Lineups vs. Abisa: Elise; Cameron - Colbert (C) - Lorenzo; Minke - Harbin - Berit - Buric; Baumgartner - Mehdizade - Chesser. Subs vs. Abisa: Nier -> Elise ('27), Kelly -> Minke ('49), Victoriane -> Mehdizade ('72)
Goals vs. Abisa: Kelly '48 assisted by Lorenzo; Victoriane '74 assisted by Kelly, Victoriane '79 assisted by Buric, Victoriane '83 assisted by Chesser, Chesser '90+2 assisted by Kelly. Player of the Match: Kaytlyn Victoriane (3 goals)
It took three aggressive substitutions after a disastrous start that proved that Halide Elise wasn't up for playing again so soon for the Chromatiks to avoid their first loss of the cycle. However, with Meagan Kelly and Kaytlyn Victoriane coming in, and Jillian Nier providing well needed support from the twenty-seventh minute forward, the Chromatiks were able to prevail.
Then, Chromatika's worst nightmare came to fruition.
First, instead of traveling barely at all to neighbors Cosumar, they'll have to make the long and arduous trek to Bonesea. Though it's true that Threemilestone makes Bonesea a much better place to host the World Cup, it will be interesting to see how the Chromatiks handle the travel and the new atmosphere. Also, the Chromatik economy means that there won't be as many Chromatiks in Bonesea as there might be from other nations. The fortunes of Chromatika started on the wrong foot.
Second, the top seeds of the Group will be Valanora, a team that the Chromatiks have yet to beat. The Marauders will be hungry to finally distance themselves from Starblaydia as the only team with more than five titles, and whether it be pure class or too much respect given towards them, the Chromatiks will have to bring their A game. The Rebel stated that Valanora would be the top seed that the Chromatiks will be least happy to face, and that is indeed what will happen.
Third, the third seed in the group will be a side that they haven't seen in a while - the Kitsunes of Flardania, whom the Chromatiks edged out on goals difference to qualify to the Proper for the first time. The Kitsunes will be thirsty for revenge, as if the tiebreakers of that qualifiers were head-to-head instead of goal difference, they would've qualified instead. Indeed, the first match of the World Cup Group Stage - the most important one to set the momentum - will be a doozy.
Then, the last seed of the group will be Spaam. A ghost of the past - and a damn good one at that. Sporting a defense that yielded seven goals through sixteen games of Qualifying, Spaam won't be the easy three points that people think.
So, when Jillian Nier, Erika Morningstar, Luuk Aart, Zlastica Ellen, Meagan Kelly as Captain, Alyss Montague, Rachel Hellion, Carrol Liam, Trenn Rien, Keira Andisori, and Gabriella Antonio head out there to play Flardania, it won't be an easy time at all.
Also, this will be the tournament that establishes the start of Silian Parker's legacy - if last cycle was the transition one, this is the start of his. If the Chromatiks don't make it out of Groups, they are likely to drop out of the Top 10, and the country will start to demand more.
Onward, to destiny!
OPERATION NEW HOPE
And here are the five foreigners joining the Operation:
Justin Chaolan, formerly from Northern Sunrise Islands;
Tilda Oeppelwyk, from Cosumar;
Grugel Dandelle, from Farfadillis;
Clarissa Skewes, from Bonesea;
Lani Korukawurupanai, from Maklohi Vai.
Five brave souls, two not even from a nation participating in the World Cup this cycle, hearing about the Project, deciding to join. Adding a hell of a flavor! Will be interesting to see what all they bring to the table...
Colonel Erik Monett sent the message to Alina Krasnikova that the Operation was a go. They could make this work.
First, a three-day briefing in Alnio. Then, the flight, and the adventure...

Guest Correspondent: Mirian Aske
Hi! Mirian here, filling in for Jordan on this edition of our magazine's pick'ems! Before, we did it only from the knockouts on out, but this time, we're going to try to see into the crystal ball starting at the Group Stage! Without further ado, here we go!
Group A
Eshan vs. Damukuni
Cosumar vs. Gregoryisgodistan
Seems just yesterday that Damukuni took that point from us that saw us not get the perfect record. Still a bit bitter about that. Eshan has been coming along for some time. Should be a fine match to see who's the country to maybe upend one of the top two seeds. I'd give Damukuni a slight edge, but that's mostly because I've seen them play. Damukuni 2-1 Eshan.
The hosts up against the Foot Slaves. Easily one of the matches to watch for this set of matches. I'm a huge fan of Alora from her Alnio days, and it seems like she'll finally get her chance to shine. That Cosumarite defense is no slouch either, and I think one strike will see the hosts Cosumar through at home. Cosumar 1-0 Gregoryisgodistan.
Group B
Eura vs. Drawkland
Farfadillis vs. Turori
Eura had a rough qualifying cycle by their standards, with Flardania qualifying above them, but a game against Drawkland should change that. Now, before you say I'm biased because I graduated from CCCU and Drawkland beats us all the time in college basketball, I promise you that I'd be fired if I was biased. No, Eura is simply better than the Drawkish at the moment. Eura 2-0 Drawkland.
Farfadillis was outscored by not just one but two teams this qualifying cycle, and one of those teams were in their own group! The offensive juggernauts will try to get their game going against Turori, who've finally decided whether it's going to be a team of birds or humans representing them. I actually think the infighting in Turori have made them a harder team to overlook. Look for the upset here. Turori 3-2 Farfadillis.
Group C
Semarland vs. Pasarga
Starblaydia vs. Audioslavia
Ah, the Group of storylines. Was Semarland keeping pace with the Elves a fluke? We'll see really early as a Pasargan team that fought with Drawkland and Red Blackiland till the very end to get here will prove to be their stiffest test yet. My guess is that there isn't much left in the Semars' tank, and Pasarga will make easy work of them. Pasarga 3-0 Semarland.
On paper, Audioslavia is the downright favorite. However, there is some glory in just seeing the Starblaydis back in the Proper again. That being said, if there's one team that won't let respect turn into overthinking the matchup, it's Audioslavia. Audioslavia 2-0 Starblaydia.
Group D
Tumbra vs. Schottia
Super-Llamaland vs. Vilita
Welcome, Tumbra, to the World Cup! Your prize? A match against the hottest team in the multiverse. Sorry, not sorry. The Schottian machine will continue to roll, at least until that fateful second match against the defending Champions. Schottia 2-0 Tumbra.
Speaking of the defending World Champions, they'll likely make short work of Super-Llamaland in time for that crucial second match. I think though that this has a potential to be a trap game for the Jungle Cats and that they'll only pull away late. Vilita 2-1 Super-Llamaland.
Group E
Electrum vs. Mriin
Bonesea vs. Osarius
Electrum is as steady as any team goes, but Mriin is red hot, outscoring everyone during qualifying. Don't see an edge here. Electrum 2-2 Mriin.
The Bonesfolk vs. the Firebirds. Depends on which Firebirds show up - the ones from the early 60s reincarnate or the current form. Bonesfolk will be hell-bent on trying to impress their home crowd, and should prevail. Bonesea 3-1 Osarius.
Group F
Nova Anglicana vs. Ethane
San Jose Guayabal vs. Brenecia
Anyone know how the Anglicans are here? Me neither. The Flames should win this, but with that luck of Nova Anglicana, who knows? Ethane 2-0 Nova Anglicana.
The titans of Esportiva clash in the other match. San Jose Guayabal are the top ranked team in the world, but they are not the best team in their group. No, this is Brenecia's time. Brenecia 2-0 San Jose Guayabal.
Group G
Valladares vs. Sargossa
The Holy Empire vs. Port Christopher
Sargossa have been the Cinderella story this cycle, but this is where the fairytale ends. This is a murderous group for the Corsairs, and it starts with the Valladar machine knocking them down a few notches. Valladares 3-1 Sargossa.
The next one is hard to call. The Monks have mysticism behind them, but Port Christopher is just so... clean. Hell, I'll just say draw. The Holy Empire 1-1 Port Christopher.
Group H
Valanora vs. Spaam
Flardania vs. Chromatika
Ah yes, our group. Start with the easy one - though it could be said anyone whom defends as well as Spaam has a chance, it's the Elves on the other side. No miracles, not this day. Valanora takes care of business.
And to the hardest one to call. The Chromatiks know how important this match is to set the tone. Their opponents? The Kitsunes, who will be thirsty for revenge. Should be a tight one, but I think Chromatika has this one. Chromatika 2-0 Flardania.
Please remember this is just my opinion, and not those of our magazine. All banter and feedback welcome, and happy watching, fans!
