WCQ61, MD1-13 at a glance

Postby Free South Califas » Mon Aug 20, 2012 2:47 pm

Prospective Qualifications at a Glance: after MD13

Close contests (one from each group shall qualify for WCF61, one shall enter a playoff spot)
Group 20
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Akbarabad 12 9 2 1 29 7 +22 29
2 Mangolana 12 6 4 2 15 9 +6 22
3 Soviet Canuckistan 13 6 2 5 15 16 -1 20
While 17Akbarabad’s lead looks pretty solid, 69Soviet Canuckistan mount a serious challenge to 28Mangolana’s playoff bid, now within grasp in a single victory if conditions align in their favor.

Group 19
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Jeruselem 12 12 0 0 35 4 +31 36 Playoff or better
2 Michael VII 12 9 0 3 23 7 +16 27
3 Cotdelapoms 13 6 5 2 15 8 +7 23
42Cotdelapoms are somewhat further out, a win and a tie back from 63Michael VII for the playoff spot, while 14Jeruselem cruise toward the finals with a tenacious and practically unassailable lead. Nothing is for sure yet in Group 19 except that Jeruselem will take a second round of qualification to dispatch, however. Still, Cotdelapoms are considered a shoo-in for the Cup of Harmony, where they must be thought of as a dangerous side. Their WC playoff hopes grow dimmer with only 9 points left to achieve, especially if the Michaelians take another win. Of the rest of the group, all but 129Bloodbath Generation are mathematically eliminated, but with their 8-point gap behind M7 with just 9 points left to claim, they merely await the inevitable.

Group 18 is not much more than a formality now, with 18Astograth having clinched a playoff seed or better with an impressive 11-1-0 performance, 44Yesopalitha looking good for second place at 9-1-2 and 67Amstaad & Bierlin in its death throes at 6-5-2, the latter needing five points out of a possible 9 in a group that is no pushover. They look good for the CoH, however.

Group 17
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Qazox 12 11 1 0 46 10 +36 34 Playoff or better
2 Mapletish 12 10 1 1 23 6 +17 31
This may turn out to be the most exciting race for the automatic qualification spot, as the playoff field looks to be about as tough as ever this cycle. Only one loss separates 22Qazox and 59Mapletish, with a maximal 12 points yet to attain for either side. 137United Gordonopia can only go through the motions at a distant 19 points, though their invitation to Turori is all but certain. The rest are mathematically eliminated, with strong performances from Liventia, Turori, Leorudo and a Dark side shackled by inexperience and a very tough group. Expect the latter nation to be more noticeable in WCQ62 and perhaps this Cup of Harmony.

Group 16
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Phoenigetuzstha 13 9 2 2 28 12 +16 29
2 Bostopia 13 7 4 2 24 10 +14 25
3 Free South Califas 12 6 2 4 12 9 +3 20
4 Chenkorya 12 5 4 3 20 17 +3 19
With the best defense in the group by one, the surprising Harvest Mice of 142Free South Califas are giving the brutish Bostopians a run for their money. Five points is not the most realistically possible gap to bridge in other groups, but with 12 points left to play for, a few choice upsets could theoretically secure a shocking finals appearance for the Califans in only their second attempt. At the top, 55Phoenigetuzstha look respectable with a four-point lead over the favorites 13Bostopia, each side having just 9 points left to earn. It would be the second time on the trot that Bostopia aimed at the finals through the playoffs, a successful route in WCQ60, if the surging Phoenigetuzsthans were to hold their lead against tough opposition. The Phoenigetuzsthan 6-1 pounding of 215Northern Sunrise Islands balanced out their shocking 6-0 loss to 210Arcadian Islands. Meanwhile, FSC pasted 89Karditan in a 3-0 scalping that featured the first World Cup hat trick for Long Beach and national team starting forward Bela Ceh. The Mice were coming off another explosion of the counterattack, a 3-0 win at home against Arcadian Islands in which Ceh scored, along with the first World Cup goal for Channel Islands and national team playmaker Hamrah Anzalichi and a set piece assist for NT and Thousand Oaks starting midfielder Haidou Zhongyuan, all-round attacking threat, on a score off the head of substitute striker Chidiebele Guttman, formerly of Encinitas and now playing for Dwile Central in Apox. Before that, the Mice had an upset 1-1 draw at home against 55Chenkorya, fulfilling their ambitious preseason expectation of 1 point in the series against those favorites.

Group 15
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Mytannion 12 10 1 1 24 2 +22 31
2 Swartaz 13 6 5 2 16 6 +10 23
3 Thatius 12 6 2 4 19 18 +1 20
All Group 15 sides except Western Democrotic Germany and Vamprican-Krumbian Confederacy are still mathematically in it, however unrealistically. However, it is 23Mytannion who look Finals-confident with four games to play with a 7-point lead, while 34Swartaz defend the playoff spot against an upstart 58Thatian side that is just three points back, with an extra game to go. Nothing has been clinched, so anything is possible here.

Group 14
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Aguazul 13 11 2 0 27 9 +18 35 Playoff or better
2 Kiryu-shi 12 8 0 4 21 10 +11 24
3 Saugeais 12 7 0 5 27 14 +13 21
Back from their timeout for being bloodthirsty imperialists, 32Aguazul are all but untouchable now. 78Kiryu-shi would need 11 of the 12 possible points in the air to challenge them for the automatic qualification seat. They themselves, however, are watching their back for 11Saugeais of the three-point gap and 70Armed Bears of the four. North Banrodesia and Redaya are still technically in it, but are surely playing for Cup of Harmony invites at this juncture.

Group 13
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Legalese 12 10 1 1 37 12 +25 31
2 The Sylvanaes Queendom (D&S) 12 8 3 1 30 15 +15 27
3 Darmen 13 7 3 3 39 19 +20 24
One of the closest races as 64Legalese, noted AOCAF innovators, defend a surprising four-point lead over 12D&S against the full twelve points left in suspense. The Sylvanaes have an even shakier three-point lead over 40Darmen in the playoff hot seat, though the latter have one fewer game left to determine. Camwood and Sicoutimont round out the more fantastical possibilities.

Group 12
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 The FSSO 12 11 1 0 43 14 +29 34
2 Starblaydia 13 8 1 4 27 17 +10 25
3 New Montreal States 12 6 2 4 19 14 +5 20
Nothing is exceptionally close in Group 12. Shocking WCF60 finalists 8Eura have a less surprising nine-point advantage over 142Starblaydia in the qualification bid, and an extra undecided game to boot. In turn, the Starblaydi are looking better than expected with their 5-point lead over favored 27New Montreal States, but they are still vulnerable against the dedicated NMS side, who also have an extra game to contest before all is said and done. The group is expected to produce a disproportionate number of CoH invites.

Group 11
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Carpathia and Ruthenia 12 7 3 2 20 13 +7 24
2 Valladares 13 7 2 4 31 12 +19 23
3 Stachland and Minor Outlying Islands 12 7 1 4 23 20 +3 22
4 Boring Paradise 12 6 2 4 25 24 +1 20
It can hardly get closer than this. The top three places are each a single point apart, meaning that any of 57C&R, favored 16Valladares or 43Stachland&Isl.s can take the top two spots, and Boring Paradise have a realistic shot with just three points of standings gain required in their remaining 12 points of play. The rest of the table is close, but surely the top four will be seen in further WCC action this cycle.

Group 10
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Polar Islandstates 13 10 2 1 41 16 +25 32
2 Milchama 12 8 4 0 35 11 +24 28
3 Kinitaria 12 8 3 1 30 9 +21 27
With an extra game yet to play, 36Milchama can steal the qualification spot away from legendary 9Polar Islandstates, one of the most storied football associations in the world. 84Kinitaria, regular FSC opponents in friendlies, have the same number (12) of points in the air as Milchama and are just a draw away from second place.

Group 9
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Vilita 12 7 4 1 18 8 +10 25
2 Bergnovinaia 13 7 3 3 25 8 +17 24
3 Osarius 12 7 2 3 16 6 +10 23
4 Octinstine 12 6 3 3 12 9 +3 21
About as close as it gets, like Group 11. 25Vilita, 39Bergnovinaia, 50Osarius and 76Octinstine have it all to settle, though the Aggies may be slightly disadvantaged in second place with one fewer game to play. As Osarius rise in the ranks, nearing an outsider qualification for WCF61, rumor in South Califas is that Harvest Mice manager Oswaldo Garabona is looking to make an impression back home with his successful "Spread Eagle" tactics over in Group 16.

Group 8
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 The Babbage Islands 13 12 1 0 46 7 +39 37 Playoff or better
2 Kulverint 13 7 2 4 21 11 +10 23
3 Civil Citizenry 12 7 0 5 25 16 +9 21
4 Lymantatia 12 6 3 3 28 31 -3 21
While the favored sporting innovators from 3the Babbage Islands look to be running away with the group, 48Kulverint struggle to hold the playoff seat against 37Civil Citizenry and surging 101Lymantatia, both tied just two points back of second place. All four are serious Finals contenders, probably in the order listed.

Group 7
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Bears Armed 12 9 2 1 52 11 +41 29
2 Gyatso-kai 12 9 1 2 23 9 +14 28
3 Carmadin 13 8 3 2 24 13 +11 27
Tension also rules the day in Group 7, although with one fewer team in the mix. Very little separates favored 4Bears Armed, immensely talented 35Gyatso-kai and 56Carmadin, all sides with Finals experience. It must be considered a toss-up at this point, but surely they are all CoH participants at the least. Outside of those three sides' group dominance, Audioslavia and New Pebble Island have yet to be dismissed by an algorithm, but their WCQ status is only nominal at this point.

Group 6
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Pasarga 12 9 0 3 25 8 +17 27
2 Western Cuba 13 7 3 3 16 10 +6 24
The Cubans look secure against the lethargic rush of Sarrbia despite conceding a 2-2 draw at home to them, with Altito Asmoro having a similar fate in store. However, they have not settled for second place, sitting just one win or three draws out of position to usurp 20Pasarga. 66Western Cuba are also defending their World Baseball Classic titles in that tournament’s group stage at the moment.

Group 5
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Jeru FC 12 10 2 0 39 5 +34 32 Playoff or better
2 Mesoland 13 6 2 5 9 11 -2 20
3 Queer Poco el Mono Ara 12 5 5 2 19 9 +10 20
4 Slembana 13 6 1 6 10 16 -6 19
5 Scrap Brain Zone 12 5 2 5 17 22 -5 17
6Jeru FC are all but unstoppable now, but world phenoms 273Mesoland and old favorites 26QPeMA are tied for second while surprising NRSlembana and 155Scrap Brain Zone are within shouting distance of their playoff spot. Pundits and history seem to favor Queer Poco el Mono Ara, but anything can happen now.

Group 4
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Sargossa 13 8 3 2 37 14 +23 27
2 Licentiapacisterra 12 8 1 3 20 10 +10 25
3 Taeshan 12 8 1 3 13 4 +9 25
Nothing is for sure except that these three teams are the likely contestants. Among them, however, favored 19Sargossa, Esportivan upstarts 108Licentiapacisterra and bubble favorite 33Taeshan have almost nothing to distinguish them at the moment, and the field of three is wide open. One of the three nations will be disappointed after a strong campaign.

Group 3
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 The Holy Empire 12 10 2 0 48 12 +36 32
2 Nicole Scherzinger 13 8 2 3 25 15 +10 26
3 Wight 13 8 1 4 23 15 +8 25
51Nicole Scherzinger are unlikely to catch 1The Holy Empire over a six-point gap with nine points to go, but they have it all to play for, with 41Wight surging just a point behind them. Búa King of Uncertain Dimensions is no doubt dismayed by the team’s positive performance.

Group 2
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Cassadaigua 12 11 0 1 51 10 +41 33
2 The Archregimancy 12 8 2 2 27 15 +12 26
3 Farfadillis 12 7 3 2 29 26 +3 24
A fascinating split here, with the oppressive matriarchy of 7Cassadaigua dictating affairs and the oppressive patriarchy of 30The Archregimancy defending a scant 2-point lead in the playoff spot against 199Farfadillis, the rising side who are speculated to have a strong case for the CoH. New political links between the Archregimancy and the patriarchal underground within Cassadaigua underscore the tensions of the group, where the latter humbled the monks 5-1 in a result pleasing to both sides.

Group 1
Ps Team P W D L For Ag +/- Pts
1 Krytenia 12 10 0 2 31 5 +26 30
2 Cosumar 13 8 4 1 23 11 +12 28
3 Equestrian States 13 7 4 2 35 15 +20 25
Nobody is safe in Group 1, where the ponies of 68Equestrian States are within a stone’s throw of the playoff position currently occupied by 29Cosumar. Favored 15Krytenia are back in form after a couple of uncharacteristic defeats, but guard a very small lead over the Cosumari.

MESOLAND LOSE TO NON-EXISTENT TEAM BUT KEEP SECOND SPOT IN GROUP FIVE

Deep Fried Pickles 2
Unknown, 36 Unknown, 90+3

Mesoland 0

Mesoland's spot in second place may seem impossible to some people after our shocking run of results over the last few weeks, and this run of losses was last night capped off with a loss to the now non-existent and aptly named Deep Fried Pickles.

A difficult game against the now stateless DFP players started off well for Mesoland, with Nukaba and Schmitt linking up well to ravage the DFP defence. Vava and Nukaba both came close in the first half, however a quick lapse in play allowed the star DFP striker to burst through the Meso defence and blast it past Akazambaa just after the 35 minute mark, whose diving attempt to keep the ball out the back of the net was in vain. The boys in blue kept their heads up and went into the break with high hopes of clawing this one back.

The team played well in the second half also, with several shots stopped by the on-form DFP keeper. To our amusement, DFP's left winger received a red card for pushing the linesman on the left of the field and that left their wing open to attack. Unfortunately, we were unable to capitalise and even with an extra man, we couldn't find that goal. Giazanba brought on Mohammed Yasin for Vava in the 87th minute, much too late for the boys to change anything. Yasin had a decent attempt on goal, however his shot which was aimed towards the top left corner of the DFP goal flew just over the bar. Then, when the game was surely about to end, the DFP right winger launched the ball from 40 yards towards Akazambaa's goal. The Meso keeper just had time to turn and face the shot as it whistled past his head and into the back of the goal just seconds from full time. So, despite being down to 10 men, Deep Fried Pickles defeated Mesoland 2-0 at their home stadium.

Mesoland are somehow still second in their group and face Ancharmunn tomorrow, however Queer Poco el Romana lie in third with a game in hand and are on the same number of points as we are, so we'll be hoping that QPeR have a bad spell some time soon to keep our play-off hopes alive. Jeru FC are already guaranteed a spot in at least the playoffs (and surely the world cup proper), so we are now chasing the only available play-off spot in the group. Our chances of winning the group are extremely slim to say the least.

Isaac Warren, or at least the man who appeared to be him, made his way down the hallway. He saw his primary target, whose name was Luke, walking towards him from the other end of the hall. He reviewed his training, was Luke his friend? Yes. Yes, Luke Parrish was a friend of Isaac Warren. He smiled, "Hello, Luke Parrish, how are you?"

Parrish looked at him a little oddly before replying, "I'm fine, are you alright?"

"I am functioning normally, why do you pose this query?"

Parrish's eyebrows shot up, "I think you need a bit more sleep, buddy, I'll see ya at the game."

Luke Parrish walked away, very much confused. "That was not Isaac Warren, I don't know what's going on, but something's happened, and I'll wager August has something to do with it. I need to talk to Phil about this." Parrish hurried down to the next floor where Phillip Garren's room was.

"Phil, we need to talk."

"Sure, Luke, what about?"

"Something about Isaac, something's wrong, I just had the weirdest hallway conversation I think I've ever had."

"What was weird about it?"

"He called me by my full name, then asked my why I 'posed a query'."

"That is odd...any ideas as to why?"

"Nothing substantial, my only theory is way out there."

"Humor me."

"Well...you know the Isaac we know is not the real Isaac, he's a clone. The real Isaac died in the plane crash after the Baptism of Fire, but August grew a group of his clones for some reason."

"Yes, what of it?"

"Well, after we deposed August, we found the laboratory underneath the palace, with the clones killed in various ways."

"Yes, they were all dead, our Isaac is the only one left."

"What if he's not? We don't actually know how many Isaacs August made, what if the Isaac I just talked to is another clone?"

Garren's eyes widened as he realized what Luke was saying to him, "So Isaac isn't Isaac? He's a different clone taking orders from August?"

"It's all I've got."

Garren looked worried, "As much as it scares me, I think you're right. We need to be very careful around him, but I think I have a plan for how to deal with him."

"Let's hear it."

Garren and Parrish leaned in as Garren whispered his idea to Parrish, who began nodding vigorously...

Deep underneath the team hotel, Isaac Warren awoke, once more in the place of his nightmares. As this realization dawned on him, he cried out so loudly he rattled the medical equipment and shook the light fixtures.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Sparky's Stance

Two games ago, we had a chance of finishing first in our group and perhaps advancing automatically to World Cup proper. Two games ago, there was hope of that, and much more. Now... it seems that the Flames have relegated themselves to being just another second place team, hoping to peak at the right time, which will be the winner-to-qualification, loser-to-better-luck-next-time game that will occur after the final games are being played.

Don't get me wrong, they have played great football this cycle. But the one-nil loss to Astograth, at home, killed. We could've made a statement out there, shown the world that we were there to stay. Instead, we are left with a bitter taste in our mouths as we look back at all the opportunities we had and how we wasted them all.

Then, to add insult to injury, we had to tie against Bisim. Bisim! Come on... I guess the players were emotionally fatigued or something... But now, we're literally almost two games behind Astograth, and Astograth has the head-to-head tiebreaker. It doesn't seem like we will be qualifying automatically this cycle, unless Astograth messes up in epic fashion, which will most likely not occur.

So, here we are, hoping that the Flames will play some decent ball, and looking at Group 17's standings to see who we might be playing against...

And I thought that this might be the year that we just took care of business ourselves. I guess I was wrong.

Maharamba in Wight

After being appointed the Chief Annoyance Officer in the court of the King of Uncertain Dimensions, Maharamba the demon-child assassin went outside for a breath of air. There, he noticed someone that he had never expected to see again - someone that he had hoped he would never see again - Jeremiah the Samurai's mother, the woman that he had turned into a Vampire and forced the Samurai to kill. He had caused a son to kill his own mother, and that was why Jeremiah the Samurai had hunted him down and killed him.

He tried to avoid the woman, and pass by inconspicuously, but it wasn't to be so; the lady, screaming at the top of her lungs, started to shout, "You foul-mouthed murderer! If you hadn't turned me into a Vampire I would not be in this godforsaken place now! You come here, I will make you pay!"

Wondering how the woman had turned back into a human when he had turned her into a vampire, Maharamba sprinted back into the court, hiding behind the King of Uncertain Dimensions, with the really mad woman following right behind him...

Postby Unified Falcon » Mon Aug 20, 2012 3:39 pm

Imara Newson, the Manager of the Unified Falcon Peregrine Falcons, walked wearily to her hotel after a practice in which she had told the team that this was just not their year. With one win, five draws, seven losses, and eight goals scored while allowing nineteen, the Falcons has crashed and burned. With the media's pressure and the disunion between the two teams, the Falcons had crashed. And it seemed that there was nothing that could be done about it, not from their perspective of things.

As she walked, she remembered the joy that she had felt when she was first appointed to this position. She had thought that she could make a difference where Johannes Barr had failed. Barr, being the great man he was, had sent her e-mails of reassurance and consoling, telling her that he was on her side. He had been nice, unlike so many others, and she had appreciated that.

Perhaps the period of time in history in Falconfar/Falconear at the moment was such that success could not be found; perhaps it was just that they weren't good enough. She had wanted to be the leader of a team that brought a people together; now, they were the prime example of the state that the Unified Republic was in.

She couldn't help but let out a sigh of exasperation as she walked...

The next moment, she felt something hit the skin between her neck and her right shoulder. She heard the breathing of someone behind her. Then, she felt an intense searing pain as something sharp entered her skin. The pain repeated itself as the sharp object went out, and then in, and then out again as she was stabbed repeatedly.

The last thing she remembered was her body hitting the ground with a thud and blood gushing out of the wound.

Then, she blacked out.

Incredible comeback leaves Farfadillis with chances for a play-off

Today at the I7'snerra, Farfadillis got 3 really important points. And with an incredible comeback.

The match started horribly, with TaQud taking the lead on the 10th minutes after a free kick from Di Anonymous which hit the post and left Lisdiren laying down in the floor, impotent. The I7'snerra was silent again. 5 - 1 against Cassadaigua and this now? The match continued witth TaQud at the front. Farfadillis couldn't do much mainly because of the absence of Numbá. He said it was because of personal issues, and secret sources say it's because his father has a terminal illness. In his place played Fragerda, who did a decent job overall, but wasn't a good enough replacement. We went to Half Time 1 - 0 down and it didn't look like we were going to rescue even 1 point.

On the second half things weren't better, TaQud was still playing better, and we were literally on our box. They did the merits for a second goal, a third one and maye even a fourth one. But luck was apparently on our side, as we got an equalizer on the 80th minute. Dandalleion ran for a long ball and chipped it over the TaQudani goalkeeper. Equalizing and making the I7'snerra explode. But the best was yet to come, as on the 2nd minute of stoppage time Frêndê would get a ball outside the box, dribble 2 players and bend it in unbelievably, scoring the 2 - 1 and giving us 3 points. The referee blew the whistle and it was over.

Tomorrow we'll play a match which will be the most important in our footballing history, against The Archregimancy.

We'd also like to tell you that the DVD offer is over, you can still get Farfadillis second DVD after the qualifyings end.

LUKA Sabčot scored a superb hat-trick as Kinitaria completed a double over Eastfield Lodge, moving to within a point of group rivals Milchama.

Although they still have to play the group's top two seeds, the result puts Kinitaria in a good position ahead of Iturributa's visit to Mi'ato, a team that the Kinitar side has already beaten away, and keeps the qualification dream well and truly within reach.

Kinitaria's 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture was marred with controversy, first involving the composition of the opponents, something which Kinitar boss Tofiq Yurovič took severe exception to, and then a serious and unexplainable injury to substitute left-back Cyril Novak led to tempers flaring between the two managers. Novak has since been treated in a facility in Eastfield Lodge, with the approval of his parent club Mi'ato City, and has recently returned to Kinitaria, although club spokesmen have indicated that it will be a while before he is ready for professional football again.

This time around, Kinitaria knew exactly what to expect, and there would be somewhat less animosity during the game - much to the relief of the additional police and security presence the KFF had requested inside Mi'ato's Central Stadium. Quite what the additional security staff would have done in the face of a rampaging 15-foot lava beast remains a mystery, but this proved unnecessary.

With the home side fully aware of what they would come up against, this game was able to kick off on time, and produced some entertaining end-to-end football from the start. It was the visitors who had the early chances, their Raston Warrior Robot blitzing through the Kinitar defence to unleash a fierce shot at Petran - however, while the robot may be incredibly fast, it proved not to be particularly accurate, and the shot sailed harmlessly over the bar.

But the hosts were able to take chances as they got them, Luka Sabčot in particular proving to be a tough adversary for the admittedly versatile Eastfield Lodge defence. The Kinitar striker was able to chest the ball down upon receiving it from Naoumov, hurdle a challenge from Rory Williams and burst into the penalty area before curling a 15-yard effort around Blon with his (weaker) left foot to put Kinitaria into the lead.

In Lodger City, Eastfield Lodge reacted fiercely to going behind, and they did exactly the same here in Mi'ato, Kinitaria's back line having to retreat in the face of a renewed surge from the away side's attack. They didn't have defined positions as such, with players free to drift into the attack at any point, and it certainly worked as a strategy to baffle the Kinitar defence when the reptilian Madame Vastra burst into the attack, collecting the ball from the Doctor and firing straight at Petran in the Kinitaria goal.

And it wasn't long before the pressure would pay off as Eastfield Lodge forced themselves an equaliser - admittedly from a Kinitar defensive mistake. It was a shot by the Doctor that sparked the move, and although Spirlea was on hand to get rid of it, his clearance was hasty and sliced wildly into the air. Eastfield Lodge's Reaper appeared out of seemingly nowhere to steer the ball past Petran and put his side on level terms, much to the frustration of Tofiq Yurovič, who clearly took exception to some of the defending on show.

If Kinitaria's defence has looked dangerously shaky at some points of this qualification campaign, then it is in attack where the team have really excelled, and they showed their resilience by launching into an immediate attack. It wasn't long before Sabčot was able to pass it under the feet of the looming Pyrovile to the unmarked Mihalcič inside the box, and the forward showed no hesitation in taking the ball forward and planting a placed shot into the bottom corner to restore Kinitaria's advantage.

Coming back from behind twice seemed a little too much for Eastfield Lodge, although they did have chances to do so, Creet - showing exceptional ball control for a metallic sphere - sending a shot flashing narrowly wide, but as the visitors continued to press for another equaliser, Harkness was caught out in possession by Lupei. The Kinitar defender was able to thread a through-ball towards Naoumov, who swung in a cross for Sabčot, catching it first time with a sweet right-footed volley which was never going anywhere but the back of the net.

The smash-and-grab raid from Sabčot meant that Kinitaria went in at the break with a comfortable 3-1 lead against a team (theoretically) ranked a good thirty places above them. The home side's players had a confident air to them as they trooped off for some time with their manager, the game already well wrapped up in their minds.

As it turned out, that would be suicidal thinking. Eastfield Lodge came out for the second half having been given the proverbial rocket by manager Rasillon, and immediately set about laying siege to the Kinitar goal. Strax, a fast player despite his pudgy appearance, was the cause of constant trouble amongst the Kinitar defence and nearly claimed a deserved goal with a volley that found its way through a crowded penalty area, but Petran was equal to it and managed to hang onto it.

Kinitaria would be forced onto the back foot throughout the opening stages of the second half as Eastfield Lodge showed that they weren't done yet, some good build-up play from the midfield freeing the Doctor to beat the offside trap and - despite Kinitar protests - plant the ball past Petran to haul his side back into the game. Kinitaria would appeal, but the flag stayed down in what was probably the right decision.

With their lead in danger, Yurovič hauled off Andonov in place of Sebastien Sykora in a move aimed at reshuffling the fragile home defence. It seemed to have a positive instant impact as Kinitaria were able to build up patiently from the back, Yulian Kovačev receiving balls from the defence so that he could set up an attacking run from the versatile wing pair of Pročazka or Vacarestič, or else to Mi'ato City's front two, Mihalcič demonstrating this principle well when he chested down a ball over the top from his captain, but didn't have time to compose himself and the ball would be swept from his feet by the Raston Warrior Robot.

The game still hung in the balance and Eastfield Lodge spurned several great opportunities to pull level once more. Perhaps the most glaring came when Petran misjudged a corner from the right, leaving Williams with an open goal to aim at, but somehow, substitute Sykora got back to hack the ball off the line and preserve Kinitaria's lead. Shortly afterwards, the Doctor found himself clear of the Kinitar defence but was thwarted by an onrushing Petran who dived at the striker's feet to impede his progress.

Kinitaria were in danger of losing their lead, but they managed to wipe out the Eastfield Lodge resistance with a killer fourth goal as the game drew to a close. Sabčot might have got the goal but it's Paolo Naoumov who made it, evading the lumbering Pyrovile and chipping up a perfect ball for Kinitaria's star striker to race onto and fire past Blon to wrap up the game for Kinitaria.

The sixth goal of the game ensured that there would be no dramatic finish, and the game ticked away to a conclusion shrouded in a lot less animosity than the return leg in Eastfield Lodge. Indeed, the game was mostly played in a spirit of fair play with not a single yellow card being shown by the match official. Even Tofiq Yurovič seemed in amiable spirits, shaking the hand of his opposite number after the final whistle before making his way up the tunnel.

Kinitaria keep hot on the heels of Milchama following this superb result, but still need to gain two more points than their qualification rivals over the next four games if they are to advance. The run-in looks tricky, including away trips to both Milchama and world number nine Polar Islandstates, but first, Iturributa are welcomed to Mi'ato, and given that Kinitaria won the corresponding fixture 3-0 away, the mood in the Kinitar camp is said to be positive ahead of this crucial game.

Tofiq Yurovič, manager of Kinitaria, after his side overcame Eastfield Lodge for the second time:
"First off, I'm glad that this match was played in a less hostile environment than the first time around. I'm not sure if it's because we were at home this time or because we knew what to expect or what it was, but everyone's stayed calm this time and we've gone out and won - twice - against a team who are officially ranked well above us, so you can't diminish the significance of this result. It proves that we're a team competing at the top table now, which is just wonderful considering that we've only been playing competitive internationals for less than two cycles, and we can already take on some of the top teams in world football and come away with our heads held high. It's a mark of the future, and it's a mark of what I want to achieve as Kinitaria manager, but to do it so quickly - I don't think anyone expected that.

We've been given a lot to deal with in this game, because Eastfield Lodge are a very good attacking side, and they've proven that with a couple of well-taken goals, we've been pushed all the way but we didn't let it get to us, and we've just gone and got some very good goals of our own. It's fantastic for any player to get a hat-trick on the international stage, but that's what Luka [Sabčot] is capable of, he's done it twice in this tournament so far and I think it just shows the quality we have at our disposal. Of course, we're not a one-man team, and there's been some fantastic contributions from all areas of the pitch to make this result possible. It's been a real team performance and every one of the players out there has chipped in something.

I'm not going to get into the speculation about whether we're going to qualify. Obviously I want us to - I mean, that's our aim for this World Cup - but I can't predict the future, you know? We've been unlucky in the sense that the fixtures calendar has given us a lot of the harder fixtures stacked towards the back end of qualifying, it's left us with the top two in the group away in the last three games, but we're just focusing on the Iturributa game for now. We might have beaten them once but we can't afford to get complacent. We're preparing for that game just as we would any other, and we're ready to go out there and play our best against what is still a very capable Iturributa side.

Well... we're still mathematically in it, I suppose. However, we are still five points back of second-place Nicole Scherzinger, and we still have to play the #1 team in the world. We could potentially pass up Wight for the #3 spot in the group... but there's not really much point in that other than irritating Búa.

Most recently, the Falcons avenged their earlier loss to West Zirconia with a 2-1 win in Wingipeg. Boris Halth took a Zirconian down the wrong way in the box early on and the penalty was converted fairly easily; otherwise, the defense and Vladimir were pretty airtight. McClain took a potshot from well outside that somehow managed to snake its way into the goal to equalize the score. Later, Baez hit a beautiful cross that Jarrel headed in to take the lead; the Zirconians never were able to put a strong attack together after that and full time ticked around rather uneventfully.

Previous Entries in "Norm Bates: Tolten's Fire"

With hellfire, Tolten's reckoning had come. As the ultimate prize in the push to wipe out the Republican industrial base, the true fighting had finally come to Tolten. Neighborhood by neighborhood. Block by block. Building by building. Room by room. From the earth to the sky to the rivers that gave Tolten life, war was everywhere.

It had never occurred to anyone how total the fighting could be. Airstrikes, mostly from the Monarchists who had long since gained superiority above, were a constant occurrence. Artillery could strike at any time. Tanks and heavily armed infantrymen shared the streets with loosely organized militias, and fearful civilians. Nowhere in the city was safe.

All of this was absent from Norm's mind, though, as he fought to take Tolten Police Department Headquarters alongside a number of the insurgent forces that had brought the war to the city long before the Monarchist Military finally arrived. The only thing he could think about was victory. One hallway at a time, Norm and his comrades engaged the members of the bureaucratic machine who had been so unwilling to alleviate the crime-ridden slums of the city, but who had not hesitated at the opportunity to put down the strikes and protests of the laborers who inhabited those ghettos. On one level, taking the complex was simply another step towards the liberation of Tolten. On another, it was a sweet gesture of vengeance.

Taking point, Norm prepared to breach a room designated as 'Homocide Records', though he thought little of what was inside. Nodding at the men next to him to give the go signal, he tossed a hand-made explosive through the door's window, waiting for it to detonate before kicking the door down. Inside, there were only two men, both wearing the blue uniforms of a lawman, and Norm's small fire team immediately dispatched them. Although there were certainly some moral objections to the 'take no prisoners' approach, the frenzied nature of the ongoing battle made prisoners too much of a liability. This, and the high emotions that came with the storming of the TPD building.

As he made one final sweep, though, Norm caught a glimpse of something on one of the standing shelves that gave him pause. Among all of the files containing records on the city's murders for the past fifty years, one name jumped out in bold, capitalized letters: 'BATES, JAMES'.

Norm knew immediately that the case within the file could only be his father's. Suddenly, he realized something that made him order his comrades to hold their position so that he could investigate the file. In the briefing, the wing he was in had been described as the records area for modern closed cases. Norm and his mother had always been told that the case had never ended, that the killer had never been found.

Frantically, he tore open the file to skim through his contents, and came upon a page entitled 'Case Closure Report'. What he found made his heart practically stop. The 'perpetrator' line of the form contained a single name: Joseph Warrens. Joseph Warrens was the mayor of Tolten.

In almost complete shock, Norm could barely continue to read. He managed, though, to read through the 'final comments' section. The short paragraph contained there was simply too much for him to be able to contain his emotion:

Pursuing prosecution of perpetrator at this time deemed political liability. With no outside attention on the investigation, and the reputation of a high-profile civil leader at stake, the case officer believes that the actions committed are better kept out of public knowledge, unless necessary to sway the actions of the perpetrator in the future.

In a fit of rage, Norm threw down the report. This revelation was something he had never expected, but it gave him a dark motivation to fight harder than he ever imagined he would up to this point. The Warrens, and the entire corrupt machine that had sustained him, would pay.
If you ever have an RPing question, please TG me about it.

COASTAL ZANDAR CELEBRATES AFTER HOME WIN AGAINST 82ND-RANKED ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUK, OUR FUTURE CAPITAL?

ALPHABET NATION TURNED INTO SOUP AT THE FEET OF BRILLIANT DOMINGO, ELIMINATION STAVED OFF ANOTHER DAY

In Zandistan yesterday, the home squad took on a team ranked 113 spots ahead of them in the official KPB World Rankings, so a loss was highly expected. City Council members from Fortunata and Krumping Bay had prepared scalding reports on the failure of Coastal Zandar to supply a proper sporting atmosphere in the stadium, letting down the team en route to a loss. Still, the plucky Zandistan squad had other ideas.

They held the attack of their opponents, with save after save from keeper de la Mega. The Zandistan attacks were few and far between, but stalwart defense kept them from allowing any scores. Halftime, 0-0. The same score held throughout the second half and at minute 85 it was still a deadlock. The City Council members of Fortunata and Krumping Bay began modifying their press releases. While making them less negative, they still criticized Coastal Zandar for not providing the energy and atmosphere to spur Zandistan to a win. Although they secretly hoped Zandistan would lose and they could rip up Coastal Zandar for it.

And it seemed they would get their wish. Another late push by ABK, and a cracker of a shot, but it went just off of the crossbar. With the power on the shot, it bounced clear back out of the penalty area to Tangari on the left wing. He sprinted forward at light-speed, knowing this was the one chance to take advantage of a hole in the ABK defense, as they were all forward on the attack. A defender closed on Tangari, but he played it all the way up to the sprinting Flavio Domingo. A one-on-one with the ABK keeper, and a late stunner to put Zandistan up 1-0.

The City Council members gnashed their teeth. They could no longer bash Coastal Zandar the way they wanted: a win was a win, no two ways about it. But there still were criticisms to be found. They accused the city of hogging all the home matches, not allowing the other cities to display what they had to offer. “Why do they get to host all the soccer matches?” the Councils complained. It was undeniable, they did have a point.

And Krumping Bay and Fortunata simultaneously sent their requests to host the match against unranked Warkus, but neither wanted to take the match against 104th ranked Boring Paradise. The ZNFA suddenly had a dilemma on their hands: who to listen to? They agreed that Coastal Zandar would not host either of the remaining two matches, but how to split it up amongst Krumping Bay and Fortunata?

Still, after the match ended, it was obvious that Coastal Zandar was a worthy city: they had taken Zandistan to victory, keeping them alive in Qualifying, if only for one more day. The people of Zandistan couldn’t care less about how Fortunata and Krumping Bay wanted to host, as long as matches were won in Coastal Zandar, that should be the team’s home.

Odds:
Coastal Zandar: 51%
Fortunata: 27%
Krumping Bay: 22%

"Evenin' Gunnar, the usual?"

"Aye, ta Yannis. Much obliged." answered Gunnar, closing the door of The Auld Creaky behind him and stepping inside as Yannis turned off the radio.

"...AS BACKYARDS SPORTS FELT THE FULL FORCE OF THE POLARIAN ATTACK FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS CYCLE. ELMSVIKUR WENT ON TO ADD TO HIS ALREADY IMPRESSIVE TALLY IN THE SECOND HALF, SCORING THREE MORE GOALS TO TAKE HIS PERSONAL TOTAL TO FIVE AS THE RANGE OF PASSING FROM VAN SORENSEN CUT THROUGH THE OPPOSITION DEFENCE LIKE A HOT KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER. WITH NO HOPE OF RESPITE FOR BACKYARD SPORTS, THE TERNS CONTINUED TO FLOOD FORWARDS, AND GOALS FOR KVITCHENKO AND VIK GAVE THE SCORELINE A DISTINCTLY ONE SIDED APPEARANCE. FURTHER GOALS FROM VAN SORENSEN AND BERGEN CEMENTED THE RESULT DESPITE TWO MORE CONSOLATION GOALS FOR THE HOME SIDE, BUT THE DAMAGE WAS LONG DONE. GOING INTO THEIR BYE DAY THE TERNS NOW LIE FOUR POINTS AHE -..." *click*

"Now, that's much more like it!" exclaimed Gunnar, happily sipping on his pint of Grogg.

"Doesn't say much for the defensive capabilities of this squad though, does it really?" pondered Yannis, polishing yet another glass vigourously.

"Who cares when we're scoring nine goals a game?"

"Schwartz might, especially given the way he's been setting up the team recently. All set up to not concede and win game by a single goal to nil. Remember the Copa?"

"Aye, but, nine goals. I think we can allow the defence to go to sleep a little every now and then if we're winning by a margin like that.

"You say that," said Larsen, popping up from behind the counter and scaring both Gunnar and Yannis, "but it can cost you games. Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Thor's beard, Larsen!" shouted Yannis, clutching his chest melodramatically, "How long have you been down there exactly?"

"Long enough to know you're paying your cleaner far too much. Now, are you going to hear my story or not?"

"Do we have a choice?" asked Gunnar, hopefully.

"No."

THE UNDERDOGS FINAL
The final of the 1946 Latitude Cup has gone down in history for being a final between two sides that nobody thought would ever find themselves in a final, let alone playing another team of a similar calibre. Prior to the 1946 season, neither Bohemiens Grise Fiord nor Fort Logan had ever made it past the second round of the cup, but both embarked upon great runs to reach the final for the first and only times in their history.

Bohemiens were team whose origins could be found in the Rochefroids communities of Ellismare, originally coming from Cotdelapomais immigrants in the previous century. Now a fully integrated part of the Ellismare civil make-up, it was only natural that the Rochefroids speakers in the city of Grise Fiord should fashion their own football team, and so Bohemiens were born. In the previous rounds they had made it past such sides as Northbrook Diamonds FK, and FC Axel Heiburg, before brilliantly outclassing Red Star Severny in the semi finals, utilising their own tactical strengths at the right pressure points of the Red Star set up to score four goals in an emphatic home victory.

The path for military based Orkness side Fort Logan was considerably easier, never facing what you might call one of the favourites for the trophy until the semi itself, having to put out teams like Krykkjesund Olympic, Bielstrich FK, and Dinamo Clavering along the way. They came up against a strong East Franz Athletic side in the semi final, and went two goals down at half time before a brilliant second half hat trick from star asset Bjorn Holmrig sent them through to the final.

The venue for this final that nobody expected to see was Landstadt Stadion, home by day to SK Franz Josef City, the largest stadium in the region at the time hosted five Latitude Cup final consecutively during the late forties, of which this final was the first.

THE BIG DAY
The day of the final arrived with torrential rain. Latitude Cup finals were rarely played in good weather thanks to the season, but generally the rain comes at other times in the year, and to feel the liquid precipitation at that time of year was unusual, and make for treacherous conditions on the pitch.

With the ball alternately sliding, skidding, and getting stuck in pools of rapidly slushing water, the match started, and Bohemiens quickly showed the tactical awareness that saw them outmanoeuvre Red Star in the semi final, Jonas Tveit scoring twice in the opening fifteen minutes to give the Grise Fiord side a commanding lead. Bohemiens continued to adjust to the difficult conditions faster than their opponents, and they ran through two more goals before half time through Oyvind Saint-Germain and captain Pierre Ortendahl, leaving the Fort Logan side with it all to do in the second half, and the neutral supporters that had hoped for a close battle between two closely matched sides disappointed.

Fort Logan had done it before however, and they did it again in the final. Against East Franz it had been a rousing half time team talk from manager and former military officer Ilya Luakkanen that had been credited with firing up the Fort Logan players for an inspiration second half performance, and here again it was the case. Fort Logan came blazing out of the blocks with two attempts on goal hitting the woodwork in the first five minutes following the restart. They continued to press, and though Bohemiens threatened on the counter attack, it was a fifteen minute spell of genius from Bjorn Holmrig that really set the match alight.

A shot with the right foot, a diving header from a corner, and a left footed lob, all from Holmrig, meant the match was set up for a thrilling last five minutes as a result. Neutral fans were raving about the play, the most exciting Latitude Cup final in years, and Holmrig had set records in the process - he was the first man to score a hat trick in the final of the Latitude Cup, the first man to score consecutive hat tricks in any round of the cup, and the scorer of the fastest hat trick in Latitude Cup history, the latter breaking his own record that he'd set just weeks previously at Rendahl Stadion.

It was not to be however, and Bohemiens held out doggedly in the last three minutes of added time to cling desperately onto the lead they felt they deserved, and the trophy win their fans were praying for.

LEGACY
The match went down in Valhallan history, but neither side were ultimately able to repeat their performance in the cup ever again, with neither side making it past the quarter finals any year since. Bohemiens enjoyed several seasons of renewed interest in the club as a result of the win, and went on to post several strong league showings as a result, finishing as runner up on three occasions and winning the Ellismare league in 1952. The post-Latitude glow lasted until the late fifties, when results began to dwindle again. The club stills dine out on the Latitude Cup win of '46, and the players of that squad are regularly guests of honour at club events, though the club itself remains in the second division of the Ellismare league today.

Fort Logan had a much more uncertain future just seasons after their brave runner's up placement, and after the sale of prized striker and fan favourite Holmrig to National Hauker the following season, results began to suffer. They bumped and scraped along the bottom of the Orkness league until 1956, when they merged with Logan Town FC to become Logan United.

"I still think you're missing the point," said Gunnar in response.

"And what point is that?" asked Larsen.

"Nine. Goals."

"Well, whatever. By the way, Yannis?"

"Mmm?" responded Yannis absent mindedly.

"Remember that rat you had and then didn't have all of a sudden?"

"Yeah?"

"I found him whilst I was down there."

"Oh. I've been wondering what that smell was..."

Stachland Reds

After a Matchday Off, Reds Look Forward to Taking Care of Business

by Witold Elliott

After one matchday off, the Reds are currently sitting in third place in Group Eleven, with twenty-two points total. They trail Carpathia and Ruthenia, with twenty-four points, and Valladares, with twenty-three points. The upcoming match between Stachland and Carpathia and Ruthenia will go far in deciding the fate of the group.

“Valladares has played one more game than either us or the Carpathia and Ruthenia squad, so it’s very possible that they could fall out of the top two altogether,” observed head coach Theodore Czacki. “Our next match will decide a lot.”

Better Know a Stachland: The Kingdom of Stachland

For more than four hundred years, from the unification of Stachland by the mythical King Stach to the Stachlandic Reformation which saw the ineffective King Ludwig replaced by a democratically-elected Popular Congress, the islands were ruled by a monarch. Today, we are taking a look at the House of Stach, the first to rule the Stachlandic islands and the family from which the nation takes its name.

Image

King Stach: (98-128) While many parts of his life are lost to history, it is known that King Stach united the numerous city-states along the interior coast of the western island in the Year 121 of the Stachlandic calendar.

King Ignacy: (115-138) King Ignacy, the only child of King Stach, had a ten-year reign relatively devoid of important events. His greatest contribution was simply to hold the country together for future kings.

King Jerce: (130-170) King Jerce was perhaps the greatest of the four kings of the House of Stach, ruling for thirty-two years and establishing much of the infrastructure that still exists in the vicinity of the capital city of Chevronia today.

King Ignacy II: (152-171) King Jerce’s eldest son, Adam, was killed in a hunting accident as a young man, resulting in his second child, Ignacy, rising to claim the throne. Ignacy was a sickly child, and ruled for only ten months before succumbing to pneumonia at the age of nineteen.

Following the death of King Ignacy II, the throne passed to Joachim, Ignacy’s uncle, and the first Stachlandic king of House Czerkowski.

En Route, *smudge* Stadium, City of *smudge*, New Pebble Island
1620 hours local time (UTC *smudge*), 20 August 2012.3

At least the bye was... productive... thought Team Captain Kad'e Tay'haai as he sat in the plush seat of the team bus, watching the *smudge* Stadium growing larger in the distance. Not much was known about New Pebble Island, or its team. The only thing Tay'haai knew was that at home, nine matches ago, they almost gave Gyatso-kai the first loss of the tournament...

That dubious honour went to those bears...

Thankfully, Tay'haai was able to get the ball on a short pass deep in Pebble territory, and make a short bolt to the net, and out-think the keeper to score the game's only goal. It was a relief for Tay'haai, soon subbed out for a pair of fresh legs and watching the team switch to the defence. However, even then, Tay'haai knew the team would be changing. Changing, for the worse or for the better... he just didn't know.

A large black binder sat on his lap, its pages marked with various tabs and stickers, all signalling it study. Tay'haai hated playbooks --- always had --- but he understood success had a manual, and often, that manual was a playbook. It was cumbersome, and having already committed it to memory over the last three weeks of play, Tay'haai wondered why Vhett was doing this...

Handing control of the offence to Leifong, and then the defence... and now, essentially the entire team... Tay'haai thought, looking back to his former line partner, Wakahisa Hikaru.

The look on Wakahisa's face was one of solemn, and Tay'haai knew why. Being placed on the reserves was never something a player with his skills wanted, yet Wakahisa earned that spot with his outburst against Leifong Saikhan.

Yeah, Leifong was right... We needed to shift our shebs up-pitch more and play as forwards and not midfielders. But the Carmandese team was putting on so much pressure...

Carmandin. Oh spirits, their head coach. I cannot believe he fainted. On the pitch. Thirty in to the game on a good shot, too... Hope he is doing better.

"Kad'e." The voice boomed so loud it startled Tay'haai. It was Leifong's --- so much more raspy and harsh compared to Vhett's --- from the front of the bus. Tay'haai stood, and moved his way up the aisle, pass the midfielder's section of the bus. Tay'haai, the captain, situated himself dead middle of the bus; row 24, seat one. On every trip, that was sit. He needed to be in the middle of it all, with his men, amongst his men. Distant from the staff who occupied the first three rows of seats.

As Tay'haai stood next to Leifong, he could not help but feel... uneasy. The man was a mountain next to Vhett, bred from a different stock of people. Whereas Vhett, a Mandalorian of mixed heritage, primarily Southern Water with some Fire thrown in for heat, Leifong was pure Omashuan; thick, solid, built like the peaks which surrounded and engulfed the city kingdom of Omashu. He was a bender, a rare trait amongst the coaching staff, and much to Tay'haai's chagrin, he used his bending during practices.

The morning runs, Leifong made the ground horrendously uneven, and shifted it constantly through the hour drill. Skirata almost broke his ankle...

You need to be able to adapt. To think on your feet. To change direction at a moment's notice, he shouted before hurling a sand boulder at the young Skirata, only to watch him take the hit dead on the chest and fall back. He missed his calling, and Leifong should have been a pro-bender, not a coach...

"Yes, Coach." Tay'haai stated. Sure, it was meant to be a question, but really, it came out with a bit more annoyance than that. Leifong looked up, hearing the tone of Tay'haai's voice and pointed to the empty seat across from him.

"Have a seat."

"Okay,"
Tay'haai uttered, ever as nervous as he could be around Leifong; it wasn't nerves, more so as it was adrenaline. Adrenaline did funny things to a body, and when Tay'haai felt that surge, he gained a bit more anger at the world. Unfortunately, Leifong was the focal for that anger. "How can I help you?"

"Listen, I know you are not fond of Vhett taking the next game or two off, but he placed me in charge, and you need to respct that."

"Sir, I do respect your position..."

"Don't give me that , Tay'haai,"
Leifong sighed as he turned more towards Tay'haai. It was kind of funny, Tay'haai thought, seeing such a massive man crammed into such a tiny seat. He had to use every ounce of strength to contain the laughter. "I can sense it every practice, every time we make eye contact. You do not respect me as a coach..."

"Because you are the offensive coordinator..."

"I was at the start of this tournament. With Vhett's absence, Liu has taken command, and he appointed me his second. We are trying to turn the team around, and that means there are changes. Vhett approved them, so you should be fine with them."

"As Team Captain, I voice the concerns of the men on the team, and they are all..."

"Are they all?"
Leifong's voice grew in volume slightly, and some of the players closest to him simply turned up their music and closed their eyes.

"Yes, sir. All of us do not like the shift to such an offensive focus. We need a balance," spoke Tay'haai, turning the playbook to Leifong. "We need to attack, but we need to defend. Bears Armed will murder us if we stick with just offence."

"I know this."

I know this? The answer caught Tay'haai off guard, and he was showing it on his face as clear as a Keldabe sunrise. You know this, and yet you still are forcing us to adapt? What the haran are you thinking you di'kutla aruetyc chakaar?!?! Tay'haai had to adjust his position in the seat to better face Leifong, whose dark skin and sharp edged face was framing an evil smirk.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, I know that this offensively-minded playset would kill us if used in our final match against Bears Armed. Kad'e"
--- Tay'haai hated that Leifong called him by his first name --- "you need to understand, and you of all people should know this." Leifong took a deep breath, and exhaled lightly.

"Sometimes, you are given orders which you do not understand. However, you still have to follow them, because, up the chain of command, there is someone who does understand those orders. Do you think I understand why Vhett is shifting the focus?"

Tay'haai leaned back again, dumbfounded. He forgot that Leifong was just the sergeant of the team, under the lieutenant of Liu Qiang An, who was under the General Boba Vhett. The chain of command, defined by ranks and experience on the battlefield.

Now do you understand?

Without a word, Leifong waved off Tay'haai, who was all too happy to return to his seat. Did Leifong mean what he said, that he had no idea what was going on, and he was simply passing on orders.

I hope Bo'buir returns soon...

"Hikaru," Leifong spoke, that same deep, raspy voice echoing through the bus. As Tay'haai squeezed by Wakahisa in the aisle, he could tell by his former partner's face that he wasn't expecting this conversation to go well...

National Team Has No Game This Week, Coach Announces a Small Roster Change
With this Matchday being a rest day for the Beaverriver National Team, coach Lance Kerlin announced a roster change for the remaining games of the World Cup Qualifying stages. Kurt Anderson was off the roster after his abysmal performances recently, the new starting left back is Ian Quirzo, upgraded to starter from substitute and the new substitute Christan Wetzell from Salvan City. The 21 year old played fantastically the recent season in the BRPL getting on the league second best leftback only behind Ian Quirzo of rival Port Salvan FC."It was wonderful to get called up to the national team especially after my great season at Salvan City." He said about the call up. "His only downside is his willingness to go up the wings for the attack as he rarely does it, but I'm not to worried about that as he usually passes it off to the midfield." Lance Kerlin answered when we asked about Christan's downsides.

Final Home Match Yields Disappointing Draw
By Steve McNotapony

CANTERLOT - The final match at the Equestria Dome for the Equestrian national team could have gone better. Drawing against the only unranked team in the group, losing star goalkeeper High Soarin' to an injury in the opening minutes, and having to rely on the defense to score has to be a sign that the team is in for a tough last few games of the qualifying campaign.

It was a bad match from the start. Allowing Jeptier to launch an early attack was bad enough, but when one of the visitors' unnamed forwards tackled goalkeeper High Soarin', things went from bad to worse for the Equestrians. Sure the offending forward was sent off with the fastest-drawn red card that I'd ever seen, but High Soarin' had to be carried off the pitch by the team's medical staff. Coming in to replace the injured pegasus was the almost totally inexperienced Mac Stevenson.

With his only international experience coming from the U-17 squad's disastrous Quall Cup appearance, it was a shock to many that the human keeper even managed to make the national team. Even more surprising is that Barrel Roll (the other back-up keeper) wasn't chosen to replace High Soarin'. It didn't take long for the Jeptier offense to strike at Stevenson, hammering away in the hope that he would mess up. And mess up he did. Just three minutes after coming into the game, the hopeless keeper fumbled what should have been a routine stop and the ball bounced once and then into the net. This grave error sparked a torrent of booing and groaning from the over 80,000 Equestrian supporters in attendance. Knowing they had to keep an unexpectedly aggressive Jeptier offense from getting too many shots on goal, the Equestrian defenders stepped up their play, though it did result in more fouls than usual for the team.

The match dragged on with the teams locked in a defensive duel. Neither team would really come close to scoring, though the Jeptier defense began to slow as the first half drew to a close. As the Equestrians headed off the field at halftime, Mac Stevenson was targeted by several fans armed with hay fries and soda. These fans were soon escorted from the stadium by security, but received cheers and applause from many. Head Coach Twilight Striker was the last to leave the field, barely containing what could only be fury.

When the team reemerged from the depths of the stadium, nopony tossed any food at them, but they still looked upset and annoyed. The second half - for the most part - was the same style of play that had been seen in the first half. While the Equestrian States was more dominant, they could not find an opening to score an equalizer. The clock became the team's greatest threat and by the 80th minute, nopony was deluding themselves with dreams or hopes of a win. All that the fans wanted was a draw and the merciful sound of the whistle to end this hell of a match. With just a few  minutes left to play, Flitter and Cloudchaser went on the attack, pressing back a tiring Jeptier defense. Finally, in the 89th minute, Flitter found a hole, heading the ball past the outstretched arms of Jeptier's unnamed goalkeeper for the equalizer. If the fan response to Mac Stevenson's error was the most hostile in stadium history, the response to Flitter's goal was perhaps the most joyous. While the match was still a blow to the Equestrian play-in hopes, it was a relief to many that the embarrassment hadn't been completed with a loss.

The Equestrian States will now embark on a long road trip to end their campaign. First on the list of opponents is Vindesby, who has been a group punching bag, losing to the Equestrians 5-0 in their first match. Vindesby will be followed by Hutt River, a bye, and then the dreaded trip to Krytenia to end the group stage of the World Cup qualifiers. Most predictions have the Equestrians finishing third in the group and making the Cup of Harmony, though qualification is still possible if Krytenia and Cosumar somehow manage to blow the majority of their remaining matches.

The Slembana Times: Finally! A friendly win!

By Peter Whiteman, chief football reporter at the Royal Slembanan Stadium, Bafilo (attendance 136,853)

We have finally recorded a friendly win on the international stage - 3-1 at home to VANTELIRA. We opened the scoring in the 15th minute, when Val Kylx headed home a free-kick from Jyvx Dagens. The same player doubled our lead in the 34th minute, when he curled home a free-kixk of his own. Going into half-time, we were 2-0 up and dominant - we had loads of shot's other than Kylx's two goals.

VANTELIRA striker Pavlin Paskov hit the post in the second half before scoring on 54th minutes with a scissor kick. Late on, with VANTELIRA chasing an equalizer, we scored again, when Finlay Yalnif's cross lopped up off Martin Ananiev, and Dorrin Forrester scored his second goal in 14 internationals with a bicycle kick.

FUCK ISRAEL! I support peace, therefore I stand with Palestine. I want a bi-national solution, a state in which Jews and Palestinians can coexist peacefully. The onus is on Israel to stop this - it can do it anytime by bringing a ceasefire and ending apartheid.

Harry Malsomp sunk into his chair holding a glass of whiski* he took off his glasses rubbed his eyes and with a heavy sigh he picked up the latest copy of The Daily Review. The headline "Eagles Defeated Again" glared at him, this was not how it was supposed to happen, Harry had expected more then just three wins this late in the campaign he reflected on the past few results, all losses, close games they were but no matter how close the game they would still walk away with no points. He took a sip and sighed again he was frustrated, his players weren't playing to their full potential his tactics weren't working and the high morale that the team started off with was slowly draining away. He knew his team could play better football he had seen it he now had to convince them of that. He continued to read the paper focusing on articles that talked about him and the team, the good cheer the media put towards them after the first few games had given way to anger and resentment, one fool was even calling for his immediate resignation! Harry threw the newspaper across the room, and paced around the room, yelling to no one in particular (for there was no one there) "The nerve of these guys! They couldn't coach a team if their lives depended on it. And to think I should resign, these lazy layabout should get real jobs". He swallowed the remainder of his whiski and slammed down his glass. He knew he would continue to get pressure from the fickle media that would always turn on any international team that failed to perform to expectations, even if those expectations were unattainable. After the last game against Audioslavia, Henry refused to speak to the media, he knew that he would receive further criticism for that, however, the 2-1 loss thanks to an own goal by Neumadoor in the final minutes only added to his frustration and he wasn't ready to speak to anyone but his players and coaching staff about it.

There was a knock on the door, Henry walked over and opened it and there standing was his Captain Johnathon Brigss-Way. "Morale has been dropping, Harry we need to do something to turn the team around" Johnathon said as he walked into the room. Harry nodded in agreement and replied "Our next game is against Bears Armed, that isn't going to help us". Johnathon poured himself a glass of whiski before stating "I know and with Solomon picking up a strained hamstring I expect more goals to be scored then last time". Harry went silent Solomon hadn't been the powerhouse he was in the domestic league, none of the players had, they may have had flashes of brilliance that all fell away when ever the play went against them. After taking another sip he responded "Frakus will have to do he is a good keeper we just need to work on our back line, it's the main thing that has let us down". Johnathon finished his glass and left with a quick goodbye "I will do what I can with the team hopefully we can finish on a high over the next three games". Harry struggled to smile there was little hope of winning the next three games certainly not against the top two teams but he knew he had to get the team playing to their full potential again and he had to show strength to help morale. He sat back down and started writing some tactical changes, if he couldn't win the next game he could at least get the boys to lose respectfully this time in front of a home crowd, he knew he had to otherwise people might start taking that fool of a reporter seriously.

Amy Pond and Princess Melody Dallas with a broken hand

Amy: Well, a bit of disaster today.
Melody: Well, you could say that again.
Amy: How did you break you hand?
Melody: You know Rachel Meanie?
Amy: I was going open a door and she opened it. She doesn't open a door, she really lets it fly and my hand was holding the other handle, crack.
Melody: Explains why you didn't play.

Amy: Not to mention Lexi Belle is at home.
Melody: So we're down two defenders before we even get on the field.
Amy: Explains why Meanie is keeping a low profile today.
Melody: Of course Mum wasn't happy
Amy: So what's broken?
Melody: Just two of five fingers on that hand don't work. Like I don't need them.

Amy: How long will you be out of the team?
Melody: Might not even play any of qualifiers left.
Amy: And we lost a game today.
Melody: Good thing we lost to someone who's not going make the finals.
Amy: Yes, the points went to someone who won't bother us.
Melody: Two wins between us Mickey 7

Amy: We were long overdue for a loss.
Melody: I guess we were.
Amy: On the painkillers?
Melody: I will be for a while.
Amy: Could have been worse.
Melody: I see the Jeru FC girls lost today too.

Amy: Except they lost 4-1 not 2-1
Melody: Jeru FC do that once in while.
Amy: So what you gonna do?
Melody: Stay home. I guess I can work more songs.
Amy: Hard to write with hand
Melody: Oh yes, it had to be writing hand.

Amy: Sounds like fun.
Melody: Doing stuff under influence of painkillers.
Amy: I guess it makes partying difficult.
Melody: How am I supposed to hold two drinks now?
Amy: I guess it even affects your drinking
Melody: It's all bad I tell ya

Play-Offs In Sight
Incredible draw with FSSO as Ko-oren do Starblaydia a favour

Nobody expected Starblaydia to be in this position with two games to go. Though the 2-2 draw with The FSSO confirmed the Euran side's progression to the World Cup as the top side in Group 12, the incredible point for Starblaydia - and subsequent loss for New Montreal States against Ko-oren - means that a Play-Off spot is still in the running for Starblaydia, who have their destiny in their own hands.

Though the gap to The FSSO above them is a huge nine points plus a game in hand, Starblaydia sit six points above New Montreal States, who also have a game in hand. The realists know that NMS's game on Starblaydia's bye day is against Mashiki. Mashiki started this campaign well but have fallen massively by the wayside and can now only hope to equal Starblaydia's current point total with three successive victories for their last three results. Technically, five of the nine teams are still fighting for this second chance at the World Cup, though realistically only two or possibly three have a chance.

It could be all over by the end of the next Matchday, of course, depending on results. New Montreal States host The FSSO, while Starblaydia travel to play the already-eliminated Aexalla, who Starblaydia defeated earlier in the campaign. All it takes is both Starblaydia to win and New Montreal States to do anything but win, and Starblaydia are through to the playoffs. Don't mention it out loud, but Starblaydia can even afford to lose both their next two games, as long as NMS pick up less than a win and two draws in their final three matches, with Baltskandio doing less than two wins and a draw.

Matchday 16: NMS vs FSSO, Aexalla vs Starblaydia.
Matchday 17: Mashiki vs NMS, with Starblaydia having a Bye
Matchday 18: Baltskandio vs NMS, Geisenfried vs Starblaydia

It's close, so very close. Way back in World Cup 17, Starblaydia made it to their very first World Cup thanks to a Play-Off victory over Tanah Burung. That day, a certain S. Di Bradini scored the only goal of the game that took Starblaydia through. It won't take much for Starblaydia to hold on to this spectacular run to second place in Group 12 and, from there onwards, it only takes a single game to be back among the big boys, the best 32 teams in the world. Anything can happen in a single, one-off game. All it takes is a single piece of luck, one ninety minute period of good fortune and Starblaydia will be there, in Valanora and Andossa Se Mitrin Vega. Father Jaun's Starblaydia side just need to hold their nerve to get to that game.

"A pity that they didn't mention you or the SFA once," said Chorus, unexpectedly.

They won't mention my tenure of the SFA until we've actually made the Play-Offs, I expect- Jules thought back. Hey! How did you do that? Have you been reading that along with me? In my head. Seeing through my eyes. My Chorus, watching me. What are her eyes like?

"We need every opportunity to promote you," Chorus insisted, "the people must see that you're a leader, a winner, the first and right choice for everything."

Everything?

"Everything."

"Oh," Jules said out loud.
