IN THE COLONIES
With famine and sickness ravaging the mainland, Qurijans were unsure as to what the purpose of the ceasefire was for their situation. Both sides considered that it would stop whatever steam either side would have in the start of the war. But in that time, both Pomenienze and Scudelliano Qurijans would get the chance to prepare tactics that they deemed more useful in combat. This unprecedented return to peacetime would not come along with the balance of trade and movement of the previous years, as the people would remain put in their positions and the wars was still technically on. When everything calmed down in Juvencus, only then did the Qurijas return to the war effort, this time readier than ever and through economic recession.

Chapter 5: Second Battle of Sant Gregori(September 6th, 1881)
"The calm before the storm is when the fear really sets in. For not even we can avoid the wrath of god." Unknown soldier's notes, ~circa 1880's
The establishment of the Juven State meant that the establishment of Juven Qurija was a given. An official treaty was signed on September 2nd, 1881, recognising Pomenienze Qurija as Juven Qurija officially. This sent shockwaves all across the country and helped incite people join the fight alongside the already depraving recession. And as if by miracle, the war effort would not take too long to start over again. The Scudelliano Qurijans were looking to finish what they had started, and the defeat in Sant Gregori was not a deterrent for their planned advances. Ricardo Fausto Agostini, Governor-General of Scudelliano Qurija was furious and had ordered an immediate attack onto Sant Gregori, believing it to be the single most important position to capture after Al Qurija itself.
The trenches from the previous battle were still mostly set and ready for another battle, knowing the important of Sant Gregori as a port and trading outpost in general. Soldiers and militia alike were given rigorous training, much like the soldiers back in the mainland. That was fact for both the Juven Qurijans and the Independentists. The atmosphere was near-identical to the mainland's, if not even more prepared in this short moment of time. On one hand you had the defenders of Sant Gregori, led by none other than Joan "El Pistolero" Marcel, a duelist turned general. On the other hand, a Scudelliano Qurijan force led by Uroš Kovac, an orthodox and anti-Pomenienze Slomjenski mercenary at the disposal of Fausto Agostini was camping on the other side, ready for an attack at any moment. These 2 hard prior history fighting with and against each other, their rivalry was one that got typically mentioned in answer to "what scares you the most?" questions. And indeed, their rivalry was so bitter. Which added to the importance of this battle.
A Scudelliano cavalry charge baited out most of the equipment of the Juven, exposing many of their gatling guns and soldiers and despite losing a lot of men in the process, they now had the opening for an artillery attack and eventual charge towards the trenches. Which is exactly what happened. The artillery shelling was a loud rainfall of mortar towards all vulnerable positions, managing to incinerate many people in the process. The battlefield became silent for a while, then a typical charge was ordered towards the position of the trenches. The Juven were not outdone though and would mow through large chunks of the advancing Scudelliano troops, something that would not be enough in the first stages of the battle as many positions within the trenches would be compromised.
In a fight in the village of Panajovac, right outside Sant Gregori. A platoon led directly by Marcel and another by Kovac met in a fight of epic proportions. From duels in the main village street to swordfights inside the village church of Saint Dimitrije of Panajovac. It was a bloodshed that was indescribably cruel. But the bloodthirst in the eyes of Marcel and Kovac were unparalleled. They fought hand in hand, trying to kill each other but with nobody prevailing at first. At last Marcel got the best of Kovac after reportedly landing a punch right in the 'noggins' of Kovac, rendering him unconscious. This led to him being captured by Marcel. With Kovac captured, it was decided that the rest of the Scudelliano Qurijan force was to retreat, but with massive amounts of casualties on either side, nobody was victorious and nothing was over yet.
Following Kovac's capture by Marcel, a legendary conversation between the two occured. With Kovac inquiring the reason he was not dead to Marcel's hands and the latter laughing at his face, knowing his inability to react in his current situation. This led to another word fight of the two rivals and the certainty that this rivalry was not finished, but instead just more fired up. Kovac was let go two weeks following the battle, as there was no reason to keep him captive any longer, according to Marcel.
Battle Outcome: Inconclusive, with the Juven claiming pyrrhic victory.
