As opposed to right now where they learn the history of just Christianity.

Just Christianity? Doesn't just teaching one religion violate secularism? There are many other religions in the UK that deserve to be covered, like Islam, Sikhism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.

Yeah pretty sure I learned a lot about Buddhism In my R.E. classes (what little I remember of them). As a matter of fact I distinctly remember our teacher pointing out it was rather pointless focusing too much on christianity because it's very likely we'd already be quite knowledgeable of it.

Yeah, we do have RE lessons about other faiths, although certainly Buddhism and Hinduism, at least when I were a lad, were covered in the most sketchy detail unless you went on to take Theology at college and then university.

They are significant religions in the UK, it would be stupid not to cover them.

Well yeah. They are covered, that's the thing. Even if RE is still mainly taught by guilty-looking Christian women in their forties, they still get told to tell us about Islam or Sikhism or whatever, and so do.

In the 90s and 2000s when people had money to do other things, maybe not. But it looks like the current government is certainly trying (albeit only from time to time) to get the Christian populace in on things by saying "oh yeah I sometimes go to Church, Christianity is Well Historic etc.".

Ten years ago, though, yeah, absolute career poison, and rightly so.

To be fair I wasn't actually thinking about France, although it's hard to not get into glaring when UK and France is involved

I mean, they are the nations that have fought the second most wars with each other in recorded history. And as a Swede I'm proud to have the lead with Sweden-Denmark, the officially most bitter opponents in history

True to an extent; atheism is also establishing itself as a default position amongst the youth at the moment, with most Christians possessing their faith because of their parents. The next generation will be even more irreligious.

Really? I've never heard Cameron make a statement about religion... the only time I heard some minorities seriously talking about it was when gay marriage was being debated and that passed with cross party support and with flying colors to boot.

One of the first things he talked about was how the UK was a Christian nation, and the 400th anniversary of the KJV had all kinds of ministers wanting to foist a copy on the kids etc. Here is a thing.

Well. What a Load of fucking horseshit. Some one was clearly pandering to the mostly leftist church of England  I very much doubt he was sincere though especially as his government brought through Gay marriage. But Damn... Christian Nation? Fucking glad he changed his tune.

I don't think his tune really has changed, though.

It's just that the whole gay marriage thing is one of those things nobody in the UK really cared/s about with any great amount of energy, other than like Stonewall et al, and a select group of Tories, NIrish MPs, and more socially conservative Labour parliamentarians (because the economy is still on fire and the NHS is increasingly breaking down, which is More Important, especially when the general trend on LGBT rights is 'yeah whatever go for it').

The whole Christian Nation thing is just a fop to the (really pretty vast amount of) people whose identity is bound up in a bunch of vague historical things.

I am all secular and I am not very friendly toward concession to immigrants from regions with very different values not integrating at least the most part of their mentality with basic things to have socially acceptable open beliefs in their new societies.

Nevertheless, such a ban on a traditionally aknowledged as unsafe meat source by various cultures and medicines due to various reasons cross-culturally to children is nothing absurd.

Meat, just like sugar, addicts. No, children shouldn't have contact with ham if they plan have different lifestyles for whatever reasons that might be: old Asian values coming through aeroplanes, boats and trains, or new Western values coming through conscientization. There are perfectly viable substitutes. For fuck's sake, 5-year-olds should have better diets if that is given by public money.

It's pork, calm down hippy. The reason behind the ban was not for health reasons.
