Carl Sagan, astrophysicist and atheist wrote:"Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality.
When we recognize our place in an immensity of light-years and in the passage of ages,
when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling,
that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual...
The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive does a disservice to both."

Dread Lady Nathicana wrote:Perhaps there would be less 'vitriol' if the goram media would stop telling us a) it exists and b) keep shoving reasons at us to feel thusly, rather than just reporting the fething news. I swear, it really is getting to be more true than it ought to be, that the true three branches of government over here are the banks, Hollywood, and the media. Its clear our politicians certainly aren't doing their jobs. Looming shutdown yet again, anyone? But I digress.
I feel horrible for these people. To have something like this happen in one of their holy places, let alone at all, must come with a lot of additional feelings of betrayal, abandonment, etc. One's faith is tested enough with the loss of a loved one, without the additional tragedy of a freak accident adding to the 'why' of it all. It's not the faithful I have problems with in any case. It's the extremists who are torturing, killing, and starving their own people along with others. They are the ones I reserve my 'vitriol' for. The ones who proudly state they would kill me and mine simply for our beliefs. Not people who simply believe differently than I do. Not people just trying to live like everyone else is.
May those affected by it be able to find peace when they can, and come to terms with their loss. Nature can be a right bitch. And when you combine it with our own creations, it seems to bring out the worst in it.
It might be nice if we didn't automatically lump folks in to preconceived boxes in our posts, all the same. I have to admit, I find it mildly offensive to be expected to blindly hate just because bad things have happened, or someone has told me I ought to. Just as a suggestion, there.

Her Senate campaign was all just the result of a misunderstanding. What Schwarzenegger said was, "Ve need to haff a Repooblican Senator from Carlyfiornia," and she thought he was talking about her.

What exactly does the free market nonsense have to do with Kim Davis and gay marriage licenses?
Well, see, if she refuses to issue any marriage licenses - that is what she was doing - then the revenue of Rowan County will fall and eventually, say in ten or twelve years, the board of county commissioners will have to cut the county clerk's salary and the Ms Davis will decide it's not worth it and not run for re-election.
