My personal affairs are generally not subject to discussion by this forum.

Then what are you doing on a thread that specifically tells you not to enter if you don't have a disability? Or in your case, you don't want to disclose it?

Because I can post in any thread I want, as long as I remain relevant to the discussion, check the rules of this forum. Thread ownership is not permitted in NSG. I know the OP requested not ot enter a thread if I don't have a disclosed disability. I'm ignoring it. He's not allowed to demand I leave a thread, or not participate in its discussion, only remain on topic. Which I have done.

But doesn't that qualify as trolling then, to participate in a thread against the wishes of others? And the movie quote stuff wasn't exactly on topic.

tsk tsk, are you trollnaming me? That's an offense around these parts.

But since you seem new here, I'll remind you yet again, read the forum rules. I am not responsible for the feelings of individual posters, or whether they get upset by my conduct. He tried to impermissably limit a thread discussion, I ignored it. If he's bothered by that, he can go somewhere where such things are allowed.

That said, disagreement, even vehement disagreement, with a discussion point is just that, disagreement, not trolling, and therefore not against the rules. Disagreeing with someone's argument is not trolling, no matter how much he asks me not to.

Amusingly enough, sidetracking a thread to acuse me of trolling IS against the rules.

An obscenely STUPID rule, but a rule none the less.

No, I'm not "trollnaming" you, I'm just trying to interpret this situation. I am not new, I have posted here for more than a year and a half. Pardon me, if you can be reasonable with me here, but even though an OP doesn't have great authority, don't they have enough to set a specific group they're trying to appeal to with the topic? Seems like a matter of varied interpretation.

No. In General there's no sort of thread ownership at all; you can't state rules (or at least, you can't expect those rules to be followed) unless they're the actual rules of the forum. In particular, trying to limit who is allowed to post here is received very poorly - people are pretty wedded to the idea of everyone being able to chip in, this being a debate forum rather than a circlejerk forum.

Luziyca wrote:For me, I have autism that was diagnosed in February 1999 (I was born on August 28th, 1997). In combination with generalized anxiety, it sometimes feels that this life is hell. For me, I have better relationships with those who are on the "typical" end of things, than those within my own spectrum. I take part in Resource, a program with those with autism in there, but I feel I don't belong in that program.

I had to repeat Kindergarten (I first was in it from 2002-2003, I repeated it in 2003-2004). I was toilet-trained at the age of 8. Heck, I even began eating a lot of food whilst in Egypt in 2002-2003 (before that, all I ate was some porridge, or oatmeal, and tapioca pudding). I even only began speaking at the age of 5. But 10 years on, I feel I have more in common with those who are typical, and that any effort to try and be with those in the same spectrum, is futile.

Thus, as I get older, I feel soon, in the future, I'll need to look for a place to live, a job. It feels so close, even if it is 1,095 days away. In three years, I'll become an adult, and then what?

For me, I feel I have wasted my own childhood; not really interacting with a lot of people, that I didn't live life to the fullest. The fact that I look back, and observe those, the children playing and I realize that it has been wasted. The sounds of them playing, the excitement. As an autistic person, it feels that my childhood has been wasted. Wasted in trying to be a typical person. I now seem to do so, as well as contribute a lot of ideas, but for me, is it worth the feeling, a childhood just burning up and running on fumes?

Nope.

However, mainstreaming and integration has done a lot for myself. With it, I am now able to relate to those who are typical. However, I don't really have a lot of friends, but many now talk to me, which is different than to primary school.

Things will look up. I know that XXX afgjbpcl can be cruel. Hopefully, you haven't been teased too much or picked on. I know how difficult it can be to feel your childhood has wasted. I personally was ignored, except when the XXX hatchback were smoking me or beating up. Most of the time I spent reading a book. It gets better, I promise you. I think the loneliness you describe is a common thing for disabled children. I give big props for the teachers. I wouldn't be where I am today without great teachers.

By shoving people out of our group, the things they are incapable of doing because of their condition (which is now classed as "not-a-disability") are things that some "normal" people have become incapable of doing, which means we will receive less assistance.

"I can't work because i'm incapable of X."
"So? Plenty of people are incapable of X, that's not a problem we're here to deal with." etc.

Some other autistics seem to think this will happen because of the new American reclassification of all autism spectrum differences into one diagnosis called "Autism Spectrum Disorder". I guess they are afraid that people who are now considered to have "Asperger's Syndrome" will be considered to have no problem at all. That doesn't really line up with my understanding of the change, though. Maybe I'm just lucky, because my diagnosing doctor could see the writing on the wall and gave me both diagnoses just to be safe. I think I agree with Aspies For Freedom (and, I think, ASAN, though I'm not sure) that the attempt to deemphasize distinctions between the spectrum differences and disabilities should be supported in order to improve treatment and understanding.

Of course, none of this will change the standard "But you don't seem autistic, what's the problem?" response that I get because I put so many years of hard work into passing as a normal person and having felicitous social relations. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Making "Asperger's Syndrome" "Autism Spectrum Disorder" too would help with the autism stereotype, wouldn't it?

What are the issues facing us (and yes, I'm disabled)? Healthcare costs, accessability (despite the now 23-year-old ADA), de facto discrimination and social stigma, lack of funding for medical research, poor quality of special education, lack of effort by shcools to make mainstreaming easier... give me some time and I can probably come up with many more.

Yay, my kind of discussion. As for the issue that I think faces us. Honestly for me, it had been getting hired, yes I do work for myself, have my own company, but before that it was impossible for me to get hired. I mean granted I'm not going to win any beauty pageants anytime soon, but c'mon.

I think another issue that faces the disabled and handicapped is the uneven level of supports across the states. There are states like New York and California that have great support and programs for the disabled and handicapped, and then there are states like well...any states in the Southeast that sucks when it comes to this area.

I think there's also this notion that just because someone is disabled or handicapped that they can't do as much, or are somehow "less" than normal people. I mean it's not as prevalent as the thought was towards blacks during the Jim Crow period, but it is there.

Those are my thoughts on the issue so far.

Okay. First off, revenge? On idiot teenagers who were idiots? I get it, yeah, in high school I regarded my 'peers' as pre-dead, shambling husks who would stumble drunk and intoxicated through life until they tripped into the grave, having contributed nothing; undead monsters draped in human flesh. But I grew out of that. Who's worse, the pre-dead shamblers or the guy who's letting himself be defined by his opposition to them? They're not worth it.

Second off, your ABC Qwertyuiop stuff is not contributing to your posts in a positive fashion. Please converse coherently!

Thirdly, I suspect you're using these abcdefg XYZ keyboard spasms to indicate whatever nasty insults you've invented for non-disabled people. I'll thank you not to insult my friends and relatives.

Fourthly, I'm sorry you've had a rough time of it. Like the campaign says, It Gets Better. But returning disdain for disdain, hate for hate? That doesn't make you a better person in any sense of the word. As far as self-actualization goals are concerned, you can reach higher than that.

Aww..So, I assume your reaching out to youth with disabilities? This shouldn't be hard, either a yes or no answer will do. What are YOU doing to make things more equitable? Talk is cheap. Thousands of kids with disabilities are being tormented while you do..what?

Second, as I have said before, this is a disabilities issue combo. If you don't have a disability, then I'll thank you not to take part. Thanks for playing!

Third and fourth, it's for me to know and for figure out. Once you do, let me know.

Amerandski - you do not get to say who does or does not participate in the General forum. Sorry. This is not your 'launch my hate all non-disabled people campaign' platform either.

If you have a point to your ranting and frothing at the mouth about how everyone not like you is so evil, this might be a good time to get to it, and suggest something actually useful, helpful, or progressive for folks with disabilities rather than 'screw all you I'm mad about how some asshats treated me so the lot of you must be punished'.

I'd suggest you ponder that before you post on this topic again. Take your time.

Then what are you doing on a thread that specifically tells you not to enter if you don't have a disability?

Because it's an interesting discussion, and there's no thread ownership in NSG.

Anyway, someone has to tell the OP that he's not high-king/hero/spokesman for the disabled.

Removing the text from people's sigs doesn't make it any less true. I stand with Yalta.

Dread Lady Nathicana wrote:Amerandski - you do not get to say who does or does not participate in the General forum.

1. I can not physically keep prep from responding to this thread. However, one DOES wonder why they'd respond. First, unless they are disabled themselves or have relatives that are, one wonders what they can add to the conversation. I mean, if they don't have a disability, they don't have relatives that do, I can only scratch my head how they could possibly offer any opinion on disability issues. I mean, they can't offer any based on personal experience, they don't know . about current issues facing the wider disabled community and they certainly do not have any stake in it.

2' I don't think their all evil. But I will note that they are a lot of people who won't use a prejudicial slur against you, but they think it in their minds. A careful reading of what I wrote noted that I singled out Special Education teachers as laudatory, and each and every one is "normal". What I DON'T do is Gove you the benefit of the doubt. In other words, based on previous experience, you don't have my instant trust. It has to be earned by deeds, not words. SaaS after all, the N R A wants a national database on the mentally ill.In the same way they suspect ( as do many ill informed people), from my own experience I suspect YOU. However, I am a fair minded person, and if your words match your deeds, then I would consider that person a friend. Also, . the long history of extermination, eugenics, discrimination in employment and housing and other discrimination, makes me suspicious of your intent.

3. To deny that those experiences were unfortunate would be a lie. It is also unfortunate that no one, despite mybest attempts, did anything. However, since you were just a thread ago laughing and mocking me, it seems that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Still, if your p "laughter" at me, it is curious to me why the idea of revenge should bother you. Am I not a laughable cripple, a psycho to be mocked and ridiculed for your entertainment? Could it be, because of the sad events in Connecticut, that you are rethinking if the laughter and mockery could lead to a tragic incident.***LET ME ASSURE YOU, I HAVE NO PLANS TO HARM NO ONE. LET ME REPEAT THAT: *** I HAVE NO PLANS TO HARM NO ONE***. My revenge is t his: I will work to destroy ALL fps of discrimination against the disabled, wherever it is found. I will get a job, and I will PISS on the faces of the losers who tormented me for 12 years. Why? Because I won't give up until I dead, even . if I have to CRAWL to do it. Because I'll work twice as hard as those losers. Because I'm indomitable.
