[excerpted from a press release published by the an amateur news service in Kiryu-shi]

The past few months have seen the most precipitous change in the social structure of the nation of Kiryu-shi within the last sixty years. It comes on the heal of the success of Ms. Tziganes d’Arányi, a football player for the Kiryu-shi national team who has demonstrated considerable skill at her position, becoming one of the national icons. Her presence on the team, however, was extremely contentious for a fairly simple reason: she descended from a group of political dissidents who left Kiryu-shi generations ago following persecution and eventual disenfranchisement over the color of their hair. d’Arányi, however, has sparked the Kiryu-shi national team to an unprecedented second place thus far in the qualifications for the sixty first World Cup. With eleven goals in nine matches, accounting for well over half of the goals scored by the Kiryu-shi squad, she is on a prolific scoring pace and has been the clear-cut offensive leader on a team that has traditionally lacked for goals. And even though Kiryu-shi has looked less than stellar over the past month, and will face another huge hurdle in a revitalized and hungry Saugeais squad who will be visiting next week, d’Arányi has become a national sensation.

The implications of her success have been dramatic. Over the past three months, a massive flux of returnees have shown up in Kiryu-shi proper, prompting the creating of a new national sub-committee to figure out this problem. Although membership of the new sub-committee has not been confirmed as of yet, emergency legislation has passed that would make it necessary for one of the returnees to be represented on the sub-committee, marking the first time a redhead, once thought to be soulless devil-people, has sat on a governmental board in over a century. In addition, the redheaded returnees have proven vital in helping in both the design and construction of Kiryu-shi’s new national athletic complex, being developed and built in the Sakaino district. In fact, although they have been gone for many years, they seemingly have integrated well into the social fabric of the nation.

This story has provoked extreme backlash among the religious right-wing of the nation, the once powerful and all-encompassing Quee party, led by devotees of the God Quee. Protests have rocked the capital buildings in Kasakake, as well as Sakaino University, a known center for redheaded returnees, and known as the home of Kiryu-shi football. The Quee-folk, who have been tied to the destruction of the old Sakaino Athletics and Performing Arts Center, have tried both legal and illegal ways to stall the construction of the new building with numerous mysterious small fires having been started in and around the construction area, as well as several Quee-dominated committees allying in protests of the Sakaino University’s new stadium. These protests, however meaningful, seem to have less bite to them than protests that occurred during the AOCAF, held several years ago. In fact, even though the attacks have become more conspicuous, the number of people conducting the attacks and protests have decreased significantly. This correlates strongly with the population data, which shows a significant drop in the population of several of the districts known for being home to Quee-folk, and the closing of several Quee-dominated industries, as well as anecdotal information available that indicates that many Quee-folk have vanished from Kiryu-shi.

While speculation abounds, some have ascertained that, the Quee-folk have now solicited the advice of the people the previously pressured to leave, and have moved elsewhere on the island, outside of city limits. While such reports have not been verified, as Kiryu-shi winds its way through the second half of World Cup Qualifications, there is no doubt that the Kiri now embody a rapidly changing Kiryu-shi. This is the most secular government the nation has had in recent memory, a fact that has divided and disrupted life in the nation, while giving new citizens opportunities that they have never been able to encounter.

This movement comes after large protests over the fact that two Kiri members are now playing oversees, a sign to come, perhaps, of the growing internationalization of the country itself. Starters Lilly Yume and Will Feingold have both left their Kiryu-shi Universities to play abroad, after signing contracts with two separate teams. Furthermore, this World Cup has seen the largest number of foreign guests, as Kiryu-shi has officially started to promote a tourism industry. Likewise, the government is making it more and more possible for Kiryu-shi citizens to travel abroad, although bureaucratic difficulties have held up the process of allowing tourism visas to visit countries outside of the Atlantian Oceania region.

This World Cup Qualification cycle will be remembered, no doubt, for more than the success that the Kiri have on the field, and may go into the annuls of Kiryu-shi history as a truly revolutionary year.

"We need an official song or poem for the Imperial Club!"

"A song that celebrates the finer points of being a chap - and thrashing Khytenna 3-0!"

"And calling Bua 'Mr Stinky Poo Face!"

"And generally showing our innate superiority over lesser nations!"

"Rah!"

"Rah!"

"Rah!"

"I know, let's ask Isaac the Prince Imperial to write one - he can always be relied on to conjure up a poem!"

"A really bad one..."

"Yes, but he's a Prince; we sort of have to ask him...."

A Song for Chaps!

By Isaac, Prince Imperial

Oh Chaps!
Clad in finest gold and red!
Each morning getting out of bed
So as to train to play football
But that's not all!

You are quite certainly the most magnificent football team ever!
Even better than those silly Elves who've been playing forever
Or those purple-clad Starblaydis
Except for our assistant coach, who's a bit of a chap himself
And not an elf.

So let us sing songs about Mr Poopy Stink-Face
Leader of Wight
A land with many a bay, river and bight
And defeating the other teams in our group,
Who are not all stinky or poop,
Like West Zirconia and Oswaldia and Khytenna
And the other teams whose names don't end in 'a'!

For we are chaps!
Clad in finest gold and red!
Each morning getting out of bed
So as to train to play football
Even when we stumble and fall!
Τί ἐστιν ἀλήθεια?

Licentiapacisterra 0 - 0 The Icemark
World Cup Qualifier
Venue: Unknown, Licentiapacisterra
Attendance: Unknown

For The Icemark, coming away from Licentiapacisterra with a point is a sign of how things have changed since their last encounter. That night, The Icemark trudged off at Odin’s Hall after a 2-1 defeat. Wind forward to the present and the contrast in mood and performance could hardly be greater. "Things are looking up," said player/manager Redrought Lindenshield, after the match. "We're definitely improving. Before the game we would have taken a point, but, looking back, I think we were the better team, and might have won."
If events back in the first fixture confirmed how much The Icemark had fallen at that time, then events yesterday demonstrated how far they have improved since. The disappointing factor is that they have only picked up midway through the campaign. The World Cup may be an unrealistic target now, but after two good away draws, and a run of four games undefeated, the teams ambition still remains strong.
There remains much for The Icemark to do, given that they sit six points back from second place in a congested table. They must turn their draws into wins in the upcoming games. Yet there are reasons to be positive after this impressive display.
The Icemark more than held their own and for periods were the better team, against a Licentiapacisterra side that has proved themselves capable of beating the top teams like Sargossa this year. The Icemark displayed good organisation, tactical awareness and pleasingly sharp passing as well as spirit and hunger. Also encouraging was that the draw was earned with a positive approach, not ground out negatively like they are known for doing.
The signs are good all over the park, with Athelstan and Athelflaeda finally beginning to find cohesion in defense. Theowin, seems to have come out of her shell, and has begun to replicate her menacing club performances down the left wing.
The most important shift on the day though came in central midfield where E Celeste and Stagapoulos are beginning to form an excellent partnership. Stagapolous value was plain to see as he gave a controlled and conservative display, rarely venturing forward but always protecting his defence and using the ball sensibly. This allowed E Celeste the freedom to push forward, knowing she was well covered.
It was a credit to The Icemark’s deep defending in the first half that Licentiapacisterra created little. Though, they did have periods of great pressure, particularly in the early stages of the first half, The Icemark defence held them at bay. However, Licentiapacisterra did have three good opportunities, two that had to be saved by The Icemark goalkeeper, and one which was wasted.
After the interval the Licentiapacisterra goalkeeper was much busier having to make two good stops. The Icemark might have won had they taken their chances. Lindenshield wasted a free header, from a W Annis cross, and E Celeste shot wide from point-blank range, a couple of yards out.
Honours even then. The Icemark earned a well-deserved draw, but have to wonder in the backs of their minds, if it could have been much more.

Sargossa have gone 3 points clear at the top of the table with an emphatic 7-3 win in Danaelia. Taeshan’s 1-0 win against Ayrshire puts them in joint second, with a game in hand on their rivals. Elsewhere, The Kytler Peninsulae were victorius by a single goal in Remad.
Sargossa still look favourites to take the group, with Taeshan and Licentiapacisterra looking likely to battle it out for second spot. The Icemark and The Kytler Peninsulae have an outside chance, but both will need to go on good runs.

9 United Federation of the World 9 1 2 6 6 16 -10 5

Next Opponents:

The Icemark V Danaelia

The Icemark host Danaelia in their next game. Danaelia have had a rough introduction to the World Cup, winning only three games – which incidentally is exactly the same amount as The Icemark has won, just showing how poor they have been during the first half of qualifying.
Danaelia, in stark contrast to The Icemark are extremely weak defensively, having conceded seven in a single game twice already, and six on another occasion. The Icemark will no doubt target this.
Ironically Danaelia’s stand-out performance during the campaign came against The Icemark, when they shocked them on matchday 3. The Icemark will be looking for a better showing, than they produced on that day. Anything other than a win and their already bleak looking chances of challenging for a play-off spot will be extinguished.
Previous Meeting: Danaelia 1 – 0 The Icemark
Prediction: The Icemark 1 – 0 Danaelia

from a burned scrap of paper found in a gutter next to several broken bottles near what appears to be a small pool of quickly cooling blood

noise
the noise in this country is never as loud never as powerful as it is when i
travel
but
today
this country was as loud as i’d heard it but the sound was not
quite
right

the district was aioi cosmopolitan a nice place or so they say but today it wasnt them apparently it was the other that group of people that talk of quee i know
because they chanted
quee
quee

and it was all i could do to not soar up wildly hitting them in the face for the noise
but no not today i shouldn’t couldn’t there were too many of them to begin with and anyway north bandrodesia was on me most of the match like
white on a white food substance

perhaps it wasn’t so difficult the kiri distracted slow confused even when for example olive ferguson captain defender extraordinary laid into me sliding her feet crushing against me it was a success but short lived she won me tore me away but when she got up i stayed at her feet for one two three four five touches all light to be sure and slow i was barely moving across the grass and no one else would have me it seemed and i saw but she didn’t the yellow jersey of barrous swooping down on me plucking me away and as i glanced back i saw olive ferguson
captain
swinging her foot into the air
still oblivious perhaps i was no longer there

and he took me and there was open room and maybe hamilton could have taken me as i rolled by she moved to take me but was too slow too slow and the crowd grew louder the NOISE the cheering or booing i couldn’t tell it was angry and braying and it didn’t even seem to concern me because when i was tapped to kellock they didn’t change and even when kellock scored like he came so close to so long ago they only grew louder
down by one and their cheers and boos both surged neither positive nor negative just sound
or so it seemed i could not tell for sure

it happened twice
later it was garbel-harpwits who struck a blow against me the kiri were even slow to pick me up from the back of the net when it happened
it was as if diseased falling into phthisis disintegrating before my eyes but my ears were themselves disintegrating
their disease from the endless vitriol of sound unaffected even by me just sound for the sake of sound

they tired too northerners as they were and the kiri were able to use me once more putting me into the net making the score closer to level and maybe they were expecting some sort of response but no
it was just the same

it was as if
they the people had more important
or different things to do
as if i were not
the most important thing to them on that day
of days as if it were not me they were clambering for how
could they be so foolish dont they know who i am
the kiri lost fore their ignorance their foolishness as well they should have
i am important
i am
i am

regardless of what the sound says

Maharamba in Wight (Still Continuing!)

After he got righted, per say, from looking at the world upside-down, Maharamba the demon-child assassin had a revelation; he couldn't spend the rest of his existence annoying people without getting in trouble, so he had to somehow get into a position where he could annoy people and not get in trouble. Rolling his demonic, chaotic, malicious brain, he settled on one possible option: He would ask the King of Uncertain Dimensions to take him in, and promise to only annoy whomever was annoying the King, unless the King's actions absolutely called for the interaction of a demonic child-assassin.

With this in mind, he went to the King, bowed his head, and spoke his mind, hoping that the King of Uncertain Dimensions would be so taken by how annoying he could be to take him in and protect him while he did what he liked most - which was annoying people until they pulled out hair from their skulls...

Mary's guide to surviving the World Cup
A lonely girls struggle in a footballers world: Part 7: Sorry for the break!

Much has changed since you accidently clicked on the link to my blog all those days ago...No. Actually alomst nothing has happened. We played some matches, drew some, lost some & suprisingly, won some! We lie currently in our qualifying group, in 3rd position, but 7 points of the pace of second placed Yesopalitha.

So qualification is off the cards for now, so we'll focus on Cup of Harmony Qualification, try and write my blog, and otherwise goof around in this oh-so great multiverse of ours. Anyway, today, the Dragons faced off against Equaltorial Sarmen, a team they scored a boring 1-1 draw at Ashbaarn Park.

But a change in style and formation lead to an almost complete demolition of the inferior side. Denbrandt scored twice, and Rutov and Hasvarg-Lukas added one each. The side played with enthusiasm and vigour as Sarmen were sliced open and savaged by our vastly talented midfield...Yeah, I should lay off that for a while...

So I haven't done much over the last week or so, so I've been lying around, writing my novel, which is getting on fabulously..No it's really not...But I've been visiting the team bar with some of the females on the team, and we've become good friends. I visited Jennifer Loitzer's mountain retreat, but we were rudely interrupted by the police, who said we had to leave because of some riots in Munlaier or something..so we didn't spend much time there.

Anyways, I'm to Ossidiacqua tomorrow to watch and wirte the Dragons attempting to beat Ossidiacqua. They're currently lying 5th at 4-1-5, so we should have a handy chance of beating them..

Anyways, again, I'll be back tomorrow to tell you how that went.

MESOLAND SLAY ANOTHER GIANT WITH SIXTH CAMPAIGN VICTORY

The Islands of Qutar 0

Mesoland 1
Nukaba, 29

Mesoland rack up their sixth victory of the tournament with a second win over decently-ranked side known as TIoQ.

Mesoland can't stop winning away from home, with this victory proving their solidity on foreign soil. The team, unchanged from the last match with Culdiku out for the remainder of the qualifiers, came out well rested from their difficult loss at home to Jeru FC and started to unleash their potential. TIoQ, another mystery team, played well for the first fifteen minutes and were blessed with several chances that the Meso defence had to work hard to defend before shrinking back into their shells once Nukaba, our top-scorer, started to bring the midfield into his attacks. Waves of Meso players shot forward, and although it left us vulnerable to counter-attacks we held onto the ball sublimely. Our first shot of the game was also our first goal and also the winner. Nukaba played off Arfa on the edge of the box and hoofed the shot goal bound, with the IoQ keeper managing to get his fingers to it. Unfortunately for him (yet fortunately for Mesoland) the ball bounced off the post and rolled just inside the goal. 1-0 Mesoland.

The second half was a long one, with the IoQ players desperately battling to get back on terms while the Meso players battled to strengthen their lead, a new tactic for the lads in blue. Fortunately for us, IoQ just couldn't find the break or the shot they needed to put one up on us. Akazambaa had a fairly easy match in goal, with just a few simple stops needed to deny the IoQ any leeway. As the game concluded, Mesoland headed off on the hunt for a second goal however only one of their attacks came into fruition (in the third minute of stoppage time). Unfortunately, Vava's shot hit the bar and flipped over for a goal kick, and the referee ended the game as the ball sailed through mid-air. Another win for Mesoland over a much higher ranked side means that we still sit pretty in group five, remaining in second place on a respectable nineteen points (as you would expect, nine behind first placed Jeru FC).

All World Cup and BoF news and results can be found on the MBC website, http://www.mesolandbc.mz, under the sports section. Article by Maria Makalefwe.

Old Shakersson’s Cab
The Back Road, Wight

Nathan, while not replying to Shakersson and Kevin’s jokes in the cab, was sat, deep in thought about what he would find when he arrived in Wight. If you’ve ever visited the afterlife for your religion (which, admittedly, isn’t particularly likely), you would recognise the feeling of apprehension that Nathan was dealing with right now. If you’ve ever met up with someone you haven’t seen in a long time, who has been involved in an incident since then, you would know the other source of the Licentian team manager’s nerves.

Even as the Ravenous Bug Blatter Beast of Traal wandered past the unlikely trio as they were sat in a layby eating sweaty cheese sandwiches (you could tell from the food that Shakersson was an Audioslavian), Nathan failed to notice, too busy thinking of Bua, Wight, home, and most of all, Alex. Nathan’s adopted son, though he didn’t like to admit it, was the driving force behind Nathan putting up with long flights, cheesy tourist board workers, and grumpy Audioslavian removal men to come to Wight. If Alex had survived, he would be upset for the rest of the team, but not desperately searching. If you asked him though, the answer would be about the whole team, not just his son.

Nathan, in one side of his mind, couldn’t believe the pilgrimage he was making. Though he suppose Orthodox Christians being able to travel to the Archregimancy and The Holy Empire would likely be considered more impressive than him being driven up the back road by a grumpy Audioslavian in his old cab, Nathan had grown up dreaming of the day when he could travel to Wight, and it had finally come to pass. He was apprehensive as well as excited though, as he was wary that saying the wrong thing could quite easily annoy Bua, and that wouldn’t be the best introduction to someone you have near-worshipped for your forty year life.

The main thing that kept cropping up in everything he thought of was Alex, and finally being reunited with his lost son. He had mourned his son as dead for weeks, before the sudden realisation of what had happened, and the fact that they would be certain to have made it to Wight. Now, he had the opportunity to meet with his son again, and talk to him, hug him, see him again. The only reason Luke Thompson had even considered the idea was because of Nathan’s nature, and the way that his friend would only reveal it if he knew it was true. Nathan had convinced himself, and there was no way of stopping him once he had done that.

Again though, Nathan had worries niggling in the back of his mind. What if Alex had changed during the accident ?? What if he had amnesia, and forgot everyone he ever knew ?? Nathan wasn’t sure he could bear it if his son had forgotten him, especially after the euphoria of realising he was still alive, and the hard work he had put in to get to Wight. Even more worrying, was the possibility that Alex wasn’t in Wight at all. Nathan knew, in the depths of his mind, that this wasn’t a possibility, but yet, amongst all the various worries that Nathan was plagued by, this impossible thought kept returning to him.

Put short, Nathan Gardiner was in two minds. Excited, to finally see Wight, and his son. But worried, with the various problems that could have come from the accident constantly reminding Nathan that this ordeal wasn’t over yet.
This nation has now been reformed as the Licentian Isles. Please direct anything intended for me to that nation.

The Debate: Should Imara Newson be Sacked?

For Sacking: The Unified Falcon Peregrine Falcons are sitting at a record of one win, five draws, and four losses in this cycle. They have scored eight goals while giving up thirteen, and have only procured eight total points. At this rate, they will finish in the bottom three for yet another tournament. This team shows no signs of life, and they look like they are dead out there. Such incompetence can only stem from the head position, which is the Manager. She must be held responsible for her actions, or the team will continue to fail. She must be sacked, and another must be put into her place. That is the only way that this team will move onward from this realm of mediocrity.

Against Sacking: The union of Unified Falcon hasn't worked out that well so far, so not all of it is Newson's fault. The players are not used to seeing each other as allies, and the mentality of the two groups of people is responsible for most of the friction between the two groups of players. Hence, Newson must be credited for taking the players to different events to get them on the same page; she has tried her best to motivate them to start playing as a team and to be role models for the rest of the nation during this period of transition. It is ture that things have not worked out in this cycle, but she deserves at least another chance to take this team forward. She's too good of a talent to let go now.

What will happen?

It had come to this. The last few years had had their ups and downs. Leading the league in assists and being cut out of the National Team in the same season. Leading West to its first semifinal in a decade, before losing to Fusba. Helping his mother finally leave the slums, only to have her suffer a stroke, and be buried five months later. But this was Norm Bate's chance to truly leave his legacy. This was the Gordonopia Cup final.

Since the implementation of the division system only a couple years ago, eight of the Republic's best Gordonopia Football Association teams qualified for the Gordonopia Cup. From there, it was three rounds of knockout football to determine the champion. The only remaining obstacle between West Tolten and its first championship since the days of Norm's childhood was the legendary Gordonopia FC, the perennial title contenders.

As the game began, the 110,000-strong crowd roared with excitement. Although the match started slow, half of the fans were soon given something to really cheer about. After a counter by West fell short, GFC's goalie nailed a long pass to Howard Hawkins, the team's captain, who managed a perfect cross to Nacio Kirabo. Ed Hammond, West's keeper, never had a chance.

Up 1-0, GFC went into overdrive. It took everything West had simply to keep the ball out of the net, and Norm found himself playing back for most of the half. When he did get the ball forward, it was almost like his first playoff match all over again: the ball simply wouldn't go in.

It wasn't until late in the second half when a strange feeling came over him. During a short break in play, he turned to see Coach Heinrich looking right at him. Suddenly, the vivid memory of the locker room after that sour occasion washed over him, and the coach's words once again rang clear. It only took him a moment to realize: back then he had had a whole career ahead of him. That career had taken him here. Sometimes you lose. This wouldn't be one of those times.

It was in the 89th minute that Norm finally managed to get a good ball after an excellent slide tackle, and he knew that he needed to get it up the field. As he headed up, though, he realized that no one would be able to make it in time to receive a cross or pass. It was all on him.

As he neared the box, a Gordonopia defender came in for a tackle, but Norm managed to flip the ball into the air, jumping over the incoming player in the process. What happened as he hit the ground was so fast, so perfect, it could only be from some hidden reflex. With only a single foot making ground contact, he took control of the ball and tipped it up to hammer it in with his other boot. Twenty-five meters out. Goal.

West's fans erupted like never before. Norm Bates had delivered them into AET. Into a chance for victory when all hope had been lost.

After such a stunning performance, the team couldn't afford to give it up. Twenty minutes in, Norm fed an assist to Deljin, who managed a perfect kick into the net. Finally, Norm managed to take the second pass off of his own set piece in for a goal a few minutes later, and the game was sealed. West Tolten were the champions of Gordonopia, and Norm Bates had led them there.

In the ensuing celebration, Norm was pulled aside by his coach, and could only respond with an emotional hug. The old man had led him to this point, and had been the closest thing he'd had to a father since he was six. Sensing this, Heinrich gave only five words:

"He would have been proud."

Norm nodded in response. Yes, he would have been.

"Well lets be fair we had that coming."

"Yeah. No one really goes to the Archregimancy and beats them."

"Well no on really goes to the Archregimancy anyways to be fair. They come to you. and take you there."

"What now."

"Don't worry about it."

"Sorry i have kinda forget most of what has happened the last few days."

"I would too if i broke my leg and five minutes later was back on the field as if nothing happened."

"Well yeah....Wait my leg broke?"

"Yeah it kinda just happened because you got tackled, and it was in the Archregimancy. You kinda were just fixed."

"What the hell."

"I tend not to worry about how stuff happens in the Archregimancy."

Despite Equal First Half, Reds Turn Return Leg Against Valladares Into a Rout

by Witold Elliott

This World Cup qualifying campaign has been awfully favorable to the home team. At least, that seems to be the case in Group Eleven, where top seed Valladares sits at 6-0-4 following several close losses on the road against lowly opponents—and one dominating second-half performance from Lyle Verdak which propelled the Stachlandic national team to victory last night at Generalife Union Arena.

The first twenty minutes of the contest saw the ball only rarely make its way towards either of the two goals, the one real attempt to score coming in the fourteenth minute, when a shot by Valladar forward Yoan Gignac rebounded off the post and into the gloves of Navering Pounchtal.

The Reds drew first blood in the twenty-first minute, however, as Juran Chueran managed to head a Ratin Beenum corner kick into the back of the net. The visitors would retaliate almost immediately, scoring on a short shot in the twenty-fifth minute, and the teams battled it out relentlessly for the rest of the half, with no further scoring.

The second half, contrary to the first where the teams seemed roughly equal—and in stark contrast to the first match between the two teams, which the Valladar squad dominated 4-0—belonged to the Reds, as Lyle Verdak scored two unanswered goals and Elzbieta Wolszan punctuated the victory with a goal on a pass from Verdak in the eightieth minute.

Verdak’s first goal came following a hard tackle in the penalty box in the fifty-fifth minute, which he converted into the go-ahead goal relatively easily, with a shot straight down the middle that evaded Valladar goalkeeper Luis Fuentes.

With the crowd still buzzing following his first goal, Verdak added another in the sixty-fourth minute, on yet another corner kick by Ratin Beenum, to give the Reds a 3-1 lead. By the time Elzbieta Wolszan scored the Reds’ fourth goal of the match, the outcome had long since been decided.

“It feels good to be able to clobber Valladares like this, after how badly we lost to them on the first leg,” said Jerce Wolszan following the match. “Now that we’ve had a turn pounding them, things are all even between the top two seeds in the group. And I feel that we have a lot of momentum.”

The victory boosted the Reds to first place in Group Eleven, though their main rivals for that position, Carpathia and Ruthenia, had the day off. Still, the team’s prospects for winning their qualifying group seem better than they have at any other time in the history of the Stachlandic national team.

Their next match will be on the road against Boyznichov, a team that the Reds put away 2-1 at Generalife Union Arena. They need to keep winning if they hope to outlast Carpathia and Ruthenia and claim this qualifying group.

“Primordial intelligences are, by their very nature, incredible difficult to indicate in the fossil record, and are exponentially more difficult to verify,” observed Gavin Eissek, a graduate student in paleontology at Lipachi College. “Unless they were technologically advanced, which is all but impossible, their work likely did not survive the intervening years. And, even if we do find an arrowhead next to a dinosaur skeleton, it’s difficult to prove that it was actually consciously produced by that creature, and not by natural means.”

“I understand,” Addison Mulholland said, sitting quietly in the darkened room as reels of excavation footage wound their way through the projector. “Still, the hallucinations I had were pretty vivid. I just wanted to know whether it was possible.”

“Oh, of course it’s possible,” Eissek replied. “It’s just very difficult to prove. I would, however, certainly say that it’s possible—perhaps even likely. But we won’t find the evidence for it on any of these old films.”

The Farf crowd at Transilveinia:

Dandaleion..... Dandalleion.... Dandalleion!

Why were they chanting Dandalleion? Simple, he wasn't on the starting line-up.
Was it a mashoota? Nope, this time, Fendergeson had decided to try and see if Minduruguatzel would perform well. Farfadillis was 1 - 0 down because of Anonymousjansen 2nd minute goal. Farfadillis wasn't starting any counterattacks, simply because Dandalleion wasn't there.
Then, Fendergeson decided it was the moment to, finally, send in Dandalleion. He substituted Minduruguatzel on the 76th minute.
Farfadillis started playing better, and better, and better, and better. Their counterattacks were now important chances, the Transilveinian goalkeeper had started stopping some Tuzzio shots, O'rosso shots, etc.
But, on the 90th minute, A long distance shot from Tuzzio would be sent out by the Transilveinian golakeeper, giving Farfadillis one last chance. O'rosso crossed, Dandalleion found a perfect ball, he bicycle kicked it towards the center of the box, a perfect one-touch bicycle kick cross, probably not intentional, it was found by Frende, who headed it towards the goal, right between the hands of the Transilveinian goalkeeper, equalizing on Farfadillis' last chance. They were still with chances for that much sought after play-off by getting 2nd on the group.
The goal had been awesome, Frende had scored his first international goal and celebrated it crazily. Also, Dandalleion's fantastic pass wasn't ignored, the crowd kept chanting a mix of Frende and Dandalleion. It was magical.
Farfadillis was progressing much faster than anyone expected....

First college football league opens up in Free South Califas

Postby Free South Califas » Fri Aug 17, 2012 6:21 pm

In light of the current economic upswing, and with an eye toward developing more professional football talent for future World Cup campaigns, the first all-university league for association football opened play. [OOC note: Near the beginning of qualification season, so this is a bit of a time warp.] Twenty-eight campuses from Los Angeles County entered the field and were assigned to the Los Angeles Conference, while twenty-nine from the rest of South Califas entered and were assigned to the Nine Counties Conference. (Not to be confused in initialism with Taft Community College.) Many known scouts for top domestic clubs and a few from the national team were spotted at matches across the Ten Counties.

World Cup fans will have the opportunity to see the following Califas Academic Football Association games before each WCQ home game for a low donation of 16:30 credit hour to compensate the traveling players for their trouble, which will be matched by excess funds from the International Sporting Affairs Committee for the improvement of education programs across the Ten Counties:

Harvest Mice starters Bela Ceh and Nadezhda Prokhorova both had hat tricks in Los Angeles County's debut as the co-favorite at the first Califas Games of Summer, the latter from the left wing back position. Thousand Oaks and national team starting midfielder Haidou Zhongyuan broke through with two goals and an assist from his natural position of right attacking mid for Ventura County. Harvest Mice substitute forward Cao Dong and striker Chidiebele Guttman both scored for San Diego County, the other favorite, in a tense match against Kern County, a Bakersfield-dominated side which may struggle to add this piece of Califan hardware to their regional resume.

THE DAILY REVIEW

EAGLES GO DOWN AGAIN

The dejected faces on the Blouman players said it all, after another hard fought game the Eagles failed to win making it the 7th time from 10 games the Eagles have failed to bring home 3 points and their 4th loss for the campaign. The 3-1 loss against Carmadin means the Empire remains 6th in their group and 13 points from top spot making qualifying for the World Cup seem less likely.

Despite the pre match problems with the seats assigned to Carmadin fans closed down due safety concerns the game started off on time without further issues. The Eagles were quick to take dominance over the game maintaining possession and taking an early lead when Briggs-Way scored a goal by heading the ball through Ohcheht's hands. The dominance only managed to last the first 20 minutes until the powerful foot of Xan blasted the ball into the goal bringing the two teams level again. The second half got worse for the Eagles as they failed to make any mark on the game and was forced to defend their goal for most of the 45 minutes. Their efforts proved futile as Mahfrehkt scored in the 65th minute and Shaekh'zheht scoring in the 80th. The Eagles had a resurgence in the final 5 minutes but failed to capitalize on any of their chances making their rest of their campaign harder to qualify.

Manager Malsomp refused to talk to the media after the game instead leaving it up to his Captain Briggs-Way to talk on the performance. "We are disappointed, nobody likes a loss, but I think we can take what we have learnt ready for our next match" Briggs-Way stated in a brief interview with the media. The team next plays Bongo-Johnson and will be requiring a win to ensure they remain in qualifying contention.

SPORTS
Blight the Wight

By Otis Birmingham

In an equally interesting but much more surprising match (as compared to the FWY v. THE match), the Falcons attained vengeance for a first-half-of-qualifying loss to Wight in a spectacular fashion at Falcon Field. A resounding 4-1 thumping thrusts the lowly Falconians into an unprecendentedly good position to possibly qualify; they now sit a mere 1 point out of second place with several matches against shouldn't-be-too-hard-to-overcome opponents approaching.

Onto the match itself; the game largely revolved around Edwardo Baez, who collected three assists over the course of the match. The midfielder has clearly improved in his time playing in Astograth, becoming a true playmaker. He was always in the right spot to both recieve and dispense passes, nesting himself well into opposing territory, pressing the attack until one of the Falconian forwards had found a good spot to shoot. All three of Baez's assists came from one-timed shots; Dempsy, Jarrel, and Marrero each showed excellent ball control, barely needing a moment to transfer from receiving a pass to taking the shot. The split-second rapid-fire nature of these passes and shots seemed to keep King Viné well off balance as that lion-thingy did not seem at all comfortable in the net.

Some kudos must also be given to Leon McClain, whose actually fell back from his normal position and played surprisingly well in the centre, coming up with the ball and advancing it to Baez regularly. In addition, he curved a corner kick directly into the Wight goal; already up 3-0 at the time, the Falconian players had fanned out a bit and seemed to want to play passive possession ball. Jarrel was the only player really poised to have a chance to score on a corner, playing the near post, to which Viné edged a little closer. That proved to be a mistake, as McClain's kick would tuck just in front of the far post, just slightly beyond the reach of Viné's hand (paw?).

Oh, and Flavo Hummingbird made a quite dramatic last-minute dash down the line to sweep up a stray ball and, indeed, put one past Vladimir just before full time to keep the embarssment of being shutout from his team.

Rapid Dash's Hat Trick Leads Equestrian States to Victory
By Steve McNotapony

THE NEW ROMAN IMPERIALISTS - The Equestrian States is going to need to win most - if not all - of their remaining matches if they are to remain in competition for a spot in the World Cup. Cosumar and Krytenia, the two highest-ranked teams in group one have been dominant for most of the tournament with a couple of exceptions. Last night's match against the New Roman Imperialists was a great example of what the Equestrians need to play like to stay competitive in the group. Rapid Dash had the game of her career and the Equestrian defense continued to play well.

In typical fashion, the Equestrians struggled to contain an energetic New Roman Imperialist offense early in the match, but solid performances by High Soarin' and Stronghoof limited the number of shots on target and prevented them from scoring. As the first half hour of play came to an end, the Equestrians began pushing hard against their opponent's defenders, poking holes in their formation with accurate shots and passes into the box. Rapid Dash would eventually drive herself through a gap and outmaneuvered several clumsy defenders to leave just goalkeeper Quarto Lori in her way. The pegasus deftly faked a shot before chipping the ball into the back of the goal.

While the Equestrians weren't able to score throughout the rest of the first half, it was clear that they were the dominant team. Rapid Dash would move up to join her brother and Thunderlane in leading the second half attack, and after a shot from Starlight Sparkle was deflected, she had the perfect opportunity to score, but was tackled from behind by Edilo Capon who was given a yellow card. Rapid Dash easily scored the following penalty kick and the Equestrians led 2-0. Ildebrando Di Luca would make it 2-1 five minutes later, but the momentum of the match was in favor of the visitors.

Rapid Dash would score her third goal of the game in the 74th minute to complete her hat trick and finish off the remaining hope held by the home nation's supporters. This would be the end of the match, and the Equestrian States stayed within striking distance of both Cosumar and Krytenia on the tables. Next, the Equestrians will return home to face Bitternea, who will likely be looking to avoid a repeat of their embarrassing 7-1 defeat. Head Coach Twilight Striker remains optimistic of the team's chances for the next stage saying "If we manage to qualify for the Cup, I will of course be ecstatic since we'll be the first Pony Lands nation ever to do so. But even if we don't, I'm certain that we'll be invited to the Cup of Harmony. We've got unfinished business there, and I'd love to make a deep run sometime."

"A solid victory after a stinging defeat to those Sarrbians at the start of qualifying and a nice turnaround in style as well."

"One game does not mean that the entirety of the player core has adjusted to the managers' new tactics. We'll have to see how the rest of qualifying goes before that sort of discussion can be had."

"Well you have to admit that in this first match, they did demonstrate a greater urgency in the attack as the new manager had been preaching to the squad and in their introductary press conference."

"It is true, but this is one single game, a single step in the marathon. There will always be peaks and valleys, as players hit form or a funk, with injuries and bad weather also having an impact. We can not simply detirmine that all is well from a singular match, even if that single match shows quite a good effort to remedy the problems that have plagued a side."

"Why do you have to get wordy like that?"

"It demonstrates my points multiple times. Repetition is the key to learning and drilling points, or so I have been lead to believe."

"Right."

"At any rate, I am pleased by how the Wanderers have played in this match. Don't take my negative outlook on the form as a dissatisfaction with the squad, I am merely not ready to leap into wonders at the good performance even if I did quite enjoy it. I do desire to see the Wanderers living up to their potential and making a name for themselves in the footballing community, perhaps even one day winning the Cup itself."

"Well, maybe you could be a bit more liberal with your praise as your are with your criticisms."

"Perhaps."

World Cup 61
ASMV-Valanora

An emphatic 8-1 win over Dark has Qazox on the verge of at least qualifying for the play-off stage. A win by Qazox over Liventia and a loss by United Gordonopia in their next match would put Qazox in an unassiliable top-two postition atop Group 17. With Mapletish having a game in hand, and keeping up with the Eagles, their clash in Mapletish, after the Liventia match on Friday and an off match-day; should settle the group once and for all.

Here is Eric R. Martin with tonight's prose, just for a change of pace.

As a child, we are taught to fear the Dark. In the Dark, we were told, there are bogeymen, witches, zombies, ghosts, ghouls, and politicians. But why are we conditioned to be afraid of the Dark? Is it some genetic remant from when we were still mere apes, and the Dark held fear of predators? Or is it socital, a way to help children learn to understand boundries? Or is it just a natural response to the unknown? The Dark is the ultimate unknown, and the ultimate inspiration. If not for the Dark, would we have light or light bulbs or even fire? Did not the Dark of space inspire us to explore other worlds, and our own as well? For all the "evil" we claim about the Dark, is it not the Dark that helped ourselves to develop our current world, our current philosphy and our enlightenment. For without the Dark, there is no enlightenment.

How the Dark pertains to a football match against a nation with the same name, however is easier to explain. 2 goals from Dobbs, and goals from Marsha Tanner, Daniel Spaatz, Soai Fu'anuoa, Jenny Beckett, Grady Reed and Tomas Vera sparked Qazox' victory over the Dark 8-1, despite allowing an early goal to the hosts. So Qazox has defeated 'The Dark". At least on a football pitch, it's easier to quantify success over the unknown.

The Slembana Times: Finally, a win!

By Peter Whiteman, chief football reporter

We've finally recorded a win - our first in six. Our 1-0 away triumph over Mesoland means we've not only completed the double over them, it also means we have scored our first goal in 478 minutes (7 hours 58 minutes) of football. In addition, this win is the first for new manager George Gray.

In the first half, it was 0-0. Our three best chances fell to a Val Kylx shot, a header from Dorrin "Donkey" Forrester (the striker who has now not scored in ten internationals), and a free-kick from Jyvx Dagens. Mesoland's best three chances were a Beritata Nukaba bicycle kick, a Darron Miaku free-kick, and an Ahaka Majukalile header.

In the second-half, Nukaba almost gave his team the lead, only to fire wide. Kylx then saw a header saved, while "Donkey" hit the post with a finesse shot. Miaku then curled against the crossbar, before Follin Maxet's thunderbolt hit the bar, and then both posts. We were slightly dominant, as you can see, but we were not scoring.

However, at the end, a beautiful 25-pass passing movement ended with Yuppë Tárnix playing a short ball into Kylx, who lobbed a very shot ball towards "Donkey". As "Donkey" backheeled the ball into the air, Kylx ran across to volley home the ball first time. Our fans let out a defeaning cheer, as if we had won the World Cup, while Gray rushed out of his technical area and did a knee slide.

FUCK ISRAEL! I support peace, therefore I stand with Palestine. I want a bi-national solution, a state in which Jews and Palestinians can coexist peacefully. The onus is on Israel to stop this - it can do it anytime by bringing a ceasefire and ending apartheid.

[OOC : A huge chunk from We Are Never Getting Back Together Again]
A Song For the Random Lions Supporters, might have incomplete or broken lines,ENJOY ! I meant get your ear pieces !

I remember when the Lions win the first time
Saying this is it, I'vent had enough, 'cause like
We haven't seen a win in a month
When you, said you, needed win, what?
Then you come around again and say
Lose, You suck so Much and your not gonna change
Trust me, remember how that lasted for a month
I say, I hate losing, we start breaking up and you call me useless

Oooh we win it off again last night
But Oooh, this time I'm telling you, I'm telling you
We are never ever ever ever getting a loss again
We are never ever ever ever getting a loss again
You go talk to your friends talk
And my friends talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting a loss again

Like sh*t...

I'm really gonna miss your screaming
And me, falling for a blind fan that I'm wrong
And you, will hide away and find your piece of mind with some indie record that's much cooler than mine

Oooh you called me up again tonight
But Oooh, this time I'm telling you, I'm telling you
We are never ever ever ever getting a loss again
We are never ever ever ever getting a loss again
You go talk to your friends talk
And my friends talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting a loss again

I used to think, that we, were forever ever ever
And I used to say never say never
Huh, he calls me up and he's like, you are still losing it
And i'm like, i'm just, I mean this is exhausting, you know
We are never getting a loss again

We are never ever ever ever getting a loss again
We are never ever ever ever getting a loss again
You go talk to your friends talk
And my friends talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting a loss again

We, oooh, oooh, ooh ...
Who the F**k cares !

You go talk to your friends talk
And my friends talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever a loss again

What the Sh*t are you really here for ?
