Separatist Peoples wrote:"Hope your people didn't like fishing. Or boating. Or having access to surface freshwater. Because you sold about every riverbank and pond." Bell rolled his eyes contemptuously at the Anarchist ambassador.

"May as well ignore him, sir. I don't believe for a moment that the so-called ambassador from Wherever is telling the truth, that his nation sold millions and millions of square miles of its own land in the course of a day just to avoid compliance with a rather straight-forward, common sense, relatively low-cost initiative like this."
-- Herbert Jackson Drane IV, WA Ambassador of the newly independent Imperial Polk County, Population 665,000. That "xxx million" population stat? It's most certainly a typo.

Essu Beti wrote:
"Against, because this proposal is literally impossible for my nation to follow." says Iksana. "We're one giant swamp. There is no way we can become a self-sufficient nation without some development of that swamp, there's no non-swamp land to construct replacement wetlands on, whether in the vicinity or otherwise, and mitigation credits? We're dependent on WA aid just to not all starve to death, do you really think we can afford mitigation credits?"
Essu Beti wrote:
"Yes, dig underground. In a place already prone to flooding, thanks to the yearly monsoons. I beg your fucking pardon, but how much of a moron do you think I am?" Iksana takes a peek at the plans. "Who drew this, a trained monkey? And the explanation makes no sense at all- drain the water into the water itself? What? As for stilts, we already have that for buildings, but it's a bit difficult to do that for roads. And before you decide to be a smartass and say "bridges," the supports have to go deep and the shade from the bridge-roads and the footprint from the big-ass supports would be enough to be "development" of the swamps. We also need to clear land for farms, for food for the humans and feed for the animals to feed the elves."
Essu Beti wrote:
"Here's my society's official response to that." Iksana raises a middle finger at him. "Did you somehow miss the part about us being dependent on the WA for aid so we don't all starve to death? Also if we ever resign, when we become self-sufficient, I'm auctioning that sucker off. It's a real prize of an office."

A quiet voice that sounded quite like a female Betian elf, spoke just behind Iksana's left ear. "You forget that you are a Tikilikrr now. As long as you don't pave over the entire island, your family can help with the mitigation costs. All they want in return is more flying snacks."

It was unlikely that anyone else could hear the disembodied voice, unless they happened to sit right next to him.

"Though the resolution at vote does not do enough to ensure wetland protection, the Grand Nation of Araraukar casts its vote in favour of it as a good first step," Johan read the official message. At least he was spared having to take personal responsibility on the important things during Janis's absence.

Is this what we've become? The World Assembly used to debate true issues and work towards peace between regions. But now we fight for the protection of wetlands that may or may not exist based on the Regions RP choices. I know for a fact that on Terra the main hub for RP in the Democratic Commonwealth there are very few wetlands and so far have not been touched. This is an issue for the local and regional governments to decide how to treat their wetlands if they have any. This should not be something that the World Assembly should enforce or consider on dictating to us the members and those outside its membership. That's why I vote no.

((OOC: What we've become? If you take a look waaaay back in the first listed pages of forum topics here, you'll see a couple of a great many attempts to Repeal #10, a proposal that would nitpick the results that could come out of lawsuits regarding tobacco, and a demand to be appointed Supreme Ruler of the World Assembly on pain of death by nuclear-exploding root vegetables.

And if you only look at voted and passed resolutions to judge the character of the WA, we have a very early one whose only purpose is to provide an in-character residence and headquarters for our ambassadors. And you can't forget, of course, the Orange Julius repeal.

I daresay we haven't become anything.))
Trust Factbooks, not stats.

The Ambassador of Essu Beti is Iksana Gayan and he's an elf. He’s irritable and a damn troll and everything he says is IC only. I would never be so tactless OOC.

National News Radio: A large-scale infrastructure project will soon be underway. During this time, for safety reasons, the island will be closed to tourists and foreign news agents. We do expect a minor loss in revenue due to this, but this will be greatly offset by both the long and short-term benefits of the infrastructure project. If your job is negatively impacted by the island closure, please send a letter or verbal message via courier to the Council so that we can add you to the list of beneficiaries of foreign aid.

OOC: Gameside stuff like regions and regional delegates doesn't exist insofar as not being able to mention them in proposals, but unfortunately nothing exists to prevent people from referring to them in IC, especially if they have good enough excuses...
