The senior Grand Prince paid tribute to Townside's Defence and Law & Order services in his Christmas Day broadcast for the way in which they dealt with SHOCK's threats of terror attacks on the Land of Townside in the name of indigenous peoples of the Isles.
The services carried out numerous investigations, operations and preemptive raids between November and December, many of which were overseen and lead by Carlisle himself, who utilised his experience in the Townside Special Air Service and the Great Christmas Island War to root out many of these would be terrorists. Several arrests have been made, all in connection to SHOCK, and many potentially deadly terror attacks have been stopped as a result. Carlisle then praised the country for its "powerful united identity" that would "shine through" all adversity "despite what members of the international community might assert". However, he continued to urge citizens to remain vigilant, as the threats from SHOCK are far from over.
Carlisle then went on to praise his younger brother, the junior Grand Prince Noah Carlisle (whom he affectionately calls 'little rice ball', apparently a watered down version of an old nickname), who opted out of this year's Christmas Message as he is currently engaged in preliminary talks with minor diplomats from Samudera, Ainslie, Torom and Keverai. These countries are anticipated to make important visits to Townside to discuss, among many other things, business, economics and trade, in major talks that would take place over the coming year. Carlisle reports that his younger brother is "excited" at these chances at diplomacy for Townside, and he even joked that he was "glad" that it was his younger brother who took a more active hand in the talks, as "Noah has always been more diplomatic and tactful than I ever was".
Grand Prince Noah Carlisle has also sent Christmas Cards to several leaders as advised by the Ministry of International Aid. This included cards to Justuva Susanto of Samudera and Anton Hemiva of Torom, congratulating them on their successful bilateral talks; Tytus Alexander I of Noronica, praising them on the impressive Victory Day Parade recently attended by the International Minister Ivan Kipling; Jyoti Thapa of Athara Magarat with an update of Athara Magarati involvement in the University of Townside; and Roland Markwardt of Verona Beach, with reports of Townside's bountiful agricultural harvest, which is a major food source for Verona Beach. These cards are personalised, and made religiously neutral for the leaders who are not Christian. Joseph Shirazi and Andrew Kenzai of Ainslie both received cards as well as small gifts from Grand Prince Noah, in light of the fact that Ainslie was the first country to achieve 'friendly' status with Townside according to the Ministry of International Aid.
Zackery nevertheless reassured viewers that Noah would conclude his work in time to spend most of the day in private with the Family, and receive private visits from many old friends, notably including Justice Windejer of the Royal Court of Townside and General Ryuu Takahashi of the Townside Army, among other personal friends.
Delivering the speech live from the National Palace, the elder Grand Prince told of the importance of "home", an echo of an ingrained part of Townside culture, which he described as a place of "familiarity, warmth and love, with timeless simplicity and pull".
By his side were the photographs of his family, including his brother, wife and children, and a separate photograph of what our experts suggest to be his SAS team during the Great Christmas Island War, whom sources close to the Family say the elder Grand Prince grew close to and treat nearly as family, due to their shared experiences and endeavours.
Carlisle also praised his wife's dedication to him, his family and the country. They have been married for a decade now, when he was 20 and she was 23. As Carlisle and his brother gets busier with military, diplomatic and administrative responsibilities, Carlisle's wife has been at the forefront of the Family's ceremonial functions, such as visiting the poor and cutting ribbons, a responsibility she has stepped up to with, as her husband affectionately put it, "dedication and grace, armed with a sense of humour so terrible she puts at ease everyone she meets".
The Grand Prince further dedicated special time during his speech to thank "those whose service to others means they will be spending time away from their loved ones this Christmas". By this, he was paying tribute to the valiant troops stationed in the South West Territory, keeping the rest of Townside safe from Imperial Forces Remnants.
He said "as I personally know, to my own cost at times, how the men and women of our armed forces, who work and toil with daily bravery and never ending sacrifice to ensure the security of the people throughout our Land... for many of them, Christmas is hardly a holiday at all. I wish to record my thanks and appreciation for their hard work all the year round, but that is particularly valued at Christmas time. Let us collectively thank those who are working so hard on all our behalf."
Zackery's tribute echoes the tribute given by Noah during last year's Christmas message, when Zackery was unable to deliver that Christmas message because he was leading a military operation at that time in the South West Territory, against Imperial Forces Remnants that had been stirring trouble.
The Grand Princes also jointly prorogued Parliament for the remainder of the year, and the Courts are out of session. Many other prominent individuals have taken the opportunity to deliver their own Christmas Messages.
The Anglican Archbishop of Townside stressed on Townside's partial Christian heritage, and that it should be a source of pride for Townsiders, in addition to maintaining that Townside was a Land for the free practice of faith without question or fear, most notably Buddhism and the Kenaris mythology.
The Catholic Archbishop was more aggressive in his speech, saying he smelt conflict in the air, especially with the Imperial Forces Remnants in the South West Territory and SHOCK.
The Five Rulers all delivered messages to their own populaces in a similar vein to that of Grand Prince Carlisle. The majority Conservative Party, and the National Party and the Liberal Party, issued similar, more reserved and traditional messages.
However, many politicians have taken the opportunity to push some of their proposed policies for the coming year, including grand promises regarding helping those who are "cut off and lonely", and addressing the need for more affordable housing and mental health support. The Women and Minorities Party and the Green Party even published their own 'Christmas Wish List' mentioning wishes such as helping those with no home to call their own or those who sleep rough on the streets... older citizens, carers and other loved ones with disabilities and dementia.
The Socialist Party even updated their manifesto to include the following: "We are a compassionate nation, and this Christmas, our only wish is to bring about the kind of society we want to live in, on our island and in Isles. Vote for the Socialist Party!".
