say:

"Yeah, well, basically we'll sort of threw some balls in a pot and then pluck them out. Roll a few dice too. Did we mention the dog fighting? Chris have we mentioned the-"

As you can see this is a fully professional operation befitting of a national newspapers website, and definitely won't be controversial. To get us started, we'll kick off with a foreign-but-not-quite-foreign example...

TEAM #1:

Image

EURAN OCEANIA TERRITORIES
Formation: 5-3-2
Captain: George Richards

Ok, fine, the Expats as they are known don't really count in the eyes of most. And half of them were Apoxians and Sunrisians and whoever else anyway, especially the retired players like Zimmer, Hardy and Ajax. Who cares? Point is, they could put together a decent Euraleague-only team, playing a 5-3-2 as defence is definitely their most Euraleague dominated area, despite how attacking their national team is under Skorji Oslograd:

Toby Cross - 19 - GK - Real Oakwood - Truth be told there is a dearth of Expat goalkeepers playing in Eura proper. This guy it is.

Timwise Gerduns - 31 - RB - Revolutionaries - The pitbull of the squad, a ferocious little player who used to be as tame as a shrew. He's been the surprise package for Revolutionaries in the last decade; who knew he could become so important?

Kurt Strong - 32 - CB - Revolutionaries - An utter tank of a player at 6ft 5in, he would be captain were it not for the natural leadership qualities of Richards. The best of the defenders even if he has just passed his peak.

Jason Potts - 24 - CB - Ulsa - EOT's future at the back some say, Potts is a disciplined and sometimes restricted centreback who is making an impression at Ulsa.

Freddie Law - 29 - CB - Carsby - He lays down the Law at the back, that's for sure. GEDDIT? You do? Oh, its just not funny. Ok. Anyway, Freddie is a bit of a "hack 'em down, apologise later" kind of defender, and that's all you need to know.

Hans Cabel - 21 - LB - Brigham - An interesting young talent, reminiscent of Gerduns in many ways. A bit dull though.

George Richards - 26 - CDM - Callodown - The most natural leader in the team which is why we've made him captain. He has a bright future ahead of him despite his current choice of club, who are shit.

Nolberto Dravon - 19 - RW - Ulsa - This guy is probably the nearest EOT have to an actual prodigy. A Sameban-born winger, Dravon already looks better at this age than Fuller (the last big thing) did. Extremely fast, and with some nice skills on the ball to boot.

Kasey Fuller - 24 - LW - Bastion - Last big thing is a title that is starting to be hung around Fuller's neck, but unfairly so. He's not even peaked yet - a talented, hard working player.

Pierre-Louis Le Tonnelier - 29 - ST - Farrenton Athletic - Key player in the real life EOT team and he'd be the key player in this side too. Le Tonnelier is at the peak of his powers and an immense talent who really should be playing for a better team, though its debatable whether his lax attitude to sports science and fitness would go down well in a proper national team set up.

Tom Duffy - 31 - CF – Ulsa - Another good player and inexplicably a Champions Cup/League winner at RGS Athletic. A traditional big old target man to play alongside Le Tonnelier the finisher and creator. Being lazy as anything is the major drawback he brings to the team.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:
Marvin Walsh - 24 - RB - Holdenberg City
Danny Lawrence - 33 - CB - Ulsa Rovers
Louie McKenzie - 33 - AM - Callodown
Paul Hooper - 28 - ST – Dartmoor
Jesus Moreno - 30 - LB - Dangerford

Join us next time where we'll be taking a look at some of the world's best footballing nations, and how they'd fare with only Euraleague players to choose from - stay tuned!

Turori Stun With Special Forces Squad in Cednia

Cednia Beach Center, Cednia, Turori :: The fans packed into the Cednia Beach Center, largest stadium in Turori and home of the nations most decorated domestic side Cednia Beach AFC. As they entered the stadium they knew who the opposition was. Audioslavia. It was the most anticipated match on the entire World Cup 85 Qualification campaign for the Turori National Team and their growing fanbase known collectively as Nigel's Army. Despite the fact that Turori entered the match as the higher seed, many of the fans entering the stadium were not optimistic of their teams chances to pull off the victory on the day. In fact, many indicated a draw would be a fantastic result to come out of the day for Turori. Ever since the sides first meeting over 60 cups prior, Turori had still yet to win a single match against Audioslavia. Furthermore, Turori had never even scored a goal against Audioslavia in a World Cup Match.

This could be different, however. It was the first time Turori and Audioslavia would meet during World Cup Qualifying. Each prior meeting between the two sides was either during the World Cup Finals - where Audioslavia directly eliminated the Eels from the World Cup on at least 3 occasions - or during other secondary tournaments and competitions. One thing the fans did not know heading into the match is who would be taking the field for the Turori National Team. The Football Association of Turori had already announced there would be no "Citizen v. Cocoabo" competition during World Cup 85 Qualifications, but did not rule out the possibility of the Cocoabo Squad making an appearance to help lessen the burden of the World Cup's longest qualification schedule in modern history.

The Audioslavia team had come out of the tunnel first. There was no pomp or circumstance this early in the Qualification campaign, no matter how high the stakes were between the two regional rivals. Then, after the Bulls had gotten to their Bench, Turori's National Citizen Squad came out of the tunnel one by one led by goalkeeper Timaala Hualtia of Inland Peaks FC. Then, they each stepped in behind the players bench and up into an empty section of stands just behind Turori's dugout. Tensions began to build. Some fans were confused but others had a hint of what was happening. Then, the light dimmed to 50% capacity in the stadium and a spotlight shone on an odd corner of the stadium. The announcer came over the PA system...

AND NOW INTRODUCING YOUR TURORI SQUAD

SPECIALLY TRAINED FROM THEIR BIRTH FOR ONE PURPOSE AND ONE PURPOSE ALONE

DIRECT FROM THE COCOABO FOREST

TURORI'S NATIONAL COCOABO SPECIAL FORCES

As the Cocoabo entered the field they were introduced one after another by the announcer. Some had been seen before, others were making their debut. But they all had one thing in common. A special crash course at the Cocoabo Enrichment and Enhancement Project headquarters where they did nothing but prepare for one opponent. Audioslavia.
