Should the US government accept sponsors?

Postby Militsia » Fri Aug 06, 2010 4:27 pm

Should the US government accept sponsors to cover the deficit?

Imagine the president starting the state of the nation speech with the words "The following announcement is sponsored by the Microsoft Corporation". While standing infront of a huge Microsoft logo.

Imagine having Google Adsense on all .gov web-sites.

This should bring in some serious cash. Perhaps the budget would be balanced for once? The sponsorship we could sell on Airforce one would be worth million each year.

People who denounce the free market and voluntary exchange, and are for control and coercion, believe they have more intelligence and superior wisdom to the masses. What's more, they believe they've been ordained to forcibly impose that wisdom on the rest of us. Of course, they have what they consider good reasons for doing so, but every tyrant that has ever existed has had what he believed were good reasons for restricting the liberty of others.

However, presumably, the business would pay for the advertising, so the government is just providing a service in exchange for money.

NO. Look at what corporate influence over the media has done. Now you want to give the corporations MORE say in the government? They almost run the place already.

Hey, we already have sponsorship of the U.S. government; ever seen a public bus? It works well there, so I say yes, at least allow space on all government transportation to be sponsored, and sell a few other forms of advertising; the only way the government has ever achieved a balanced budget has been by selling things, so I say go for it!

Good idea ;) But I'm afraid they're too busy paying their bosses to sponsor anything anywhere.
