You (as in, your mind) is not alive, active, conscious, or anything, though, so it isn't an afterlife. The living things in that scenario are the worms, who haven't died.

The basic concept of an afterlife -- some kind of existance after you on this Earth die -- doesn't require eternal life. There could be a second "death" in it.

I don't think there's an afterlife in the Xtian sense, but I think there might be lives after this one. The living consciousness won't be aware of these. Subconsciousness, maybe peripherally. I'm pretty certain I was some kind of flight-able bird in my last one. Or the one before that. Wonder what bad I did to end up as human this time?

Probably engaging in just this kind of reasoning.

And the whole reincarnation thing is technically more believable (since the matter and energy that make you you, will continue on in a different form, afterwards) than the concept of afterlife preached by the various Xtian factions.
(I might not be 100% serious with this afterlife business. Maybe in next life I'll know better. =P)

The matter and energy that makes you is already leaving you and continuing on its own little cycle without you. That's really not reincarnation.

There is extra energy spent on maintaining that order, however. That energy goes somewere, since energy can't vanish. But someone else needs to pick this up with you, because I need to head offline now. Sorry. :(

No - not in the normal perception of the word.

But my personal theory? Souls can still be bought and sold after the person is deceased. Think of the business opportunities there! Any fool with a Swiss bank account can bid on them! You can still have your enemy's soul to lord over years after killing him.

Got that little tidbit from the Bible, no less.
